Due to a limited market supply, Brent crude increased by 2.5% to $79.75 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate by 2.6% to $74.70 early on Thursday.
US pipeline operator Colonial Pipeline said Wednesday it has halted operations at its Line 3, with a restart scheduled for Jan. 7, Reuters reported. Prior to the pipeline shutdown, oil prices had been hit by uncertainty in the near-term economic prospects for China as COVID-19 cases rise.
Significant disruption is expected in the coming months, followed by a recovery from around the middle of the year, which should boost demand, OANDA analyst Craig Erlam said in a Wednesday note.
The falling value of the US dollar supported higher oil prices by encouraging traders using other currencies. A weaker dollar further fuels strong demand in the market. Meanwhile, global recession fears lead to lower demand expectations.
Weaker demand worries heightened especially after the IMF’s Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said one-third of the world’s economies are expected to go into recession in 2023.
Low demand fears are also supported by rising COVID cases in China which cap further price increases. Adding more on demand worries, the world’s second-largest economy, China, significantly increased its first batch of 2023 export quotas for refined oil products.
This shows the country is expecting less consumption.
Nana Kofi Babil, a forward for Medeama, has rejoined the team after his lengthy contract with NK Aluminij of Slovenia expired. After finishing his season-long loan in the European nation, the 20-year-old has made a return to Tarkwa.
Babil was on loan to the Austrian club SCR Altach for the whole 2020–2021 campaign. On his return to his boyhood club, he is anticipated to provide the Mauve and Yellow firepower.
Babil is now available to be selected and might make his comeback on Wednesday against Nsoatreman FC.
Since his arrival from Europe, he has been working out alongside his colleagues.
Babil had a standout season in the top division in the 2019–2020 season, scoring 4 goals in 12 games.
Medeama SC is currently 12th on the Ghana Premier League table with 14 points after 11 games. The Mauve and Yellow were thrashed 4-0 by Dreams FC in their match week 11 game played at the Dawu Sports Stadium.
While oil palm is priced at GH1,252.92 per tonne, rubber will be sold at GH4.9167 per kilo.
The production, processing, trade, and marketing of six tree crops in Ghana are presently regulated and developed by the Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA). These include coconut, mango, oil palm, cashew, shea, and rubber.
The determinants for the pricing include the Cedi to dollar exchange rate sourced from the Bank of Ghana, the average price of crude palm oil and crude palm kernel oil sourced from Reuters, as well as the international price of Technically Specified Rubber sourced from the Singapore Commodity Market.
Others include margins for Miller, aggregation and transportation, and TCDA levy.
A Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mr Yaw Frimpong Addo who announced the Minimum Producer Price, said the introduction of the monthly pricing formula will protect farmers against exploitation.
The CEO of the TCDA, William Agyapong Quaitoo said the overall objective is to ensure uniformity in pricing of the two commodities and make farmers benefit from their hardworking. He explained that, the pricing formula took into consideration all those in the value chain by giving margins for their operations.
French Football Federation (FFF) president Noel Le Graet has apologised after being accused by Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid of disrespecting Zinedine Zidane.
Paris Saint-Germain forward Mbappe was one of many to take aim at Le Graet over comments he made after it was confirmed Didier Deschamps is staying on as France head coach.
Le Graet said he did not care whether Zidane, who had been strongly tipped to succeed Deschamps, ended up taking on another job.
The 81-year-old also said he would not pick up the phone if former midfielder Zidane called him to discuss coaching the national team.
Many called for Le Graet to apologise, with Mbappe posting on Twitter: “Zidane is France, we don’t disrespect the legend like that…”
Madrid issued a statement on Monday criticising the “unfortunate comments”.
Los Blancos also referenced previous remarks made by Le Graet regarding striker Karim Benzema, who recently announced his retirement from international duty.
Madrid’s condemnation was swiftly followed by Le Graet releasing a statement of his own in which he attempted a U-turn.
“These awkward remarks created a misunderstanding,” said Le Graet, who has been FFF president since June 2011.
“I’d like to present my personal apologies for these remarks which absolutely do not reflect my thoughts, nor my consideration for the player he was and the coach he’s become.”
Zidane has been out of work since leaving Madrid in May 2021, having led Los Blancos to three Champions Leagues and two LaLiga titles across two spells in charge.
As a player, Zidane earned 108 caps for France and helped his country win the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championship two years later.
The 50-year-old has also been touted as a candidate to take over as head coach of Brazil, while the United States are reported to have made an approach
According to him, three groups representing individual bondholders are mobilizing to file a class action lawsuits against the government.
Individual bondholders were included in the DDE which was announced by Minister of Finance late last year after labour organizations forced government to remove pensions from the DDE programme.
“It was anticipated that adding individual/retail investors to Ghana’s debt default will increase the risk of litigation,” Simons noted in a January 7, 2023 tweet,
Adding: “At least 3 groups representing individual bondholders have commenced mobilisation to file class action lawsuits. One group is led by a former SEC Boss.”
Government is hoping to close a deal on debt restructuring at home in order to be able to access an International Monetary Fund (IMF) facility to support the failing economy.
Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta on December 6 announced that government was restructuring bonds held by institutional investors, putting them into four groups stretching 15 years. With interest also spread in four tranches in four years.
The programme faced stiff opposition from major professional groups and workers union in the country because of its pension component.
Ken Ofori-Atta outlines Domestic Debt Exchange programme
To alleviate the debts owed by the country, government initiated a domestic debt exchange programme (DDE), which has affected individual bondholders.
Martin Kpebu asserted in an interview with Joy FM on Monday that, government has money to settle the debts, but has rather decided to channel the funds into infrastructure and developmental projects contained in the 2023 budget.
“I don’t believe government doesn’t have money. I have looked at the budget and straight away if I look at the projects we intend to do, I believe government can cut back,” he stated.
“It’s not like people are asking for freebies, it is their hard-earned money that they lend to government and it is time to pay and government is like no, we don’t have money but government intends to continue certain developmental projects. You can’t rob Peter to pay Paul.” he is quoted by myjoyonline.com
Concerning that, the legal practitioner is leading some affected individual investors to engage government in negotiation. He added that a class action lawsuit against government will follow if negotiations yields no results.
A notice inviting affected individuals to join the class action suit, encouraged Ghanaians not to allow government to use its power to make them poor or deprive them of vitality.
The notice stated, “government cannot be allowed to use its might to impoverish Ghanaians.”
Portugal have appointed Roberto Martinez as their new head coach.
Fernando Santos called time on his eight-year stint at the helm last month, a decision which followed a shock World Cup defeat to Morocco.
Santos led Portugal to the quarter-finals in Qatar, where he benched Cristiano Ronaldo for the Selecao’s two knockout games — a comprehensive 6-1 win over Switzerland and the 1-0 loss to the Atlas Lions.
Martinez, who has reportedly signed a four-year deal, became a free agent shortly before Santos’ departure — leaving his role as Belgium coach after the Red Devils slumped to a dismal group-stage exit in Qatar.
Former Wigan and Everton boss Martinez led the Belgians to their best World Cup campaign when they clinched third place at Russia 2018, though his failure to deliver silverware with a crop of players said to be the country’s “golden generation” has attracted criticism.
Martinez oversaw 61 games during his six-year spell in charge, winning 47 (77%).
Belgium beat Canada in their opening match in Qatar but a defeat to Morocco and draw with Croatia saw them slump eliminated from a World Cup group for the first time since 1998.
They entered the tournament second in the FIFA rankings, but dropped to fourth after their failure to reach the knockout stage.
Upon taking the job, one of Martinez’s foremost challenges will be to make a decision on the international future of Ronaldo, who has joined Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia following the termination of his contract with Manchester United.
Though Ronaldo recognised his “most ambitious dream” was over after failing to inspire Portugal to glory at his fifth World Cup, the 37-year-old is yet to retire from international football.
The Portuguese will begin their qualification campaign for Euro 2024 at home to Liechtenstein on March 23, having been drawn into a group also containing Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Slovakia and Luxembourg.
“Nationally, the Customs Division Collected GH¢22.26 billion as against a target of GH¢20.62 billion, representing a positive deviation of 7.95 percent,” Mr Iddrisu said.
He added that the Tema Collection also recorded an excellent performance in its revenue mobilization drive which also exceeded the target by GH¢1.25 billion translating to 7.83 percent.
He congratulated all officers, personnel of Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) and other stakeholders of the Customs Division for putting in the effort to rake in the needed revenue for 2022.
Mr Iddrisu said the GRA has set a revenue target of GH¢206 billion for this year and out of it, Customs Division is expected to collect GH¢28.5 billion.
The Customs Commissioner further said GRA top management has also challenged the Customs Division to collect an additional GH¢12 billion for this year.
He, therefore, called on all to rally around and double their efforts to achieve the target for the year 2023.
The Assistant Commissioner Kantum (Rtd), on his part said it was no secret that when Tema Collection performed very well and exceeds its target by a high percent, it took care of the shortfalls of other collections to ensure that the national target was achieved or exceeded.
He advised the youth to discover themselves in the Customs work by charting their own path, defining their values, and taking cues from the values of the GRA.
He reminded them to always remember that they were tax collectors, and therefore must uphold professionalism, and integrity, while having a learning and innovative mindset which were key to a long and enduring career.
Dancehall musician, Shatta Wale, has taken a dig at Ghanaians who have poured out their frustrations at Meek Mill following the release of the music video shoot at the Jubilee house.
Shatta who claimed to have seen nothing wrong with Meek Mill’s conduct has asked Ghanaians to rather channel their energy toward other things.
According to him, Meek Mill, a fellow black man, whose visit to the country somewhat benefited the ‘Year of Return’ initiative, shouldn’t be faulted if he took a couple of shots in the county to flaunt.
He has therefore described all those who have criticized the American rapper as villagers.
“You wan go America go take pictures for White House. You say “year of return “and your own black brother come shoot video as he return home you bore ..You are a villager trust me !!!” he wrote on Twitter.
In a thread of posts online, where he was spotted making a jest out of the issue, Shatta slammed critics for fighting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
To him, the president shouldn’t be blamed for Meek Mill’s conduct at the Jubilee House.
“You won’t solve your problem. You want to fight with president. see mumu …Jon. There’s a better beef coming up. Forget president beef and let’s wait for the great beef …You can’t show Nana anything. so shut up,” he added.
Background
There have been massive outbursts on social media after Meek Mill’s music video recorded at the Jubilee house went viral on social media.
In the said video, the American rapper was spotted at different locations at the Jubilee House, from the frontage, through the main corridors, in the main conference hall, at a point positioned behind the presidential podium, and later in a sitting area rapping.
Some individuals who have been appalled by the development, have described it as a complete desecration of the seat of the president.
Founder and leader of Perez Chapel International, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, wants politicians to be at the forefront of the fight against corruption.
He said the rate at which politicians are amassing wealth and how they fund campaigns, fighting against corruption will not end anytime soon.
According to him, it is important that politicians fight corruption because the country is fast sinking due to the rate of the act.
He made these comments during his address to the leadership of the NDC when they joined his congregation for a thanksgiving service on Sunday, January 8, 2023. “It’s obvious the greatest enemy of this nation is corruption, but looking at the way political parties fund their activities and campaigns, our view is that we are not going to [win the] fight [against] corruption anytime soon.
Those political businesses who fund politicians end up hijacking the wealth of the nation. Politicians should help us fight this because our nation is sinking too fast, and we cannot continue in this direction,” Citinewsroom.coom quoted the founder and leader of the Perez Chapel International.
Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, National Chairman of the NDC, led the delegation to join the Christian community to thank God for helping the Party to have a successful congress late last year.
Mr Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the Party, Madam Shirley Ayittey, Second Vice Chairman, Mr Godwin Ako Gunn, Second Deputy National Communication Officer, Mr Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, Greater Accra Regional Chairman, and some NDC Members of Parliament (MPs) were at the service.
What’s more, some insurers have stopped providing coverage for ships and planes moving goods to and from Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. Reinsurers have also pulled out of the region on heightened risks, the report noted.
The Black Sea, which is shared by Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, and Turkey, is a major oil and oil product shipping artery.
“The effect of (the exit of reinsurers) is reducing (underwriting) capacity in the market for war risk and will mean people will pay more this year,” one of the Reuters sources explained.
These higher rates and limited availability of reinsurance coverage add to industry woes related to the G7 price cap imposed on Russian oil exports. Per the rules of the cap regime, Western insurers, which constitute about 90 percent of all maritime insurers, are banned from providing coverage for vessels carrying Russian crude sold at over $60 per barrel.
Higher freight rates for Black Sea shipping, however, would add to the costs of the goods being shipped through the chokepoint.
“For shipments going in and out of Russia you will find premiums going up. It could easily rise by 50% (from the end of last year) to reflect the cost of capital from not being reinsured,” another Reuters source said.
On the flip side, tanker rates have declined despite expectations of a spike after the EU embargo on Russian crude went into effect. Among the reasons is the embargo itself: European refiners ramped up their intake of Russian crude before December 5 and after that date came the buying spree subsided and died out, effectively reducing demand for tankers.
Cristiano Ronaldo will still have the chance to represent Portugal after new head coach Roberto Martinez left the door open for him to compete for the national side.
A move to Al Nassr for Ronaldo after the World Cup came after a turbulent period for the 37-year-old saw him released by Manchester United and then dropped by Fernando Santos during Portugal’s campaign in Qatar.
Now in Saudi Arabia, it has not been clear whether the 196-cap forward’s time on the international stage would end at the start of a new era under Martinez.
However, speaking at his unveiling on Monday, the former Belgium boss confirmed he will talk to Ronaldo, and other players, before making decisions on the squad.
“Decisions have to be made on the pitch. I won’t rush into decisions. I want to meet everyone, and from today I want to talk and meet all the players,” he said at a press conference.

A thrilling FA Cup third round saw eight Premier League sides dumped out — the most at this stage for 15 years.
League Two Stevenage toppled Aston Villa, Newcastle were sent packing by Sheffield Wednesday of League One, while Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth lost to Championship opposition.
National League Wrexham also handed an upset to second-tier Coventry as Manchester City piled more misery on Chelsea by beating them 4-0.
With Premier League leaders Arsenal hoping to avoid slipping up against third-tier Oxford tonight, we pick out the stars of the FA Cup third round so far.
Anass Zaroury (Burnley)
Perhaps the least surprising upset of the weekend saw Championship high-flyers Burnley knock out Bournemouth, who are struggling badly in the top fight.
Vincent Kompany’s men were the better team throughout the clash at the Vitality Stadium, with Moroccan winger Anass Zaroury’s display a real standout.
After Ryan Christie cancelled out Manuel Benson’s opener, Zaroury was on hand to finish off a fine team move and put the Clarets 2-1 up in the first half.
His second of the afternoon was all his own making as he cleverly combined with Josh Brownhill inside the box before lashing in the finish before the break.
The highly-rated 22-year-old could easily have completed his hat-trick in the second half but for a fine stop from Mark Travers, but Benson netted his second moments later to complete an impressive 4-2 victory.
Anass Zaroury was in sensational form as Burnley dispatched Bournemouth 4-2
Ian Poveda (Blackpool)
Blackpool were the next to deal out a humbling for the top flight as they dismantled a much-changed Nottingham Forest 4-1 at Bloomfield Road.
In a Tangerines display with plenty of positives, it is Ian Poveda who earns a place in this list for his influential showing.
The Leeds loanee thrived in a No10 role against Steve Coooper’s men, firing home his side’s second of the afternoon — and his first since arriving at the Seasiders.
Later teeing up Jerry Yates to score Blackpool’s fourth, pundit Stephen Warnock was left purring at the 22-year-old’s performance.
Warnock said on Match of the Day: “His footwork for the goal, the calmness, outstanding. The speed with which he attacks, weight of pass, hungry to win the ball back.
“He is that type of player where he can frustrate you one game, and the next — everything can go right.”
Josh Windass (Sheffield Wednesday)
An inspired display by League One promotion contenders Sheffield Wednesday saw them claim the scalp of high-flying Premier League side Newcastle.
A Magpies XI boasting the likes of Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Joelinton were turned over by the Owls thanks to two strikes from Josh Windass.
After a goalless but eventful first half, Windass got the final touch of a lovely move early in the second half before clinically finishing past Martin Dubravka for the second time 13 minutes later.
Substitute Bruno Guimaraes halved the deficit to set up a nervy finish but Darren Moore’s men held on for a memorable victory.
Struggling to hear the question during his post-match interview inside a raucous Hillsborough, Windass remarked: “I honestly don’t know what you just said.
“It was enjoyable. We’ve been on a good run of form so, yeah, tonight was no different. It’s always nice to score, I’ve been in good form, so it’s nice to score.”
Thomas O’Connor (Wrexham)
The Saturday thrills continued as Wrexham came out on top of a Hollywood-worthy seven-goal thriller at Coventry.
Efforts from Sam Dalby, Elliot Lee, Thomas O’Connor and Paul Mullin saw the National League’s second-placed side extraordinarily race into a 4-1 lead.
Viktor Gyokeres and Kasey Palmer scored for the Sky Blues to set up a nervy finish despite Jonathan Panzo’s red card, but the North Wales outfit held on for a superb win in front of owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny.
Again, it seems harsh to single out just one individual display but it was Irish midfielder O’Connor who takes a place on this list.
The ex-Southampton youngster ensured the Red Dragons went into the break with a two-goal advantage, leaping to put his side 3-1 up in the sixth minute of stoppage time during a lively display in the West Midlands.
Dean Campbell (Stevenage)
Perhaps the biggest shock of the round was saved until late in the weekend as Stevenage scored two goals in the final three minutes to stun a side 59 places above them in the English football pyramid in Aston Villa.
Unai Emery’s side looked to be cruising at Villa Park despite enjoying a slender advantage through Morgan Sanson’s effort, but substitute Dean Campbell’s crucial contribution off the bench stunned the home crowd.
Introduced with less than half an hour to play, the 21-year-old stole the ball from Leander Dendoncker before forcing a foul inside the box — allowing fellow subsitute Jamie Reid to equalise in the 88th minute.
Boro’s tails were up from that point and some quick thinking from a corner caught Villa out again, allowing Campbell the opportunity to find the winner which he took in emphatic style with a fierce strike past Robin Olsen.
Sparking bedlam among the 3,000-strong travelling support, Campbell’s first ever goal for the Hertfordshire side was one that wrote his name into the club’s history.
League Two Stevenage enjoyed a memorable FA Cup night at Villa Park
Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City)
It is a more established player who rounds things off as Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez put Chelsea to the sword for the second time within a week.
The Algerian had already scored the winner off the bench at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League last Thursday, before doing the damage from the start this time with two goals.
His stunning free-kick to put City 1-0 up was undoubtedly one of the goals of the round and he also netted his side’s fourth from the spot late on to pile the pressure on Blues boss Graham Potter.
Citizens manager Pep Guardiola said: “The quality of Riyad is everything. He loves to play football, he helped us to play the game.
“It was really good. It was a fantastic free-kick. He played an outstanding game.”
Cristiano Ronaldo joining Al Nassr will have a similar impact as Pele’s move to New York Cosmos nearly 50 years ago, according to the Saudi club’s head coach Rudi Garcia.
Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, thought to be one of the most lucrative in football history, following his Manchester United exit.
The Portugal international has yet to make his debut due to a domestic suspension carried over from his time at United, but his impact is already being felt off the pitch.
And in the view of Garcia, the transfer is comparable to the late Pele’s move to American club Cosmos in 1975 following a legendary spell with Santos.
“It’s a bit like Pele’s arrival, especially for the development of football, sport and culture in Saudi Arabia,” Garcia was quoted as saying by L’Equipe.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is more than a player. He is one of the best players in the world.
“It’s amazing how much it’s put a spotlight on our club. Now everyone knows where our club is around the world.
“We must have gone from 800,000 [Twitter followers] to 10 million in a few hours, or a few days, because of Cristiano’s arrival.”
Ronaldo missed Friday’s 2-0 win over Al Tai and will also sit out Saturday’s trip to Al Shabab due to a ban imposed for knocking a phone out of an Everton fan’s hand last April.
He is eligible to make his Al Nassr debut against Al Ettifaq on January 22, but Garcia has confirmed Ronaldo may first feature in a prestige friendly against Paris Saint-Germain.
That could mean a clash between Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as PSG take on a Saudi All-Star XI made up of players from Al Nassr and Al Hilal, but Garcia is not entirely happy.
“His debut won’t be with the Al Nassr jersey. It will be a mix between Al Hilal and Al Nassr,” Garcia said.
“As the coach of Al Nassr, I cannot be pleased with this match. For development, to see PSG, to see the great Parisian players, indeed it is a good thing.
“But we have a championship game three days later. In terms of scheduling, it could have been better thought out. But it’s not a big deal.
“We are in the lead, we are happy. It is a difficult championship to win, but we intend to do it.”
Ronaldo struggled for playing time prior to his United exit and then lost his place in Portugal’s starting line-up in their disappointing World Cup campaign.
Asked what he hopes to see from the 37-year-old when he belatedly makes his debut, Garcia said: “If he finds the pleasure of playing again, that will already be a goal achieved.”
According to the opposition MP, the state despite paying such an amount to the consultant realised only GH¢794,990 after the fundraiser was held in the United States of America.
“Latest Cathedral documents I am analyzing expose a shocking payment of an unbelievable GH¢28.2million (GH¢28,244,716.97) from Ghanaian taxpayer funds to one Mr. Cary Summers, an American President & CEO of the Nehemiah Group.
“Curiously, after receiving our GH¢28.2million, he spearheaded a US fundraising event for the Ghanaian government & Cathedral Secretariat which raised only a paltry GH¢794,990.01,” Mr Ablakwa said in a Facebook post.
Describing the incident as a “classical case of causing financial loss to the state,” Mr Ablakwa said the payment could be seen as an act of generosity or wastefulness.
“Only the Ghanaian government pays GH¢28.2 million for less than GH¢800,000 — which is all Cary Summers has raised for Ghana in three long years. A classical case of causing financial loss to the state.
“The Ghanaian government must be either the most generous or the most wasteful government in world history. When advocates of this scandalous cathedral project tell us it’s been such a blessing, we now understand exactly what they mean,” he added.
Samuel Ablakwa has been a fierce critic of the National Cathedral project which is bedevilled with several controversies surrounding its funding.
The project which is estimated to cost some $400 million according to the government will see the invested money recouped by serving as a tourist attraction.
However, critics citing the disbursement of state funds towards the construction have questioned the priority given to the project under the current economic circumstance.

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) says the Urban Roads Department is solely to blame for the widespread malfunctioning traffic lights in the nation’s urban centers and the crashes that result from them.
Data available from the Authority indicates that 48 percent of traffic lights across Ghana are dysfunctional as of June 2022.
Greater Accra leads with 33 dysfunctioning traffic lights followed closely by the Ashanti Region with a count of 24. The rest are: Bono East-10, Western Region – 9, Bono -7, Volta Region -5, Eastern Region 3 and Upper East -3.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ The Probe on Sunday, the Director of Regulations, Impact, and Compliance at the National Road Safety Authority, Kwame Koduah Atuahene said the problem persists because the Department of Urban Roads has not demonstrated enough commitment to solving it.
He stated that efforts should be made to lessen the situation while lowering road fatalities.
He added that although no agency in the country has access to the needed funding, to carry out its functions, there is an urgent need to prioritise the issue of dysfunctional lights.
“If the accidents are happening in Accra, Kumasi, Eastern Region and we are all concerned about the numbers going down, and you may not be able to fix all the traffic lights in all 16 regions, at least we should see that some effort is being made to try to minimise the stress that we all go through using the roads… they haven’t shown us much passion and I say this with a lot of regrets,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the President of an NGO, Accident Victims Support Ghana, Reverend Cyril Crabbe wants the Department of Urban Roads to immediately deploy men to the various traffic intersections as schools reopen next week to prevent further carnage on our roads.
“We should think about the pedestrians, especially now that schools are about to be reopened .. we have seen many students dying at intersections because there are no traffic lights.”
He proposed the introduction of “road furniture” on the roads to ensure pedestrians safety.
According to GRA’s Accra Central Enforcement Area Manager, Joseph Annan, distress operations during the festive season yielded some poitive results which they are set to build upon.
The tax agency, he told Accra-based Citi FM, visited 60 companies with close to half of the companies having been accessed.
“At the moment, those that we visited, we have done over 60, but those that we have assessed and payments have been made were in 2017 and 2018. Those are the ones the docket is being prepared on.
“This year, it’s going to be much more aggressive. Right from September till the end of December when we started, we saw some good improvements in our collection, month after month, we were achieving our monthly targets,” he indicated.
“I feel it’s embarrassing to have your business being mentioned in the media that you are a tax defaulter. To avoid this and other complications with legal issues and all that, we will advise companies to do the right thing,” he urged.
Ghanaian Dancehall musician, Stonebwoy, has had his own share of trolls after he shared a reaction under Meek Mill’s post, that announced his video shoot at the Jubilee House.
Meek Mill has since been subjected to wild criticisms from Ghanaians after the video went viral on social media.
In the said video, the American rapper was spotted at different locations at the Jubilee House, from the frontage, through the main corridors, in the main conference hall, at a point positioned behind the presidential podium, and later in a sitting area rapping.
This situation has been deemed appalling by a wide section of Ghanaians including celebrities like Beverly Afaglo, Baba Sadiq, Cookietee, A Plus, and others.
Some individuals have also cited moral and security grounds for which such an act should not have been condoned.
But the aggression was transferred to Stonebwoy, whose fire emojis were spotted under Meek Mill’s post.
The Dancehall artiste has since incurred the wrath of Ghanaians as they have perceived his reaction as an indirect support to Meek Mill’s act.
Rupert, who is the wealthiest man in South Africa and the second-richest man in Africa, primarily derives his wealth from his 9.14-percent stake in Richemont, a Swiss luxury goods holding company.
Richemont owns a diverse portfolio of premium brands, including Chloe, Dunhill, Alaa, Cartier, and Delvaux.
The increase in Rupert’s net worth can be attributed to the rise in Richemont’s shares, as investors expect the luxury goods company to deliver strong financial results at the end of the first nine months of its 2023 fiscal year.
This optimism is based on Richemont’s impressive performance in the first half of its current fiscal period, with profits rising by more than 40 percent from €1.5 billion ($1.55 billion) in the same period in 2022 to €2.1 billion ($2.17 billion) at the end of the first six months of 2023.
This builds on the company’s strong results in 2022 when profits increased by 61 percent from €1.289 billion ($1.36 billion) in 2021 to €2.08 billion ($2.2 billion).
As a result of the recent increase in shares of the luxury goods group on the Swiss and Johannesburg stock exchanges, the market value of Rupert’s 9.14-percent stake in the company has risen from $7.71 billion to $8.37 billion.

Ghana international Joseph Paintsil has reacted to Genk’s win over Club Brugge in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
Paintsil started and lasted the entire duration as his outfit inflicted a 3-1 win over Club Brugge on home turf.
In a post sighted by Footballghana.com, the enterprising winger has expressed his joy after helping his side to cruise to their first victory in the league in 2023.
“Important 3 points to get our 2023 started! I thank God for two assists and also a big applause to our fans for the massive support yesterday. Hoping to see y’all on Wednesday” he tweeted.

Four minutes later, the home team restored parity through Carlos Cuesta, with Painstil assisting his sides equalizer. Both teams had to go recess with 1-1 stalemate.
After the break, Genk proved to the stronger side and grabbed their second goal of the match through Nigeria forward Paul Onuachu in the 67th minute mark from Paintsil’s assist.

The Ghana international is enjoying an amazing season, scoring 7 goals and providing 8 assist in 17 matches so far.
Asaase Radio said that the restart will occur at several independent investment firm branches located all throughout the nation.
Databank stated that it “would use a staged strategy to re-opening its physical sites” in an email and text message sent to clients on January 7, 2023.
This development occurs after clients of the investment bank are said to have physically and verbally abused staff members as a result of the bank’s failure to pay them their money.
The investment firm however explained that this was due to ‘liquidity challenges’ as a result of the current economic challenges in the country.
In addition to this, clients of the bank have been clamoring for their investment returns in the wake of the intended domestic debt exchange programme which is expected to impact certain categories of bondholders.
He added that the announcement of the programme culminated in the closure of the secondary market which therefore impacted on the firms’ ability to proceed with bond sales in order to allow clients redeem their investment withdrawal requests.
Some affected individuals by the debt exchange programme are being led by Private Legal Practitioner, Martin Kpebu US comedian Dave Chappelle arrives in Ghana with some cultural moves, to engage the government over the inclusion of individual bondholders in the debt exchange programme.
Although individual investors were initially not part of the debt restructuring exercise, government decided to include individual bondholders in the debt exchange programme some days after pension funds were exempted from the programme.
Martin Kpebu said in an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show that they will, first of all, engage government in negotiation, but should that fail, a class action lawsuit against the government will follow.
“I don’t believe government doesn’t have money. I have looked at the budget and straight away if I look at the projects we intend to do, I believe government can cut back,” he is quoted by myjoyonline.com.
“It’s not like people are asking for freebies, it is their hard-earned money that they lend to government and it is time to pay and government is like no”, Martin Kpebu added.
He also stated that the affected investors do not want any ‘haircut’ on their matured investments.
Medeama coach Umar Rabi believes his side conceded cheap goals when they face Dreams FC in matchday 11 of the Ghana Premier League.
The Still Believe lads inflicted a 4-0 win over the Yellow and Mauves at the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday afternoon.
Two goals in each half condemned the Mauve and Yellows to their heaviest defeat of the season.
Speaking after the game, Umar Rabi asserted his outfit gifted goals to Dreams FC which led to their defeat.
“You saw the game and it was obvious we just gifted the goals to Dreams FC. Look at the goals we conceded. All the goals were gift. Very cheap and avoidable goals,” he told the media
“It’s really unfortunate because we played very well. The two early goals unsettled the players but we’ll go back and correct our mistakes.”
Medeama will turn attention to Nsoatreman in their next Premier League fixture on Wednesday at the Akoon Community Park.
Former Asante Kotoko striker Stephen Manu has backed coach Seydou Zerbo who is currently underfire due to inconsistent results in the Ghana Premier League this season.
Manu slammed the players for not giving their all on the pitch and added that the Porcupine Warriors can’t defend the league title they won last season.
The Porcupine Warriors have only won five of their eleven games, with Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Great Olympics raising concerns among fans and former players.
The 1-1 draw with Oly Dade on Sunday left Kotoko in second position, but on equal points (19) and a point behind leaders Aduana Stars, who have a game in hand.
“The coach is not a problem because his tactics and formation are on point. The truth is that the performance of the boys [players] is not up to scratch. They always struggle in games. Kotoko cannot win the league with this set of players,” he told SirObed TV.
“Look at the defender [Andrews Appau] who replaced the injured [Mubarik Yussif]. A substitute player must come to the game with something different but his introduction rather worsened the performance of the team,”
“He was just lucky with the goal because I’m sure if the goal had not come things could have gone bad. His game doesn’t fit the standard of Kotoko. He is not Kotoko material,”
In a video posted by Oman Media and seen by GhanaWeb, a presidential candidate declared that while he has created thousands of jobs that will employ people, his rivals cannot say the same.
“… someone who can start businesses and provide jobs for everyone. I implore you to ask all the contestants how many jobs they have already created to employ our children even though you want to be president.
At least I have 7,158 people I have employed as workers. All the candidates coming, ask who amongst them has employed at least 300 workers,” he stated.
“ If you know the thinking people do, like this Christmas period having to pay my workers and the attached bonus. There is hardship in the country and money is hard to come by but I had to pay bonuses because the hardship is being felt in their homes and you can’t decide not to pay bonuses. I did not receive pay, I had to sacrifice my salary to make sure that my workers are happy.
“So I do know how you are suffering. My mother sitting here is old and does not have the strength to work but if her son is employed she can say that she didn’t join NPP in vain. But sitting there now nothing shows her party is in power because when her son is seeking for police, immigration, fire service or prisons service recruitment he won’t get,” he added.
The ruling NPP will later this year elect a flagbearer in the hopes of securing a victory in the 2024 presidential election.
Ahead of the election, the likes of Kennedy Agyapong who is currently the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, the outgoing Minister for Trade and Industry Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia have emerged as the frontrunners.
While Vice President Bawumia and Mr Kyerematen have received endorsements from several figures within the current government and the ruling party, Kennedy Agyapong has noted that such endorsements are motivated by individual interests.
“These same people are coming to you asking that you vote for them. The MPs and ministers leading that and telling you whom to vote for are only seeking their self-interest. They behave and act as if they are the only ones created by God to enjoy. So they are coming to tell you whom to vote for amidst coercion but I am telling you bluntly that it should not today that you are going to allow someone to coerce you to vote for someone. They saw you suffer and it will not be today that they are going to tell you whom to vote for,” he stated.
Ghanaian midfielder Amakwah Forson has expressed gratitude to SCR Altach after ending his spell with the club.
The former WAFA star has been recalled by parent club Red Bull Salzburg and is expected to join the club for the rest of the season.
The 19-year-old put up a splendid performance in the Austrian League in his short stint with Altach.
Forson was in great form for Altach, scoring two goals and providing five assists in 18 matches.
“I was warmly welcome by everyone. As short us it was, I learnt so much from everyone and these lessons will be part of me. I wish the club and the fans the very best and hope the team achieve its ambitions. I will be cheering for you!! Thank you Altach!,” he wrote on Instagram with a video of his highlights at Altach.

The intended sale is according to the auction calendar of the Central Bank and will take place under the Forex Forward Auctions.
The amount of $220 million, is however lower than that which was sold in the last quarter of 2022 where the Central Bank sold a total of $420 million to BDCs through commercial banks within the period.
Although it remains unclear whether the intended $200 million sale would be sufficient to sustain the FX needs of BDCs in the country, the BoG plans to sell $80 million in January 2023.
This will be followed by an amount of $60 million each sold to BDCs also taking placing take in February 2023 and March 2023 respectively.
The BoG has also extended an invitation for bids due to the prescribed format to purchase the US dollars against the cedi notes separately on each auction date.
This auction of the American ‘greenback’ will also take place from January 12, 2023, to March 29, 2023.
“Receipts of bids will be made from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on each auction day with the announcement of the auction results made at 3pm on each auction date,” the BoG noted.
Over the course of the year, the aggregate wealth of the Sawiris family, which comprises the fortunes of three billionaires in Egypt—Naguib, Samih, and Nassef Sawiris—fell by $800 million to $11.2 billion.
This loss in net worth is related to Egypt’s economic difficulties, which include a lack of foreign currency, a drop in the value of their own currency, and an increase in inflation.
Despite this decline, the Sawiris family is set to benefit from the Netherlands-based fertilizer producer OCI NV, in which they hold direct and indirect stakes.
the Netherlands-based fertilizer producer is planning to distribute a semi-annual cash return of $730 million to its shareholders in April 2023.
According to its third-quarter earnings report, this distribution will include a base of $200 million for the period ending December 31, following total cash distributions of $1.1 billion in 2022.
OCI N.V. has seen strong growth recently, with revenue increasing 82 percent from $4.1 billion in the first nine months of 2021 to $7.5 billion in the same period of 2022.
This growth was driven by higher selling prices year-on-year for all products, including ammonia, urea, and nitrates. As a result, the company’s net profit reached a record $1.4 billion, up from $284.4 million the previous year.
The IMF resident representative stated in an interview with Graphic Online that Ghana’s administration seeks to increase budgetary transparency, better management of public companies, and address structural difficulties, particularly in the energy and cocoa industries.
As part of measures to address exchange rate challenges and monetary policies, the IMF representative said the Bank of Ghana would continue to strengthen its monetary policy framework and promote exchange rate flexibility to rebuild external buffers.
He further added that reducing inflation, enhancing resilience to external shocks and improving market confidence will be prioritized as part of Ghana IMF’s programme.
“As part of the authorities’ debt strategy, a domestic debt exchange has been launched. The authorities are committed to taking the necessary mitigation measures to ensure financial sector stability is preserved. We will be able to share more details publicly once the programme has been approved by our board, followed by the publication of the related documents,” he disclosed.
Dr Leandro Medina was appointed in September 2022 to assume responsibility as IMF resident representative for Ghana. He took over from Dr Albert Touma Mama following the end of his mission.
Ghana on December 13, 2022 secured a Staff-Level Agreement with the fund for an amount of $3 billion under an Extended Credit Facility. As part of the deal, government has announced plans to undertake a Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.
Under the programme, government is inviting domestic bondholders to voluntarily swap their bonds for fresh ones. It is targeting approximately GH¢137.3 billion of principal amount, outstanding of certain domestic notes and bonds issued by the government.
Two more persons have been arrested in connection with the violent disturbances that occurred during the National Democratic Congress’ National Youth and Women’s Congress held on 10th December 2022, at Cape Coast in the Central Region.
The suspect Iddrisu Abass alias Jango who is believed to be the ring leader and suspect Dawda Mohammed Nazir were arrested at Kintampo and Wenchi in the Bono and Bono East Regions respectively on 8th January 2023.
This brings to four the number of suspects arrested so far in connection with the disturbances.
In the course of the arrest, suspect Jango shot and wounded one of the police officers. The officers returned fire and shot him in the legs.
Both the injured officer and the injured suspect are receiving medical attention and are in stable condition.
“Following the arrest, some youth of Wenchi massed up to attack the police team, but police have since restored law, order, and security in the area. The targeted intelligence operations are still ongoing to arrest the remaining 12 suspects to face justice,” police added in a statement.
The implementation of the complete reversal of the discounts on benchmark values for imported products and automobiles will increase company costs, according to the Association of Customs House Agents, GhanaCustoms Division urges importers to pay duties at banks themselves (ACHAG).
At a media forum hosted by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to examine the effects of the reversal, which became effective on January 1, 2023, Mr. Yaw Kyei, President of ACHAG, anticipated that importers would have to pay higher tariffs, increasing the cost of doing business.
According to Mr. Kyei, these expenses would eventually be passed on to consumers, which would have an impact on the products available on the market.
He observed that some of the wholesalers and retailers before the reversal had the 30 percent discount on general goods absorbed within their profit base, therefore, the reversal would cause a reduction in their profit margin which might make the consider increasing their prices to recover the profits.
He indicated that the discount led to a reduction in smuggling and under invoicing adding that importers also became more willing to clear their goods legitimately.
He disclosed that most importers hurried to pay their duties ahead of the January 01, implementation of the reversal to avoid paying more duties on their goods.
The ACHAG President also stated that importers were unhappy about the reversal, especially with the volatility of the exchange rate which was negatively affecting trade coupled with the impact of the reversal on their businesses.
Mr. Kyei suggested that the government consider applying the discounts on selected groups of products to encourage their importation into the country.
Mr. Justice Yadjayime, Supervisor at the Vehicle Valuation Unit at the Customs Technical Services Bureau (CTSB), on his part explained that the reversal was in line with the government’s economic policy aimed at improving revenue collection this year. Mr. Yadjayime said the reversal was based on findings that the discount did not have any positive impact on the prices of goods on the market.
He said it was also to enable the government to fulfill its commitments to those who assemble vehicles in Ghana to make the market fair.
The Customs Supervisor added however that the discount policy helped to improve tax compliance at the ports, acknowledging that a lot of people reported vehicles they have bought illegally and tried to pay the needed tax on them.
Damar Hamlin remains optimistic as he embarks on a long road to recovery.
On Saturday afternoon, the 24-year-old Buffalo Bills safety took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message to his fans.
“When you put real love out into the world it comes back to you 3x’s as much,” he wrote. “The Love has been overwhelming, but I’m thankful for every single person that prayed for me and reached out. We brung the world back together behind this. If you know me you know this only gone make me stronger. On a long road keep praying for me! ❤️3️⃣ #3strong.”
The post came just days after Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during the Bills’ Jan. 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Just minutes into the first quarter, Hamlin collapsed on the field after tackling Begnals’ wide receiver Tee Higgins. Medical emergency personnel immediately took to the field and began administering chest compressions, as the athletes and spectators looked on. After 10 terrifying minutes, was removed from the field and transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Hamlin’s uncle confirmed the Pennsylvania-born athlete had been placed on a ventilator after suffering lung damage. Though he remained in critical condition at the time, his team took to social media to provide a positive update.
“Damar remains in the ICU in critical condition with signs of improvement noted yesterday and overnight,” the Bills tweeted Wednesday. “He is expected to remain under intensive care as his health care team continues to monitor and treat him.”
The breathing tube was removed several days later, allowing Hamlin to share a few words to his teammates.
“Love you boys,” he reportedly told the Bills during a FaceTime call.
On Friday, Hamlin returned to Instagram to reshare a few posts from his supporters, including his teammate Stefon Diggs.
Diggs was among the Bills players who remained in Cincinnati to be near Hamlin during his recovery.
In just four days, borrowers raised more than $150 billion (R2.56 trillion) in new debt after weeks of rising confidence that 2023 might finally provide respite for the world’s battered bond purchasers.
The sales blitz took place around the globe, with Mexico selling $4 billion of dollar bonds and Credit Suisse Group AG divisions issuing a combined $4.3 billion in US dollars and sterling. Hong Kong raised $5.8 billion through the sale of its largest-ever green bond, raising that amount from investors.
It was a fresh beginning for a market that suffered a whopping 16.25% loss last year. And while investors are off to a quick start in making back some of that money, the pace of this week’s bond rush shows that issuers are bracing for something that’s still very 2022: volatile markets where the opportunity to borrow can slam shut faster than you can say consumer price index.
Barclays Capital’s investment-grade debt syndicate co-head, Meghan Graper, explained the situation last month at a Bloomberg Intelligence event in New York. With so much uncertainty around inflation and the direction of the economy, investor appetite can be easily ruined by any number of data points or policy discussions — CPI, consumer confidence, central bank meetings or speeches.
“Three quarters of supply in any given month this year came in a matter of five business days,” Graper said at the 15 December event. “We’ve had a record setting zero-volume days in the primary market. And then everybody running through the same narrow window.”
The trend is likely to continue this year, she said. Which means companies that need to borrow will not only have to navigate higher interest rates but also the risks of getting the timing wrong. Even on those all-in days, bond buyers can test the market’s limits. After a $53 billion, 48-hour sales binge in the US corporate bond market, investors started demanding larger concessions to buy the debt, Bloomberg’s Brian Smith noted.
China relief
China’s embattled property developers got more good news this week. Beijing is planning to relax the so-called three red lines restrictions it had placed on the sector, which exacerbated one of the biggest real estate meltdowns in history, Bloomberg News reported this week.
The move could be the most significant of a string of measures that China has put in place to bolster the industry, which accounts for about a quarter of the nation’s economy. The nation’s developers defaulted on more than 140 bonds last year, missing payments on a combined $50 billion in domestic and international debt issues.

SSGKobe is denies that he sexually assaulted a woman during a studio session last month.
Two weeks ago, an artist named Ka$hkenni accused the Louisiana rapper of forcing her to have sex with him in a soundproof studio room on November 23.
According to Ka$hkenni, SSGKobe invited her to the studio under the impression he wanted to collaborate with her. Upon arriving at the studio, which was filled with a group of people affiliated with SSGKobe, the 19-year-old allegedly texted Ka$hkenni to enter the recording booth with him.
“He gets up to go back into the recording room,” she wrote on Instagram. “I feel someone staring at me. I look over and he’s standing in the doorway of the room we are in giving me this very demanding and intimidating look. I’m still under the impression that he just wants to talk so I go into the recording room with him.”
“He proceeds to start trying to [take] advantage of me,” she wrote. “He asked me to give him head. I told him ‘no I don’t do that, I don’t wanna do that.’ And I try and move around him in order to leave the room and he steps in front of me to block the door.
“And proceeds to coerce me into doing things with him that I don’t want to do. He never asked for consent. And I was verbally telling him ‘No,’ ‘stop’ and ‘you’re hurting me.’ I was trying to push him off of me. But he ignore[d] all of that.”
Over the weekend, SSGKobe denied the allegations in a statement on social media.
“My parents raised me to respect women,” he wrote. “I practice this each and every day and will continue to live my life abiding by that. Unfortunately, a private matter of consensual sexual relations between two consenting adults has turned into a defamatory public matter against me.”
“The picture being painted is not based on facts. I apologize that my desire to not have a long term relationship with someone was not properly communicated by me, resulting in a false rehashing of events. I will leave this matter to be further addressed by my legal team.”
Ghana and other countries seeking loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will pay additional lending rate, as the Bretton Wood institution has increased the yield on its Special Drawing Rights (SDR) by some 210 basis points (2.1%).
This took effect on January 6, 2022.
Now, the rate of interest on SDR stands at 2.999%, from the previous 0.89%.
One US dollar is also equivalent to 0.753983.
The increase in the interest rate of the SDR indicates that member countries of the IMF will pay more for loans from the Fund.
Ghana is seeking an IMF-support programme to the tune of $3.0 billion that will span a period of about three years to revive its struggling economy.
This means the nation will pay an interest of 2.999% on the $3.0 billion over a period that will be determined by the terms and conditions of the Fund.
Already, the country is already seeking for debt cancellation via the G20 Common Framework programme, despite only poor nations eligible for it.
Reuters said Ghana had reached out to the Paris Club of creditor countries in December 2022 to ask for assurances that the Common Framework process, set up by the Group of 20 leading economies in 2020 in response to COVID-19, could be expedited.
The interest rate on the SDR, according to the Fund, is based on the sum of the multiplicative products in SDR terms of the currency amounts in the SDR valuation basket, the level of the interest rate on the financial instrument of each component currency in the basket, and the exchange rate of each currency against the SDR.
Ghana’s outstanding IMF loans slightly falls to $1.68bn
Ghana’s outstanding loans to the International Monetary Fund fell slightly to 1.28 billion Special Drawing Rights (SDR), equivalent to $1.68 billion as of the end of October 2022.
According to the Fund’s Quarterly Finances, the country is still ranked as number one in Africa with the largest outstanding debt to the Bretton Wood institution.
The outstanding debt represents 8% of the total number of African countries indebted to the Fund.
Three men are on the run after stealing $300,000 from an armored truck in Brooklyn.
The New York Post reports the incident took place in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood on Friday afternoon. According to the NYPD, a Brinks truck driver was making a delivery at Chase Bank at 5423 Eighth Ave. around 1 p.m, when two of the suspects asked the Brinks employee for directions. A third individual used the distraction to steal the bag of cash sitting on the bumper of the armored truck.
“While the employee was distracted, another unknown individual quickly removed a bag that was left unattended on the bumper of the armored Brink’s truck and fled the scene on foot,” police told the outlet.
“They just distracted him while talking to him,” the spokesperson added. “It was a crime of opportunity. Someone saw an opportunity.”
Police say the crooks took off with $300,000 in cash. The driver told authorities that all three suspects were wearing black winter hats and black jackets. He also described each man as having a “medium build.”’
“We can confirm there was an incident involving a Brink’s crew in Brooklyn on Friday and we are working with law enforcement,” the armored-truck company said in a statement Sunday. “At this time, we don’t have any further information to share.”
At 11:45 a.m. ET, spot gold increased 1.5% to $1,861.24 an ounce after declining by almost the same percentage point the previous day. In New York, US gold futures increased 1.4% to trade at $1,866.40 per ounce.
Additionally, US services industry activity contracted for the first time in nearly three years in December, offering evidence that inflation was abating.
“We did see kind of a Goldilocks number for the jobs report this morning … that is we saw a headline jobs number slightly higher than expectations, but we did see a slowdown in wage growth,” David Meger, director of metals trading at High Ridge Futures, told Reuters.
“I don’t really think we saw a lot of information here to change the direction of the Fed, and clearly the market is more focused today on the idea that we are getting closer to the end of those fed rate hikes.”
Jim Wyckoff, senior analyst at Kitco Metals, said gold could continue to trade sideways to higher in the first quarter, having seen new interest on the long side from hedge funds at the start of the New Year.
Ari Fletcher has expressed her frustration with G Herbo, who recently admitted to being unfaithful to his ex during their relationship.
During a recent interview with Yung Miami on an episode of the City Girls’ podcast Caresha Please, Herbo was asked if he cheated on Fletcher with his current fiancée, Taina Williams.
“Am I a cheater? Naw, I wouldn’t say I’m a cheater. I’ve cheated though,” the Chicago rapper admitted.
“Technically, yeah,” he continued. “I was young and I was dumb. I didn’t know no better. I was just doing shit. … I was just cheating. I ain’t gonna say I was just cheating but it’s like me and Ari was in a space—and I done talk to her about this already, I done already said my bid, my peace, and apologized. We was at a space, like I said, mentally like I be going through shit and I gotta like separate myself from shit. Me and her was having our differences but that was no excuse to cheat on her. That’s not why I cheated on her.”
Fletcher, who shares a son with Herbo, responded to her ex’s confession in an online interview.
“I’m not gonna lie, I kind of always wanted him to be upfront and honest. I always felt like it was just me fighting against all of these people, trying to ‘tell my truth,’” she explained.
Fletcher went on, “Now at this point, I don’t really care. Back then, I would’ve loved that. Take this weight up off my shoulders, tell these people that I’m not trippin’.”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has once again mounted its merry-go-round. To have or not to have a so-called early congress has become a quadrennial source of needless tension inside our party.
Our first taste of this bitter and needless squabble was inflicted upon ourselves in 1995.
The party’s constitution clearly stipulates that the flagbearer is to be selected 24 clear months, when in opposition, before the date of the presidential election.
This means that the congress for the selection of the presidential candidate had to be held at the latest before the end of December 1994.
However, there arose within the party strong dissenting voices to delay the choice of the party’s flagbearer for the 1996 presidential election.
As was to be expected, a much larger section of the party was totally against such a move.
They felt it was unbecoming of us to toy with the provision of our constitution for the sake of personal, and often times, unbridled ambitions.
This is how Mr B.J. da Rocha, then National Chairman, addressed the emerging threat in his keynote address to the 4th Annual National Delegates’ Conference at the Great Hall, University of Ghana, Legon on Saturday, August 26, 1995.
Election of party’s presidential candidate
The selection of the party’s candidate for the 1996 presidential election has been the subject of much speculation and, regrettably, has given rise to a great deal of bad feeling within the party.
The party has to elect its candidates for the election. Every member of the party of good standing has the right to offer himself or herself. Must contest for the candidacy generate animosity and controversy?
Can we not have a contest without damaging one another and the party? In due course, a candidate will be elected. Whoever is elected cannot make himself President of Ghana by his individual effort alone.
All of us in the party will have to work hard to win for him the votes which will secure him victory for the party.
It is for the reason that we must do everything to prevent the contest for nomination from degenerating into a bitter and destructive fight among the aspirants.
Already there has developed a heated controversy over the date of electing our candidate. This matter was thoroughly debated by the National Council, after taking all necessary factors into consideration, decided to recommend to this conference that the election of our presidential candidate should take place in March, 1996.
It is a recommendation which I urge this conference to endorse. If we think in terms of the party’s best interest and not the personal convenience of aspirants, then I do not see any reason why there should be any further squabbles over the date of election of our candidates.
By March 1996 we would have had behind us the demanding task of getting our people to register.
We should have laid down the framework for our election campaign and mobilised the necessary man-power and material resources to take off. Remember that our election campaign must take off from the day our candidate is elected.
There is the further consideration that we shall have had time to have done everything possible by way of securing the cooperation of the other opposition parties, if possible.
Already, a committee has been mandated by the National Council to pursue this matter vigorously. I have no doubt that between March and November 1996, we have ample time to conduct an election campaign which should reach its peak at just the right time.
I should like to admonish all aspirants to remember that they are colleagues inside the same party, having identical political interests. None of them can hope to reap any benefit by damaging his opponent either openly or secretly.
Such conduct only harms the party by sowing the seeds of factionalism. You should seek support by impressing on your supporters your own virtues and merits and what you have to offer, not by running down your competitors.
I expect that after this conference, a code of conduct will be drawn up for all aspiring candidates. I expect and fervently hope that we shall soon see the emergence of a new style of campaigning by our presidential aspirants.
National Council meeting
The National Council, the second-highest decision-making body, at a meeting on Friday, December 23, 2022, without a hitherto agenda, goes ahead to undertake the age-old gymnastics of when to hold the various primaries to select candidates.
Right after the meeting, and even before an official communiqué could be issued, a private media outlet, an al-Ahram of some sort, publishes a programme with specific dates and timelines for the upcoming primary not speculatively, but in a matter-of-fact fashion. This publication has since been exposed as a total fabrication.
The party has since issued a statement to the effect that no such decisions were taken as reported. Why such a brazen audacity to deceive? One may only surmise that it amounts to nothing more than a nefarious attempt either to impose a narrow will on a silent majority or in a usual style, “mafia” some people to their detriment and gain an undeserved advantage of others.
So here we are in 2022, and like the Bourbons, we learnt nothing so we forgot nothing, and are, therefore, back to this unwholesome, circular argument, largely driven by inordinate and unbridled narrow ambitions.
The main argument seems now to have been reduced to the imagination that we will need sufficient time to heal wounds, smoothen ruffled feathers and assuage wounded sentiments. The sensible question for me is, why inflict wounds and ruffle feathers in the hope of healing and assuaging?
And what do we regard as sufficient time? There are still petty peeves hanging and dividing us since 2008 with top-ups from 2012. What makes us think that wounds which have been deliberately and consciously infected can heal or heal this fast so as to become the basis of a rapprochement?
To add insult to injury, we have now adopted the “criminal” language of La Mafia into our internal lexicon in describing the shameful and underhand methods by which we gleefully ride roughshod over ourselves for petty gain, but to the detriment of the collective interest and brand.
Setting specific dates for elections
We are the party that forced the argument of holding national elections on specific dates, and rightly so. It was done to eliminate the manipulative and surprise elements out of calling national elections at the behest of the Electoral Commissioner, which did not and should not have such a mandate. And we, who gained this noble achievement, cannot gain same for our own party?
I hear in my mind’s ears, the argument of granting ourselves some flexibility in the language of our party’s constitution. Unfortunately, the truth of the matter and our disposition has already been to misuse the discretion to the detriment of those we perceive to be our internal opponents.
It is better to be put into constitutional structures and only relax them by special resolutions as and when the matter becomes self-evident, and not vice versa.
For those, who have made it their game to “mafia” opponents, both at the parliamentary and presidential primaries, they ought to think hard and pin their eyes on the lessons of history and our own track record- a record that firmly resists ossified dictatorship and impositionists.
Our elders say, “sɛ wo tietia obi deɛ so hwehwɛ wo deɛ a, wo renhunu”, to wit, if you trample on what belongs to others in search of what may legitimately be yours, you will never find it.
It is also said that, “those who destroy others to succeed will surely meet destruction at the gate of their own success.
The majority leader in parliament has intimated that the government of Ghana will step up the collection of property rates in 2023 as a strategy to increase its tax revenue for development.
He believes that many people and organizations in the nation own large homes yet frequently underpay or completely ignore their tax obligations to the government.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu backed his argument with statistics from the National Statistical Service.
“In most of our regional capitals like Kumasi and Accra, looking at buildings that belong to individuals, some are worth more than a million dollar some of them more than two million dollars when you do valuation.
“With regards to commercial houses like hotels and others, you can get some valued at more than 50million dollars some close to 100 million dollars. How much do they pay on property rate?” he argued.
According to him, the move by government will go a long way to help the country because that is one of the main revenue sources for most governments in developed countries.
“When you go to developed countries, the local councils develop their area with money generated from property rates,” he revealed.

Some Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) say they are not perturbed about the push for an Alan-Bawumia presidential ticket ahead of the 2024 elections.
Recently there have been open campaigns for former Trade Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who both have an interest in contesting the presidential primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Many have also attributed the decision by Mr. Kyerematen to resign as a move to give him full concentration for the race.
Some political analysts have proposed that Dr. Bawumia should be paired with Alan to form a formidable team ahead of the 2024 general elections.
But reacting to the development, the NDC says whoever the NPP chooses as a flagbearer will not shake the NDC.
The Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, said, the former Trade Minister failed to impact the nation positively during his tenure hence cannot pull any surprises.
“The Alan-Bawumia [push] can be as many as ten, take it from me, we [NDC] do not care. We know them, nothing comes out of an empty sack. Alan Kyerematen has been the Trade Minister for more than six, or seven years, what has happened? He has not impacted positively on this nation. So why should we be afraid of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen or Bawumia?” the legislator asked.
Mr. Akandoh added that the Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, has been deceiving Ghanaians since 2016, stressing that Ghanaians cannot be caught up in his web anymore.
“You know Bawumia [Vice President], what I’m happy about is that Ghanaians know him better, he came to lie to us before 2016, and he went scot-free. He lied again in 2020, but this time round, the first fool may not be a fool, the second fool may not be a fool but the third one,” he stated.
Netizens have reacted to a video of popular Ghanaian ‘Tik Tokers’, Felicia Osei and Hajia Bintu, captured in a tense atmosphere while sitting next to each other at an event.
Although it is unclear whether there is a hidden feud between the two, social media users claim to have spotted friction between them during the UTV Day with the Stars.
Hajia Bintu was captured in a pensive mood with her eyes fixed on the activities carried out on stage at that particular moment.
In the case of Felicia, she felt uncomfortable in her seat and also had all her attention on the stage.
At one point, she [Felicia] was seen rolling her eyes and giving side stares at her colleague.
While some have argued that they are not engaged in any feud whatsoever, others are insisting that they can ‘smell a rat.’
“Why do I sense an awkward moment between these two? I’m sure something isn’t right,” an individual reacted to the video which is making rounds on the internet.
“I think minding one’s business is the key. Now u can’t make friends because tomorrow you might be threatened with recordings and picture evidence here and there, so now this is the new remedy oooo,” said another.

To begin and carry out its Alternative Livelihood Project, Meridian Ports and Services Limited (MPS) has started relationships with important governmental agencies and civil society organizations.
The goal of the project, which will be unveiled by Terminal Three’s operators at the Tema Port, is to open doors and provide opportunities for those living in the nearby fishing communities.
As part of a donation to fishing communities in Tema, Nungua, Ningo, Prampram, and Kpone in the Greater Accra Region, MPS gave 2,000 bundles of fishing nets and 35 Yamaha outboard motors (each with 40 horsepower).
The communities, in addition to the above items, received two canoes with accessories, all valued at GH¢6,000,000.00.
Mr Samara noted that the Port in itself was an economic infrastructure for other businesses to spring up, which would employ more people.
The Meridian Ports and Services Sea Turtle Hatchery was another project intended to rescue endangered species and promote biodiversity, he noted.
Turtles perform diverse roles in nature by having the types that act like grass mowers and creating habitats for fishes to thrive, while others feed on the jellyfish, which are notorious for eating young fishes, thus reducing the depletion of fish stock.

Xavi expects taking “three golden points” off Atletico Madrid to give Barcelona “tremendous morale and confidence” in the LaLiga title race.
Ousmane Dembele scored the only goal of the game at the Civitas Metropolitano on Sunday to put Barca three points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table.
The Blaugrana defended resolutely to take full advantage of Madrid’s 2-1 defeat at Villarreal on Saturday, Ronald Araujo clearing off the line to deny Antoine Griezmann a stoppage-time equaliser against his former club.
Stefan Savic and Ferran Torres were sent off for a late off-the-ball clash, but that did not take the gloss off a big win for Barca in the absence of suspended striker Roberto Lewandowski.
Barca had been held to a frustrating draw by Espanyol in their first LaLiga game after the World Cup, so Xavi knew the importance of beating Diego Simeone’s side in the capital.
He said: “It’s a victory, but it’s not just three points, it gives us tremendous morale and confidence for the remainder of the league.
“We are capable of winning in a field as difficult as this, suffering, being a family. Without playing as excellently as we did against Espanyol, today we have known how to suffer and we took three golden points. We hit the table to be candidates for this league [title].”
Xavi added: “Three golden points. We have taken advantage of our chance. They have pressed, and we have known how to suffer.
“And how important it is to keep a clean sheet. Just as I said on the Espanyol game that we deserved more, today perhaps without playing so well we got three points.”
Captain Sergio Busquets felt the manner in which Barca dug deep to see out the win bodes well.
He said: “We started well, and we went ahead, but from then on they have pressed very well, it was difficult for us to have the ball and create chances.
“In the second half, although they came out very strongly, we managed to control the game. In the end, we suffered, but three very good points.”
