Felix Kwakye Ofosu labels NPP’s delegates conference as convoluted

NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has criticised the New Patriotic Party’s delegates system.

He says  the NPP’s super delegates’ conference is a convoluted electoral process.

He stated that the system which has been designed to reduce the final number of NPP presidential candidates to be presented to the general delegates’ conference restricts the frontiers of democracy.

According to him, there was nothing wrong with the old system where all the candidates would be presented to the general delegates’ conference for a collective choice to be made.

Describing the super delegates’ conference as a knee-jerk response to criticism the party faced in 2007, he said the NPP should not have tampered with the process.

“To be honest with you, I am not entirely sold on this super delegates business. I think it was a knee jerk response to the criticism they faced in 2007 when 17 people showed up. I think they misapprehended the criticism at the time. The criticism had to do more with the flamboyance and opulence displayed at the time and not necessarily the numbers.

“Because really apart from creating an opportunity for an unwieldy ballot paper which may confuse less enlightened voters, I don’t see what real problem that poses. What are you going to do for instance if in the parliamentary primaries 17 people show up to contest one particular constituency? Are you going to hold a super delegates’ conference on that one too?”

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further noted that the super delegates’ conference would inadvertently skew the electoral results towards the “establishment candidate” as electorates would want to side with power.

“What people were concerned about was the overt show of opulence that is what you ought to have dealt with, you didn’t need to tamper with the process because what it does for me is to restrict the frontiers of democracy. You see we’re talking about 900 super delegates, these are crème-de-la-crème, anybody who is everybody in the NPP.

“And indeed Boakye Agyarko has complained that the tendency is for that process to skewed towards the establishment candidate because you see the people in that bracket are people who will naturally gravitate towards the centre of power in order to benefit from whatever largesse that they think that there is, and so in terms of the fairness and the openness and transparency of the process there is a bit of a difficulty.

“I don’t think that they should have done that. They should have still allowed the broad masses of the delegates to decide who qualifies. If you have to organize two rounds of voting then I think that everybody who is eligible to vote within your party ought to have had a say in how the numbers are pruned down,” he said.

Don Jazzy debunks being secretly married with 4 kids

Nigerian musician and producer Don Jazzy, whose real name is Michael Collins Ajereh, in a recent interview with Fisayo Fosudo has addressed the rumors surrounding his marital status and the claim that he has four children. Don Jazzy stated that these rumors were false, emphasizing that he would not conceal such a significant aspect of his life.

“A lot of people still think I’m married with four children but I’m hiding them. I don’t know why I will have children and decide just to be lying for years that I don’t have children. How do I want my children to even feel? Do I look like somebody that even wants to be hiding things?” he quizzed.

Don Jazzy added that “no, I don’t have any child, to the best of my knowledge.

These speculations have been going on for a while especially since the Mavin Records boss has not known to be in any romantic relationship.

Meanwhile during the interview, Don Jazzy also denied “ridiculous” rumours that he is gay.

“They say that’s why I’m not married. I have heard that I’m grooming young boys. People are mad [laughs].”

  • Thomas Tuchel responds to Bayern Munich losing Declan Rice to Arsenal

Thomas Tuchel responds to Bayern Munich losing Declan Rice to Arsenal

Declan Rice, who just joined Arsenal, would have been an ‘interesting’ addition to Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich team, according to the coach.

On Saturday, Rice signed a record-breaking £105 million transfer agreement with the Gunners.

It ends one of the most drawn-out transfer sagas in recent memory, one in which the top clubs in Europe competed to capture the former West Ham captain.

Bayern, Chelsea and Manchester United, were among those to miss out on his signature, with the Bundesliga champions entering the race for the defensive midfielder late on.

But they were eventually priced out of the move, which will have no doubt disappointed Tuchel who was said to be a huge fan of the 24-year-old having witnessed his impressive performances first-hand while he was Chelsea boss.

Asked about Bayern’s failed pursuit of Rice, the German manager said: ‘It could have been an interesting addition to have a player with his character in the squad.

‘He’s a good player and he went to a good club. He has a profile that I don’t think we have in the squad. It could be interesting to have it.’

Rice is not the only English star that Tuchel has been pursuing however, with Manchester City defender Kyle Walker also on his shortlist.

More notably, Bayern are the favourites to sign Tottenham striker Harry Kane, though striking a deal for the Three Lions captain is proving hard with Spurs rejecting the Germans’ second offer of £70m.

Asked about the links to Kane, Tuchel said: ‘I have a very boring answer: I do not comment on players who are not with us.

‘It’s well known that we are looking for a Number 9. If we find someone that fits in, then we’ll go all in. If we don’t find anyone, we’re happy with our squad. But we need more patience.’

Over 26 people died as result of South Korea’s severe rainstorms and landslides

Due to severe rain that produced landslides and flash floods, 26 people have perished in South Korea, and hundreds more people have had to leave their homes.

According to the nation’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety, nine people have been hurt by the rain, while ten more are still unaccounted for.

According to the government, 16 fatalities were reported in the nation’s North Gyeongsang province, which is located on the Korean Peninsula’s eastern coast. Landslides killed the majority of those people there.

Public roads, houses and farm fields have also been damaged by the severe flooding, it added.

In the South Chungcheong Province city of Nonsan, two people died Friday after their building collapsed due to a landslide, YonhapNews Agencyreported.

Across South Korea, more than 5,566 people were forced to evacuate their homes and seek temporary shelter as of early Sunday, the ministry said. In addition, some 8,300 households in four provinces are experiencing power outages, according to Yonhap.

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo ordered authorities to evacuate those in landslide-prone regions and to carry out rescue efforts, according to the South Korean news agency.

Last year, the South Korean capital Seoul logged record downpours that inundated homes, roads and subways, killing at least nine people.

Scientists have warned the frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall is increasing across East Asia as the human-caused climate crisis accelerates the probability of extreme weather events.

The newest round of heavy rains in South Korea come just days after devastating floods wreaked havoc in neighboring Japan, killing at least six people and injuring 19.

Torrential rain in southwestern Japan prompted the country’s weather agency to issue emergency warnings at the start of the week for the Fukuoka and Oita prefectures, on Kyushu, the country’s third largest island.

Earlier this month, heavy downpours also caused flooding in southwest China, killing at least 15 people in the city of Chongqing.

It said the attempts by some of them to replicate government institutions thereby assuming positions of authority to resolve human trafficking issues is illegal and must be stopped, adding NGOs must be conscious of their role and rather support the government to achieve national targets.

Deputy sector minister, Francisca Oteng Mensah, said this at the launch of this year’s commemoration of World against Human Trafficking, also known as the Blue day, in Accra.

She said Ghana is still confronted with a situation where young girls who migrate to Gulf countries for greener pastures get trafficked, molested and exploited.

“Let me again re-emphasize the fact that, NGOs working in the field of human trafficking should desist from attempting to create replicate government institutions making it seem like they have the powers to do so. You should understand your role as non-profit making organization by following the standard operating processes laid down for you to support government agencies achieved set targets and goals”.

She said to prevent, protect and punish offenders of human trafficking, Ghana has signed international treaties including passage of the Human Trafficking Prohibition Regulations including the development of the Human Trafficking National Plan of Action, which covers 2022 to 2026.

“As a form of highlight to prevent, protect and punish offenders of human trafficking, Ghana signed the Palermo Protocol in 2000 and ratified in 2012. It is evidenced that, several legislations have been enacted which mainly are the Human Trafficking Act of 2005, Act 694 and it’s amendments as well as passage of the Human Trafficking Prohibition Regulations in 2015.

The ministry has developed the Human Trafficking National Plan of Action, NPA, 2022-2026, which is a comprehensive document to support the effective implementation of the HT Act of 2005, Act 694.The Plan of Action covers all the thematic areas, prevention, protection, prosecution and partnership”.

Madam Oteng Mensah commended stakeholders in the tourism industry for their enormous support and contribution towards eliminating human trafficking and all forms of exploitation.

In a speech read on his behalf, Country Director of EU delegation in Ghana, Serge Akpalou, stated commemoration of the day presents an opportunity for especially international partners to reaffirm new commitment in the fight against human trafficking.

He pledged commitment of the EU to support Ghana in its quest to end the human trafficking menace.

“In commemorating the UN day, against human trafficking, we join the ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection, and all donors to reaffirm the new commitment in the fight against human trafficking. We reiterate the importance of our collaboration with the ministry.

Mr. Akpalou, challenged countries to enact laws that punishes persons who knowingly use services provided from victims of trafficking”

“Countries must also make sure that a person knowingly using services provided from victims of Trafficking can face sanctions. This will present an important step in the fight against human trafficking. Sexual exploitation”.

The Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Linda Asante Agyei, encouraged media houses and practitioners to develop interest in human trafficking to educate the masses.

“By writing an article or broadcasting an item focusing on Human trafficking, the media is not only educating the public but also shining light on an issue typically shrouded in darkness. However, some journalists and media outlets are not really aware of the trafficking phenomenon or do not have sufficient understanding of the dimensions of the problem as a result some media coverages confuse the issues with others such as migration or such as migrant smuggling”.

Globally July 30th is commemorated as World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, to raise awareness on human trafficking. Ghana commemorates this year’s event under the theme, Ending Human Trafficking: A collective responsibility”.

Seven dead bodies recovered after flooding traps cars in tunnel in South Korea

Authorities reported Sunday that seven remains were removed by rescuers from vehicles stranded in a flooded underpass in central South Korea, where days of torrential rain had created landslides and flash floods that had claimed at least 33 lives.

Seo Jeong-il, the head of the local fire department, said that after 15 vehicles, including a public bus, became stuck by rising flood waters in the Gungpyeong tunnel on Saturday, a massive search and rescue operation involving 400 employees and divers was started.

Seo said in a television briefing that the levee of the nearby Miho river in North Chungcheong province burst, allowing the flood to gushe into the tunnel and trapping the vehicles and individuals inside.

Dashcam footage from one vehicle that made it though the tunnel, shows water rushing into the underpass as cars drive head on into the flood waters.

The rescue operation was ongoing Sunday morning, with 10 people reported missing while authorities worked to identify the bodies, according to South Korean Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Nine people had been rescued with injuries, Seo said.

Rescue teams continued to drain the tunnel of flood water Sunday morning, pumping out 80,000 liters per minute. At 4:33 a.m., the top of the bus became visible, Seo said. But authorities said the chance of finding any more survivors is unlikely.

“We are mobilizing about 30 divers in groups of two in rotation for the search operation,” said Seo. “We are trying our best right now, although it is difficult since the site is covered in mud.”

Five bodies were discovered when divers searched the trapped bus, among the dead is a woman in her 70s, according to Seo.

Dozens of people have died in South Korea in recent days as torrential monsoon rains triggered flooding and landslides across the country.

Across the country, more than 5,500 people have been forced to evacuate their homes and seek temporary shelter, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety said Sunday.

In addition, some 8,300 households in four provinces are experiencing power outages, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Public roads, houses and farm fields have been damaged by the severe flooding.

South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo ordered authorities to evacuate those in landslide-prone regions and to carry out rescue efforts, according to the South Korean news agency.

Scientists have warned the frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall is increasing across East Asia as the human-caused climate crisis accelerates the probability of extreme weather events.

The latest round of heavy rains in South Korea come just days after devastating floods wreaked havoc in neighboring Japan, killing at least six people and injuring 19.

And flash floods have torn through southwest China in recent weeks, killing at least 15 people in the city of Chongqing.

Declan Rice discusses why he chose to join Arsenal instead of West Ham

Declan Rice wrote a heartfelt farewell letter to West Ham supporters in which he discusses the reasons behind his decision to join Arsenal.

The move of the England international set a British record, and it was announced on Saturday before the Gunners made an official statement.

The 24-year-old was selected by Mikel Arteta as his top summer priority, and after drawn-out, arduous discussions, the Arsenal manager has finally secured his services, but only after a colossal £105 million fee was reached.

A cash injection of that magnitude for the Hammers will help soften the blow of losing their influential skipper and provide some comfort to Rice, who confessed the decision to leave the club at which he has spent the entirety of his professional career was a difficult one.

Rice also attracted interest from Manchester City but he only had eyes for Arsenal, whose return to the Champions League after a six-year absence proved a huge motivating factor behind his decision to move across the capital.

”My last thank-you must go to you, the supporters,’ Rice wrote. ‘The loyal, passionate, devoted, at times hilarious, and always honest Hammers, who are massive everywhere you go…!

‘You have taken me into your hearts as one of your own from day one. Even when it was just a handful of fans at the Under-18 or Under-23 games, I felt that love, and it has just grown stronger as the years have passed.

‘Playing in front of you has been an honour, we have had such great times together, and you all mean so much to me.

‘I want you to know how tough a decision it has been for me to leave an environment that I have loved and cherished so much. Ultimately, though, it has only ever been about my ambition to play at the very highest level of the game.

‘Playing on the opposite team to West Ham for the first time will be an unusual experience. I’m not sure yet exactly how I will feel, but I also know you will all understand and respect that my professional loyalties have to now lie with my new Club. I will always give 100% every single time I pull on the shirt – because that is how I have been brought up at West Ham, and I’m sure you wouldn’t expect anything else.

‘However, that does not mean my love and respect for you all has been diminished in any way. This Club and its supporters will always be in my heart, and forever a part of who I am.’

Tolon MP debunks forgery allegations; threatens to take action against persons claiming otherwise

Member of Parliament for Tolon, Habib Iddrisu, has debunked allegations of forgery made against him in Australia.

The accusations came to light when Yaw Brogya Genfi, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Organiser, filed a writ at the Supreme Court seeking to annul Habib Iddrisu’s election as the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for the Tolon constituency.

In the writ, Brogya Genfi claimed that the MP had been convicted of fraud and forgery in Australia, making him ineligible to contest the Ghanaian election at the time he filed his nomination.

According to the writ filed on November 7, 2023, Mr. Iddrisu pleaded guilty and was convicted by the Perth Magistrates Court on November 28, 2011.

During a recent appearance on the Big Issues show on July 16, the Tolon MP was confronted about the case by lawyer Martin Kpebu.

In response, Habib Iddrisu asserted, “There is no case against me.” However, Martin Kpebu reminded the MP of the eligibility issue, stating, “They said you are not eligible. You were convicted in Australia for something.”

Expressing his frustration, the Tolon MP firmly denied being found guilty in any court of competent jurisdiction and expressed disappointment in Martin Kpebu’s remarks.

Habib Iddrisu warned, “He has mentioned a certain statement, and I’m telling you that I’m going to take action based on this record. You said I was convicted in Australia and that there is a case against me. The point is, have I been found guilty in any court of competent jurisdiction. I’m very disappointed in you. If you don’t withdraw it now, I will take action.”

The MP further emphasized, “You cannot sit down here and make reckless and stupid comments. To the best of my knowledge, I have not been declared guilty at any court.”

An unidentified relative of May Edochie has made an allegation that their son, Kambilichukwu, was poisoned with a burger and a drink.

During a phone conversation with a reporter, an alleged member of May Edochie’s family made the accusation that their son, Kambilichukwu, was poisoned with a burger and a drink. The specific details of the conversation and the identity of the relative remain undisclosed.

She explained that he was with a friend when he received the food box, which included a burger and a drink.

Kylian Mbappe responds as Christopher Nkunku finally completes first Chelsea training

It wasn’t just Chelsea supporters who were enthusiastic about Christopher Nkunku‘s first practise as a member of the London club on Friday.

The Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are in effect, and this website is secured by reCAPTCHA.

Although the move of the France international was agreed upon in November of last year, it wasn’t formally approved until earlier this month.

Nkunku, now fully recovered from the injury which ruled him out of last December’s World Cup, is now hoping to his the ground running at Stamford Bridge and will be included in Mauricio Pochettino’s pre-season tour squad.

The 25-year-old scored 23 times in all competitions last season for RB Leipzig and Chelsea will be hoping he can bring some of that surefootedness in front of goal to west London given the troubles the Blues endured last term.

Nkunku will doubtless require time to adjust to the rigours of Premier League football but one man who appears to be confident of success is his international teammate Kylian Mbappe.

Underneath an Instagram post of Nkunku being put through his paces at Chelsea Cobham training base, the PSG superstar wrote ‘Going to get my Popcorn’.

Chelsea are scheduled to play five games in America over the next three weeks and the club will hope to avoid a repeat of 12 months ago when Thomas Tuchel fumed over a chaotic tour that left his squad ill-prepared ahead of what turned out to be a tumultuous campaign.

Pochettino is still hoping that the futures of a number of players deemed surplus to requirements will have been sorted before he and his team fly to America.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Romelu Lukaku, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi have all attracted interest from Saudi Pro League clubs but none of that quartet are close to securing their exits.

Reece James, meanwhile, is expected to be fit enough to feature in pre-season after he underwent a precautionary scan on his knee earlier this week.

  • Why Deputy Majority Whip and Lawyer Martin Kpebu clashed on live TV

Why Deputy Majority Whip and Lawyer Martin Kpebu clashed on live TV

It was a spectacular sight at the TV3 studio when the Deputy Majority Whip, Habib Iddrisu, and Private Legal Practitioner, Martin Kpebu, clashed live on TV.

Alfred Ocansey, the host of TV3’s weekend current affairs program, The Big Issue, had to activate a forced commercial break to save the Saturday, July 15, 2023 edition of his show from becoming an epicenter of unrestrained verbal bout after guests, Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner and Habib Iddrisu, Member of Parliament for Tolon Constituency and deputy majority chief whip lost their cool on the show.

It all started when Martin Kpebu cut into a delivery of Habib Iddrisu with a jab about his supposed legal battle at the Supreme Court over his eligibility to stand for elections in Ghana.

Habib Iddrisu who was defending the position of his government and the New Patriotic Party on the leaked tape that captures a senior police officer and some NPP bigwigs allegedly hatching a plot to oust the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, took umbrage with the remarks from Martin Kpebu.

After Martin Kpebu, without the permission of the show host, threw the first shot “Honorable Habib, I thought you will be concerned with case against you at the Supreme Court.” The NPP MP fought back, defending his innocence that “There is no case against me.”

But Martin Kpebu appeared determined in his quest to unsettle the MP as he restated “Your eligibility. They said you are not eligible. You were convicted in Australia for something.”

The statement about the alleged conviction in Australia threw off the MP who went ballistic and issued his first threat “He has mentioned a certain statement and I’m telling you that I’m going to take action based on this record. You said I was convicted in Australia and that there is a case against me. The point is, have I been found guilty in any court of competent jurisdiction? I’m very disappointed in you. If you don’t withdraw it now, I will take action.”

But Martin Kpebu was adamant that he was on the right path. He dared the MP to “let’s go to court.

At this point, the Deputy Majority Leader had completely lost it. He fired again “You cannot sit down here and make reckless and stupid comments. To the best of my knowledge, I have not been declared guilty at any court.”

Martin Kpebu maintained that his allegations were credible and that it is trite knowledge that Habib Iddrisu was convicted in Australia. He quizzed “but it is in the public domain?”

His question irked the MP who blurted out and demanded withdrawal and apology from Martin Kpebu.

He said “That it is in the public domain doesn’t mean that I have been convicted so you don’t sit down here and make this stupid and reckless statement. What kind of nonsense is that? Very disappointing.”

Martin Kpebu in a sarcastic tone withdrew the statement, saying “I’ve withdrawn.”

His apology did little to assuage the anger of the lawmaker who attacked again “I’m not as useless as you are.”

At this point, the show host was left with no option but to pull the brakes on the show and go on a commercial break.

Tempers looked to have settled after the break as both men apologized and withdrew their respective statements.

  • Three methods for Carlos Alcaraz to defeat Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final

Three methods for Carlos Alcaraz to defeat Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final

Tennis enthusiasts, commentators, and writers have long pondered the next generation of players and argued about when they would start to displace legends like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray.

Murray is considering his options for the future, Nadal will follow Federer in retirement next year, and Djokovic is outlasting them all, but he is still going strong. On Centre Court on Sunday, where he has not lost in a decade, it would take an extraordinary, once-in-a-generation talent to defeat him.

Step forward Carlos Alcaraz. The legendary John McEnroe believes the 20-year-old Spanish world No.1 is better than Djokovic, Nadal, Federer and Murray when they were his age and he has tweaked his game to make himself a force on grass.

Make no mistake, Djokovic is the heavy favourite and after becoming the first player ever to reach 35 Grand Slam finals, it is probable that he will lift a record-extending 24th major trophy, in what would be his eighth Wimbledon title.

But Alcaraz will be doing everything he can to stop Djokovic from equalling Federer for the most Wimbledon men’s singles titles ever in his first final at the Championships, after registering his maiden major trophy at last year’s US Open.

Here are three things the Queen’s Club champion can do to beat Djokovic when the duo meet in the 136th Wimbledon final at the All England Club on Sunday…

Be on the same level mentally

There are not many players who can compete with Djokovic physically, even less than can match his mental ability.

Alcaraz admits that the mental side of his game cost him when he lost to Djokovic in the French Open semi-final last month, with severe cramp brought on by the stress and nervousness of playing the Serbian legend in such a big match.

But Alcaraz is adamant that he has learnt from that experience and that things will be different when he locks horns with Djokovic again – revealing on Friday that he is working on new mental exercises before the match – one in which that he plans to trick himself into ‘forgetting’ that he is playing the seven-time champion.

‘I have a psychologist that I have worked with since the beginning of 2020,’ Alcaraz said. ‘She helps me a lot. I will talk with her how to prepare the match, that[is an] important moment for me, it is not going to be easy. But I’ll talk with her.’

Avoid a tie-break at all costs

Djokovic does not lose tie-breaks. He was remarkably won his last 15 at Grand Slams, most recently in the semi-final win over Jannik Sinner, while in his fourth-round victory over Hubert Hurkacz, the 36-year-old took the record for the most Grand Slam tie-breaks won in a single year.

‘I think the longer the streak goes, I guess mentally the more resilient or tougher I am in these situations,’ Djokovic said. ‘Coming into every tie-break now, I feel I think more comfortable than my opponent just because of the record. I think that my opponents also know about that record. That mentally makes a difference.’

It means that Alcaraz will have to play with more risk and do everything he can to break his opponent, while remaining faultless on serve. The young Spaniard admits that Djokovic has ‘no weakness’ but can cause him problems if he combines his solid groundstrokes with his dangerous and highly-rated drop shot.

Alcaraz must make the most of his stamina and on-court movement too and also cut down on unforced errors, making a total of 183 compared to Djokovic’s 118, including 23 double faults, which he must reduce if he wants to come out on top.

    Don’t make Djokovic angry

If there is one thing we know about Djokovic it is that he feeds off a crowd, particularly a negative one.

The Centre Court crowd love an underdog and it can be expected that they will be mostly behind Alcaraz, just as they were with Sinner in Friday’s semi-final.

During that clash in the last four, Djokovic got fired up when spectators loudly cheered Sinner getting to set point, with one fan trolling him by shouting out ‘come on Rafa’ in reference to his rival Rafael Nadal.

Djokovic impressively saved both set points before turning around to shout at the crowd and as he was loudly booed, he wiped away a fake tear.

It is important for Alcaraz to not make Djokovic angry where possible, and try to stop him from using the crowd to his advantage if it becomes an emotive match.

If Alcaraz can combine those three things, he will have a chance of winning the Wimbledon final.

But it must be said, only a mad man would bet against Djokovic, who is looking to lift his fifth Wimbledon title in a row.

‘I do have more experience playing in many more Grand Slam or Wimbledon finals than him,’ Djokovic added. ‘Still he’s in great shape. He’s very motivated. He’s young. He’s hungry. I’m hungry, too, so let’s have a feast (smiling).’

More plots to oust Dampare unveiled

More plots targeted at the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare have been exposed.

Latest to make such revelations is the host of Onua Maakye on Onua TV, Captain Smart, who has divulged some locations of meetings between the unknown faces planning to forcefully remove IGP George Akuffo Dampare from office.

Captain Smart, during the Wednesday, July 12 edition of his show disclosed that some of the meetings that produced the leaked audio on the ousting of IGP Dampare were held at East Legon, Kumasi; Buokrom F-Line.

“The audio currently in circulation; one occurred at East Legon, and the other happened in the Ashanti Region at Buokrom F-Line to be precise. I am telling you. East Legon, Kumasi, Buokrom F-Line,” Captain Smart.

Captain Smart further alleged that there is a morning show host of both a radio and TV station whose core duty is to malign and defame Dampare in a bid to force him out of office.

“There is a radio and TV station which allows its morning show lead and team to discuss Dampare. They are always looking for stories that could get Dampare out of office because he does not allow their party to do the things they want to do but only cares about the wellness of the country. How is it that you will meet a so-called journalist and he or she will ask if ‘is Ghana for Dampare’?” Captain Smart quizzed.

    Background

GhanaWeb has intercepted a series of secret recordings exposing details of a plot by some top officials of the ruling New Patriotic Party and the Ghana Police Service to displace the current Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare from office ahead of the 2024 polls.

Apparently threatened by his leadership style and alleged affiliation with the opposition National Democratic Congress, the group who were recorded in a secret meeting concluded that the NPP’s “Breaking the 8” agenda will be impossible with Dampare at the helm of the police.

“Alhaji, my only problem… this current IGP if we do a mistake and take him to the elections, it will not help us. It will not help us at all and I will not mind if the position is not given to me but that man is changed; because he will not help us, he will not help us at all… he won’t help the party at all.

“I know there are others who are also good for this position, if I don’t get and this man is changed and those people that we think they are our men get (it is ok) … Because we need to break this 8. That is important, we need to break the 8… Because I wouldn’t want doctor to become the flagbearer and then we lose the elections… ” one of the senior officers told the senior NPP member who is believed to be a former regional chairman of the party and now a traditional ruler.

  • Harry Kane has informed Bayern Munich of his desire to join them – Uli Hoeness

Harry Kane has informed Bayern Munich of his desire to join them – Uli Hoeness

Uli Hoeness, a former club president, claims that Harry Kane has informed Bayern Munich that he wants to sign with them this summer.

In recent weeks, Bayern had two bids for the captain of Tottenham rejected; the most recent was reportedly worth £68.5 million plus add-ons.

The striker has one year left on his present contract, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is desperate to hold onto him in the hopes that he will agree to a new agreement in north London.

Hoeness, who now serves as Bayern’s honorary president and is a member of the club’s supervisory board, claims that Kane has made it clear that he wants to go with the German champions and that this desire will force Tottenham to make a decision this summer.

‘Harry Kane has clearly signalled in all conversations that his decision has been made – and if it stays, then we will get him because then Tottenham will have to buckle,’ Hoeness said from Bayern Munich’s training camp, SPORT1 report.

He added: ‘He wants to play in European competitions and luckily for us Tottenham won’t be playing there next year. He now has another opportunity to come to a top club in Europe.

‘What we all like: His advisors are also very pleasant in this case. Up to now, his father and his brother have always stood by what they promised. If it stays that way, then it is okay.’

Just hours before Hoeness’ comments, head coach Thomas Tuchel took a more cautious approach when quizzed on the club’s interest in Kane.

‘I have a very boring answer: I do not comment on players who are not with us,’ Tuchel told a press conference.

‘It’s well known that we are looking for a number 9. If we find someone that fits in, then we’ll go all in.

‘If we don’t find anyone, we’re happy with our squad. But we need more patience’.

Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing Kane while Manchester United are thought to have shelved their interest this summer.

KKD’s son spotted in LGBTQ+ protest in London

The son of well-known Ghanaian broadcaster Kwasi Kyei-Darkwah, also known as KKD, Kwaku Darkwah Kyei-Darkwah, led a parade that recently took place in England.

The LGBTQ+ community organised the parade, which was one of many waves of protests held by the trans and intersex community throughout Europe in their fight for greater rights and recognition.

Wearing an unbuttoned long-sleeved shirt over a bra with jeans trousers and a handbag across his chest, and sporting a curly afro wig, the fashion brand’s sales executive and stylist made clarion calls as the group marched on.

“I just want to say to everybody new that is walking by, whether you are in support or pathetic, we are not only walking so that we can stick it to everyone. We are walking because we know we are fine. We are walking because we know we are divine. We are walking because we have rights. We are walking because we know that we are building, and we are not going to stop,” he shouted into a handheld microphone.

He also emphasized that the trans fight will continue unabated.

“What you are seeing today is going to continue happening. We will continue walking, we will continue marching, we will continue fighting. We will be on your airwaves, we will be on your TV screens. We are not going anywhere,” he emphasized in a viral video from the march.

Darkwah Kyei-Darkwah came out as gay in November 2017 in a publication by the digital magazine intomore.com.

Noting the difficulty in coming out as gay, the son of the celebrated Ghanaian broadcaster said he had gone past that stage and felt no need to conform to anyone’s standards in terms of his sexuality.

“The moment I realized I was gay happened in primary school. Someone called me gay as an insult, and I responded with ‘so what?’ I was totally fine with it, but others weren’t, and that was when the discomfort and shame with my sexuality started,” he told intomore.com.

He was featured on the website alongside other gay models with African backgrounds, discussing the issues they face as queer people of color.

“Living under my parents’ roof, I was constantly hiding. I’d get home from school and be incredibly quiet, helpful, and obedient. I stayed in my room most of the time. I was playing the role of the ‘ideal son’ so I could just skate by unnoticed. It wasn’t until I was no longer living at home that I started to realize I wasn’t anyone or anything I’d known so far in my life,” he said.

“I went through a lot of ups and downs, trying out new ways of dressing, trying out new friendship groups, and reinventing myself over and over again. I realized I did this because I was still trying to fit in a box – the stylish black guy, the cool and macho black guy, the femme, flamboyant, and fun black guy. None worked because there is a lot more to me (and any person, for that matter) than a stereotype. I am now very comfortable with my sexuality because I don’t feel I need to conform to any one image,” he added.

His father, after his son had come out, issued a message of support via Facebook.

In his long statement of support, which was later deleted from his page, KKD congratulated his son for coming out and described him as brave and courageous.

Things will be easier for us when Bawumia is elected NPP flagbearer – NPP MP

Member of Parliament for Atwima Kwanwoma, Kofi Amankwa-Manu, has declared Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the best candidate to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and subsequently become the President after the 2024 general elections.

He believes the Vice President is the best person to deliver the country from its current economic woes.

During an interview with Kwesi Parker-Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the lawmaker emphasized that he firmly believes Dr. Bawumia is the best candidate to lead the country.

“I have a good relationship with all ten aspirants. I eat with them, and some of them are even related to me through my grandfather’s side in Asokore Mampong,” stated the MP.

However, he believes that the current state of the country requires a leader like Dr. Bawumia who can bring about positive change. “When Dr. Bawumia is elected as flagbearer, things will be easier for us,” he added.

The MP made it clear that he is not concerned about losing his seat for supporting Dr. Bawumia. “I won’t mind losing my seat if the NPP wins the 2024 elections. I firmly believe that Dr. Bawumia’s victory will benefit the party as a whole,” he asserted.

“I have never discussed this with the Majority Leader. I don’t believe in the whip system in Parliament. I was brought up to speak my mind, but in a respectful manner. I don’t think someone can convince me to support someone against my own beliefs,” he explained.

The MP, who doubles as deputy defence minister, emphasized the need for a leader with a clear vision and highlighted Dr. Bawumia as the sole vice president within the 4th Republic who has demonstrated unwavering commitment and proactivity.

“If you have such an exceptional individual, why should we seek an alternative?” the MP asked, underscoring the importance of supporting Dr. Bawumia’s flagbearership.

Netizens call out Akufo-Addo for allowing his daughter ‘disrespect’ national anthem

There have been allegations that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was present and did not intervene when his daughter, Edwina Nana Dokua Akufo-Addo, allegedly showed disrespect towards Ghana’s national anthem during a public event.

The incident, captured on a video that has since become viral on social media, reportedly took place during the 30th-anniversary commemoration of the passing of President Akufo-Addo’s late wife and Edwina’s mother, Mrs. Eleanor Akufo-Addo.

The video shows Edwina seated beside her father talking away on phone while the master of ceremony of the event announced the observation of the national anthem and thus called on the gathering to stand in line with protocol.

While she stood to observe national anthem, the first daughter of the president continued talking on her phone until midway through the anthem when she dropped the phone in her handbag and stood attention for the remainder of the anthem.

The video has attracted several reactions across social media with some users accusing the president of being nonchalant about his daughter’s conduct.

Coming at a time when the president has recently lashed out at a chief publicly for failing to stand for the national anthem, President Akufo-Addo is being accused by his critics of being hypocritical and failing to hold his family to his own standard.

“Nana Addo thought he and family are better than the rest of Ghanaians,” a Twitter user @AbdulaiMuniru wrote.

“And yet, he was really angry at the chief when he was not able to stand for the same anthem. Ghana we dey” @Twenty4Greg also wrote.

On Friday, June 9, 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was captured flying into a rage at a public ceremony.

The president, during a ceremony at the Green Ghana Day event held at the University of Ghana, was captured reacting furiously and instructing the Greater Accra Regional Minister to take some action.

Inaudible for the most part of his rage, President Akufo-Addo is heard telling the regional minister to “go and tell him…, stand up…”

It emerged that the president’s action was incited by the failure of Nii Torgbor Obodai Ampaw, the chief of Mempeasem to stand for the national anthem.

The chief in a later statement apologised to the president while noting that his refusal to stand for the anthem was the result of ill health and the effect of a medication.

Nii Torgbor in his statement added that he subsequently took an active part in the event including standing for the national anthem when it was played later following the president’s outburst in spite of his health challenge.

7.2 earthquake occurs off the coast of southern Alaska

An earthquake of magnitude 7.2 that occurred late on Saturday off the coast of Alaska has prompted the publication of a tsunami warning, according to authorities.

The US Tsunami Warning Centre reports that the earthquake occurred on Saturday night at 2:48 a.m. ET at a depth of 13 miles offshore, approximately 55 miles southwest of Sand Point, Alaska.

From Unimak Pass to Kennedy Entrance, Alaska saw a brief tsunami warning following the earthquake, which was later changed to a tsunami advisory. The advisory stated that there is no tsunami concern for other Pacific coasts in the US and Canada.

The Alaska Volcano Observatory provided a threat notice for the Shishaldin volcano after it sent up a plume of ash earlier Saturday, according to a social media post.

There is a “watch” currently in effect for the Shishaldin volcano. According to the observatory, seismic tremor aptitudes began to increase at around 5 p.m. local.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

  • Netanyahu hospitalised in Israel over heat wave and likely dehydrated

Netanyahu hospitalised in Israel over heat wave and likely dehydrated

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, was reportedly hospitalised on Saturday due to suspected dehydration as sweltering heat gripped the nation.

According to a statement from his office, Netanyahu’s initial tests “came out normal” and he seems to be in “good condition.”

He was admitted to the Ramat Gan, a Tel Aviv suburb, Sheba Medical Centre on Saturday.

Netanyahu reportedly complained of “mild dizziness” prior to his hospitalisation, according to the statement given to CNN.

“On the recommendation of the doctors, the prime minister continues to undergo additional routine tests.” His office later said Netanyahu would stay at the hospital overnight for observation.

The Prime Minister released a video statement later Saturday suggesting he was dehydrated and advising people to drink more water.

“Yesterday, I spent time with my wife in the Sea of Galilee, in the sun, without a hat, without water. Not a good idea,” Netanyahu said, “So first of all I want to thank all of you for your concern and also to the excellent teams here at Sheba who examined me.

“Thank God, I feel very well, but I have only one request from you: we are going through a heat wave in the country, so I ask you, be less in the sun and drink more water and let us all have a good week.”

A statement from Netanyahu’s office said he was expected to be discharged Sunday.

“This morning, Prime Minister Netanyahu continued to undergo tests at the Sheba Medical Center. The tests are normal, his condition is very good and he is expected to be released later today,” the statement read.

Temperatures in Israel have been reaching the mid-30s Celsius (low 90s Fahrenheit) for several days and are expected to continue at that level for the next week, the Israel Meteorological Service said.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid wished Netanyahu “a complete recovery and good health” in a tweet.

Israel currently does not have an acting prime minister, meaning that if Netanyahu is incapacitated, the cabinet would have to meet to elect an acting prime minister.

Justice Minister Yariv Levin is deputy prime minister, but under Israel’s Basic Laws, acting prime minister is a separate role, meaning Levin would not automatically take over if Netanyahu is incapacitated.

There is no indication at the moment that Netanyahu is incapacitated.

A cabinet meeting set for Sunday has been postponed to Monday, the leader’s office said.

Netanyahu, 73, is the leader of Israel’s center-right Likud Party and has been the dominant figure in Israeli politics for nearly three decades.

In June 2021, he lost office for the first time in 12 years after rival Naftali Bennett won a parliamentary vote to form a government.

Eighteen months later, he was once again sworn in as prime minister in a dramatic return, cobbling together a coalition.

During Yom Kippur in October 2022, Netanyahu took ill while visiting a synagogue.

He was admitted to hospital where he stayed overnight before being released.

In a collaborative effort with Stop TB Partnership Ghana and several Civil Society organizations (CSOs), the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, took a significant step by launching the restructuring of the Parliamentary TB Caucus on Friday, July 14. The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance and amplify the ongoing fight against Tuberculosis (TB) across the nation. By working together, the aim is to intensify efforts and make substantial progress in combatting this infectious disease.

The Parliamentary TB Caucus will assume a crucial role in advocating for increased resource allocation and championing TB-related matters on the floor of Parliament, thus supporting the fight against TB in Ghana. Additionally, Mr. Asiamah charged the leadership of the Committee to ensure the President’s attendance at the upcoming United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB.

He emphasized the importance of representation from civil society, the TB Caucus, and the TB Programme within the Ghanaian delegation.

He also expressed their commitment to promoting Ghana’s participation in the UN High-Level Meeting on TB and encouraging political parties to include the TB agenda in their manifestos.

Mr. Ernest Ortsin, President of Ghana HIV and AIDS Network (GHANET), emphasized the need for increased advocacy in Parliament to achieve the goal of ending TB in Ghana by 2030. Mr. Jerry Amoah-Larbi, Chief Executive Officer at Ghana National TB Voice Network, urged stakeholders to ensure access to new TB drugs and promote research to bring an end to the TB epidemic in Ghana.

Deputy Majority Whip raises concerns over Parliament’s decision to investigate leaked Dampare Audio

In a significant development, Habibu Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tolon and Deputy Majority Whip, has voiced skepticism regarding the efficacy of the parliamentary committee formed by Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin. The committee’s purpose is to conduct an investigation into a leaked audio recording, purportedly disclosing a scheme to oust Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. Iddrisu’s doubts add a new layer of complexity to the ongoing controversy.

In a discussion on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, Habibu Iddrisu criticized the decision to involve Parliament in the matter, stating that there are more appropriate agencies equipped to handle such investigations.

Habibu Iddrisu stated, “If that committee is set up and Parliament finishes its work then what? There are agencies that are equipped to handle this tape, not Parliament. From where I sit, I don’t see where it is going, it is just the politics we are seeing. This committee the speaker has formed, I don’t see where it will go. I don’t think Parliament was the right forum for this to be done. There is more to it than we have heard.”

On Thursday, July 13, Speaker Alban Bagbin ordered the formation of a seven-member committee to probe the leaked audio recording, which allegedly involves individuals plotting the removal of IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. The committee will consist of three members from each side of the House, along with one technical expert. The Speaker directed that the names of the three members from the Majority and Minority caucuses be announced within one week.

  • NADMO labels illegal mining as major cause of floods in Tarkwa Nsuaem

NADMO labels illegal mining as major cause of floods in Tarkwa Nsuaem

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has linked the recurring floods in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality to the actions of illegal mining within river channels.

About fifteen communities within the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipalities were affected by heavy floods after a one-week continuous rainfall.

Some of the affected areas include Aglika, Nsuaem, Simpa, Bonsa, Bonsawire, Esuoso, Benso, Jerusalem, Efuanta, Kyekyerewere, Nkwanta, New Takyiman, and Adiyie among others.

Some of these communities got flooded for more than a week leaving several people homeless, loss of properties, and buildings collapsing among others.

In all Over 472 households made up of 974 victims, including children and adults were affected in ten communities assessed by NADMO so far.

Speaking to GhanaWeb in an interview, the NADMO Director for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Francis Amoah, noted that although every part of the country experienced the rainfall, the impact in Tarkwa was massive, describing it as overwhelming.

“The rainfall was so heavy that most of these communities flooded for days.
And because of the seriousness of the flood, we could get closer to them because there was no way to do that, so we had to wait for the flood to subside before we could do that,” he said.

“As we speak, we are still moving to the various communities to assess the situation and to see the kind of support we can give them. We are left with few communities to visit,” he added.

Although the rainfall affected every part of the country, Mr Amoah said “For the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, we were terribly affected.”

He attributed this to the activities of illegal mining on the Bonsa River which is a major river in the municipality. He explained that the illegal activities on the river have widened the river boundary causing it to expand.

“Some of these activities have diverted the watercourse, allowing it to flow freely in a different direction, which in the end floods people’s homes,” he stated.

He gave an instance at Esuoso where the illegal miners have heaped silt under the bridge on the Esuoso River, which has diverted the course of the river.
The Municipal Director of NADMO again said even when the river had overflown its banks, the illegal miners were undertaking their illegal activities on the river with the help of canoes.

He urged community members who stay close to the river bodies to relocate to higher grounds so that in case of anything like this, they will not be affected.
He also appealed to regulatory bodies to enforce the laws on small-scale mining to avert any possible effect of flood within the municipality.

Franklin Cudjoe praises IGP as one of Akufo-Addo’s best appointees

Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has been lauded as one of the “limited outstanding” appointments made by President Akufo-Addo, according to Franklin Cudjoe, the founding President and CEO of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education.

In a Facebook post, Cudjoe called on the President to disregard those conspiring to remove the police chief due to his professionalism.

He wrote, “Mr. President, ignore those treasonable elements planning to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Much as we at IMANI would have wished the power to appoint the IGP should be taken away from your office and vested in a police electoral college, we say without equivocation that the current IGP is one of the very few excellent appointments you have made in seven years.”

Cudjoe’s post continued, emphasizing the potential consequences of removing the IGP: “Remove the IGP, and you would have lent credence to the ignoble and infamous sagas of your penchant for throwing good men and women to political hounds on a whim. May this not be part of your enduring legacy.”

Sulemana Braimah, the head of the Media Foundation for West Africa, also expressed support for the IGP in a statement. Braimah highlighted the unprecedented public backing the IGP has received, suggesting that Ghanaians recognize and appreciate his leadership abilities.

He stated, “It is not for nothing that for the first time, we are witnessing overwhelming public support for an IGP. The Ghanaian people know true leadership when they see and experience one. For once, let’s leave the partisanship and hatred and support Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to continue with his exceptional effort and leadership to build the Ghana Police Service we want and deserve as a nation.”

  • Okraku Mantey takes bold step towards securing Ayesuano seat for NPP

Okraku Mantey takes bold step towards securing Ayesuano seat for NPP

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has obtained nomination forms to participate in the parliamentary primary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayensuano Constituency located in the Eastern region.

The decision brings finality to years of rumour that Okraku-Mantey was eyeing the seat.

The NPP lost the Ayensuano parliamentary seat to the NDC in 2020 when then incumbent Member of Parliament Ayeh Paye was defeated by current MP of opposition National Democratic Congress, (NDC) Addy Saforo Teddy, by 19,221(47.31) votes against 18,970 (46.71%).

However, speaking to journalists after picking the nomination form in the Constituency office of the party, Mark Okraku-Mantey was hopeful he will snatch the seat back for the NPP.

The founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Slip Entertainment, admitted that apathy and complacency affected the party in the constituency, hence the loss of the seat by the NPP.

He has promised to unify the party at the grassroots level for the party to regain its popularity to win the seat.

Mark Okraku-Mantey thus urged the party members to work tirelessly devoid of parochial interest to build the party to the ‘Breaking the 8’ agenda.

He also touched on development of human capital through education and job creation using tourism.

“It has a lot to do with leadership. The people we know can influence how we can also develop ourselves and other people, especially in education. If we get the majority of our people educated the people will end up developing the environment themselves. So, knowing where I am now as the deputy minister of tourism, culture and creative arts, the people I know in the business fraternity before I became a minister and the world at large, if I put all my resources together, I can help, make Ayensuano a better place. I can help with capacity building, human resources and then development. So, I’m here to help, build the people who made me who I am today”.

He explained that “When it comes to the youth, I’m not sure anybody can drive the youth more than me as an entertainer. So I’m going to use that to drive the youth to all come together and fight for the seat. This is a traditional NPP seat, we just need to make a little effort and with leadership from the top and the people from the grass root, if we believe in ourselves that we are going to do it, why not, leadership can make it happen”.

    Kenya president ‘bans’ opposition protests

In a strong warning to the opposition, Kenya‘s President William Ruto has said “protests will no longer take place in our nation. The one they have planned for Wednesday will not be possible.”

He was speaking to supporters in Naivasha, central Kenya, two days after at least 10 people died during clashes between protesters and security forces.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has launched a series of demonstrations against tax rises, including the doubling of the tax on fuel, that were signed into law last month.

“Elections ended on 9 August last year. You cannot look for the leadership of this country using the blood of the citizens, the death of the citizens and the destruction of property,” Mr Ruto said .

“These demos will not happen. Listen to me carefully: you cannot use extrajudicial, extra-constitutional means to look for power in Kenya.”

Mr Odinga had earlier said that next week will see three more days of protests beginning on Wednesday.

According to the constitution, people organising protests must inform the authorities of their intentions, but the president does not have the power to ban demonstrations.

  • 12 GES officials implicated on over GHS 1m procurement breaches

12 GES officials implicated on over GHS 1m procurement breaches

Prosecution awaits the management of 12 Ghana Education Service (GES) offices located in six regions, as they are accused of committing procurement breaches totaling GHS 1,028,700.91.

The implicated offices encompass various districts and municipalities across different regions of Ghana, including Tema, Ledzokuku, and Ga Central in Greater Accra; Abuakwa North in Eastern; Tumu in Upper West; Hohoe in Volta; Sefwi Juaboso, Aowin, and Sefwi Akontobra in Western North; as well as Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, Twifo Praso, and Hemang in the Central Region.

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, Dr James Klutse Avedzi, referred them to the Attorney General’s Office yesterday in Accra at the committee’s sitting.

The Committee is seeking answers to infractions in the Report of the Auditor-General on the Public Accounts of Ghana – Ministries, Departments and other Agencies for the year ended December 31, 2021.

The report said the 12 offices violated Section 20 of the Public Procurement (Amendment) Act, 2016 (Act 914) which requires procurement entities to request quotations from as many suppliers or contractors as practicable, but from at least three different sources.

These sources should not be related in terms of ownership, shareholding or directorship and the principles of conflict of interest shall apply between the procurement entities and their members and the different price quotation sources.

In line with the committee’s approach to non-competitive procurement, Dr Avedzi asked the management of the affected institutions to explain themselves to the Attorney-General’s office or the judge that would preside over their respective cases.

“Whatever excuses you have, package them nicely and give it to the judge, he might set you free,” he said.

Earlier, the committee upheld a recommendation in the AG report that a retired Eastern Regional Manager of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Stephen Okpoti Mensah, should pay for an official vehicle which went missing under his care.

Per the report, the official vehicle with registration number GC 7923- 12 which was parked at the retired Regional Director’s official residence (SSNIT Flat Estate) was stolen in March 2019 while he was outside the country.

It said although the matter had since been reported to the police, it was a violation of Section 52 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) which required him to ensure a proper control system existed for custody and management of the assets.

The committee rejected the excuse that the theft case was being investigated by the police because after five years if no headway had been made, the retiree should take responsibility for the negligence that led to the theft of the vehicle.

The committee was of the view that he should have left the vehicle at the office, where there was security, before travelling, and that if every official is not held accountable for what happened to state property in their care, they would be mismanaged.

The unexpected nature of these revelations has sparked intense discussions as people try to grasp the complexities of this situation.

In the actor’s memoir which he released on his 50th birthday, one chapter was dedicated to how he flirted with various women, looked at others lustfully, and even led others on.

Adjetey Anang, in an interview on GTV Breakfast Show disclosed that these inappropriate behaviours never got physical with the women.

In a video, the actor further explained the details of his cheating escapades, detailing that he never had sexual intercourse with any other woman apart from his wife. He added that these incidents did not happen in the dating stages with his wife, but a few years into the marriage, he found himself lusting after other women.

“An when I say cheating… for the most part, people think… we conclude that there were sexual affairs. Even the good book tells that, when a woman walks and you look at them lustfully, in your mind, you have sinned, that’s cheating. There is emotional, there’s mental, and the physical as well.” He stated.

He further expatiated “So in my bid to explain, that covers a whole spectrum, of ‘I hug you for example’ and my mind is like…I am thinking lustfully of you, that’s cheating. You can’t limit it, otherwise, we get away with some things.

“…that thought should run through me with only my partner… no no no, I may not going to say that I slept with anybody. In my thought processing, that is where cheating happens.”

Additionally, he explained that he was intentional about how his book was written and its details to prevent himself from getting misconstrued by the media.

Find out more about the Ghanaian with 12 fingers and no nails

In the Volta Region, a 22-year-old young man, born with an extraordinary total of twelve fingers, evenly distributed with six on each hand, as well as possessing both male and female reproductive organs, has bravely come forward to share his experiences, shedding light on the immense challenges and isolation he has faced throughout his journey of comprehending and accepting his unique natural composition.

Speaking in an interview with Fantse YouTuber, Half Plot as he is popularly known, recounted his early experiences revealing that as a child, some expatriates expressed interest in taking him away to find a solution to his disorder.

At the time, his father who had disowned him refused to sign necessary documents hence the opportunity was lost.

He instead remained with his grandparents, who offered him the support he needed during his formative years.

“When I was young, some white people came for me, and they wanted to take me away so my father has to sign before they can take me away, but because he doesn’t want to associate with me, he didn’t come, so my grandparents said I should remain as I am.”

He explained that as he grew older, he gradually discovered that his feet had five toes contrary to his mother’s initial claim that like with his fingers he had extra toes.

“I am 22 years, for my feet, my mother used to tell me that it was six but as I grew up I realized they were five.”

However, his physical attributes extended beyond his fingers and toes.

With respect to the reporductive organs, he has both male and female genitalia present. He explained that he faced daily challenges that affected his self-esteem, relationships, and prospects for employment.

“I have two things together, the vagina and penis, the vagina is flat there and the penis is on top, I urinate through the penis, but for the vagina, it is there but there’s no hole in it.

“With my current make up, I feel bad going into a relationship because maybe they might run away from me when they see how I am. Initially, I didn’t want to do that because I felt I will become somebody after school … but right now that I want to go into relationships, I am feeling shy to go and talk to them.”

According to Half Plot, despite having completed secondary school, his aspirations of furthering his education have been thwarted by financial constraints.

“I come from the Volta Region but for now, I am in Adansi Praso, my mother accepted me but for my father, he didn’t want to come close to me. …I did General Arts in Secondary school, I wanted to further my education but my mother said she doesn’t have money.”

He also recounted facing discrimination and rejection during job searches as employers were hesitant to hire him due to his physical appearance.

“ …I am old and I need to work but employers see how I look and they don’t want to help me. So, I am pleading with those that are watching to assist me in any anyway possible to help me overcome this feeling of being entirely different.

He then stated that he admires popular Ghanaian personalities, Nana Ama Mcbrown and Kojo Nkansah Lilwin, and aspires to follow in their footsteps.

“One thing I want in life Is to meet Nana Ama Mcbrown and Kojo Nkansah Lilwin, I want to be like them.”

  • Declan Rice’s departure from West Ham confirmed ahead of transfer to Arsenal

Declan Rice’s departure from West Ham confirmed ahead of transfer to Arsenal

Declan Rice’s departure from West Ham has been officially announced, and he will soon join Arsenal in a British transfer record.

Following the historic Europa Conference League victory last season, the England international made it plain that he wanted to leave the Hammers.

The 24-year-old was Mikel Arteta’s top summer target, and after protracted discussions that nearly fell apart due to rival interest from Manchester City, the Gunners are finally close to landing their man.

The decision to let Rice depart has been a difficult one for all at the east London club, but a £105million cash injection will go some way to sweetening the deal and allow manager David Moyes the opportunity to strengthen his own squad.

In a statement confirming Rice’s imminent departure, Joint-Chair David Sullivan said: ‘I am sorry to see Declan leave us, but I believe that everyone at West Ham United should be very proud of the part we have played in his journey from the Academy of Football at Chadwell Heath to becoming the most valuable young player in English football.

‘I would like to make it clear to our supporters that we did not want to sell Declan. We wanted to build our team around him and made a series of improved, long-term contract offers to secure his future. However, once Declan made it clear that he wished to move on and seek a new challenge, the Club felt it would not be right to stand in his way, acting in the best interests of West Ham United.

‘He leaves with the sincere thanks, respect and love of everyone here, having earned his place in history alongside the great Bobby Moore and Billy Bonds as the only players to have captained West Ham United to a major trophy. More than that, he has always given absolutely everything for the football club throughout his time with us.

‘Declan will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Hammers fans and everyone here at the Club. We wish him well for the future and he will always be an inspiration and an example to any young player coming through our Academy.’

Moyes added: ‘I’d like to personally thank Declan for everything he has done during his time at West Ham United. Obviously it is sad when we say goodbye to someone who has been with us for so long but we must now look forward.

‘West Ham United is a huge Club and, as history shows, no player is ever bigger than the Club.

‘Our entire focus now is on building upon the success we enjoyed last season, adding to our talented UEFA Europa Conference League title winning squad as we enter our third consecutive season in Europe, and continuing to develop the best young talent through our successful Academy.’

I don’t regard it – Sefa Kayi dismisses leaked Dampare tape

Ace Broadcaster, Kwami Sefa Kayi, has responded to the leaked audio recording involving a purported conversation between a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a police commander discussing the removal of Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

In response to the audio recording that has been widely circulated on both mainstream and social media, Kwami Sefa Kayi expressed his lack of consideration for the tape, citing his need to ascertain its source before forming an opinion.

The media personality who was interacting with guests on the Kokrokoo morning show on Tuesday, July 12, 2023, further added that like a number of Ghanaians, he doesn’t know the content of the leaked tape on Dampare.

“With the greatest respect, you know that I don’t put a premium on these kinds of tapes. Like you, I haven’t listened to it. Anybody I have asked about the audio says one thing or the other. Moreover, the one question I still don’t have an answer to is ‘where is it coming from?’ Who started it? And nobody seems to know,” Sefa Kayi said on the Tuesday edition of Kokrokoo.

A leaked audio recording, allegedly involving a Police Commissioner and a politician discussing a plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, emerged on Monday, July 11, 2023.

The recording features an officer who identifies himself as “Mensah” and a politician who is reportedly a regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Their conversation revolves around plans to remove the IGP from office due to fears that he would be too firm during the 2024 elections and prevent any potential rigging.

The Commissioner of Police also specifically identifies the IGP’s handling of the Assin North by-election as evidence of his commitment to ensuring free and fair elections.

  • Sonnie Badu urges Ghanaians to project their country in a positive way like Nigerians

Sonnie Badu urges Ghanaians to project their country in a positive way like Nigerians

Ghanaian gospel singer based in the UK Sonnie Badu, in an appeal to Ghanaians, has requested that his fellow countrymen promote Ghana in a positive manner, similar to the neighboring country of Nigeria.

This plea comes in response to the reactions sparked by remarks made by Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, the founder of Perez Chapel International, regarding Nogokpo in the Volta region.

Archbishop Agyinasare recently referred to Nogokpo as the “demonic” headquarters of the Volta Region while delivering a sermon at his church.

The Bishop later clarified that his comments were not intended to disrespect any specific town or its residents. He explained that his remarks were meant to illustrate the principle of divine protection to his congregants.

    But his explanations were rejected.

However, speaking on Prime Morning, Joy Prime’s morning show, Sonnie Badu indicated that the issue has been dragged too far, especially with the reaction from leaders of the community.

He feels Archbishop Agyinasare has greatly contributed to promoting Ghana internationally; therefore, he does not deserve to be treated badly by the populace.

According to the gospel singer, these characteristics project negativity and may damage the nation’s reputation.

“I’m more concerned about preserving the integrity of Ghana. I’m a proud Ghanaian, and I want the world to hear about Ghana in a positive way and not the everyday people wake up and insult… Unlike Bishop Agyinasare, he’s done so much for Ghana… I don’t think he will make that statement ever again, but I think it’s been dragged so far. So, I just pray and still plead that let’s project Ghana in a positive way like what Nigerians are doing,” he pleaded on Friday.

He said Bishop Agyinasare meant well with his comments and therefore pleads with the community elders to let sleeping dogs lie in order to promote Ghana positively.

Pastor, 3 others jailed for 7 days

The Bolgatanga District Court has handed down a sentence of seven days’ imprisonment to the Head Pastor of the Jesus Spanner Miracle Church in the Bongo District, Atogpeelige Akongyaane, and three other church members.

Joining the pastor in this ruling are Zacchaeus Ayamga, Robert Aberinga Akugre, and Daniel Ayeliga Ageekilingo, all of whom have been ordered to pay a fine of GH¢2,400 each.

Notably, Veronica Ayamga and Mary Akonyane, the mother of the baby involved, were exempted from imprisonment due to their status as nursing mothers but were still required to pay the same fine of GH¢2,400 each.

They were found guilty of two counts of physical abuse and abetment of crime, to wit, physical abuse of a child under two months contrary to the criminal offences Act 1960 (Act 29) and Domestic Violence Act of 2007 (Act 732) and the court presided over Mawukoenya Nutekpor sentenced them last Monday.

    Facts

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecution led by Inspector Baliki Amidu Issaka, were that the complainant in the case was the regional police command while the accused persons were natives of Balungu and Zorko in the Bongo District.

He noted that the regional police command intercepted a viral video on social media in which the accused persons were seen gathered in a church and Veronica was holding an infant tossing and throwing him about in a dangerous and injurious manner.

He stated that based upon a directive from the regional police command, the accused persons were located and arrested for interrogation.

Subsequently, on July 7, 2023, they were arrested and upon interrogation they admitted the offences in their caution statements but stated that they could not challenge the ‘holy spirit’ that possessed Veronica.

The Prosecutor said around 12:00 p.m. on February 5, 2023, Veronica and Atogpeelige were holding the victim’s naming ceremony in the said church. During singing, praises and worship, Veronica was possessed and took charge of the victim from Akogyaane on the pretext that the Holy Spirit entered her and that she was protecting the baby from any evil attack that may attempt to take hold of him.

    Process

He noted that in the process, Veronica started abusing the baby by throwing and swinging him up and down in a dangerous manner while the other accused persons were busy encouraging her by clapping and singing.

The video of the incident went viral on social media about a week ago which led to their arrest and subsequent charge

  • Ons Jabeur poised to make tennis history, but carrying weight of Africa at Wimbledon finals

Ons Jabeur poised to make tennis history, but carrying weight of Africa at Wimbledon finals

It’s one thing to carry a nation’s burdens on your back. It is a whole continent to Ons Jabeur.

The Tunisian pioneer made history at Wimbledon last year by becoming the first African and Arab woman to play in a Grand Slam final during the Open Era.

Elena Rybakina battled back fiercely to deny Jabeur her first major championship after she had won the opening set and appeared to be on the point of making further history.

It was fitting, then, that Jabeur would meet Rybakina at Wimbledon again this year, getting revenge in the last eight before booking her place in Saturday’s final.

That has allowed Jabeur to have a second shot of writing her name in the history books as she bids to become Africa’s first Grand Slam women’s singles champion.

Not only that, but if she does lift the trophy at this year’s Championships, Jabeur will also become the first Arab Grand Slam winner across both men’s and women’s tennis.

‘For me there is one goal: I’m going for it,’ Jabeur said. ‘I will prepare 100% per cent. Hopefully I can make history not just for Tunisia, but for Africa.’

Jabeur, the highest-ranked African and Arab tennis player in WTA and ATP rankings history, is not only loved in Africa and Tunisia though.

The 28-year-old sixth-seed, dubbed the ‘Minister of Happiness’, has become a fan favourite across the globe and is adored by the Wimbledon crowds for her ability and grace on the court as well as her shining personality off it.

Jabeur has produced some stellar results on her way to Saturday’s final and she is the first woman to defeat three top 10 players at Wimbledon since Serena Williams 11 years ago.

Her impressive run in 2023 has seen her beat two-time champion Petra Kvitova in straight sets as well as comeback victories over both current champion Rybakina and world No.2 Aryna Sabalenka – the latter arguably the favourite for the title.

Jabeur’s popularity has soared even further since starring on Netflix tennis documentary Break Point but there is one player left standing in her way in SW19.

That woman is Czech world No.42 Marketa Vondrousova, who is looking to create her own history.

Vondrousova is attempting to become the first-ever unseeded Wimbledon champion in women’s singles and is already the second-lowest ranked player to reach the final of the tournament since the WTA rankings were introduced.

Like Jabeur, Vondrousova is seeking the first Grand Slam title of her career and has also played in big finals – with a runner-up finish at the French Open in 2019 before a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Vondrousova has normally found it more difficult on grass than Jabeur but has made tweaks to her game and everything has clicked for her this year with the 24-year-old beating four seeded players in a row on her way to the last four.

That run included a stunning victory over fourth-seed Jessica Pegula while in the semi-finals she eliminated Elina Svitolina – the player who knocked out world No.1 Iga Swiatek.

Vondrousova has the upper hand in recent battles against Jabeur, too, beating the North African at the Australian Open and Indian Wells this year.

Overall, Vondrousova and Jabeur have played each other six times and their head-to-head record is locked at 3-3 ahead of their Centre Court showdown.

Jabeur heads in as the heavy favourite due to her higher ranking, better suitability to grass courts and superior results at previous Wimbledon tournaments but Vondrousova has already proven that it would be foolish to write her off.

‘When I saw the draw, it wasn’t easy,’ Vondrousova said about her run to the final. ‘I was like, ‘Let’s try’ – I beat Kudermetova, Vekic. They are great on grass. I was like, ‘Okay, maybe, you know, I’ll get better and I can do something here’ – for me it’s really crazy this is happening. But I think anything can happen in tennis.’

It will be a fascinating encounter between two stars who are known for their drop shots and slices and Vondrousova has admitted that she sees being a left-handed player as as advantage against Jabeur, who plays with her right.

Whoever wins, Wimbledon chiefs can breathe a sigh of relief that there will not be a Russian or Belarusian women’s champion.

The All England Club banned players from those nations from last year’s Championships amid Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine and tournament organisers were concerned over the idea of the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, handing this year’s trophy to a Russian or Belarusian.

Belarus star Sabalenka crashed out in the last four, though, meaning the 2023 champion will be a Tunisian or a Czech, as Jabeur and Vondrousova look to come out on top in a women’s singles final that will be historic no matter the outcome.

Berekum in turmoil as Queen Mother exiles goats

The Berekum Traditional Area is in a state of perplexity after an official proclamation by Nana Kosua Ameahene II, the Queen Mother of the region, to expel goats from the jurisdiction.

Residents with goats have been given a two-week ultimatum to remove their animals from the township or risk having them slaughtered.

However, even before the ultimatum issued by the queen mother will elapse, some residents of Berekum on July 13, 2023, had their goats arrested by supposed palace taskforce members implementing the order.

These individuals according to residents go as far as breaking into pens to arrest goats. The act was purportedly carried out by some members of the Zongo community in the name of the palace, caused some elders of the Berekum Zongo to embark on a name redeeming exercise.

According to the elders, it was some unscrupulous persons bent on tarnishing the name of Berekum zongo who were taking advantage of the situation to engage in such a nefarious activity.

Speaking to Obra TV, a palace official confirmed that the decree is yet to come into force but emphasised that residents have two weeks to remove their goats from the jurisdiction as pronounced by the queen mother.

“Nananom are saying that the land of Berekum does not like goats and so all goats must be removed. As of now, nobody has been ordered to arrest goats, more so no one is permitted to arrest a goat which is kept in a pen. Maybe the person is preparing to remove the goat from the town,” an elder of the council told Obra TV in an interview.

He was followed by Faustina Korkor of the same school, who won a standing fan.

  • Mother sentenced to life in prison for poisoning 5-year-old son with anti depressants

Mother sentenced to life in prison for poisoning 5-year-old son with anti depressants

A’selfish’ mother who poisoned her five-year-old son with anti-depressants and killed him in an effort to ‘take him away’ from her ex has been sentenced to life in prison.

On New Year’s Eve of 2021, Claire Scanlon, 38, killed her son Dylan at their house in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

He had 64 bruises on his head, face, and torso when he was discovered, and a toxicology study showed that he had nine times the deadly dose of the drug in his system.

Scanlon claimed Dylan had fallen from the ladder to the attic and had been playing with the dog shortly before finding him unresponsive.

But she told staff at the Edenfield Hospital after being arrested and sectioned: ‘I killed my son.’

The court heard Scanlon had been left feeling ‘very angry and depressed’ following the ‘bitter’ breakdown of her relationship with her ex-partner and Dylan’s dad in 2020.

She left a string of ranting voicemails in the weeks before the killing, saying he had left her for another woman while she struggled to live ‘emotionally, practically and financially’ as a single mum.

On December 15, she warned: ‘I promise you, you won’t see him again. You’ll see. Bye. Go and enjoy your life.’

And in a final message left on December 30, she said: ‘You’re just showing all you want to do is act like me and Dyl weren’t in your life and crack on, make a new life with your new bird.

‘So you go and do that. I’ll solve it for you. Go and enjoy your new life with her.’

Scanlon was found guilty of murder following a trial at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court.

She refused to return to the dock to hear Mrs Justice Yip give her a life sentence with a minimum term of 18 years.

The judge told her: ‘Dylan was five when he died. He was an active, happy little boy. He had just started primary school and his teachers spoke warmly of him.

‘He was very much loved. This is a very sad case. You went from being a good mother who loved Dylan very much to murdering him.

‘You are the only person who knows exactly what happened, but you have not told the truth.

‘I am sure you gave Dylan a large overdose of your anti-depressants intending that he should die. There are unanswered questions about what you did.

‘You decided to take him away from everyone who loved him. That was a selfish decision to hurt those you were angry with. There was no suggestion you ever hurt Dylan before.

‘He was a young boy who depended on you completely, you abused the trust placed in you as his mother and primary carer. I am sure your intention was to kill.’

The court heard Scanlon had inherited Huntington’s disease from her mother, calling the diagnosis a ‘death sentence’.

Following her arrest police found a note saying ‘don’t let them see us, just cremate us’, which prosecutors suggested showed she had planned to die with him.

While the judge said this may have affected Scanlon’s behaviour, she said it was no excuse for murdering her son.

She said: ‘It must have been frightening and upsetting when you started to get symptoms and realised you had it – you described Huntington’s as a death sentence.

‘But as the jury found in their verdict, it does not explain or excuse killing Dylan.

‘Because of your Huntington’s disease, you may not have a long life. It may be that you spend the rest of your life in prison or a secure hospital.’

Dylan’s dad, Gary Keenan, read a moving victim impact statement, revealing his grief at never being able to see his son again.

He said: ‘Christmas was one of Dylan’s favourite times of the year.

‘He loved the lights, the sparkles and the presents. I had so many presents to give him, but his mum said I wasn’t allowed to see him.

‘So, they were still at my home in the hope I could give them to him when I saw him next – but that never happened.’

He added: ‘There will always be a massive hole in our hearts at the loss of Dylan, and we miss him every day.’

Following the case, Nicola Carter, senior crown prosecutor for North West CPS said: ‘Claire Scanlon’s role as a parent was to love and protect her son from harm, but she took the ultimate step to take her young son Dylan away from her ex-partner.

‘She initially told her family that a ladder had fallen on Dylan, then a short time later she told a paramedic that he had fallen down some steps. The truth was that she had deliberately poisoned and beaten him.

‘I would like to offer my sincere sympathies to Dylan’s loved ones including his grandfather, father and brother who gave evidence at the trial. They not only have to come to terms with his loss, but also the manner in which he died.’
