Alcohol will not be sold to fans at the World Cup’s eight stadiums in Qatar after Fifa changed its policy two days before the start of the tournament.
Alcohol was set to be served “in select areas within stadiums”, despite its sale being strictly controlled in the Muslim country.
Those in corporate areas of stadiums at the tournament will still be able to purchase alcohol.
The World Cup starts on Sunday when Qatar play Ecuador.
Budweiser, a major sponsor of Fifa, is owned by beer maker AB InBev and had exclusive rights to sell beer at the World Cup.
“Following discussions between host country authorities and Fifa, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the Fifa fan festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing sales points of beer from Qatar’s Fifa World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters,” said a statement from world football’s governing body.
“There is no impact to the sale of Bud Zero which will remain available at all Qatar’s World Cup stadiums.
“Host country authorities and Fifa will continue to ensure that the stadiums and surrounding areas provide an enjoyable, respectful and pleasant experience for all fans.
“The tournament organisers appreciate AB InBev’s understanding and continuous support to our joint commitment to cater for everyone during the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022.”
Budweiser posted a message on Twitter on Friday saying, “Well, this is awkward” before the post was later deleted.
An AB InBev spokesperson said that they could not proceed with “some of the planned stadium activations” because of “circumstances beyond our control”.
The Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) criticised the timing of the decision to ban the sale of beer for most fans.
“Some fans like a beer at a game and some don’t, but the real issue is the last minute U-turn which speaks to a wider problem – the total lack of communication and clarity from the organising committee towards supporters,” said an FSA spokesperson.
“If they can change their minds on this at a moment’s notice, with no explanation, supporters will have understandable concerns about whether they will fulfil other promises relating to accommodation, transport or cultural issues.”
In August, Fifa changed the start date of the World Cup so that the first game of the competition would be Qatar facing Ecuador.
The game was scheduled to be played on 21 November as the third game, with Senegal against the Netherlands set to be the opening match earlier that day.
Ofori-Atta asserted that the assertion was untrue since he had adhered with all rules and regulations while acting in his capacity as finance minister.
Instead, he claimed that the Minority’s actions in Parliament last year were what caused the havoc, mistrust, and subsequent investor withdrawals.
He told the Ad Hoc Committee of Parliament hearing the censure motion brought against him by the Minority that, “I have not been reckless in the management of the fiscal operations of the government.”
“Hon co-chairs, the ground of recklessness presupposes that I have not been guided by the laid-down regulations. I want to state that I have not been reckless in the management of the fiscal operations of the government.
“Rather, our strenuous efforts to protect the public purse is what has helped this government to have achieved much, much more than any government over a similar period in virtually all sectors, including education, health, social welfare, policing, security in general, roads, railways, agriculture, industrialization, tourism, digitization, and funding for anti-corruption institutions,” he said.
“On all those occasions, I received approval as Parliament subsequently passed Appropriations Bills for all those budgets. Every key expenditure made has been supported by this House.
“Indeed, we all saw the dire consequences when the House, for months, refused to pass a major revenue generation item introduced by this government to support the fiscal stability of the economy.
“Sadly, the Minority Leader, when this government was compelled to approach the Fund this year, triumphantly took credit for frustrating the government’s efforts to meet its half-year revenue targets,” Ofori-Atta said.
A video allegedly showing a Charlotte, North Carolina woman being physically attacked in a hotel room in Mexico has prompted an FBI investigation.
WBTV News reports that the woman, 25-year-old Shanquella Robinson went to Cabo, Mexico with a group of friends on Oct. 28, and she never made it back home, tragically dying on the trip. Her story and the video have since gone viral on social media.
Now, Robinson’s parents, Bernard and Salamondra Robinson want to find out what happened. Mexican authorities and the young woman’s friends reportedly told the family that Shanquella died from alcohol poisoning, but her death certificate reveals that she died from a severe spinal cord injury.
“[I] spoke with her Friday evening she was having dinner and I never spoke with her again,” Salamondra told the news outlet. “On Saturday evening, they called and said she wasn’t feeling well, and they were going to call a doctor. And when they called, the doctor hadn’t arrived yet, but they said she had alcohol poisoning.”
5 Killed in Raleigh, North Carolina Shooting, 15-Year-Old Suspect in Custody (UPDATE)
“After they said it was alcohol poisoning, we received the autopsy report on Thursday and it said that her neck had been broken and she had a back spasm there was a crack, spinal cord was crack,” her parents added. “That took it to a whole ‘nother level because that meant somebody had attacked her.”
Her family has since reported her death to the FBI. The context surrounding the footage is unclear and it’s unknown if the fight led to any fatalities.
Robinson’s funeral is scheduled for this coming weekend in Charlotte. “All I’ve been doing is just crying trying to figure out what happened,” her father, Bernard said. “I can’t even be a grandfather, can’t even walk her down the aisle, she’s gone.”
According to her, married women who take money from their husbands before having sexual intercourse with them are prostitutes.
The singer in an interview on TV XYZ, also advised women to desist from demanding money and gifts before having sexual intercourse with their husbands.
“If you take money from your husband for sex it means you are a prostitute”, Diana Hamilton has said adding that “If it happens that way then that is prostitution. A woman who does that is equal to a commercial sex worker”, she added.
Diana Hamilton further noted that, even if wives would want to demand money from their husbands in exchange for something, it shouldn’t be sex.
“Why do you have to wait till sex time before you demand money from your husband? Taking money from your husband before sex is not right”, she emphasized.
In her view, the husband and wife are one flesh and love is given without expecting hence since both couples have become one, they have to make love freely and not to sell love.
Speaking to men who also deny their wives the responsibility of providing for them, Diana Hamilton counseled that, men must do everything possible to provide for them to avoid anything that will destroy their marriages.
“And to that man when the woman needs something give it to her”, she insisted.
In 2005, Diana Hamilton got married to Joseph Okoi Hamilton and the two have been together ever since, with her husband (a medical doctor) helping in managing her music career.
A technology-based world and society, particularly for people and enterprises, has led to an increase in account-related cyber fraud events, which calls for immediate action.
Sitsofe Elloh, a cyber forensic analyst at the e-Crime Bureau, stated on GhanaWeb TV’s BizTech that ATO occurs when criminals use digital tools to access a financial bank account and seize control of it.
He explained that these cyber criminals have a variety of techniques at their disposal to achieve this purpose including; phishing, malware, and man-in-the-middle attacks, among others.
Touching on the impact of ATO fraud, Sitsofe Elloh said not only individuals are affected but financial institutions and their customers tend to face financial losses and data breaches.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has advised against supposed attempts to blame him for situations that he believes were not caused by him.
The Minister insists that his deeds, since assuming the role of managing the public purse, have been diligent, adding that the ongoing economic turmoil cannot be pinned on him.
He said this during proceedings of the Ad-hoc Committee probing the motion of censure against him.
“Let us all work as one country to support our labour negotiations, find a solution to the impasse in Parliament and rise above witch-hunting and entrapment,” Mr Ofori-Atta said.
The Minister told the Committee that these “are not enabling and progressive for a society seeking transformation.”
The Minister appeared before the Committee on Friday to respond to the grounds which were presented by the Minority as justification for his removal.
Addressing the 8-member Committee, the Minister insisted that stakeholders must rally around the country to find a lasting solution.
He says the pain suffered by Ghanaians is acknowledged for which reason he has resolved “to serve with my all” to steer the country into economic stability.
Artiste/music producer Magic Rocker has expressed his disappointment with the unappreciative nature of young artistes to their investors.
According to Magic Rocker who is currently based in the US, he has invested in many young talents but the relationships have ended badly.
“As a successful producer and DJ in the US, I came to Ghana to help young talented artistes and the experience was frustrating. I invested in young talents but they ended up dictating to me after getting some fame.
“They demand so much and when you cannot keep up with their demands, then they leave you. I have had many of such experiences and I wonder why it is so,” he told Graphic Showbiz in an interview.
He said it was about time young artistes appreciated music investors’ efforts and did away with huge demands within a short period.
“Some of us are no longer interested in helping young talents again due to some of these things. When we start working, I expect young artistes to understand that it takes time to reap from this music business but these young artistes do not understand. They keep on asking for things beyond your means,” he stated.
Talking about our music industry, Magic Rocker-born Richard Essien said we should prioritize Highlife because it identifies us as Ghanaians.
“I am not saying the other genres of music are not good but we should make a conscious effort to promote Highlife which is Ghanaian,” he opined.
Magic Rocker has released a new single Like Sugar. A fusion of Jama and Hiplife. Like Sugar, sang in Ewe is the first official single off his upcoming 12-track album titled Vernacular.
He also advised musicians to think of the business side of music and not to rush and put their music online just because they want to be popular.
“We need to have a way of monetising our music than just posting it online for people to download. We cannot move forward when we continue doing that after paying so much to record a song,” he added.
According to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, the government is depending on the success of the YouStart program to support young entrepreneurs in getting access to finance, training, and technical skills that would allow them to launch, grow, and own their enterprises.
The program aims to encourage young people and students between the ages of 18 and 40 who have great ideas and viable enterprises, helping them to develop, grow, and extend their companies while also generating new jobs for the economy.
Speaking at the District Entrepreneurship component launch of the YouStart programme on Monday, November 14, 2022, Mr. Ofori-Atta said government intends to build an entrepreneurial nation through the programme by providing some of the key enablers which make entrepreneurship a success.
These include training and capacity building, access to market, technology and procurement opportunities, business development support services, access to finance (up to GH¢500,000) and compliance and quality assurance support, the minister said.
“In truth, we cannot turn around our economy if opportunities are centralised in the capital. Our economic restoration demands we do things differently. That will involve sharing prosperity and the chance at progress to everyone.
“We believe that once we continue to embrace the vision of creating an entrepreneurial society, we know we can make all individuals and their families better-off across living standards and quality of life,” he added.
Acknowledging that “life is tough” for many people in Ghana, Mr. Ofori-Atta, who spoke through his deputy, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring the country “comes out of this together with one of the strongest and most resourced youth demographics this nation has ever seen.
“It will not be easy, but I need you to work with us and support us as I do same for you. But amid all these challenges, I believe that the worst thing we can do is give up on ourselves and our nation,” he added.
Through the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project, an amount has been set aside to provide skills and financing support (grants) to youths under the Youstart programme.
Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, said the agency will be providing entrepreneurship training to 50,000 youths who have the potential to start a business; as well as support 5,000 of them with start-up grants under the District Entrepreneurship component.
She said the portal will be open for a period of six weeks, after which eligible applicants will be invited for a readiness-screening and needs assessment; and the entrepreneurship training will be in 3 modules – basic level for a total of 5 days; intermediate level for a total of 10 days; and advanced level for a total of 15 days.
“Applicants at the advanced level will be eligible for coaching and mentoring support to assist them finalise business plans, conduct market research, formalisation support and test their products on the market,” Mr. Yankey-Ayeh said.
YouStart Component
YouStart is grouped into three (3) sub-programmes, namely: YouStart District Entrepreneurship Programme targetted at Group businesses; Start-ups with founders under the age of 40; and university graduates, high school leavers, TVET – Vocational/Diploma certificate holders. Under this component, beneficiaries are entitled to loans at reduced interest rates and grants.
The grant component will be called the Youstart Ghana Jobs and Skills Project. This will be implemented by the Ghana Enterprise Agency and National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programmme, with support from the National Youth Authority, Ghana TVET Service and NABCO.
Under the Youstart Commercial Programme by participating Financial Institutions, financial institutions will give out loans at reduced interest rates without collateral. Targets include Medium and Small-Scale Enterprises with founders under the age of 40; or founders above the age of 40 but with, at least, 50 percent of their staff aged between 18- 40 years.
YouStart Grace will be targetted at faith-based organisations across the country.
Ghanaian gospel singer, Evangelist Diana Asamoah, has leveled some damning accusations against popular broadcaster, Captain Smart.
The allegations were made during an interview with Zionfelix when the discussion switched from showbiz to politics.
This was in a bid to address some earlier claims by Captain Smart that she (Diana Asamoah) became corrupt ever since she joined the NPP.
Captain Smart is noted for his constant fights against the ruling NPP government and in one of his rants on TV, Diana Asamoah, who happens to be a staunch member of the party was dragged into it.
The Onua TV broadcaster chided the singer for re-affirming her support for the party even in the midst of the country’s current economic downturns.
“As for you Diana Asamoah, the least said about you the better. Ever since you pledged your loyalty to this corrupt administration, you’ve been wearing wigs, make-up, and high heels. These were the same things you condemned and even classified as products of the marine world. You have also become corrupt like them,” Captain Smart averred on his Onua Makye show.
A peeved Diana Asamoah decided to also hit back.
“He Captain Smart said I am corrupt?” she questioned while making sexual allegations without proof against the broadcaster.
“He is worse than I am. For someone who sleeps with another person’s wife, spends her money and abandons her, what moral right does he have to tell me that? Captain has never spoken the truth. He is the father of all liars. He is the devil himself. Captain is a womanizer who goes round spending people’s money and the victims even end up dying. You know someone is married yet you go around chasing her. It even happened in Belgium.”
Diana Asamoah, however, vowed that Captain Smart will one day hang his boots and succumb to the NPP.
“There are people who we shouldn’t respond to when they talk. Whatever he does, he will bow before the NPP one day, I am telling you this. Mark it, because my party will never lose. We serve a living God.”
Kuami Eugene has reiterated the struggles he had to endure at the onset of his career leading him to make some of the toughest yet best decisions of his life.
According to the 2020 VGMA Ariste of the Year, he had to put on hold buying expensive outfits and rather focus on saving money that could rent a better apartment for his mother and siblings who were in financial difficulty a few years ago as a breadwinner.
The celebrated singer in a Twitter Space with Sincerely Accra Podcast on November 17 indicated that he felt heartbroken when the masses mocked him for his poor fashion sense.
Kuami Eugene explained that he had to limit his spending because of his dream of building his mother a house and also catering for his family whom he explained were not wealthy like the parents of his label mates.
“When I came to Lynx Entertainment, trust me, I actually had nothing. My parents didn’t have money and you can’t compare me to some artiste I came with because they were living in their parent’s house. My mum, my dad, my siblings, and myself were living in a rented apartment. It wasn’t okay for all of us.
“The time everybody was talking about my shoes and dress, trust me, I was trying to put things together. The things these other artiste had to go to the boutique to put together, I had to go to Kantamanto… so you can’t compare the two of us. People will say these things without knowing my pocket,” Eugene disclosed.
The Lynx Entertainment signee who is out with a tune titled ‘Single’ for the first time opened up about the sacrifices he had to make at the expense of being mocked for wearing ‘cheap’ outfits that didn’t suit his calibre as one of Ghana’s biggest musicians.
He added that his aim was to change his family’s story and get them a better life and looking back today, there are no regrets as his mum is in a better state.
“The first thing I was thinking of was to find a good place for my mum to stay…I wasn’t thinking of what to wear but how to fix my mum’s life because the English I am speaking today is because she put me through good education.
“I had to find somewhere better for her to stay before thinking of putting on a Louis Vuitton or a nice t-shirt that will cost like GH200. It was too much for me back then,” said Kuami Eugene.
Ghanaian actress Xandy Kamel has lamented the unexplained hate directed at her by Ghanaians for all this year including some social media users bullying her at the slightest opportunity.
Xandy explained that constant bullying has led her to depression adding that it might lead to her death. In a recent interaction with fans, she couldn’t fathom why the masses dislike her.
“Ghanaians don’t love me. When a Nigerian loves you, it is genuine. They will wholeheartedly love you but that cannot be said of a Ghanaian. I don’t even have a fanbase. Critics go and attack me under pages created in my name. I will just die,” declared the actress.
Xandy and former wife of sports presenter, Kaninja, in the viral video also lashed out at a Ghanaian nurse who claimed to hate her.
The young woman whom Xandy identified as a nurse wrote that she hates the actress. This resulted in the actress’s decision to expose the face behind the page and also rain curses on her.
She prayed for the worst things in life to befall her critic and also wished evil in her life. According to the actress, she has come to terms with the hate a section of Ghanaians have for her but that could not stop her from clapping back at critics.
“Maamelov3, you say you hate me. Well noted, this is her face, she is a nurse. Funny enough you don’t even follow me on my page. You hate me?…I will show you where power lies. Just as a piece of charcoal is reduced to ashes after burning, so will your life be. You will experience a sudden downfall…you will suffer in life and will never know peace. Your family will come in search of me to save you. Your life will be as dark as charcoal, mark my words,” these were the words of Xandy Kamel after being subjected to cyberbullying.

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a commercial sex worker into police custody over alleged human trafficking.
Miriam Braim pleaded not guilty to attempted human trafficking and human trafficking. She will make her next appearance in court on November 29, 2022.
Her accomplice whose name was only given as Mary is on the run.
Police Chief Inspector Isaac Anquandah told the Court presided over Madam Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie that the complainant was a casual labourer whilst Miriam, the accused person, was a commercial sex worker.
He said both complainant and the accused were Nigerians living in Ghana and that in December 2021, the accused person and Mary, currently in Nigeria and a friend of the accused person, visited Ghana to engage in prostitution.
The prosecution said after their three months stay together in Kasoa, Ghana, a misunderstanding ensued between them and they went their separate ways, where Mary went back to Nigeria whilst Miriam remained in Ghana and moved to stay at Mempeasem at East Legon.
It said Mary in Nigeria allegedly recruited and transported Mutia Osman, the victim to Ghana, saying, she was welcomed by the accused person on Saturday, October 1, 2022, who took her home.
The accused person, the court heard, attempted to exploit the victim in prostitution but the victim pleaded that she was only 18 years and a virgin but the accused allegedly turned down the plea.
The prosecution said the accused person allegedly went out with the victim for two days and engaged her in commercial sex.
It said on the second day of their outing, the victim sensed danger and jumped into a private car, which sent her to the East Legon Police Station where she lodged a complaint to the police.
The prosecution said on October 7 22, the police accompanied the victim to the residence of the accused and had her arrested.
The case was later referred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit at the Headquarters where after investigations, the accused was arraigned.
“I have never provided Parliament with inaccurate data.
It is wholly untrue,” he declared.
This was in reaction to Ground Four of the minority’s censure resolution, which called for the Minister to be dismissed.
He told the Ad hoc committee on Friday, “I have served the country with integrity and honesty,” saying there has been increased responsibility in the handling of the public funds.

Nigerian singer, Kizz Daniel, has stated that his current hit single, ‘Cough (Odo)’, is an appreciation to Ghanaians for massively supporting his earlier song, Buga which was released months ago.
Explaining why he employed the catchy Ghanaian phrase ‘Odo yewu’ in his latest banger, Kizz Daniel said when Buga was released, it stayed at the top of the charts for a long time in Ghana as compared to other African countries.
The Buga song, since its release, has over 91 million views on YouTube, and over 100 million streams on Boomplay.
It has also enjoyed massive airplay in Ghana and has been streamed by millions of Ghanaians.
“Buga stayed at number 1 in Ghana the longest, out of all the African countries. So, I was like ‘big love to Ghana. My new song explains it all. I’m grateful for where I am now but I want to be more, I mean the next level. This is very possible because of my fans worldwide, particularly Ghana,” the Nigerian singer disclosed this during an interview with JoyFM’s Lexis Bill.
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has described as unfortunate the Minority’s claims that he misrepresented data to Parliament.
Appearing before a parliamentary ad-hoc committee probing the censure motion against him, he vehemently denied the accusations.
“The issue of deliberate misreporting of data to Parliament is not just unfortunate but simply untrue. I am for that matter, the Ministry of Finance has never misreported data to Parliament as it has been alleged,” he told the committee on Friday.
Ghanaians for some months have been calling for the resignation of the Finance Minister due to the country’s economic crisis including the fast depreciation of the cedi, high-interest rates and elevated debt levels.
The frequent complaints coupled with some discrepancies the Minority in Parliament identified under the leadership of Mr Ofori-Atta, the NDC MPs filed a censure motion against the said Minister.
Defending himself before the 8-member committee, the Finance Minister said the ground relating to the fiscal data misrepresentation is false.
“They alleged that different sets of data were presented to the people of Ghana and IMF, that is untrue,” he stated.
The dismissal of the allegation is not the only accusation he’s denied while taking the ‘witness box’.
On the ground of the National Cathedral, Mr Ofori-Atta dispelled the claim that he illegitimately withdrew money from the Consolidated Fund without Parliamentary approval.
He also dismissed assertions that he’s been reckless in the fiscal management of the economy.
According to him, despite the global pressures on the economy has been to protect the public purse.

Luther Azamati, also known as Papi, of the music group 5Five, has admitted that the group has disbanded after previously denying that the group had split up.
The artiste mentioned on Pulse One on One that the group, unlike other groups, left on mutual grounds to pursue other interests.
Nonetheless, Papi claims efforts to unite them have proven futile since Jeffery Opoku Agyekum, known popularly as Killy, had already found himself something to do, making it hard for them to focus on pushing the group.
“I am just there minding my own business and drinking coconut water. Just living my life. Chale life short oo, so you for enjoy. Since the good 5Five is no more.
“Nothing really happened to 5five. I think we just went off all of a sudden. I think it was a decision we made by ourselves just to sort some things out,” he said.
According to Papi, although he tried his best to bring the group together, Killy got so busy with his personal life that it became impossible.
He also discussed his solo move to promote the group’s name, revealing that he released two singles between 2021 and 2022.
“I tried to bring them back but some of them got busy. I felt they lost interest in the music business. There was nothing like a fight or anything like that, we are still cool.
“I think I have two songs out. The first one is ‘Boys Taya’ and which was dropped on the December 3, 2021, and my new song which I dropped five months ago featured Mr Drew and Krymi and is called, Location” he added.
In previous interviews, Papi had disclosed that the 5five music group wasn’t dead and that the group had been busy with other things.
5five was made up of two young men from the ghettoes of Adabraka, namely Luther Azamati (Pappi) and Jeffery Opoku Agyekum (Killy).
Their music was a fusion of several genres that have crossover appeal. They came from nowhere to win the hearts of many with their reggaeton anthem, African Gurl featuring Diodjo.
Child Right International (CRI) has asked the Ghana Education Service (GES) not to render an unjust treatment to some female students of Chiana Senior High School (SHS) who were seen in a video slandering President Akufo-Addo.
It will be recalled that about four female students believed to be in their second year in the Kassena Nankana West District denigrated the President for failing to recover Ghana’s dwindling economy.
In a viral video, these students were heard saying“Akufo-Addo, why? Why? We need your head for money rituals,” they shouted while using other unprintable words.
The GES, reacting to the audio-visual content released a press statement assuring the President and Ghanaians that the development will be investigated and the right punishment applied accordingly.
Responding to the GES’ press statement, the Executive Director of Child Rights International, Bright Appiah pleaded with the service to be considerate when issuing punitive measures against these young.
He stated that the students should not be victimized but rather should be reformed.
He explained that, “when children exhibit things that are abnormal the interest of the state is to correct that abnormality. The system of correcting that behaviour is not a kind of system that should bring victimization. It is not a kind of system that should tarnish the image of the children but it should be the system that will reform them and then rehabilitate them so that they can see things from the normal perspective in terms of how the state expects children will behave at the particular age and all that.”
“Looking at all the concerns raised by Ghana Education Service and also the judge of the region. It clearly points to the fact that something went wrong and that thing must be corrected. But what will be of concern to us is that the state itself sees that behaviour as abnormal and the process of engaging to correct them is what we call the rehabilitation program that needs to be instituted.
Mr Bright Appiah asked the government to implement good rehabilitation systems to deal with children who exhibit abnormal conduct.
This, he believes will help transform recalcitrant children in our society.
The Black Stars of Ghana are getting ready to leave Abu Dhabi for Doha ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Coach Otto Addo and his charges have been camping in the United Arab Emirates capital for the past four days to fine tune his squad for the global showpiece.
The team is expected to will arrive in Doha this evening to continue with preparations for the World Cup finals.
Ghana concluded their 2022 World Cup preparation in Abu Dhabi with a 2-0 friendly win over Switzerland on Thursday at the Zayed Sports complex.
Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Serlom Semenyo scored in the second half to ensure the West Africans head into the World Cup on a high note.
Black Stars. who are the lowest-ranked team at the tournament have been drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
Ghana will take on Portugal in their first game on November 24 before playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2 respectively.
Ghana secured a 4th FIFA World Cup tournament having participated in 2006, 2010, and 2014 in Germany, South Africa, and Brazil after drawing 1-1 against Nigeria in the return leg of the final play-offs at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja to seal qualification on the away goals rule.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup takes place between November 20 and December 18, 2022.
Only three sides from the continent have ever progressed to the quarter-finals; Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.
Ghana will be hoping to progress from the group stage at this year’s tournament.
Below are photos of the team at the hotel getting ready to leave Abu Dhabi:
Statesman and Politician, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has stated that the Akufo-Addo-led government has failed in executing its mandate since it assumed office.
According to him, he will not rate the administration anything above two out of ten, as it hasn’t made efforts to turn the country’s economic crisis around.
“I will rate them two out of 10, we have retrogressed…when I say we are a failed state, I know what I am talking about. This government is not functioning…That surprises me because I know Nana Addo was not like that. What has happened? I am surprised. The Nana Akufo-Addo that I know is not the one ruling Ghana now,” he said.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, November 16, he said gone were the days he held the government in high esteem because it seemed to be performing its duties efficiently, and thus, he assumed the current administration was the best to make Ghana a better place.
“I was asked this question sometime ago, and I say that having been able to handle this country for at least four years at that time now we are in the 6th year I will give them four out of 10 at that time. Now I will go lower, I will give them 2 out of 10. In fact, we are a failed state, this nation is now a failed nation, people do what they like,” he added.
The founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) further added that he is amazed at how the government is showing less concern in terms of caring for citizens as it promised to before coming to power.
Recently, prices for products and services have skyrocketed, and as a result of the rise in fuel prices, the cost of transportation has swelled up by more than four times.
Currently, the nation’s inflation rate is 40.4%, the highest ever.
Meanwhile, there have been numerous calls for the immediate removal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, following this development.
They argue that his removal will help restore confidence in Ghana’s economy, that has been saddled with debt and high inflation.
Commenting on this, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe said President Akufo-Addo being reluctant to terminate Mr Ofori-Atta’s contract raises concerns as that is long overdue.
Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is a Ghanaian statesman and politician. He was the president of the Ghana Football Association from 2001 to 2005 and Ghana’s ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro from 2005 to 2009. He is a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The embattled Finance Minister says the controversial National Cathedral project belongs to Ghana fully.
Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta said the project does not belong to President Akufo-Addo as asserted in some circles.
According to him, Ghanaians will enjoy the full benefits of the project and not the President.
“National Cathedral is 100 percent owned by the state and is not the President’s cathedral as described by the proponents,” he said when he appeared before the Ad hoc Committee hearing the censure motion against him on Friday.
Touching on the expenditure for the controversial project, he said he has not breached any laws in that regard.
He disclosed that the monies that have been disbursed for use for the project were from the contingency vault.
According to him, this practice is not new as was done by the previous Mahama-led administration.
Mr. Ofori-Atta said he has in his possession several evidence to prove his claim.
“Expenditures in respect of the National Cathedral were made from the contingency vault under the other government obligations vault as has been the practice before my tenure.
“I have several copies of payments from the contingency vault dating back to 2015 to share.
“Honourable co-chairs as Finance Minister I am fully aware of the approval procedures for use of the contingency funds and I have not breached its requirements,” he added.
The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has lauded President Akufo-Addo for his unprecedented achievements in the Western Region.
Enumerating some development projects, Mr Okyere Darko-Mensahdisclosed that the president has constructed four ports in the region.
Taking his turn at the meet-the-press at the Ministry of Information on Wednesday, November 16, he touted that these ports are currently boosting socio-economic activities in the region.
He said, “under President Akufo-Addo, we have been able to construct 4 ports in the Western Region. This is very unprecedented.
“You all know that under Dr Kwame Nkrumah, he did for us the Sekondi Naval Base and you know the British in 1928 did the Takoradi Port. Under President Akufo-Addo we have done another port inside the Takoradi Harbor which is the Atlantic Port Service with a private sector Ibistek.”
Apart from the ports constructed, Mr Okyere Darko-Mensah also revealed that President Akufo-Addo has constructed an automated oil jetty at Takoradi Port and another modern container terminal also at the Takoradi Port.
On roads, the minister said 32.64% of feeder roads had been done, with work on 26 % of urban roads and 44 % of highways also completed.
Projects under construction
The Western Regional Minister also mentioned the construction of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Ezinlibo in Jomoro by the Ministry of Defence.
According to him, the project is 36% complete.
The facility, when completed, will accommodate a minimum of 2,000 personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The construction of a 78km rail line between Manso and Nsuta was also on course and expected to be completed by July 2023, he said.
Expressing his excitement, Mr Okyere Darko-Mensah noted the Western Regional Coordinating Council will continue to support and promote investment in these areas for the benefit of the people.
Kwadwo Sheldon is undoubtedly one of Ghana’s finest content creators on social media currently.
He has been giving people a lot of great content on his various social media pages ever since his break-through in the last two years and it is pretty obvious Ghanaians and the world love what he has been doing.
Well, his works plus a few others as content creators have been seen by BBC Africa News, who decided to put the spotlight on them in a new documentary titled Social Media Money In Ghana.
According to the BBC, the documentary is centered on the struggles of being a content creator in Ghana and also how these content creators struggled to make some money for themselves in an economy that is begging on its knees to be saved.
Following this feature and the revelations he made, Kwadwo Sheldon took to social media to heap praises on his grandmother who nurtured him to become the man he is today.
Sheldon disclosed that her granny at a point in time had to sell her clothes just to get money for him to register and write his BECE simply because she was not getting enough money as a peasant farmer.
The young entrepreneur disclosed that she decided to feature her in this documentary as his way of showing his appreciation.
Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Yaw Frimpong Addo, has stated that the ministry’s Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) market is a short-term mechanism to address the hikes in food prices on the market.
The government established the PFJ Market as part of a scheme to induce price increases for staples on the market by conveying foodstuffs from food-producing areas and farm gates to the capital city, Accra, for sale at reduced prices.
Five implementation modules make up the government of Ghana’s main agricultural initiative, Planting for Food and Jobs.
Food crops, Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD), greenhouse technology villages, Raising for Food and Jobs (RFJ), and Agricultural Mechanization Services are the five PFJ modules.
Speaking to the media, Mr Addo asserted that the Agriculture Ministry is planning a long-term strategy that will endlessly cushion farmers and consumers.
“This is a two-pronged approach: we want to save the farmers and urban dwellers.
“It is for a period. You know these crops [yam and plantain]: when they come, between now and January, they are in abundance. So, that is where we want to take the situation, not to demotivate the farmers,” he added.
Last Friday, November 11, 2022, the Ministry began selling food to civil and local government employees on its premises.
A bunch of the plantain was sold minimum of GH₵10 and maximum of GH₵25.
However, some individuals purchased plantains at the Agric Ministry’s premises and said the foodstuffs were expensive as compared to those available in open markets.
On the other hand, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, who was speaking on the floor of parliament on Wednesday, November 9, said some market women in Accra are charging customers exorbitant amounts for commodities purchased.
According to him, the ministry’s inquiry into price formation has not uncovered any explanations for why food is so expensive at the retail level in various cities around the country.
“There are speculations that it could be due to some traders making supernormal profits. It is something that has to be investigated but in terms of price formation analysis, there is nothing to justify the doubling or tripling of the retail price of food in the major cities.
“Food accessibility in Ghana is also more than satisfactory. In recent times, price hikes of food commodities in the urban centres, particularly Accra, is creating an erroneous impression that food has become inaccessible,” he added.
Meanwhile, the government’s Spokesperson on Governance and Security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has lauded the Agric Ministry for such an initiative.
According to him, this will revive Ghana’s agricultural sector, adding that he believes the initiative will help yield phenomenal results in the coming years.
“The Planting for Food and Jobs programme has been a very successful programme, I will tout it as the best policy for the president’s government.
“Food is bulky. It has so many components and let’s say high transportation cost. So if anything happens on the world market to oil prices, you have a hit on food prices. Same applies to chemical inputs. These are not just for food, but it is for everything. [The current challenges] are not just in Ghana. It is a global phenomenon. That doesn’t mean that our programme is not successful,” he added.
Grace Migliaccio decided at the last minute not to get on the plane.
It was summer 1984. Grace, a recent college graduate in her early 20s, had put all her savings towards a long distance flight from her home in Washington DC to visit her Australian boyfriend, John Hiron.
The couple met at a party earlier that year, a few days before John was supposed to be leaving town. The early days of their relationship were a whirlwind — after falling for Grace, John extended his trip for as long as possible.
They were, as Grace puts it, “super head-over-heels madly in love.” But eventually John’s visa ran out, and he had to go home. After that, Grace and John’s relationship was confined to letters. Their snail mail took weeks to travel overseas, and the physical distance between them created an emotional distance that was hard to bridge.
As her departure date approached, Grace started to worry.
“I had a dream that I was making a huge mistake,” Grace tells CNN Travel today. “I just had a really bad gut feeling I shouldn’t go.”
It didn’t help that Grace, “was not an adventure taker,” as she puts it. Looking for reassurance, Grace spontaneously called John. The couple rarely spoke on the phone due to the hefty long-distance charges, but she was feeling increasingly desperate.
“I needed him to say, ‘You’re doing the right thing,’” she recalls. “But he wasn’t home.”
Grace and John, pictured here in 1984, struggled to navigate a long-distance relationship.
Instead, John’s mother answered and said she’d pass on the message. It was over 36 hours before John phoned Grace back. In the interim, Grace’s anxiety only increased.
“Should I come?” Grace asked, when John eventually returned the call.
“If you want to,” was John’s response.
For Grace, this apparent nonchalance sealed the deal.
“I didn’t get on the plane,” she says. “And so he went to the airport to get me, to pick me up, and I didn’t get off — I wasn’t on the plane.”
“I said the wrong thing, without a doubt,” says John, who blames his immaturity. He wanted her to come, he says now, he just didn’t know how to express it and the long distance was tough.
When Grace didn’t turn up, John and his friends went straight from the airport to the pub. Over beers, his friends told John he’d meet someone else and move on. But John knew he’d lost something not easily replaced.
A few days later, he called Grace to ask her what went wrong. Over the grainy connection, Grace and John both struggled to articulate how they felt. Achieving a sense of closure felt impossible.
“I know we’re going to date other people, but we shouldn’t marry anyone else,” said Grace eventually, sensing the call — and their relationship — was coming to an end.
“Why?” asked John, thousands of miles away in his parent’s house in Perth.
“Because we’re never going to love someone the way we love each other,” said Grace.
Different directions
Grace and John, pictured here in 1984, went their seperate ways after she decided not to get on the plane to be with him.
For months afterward, Grace says she felt “devastated.” But she tried not to imagine what life would be like if she’d boarded her flight. Instead, she “set about trying to move forward.”
“I bought a car with the money that I was going to go to Australia with, so that I couldn’t be tempted to change my mind later,” she says.
Months turned into years and John and Grace remained on the periphery of each other’s lives.
“I would call periodically,” says John. “One year I called, and she got married. And then I called again and her parents had died.”
Sometimes, John would phone and wouldn’t get through — Grace would have moved, and he’d struggle to track her down. There was no social media or email to aid this quest, and one time John phoned an international directory in the US to find Grace.
For Grace, these intermittent calls were bittersweet.
“I would swear, ‘l am not going to talk to him anymore. What is the point?’ along the way. Because it would stir up emotions,” she says.
“But every time he would call, I would take the call, of course. But I would swear this is the last time we’re going to talk.”
Grace kept all of John’s letters.
The decades rolled on. Grace and John dated and then married other people, and later had children.
“Twenty-two years later, I’d long moved on from this relationship,” says Grace.
Even so, she’d kept all of John’s letters.
“I always had them wherever I went, whoever I was with, however many times I moved, the things that he gave me came along with me.”
Then, one day in January 2007, John called Grace out of the blue. The two hadn’t been in touch for some time. In the interim, they’d both been going through trying times — by coincidence, Grace had recently separated from her husband and John and his wife had also recently split.
“I said, ‘We’ve broken up and I’m not married anymore.’ And Grace said the same thing,” recalls John.
“That was really surprising that we were both separated,” says Grace.
The two talked for a short while, sharing how they were both feeling about their marriage breakdowns.
John mentioned a device called a webcam was becoming more commonplace — maybe they could video call sometime?
“I went to the local Staples, and I bought an external webcam, and I plugged it in and had to figure out how to use it,” says Grace. “And we saw each other for the first time in 22 years.”
The image was slightly pixelated, Grace took a moment to adjust to John’s gray hair — but despite the years, they both recognized one another right away.
“It’s funny how your mind tricks your eye, and you see the person from age 22, you don’t see the person who’s 45, in your mind, you see the young person,” says Grace. “And so from the minute we actually saw each other, it was super emotional — this almost visceral reaction.”
It was also a bit awkward.
“We didn’t really have a lot to talk about at first because what is there to talk about?” says Grace. “Just — ‘how are you doing with the divorce? How are the kids? How are you handling it?’ And helping each other through that, and kind of catching up on our lives and where we were and what was going on.”
Still, they arranged to speak again and over the next few months, they connected frequently by video call. Grace and John felt drawn to one another and their calls became a bright spot in both their lives.
“I’d get home from work, and we’d sit down and I’d be watching TV and the webcam was on and we’d talk for the night,” says John.
After a while, John suggested he could come to the US and they could reunite in person.
Grace was hesitant — was this a terrible idea? She raised the question with her marriage counselor, who suggested seeing John could bring about some much needed closure.
“She said, ‘This will be good for you to see each other, and you’ll never see each other again. So it’s kind of a very safe thing to do. You’re not going to get into something complicated, because how could you? You’re so far away.’ That was her advice. And that backfired…”
Reunited in the US
Here’s Grace and John in 2008, when they were reunited in the US.Grace picked John up from Newark Airport in March 2008. Waiting in a taxi with a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, she found herself thinking about the day, all those years ago, that she didn’t get on the airplane.
When she saw John again, Grace says “it was like getting back a missing piece of myself that I hadn’t realized was lost for so long.”
“It was amazing. Very emotional,” says John of their reunion. “It was just about like no time had passed, it was all very familiar and comfortable.”
Before John’s arrival, Grace was worried there would be awkward silences. She’d prepared conversation topics, but these prompts turned out to be unnecessary. After just a few days together, the decades did seem to melt away. Grace and John started to discuss maybe meeting again in a year’s time.
But as they spent more time together, the two realized they were more than just old friends. The connection they’d felt in 1984 was still there, and waiting a year to reunite felt impossible.
“We were like, ‘Well, what are we going to do? Because now we can’t ever be apart again. We made a mistake — maybe we were young, maybe it was the right mistake and things worked out the way they were supposed to. But we can’t just go back to now being apart again,’” says Grace.
One evening, they reread the letters Grace had kept for all those years.
“It literally made us cry, to see the depth of emotion then, and that we could have let it slip away,” says Grace.
Then they found themselves recalling the phone conversation they’d had in 1984, right after Grace didn’t get on the plane.
“I said, ‘Wow, 22 years ago, I said we shouldn’t marry someone else.’ And he finished the sentence ‘….because we’ll never love somebody the way we love each other,’” says Grace,
“He remembered that — and that was like a stab in the heart of, ‘Okay, now, what are we going to do?’ This is going to be difficult and complicated.”
Grace and John lived on opposite sides of the globe. They were both going through divorces. They both had children they loved, and they wanted to be part of their lives. Following their hearts was complicated.
Still, several months later, Grace visited John in Australia, and less than a year after that, John moved to the US and the couple eloped.
“I was very emotional because we waited a lifetime, really, to say those words,” says Grace of their wedding day.
The couple eloped, and 10 years later celebrated their wedding anniversary in Hawaii, pictured.
Falling in love again, 23 years later, was as bittersweet and complicated, as much as it was “euphoric.”
Some loved ones were hurt by their reunion. Some friends thought they were both going through midlife crises. For John, moving across the world from his children was particularly tough.
“It was extremely hard, extremely emotional,” he says.
“It was a couple of years of really difficult times with that move,” says Grace.
But as the dust settled, John and Grace were able to spend significant time in Australia, as well as in the US.
They became a cross-continental blended family, bringing their children together whenever they could. Some of John’s children have since studied and worked in the US.
“What’s amazing is all the five kids get on pretty well together,” says John. “We can take them on a vacation and everyone gets on well, we have a good time.”
“We like to think that in the end, when you get past the pain, we made all of our kids’ lives so much bigger, and set a great example for love,” says Grace.
Making up for lost time
Grace and John say they are trying to make the most of every day together, and travel a lot — including to the Taj Mahal in India, pictured here.
Today, 15 years since their reunion, John and Grace still live together in the US, where they’re “making up for lost time.”
“It almost feels like we’d never been apart,” says John.
They try to enjoy, as Grace puts it, “a lot of traveling and adventures and experiences to create a lifetime of memories in a shorter, compressed period of time.”
Loved ones who were originally naysayers have come round in the interim. And as for Grace and John, they’ve both come to believe things happened the way they should have.
“It’s worked out the way it was meant to work out,” says John, who says the decision to be together wasn’t easy, but it’s always been worth it.
“If we tried to carry on from 1984, we probably wouldn’t have been mature enough to get through that period to get to where we are now,” says Grace. “So I feel sad, but I know that I have the best of it now. So it can’t really be sad, because it all worked out the way it was supposed to — despite all of our mistakes that we made, including me not getting on the plane.”
Legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, is optimistic that the 2024 general elections will provide a space for intense deliberation of the 1992 Constitution and its proposed review.
He noted that President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to dismiss Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta,despite several calls and a censure motion against the minister, will ensure a conversation on the review of the constitution during the campaign season ahead of the next polls.
“I can see that constitutional review is going to take front and centre of the election. It’s going to be front and centre.”
“A candidate to be able to win massively will have to promise us a quick constitutional review. We’ve seen that this constitution is no longer fit for purpose, we have to redesign it, cut down the powers of the executive President, make sure that parliamentarians will remain parliamentarians –they can’t be that cross-breed, so to speak,” he said.
The impeachment of the Finance Ministerhas added to the many reasons some Ghanaians hold the assertion that the constitution must be reviewed.
Article 82(5) of the 1992 Constitution states that “Where a vote of censure is passed against a Minister under this article, the President may, unless the Minister resigns his office, revoke his appointment as a Minister.”
Although a vote of censure is yet to be passed, the Minority in Parliament has moved the motion against the minister.
For some critics of the Finance Minister, this is enough to register the lack of confidence citizens have in Mr Ofori-Atta.
Despite the intense calls, President Akufo-Addo has made no move to rescind his appeal to Ghanaians that Mr Ofori-Atta be allowed to serve the country until it completes its negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, and he presents the 2023 Budget Statement.
Speaking on the power vested in the president with regards to the appointment and termination of appointments, Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Amoako Baah, noted that Mr Ofori-Atta may remain at post even if a vote of censure is passed against him.
According to him, the use of “may” in Article 82 Clause 5 of the constitution provides the president the opportunity to decide whether the Finance Minister should be fired or not despite Parliament’s decision.
He explained that with the use of “shall” the president would be forced by the laws governing the state to replace the current Finance Minister.
“Now we’re beginning to see. Everywhere you look in the constitution there is a problem so now we’re heading towards almost like a constitutional crisis. They vote for censure and he doesn’t resign and the President does not remove him, what happens?” he said.
Already, Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who also believes a review of the constitution is the best way to go, has clarified that the President has not pledged to sack Mr Ofori-Attaeven after the country’s engagements with the IMF.
“The President did not say that. To quote his words, he said ‘let’s finish with this, the IMF and the budget thereafter, we should hold on until after these’”.
“’I will act’ may not necessarily mean that ‘I will do that’. According to what the President told us, you hold on until…so it could be that ‘I’ll come back to consider it’ or ‘I’ll give in to your demands’,” he explained.
This comes after some 80 Majority MPs met the President following their demand that Mr Ofori-Atta be replaced to restore confidence back into the economy.
Some 110 doctors who were posted to deprived communities have accepted their postings. This was disclosed by the Minister for Health, Kweku Agyemang Manu.
He made the revelation in Parliament, where he noted that this forms part of efforts to deliver quality health to rural folks in the various regions across the country.
The Minister was responding to some urgent questions on measures his outfit is taking to ensure that doctors accept postings to deprived areas of the country.
It is an open secret that doctors and other health personnel do not want to serve deprived communities due to the lack of social amenities and other facilities and good living conditions.
To avert this trend, Mr Kweku Agyemang Manu indicated that the ministry has run a survey, out of which many recommendations have been made to include financial incentives for doctors who accept postings in deprived areas of the country.
He said this financial incentive will be based on the severe nature of the area of one’s posting.
Ofori-Atta hinted that all the administration had attempted to accomplish had been intended to improve people’s lives when he appeared before the ad hoc committee of Parliament considering the censure resolution presented against him.
He also gave the committee his word that he would be honest in his comments in order to help them discover the truth.
“Hon Co-Chairs, during the course of my remarks this morning, you can expect forthrightness. The proponents’ motion of censure has accused me of many things and includes some very disparaging remarks and attacks on my person and integrity,” he said.
“I am certain that Ghanaians will have a more balanced view of the events that led us here as I take the opportunity to speak to the matters raised,” he said.
He was hopeful that the “truth” would help dispel any unfounded doubts about his motives, competence, and character.
He, therefore, apologized to Ghanaians for the current hardships they are experiencing.
“Before I proceed with my detailed responses, I would like to make a personal comment to the Ghanaian people: Since the Akufo-Addo government came into office in 2017, everything we have sought to do was aimed at making the lives of the people better.
“We have been focused on this vision to improve lives and in the first four years, our efforts were leading to a realization of the vision,” he said.
He added, “…Let me use this opportunity to say to the Ghanaian people what I believe, with courage, every Finance Minister around the world may wish to say to his people now: I am truly sorry.”
He continued his opening remarks by outlining the achievements of the government prior to global events that have torpedoed the development agenda.
Parts of the anti-LGBTQI+ bill have been deemed unconstitutional by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame.
The Attorney General expressed his concerns about the legislation in a letter to the head of the Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs. He explained that some clauses would infringe basic freedoms and rights of individuals, including the right to privacy.
According to him, some freedoms enshrined in the 1992 constitution may be breached if the bill is passed in its current form.
In his view, while some parts of the bill align perfectly with the constitution, others do not, hence the need to amend them before it is finally passed into law.
“Parts of the Bill in its present form violate some fundamental rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution, including the right to freedom of expression, thought, and conscience and freedom from discrimination. Other provisions of the Bill, however, pass the test of constitutionality” he said
He added, “thus, unnatural carnal knowledge of a person of at least 16 years with the consent of that person and unnatural carnal knowledge of an animal is already criminalized by Act 29 as a misdemeanour.
The Bill, however, seeks to categorise the offence as a second-degree felony, making it inconsistent with the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (Act 30), which classifies offences in Ghana generally and their correlative punishments.
However, it should be noted that not all forms of unnatural carnal knowledge or sexual activity involving people of the same sex have been made illegal under Ghanaian law. This is so that the requirements of Section 99 of Act 29 on “Evidence of Carnal Knowledge” can be fulfilled: “Complete on Proof of least degree of penetration.
The Attorney General also stated that “sexual intercourse or unnatural carnal knowledge between or among persons of the female sex, for instance, is not criminalised by current Ghana law. To this extent, subparagraph (a) of paragraph 1 of clause 6 can be seen to state a broader prohibition on unnatural carnal knowledge or sexual intercourse between persons of the same sex as known to Ghana law. The provision is not unconstitutional.
The bill is 36 pages long and describes its objective as “to provide for proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values; forbit LGBTQ+ and related activities, ban propaganda of, advocacy for or promotion of LGBTTQQIAAP+ and related activities; provide for the protection of and support for children, persons who are victims or accused of LGBTTQQIAAP+ and related activities and other persons; and related matters.
The anti-LGBTQI+ bill also aims to criminalise the actions of those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, or queer; those who hold opposing socio-cultural notions of sex; those who have a biological anomaly regarding their gender at birth; those who advocate for or financially support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer-related causes; and those who perform surgeries to change a person’s gender.
Additionally, the Bill places a responsibility on individuals and relevant independent constitutional organizations to advance and defend appropriate human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values.
It’s not like we’ve won the World Cup yet. That’s much far away from us.
And it’s also not like we’ve made roundly positive impact at the tournament as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is itself yet to start with the Black Stars taking on Portugal next Thursday.
But against the backdrop of the disillusionment that enveloped our camp after Otto Addo’s two friendly matches — first, the 3:0 loss to Brazil and the unconvincing win 1-0 over Nicaragua, it was necessary the team gave Ghanaians a good taste of what they’re likely to serve us in Qatar as they engaged Switzerland in their final friendly.
Two debut goals from Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo were enough for the Black Stars to turn the taps of hope on for fans who haven’t been so confident. You wouldn’t blame these fans. In recent Black Stars friendlies, the team hadn’t given Ghanaians any assurance that they would be a team to bank on. Playing the respected Switzerland on Thursday, they however gave a glimmer of hope.
Handing a starting role to home based star, Afriyie Barnieh, Coach Otto Addo left many wondering whether he was in to experiment more than give a strong clue of how his team would look like when against Portugal in their first group game. Barnieh didn’t disappoint. He showed a good dose of confidence, surging forward a number of times and generally aiding the team’s performance in the fairly balanced first half.
Mohammed Salisu gave Ghana the lead after 70 minutes with a header that zoomed into the right corner of the net. Antoine Semenyo would make it 2-0 in the 74th minute. That affirmed the positive pre-tournament signals the Black Stars intended to give. The Swiss attempted a fight back but then they simply lacked the firepower to break the resolve of the Black Stars in the searing Abu Dhabi conditions.
That Ghana didn’t concede is a positive takeaway not just for the defence but a personal joy for goalie, Ati Zigi and notably his critics, who refuse to appreciate him and the point that, with the late injuries to Richard Ofori and Joojo Wollacott, he’s the safest pair of hands for the team. With the win over Switzerland, the consensus is that, it’s been a topsy-turvy build up to our Qatar campaign.
And considering our coaching hiccups; that’s having to settle on Otto Addo and his assistants a bit too late and on part-time basis; our uninspiring performances in the previous friendlies, the boisterous player selection talk coupled with the last minute injuries to two of goalkeepers, hope was fading but Thursday’s game offered refreshing veneer over all we’ve experienced. It’s a perfect by wrap Otto Addo and his team.
He further said the new directive by the central bank will lead to the shortage of the items as importers will not be willing to import them at a higher price
“The announcement made by the Bank of Ghana is not the best, we cannot even tell who is advising the government on such a policy. Because the very things that we seek to stop importing are something that we cannot raise enough for the country,” he said.
“Therefore, if we try to put a stop to it then we are going to make other people poorer and food scarcity will set in. With what they have said, come next year it will be very difficult for importers to bring in these products to substitute the shortage that may come in,” Mr Aggrey added.
When Ofori-Atta appeared before the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee debating the Motion of Censure against him on November 18, 2022, he offered this apology.
He acknowledged that Ghana’s citizens are experiencing hardships and that the country’s economy is having problems.
He said he sees and feels the terrible impact of the challenges and would continue to work hard to resolve them to help mitigate the hardships for the citizens.
“Today, I acknowledge our economy is facing difficulties and the people of Ghana are enduring hardships.
“As the person, President Akufo-Addo has put in charge of the economy, I feel the pain personally, professionally, and in my soul. I see and feel the terrible impact of the rising prices of goods and services on the lives and livelihoods of ordinary Ghanaians,” he told the Committee.
He added that he has taken note of the plight of businesses in the country as they struggle to stay in business.
“I feel the stress of running a business. But, it is the strength and perseverance of the Ghanaian people that inspire me and my colleagues in government every morning, to press on,” Ofori-Atta said.
The minister added that “is what gives me the strength to press on to find solutions and relief for Ghanaians to the myriad of problems that our country and the rest of the world are facing, especially, since March 2020.”
There are only about 40 miles between the two furthest away stadiums – Al Bayt Stadium north of Doha to Al Janoub Stadium just south of the capital.
The drive takes just 50 minutes without traffic.
A tournament with a disposable stadium
Seven of the eight World Cup stadiums have been built from scratch for this tournament. Seven of the eight will have seats removed after the tournament… and Stadium 974, which is made of shipping containers, will be entirely disassembled.
Only one of the eight grounds will be the home stadium of a football team afterwards (Al Rayyan at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium).
In total about 200,000 seats will be removed from grounds (and, according to organisers, be gifted to developing countries) after the final.
A guide to the eight World Cup stadiums
A lack of places to stay
As a country that does not get near the top 100 in the world for population or size, it is perhaps no surprise that Qatar cannot offer the accommodation usually seen at a World Cup.
In March, the country had just 30,000 hotel rooms – with official figures suggesting 1.5 million people are coming.
They hope to have a total of 130,000 rooms available in the country in time for fans coming – including 9,000 beds in fans villages, big tents and metal cabins, 60,000 rooms in apartments and villas, 50,000 in hotels and 4,000 rooms in two cruise ships which will remain docked for the tournament.
The lack of rooms means some fans will have to stay in neighbouring countries such as Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and fly in for their games. Oman is offering free visas and 24 special flights a day from Muscat to Doha.
What can fans expect in Qatar?
A lot of new infrastructure
Qatar has had to build a lot of infrastructure to host this tournament. As well as the stadiums, more than 100 hotels have popped up and there have been new roads and a metro built.
A new city is going to be built around the final stadium in Lusail. The budget for just stadiums and training facilities alone is £5.3bn.
Plenty of tickets sold
Despite all the issues with accommodation, 2.89 million tickets were sold at the last update in October – meaning this could be one of the best attended World Cups ever.
How much is a beer?
The price of a beer is about £10 to £15 in Qatar – although there are huge restrictions on where you can buy alcohol.
Usually, licensed hotel bars and restaurants are the only options in Qatar, although during the World Cup, fan zones and the grounds around the stadium will also sell beer.
The fan zones will reportedly charge £11.60 for 500ml of lager.
Drinking alcohol in public places (outside of these areas) can result in a prison sentence of up to six months and a fine of more than £700.
The tournament’s carbon footprint
Some 3.6 million tonnes of CO2 will be omitted during the tournament. It was 2.1 million in Russia.
Criticism over deaths of migrant workersWatch: Ros Atkins on… How Qatar got to host the World Cup
More than 6,500 migrant workers are thought to have died in Qatar from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka alone from when the country was awarded the World Cup in 2010 to 2020, according to a Guardian investigationexternal-link last year.
The Qatar government said the total was misleading, because not all the deaths recorded were of people working on World Cup-related projects.
Amnesty International says there are no exact figures because the Qatari authorities have failed to investigate the deaths of thousands of migrant workers over the past decade.

An eight-member ad-hoc committee from both sides of the house was set up on November 10 by the Speaker of Parliament to probe the motion.
On Tuesday, November 18, 2022, when the first sitting was had the Minority was represented by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, and, Minority Spokesperson on Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, proponents of the motion.
The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) took their turns to appear before the committee on November 17, 2022.
The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has assured the twenty-six-man Black Stars contingent and the entire technical team of the nation’s unalloyed support ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
According to the President, the Black Stars, who will be featuring and representing the nation at the Mundial in far-away Qatar “should know and feel that the entire nation, without the distinction of politics, religion, ethnicity; the entire Ghanaian nation are 100% solidly behind them.”
This was when the President met a delegation made up of and led by the Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Mustapha Ussif, the Ghana Football Association, and all the Supporters Unions of Ghana, today Thursday, 17th November 2022 at the Jubilee House, to sign the national flag; a move towards rallying popular support for the team, and wish them well in this national endeavor.
Delivering a message of optimism on the account of the Two-Zero victory today over Switzerland in a pre-tournament friendly, President Akufo-Addo said, “I know that they are not there to make up the numbers and that they are going to give a very good account of themselves.”
Therefore, he stated, “I want first of all to thank all of you, very much for making the effort to come and see me before the competition starts, so that we can all together with the black stars the very best of luck,”.
“All of us know what football means to us in this country and what a very rich history we have in football. History goes right back to the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, right up till today; and I’m very confident that the players that have been selected, right up to the excellent technical team that we have under the leadership of Otto Addo, that we are going to give a very good account of ourselves.”
Recalling Pele’s prediction of the 1970s, the President said, “a long time ago, the greatest footballer that has ever lived, the Brazilian, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Pele, said that very soon an African country is going to win the African Cup and I know that, when he said that, he had in mind Ghana.”
He, therefore, called on all to “rally round the team, and make sure that we give them our maximum support. They are going to go a long way away to Doha in Qatar, but they should know that the entire nation, without distinction of politics, religion, ethnicity; the entire Ghanaian nation are 100% solidly behind them.”
“I am impressed by the arrangements that the Minister for Youth and Sports, has made and all those who are involved in the administration of the Black Stars. Very well-organized and systematic efforts have been made to make sure that we give the Black Stars the best possible conditions, to go forward,” he stated.
According to Bullgod, he will not succumb to any plot seeking for him to abandon the court case, adding that it is beyond him now.
This was his response during an interview on Joy Prime where he was asked if he will consider an apology from Shatta Wale and drop the lawsuit.
“No, I won’t. It is beyond me and it is beyond him now. I have been there before; I have been in that space before. I went through a lot and I didn’t go through it alone. I went through it with my family. I did almost a month in cells. My wife grew as lean as an HIV patient, she went through a lot because of me. We already have our challenges cos already I dey disturb her a lot and now this. So, if I have the power to stop her suffering, especially with this case, I will,” Bullgod told the host.
It can be recalled that in an earlier discussion on Daybreak Hitz, Bullgod who has since been held a prime suspect in Fennec Okyere’s murder case, established that he resorted to a legal redress this time around in order not to land in prison again.
Touching on reasons for filing a lawsuit at an Accra High Court following fresh accusations by Shatta Wale that he (Bullgod) was involved in the death of Fennec, Bullgod said he is only trying to maintain the sanity of his wife and kids.
“I’m doing this for my kids and my wife. They are not the ones asking me to sue but they were the ones who suffered a lot when I was behind bars. Nobody suffered more than my wife especially. When I got out of cells after one month, she was looking like a broomstick. Slim, drained. She never slept.
“I remember when I got back from prison, my daughter asked where I was and I told her that I travelled. She said daddy you are lying you were in cells. How did she get to know? She goes to school and I was all over the news at that time,” Bullgod earlier disclosed on HitzFM.
Black Stars held a recovery training session in Abu Dhabi without players who participated in their 2-0 friendly win over Switzerland on Thursday.
Coach Otto Addo put theses players through their paces in bid to get them ready for the World Cup.
Ghana concluded their 2022 World Cup preparation with a convincing win over Switzerland at the Zayed Sports complex.
Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Serlom Semenyo scored in the second half to ensure the West Africans head into the World Cup on a high note.
The team has been camping in the United Arab Emirates capital for the past four days as coach Addo look to fine tune his squad for the global showpiece.
Black Stars will leave Abu Dhabi for Doha today for Doha and are expected to arrive this evening to continue with preparations for the World Cup finals
.
Asaase radio, a pro-NPP media outlet, said in a report that Anas’ agents met with the Finance Minister in Dubai. They claimed that during their five-minute conversation, the minister became annoyed when the Tiger Eye team tried to ‘entrap’ him with a financial gift.
According to the report, Tiger Eye P.I. agents pretended to be investors looking to make investments in Ghana and required a meeting with the minister to explore potential and other business-related matters.
It further established that the investigators had earlier met with Charles Adu Boahen, Ofori-Atta’s deputy back in 2018, in a hotel suite in the United Araba Emirates, UAE, where the now dismissed Adu Boahen was given monies in lieu of helping the investors get access to among other Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
After their meeting, they then proceeded to meet with Ken Ofori-Atta briefly at the Dubai airport while he was on transit to Tokyo on an official assignment.
The report said neither the minister nor his PA accepted the money gift from the Tiger Eye P.I. team.
“Mr. Ofori-Atta was informed the meeting was with the Chairman of Al Baraka Islamic Bank of Bahrain, whose interest was to invest $500m to set up an “ethical” bank in Ghana.
“The meeting, per our checks, lasted some five minutes. Ken Ofori-Atta left very irritated when he was offered a “gift”, which he refused to accept, and walked out with his PA who was also offered a gift that was rejected as well,” the Asaase radio report added.
“The last time I checked, Tiger Eye has no video depicting any interaction with Ken Ofori-Atta! None!
“Assuming without admitting that there were attempts to “entrap” Ken Ofori-Atta, and the attempts proved unsuccessful? What would that mean? That Adu Boahen failed the “test of integrity” while Ofori-Atta succeeded? Or?” he quizzed.
Baako, however, explained that documentaries are to tell a story and not exhibits in criminal investigations but rather the “raw footages” of the documentary are what can be used as exhibits in criminal proceedings.
He said, any time a project of Tiger Eye P.I. has become a subject of criminal prosecutions, the Tiger Eye P.I. team submits the “raw footages” as part of their exhibits in court.
“By the way, documentaries are not exhibits in criminal investigations and/or prosecutions. The RAW FOOTAGES are. And the latter have always been submitted to the relevant statutory authorities for the purposes of criminal investigations and prosecutions that were triggered by undercover ops by/of Tiger Eye!
“People are entitled to ask questions of Tiger Eye and its “methodologies”. That’s fair game. No problem. Tiger Eye will continue to unearth any and all “negatives” applying its “methodologies” whether its critics like it or not!
“For now, Tiger Eye has indicated its readiness to assist the investigation announced by the Special Prosecutor; upon the presidential referral of the conduct of Mr. Adu Boahen to the OSP! DUE PROCESS is underway. That’s where Tiger Eye’s FOCUS is!
“Those who want to continue asking questions and criticising “methodologies” and perceived/alleged omissions of Tiger Eye, are entitled to continue! FREE SPEECH!!” Kweku Baako stressed.
A court in Turkey has sentenced a televangelist, who surrounded himself with young women he referred to as his “kittens”, to 8,658 years in prison.
Adnan Oktar, who has been described as a cult leader, was convicted of sexual assault and abuse of minors.
Oktar, 66, fronted his own television channel, through which he delivered religious sermons.
He is a fierce opponent of the theory of evolution, and wrote a widely mocked book on creationism.
He was originally given a jail sentence of 1,075 years but an appeal court ordered a retrial involving 215 defendants.
Ten of them were also given 8,658 years in prison by the court in Istanbul. Many of the other defendants were given shorter terms.
Oktar and hundreds of his followers were arrested in 2018 from his home on a litany of charges, including running a criminal organisation, tax offences, sexual abuse, and counter-terrorism laws.
During his arrest, Oktar told journalists that the allegations made against him were “lies” and “a game by the British deep state”, a topic he had frequently spoken about in the past.
In January 2021 he was convicted of 10 separate charges, including leading a criminal gang, engaging in political and military espionage, sexual abuse of minors, rape, blackmail and causing torment.
He was also charged over alleged links with exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen, who the Turkish government accuses of masterminding a failed military coup in 2016 which killed 251 people and injured more than 2,000.
An upper court overturned that ruling.
The convicted preacher referred to the women who surrounded him as his “kittens”
Oktar’s views have earned him a degree of notoriety both in Turkey and abroad, having been arrested multiple times before 2018 and having spent time both in prison and a psychiatric unit over the years.
Multiple copies of his widely ridiculed book “the Atlas of Creation” were reportedly shipped unrequested to academics and libraries.
In the book he claimed Darwin’s theory of evolution lay at the root of global terrorism.
The fight between the two started after Diana Asamoah verbally attacked Cecilia Marfo and questioned her spiritual calling over the deliverance of Brother Sammy at a crusade in Kumasi and all the drama that ensued on that fateful day.
Beyond that, Diana continued to criticize Cecilia Marfo despite her apology in a handful of interviews for hitting Brother Sammy. Diana declared that she would never apologise to Cecilia Marfo for her criticism of her because she also made fun of other gospel performers.
However, in a new video circulating online, the two artists have seemed to patched things up.
At Diana Asamoah’s 2022 Abba Father all-white event, which took place at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), they were captured hugging and conversing .
The two posed for a few pictures before stepping onto the stage to perform for the audience. The two gave the audience an exciting show.
The ABBA Father concert was hosted at the University of Professional Studies on Sunday, November 13, 2022.
Evangelist Asamoah also delivered a stunning stage performance to match her gorgeous outfits, one in red and another in white.
The 2022 worship and praise edition was dubbed ‘The Glory Of His Presence: Engaging the Power of Praise and Worship for Victory’.
Top gospel musicians like Cecilia Marfo, Tagoe Sisters, DSP Kofi Sarpong, Brother Sammy, Celestine Donkor, and Ernest Opoku graced the event.
Ghana coach, Otto Addo, has admitted that they are in a tough group but his side is capable of beating any opposition ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
The Black Stars, who are making their fourth appearance at the Mundial are hoping to make history after exiting the group phase in 2014 in Brazil.
Ghana’s best performance came in 2010 where they played in the quarterfinals.
After missing out in the last edition in 2018 in Russia, Addo, who masterminded Ghana’s return to the Mundial says his team can cause an upset should they progress from Group H, where they are pitted against Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.
“Everything is possible. As I’ve said, we have three strong opponents in our group. If we don’t perform as we need to, or if we’re not able to implement our tactics then it’ll be very difficult,” he told FIFA in an interview.
“Especially because Portugal, Uruguay, and the Korea Republic are very strong opponents with qualities on and off the pitch.
“It will be difficult to compete with them but, as I’ve said, we have the quality to beat them. If we progress from the group, anything is possible,” Addo, who also serves as Borussia Dortmund’s talent coach added.
The Black Stars wrapped up their preparation with a 2-0 win over Switzerland on Thursday in Abu Dhabi with Mohammed Salisu and Antione Semenyo scoring the goals.
Ghana will open their campaign against Portugal on November 24 at Stadium 974 in Doha.
Four days later, the Black Stars return to action with a clash with South Korea at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan.
Ghana will wrap up their group stage adventure with their much-anticipated encounter with Uruguay at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah.
The 22nd edition of the Mundial has been scheduled to kick off on Sunday, November 20 to December 18.
The program attempts to raise motorcyclists’ awareness of road safety before, during, and after the holiday season.
As part of the program, Betika spoke with riders in places including Adjiringanor, Madina, Circle, and Abbosey Okai to instruct them on complying to traffic safety regulations such respecting the rights of other road users and the traffic signal.
In order to save lives, they also distributed roughly a thousand reflector jackets.
Marketing Coordinator for Betika Ghana, Ernest Ayesu Ghartey used the opportunity to express Betika’s commitment to invest in the youth in all ways possible and also urged riders to always be in their protective gear.
He added, “I hope this campaign will remind riders of the need to ride properly to prevent avoidable accidents and fatalities. Betika is dedicated to helping the government and its agencies reduce traffic accidents through initiatives like this”.
In an interview with Adom News’ senior producer, Frank Worlanyo Nyonator, Dr. Prince Kofi Kludjeson estimated that if Africa wants to play a key role in the global technology space, deliberate steps must be taken to transform the continent’s old economies which are run by governments to one that is technology driven and can create the needed opportunities youth here in Africa.
He identified the tech space as one of the major sectors for resolving the unemployment situation in Africa. Currently, the African continent can boast of some one billion inhabitants with the youths being in the majority.
As a foremost technology entrepreneur, Dr. Prince Kofi Kludjeson identified connectivity to be one of the major challenges hindering the continents’ ability to effectively compete within the global technology space and to this effect has embarked on an aggressive programme to give equip every student in Africa with technology devices and data starting with Ghana particularly those at the universities.
He identified one of the problems students are having is their inability to have access to technology devices like modern laptops and smarts phones.
Unlike in other jurisdictions around the world, Dr. Kludjeson raised concerns about the legal regimes that govern the technology space in Africa saying they are not forward-looking and make establishing new companies in the tech space extremely difficult and this makes such specialized sectors unattractive to investors, and would be home grown Africans who may have interests in the sector.
To this effect, Dr. Kludjeson is advocating for a new rethinking of the tech space, which he says must center on investing in technology infrastructure and easy access to data and devices. He noted that 99 percent of Africa’s problems could be traced to internet connectivity.
He believes with the coming on board the African continental free trade area which is the world’s largest trading area since the establishment of the World Trade Organization with 54 of the 55 countries of the African Union steps must be taken to immediately cash in on this trade zone.
Among some of the suggestions from Dr. Kofi Kludjeson is his warning to political leadership not to run the AfCFTA like the old sub-continental groups like ECOWAS and the rest but AfCFTA must be treated as a special purpose vehicle backed by technology.
Africa, he says has depended for far long on other technologies and other platforms developed by other societies, but Dr. Kludjeson believes that can be changed with the right purposeful step by growing Africa-friendly technologies that are home and continent specific to solve our problems.
The technology entrepreneur also says the continent must begin to migrate its technology space from cellular platforms to IOT’s (Internet-of-Things). He was particularly happy that some companies are emerging into the fintech space on the continent but he thinks going digital is the solution since some of these new fintech entities are still operating on the cellular or analogue platforms.
To the question of a growing technology market on the African continent and how to secure a proper percentage for youths, he advised that deliberate legal instruments should be put in place to make sure, African own substantial equity in every investment that comes to invest in the tech space on the continent.
In his view, that is the only way to protect the tech market for Africans and to raise the next generation of billionaires on the continent.
Dr. Prince Kofi Kludjeson also advised that all these proposals must be youth-centered and oriented because in his estimation there are no silver bullets to the challenges confronting Africans, but we must stay away from using unnecessary terminologies and focus more on the basics which he situates on connectivity because that remains the best conversation all African must be having in the next decade.
Social media giant, Twitter is facing a new crisis at its headquarters which may result in the closing down of the company.
Earlier this week, the firm’s new owner, Elon Musk said employees had to commit to working long hours and would “need to be extremely hardcore” or leave the company.
In an email to staff, Musk said workers should agree to the pledge if they wanted to stay.
The email also stated that employees who refuse to sign the form by 5 pm Eastern on Thursday, November 17th, would be let go and would receive three months of severance pay.
The message sent to Twitter staff
“If you are sure that you want to be part of the new Twitter, please click yes on the link below,” Musk said.
However, after long hours for workers to check “yes” on a Google form accepting Elon Musk’s proposal of working “long hours at high intensity”, it seems a large number of employees have rejected his vision.
In light of this, the firm is on the verge of collapse and losing even more employees following the mass layoffs of engineers and managers who keep the firm running.
Users of the platform have taken to its blogging site to express their concerns and worries.
Other comments making waves on Twitter are of the belief that the micro-blogging site will survive amidst the mass cut.
Former Ghana international Prince Tagoe is confident the Black Stars can win the FIFA World Cup without big name players.
Black Stars. who are the lowest-ranked team at the tournament have been drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
Ghana will take on Portugal in their first game on November 24 before playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2 respectively.
“All that we need is, there should be peace, there should be joy.”
“We don’t really need big players or players that are well known to win the World Cup.
“It’s sometimes about the love and the spirit and the kind of mindset the players have that will carry us through,” Prince Tagoe told Radio Gold Sports.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup takes place between November 20 and December 18, 2022.
Only three sides from the continent have ever progressed to the quarter-finals; Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.
There is foresight and intelligence in this $2 billion Sinohydro contract, according to Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the governing New Patriotic Party.
The establishment of the “Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation to build this one billion metric tonnes business, which can fetch the country hundreds of billions of dollars along the value chain,” according to Otchere-Darko, demonstrates the President’s vision.
“He [the President] had the foresight to tie this vision to the goal of developing Ghana’s infrastructure.
According to him, “The President came with a vision to add value to our economy”, saying: “We need roads” but “we are limited in how much we can borrow”.
Mr Otchere-Darko said the President’s vision is evidenced in his setting up of the “Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation to develop this one billion metric tonnes industry, which can fetch the nation hundreds of billions of dollars along the value chain”.
“He [President] had the wisdom to link this vision with the mission to build Ghana’s infrastructure.
“GIADEC is working to get the first alumina refinery built within two years. The Sinohydro deal has a 3-year grace period, after which we start paying”, the President’s cousin said on Facebook.
“The President has linked payments to Sino to, at least, refined bauxite (alumina), if not aluminium. I call it leadership. Keep faith with Akufo-Addo; stay with NPP”, Mr Otchere-Darko urged.
Parliament, in December 2018 approved the $2 billion bauxite-for-infrastructure barter arrangement between the government of Ghana and China’s Sinohydro Corporation.
This arrangement seeks to leverage a fraction of Ghana’s bauxite resources to address the country’s infrastructure challenges and will provide a wide variety of projects including hospitals, bridges, interchanges, roads, affordable housing, rural electrification, and many other projects in line with the government’s development agenda.
