Actor Oboy Siki from Kumawood has made a shocking confession, saying he has not eaten his wife’s food for the past 15 years to prevent dying prematurely.
In an interview with Kofi TV, he said as men become more wealthy, their wives become potential threats who might work together to have them killed off prematurely so that their children could inherit their wealth.
Oboy Siki openly stated his opinion that men who pass away suddenly and have significant wealth do not do so due to natural causes, but rather because of their wives’ covertly evil intentions.
He admitted, “I haven’t eaten my wife’s food for the past 15 years. I know people might be angered by my statement, but the truth is, if she captures you, she will kill you. When a man prospers, his wife desires to eliminate him. I’m telling you the truth. As you flourish, your wife slowly poisons you; that’s how they are. So, I refrain from consuming my wife’s food.”
Furthermore, Oboy Siki emphasised his preference for a natural death rather than taking the risk of consuming his wife’s meals and potentially falling victim to her ulterior motives.
He continued, “I would rather die a natural death than wait for her to come and kill me… Haven’t you witnessed such cases before? I won’t go into details; you should consult elders who have experienced these situations in their marriages.”
The actor went on to assert that this phenomenon of wives gradually causing harm to their husbands once they amass wealth is a prevalent occurrence in marriages.
He urged individuals to seek confirmation from elders who have firsthand experience with such circumstances.
“The deaths of these men are not always natural; there are hidden evil intentions behind them. Women were created as helpers, and therefore, they are only around to assist and enjoy your wealth. Consequently, when the opportunity arises, they will attempt to seize your assets for the sake of their children.”
The concert will take place at 8 p.m. on July 7, 2023, in the park, which was just this week given its official commission. It will feature these and other talented performers.
Samini and Kofi Kinaata enthusiastically urged their followers to expect an unforgettable experience that will have an impact on them on Twitter.
During an interview on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio on Hitz FM, the duo confirmed their participation in the show and expressed their excitement about the upcoming event, emphasising that it will be a night to remember.
They also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, pledging to honour his legacy through their exceptional performances.
Samini, who regards the concert as a family affair due to his mentorship of Kofi Kinaata, shared his sentiments on Instagram.
On the other hand, Kofi Kinaata, well-known for his songwriting prowess, encouraged his fans to attend the event in large numbers, announcing, “This Friday at the new Kwame
Deborah Freeman has resigned as the General Secretary of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).
In her letter of resignation, dated July 5, 2023, Madam Freeman—who is also a candidate for president in the upcoming elections of MUSIGA—highlights her 23 years of service to the union in a variety of roles.
She previously served as the Central Regional Secretary for two terms, a member of the National Secretariat Staff, Diana Akiwumi’s personal assistant, and the General Secretary for two terms under Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour)’s administration.
She, however, notes that after working with the acting President, Bessa Simons for quite a while she has become “less and less satisfied with the work environment; not being so enabling; and the direction of current leadership, which does not serve the best interest of the Union and its members.”
She indicates that this makes it increasingly difficult to feel she is contributing enough.
“As General Secretary, I hold myself to the highest standards and my resignation is the right thing to do.
“I have not been happy about the fact that members’ socioeconomic interests are neglected and they are getting less that they deserve as membership benefits. Neither have I been happy about the high numbers of Musicians in the Country who do not subscribe to the Union, for obvious reason that they find the Union unattractive,” she writes.
According to her though she has been interested in helping solve some of the union’s problems, they keep getting worse due to poor leadership.
“I believe that a new work environment will enable me to better serve the interest of musicians, the music industry and the nation at large. I am willing to build an organization strong and flexible for the purpose of promoting and protecting the socioeconomic rights and interests of Musicians.”
She has also announced she is no longer going to contest for the position of the President in the union’s upcoming elections.
“Please accept this letter as official notice of withdrawal of my Candidature as Presidential Aspirant,” she stated.
A few weeks ago, the Acting President of MUSIGA, Bessa Simons cautioned members to be wary of other members who intend to form a new association.
He said MUSIGA members who are found dealing with the new union will be sanctioned.
Rapper Thorsten Owusu Gyimah popularly known as Yaw Tog has revealed he has no immediate plans to continue his education.
According to him, he does not currently have any plans to return to school because he does not have enough money saved.
“I am doing music, I’m working so that’s what I’m focused on. University does not pay, university won’t give me money to survive in life so I’ve planned my life that I have to make money before I go back to school. If I go back to school, how will I fend for myself and what money will I use to pay my fees?
“I’ve made plans on when I will be going to school but right now I’m gathering the money,” he said on Kumasi-based Hello FM.
The ‘Sore’ hitmaker acknowledging his parents’ efforts said that he does not want to burden them with school fees.
“Yeah everyone is supporting me. At my level, I cannot ask my old lady for money. I’m now the man of the house. It’s not like they have no control over me anymore but now I also contribute to take care of the family,” he said.
During his search for electronic waste products, a scrap dealer came across an unexpected find—a newborn baby girl.
The baby was found by the unidentified scrap dealer just before sunset on Thursday, July 06, 2023, while combing through the rubbish in search of valuables for his trade.
Residents of the Koforidua suburb of Anlo Town in the Eastern Region were thrown into a state of shock following the bizarre discovery in the popular refuse container next to a public toilet.
Assemblyman for the Anlo Town Electoral Area, Abu Amadu speaking in an interview said the scrap dealer narrated to him that he saw a young lady throwing a black polythene bag into the refuse container but did not suspect any foul play.
He continued that about an hour later, he stepped into the container in search of scraps only to notice a black polythene bag.
Upon opening it and to his shock, he found a newborn baby girl wrapped in the bag dead.
The shocked dealer then raised an alarm which drew the attention of nearby residents to the scene who subsequently reported the issue to him.
According to the Assemblyman, the scrap dealer could not identify the suspect since he did not reside in the area.
Mr. Amadu subsequently reported the discovery to the police at the Koforidua Central police station who arrived to inspect the dump site, finding inside the dead baby wrapped.
The remains of the deceased infant have since been conveyed to and deposited at the morgue of the Eastern Regional Hospital for preservation and autopsy as police commence investigations into the incident to arrest the perpetrator of the heinous crime.
A Deputy Education Minister, John Ntim Fordjour, has made it clear that there will be no inclusion of any aspect of LGBTQI+ practices in the educational curriculum of Ghana.
Speaking to Adom News correspondent Ohene Amponsah, the minister said the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has been working to achieve this objective.
Mr Fordjour noted that he and “his outfit have been cautious while working as watchdogs” to ensure they do not break this promise to the Ghanaian public.
John Ntim Fordjour said this after parliament deliberated on the Proper Sexual Human Rights & Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021 on Wednesday, July 5.
He stated that the bill will serve future generations well since the majority including religious leaders have accepted it.
On the likely diplomatic confrontations and the general effect on the country’s economic activities, the Deputy Education Minister said Ghana will not fall for pressure from the West to dismiss the bill.
Mr Fordjour added that he does not believe the West will follow through with their threats.
He added that “a disagreement on LGBTQ+ opinions is not a call for any war between two nations and thus if it affects any trade, Ghana will take their business elsewhere.”
The Deputy Education Minister is one of the eight MPs who sponsored the legislation through a private member’s bill.
Reverend Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Assin South, has expressed his firm stance that Ghanaians will never accept or condone the activities of the LGBTQ+ community.
Ntim Fordjour who is one of the proponents of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill insisted that LGBTQ+ activities are only sexual perversion and not a human right.
“Mr. Speaker, many have been said but same-sex marriage is abhorred by all cultures, all religions and the issue of LGBT and all the rights some people ascribe to, I dare say that LGBT is not a human right, it’s a sexual perversion. A sexual perversion that must not be condoned. It is not correct and must not be accepted. It is most absurd for one to be allowed to choose to sleep with a tree, to sleep with an animal or anything at all in the interest and under the guise of human rights. That’s not a human right, that is sexual perversion.
“Sex is assigned at birth and that is the context of gender we are talking about. There is no one that does not have X chromosomes as a woman or XY chromosomes as a man. There is no middle ground,” Ntim Fordjour said.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament during the second reading and debate of the proposed bill, Ntim Fordjour quoted Genesis 1:17-18 as the standard for how marriage and sexual intercourse should be (that is man is to woman).
“If there are some hormonal imbalances and certain attitudinal perversions which have put some people into stating certain obscene preferences, we are ready to support them to reorient in line with Genesis 1:17-18,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ntim Fordjour has questioned the basis of some diplomats describing Ghana as backward over the anti-LGBTQ+ bill currently pending in parliament.
In a social media post, the MP accused such critics of being biased in their criticism.
“I’ve taken notice of some diplomats and LGBTQ activists who are describing our decision to protect the sanctity and dignity of our people and values through the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill as “backwards in civilization and prosperity”. Would these diplomats and activists dare say same thing to Russia, China, Brunei, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait and Qatar? Are these countries backwards in civilization and prosperity? Definitely NOT!” he stated.
For a young, handsome, rich, famous and successful musician, everyone would expect that finding a partner or being in a relationship would not be a difficult task. However, Nigerian musician, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, has revealed that finding a lady to settle with has become a hard nut to crack.
In an interview on StarFM, the musician disclosed that he is struggling to be in a relationship because ladies no longer trust him.
Iyanya
He explained that this stems from cheating allegations peddled against him by a lot of ladies including Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson.
“I’m still single because it’s hard for anybody to believe what I say,” he said.
The actor on various occasions has been labelled as a cheat. It was all over the internet that he was dating Yvonne Nelson, however, the relationship ended abruptly due to claims by Yvonne that he had cheated on her.
The much-talked-about romance between the Kukere master, Iyanya, and Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, hit the rocks in 2015 after the pair began dating in July 2012 and were spotted together at several functions.
Yvonne made more revelations in her memoir “I am not Yvonne Nelson”, disclosing that the musician cheated on her with Nigerian actress Tonto Dikeh.
Although he made claims suggesting that Ms Nelson’s accusations were inaccurate, he did not categorical deny the claim. “Tonto Dike is Typing, Yvone Nelson Get ready,” tweeted.
What’s the name of the person who called her from my house ? After that question we will answer if her accusations are true or false and what really transpired. “LOVE & TRUST” https://t.co/TTFlfBiO9x
Also, taking to his Twitter handle, the singer wrote, “Y’all waiting for my side of the story? If I talk now, I’ll be accused of kissing and telling, sluts shaming, etc. But something gat to give, so wait for it.”
Iyanya, however, has disclosed that he is working on moving past this phase since that has been the setback to him being in a relationship.
“For someone like me, I’m trying to move past this phase of my life where every time I’m being called a cheat or I broke someone’s heart and that’s made it even a bit harder for me to be in a relationship,” he said.
Veteran Ghanaian actress Harriet Naa Akleh Okanteh, better known by her stage as Auntie Bee recently had a direct discussion in which she shared her opinions on relationships and marriage.
After the passing of her partner John Evans Kwadwo Bosompem, Santo, the actress who has been a widow for more than 20 years stated that she is open to finding love once more.
However, she was quick to add that she is not desperate to be loved up, but as and when the opportunity presents itself, she will grab it.
Asked in an interview on Accra FM what her spec is, Auntie Bee confidently revealed she is not one who scouts and selects potential partners based on specific criteria or preferences. Instead, she expressed her openness to anyone who shows genuine interest in her.
One trait she will not compromise, however, is sexual compatibility. Having lived and explored for many years, Auntie Bee said she wants a man who matches her high sexual energy.
“From day one to this very point at my age , if I say I have not explored, I’d be lying. I don’t double date or anything like that but I have experienced multiple men. So the lucky man should expect to meet a guru in the game,” she added.
While she acknowledged that finding the right person may be challenging, Auntie Bee remains optimistic and focused on her career for now.
Ghana’s prisons are grappling with severe overcrowding, as the current inmate population surpasses the established capacity of 10,265 by an alarming number of 4,972 individuals. This overflow amounts to a staggering congestion rate of approximately 48%, highlighting the pressing issue faced by the nation’s correctional facilities.
As of Wednesday, July 5, 2023, the prison population stood at 15,237, made up of 15,062 males and 175 females.
The Head of Public Relations of the Ghana Prisons Service (GPS), Chief Superintendent of Prisons, (CP) Vitalis Ayeh who disclosed this to the Ghanaian Times in Accra said the congestion was affecting the health and quality of life of inmates and called for the expansion of facilities across the country.
He said the establishment of a national prisons hospital to cater for the health needs of the over 15,000 inmates in the country’s prisons would be very helpful.
According to him, the absence of a dedicated hospital to handle the healthcare concerns of prisoners often left them at the mercy of the general public, leading to stigmatisation and exposure of the officers to security risk.
Mr Ayeh said although there were infirmaries at the prisons, such facilities could not handle major health cases and sick inmates had to be transferred to public hospitals for treatment.
“It is against this backdrop that the service is making a special appeal to the government to provide it with a hospital facility to cater for the health needs of inmates, officers, and their immediate families,” he emphasised.
This, he said would help expedite action on the treatment of the over 15,000 inmates who may need immediate healthcare while serving their sentences.
The PRO said 3,740 inmates were on remand between January and June this year as against 3,314 of the previous year in the same period.
“The prisons have put in place strategies such as case tracking system and introduction of courts at the prisons to ensure fast track cases of remand cases at the prisons,” he added.
He said from January to June this year, there were 3,740 inmates on remand in the country’s prisons nationwide as against 3,314 the previous year within the same period.
Chief Supt. Ayeh mentioned some of the offenses committed by the inmates as murder, defilement fraud, unlawful entry, murder, and rape.
He stated the major challenges facing the service were transportation, feeding, congestion and urged the stakeholders to partner the service to help them in their operations.
Mr. Ayeh also appealed to the government to increase their feeding allocation for the inmates, adding that they were still fed GH¢1.80 on three square meals daily since 2010.
Chief Supt. Ayeh said the Prisons Service supports the feeding of inmates through the cultivation of maize, cocoa, palm, vegetables, and others.
He assured the public of the Prisons Service’s continuous determination to ensure the safe custody of convicted persons, reformation, and rehabilitation for their successful resettlement into society.
Chief Supt. Ayeh stated that plans were far advanced to acquire lands in the Western North and Ashanti Regions as part of efforts to address the congestion and venture into agriculture at the country’s prisons.
Chief Supt. Ayeh urged the public to desist from stigmatising ex-convicts but assist in their reintegration.
He said the inmates were taken through vocational skills including carpentry, masonry, mechanic, and electronics among others.
“The service also provides skills for them in National Vocation Training Institute (NVTI), inmates have also sat and passed the Basic Education Certificate Examination among others,” he added.
Touching on the impact of COVID-19, he said it impacted on the service of their Internally Generated Fund.
“We did not relent in agriculture production, with support from government and other stakeholders providing us with tractors, we were able to increase production to supplement feeding,” he added.
Ex-husband of Ohemaa Mercy, Isaac Twum-Ampofo popularly called Ike made an unexpected appearance at the Tehilla Experience’s tenth-anniversary celebration.
Ike’s presence was not the only surprise; everyone was taken off guard by his appearance as well.
Ike now sported a completely different appearance that could easily cause him to go unnoticed. Previously, he was recognised for his short, faded haircut and clean-shaven face.

When popular Nigerian musician Iyanya was approached to create an endorsement video for Yvonne Nelson‘s book, he saw it as an opportunity to support the work of an ex-lover who is still a friend. Little did he know that there was a ‘little’ surprise in the book for him.
The singer born Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, has revealed that prior to actress Yvonne Nelson launching her book, she informed him about the decision, however, what she did not disclose was the role he was playing in the book.
“She buzzed [called] me and said she was launching her book and she needed an [endorsement] video for the book which I recorded for her. [But] I didn’t know I was in the book. I [recorded the video] because obviously we were cool. So when the book came out that’s how I knew I was in the book,” he said.
Prior to Yvonne Nelson launching the book, she had posted videos of friends and loved ones, including Medikal, Mercy Johnson, Obrafour, Reggie Rockstone, John Dumelo, etc giving good testimonies about herself and the book. Iyanya claims to have recorded the video, however, it cannot be found on Yvonne’s instagram page, like the others.
Speaking on how the news reached him, Inyanya who disclosed that he was initially hurt about the claims in the book about him, said he learnt about it from a doctor friend.
“I was sleeping and I just woke up to missed calls and all of that and then I called one of my doctor friends and he was like ‘No way! You’ve not seen the book.’ And that’s how I knew about it.
So I now called my guys and they said that yeah she [Yvonne] wrote a book and put my name in it,” he recalled. “At first I was hurt, I won’t lie about that,” he added.
Yvonne Nelson’s memoir dubbed ‘I am not Yvonne Nelson’ which was released on this year’s Father’s day, has become a subject of controversy following various claims in the book.
The book reveals so much about her life; her childhood, family, past relationships and encounters with people in the creative industry, politics and a whole lot.
She also made various shocking revelations in the book which included a claim that she committed an abortion after the father of the unborn child, a renowned Ghanaian rapper, born Michael Owusu Addo but popularly known as Sarkodie “rejected the pregnancy.”
Yvonne Nelson, Iyanya and Tontoh Dikeh
Other claims involved Iyanya himself who was accused of cheating on her [Yvonne Nelson] with famous Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh.
Iyanya attempted to fight back on Twitter with a question: “Isn’t this too much information?”
Sarkodie also released a song dubbed “Try Me” to address the claims made about him.

An inquiry has learned that the wealthy couple who were discovered dead at home in their recliners had the potent synthetic drug fentanyl in their systems.
On Easter Sunday earlier this year, Stephen and Carol Baxter were discovered unconscious in their West Mersea, Essex, home by their daughter.
Since their deaths were reported, police have initiated an investigation and made many arrests.
Although paramedics had been sent to the Baxter’s residence, the pair, who served as joint directors of the bath and shower mat company Cazsplash, unfortunately died there.
Their daughter, who was with her one-year-old son at the time, immediately suspected carbon monoxide poisoning and threw open the bi-fold doors at the property.
But it emerged this week that a post-mortem examination gave a provisional cause of death for Mrs Baxter, 64, as combined fentanyl and promethazine toxicity with terminal bronchopneumonia.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid which is similar to morphine but up to 100 times more potent.
It is a prescription drug that is also made and used illegally – often as a substitute for heroin.
An investigation has been launched by Essex Police, who yesterday said the deaths were initially treated as unexpected but not suspicious.

A spokesperson added: ‘As a result of an extensive investigation and toxicology analysis, two men and a woman were arrested in order to gain comprehensive accounts from them.
‘They remain in custody for questioning as other enquires are conducted.
‘We continue to remain open-minded as to how the couple died.’
At the inquest this week, the provisional cause of death for Mr Baxter, 61, was delivered as cardiomegaly and alcoholic liver disease with fentanyl intoxication.
Area Coroner Sean Horstead said: ‘On the basis of the information I am satisfied that this requires a full inquest.
‘At the written request of Essex Police, I will suspend the coronial investigation for four months.
‘That will run until Monday, November 6, 2023, no doubt there will be communication from Essex Police from the expiry of that date.
‘I offer my sincere condolences to the friends and family of [the Baxters] during this very difficult time for them.’
The couple founded Cazsplash, which sells corner and curved shower mats, in 2012.
Mrs Baxter had run the business since its inception, having also worked in adult education, while Mr Baxter worked for a real estate firm.
The duo were also both keen members of West Mersea Yacht Club, in Coast Road, which flew its flag at half mast following their deaths as a mark of respect.
Mersea resident John Akker told the Gazette it was a ‘shock to locals’, adding: ‘It is very sad news.’
Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage is one of the few artists bringing Afrobeats to a wider audience, has spoken candidly about the emotional struggles she faced before performing for King Charles at his coronation.
Behind the captivating and applaud-worthy performance that the world witnessed on the stage at Windsor Castle’s East Lawn was a plethora of emotions that kept her from her ultimate objective.
This was the first time an African was gracing the huge stage and all she could think of was how to impress and what could go wrong.
That notwithstanding, she revealed in an interview that after having a grasp of the microphone and the warm reception she received, it was only prudent to shake away the nervousness.
“I was nervous, I will say the first few seconds. But as soon as I started singing, I said, ‘I have to just get swept away by the crowd’.”
Tiwa started melodiously to sooth the souls of the thousands gathered before transitioning into her usual Afrobeat rhythm.
She incorporated elements of Yoruba language and dance into her performance which attracted applauses from the audiences.
In all, Tiwa’s performance was spectacular and in the days afterwards, she was still the cynosure of the star-studded event.
“It was beautiful [to perform for the King]. It was such an amazing moment to represent the Commonwealth and to be on that stage,” she said amid laughter.

It has been revealed that John Berylson, the owner and chairman of Millwall, passed away in the US after his automobile flipped and hit a tree.
In Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the American businessman was operating his Range Rover by himself when it veered off the road and fell into a gully.
Berylson, 70, had to be cut free from the car and was declared dead there, according to the local police.
Under Berylson’s leadership, Millwall established themselves as a Championship team, especially in recent years. Berylson joined the team in 2006.
Chief executive Steve Kavanagh paid tribute to Berylson’s ‘extraordinary and exemplary’ contribution on the club’s website.
He wrote: ‘John’s endless passion for Millwall was infectious. He was so incredibly dedicated to the club and year after year showed remarkable energy and drive to keep us progressing on and off the pitch.
‘There have been ups and downs, sure, but in my view many more of the former, and as we know John enjoyed nothing more than to light up a big cigar in celebration of a famous win, promotion, or other deserving achievement.
‘His regular visits to The Den became increasingly memorable as the support for him from the fan base grew further with every passing season.
‘He loved the time he would spend walking the perimeter of the stadium to speak to supporters, and his lap of honour before the final game of the season – in hindsight an even more profound moment now – was amazing to witness.
‘I feel so desperately sad for John’s family and our thoughts and prayers are with them at what is just such a devastatingly cruel time.’
Berylson is survived by his wife, Amy, and three children Jennifer, James and Elizabeth.
Millwall’s squad will remain in Spain for pre-season preparations, but will pay their respects to the late chairman at The Denon their return.
Millwall manager Gary Rowett said: ‘He would always ring me after games, he’d ring me a couple of times in the week just to ask how things were going.
‘The skill that John had was incredible, he’d always try to make you feel better if you’d lost a game or something had happened.
‘He’d always try to support and make it feel like there was a way out of it, there was a route out of it and there was a strategy to move forward. That showed his compassion, that showed his love for the club.
‘It’s so difficult to comprehend, for me certainly, Millwall without John Berylson, because he was the figurehead, he was the inspiration and just a tremendous, tremendous owner and chairman.’
Reports indicate that Johnny Depp, who previously said he felt betrayed by Disney behind Pirates of the Caribbean, may return for more movies.
“Anything is possible,” the Depp insider says. “If it’s the right project, he’ll do it.”
According to The New York Times, Disney is “seemingly inching the door open” to collaborating with Depp again, although the source didn’t specify whether the actor would return for another Pirates movie.
Buzz about a potential return to his role of Captain Jack Sparrow comes just over a year after Depp’s contentious defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. A seven-person jury reached a verdict that largely sided with Depp, though Heard, 37, won one of her three counterclaims.
Despite many fans’ hopes at the time, a rep for Depp told PEOPLE in June of last year that a report claiming the actor was returning to the Pirates franchise for over $300 million was “false.”
The saga’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer told U.K. outlet The Times in an interview published the previous month (while Depp was still in court for his defamation trial against Heard) that his team was working on “two Pirates scripts — one with [Margot Robbie], one without.”
As for Depp potentially being involved, Bruckheimer, 79, said, “Not at this point” but “the future is yet to be decided.”
While Hollywood insiders had conflicting views on whether Depp’s career would bounce back after the trial, a former Disney exec told PEOPLE at the time, “I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board. There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture.”
“With Jerry Bruckheimer riding high on the massive success of Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, there is huge appetite for bringing back bankable Hollywood stars in massively popular franchises,” the insider added.

Depp earned an Oscar nomination for playing Jack Sparrow in the original 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Its hit sequels came out in 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2017.
For now, Depp is set to direct the Al Pacino-starring biopic Modi, which will tell the story of 20th-century painter Amedeo Modigliani.
He also recently made an appearance at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival to promote his movie Jeanne du Barry in which he plays Louis XV, the king of France who ruled from September 1715 until his death in 1774, opposite director Maïwenn.
The French film received a seven-minute standing ovation, which the Depp source notes moved the actor to tears and “was incredibly welcoming.”
Baba Sadiq, the founder of 3Music Networks, has weighed in on Lasmid’s departure from Kaywa’s Highly Spiritual Music label.
Following Kaywa’s MTN Hitmaker win in 2019, he told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces that Kaywa’s deal with Lasmid was a bad move.
“It was also not a good one [deal] for Kaywa to opt for,” he said.
He, however, added that a lot of talents are harnessed in a similar manner – where the talent managers have faith in them, groom them till they make it.
“I think that he may have gone in for it based on a certain faith that he had in the artiste,” he noted.
Kaywa recently revealed he did not have a contract with Lasmid. At the time he wanted to officially sign him, Lasmid, through his Nigeria lawyer made some demands that he could not fulfil so they had to part ways.
Kaywa added that after taking a couple of years to push Lasmid’s craft, he luckily got his first hit, Friday Night which was his fourth song under the label.
It was after his second hit, Running that he decided to part ways with the label.
“If I begin to talk about what the investment is, you would know that we really went deep. Had a conversation with him and then we had to move to our next level. Then suddenly the conversation we had was sealed, was not written, but it was sealed with understanding both of us with evidence. Suddenly the narrative changes because now he’s become big and he’s been influenced by seeing people in our circle,” Kaywa told KMJ on Prime Morning.
Sadiq, on Joy Entertainment Unpacked on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, said issues like this have caused a lot of people to lose interest in investing in the creative industry.
“In the market here it is almost a thankless job because a lot of investors are not really looking into industry. Because some of them that even have access to cash will tell you that that $ 200,000 money they want to invest in you if he turns it around in a Forex, he’s probably going to make so much more within a short time,” he noted.
In the meantime, Kaywa has said in an interview on Hitz FM that even though he owns the masters of the songs he produced for his artistes, they can perform them.
The gospel recording artist, singer, and songwriter Diana Hamilton has released her first single of 2023 titled “Say Amen”.
Say Amen is born out of faith and belief in the things God says in His word. As children of God, Scripture urges us to walk by faith, not by sight. Therefore, we should not be moved by what we see.
In this song, Diana draws our attention to the power of our declarations and places a demand on the integrity of God that whatever we declare and decree by faith shall be established as the bible says in Job 22:28.
This song is timely and Diana believes it will take listeners on a faith journey in their daily walk with God. We pray that the song blesses you, molds your heart, transforms your mind and heightens your faith in God and the Holy Spirit.
Say Amen will be available for streaming and purchasing on all major music platforms from the 7th of July 2023, and includes Boomplay, YouTube, Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify and all music platforms.
Written by Diana Hamilton with inspiration from the Holy spirit, Say Amen is produced by the talented engineer, Samsney and mastered at the K MENS studio in Germany. Accompanying this song is a beautiful video shot and directed by Mcwillies of Flashbak Media.

The prohibition was announced today by the Ministry for the Prevention of Vice and the Propagation of Virtue, but a letter about it, dated June 24, has been making the rounds on social media.
The timeframe for closing women’s beauty salons is one month, according to spokesperson Mohammad Sadiq Akif.
Each salon is then required to file a report attesting to the fact that it has closed for business.
These places are usually female-only and have their windows covered so that customers cannot be seen from outside.
Despite the Taliban’s promise to implement a more moderate rule than when they were previously in power in the 1990s, the group is essentially barring women from public life.
Women are not allowed at parks, gyms, or public baths and their access to education has been suppressed with all universities for women ordered to close at the end of last year.
One woman, named only as Sahar for security reasons, said the salon ban takes away the final avenue women had for socialising safely outside of the family.
The Kabul local, who is used to getting her hair and nails done every few weeks, said: ‘Parks are not allowed for women so it was a good place for us to meet our friends.
‘It was a good reason to see each other, to meet other women, other girls to talk about issues.
‘Now I don’t know how to meet them, how to see them, how to talk to each other… I think it will be very impactful for us and women around Afghanistan.’
The Taliban’s measures have triggered a fierce international uproar, increasing the country’s isolation at a time when its economy has collapsed.
Western governments and major organisations have said the restrictions on women are essentially preventing the Taliban from getting any international recognition.
The administration says it respects women’s rights in accordance with its interpretation of Islamic law and Afghan customs.
The West has received a nuclear warning from Alexander Lukashenko weeks after his nation began receiving Russian tactical nuclear weapons.
Targets for strikes in the event of aggression have already been decided, according to the president of Belarus.
He declared: “We are not going to attack anyone with nuclear weapons” at a meeting with foreign reporters at his Minsk mansion.
You can forget about using nuclear weapons as long as you don’t hit us. However, the reaction will be immediate if you act aggressively. The goals have been selected.
His stark warning comes as Ukraine is still grappling with the ‘serious threat’ at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
Lukashenko, a close ally of Russian president Vladimir Putin, also gave an update about the whereabouts of Yevgeny Prigozhin.
‘As for Prigozhin, he is in St Petersburg. He is not on the territory of Belarus,’ he said.

Russia will hold illegal ‘elections’ in the occupied areas of Kherson Oblastin September, regional governer Yurii Sobolevskyi has confirmed.
The Ukrainian official cited the formation of a ‘Kherson Oblast election commission,’ set up by the Russian occupation authorities and urged locals not to take part in the process.
‘The occupiers set the dates of elections in the Kherson region — September 8, 9, 10. This was officially announced by the “head of the Kherson Region Election Commission” from the occupation authorities,’ he wrote on Telegram.
‘These actions have nothing to do with the election process and are absolutely illegal. Considering the way they already conducted the “referendum”, you can’t call it anything other than a circus and theater of the absurd.
‘I want to remind everyone that there will be responsibility for participating in the organization of this show. Each person will be held accountable.’
Russia’s central election commission also confirmed plans to hold illegal votes in the four partially-occupied Ukrainian oblasts of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk.
The sham vote, which is expected to take place on the same day as elections in Russian regions, shows the Kremlin’s desire to present the areas as integral parts of Russia, according to the U.K. Defense Ministry.
The UK government has named Martin Harris as its next ambassador to Ukraine, starting in September.
A longstanding diplomat, Harris previously served as the British ambassador to Romania between 2010-14 and has worked closely with HM goverment on diplomatic missions in both Moscow and Kyiv.
He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2010, and a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in 2023.
Outgoing ambassador to Kyiv, Melinda Simmons, who was appointed to the role in 2019, will take another diplomatic service appointment, the government said in a statement.
Ukraine plans to abandon conscription and move to a professional army after the war with Russia to bring Kyiv closer to NATO standards, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Thursday.
After a meeting with top defence and security officials at which reforms known as ‘the Ukrainian shield’ were discussed, Shmyhal said the government would also continue to focus on supporting a further increase in domestic weapons production.
‘The primary task is to complete the transition of the Security and Defence Forces of Ukraine to NATO standards. In all aspects: from equipment and weapons to planning and analysis,’ Shmyhal said on the Telegram messaging app.
‘After the end of the war, Ukraine will abandon the draft as it existed before the war. The foundation of our defence will be a professional army.’
The United States is expected to announce it will give cluster munitions to Ukraine for its fight against Russia’s invasion, the New York Times has reported, citing an unidentified senior Biden administration official.
Ukraine says it wants to use the explosives to clkear minefields andstrike at dug-in Russians, but Human Rights groups have criticised the move and say the unexploded bomblets are a threat to civilians.
Cluster munitions, banned by more than 120 countries, normally release large numbers of smaller bomblets that can kill indiscriminately over a wide area, threatening civilians.
A youngster who murdered his Spanish teacher with a baseball bat over a failing grade has been sentenced to life in prison.
In April, Willard Miller, then 17 years old, admitted to the ‘brutal’ murder of Nohema Graber in Fairfield, Iowa in 2021.
After she graded down his work, he and his classmate Jeremy Goodale, 18, attacked Ms. Graber on her routine afternoon stroll in Chautauqua Park.
Miller later told police he was frustrated with her way of teaching, saying her marks were pulling down his grade point average – a key score used in applications for colleges and scholarships.
He was sentenced to life in prison with a possibility of parole after 35 years. Goodale will be sentenced later.
The teen was also ordered to pay at least $150,000 (£117,000) in restitution to the victim’s family.
He told him: ‘I find that your intent and actions were sinister and evil. Those acts resulted in the intentional loss of human life in a brutal fashion.
‘There is no excuse.’
Before he was sentenced, Miller told the court he accepted responsibility for the killing and apologised to his victim’s family.
‘I would like to apologise for my actions, first and foremost to the family,’ he said. ‘I am sincerely sorry for the distress I have caused you and the devastation I have caused your family.’
Miller also apologised to the Fairfield community, his own family, Goodale’s family and the police.
‘I’m realizing just the magnitude of my actions, and I know it’s wrong and I knew it was wrong and yet I still carried through,’ he added. ‘I still did what I did, and I accept responsibility for that.’
Many of Ms Graber’s relatives either read or submitted victim impact statements describing her as kind, caring and devoted to her family, students and church.
Several also blamed Miller and Goodale for the recent death of her bereaved husband, who suffered from cancer but delayed treatment amid his depression over the murder.
‘I hope you open your soul to the lord and maybe ask for forgiveness there first because you’re on a spiral straight to hell,’ Ms Graber’s brother-in-law Jim said while staring at Miller.
A US congressman has stated that he agrees with a whistleblower who claimed last month that the government was hiding proof of alien spacecraft.
Representative for Tennessee’s second congressional district and Republican Tim Burchett told the Washington Examiner that he believes the government has been “holding stuff back since Roswell in ’47, and maybe prior to that.”
In a shocking interview with the Debrief in June, retired Department of Defence analyst David Charles Grusch said that the government had been illegally suppressing tangible proof of “intact and partially intact” alien vehicles from Congress.
‘I think he’s telling the truth,’ said Mr Burchett. ‘I think there’s a lot that’s going to be out there.
‘There are enough witnesses, enough qualified pilots, astronauts, literally heroes of ours, who have come forward about things and so I think it’s pretty evident that government is covering up.
‘And the reason we don’t have any of that information now is a lot of it is so compartmentalised that the people that could connect the dots are long gone.’
Representative Tim Burchett is calling on greater transparency from the government (Picture: Getty)
The US government has denied Mr Grush’s allegations. When referencing unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) – the official name for unidentified flying objects, or UFOs – it rarely comments on national security grounds, a method Mr Burchett said was part of the cover-up.
‘It’s not the Russians or the Chinese, because we know if it was the Chinese, they would own us,’ he said. ‘And if it was Russia, [Vladimir] Putin, with his ego – he sure wouldn’t be stumbling in Ukraine right now.’
Mr Burchett argues ‘we have something that we do not control in our military airspace’, and said the public has a right to know about UAP events.
In May, Nasa’s independent study group into UAPs presented its first findings. Among the data was video of a metallic, spherical orb flying over desert in the Middle East. The panel would not be drawn on what the object was. However, when speaking publicly, most government officials say they believe UAPs are foreign surveillance or weather balloons.
It was apparently the remnants of a weather balloon that sparked the Roswell incident mentioned by Mr Burchett. In 1947, metallic and rubber debris was recovered in Roswell, New Mexico, by Army Air Field personnel – who promptly issued a press release announcing they had found part of a ‘flying disc’. The Army quickly retracted the release, instead putting forward the weather balloon theory.
In 1994 it was revealed by the government to have been a secret military balloon designed to help detect Soviet nuclear bomb tests, but conspiracy theories continue to surround the event.

Mr Burchett, alongside Representative Anna Pauline Luna, are leading the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into UAPs, although no date is confirmed for a hearing.
Asked why the US government would cover up evidence of alien craft, he said ‘greed and power’.
‘I think the interesting thing you’re going to find out is the Pentagon, and all of our research institutions, you see them kind of warming up to it,’ he said. ‘And the reason they are is they’re smelling dollars.’
Despite this, he alleged the government would try to discredit Mr Grusch.
Mr Burchett has previously alleged recovered UFO technology was potentially already being reverse engineered, and that the US has ‘recovered a craft at some point, and possible beings’.
As tests revealed the material found in the White House to be cocaine, President Joe Biden grinned and shrugged off inquiries.
On Wednesday, reporters questioned Biden in the Oval Office about the cocaine that had been found three days earlier and had caused a brief evacuation.
The Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson was seated across from the US president, who grinned broadly and ignored the questioning.
Biden remained silent as a Secret Service spokesman told CNN that lab testing of the white substance came back positive for cocaine. Field testing had already shown that the substance was cocaine, but it was then sent for more evaluation.
The substance was spotted by the ground floor entrance to the West Wing, where staff-led tours of the White House enter, usually on the weekends, a source told CNN. It is near where visitors must leave their cell phones. Sources have also said that the substance was in a small, zipped baggie.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Wednesday said that White House tours recently took place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Asked if it was possible that a visitor left the cocaine, she said: ‘It is where visitors to the West Wing come through. I’m not going to speculate on who it was.’
Jean-Pierre said that Biden was briefed on ‘everything we know so far’ around the incident.
‘We have confidence that they will get to the bottom of this,’ she said.
Biden ignored questions on the matter on Tuesday, Independence Day, as well. Instead, the president invited his son Hunter Biden, who has acknowledged he used to be addicted to crack cocaine, to stand with him on a White House balcony to watch Fourth of July celebrations. They were accompanied by family members including First Lady Jill Biden, Hunter’s three-year-old son Beau and his wife Melissa.
On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump joined other conservatives in claiming without evidence that the president and Hunter are linked to the substance.
‘Does anybody really believe that the COCAINE found in the West Wing of the White House, very close to the Oval Office, is for the use of anyone other than Hunter & Joe Biden?’ wrote Trump on his Truth Social platform.
Trump then used the incident as an example of what he considers unfair treatment and coverage of himself compared to Biden.
‘But watch, the Fake News Media will soon start saying that the amount found was “very small,” & it wasn’t really COCAINE, but rather common ground up Aspirin, & the story will vanish.’
The valet of former president Donald Trump entered a not guilty plea in the case involving the sensitive materials in a federal courtroom in Miami.
Waltine ‘Walkt’ Nauta, 40, showed up at the James Lawrence King Federal Justice Building on Thursday morning to answer charges that he helped Trump conceal secret documents that the former president took to Mar-a-Lago after leaving the White House.
Six counts, including conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding and concealing documents, and making false statements, were dismissed when he entered a not guilty plea. When US Magistrate Judge Edwin Torres asked Nauta if he had reviewed the accusations against him, Nauta just said “yes.”
Nauta’s lawyer Stanley Woodward entered Nauta’s plea on his behalf. His attorney in Florida who is assisting in the case, Sasha Dadan, also appeared alongside him.
The arraignment took only a few minutes and Nauta and his two lawyers then went into a conference room without speaking to reporters.
Upon arriving at the courthouse, Nauta did not talk to reporters and only smiled. He wore sunglasses and a navy suit.
Prosecutors claim that Nauta hid boxes of records as Trump’s lawyers were looking for classified material that the Justice Department was seeking. Nauta also lied to investigators in an interview, according to prosecutors.
Nauta first appeared in court alongside Trump on June 13 but was not arraigned because he did not have a lawyer representing him who could practice in Florida. Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 felony charges relating to his alleged mishandling of classified documents that day.
The arraignment for Nauta was scheduled for June 27 but postponed because he did not have an attorney able to practice in Florida.
It is not clear when the trial for Trump and Nauta will start. US District Judge Aileen Cannon initially scheduled it to begin on August 14, but prosecutors requested that it be delayed until December 11.
Trump is the first former president to be hit with criminal charges in federal and state courts.
If convicted, Nauta faces up to 20 years in prison for the most serious charge.
A collision involving a double-decker tour bus and an MTA bus in Manhattan, New York, has left up to 18 people hospitalised.
On Thursday night, it occurred on First Avenue, and numerous people needed medical attention right away for their wounds.
According to Paul Hopper, Division 1 deputy chief of New York EMS, the injured had cuts, bruises and scrapes in addition to head and neck injuries and possible fractures.
About 63 persons were evaluated at the scene by a doctor, and none of the injured have injuries that are life-threatening.
‘We’ve had a few minor challenges in the double-decker bus – going through the windows, taking people out,’ Mr Hopper confirmed.
Ropes and ladders were also used to rescue people from the buses, Kevin Murphy from the New York Fire Department confirmed.

‘I heard the lady next to me scream, so I looked up and I saw this bus barrelling towards us,’ said Ishrak Jahan, a passenger on one bus.
‘I just saw glass everywhere for a second. It was honestly like I was in a movie… I saw blood. I immediately called 911.’
The company that was the owner of the tragic Titan submarine has suspended its business operations, according to a statement on its website.
After the sub sank last month while en route to the Titanic’s submerged remains off the coast of Canada, OceanGate said that it had “suspended all exploration and commercial operations.”
Hamish Harding, a British citizen, and Shahzada and Suleman Dawood, a father and son, were also killed, making a total of five people on board.
CEO of OceanGate Expeditions, Stockton Rush, and the submersible’s pilot, French national Paul-Henri Nargeolet also died in the incident.
The US-company based in Washington announced the development via a banner on the homepage of its website.
OceanGate was founded in 2009 and offered tourists the chance to travel on submersibles into the depths of the ocean to see shipwrecks and underwater canyons up close.
Following the Titan tragedy, there has been widespread criticism of the unsafe nature of the sub.
Authorities are also investigating the cause of its collapse, which has raised concerns about the regulation surrounding such deep-sea voyages.
The vessel was first reported missing on June 18 and then four days later the US Coast Guard confirmed it had been destroyed by a ‘catastrophic implosion’.
Presumed human remains were recovered from the wreckage, as well as the debris of the sub itself, last week.
Former OceanGate employee David Lochridge had previously told a colleague he was worried Mr Rush would get himself and others killed.
Mr Lochridge, formerly OceanGate’s director of marine operations who worked at the company until 2018, was fired after raising concerns about the safety of the ill-fated Titan for much of its building process.
Those warnings were allegedly delivered from the factory floor but were constantly dismissed, it is claimed.
It has now emerged that Lochridge emailed project associate Rob McCallum – who also left OceanGate over safety concerns – shortly after he was fired in 2018.
In a series of messages he said he was worried CEO Stockton Rush would end up dead on the submersible.
The New Yorker claims Lochridge said in an email: ‘I don’t want to be seen as a Tattle tale but I’m so worried he kills himself and others in the quest to boost his ego.
The engineer reportedly continued: ‘I would consider myself pretty ballsy when it comes to doing things that are dangerous, but that sub is an accident waiting to happen.’
‘There’s no way on earth you could have paid me to dive the thing.’
After a party on the Fourth of July, the parents of an 18-month-old daughter left her in a hot car overnight, where she passed away.
Police claim that Jazmine and Joel Rondon, both 33, mistakenly left their daughter in her car seat while removing their other two kids from the vehicle after returning from the Fourth of July celebration.
Joel discovered the youngster unconscious and fastened to her car seat the following morning after failing to see her inside the house. At Lakeland Regional Health Medical Centre, she was declared dead after being transported there. At 2.42 pm, her body temperature was over 104 degrees Fahrenheit, according to NBC News.
‘An autopsy determined that the victim’s cause of death is hyperthermia due to being left in a car, and the manner of death is homicide,’ stated the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The Rondons, of Lakeland, Florida, were arrested on Thursday and had drug tests taken. Joel tested positive for methamphetamines, marijuana and alcohol, while Jazmine tested positive for the latter two, according to the sheriff’s office.
They were charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and taken to Polk County Jail.
The toddler died out of ‘pure negligence’, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said on Thursday.
Temperatures were in the 70s at night and likely 94 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit by 11am, he estimated.
‘The car was outside, not in a garage, not under a tree, not under any shade at all,’ said Judd.
‘And obviously we will try to recreate with the same temperature the heat of the car. Research shows us that the temperature of the car could have been anywhere between 130 and 170 degrees.’
The couple’s two other children are under the care of relatives. The Department of Child and Family services are probing the incident.
It was not immediately known if the Rondons have retained a lawyer.
While combating a fire on an Italian cargo ship in New Jersey, two firefighters perished after being trapped.
On Wednesday night at around 9.30 p.m., a fire started on the Grande Costa d’Avorio, which was berthed at Port Newark. According to the Grimaldi Group, the ship’s owner, it was laden with roughly 1,200 vehicles, including 157 containers and new and used automobiles, trucks, and vans.
As crew men were loading the vehicles onto the ship’s tenth deck, a fire broke out.
Augusto Acabou, 45, who served the Newark Fire Department for nine years, called for help, said Chief Rufus Jackson. Shortly after, 16-year firefighter Wayne Brooks Jr, 49, got trapped. Both of them died.

Neither of them hesitated in responding to the fire on the ship with at least a dozen decks, which they ‘had not trained’ to do, said Mayor Ras Baraka, according to The New York Times.
‘These were two of our best,’ Baraka said.
Emergency responders discovered that five to seven vehicles were ablaze. The fire spread to two overhead decks rapidly and continued burning into Thursday morning.
‘This is the ultimate, ultimate sacrifice of the fire service, to lose a brother or sister of this profession,’ said Jackson, according to CBS News.
‘I ask that each and every one of us – not only the ones who are standing in front of me, but the citizens of Newark, the communities throughout our country – fire service is not just a municipality, it’s a brotherhood, a sisterhood throughout the country, and I ask that each of them pray for our brothers.’
Five other firefighters were hurt, including one who is at a hospital in critical condition, CBS News reported.
The ship was not carrying electric cars or hazardous materials, according to the company.
Baraka said the ship built in Europe did not have equipment that was compatible with the 2.5-inch hose lines in Newark.
Martin Lewis has alerted the public to a ‘frightening’ new investment scheme that uses a deepfake video of him.
People will lose money, and “lives will be ruined,” according to The Money Saving Expert, who urged authorities to “step up” and ban internet monopolies from producing such stuff.
He tweeted about the clever new scam, saying: “This is a scam by criminals trying to steal money.”
‘This is frightening, it’s the first deep fake video scam I’ve seen with me in it. Govt & regulators must step up to stop big tech publishing such dangerous fakes. People’ll lose money and it’ll ruin lives.’
The AI-generated clip of Mr Lewis purports to show him backing an investment scheme by the social media platform’s owner, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
In it, the deepfake consumer champion says: ‘Elon Musk presented his project in which he has already invested more than $3 billion.
‘Musk’s new project opens up great investment opportunities for British citizens. No project has ever given such opportunities to residents of the country.’
Mr Lewis, founder of financial advice website MoneySavingExpert.com and host of The Martin Lewis Money Show Live on ITV, which sees him offer advice to members of the public on topics such as the cost-of living-crisis and rising household bills, sued Facebook for defamation back in 2019 after the social media site published scam ads featuring his image.
As part of an out of court settlement, Facebook pledged to create a reporting tool and donate £3 million to Citizens Advice for an anti-scam project.
He has long campaigned against bogus ads using his face to lure users and wants tech giants to be held responsible under new laws.
Speaking to MPs on the Draft Online Safety Bill Joint Committee in 2021, the consumer champion became visibly emotional as he described how lives were being ‘destroyed’ by fraudsters using his image in scam adverts online.
He detailed several scam victims, including a woman with cancer who lost thousands of pounds earmarked for her granddaughter’s wedding, after seeing an advert falsely claiming to be endorsed by him.
‘She said “It’s Martin sponsoring it, it must be all right”’,’ Mr Lewis said. ‘It was a scam, and she lost tens of thousands. She lost £15,000 trying to get back the money initially lost.’
Beginning on July 23, workers on the London Underground will begin a “week of action” that will see strikes that close up various stretches of the tube.
According to the RMT union, the network’s 600 jobs are in jeopardy and could effect “every aspect of the tube, including stations and maintenance.”
There will be no strike on Monday, July 24, but it will extend from Sunday, July 23, until Friday, July 28.
Workers in different grades and sections of the tube will walk out on each of the affected days.
It is the latest move in a long-running dispute between the RMT and Transport for London (TfL) over jobs, cuts, pensions and working conditions.
RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: ‘This week of action will shut down the London Underground and show just how important the work of our members is.
‘Plans by TfL to cut 600 jobs and attack our members pensions are simply unacceptable.
Latest London news
‘We are aware that Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has had the TfL budget cut.
‘However, he needs to align himself with our union and his London Underground staff in pushing back against the Tory government, exposing their damaging agenda to a key part of London transport infrastructure.’
Glynn Barton, TfL’s chief operating officer, said the agency was ‘disappointed’ by the announcement.
He added: ‘We are urging the union to reconsider and engage with us to discuss the issues and seek a resolution.
‘There are no current proposals to change pension arrangements and, although we are discussing with union colleagues a range of proposals to improve how London Underground operates, no employee will lose their job or be asked to work additional hours.
‘We are trying to create a fairer, more efficient London Underground that works for our staff and for London.
‘All stations would remain well staffed at all times and we believe that our proposals would give an even better and more reliable service to our customers both in terms of our stations and our train services.’
In order to aid Ukraine in defending against Russia‘s constant missile and drone attacks, the UK will provide 17 specialised fire engines.
The Royal Air Force, Defence Fire and Rescue, and the Welsh Assembly are expected to deliver the Rapid Intervention and Major Foam Vehicles in the upcoming weeks, according to the Ministry of Defence.
The vehicles, according to Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, will improve the nation’s capacity to safeguard its infrastructure from the Kremlin’s campaign of missile and drone attacks.
The Ukrainian military fire service has already conducted a week’s training at RAF Wittering to familiarise themselves with the equipment in preparation.
They were delivered from locations around the UK to the Cambridgeshire military base, where personnel are inspecting and preparing them before their onward journey to Ukraine.
Due to arrive in the coming weeks, the urgently-needed equipment will help bolster Ukraine’s ability to respond to damage caused by Russia’s continued use of cruise missiles and one-way attack drones against Ukrainian infrastructure.
Mr Wallace said: ‘These specialist firefighting vehicles will boost Ukraine’s ability to protect its infrastructure from Russia’s campaign of missile and drone attacks and continue our support for Ukraine, for as long as it takes.’
Defence chief fire officer Sim Nex said: ‘The Defence Fire and Rescue family are extremely proud of the specialist support which we have been able to facilitate.
‘We are confident that the equipment provided to date, and associated training, will directly enhance firefighting capability, as we consider further opportunities to support the Ukrainian Military Fire Service moving forward.’
Air Commodore Jamie Thompson, commander of Global Enablement, said: ‘Support to Ukraine, through training and the provision of equipment, remains a priority of RAF Global Enablement.
‘We are proud to work alongside our allies in this effort, supplying specialist equipment and training to assure the safety of the Ukrainian people.’
Former OceanGate finance director claims she left the company after CEO Stockton Rush requested her to take over the Titan submersible’s controls.
After the former chief pilot David Lochridge was let go in 2018 for raising safety concerns, the unidentified woman claimed she was unable to trust Mr. Rush.
The Titan submarine owned by OceanGate collapsed last month while travelling to the Titanic’s underwater remains off the Canadian coast.
All five people on board were killed, including Mr Rush.
She told the New Yorker: ‘It freaked me out that he would want me to be head pilot, since my background is in accounting.
‘I could not work for Stockton. I did not trust him.’
She said as soon as she was able to secure a new job she quit the company, which sends sends submersibles down to the wreckage of the Titanic for paying passengers to look at.
She also claimed several of the engineers were in their late teens and early 20s – and at one point were only being paid $15 an hour.
The woman, who has a background in accounting, claims she was asked to take over the controls of the doomed submersible (Picture: PA)
Lochridge, who is a former Royal Navy marine engineer an ship’s diver, was fired after he demanded more safety checks, including ‘testing to improve its integrity’.
But the company argued it would take years and be ‘anathema to rapid innovation’.
In 2019, OceanGate said seeking classification for the Titan submersible would not ‘ensure that operators adhere to proper operating procedures and decision-making processes – two areas that are much more important for mitigating risks at sea’.
Classification involved an independent organisation being called in to ensure vessels meet industry-wide technical standards.
OceanGate also claimed Lochridge ‘desired to be fired’ and had shared out confidential information and wiped a company hard drive.
He had moved from the UK to Washington to work on the development of the doomed Titan submersible.
OceanGate has since said it has ‘suspended all exploration and commercial operations’.
All five people on board were killed, including UK citizens Hamish Harding and father and son Shahzada and Suleman Dawood.
CEO of OceanGate Expeditions, Stockton Rush, and the submersible’s pilot, French national Paul-Henri Nargeolet also died in the incident.
Just one day after releasing a new rival app, Twitter vowed to sue Meta.
Within 24 hours of going live, Threads had 30 million new users sign up.
But now, Twitter’s CEO Elon Musk has warned Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg via his attorney Alex Spiro that he may face legal repercussions in a letter.
‘Twitter has strong concerns that Meta Platforms (Meta) has engaged in systematic, deliberate, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property,’ the letter said.
It claims that Meta has hired ‘dozens’ of former Twitter employees and that they have access to the company’s ‘trade secrets’.
Mr Spiro also says that many of these employees have ‘improperly retained Twitter documents and electronic devices’, reports Semafor.
He wrote: ‘Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information.’
However, a source at Meta reportedly told Semafor that Twitter’s accusations are baseless.
They said: ‘No one on the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee – that’s just not a thing.’
Mr Spiro warned: ‘Twitter reserves all rights, including, but not limited to, the right to seek both civil remedies or injunctive relief without further notice.’
Threads is trying to compete with Twitter by taking advantage of Instagram’s billions of users.
Since Mr Musk’s takeover of the social media platform, Twitter has seen competition from Mastodon and Bluesky among others.
The Threads user interface, however, has a striking resemblance to the microblogging platform.
Mr Zuckerberg only announced the new app on Tuesday, calling it an app built for ‘sharing with text’.
At first glance, the app features an unmistakable Twitter-like feed in Instagram’s signature design.
‘Threads offers a new, separate space for real-time updates and public conversations,’ said Mr Zuckerberg in an announcement.
With Threads, Meta is also trying its hand at a ‘decentralised’ approach like many Twitter alternatives.
Mr Zuckerberg added: ‘We are working toward making Threads compatible with the open, interoperable social networks that we believe can shape the future of the internet.’
Here’s what happened when we tried out Threads for the first time today.

The government has been urged to increase the country’s tourism industry by actively supporting and investing in the Ghanaian film industry by Peter Sedufia, the CEO of OldFilm Productions.
The director is confident that if the government collaborated with the film industry to create movies that shed light on the nation, the state would be able to reap the most benefits from the tourism industry.
“Truthfully, if we want to push Ghana’s tourism, then the film industry cannot be ignored. People will come to the country to see and experience what they watch in movies such as natural reserves and historical sites,” Sedufia said in an interview with Graphic Showbiz
Although he acknowledged that successive governments over the years have expressed interest in advancing the movie industry and using it as a tool to tap into the unending streams of funds from the tourism industry, such statements have become political slogans that lose their relevance after elections.
He said, “unfortunately, the sector is not supported to push such causes and only becomes relevant during political campaigns.”
Peter Sedufia’s comments came in the wake of a disclosure by American filmmaker Angela White, who said she was disappointed with the Government of Ghana (GoG), following the lack of support for her film projects in the country last year.
His comment is a response to complaints by Angela White, a Hollywood filmmaker who mentioned that the government does not do much to support movie makers in the country, especially film-makers from the diaspora.
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park architect Bethel Kofi Mamphey shares his insight into the inspiration behind the renovations, as well as its significance.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Citi TV, the architect explained that he wanted to create something very related to everyone, especially millennials.
According to him, although most young people have heard of Kwame Nkrumah, they did not experience and witnessed him, as such he designed the place such that visitors would get a true and honest feel of what Dr Kwame Nkrumah was.
“Most of us millennials, have heard of Nkrumah, but we didn’t see him, so coming up with the project, I wanted to create something that will allow people to experience parts of him that people have never seen– the emotional phases he went through as a President. The Freedom Wall is to give visitors a feel of Dr. Nkrumah,” he said.
Touching on why he did not change the old mausoleum, Mamphey indicated that the structure was properly constructed and built with marble, a material that would enable it to stand for a very long time.
He explained, “We left the old mausoleum as it is. It is a very beautiful structure. It was made with marble stones which is an everlasting material. We just restored the dilapidated state of some of its structures including the broken concrete fence. That is where his remains are. The land is the same. The difference is that the lawns and the trees have been well-manicured, so now you can see everything at a distance”.
The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park houses the remains of Ghana’s first president and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah. The facility was first designed by Dr. Don Arthur in 1992, and built at the former Polo grounds in Accra.

MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed concern over the detrimental impact that Gyakye Quayson’s trial will have on the functioning of the Ghanaian Parliament.
The lawmaker said that every time the Minority boycotts the House to accompany Quayson in court, it will undermine the prominence of democracy in the country.
Ablakwa explained that this is a result of President Akufo-Addo‘s belligerent persecution of James Gyakye Quayson.
“It’s a shame that parliamentary business & democratic cooperation will henceforth suffer because of Akufo-Addo’s belligerent persecution of the overwhelmingly twice-elected Assin North MP,” Ablakwa wrote on Twitter.
The Minority caucus in Parliament was absent today, Thursday, July 6, 2023, to accompany the leader of the caucus, Ato Forson and the MP for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson for their respective trials.
The Minority in Parliament on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, took a firm stance to abstain from participating in the parliamentary business on days Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson, is scheduled to appear in court.
In a show of solidarity, Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson announced that the entire Minority caucus will accompany Mr. Quayson to court, expressing their disapproval of what they perceive as ongoing persecution against him.
Eno Barony has said that she has never clashed with any other artist in the business andthat what happened between Medikal and her was mere play.
It will be recalled that in 2020, Eno Barony and Medikal got into a heated argument that caused everyone to talk and wonder who would release the best diss song.
The female rapper released a track called “Force Dem to Play Nonsense” that was meant as a diss to Medikal shortly after the beef began.
Few days after the battle, the ‘Scarface’ hitmaker came out to say the beef between him and Eno Barony was a way of hyping the female rapper to attract attention.
Eno Barony, in an interview with Berla Mundi on The Day Show said that she has not engaged in any beef with Medikal adding that they were both exchanging lyrics.
She said: “I have not had a beef with Medikal; I have actually not had a beef with anybody in the industry yet. That was just playing playing. It was just some lyrical thing. I mean it’s just a lyrical something; back and forth. I haven’t beef yet, what you saw is normal”
To back her claims, she explained that during that time, she was the brand ambassador for a number of products thus she had to be careful with the words she used.
Eno Barony also stated she went easy on her battle with Medikal because she can go harder than what he did to the hip pop singer.
“When I was doing that thing, I was like brand ambassadors to some brands, so there were certain things I couldn’t even say. That is why I said it’s normal. With Medikal, I didn’t say anything at all”, she added.
Eno Barony is one of the most talented female rappers in Ghana and she is known for the songs ‘God is a Woman’, ‘Heavy Load’ and ‘Enough is Enough’ with the latter, which featured Wendy Shay.
Member of Parliament for Buem, Kofi Adams, has affirmed that the Electoral Commission (EC) has not expressed any grievances regarding allegations of deceit in the case involving James Gyakye Quayson.
According to him, the EC is aware that Quayson underwent the necessary legal processes to renounce his Canadian citizenship before contesting the seat in the 2020 election.
Adams further highlighted that the EC scrutinized Quayson’s eligibility and deemed him qualified to contest the election. He explained that when Quayson took the oath of office upon his election, he did so as a Ghanaian.
“They saw everything about it and still thought that he was qualified to contest that election. That is why the Electoral Commission is not a complainer. That is why the Electoral Commission is not saying that they have been deceived by anybody because they were never deceived,” myjoyonline quoted Adams.
According to Adams, when reports regarding the citizenship status of the Assin North MP surfaced, the authorities in the Central Region acknowledged that it was beyond their jurisdiction. The matter was subsequently referred to the Chair of the EC, Madam Jean Mensa, who established a committee involving legal practitioners to review the reports and documentation related to Gyakye Quayson’s identity.
The committee examined the documents, including the renunciation certificate of the MP, and determined that Gyakye Quayson was qualified to contest the election, Adams noted.
James Gyakye Quayson, a candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), recently lost his position as the constituency’s MP after a court ruled that he held dual citizenship, which is illegal for anyone occupying a public office. Consequently, the seat was declared vacant, leading to a by-election.
Amidst the court case, the NPP capitalized on the issue to campaign against Quayson, suggesting that he would be unable to serve the constituency if imprisoned. However, experts caution that such a strategy may backfire, as it could lead to perceptions of persecution among the constituency’s youth.
Despite winning the seat by a significant margin, Gyakye Quayson will continue to pursue the legal process until the case is concluded.
Some individuals are now calling for the discontinuation of the court proceedings in the interest of democracy.
A businessman accused of orchestrating a GHC200,000 recruitment scam, has been denied bail by an Accra Circuit Court.
Emmanuel Goodluck Asempa, is currently held in custody for promising to assist some individuals in getting enlistment in some security services.
The lawyer of the accused, Robert Pappoe, according to the report, prayed for the court to grant bail to his client who is pending the trial.
The lawyer argued that the accused has a permanent residence and would be available for all court proceedings.
He furthermore stated that the charges leveled against his client were bailable, and he had individuals willing to act as sureties.
However, when asked for his digital address, the accused person was unable to provide them.
The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Frimpong, objected to the grant of bail, indicating that numerous complainants from various regions had come forward against the accused person.
Hence the increasing prevalence of recruitment scams and urged the court to address the issue promptly.
ASP Frimpong requested a one-week adjournment for ongoing investigations.
The prosecution acknowledged that the accused person had the constitutional right to seek bail; however, they argued that these rights should be balanced with the rights of society.
The court presided over by Judge Isaac Addo sided with the prosecution and instructed them to expedite their investigations.
The matter has been adjourned until July 10.
Asempa stands accused of collecting sums ranging from GH¢5,000 to GH¢10,000 from individuals, promising to secure their enrollment in security agencies such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and Ghana National Fire Service.
According to reports, Asempa allegedly collected the money in 2020 from a farmer and an Osu resident before going into hiding. However, he was apprehended on June 14, 2023.
Asempa has pleaded not guilty to charges of defrauding by false pretenses.
