“Oh Mama Pat” – Efio Odo’s reaction to Agradaa’s 15-year sentence

In the aftermath of controversial televangelist Nana Agradaa 15-year sentence, actress and socialite Efia Odo has taken to social media to express her reaction.

The Accra Circuit Court on Thursday, July 3, 2025 charged Agradaa for charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence.

This led Efia Odo to social media to express her devastation over the development.

“Oh mama pat ,” she wrote on her X account after learning about Agradaa’s sentence.

The Circuit Court in Accra delivered its sentence after it confirmed that she is not pregnant.

In 2022, she was accused of luring her victims through claims that she possessed spiritual powers to double their money.

Initially admitting guilt to charges including fraudulent advertising and obtaining money under pretenses, she spent two weeks in remand before being granted bail of GHS150,000 with three sureties, one requiring justification.

She tricked members of the Godsway International Heaven Church into handing over their cash during a night vigil service at her church in Weija, Accra.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian gospel musician Gifty Oppong Adorye, known in showbiz as Empress Gifty, has dragged Evangelist Mama Pat, popularly known as Agradaa, to court for defaming her.

In a video targeting Empress Gifty’s husband, Hopeson Adorye, Agradaa extended her attacks to the singer, accusing her of engaging in bestiality and unfaithful activities.

According to Gifty, other bloggers have leveraged Agradaa’s statement to spread false narratives about her.

This has affected the “Watch Me” singer and her family, as their children are being ridiculed by friends in school.

In addition to the negative impact of Agradaa’s conduct, lawyers of Empress Gifty say her trip abroad slated for August has been jeopardized.

The words used by Agradaa are interpreted to mean the following:

    a) The plaintiff is promiscuous and a prostitute.

    b) The plaintiff is a zoophile who flirts with dogs to earn her money to cater for her husband.

    c) The plaintiff is an adulterous or an unchaste wife who has extramarital affairs with other men, and most of her paramours are pastors.

    d) Pastors who invite the Plaintiff to their programs have sexual intercourse with her in their offices before the Plaintiff mounts the pulpit to sing.

    e) The plaintiff is an imbecile.

Consequently, Empress Gifty is claiming the sum of twenty million Ghana Cedis for damages for slander.

She is also seeking a perpetual injunction to prevent the defendant, along with associates, agents, and anyone acting on her behalf, from making further publications of the same or similar defamatory statements.

  • It is painful for a producer to lose money over piracy – Salma Mumin

It is painful for a producer to lose money over piracy – Salma Mumin

Ghanaian actress and film producer, Salma Mumin has stated that losing money over piracy is a painful ordeal for film producers.

Being a movie producer herself, Salma has vowed never to forgive anyone caught stealing her for broadcast.

“If I find anybody stealing my movie, I’m gonna take them on. I will take you on because it takes a lot to produce one film and it’s very painful to not even make what you’re meant to make and others are already making behind you,” she warned.

Her comment comes on the back of Nigerian actress and filmmaker Bimbo Ademoye’s appearance on social media months ago to express frustration over the unauthorised broadcasting of her films on Ghanaian television.

She described it as a blatant violation of her intellectual property rights.

According to her, several TV stations in Ghana have been airing her work without permission—a situation she finds unacceptable and unlawful.

She called on relevant authorities to investigate and address the matter promptly.

Salma has also cautioned the culprits to desist from the unfair practice, emphasizing that they know how damaging it is to producers.

“We as entertainment personnel should understand and know better to not even do this at all…it is because the people doing it, they understand what they’re doing,” she said.

Media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has stated that the lack of collaborative efforts between the National Film Authority (NFA) and the copyright office is the contributing factor to piracy in the country.

“To date, the NFA has not held any meetings with the copyright office regarding piracy,” she stated on UTV’s United Showbiz.

The NFA had earlier warned in a letter that any TV station caught airing pirated movies would have its license revoked. But according to MC Yaa Yeboah, the NFA does not even have the power to revoke licenses.

“The NFA recently issued a letter to television stations warning them that if they air movies without proper authorization, their licenses will be revoked. However, upon researching this matter, I discovered that the NFA is not even the institution responsible for revoking licenses,” she said.

  • Producing Captain Traoré was expensive, even a $400K loan was not enough – LilWin

Producing Captain Traoré was expensive, even a $400K loan was not enough – LilWin

Ghanaian actor and filmmaker has revealed that producing his upcoming biopic movie on Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré: The Last African Hero, has been financially draining.

According to him, the financial demands of the movie made it necessary to secure a loan of  $400,000.

Lilwin said that was still not enough until he added his own money, including support from other individuals.

“Captain Ibrahim Traoré movie took every ounce of effort, money and support I could gather. It has been very financially demanding. I had to take out a loan of about $400,000 in addition to my own money and help from others, bringing the total to around $500,000,” he told Graphic Showbiz in an interview.

The actor stressed that he goes all out to produce African movie content to secure a place in the international market.

“If you want your movie to be accepted internationally, you cannot just tell any story. It has to be rich in African culture, our history, our traditions and our folklore. That is why I focus on African stories that showcase who we are,” he added.

Comedian Kwadwo Nkansah has been subjected to harsh treatment over the upcoming movie.

He recounts a situation where some masked men raided the movie set, which he said cost him GH¢15,000 a day to rent.

“Everything was on track—until a group of about ten young men on motorbikes stormed the set and demanded that filming be stopped. When Lilwin’s team tried to reason with them, things quickly escalated.

“They damaged our equipment and caused chaos,” he recalled. “The place was rented—it was someone’s property, and we were paying GHC15,000 every day to use it”, Lilwin recounted the incident via a social media post.

However, the Director of the movie has spoken following the truncation of the shooting of the movie.

During an exclusive interview with Sean City TV, a Kumasi-based media house, on May 31, hosted by Ruthy and Busumuru, Sean Kingston, the producer and director Jackson K. Bentum, shared insights on the purpose and vision behind the film.

According to Bentum, some believe the production of the movie asserts an endorsement and promotion of military coups.

However, he clarified that “We are not saying coups are good. That is not what this movie is about. The story is centered on leadership and impact. Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s leadership in Burkina Faso has brought a sense of renewed hope and sovereignty to the people.”

Learn to address intimacy issues openly – Uncle Ebo Wyte advises couples

Ghanaian playwright and marriage counselor, Uncle Ebo Whyte, has advised couples not to shy away from openly discussing to address intimacy issues if any exist in their union.

“When sex fails, marriage suffers,” he stated bluntly, adding that couples must learn to address intimacy issues openly and without shame, he told Kareen in an interview on JoyNews.

The motivational speaker has also advised bachelors and bachelorettes not to allow themselves to be forced into marriage to satisfy societal, family, or peer pressure, emphasizing that marriage is not a requirement in life.

“Marriage is not given to everybody. Not everybody needs to marry. Not everybody will marry. Marriage is not a magic wand. It may not deliver half of what you expect.

So if you do choose to marry, do so because you’ve found someone with whom you genuinely want to build a life, not because society says you must,” he noted.

Taking to his social media (Instagram) yesterday, the playwright in a video boldly challenged the longstanding norm, which asserts the need for everyone to marry, citing evolution and the growth surrounding the purpose of marriage.

“There was a time when everybody needed to marry. That time has changed. There was a time when there was a purpose of marriage. That time has changed. There was a time when we needed to marry. That time has changed. It’s not now,” he said.

He affirmed his stance, drawing biblical references to the teachings of Apostle Paul, which admonished that “He who marries does well. He who does not marry does even better.”

In Ghanaian society and beyond, procreation is often emphasised to ‘pressure’ people into marriage, but Uncle Ebo Whyte argues that population control, coupled with family planning, has shifted that cultural expectation.

“Because now we are saying there are too many people. Let’s control the population, citing his 42-year-old marriage as companionship as well. Then there’s the issue of companionship. I’ve been married for 42 years. Companionship,” he said.

He also warned against entirely romanticising marriage, saying that it’s a commitment that requires “hard work, patience, humility, and respect,” not just love.

Uncle Ebo reminded his audience that people can live happy lives without being married and that marital status does not define one’s values.

“You are complete with or without marriage. Some of the most fulfilled people I know never married, and that’s perfectly okay,” he said.

  • I am the sole sponsor of my music craft – Yaa Jackson

I am the sole sponsor of my music craft – Yaa Jackson

Award-winning singer, Yaa Jackson, has disclaosed that she single handedly funds and music craft.

Responding to a question by Zionfelix in an interview on YouTube, “Who invests in your craft right now?

Yaa Jackson said, “Nobody, it is just me and my big brother. I am trying my best to work with what I can afford.”

The Ghanaian actress also opened up about her spiritual life, revealing a side many might not expect of her.

Jackson says, she is an extremely religious person but that side of her life is only a preview to those in her close circles.

“When you get close to me I have a personal life that people don’t know about it because they are not close to me. I might even be righteous more than those who critize me. Let me say I am even more religious than some people.”

“Sometimes the pastors we respect so much because we consider them more closer to God, can surprise us with their shortcomings,” sh told Zionfelix.

The Afrobeat and highlife singer has slammed critics who condemn her style of dressing.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Yaa Jackson noted that she is not perturbed by the opinions of people, adding that she doesn’t dress to express anyone.

“Oh, the comments! I’m not worried about what people say about my style. Fashion is subjective, and I’m all about being true to myself. If people love it, great! If not, that’s okay too.

“I won’t change for someone else’s idea of style. Besides, on an ordinary day, you will not see Yaa Jackson dressed like that,” she stated.

Yaa Jackson rose to fame as an actress and is now balancing her career between acting and music.

According to her, music allows her to express her emotions and ideas than acting does.

“Honestly, I love both music and acting. I think they’re both forms of storytelling, just in different ways. Right now, I’m leaning more towards music because it allows me to express myself in a personal and raw way. However, I will continue to explore both passions,” she added.

Meanwhile, her father, Jackson K. Bentum, has responded to ongoing public scrutiny over the social life of his daughter.

A section of Ghanaians has asserted that her social lifestyle does not align with the cultural expectations of a young Ghanaian woman.

According to him, “She’s over 18 now. There’s little I can do to control her choices.”

Yaa Jackson’s father believes that all her daughter is putting up in the public eye is meant to contribute to building a solid brand for herself.

“It’s part of the branding. It’s the business of entertainment,” he emphasised.

Contrary to Yaa Jackson’s social reputation, Mr Bentum revealed that his daughter has become a different person behind the scenes ever since she assumed the role of a mother.

“Even when we’re on set, she no longer agrees to wear those revealing outfits. Motherhood has changed her a lot,” Mr. Bentum shared.

  • NHIA to introduce economic tariffs to boost provider payments

NHIA to introduce economic tariffs to boost provider payments

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced plans to implement new economic tariffs aimed at significantly increasing payments to healthcare providers.

This was disclosed by the Deputy Chief Executive for Operations, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, during a conference in Ho organised by the NHIA’s Quality Assurance Directorate to disseminate the clinical and audit findings for the last quarter of 2024.

“We have gathered a group of experts from all fields—private, public, all over—and we had a consensus on what will be economic tariffs. So very soon, you are going to see an appreciable increase in tariffs that you receive,” he said.

He noted that while the NHIA is responsible for ensuring financial access to healthcare, providers must ensure geographical accessibility of services.

“We depend on each other. You, the providers, must ensure the sustainability of service delivery, while we ensure the sustainability of the Scheme,” he said.

In a bid to fast-track reimbursement, he encouraged providers to submit claims within 30 days rather than wait until the statutory 90-day deadline.

“If you can submit within 30 days and there is adequate liquidity, we can begin to pay you before the 90 days. We do all this so that there will be quality healthcare delivery,” he said.

Dr. Djokoto also called on providers to join the NHIA in the fight against illegal payments. “Dr. Victor Bampoe has a vision to ensure that when we say financial access, we mean true financial access. With the variety of payments and economic tariffs, we believe that illegal payment should now be a thing of the past,” he said.

The Director for Quality Assurance, Lydia Anaab Bisi, emphasised the need for collective action toward delivering quality care.

“We are partners in the provision of healthcare services. Our common goal is to ensure that every person living in Ghana, especially those registered with NHIA, will receive quality care without paying out-of-pocket. But that goal, we have not yet achieved,” she said.

A representative from the Ghana Health Service Director-General’s office stressed the importance of listening to feedback from service providers. “We hold in high esteem our role as gatekeepers to always protect the Scheme so that we can reach out to the population. We have structures in place that will help us implement some of the feedback you have shared,” he said.

Deputy Director for Quality Assurance, Mr. William Omane-Adjekum, made available findings from a regional audit of healthcare facilities across the Volta and Oti regions.

The findings were presented by a Manager at Quality Assurance, Eugene Ernest Kofie, on behalf of Mr. Omane-Adjekum.

“We came to the Volta Region sometime last year and selected facilities across all levels of care, except the teaching hospital. There will be an audit specifically for the teaching hospital,” Mr. Omane-Adjekum said.

The audit results showed non-compliance with malaria treatment protocols. Some of the facilities treated malaria with no evidence of testing in the records. In some cases, malaria tests came out negative, yet treatment was still administered. The audit also established that public confidence in the Scheme was declining.

“Members are losing trust due to illegal payments and are increasingly choosing not to renew their NHIS membership,” Mr. Kofie said.

To address these issues, he announced upcoming training initiatives. “We have identified a knowledge gap regarding the NHIS benefit package. More training will be conducted to bridge this gap,” he said.

  • President Mahama swears in 7 Supreme Court Judge nominees

President Mahama swears in 7 Supreme Court Judge nominees

His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in some seven judges he nominated to the Supreme Court earlier this year.

This comes after Parliament approved the nomination of these individuals after they were vetted by the Appointments Committee of Parliament in June.

Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo and Justice Hafisata Amaleboba were made to administer the oath of service at Jubilee House on Thursday, July 3.

During the ceremony, President John Dramani Mahama charged the newly sworn-in judges to serve with humility and ensure an efficient and accurate interpretation of the law as they carry out their mandate.

“This robe is not simply a mark of office; it is a symbol of service, humility, and accountability. Wear it with wisdom. Interpret the law not just as it is but as it ought to be. Alive to context and sensitive to the live reality of the Ghanaian people.”

He added, “The judiciary must not only speak the language of the law but must understand the heartbeat of the nation. It must be alert to the needs of low-income individuals, mindful of the struggles faced by our women and children, and sensitive to the anxieties of our citizens who feel excluded and unseen.”

The vetting process for the nominees faced a disruption after a petition filed led to the brief suspension of Justice Kweku T. Ackaah-Boafo’s interrogation.

The petition was brought before the Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Thursday, June 19, by an acclaimed international human rights activist, Anthony Kwabenya Rau, who leveled serious allegations of judicial bias against the nominee.

Addressing the media, Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, described the petition as “frivolous, vexatious, and a complete abuse of process,” thereby dismissing it.

He based the decision on Article 127(3) of the 1992 Constitution, which protects judges from legal action regarding their judicial conduct.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, also condemned the increasing trend of using baseless allegations to publicly tarnish the reputations of accomplished individuals. Following this, the vetting process resumed.

The Appointments Committee is chaired by Bernard Ahiafor and assisted by Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah. Other members of the committee also include, Alexander Afenyo-Markin (Ranking Member), Patricia Appiagyei (Deputy Ranking Member), Mahama Ayariga (Majority Leader), Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Patrick Yaw Boamah, Shaibu Mahama, Alhassan Umar, and Kwame Governs Agbodza.

  • Govt clears debt obligation with $349.5m Eurobond payment

Govt clears debt obligation with $349.5m Eurobond payment

The Ministry of Finance has officially informed the public that the Government of Ghana has, through the Bank of Ghana, successfully effected a payment of US$349,523,674.56 in respect of Eurobond debt service obligations on Wednesday, July 3.

Since the conclusion of Ghana’s Eurobond debt restructuring in October 2024, the government of Ghana has cumulatively serviced US$1,174.64 million in Eurobond debt payments.

In October 2024, the government made an initial payment of US$475.60 million, covering obligations due under the restructuring agreement, including the first post-restructuring debt service.

This was followed by a US$349.52 million payment in January 2025. Now, in July 2025, a further US$349.52 million has been paid.

This brings Ghana fully up to date on all scheduled Eurobond debt service obligations for 2025. Looking ahead to 2026, a total debt service of US$1,409.06 million is scheduled.

This timely payment reaffirms Ghana’s commitment to macroeconomic stability, prudent debt management, and constructive engagement with external creditors.

It is also expected to positively influence Ghana’s credit ratings trajectory in the months ahead, as it demonstrates continued discipline in debt servicing post-restructuring.

Additionally, it is likely to boost investor confidence in Ghana’s sovereign credit profile and economic recovery programme, while supporting foreign exchange market stability, given that the payment has been incorporated into the Bank of Ghana’s reserves and liquidity management strategy.

With 98% participation from bondholders, Ghana was able to restructure $13 billion in Eurobond debt, paving the way for the continuation of payments last year. Regular coupon payments commenced in January 2025. The Finance Minister at the time (2024), Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, announced the creation of a Sinking Fund to alleviate the fiscal pressure of the repayments.

Meanwhile, the government of Ghana has brought to an end the series of engagements with China geared towards enhancing the debt restructuring efforts.

Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, who described the meetings as helpful and a big step forward in solving the country’s debt problems, revealed this information in a post on social media on Tuesday, July 1.

According to him, these talks are part of the government’s efforts to fix the economy, reduce the country’s debt burden, and ensure that the lives of ordinary Ghanaians are protected.

Dr. Forson added that the progress made in China puts Ghana in a stronger position to complete this difficult process and build a more stable and inclusive economy.

In April this year, the sector minister announced Ghana’s preparedness to conclude bilateral agreements for the restructuring of its $5.1 billion official bilateral debt by June, a goal that Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson had described as “ambitious.”

This followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Official Creditor Committee (OCC) on January 28.

  • ECG raises GHS1.6bn revenue within 6 months in 2025 – Jinapor

ECG raises GHS1.6bn revenue within 6 months in 2025 – Jinapor

Minister for Energy and Green Transition John Abdulai Jinapor has announced what he describes as a remarkable improvement in the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)’s revenue collection this year.

According to the sector minister, the company managed to raise GH¢1.6 billion in the first half of 2025, against a projected target of GH¢2.5 billion.

“At the end of the month [June 2025], ECG was able to raise about GHC1.6 billion. Which is a remarkable improvement, even though the target ought to be GHC 2.5 billion. If you do a year-on-year comparison, this month [June] of 2025 as compared to the same month in 2024, there’s a remarkable improvement in terms of the revenue collection,” he made this known on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, July 2.

Mr John Jinapor also revealed plans to introduce a legislative instrument in Parliament to enforce tougher penalties on those who unlawfully connect electricity for users.

He noted that while some culprits have been arrested and prosecuted, the current punishments have not been effective enough in discouraging the act. He emphasized the importance of introducing harsher consequences to stop the practice.

Last month, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited commenced its nationwide revenue mobilization exercise to ensure arrears owed the company by consumers are settled.

The 12-day exercise commenced on Monday, June 16, and ended on Friday, June 27.

The revenue mobilization exercise focused on all categories of customers with arrears—residential, commercial, industrial and Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The exercise was monitored by special teams who apprehended customers who attempted to interfere with the exercise and/or undertook illegal self-reconnection after disconnection.

In October last year, the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) raised concerns over the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) monthly revenue losses, revealing that the company is losing approximately $67 million every month due to unpaid bills.

ACEP attributed these losses to the ECG’s low revenue recovery rate. Kodzo Yaotse, Policy Lead for Petroleum and Conventional Energy at ACEP, emphasized that improving the ECG’s revenue collection must be prioritized by both the government and the company itself.

He warned that the continued failure to collect these revenues would only worsen Ghana’s growing energy sector debt and strain the Independent Power Producers (IPPs), who are already owed significant sums as part of the country’s legacy energy debt.

Per reports, the ECG is drowning in debt over GHC67 billion. The ECG has on numerous occasions embarked on revenue mobilization exercises but is yet to retrieve all the money owed the company.

Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Dr Shafic Suleman, has lauded the Electricity Company of Ghana for improved revenue collection in the first quarter of 2025.

According to him, ECG has collected almost GHC1.4 billion every month since the beginning of the year. For him, “that is a step in the right direction to keep the lights on.”

As Chairman of the Cash Waterfall Mechanism, he vowed to ensure continuous cash flow to sustain the operations of ECG following recent engagements with the Energy Minister to upgrade the status of ECG on the Cash Waterfall Mechanism.

Meanwhile, customers have also been urged to use their regular channels, including the ECG Mobile App, to pay their bills. Download the app from the Google Play Store, or call the ECG contact center at 0302611611 or social media handles for assistance.

Amerado opens up about facing life struggles in recent times

Ghanaian rapper and singer from Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, popularly known as Amerado has hinted at going through life challenges in recent times.

The singer took to X and shared a haunting sketch of a man leaning over a sink with his head down, while his reflection in the mirror appears to be screaming in anguish.

He accompanied the photo with a caption, “I’ve been going through a lot these days. Sorry to my inner self.”

Amerado’s comment comes at a time when he had called out Television personality Deloris Frimpong Manso for deleting their interview from her YouTube channel.

Amerado took to ‘X’ on May 30 seeking an explanation from Delay.

His tweet read, “Your interviews with me are no more on your channel. How did we get here, @delayghana?”

The question sparked widespread reaction from netizens, with many questioning why Amerado failed to consider a more private approach to address the issue after indicating in an interview that there is no bad blood between them.

In response to the criticism, Amerado wrote on X, “LOL, emotional maturity? Do you think a public interview on a public platform is a private matter? If you can’t bear public information don’t even think of private.”

Years ago, the Kumasi-based Ghanaian rapper clarified his relationship status with the award-winning TV show host and presenter, Delores Frimpong-Manso.

Amerado and Delay, for the past five years, were rumoured to be having an amorous affair.

The rumours were heightened in 2022 when Lyrical Joe threw shots at The Delay Show host during his beef with the ‘Obiaa Boa’ rapper.

But reacting to the rumours for the umpteenth time, Amerado said there was nothing going on between himself and the media mogul sexually.

Amerado, in his response to Berla Mundi on TV3 New Day, said Delay naturally adored him and supported his craft.

He also debunked the assertion that the rumours were engineered to make him popular.

“It was organic, It was natural. She likes me and she was willing to support my craft. There’s nothing like we did it for likes.”

“I think it was more than that because Delay hardly opens up to people you get it and me being lucky to be closer to her means she forsaw the future. So I feel like what she did for me goes beyond liking someone and I reciprocated it.” he explained.

On how they became friends, Amerado revealed that their friendship blossomed after his interview with the show host.

“I went on the interview, and my story touched her heart; after that, we just became friends. You [Berla] and I could also become friends,” he maintained.

  • “What am I going to do in a married man’s DM?” – Salma Mumin quizzes Nana Romeo

“What am I going to do in a married man’s DM?” – Salma Mumin quizzes Nana Romeo

Actress and businesswoman Salma Mumin has playfully dismissed suggestions of sliding into Cristiano Ronaldo’s DM despite his admiration for him.

Salma recently revealed that if she had to switch lives with anyone, it would be Ronaldo’s partner, Georgina.

“She’s on yachts every day, travelling via private jet, she has all the brands, she’s living her best life, she’s got her kids, and of course, her husband is the best player in the world. What else could she ask for? And he’s a very handsome guy to begin with,” she explained.

This led Nana Romeo to ask Salma if she has ever considered sliding into Ronaldo’s dm.

Salma, in a playful response, quizzed Nana Romeo with laughter saying, “What am I going to do in a married man’s DM?”

Salma further explains that the idea of sending Ronaldo a DM will be the last to cross her mind because there is a lower tendency that the Portuguese star will see it.

‘If I compare his following to mine and the number of DM’s I get daily, I can imagine the avalanche of messages that overwhelms his DMs. So it is not even necessary for me to send a DM to Ronaldo,” Salma told Host, Nana Romeo on Okay FM.

Nana Romeo went on to ask if Salma had ever messaged a high-profile celebrity who did not respond to her.

Salma said, “The thing is, I got into the limelight very early, while I was still in secondary school, so I experienced the celebrity life from the very beginning. Because of that, there’s no celebrity I’d say I’m so enchanted by that I’d send a DM,” Salma said.

“Yeah, I like people, I admire them from afar, I follow them, comment on their posts and all that, but I’ve never picked up a phone to DM any of them.”

However, she revealed that “countless celebrities” had sent messages to her DMs.

“Some want to do business, some want to be friends,” she explained, while insisting on keeping their names private.

I’m sorry to disappoint you with comment on infidelity – 2baba tells fans

Legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has rendered an apology to his fans, wife, friends, and family over a comment he made supporting the act of infidelity by men in relationships.

2Face opened up in an interview on Mzansi podcast with media personality Nedu, stating that, “…Man is not built to sexually be with one woman. Your heart, love, respect can be given to one woman but sexually it is impossible for a man.”

“A man can love a woman completely but when it comes to that sexual satisfaction, can’t be with only one woman. It’s the biology of a man,” he added.

His remarks generated a myriad of criticism from gender rights advocates and public figures who described 2Face’s statement as misogynistic, inconsiderate, and reckless.

This led the musician to social media to render an apology through a video he shared on his Instagram page.

“I said what I said because I wanted people to get my understanding. However, there’s no excuse for those comments. I take full responsibility for my words, and I am sorry for disappointing the millions of people who look up to me,” he stated.

2Face admitted that his remarks were made carelessly, and he is ready to bear the consequences of his actions.

“I know I messed up with what I said, and I know I’m going to get cancelled because of it. I know I’m going to pay a heavy price,” he wrote.

The renowned singer once expressed his disappointment with the excessive attention Nigerians show to his family.

Despite enduring criticism over time, 2Baba lamented that he occasionally remains emotionally affected by the comments made by others.

He pointed out that even though Nigerians insinuate that he’s not diligent, they have never volunteered to cover his children’s expenses.

The father of seven openly discussed these matters during an interview with British-Nigerian media figure Adesope Olajide on the Afrobeats podcast.

He said, “Many people talk about kids, fatherhood, motherhood, all that whole circle. Many people talk about it with a public opinion type of thinking. But it’s deeper than that. There’s nobody who has the exact blueprint for this thing.

“The basic truth of the whole matter is the connection with you and your little ones [children]. There are so many different ways to find it. There’s no one rule or one particular way.

Tinny opens up about shelving a music video in which Fella Makafui was naked

Veteran Ghanaian rapper Nii Addo Quaynir, known in showbiz as Tinny, has opened up about shelving a music video that showcased Fella Makafui’s nakedness.

He attested to the fact that he released a song titled “Baddest Girl” years back, but the video of the song was withheld due to “one or two things.”

Responding to the question of what could have been the reason, Tinny said:

“…the people that were holding them down got back to us that because of one or two things, we should hold on for the video. It is not going to help her.” Tinny told George Quaye on JoyPrime.

Hence, a conclusion was made that releasing such a video was not a good idea.

Recently, Tinny popped up on social media after American rapper, Ja Rule revealed that he once collaborated with a Ghanaian artiste over a decade ago but could not recall the artiste’s name.

During his visit to Ghana to commission a six-unit classroom block at Nuaso Anglican Basic School in the Eastern Region, he made the revelation in an interview with Joy News, which gained traction on social media.

Ja Rule recounted being in the studio with the artiste but admitted that the details of the session had faded from his memory.

“I recorded a song a long time ago with a Ghanaian artiste, but I have forgotten his name. This was about 15 years ago. Afrobeat is really big right now,” he said.

His statement sparked speculation among netizens, with many suggesting that the artiste in question could be rapper Tinny.

Following his statement, videos resurfaced online showing Tinny in the studio with Ja Rule.

The rumored song is believed to have also featured Morris Babyface on the hook, with suggestions that it was initially intended for one of Ja Rule’s albums but was never released.

  • 10 Chinese arrested for illegal gold trading at Asankragua

10 Chinese arrested for illegal gold trading at Asankragua

Ten Chinese nationals involved in illegal gold trading at Asankragua in the Western Region are currently in police custody.

The arrest was championed by the GoldBod Taskforce just 48 hours after the government announced a nationwide ban on foreign involvement in the local gold trade.

The culprits were nabbed from a private residence where their illicit gold transactions ensued.

In addition to the arrest, 1.3kg of gold worth nearly GHS1.4 million, over GHS1.3 million in cash, a pump-action gun, and a significant quantity of suspected money-laundering casino cards were also seized through the solid intelligence of informants.

GoldBod CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, has assured the media that the arrested individuals will face full prosecution by the laws of Ghana and not be deported.

“We mean business, and this time around, you cannot engage in illegal gold trading and gold smuggling and go scot-free,” he said.

He adds that the swift action by the task force informs illegal operators, particularly foreigners, that Ghana is stepping up efforts to bring order to the gold trade and implement its ban on foreign involvement in gold transactions.

“The grace period is over and we have given countless warnings upon warnings. And so when you are arrested now, there will not be anything like deportation,” he said.

Mr Gyamfi further stated that he has told the investigators to put together a very strong and solid case, using the evidence that the workers on the ground have gatherered.

“By tomorrow, they will be arraigned before court, we will be praying the court remands them into custody for further investigations and it is our hope that we will get a favourable outcome,” he added.

Meanwhile, the government is set to launch a new task force to clamp down on illicit gold-smuggling activities in the country.

Speaking at a press conference earlier this week, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, revealed that as part of broader measures to combat smuggling and illegal trading of gold in the country, President Mahama would launch a special task force on July 8, 2025.

He thus cautioned traders to secure the appropriate licence to engage in any form of gold trading in the country, saying, “But for those who are hell bent on trading illegally without the licenses, we are serving notice that we are coming after you”.

“This event would be the inauguration of the GoldBod task force. So, 8th of July at 8:30 a.m. at the National Security Secretariat, popularly called Blue Gate — there is a yard in there… and the media are cordially invited,” he revealed.

The task force would be given a special mandate with specific powers as police officers to wage war against smuggling and all forms of illegal gold trading activities in the country.

Meanwhile, Mr Sammy Gyamfi (Esq.) had stressed that persons who engage in gold trading without Goldbod licenses after June 21 will be prosecuted.

He stressed this during a meeting with the Chamber of Licensed Gold Buyers last month.

“As we have announced, by the 21st of this month, we shall ensure that only holders of Goldbod licenses are able to buy gold, and so if you are not licensed by the GoldBod, you cannot buy gold after June 21st. It will constitute a punishable offense to do so.”

Mr Gyamfi urged the gold buyers to forge partnerships that will boost compliance with the new GoldBod licensing regime.

The acting CEO noted that the process for registering has been made seamless and is devoid of corruption.

“We have removed the human interface element and so there is no corruption, bribery, inducements, or favoritism. It is a very transparent and competitive process and once you qualify, you get the license. I don’t take or demand bribes before I issue license.”

George Opoku Amponsah breaks away from Kennedy Agyapong’s camp

A strong supporter of Kennedy Agyapong, a former presidential aspirant of the opposition party, George Opoku Amponsah, has stepped away from his camp to back someone he now believes is a better choice to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

George was very active during the NPP’s 2024 presidential primaries. He worked hard to get votes for Kennedy Agyapong, especially in places like Juaben and Ejisu.

Even though Kennedy lost to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who was Ghana’s vice president at the time, George’s efforts, especially on the campaign’s communication front, were highly significant.

Now, George no longer sees Kennedy as the right person to follow.

While he hasn’t publicly given detailed reasons for his decision, sources suggest that Kennedy’s attitude and how he treats people may have pushed George to walk away.

“I regret to inform you of my decision to withdraw as a member of Team Ken Communications, effective immediately”, he said in an official statement.

He stressed he is now focusing on the right candidate for the party who, to many people, is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

You criticize born ones yet criticize singles for not giving birth at 30 – Efia Odo to netizens

Ghanaian socialite Efia Odo has fiercely reacted to a comment from one X user questioning why she doesn’t have a child at age 30.

It is not clear how a comment from @GOKUUL on X [“and you still not ready to give birth yet] made its way to Efia Odo.

However, she responded by stating confidently that she won’t succumb to any societal pressure that leads to bringing forth an innocent child into a broken home.

“One thing yall not gone do is pressure me to give birth. I’m not bringing a child into a broken home, neither am I bringing a child into the world cuz society has told me that by 30’s I should’ve given birth.” she wrote on X.

Efia Odo added that she will be prouder to usher in a child into a stable home at age 40 than to do so at age 30 with a broken home.

“I’d rather wait till I’m even 40 knowing I’m bringing a child into a loving healthy home built on love and union. Y’all always talking down on born ones but stay pressuring women to give birth cuz you feel their time is up. No one can tell me what to do with my life and when to do it.”

Jury acquits Diddy of sex trafficking, convicts him of transporting women for prostitution

Music producer and rapper, Sean “Diddy” Combs, has been judged not guilty of sex trafficking and being part of a criminal gang by a U.S jury.

However, he was found guilty of bringing women across state lines for prostitution.

The verdict came on Tuesday, July 2, in New York after a high-profile trial that started in May.

The jury spent three days and over 13 hours discussing the case before agreeing on all five charges.

The jury found Combs not guilty of being part of a criminal group (racketeering) and not guilty of sex trafficking singer, Cassie Ventura.

However, he was found guilty of transporting Cassie and other women for ptrostitution.

He was also cleared of sex trafficking another woman referred to as “Jane,” but was found guilty of transporting her and others for prostitution.

The charges came from the testimonies of Cassie and Jane, both of whom had romantic relationships with Combs.

They spoke in Court about being taken to hotels where Combs allegedly arranged for other men to have sex with them while he watched, filmed or gave directions, calling these events “freak-offs” or “hotel nights.”

Before the verdict was announced, Combs was seen praying with his children and hugging his lawyers.

In the room where many were watching, emotions were high and people reacted audibly as each decision was read, even though the judge had asked for silence.

Combs has been in jail since his arrest in September 2024.

Although he was cleared of the most serious charges, his lawyers believe the guilty verdicts shouldn’t stop him from being granted bail.

  • “Don’t make me and Stonebwoy fight”- Samini warns netizen

“Don’t make me and Stonebwoy fight”- Samini warns netizen

Veteran dancehall musician Samini has warned netizens to resist attempts likely to spark a feud between him and Stonebwoy, another dancehall artiste.

This comes after the “My Own” hitmaker was questioned on X about his contribution to championing the Afro-dancehall genre.

The user with an account name Repost King noted “Smh… assuming you right, how well did you champion this. What has been your effort in bringing to light Afro-dancehall. The fact that you advised him on fusing ayigbe to his songs doesn’t make you the originator. You are a legend undisputed but Afro-dancehall has always been 1Gad’s.”

In response, Samini stated, “Put some respect on my name G. SMH I blame @stonebwoy. Tell me the difference. After that tell me who named it and who renamed it. Don’t make me and @stonebwoy fight ooo. He knows the truth I beg. DONT. Man start vex these foolish newbies. Massa talk to your fans oooo. Yooooo.”

Samini has also opened up about why he prefers music over acting, citing the significant pay disparity between the two industries.

According to him, acting is a physically and financially draining profession, yet actors in Ghana are not compensated fairly for their efforts compared to musicians.

Speaking on a podcast, Samini explained that while he has dabbled in acting, he finds the financial returns unimpressive.

He revealed that top musicians can earn between GHS 150,000 and GHS 250,000 for a single full-band live performance, with even lesser-known artists making between GHS 15,000 and GHS 20,000 for a 30-minute set in Accra.

However, the situation is entirely different for actors, who often spend weeks on set but earn significantly less.

Samini disclosed that even A-list actors struggle to secure GHS 10,000 to GHS 25,000 for an entire movie project, which could take up to three weeks of filming.

He pointed out that some of the biggest names in the industry might push for GHS 20,000 or GHS 25,000, but that largely depends on the production house hiring them.

Meanwhile, lesser-known actors reportedly earn as little as GHS 2,000 for weeks of work—an amount far below what musicians make for just a few songs on stage.

“It’s crazy when you think about it,” Samini said. “A musician can go on stage for 30 minutes and earn GHS 15,000, while an actor spends weeks filming and barely makes that. Something has to be done about it.”

As an advocate for fair pay, Samini called for the introduction of a standardized salary structure for actors, similar to what exists in the music industry.

He proposed that A-list actors should not be paid below GHS 50,000 per movie, B-list actors should earn at least GHS 30,000, and no mainstream actor should be paid less than GHS 15,000 per role.

“If for nothing at all, there should be some form of regulation so that actors are fairly compensated,” he emphasized.

Samini believes that a structured pay system would not only improve the livelihoods of actors but also enhance the quality of Ghanaian films. He urged producers and industry stakeholders to re-evaluate their compensation structures to ensure actors receive what they truly deserve.

His comments have reignited discussions about the financial realities of acting in Ghana and whether reforms are needed to bridge the pay gap between musicians and actors.

  • Kanye West’s Heil Hitler song gets him banned from entering Australia

Kanye West’s Heil Hitler song gets him banned from entering Australia

United States rapper Kanye West has been banned from entering Australia over the release of his Heil Hitler song.

The song was independently released on May 8, 2025, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke made the announcement today in an interview with the ABC’s Afternoon Briefing program when he was responding to questions about the visa cancellation of an Israeli-American tech advocate who wrote, “Islamophobia is rational.”

The authorities say Kanye’s visa has been revoked for referencing the Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

Tony Burke added that he would not permit anyone entry into Australia to embark on a speaking tour if they argued that either Islamophobia or antisemitism was “rational.”

“Most of the visas that have been cancelled under this section have been where someone was seeking to make a public speech,” he said. “The only one I can think of where it wasn’t for public advocacy – the visa – but we cancelled it anyway, would be Kanye West,” he explained.

Mr Burke acknowledged that Kanye’s wife, Bianca Censori hails from Melbourne, and travels to Australia often to see her faimily.

However, that could no more save Kanye West“made a lot of offensive comments that my officials looked at again once he released the Heil Hitler song and he no longer has a valid visa in Australia”.

Responding to the question of whether it is sustainable to maintain the ban in light of potential international concerts, Mr Burke replied:

“I think that what’s not sustainable is to import hatred. Every visa application gets reassessed by my officials each time. I’m not taking away the way the act operates, but even for the lowest level of visa, when my officials looked at it, they cancelled that following the announcement of that song.”

In 2024, Ye faced a lawsuit from his former personal assistant, Lauren Pisciotta, who alleged that he sent her racist, vulgar, and inappropriate texts and videos.

According to the lawsuit, Pisciotta, a successful OnlyFans model, was hired by West in 2021 after he discovered her bikini pictures.

He reportedly offered her a $1 million annual salary on the condition that she delete her OnlyFans account, which she agreed to.

Shortly after being hired, Pisciotta claimed that Kanye West (now Ye) began sending her a series of offensive messages.

One text read, “See, my problem is I be wanting to f, but then after f, I want a girl to tell me how hard they been fed while I’m fing them. Then I want her to cheat on me!”

Agradaa describes moment shared with President Mahama as heavenly

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa, shared a brief moment with President John Dramani Mahama during the National Day of Thanksgiving and Prayer held at the forecourt of the State House on Monday, July 1.

While the president was exchanging pleasantries with members of the public during a recess at the event, Agradaa approached him and received what appeared to be a light embrace.

The encounter visibly thrilled the evangelist, who later described it as a fulfilling moment.

“I’m really excited to be here, especially because I got to see the President in person. What he has done is beautiful. It shows he has a vision for the country and cares about where Ghana is heading. I even had the chance to hug him today, and honestly, even if I don’t make it to heaven, I feel fulfilled,” she said.

In 2024, the acclaimed evangelist made some bold statements regarding the 2024 elections.

Although she had initially declared her intention to stay away from politics, she reversed that decision and publicly announced her support for a candidate.

Addressing her congregation, Agradaa emphasized her influence and the weight of her endorsements.

“I had decided not to follow politics, but now I feel the need to state where I stand. So, in 2024, I, Agradaa, will choose the party I support,” she proclaimed.

She further asserted that her backing has never failed. “The person I decide to support will become president, whether you like it or not, and once they take the presidential seat, they will remain there unless I am no longer alive. This is a directive from God.”

Agradaa also highlighted the power of her social media presence, claiming it significantly amplified her endorsement.

“From now on, the battle lines are drawn because when I speak, it has a significant impact. Among all the people on social media who speak for presidents, no one is louder or has a wider reach than me,” she declared.

She concluded with a resolute message, indicating the importance of the election and her commitment to active participation.

“The 2024 election is a do-or-die affair. We are all going to get involved, and we won’t stay silent anymore.”

Dada Joe Remix extradited to face romance scam charges in USA

Ghana’s nightlife mogul and alleged crypto kingpin, Nana Kojo Boateng, popularly known as “Dada Joe Remix,” has been extradited successfully to the United States to face romance scam charges.

This was made known on the Embassy’s Facebook page on July 1, 2025, following a collaborative effort between the Embassy’s Diplomatic Security Service special agents and Ghanaian authorities who offered support to the FBI in the operation.

Mr Boateng has been charged with leading a fraud ring that targeted Americans through deceptive romance and inheritance ploys, resulting in multimillion-dollar losses.

Thus, he is in the USA now to face prosecution.

A secret FBI operation last month led to the arrest of Dada Joe Remix.

Sources said he was “scooped up Rambo-style” over his alleged involvement in fraudulent financial activities.

Even though people have known him as a big player in the oil and gas business, rumors had it that he might have been involved in shady activities behind the scenes.

Panic reportedly gripped Accra’s elite social circles since the news broke.

Some prominent figures allegedly involved in cryptocurrency, forex trading, and high-end real estate have also allegedly gone into hiding.

It will be recalled that in 2022, the Nigerian social media influencer Ramon Abbas, who called himself Ray Hushpuppi and flaunted a lavish lifestyle supported by laundering millions of dollars, was sentenced in Los Angeles to more than 11 years in federal prison.

Ramon Abbas, 40, was also ordered by a federal judge to pay $1.7 million in restitution to two fraud victims, according to a statement from the United States Department of Justice.

Abbas was “one of the most prolific money launderers in the world,” Don Alway, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles office, said in the statement.

Prosecutors said Abbas and a Canadian man laundered money from various online crimes, including bank cyberheists and business email compromise, or BEC, a prolific crime in which crooks hack into email accounts, pretend to be someone they’re not, and fool victims into wiring money where it doesn’t belong.

Abbas had more than two million Instagram followers before he was arrested in 2020 in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

His social media posts showed him living a life of luxury, complete with private jets, ultra-expensive cars, and high-end clothes and watches.

“I hope someday I will be inspiring more young people to join me on this path,” read one Instagram post by Abbas, who pleaded guilty in April 2021 to one count of conspiracy to engage in money laundering.

  • Finance Minister ends recent engagement with China over debt restructuring

Finance Minister ends recent engagement with China over debt restructuring

The government of Ghana has brought to an end the series of engagements with China geared towards enhancing the debt restructuring efforts.

This information is outlined in the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, which highlights Ghana’s fiscal strategies, including debt restructuring efforts aimed at stabilizing the economy.

Highlighting the importance of this process, the Finance Minister stated, “We look forward to the support of this august House in achieving this objective within the established timeframe.”

The agreement formalizes the key terms of the restructuring, which were outlined in an Agreement in Principle (AIP) reached on January 12, 2024. It includes an extension of debt service repayments and provides approximately $2.8 billion in debt relief. Additionally, the MoU establishes a cut-off date of December 31, 2022, and imposes limits on disbursements during Ghana’s IMF-supported program from 2023 to 2026.

The signing of the MoU paves the way for negotiations with individual OCC member countries. As part of the process, Ghana has commenced data reconciliation and validation exercises with several creditors in preparation for the bilateral agreements.

In addition to official bilateral debt restructuring, the government is engaging commercial creditors, including Chinese commercial lenders, plurilateral institutions, and private banks, to restructure approximately $2.7 billion in commercial debt. Discussions on draft Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) are already underway, with a financial proposal for restructuring expected to be presented soon.

Furthermore, Ghana’s Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), launched in December 2022, has significantly influenced the domestic debt market. The government has relied on short-term securities to finance the budget, raising GH¢45.4 billion in net proceeds from treasury bill issuances.

The government remains committed to honoring its debt obligations, having successfully paid GH¢19.0 billion in DDEP bond coupons in 2024 and an additional GH¢9.5 billion in February 2025. The Finance Ministry believes these efforts, coupled with effective engagement with market participants, will enhance transparency, restore investor confidence, and stabilize the financial market.

The 2025 Budget Statement also notes an improvement in investor sentiment, reflected in declining interest rates on treasury bills. By the end of December 2024, the 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day treasury bill rates stood at 28.04%, 28.68%, and 30.07%, respectively—lower than the corresponding rates in 2023.

The government has also updated its 2024 Debt Sustainability Analysis (DSA) to align with the revised medium-term fiscal framework and the third IMF Review macro-framework. The DSA assessed Ghana’s public debt distress by evaluating macro-fiscal developments and agreements reached with the OCC and Eurobond holders. It examined Ghana’s solvency and liquidity status, considering current and future debt service obligations and their impact on the country’s debt dynamics in the medium- to long-term.

According to the analysis, Ghana’s external and public debt risk rating remains at ‘high risk’ of debt distress. The Present Value (PV) of the total debt-to-GDP ratio and the external debt service-to-revenue ratio are still above DSA thresholds in the near term but are projected to return to sustainable levels by 2028.

Beyond bilateral debt, Ghana is actively engaging commercial creditors, including Chinese commercial lenders, plurilateral institutions, and private banks, to restructure approximately $2.7 billion in commercial debt. Discussions on draft Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) are underway, with a financial proposal for restructuring expected to be presented soon.

Additionally, the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), launched in December 2022, continues to impact Ghana’s debt landscape. In 2024, the government honored DDEP bond coupon payments totaling GH¢19.0 billion, including GH¢12.1 billion in cash payments and GH¢6.9 billion in payment-in-kind (PIK) payments. In February 2025, the fourth coupon payment of GH¢9.5 billion (including GH¢3.5 billion in PIK payments) was successfully honored. To finance the budget, the government issued short-term securities, raising GH¢45.4 billion in net proceeds from treasury bill issuances.

Ghana’s domestic debt market has shown signs of improvement, with a gradual decline in interest rates due to improved investor confidence. By the end of December 2024, the 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day treasury bill rates stood at 28.04%, 28.68%, and 30.07%, respectively—lower than the corresponding rates in 2023, which were 29.36%, 31.95%, and 32.49%.

The government remains committed to ensuring effective communication with market participants, increasing transparency, and restoring investor confidence, which will be crucial in sustaining economic stability.

  • Gov’t urged to reclassify NACOC headquarters as security zone to check encroachment

Gov’t urged to reclassify NACOC headquarters as security zone to check encroachment

Head of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC)’s Research Bureau, Dr. Basha Ligbi, has urged the government to reclassify the commission’s headquarters as a security zone.

He cites the growing security risks due to private encroachment and nearby high-rise developments.

In a detailed presentation, Dr. Basha highlighted critical setback, including broken body scanners at airport terminals, inadequate office infrastructure, overcrowded detention facilities, and deteriorating vehicles.

He made this known when the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior paid a working visit to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to engage with its leadership and assess operational challenges hampering the fight against illicit drugs.

Director General of NACOC, Brigadier General Maxwell Obiba Mantey, described the escalating drug trade as a national emergency, warning that drug barons now rival armed robbers in threat level and are gaining influence at the highest levels.

He appealed for stronger institutional support and morale-boosting interventions to preserve the integrity of NACOC officers.

Chairman of the Committee and MP for Builsa North, Hon. James Agalga, assured the Commission of the Committee’s commitment to escalate the concerns to Parliament and engage key justice sector stakeholders to fast-track reforms in support of NACOC’s mandate.

NACOC has embarked on several activities to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, especially among the youth, as well as curb its widespread use.

NACOC has made several interceptions this year. In April, the watchdogs reported a wave of cocaine busts and other drug-related arrests.

June has been the most action-packed month so far, with a major drug incineration exercise on June 20 at Bundase Military Camp, where over 16,000 kilograms of narcotics were destroyed, and a June 24 swoop in Akyem Oda and Akroso that led to 14 arrests and the closure of three illegal chemical stores.

NACOC’s Deputy Director, Lawyer Twum Barimah, in a recent engagement with the media, noted that some kebab sellers, particularly the ones at bars and pubs that operate at pubs, mix cannabis with the meat they serve.

He expressed concern over the alarming increase in drug abuse by the Ghanaian youth population, calling for the implementation of immediate measures, warning that if the trend continues unchecked, Ghana may face a crisis shortly with an unreliable youth population.

“We are witnessing an alarming rate of drug abuse among young people. If we don’t take action now, in the next five years, we may not have dependable youth to lead the nation,” he cautioned.

A just leadership will lead to a just Ghana – President Mahama declares

His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized that the leadership that ensures its governance is backed by justice can create a just nation.

Delivering his speech at the National Day of Thanksgiving and Prayer today, July 1, held at the forecourt of the State House, noted that leadership must be grounded in justice, honesty, and in reverence for God.

The president mentioned that the Office of the President is not a privilege for personal gain but a sacred trust bestowed by the people and the responsibility to serve all, especially the most vulnerable.

“Even the office of the president, which even by the grace of God I now hold, is not above the law. Leadership must be grounded in justice, in honesty, and in reverence of God. If we want a just Ghana, we must be just in leadership,” he told Ghanaians at the national ceremony.

The government led members of the general public to observe the country’s maiden National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving under the theme “Reflect, Reset, and Renew for National Prosperity.”

The event included two separate services. The Christian service took place at the forecourt of the State House.

It was led by His Eminence Peter Cardinal Kodwo Appiah Turkson, the Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Social Sciences.

At the ceremony, His Eminence Peter Cardinal Kodwo Appiah Turkson entreated all and sundry to unite and work for the developed nation they dream about.

According to him, “the transformation of this land will not be a task for just the president.”

“With all the good intentions that he may have, the transformation of this land depends on us. We must not only be religious but also spiritual. So for all of us gathered here, I just like to tell you that biblical religion says one thing about all of us. It means that our belief in God entails our vision of the world and our place in that vision,” he added.

On his part, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, called for a national agenda to be established to sustain the growth and development of successive governments.

Meanwhile, the Muslim version of the thanksgiving service was held at the National Mosque of Ghana in Accra at 12:30 pm the same day in Accra.

It was led by the National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu who in his speech, entreated all to show immense gratitude to Allah for the blessings he has bestowed upon the country.

“Indeed, it is a principle divine that when God grants you his favours, you are obliged, irresistibly to show him gratitude,” the Chief Imam satsted.

In attendance to the national event were Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, Members of Parliament, Ministers of State, traditional authorities and other renowned dignitaries.

Delay questioned for deleting Amerado’s interviews from her YouTube channel

Television personality Deloris Frimpong Manso has been called out by rapper Amerado for deleting their interview from her YouTube channel.

  • Nollywood actor Tom Njemnaze appeals for funds for prostate cancer treatment

Nollywood actor Tom Njemnaze appeals for funds for prostate cancer treatment

Veteran Nigerian actor, Tom Njemanze, is reportedly battling prostate cancer and seeks financial aid for his full recovery.

This was confirmed by his junior colleague actor and producer Stanley Ajemba Chibueze, better known as Stanley Ontop.

“Hello guys, one of our Nollywood legends is sick and in need of urgent surgery….. Sir Tom Njamanze has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and he needs your support to undergo surgery. Nothing is too small, fams; help our legend live again,” he stated.

Stanley Ontop’s fundraising appeal notably included vintage footage of Njemanze performing alongside both Nkem Owoh and Sam Loco Efe.

Stanley’s emotional appeal has struck a chord across the Nollywood community and social media.

While many have pledged to contribute their widow’s mite, others are calling on the Actors Guild of Nigeria to come to the actor’s aid.

Content creator and stand-up comedian Aone De Comedian had earlier shared photos of the actor in a hospital bed, indicating that Njemanze had been sick, and a social group he belonged to had visited him.

The photos he shared also showed heartbreaking footage of Tom Njemanze requiring oxygen support while receiving treatment through his veins.

Tom Njemanze, born on December 9, 1939, represents a generation of actors who helped establish Nollywood’s foundation during its formative decades.

Beyond his acting career, Njemanze was also known as a highlife musician, demonstrating the multi-talented nature that characterised many early Nigerian entertainment figures.

His filmography includes notable productions such as Tokunboh (1999), Igbotic Love (2014), Hitler (2007), Brain Box, Pounds and Dollars, Twin Brothers, and Magic Cap. These films span different eras of Nollywood’s evolution, showcasing Njemanze’s adaptability and enduring presence in the industry.

Perhaps most memorably, Njemanze established close working relationships with other Nollywood legends, including the late Sam Loco Efe, with whom he appeared in numerous productions.

Continue to rest in peace – Mr Ibu’s wife pens message on one-year anniversary

Widow of the late Nigerian actor John Okafor (Mr Ibu), Stella Maris Okafor, has penned a message on social media in commemoration of her husband’s death a year ago.

“One year you were laid to rest. We miss you so much. Continue to rest in peace, Amen,” she wrote on Instagram.

Nollywood lost a legend when reports confirmed the passing of John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, in March last year.

The 62-year-old actor, known for his comedic genius, passed away at Evercare Hospital after battling illness and undergoing multiple surgeries.

Mr Ibu’s career in Nollywood was marked by unforgettable performances in films like “A Fool At 40,” “Police Recruit,” “Mr Ibu in London,” and “Issakaba.”

His unique style and infectious humor endeared him to audiences, making him a beloved figure in Nigerian and international cinema. News of his death sparked an outpouring of condolences on social media, as fans mourned the loss of a true icon.

The Actor Guild of Nigeria (AGN) National President, Emeka Rollas, on Instagram commiserated with the bereaved family.

“…Mr Ibu suffered cardiac arrest according to his manager of 24 years, Mr Don Single Nwuzor. I announce with a deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu didn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace,” Mr Rollas’ post read.

On December 17, 2023, the family of the 62-year-old actor disclosed further details regarding his inability to seek additional treatment abroad.

In a statement, the family clarified that medical professionals had deemed him “Not Fit To Fly,” making it challenging to arrange his transfer for advanced medical care due to airlines refusing to transport him.

The family elaborated that the root cause of the illness was not diabetes but rather a persistent clotting of blood in Mr. Ibu’s leg, stemming from diseased blood vessels, along with other health complications posing a significant risk to his life.

The Enugu-born actor appeared in over 200 Nollywood films, including “Mr. Ibu” (2004), “Mr. Ibu and His Son,” “Coffin Producers,” “Husband Suppliers,” “International Players,” “Mr. Ibu in London” (2004), “Police Recruit” (2003), “9 Wives” (2005), “Ibu in Prison” (2006), and “Keziah” (2007).

I left Lynx long before ‘Monica’ was released – Kuami Eugene

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Kuami Eugene has revealed that he parted ways with Lynx Entertainment record label long before the release of his hit song ‘Monica.’

He made this known to Doreen Avio of Joy FM during an interview.

“I wasn’t the first person to put it out there that I left Lynx. Richie did that actually, so after he announced that I’ve left Lynx Entertainment on his account, I had a lot of calls, but people didn’t know from ‘Monica’ time, we were in talks for exits a long time ago.”

“When I had Monica playing, I was partially out of Lynx a long time, but I just didn’t want to come put it out there, and when I had Belinda, I was not even at Lynx at all.”

He also revealed his decision to cut off his signature Afro hair to mark a fresh start in his music career following his exit from Lynx Entertainment.

“I woke up one morning, and it had been a long time since I got signed to Lynx. I’ve been changing hairstyles from one hairstyle to another hairstyle, but I’ve not had a down cut for a very long time, for about six years. I’ll twist it, then I will do this, and I will unbraid it, leaving the afro. I changed it just to show a new look and the fact that it’s a new beginning for me from Lynx. It’s a transition from the Lynx boy to your family, sweet boy Kwami Eugene,” he said.

The singer has further acknowledged public reactions to his exit from Lynx, citing A Plus and MC Portfolio, who have publicly praised his talent and potential.

“A lot of people are happy. I remember A Plus said something that with Kwame’s talent, if he gets the chance to be on his own with the proper management, he’ll become a very big person one day,” he said.

Kuami Eugene’s hit song “Monica” dropped on October 11, 2023, as part of his third studio album, Love and Chaos.

In the aftermath of its release, “Monica” rose through the charts, topping local and global streaming platforms.

In a conversation with Berla Mundi years ago, Kuami Eugene opened up about the inspiration behind the song.

According to him, a lady fan he had never met in person constantly sent him alluring videos on Snapchat for an entire year.

The artist described the experience as unexpected, sharing the unique connection between him and the admirer

On Thursday, September 14, 2023, the artist dropped a brand-new song called “Fate” (Black Panther) along with an official music video.

‘Fate’ is an emotional Afrobeats tune that has the artiste reflecting on life and its struggles but resolves to remain steadfast in his pursuit of victory.

The official music video for the song was shot and directed by Xbills Ebenezer, and it features a number of abstract scenes laced with impassioned expressions.

‘Fate’ will serve as a curtain-raiser for the ‘Love & Chaos’ album expected in October this year.

  • OSP collaborates with AngloGold Ashanti to tackle corruption in mining sector

OSP collaborates with AngloGold Ashanti to tackle corruption in mining sector

The office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), has announced it partnership with AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) as part of efforts to fight corruption in the mining sector.

This initiative, he said, was led by  Director for Strategy and Research at the OSP, Samuel Appiah Darko.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is stepping up efforts to reduce corruption in the mining sector.”

“In a bid to push back against corruption, AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) partnered with the Office to engage its stakeholders on the risks of engaging in corrupt acts within its operations in Obuasi, in the Ashanti Region,” the OSP wrote on it X page Monday, June 30 2025.

He shed light on the core responsibilities of the OSP, emphasizing its authority to investigate and prosecute corruption cases, as well as recover illicitly acquired assets linked to public officials, politicians, their relatives and players in the private sector.

Following an invitation to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), selected journalists were trained on the legal frameworks and procedures surrounding the confiscation of assets linked to individuals suspected of corruption and other financial crimes.

The session, organized by the Ghana Anti-Corruption coalition (GACC) in collaboration with the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), forms part of a broader effort to engage the media as vital partners in advancing transparency and accountability in Ghana.

Director of Asset Recovery and Management at the OSP, Albert Akurugu, took participants through the Office’s jurisdiction in asset recovery and management.

This included the legal processes for identifying, freezing, and confiscating assets suspected to be linked to corruption.

    Article image 1

Albert Akurugu explained the lawful steps the OSP is empowered to take under Ghanaian law.

He clarified that it is not an unlawful act but a legitimate part of investigations—either to gather evidence or to preserve assets believed to be tainted.

He further stressed the vital role journalists play in fighting corruption: “The media must raise public awareness, promote transparency, and hold institutions to account through accurate and responsible reporting.”

The session brought together other state law enforcement bodies, including the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), creating a shared platform for engaging the media on their complementary roles in combating financial crime.

In 2023, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) complied with the ruling and order of the High Court, Accra, dated 31 August 2023, by unfreezing the frozen bank accounts and investments of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

The OSP also returned the seized cash sums of Ms. Dapaah in the presence and assent of Ms. Dapaah and her lawyers.

The satisfaction by the OSP of the order of the High Court terminated the proceedings of the seizure of the cash amounts from Ms. Dapaah commenced on 24 July 2023 and the freezing of her bank accounts and investments effected from 26 July 2023.

The OSP was investigating Ms. Dapaah for suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses involving the ownership and source(s) of large amounts of money associated with her.

This was after the reports emerged that the domestic help of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, had been dragged to court for allegedly stealing $1 million, 300,000 euros, several million cedis, and personal effects of the former minister and her husband valued at thousands of Ghana cedis and dollars.

Subsequent to the indicated ruling and order of the High Court and the compliance by the OSP with said ruling and order, the Special Prosecutor considered that he had reasonable grounds to suspect that the cash amounts seized from and returned to Ms. Dapaah were tainted property and it was necessary to exercise the power of seizure to prevent the concealment or loss of said cash amounts.

Therefore, the Special Prosecutor again invoked his statutory power under section 32(1)(a) of Act 959 by directing the seizure from Ms. Dapaah of the cash amounts previously seized from her. Authorized officers of the OSP have seized said cash amounts from Ms. Dapaah.

Noguchi reports 9 H1N1 cases at Anum SHS

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research has confirmed the outbreak of H1N1 cases in Anum Senior High School in the Eastern Region.

Nine samples from the school tested positive for the respiratory disease, also known as swine flu.

Health authorities are reportedly monitoring suspected cases of an emerging outbreak at the Bonsu Secondary Technical School, where additional samples have been taken for testing.

Months ago, residents of Avetakpo in the Ho West District were appealing for urgent medical assistance following the outbreak of a mysterious skin condition rapidly affecting the community.

Thirty people, including adults and children, were affected in the community of just over 200 residents.

Although health officials had earlier visited the area to evaluate the situation, locals are yet to receive support from them.

Many in the community described the outbreak as serious, warning that the disease could spread even further if swift action is not taken.

Parents, in particular, were growing increasingly concerned about the well-being of their children, while others expressed disappointment over the delayed response from health authorities.

Some residents, speaking to Citi News, emphasized the worrying nature of the condition, especially given how quickly it appears to be spreading among the population.

“It started some weeks ago with an itchy skin and I went to the hospital at Akrade and it went mild a little but it came back some few days ago, with some rashes on my hand and legs.”

“I reported the incident to the headman and before we realized, some children in the community also developed the rashes on their skins,” said Rebecca Dawudu.

Confirming the situation, Prosper Zateh, the community’s headman, joined residents in calling for immediate health intervention to contain the outbreak.

Former GIHOC boss secures GHS500k bail after arrest

Former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has secured a bail of GHS500,000 with two sureties.

He was arrested in connection with the alleged theft of vehicles belonging to the state company.

On Monday, 30 June, Mr Jumah secured the bail after appearing at the CID headquarters, where he was being held for questioning.

Per reports, he was picked up at his residence in Kumasi on Sunday, June 29.

Maxwell Kofi Jumah was said to be in the custody of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

It is reported that security personnel in May attempted to retrieve state vehicles in his possession. The personnel were unable to, as Mr Jumah was not home.

In reaction to the event, Mr. Jumah, in a Facebook post, wrote, “I hear the Mahama people want to come for the GIHOC car in my possession. Can someone tell them that the car is parked safely?”

“They can come for it. They should also prepare to hand over my properties to me. It is more than the car. A whole lot more. Interesting times ahead.”

Sources say Mr Jumah is being investigated for unauthorised sale of assets and vehicle acquisition during his tenure. According to reports, he sold company properties in Tema valued at over $700,000 without authorization.

Maxwell Kofi Jumah was appointed to head GIHOC in 2017 by former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

In December 2024, the immediate past government directed all of its appointees to return state vehicles by January 3, 2025.

The Ghana Police Service led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor has confirmed that police have so far recovered three of the vehicles linked to the case.

“As of this afternoon, we have retrieved three of the vehicles in question,” she added.

“He is cooperating with the investigation, and we will proceed based on the evidence gathered.”

TGMA is the only event attracting major sponsorships in Ghana – Kojo Poku

Executive Director of Big Ideaz Consult event company, Kojo Poku, has said that the only event in Ghana that attracts big sponsorships is the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), organized by Charterhouse.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Joy FM, Kojo Poku made claims that Ghana has lost most of the big brands known for their heavy investment into concerts.

Adding to that, the few who are left, he said, have scaled back on their investment in the events industry.

“The biggest sponsorship anybody can get is what Charterhouse is getting for TGMA, because they have a long-term partnership,” he stated.

Kojo Poku also mentioned that, “Over the last how many years we’ve lost all the big brands in Ghana. As we speak right now, there’s no brand in Ghana that even spends more than a million dollars the whole year on events.”

Meanwhile, Talent and brand manager Bernard Kafui Sokpe, popularly known as Mista Meister, has vowed never to invest in organizing concerts in Ghana.

His comment is a reaction to Executive Director of Big Ideaz Consult, Kojo Poku’s recent remarks on Joy FM that “We are all (every event organiser) in debt; people are chasing me and calling my phone every day because we do events hoping we get it back.”

While Mista Meister did not mention a particular event he organized and made losses, he confirms that the venture is indeed not worth their time and effort.

“Events in Ghana are not lucrative. Especially high-budget events like concerts etc. Even if you have Jesus Christ and the 12 disciples as headliners, the cost of setting up the event always out budgets ticketing revenue and sponsorships. Me mome dieeer never again!” he wrote.

In contrast, renowned radio and TV presenter Mercury Quaye and YFM radio presenter, Kojo Manuel, have been complaining for a couple of years about how event organisers treat MCs in terms of compensation.

Merqury Quaye called on event organizers to provide fairer compensation for MCs, while Kojo Manuel questioned why these organizers tend to undervalue the work of MCs as merely supplementary to the event.

Kojo Manuel revealed instances where some event MCs were compensated with drinks and even women.

“This is strictly a business unless you are telling me that you are giving me something that I value in return for it. No two ways,” he noted.

KOD posted gay South Africans’ photos to promote them – KOKA alleges

Media personality Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, has criticized Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Jubilee House, Kofi Okyere-Darko (KOD), for a post he shared on Facebook about some South African gay personalities.

KOD shared a video of two men kissing, labeling it with the question ” “Who are they?”.

KOKA, however, dismissed KOD’s post as a camouflage.

“This is not interrogation, this is promotion,” KOKA said during an appearance on Movement TV on June 25, 2025.

“You don’t work for the FBI. You’re not investigating anything. This was a subtle endorsement using your position and platform.”

He has called on President John Mahama to immediately sack KOD, describing his actions as “shameful and embarrassing.”

“KOD must be dismissed from Jubilee House,” he insisted.

Days ago, two South African men, identified as Rue and Lue, stirred reactions on social media after sharing photos of themselves kissing under Ghana’s Independence Arch.

They adorned themselves in matching red-themed outfits, as they were basking in each other’s love under one of Ghana’s symbolic national monuments.

One of the men was light-skinned and the other was dark-skinned.

Their kissing moment under the Independence Arch drew reactions from many social media users.

While some social media users supported the couple’s stance on LGBTQ+ visibility, many others have expressed disappointment and outrage over the location they chose for their photos.

They argue that the Independence Arch is not merely a site for tourism, but a powerful symbol that should be shielded from what they deem as “provocative” messages.

Ningo-Prampram MP and Minister for Communications, Sam Nartey George, has strongly condemned the act, describing it as a blatant display of homosexuality and desecration of Ghana’s national symbols.

“The disrespect of our national symbols is despicable to say the least,” he wrote on X, Thursday June 26 2025.

  • Women are ruining their sex lives with vibrators – Kwaku Manu

Women are ruining their sex lives with vibrators – Kwaku Manu

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has revealed that sex toys are gradually destroying the reproductive organs of women.

“Those machines and devices that some women use to please themselves are destroying their vaginas. Right now, they can’t even be satisfied when they have intercourse with their partners,” he told Empress Gifty on United Showbiz.

He further explained that some women, after using sex toys, especially vibrators, develop expectations about sexual pleasures that are difficult for their partners to meet.

He noted that beyond ruining the sex life of these women, it is now a major threat to marital intimacy.

“A man will do all the work, and the woman will say she’s not satisfied because he’s not vibrating like how her toys do. It’s destroying marriages,” he claimed.

A couple of years ago, former Minister of Communications and Ablekuma West Member of Parliament Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, expressed concern regarding the anti-LGBT bill’s criminalization of sex toys.

She said that heterosexual couples who use sex toys to improve their sex lives would unintentionally be impacted by the criminalization of sex toy use found in clause 3(c) of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021.

Clause 3(c) of the bill explicitly prohibits sexual intercourse between a man and an inanimate object or between a woman and an inanimate object.

She emphasized that if the intention of the house is to criminalize sex toys, it should be explicitly stated that the bill is not solely directed at the LGBT community but applies to everyone.

In the absence of such clarity, she has urged for the immediate removal of Clause 3(c).

These remarks were made during the deliberation of the Anti-LGBT bill on the floor of Parliament.

“And I think we raised this when the committee was considering it that the proposed amendment in 3(c) may create unintended consequences because sexual intercourse between a man and an inanimate object or between a woman and an inanimate object would necessarily include sexual intercourse with all manner of aids that couple use to enhance the sexual experience.”

“And I’m not sure if that’s what the intention of this bill is. It would necessarily include sex toys and other aids that couples, heterosexual couples also use to enhance the sexual experience.

“So if that is what the house intends then we have to be clear in our minds that we may be criminalising activities which may not necessarily be limited to only those LGBTQI community that the target of this bill is, but it may also be targeting straight couples who use sex enhancement tools to enhance the sexual experience.

“So we need to be mindful of the unintended consequences of 3(c) could be  and I’ll propose that 3(c) be deleted from this amendment.”

Disagreements emerged in Parliament regarding the appropriate punishment for individuals engaging in unnatural carnal knowledge within the LGBTQ+ community.

The proposed bill seeks to criminalize such activities, prescribing a penalty of 3 to 5 years.

However, the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee suggested a prison term of up to 3 years without specifying a minimum sentence. The Chairman of the Committee clarified the reasoning behind this proposal on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

“Most of the religious bodies were supporting the fact that they would give people who are prepared to go through reforms, the opportunity to go through. If we make a strict law that if you are found guilty, or you practice this, you don’t have an option. Mr. Speaker, we don’t have a community service that would have been more severe than giving the person a custodial sentence, because the society will look down upon you.”

“But to caution you or to give you deserve imprisonment or imprisonment, if we leave it to the discretion of the judge, they are also members of this society, they are learned, and depending on the circumstances, that’s why I am comfortable if we give the upper limit without saying that the person must be imprisoned as a minimum requirement.”

Sam George, one of the bill’s sponsors, stated that guidance on the amount of penalty units to be imposed on offenders would be essential in judging the severity of the appropriate punishment.

“We should then get advice on what the minimum penalty or 750 units is concurrent with, is it three months or six months? So we have a lower limit also for custodial sentence,” he said on the floor.”

But the Speaker interjected, saying that there was already a law on equivalence on penalty units and therefore “that will apply.”

Following the discussions, the Speaker postponed the questions to the parliamentary drafters. Their task is to create a comprehensive document that accurately mirrors the intentions expressed by various legislators during the deliberations.

I have given up organizing concerts in Ghana – Mista Meister

Talent and brand manager Bernard Kafui Sokpe, popularly known as Mista Meister, has vowed never to invest in organizing concerts in Ghana.

His comment is a reaction to Executive Director of Big Ideaz Consult, Kojo Poku’s recent remarks on Joy FM that “We are all (every event organiser) in debt, people are chasing me and calling my phone every day because we do events hoping we get it back.”

Kojo further highlighted that even media houses engage in business transactions with clients but are remunerated with airtime, which is a mutually agreed upon arrangement.

“It’s an agreement but you don’t call me and tell me that I have ten bottles for you,” he pointed out.

According to Kojo, this type of compensation is often encountered by MCs who primarily work in the party-oriented segment of the industry.

“When I was coming up some of the things that I was offered to be paid with was my name being on the artwork alone. That was somebody’s way of trying to pay me.

“Because nobody knew me and they were putting my name on the artwork. They would say ‘oh when you come in you will get free drinks. When you come in, I will introduce you to girls’,” he stated.

Court adjourns Sarkodie’s lawsuit against Ecobank to July 25

The Accra High Court has adjourned the hearing of Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie’s lawsuit against Ecobank Ghana PLC over what he describes as a misrepresentation of him in an anti-fraud campaign.

3Music TV reported that the court has set July 25 to hear the case.

The rap icon Sarkodie initiated legal action against Ecobank Ghana and a man bearing a striking resemblance to him.

He accused the financial institution of exploiting his image without consent.

According to court documents, Sarkodie contends that Ecobank featured his lookalike in an advertisement he considers misleading and damaging.

He argued that the portrayal gave the public the impression he was affiliated with or endorsing the bank, despite being a brand ambassador for rival institution First Bank.

Sarkodie’s legal team asserted that the misrepresentation did not only confuse consumers but also compromised existing commercial relationships and tarnished his brand value.

Sarkodie is seeking the following from the court:

    • A permanent injunction restraining Ecobank from using his image, name, or any similar likeness in future advertisements.
    • Monetary compensation for the reputational harm and financial losses incurred.
    • An immediate removal of all promotional materials that feature his lookalike.

His lawyers insist that the use of a lookalike, particularly of a high-profile figure with active endorsements, is unethical and a violation of publicity rights.

Ecobank was served and given eight days to respond to the suit or face a possible default judgment.

  • Ghana has over 2 months fuel to supply – NPA boss reveals

Ghana has over 2 months fuel to supply – NPA boss reveals

Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Edudzi Tamakloe, has allayed fears of fuel shortages, stating that Ghana’s reserves are enough to last more than two months amid the ongoing Israel-Iran tensions.

Mr. Tamakloe disclosed that Ghana currently holds over 200 million litres of petrol and more than 150 million litres of diesel, quantities he described as sufficient to stabilize the market in the medium term.

“I can assure the good people of Ghana that currently, as we speak, we have enough stock or reserve to last us beyond two months. With all efforts, we are confident that we wouldn’t have any problem with supply disruptions at al” he said.

He made these remarks amid growing concerns that rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East could disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global oil transport.

Ghana introduced a new GH₵1 per litre fuel levy on June 3, 2025, under the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act—commonly referred to as the “Dumsor Levy”—with plans to implement it on June it on june 9 but later postponed to June 16.

The surcharge was designed to address funding gaps and support debt repayment in the energy sector.

However, it was met with swift opposition from civil society groups and industry stakeholders, who condemned the lack of stakeholder engagement and the seemingly discretionary manner in which the levy was introduced.

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) announced its suspension last week pending further review.

Mr. Tamakloe has stated that government is monitoring global developments and will decide on the rollout date in consultation with stakeholders.

“The government is always monitoring global events and will respond in the next foreseeable days. It doesn’t look like there has been any serious disruption… but there will be enough consultation with the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies, among others, before the rollout will come,” he explained.

Meanwhile the Director of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Communications Department, Julie Kozack, had welcomed the implementation of the Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy that introduced a GHC1 fuel levy.

At a press briefing, Julie Kozack noted that the country stands a better chance of addressing its energy sector crisis with the implementation of the levy.

“On the fuel levy, what I can say is that this is a new measure that will help generate additional resources to tackle the challenges in Ghana’s energy sector, and it is also going to bolster Ghana’s ability to deliver on the fiscal objectives under the programme,” she said.

    Under the new levy:

Motor Spirit (Super Petrol): from Ghc0.95 to Ghc1.95AGO/Diesel and Marine Gas Oil (Foreign): from Ghc0.93 to Ghc1.93Marine Gas Oil (Local): from Ghc0.03 to Ghc0.23Heavy Fuel Oil (Residual Fuel Oil – RFO): from Ghc0.04 to Ghc0.24Partially Refined Oil (Naphtha): from Ghc0.95 to Ghc1.95Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) remains unchanged at Ghc0.73

Products lifted by a Petroleum Product Marketing Company (PPMC) before June 16 will still be subject to the old levy rates.

Any “cash-and-carry” transactions by PMMCs for which products are lifted on or after June 1, 2025, will be subject to the new rates.

Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, has defended government’s move despite opposition from some stakeholders in the energy sector.

He noted that the timing of the introduction of the levy is apt as the cedi continues to appreciate against major trading currencies.

The minister projects to generate revenue ranging between GH¢5 billion and GH¢6 billion to support the procurement of liquid fuel.

Some stakeholders in the energy sector have expressed their displeasure over the approval of the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, by Parliament and its pending implementation.

On the matter, Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs), Dr Riverson Oppong Peprah, warned that the implementation of the levy could drive fuel prices higher, adding further strain on consumers and the downstream sector.

“When fuel prices began to fall, it wasn’t because the cedi gained stability; rather, it was due to a drop in plant prices caused by the decline in West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices. Only after that did the cedi stabilise and support the downward trend.”

“As we speak today, plant prices are already rising again. So, I urge the government to reconsider this levy since there are other options,” he counselled.

  • Interior Ministry reveals GHS100k insurance for GNFS

Interior Ministry reveals GHS100k insurance for GNFS

Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has announced a GHC100,000.00 insurance package for personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service who sustain permanent injuries in the line of duty.

This was announced by the sector minister during his address as the Special Guest of Honour and Reviewing Officer, at a passing out ceremony of 1,658 recruits on June 20.

“Under the scheme, GH₵50,000.00 will be paid to firefighters sustaining non-permanent injuries in the line of duty. GH₵100,000.00 will be awarded in cases of permanent disability in the line of duty. GH₵100,000.00 will be given in the event of a firefighter’s death on active duty. Even natural deaths while in service will attract a benefit of GH₵50,000.00,” he announced.

He clarified that in the case of death in line of duty, family of the deceased officer will receive GH₵100,000.00.

According to Honourable Muntaka, the introduction of this new insurance package for all GNFS personnel is aimed at boosting morale and ensuring financial security for officers injured or killed in their line of duty.

“This is just the beginning,” the Minister emphasized. “We are committed to improving welfare packages, logistics support, and working conditions for our gallant fire officers, whose sacrifices often go unnoticed,” he added

The grand passing-out parade held at the Fire Academy and Training School in Jamestown Accra, marks the successful completion of training by Course 55, comprising 1,658 recruits, made up of 843 men and 815 women who have now officially joined the frontlines of national emergency response.

It was not only a celebration of discipline and transformation but also a testament to the Service’s commitment to strengthening its capacity to serve and protect Ghanaians nationwide.

He commended the recruits for their resilience, dedication, and patriotism.

The Honourable Minister also used the occasion to highlight critical challenges facing the Service, including the persistent issue of prank calls to emergency lines. He warned that such misuse of resources delays real-life interventions and can cost lives.

He urged the public, especially the youth, to treat emergency numbers with seriousness and responsibility.

Additionally, he expressed concern over the 2.3% reduction in fire incidents recorded between first quarter (Q1) of 2024 and first quarter (Q1) of 2025 from 2,313 to 2,261 fires calling it a “small victory” but emphasizing that even one preventable fire remains too many.

He appealed to citizens to embrace preventive measures and collaborate with the GNFS and local authorities to ensure safer communities.

Under a bright sunshine amidst the sounds of marching Regimental Band and disciplined drills, families, dignitaries, senior officers, and invited guests gathered to witness the culmination of 28 weeks of rigorous training. It included theoretical instruction and hands-on practice in fire science, electrical safety, breathing apparatus operations, first aid, fire prevention, building construction, physical fitness, parade discipline, among others.

Four exceptional recruits were honored for their outstanding performance during the course. Recruit Fireman Samuel Kenneth Ayibontey was named the Overall Best Recruit for excelling across all training modules. Recruit Fireman Anamfo Gerrard Adombila received the award for Best in Academics. Recruit Fireman Emmanuel Addo Ahunu was recognized as Best in Foot Drill. Recruit Firewoman Anita Awagah earned the Commandant’s Award for Best Conduct.

The Interior Minister himself, presented the awards celebrating not only individual excellence but also the broader spirit of professionalism and teamwork instilled throughout the training program.

“Your achievements are commendable, but your journey has just begun. Continue to uphold the values of integrity, courage, and selflessness that define this noble profession,”  Hon. Muntaka told the recruits.

The graduation of Course 55 marks a significant milestone in the Service’s mission to modernize and expand its capabilities. These newly passed-out officers will be deployed across the country to reinforce frontline units, respond to emergencies, and educate communities on fire safety practices.

The Commandant of the Fire Academy reiterated the Service’s resolve to continue producing well-rounded, highly skilled, and service-oriented personnel capable of responding effectively to the evolving nature of fire hazards and disasters in Ghana.

As the final salute was rendered and the Regimental Band played the closing march, the ceremony concluded with a sense of pride, hope, and renewed purpose.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) stands stronger than ever, ready to meet the demands of a fast-changing world.

With enhanced training, improved welfare support, and growing public awareness, Ghana’s firefighting force is not only growing in number but also in strength, determination, and readiness to serve the nation.

Meanwhile, 11 agencies under the Ministry of the Interior together with the Minister and the Deputy Minister have collectively donated GHS1 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares at a short ceremony at Jubilee House  in Accra.

This was made known on the ministry’s facebook page, Friday June 20.

Honourable Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who led the team for the donation, explained that it was a gesture of goodwill, as sickness knows no boundaries and can affect anyone.

His Excellency the President John Dramani Mahama expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of the Interior and its Agencies for their support, emphasizing that the initiative is rooted in compassion, equity, and shared national responsibility.

The fund is a fulfillment of the  President’s campaign promise, aimed at relieving the financial burden of sufferers of chronic diseases.

I worked hard, saved money to safeguard my life today – Lucky Mensah

HighLife musician, Lucky Mensah has revealed that he is financially sound today because he failed to solely depend on fleeting fame and temporary gigs during his days.

According to him strategic planning, hard work, and wise investments have set him apart from other entertainers who now complain about hunger due to a lack of shows and income.

“I worked hard in the UK, saved money, and came back home to begin my building project. That was a turning point,” he shared.

The musician stated that he has invested in in multiple businesses like a hotel, a residential apartment complex for rent, and a thriving transport business.

Adding to that, he runs a bakery, owns an events center, and operates the Lucky Mensah Live Band and a recording studio.

He also operates the LM Soccer Academy, which nurtures talented 10 to 17-year-old boys across Ghana.

Several veteran Ghanaian musicians, including Edward Akwasi Boateng, Kwabena Kwabena, K.K. Kabobo, Naa Amanua of Wulomei, and others like Edem, have publicly shared their financial struggles despite past fame, citing issues such as poor royalty systems, lack of industry support, mismanagement by MUSIGA and GHAMRO, and failure to invest wisely during their peak years.

Many are now battling health challenges or working small jobs just to survive.

Some have been forced to publicly appeal for help, relying on donations from fans and fellow musicians.

Without lasting solutions, the next generation of artists risks facing the same fate.

Meanwhile, in 2017, the President of the  Ghana Actors’ Guild, Samuel Fiscian, disclosed that several Ghanaian actors are now jobless due to the decline in the promotion of local movies.

“We are challenged by the influx of foreign productions and we acknowledge the fact that the taste of the Ghanaian has changed,” he said.

  • Accra’s “Garage” lounge to end operations by June 29

Accra’s “Garage” lounge to end operations by June 29

Garage, one of Accra’s top nightlife venues, is shutting down after five and a half years of great music, lively events, and lasting memories.

This was made known via Instagram with  “End of an Era – Thank You Accra,” as title of their announcement made on June 20.

“What started as a bold idea turned into a movement,” the post read. “A place where Accra came alive with music, flavor, culture, and unforgettable memories,” the post read.

Although the Garage is closing, the team assured fans that this isn’t the end, but just an end to a chapter.

“You made it what it was. This isn’t goodbye forever. Just the end of this chapter,” the statement said.

Garage is, however, calling on all past patrons and those who danced, drank, and partied with them to come together one last time on Sunday, June 29, for a memorable farewell event.

Garage is located in the bustling heart of East Legon.

It has carved out a reputation as one of the go-to spots for nightlife in Accra.

Over the years, they have made themselves known for cutting-edge music, which attracts a diverse crowd as well playing host to countless nights of dance, celebration, and community building.

This development has left many loyal clients emotional, amidst unknown reasons for the closure.

The Independent Ghana observed their comment section flooded with mixed reactions as some commended the club for its incredible run and impact on the city’s social scene.

Others, on the other hand, expressed sadness and disappointment over its sudden end.

  • I don’t watch pirated content, I know how much it hurts – Shirley Frimpong Manso

I don’t watch pirated content, I know how much it hurts – Shirley Frimpong Manso

Ghanaian film producer Shirley Frimpong Manso has stated that she refuses every offer to watch pirated contents on any platform.

According to her, she understands how much it hurts film producers to invest money into film production as well as the emotional toll that accompanies the process.

“I want to kill all of them. I have a personal concern and I do not watch pirated stuff, I don’t care. People have said, oh, have you seen it? I said no. They said, oh, use this link and you can watch it. I never do because I know how much it hurts to spend,” she said on Hitz FM.

The film producer highlighted that many people don’t fully understand or appreciate the behind-the-scenes sacrifices and heavy investment that go into making a film.

Adding that it is not just about shooting a scene, but entails a complex and costly process.

“Movie making is excruciating – the money – having to have 30, 40 plus people on set every day feeding them, it’s a lot. I don’t think people could have wrapped their head around the fact that even a 5 or a 10 day production, the people on set, we are feeding them, you’re buying breakfast, lunch, and dinner sometimes. It’s a whole thing, the investment, the emotional, the money aspect of it and stuff,” she said.

To this end, Shirley Frimpong Manso expresses frustration towards dilly-dallying efforts by authorities in taking on culprits of piracy in the aftermath of clear evidence and proof of the criminal acts.

“I don’t understand why we know who the culprits are and somehow they’re still out there doing it. This is something that we can’t warn and it’s a criminal offence.”

“There’s evidence to what it is that they’re doing. I don’t understand why we’re babysitting this kind of thing,” she said.

Meanwhile, the film producer had earlier vented her spleen on why the Ghanaian media was over-fixated on Tyler Perry’s movie titled ‘Straw’

She indicated that if the attention given to Tyler’s new movie was accorded movies other Ghanaian film makers have done, they would have made some impact.

“Why are we talking about Tyler Perry’s movie when we could easily have that same attention come to Shirley Frimpong-Manso movie?” she asked.

Founder and Executive Director of Dikan Center, Paul Ninson, stated during the launch that the initiative marked the beginning of a powerful journey.

“HerPress is about making sure women’s stories are told, their viewpoints shared widely, and their reporting talents recognized. By investing in these journalists, we are investing in Ghana’s future and strengthening our democracy,” he remarked.

HerPress is committed to elevating the presence and influence of women in journalism by providing a rich learning experience that features hands-on training, personalized mentorship, and continuous career support.

The program also seeks to promote gender balance in newsrooms and ensure women’s voices contribute meaningfully to national conversations.

The 20 selected fellows at the event engaged in dynamic networking sessions and took part in an insightful panel discussion that delved into the obstacles and opportunities faced by women pursuing journalism.

Attendees included representatives from major media outlets, gender-focused NFOs, and public sector institutions working to promote equal opportunities for women.

The initiative received major funding from the Australian High Commission.

Australia’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Berenice Owen‑Jones, underscored her country’s support for gender equity and praised HerPress as a partnership that will “transform journalism in Ghana by enabling women reporters to pursue their work without fear of harassment or discrimination.”

She acknowledged the tough realities female journalists face and expressed confidence that HerPress will help create a safer, more inclusive media environment.

Looking ahead, HerPress participants will take part in intensive practical workshops led by both Ghanaian and international media experts.

The program will culminate in an annual HerPress Summit to celebrate alumni achievements and set new goals for gender‑balanced reporting.

Paul Ninson wrapped up the launch by expressing gratitude to the Australian High Commission for their vital contribution and the affirmation of commitment to creating more opportunities for women journalists, especially in regions outside Accra.

The Dikan Centre is calling on partners, media institutions and advocates of gender equality to come on board and support the HerPress initiative.

FBI must investigate Chris Waddle’s questionable wealth – KOKA

In the aftermath of recent FBI-led operations in Ghana involving suspected fraud, entertainment pundit Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, has pushed for an inquiry into Criss Waddle’s source of wealth.

His concerns come on the back of Criss Waddle’s frequent display of large sums of money and luxurious vehicles on social media.

In an interview spotted by The Independent Ghana on social media, KOKA intimated that since the musician criticized Akufo-Addo’s government over economic hardship, it is appropriate to investigate the legitimacy of his wealth too.

“I am looking for the FBI to ask them to commerce an investigation on Criss Waddle because his source of revenue is questionable to me.”

“Lately, when our girls are celebrating their birthday, you will see them posting their wish list on Snapchat because they don’t want to fry eggs anymore since there are people buying cars for them.”

“The FBI should look for him, and also look for all the cars he has shipped into the country…Those who claim that they bought their Rolls-Royce from Acheke should also be investigated,” he added.

A secret FBI operation has led to the arrest of Ghana’s nightlife mogul and alleged crypto kingpin, Nana Kojo Boateng, popularly known as Dada Joe Remix, with possible extradition to the United States of America (U.S.A).

Sources said he was “scooped up Rambo-style,” over his alleged involvement in fraudulent financial activities.

Even though people have known him as a big player in the oil and gas business, rumors have it that he might have been involved in shady activities behind the scenes.

Panic has reportedly gripped Accra’s elite social circles since the news broke.

Some prominent figures allegedly involved in cryptocurrency, forex trading, and high-end real estate have also allegedly gone into hiding.

Dada Joe Remix could stand trial and face significant legal consequences if convicted.

Official details regarding his arrest and the nature of the charges are yet to be released.

It will be recalled that in 2022, the Nigerian social media influencer, Ramon Abbas, who called himself Ray Hushpuppi and flaunted a lavish lifestyle supported by laundering millions of dollars was sentenced in Los Angeles to more than 11 years in federal prison.

Ramon Abbas, 40, was also ordered by a federal judge to pay $1.7m in restitution to two fraud victims, according to a statement from the United States Department of Justice.
