We are grateful but disappointed – Vida Adutwumwaa on Ja Rule’s project

Ghanaian entertainment pundit Vida Adutwumwaa says Ghanaians are grateful for rapper Ja Rule’s gesture in constructing a six-unit classroom block, but admits the project has left many disappointed.

“It’s not like we are ungrateful for his contribution. It is a good thing; it would have been okay if I constructed the building because of my status. But it is quite unfortunate it came from Ja Rule considering his status. I don’t think people are ungrateful,” she said during a discussion on United Showbiz shared on X on April 6, 2025.

She explained that the structure does not align with Ja Rule’s legendary status and achievements in the global creative industry.

“Looking at Ja Rule’s status and his contribution to the creative industry in America, one would imagine that he was going to construct an ultra-modern structure, so I understand the people who are criticising him.”

Vida also noted that the building lacked some basic modern features, including a ceiling, and said it was fair for people to compare it to comedian Michael Blackson’s school project, given that both men have attained similar levels of success.

“Ja Rule has achieved the same status as that of Michael Blackson. He is even a legend,” she added.

Interior Minister to strictly deport foreigners involved in galamsey

Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has made it clear that the NDC government is not focused on prosecuting foreign nationals involved in fraud and illegal mining in the country. Instead, he revealed that a new policy is being developed that will lead to the deportation of these individuals following their arrest.

During a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Mubarak emphasized the government’s priority to expel foreign nationals engaged in illegal mining, a practice that has severely damaged the country’s environment. He also made it known that individuals involved in fraudulent activities would face similar deportation measures.

This move comes after the recent deportation of 107 foreign nationals who were apprehended for engaging in illegal mining activities that harmed forest reserves and water bodies, as well as for fraud-related offenses. Mubarak explained that this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to reducing the involvement of foreign nationals, particularly from China, in illegal mining and fraud.

The Interior Minister further noted that the deportation initiative is part of a wider strategy to restore law and order across different sectors in the country. Additionally, he shared that discussions are ongoing with the Attorney-General to ensure proper legal guidance in the matter.

  • Claiming you got the information from intelligence is false – Dafeamekpor to Ntim Fordjour

Claiming you got the information from intelligence is false – Dafeamekpor to Ntim Fordjour

The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has refuted claims made by the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, that he received intelligence on the involvement of two aircraft in the smuggling of cocaine and cash into Ghana.

Dafeamekpor, in a sharp response to Fordjour’s allegations, categorically dismissed the claim that the Assin South MP obtained his information through intelligence channels, calling it “false.” According to Dafeamekpor, the details Fordjour cited regarding the two aircraft—AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B—are in the public domain and accessible to anyone upon request.

“Claiming you got the information from intelligence is false. That is a public document; you request and it will be handed. So, you got no intelligence,” Dafeamekpor asserted during a recent interview. His comments come as the opposition MP has continuously demanded an update from the government regarding the alleged smuggling activities.

Fordjour, who has raised concerns about the aircrafts’ connection to drug trafficking and money laundering, has been vocal about the government’s failure to address the issue in a transparent manner. He believes that the government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, is deliberately shielding key politicians from the revelations that could potentially damage the NDC’s image.

Despite this, Dafeamekpor emphasized that the government remains committed to investigating the allegations, and anyone found guilty of making false claims would be held accountable.

“The NDC government is not one to shy away from accountability. We will investigate and ensure that whoever is found guilty of spreading falsehoods to tarnish the image of the government will face the law,” Dafeamekpor added.

The ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged drug and cash smuggling has intensified tensions between the ruling NDC and the opposition, with both sides accusing each other of political manipulation and misinformation.

While Dafeamekpor assured that the government will thoroughly probe the matter, Fordjour remains firm in his stance, insisting that his request for information is based on his duty to uphold national interest and transparency.

The public remains keenly aware of how these political clashes will unfold, especially as the government promises to get to the root of the matter, regardless of the heated back-and-forth between the two sides.

  • UNODC supports investigation into alleged cocaine, money laundering case involving Ghanaian aircraft

UNODC supports investigation into alleged cocaine, money laundering case involving Ghanaian aircraft

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has expressed its support for the ongoing investigation into allegations involving two aircraft suspected of being used for transporting cocaine and cash through Ghana as a transit point for organized crime.

The claims, initially raised by Minority MPs in Ghana, have sparked national attention, leading to official probes into the matter.

Speaking to Joy News, Kodjo Attisso, the UNODC’s Regional Adviser for Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Financing of Terrorism, and Anti-Corruption, stated that the international body is closely monitoring the developments.

He emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation and the role of law enforcement in addressing the serious allegations.

“Any allegation of such a case should be properly investigated and prosecuted,” Attisso noted. “We do believe also in the work of law enforcement and judiciary. At this stage, we can just support and hope that they will come up with concrete results, but since it’s in the investigative stage, we cannot say much, but we are just following the case.”

The allegations were made by Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, who raised concerns about the possible involvement of two aircraft in drug trafficking and money laundering activities.

However, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, swiftly dismissed these allegations, accusing Fordjour of spreading disinformation intended to damage the government’s credibility.

Despite the dismissal, the UNODC has maintained its position, emphasizing that such allegations must be thoroughly investigated to ensure accountability. The support from the UNODC aligns with Ghana’s broader efforts to combat organized crime, with President John Mahama having previously declared a zero-tolerance policy towards such activities.

The investigation is still in its early stages, with National Security and other relevant agencies conducting inquiries. As Ghana continues to address the serious allegations, the UNODC’s involvement highlights the international dimension of the fight against organized crime and the commitment to global cooperation in combating drug trafficking and money laundering.

  • GLA advocates for educational trips, resource access to improve literacy

GLA advocates for educational trips, resource access to improve literacy

The Ghana Library Authority (GLA) has emphasized the importance of educational trips and improved access to resources in a bid to enhance literacy levels across the country.

Speaking at the International Children’s Day event in Accra, the Deputy Head of GLA, Richard Obeng Asante, raised concerns over the declining use of libraries in Ghana, urging the youth to take full advantage of the facilities available to them.

“We offer a wide range of facilities designed to help your child acquire valuable knowledge relevant to today’s society. We strongly encourage parents to either visit us in person or arrange an educational trip for their children,” Asante said.

He highlighted that such educational trips, which include visits to landmarks like the Kwame Nkrumah Museum, are not only insightful but also play a key role in enhancing children’s reading and overall learning experiences.

During the event, which also focused on improving literacy in the country, the Municipal Director of Education for Ayawaso West, Margaret Kaba, addressed the challenges faced by parents and educators in ensuring children have access to quality learning materials. She noted that while the task of sourcing the right books can often seem overwhelming, collaborative efforts can help overcome these challenges.

“We believe that with the support of individuals and organizations in society, we can provide our children with the resources they need to read and grow. After all, true freedom comes through the power of reading,” Kaba emphasized.

A student from the 37 Military Hospital Basic School, Asantewaa Nwolley, shared her personal experience with reading and its profound impact on her life. “Reading brings people together because it teaches us how to connect with others. It offers so much more, too — as they say, reading is like medicine for the brain. The more we read each day, the more our brains adapt and grow,” she said.

With these statements, the GLA, along with local educators, is urging society to come together and support children’s access to educational resources that will help them thrive in their learning journeys.

  • Minister demands swift action to end drug activities in Kumasi’s “Tinker Island”

Minister demands swift action to end drug activities in Kumasi’s “Tinker Island”

The Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, has directed the Ashanti Regional Police Command to act promptly against Tinker Island, a well-known drug den in Kumasi.

Tinker Island has long been a hotspot for illegal drug activity, drawing both dealers and users from various parts of the city.

The area has become infamous for its role in the distribution of illicit substances, contributing to a rising wave of drug-related violence and crime in the region.

Minister Mubarak, speaking during an engagement with local law enforcement, expressed concerns over the growing drug trade in the area, calling for immediate action.

Sources suggest that drug operations are openly carried out in the area, with dealers using the location as a central hub for trafficking.

The Minister voiced strong disapproval of previous failed efforts to clear the area, urging the police to completely eliminate drug operations from Tinker Island within the next six months.

He emphasized the importance of taking swift, decisive action to address the escalating drug abuse crisis in Kumasi, urging the police to prioritize the dismantling of the illegal network in Tinker Island.

  • Vida Adutwumwaa explains why King Paluta isn’t deserving of Artiste of the Year award

Vida Adutwumwaa explains why King Paluta isn’t deserving of Artiste of the Year award

Vida Adutwumwaa, the Entertainment pundit and PR head for Stonebwoy’s Burniton Music Group, has made it clear that King Paluta does not stand a chance of winning the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year.

Speaking on DJ Slim’s YouTube channel, Vida explained the key factors that determine eligibility for the prestigious award. She noted that an artist must have national appeal, released a successful single, EP, or album, and received a significant number of nominations.

She pointed out that Stonebwoy’s impressive eight nominations for the TGMA, with four coming from his hit album Up and Running, put him far ahead of any competition. “No one else in that category is anywhere close to that,” she remarked.

When discussing King Paluta, Vida Adutwumwaa was quick to highlight the artist’s lack of a major headliner event to his name, which she sees as crucial for proving an artist’s influence.

“MC Portfolio mentioned King Paluta’s involvement in shows in the UK, but we know the amount you charge determines whether you’ll be called back. King Paluta hasn’t even held a successful show in Ghana,” she pointed out. “Look at Stonebwoy’s La Palm show — it featured A-listers like Davido and Spice, and it was packed largely because of Stonebwoy’s influence.”

She went on to question the impact of King Paluta’s UK shows, arguing that since they were not organized by his team, it was difficult to gauge his true fanbase and appeal.

“Look at the other nominees in the Artiste of the Year category. Even Kweku Smoke, despite being young, was able to draw a crowd to his own show on a weekday. Joe Mettle also attracted large numbers, even with his event coinciding with Sarkodie’s show,” she said.

To her, proving one’s impact involves more than just participating in events; it’s about organizing and drawing crowds to one’s own shows.

“If you really want to show your influence, put together your own show and watch the fans line up. That’s when we’ll truly know the depth of your artistry,” she emphasized.

Concluding her statement, Vida Adutwumwaa firmly stated, “King Paluta simply doesn’t have the credentials to be considered for Artiste of the Year, especially with no major show of his own to showcase.”

It’s unfair to blame politicians for civil, public service failures – A Plus

Musician-turned-Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame A Plus, has called for a shift in perspective regarding the inefficiencies within Ghana’s public and civil service sectors.

In a recent interview with Adom FM, A Plus emphasized that the blame for the country’s systemic issues should not rest solely on the shoulders of politicians.

He pointed out that much of the dysfunction lies within the civil service, where many essential public services are handled.

“There should be a Ministry of Common Sense because a lot of things happening in this country simply do not make sense,” A Plus stated, calling for the establishment of a body that would address inefficiencies within government institutions. He explained that politicians are often unfairly blamed for problems within these sectors, even though they have little direct involvement in day-to-day operations like the passport office or the licensing office.

“People are quick to blame politicians, but the main problems are within the civil service and public service. Have you ever seen a politician working at the passport office or the licensing office? Yet, those are the places where the issues lie,” he lamented.

A Plus also pointed out that those who attempt to make changes in these institutions often face stiff resistance, which sometimes leads to their removal from office. He cited the example of Dr. George Dampare, who was forced out after attempting reforms within the police service, as a case of how difficult it is to drive meaningful change in public institutions.

Further discussing the issue, A Plus questioned the rationale behind the government’s handling of seized items. He referred to a troubling case involving the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) where over 1,000 containers were allegedly declared missing at the Tema Port. Some of these containers were later sold to private individuals.

“Look at the issue with ECG. The government imports certain items but cannot afford to pay duties to itself. As a result, the government seizes its own items and then sells them to private individuals. Where is the sense in that?” he asked.

A Plus’ comments highlight a growing concern about the management of public resources and the need for better governance in Ghana’s civil service.

Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has called for a shift in mindset after a young girl’s dance performance at her show sparked criticism online.

A viral video from April 3, 2025, shows a teenage girl energetically dancing to Wendy Shay’s new song Too Late. While some viewers admired her confidence, others condemned her dance moves and criticized Wendy Shay for performing the song in front of minors.

In response to the backlash, Wendy Shay defended the young dancer, urging the public to embrace positivity instead of tearing down young talents.

“Let us advance our mindset and see positivity in things like this,” she stated.

She described the girl as talented and full of potential, encouraging people to nurture such gifts rather than discourage them.

“I see a lot of negative comments under the post, and it is heartbreaking because what I see is a beautiful, talented, and confident young girl who could become a professional dancer or a musician if she is carefully guided,” Wendy Shay added.

Her statement has reignited discussions on talent development, societal perceptions, and the responsibility of artists in shaping youth culture.

  • From medicine to pleasure: The surprising origin of sexual vibrators

From medicine to pleasure: The surprising origin of sexual vibrators

Did you know that vibrators were originally invented as medical tools rather than pleasure devices?

Their history dates back to the late 19th century when British physician Joseph Mortimer Granville developed the first electromechanical vibrator—not for sexual pleasure, but as a labour-saving device for doctors treating a condition known as “female hysteria.”

In the Victorian era, hysteria was a widely diagnosed condition encompassing symptoms like anxiety, irritability, insomnia, and even sexual frustration.

Many doctors believed the best “cure” was pelvic massage, which is manually stimulating the clitoris to induce a “hysterical paroxysm”—which, in modern terms, means an orgasm.

However, performing this massage manually was time-consuming and exhausting for physicians, leading to the invention of mechanical aids.

Because of this, the physician patented a battery-powered vibrator in the 1880s called the “Granville’s Hammer,” designed to assist doctors in performing this treatment more efficiently. It was never intended for personal or sexual use.

However, early vibrators were bulky and mechanical, often steam-powered or hand-cranked before electricity became widely available.

As electrical appliances became common in the early 20th century, smaller and more portable vibrators emerged.

These devices started appearing in women’s magazines and catalogs, marketed discreetly as massaging tools for “relaxation” and “invigorating the body.”

By the 1920s and 30s, vibrators began appearing in early pornographic films, revealing their true purpose to the public.

Once this association became undeniable, manufacturers started distancing themselves from medical claims.

Vibrators disappeared from mainstream advertising for decades, re-emerging only in the 1960s and 70s during the sexual revolution.

Today, vibrators are openly marketed and celebrated, with cutting-edge designs featuring wireless connectivity, customizable settings, and even self-servicing technology.

Despite the speculation, Shatta Wale took a calm and measured approach in responding to the rumors. In a post on Twitter, he expressed his admiration for Black Sherif’s work and urged him not to be swayed by online chatter.

“I’ve never heard you say Shatta Wale this, Shatta Wale that, but as usual, those unemployed Ghanaians are trying to push an agenda,” Shatta Wale said, emphasizing that the speculation around the song was simply a product of negative social media influence.

He further dismissed the claims, stressing that he’s focused on his career and financial growth, rather than getting involved in unnecessary drama.

“I’m too bank-minded for nonsense… Just do your thing, my G !!!! SM4LYF,” Shatta added.

Shatta Wale’s calm and collected response has surprised many fans who expected a more fiery reaction, especially considering the previous tension between the two artists.

You don’t have to quetsion the shape of my body because you are shapeless – Mavis Asante to critics

Gospel musician Mavis Asante has fired back at critics who have questioned her body shape, particularly those speculating that she underwent a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery.

In a defiant Instagram video on April 4, 2025, Mavis unapologetically addressed the allegations, saying, “You don’t have to question the shape of my body because you are shapeless.”

She emphasized that her appearance is a reflection of how God created her, pointing out that she takes care of her body and owes no explanation to anyone.

“I owe no one that explanation, and this is how God created me. I have given birth to three children, and they are all the same. I haven’t done anything to my body, and I take good care of myself,” she stated.

Mavis also made it clear that just because some critics do not have the body they desire, it doesn’t mean every woman should fit the same mold.

“The fact that you are shapeless doesn’t mean every woman is shapeless,” she declared, putting the blame back on the critics who have been targeting her.

Her comments sparked mixed reactions across social media, with some applauding her confidence and others criticizing her for being too blunt, especially as a gospel artist. Despite the backlash, Mavis remains firm in her stance, insisting that her body is her own and that the judgment from others is unwarranted.

Parliament work is difficult, and the salary is so small – A Plus

Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central and entertainment personality, Kwame A Plus, has voiced his concerns over the heavy workload of MPs, stating that the job is demanding, yet the salary is not reflective of the effort they put in.

In an interview with Adom FM on April 3, 2025, A Plus revealed that after all deductions, his take-home salary as an MP is less than GH¢15,000.

This revelation drew attention, as A Plus contrasted his current earnings with his income prior to joining Parliament, explaining that in 2020, he earned far more in a single day than his current monthly salary.

“Parliament work is difficult, and the salary is so small. It’s not good at all. After all the deductions, you’d be left with about GH¢15,000. One of these days, I am going to make my bank statements public,” he said.

A Plus further shared that, in 2020, his daily earnings far surpassed what he now takes home as an MP, even including his savings.

“When I look at my turnover for 2020, it shows that I was making a lot of money. I was making more money in just 24 hours back then… and I’m even talking about my savings. The amount of money I was making in a day at that time is more than the salary I’m receiving now,” he added.

Despite his frustrations, A Plus praised the hard work and dedication of MPs, acknowledging that the job is far more challenging than he had previously perceived before entering Parliament.

“The MPs are doing very well. Before we joined Parliament, we used to see things differently,” he remarked.

However, A Plus’s comments have sparked significant backlash on social media. Some netizens have criticized him for being greedy, questioning why he ran for Parliament if he was already aware of the salaries MPs earn.

Others have raised concerns about his public complaints, given the position he holds and the privileges associated with it.

The debate over MPs’ salaries and the work involved has reignited conversations about the adequacy of compensation for elected officials in Ghana.

Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene has released a special tribute song to help raise funds for the burial of late Togolese music legend Omar B.

The tribute, a rendition of Omar B’s classic hit Awoo Mawugné, was inspired by Kuami Eugene’s admiration for the late artist’s talent and impact. He revealed that a friend introduced him to Omar B’s music, highlighting their shared ability to write, sing, and produce. However, upon further inquiry, Kuami Eugene learned that Omar B had passed away suddenly at the peak of his career, leaving behind a young family.

Determined to honor his legacy and support his family, Kuami Eugene decided to rework Awoo Mawugné, dedicating all proceeds from the release to covering expenses related to Omar B’s burial.

“After I got the translation of the song from some friends, I realized he had put together some powerful lyrics, so I decided to do a rendition in his honor,” he said.

Stressing that the project is purely out of love and respect, Kuami Eugene stated, “This is not for profit. I have no intention of exploiting this work. All revenues generated from this upload will go directly to Omar B’s family.”

The artist hopes the tribute will garner significant support, helping to raise enough funds to assist with burial costs and provide relief to Omar B’s loved ones.

Omar B, celebrated for his musical ingenuity, was a major influence in the Togolese music scene. His third album, Me, Myself and I, was released in 2019, but his promising career was cut short when he tragically passed away from a heart attack on February 20, 2020, at the age of 35.

Speaking on The Career Trail programme, which aired on JoyNews and Joy Learning TV, Yvonne recounted how her passion for entertainment began with rap music during her high school days. “I wanted to be a rapper. Back in school, I used to rap a lot. We had a group like the Fugees, and I was the Lauryn Hill of the group. I loved Lauryn Hill,” she shared.

Her love for entertainment was evident in how she eagerly participated in school events that allowed her to showcase her rap skills. However, fate had different plans when she met renowned Ghanaian filmmaker Abdul Salam. That encounter, she explained, became the turning point in her life.

“Life happens. Destiny happens. I found myself in the entertainment industry because it was meant to be. I didn’t even audition for a role. Abdul Salam saw me at Afrikiko, spoke to me, took my number, and invited me to the set. That’s how everything started for me,” she revealed.

That moment led to her breakthrough role in Princess Tyra, a film that propelled her to stardom and cemented her place in Ghana’s movie industry.

Reflecting on her journey, Yvonne acknowledged the challenges she faced, including balancing her studies at Central University while building her career. She also recalled a difficult moment on set with veteran actor Kofi Adjorlolo, who once expressed frustration over her forgetting her lines.

“There was one time I was filming with Kofi Adjorlolo, and he got angry that I was forgetting my lines. He stepped out and was furious, saying, ‘Change her, she can’t act. She is wasting our time,’” she recounted.

Rather than being discouraged, Yvonne saw it as a lesson that pushed her to improve. “I had to learn on the job. I had to believe in myself. I realized that acting is something that I should take seriously,” she said.

Though her initial dream of becoming a rapper did not materialize, Yvonne Nelson believes her success in the movie industry was preordained. She remains grateful for the path that led her to a thriving career in entertainment.

Romanian authorities investigate Jean-Claude Van Damme over trafficking allegations

Romanian authorities have launched an investigation into Hollywood action star Jean-Claude Van Damme over allegations that he knowingly engaged in sexual relations with women trafficked by a criminal group.

According to a report by Romanian news outlet Antena 3 CNN, a criminal complaint has been filed with the country’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT). The case is reportedly linked to an ongoing probe into human trafficking and the exploitation of minors that has been underway since 2020.

The 64-year-old Bloodsport actor is accused of receiving five Romanian women as a “gift” from a group of traffickers while attending an event in Cannes, France. Attorney Adrian Cuculis, who represents one of the alleged victims, claims the women, who were photo models in Romania, were in a vulnerable state and may have been exploited under conditions that fall within Romania’s human trafficking laws.

“A person who receives such benefits knows the situation of those involved,” Cuculis stated, adding that the case forms part of a broader investigation into organized crime and trafficking networks operating in Romania and beyond.

Authorities became aware of the allegations after a witness who attended the Cannes event reportedly shared details with prosecutors.

Given that the incident allegedly took place in France, Romania’s legal team may require authorization from France’s High Court of Cassation before summoning Van Damme and other suspects for questioning.

The Independent has reached out to Van Damme’s representatives and DIICOT for comment.

Meanwhile, legal experts suggest that if sufficient evidence is found, the case could lead to cross-border legal proceedings between Romania and France.

Van Damme, best known for his martial arts and action films such as Street Fighter and Double Impact, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.

  • Ghana, IMF begin 4th review mission amid economic reforms

Ghana, IMF begin 4th review mission amid economic reforms

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has commenced its fourth review mission in Ghana as part of the country’s Extended Credit Facility (ECF) program for 2023–2026.

According to the Finance Ministry, running from April 2 to April 15, the two-week mission will assess Ghana’s economic performance and progress on structural reforms under the IMF-backed program.

The review began with key discussions at the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana, focusing on Ghana’s fiscal performance in 2024.

Over the coming days, the IMF delegation will engage with senior government officials, Central Bank executives, and key stakeholders to assess critical economic indicators, including inflation control, monetary policy, and structural reforms.

The review will also evaluate Ghana’s progress in meeting IMF targets related to fiscal discipline, economic stabilization, and debt restructuring.

The outcome of this mission will determine whether Ghana qualifies for the next tranche of IMF financial support, essential for maintaining macroeconomic stability and investor confidence.

Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, highlighted key measures, including the passage of transformative tax amendment bills, significant reforms in public procurement, and other policies outlined in the 2025 Budget as proof of the administration’s commitment to building a resilient and dynamic economy.

Dr. Forson expressed confidence that, with macroeconomic indicators trending positively, Ghana’s economy could stabilize by May 2025. He also stressed the importance of concluding the review on schedule.

A previous IMF mission, led by StĂŠphane Roudet, visited Ghana from February 10-14 to engage government officials and assess macroeconomic developments. Following the visit, Roudet noted that discussions had begun on key policies that would shape the 2025 budget while also reviewing the government’s adherence to the IMF-supported economic framework.

“The mission team engaged the Ghanaian authorities on recent macroeconomic developments. It also started discussions on the policies that will underpin the 2025 budget. This dialogue is set to continue over the coming weeks.

“We also took stock of the authorities’ progress in meeting key commitments under the Fund-supported program. These will be formally assessed in the context of the fourth review of the Extended Credit Facility arrangement, which is expected to be undertaken in April 2025,” Roudet stated.

Additional meetings and technical discussions are planned over the next two weeks, culminating in a final statement from the IMF on April 15.

The Extended Credit Facility agreement, approved by the IMF Executive Board for Ghana, spans 36 months with a total allocation of $3 billion. The initiative aligns with the government’s Post COVID-19 Program for Economic Growth (PC-PEG), which aims to stabilize the economy, manage debt, and implement structural reforms to foster long-term resilience.

So far, Ghana has received approximately $1.9 billion from the IMF, with the most recent disbursement of about $360 million following the completion of the third review in December 2024. The outcome of the fourth review will determine the country’s eligibility for additional financial support under the program.

We are ready with results to prosecute culprits of vetting chaos – Emmanuel Bedzrah

Chair of the Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the disruptive chaos that marred the ministerial vetting process in Parliament on January 30, 2025, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, has assured that the committee is ready to announce its findings and take appropriate action against those responsible for the unrest.

Speaking in an interview on 3FM, monitored by GhanaWeb on Thursday, April 3, 2025, Bedzrah confirmed that the committee’s report is complete and will soon be presented to Parliament. He emphasized that the findings would not be concealed from the public.

“Our report is ready, and as soon as we return from recess, we will lay it before the House. We won’t hide it from the good people of Ghana, so they should wait patiently for it. Various degrees of sanctions will be meted out to anyone found guilty, including being expelled from the chamber,” Bedzrah stated.

The chaos in Parliament, which included physical altercations and heckling among lawmakers, left many shocked. Bedzrah expressed his disappointment, stressing that such behavior tarnishes the reputation of Parliament and erodes public trust in its ability to conduct itself with dignity and professionalism.

“Parliament is degenerating into a dishonorable House because such actions not only bring the chamber into disrepute but also wear down public confidence in the institution’s ability to conduct its affairs with integrity and professionalism,” he remarked.

Bedzrah also addressed allegations from the Minority Caucus, particularly claims made by Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin that the investigation was biased. He firmly denied these accusations, clarifying that the committee’s role was not to target or witch-hunt any MPs.

“Let me put on record that it was not part of our job to target or witch-hunt anyone. Our work was to hear from all parties involved and look for evidence of any Member of Parliament who may have flouted the rules of engagement. This is not a witch-hunt against our colleagues; that is democracy,” he explained.

The unrest, which erupted during the ministerial vetting for President Mahama’s appointees, prompted Speaker Alban Bagbin to set up a seven-member committee to investigate the cause of the chaos. Four Members of Parliament were suspended for two weeks following the incident.

Bedzrah’s comments highlight the committee’s commitment to bringing accountability to the situation and ensuring that such disruptions do not undermine the integrity of parliamentary processes in the future.

  • Ghana projects $1.01bn in petroleum receipts for 2025

Ghana projects $1.01bn in petroleum receipts for 2025

Ghana has projected petroleum receipts for the year 2025 to total US$1,011.36 million, according to the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy.

The budget estimates that the amount is derived from several key sources within the petroleum sector, including royalties, corporate income tax, and carried and participating interest.

For 2025, the breakdown of the total petroleum receipts includes US$191.52 million from royalties, US$495.92 million from carried and participating interest, US$319.70 million from corporate income tax, and US$4.22 million from surface rentals.

The Government of Ghana has also allocated a portion of the receipts to the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), with US$192.67 million set aside for equity financing costs and the corporation’s share of the net carried and participating interest.

After factoring in the receipts for GNPC, the benchmark revenue, which is the total petroleum receipts minus GNPC’s share, is projected at US$818.69 million.

Of this amount, 70%, or US$573.08 million, will be allocated to the Annual Budget Funding Amount (ABFA), while US$245.61 million will be directed towards the Ghana Petroleum Funds (GPFs).

The GPFs will be split between the Ghana Stabilisation Fund (US$171.93 million) and the Ghana Heritage Fund (US$73.68 million) in accordance with the Petroleum Revenue Management Act (PRMA), maintaining a 70%-30% distribution ratio.

Looking ahead, Ghana’s medium-term petroleum receipts are projected to grow, with estimates of US$1.16 billion in 2026, US$1.21 billion in 2027, and US$1.23 billion in 2028.

These projections are based on benchmark oil prices of US$78.98 per barrel in 2026, US$79.21 in 2027, and US$75.50 in 2028, alongside expected production volumes.

Petroleum revenue received in the second half of 2024 declined by 38.51%, from US$840.77million recorded in the first half of the same year to US$517.03 million.

Despite the decline, total annual petroleum revenue reached a record US$1.3 billion, marking Ghana’s second highest earnings since oil production began in 2011.

The report, covering the period up to December 31, 2024, attributed US$369million to five crude oil liftings from the Jubilee, TEN and Sankofa Gye Nyame fields between July and October.

Additional inflows included US$144million in corporate taxes from sector players, US$74,000 in Surface Rental fees from Planet One Oil and Gas Limited, and US$3.67million in accrued interest from the Petroleum Holding Fund, pushing total receipts past the half-billion-dollar mark.

Out of the US$454million allocated to the Ghana Petroleum Funds, the Ghana Heritage Fund (GHF), which safeguards wealth for future generations, received US$136.2million, while the Ghana Stabilisation Fund was allocated US$317.8million to help cushion the economy against oil price fluctuations.

Petroleum revenue remains a critical component of Ghana’s public finances, supporting infrastructure, social programmes and economic growth.

ECG not responsible for missing containers under Customs, GPHA – Ex-ECG MD

A former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has refuted claims that the power distributor should be blamed for the disappearance of over 1,300 containers, stressing that they were under the custody of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

“Containers that are in the custody of Customs and Ghana Ports and Harbours—what does that have to do with ECG? Did the containers go missing while in ECG’s care?” he questioned.

According to him, ECG had no role in managing the containers once they arrived at the port, and there are proper tracking systems in place to locate them.

“Even if a container is lost at sea, it can still be traced because it has a unique identification number. So did they track the numbers and fail to find them, or are they only relying on a physical count?” he asked.

He further clarified that during his tenure, the only container-related matter involving ECG was an auction conducted by Customs, which he had attempted to halt.

Describing the allegations as a “witch-hunt,” he emphasized that ECG should not be implicated in a matter that falls under the jurisdiction of Customs and GPHA.

His remarks come amid ongoing investigations into the missing containers, with authorities working to establish accountability.

Keche opens up about their early identity struggles in the music industry

Ghanaian music duo Keche has shared their journey of finding their identity in the music industry, revealing that their well-known name was not their first choice.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM with Dr. Pounds, the group disclosed that they went through multiple names before settling on “Keche,” a name that has now become a household brand.

“Keche wasn’t our original name. We started with the name ‘Afoforo,’ but it did not work. We then tried ‘Chop Bar,’ but it did not work for us. After that, we went on to ‘The One’ before settling on the name Keche,” they revealed.

They expressed gratitude to renowned sound engineer Kaywa and the late musician Castro, who played a role in helping them finalize their name and identity.

Beyond their name struggles, Keche also highlighted the crucial role the media plays in an artiste’s success, urging their colleagues to remain humble and appreciate media contributions.

“No one is a star without the media. If you believe you are greater than the media, that perspective is misguided. Without the media, you are essentially unknown, and without us, the media also lacks significance,” they emphasized.

According to Keche, maintaining a good relationship with the media is key to sustaining relevance in the industry, as neglecting it could be a costly mistake.

Prophesying someone’s death doesn’t make you powerful, apply wisdom! – Sonnie Badu slams doom sayers

Gospel musician and preacher Sonnie Badu has strongly criticized prophets who publicly predict people’s deaths, cautioning them against using fear as a display of power.

His remarks come in response to recent prophecies concerning the health of Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

In a social media post, Sonnie Badu condemned the trend of doomsday prophecies, stressing that true prophecy should be guided by wisdom and offer hope rather than fear.

“There is something called the word of wisdom, which simply means that whatever you see, you should speak with wisdom. Prophesying someone’s death does not make you powerful; rather, it makes you a prophet of doom,” he stated.

He urged prophets to be mindful of the emotional toll their words can have on families and called for greater maturity in delivering messages.

Addressing Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, Sonnie Badu wished her a speedy recovery, recognizing her dedication throughout the election period.

My first production as producer was stolen after editing – Yvonne Nelson recounts

Ghanaian actress and movie producer Yvonne Nelson has revealed how her first film production was stolen after editing, describing the incident as an act of sabotage.

Speaking on The Career Trail show on Joy News and Joy Learning TV, Yvonne shared that after being banned by the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), she ventured into film production to take control of her career.

However, she encountered a major setback when armed robbers raided the editor’s studio and stole all the storage drives containing her first production.

“The first production got stolen after editing. Armed robbers entered the editor’s studio and stole all his drives. We lost everything we had shot. I believe it was sabotage,” she recounted.

According to Yvonne, the theft felt deliberate, considering her past clashes with industry players.

“They knew Yvonne, we banned her, what is she doing again? She is producing, okay, we shall see. So, I felt that there was a lot of hate going on in the industry. Till date, I don’t know who did that, but it is obvious,” she said.

Despite this devastating loss, Yvonne refused to give up and decided to reshoot the entire movie at a significant cost. This marked the beginning of YN Productions, her own film production company.

“I just decided that I can do my own thing. I can produce my own movies. Why don’t I try? So, I registered a company around that time and I started producing my movies,” she explained.

She credited Kelvin Kobiri, now in ministry, for believing in her vision and funding her first few projects. “I met a gentleman named Kelvin Kobiri. He is into ministry now. He believed in me just like Abdul Salam believed in me. He funded my first two to three movies,” she added.

Through resilience and determination, Yvonne has gone on to produce 14 movies, including Kotoka and Heels and Sneakers. She also hinted at her upcoming project, Summer, which is set to be released soon.

Reflecting on her journey, she acknowledged the harsh realities of the industry. “For me, I have been through a lot as an actor and producer. I have seen the industry, I have tasted the hate, the greatness, and the goodness. It can be a toxic place. If you are not strong enough, I don’t think you would last,” she stated.

Minister calls for urgent action on GHS1.2bn zoomlion debt

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has called for swift intervention in addressing the government’s outstanding debt of GH¢1.2 billion owed to waste management service providers, particularly Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV on April 1, 2025, Ibrahim revealed that the debt, accumulated over the past two years, was inherited from the previous Akufo-Addo administration and continues to pose a significant challenge for the current government.

“I have discussed this issue with the Minister of Finance, and it has been confirmed that the state owes Zoomlion GH¢1.2 billion for waste management services that have not been paid for,” he stated.

He stressed the urgent need for a resolution, warning that failure to settle the debt could have severe consequences on sanitation across the country. According to him, private sector involvement in waste management is crucial, as the government lacks the necessary infrastructure to handle the growing waste crisis on its own.

“Zoomlion has made huge strides in building advanced waste management systems, but without them, we would be ill-equipped to manage Ghana’s waste problems. Their work in faecal waste management, in particular, has been indispensable,” Ibrahim noted.

Highlighting the potential risks, he warned of a possible nationwide sanitation crisis should Zoomlion halt operations due to financial constraints. He further urged the government to prioritize sanitation efforts, particularly in light of the recent cholera outbreak in coastal regions such as Cape Coast, Winneba, and Takoradi on October 24, 2023.

The minister also commended Zoomlion for its substantial investments in modern waste treatment and recycling facilities, which have played a critical role in addressing Ghana’s waste challenges. He recalled the negative environmental and health impacts of past waste disposal practices, particularly the direct dumping of faecal waste into the sea, a practice largely mitigated by Zoomlion’s liquid waste recycling plants.

“Zoomlion’s plants now process sewage into compost and charcoal, aligning with the ban on sea disposal introduced by former President John Dramani Mahama in 2016,” he explained.

Ibrahim reiterated his call for urgent action, emphasizing that ensuring timely payments to waste management firms is not just a financial obligation but a matter of national health and environmental safety.

  • Mahama is for all Ghanaians not only the NDC – Agya Koo

Mahama is for all Ghanaians not only the NDC – Agya Koo

Kumawood actor Agya Koo has voiced his surprise at the backlash he received from government sympathisers after calling for the government to fix a road in the Ashanti Region.

The actor, who is known for his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), came under fire on social media for speaking out during the administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Critics pointed out his silence during the tenure of the previous government.

However, Agya Koo has hit back, stressing that the leader of the country, irrespective of their political party, is responsible for the welfare of all Ghanaians. In a post on his X account on April 1, 2025, the actor expressed his surprise at the response from government supporters, stating that President John Dramani Mahama, while from the NDC, is the leader of all Ghanaians.

“It’s indeed surprising that some people don’t want us to criticise the government just because the president is from their party. Don’t forget that he is the leader of Ghana, not just the NDC party,” Agya Koo remarked.

The actor further noted that Ghanaians now have high expectations of the NDC government, partly because of the perceived underperformance of the previous administration under President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Bawumia.

“It’s interesting to note that some Ghanaians have high expectations from the NDC because they think Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia didn’t perform well,” he added.

Agya Koo’s comments underscore his belief that Mahama’s leadership should extend beyond party lines and that all Ghanaians, regardless of their political affiliation, should hold the government accountable.

King Paluta expressed disappointment that a fan who had previously supported him for Artiste of the Year (AOTY) had suddenly changed stance.

His tweet implied that some Twitter influencers were financially influenced to promote certain artistes over others.

I’ve seen one guy who was supporting me heavily. Even last week… Every time Paluta for AOTY. Yesterday, make I go see aa, he say I no dey deserve the award again. Every Twitter influencer on the payroll already?? Lol Ghana Music, wake up! (in Wendy Shay’s voice), King Paluta wrote in pigin.

  • Stonebwoy’s team denies stopping DJ Lord from playing Shatta Wale’s songs

Stonebwoy’s team denies stopping DJ Lord from playing Shatta Wale’s songs

The management of Stonebwoy has dismissed claims by popular disc jockey, DJ Lord, that they prevented him from playing Shatta Wale’s songs during the Guinness Accravaganza concert.

In a post on X on April 1, Stonebwoy’s manager, Chief Stylz, refuted the allegations, calling them fabricated. He questioned why DJ Lord would push the narrative that Stonebwoy’s team was behind the directive when he had already acknowledged that it was an event organizer who approached him.

“Just got off the phone with DJ Lord, and he admitted it was a lady from the organisers who told him that Stonebwoy’s team wouldn’t be happy if he played Wale’s songs. And just like that, you run with it? C’mon bro, think!” Chief Stylz wrote.

However, DJ Lord stood by his claims, insisting that his version of events was accurate. He maintained that the Guinness representative explicitly relayed that Stonebwoy’s team was not comfortable with a Shatta Wale back-to-back set.

“I have been faultless all my years in this industry, and I have no reason to fabricate stories. The Guinness representative explicitly relayed to us, verbatim from her phone, that ‘Stonebwoy’s team wasn’t comfortable with the Shatta Back-to-Back.’ I’m simply sharing what occurred,” DJ Lord stated.

Amid the ongoing dispute, an audio recording of a conversation between DJ Lord and Chief Stylz surfaced online. In the purported clip, Chief Stylz expressed disappointment over what he described as DJ Lord’s misrepresentation of the situation.

“Lord, what you are telling us right now isn’t what you wrote on social media… It’s like you have an agenda and you know what you are doing. If you were a good person, you wouldn’t have done what you did because we didn’t speak to any organiser,” Chief Stylz was heard saying.

Responding to the leaked audio, DJ Lord accused Stonebwoy’s team of recording the conversation without his consent and selectively editing it to fit a narrative.

“Recording without consent? Selective editing? That’s not how respectful communication works. I spoke openly in trust. Let’s not twist words to fit narratives,” he fired back.

As the controversy unfolds, the disagreement continues to spark debate among fans and industry players.

“Didn’t he realize state of roads when he was shouting ‘Break the 8’?” – Netizens slam Agya Koo

Renowned Kumawood actor Agya Koo has come under heavy criticism on social media following his recent appeal for road improvements.

In a video that went viral on April 1, 2025, Agya Koo, born Kofi Adu, urged authorities to leverage the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) to address safety concerns on the Akyem Adubease Road. While acknowledging that the road itself is in good condition, he pointed out that overgrown bushes and accumulated sand on the shoulders have significantly narrowed the path, endangering motorists.

However, his plea has sparked outrage among social media users, who accused him of selective advocacy. Many questioned why he remained silent on the issue when his preferred political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was in power, yet he is now vocal under a new administration.

“When he was shouting ‘Break the 8,’ he didn’t realize the state of this road? An idiot and more!” one user commented.

“Foolishness is becoming a norm in Ghana. Where was he the past eight solid years?” another remarked.

Others acknowledged the importance of fixing the road but criticized Agya Koo’s timing. “When his party was in power, we didn’t see any video of him, but now he’s turned into an activist. Well, the road needs to be done, though. Hopefully, with his influence, the right people will see it and have it fixed,” a user noted.

The backlash highlights growing public frustration over perceived political hypocrisy, as citizens continue to demand accountability regardless of party affiliations.

Ghanaian actress Priscilla Opoku Agyeman, popularly known as Ahoufe Patri, has revealed that the issue of sex-for-roles is not confined to the entertainment industry but exists across various sectors.

Speaking in an interview on Max TV, she recounted a personal experience that highlighted the prevalence of the practice.

“The issue of sex for roles is prevalent everywhere, not just in the movie industry. I remember when I was about 19 years old, I met a producer who was interested in what I had to offer, but he insisted on getting to know me in a more personal way,” she revealed.

At the time, she was in a committed relationship and refused to compromise her values. However, her decision angered the producer.

“I had a boyfriend whom I was deeply in love with, and I couldn’t imagine doing something like that with another man. The producer became angry,” she recalled.

Years later, after gaining fame as Ahoufe Patri, she encountered the same producer again. However, he failed to recognize her and even expressed admiration for her work.

“He didn’t even realize who I was and told me he was a big fan,” she recounted.
