  • Reduce sitting days for us over fuel price hikes – MP appeals

In the wake of the surge in fuel prices, Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman Constituency, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has made a clarion call to the Speaker of Parliament to reduce the number of sitting hours of MPs.

Speaking on the floor of parliament on Friday, November 4, 2022, Mr Ampem Nyarko proposed that parliamentary sitting days be reduced to two days a week instead of the usual four.

Currently, fuel prices have hit an all-time high, with petrol selling at about GH¢18 per litre and diesel retailing at over GH¢23.

Lamenting the cost of fuel, he disclosed that he last spent about GH¢3, 000 to fill his tank at a fuel station.

According to him, the proposal, if implemented, will minimise the expenditure of MPs amid the current economic crisis.

Pleading with the speaker to take his proposal into consideration, he said “ Mr Speaker looking at the kind of business that we have, is it not possible we can stay for six hours a day instead of driving here 2 hours, and then we go back, we can save like 500 cedis on fuel,” he explained.

“Sometimes we can come and in less than two hours we adjourn till the next day, I am asking whether it will not be possible for the Business Committee to consolidate, and pack their activities so that instead of four days, we come like two days in a week in order to save on the amount of money we are using for fuel,” he stated.

However, the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, kicked against the proposal.

Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, commenting on the issue, described Mr Ampem Nyarko’s proposal as an “apocalyptic declaration”.

“What will be the effect on national productivity, this call that you are making, what will be the effect on GDP?” he quizzed.

“I think that really it is an unfortunate call that we should be working for just two days,” he said.

  • Ajax loses to PSV Eindhoven with Ghanaian player Mohammed Kudus playing

Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus played for Ajax in their 2-1 Eredivisie loss to PSV Eindhoven on Sunday.

Kudus, who lasted for 81 minutes before being replaced by Davy Klaassen put up an impressive display but it was enough to help his side secure the maximum points at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

The 22-year-old was handed a start after coming off the bench in last league fixture and played in the midfield with Steven Bergwijn, Dusan Tadic and Brian Brobbey playing ahead of him.

Luuk de Jong gave PSG the lead in the 23rd minute. After the recess, PSV doubled their lead in the 50th minute through Erick Gutierrez who powered home a rebound after Pasveer had saved an effort from Joey Veerman.

Lorenzo Lucca halved the deficit for Ajax in the 83rd minute with a fantastic finish.

Ajax pushed for the equaliser but PSV held on to seal a vital victory.

Kudus has made 12 league appearances and scored five goals for Ajax this season.

  • Elon Musk says Twitter will permanently suspend ‘parody’ accounts, company asks laid off workers to return

Twitter seems to be in disarray ever since Elon Musk took over as CEO late last month.

Musk seems to backtracking after declaring late last month that “comedy is now legal on Twitter.”

It took less than two weeks, and Musk doesn’t appear to be laughing anymore, as he has now threatened to “permanently suspend” anyone who impersonates another person without identifying themselves as a “parody” account.

His war on impersonators comes after people have been impersonating him on the platform. Musk recently said Twitter users must pay $7.99 per month for a verification check mark, without detailing how the platform would determine the difference between the actual person and the bad actor. Musk said that if someone with a paid verified account is caught impersonating someone else, their profile will be suspended and their money will be pocketed.

Comedian Kathy Griffin had her account suspended after she participated in a trend where people changed their handle to “Elon Musk.”

Food Network chef Valerie Bertinelli also participated in the Twitter handle trend, but eventually reverted back to her actual name.

Meanwhile, after Musk laid off 3,700 employees, slashing the company’s workforce by about half, there seems to be an about-face.

The layoffs were met with a class-action lawsuit which argued that such a move violated the WARN, or federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. The law requires that big companies provide at least a 60-day window before moving forward with sweeping job cuts.

Bloomberg reports some of those workers who were fired are now being asked to return because their dismissal occurred by mistake.

  • Streamline policies on digital economy – Experts advise

The only way recent achievements from the digital revolution will be sustained is for central governments, regulators, and other relevant stakeholders to streamline policies that encourage partnerships in the digital economy.

At the second edition of the Standard Chartered Digital Banking, Innovation and Fintech Festival, a panel of professionals in digital finance gave a rousing speech on the subject of “Powering Africa’s Digital Economy: Platforms, Partnerships & Policy.”

They said while the rapidly advancing digital economy provides African nations with a unique opportunity to exponentially transform various aspects of their respective economies, fragmented policies, uneven partnerships and under-used platforms could derail any progress that will be made.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), John Bosco Sebabi, maintained that the platform remains arguably the most important financial development on the continent.

But for PAPSS – which was introduced to enhance payments across the continent and reduce costs to businesses, including more than US$5billion lost to third-party transactions – there must be a significant buy-in by central banks, as they are the most important institutions in respective financial jurisdictions.

“Central banks are the cornerstone of financial markets and they can support by joining the platform themselves, as ultimately they offer settlement facility for that jurisdiction and authorise the institutions under them,” Mr. Sebabi said.

He suggested that PAPSS is not necessarily an end in itself but a tool to promote intra-African trade, and by extension development of member states economies; adding that the platform’s success will be measured by growth in trade across the continent, which is currently estimated to be between 13 and 18 percent.

This pales in comparison to the approximately 60 percent, 40 percent and 30 percent intra-regional trade that has been achieved by Europe, North America and Southeast Asia respectively

While acknowledging that central banks cannot outpace innovation, he reiterated calls for them to be abreast with emerging and expected technological developments.

“We know it is not possible for regulators to be ahead of technology on the market, but we can achieve one thing: that is central banks which move with the market,” the PAPSS Deputy CEO noted.

General Manager, Technology & Operations, Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS), Kwadwo Ntim, said central governments and regulators must continue to swiftly provide policy guidance if the digital economy is to progress.

He said government, due to its reach, must also encourage the use of existing payment and settlement systems to execute its transactions.

“We need government to use payment systems and services for its transactions; that way, the private initiatives leading in development of the space will see improved returns – and when this happens it will encourage them to continue investing,” he stated.

He added that there should be dedicated support for Fintech service providers and infrastructure operators, with additional efforts aimed at reducing the cost of using such platforms for the end consumer.

Chief Digital & Fintech Officer with the MTN Group, Serigne Dioum, was optimistic that with the right strategies and channels to execute them, an entirely digital economy is possible.

“We want to fight against cash, not banks and Fintechs; and we all have a part to play,” he said, adding that the cash-lite agenda will be achieved if more merchants are roped into the ecosystem and are willing to accept digital payments.

“We want to build a stronger ecosystem so that transactions are made without first having to make withdrawal, and this will require more merchants accepting payments,” he pointed out.

This comes as the local arm of MTN recorded 57 percent and 53.4 percent growth in the volume and value of mobile money respectively in the third quarter, “driven by higher levels of P2P activity over prior quarters and strong cash-out transactional activity”.

A member of SC Ventures & Global Head, Solv Jiten Arora, added that financial institutions must become more innovative in the offerings they provide to Micro, Small and Medium sized Enterprises (MSMEs), as the latter are evolving in their needs, demands and expectations.

“Platform businesses are the way to get embedded financing and embedded capabilities into the hands of small businesses; but these have to be embedded in digital transactions and they must be completely digital, as this is the only way they can operate at scale. They must have access to information, alternate scoring models and a sustained path toward digitalisation,” he explained.

Taking her turn, Director of Partnerships, Proxtera Singapore and Member, SC Ventures, Aparna Jhajharia, said she was confident that the digital transition will be sustained as the basic building blocks – improved telephone and Internet access – are in place and continue to be developed; adding that the active participation of policymakers in forward-looking conversations “gives an added layer of hope”.

“Increased education and awareness, especially for MSMEs – most of which are family-run businesses, will ensure that these foundational blocks are built upon,” she added.

  • Hernia cannot be melted by medication – Gynecologist

The notion that a hernia could be melted through medication has been refuted by an obstetrics and gynaecology consultant at the Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. Adu Appiah-Kubi.

According to Dr. Appiah-Kubi people who depend solely on medicines in the bid to cure hernia are causing more harm than good. He stated that, the only way to get rid of hernia is through surgery.

“Most people, most times on radio stations and other platforms, claim to have medication to treat hernias by melting their growth, but the fact is, those medications cannot melt hernias because a patient requires surgery to get the hernia out.

“A prolonged stay by a person suffering from hernia can cause strangulation, and that can create other complications,” he stated.

Speaking to the media at the end of a three-day medical outreach programme in Sunyani, he said the disease is no respecter of age and as such, it is paramount for individuals to go for regular check-ups to avoid future complications.

The three-day medical outreach programme gave individuals the opportunity to get freely screened for health conditions that demanded surgery but had no money to acquire treatment.

Hernia is a medical condition that affects men in particular, it occurs when an internal organ or other body part protrudes through the wall of muscle or tissue that normally contains it.

About five million individuals in sub-Saharan Africa experience hernia.

According to reports, there are over a million hernia cases in Ghana. This is because most victims do not have the wherewithal to go for treatment, and on the other hand, the country lacks qualified surgeons to operate on victims.

Earlier this year, Ghana and six other countries received £7 million funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) based in the United Kingdom under the Global Health Research Unit on Global Surgery (GSU).

The initiative is to train non-surgeons to perform essential hernia operations and provide proper care for patients.

A consulting surgeon, Prof. Chris Oppong, revealed that about five fishermen in Axim, in the Western region, died from groin hernia in 2021.

Prof Oppong attributed their deaths to a lack of money to undergo surgery.

According to him, hernia affects fishermen the most because of the activities they engage in, such as the lifting or dragging of fishing nets, among many others.

“It’s a very heartbreaking story. We received a letter from a Chairman from the Fishermen Association in Axim and the brief message was that ‘because of Covid, we haven’t been to Dixcove and other hospitals for two years.

“There has been backlog of over 100 fishermen in the Axim area with large hernia; very sadly, five of them have died from complications of hernia,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and AGM Petroleum are offering free hernia surgeries for about 400 patients from June to December this year in the Western Region.

  • Lil Wayne says packers ‘should’ve gotten rid’ of Aaron Rodgers before the season

Lil Wayne has lost all faith in his favorite NFL team, the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers suffered yet another loss on Sunday, after a lackluster offensive display against the Detroit Lions. Wayne posted a tweet shortly after Green Bay’s 15-9 defeat at the hands of the Lions where he declared their 2022-23 campaign is a wrap, and stated the team should have cut ties with Aaron Rodgers prior to this season.

Rodgers signed a four-year, $200 million deal with the Packers earlier this year, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history. According to Spotrac, if the Packers were to get rid of the four-time league MVP next season, the team would take on $99 million in dead money towards their payroll, which basically means Green Bay cannot afford to let him go.

After starting the season with a 3-1 record, the Packers have dropped five straight games. They are now five games behind the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North division. Green Bay’s decline could be traced back to their decision to trade wide receiver Devante Adams this past offseason, despite the overwhelming statistical evidence that the star quarterback’s success was linked to his No. 1 target.

The Packers host the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday at Lambeau Field.

  • Felix Afena-Gyan to start for Cremonese against AC Milan on Tuesday

Defending Serie A winners, AC Milan, will be the opponent for Ghanaian forward Felix Afena Ohene-second Gyan’s league start since joining US Cremonese on Tuesday.

Afena Gyan, who was just included in Ghana’s 55-man preliminary World Cup squad, will begin against the Italian powerhouses to finish off an outstanding week.

The Ghanaian has played six Serie A games for Cremonese but has only started one of them; their 1-1 draw at Atalanta.

Sources close to the club state that Cremonese boss, Massimiliano Alvini, who had been gradually easing Gyan into his team, is finally convinced that the player has settled at the club and understands their philosophy.

Cremonese are currently 18th in Serie A, three points behind Spezia in 17th.

Afena Gyan is expected to named in the final Ghana squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup which kicks off later this month.

Black Stars have been drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Ghana will take on Portugal in their first game on November 24 before playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2 respectively.

  • Regulatory framework underway to protect annuity products – NIC

Kofi Andoh, the National Insurance Commission’s (NIC) deputy commissioner for insurance, has stated that the organization is putting up a regulatory framework to help protect both annuitants and annuity products.

Insurance contracts known as annuities offer a fixed income stream for a person’s lifetime or a predetermined amount of time.
An annuity can be bought with a lump sum or a series of payments, and it can start paying out right away or at a later date.
Retirement funds are frequently raised through annuities.

According to Mr. Andoh, the market is quite new, therefore, NIC together with its stakeholders are looking at ways to ensure that specific life insurance companies selling the products meet relevant requirements and competencies to shield customers.

“As regulators, we are also working on a regulatory framework that will help us properly regulate this product to make sure that the annuitants are protected. It will help us to effectively do this by knowing what type of competencies an insurance company needs to have to sell annuity. This is a new market and we just need to make sure we put the appropriate measures in place to ensure that everybody is protected,” he said during the annuities campaign launch in Accra.

As part of efforts to ensure the market remains strong and buoyant to serve the needs of customers, the NIC has also built the capacity of some life insurance companies – of which five have been given the opportunity to sell annuity products that have met requirements.

As part of ensuring that the general public are sensitised on the benefits of annuity, the NIC has partnered with key stakeholders, with support from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GlZ), on behalf of the German government to roll-out a series of nationwide public awareness activities for the ‘Annuities Campaign’ – to create significant awareness about its importance as a great tool for financial independence during retirement.

The campaign’s objectives will be achieved through the use of television, radio, social media and public engagement outreaches which are scheduled to run till end of the year, and are expected to reach some one million Ghanaians.

Mr. Andoh, highlighting the importance of annuities said: “The benefits associated with annuities cannot be overemphasised: financial security, liquidity, guaranteed lifetime income supply, maintenance of lifestyle and ability to cope with unforeseen and unplanned expenses, to name a few”.

Speaking at the media launch, Head of the Programme for Sustainable Economic Development at GIZ-Ghana, Detlev Axel Jahn, said GIZ is excited about the campaign and predicts it will bring a tremendous amount of value to the entire Ghanaian insurance industry. He said GIZ will continue to pledge its support and partnership to the insurance industry for projects and collective measures benefitting stakeholders.

  • Ghana, Nigeria contest world’s worst currencies – Report

The naira of Nigeria and the cedi of Ghana are currently the two worst-performing currencies in the world, with the naira losing 37% and 55%, respectively, of its value against the dollar.

Bloomberg reports that while the naira was performing admirably versus the dollar on the official market, it had declined by 37% on the black market, placing it second only to the Ghana cedi in terms of performance.

Despite the fact that Nigeria’s official exchange rate is strictly controlled, the value of the country’s money on the black market is largely determined by the level of demand for the dollar, which has been very high as a result of the country’s strict regulatory policies against the circulation of the dollar in the country.

The naira’s depreciation has continued in the wake of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to redesign the currency and the long-standing ban on Bureau De Change operations.

Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the central bank, declared in October that new naira notes would be released by December 15.

However, experts have predicted that the currency’s depreciation is likely to continue in the short term given the CBN’s announcement of plans to restructure the country’s currency, the prolonged ban against BDC operators, the low oil revenue, and the increased outflows due to uncertainty surrounding the upcoming presidential election.

In order to halt the country’s currency’s rapid depreciation, the CBN in 2021 outlawed the sale of foreign exchange to BDC operators. The central bank accused the BDCs of making illegal foreign exchange sales above the market they were authorised to serve.

Before the ban, BDC operators were an important part of the black market, assisting people who couldn’t lawfully get foreign currencies directly from the CBN to maintain their exchange rates.

Peoples Gazette reported that the naira traded at N890 against the dollar on Saturday, an unprecedented rise from the N700 mark which it traded between September and early October.

With the rate at which the value of the currency is falling, experts have also predicted that before the end of the year, the naira will exchange at N1000 to the dollar.

In October, the Ghanaian cedi was rated as the worst-performing currency in the world after it lost 45.1 percent of its value to the U.S. dollar this year.

  • No basis for ‘Kume Preko’ demonstration, hardship purely incidental – Richard Ahiagbah to protestors

Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah has undermined the purpose of the ‘Kume Preko’ demonstration that came off on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

Some agitated Ghanaians, including members of civil society organisations and other activists, took to the streets of Accra to register their displeasure about the current economic hardship.

According to them, the alarming inflation, coupled with cedi depreciation and the continuous increase in fuel prices, have negatively affected their living conditions.

However, Mr Ahiagbah noted that the current economic crisis the country is facing should not be blamed on Akufo-Addo’s government.

He said the economic difficulties are global phenomena and not internally generated, as some individuals have claimed.

“So the only basis, in my view, that perhaps the demonstrators have this morning to be on the street is democratic. But in terms of the substantive issue, to say that the government or the president has done anything incidental to cause them to be on the street, I don’t see it,” he told the media.

Speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, November 5, 2022, Mr Ahiagba explained that he has assessed the President’s journey and “you can find one single basis for the behaviour suddenly, in these times.”

“Ghana is going through hardship. That hardship can be explained, can be rationalized. The president spoke about it and the data shows exactly that there are incidental issues that are beyond our control that is forcing the situation on us,” he told the media.

As it is now, the country is seeking a possible $3 billion bailout from the IMF amid intensifying hardship, hiked fuel prices, a depreciating cedi, and a rising cost of living.

  • Hearts of Oak coach Slavko Matic rues missed chances despite defeating Kotoku Royals

Despite a 1-0 victory over Kotoku Royals in match week five of the Ghana Premier League on Saturday, Hearts of Oak‘s new coach Slavko Matic was left to lament his team’s wasted opportunities.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh converted the penalty to score the Phobians’ only goal of the game as they secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

The win lifted Hearts 7th on the league table but speaking in a post-match interview, coach Matic was not happy with his team’s performance.

“We must play more with the ball like we did in the first half. We created more chances in the second half but we sat back a little we should have changed the system and formation but we did what is necessary for the team,” he said.

“We did what is good which is to keep a clean sheet, but for a better performance for the team, I think we should run more with the ball.”

  • I can’t pay my workers and feed my household – Veteran actress Akofa

Ghanaian veteran actress, Akofa Edjeani Asiedu, has disclosed that she can’t care for her household nor pay her workers because of the current economic hardships.

Speaking with GhanaWeb’s Doreen Abanema Abayaa on Vogue, the 53-year-old actress noted that she runs a restaurant which has been running at a loss since the dollar shot up.

“I run a restaurant, and as of last week, oil was like 660 cedis and now is 1200 and above. Rice is double the price.

“Everything is double the price, so I am actually not breaking even; I am running at a loss. I can’t pay my workers; I can’t feed my household,” she disclosed.

She also added that she has been trying to find a solution to cushion herself and her household during these turbulent times.

“I really don’t know what to do, so I am trying to see what to do in this chaos. There is always a way out.

“I am sitting still, and I am thinking. I am a creative person, and I run a restaurant, and so if the restaurant is not working, I need to use my creative mind to explore other things to see how I can survive,” she added.

Akofa joins the tall list of celebrities complaining about the current economic difficulty since the dollar shot up more than five times this year.

Meanwhile, as of November 7, 2022, the Bank of Ghana is trading the Ghana Cedi against the dollar at a buying price of 13.0012 and a selling price of 13.0142.

As compared to Friday’s trading of a buying price of 13.0017 and a selling price of 13.0147. At a forex bureau in Accra, the dollar is being bought at a rate of 13.30 and sold at a rate of 14.00.

Against the Pound Sterling, the Cedi is trading at a buying price of 14.6862 and a selling price of 14.7034, as compared to Friday’s trading at a buying price of 14.5346 and a selling price of 14.5517.

At a forex bureau in Accra, the pound sterling is being bought at a rate of 14.50 and sold at a rate of 15.50.

  • 1 District 1 Factory nothing but a slogan, we’ll abolish it – Tamale Central MP

One of Akufo – Addo’s ideas One District One Factory (1D1F), will be scrapped if the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins the 2024 general elections, according to Tamale Central Member of Parliament Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

He claims that since its start, the 1D1F effort has failed to achieve its goals.

On November 5, 2022, the former deputy trade and industry minister was interviewed for TV3’s Key Points program and defined the 1D1F policy as the party’s campaign slogan (NPP).

“1D1F is nothing but a slogan…the 1D1F is something that when the NDC takes over we will throw out. The way it is in this form is not helping,” the Tamale Central MP stated.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, has in recent times noted that the government’s One District One Factory (1D1F) will soon industrialize the local economy.

He pointed out that many factories would be established across the country under the 1D1F initiative.

It would be recalled that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the 2022 State of the Nations Address in parliament announced that 106 out of 278 factories were operational under 1D1F.

He said 148 factories were under construction while 24 were at the mobilization stage.

  • Ghana Card remains only ID for SIM registration – NCA debunks Sam George’s claim

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has refuted claims made by Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament Samuel Nartey George regarding the use of a voter’s ID card as a source of identification for SIM card re-registration.

Mr George, on Saturday, November 5, 2022,  posted on his Facebook page that the Minister of Communication and Digitalisation had finally heeded calls to amend the guidelines for the SIM card registration exercise.

According to him, after several deliberations and consultations with stakeholders, the sector minister, Ursula Owusu Ekuful, directed Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to accept voter ID cards as a document for registration.

Mr Sam George touted that “Our struggles have yielded success. We have had a breakthrough. I can reliably inform you that the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation Ghana has finally seen wisdom in our position.”

“They have through the National Communications Authority Ghana directed the MNOs to accept the Voter’s ID Card as a document for the registration of our SIM cards. Finally, Ursula Owusu has given in to the power and will of the people. This is our collective victory,” he announced.”

The Ningo-Prampram legislator who has been vocal about his displeasure with the sole documentation of the Ghana card in registering SIM cards, commended Madam Ekuful for amending the guidelines for the process.

However, the NCA, in a sharp rebuttal, noted that Mr Sam George’s account is untrue.

The authority indicated in a statement that the Ghana Card remains the only identification document for the ongoing SIM card registration exercise.

“There is currently no medium for registration with Voter’s ID in the current SIM registration exercise; Ghana Card remains the only ID,” NCA clarified.

What was rather discussed at the technical meeting, according to NCA, was the possible update of the SIM registration app to allow temporary use of voter ID.

NCA noted that “the development effort will take several weeks, if not months, to complete – and the deep dive technical discussions on the integration effort with the MNOs/BWAs have not even been held.”

“A similar effort with passport integration has taken more than three months and counting and still not complete. If necessary, the general public will be duly informed when both integration efforts are complete as well as the modalities and conditions of use,” the NCA explained.

The SIM re-registration exercise, which commenced in October 2021, was expected to end on July 31, 2022.

However, it was extended to September 30 to allow Ghanaians to link their SIM cards to their Ghana Cards.

The deadline was again extended for the third time [October 31] due to the low number of re-registered SIM cards.

With several complaints about long queues at the premises of network providers,  a self-serving registration app was launched to assist individuals to register in the comfort of their homes at a cost of GH5.

Yet, the numbers of registered SIM cards were not encouraging.

As such, the NCA in September blocked outgoing calls for a sequential batch of numbers for 2 days.

The Ministry in a press conference noted that defaulters of the SIM card registration exercise will be blocked on Sunday, October 31, 2021.

However, after the October 31 deadline, unregistered SIM card holders continue to make and receive calls, as well as enjoy data and SMS services.

  • ‘I was born to create jobs’ – Dr Kwabena Duffuor

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a former finance minister and presidential candidate for the NDC in 2024, has said that his life’s work is to create jobs so that others can earn a living.

After formally declaring his desire to run for NDC 2024 flag-bearer once nominations are fully opened by the party, the businessman was chatting on Kasapa FM.

“Throughout my whole life, I have tried to create jobs for others through the numerous businesses I have built.
God has given me it as a blessing.

“I am fulfilled when I see others working and providing for their families through the jobs I have generated,” the intelligent businessman continued.
That is my purpose in life.

Dr. Duffuor has established several known companies including banks, insurance companies, farms as well as a media conglomerate.

He recently told journalists that Ghana needs a businessman as President after so many years of failed trials of other professionals such as lawyers and communicators.

And as Ghana’s economy continues to go down into deeper crisis, most Ghanaians are calling for an economic genius capable of producing an “economic miracle” not only to avoid debt default, reduce inflation and stabilize the Ghana cedi in the short term, but also to reduce debt-to-GDP ratio and create more jobs in the long term for the countless unemployed labor force.

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor says he is the economic genius Ghanaians are looking for at this crucial time.

“My economic track record is there for people to judge. From the numerous companies I have created and the thousands of jobs associated with them over the years, to the stable macro and microeconomic conditions during the period that I was finance minister under the government of President John Evans Atta Mills. It is the best economic record under this republic”.

  • Sannie Daara: Richard Ofori must be Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper at the 2022 World Cup

Former communications director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Ibrahim Sannie Daara has suggested that Richard Ofori, not Jojo Wollacott, should be the Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper going into the 2022 World Cup.

The Orlando Pirates goalie has lost his position to Wollacott for the past months.

With less than two weeks to the start of the Mundial in Qatar, Sannie Daara speaking in an interview said Wollacott is a good goalkeeper but Ofori’s experience cannot be overlooked, adding that the former Wa All Stars goalkeeper must be the first choice.

“We have a very good team but my only challenge is with the goalkeeping department,” he told Asempa FM.

“Wollacott has been impressive so far but I think Richard Ofori comes with experience that will help the team.

“In 2010, Richard Kingson’s helped the team to go far and the same must happen going to Qatar,” he added.

Both Ofori and Wollacott have been named in the Black Stars provisional squad for the tournament with the final 26-man squad expected to be named on November 14.

Ghana will officially open camp on November 10 in Abu Dhabi. The Black Stars will take on Switzerland on November 17.

The West African country has been housed in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.

  • Shatta Wale and I are both loud, we are alike – Blakk Rasta

Blakk Rasta has established that although he is fond of criticizing dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, he has realized that they both possess some similar traits.

He made these assertions while stating that no bad blood exists between them.

The two have engaged in a series of social media banters in which he has described Shatta as being a bad example to the Ghanaian youth.

Blakk Rasta has also severally tagged the dancehall artiste as a lousy drug addict.

The gravity of Black Rasta and Shatta Wale’s constant fights has compelled many to question whether the presenter holds a personal grudge against the dancehall artiste.

    But touching on his relationship with the dancehall artiste, Blakk Rasta, in an interview with Graphic Showbiz, said;

“I have nothing personal against Shatta Wale. He is a brother but if I need to tell him the truth, I will not mince words. Shatta Wale is loud and I’m also loud so we are alike. He speaks his mind on issues and that is exactly how I am.”

One can recall that earlier in an interview with Good Evening Ghana, Shatta Wale claimed that he is Blakk Rasta’s senior in the music industry.

While stressing that they are not co-equals, he (Shatta) asked the outspoken radio presenter to accord him the maximum respect he deserves.

“You see someone like Black Rasta? I don’t know what his problem is. Whatever I am saying here now is even hurting him. As I am saying here that I’ve got money, its paining him. He goes to platforms to insult me. Telling me I behave stupidly and stuff. Blakk Rasta, I am your senior. I broke out in this industry before you. In music I am his senior. My song Bandana came out when Blakk Rasta was 38 years and looking for a job,” he stated on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana.

  • Aliko Dangote makes $700 million in a week – Report

Aliko Dangote, the wealthiest man in Africa, saw a considerable boost in his net worth at the end of the first week of November when shares of his flagship company, Dangote Cement Plc, surged by double digits, staging a recovery from their slump in October.

Dangote’s net worth climbed by $700 million in the past week, going from $17.6 billion on November 1 to $18.3 billion on November 7, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which measures and compares the fortunes of the 500 richest people in the world.

The significant uptick in his net worth above $18.3 billion can be attributed to the performance of his 86 percent stake in publicly traded Dangote Cement, as the share price of the leading cement company recovered strongly after falling to a one-year low near the end of October.

The $700-million bump in his wealth figures was fueled by an 8.8 percent increase in the company’s share price on the Nigerian Exchange from N220.5 ($0.502) on November 1 to N240 ($0.546) at the time of writing this report, as investors on the local bourse renewed buying interest in the company’s shares, which continue to trade below their fair value.

According to Simply Wall St, a Sydney-based research firm, the company’s shares are trading below analysts’ calculated fair price-to-earnings ratio, a financial ratio that compares a company’s valuation to earnings and tells investors how much a company is worth.

The Australian company also revealed that the cement maker’s earnings are expected to grow by 18.83 percent per year and that analysts are unanimous in their prediction that the company’s stock price will rise by 38.8 percent in the short to medium

Leaving aside these estimates, Dangote Cement is struggling to outperform last year’s financial results, with profits falling by double digits at the end of the first nine months of its current fiscal year due to lower demand and rising energy costs.

The group’s earnings dropped by 23.4 percent to N213.1 billion ($486.5 million) at the end of the first nine months of its 2022 fiscal year, from N278.25 billion ($635.2 million) the previous year, according to figures contained in the group’s recently published financial statement, as rising energy and distribution costs ate into its earnings.

In light of the drop in earnings, the billionaire businessman, who is not only Nigeria’s richest man but also Africa’s richest billionaire, may receive a lower dividend next year than the N293 billion ($704.1 million) he received this year.

  • ‘I am going to get a motorbike’ – KOD on economic hardship

Media personality and fashion designer, Kofi Okyere Darko has indicated that he will park his car and buy himself a motorbike.

He said this on Vogue with GhanaWeb’s Doreen Abanema Abayaa when he was asked how severely he is being impacted by the ongoing financial hardship in the country.

According to KOD, the rich and poor are experiencing the intensity of the economic crisis.

“No matter how rich you are in Ghana, I think you would definitely feel what’s happening in Ghana economically.

“We are in a terrible place. Let me tell you, tomorrow, I am going to Alajo. I am going to get a motorbike,” he said.

“I own a bicycle but I want something that moves a bit faster so I am getting a motorbike,” he added.

Lately, Ghanaians have overlooked their political ties to lash at the government and the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, following the economic crisis.

There have been calls for his resignation while some have also called for the dismissal of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

  • Lotto operators to engage stakeholders

All lotto operators, agents, and writers are invited to an emergency stakeholders meeting on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, in the Teachers Hall in Accra, beginning at 9:00 a.m., hosted by the Ghana Lotto Operators Association (GLOA) and the Concerned Lotto Agents Association of Ghana (CLAAG).

Sensitization and the means of enforcing the NLA’s mandate about the 20% commission to writers are on the primary agenda.

Management stated that “All Lotto Operators, Agents and Writers must arrive without fail and be on time.”

Meanwhile, a statement signed earlier by the Secretary of GLOA, Seth Asante Amoani, noted that GLOA and PLO have entreated its writers to accept the 20% commission noting to its members that refusal to comply with the directive will lead to the forfeiture of licence and banning of the operator.

“In line with the directive from the NLA, the executives and members of the Ghana Lotto Operators Association (GLOA) and Private Lotto Operators (PLO) wish to bring to the attention of its writers that payment on lotto commission is twenty percent (20%) effective 14th October 2022,” part of the statement read.

  • Black Stars have top-notch technical team – Sannie Daara lauds Otto Addo and others

Ibrahim Sannie Daara has lauded the Black Stars technical team of the Black Stars, led by Otto Addo, saying they are top-notch.

Following the dismissal of Milovan Rajevac after the country’s poor performance in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Cameroon, the Ghana Football Association [GFA] named Otto Addo as the new head coach.

Mas-Ud Didi Dramani and George Boateng were named as the assistant coaches.

Former Brighton and Norwich manager, Chris Hughton was also named as the technical advisor for the team.

Addo and the rest of the technical team members masterminded Ghana’s qualification to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar at the expense of Nigeria.

Despite several Ghanaians calling for the exit of Otto Addo after Ghana’s friendly against Brazil and Nicaragua, Sannie Daara says the Borussia Dortmund assistant coach and the rest of the technical team are the right men for the job.

According to the former Ghana Football Association [GFA] Communications Director, they are top-notch and called on Ghanaians to support the team.

“Look at somebody like Otto Addo and the work he has done at Borussia Dortmund and even with the Black Stars, I think we must be convinced,” he said on Asempa FM.

“You have George Boateng who managed Aston Villa U-23 side and Chris Hughton, who has coached at the highest level in the Premier League, and Didi Dramani who has also worked with FC Nordsjaeland, these are men that are top notch.

“How many black coaches get top jobs in Europe but Otto Addo is at Dortmund. For me, we must support them and I know they are the right men for the job,” he added.

Otto Addo will lead the Black Stars to the Mundial in Qatar. He is expected to name his final 26-man squad on November 14.

Ghana has been housed in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.

  • Will Ghanaians vote for you as president? – Delay asks Agyepong

It’s a question that begs for an answer – whether or not the Ghanaian people will give the New Patriotic Party (NPP) another chance to govern the country when electorates go to the polls in 2024 taking into cognizance the economic hardship that has engulfed the citizenry under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is serving his last term in office.

A number of names have been mentioned as flagbearer hopefuls with a few confirming their willingness to lead the party to ‘break the eight’. One is Kwabena Agyepong, a former General Secretary of the party who also served as Press Secretary to former president John Agyekum Kufuor between 2001 to 2006.

Taking his turn on The Delay Show aired on November 5, 2022, monitored by GhanaWeb, the civil engineer expressed optimism that he is the man to lead the NPP regardless.

“Considering how Ghanaians are wailing and complaining about hunger; Ghanaians are dejected under NPP and now you’re here as a member of the NPP asking to be voted for. Do you think Ghanaians will listen to you?” asked Deloris Frimpong Manso (Delay) who sought to probe the feasibility of Mr. Agyepong’s aspiration.

“They will listen to me,” said the politician. “First and foremost, we need to know that we need someone who would speak the truth always to Ghanaians. We cannot spend what we do not have. Our budget is always in deficit; we need to cut our coats according to the size of cloth we have. We need to be truthful to Ghanaians. For instance, if we cannot construct new roads and put together a proper maintenance review. We like constructing new things without providing any form of maintenance for the old ones.”

Sounding audacious, Agyepong who has been instrumental in the success of the NPP emphasized that it is imperative to ensure value for money and selflessness.

“The value system in this country has disappeared, it has collapsed. Those are the changes I believe it is time for a new dawn, a new dimension, and a new direction. It is very important that we drive that kind of change in this country and let people know that being in office doesn’t mean enriching yourself; rather, you’re there to serve,” he remarked while promising a lean government.

“Appointees go for vetting and you see chiefs in their full regalia escorting him to vetting. They create the impression that there’s something juicy to lick. We have become enablers. That has to stop.

“I will have no time for that kind of thing because I have no time for materialism. I will be very different, very tough. The constitution says we should have 19 ministers. I will not exceed that.”

In the last couple of months, a section of Ghanaians have been calling for the resignation of President Nana Akufo-Addo following record inflation and the government’s handling of the economic crisis.

The president has admitted that times are hard economically and that his government is working assiduously to provide relief to the citizenry.
These views were contained in his October 30, 2022 address to the nation on the state of the economy.

  • 2022 World Cup: Ghana is capable of playing the semi-final – Ibrahim Sannie Daara

Former Ghana Football Association [GFA] Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara has reiterated that the Black Stars have the quality to play in the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana will make their fourth appearance in the Mundial after missing out on the last edition hosted in Russia in 2018.

The quality of the team after the Brazil and Nicaragua games played in September has been criticized.

The team will wrap up their preparations with a friendly game against Switzerland on November 17 in Abu Dhabi.

However, Sannie Daara, who has worked closely with the team believes the team has the full quality to make an impact and play in the semi-final of the tournament.

According to him, Otto Addo, who is the head coach has paraded a side and has created competition among the players.

“I have very much convinced about our chances,” he said on Asempa FM.

“If you look at the team now, Otto Addo has been able to create a competition among the players and every position now has three players competing for the playing spot.

“I hope that Brazil does not come on the way and if that happens, the Black Stars can play in the semi-final. I am convinced about that because we have the quality,” he added.

Ghana will open officially open camp on November 10 in Abu Dhabi. Otto Addo will name his final 26-man squad on November 14.

Ghana, who have been housed in Group H will open their campaign against Portugal on November 24 at Stadium 974 in Doha.

Four days later, the Black Stars return to action with a clash with South Korea at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan.

Ghana will wrap up their group stage adventure with their much-anticipated encounter with Uruguay at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah.

  • Redd Intelligence reports that the government has hired 4 consultancy firms to help them manage its debt

In the midst of continuing negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, the Ghanaian government is reportedly working with four separate consultancy firms on the nation’s economic policies and debt management.

This is stated in a Joy Business study credited to Singapore-based financial and business research company Redd Intelligence.

Due to the fact that the negotiations have not yet been established, the four advising firms are allegedly communicating with the government informally.

Redd Intelligence lists these companies as Lazard, an investment bank; Global Sovereign Advice, a sovereign consultancy firm; Hogan Lovells, a legal firm; and Lion’s Head Global Partners, an investment banking and advisory organization.

The finance and market research firm said although government’s engagement with the IMF is still in the early phases, “there is a push, however, for external bondholders to organise in the next several weeks”.

“Two external bondholder committees are likely. Holders of part-guaranteed 2030 Eurobond may want to set up a separate group”, Redd Intelligence noted.

Meanwhile, the Singapore-based finance company said investment bank, Lazard has been primed to be selected as the financial advisory with the view of pairing with law firm Hogan Lovells on a joint mandate to offer advisory services to Ghana.

In addition to this, consultancy services firm focused on economic and financial strategy Global Sovereign Advisory (GSA) is said to be working with the government of Ghana while investment banking, asset management and advisory firm, Lion’s Head Global Partners is also engaged with government with focus on emerging and frontier markets.

  • Be prepared to buy soup, stew in addition to your fufu, rice – Some restaurant owners hint

Some restaurant owners in the Ashanti Region, have declared their intent to start selling soups and stews along with meals like fufu, banku, and rice.

According to them, this development is a result of the nation’s current economic situation, the high rates of inflation, and the ongoing increases in fuel and food prices.

They specifically mention price increases for ingredients such as oil, meat, and vegetables.

While the business owners recognise the inconvenience this may cause their customers, they are adamant that if the government does not intervene by the end of November, they will proceed with their plan.

Speaking for the group, Mr. Sam Charles, told the media that serving customers free soup and stew is exerting pressure on their income on a daily basis.

“We are giving the government up to the end of this month, if things continue like this, then be ready to put money aside to buy soup and stew. We can’t give these for free and run at a loss. It is not easy. What wrong have we done for giving our power to one person to lead us,” he questioned.

“When someone talks about it, they say the person has been bribed, you will come and buy soup to taste the reality too,”  he added.

He said management has begun laying off employees due to financial constraints posed by the economic hardship.

“We have now started laying off our workers, because we can’t pay them. We are running at a loss. Now when you come to the restaurant, you pick your bowl and wash, so you buy your food with it,” Sam indicated

  • 2022 World Cup: Abukari Damba tips Wollacot to keep first choice spot

Ghana legend, Abubakari Damba has tipped Joseph Luke Wollacott to keep the post as the first-choice goalkeeper ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Charlton Athletic goalie has been the first-choice goalkeeper for the senior national team for the past year.

Richard Ofori, Lawrence Ati Zigi, Danlad Ibrahim, and Abdul Manaf Nuudeen have been relegated to the bench.

In an interview with GNA sports, the former goalie explained that based on his consistent appearance for the team in recent times, he stands the best chance to be offered the number one spot.

He said, though football was a game of uncertainties, players were selected based on reliability, consistency, trustworthiness, and physical fitness, adding that Wollacot had all the qualities outlined ahead of his colleagues.

“We played the qualifiers and had one goalkeeper who had shown consistencies throughout, that is Jojo Wollacott the most used among all the keepers so far, all things being equal he might be the first choice,” he stated.

He argued that Ghana currently does not have goalkeepers playing at top European clubs as compared to other countries, but noted that, the country must manage what was at their disposal.

“One of our challenges is that we don’t have goalkeepers who are very gifted in the team in as much as we would not be satisfied with their performances because of comparisons.

“We see other goalkeepers playing for their clubs and their nations performing well so we do comparisons but I’m very positive that we can do well,” he stated.

The Black Stars have been paired in Group H with Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.

Otto Addo will name his final 26-man squad for the tournament on November 14.

The team would open camp on November 17, before heading to Qatar on November 19.

  • Kume Preko reloaded: Resign by Nov 9 or else .. –  Protestors warn President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has been asked to step down from his position by Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, or face impeachment, according to protestors at the Kume Preko demonstration on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022.

The disgruntled protesters, led by private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, also sent this notice to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, whom they expect to resign alongside President Akufo-Addo.

Mr. Kpebu, who made this announcement on behalf of the protesters, justified his call for both parties to step down by pointing to their egregious incapacity and failure to effectively manage the economy as expected of them.

Mr Kpebu accused the President of creating a conflict of interest by appointing a relative, Mr Ofori-Atta, to head the Finance Ministry.

He also accused the President of enriching himself and his relatives with state funds at the expense of the citizenry.

“I call on the President, his Vice, and the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to resign immediately or latest by Wednesday because for every cedi, for every cedi or every dollar that we borrow as a country, President Akufo-Addo’s family gets richer through Ken Ofori-Atta and that is a clear breach of the Constitution,” he said.

Mr Kpebu has been spearheading a campaign for the President and other top government officials, including the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to resign.

He is baffled by the fact that President Akufo-Addo, one of the prominent personalities who championed the first edition of the Kume Preko demonstration, and vehemently protested the harsh economic conditions at the time, is now head of government, yet he is unable to salvage the dwindling economy.

He, thus, wants the speaker to assume the role of the president while President Akufo-Addo and his deputy, Dr Bawumia recuse themselves from their roles.

“..when the Speaker of Parliament assumes office as the result of the resignation of the President and his Vice, he must take steps to cushion Ghanaians. Times are hard, isn’t it? Fuel prices have gone up, transport fares have gone up. Teachers are suffering, soldiers are suffering and as we are suffering, the Speaker must reduce the taxes and find innovative ways to make sure that the prices of goods are reduced,” he added.

The demonstration comes amid the current harsh economic conditions. The cedi is fast depreciating, inflation is on the rise, fuel prices have seen a significant surge within a short period, and Ghanaians continue to lament.

They have described the situation as unbearable, especially for the scores of citizens who marched from the Obra spot to Independence Square on Saturday.

  • FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 ticket sales reach 2.45 million

With less than 14 days to go until the start of the greatest show on Earth, more than 2.45 million tickets have now been sold. The first FIFA World Cup to be held in the Middle East and Arab world will kick off on 20 November, bringing fans from the region and across the world together in a compact and modern setting, with Qatar, the USA, England, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, the UAE, France, Argentina, Brazil, and Germany leading the ranking of ticket sales by country of residence.

In the last sales period alone, which ran from 5 July to 16 August when fans were able to buy tickets on a first-come, first-served basis via FIFA.com/tickets, a total of 520,532 tickets were sold. The biggest number of allocated tickets were for group-stage matches such as Cameroon v. Brazil, Brazil v. Serbia, Portugal v. Uruguay, Costa Rica v. Germany, and Australia v. Denmark. Fans living in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the USA, Mexico, the UAE, England, Argentina, Brazil, Wales, and Australia led the way – and the digital queues – by securing the biggest number of tickets.

Fans who now hold confirmation for one or more matches in their FIFA ticketing account are encouraged to start planning their trip as soon as possible by booking their accommodation if living outside of Qatar, and by applying for their Hayya (the Fan ID for the tournament) via qatar2022.qa or the ‘Hayya to Qatar 2022’ app (available on iOS and Android). An approved Hayya application, alongside a valid match ticket, will grant spectators access to stadiums, provide entry to Qatar for international fans, and offer free public transport on matchdays, along with a host of other benefits.

Those who have not yet secured their seats, or those who would simply like to take advantage of Qatar’s compact nature by adding more matches to their program, should keep an eye on FIFA.com/tickets from late September onwards when the launch date of the last-minute sales phase will be communicated. During the last-minute sales phase, which will run until the end of the tournament, tickets will also be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and confirmed immediately after payment. FIFA.com/tickets is the only official channel for the general public to buy tickets, with fans urged to stay away from unauthorized websites. Over-the-counter sales will also start in Doha following the launch of the last-minute sales phase.

Shatta Wale made headlines after he named his former manager, Bullgod, as a suspect in the 2014 murder of Fennec Okyere leading to calls for his arrest and the opening of the case involving the unsolved murder.

Reacting to the latest development, Michy, a former fiancée and mother to Shatta’s son, Majesty, has called for “powerful prayers” on behalf of the Dancehall musician.

According to Michy, she senses danger and hoped that her former partner will not be implicated in the murder case. She explained that her family especially her son, will be affected should the unfortunate happen.

Akonnor, who is a former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak head coach was shown the exit after a shaky start to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The former Ashgold gaffer replaced Kwesi Appiah after Ghana’s poor performance in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Egypt.

However, Akonnor was heavily criticized on most occasions for his player selection before games but revealed it is no secret that the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) imposed players on him.

“This is public knowledge,” he said on Prime Take which airs on Joy Sports.

“Many people out there just talk but they have no idea what was happening inside.

“Apart from Covid, it was a challenge controlling player call-ups,” he added.

In his tenure as head coach, the 48-year-old won four games and drew two, losing the other four before being replaced by Milovan Rajevac.

  • Characteristics of a happy couple

A happy relationship and happy marriage usually seem impossible until both individuals decide to make it work.

Happy couples mostly are best friends, each other’s confidantes, and everyday go-to person. They are intentional about their commitment to one another.

They have unconditional love for each other and part of their world is shared only between them.

Happy couples understand that whatever may come at them, being together makes them stronger.

    Here are some common traits of happy couples you might want to normalise to be a happy couple to enjoy your relationship too;

    1. They are happy individuals – According to Proverbs 17:22, “a happy heart is a good medicine and a joyful mind causes healing, but a broken heart dries up the bones”. One can only make their partner happy when they have joy and are at peace with themselves. Therefore, to be able to have a happy marriage or relationship, you need to be a happy person to share your joy and happy moments with your partner.

    2. They respect each other’s boundaries and decisions – A healthy relationship starts with mutual respect, and that includes respecting each other’s emotional and physical boundaries. This doesn’t mean keeping information away from your partner or preventing them from knowing what goes on in your life.

    3. They communicate – This allows you to explain to your partner what you are experiencing and what your needs are. Effective communication helps connects couples and gives them peace in the relationship. Bear in mind that your partner cannot read your mind so you need to communicate your feeling and needs.

    4. They trust each other – trust your partner to be faithful, and trust them with money, and with your feelings. You’re not constantly calling and checking up on your partner if they have to stay late for work, there’s a general sense of ease and trust within the relationship. Avoid checking one another’s phones, and emails for inappropriate messages.

Trust is built and not commanded, give your partner reasons to trust and not doubt you for any reason if you want to have a happy and peaceful marriage or relationship.

    5. They enjoy regular sexual intimacy – being sexually intimate regularly makes a couple emotionally connected. It’s an act that bonds a couple. The closeness created and experienced during sex helps maintains a healthy level of love, and a sense of belongingness which human beings need naturally.

Love is sweet when it’s true and with the right person. Give yourself the chance to love and be loved. Keeping multiple partners brings nothing to the table but rather takes a lot from you.

  • Travis Greene, Ohemaa Mercy, Piesie Esther, others sweep patrons off their feet at 2022 Adom Praiz

Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic struck, patrons of Adom Praiz were deprived of a live concert.

For two years, they had to watch artistes perform virtually and although that was entertaining, the absence of an in-person festival was felt.

So when Adom FM and its sister channel announced the return of the in-person festival, it was an opportunity for fans to once again revisit the joy that accompanies Adom Praiz.

The 2022 lineup – Travis Greene, Celestine Donkor, Piesie Esther, Perez Muzik, Ekow Dadson and others – was seemingly an even bigger motivation for patrons to attend.

Hence, on Friday, November 4, patrons trooped in – in their numbers as early as 5 pm – to the Perez Dome in Dzorwulu to worship God and entertain themselves with songs of praise.

The event was hosted jointly by Adom FM’s Kwamena Idan and Joy FM’s Pastor Ato Acquah.

Although he is not new to Adom Praiz, Sax Borsah’s presence at Perez Dome on such an occasion was a welcome sight.

The saxophonist was the opening act for the 2022 edition.

Leading the set with his renditions of popular gospel songs, Sax Borsah had patrons on their feet worshiping and singing to the glory of God as they prepared to witness thrilling performances from the other acts.

Thus when Jesse Morgan and later ‘Big God’ hitmaker Kofi Owusu Peprah took the stage, the audience were charged, – on their feet and hands in the air – they danced and sang along to their hits.

Meanwhile, singer Efe Grace gave a performance that moved the crowd in the Perez Dome.

Her ministrations sent patrons to their knees and others seemingly ‘in the spirit’ as they listened to her deliver one of the moving performances of the night.

Although fans were bumped to see her time on stage come to an end, they were soon compensated with a sermon from Prophet Gideon Danso.

The renowned man of God encouraged Christians and Ghanaians at large to remain steadfast in Christ amid the economic challenge.

His sermon gave hope to the audience as they looked up to God and prayed for strength and brighter days.

When he exited the stage, the man of the moment, the 2022 Adom Praiz headliner Travis Greene surprised fans by mounting the stage.

He got eager fans pulling out their phones to capture his performance so they could revisit the moment any time they wanted.

Excited fans were even taken aback when the wife of Travis joined him on stage mid-way through his performance.

    Jacqueline Gyamfi Greene

Although her time was short, she sang, delivered a soulful performance and prayed for patrons.

From Make a Way to Intentional, Travis Greene not only thrilled the audience but left a lasting impression on them.

The headliner may have been done but there was more to look forward to.

Ohemaa Mercy brought the dome to a standstill when she graced the stage, first starting her performance with a spirit-filled ministration and later performing some of her biggest hits.

Many patrons moved to the front not only to see her better but dance and sing along to her songs.

They were willing to abandon their chairs to continue standing for the exciting performances from Pastor Edwin Dadson and later Soul Winners.

Fans pulled out their handkerchief, with some forming a long line or a circle; dancing to every praise tune these two acts put out.

Between Pastor Dadson’s medley of popular gospel songs including This far by Grace, Higher and ‘Nnaase’ and Soul Winners’ song ministrations, fans could not hold back their excitement – they were definitely a crowd favorite.

Perez Muzik with his talented vocalist then took over-delivering an electrifying performance at the Perez Dome.

But as promised he was not the final act to grace the stage.

Renowned Gospel singer Piesie Esther moved fans to tears with her performance especially when she soulfully sang her testimony-inspired song, ‘Wa Ye Me Yie’.

Celestine Donkor meanwhile, wowed the audience when she started off with a heated worship session.

She then switched to a praise session during which congregants couldn’t help but dance.

Gospel musician, Jacob Kwaw, popularly known as Jack Alolome, completed the job started by those before him – maintaining a charged atmosphere and entertaining the crowd.

With hit songs like ‘Tomorow by this time’, ‘Woso me mu’ and others, Jack was in his element when it came to giving the audience what they paid for – an exciting performance.

  • The Crown: Seven takeaways from the latest series of Netflix’s royal drama

Season five of Netflix’s The Crown has already created its own drama before its release on Wednesday, causing controversy over its depiction of the royal family.

Netflix defended its show as a “fictional dramatisation”, after Sir John Major and Dame Judi Dench questioned its accuracy.

It has also added a disclaimer to its marketing for the show, saying it is “inspired by real-life events”.

I’ve spent my Friday night binge-watching all 10 new episodes, to find out just what this new series is like – here are my takeaways.

    1. It’s hard to tell fact from fiction

Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Natascha McElhone as Penny Knatchbull
Sir Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip with Natascha McElhone as Penny Knatchbull

The closer this series gets to the present day, the more the truth and and the blurring of fact and fiction matters.

This season is set in the 90s and the Queen – played magnificently for the first time by Imelda Staunton – is in her mid-60s. Her children’s marriages are failing and, controversially, the show suggests an affair between Prince Philip and Lady Romsey, 32 years his junior.

The Duke of Edinburgh, played by Jonathan Pryce, denies it, but in a testing scene, he tells the Queen of his “disenchantment” with the marriage. But The Crown is so plausible and so human that it’s always been impossible as a general viewer to distinguish drama from reality.

In the absence of royal-related facts that we will likely never know, this fiction fills the void, and for many becomes the truth.

So soon after the Queen’s death, and with so many of the characters still living, that feels more difficult to justify editorially.

    2. John Major’s portrayal is a revelation

Jonny Lee Miller as John Major in The Crown
Jonny Lee Miller plays then Prime Minister John Major

The former prime minister has attacked this series for suggesting Prince Charles wanted to force the Queen to abdicate, calling that “malicious nonsense”.

But in The Crown, the politician, once ridiculed by Spitting Image for being dull and boring (and eating peas), is anything but.

Brilliantly brought to the screen by Jonny Lee Miller, he’s highly regarded by the Queen – a wise voice of the people and a diplomatic go-between in the messy divorce-wrangling between Charles and Diana.

(And there are no peas in sight when his wife, Norma, played by Flora Montgomery, serves up his dinner in episode nine).

    It’s a revelation.

    3. Elizabeth Debicki steals the show

Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, Princess of Wales
Elizabeth Debicki said she was initially overwhelmed at the prospect of playing Diana, Princess of Wales

The voice (hesitant, breathy, the right side of posh), the dipped head as she looks up through her eyelashes, the haircut, the expressions and, of course, the clothes; it’s all so Diana.

While Dominic West does his best to inhabit the character of (the then) Prince Charles, he’s too suave and too obviously handsome to be entirely believable.

    Debicki is perfect.

    4. The BBC comes under scrutiny

    Imelda Staunton
Imelda Staunton takes over the role of the Queen from Olivia Colman

The BBC is a character in series five and it doesn’t make comfortable viewing.

The Queen’s loyalty to the BBC is juxtaposed with the bigger, damaging story of the interview Princess Diana gave to Panorama and the controversies surrounding how it was obtained.

The BBC has said it will never broadcast the interview again, but The Crown recreates the scenes.

Any drama about the royal family from that time would likely do the same, but it’s hard not to imagine the pain it will cause those involved and is grist to the mill of those who say The Crown should have stopped long before it reached such a recent and difficult period.

The advent of satellite television and what that means for the BBC also is a thread that runs through this series.

The Queen is resistant to changing her TV until Prince William tells her if she gets a satellite dish, she’ll be able to watch a racing channel any time she wants.

    5. Money has been no object

    Royal family portrait photo
Season five depicts the Royal Family during the 90s

The Crown is believed to cost around £10m an episode (though that’s always been denied by its creator and writer Peter Morgan).

In this series, it appears again money has been no object.

We’re offered sumptuous stand-ins for royal houses and palaces, a recreation of the Hong Kong handover ceremony and we see Her Majesty in London’s Guildhall making her famous “annus horribilis” speech.

The (fading) Royal Yacht Britannia becomes a metaphor through the series for a sense that the Queen herself is becoming out of touch, obsolete and irrelevant.

I can see why the writers leapt on that narrative – the yacht was decommissioned in 1997 in the first year of Tony Blair’s administration. But the parallels feel overdone, particularly in light of the real Queen’s subsequently long and lauded reign.

    6. Does it show Britain stuck in the past?

Imelda Staunton as the Queen in The Crown
Imelda Staunton shows the Queen in public and private moments

The Crown affects how Britain is viewed internationally, but it probably only confirms what people already think.

The Britain of the programme is awash with regal splendour. We see fine dining and the classrooms of Eton; the English are depicted as lovers of game shooting and good manners.

For some, these portrayals mean we’ll be seen as a country stuck in the past, for others as one informed by a rich history.

Some of the tensions in series five concern whether it was the Queen or Prince Charles who had a better sense of what modern Britain represented.

In real life, the pageantry of Her Majesty’s funeral showcased the country to the world. In its own way, The Crown could be applauded for also keeping Britain on the world stage.

    7. It reflects our own complexities

    Dominic West
Dominic West as Prince Charles, as he was known then

Humans are complex and the characters in The Crown are no exception.

Much of the controversy around this series has been about whether Prince, now King, Charles is unfairly portrayed in his relationship with Princess Diana, and as he tries to find a role for himself as Prince of Wales.

After five series of The Crown, my sense is that writer Peter Morgan’s skill is that he shows us the complexity of what it means to be human.

He falls in love with his characters and can’t help but infuse them with real depth of emotion.

Only the most fervent anti-monarchist would fail to respond.

  • The church service that nearly marred the Kume preko demo

Dubbed ‘Kume preko reloaded’ the demonstration was to protest the current economic crisis, as was seen in 1995 when Charles Wereko-Brobby led some Ghanaians (including Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is currently the President) to contest the economic hardship under the Rawlings regime.

Not even an ongoing church service at the Independence Square could stop the Ku me Preko demonstrators from conveying their message to the President, his Vice and the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

Their message was simple; the aforementioned persons must resign over the current economic hardships or risk being impeached.

The protestors could not fathom why a man who played a key role in the 1995 Kume preko demonstration would be in power, and supervise the collapse of the economy.

They had been marching from the Obra Spot in Circle and were hoping to end their march at the Independent Square as agreed with the Ghana Police Service.

To their utter surprise, there was an ongoing church service at the Independence Square when they got there; a situation which did not sit down well with the protestors. There was a little agitation, with some protestors hooting at the church members, however, calm was restored shortly.

This incident did not stop them from relaying their message to the President. They converged around the statue of the soldier facing the Independence Arch, and outlined their plights; key among them was a call on the President to immediately “slash the prices of fuel by 50%.”

They lamented the failure of the government to redeem Ghanaians from the situation, as President Akufo-Addo promised.

According to the protestors, the President has plunged the country into extreme poverty, citing the hikes in prices of goods, the fall of the cedi, the astronomical surge in fuel prices, etc.

Some prominent personalities who graced the occasion included Private Legal Practitioner, Martin Kpebu, who was the convenor of this demonstration, #FixTheCountry convenor, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, and a host of others.

  • Russia-Ukraine war: Shirley Botchwey holds talk with G7 over shocks on Africa

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has held talks with G7 Foreign Ministers on efforts to tackle the climate crisis as well as food and energy security as a consequence of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

She also proffered suggestions on how these pertinent issues may be resolved with a concerted effort when she participated in the Outreach Session of G7 Foreign Ministers meeting in Munster, Germany.

The Meeting, which was hosted by Germany under its tenure as President of the G7, had in attendance all Foreign Ministers from the G7 group – USA, Italy, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, Japan, France and the European Union.

Discussions during the outreach segment of the meeting centred on current geopolitical challenges, with particular reference to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and its impact on world trade, supply chains, energy and resilience of democratic institutions in the face the emerging threats to the rule-based global order.

Shirley Botchwey was invited together with her counterpart from Kenya and the Chair of the African Union (AU) to engage with the G7 ministers on existential threats posed by the restive Sahel region and the wider security implications it presents.

Also on the agenda was the security situation in the Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa as well as the recent peace accord brokered over the conflict between government of Ethiopia and the Tigray Rebels and how to practically implement the terms of the ceasefire so as to avoid a relapse to the status quo ante.

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey also held bilateral talks with her counterparts from Japan, the United States, Germany, United Kingdom and Canada on the margins of the meeting.

During the said meetings, she discussed matters of mutual interest, bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the light of Ghana’s tenure as Chair of the United Nations (UN) Security Council for the month of November, 2022.

A press statement issued by her office added that the minister briefed her counterparts on the progress of the Accra Initiative and efforts to employ its collaborative security mechanism to prevent infiltration and a spill-over of the activities of terrorist elements from the Sahel into coastal states on the Gulf of Guinea.

  • The Drake and Megan Thee Stallion “Circo Loco” lyric controversy, explained

Following a cycle of fake promotional stunts, Drake and 21 Savage gifted fans with their much-anticipated joint album, Her Loss.

As with previous Drake efforts, this project immediately caused a stir on social media, but not necessarily for the right reasons.

Since the album’s release on Friday, Drake has faced mounting backlash over “Circo Loco,” a Boi-1da- and Tay Keith- produced cut that has been called confusing, petty, and down right misogynistic.

The controversy stems from the track’s opening verse, in which Drake appears to reference Megan Thee Stallion and her 2020 shooting incident involving Tory Lanez.

The lyrics have ignited a debate about Drake’s intentions, and have prompted responses from fans and entertainment figures, including Megan.

  • Twitter could soon charge users to DM celebs and other ‘very important Tweeters’

Twitter is clearly under heavy financial pressure.

In the week since Elon Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion, the social media giant has been trying to find ways to cut costs and boost revenue. Musk reportedly told investors he plans to eliminate 3,700 jobs at Twitter Inc., which is about half of the company’s workforce. He’s also announced potential changes to the Twitter Blue subscription service, including the addition of an $8-per-month fee for the highly coveted “verified” badge.

However, the cost-saving ideas don’t end there. According to the New York Times, the company is also working on a paid direct messaging feature focused on “Very Important Tweeters.” Sources “with knowledge of the matter” say the platform could soon charge users to send direct messages to high-profile figures, including celebrities and professional athletes.

Internal documents reviewed by the Times state Twitter points to an early prototype in which a user is shown asking Post Maline about his favorite records.

The message would appear in a special box designated for paid DMs.

The company did not provide the exact cost of each VIT message, but said it could be “as little as a few dollars.”

  • You can now use Voter’s ID to register SIM cards – Sam George alleges

Member of Parliament for Nigo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George says the Minister of Communication and Digitalisation has finally paid heed to calls to amend the guidelines for the SIM card registration exercise.

According to him, after several deliberations and consultations with stakeholders, the sector minister, Ursula Owusu Ekuful has directed Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to accept voter ID Cards as a document for the registration

Taking to his Facebook post, Mr Sam George touted that “Our struggles have yielded success.

The Ningo-Prampram legislator has since the inception of the SIM card registration exercise been vocal about his displeasure with the sole documentation of the Ghana card in registering SIM cards.

He stated that the challenges bedevilling the National Identification Authority (NIA) in issuing the card have made it impossible for citizens to partake in the exercise.

Therefore, introducing the voter’s ID card is in the right direction and will help the Ministry achieve its objectives as part of measures to curb fraudulent activities.

  • Nike suspends relationship with Kyrie Irving, will no longer release signature shoe

The fallout from Kyrie Irving sharing a link to an antisemitic film on Instagram continues, as his biggest endorsement partner, Nike, has responded to his recent actions.

Shams Charania reports that Nike is suspending its partnership with Irving effective immediately. As a result, the company will no longer launch the Kyrie 8, which was set to release in various colorways this month.

Nike also issued the following statement regarding its decision to take action.

The move comes after the Brooklyn Nets announced that they’ve suspended the point guard for a minimum of five games, citing what they felt was his refusal to “unequivocally say he has no antisemitic beliefs, nor acknowledge specific hateful material in the film.” NBA commissioner Adam Silver is also expected to meet with Irving soon.

The relationship between Nike and Irving was already in question after he publicly slammed what was supposed to be the Kyrie 8 last season, calling the finished design “trash” in a comment on Instagram. The shoe was later renamed the Kyrie Infinity, shifting the Kyrie 8 name to this season’s model. Following that incident, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne reported that Nike would not be renewing Irving’s contract following the 2022-23 season and that the Kyrie 8 would be his last sneaker with the company. That news was never confirmed by Nike.

In a post shared on Instagram on Thursday, Irving did apologize for his actions, saying “To All Jewish families and Communities that are hurt and affected from my post, I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize.”

  • Jalen Rose apologizes for comments on Ime Udoka’s alleged affair

ESPN analyst Jalen Rose raised eyebrows Friday night when he addressed Ime Udoka’s cheating scandal and his rumored move to the Brooklyn Nets.

Rose reiterated his support for Udoka and questioned why the Celtics staffer who was allegedly involved with Udoka had not been publicly identified.

“We know his name, maybe I’m missing something as it relates to the law, but why we don’t know her name,” he reportedly said during NBA Countdown. “It’s not like she’s a minor. I think we should know her name publicly, as well.”

The former NBA player apologized for the comments during halftime of the Boston Celtics-Chicago Bulls game.

“I would like to apologize for a comment I made earlier on NBA Countdown,” he said. “I questioned why a woman’s name who had an alleged affair with Celtics head coach Ime udoka was not made public. After an internal investigation, and it was discovered that she was a subordinate to the head coach, I now understand fully why her name should not be released to the public.”’

More than a year after Udoka was hired as the Celtics head coach, an independent law firm determined he had an improper intimate relationship with a female Celtics staffer who was also married. Shortly after, the team announced Udoka had been suspended for the entirety of the 2022-23 season because he had violated multiple team policies.

Udoka addressed the decision in a statement to ESPN in September.

“I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down,” he said.

“I am sorry for putting the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team’s decision. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will have no further comment.”
