I am at the square outside the Museum of Art in Tel Aviv. It is called hostages plaza. People come here to protest and show support for hostages and their families.
The Shabbat table is still standing with empty chairs for each hostage.
Some places are set aside for women and children. It is expected that they will be brought back within the next day.
There is a lot of activity happening here this morning. A person is playing the piano near posters displaying photos of the hostages. The posters are surrounded by Israeli flags.
A chessboard is shown with each kidnap victim represented as a chess piece.
Today feels like a time when something new and important might happen.
Last night, we heard a sudden protest from the families of the hostages. They really wanted to make the deal happen.
Now, there is a mixture of excitement and worry.
This deal is very delicate. People will stay worried until they see the hostages being released.
But it seems like things will get better soon.

What will the halt bring about in Gaza?
As we have been telling you, Israel and Hamas have agreed to release 50 hostages and stop fighting for a while so that essential supplies can be sent to Gaza.
Hamas talked about how the break in fighting might happen in Gaza.
It says that drone and Israeli planes will not fly for four days in the southern area.
In the north, this will only happen from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm every day.
Israeli soldiers and tanks will stay in the area and not attack or arrest anyone, according to Hamas.
The agreement will also let 200 trucks with aid, four trucks with fuel, and four trucks with gas go into Gaza through Egypt’s Rafah crossing for four days.More update on this story soon…

Relatives of hostages hold press conference after meeting with Pope Francis
We’re going to talk briefly about what happened in Rome. The family members of hostages had a news conference after meeting with Pope Francis this morning.
Karina Ariev’s 19-year-old sister Alexandra also spoke at the event. Karina was working at an Israeli army base close to Gaza when she was taken by force.
Alexandra says that every minute and every hour are really important for the hostages. She also says that every one of them needs to come back home. Not in boxes. They need to return home and share the stories of the people who were killed, so we can learn from them and have a better future.
After Nimrod Cohen, who is 19, comes his father. He says that when Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October, our lives changed a lot. We don’t think about day and night, we just wait for him to come back and for others to return to Israel.
Rachel, Hersh Goldberg-Polin’s mom, says her son and his friends hid in a bomb shelter at the Supernova music festival in California. It was attacked by Hamas militants.
“Many people died, but a few survived and were able to tell us what happened. Rachel says Hersh lost his left arm from the elbow down. ”
She said it was 47 days ago that her heart was buried in Gaza.
Finally, someone from Kibbutz Be’eri came. His sister, Raaya Rotem, 45, and niece, Hila Rotem Shoshani, 13, were taken into Gaza.
He hasn’t heard from Raaya since 12:05 on October 7th and doesn’t know what’s happening. -

Global leaders hope agreement will make war in Gaza end
As we’ve been saying, the fighting will stop tomorrow morning at 10:00 local time.
In the past few hours, we’ve received more responses from diplomats about the deal. Here are some important people’s opinions.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the World Health Organization, says he is happy about the truce, but thinks it won’t stop people from suffering. He wants the effort to free the rest of the hostages to keep going and for fighting to stop in Gaza.
The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres thinks it’s a good start, but there’s still a lot more work to do.
The Turkish government hopes the agreement will help stop the war and start a process for a fair and lasting peace with two separate states.
In another place, King Abdullah of Jordan is going to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi to discuss how to stop the fighting between Israel and the Palestinians, according to a statement from the palace. -

Deal deemed ‘very fragile’ by former hostage negotiator
A person who used to work on making peace and helping free hostages for Israel said the agreement between Israel and Hamas is not very strong.
Gershon Baskin, who helped free Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in 2011, said to the media that this agreement is very hard.
Baskin said: “There are two groups of people who don’t trust each other and have no good reason to trust each other. ”
A lot of things might go wrong. There is no sure thing, and anything could cause the agreement to fall apart. -

Pilot intends to motivate Liberians after flying plane across Atlantic Ocean alone
Abner Yonly, a pilot from Liberia who lives in the US, is coming back to Liberia after flying a plane across the Atlantic Ocean all by himself. He is the first black person to do this in a small plane.
Mr Yonly started his trip in Maryland, in the US. Then he went across the North Atlantic to Canada, Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, the UK, France, and Spain.
He arrived in Africa in Morocco and has now landed safely in Dakar, Senegal.
MrYonly is supposed to arrive at Roberts International Airport in Liberia at 4:00 PM GMT on Wednesday, as per his flight schedule.
Mr Yonly said in a statement that he wanted to be a pilot and also wanted to inspire others.
I realized during training that I could be a leader and inspire my generation to do amazing things, not just learn how to fly,” he said.
Mr Yonly wants to inspire other Liberians, especially young people born after 1980, by becoming the first Liberian-born pilot to fly a plane.
“Our mom and dad told us about Air Liberia, which is flown by pilots from Liberia. ” We didn’t see it. This will show them that if you work hard and stay determined, you can make your dreams come true. -

Drilling continues to rescue Indian labourers stranded
Workers are drilling again near the tunnel entrance in the Uttarakhand state of India. 41 workers have been stuck there for 10 days.
Work stopped on Friday because rescuers heard a cracking sound while drilling.
Authorities say they have other plans to save the men, like drilling down from the top of the mountain, and they are going well.
The workers were digging a tunnel when part of it collapsed on 12 November because of a landslide.
The rescue team reached the trapped men and gave them oxygen, dry snacks, and water through a special pipe that was used for the tunnel construction.
On Monday, worried family members gathered around the tunnel felt a little better when a small camera was placed inside and showed footage of the workers. Authorities told them to show who they are on camera and promised that they would be saved soon.
The new pipe is bigger and officials say they can now provide more oxygen, food, and other important things like medicine, phones, and chargers.
On Tuesday, the workers received their first hot meal in 10 days. Rescuers put khichdi (a rice and lentil dish) in bottles and sent it to them.
Rescuers started drilling again near the entrance of the tunnel at 2:00 am local time on Wednesday. Officials told the BBC. They have dug a hole 39 meters (128 feet) into the rubble up to now.
So far, they have put in four 900mm wide pipes through the rubble. Now they are using 800mm wide pipes and a telescopic tunneling method to keep pushing through the debris.
The idea is to send different sized pipes through a 60m wall of debris to make a small tunnel for the workers to crawl through.
However, the rescue has been slowed down because the ground is not stable, there are big rocks, and debris is falling, which is causing delays and problems.
On Wednesday, officials said at a press briefing that rescuers found iron rods in the debris while drilling, but it didn’t cause any problems for the work.
Other plans are also moving forward – people are trying to reach the men through the other side of the tunnel.
On Wednesday, a leader said they built a track and moved equipment to start drilling straight down into the mountain.
Officials are sure they can rescue the men, but they don’t know how long it will take.
“We are trying everything we can and we will do it,” said Col Deepak Patil, who is in charge of the rescue mission, in an interview with the BBC earlier this week.
The person in charge said at a meeting on Wednesday that they want to tell us some good news either tonight or tomorrow. He also said that the doctors are at the place where the workers are trapped and talking to them.
The Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi district is a part of a big project by the government to make it easier for people to travel to important religious places in Uttarakhand. The hilly state has lots of tall mountains and icy rivers. It’s where important places for Hindus can be found.
The area is not very strong against natural disasters like earthquakes and landslides. -

Pilot found guilty of using plane to decapitate skydiver
A French pilot can’t fly anymore because he accidentally killed a skydiver with his plane’s wing.
Nicolas Galy, who is 40 years old, was hit while in the air right after he jumped from a plane in July 2018.
The pilot, whose name hasn’t been given, was found to be responsible for causing someone’s death and was given a suspended sentence by the Montauban criminal court on Tuesday.
The school that hired the pilot has to pay a 20,000 euro fine.
Half of the money, 10,000 euros, has been stopped, according to French media.
According to Le Parisien, right after the plane dropped, the pilot started to lower the plane towards the airport runway.
Before the person jumped out of the flying vehicle, there was no discussion about the path the vehicle would follow, the article mentioned.
On 19th September, the victim’s relatives’ lawyer, Emmanuelle Franck, said that there was a lot of carelessness or not paying enough attention.
The head of the court in south-west France also mentioned that the victim and the pilot did not communicate well.
After the event, security has been improved and now everyone must attend briefings, according to the report. -

Zimbabwean mother pulls son out of baboon’s mouth
A mother from Zimbabwe rescued her son from a baboon’s mouth when the animal tried to take him away. She told VOA (Voice of America) about it.
Petronella Moyo said her 18-month-old child was playing at their home in Matabeleland when the incident happened last week.
She said she heard her son yelling and when she looked up, the baboon was pulling him away.
The baboon jumped onto the house with her baby in her mouth and said, “I was really scared. ” “I thought he was not alive. ”
However, she ran after the baboon and successfully got her child back.
Ms Moyo’s son got hurt but he will get better soon at Gwanda Provincial Hospital.
Baboons usually don’t care about people, but they can get aggressive and attack if they are bothered. They can be very dangerous because they have sharp teeth and claws. -

Israel removes its ambassador from South Africa
Israel called back its ambassador in South Africa to have a discussion.
On Monday, the ministry spokesperson Lior Haiat said that the decision was made because of recent statements from South Africa about Israel. He didn’t give details.
South Africa does not like what Israel is doing in Gaza with their military.
On Tuesday, the members of parliament voted to suggest closing the Israeli embassy until there is a stop to the fighting and a promise to talk things out.
248 people in parliament voted yes and 91 voted no.
All politicians from the ruling African National Congress agreed with it, but we don’t know if the government will do what was suggested.
Even though the person in charge didn’t like it, some members of parliament shouted “free, free Palestine” after the decision was made.
Israel started a big war in Gaza because hundreds of Hamas fighters attacked them. At least 1,200 people were killed and over 200 were taken captive.
US President Joe Biden said that a deal where Hamas would release some hostages is almost done.
The health ministry in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, says that at least 13,000 people have died in the area since Israel started its campaign in response.
Israel is saying that they are protecting themselves and want to stop Hamas and prevent another attack like the one last month.
The Israeli Ambassador Eliav Belotserkovsky was called back to Israel just before South Africa started hosting a virtual meeting of the Brics group of countries, including China and Russia, to talk about the Israel-Hamas war.
At the end, the Brics leaders asked for a quick and lasting break from fighting in Gaza to help people in need.
China’s leader, President Xi Jinping, also asked for the freedom of people who are not soldiers and are being held captive.
The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, said it was wrong to punish all Palestinian people for the actions of a few.
Vladimir Putin said the US is stopping other countries from making peace in the Middle East.
South Africa asked the International Criminal Court to arrest Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, by the middle of December.
Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said if this didn’t happen, it would show that global leadership has failed.
South Africa, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Comoros, and Djibouti have asked the ICC to look into if war crimes and crimes against humanity happened in Gaza.
The UN Security Council wants to have short breaks in fighting so that UN workers can go into the area that is blocked off.
South Africa brought its diplomats back from Israel earlier this month. For five years, there has not been a South African ambassador in Israel. -

MPs in South Africa vote to sever ties with Israel
South African lawmakers voted to shut down the Israeli embassy in Pretoria and stop all diplomatic ties.
The African National Congress, which controls parliament, has always disapproved of Israel and it backed the decision in parliament.
The plan asked for the embassy to be shut down and for ties to be stopped until Israel agrees to stop fighting and starts serious talks.
248 people said yes, while 91 people said no. As it happened, some people shouted “free, free Palestine”.
Before the vote in South Africa, Israel asked its ambassador to come back home for discussions. They said they did this because of the recent statements made by South Africa.
President Cyril Ramaphosa sent Israel to the International Criminal Court for possibly committing war crimes. He also called back South Africa’s diplomats from Israel.
He led an online meeting of the Brics countries on Tuesday to talk about what’s happening in Gaza.
He said that Israel was killing a lot of people in Gaza and punishing all the Palestinian people.
Israel is saying it’s protecting itself and trying to get rid of Hamas in Gaza. -

Ghanaian MP extends regrets to football player Harry Maguire
A politician from Ghana said sorry to English soccer player Harry Maguire for saying he was not good at his job. The politician had compared Maguire to the vice president of Ghana.
Last year, the MP said that Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia did a bad job with Ghana’s economy and compared him to a soccer player who scores goals for the other team.
But Isaac Adongo, a member of parliament, said on Tuesday that the Manchester United defender’s luck had improved.
“Sorry, Harry Maguire. I apologize” Today, Harry Maguire has improved a lot and become a really good football player,” he said in parliament while talking about money.
He complained about Mr. Bawumia’s work as vice-president and head of Ghana’s Economic Management Team. He said it has made the country owe more money and could harm its economy.
Harry Maguire is an important player for Manchester, but our Maguire, Mr. Bawumia, is now working at the IMF with a cup in hand,” he said.
Ghana is facing its worst economic crisis in a long time.
“Inflation went up to 54% last year, and is still at more than 35% now. “ -

Flood aid denied by Kenya’s government
Kenya’s Vice President Rigathi Gachagua said that the government won’t give money to help with the floods, even though the country is facing one of the worst floods in a long time.
The governor of Mombasa disagreed with Mr. Gachagua’s earlier statement that the government sent 10 billion Kenyan shillings to counties for flood response. This comes after Mombasa has been heavily affected by ongoing floods.
Flash floods last week killed at least 13 people in Mombasa and three nearby counties.
“We are surprised that governors are saying they still haven’t gotten money for El Nino from the national government. They won’t be getting that money,” Mr. Gachagua said on Wednesday.
“We want them to use money set aside for emergencies or move money around in their budget to help the people they are in charge of. ”
The Kenya Red Cross said that 71 people have died from the floods in the country.
The non-profit Oxfam says that the continuous heavy rains and flooding caused by El Niño have led to the deaths of 130 people in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia. -

Ex-Mayor of Johannesburg in hot water over gun image endorsing Hamas
Ex-Johannesburg mayor Thapelo Amad caused trouble when he shared a picture of himself holding a gun to show support for the Palestinian group Hamas.
“We support Hamas, Hamas supports us, and together we will free Palestine. ” “We will take over Al AQSA with our hearts and our determination,” Mr. Amad wrote on the picture he posted on Tuesday, but he has now removed.
Some X users think that the picture and the words in the caption encourage hate and violence.
“Tim Flack said that Mr. Amad’s tweet is worrying because it sounds aggressive and supports a violent group. He also said that he reported Mr. Amad to the South African Human Rights Commission. ”
Other people on the platform supported Mr. Amad’s message, but thought the photo of the gun wasn’t needed. -

Anti-gay law apologies to be debated by French Senate
It was really bad for me. It was very embarrassing.
Bernard Bousset talks about the things that happened and how they made a big impact on his life. He speaks clearly, but it’s clear to see that he is still very upset about it, even after all these years.
In 1964, a man he stayed with took his watch and some money while he was sleeping. After filing a theft report, the police accused Mr. Bousset of having sex with a minor. This was based on a law from Vichy France that discriminated, having different ages for gay and straight sex.
Mr Bousset, who is 82 years old now, was given a big fine. However, what was even worse was how the media reported about the conviction, which made it known to everyone around him. He remembers that the outcomes were very bad. Back then, people did not think positively about homosexuality. My family stopped talking to me. I felt very embarrassed.
“If you are gay, you might get fired and lose your place to live. ” “You had no freedom to do anything. ”
Mr Bousset is one of around 10,000 people, mostly gay men, who were found guilty of breaking laws meant to punish homosexuals between 1942 and 1982.
On Wednesday, the French Senate will talk about a law to say sorry to people who were hurt by unfair anti-gay laws.
If the bill is approved, it will give money to people who were hurt by two unfair laws. During the Vichy era, the law said 21-year-olds could have sex with people of the same gender, while 13-year-olds could have sex with people of the opposite gender. After the Nazis left in 1945, the new government kept the law.
A law passed in 1960 made it illegal to be gay, along with alcoholism, drug use, and prostitution. Antoine Idier, an associate professor at a political sciences university, says that judges had a lot of freedom to go after gay people using laws that punish public indecency.
MrIdier says that people who were affected by the unfair laws often had their lives destroyed. People might have to pay money or go to jail for a few months. When they came out, many people were shunned by society. Some people lost their jobs or had to leave their homes and move to a new city. He also mentioned that sometimes people even commit suicide.
Charles Trenet, the singer of La Mer and Douce France, was accused of trying to get young men to do something wrong in 1963. He was found guilty and spent 28 days in prison. Although the charges were eventually dismissed, the well-known case made Mr. Trenet’s homosexuality public, which he had kept private.Hussein Bourgi, a politician from the Socialist party, said it’s time to help the people who were hurt by a law that caused a lot of problems for them and their families.
If the new law is approved, it would make France do the same thing as other European countries. They have said sorry to the people who were hurt by laws against gay people.
In 2017, the UK passed a law called the “Turing Law” which pardoned gay men who were convicted under unfair laws. In the same year, Germany said sorry to the people hurt by laws that targeted gay people during the time of the Nazis. This continued even after the war ended.
“According to Régis Schlagdenhauffen, an assistant professor at EHESS, France is behind other countries in addressing this issue of persecution of gay people. ” “But it needs to acknowledge the unfairness while some people who were hurt are still alive. ”
“He says France will be better because of this. ”
The law might not be approved. At first, some senators weren’t sure about the idea of giving €10,000 to living victims. Even if the Senate agrees to it, it still has to be approved by the National Assembly to become a law.
Mr Idier thinks the bill is not good enough as it is. He says the law should also consider people who were found guilty before 1942. The laws at that time did not specifically aim at homosexuals, but judges had the power to use them against gay people.
Mr Bousset thinks the bill is good, but he feels like France should have tried to deal with its past sooner.
“It won’t make the pain I went through, and that many gay people still experience, go away,” he said. “It’s hard to believe, but even now, I feel embarrassed when I’m around straight people. ”
I always had this strong belief that I couldn’t get rid of. “It’s inside me. “ -

Army of South Sudan allegedly attacked residents in Abyei
The South Sudan army is accused of attacking and killing 40 civilians in a disputed area called Abyei.
Sultaan Bulabek, the leader of the nine main areas in Abyei, told the media that soldiers and armed young people from Twic county in Warrap state did co-ordinated attacks in many villages.
He said that the attack was meant to force the Ngok community to leave their houses.
Someone who lives there told the media without giving their name that their cousin was killed in the attack. They also said they couldn’t get the body because there was a lot of heavy weapons.
Maj Gen Akuei Ajou, who leads the third division of the SSPDF, said that the force is there to keep people safe between Twic and Abyei and denied the accusations.
He said that young people from Abyei were responsible for the attack on a military base that killed seven soldiers and civilians, including children, on November 13th.
The embassies of Norway, the UK, and the US said that South Sudan should remove its soldiers from Abyei to stop the fighting from getting worse.
Abyei has been a problem between Sudan and South Sudan for a long time.
The UN Security Council decided to keep its peacekeepers in place for another year. The soldiers have been in Abyei since 2011. -

Nigeria and Germany sign gas supply deal
Nigeria and Germany agreed to work together on a deal that will send more gas to Germany. The deal also includes $500 million in renewable energy investments for Nigeria.
Nigeria’s leader said that a gas contract was approved at a business conference in Berlin between Riverside LNG project in the Niger Delta and a German company called Johannes Schuetze Energy Import.
David Ige, who is helping with the Nigerian project, said they will send a lot of energy from Nigeria to Germany each year. At first, it will be 850,000 tons, but it will increase to 1. 2 million tons later on. The first gas from the agreement will be sent to Germany in 2026.
The Union Bank of Nigeria and the DWS Group agreed for the German company to invest $500 million in renewable energy projects in Nigeria.
Germany is talking to Siemens, a big electronics company, to help Nigeria make its electricity supply better because Nigeria often has no power. This was reported by German state broadcaster Deutsche Welle.
German leader Olaf Scholz promised to give more money to help Nigeria’s important minerals and energy industries when he talked with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja in October. -

South Korea halts portion of North Korean military agreement
South Korea stopped parts of the 2018 deal with North Korea to reduce military tensions.
This happened after Pyongyang said they sent a spy satellite into space and it worked.
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said that the launch put South Korea in danger.
Seoul said it will start flying surveillance planes again near the border with North Korea, even though there is an agreement not to do so.
Some experts say that these changes could make tensions worse.
Pyongyang launched a rocket on Tuesday. They said it had their Malligyong-1 spy satellite in it. They said the launch was successful.
The US and South Korea can’t tell if the launch worked or if the spy satellite is working, but they both really disapprove of it.
Adrienne Watson, a spokesperson for the US National Security Council, said that the decision could make the security situation in the region and beyond unstable.
North Korea is working on making a spy satellite as part of its military plan for the next five years. Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, talked about this plan in January 2021.
The technology could help North Korea watch where US and South Korean soldiers and weapons are on the Korean Peninsula, so it can see if there are any dangers coming.
Kim Jong Un watches a rocket launch from far away.
North Korea’s space agency, called the National Aerospace Technology Administration, said they launched a rocket to make their country stronger and protect themselves from their enemies’ military actions. Pyongyang said it wants to launch more spy satellites soon.
Some experts are not sure if the satellite is good enough to work well. Jang Young-geun from Korea Research Institute for National Strategy thinks the satellite’s camera probably can’t take detailed military pictures.
However, he said that having low resolution is still better than having no information at all. This is because any attack, no matter who it is aiming for, needs some information to be successful.
Ankit Panda, who knows a lot about nuclear policies, thinks that the satellite could make North Korea’s military stronger. But it could also make the situation in the Peninsula more stable.
“He said it could make Pyongyang calmer during crises. ” The country could use its satellites to check if the US and South Korea were really not increasing their troops to get ready for a big attack.
North is happy after two tries did not work.
This year, the North tried three times to launch a spy satellite into space. The first two tries in May and August didn’t work. Officials in South Korea said they think that North Korea got help from Russia in solving the problems that caused its earlier unsuccessful attempts.
When Kim Jong Un met Vladimir Putin at the Vostochny space centre in Russia’s far east in September, the Russian leader suggested he would assist Mr Kim in making satellites. The US and South Korea think that North Korea is giving weapons to Russia to use in Ukraine. They also believe that Russia might have agreed to help North Korea with their military knowledge in exchange.
But Panda said there was no proof that Pyongyang had gotten Russia’s help and used it. “North Korea tried launching a rocket for the third time. They have been working on their own space technology for a long time,” said Mr.Jo Bee Yun, a researcher at the Korea Institute for Defence Analysis (KIDA), said that Russia didn’t have enough time to give “game-changing” technology, but they could give significant technology in the future.
Mr Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in signed a big agreement about their military in 2018. They did this to try to make their countries less tense and to stop a fight from happening.
The South Korean government recently said that the deal made it easy for them to be attacked because they couldn’t fly surveillance planes and drones near the border.
South Korea’s top leaders had a meeting very early on Wednesday, including the defense chiefs and cabinet members. Everyone agreed that the country should start watching the border again right away, and the President supports this decision.
Seoul is currently using US spy satellites to watch North Korea. But soon, they are going to launch their own satellite into space in November.
Some experts say that if the military agreement is stopped, it could make things worse and increase the chances of fights between countries.
He said that if Seoul did this, it could give them a reason to do more bad things.
But Jo Bee Yun from KIDA doesn’t think that stopping the activity would make things worse, because North Korea has been launching missiles often since 2022. “The fighting has started again. ” South Korea had to react at some point. -

Dilan Yesilgöz elected to become first female Dutch prime minister
Four groups of people are the most likely to win as the people of the Netherlands are choosing who will lead their country into a new time in politics.
The polls show that the race is very close, and people can vote until 9:00 PM (8:00 PM GMT).
Dilan Yesilgöz, a leader from the centre-right, is expected to win and become the first woman to be the prime minister of the Netherlands.
Her biggest competition are a politician named Geert Wilders who is against Islam, and a group led by a former important EU commissioner named Frans Timmermans.
More than 13 million people in the Netherlands can choose from 26 different parties to vote for on Wednesday. Up to 17 of these parties could win seats.
People in Europe are paying close attention to this election because Mark Rutte has been in charge for 13 years. The person who wins could have less than 20% of all the votes in the country and get fewer than 30 seats out of 150 in the parliament. This has never happened before in Dutch politics.
People don’t trust the government as much because of a scandal that wrongly called many parents welfare fraudsters. A politician started a new party in the middle of the political spectrum just three months ago, and now he is being seen as someone with a lot of influence.
Pieter Omtzigt’s New Social Contract will be very important in creating the next government. He doesn’t care much about leading the country, but the person who does win will need his help.“I know what I can do for the people of the Netherlands,” said Dilan Yesilgöz. She came to the Netherlands as the daughter of Turkish refugees and wants to reduce the number of immigrants coming in, as well as lower the high cost of living.
If he becomes the winner, she will make sure her conservative-liberal VVD party stays away from a Wilders government.
On Tuesday night, during the final TV debate, when he said he would be a Prime Minister for all Dutch people, she insisted that he would need to change all his policies, like banning Islam and leaving the EU, called “Nexit”, for that to happen.
Mr Wilders, a Member of Parliament for 25 years, has said he will wait on his anti-Islam plans. He also mentioned that he knows Dutch voters are not ready to leave the EU.
“We don’t have plans for Nexit, but we will have a vote to decide about it, and that’s a separate matter,” he added.Political scientist Martin Rosema thinks that the way he talks in this election is not too strong. He thinks that some political parties may be able to work with him if he becomes a part of the government.
The Freedom Party might agree to the coalition with or without ministers. Normally, the government is either mostly made up of one group or mostly made up of another. But in this situation, it could be somewhere in the middle.
Even though there are many options to choose from, a lot of voters don’t care and almost half of them still haven’t made up their minds. That number is seen in one of the poorest areas of Rotterdam, Crooswijk.
Laura said she hasn’t made a decision yet, but her choice will be one of the parties that wasn’t in the previous government. “They are all to blame for the higher prices. ”
Drago, who works at his girlfriend’s cafe, is upset because he says that the higher taxes are making life really hard. He says that migration has made the housing crisis in the Netherlands worse. There are not enough homes, with a shortage of 390,000.
Three girls at the laundry place said they might vote for the Labour-GreenLeft (PvdA/GL) team, but they are worried about immigration too.
Frans Timmermans, who leads the left-wing group, thinks he has a good chance of becoming the next leader of the government.
“This country always needs a group of people working together to run it, it’s been like this for a long time,” he told the BBC.
“The left can’t run the country alone, we always need partners in the middle of politics. ”
Last year, more than 220,000 people moved to the Netherlands, which was a big increase from the year before. This happened partly because refugees left Ukraine to escape from Russia’s invasion.
This is why Pieter Omtzigt’s centrist NSC wants to limit migration to 50,000 people. It’s also why Geert Wilders is getting more popular in the polls.

In September, the environment minister of Zimbabwe gave control of a huge amount of land – almost 20% of the country – to a foreign company that is not well known. Blue Carbon was a recently started company that was small and led by a chief who was not new to running businesses. He was a royal from Dubai with a wealthy family known for ruling the city for a long time and having a lot of money from oil.
The company Blue Carbon from Dubai has gotten a lot of land in Africa to protect forests from being cut down. This will stop a lot of CO2 from going into the air and causing global warming. The land they got is as big as the United Kingdom.
Blue Carbon can use the conservation to make carbon credits. They can sell these credits to companies and governments. This helps to balance out the pollution caused by burning fossil fuels.
Several agreements to protect forests in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, Liberia, and Tanzania were announced before the United Nations’ COP28 climate summit in December. The summit will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates.
The UAE wants to use up all its oil in 50 years, even though scientists say we should stop using fossil fuels long before that.
A person speaking for the company did not tell CNN if the company will sell the credits to the UAE. However, because the chairman of Blue Carbon is related to Dubai’s ruler, it is assumed by many experts that the credits will be sold to the UAE to help reduce its carbon footprint. They could also be sold to other countries and companies that rely on oil in the Gulf and other places. CNN asked the UAE government to comment.
Blue Carbon did not tell CNN how big its projects are, how much money it has given out, or how many credits it wants to make. The deals are still in the early stages and have not been finished yet.
The company said it will show its deals at a big meeting in Dubai as an example of how to trade carbon. The yearly climate summit is a meeting where leaders from almost 200 countries will gather to figure out how and when to reduce the use of fossil fuels. The UAE will use its COP28 presidency to work hard to make sure that carbon removal is included as a major solution to the climate crisis. This means taking carbon out of the air, not just from forests, but also from burning oil and gas, and then storing it underground.
Climate supporters don’t like carbon removal and scientists don’t think it works well. They think it lets companies keep using fossil fuels and making money.
The UAE stands to lose a lot of money. Last year, oil and gas made up about 30% of the country’s total economic output and 13% of the products it sells to other countries, as stated by the US Department of Commerce. More than 80 countries want to stop using fossil fuels, and renewable energy like wind and solar is becoming cheaper than oil and gas in many places. So, eventually, market forces will make oil and gas go away.
If fossil fuel companies and lobbyists can persuade the world at COP28 to not depend too much on wind and solar power, and to keep extracting oil and gas.The UAE is getting a lot of criticism because Sultan Al Jaber, who is in charge of the country’s oil and gas company and is their international climate envoy, is leading the negotiations. Over 100 US Congress members and European Parliament members in May asked for Al Jaber to be removed as COP28 president.
Al Jaber doesn’t think it’s a problem to have many jobs at once, he said in several interviews. ADNOC also said to CNN in an email that no one is better qualified to lead the talks. They mentioned his experience leading the nation’s renewable energy and oil and gas companies.
Al Jaber believes that companies that produce gas, oil, or coal should be involved in talks about climate change to make sure that the shift to renewable energy really happens.
Climate advocates don’t believe the argument because they think the fossil fuel industry has had enough time to take action on the issue, but hasn’t. Some companies that sell oil and gas were among the first to realize that their products were causing the Earth’s climate to change. About 40 years ago, they still made money from coal, oil, and gas.
“I believe that ADNOC is using the UN climate negotiations to make people think they care about the environment, even though they are one of the biggest oil companies in the world,” said Jamie Henn, who runs a non-profit group called Fossil Free Media that wants to stop using fossil fuels. “From the beginning, the UAE wanted to host this COP to show that they and their oil and gas industry are working to be part of the solution to climate change. ”
In 2020, the UAE produced about 0. 53% of the world’s CO2 emissions. Even though it has a small population of around 10 million people, it is the sixth-biggest polluter for every person. Even though the UAE has a small number of people, it was the seventh largest oil producer in the world in 2022.
Henn thought it was silly that the talks were being controlled by fossil fuel companies.
The international tobacco control negotiations are being controlled by Philip Morris, just like how they control things. Fortunately, the UN has rules that keep tobacco lobbyists out of the negotiations. “We need that at the COP. ” can be rewritten as “We need that at the conference of the parties. ”
The COP, which meets in a different city every year, has never had so many obvious conflicts of interest. Al Jaber is leading efforts to address climate change and reduce use of fossil fuels. Blue Carbon is closely connected to the UAE’s leaders, making it hard to tell if they support carbon offsets or want to keep producing fossil fuels.
In Dubai, at COP28, they will decide how to buy and sell carbon credits.
When CNN asked Blue Carbon if they were planning to make more deals to reduce carbon in Africa, a company spokesperson said they would announce new initiatives at COP28. A source familiar with COP28’s agenda said the company plans to use the deals to encourage using carbon credits to help with climate change. Many countries have joined to work with Blue Carbon, and this is not a big surprise. The company that owns it, Global Carbon Investments, has promised to give $1. 5 billion to Zimbabwe as an advance payment for carbon credits. This is more money than the country spends on education and childcare put together, which are Zimbabwe’s largest national expenses.
With not much money coming from rich to poor countries to deal with the climate crisis, carbon credit schemes offer a new way for countries with a lot of forests to make money.
Destroying forests or letting them decay contributes to about 12% of the Earth’s temperature increase. They are important for the environment because they can take in carbon dioxide from the air.
However, many people have criticized the idea of trading carbon credits for not cutting down forests. Some of the largest companies in the world that claim to reduce carbon emissions may be using methods that make their impact on fighting climate change seem bigger than it actually is.
In November, Renat Heuberger, the CEO of South Pole, a company that trades carbon credits, resigned because it was found that they had exaggerated the environmental benefits of their Kariba forest project in Zimbabwe.
We are happy when people spend money to save forests. “Conserving forests is not a quick fix solution,” said Julia Jones, a scientist at Bangor University in Wales.
She said that we need to stop cutting down more forests and reduce emissions a lot. “Balancing the two without big investment in cutting emissions causes problems. ”
Land ownership is also a problem. Sometimes, native people are forced to leave their land so that big companies can make money from it, even though the land used to be seen as worthless.
According to the Forest Peoples Programme, more people are being forced to leave their homes in Kenya because the government is giving land for carbon credits.
“Those who have power over Africa’s forests can make a lot of money, and it looks like big companies are trying to take over Africa’s forests,” said Justin Kenrick, a senior advisor at the Forest Peoples Programme, in an email to CNN. “At the same time, conservation efforts in Kenya continue to follow a flawed colonial strategy of removing the people who are most knowledgeable about how to protect their forests. ”
No matter what happens at COP28, ADNOC, a company in the UAE that sells oil and gas, could benefit a lot. They might win big if they can show the world that they can provide the most energy. The “Minimum Emissions” slogan is a good way to help the environment, even as the earth gets hotter and scientists urge for quick cuts in using fossil fuels.
A spokesperson from ADNOC did not say how many people would go to COP28 for the company, but said that the idea that the company would gain from the conference is wrong.
ADNOC plans to increase the amount of oil they produce by 41% and the amount of gas they produce by 33% by the year 2030. This information comes from a study done by Global Witness, a non-profit organization that focuses on protecting the environment and human rights. This means that its greenhouse gas emissions have increased by 40%, according to Global Witness.
Other oil companies like Shell and BP have different plans than ExxonMobil. Shell’s production is expected to stay the same, while BP plans to reduce their production by 25% by 2030. ADNOC wants to produce more than both companies by 2030.
ADNOC is growing to become a big global oil company. It is buying oil and gas fields in other countries like Azerbaijan and partnering with BP to buy a part of Israel’s NewMed Energy to explore for gas in the eastern Mediterranean. It is also investing in projects related to things like solar and wind energy, as well as chemicals, the company told CNN.
ADNOC can currently produce 800,000 metric tons of something each year. But it wants to make 3 more megatons each year from two new facilities that are not finished yet. Even if ADNOC builds the facilities, it will take them more than 340 years to capture all the planet-heating carbon they are expected to emit between 2023 and 2030. This includes emissions from their operations and the use of their oil and gas.
ADNOC did not mention the calculation in its response to CNN. They only said their goal is to reach zero emissions by 2045 and they have put $15 billion towards this goal.
Before this year, most people probably never heard of ADNOC. Patrick Galey from Global Witness told CNN that the company’s CEO is supposed to reduce emissions at COP28, but the more we learn about the company, the more different it seems.
“ADNOC plans to keep making lots of oil for many years, and wants to become one of the top companies for making even more oil and gas. ”
Surprisingly, COP28 could be where ADNOC becomes a big worldwide oil company. -

Spy satellite allegedly sent into orbit by North Korea
On Wednesday, North Korea said it launched its first spy satellite into space and plans to launch more to protect itself from its enemies’ military actions.
Experts said that if the spacecraft is successful, it could greatly enhance North Korea’s military power, allowing it to better aim at its enemies.
The satellite named “Malligyong-1” was sent into space on a new rocket called “Chollima-1” on Tuesday, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
North Korea says it has the right to launch a spy satellite to protect itself.
South Korea, the United States, and Japan are having more military problems with North Korea. They don’t know if the satellite went into space.
South Korea said the launch broke a UN rule that stops North Korea from using ballistic missiles.
On Wednesday morning, the South Korean government stopped part of a deal it had with North Korea. This deal limited South Korea’s spying and watching activities along the demilitarized zone (DMZ) that divides the two countries.
The rocket took the satellite south and is thought to have gone over Japan’s Okinawa area.
The Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, spoke out against the missile launch. He called it a serious problem that puts the safety of people in Japan at risk. He also said that Japan will keep working with the US and South Korea to deal with North Korea’s missile launches.
Seoul’s military said on Wednesday that they had been watching and working closely with the US to track the preparations for the launch.
Aegis destroyers from South Korea, the US, and Japan were sent to monitor the launch. They are now studying all the details about it.
Pyongyang tried to send a satellite into space in May, but the rocket had a problem and the satellite crashed into the sea.
KCNA stated that the new engine system was not reliable or stable and the fuel used was also not stable, which led to the mission failing.
In August, a second try failed because there was a problem with the emergency blasting system during the third stage of the flight, according to a report from KCNA.
The rocket broke into many pieces and fell into the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea, and the Pacific Ocean, as told by Japanese officials.
Tuesday night, North Korea tried to launch a missile for the third time. This was expected and North Korea has said they will try again.
North Korea’s space agency wants to launch more spy satellites to keep an eye on South Korea. They plan to do this quickly.Pyongyang said having a satellite was a way to protect itself from the US, South Korea, and Japan.
This week, North Korea criticized the US for possibly selling advanced missiles to Japan and military equipment to South Korea. They called it a “dangerous act” in a report from KCNA.
North Korea said it was clear who the weapons were intended for and would be used against.
Experts said that having just one satellite in space makes North Korea’s military position stronger.
“If it is successful, it will make the North Korean military better at commanding and controlling, as well as improving their ability to gather information and monitor things. ”
Panda said that they will use what they learned from Tuesday’s launch to help make better satellites in the future.
“They will use what they learn from this successful launch for more launches in the future. ” They want to have a strong and extra backup group of satellites that observe Earth. This will make a big difference for North Korea’s overall strategic awareness abilities, he said.
But some people warned that we still don’t know how good the thing Pyongyang launched on Tuesday really is. Some people thought the North would suffer more if the South started gathering information near the border again, than it would benefit from the satellite launch.
Leif-Eric Easley, a professor at Ewha University in Seoul, said that the surveillance drones in Seoul might gather better information than North Korea’s basic satellite program along the DMZ.
South Korea’s defense minister Shin Won-sik said last Sunday that North Korea is close to fixing its rocket engine problems with help from Russia.
After North Korean leader Kim Jong Un went to Russia in September, he visited the Russian space rocket launch site with President Vladimir Putin.
In the meeting, Putin showed that he is ready to help North Korea with its space and satellite program.
But Panda warned against assuming that help and advice from Russia had made the third launch successful.
“I don’t think it’s likely that North Korea has gotten help from Russia and used it yet because of the timeline,” he said.
“Also remember that the North Koreans are very capable now. ” -

Israel and Hamas agree on release of hostages and a four-day ceasefire
Israel and Hamas have agreed to stop fighting for four days and release at least 50 hostages, including women and children, held in Gaza. Qatar, who helped with the negotiations, announced this on Wednesday.
The agreement, which depended on Israel’s cabinet agreeing, comes after several weeks of discussions with the United States and Egypt. This is a big step to reduce tensions after almost seven weeks of fighting between Israel and Hamas.
Qatar said that the hostages will be set free if Israeli jails release some Palestinian women and children.
The break will also let more humanitarian trucks and supplies, like fuel for helping people, to come in.
Israel’s leaders agreed to the deal very early on Wednesday morning after a long and intense meeting that lasted about six hours.
Hamas has 239 people captive in Gaza, and they come from 26 different countries, according to the Israeli military.
Only a few Israeli hostages were released before the agreement. On October 20, two Americans named Judith Tai Raanan and her 17-year-old daughter Natalie Raanan were let go because of their health conditions. This happened after talks between Qatar and Hamas.
Shortly after, two women from Israel, named Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, were also set free.
Qatar’s main negotiator, Minister of State Mohammed Al-Khulaifi, said that the agreement should make the world work together quickly to keep making progress in peace talks.Hamas said in a statement that 150 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails would be released as part of the deal, but later took back the statement without giving a reason.
Israel said the truce could last longer than planned if more hostages are released. For every 10 more hostages freed, an extra day of truce would be added.
However, it also showed that Israel intends to start their air and ground attacks again to fully get rid of Hamas once the hostage releases are finished.
The Israeli army is still figuring out when they will stop fighting. Colonel Jonathan Conricus spoke to CNN on Wednesday morning.
“We will keep fighting Hamas until the Israeli government tells us to stop. When they do, we will follow their instructions. ”
The Israeli government made the deal because the families of the hostages pressured them to take action. They wanted answers from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
A lot of hostages were taken by force when Hamas attacked border communities near the Gaza Strip and the Nova music festival.
Israel stopped things from coming into Gaza and attacked it. This caused a big problem for the people there.
Over 12,000 people have died in Gaza since October 7, according to the government’s press office.
Family members of the hostages held by Hamas were relieved and hopeful as they waited to see if their loved ones would be released. They were not sure yet when it would happen.
Shoshany said, “I really hope to see someone come out of there alive. ” We want to see our family again. This is all we want and I really hope this is just the beginning in this situation.
Liz Hirsh Naftali, who is Abigail Edan’s great-aunt, said on CNN that it has been really hard having Abigail, a 3-year-old US citizen, held by Hamas.
“We’ve been worrying, wondering, praying, and hoping for the past seven weeks,” she said. The family wants Abigail, the youngest American kidnapped by Hamas, to come home by Friday for her fourth birthday.
“We have to see Abigail come out before we can believe it,” Naftali said.
US President Joe Biden was happy about the agreement and said it will bring back more American hostages. He promised to keep working until all hostages are released.
Ten Americans are still missing. Among them are two women and a 3-year-old girl. This was confirmed by a senior official in the government. The person in charge did not say the girl’s name.
The agreement says at least 50 hostages will be freed, but it also encourages the release of everyone, the official said.
The agreement for the hostages includes a break, a pause to help people, for four or five days. “And if more hostages are released by Hamas, there is a possibility that the extension could be prolonged,” the official said.
A US official also said that the hostages will be brought out from different places, but they didn’t give any more information.
The IDF spokesperson, Conricus, said that the people who will be let go in the agreement are all Israelis. Some of them also have citizenship in another country. He said that the Palestinian prisoners who are going to be freed are not very bad criminals.
Approximately 8,300 Palestinian people are in Israeli jails, according to Qadura Fares, who leads a group that helps prisoners.
Out of 8,300 people, over 3,000 are being kept in detention in Israel without being told the reasons or having a legal process. -

Lame duck Akufo-Addo and limping Majority Leader must behave well – Alban Bagbin warns
In a candid address to the Parliament earlier today, Speaker Alban Sumana Bagbin urged Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to foster collaboration with the Minority side to avoid potential legislative stalemates. The Speaker’s comments were prompted by concerns over the Majority Leader’s purported challenges in ensuring the presence of his party members during the ongoing 2024 budget debate.
Speaker Bagbin pointed out that the observed shortcomings in the Majority Leader’s role were indicative of a precarious situation, emphasizing the need for building bridges and seeking consensus between the majority and minority to prevent disruptions in government business.
Highlighting the shifting political landscape within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) post-presidential primaries, Speaker Bagbin noted a transition of loyalties from the incumbent President Akufo-Addo to the party’s flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This shift in allegiance was identified as a contributing factor to MPs appearing to neglect their responsibilities to the current administration.
Describing the current administration as a “lame duck” due to the loyalty shift and the emergence of a flagbearer, Speaker Bagbin emphasized the importance of the Majority side collaborating with the opposition to navigate the challenges ahead.
Addressing the Majority, Speaker Bagbin stated, “You need this side of the house to support you to finish your eight years. And so if you don’t behave well, we have a difficulty in proceeding as a nation.”
He reassured members of the NPP that, despite their lower numbers, he would not allow the NDC MPs to exert undue influence or intimidate them in the Parliament, underscoring the importance of fair and constructive collaboration in the legislative process.

How are the infants taken out of Al-Shifa hospital doing?
The World Health Organization (WHO) has provided new information about the babies who were moved from Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital during the weekend.
Israeli soldiers entered the hospital where 33 premature babies were being taken care of.
WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier told reporters in Geneva that two babies died before they were moved to safety on Sunday.
He says it was because they didn’t have enough care.
The WHO said that the babies were all very sick and still need medical care.
31 people were moved from Al-Shifa hospital, and 28 of them were then brought to Egypt. Unicef said that 20 of these children were alone and had no one to take care of them.
James Elder, a person speaking for the group, said that many parents couldn’t go to Egypt with their kids, and some kids didn’t have any parents. -

Israel investigating reports on murder of journalists in Lebanon
Earlier today, a news outlet from Lebanon said that two of its reporters were killed by a bombing from Israel.
The IDF said its soldiers were in the area of al-Jabin to stop an attack from Hezbollah.
The Israeli army says they know about a report that says journalists were killed by Israeli soldiers.
“This is a place where fighting is happening, and they are shooting at each other. ” Being in this area is not safe. The situation is being looked at. -

Black Stars line up against Comoros today; Dede Ayew returns
In a significant lineup change, Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew is set to make his return as Chris Hughton reveals the squad to face Comoros in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. This adjustment comes as Ayew steps in to replace Kudus Mohammed, who was sidelined on Monday due to a back injury.
The Le Harve forward is one of three changes made by the coach, following their victorious encounter against Madagascar last Friday in Kumasi. Kasim Nuhu Adams is set to replace the injured Daniel Amartey, while Denis Odoi will take the place of Alidu Seidu in the lineup.
Goalkeeper Richard Ofori retains his position, guarding the net behind a solid back four consisting of Nuhu and Nicholas Opoku as the central pair, with Odoi as the right-back and Gideon Mensah on the left.
In Hughton’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system, Salis Samed and Baba Iddrisu will form the double pivot. The attacking flanks will see Inaki Williams and Jordan Ayew, with Antoine Semenyo leading the line and Dede Ayew in a playmaking role behind him.
The much-anticipated match is scheduled to kick off at 16:00 GMT at the Stade de Moroni, where the Black Stars aim to secure a crucial victory in their quest for qualification in the World Cup. Ghanaian football enthusiasts will be closely watching as the team strives for success under the leadership of the seasoned captain, Andre Dede Ayew.

Biden affirms hostage agreement may be imminent
The US president, Joe Biden talked about a potential hostage deal at a Thanksgiving ceremony a few hours ago.
Answering reporters at the ceremony when he was asked if a deal was close, Biden said “I think so” while crossing his fingers.
This came after a White House national security official named Jon Finer said on Sunday that people trying to make a deal were “closer than we have been perhaps at any point since these negotiations began weeks ago”.
Qatar’s Prime Minister said over the weekend that they are close to bringing back the hostages. -

Good Signs but no deal has been announced yet – Hamas official
Qatar and Washington both like the idea of a peace deal.
The Hamas leader, who lives in Qatar, said this after meeting with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Doha.
The ICRC assisted in bringing the four hostages to safety after they were released last month.
A Hamas leader told Al Jazeera that they are talking about an agreement that would free Israeli women and children held by Palestinians, and Palestinian women and children held by Israel.
More help would also be permitted to enter Gaza.
It is expected that the fighting will stop for a little while so that hostages can leave and get help.
Israel has not answered yet.
But let’s be clear, no agreement has been made and previous efforts have not been successful even though there was reportedly some progress.
Israeli diplomats said this weekend that they want a lot of hostages to be let go.
Some families of the kidnapped people were mad after meeting with the Israeli war Cabinet in Tel Aviv last night. They said that finding their loved ones should be more important than trying to destroy Hamas.
Prime Minister Netanyahu says if we weaken the enemy, we have a better chance of bringing the hostages home. -

Unicef ready to help in case of ‘humanitarian ceasefire’
Toby Fricker from Unicef says they would like it if Hamas and Israel would agree to stop fighting, so hostages can be set free.
Even though we don’t know all the details yet, a Hamas official told Al Jazeera that they have been talking about how long the agreement would last, bringing aid into Gaza, and trading prisoners and hostages.
Fricker, speaking from Amman, Jordan, told the BBC that if there is a ceasefire for helping people in Gaza, supplies should be brought in quickly to shelters and to people in need all over the area.
Fricker said the help would be very important for saving lives and stopping another disaster with diseases spreading in the winter. -

Truce approaching though Israel has not yet commented – Leader of Hamas
The head of Hamas says the group is almost done making a “peace agreement” with Israel, making people hopeful that fighting in Gaza will stop and that hostages could be released.
Israel has not said anything. PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that his country will keep fighting until the hostages are brought home.
Hamas might give back hostages if Israel lets Palestinians out of jail, AFP and Al Jazeera say.US President Joe Biden said he thinks an agreement is almost ready. The White House said fighting would stop temporarily to allow hostages to be safely released.
The Red Cross has been meeting with Hamas leaders in Qatar, which is making people hopeful for future deals.
Meanwhile, there is still fighting in Gaza. The Israeli military has surrounded the city of Jabalia in the north. The health ministry in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, said that 13,300 people, including over 5,000 children, have died in Israel’s recent military action.
Israel started fighting against the Gaza Strip, which is run by Hamas, because Hamas fighters went over the border on 7 October. They killed 1,200 people and took over 200 people as hostages.

Robbie Williams fan passes away following a fall during Sydney concert
A 70-year-old woman died in the hospital after falling at a Robbie Williams concert in Sydney last Thursday.
During the show at Allianz Stadium, she tumbled down six rows of seats and hurt her head really bad.
The woman was taken to a hospital close by and put into a deep sleep on purpose. Doctors confirmed on Tuesday that she had passed away.
The singer from Britain has not said anything about what happened on the first night of his Australian XXV tour.
The accident happened after the show was over, while many people were leaving the stadium, according to a spokesman.
The woman didn’t use the stairs, she tried to walk over the seats instead. She slipped and fell, the spokesman said in the report by the Sydney Morning Herald.
“This is a very sad event and we are thinking of the customer and their family at this time. ”
Around 40,000 people went to the show on 16 November. The popular British singer is the focus of a new documentary on Netflix. They will be performing in Melbourne next Wednesday.
A 23-year-old fan passed away at a Taylor Swift concert in Rio de Janeiro last Friday after fainting from the heat. The British singer has not said anything about the incident that happened on the first night of his Australian XXV tour.
Swift honored the fan and said she was very upset and heartbroken by the fan’s death. She posted on Instagram: “She was really beautiful and too young”. -

North Korea claims to be launching spy satellite soon
North Korea might try to launch a third spy satellite on Wednesday night, according to Japanese media.
Tokyo said that Pyongyang told them about a nine-day time period for the launch. It ends at 11:59 PM local time on November 30th.
Japan and South Korea will work together to strongly ask North Korea not to go ahead with the launch, as it would be against UN rules.
Pyongyang tried two times this year to launch a spy satellite into space, but it didn’t work either time.
The Japan Coast Guard said that North Korea notified them about three areas in the sea where they think debris from the rocket that was carrying the satellite might fall.
Two are on the left side of the Korean Peninsula and the other is on the right side of the Philippines’ island of Luzon.
Kang Ho-pil, leader of the South Korean military, said they will take action if the launch happens.
Kim Jong Un really wants a spy satellite because it will help him see if any attacks are coming and plan his own attacks better.
The United Nations Security Council has said that North Korea cannot launch satellites because they think it is a way for them to test their missiles.
South Korea found pieces from North Korea’s first rocket launch in May and said the satellite was not useful for military purposes.
Russian leader Putin said in September that he could help North Korea make satellites after meeting with Mr. But it’s not clear what exactly was promised.
This month, South Korea said they will send a spy satellite into space by the end of November. A rocket from a company called SpaceX in the US will carry the satellite.
Seoul plans to launch five spy satellites into space by 2025, and this is said to be the first one. -

Brazil registers its highest temperature ever
Brazil experienced its highest ever temperature of 44. 8C (1126F) during a very hot heatwave.
On Sunday, in a town called Araçuaí, a new record was made in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil.
The unusual weather is caused by El Niño and changes in the climate.
Predictors say that the weather will probably not be as hot this week.
According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), CNN Brasil reported that only three capital cities will have temperatures close to 40 degrees Celsius.
The government agency reported that the temperature in Araçuaí reached 44. 8C, which is higher than the country’s previous record of 44. 7C in 2005
The weather is very hot and there are warnings for people to be careful, even though it’s still a month before summer starts in the southern part of the world. Energy use in Brazil has gone up a lot because people are using more electricity to stay cool.
The hot weather caused Taylor Swift to cancel a concert in Rio de Janeiro because a fan got sick and died before the show on Friday.
According to the people in charge, Ana Clara Benevides Machado, who is 23 years old, asked for help at the stadium because she was not feeling well. She was moved to the hospital but passed away an hour later.
A recent study found that the temperature in the country was higher than usual from July to October.
Crazy weather is happening a lot more and getting stronger in many places because of climate change.
Scientists say that heatwaves are getting longer and stronger in many places because people keep releasing gases that warm the planet. They think this will keep happening in the future.
Right now, the Earth is experiencing El Niño, which usually makes the global temperatures rise. -

Vale makes effort to strengthen its ties with France
People are working on a plan to renew the connection between the Guensey Parish of the Vale and a town in France. They believe that this will be good for the island.
Twinning is when two places like towns or villages become friends and share their cultures and social activities.
The Vale Douzaine is working to reconnect with Barneville Carteret, a town in the northwest of France.
The parish and the town became twinned in 1989. But now, because the people who were in charge of keeping the twinning going are no longer around, the two places aren’t as friendly anymore.
‘Good things for neighborhoods’
Guernsey, the Vale, and Barneville Carteret are connected mainly by boats and the people who work in the marine industry.
“The marina at Carteret is very busy and I’ve been there many times. We always feel welcome from the yacht club and the people in charge, both as a group and as individuals. ”
“I think it would be good for both communities to exchange their cultures. ”
St Saviour’s Parish and Monteburg have been connected since the 1980s when farmers in France got in touch with farmers in Guernsey.
St Saviour’s Parish has been paired with Montebourg, a town in Normandy, since 1993. They visit each other every year and have a strong connection.
People from St Saviour go to La Foire de la Chandeleur for a fair and market with cattle, and people from Montebourg go to the West Show.
Stuart Crisp, who leads the St Saviour’s Multiple Twinning Association, said: “For us, a twinning charter encourages people from both communities to visit each other and helps to boost tourism, social interaction, and the economy. ”
He said, “This year was very special for us because it was our 30th year of twinning. ”
“It’s great to confirm the friendship between Montebourg and St. ”
“Twinning is important for both places and it’s a chance to speak French and share our cultures. “ -

Israeli hostage families becoming increasingly irate as they seek answers from Netanyahu
In Israel, families of hostages are upset and want the government to give them information about their loved ones and make a deal for their release.
I want them to promise that everyone will come back home. All the people who were kept against their will. “We need written promises and answers,” said Shai Wenkert, whose son Omer is being held captive by Hamas in Gaza.
Wenkert talked to the news on Monday, before he and other family members met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his war team in Tel Aviv.
Only a few families have met with Netanyahu. This has made many other relatives of hostages angry because they feel the government isn’t doing enough to help free them.
However, for some people, the meeting made them even more frustrated. Udi Goren left the meeting early because he felt there was no new information about his cousin who was taken captive. He wanted to know more about a possible deal to release the hostages, but the war cabinet didn’t provide any details.
About 239 people are being held captive in Gaza after they were taken during an attack by Hamas on Israel. This attack was the biggest one on Israel since it was formed in 1948 and it resulted in the death of about 1,200 people.
On October 20, two Americans named Judith Tai Raanan and her 17-year-old daughter Natalie Raanan were released because of serious reasons after Qatar and Hamas talked and made a deal.two Israeli women, Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, were also released
Lifshitz said it was a really terrible experience. She was taken from her home, put on a motorbike and driven to a network of tunnels.
Israel declared a war on Hamas and stopped goods from getting into Gaza after the October 7 attacks. This caused a very bad situation for the people living in Gaza. Approximately 12,700 Palestinians have passed away since the war started, as reported by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the West Bank, which gets its information from health authorities in the Gaza Strip run by Hamas.
Many people in Israel still strongly support the war against Hamas, but more and more people are criticizing Netanyahu and his government. They think they should have known about the October 7 attack and done more to free the hostages.
Ben-Gvir is a politician in Israel who wants to make the country bigger by taking over land that belongs to Palestinians. He also wants to make a new law that would give the death penalty to people who commit terrorist acts.
However, a lot of families with hostages believe that Ben-Gvir is putting their loved ones in more danger. They think that Hamas may not want to release the hostages if they think Israel will kill Palestinian prisoners.
During the meeting in the parliament, people showed pictures of their family and spoke out their anger and disappointment. “Bring our loved ones back. ” shouted Gil Dickmann, whose cousin is trapped in Gaza.
Don’t talk about hurting Arabs. “This is what you need to do. ” yelled Hen Avigdori, whose wife and daughter were taken on October 7th.
Almog Cohen, who works with Ben-Gvir in the Jewish Power party, responded to family members. “You are not the only one who feels pain. ” “We also put more than 50 friends in the ground,” Cohen said.
Ben-Gvir is working to make a new law and it is being reviewed by the government. It still needs to go through a few more steps before it can become a law and there’s still a possibility that it could be taken back.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said on Telegram that his group is almost at a peace deal with Israel. The United States, Israel, and Qatar have been helping with the negotiations.
The message came after Hamas had given an answer to the mediators in Qatar. “Haniyeh said that the group gave their answer to the brothers in Qatar and the mediators, and they are close to agreeing to a truce. ”
Haniyeh didn’t give more information about the possible agreement.
There is still no agreement, and many issues still need to be solved. However, the people involved in the negotiations are feeling hopeful.
Netanyahu has said two things he wants to achieve in the war – to free all the hostages and to defeat Hamas. Israel has said no to requests from other countries to stop fighting until their hostages are returned. -

Almost 200 mobsters imprisoned now largest mafia cases in Italy
An Italian court has decided that over 200 people from a crime group will go to prison for a total of 2,200 years. This comes after the biggest mafia trial in Italy in 30 years.
The trial started in January 2021 in a special building in a town in southern Italy. Over 400 lawyers helped the people accused of a crime, and about 900 witnesses gave information in the trial.
Three judges decided the fate of 338 accused people on Monday, after thinking about it since the trial ended on October 16. According to the Italian news outlet Ansa, the court took one hour and 40 minutes to announce its decisions.
207 criminals went to jail and more than 100 were set free. The person was given five life sentences and three sentences that last 30 years each.
42 women were tried for mafia crimes, which was a record. 39 of them were found guilty.
Lots of people who are accused had funny names like “The Wolf,” “Fatso,” “Sweetie,” and “Lamb Thigh. ” These names were heard on about 24,000 recorded phone calls, as said in the trial.
The people found guilty are a former member of Forza Italia named Giancarlo Pittelli, former police chief Giorgio Naselli, former financial police officer Michele Marinaro, former mayor Gianluca Callipo, and former regional councilors Luigi Incarnato and Pietro Giamborino. CNN saw the document that shows this information.
The gangsters were connected to an Italian crime group called ‘Nrangheta and were found guilty of working with the mafia, forcing people to give them money, offering bribes, and committing five murders.
The trial was called the Rinascita Scott, named after a United States special agent named Scott W. Sieben found connections between Colombia’s drug cartels and the ‘Ndrangheta.
The ‘Ndrangheta is a very powerful mafia group from Italy. It is based in Calabria, in the south of the country. The Italian DIA says it has thousands of members and affiliates all over the world.
The three judges had been living with police looking after them for almost three years during the trial. -

China demands ‘urgent’ action on Gaza as countries with majority of Muslims arrive in Beijing
The top diplomat from China says that the world needs to act quickly to stop the fighting in Gaza. China is trying to help establish a truce between Israel and Hamas.
The Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi invited officials from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, the Palestinian National Authority, and Indonesia, along with the head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to visit China’s capital for two days. This is the beginning of their planned trips to other world capitals.
The ministers said that the war needs to stop right away and relief supplies need to be sent in quickly.
The countries in the group wanted to work together with China and other responsible countries who understand how serious the situation is.
Israel started attacking Gaza and sending troops there after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. Israel’s army said more than 200 people were taken captive in the attack.
The meeting in Beijing is happening because CNN has been told that there might be an agreement to free some hostages held by Hamas and to stop fighting for a few days. The United States, Israel, and Hamas have been talking for weeks, with help from Qatar.
Beijing and Washington disagree on how to handle the conflict, including the timing of a ceasefire. Washington does not support an immediate ceasefire, which has caused tension between the two countries. Beijing did not support Israel’s response to the attack and did not speak out against Hamas, causing anger from Israeli leaders.“Israel needs to stop punishing everyone in Gaza and let aid get through to prevent a big humanitarian crisis. Wang said this during talks with the delegation, as reported by China’s Foreign Ministry. ”
Israel strongly says that it is fighting against terrorism after a terrible attack. It refuses to stop fighting unless the hostages are returned.
China wants to help solve the conflict because it wants to become a big global power.
Last month, Beijing sent a peace representative to visit many countries in the area. China has been speaking up for a quick end to fighting at the United Nations, including the Security Council, where China is currently in charge.
The UN group made a decision about the fighting last week. They want all the people held by Hamas to be let go, and they want safe ways for civilians to get help in the area. The US and the United Kingdom didn’t vote, because they didn’t agree with the resolution for not condemning Hamas.
Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jun said that because of a certain member’s repeated blockages, this resolution is just a first step for now, based on the smallest amount of agreement. It seemed like he was indirectly criticizing the US.
On Monday in Beijing, the Saudi Arabia’s minister praised the Security Council’s decision, which was led by China.
The conflict has helped China make its relationships with Arab countries stronger. China wants to separate the US from the countries it has been friends with for a long time in the Arab world.
“We have always stood up for Arab and Muslim countries, and we have always supported the Palestinian people in getting back their rights,” Wang told the group visiting.
Last month, China’s special envoy for the Middle East, Zhai Jun, visited Egypt, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Jordan to talk about stopping fighting and having peace for a longer time.
Last week, the representative traveled to Turkey and Bahrain to meet with government officials. They also talked about the “regional situation” with people from Singapore, the US, and Europe at an international conference.
Wang talked to Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen on the phone last month. It’s not known if China has spoken to Hamas officials during the recent fighting.
This week, the Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki from the West Bank-based Palestinian National Authority is visiting officials in Beijing.
Earlier this month, China sent a top official from its Foreign Ministry to Iran to talk about the conflict. This information was shared on the department’s social media account.
Iran has been supporting Hamas and Hezbollah for a long time.
Last week, Chinese leader Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden talked for a long time in California. Biden asked Xi to use China’s influence with Iran to prevent a bigger conflict in the region, according to a top US official.
Biden told Xi that he sees Hamas as different from the Palestinian people. The US thinks that Hamas is a terrorist group that has caused a lot of harm to the Palestinian people. They also support Israel’s right to fight back against Hamas.
Beijing is talking about the fighting between Palestinians and Israelis, but they’re not mentioning Hamas specifically.
State Department spokesperson Matt Miller said the US would be happy if China helps in a good way in the Middle East.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken has personally made it clear in his conversations with China’s Wang, according to Miller. -

Identity crisis hits #TheNewForce as actual face behind viral campaign remains hidden but furious
The vibrant political movement #TheNewForce has found itself embroiled in a controversy as allegations of fraudulent claims regarding the iconic “The Man in the Mask” campaign have surfaced. The movement, known for its innovative and grassroots approach, now faces a challenge from Sam Ankrah, who has purportedly asserted himself as the mastermind behind the campaign.
A recent statement issued by #TheNewForce categorically denies any association between Sam Ankrah and the creative conception, design, and inventive process that birthed “The Man in the Mask.” The statement expresses disappointment over what the movement describes as an attempt by Ankrah to exploit the creative ingenuity of young Ghanaians for personal political gain.
The dispute escalated when #TheNewForce, following legal counsel, announced their intention to file a complaint with the Electoral Commission. They claim that Ankrah’s actions violate Section 6 of the Political Parties Act 2000 (Act 526), an offense that carries the potential for a term of imprisonment not exceeding two years.
Furthermore, #TheNewForce has indicated their readiness to pursue civil action against Ankrah for infringement of intellectual property rights. They assert ownership over the original artistic and creative works, including graphics, images, and text associated with the campaign, as well as symbols, logos, and distinctive visual elements.
The movement demands that Ankrah immediately cease and desist from any further use, reproduction, distribution, or modification of their intellectual property. In addition, they have requested the removal of the contested images from all of Ankrah’s platforms and a public apology for the alleged infringement.
The city is now watching closely as this unfolding drama unfolds, questioning the authenticity of Sam Ankrah’s claims and pondering the potential impact on #TheNewForce’s vision for a new political era. The fate of “The Man in the Mask” campaign hangs in the balance, and citizens eagerly await further developments in this unexpected political and creative clash.

Israel imposes lockdown on West Bank region after attack by Hamas
About 750 families in Hebron, a place in the West Bank, have been stuck at home since the Hamas attack on Israel six weeks ago.
They live in the most tense area of H2, a place in Hebron where 39,000 Palestinians and about 900 Israeli settlers live. The Israeli settlers are known to be very extreme compared to others in the West Bank.
Although most of the people in H2 are Palestinians, the Israeli military has complete control over it.
Muhammad Mohtaseb, a 30-year-old security guard at the hospital, sat on his roof smoking a cigarette and looking at the empty streets. He said, “This feels like a closed space within a closed space. ” “We are surrounded by many checkpoints everywhere. ”
For the last six weeks, people in Palestine have had a hard time getting enough food and water. The schools are not open, so kids are staying at their houses. Many people can’t get to work and are running out of money.
“In these jobs, if you work, you get to have meals,” said Fawaz Qafisha, a cook who makes falafel. “If you don’t work, you don’t get to eat. “ -

South Africa requests ICC issue warrant for Netanyahu’s arrest
The government of South Africa wants the International Crime Court (ICC) to arrest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by mid-December.
Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said that if the ICC didn’t do this, it would show that global governance has completely failed.
She said that the world cannot just watch and do nothing.
Israel says it is protecting itself after the 7 October attack by Hamas, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and over 200 people being held captive.
It says they are trying to reduce harm to the people who are not in the military, but Ms Ntshavheni said the Israeli government was trying to move most of the people out of Gaza and take control of it.
South Africa, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Comoros, and Djibouti asked the ICC to look into if war crimes and crimes against humanity happened in Gaza.
South Africa has always been a strong supporter of the Palestinian cause. -

Leader of opposition party in Chad calls for reconciliation
Opposition leader Succès Masra from Chad met with Transitional President Mahamat Deby to help bring peace and unity to the country.
They had a meeting on Monday at the president’s office with a representative of the Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi. He helped both sides reach an agreement last month in Kinshasa.
Mr Masra told the BBC that the first meeting is just the beginning. There will be more meetings to make sure we follow the agreement. He also said that they will come up with more ideas to make the transition smooth and fair for everyone, and to have elections where people can share their plans for society.
He met with the military leader the day after telling his supporters to make peace with the government and not to seek revenge for the violent protests in October 2022.
“We want to make Chad a better place for everyone. To do that, we need to understand the difference between fairness and retaliation,” said Mr. Masra in an interview with the BBC.
The leader of the Transformers party said he wants Chad to be modern and democratic for the country’s future to be secure.
Mr Masra is trying to calm things down before a vote on December 17th. Chadians will decide on the country’s new constitution. The referendum will help to have elections and bring the country back to civilian rule instead of being ruled by the military.
However, some people who disagree with the government want to not participate in the referendum. They are also upset with the government for offering forgiveness to those who were involved in the violence on October 20th last year, which resulted in about 50 people getting killed, according to the government. -

Shakira pays €7.5 million fine to resolve tax fraud case in Spain
Colombian singer Shakira agreed to a deal with Spanish prosecutors to resolve a tax fraud case before her trial started.
The singer had to pay a fine of €7. 5 million (equivalent to £6. 5 million) instead of going to jail for eight years. Prosecutors had wanted to jail her and fine her €23. 8 million (equivalent to £20. 8 million) if she was found guilty.
She was accused of cheating on her taxes for €14. 5m (£127m) in a court in Barcelona.
Shakira said she settled because she wanted to do what is best for her kids. She has said she didn’t do anything wrong.
She said her kids do not want to see her suffer while fighting this.
The performer said no to a deal from the lawyers and decided to go to trial.
She said that in her career, she always tried to do the right thing and be a good role model for others.
“Sadly, even though I tried my best, the tax authorities in Spain are accusing me, like they have with many other famous athletes and people. This has taken away their energy, time, and peace for many years. ”
“I was ready to prove I didn’t do anything wrong in court, and my lawyers were sure I would win. But I’ve decided to settle the case for the sake of my kids. They don’t want to see me struggle and sacrifice my happiness. ”
During 2012 to 2014, Shakira was accused of living in Spain but claiming to live somewhere else.In July, lawyers said that she bought a house in Barcelona in 2012. She lived there with her then-boyfriend, a Barcelona football player.
Her lawyers said that before 2014, she made most of her money from concerts in other countries and she was often away from Spain for a long time.
“The Spanish tax authorities got excited when they found out I was dating a Spanish citizen. ” “It’s obvious that they were determined to get that money no matter what,” she told Elle magazine.
In 2015, Shakira said she lived in Spain for taxes. She said she paid €17. 2m (£15m) in tax and doesn’t owe any money.
In 2019, Mr. Piqué was fined €2. 1 million (or £1. 8 million) by a court in Spain for not paying taxes between 2008 and 2010.

NDC secretary in coma after ‘party boys’ beat him like a thief
In a disturbing turn of events, Daniel Nii Sackey Aidoo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary for Domeabra-Obom Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, was brutally attacked by alleged supporters of parliamentary aspirant Isaac Awuku Yibor during a constituency meeting.
The incident unfolded during a meeting convened to elect key positions, including the Election Director, IT Director, and deputy for the constituency, as mandated by a directive from the national headquarters. According to Moses Kabu Kubi Ocansey, the Constituency Chairman, tensions arose when supporters of Isaac Awuku Yibor objected to a particular candidate and threatened to prevent him from voting. The Chairman, however, disagreed with their stance.
To address the dispute, Chairman Kubi instructed Nii Aidoo to retrieve the letter from his car, which contained instructions from the national headquarters. In a shocking turn of events, supporters of Mr. Yibor ambushed Nii Aidoo, subjecting him to a severe beating.
Chairman Kubi revealed that the Secretary lost consciousness during the assault and was promptly rushed to the hospital for medical attention. The Treasurer, Deborah Ntowry Nkansah, has urgently called on NDC Greater Accra Regional and National executives to intervene, emphasizing that failure to restore peace and order in the constituency could jeopardize the party’s standing in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Despite multiple attempts to reach Isaac Awuku Yibor for comments on the alleged involvement of his supporters, all efforts have thus far proven futile. The incident underscores the need for swift intervention and resolution within the NDC to prevent further escalation and maintain party unity in Domeabra-Obom.

Gaza-Israel conflict shouldn’t split us apart in South Africa – Ramaphosa
President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Monday that South Africans should not let the Israel-Gaza conflict cause more disagreements.
Last week, there was a protest in Cape Town where people supporting Israel and Palestine argued with each other.
The president talked about the incident in his weekly letter and said it was concerning and not okay.
President Ramaphosa and the ANC support the Palestinians.
He said “It’s not the same thing to support the Palestinian cause as it is to be against Jewish people”.
Mr Ramaphosa criticized an Israeli newspaper for saying that his government’s support for the Palestinians could lead to violence against the South African Jewish community.
The letter asked South Africans to stay united as this conflict continues.
Last week, South Africa told the International Criminal Court (ICC) about what Israel’s government did during the fighting in Gaza. -
