President Akufo-Addo has urged the Christian Council and the religious community in the nation to come together in prayer for the well-being of the country.
The President also called upon the Council to pray for increased understanding among the people, emphasizing that not every elected leader should be labeled as corrupt.
In his view, such prayers are essential to provide hope to those who can recognize the integrity of their leaders.
President Akufo-Addo made this plea during a meeting with the new Chairman of the Christian Council, Right Rev. Dr. Hilliad Della Dogbe, and his delegation at the Jubilee House.
He expressed his disappointment with the negative perceptions of leadership, highlighting that some of them might have thrived in the private sector.
The President also reassured the public that there are anti-corruption institutions and agencies in place to hold the government accountable.
Right Rev. Dogbe, in response, pledged the Christian community’s readiness to pray for divine guidance and the protection of the nation.
Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the Founder and General Overseer of the United Denominations of Action Chapel Churches Worldwide, and Rev. Eastwood Anaba, President of Eastwood Anaba Ministries, have noted that the current state of the National Cathedral project leaves much to be desired with regards to quality and integrity.
The clergymen communicated this sentiment in their joint letter communicating their resignation from the Board of Trustees on October 12, 2023.
They announced the government’s failure to engage an independent accounting firm to conduct a thorough audit of all public funds contributed to the National Cathedral project.
In January 2023, as Trustees of the Board of Trustees, they submitted a draft Resolution to the said Board resolving that current activities, advancing the construction of Ghana’s National Cathedral, be deferred until the findings of an audit. This deferment included a cessation of activities by the Board of Trustees.
“In the spirit and cause of transparency and accountability to the Ghanaian people, the current Board of Trustees of The National Cathedral shall appoint an independent accounting firm to audit all public funds contributed to The National Cathedral. This appointment of an auditor shall take place before the deferment of the activities of the Board of Trustees,” the Resolution stated.
However, according to the clergymen, the Board failed to act on its request.
Government’s inaction, they said, would affect their conscience and faith should they remain adamant and support such an initiative.
It is their aim that the project be “built on a foundation of integrity, efficiency and quality while gamering and maintaining public trust and support.”
This statement indicates that the project currently lacks these virtues.
The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has urged the government to fulfill its ‘Year of Roads’ pledge by improving access to public schools in rural areas.
The government had designated 2020 as the ‘Year of Roads.’ TEWU emphasized that the challenges of reaching rural public schools, exacerbated by poor road conditions, could deter children from attending school.
Mr. Mark Dankyira Korankye, the General Secretary of TEWU, made this appeal during the 13th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of TEWU in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, highlighting the need for better link roads in the Upper West and Upper East Regions.
The conference revolved around the theme “Fostering partnership for equitable education delivery; role of TEWU.”
He said “Even as we travelled along the routes from Wa to Bolgatanga and could not find public schools in these areas, we also noticed that the roads are so unmotorable.
“So even if children would want to access the next education facility which is miles away from where they are living, they still would have to encounter bad roads.
“We want to call on our government to make every effort to live by its mantra that said the years of roads in 2020 and 2021 which is past and yet a number of roads are yet to be fixed.
“We are calling on government to live up to its mantra and fix these roads, so that even if the public schools cannot be close by, at least means of transportation will be easy for people to commute from their places of residence to the nearby public institution, thereby closing that infrastructure gap,” he said.
Regarding equitable education delivery, the General Secretary noted that gender disparity remained a significant factor affecting education equity in Ghana, spanning from the basic to the tertiary levels.
At the KG level, you probably find equal boys and girls in the classroom, but as you progress, you find that the number of girls keeps dropping until you get to the University where you see a wide gap between the boys and the girls.
“This again cannot cause us to attain equitable education delivery in our country. Education is a right, and we think that government and all the stakeholders must make every effort in ensuring that every child is given unhindered right to attaining quality education to whatever level they desire,” Mr Korankye said.
He expressed concern over the unequal allocation of educational resources and highlighted instances where some public institutions had significantly fewer teaching staff compared to others with more educators.
This, he emphasized, contradicted the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to achieve inclusive and equitable education while promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Founder and General Overseer of United Denominations of Action Chapel Churches Worldwide, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, and President of Eastwood Anaba Ministries, Rev. Eastwood Anaba, have officially resigned from their positions on the Board of Trustees responsible for overseeing the construction of the National Cathedral.
In a joint statement issued by Archbishop Duncan-Williams and Rev. Anaba, they explained that their decision to step down was prompted by the government’s failure to engage an independent accounting firm to conduct a thorough audit of all public funds contributed to the National Cathedral project.
“Despite our prayers, best hopes and wishes, unfortunately, a needed audit to help restore public confidence and trust in this consequential project has not been enacted to the best of our knowledge.
Since January 2023, we awaited news, to no avail, regarding the finding of the audit,” the resignation letter noted.
As such, the men of God noted that as “a matter of conscience and faith,” they hereby resign from the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral.
According to them, they design to resign in no way impugns the vision or intent of the National Cathedral.
However, they want the project to be “built on a foundation of integrity, efficiency and quality while gamering and maintaining public trust and support.”
This statement indicates that the project currently lacks these virtues.
“We truly owe this to God and to country. We remain confident that one day your vision of a National Cathedral of Ghana that provides a “sacred space and infrastructure” for formal religious and other activities in the nation, such as state funerals, presidential inaugural services, and global gatherings that advance faith, peace, reconciliation, stability and a better world, while supporting tourism as a promising pillar of Ghana’s economy, will be realised in our lifetime.
“We believe that you will always stand as the visionary and the architect of this vision and trust that “a dream deferred is not a dream denied,” the letter added.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has refuted claims that its officers used sachet water to extinguish a fire outbreak that gutted parts of the Dansoman Branch of ADB in Accra on Monday, October 9.
This comes in response to a video on social media that has gone viral and suggests the use of sachet water to douse the flames.
In a statement, the Fire Service noted that the video has been “misconstrued and falsely interpreted”.
According to the Service, this false story has been bought by many despite the presence of two fire tenders (pumps) with enough water at the fire scene.
“We categorically state that this claim is untrue, false, and malicious in nature, just to tarnish the hard-worn reputation of the Service,” the statement added.
The Service explained that its firefighters from the Dansoman and Circle Fire Stations were promptly dispatched at 2:26 p.m. to confine the blaze in the power switch room at the affected bank.
The firefighters succeeded in preventing the fire from spreading into the main banking hall without recording any casualties.
The crew, after battling and subduing the fierce fire, was given a bag of sachet water by the staff of ADB to quench their thirst, the Service noted.
“The firefighters only drank the sachet water after the intense firefighting and did not use the sachet water to extinguish the said fire as was portrayed by the false and malicious commentary in the video.
“We would like to add that one cannot use sachets of water or buckets of water to douse such fierce fire, neither did we at any point in time during the course of the firefighting ran out of water supply,” the statement added.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service, its dedicated firefighters utilized their professional skills and equipment to combat the said fire effectively without compromising on international standards and protocols of fire management.
Consequently, the Service has entreated the public to desist from circulating such misreport age “as they not only undermine the credibility of our organization but also jeopardize the public’s confidence in our ability to fulfill our primary mandate of saving lives and protecting properties.”
The Service stressed that it will hesitate to take legal action against those who engage in such activities, as they harm not only its reputation but also demoralize the firefighters who risk their lives to keep the citizens safe.
“The Service is therefore collaborating with the National Cyber Security Authority to identify and arrest such culprits to face the law for false publication.
“The Ghana National Fire Service remains dedicated to its mission and continues to be committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens. We appreciate the continued support of the public and trust that together, we can work towards a safer and more secure Ghana,” the statement concluded.
The MP has developed an effective distribution system to ensure that all 19 camps for displaced persons in his constituency regularly receive much-needed relief items without bottlenecks.
The MP’s office has secured a relief package comprising bags of rice, maize, sugar, cooking oil, canned fish, mosquito nets, detergents, tissues, mosquito repellents, sanitary towels, life jackets and tissues for onward distribution to all camps.
“The 10,000 displaced constituents remain dear to our hearts and shall not be abandoned. I shall be with you all the way — your welfare is my priority,” he said in a post.
The Volta River Authority (VRA) began releasing water from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams on September 15, 2023, in response to a consistent rise in the inflow pattern and water level of the Akosombo reservoir.
This action has resulted in extensive flooding in several regions, including South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, and more.
According to Mr Ablakwa, the Volta River Authority is yet to announce their non-negotiable plans for full compensation of all victims “of their unprecedented spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong dams.”
“This large-scale devastation of biblical proportion was totally avoidable if the VRA management had put in place the right safety precautions and adequate community engagement, particularly, as they were the only ones who knew the quantum of water to be discharged and the dire implications for life and property. That would have averted the unfolding catastrophe.
I sincerely hope we shall not be blamed when we begin series of legitimate actions to demand justice for VRA’s displaced victims and to end VRA’s continuous costly dereliction.”
The decision to release water from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams by the Volta River Authority (VRA) was initiated on September 15, 2023, due to a sustained increase in the inflow pattern and water level of the Akosombo reservoir.
Consequently, this has led to widespread flooding in various regions, including South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, among others.
The Army Recruits Training School (ARTS) conducted an induction religious parade on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Shai Hills, marking the commencement of training for 830 recruits in the Basic Infantry Training Course 2-2023 (BITC 2-23).
The recruits, consisting of 223 females and 607 males, are embarking on their journey to become professional soldiers in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
During the ceremony, Lieutenant (Lt) Benjamin Otuo Acheampong, the Chaplain for ARTS, delivered a message centered around the theme “Delight in Discipline.”
He emphasized the importance of embracing values such as discipline, respect, obedience, and loyalty as the recruits pursue their military careers. Lt. Acheampong encouraged them to strive for excellence, remain focused, and seek the grace of God throughout their training at ARTS.
Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Micheal Opoku, the Director General Human Resource at General Headquarters, recognized the recruits’ decision to pursue a military career as a calling. ]
He highlighted the demanding nature of military service, requiring the highest level of sacrifice, professionalism, integrity, and dedication. Brig Gen Opoku explained that the 24-week training program would equip the recruits with essential skills and character necessary for their chosen path.
He stressed the need for determination, commitment, and dedication to successfully complete the training, urging the recruits to take their courses seriously and strive for the excellence that the institution is known for.
Residents of Nkwanta and Kpassa in the Nkwanta North and South Municipalities in the Oti Region have undertaken a community effort to repair potholes on sections of the Nkwanta-Kpassa segment of the Eastern Corridor road.
The initiative, led by the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly and supported by local drivers and commuters, aimed to make the road more accessible.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Bright Kwame Lenwah, supplied trucks and equipment to aid the repair process. The effort was considered essential since road construction work had not yet begun despite being awarded to a contractor.
Drivers and residents expressed their hope that the initiative would help reduce accidents on the deteriorating road and commended the communal spirit demonstrated by the community.
“We are pleading with the Government to listen to our plight as several calls on government have not been positive. We are pleading with the Regional Minister to find a lasting solution to the road issue because we are tired,” he said.
Mr. Aziz Bawa, the Chairperson of Nkwanta North GPRTU, stated that the poor condition of the road is adversely impacting their business. It is also contributing to increased vehicle maintenance costs, as well as a higher incidence of vehicle breakdowns.
The Ghana Health Service has reported that Ghana has achieved a 50 percent reduction in obstetric fistula cases within five years through the Ghana Obstetric Fistula Prevention and Management Plan (GOFPMSP).
The GOFPMSP 2017-2021 aimed to establish sustainable funding mechanisms to reduce obstetric fistula cases in Ghana by half by 2021 and eliminate the condition by 2030.
It sought to prevent obstetric fistula, enhance case identification and referral, provide treatment and care for affected women, and offer rehabilitation and reintegration services.
Professor Sebastian Eliason, Consultant for the strategic plan, made this announcement during the fourth Maternal, Child Health, and Nutrition (MCHN) Conference 2023 in Accra.
Obstetric fistula is a severe medical condition that occurs due to complications during childbirth, resulting in a hole between the rectum and vagina (recto-vaginal fistula) or between the bladder and vagina (vesico-vaginal fistula).
Although significant progress has been made, challenges remain, including a backlog of cases and inadequate treatment outreach, among other issues.
Professor Sebastian Eliason called for awareness and education about obstetric fistula, a mentorship program for training doctors in obstetric and gynecological surgeries, resource mobilization, and partnerships to effectively implement the new strategic plan.
The Assembly Member for the Sarki Kura Electoral Area in the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality, Adam Alhassan, is calling for the release of two suspects apprehended by the police in Ejura, Ashanti Region, in connection with an alleged foiled robbery.
He asserted that the police statement is filled with falsehoods and urged the Inspector General of Police to reevaluate the activities of the Police Investigative Department, which he believes is contributing to issues in the nation.
“These two are men of integrity and are not armed robbers,” Alhassan said.
A police officer, General Sergeant Ahmed Kamal, met his untimely death after armed robbers opened fire on him and his colleagues at Ejura in the Ashanti Region.
The robbers who were said to be preparing to rob a mobile money vendor on Monday, October 9, opened fire on the policemen who attempted to counter their move.
The Police in a press statement noted that two of its officers sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital where one was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Fortunately, the Police managed to capture two out of the three suspects, Alhaji Wahab Suleiman and Ibrahim Abubakari. The two in police custody also sustained gunshot wounds.
The third robber is currently on the run but the Police say they are on a manhunt for the suspect.
But according to Alhassan, “Alhaji in particular is an informant of the police in the municipality.”
“The police also said that two suspects were arrested with one on the run, which is a total fabrication of facts.
“The three suspects reported to the Ejura police voluntarily and were told to go to the Mampong police for their statements to be taken, and they were subsequently detained and later charged with conspiracy to commit murder and murder, and not robbery as was alleged in the police statement.
“We the family want to use this medium to tell the IGP to monitor and review the operations of the Police Investigative Department since their operations are causing a lot of problems in the police service because any Ghanaian that will meet them will mistake them for armed robbers and we urge the government to free our brothers,” he added.
After the shootout, the police managed to retrieve 2 SB shotguns, a pump-action gun, 6 live BB cartridges and a used BB cartridge.
Meanwhile, the Police have commiserated with the bereaved family of General Sergeant Ahmed Kamal.
Communities along the Oti River are facing an imminent threat to their businesses and daily activities due to the recent spillage of the Bagre Dam.
These communities, such as Dambai, Kete-Krachi, and some remote areas, are experiencing various degrees of destruction as a result of the dam’s spillage.
The rising waters of the Oti River have submerged homes and shops along the riverbanks, causing distress among the local residents.
A resident of Kete-Krachi, Kingsley Timoni, described the scale of destruction as massive and called for urgent assistance to mitigate potential consequences.
“Many houses have been destroyed and the owners have also left the place and all their farmlands and crops have been submerged in water. Others are sleeping under trees and sheds, and it is a serious situation. So we are in dire need of help.”
“We need food, shelter, and clothing and if you see how the people are living here, it is not good at all. I was told NADMO has been here, and I don’t know how swift help will come.”
Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton, has offered insight into why Inaki Williams has not yet scored for the Black Stars since his debut against Brazil in September 2022.
The Athletic Club forward has made ten appearances for Ghana without registering a goal.
Discussing the 29-year-old’s performance for the Black Stars in anticipation of the international friendly against the United States, Hughton emphasized that Inaki’s work rate and dedication cannot be questioned.
“What we can’t do is we can’t fault the work rate that he puts in. He is a player that is prepared to run behind. We just need to get the formulas right where we are able to provide him with the service and the service can come in two ways,” he said.
“It can come from the wide areas or it can come from runs over the top. And I think over the period of time, we haven’t been able to provide him with that type of service. Some of that is sporadic; we have games where we have had good possession in the middle of the park and look for runners.
“Probably as I said, we need to find the right formulas to create chances for him. And upon until this moment we haven’t been able to do that.”
Inaki Williams, who made the switch from representing Spain to Ghana at the age of 28 in June 2022, may have an opportunity to score his first goal for the Black Stars when they face the United States on Wednesday at 12:30 A.M.

Ghana abstained from voting on a resolution proposed by Russia concerning the conflict in Gaza in a significant session held at the United Nations Security Council on Monday evening.
The resolution, presented by Russia, called for a humanitarian ceasefire, the release of hostages, aid access, and the safe evacuation of civilians in the war-torn region.
Among the Council’s 15 members, the Russian-led draft garnered five votes in favor (China, Gabon, Mozambique, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates) and four against (France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States). Notably, Ghana was the sole African country to abstain, while Gabon and Mozambique voted in favor. Other abstentions came from Albania, Brazil, Ecuador, Malta, and Switzerland.
For a resolution to be adopted, it requires at least nine affirmative votes, with none of the five permanent members issuing a veto.
Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia expressed regret over the resolution’s failure, attributing it to what he termed the “selfish intention of the Western bloc.”
He emphasized the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and urged unified action.
However, US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield criticized the resolution for not addressing Hamas’ actions, arguing that it failed to condemn the group’s terrorist activities.
She underscored the need to hold Hamas accountable for civilian casualties and the dire situation in Gaza.
Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Observer of the Observer State of Palestine to the UN, implored the Security Council to adhere strictly to international law and emphasized the gravity of the situation for Palestinians.
Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan characterized the moment as pivotal for the Security Council, asserting that Hamas shares an ideology akin to the Nazis. He called on the Council to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization and hold it accountable for the situation in Gaza.
Additionally, he advocated for full support of Israel’s right to self-defense and the immediate release of all hostages.
Prempeh College has successfully advanced to the semi-finals of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
In their quarter-final match against Mawuli SHS and Aburi Presby SHS, the highly-regarded NSMQ favorites demonstrated a strong determination to secure this year’s coveted trophy.
Prempeh College commenced their journey on a strong note by taking the lead in the very first round, and they maintained their supremacy throughout the contest.
In the initial round, the ‘Sofoline boys’ accumulated an impressive 25 points, leaving Mawuli and Aburi Presby trailing behind with 19 and 18 points, respectively.
Prempeh College remained vigilant, recognizing that in the NSMQ, the first round does not always predict the ultimate winner.
Demonstrating their consistency, the finalists from 2022 once again surged ahead, amassing an impressive 38 points while their competitors remained in the tens. Mawuli and Aburi Presby saw a decrease of one and two points, respectively, from their scores in the first round.
The first challenge came in the form of the “problem of the day,” where Prempeh College earned two points. Thankfully, their earlier success allowed them to maintain their lead.
During this phase, Mawuli showed determination to pick up more points in the final two rounds.
Nevertheless, Prempeh College retained their lead, concluding the fourth round with 50 points and adding another seven points in the fifth round to secure victory.
Mawuli SHS, while valiant, fell short with a total of 33 points, and Aburi Presby SHS finished with 30 points.
Despite their loss, both Mawuli SHS and Aburi Presby SHS have secured an automatic qualification for next year’s edition as seeded schools.
In the upcoming semi-final contest, Prempeh College is set to face their main rivals in the Ashanti Region, Opoku Ware School, and Pope John Seminary SHS, promising an exciting match.
Will the ‘Sofoline boys’ reaffirm their five-time champion status with unwavering dominance in the semi-final? Only time will tell.
The 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz is produced by Primetime Limited and sponsored by the Ghana Education Service in partnership with Goil PLC, with support from A.T, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, and Pepsodent.
A Road and Building Engineer, Abdulai Mahama, has suggested that the government should consider constructing irrigation dams downstream of the Akosombo Dam to regulate the potential havoc caused by its spillage.
He emphasized that these irrigation dams could effectively retain water whenever the Volta River Authority (VRA) needs to release water from the Akosombo Dam.
The VRA initiated the controlled spillage of water from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams on September 15, 2023, due to a sustained increase in the inflow pattern and water levels in the Akosombo reservoir.
As a result of this spillage, thousands of residents in various areas, including South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, and others, have seen their homes submerged.
Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Mahama emphasized the necessity of implementing strategic measures to better manage the extent of damage in the future.
“When this spillage comes to a closure, we may have to look at alternative ways of redesigning the spilling channels so that if there might be major irrigation dams that will be constructed under lower streams, we will be able to contain quite a significant amount of water that will be spilled.”
“So that we will have some lives and properties being saved when there is the need for us to do the spillage,” he stated.
The Western Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), working in conjunction with its Axim Sector Command, has apprehended 31 individuals on suspicion of being involved in prostitution and human trafficking in the vicinity of a notorious brothel named Bafana Bafana Resort, situated in the Ellembelle District and Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.
According to the GIS statement, this two-day intelligence-driven operation commenced with a raid on the aforementioned brothel and nearby drinking establishments and makeshift structures within the Essiama area, leading to the detention of individuals aged between 22 and 37 years.
The operation, which spanned several hours, resulted in the apprehension of 17 individuals, including the proprietor and manager of the establishment, a 62-year-old man named Mr. Kofi Bekoe.
Furthermore, 12 more individuals, along with two suspected accomplices involved in human trafficking, were taken into custody during subsequent mop-up operations conducted on Saturday evening and in the early hours of Sunday.
“In all, the over thirty hours (30hrs) of sustained operation saw to the arrest of twenty-eight (28) suspected prostitutes, including two (2) nursing mothers.
“The other suspects were the two (2) suspected Traffickers, Mr Ndubueze Okereke, 37yrs and his wife, Ifeoma Okereke, 35yrs, all Nigerians with the exception of Mr Kofo Bekoe, who is a Ghanaian and the host of a suspected Trafficking syndicate.”
“This particular operation was planned and successfully carried out with the support from the authorities of the above-mentioned assemblies, owing to the growing concerns of the nefarious activities, especially by some of the foreign nationals within the said communities, and the impunity with which the brothel operated,” the GIS stated.
According to the statement, investigations revealed that all the suspects had entered the country without the requisite passports or any other travel identification documents. Additionally, searches conducted on their persons and the premises uncovered packets of both used and unused condoms, particularly within the rooms.
Furthermore, the GIS noted that in a related development, Mr. Bekoe had previously been arrested several months ago and was granted bail to facilitate ongoing investigations related to harboring foreign nationals engaged in prostitution. This action is in violation of Act 29 of the Criminal Code of 1960, Aliens’ Registration Regulation 1974 (L.I. 856), Section 13 of the Immigration Service Act 2000 (ACT 573), and other relevant legislations in Ghana.
Currently, the suspects are in the custody of the Western Regional Command Headquarters for further investigations, legal proceedings, and subsequent repatriation to their home country.
“The Service is by this statement averting the minds of Landlords and property owners across the country to be mindful of the existence of the above-stated laws and their consequences by checking and confirming the immigration status of all would-be foreign tenants before renting out their properties to them,” the GIS added.
The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has acknowledged that it should have implemented a mandatory evacuation plan to relocate residents from flood-prone areas prior to the Akosombo Dam spillage.
Speaking during an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Deputy Director General of NADMO, Seji Saji Amedonu, explained that although residents were initially advised to voluntarily evacuate before the spillage, stronger measures could have been taken when this voluntary evacuation was not successful.
He mentioned that NADMO could have resorted to compulsory evacuation, but this proved to be a challenging task.
“When it gets to a point that some people do not want to move for some reason, then, we do the compulsory evacuation. Yes, we did not do compulsory evacuation.
“That is a difficult thing to do. Imagine moving this number of people by force. How are you going to get that done?
“What it means is that we needed to involve all the state security agencies to get that done.”
The Volta River Authority (VRA) has attributed the spillage to a “consistent rise in the inflow pattern and water level of the Akosombo Dam.”
As a result, thousands of residents in nine districts across the Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions have experienced losses of their homes and belongings due to the ongoing spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams.
Meanwhile, the majority of residents who have reported property losses find themselves without a home and are appealing to the government for assistance.
“Over a thousand houses and properties have been submerged already and lives are being threatened so we are calling on government to come to our aid. This is the time the people of Mepe, especially those in the Volta River basin are waiting for them, they should come to our aid,” a resident pleaded.
Former MP for Ayensuano, Samuel Ayeh-Paye, has called for the sacking of employees at the Volta River Authority (VRA) whose inactions have led to the devastation brought upon over a thousand citizens following the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.
In an interview on Peace FM, he noted that if the VRA had taken earlier steps, such as relocating communities currently affected by flooding, many individuals would not be in severe dismay.
According to him, the VRA has enough funds to have secured an area and set up tents to house individuals for short period until it completes its spillage.
“VRA has done something and I do not agree with them. I don’t think it is right for President Akufo-Addo to appoint a VRA CEO and then have to come tell the CEO that the money you generate from the Akosombo Dam – you don’t pay fuel, it is water, so take 0.05% and place somewhere so when you spill water, there are some companies who have modern tent and we rent areas, and take residents living around there because we are about to open the dam.
“When we were about open the dam, didn’t we know this is not the first time so the water will spread everywhere. VRA made it public that they would spill water and people should move but where should they move to. If VRA came to do what I suggested and the people refused to relocate, that is a different story but I don’t believe VRA made provision. Financially, VRA is good enough to take that decision,” he said.
Samuel Ayeh-Paye therefore noted that those found to have shirked their responsibilities must be dealt with. He told the committee set up by the president to probe the spillage to take a cue from the authorities in Libya who have held individuals whose inactions led to the death of thousands by flooding to book.
“In Libya, some people have been sentenced to death by firing squad because when their dam was getting full, they failed to spill the excess water and now over 3000 people have died. Prominent individuals are now in court. Now here in Ghana, who didn’t do his or her work well. Who did not provide relief items before the spillage. In Ghana, we can wait for the disaster to happen before we begin to help.
“The Committee should check if there is anyone in charge who didn’t do his or her work well. VRA cannot tell us they don’t have the means to rent a tent temporarily,” he stated.
The inter-ministerial committee setup by the government is being headed by Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.
Meanwhile, the Akosombo and Kpong hydro dams’ controlled spillage is anticipated to persist for a minimum of one week to prevent any risk of dam collapse. This controlled release of water from the dams began around a month ago, as reported by the Volta River Authority.
The resultant flooding has presented a significant humanitarian challenge in communities downstream, affecting regions in the Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra areas. To date, it has led to the displacement of at least 12,000 people.
Former deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, claims that the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, harbours immense resentment against the party’s 2024 flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
In a series of Twitter posts, Mr Anyidoho alleged Mr Nketiah’s abhors former President Mahama so much that he will do everything in his power to prevent him from claiming the highest position in the land once again.
According to Mr Anyidoho, he has evidence of his claim and dares the NDC Chair to refute his comments.
In a series of tweets, Anyidoho wrote, “Mosquito’s disguised deep hatred for John Mahama has destroyed the NDC. JM tried to oust Mosquito in 2014, and Mosquito has vowed to make sure JM never becomes president again. I heard Mosquito myself vow to ensure JM never becomes president again, and I dare him to challenge me.”

The Volta River Authority’s (VRA) Health Service, under the leadership of its Medical Director, Dr. Omari-Yeboah, has taken measures to provide medical assistance and medications for the flood victims resulting from the Akosombo dam spillage.
When discussing the medical interventions that have been established to assist the affected communities, Dr. Omari-Yeboah emphasized their close collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

They are in the process of deploying medical staff to the affected areas, including doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals.
In addition to their efforts, the GHS has dispatched personnel from other regions of the country to bolster the work of the medical teams already on the ground.
“We are providing medical, sanitary, lab and pharmacy services at no cost to the citizens”.
Dr. Yeboah also stated that his organization is providing medicines to further bolster the relief effort in addition to the additional doctors and nurses deployed.
“As part of the combined efforts, we have also supplied medicines to the Ghana Health Services to help in the relief effort,” he said.
These medical relief provisions encompass a range of items, including anti-venom serums, pain relievers, antibiotics, hand sanitizers, mosquito repellents, gloves, cannulas, deworming medications, and anti-fungal topical creams.
Additionally, the VRA Health Service has distributed drugs designed to address specific illnesses like cholera, enteric fever, dysentery, worm infestations, skin infections, snakebites, malaria, and respiratory diseases.
Dr. Omari-Yeboah expressed his sympathy for the afflicted victims and provided assurance that the VRA is committed to providing assistance and support to them.
“We are in this together. It is our sworn duty to serve and we shall serve our community. We will leave no stone unturned in providing the medical support needed”.
Dr. Omari-Yeboah provided reassurance to the victims, emphasizing that the distribution of drugs and medical equipment is just the beginning of the VRA’s Evacuation Plan. He stated that all affected districts will continue to receive a steady supply of crucial medical supplies and medications.
Dr Omari-Yeboah said, “As an Obstetrician and Gynecologist by training, the women and children are especially of great concern to me, so anything I can do in my power to ensure their health and well-being will be done, as my Chief Executive said, no one will be left behind.”
Dr. Yeboah gave his assurance that the VRA Health Services team will remain committed to offering ongoing support to the community, extending well beyond the conclusion of the controlled spill of the Akosombo dam.
He reiterated that his team stands ready with staff, ambulances, and other medical resources at all times, ready to augment the efforts of the Ghana Health Service.
As part of its comprehensive support system for the affected communities, VRA continues to provide essential relief items, including substantial supplies of canned foods, foodstuffs, toiletries, potable drinking water, and fresh water tankers on a daily basis.
Safe havens have been established on elevated ground, and daily evacuation efforts are ongoing, with special attention being given to the well-being of women, children, the elderly, and the sick to minimize their exposure to diseases and hardships.
Deputy Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Seji Saji, has made a plea to the general public to offer assistance to the individuals impacted by the Akosombo Dam spillage.
He emphasized that while the government, through NADMO, has been diligently addressing the immediate needs of those displaced by the floods by providing food and shelter, they are currently facing resource constraints and would greatly benefit from any support available.
He pointed out that the crisis stemming from the flooding is an ongoing situation, leading to a continual increase in the population affected by the dam spillage. This, in turn, is placing additional strain on NADMO’s resources and capacity.
Speaking on JoyFM, Mr Seji Saji said, “It is an unfolding situation. When this thing started, we started with 2,000, then 3,000, now we’re at 26,000. We’re having items brought in every day. We are operating from the North Tongu district assembly; we’re using this place as our centre to try and address the challenges across, though we have our staff and team in each of the districts.
“So we have quite a lot of items here, water and all that. So I don’t think that we will ever have enough because the situation is unfolding. There are also individuals that I know that are already also helping people in the community.
“The very first day I arrived in Mepe, I met a gentleman with a pickup or so who had cooked food and was distributing. So it is a situation that calls for all hands on deck and the support of everyone. Government is doing its bit by providing a lot of items that we have here.”
He urged the public to contribute food items such as rice, maize, gari, canned fish, oil, and other essential staples. Additionally, non-food items like mattresses, used clothing, mosquito coils, nets, blankets, and similar supplies would be highly appreciated.
Government has provided a commitment to adhere to budgeted expenditures, even though 2024 is an election year.
This assurance was given by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, during a meeting held in London with holders of Ghana’s international bonds.
He affirmed that despite the upcoming election year, the government would adhere to the budget outlined in the International Monetary Fund (IMF)-supported plan, which is set to be presented to Parliament next month.
After implementing the Post-COVID-19 Programme for Economic Growth (PC-PEG)-supported IMF program for four months, Ghana’s economy is beginning to display signs of stability.
In the first half of the year, the gross domestic product (GDP) growth has averaged 3.1 percent. Inflation, which had reached a 22-year high of 54.1 percent in December 2022, has declined to a 12-month low of 38.1 percent in September.
On the fiscal front, the primary balance on a commitment basis for the first half of the year showed a surplus of approximately GH¢2 billion, surpassing the targeted deficit of GH¢4 billion.
The Gross International Reserves (GIR) also reached $2.1 billion, which is equivalent to 1.0-month import cover. This is an improvement from the $1.5 billion (0.6 months of import cover) recorded at the end of December 2022, and it has contributed to the stabilization of the cedi.
As Ghana approaches another election year, concerns have arisen within the investor community about maintaining this growth trajectory, given the historical overspending associated with election years, leading to substantial budget deficits.
Many are apprehensive that the progress achieved under the three-year Extended Credit Facility with the IMF could be undermined during an election year. Nonetheless, Mr. Ofori-Atta has provided assurance that the government will remain committed to the program and the 2024 budget.
“Ahead of the 2024 election year, let me assure you that we are committed to implementing the IMF supported PC-PEG as planned, and this is what our constituents expect from us,” he stated.
“This will help us further support the strong economic recovery,” the Finance Minister added.
Mr. Ofori-Atta emphasized that, in light of the significant impact of last year’s crisis, Ghanaians are now looking to the government for the delivery of macroeconomic stability, a rapid return to low inflation, and the sustained stabilization of the cedi’s value. They are not expecting an expansion of public spending.
“This is completely in line with the successful implementation of our IMF programme,” Mr Ofori-Atta stated.
The minister emphasized the government’s dedication to maintaining a comprehensive array of policy reforms, backed by the IMF. Their primary objective is to guarantee fiscal and debt sustainability, which will involve revising the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2018 (Act 982), and expediting the implementation of the Integrated Tax Administration System.
Mr. Ofori-Atta noted that the government is also directing its efforts towards financial sector reforms, with a focus on bolstering the capital reserves of commercial banks, enhancing the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG’s) inflation targeting framework, and rebuilding international reserves buffers.
“We are also working on social protection and structural reforms, including expanding the coverage and enhancing the benefits in real terms under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty Programme, the National Health Insurance Scheme and the School Feeding Programme,” he stated.
Retired Commissioner of Police (COP), George Alex Mensah, continues to assert his innocence in connection with the leaked audio recording.
In this recording, he and another senior officer were heard discussing a plot to remove the current Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
COP Mensah maintains that the entire conversation with former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bugri Naabu, was a private discussion that did not involve any criminal activity.
“Like me and you having a conversation privately in your room or my room, then you secretly record it, you bring it out and, you will not even bring the conversation that we had out; you edited the conversation.
“You doctored it and you brought it out. So I was not afraid of anything because I knew what actually took place and I did not say anything wrong in the tape.
“I was not planning a coup in the tape; neither was I planning to go and sell cocaine or steal. No! all what I said in the tape is the truth and it’s right and as I said at the Committee, if you give me the chance I will say it here, I will say it anywhere,” he told Joy News in an interview on Monday, October 15, 2023.
In the audio, which has now become the focal point of a parliamentary committee’s investigation, COP Mensah and two other police officers are alleged to have been mobilizing political backing for the removal of the IGP.
While advocating for COP Mensah as the ideal candidate to replace Dr. Dampare, these officers portrayed him as a staunch supporter and member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, indicating that he would assist the party in furthering its objectives of retaining power in the 2024 elections.
Moreover, they questioned Dr. Dampare’s competence and accused him of having affiliations with the opposition National Democratic Congress.
When questioned about the apparent partisan nature of his actions, COP Mensah explained that he made these assertions as part of a lobbying strategy.
“Unless somebody doesn’t want to speak the truth, there is no position in this country that people don’t lobby or people don’t hold people’s hands to go and see the appointing authority. So that was not news,” he stated.
He refuted the accusation of plotting the IGP’s removal emphasising that the power to do so did not lie with him or the people captured in the tape.
Former deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has alleged that the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, widely known as General Mosquito, is determined to thwart any chances of former President John Dramani Mahama returning to the presidency.
Mr Anyidoho expressed these claims on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He accused Asiedu Nketiah of holding grudges against Mahama, which, he believes, could be detrimental to the unity and aspirations of the party.
Mr Anyidoho further asserted that this discord originates from past allegations that, during his presidency, John Dramani Mahama made an attempt to oust Asiedu Nketiah from his role in 2014.
Following the failure of this attempt, Mr Nketiah has reportedly harbored intentions to impede Mahama’s presidential comeback ever since.

Additionally, Anyidoho voiced his own commitment to his former party and its principles, despite the ongoing alleged internal strife.
He tweeted, “John Mahama & Asiedu-Nketiah want to kick me out of the NDC, but I remain loyal to my Calling. The days of John Mahama & Asiedu-Nketiah shall soon pass, and we shall restore the NDC to its past glory. Aluta continua.”

Cecilia Adomah, the mother of the late Bennet Agyekum-Adoma, the owner of Kikibees Restaurant and Lounge, has shared details of the last interaction she had with her son before his tragic passing.
Bennet was discovered deceased, lying in a pool of blood, in a residence in Madina-Ogbojo on October 9. This occurred after he had returned from Amsterdam to Ghana.
According to Cecilia’s account, her son spent time with her in Amsterdam before departing for their home country. Before his departure, they shared an emotional hug and offered prayers together. He reassured her that he would return to Amsterdam and was subsequently picked up by a friend.
Cecilia disclosed this while vehemently denying assertions that her son was a drug addict and that he had taken his own life.
“My son Ben that I know isn’t a drug addict. He isn’t a drug addict. Jesus Christ! Ben came to visit me and spent a week here in Amsterdam, before leaving for Ghana, he even hugged me, kissed me and we prayed together. He left here around 1 am. He said he would be back soon and he left. It was his friend who even came to pick him up.
“When I heard reports that my son committed suicide, I was intrigued. This information is false. Why would Ben even want to kill himself? He is a responsible man with a wife and kids. He is hardworking and successful. So, what is he looking for in life that he doesn’t have? I was shocked. My son is very sober, loves humans, and trusts easily; maybe that’s what landed us in this situation.
Cecilia shared details of how news of her son’s death got to her.
“I heard it when I was in church on Sunday, a lady called me on the phone to tell me about it. Exactly around that time, my daughter’s friends were around so they quickly snatched the phone from me.
“Other people came to tell me that Ben is injured so he is receiving treatment. At that moment, I was taken to home but I kept asking why about four people would tell me about a mere injury. So I asked them to tell me exactly what happened. So, the family came home and they told me that he was dead,” she added.
Mam Yandey Joof, the girlfriend of the late Bennet Agyekum-Adoma, the owner of Kikibees Restaurant and Lounge, has been remanded in police custody by a District Court in Madina.
Her plea has been deferred, with Justice Susana Nyakotey presiding over the case.
Muniru Kassim, the legal representative for the accused, Mam Yandey Joof, maintained that she played no role in the death of the Kikibees CEO and stated that the truth would emerge at the appropriate time.
Previously, a police report indicated that before his tragic demise, Ben had consumed certain substances, which led to him becoming highly agitated. This resulted in an altercation and property damage when he arrived at his girlfriend’s residence.
The reports further revealed that at one point, Ben’s girlfriend had to escape from the scene as he had threatened to harm her.
According to the police, Ben was discovered on the floor with marks on his arms and blood flowing from his nose, suggesting that he may have collapsed and fallen.

Retired Commissioner of Police, COP George Alex Mensah, has asserted that the Ghana Police Service lacks the authority to penalize him for his alleged involvement in a plot to have the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, removed from office.
He contends that even if the committee investigating the matter finds him guilty of any wrongdoing, it is the responsibility of the state to prosecute him and establish its case against him.
COP George Alex Mensah, who had been on leave prior to his official retirement on September 18, 2023, after 31 years of service, was recorded in a leaked conversation expressing criticism of Dr. Dampare’s administration. He also suggested that he would not support the governing party if Dr. Dampare remained in office until the 2024 elections. He was accompanied by another senior police officer, Superintendent George Asare, and former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bugri Naabu, who admitted to recording the conversation.
COP Alex Mensah (Retired) has already appeared before a parliamentary committee tasked with investigating the contents of the leaked tape. During his testimony, he made further critical comments about the IGP, characterizing him as the worst IGP the service has ever had. The parliamentary committee is yet to submit its report after conducting hearings involving the concerned parties, including the IGP.
Despite the ongoing investigation, the retired COP Alex Mensah appears unruffled by the incident and has stated that even his colleague, Superintendent George Asare, who is still in the service, has not committed any offense warranting punishment.
“The committee is doing a perfect job because they are looking for the truth and they’ve gotten all the truth to assist them to come out with their report.
“Unfortunately for them, I am no more a police man. But what has he [Supt. George Asare] done? Because he went to see a politician and spoke to him he should be charged? For what? If you go into the Police Service’s rules and regulations, it says that, if you do anything that will bring about political uproar, then you can be charged. And the one who brought the uproar is the one who brought this [The recording] into the media. There was nothing like a plot” he reiterated.
“The Police Service cannot do anything to me. If the committee comes out that I have committed a crime, then the state can do something to me. I have nothing to do with the Police Service as I speak.
Asked whether he retired with all his benefits he responded “Yes, nothing can be in jeopardy. If there’s a crime, even that one has to go to court for the court to prove that indeed I have committed a crime.”
The prospective New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Bekwai Constituency in the Ashanti Region has asserted that the entire matter has been blown out of proportion. He firmly maintains that there was no genuine plot to oust the IGP, contrary to the suggestions made.
He emphasized that the recorded conversation was of a private nature, and the primary concern should be the individual responsible for leaking the conversation, rather than focusing on the participants who were engaged in routine discussions.
The former police commissioner has previously informed the parliamentary committee that the tape was tampered with to serve a particular malicious agenda.
“I did not say anything wrong in the tape. I was not planning a coup, neither was I planning to go and sell cocaine or steal. All that I said on the tape is the truth. And as I said before the committee, if you give me the chance, I will say it here and say it anywhere else.”
What offence have we committed? Having a conversation with somebody privately is it an offence? Then we should look for the person who recorded and brought it out. He’s the one who has caused the problem. He’s the person who should be charged. People are just misinterpreting everything. Private conversations are private conversations and if you illegally record them and take it to court it will be thrown away.”
Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has introduced the Labour (Amendment) Bill, 2023, aimed at modifying Section 57(1) of the Labour Act.
The proposed changes seek to extend the maternity leave period from 12 weeks to 16 weeks, effectively stretching it from three months to four months.
Additionally, the bill provides for an extra two weeks in cases of caesarean deliveries, stillbirths, or multiple births, and addresses related matters.
The Madina legislator also intends to amend Section 20 of the Labour Act to introduce paternity leave, with a minimum duration of seven days and a maximum period of four weeks. This amendment also allows for an additional two weeks in instances of caesarean deliveries, stillbirths, or the birth of multiple children by the spouse.
Francis-Xavier Sosu argues that both maternity and paternity leave are essential to ensure that both parents have the opportunity to welcome and bond with the newest member of the family. While maternity leave is mandatory in Ghana, paternity leave often goes overlooked.
“The father of the child at times is locked out of this exciting and important moment and the only chance he has is after working hours when he is already tired and exhausted.
“As such, the exclusion and silence of the law in regards to paternity leave are unfair and a clear indication of discrimination against men considering that fathers would also like to have a chance to familiarize themselves with the changes a newborn brings to a home.”
On a global scale, numerous countries offer paid paternity leave, and these include Canada (5 weeks at 55% pay), Estonia (4.2 weeks at 100% pay), France (16 weeks at 100% pay), Iceland (26 weeks at 80% pay), Japan (one year at 67% pay for the first 180 days and 50% for the remainder), Lithuania (4.2 weeks at 77.58% pay), Norway (15 weeks at 100% pay or 19 weeks at 80% pay), Slovenia (22.9 weeks at 100% pay), Spain (16 weeks at 100% pay), and Sweden (34.2 weeks at 80% pay), among others.
Moreover, recent studies conducted by McKinsey-McGrill University in 2020 on paternity leave demonstrate that men who took paternity leave overwhelmingly viewed it as a positive experience. A striking 100% expressed satisfaction with their decision to take paternity leave and indicated they would do so again. Furthermore, 90% reported an improvement in their relationships with their partners. While 20% acknowledged concerns about potential career setbacks, they believed that the benefits far outweighed those worries. Notably, one in four fathers wished for longer paid paternity leave.
Mr. Sosu also highlighted that the extension of maternity leave aims to ensure sufficient time for breastfeeding by lactating mothers. This move was prompted by the absence of specific provisions in the Ghana Labour Law addressing or providing support for women facing the loss of a pregnancy or infant. Consequently, there is a need for legal measures or a legislative framework that offers compassionate support to women during times of vulnerability.
The introduction of the Labour (Amendment) Bill, 2023, marks the fourteenth Private Member’s Bill initiated by the Madina MP. These bills encompass a wide range of issues, including substituting life imprisonment for the death penalty, proscribing witchcraft accusations, eliminating taxes on sanitary pads, reviewing legal education and redefining the functions of the General Legal Council (GLC), ensuring a minimum of five percent employment for persons with disabilities (PWDs), guaranteeing compensation for victims of unlawful arrest, incarceration, and detention, and providing NHIS coverage for mental health patients and victims of sexual violation, among others.
Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, last Friday was officially enstooled as the Development Chief of the Penyi Traditional area in the Ketu North Municipality.
During a vibrant gathering of local chiefs and community members in Penyi, Mr. Mahama was duly enstooled and introduced with the honorific title ‘Togbi Dunenyo,’ which designates him as the Nugoryifia of the Penyi Traditional Area.
Mr. Mahama, who served as the special guest of honor at the recently concluded Penyi Nugoryiza festival, was welcomed into the community with an enthusiastic crowd and traditional drumming and dancing.
The paramount chief of Penyi, Togbiga Dadzi V, expressed his gratitude to Mr. Mahama for accepting their invitation and lauded the NDC for their contributions to various development projects in the region. He also called for continued support from the NDC when they return to power.
Penyi Nugoryiza is an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of Penyi, which is one of the four traditional areas within the Ketu North Municipality in the Volta Region.
The Africa Movie Academy Awards, now in its 19th year, held a media soirée on Sunday at the Ibis Style Hotel in Accra, One Airport Square.
Actor, Kofi Adjorlolo, in attendance, voiced his dismay at Ghana’s failure to secure a single nomination for this year’s event.
He expressed his disappointment, stating that Ghana’s inability to secure a nomination at the prestigious continental film awards ceremony was both shameful and indicative of the declining standards of the film industry in the country.
“I’m not happy. It doesn’t make me happy. And actually, I should be ashamed. Apparently, I am not a filmmaker, I am not a producer, and this is so shameful. We have done films in this country since last year, most of the films are not up to standard. It clearly shows and this is it because if they were up to standard, AMAA will definitely nominate one or two films from Ghana,” he said.
He mentioned that the present generation of filmmakers lacks the necessary skills and resources to create outstanding cinematic productions, leading to their inability to secure a place in the awards ceremony.
“Like I said, these young producers, they don’t have money to even produce quality movies. Movie making is money, they don’t have it so we don’t have any good movie and it’s true. If they’re telling us then it’s a shame,” he said.
The Ghana Hotels Association has reported that the hospitality industry in the Volta and Eastern Regions has been severely impacted due to the ongoing spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams.
The Volta River Authority (VRA) initiated the spillage of excess water from the Akosombo and Kpong hydro dams on September 15, 2023.
This spillage has necessitated the evacuation of numerous communities in the north, south, and Central Tongu districts of the Volta Region, leaving residents with no choice but to salvage what remains of their belongings.
While the current inflow into the reservoir stands at 400,000 cubic feet of water per second, the VRA has indicated that they are releasing approximately 183,000 cubic feet of water, with no definite end date for the spilling exercise.
In the meantime, thousands of individuals residing along the Lower Volta Basin have been forced to relocate, resulting in property losses estimated at millions of cedis.
Addressing the media, Dr. Edward Ackah-Nyamike Jnr., President of the association, mentioned that hotels and recreational facilities situated along the lake have experienced significant damage.
“The impact has been mainly on the operational areas, the outdoor sitting areas have generally been affected. It has also affected patronage of these hotels for obvious reasons. So it’s obvious these hotels at the river banks will have a lot of challenges from the spillage”, he stressed.
He informed the media that the association intends to instruct its members on leveraging insurance programs during its forthcoming National Executive Council Meeting scheduled for October 18, 2023.
“We as an industry must start looking at insuring our premises against some these disasters that will befall us. We will be attending our National Executive Council Meeting this Wednesday to come up with ways to support our members who unfortunately found themselves in this situation”.
Meanwhile the association has asked its members affected by the spillage to avail themselves to the authorities for the necessary assistance and support in order to bounce back.
The Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, has issued a legal threat against the Volta River Authority (VRA) due to their alleged failure to notify the affected residents about the Akosombo and Kpong Dam spillages.
In an interview on JoyNews’ The Probe on Sunday, he asserted that the local population was not adequately informed before the spillage occurred. Additionally, he refuted claims of having discussions with fellow Members of Parliament regarding the spillage.
“There was no warning or so from VRA even to spill the water. At the end of the day when they were in crisis, it was too late… I am encouraging our indigenes, especially the Volta region we need to sue the VRA,” he said.
Mr. Gakpey stated that the lawsuit would primarily focus on the harm inflicted on residents due to the absence of advance notice of the spillage and would also seek compensation for those affected.
He noted that the VRA informed them of the development “in the midst of the disaster.”
Thousands of residents in nine districts spanning the Volta, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions have suffered significant losses to their property and homes due to the continuous spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams.
The Volta River Authority explained that it is conducting this spillage due to a “consistent rise in the inflow pattern and water level of the Akosombo Dam.”
Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of NADMO, Seji Saji Amedonu, has stated that they are actively coordinating relief efforts to provide assistance to the affected residents.
“There are things that we need to give to the people. So have provided some food items and non-food items and the non-food items include – blankets, mattresses, mosquito nets, coils, buckets, etc. And food items – gari, sausage, maize, oil among others. We are trying to reach almost every one that has been affected,” he said.
Will Smith is now speaking out and sharing his thoughts about his seven-year separation from Jada Pinkett Smith, as well as her upcoming revealing memoir titled “Worthy.”
In a recent profile interview conducted by the New York Times, Jada candidly discusses numerous revelations featured in her forthcoming book, including her struggles with past suicidal thoughts, depression, her use of hallucinogens to explore her mental health issues, and the unique dynamics of her marriage with Will.
Her memoir is a deeply honest and unfiltered examination of the inner challenges she has faced. Smith expressed his sentiments to the New York Times via email, acknowledging that reading the book served as a powerful reminder of his wife’s incredible strength.
“When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in,” the Oscar-winning actor wrote. “You can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.”

In an intimate conversation with Today’s Hoda Kotb last week, the 52-year-old actress delved into her forthcoming memoir, discussing a multitude of eye-opening revelations from the book. Among these revelations was the revelation that Jada and Will have been living separately for the past seven years.
“Yes, it was not a divorce on paper, but it was a divorce,” Jada told Hoda.
The Girls Trip star disclosed that she and Will, 55, have been leading “completely separate lives” since 2016, even though they never officially divorced.
Through the years rumors swirled about the couple, but Jada said, “I can definitely understand why there would be misunderstandings, but none of it’s true.”
The separation started seven years ago, as confirmed by Jada during the interview. It has been a long-standing arrangement that the couple has managed to maintain discreetly, away from the public eye.
When asked why they chose to maintain this arrangement, Jada said, “I think just not being ready yet. Still trying to figure out between the two of us how to be in a partnership, and in regards to how do we present that to people, you know? And we hadn’t figured that out.”
“I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” Jada said, adding that she made a promise to herself and Will to never allow their marriage to result in a divorce. “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
Divorce, at least at the present time, is off the table. “We don’t want to,” Jada said. “We love our family. And we love each other. It’s more of a life partnership. Ten years from now, Hoda, who knows?”

Importing food products into Ghana is an expensive endeavor due to the numerous taxes and levies that add to the overall cost of these essential goods.
This list of charges is extensive, and when combined with regular hikes in utilities, significant fees imposed by Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), it’s evident that the food and beverage industry is under considerable financial pressure.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of approximately 20 taxes and levies that can be imposed on an average imported product, significantly driving up the expenses for consumers:
1. Import Duty – 20%
2. Import VAT – 15%
3. ECOWAS Levy – 0.50%
4. Network Charge – 0.40%
5. Network Charge VAT – 15%
6. Network Charge Covid-19 – 1%
7.Network Charge NHIL – 2.5%
8. Special Import Levy – 2%
9. Ghana Shippers Authority – 0.9%
10. Import NHIL – 2.5%
11. Withholding Tax on Import – 1%
12. GHS Disinfection Fee – Amount not specified
13. Ghana Export-Import Bank Levy – 0.75%
14. Ghana Education Trust (GET) Fund Import – 2.5%
15. Network Charge GET Fund Levy – 2.5%
16. Inspection Fee – 1%
17. African Union Import Levy – 0.2%
18. Covid-19 Health Recovery – 1%
19. FDA (Food and Drugs Authority) Fee – 0.5% and 0.8% of invoice value
20. Ghana Standards Authority Fee – Cumulative fee of $65.95 + FDA + GSA + Disinfection fee $30
The list of charges is extensive and, when coupled with quarterly increases in utility tariffs and substantial fees imposed by Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), the food and beverages sector is grappling with significant financial pressure.
Approximately 20 taxes and levies can be applied to an average imported product, significantly inflating the cost for consumers. This financial strain is particularly concerning because the food and beverages sector alone pays over 70% of its profit to the government in the form of taxes and levies.
This heavy financial burden not only impedes business growth but also affects employment levels and government revenue. To address these challenges, the government’s response is crucial in safeguarding the viability of Ghana’s food and beverage importers.
Acknowledging the need for improvements in the taxation and revenue sector, Ghana’s Medium-Term Revenue Strategy for 2024-2027 outlines plans to review and consolidate tariff lines that contribute to the high cost of doing business at the ports.
Additionally, indirect tax strategies are proposed as part of this medium-term revenue plan. One key strategy is to “Align excise duty rates such that similar products attract the same rates.”
This initiative aims to establish fairness and uniformity in the excise duty structure for food and beverages and similar products. By aligning these tax regulations, it can level the playing field for businesses and ensure that the taxation of essential goods remains both reasonable and consistent.
The government now has the responsibility to carefully consider the importers’ appeals and take steps towards implementing a more balanced taxation system. Such a system should support economic growth while also ensuring the affordability of crucial food products for consumers.
The latest season of Rick and Morty has been released, putting an end to the speculation regarding the voice actors for the show’s main characters.
Previously, both the eccentric scientist Rick and his grandson Morty were voiced by the same actor, but now they have new voices.
In the new season, Ian Cardoni lends his voice to Rick, while Harry Belden voices Morty. Cardoni is recognized for providing voiceovers for WWE promotions and Apple TV, while Belden has previous roles in shows like Joe Pera Talks With You and the medical drama Chicago Med.
The season premiere, which aired on Sunday night, featured a guest appearance by Hugh Jackman, well-known for his portrayal of Wolverine in the X-Men series, as himself. Rick and Morty sought his help to remove an unwelcome house guest, Poopy.
The show’s original co-creator, Justin Roiland, previously voiced both characters but was replaced after facing accusations of domestic violence (although the charges were later dropped).
The creators of the show aimed to make the transition in casting as seamless as possible to minimize disruption to the fans’ viewing experience.
Scott Marder, who led the search for the new voices, told the Hollywood Reporter: “The goal was always to try to preserve the viewing experience and give them [viewers] the same show they’ve had every other season.”
Fan reaction on social media to the new voices have been mixed.
“The new voices of Rick and Morty sound pretty convincing. Looking forward to the rest of Season 7,” one fan tweeted.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has stressed the need for citizens to have their breasts checked to curb the contraction of breast cancer.
According to the Service, early detection of cancer can save one’s life from several complications.
In a circular, the GHS noted that late detection of breast cancer can lead to the following: ulcers on the breast, swellings in the armpit, fluid accumulation in the lungs and the spread of cancer cells to lungs, brain and bones.
Breast cancer is a disease in which abnormal breast cells grow out of control and form tumours. If left unchecked, the tumours can spread throughout the body and become fatal.
Breast cancer cells begin inside the milk ducts and/or the milk-producing lobules of the breast. The earliest form (in situ) is not life-threatening. Cancer cells can spread into nearby breast tissue (invasion). This creates tumours that cause lumps or thickening.
Invasive cancers can spread to nearby lymph nodes or other organs (metastasize). Metastasis can be fatal.
Treatment is based on the person, the type of cancer and its spread. Treatment combines surgery, radiation therapy and medications.
The treatment of breast cancer in men follows the same principles of management as for women.
According to the WHO, “In 2020, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 685 000 deaths globally. As of the end of 2020, there were 7.8 million women alive who were diagnosed with breast cancer in the past 5 years, making it the world’s most prevalent cancer.”
Certain factors increase the risk of breast cancer including increasing age, obesity, harmful use of alcohol, family history of breast cancer, history of radiation exposure, reproductive history (such as age that menstrual periods began and age at first pregnancy), tobacco use and postmenopausal hormone therapy.
Approximately half of breast cancers develop in women who have no identifiable breast cancer risk factor other than gender (female) and age (over 40 years), the WHO adds.

A preliminary report from the Police indicates Nana Ottupre Kwagyan in the early morning of Monday, October 16, 2023, was forcefully taken from his house to an unknown location.
The swift intervention of the police following a report of the incident led to the rescue of the victim at Abene.
“The victim is currently in safe custody,” the Police noted in a public notice.
A 27-year-old house-help, accused of stealing USD 16,000 belonging to his employer, Mdaihli Fadlelah, and making off with his boss’s Apsonic motorbike valued at GH₵ 8,000, has been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court.
The accused, Thomas Yokpo, is alleged to have used the stolen money to travel to Nigeria in pursuit of better opportunities. Yakpo pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft.
The Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Afia Owusuaa Appiah, has remanded the accused, Thomas Yokpo, to reappear on October 31, 2023, for a Case Management Conference (CMC). The Court directed the prosecution to file and serve all disclosures and witness statements before the next adjourned date.
According to the prosecution, represented by Police Inspector Nana Akua Boatemaa, who stood in for Police Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, the complainant, Mr. Mdaihli Fadlelah, is a businessman residing at Regimanuel Estate, Spintex Road. The accused person, Thomas Yokpo, lived in the complainant’s house.
The prosecution explained that on March 14, 2023, the complainant entrusted USD 16,000.00 to the accused person with instructions to deliver it to someone named Ali on Spintex Road. However, after receiving the money, the accused person allegedly absconded with it along with the complainant’s Apsonic motorbike valued at GH₵ 8,000.00, traveling to an unknown destination.
During the investigation, the police learned that the accused person had left the motorbike with a friend in Koforidua, who also served as a witness in the case, and had traveled to Nigeria in search of better opportunities.
The prosecution reported that on September 27, 2023, Richmond Annin, the accused person’s friend in Koforidua, was arrested, and it was through him that the accused person returned from Nigeria to Ghana. The accused person was subsequently arrested on September 30, 2023.
In his caution statement during the investigation, the accused person confessed to the offenses as stated in the charge sheet. He revealed that it was his friend, Gideon (who is now at large), who aided him in absconding with the money and the motorbike. The motorbike has since been retrieved and is in the possession of the police.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s influence within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) continues to grow, with an increasing number of party members openly expressing their support for the Vice President. This surge of support is a testament to his rising popularity within the party.
Just a week after executives in the Assin Central Constituency of the Central Region openly declared their backing for Dr. Bawumia, executives and supporters from the Ashanti Region have followed suit.
During a news conference held on Sunday, October 15, 2023, supporters who had previously aligned themselves with John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten and Kennedy Agyapong switched their allegiance to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. They pledged unwavering support for his potential presidential candidacy.
Led by Mr. Dawuda Afriyie, the First Vice Chairman of the Offinso North Constituency, they were captured in a viral video singing praises to the Vice President and chanting the slogan “It’s Possible.”
Addressing the press, Adul Aziz Ismail, also known as Kennedy Ba, a polling station executive from Kwaman Methodist in the Afigya Kwabre North Constituency, emphasized the necessity for a candidate with a strong chance of winning, and they believe Dr. Bawumia is that candidate.
He stated, “We are looking for a winnable flagbearer for the 2024 polls. Some of our MPs and executives have come under severe attacks over their choice of their preferred candidates. The Majority Leader, who has been an MP for several years, knows the best candidate to be the flagbearer and settled on the Vice President as the best candidate. Our father Kan Dapaah believes Bawumia is the obvious choice, and we have bought into their idea. As a result, we have resolved to support the Vice President.”
Mr. Adul Aziz Ismail characterized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the ideal candidate to lead the NPP as its flagbearer in the 2024 elections. He stressed that this endorsement is driven by the greater good of the NPP and not influenced by any incentives or personal interests.
Meanwhile, Mr. Dawuda Afriyie, a dedicated supporter of Alan Kyeremanten in the Ashanti Region, expressed his disappointment with the behavior of the NPP member who had resigned.
He stated, “After Alan’s decision to resign from the NPP, it is obvious I am not a kid in politics to be shown which path to choose. I voted for Busia in 1969 and I have been voting to date. I have supporters, and we decided to throw our support behind Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. We have supporters in the 15 constituencies assigned to me, and I can assure you they will all be for Bawumia now.”

The 16 accused persons who invaded the United Television (UTV) studios at Tesano in the Greater Accra Region on October 7, 2023, have been convicted and sentenced to a fine by the Achimota District Court.
A group affiliated with the NPP stormed the UTV studios during the live broadcast of its entertainment program, United Showbiz, shortly after it commenced.
The show then abruptly went off air while commercials filled the screen. The group trooped in to demand the removal of musician Kwame A-Plus, from the programme for tearing up a letter said to be from the communication wing of the NPP.
Videos of the incident went viral on social media with many condemning the intrusion, while others questioned the state of security at the media house.
Hours later, the Police in a statement announced that it had arrested 16 persons involved in the incident.
They were subsequently charged with being on the premises for unlawful purposes and arraigned before court today, October 16, 2023.
The accused persons pleaded guilty to the charge against them. They were, therefore, convicted on their own pleas and sentenced to a fine of 200 penalty units each which amounts to GH₵ 2,400.00, and in default 3 months imprisonment.
They were also ordered by the Court to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for 6 months in default 6 months imprisonment.
The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has distanced itself from the invasion of UTV studios by some of its members last Saturday, October 7, 2023.
In response to the brouhaha, the leadership of the New Patriotic Party has rendered an apology to UTV, noting that it would cooperate with the police to investigate the matter.
Director of Communications for the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, who engaged the press noted that the party did not sanction anyone to go and disrupt the United Showbiz programme.
He is quoted to have said “We think that the attack is unacceptable, and it’s condemnable.”
The World Bank is anticipated to provide Ghana with $300 million in budget support in December 2023.
Information regarding Ghana’s program with the World Bank was obtained during the Annual IMF/World Bank meetings in Marrakech, Morocco, according to JoyBusiness.
Sources close to the Bank in Washington DC, USA have disclosed that Ghana has largely met the conditions for the final approval, which is expected to be granted by the Bank’s Board. The World Bank Board’s approval is anticipated to come shortly after the IMF Board’s approval, which is scheduled for November 22, 2023, following the Staff Level Agreement reached after the First Program Review.
The World Bank is also set to disburse around $250 million to support the Ghana Financial Stability Fund, aimed at assisting banks impacted by the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).
The Finance Ministry has indicated that the Ghana Financial Stability Fund should commence by the end of October 2023, and the government is expected to contribute approximately $700 million as part of its seed capital for the Fund.
World Bank sources have noted that Ghana has made significant progress in other programs aimed at restructuring the economy. It is anticipated that the World Bank will extend over $500 million to Ghana in budget support and other initiatives by the end of this year.
If Ghana secures approval from the IMF Board for around $600 million in the third week of November 2023, the country could receive more than $1.2 billion from these two institutions. Additionally, the African Development Bank is expected to provide support once Ghana secures the IMF Board’s approval following the first program review.
A World Bank report released in July 2023 titled “Price Surge: Unraveling Inflation Toll on Poverty and Food Security” projected that Ghana’s economy would recover to its full potential in 2025 but cautioned that growth might slow down in 2023 and remain subdued in 2024. The report called for Ghana to sustainably increase domestic revenue, particularly through the streamlining of tax incentive regimes and revenue administration improvement.
Notably, the IMF, in its latest assessment following the first program review by its staff, has suggested that Ghana’s economy may experience growth exceeding the previously projected 1.5 percent. Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta expressed optimism that the economy would grow by over 2.5 percent by December 31, 2023.
The significant number of individuals who have been displaced and had their properties destroyed due to the spillage of the Akosombo Dam must be duly compensated, according to the Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu.
The legislator believes such responsibility lies on the shoulders of the Volta River Authority (VRA) owing to its role in the disaster.
According to Mr Sosu, lives and properties have been destroyed due to the “negligence and miscalculation from engineers” of the Volta River Authority.
In a post on X on October 16, Mr Sosu accused the VRA of violating the “rights to life and property” due to the inability to handle the spillage of the dam with due diligence.
He added, “VRA owed a duty of care to this community. They negligently breached this duty and must pay adequate compensation to alleviate the pain and suffering of these people.”
For Mr Sosu, the effects of the spillage continue to get scarier by the day as “spillage is still ongoing.”
The Volta River Authority’s (VRA) decision to release excess water from the Akosombo Dam, a measure aimed at preventing a potential dam collapse has inundated several areas in the Tongu districts and other areas.
Properties worth millions of Ghana cedis have been destroyed, and over 15 communities in the Tongu districts have been negatively affected.
In response to the flooding situation, the government has formed an inter-ministerial committee to tackle the recent floods resulting from the discharge of water from the Volta and Kpong Dams by the VRA.
The thirteen-member committee will be headed by Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has appealed to the VRA to reduce the discharge of water from the Akosombo Dam. His main concern is to ensure the safe evacuation of all residents affected by the flooding.

The allegations of bias against the chairman of the committee investigating the leaked tape regarding the plot to remove Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from his role as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) do not appear to be subsiding.
Several civil society groups, including Imani Ghana and CDD-Ghana, have chosen to report Samuel Atta Akyea to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
Following their meeting with the Speaker, the President of Imani Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe, stated that Mr. Atta Akyea has been diverting the committee’s focus away from its designated terms of reference.
This deviation, he contends, has had a negative impact on the atmosphere and morale within the Ghana Police Service, necessitating immediate intervention by the Speaker.
Mr. Cudjoe emphasized that the Abuakwa South lawmaker appears to be acting as both judge and jury within his own courtroom.
“We wanted to find out from the Speaker what the original terms of reference for the Committee were. Because we realized that the Committee chairman seems to be setting his questions and answering them.”
“The Speaker was categorical that well, look, I gave the Chairman of the Committee specific terms of reference. To get the authenticity of the tape, basically, those comments that were made and the persons who made them,” Mr Cudjoe said.
Mr Samuel Atta Akyea has refuted the accusations of bias made against him. He contends that he has overseen the proceedings of the Committee impartially and without prejudice.
“The word doctored I used is what did not sit well with him, but what I said is deduced from how it started. Was I not together with my committee members who afforded the IGP the best opportunity to speak to the press?”
Prior to this, Kwame Gyan, who serves as Counsel for Dr. Dampare, expressed his public disappointment regarding Mr. Atta Akyea’s leadership of the committee. He firmly maintained that the MP was treating his client unfairly. According to Kwame Gyan, the chairman, who should ideally remain impartial toward the witnesses, has exhibited clear biases.
In an interview with JoyNews on Monday, October 9, the outspoken lawyer emphasized that Mr. Atta Akyea appears to be pursuing a specific agenda in this matter.
“He has his agenda. He will be granting media interviews to the extent that after one sitting, he went out there and said the extended tape submitted by Bugri Naabu, which had not been played at the committee, has been doctored. Very prejudicial comments,” he said.

Host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere, has chastised private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, for his recent comments against the president and former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.
In his critique of President Akufo-Addo, Mr Kpebu said the president has personally been accused of corruption and will be prosecuted when he leaves office.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo will not be allowed to avoid accountability.
“Let’s come to the president’s own involvement in corruption, the reason why last year I said he was part of a criminal syndicate. Don’t forget Manasseh Awuni did a documentary in which the president personally asked for fumigation of schools, etc by Zoomlion at a cost of over ¢500 million and he is yet to bring his response.”
“That is what the Manasseh investigation found about him personally. All the assemblies all the way to the ministries all said it was the president and even the assemblies showed that they could have done it at a cheaper cost yet President Akufo-Addo personally supervised that fumigation at over ¢500 million and he thinks we have forgotten?
“He should wait until he leaves office, we will drag him. We will ask for him to be prosecuted. He shouldn’t forget. He will be prosecuted in this country,” he told host, Kojo Yankson.
With regards to Cecilia Dapaah and her case with the Office of the Special Prosecutor, the legal practitioner has supported the seizure of the former Minister’s money as part of a probe into corruption-related activities by the OSP after it was revealed that millions of cedis and dollars in the home of Madam Dapaah are unaccounted for.
He has proposed the search of the residences of all government ministers and appointees as part of the anti-corruption efforts.
“Let’s search the officers at the Jubilee House, let’s search the Ministers, let’s search them…the monies are in their homes. If we don’t do this we are not fighting corruption. If we don’t search all the ministers forget it we are just playing.”
But according to Mr Paul Adom-Otchere, Mr Kpebu lacks the moral right to chastise these individuals as he has failed to be upright in the past.
He made reference to the Fred Kusim. A. Windaogo (Plaintiff) vs Martin Luther Kpebu (the 1st defendant) in 2020, where both lawyers went before the court over who has the ownership and copyright of a book titled “Annotated Evidence Law of Ghana”.
Martin Kpebu told the court he re-wrote all the work done by Fred and therefore the final work is his handiwork alone and not a joint authorship.
But the court ruled against Martin Kpebu, describing his actions as unjust and unlawful.
“In dealing with the issues, I do not wish to rehash the facts further. Consequently, based on the aforementioned analysis and conclusion, it is my opinion that the general conduct of Martin Kpebu in the subject matter project with the Plaintiff was unjust and unlawful. One clear instance is Martin Kpebu’s decision to unilaterally change the order of the names on the book. That was unjust and unfair because the agreement he signed clearly stated how the names were to be on the book,” the judge is quoted to have ruled.
Referencing the case, Mr Adom-Otchere said Martin Kpebu cannot call out individuals as he has stolen the work of a colleague once.
“I really don’t like getting into that but when Martin Kpebu continues to call other people names when he, the practitioner of the deviant behaviour, then he is calling other people names. Then I am concerned to put this out in the public domain to see the kind of person – there is the message and messenger.
“The message can be said by anyone but if it is said by the wrong person the message will not go anywhere. So he is coming to say Cecilia Dapaah is a thief. Do this to her. Nana Akufo-Addo is this. He is stealing people’s work and saying he is smart and popular,” he said on the show.
Meanwhile, Mr Kpebu is nowhere on record to have called Madam Cecilia Dapaah a thief.
The two individuals on October 11, had an engagement following the High Court’s consideration of arguments for expediting the confirmation of the freezing and seizure orders.
Earlier reports suggested that there was a confrontation between the duo, but that has been refuted by the legal practitioner.
But Mr Kpebu in an interview on TV3, said Madam Dapaah was polite to him. He explained that Madam Dapaah only asked about the “commentaries I have been running.”
“To be very honest with you, considering what she is going through, as against the conversation we had, she was very cordial. She was a bit very polite. Polite is a better word. No, she wasn’t fighting me,” he added.
