Hugh Jackman to spilt from wife after close to 3 decades of marriage

Actor Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, have announced their separation after 27 years of marriage, as reported by US media.

According to the celebrity magazine People, the Australian couple expressed their gratitude for sharing nearly three decades together and explained that their journey was now evolving in a way that led them to separate in pursuit of their individual growth.

Jackman and Furness initially crossed paths on the set of the TV show Correlli in 1995.

At the time, Furness was an established actress, while Jackman had recently graduated from drama school. They exchanged wedding vows in April 1996 and subsequently adopted two children, now aged 23 and 18.

In their statement to People, the couple emphasized that their family remained their top priority.

They expressed their appreciation for the understanding and privacy of their fans and admirers as their family navigated this significant transition.

Jackman, renowned for his portrayal of Wolverine in the X-Men franchise and his roles in The Greatest Showman and Les Misérables, had frequently shared his love for Furness on social media.

On their 27th wedding anniversary in April, he expressed his deep affection for her and their enduring bond.

The couple celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in 2021, with Jackman describing their marriage as “natural as breathing.” They were last seen together in July at the Wimbledon tennis championships in London, where they watched Carlos Alcaraz compete against Novak Djokovic.

In April, Jackman informed his fans via social media that he had received a clean bill of health after undergoing tests for skin cancer.

This followed his first skin cancer removal in 2013 and several subsequent procedures to address the issue.

Our robust IT system outperforms NPP’s capabilities for 2024 – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that its abundant human resources and technical prowess to implement a robust IT system aimed at improving its prospects of winning the 2024 general elections.

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the newly-appointed Director of Elections in charge of IT for the party, affirms that the NDC is well-prepared for electoral success and has already tested its IT system during the party’s presidential primary and the Assin North by-election.

In an interview with the media, Dr. Omane Boamah dismisses claims by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) that they possess an insurmountable electoral strategy.

He asserts that the NDC can match the NPP’s IT capabilities, citing their successful handling of the Assin North by-election results in contrast to the NPP’s delayed collation efforts.

He said, “As we speak, their collated results for Assin North by-election is not ready although Joe Anokye was there. For instance, as I sit here, with my Smartphone, I know all that is happening in the 268 centers as far as the ongoing limited voter registration exercise is concerned.”

“But we don’t shout or talk about what we are doing. We did it seamlessly in our presidential primaries without noise. From there, we moved to Assin North, we’ve done it. Not that I am over-trusting the team that we have worked with, but as we speak, we’ve worked together for at least two years.”

He disclosed that, prior to his recent appointment as the Director of Elections in charge of IT, the team that deployed the NDC’s IT system for its presidential primary and the Assin North by-election, was chaired by the former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, an indication that they have adequate human resource to deliver.

“Let me assure our people, that just as we didn’t make noise about the presidential primaries and the collation in Assin North, we’ll deliver.”

Dr. Omane Boamah emphasizes that the NDC’s IT system is both robust and redundant, drawing attention to the significant data center infrastructure established during his tenure as Communication Minister. He underscores the importance of maintaining secrecy concerning certain state capabilities even after leaving government.

Addressing concerns about the NDC’s capacity for national elections, Dr. Omane Boamah expresses confidence in the party’s readiness and emphasizes their commitment to achieving their goals, with his appointment to lead the Election IT directorate as evidence of their dedication.

He also remarks on the NPP’s success in previous elections, crediting their effective collation of results. However, he reiterates that the NDC’s comprehensive election strategy will present formidable challenges to the NPP in the upcoming polls.

Dr. Omane Boamah concludes by confidently stating that the NDC will emerge victorious in the 2024 elections, citing internal polls and their commitment to countering perceived efforts to limit their chances, such as the Electoral Commission’s decision to reduce the number of voter registration centers.

Spend on your girlfriend only on her birthday – Akrobeto advises men

Recently, social media was abuzz with discussions sparked by renowned Ghanaian media personality and marriage counselor, Akumaa Mama Zimbi’s advice to men regarding spending on their girlfriends.

She suggested that men should reserve substantial spending for their girlfriends for special occasions like birthdays.

Adding to this perspective, Akwasi Boadi, popularly known as Akrobeto, a comedian and TV host, reiterated and shared his stance on this matter.

He highlighted a prevalent issue where some individuals, upon entering a relationship, unreasonably demand money and expect their partners to cover various expenses.

In alignment with Akumaa Mama Zimbi’s viewpoint, Akrobeto emphasized that constantly buying things for one’s girlfriend is unnecessary.

He stressed that financial burdens, especially those unrelated to the relationship, should not be placed upon a partner solely based on the relationship.

Sharing a personal experience, Akrobeto revealed an incident where his girlfriend asked for money to cover her mother’s hospital bills, including a required blood transfusion.

Perplexed, he asked to speak with a doctor to understand the situation better.

However, she insisted on payment before providing more information. Akrobeto humorously expressed his surprise, emphasizing that he’s neither a doctor nor a medicine seller.

Recalling the conversation, Akrobeto conveyed his astonishment as the girlfriend only had GHC100 and needed an additional GHC100 to meet the hospital expenses.

Despite his ability to help, he found the situation concerning, prompting him to reflect on the dynamics of such requests within relationships.

Ultimately, he highlighted the importance of financial responsibility and the need for equitable sharing of responsibilities in a relationship.

  • Voter registration exercise: EC’s lawlessness has been tolerated for an extended period – Franklin Cudjoe

Voter registration exercise: EC’s lawlessness has been tolerated for an extended period – Franklin Cudjoe

The president and founder of IMANI Africa, has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for limiting the voter registration exercise to its district offices.

Cudjoe voiced his apprehensions about the EC’s conduct, stating that it has been operating without accountability for a considerable period and has been unresponsive to advice and recommendations.

He lamented that the EC seemed to have been allowed to act lawlessly and show disregard for established procedures.

“The EC has been allowed to become lawless for some time…it is impervious to whatever advice is given them.”

One specific example he highlighted was the EC’s decision to confine the registration centres to its district offices, a choice that has been met with disapproval from a segment of the public due to the inconvenience of these locations for many eligible voters.

Notably, both the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and various civil society organizations have urged the EC to broaden the registration exercise to more accessible locations. Despite these calls, the EC has maintained its stance and continued registration exclusively at its district offices.

Cudjoe argued that the EC’s unwillingness to listen to the concerns of stakeholders and expand the registration process has led to long queues and delays at the registration centres.

He further called on the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to assert their concerns about the ongoing voter registration process, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that the EC adheres to the nation’s electoral laws.

  • You were appointed due to your relationship with the First Lady – Kpebu to Jean Mensa

You were appointed due to your relationship with the First Lady – Kpebu to Jean Mensa

Allegations of favoritism have surfaced as legal practitioner Martin Kpebu criticizes the Electoral Commissioner (EC) of Ghana, Jean Mensa.

He condemned her purported failure to extend the voter registration exercise and questions what he perceives as dubious decisions made by the Electoral Commission.

Kpebu minced no words when he harshly rebuked Mensa, asserting that her appointment seemed to be based not on her competence but on her association with the First Lady.

“What the EC is saying is totally wrong. What they are doing defies logic. If the EC eats humble pie and decides to extend registration to all the areas, it will be perfect for our democracy. It has always been clear that the EC is engaged in voter suppression. We cannot countenance this because this country does not belong to the EC. So Ghanaians have to get up.”

Furthermore, Mr Kpebu raised concerns about whether the Electoral Commission was treating the institution as if it were a private enterprise or their personal property.

“Is the EC your personal property? Is the EC a private company that you are running?” he asked.

Kpebu continued to express doubt about Jean Mensa’s qualifications for the role of Electoral Commissioner, alleging that her appointment was influenced by her close relationship with the First Lady.

“I’m not surprised because when Madam Mensa was being appointed, I said that she was not competent. I said it because I asked around everywhere and I never heard anything positive anywhere. I raised it those days she’s not competent. It’s just the cronyism. She’s related a bit to the First Lady, so that’s the connection.”

The legal expert concluded his critique by urging the Electoral Commission to reevaluate its decisions and extend the voter registration exercise to ensure broader citizen participation.

He also hinted at potential advocacy for changing Ghana’s name, underscoring the importance of understanding the nation’s history and identity.

Families of deceased in Sawla murder want justice

The families of three individuals who were shot by the police in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of the Savannah Region are seeking justice from the police.

Jimah Kocho, Habibu Abudi, and Haadi Salifu were apprehended by the police in 2022 from their respective homes in three different communities, suspected of involvement in a robbery incident within the area.

Relatives state that the trio was traced to Accra and only learned about their deaths through a court case they had to initiate, discovering that they were killed during an alleged exchange of gunfire with the police.

Chief Inspector Adams Yahaya, a retired officer and uncle 4to two of the deceased, emphasizes the importance of investigating and penalizing those responsible for this incident.

“We made some enquiries, and they told us the operation was not sanctioned by police headquarters or the National Operations in Accra. There’s no amount of money that can compensate human lives. So those who sanctioned the operation, we want the law to take its course, they should be investigated by a committee. If they are found culpable, they should be put before the court.

“All the deceased had children and wives, we need something [money] that can cater for their children from now to the tertiary level. We also need an apology from the policy administration. They have tainted the image of the family, those boys were not armed robbers,” he said.

Man arrested for allegedly using brother-inlaw for money ritual

The Diaso Divisional police command has arrested a 37-year-old individual under suspicion of conducting a money ritual that led to the demise of his brother-in-law.

Kwame Addo, employed as a site manager at an illicit mining operation situated in Diaso within the Upper Denkyira West district of the Central Region, engaged his brother-in-law to serve as the site’s administrative secretary.

The deceased, who worked as a tailor, accepted the offer due to the considerably higher salary it offered compared to his own profession.

According to an eyewitness, tragedy struck on the very first day the deceased assumed his role as the official secretary for the proposed mining site.

Reportedly, upon the deceased’s arrival at the site, Addo introduced him to the workers and guided him around the premises where mining activities were underway.

However, unbeknownst to the deceased, Addo had secretly enlisted the assistance of men hidden in the nearby bushes.

Upon reaching a secluded area of the site where no other workers were present, Addo joined forces with these individuals to carry out the gruesome murder of the secretary.

After confirming the victim’s demise, they disposed of his body by tossing it into one of the uncovered pits on the property in an attempt to conceal their crime.

Later that day, Addo returned home and informed the family that the secretary, who had been left at the site several hours earlier, had not yet returned home.

Concerned, the family, along with Addo, proceeded to the mining site in search of the missing secretary. Tragically, they discovered his lifeless body in one of the illegal mining pits.

Overwhelmed by the sight, Addo attempted to flee but was apprehended by family members at the scene. He faced a furious mob, but the police intervened just in time to prevent a lynching.

Currently, Addo is in police custody as authorities conduct a thorough investigation into this harrowing incident.

Make local garment industry a priority – Govt told

There is a growing call for the government to invest in and partner with the local garments and textile industry to incorporate sustainability principles into fashion design.

This comes in response to concerns about the detrimental effects of importing used clothing on the country’s economy.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sleek Garments Export Limited, Dr. Nora Bannerman, emphasized the need for this collaboration.

She believes that such an initiative would not only reduce the adverse impact of fast fashion on the environment but also generate significant profits for domestic manufacturers.

“So, this is where the government will come in and can support businesses to upgrade their equipment to produce fabrics that are quality but affordable and meet the standards of consumers,” she said.

Dr. Bannerman stated, “This is where the government can step in and support businesses in upgrading their equipment to produce high-quality yet affordable fabrics that meet consumer standards.”

She encouraged traders to engage in discussions and negotiations with local clothing manufacturers to produce clothing that promotes sustainability in fashion.

Kejetia traders halt protest following productive meeting with ECG officials

Traders at the new Kejetia Market in Kumasi have decided to call off their planned protest against the facility’s management following a successful meeting with officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Over the past few days, traders at Kejetia Market had been raising concerns within the facility by displaying warning signals aimed at the management.

Their primary demands were the resolution of recurring issues related to individual meters within the facility and the delayed construction of a borehole for their use.

To ensure their concerns were taken seriously, the traders had stressed that if their issues were not addressed by Tuesday, September 12, they would escalate their actions to ensure their grievances were heard.

Fortunately, significant progress was achieved after a meeting involving Samuel Pyne, the Kumasi Mayor who also serves as the board chairman of the facility, representatives from ECG, and the market’s management.

ECG has committed to providing the traders with the requested individual meters and has detailed payment terms to expedite the process.

Additionally, the traders reported that the borehole issue has been partially resolved, prompting them to suspend all planned actions in light of these recent developments.

Nana Akwasi Prempeh, the President of the Federation of Kumasi Traders, informed the media that they have temporarily halted their planned protest while awaiting the installation of meters in the Market.

“We held a meeting with the management and board of the Kumasi City Market and we resolved that going forward, all planned activities of the traders against the management have been put on hold. This came as a result of the meeting. Officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Market’s management came and made a presentation to us and proposed four scenarios for bringing individual meters to the Market.

“Of the four scenarios, we opted for one pending the contractual agreement that the management and the supposed contractor are going to sign but before the signing, ECG will implement a flat rate regime within the market during the period of the pre-installation and installation of the meters and so for now, all the activities we have planned have been put on hold.”

  • EPA creating policy to tackle elevated lead levels in cookware

EPA creating policy to tackle elevated lead levels in cookware

The CEO of Ghana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, is collaborating with other ministries to develop a Lead Prevention Policy to address lead exposure.

The EPA is also intensifying educational efforts to raise awareness about the risks associated with lead.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Dr. Kokofu stated, “the EPA will then move ahead and recommend that a high-level multi-sector ministerial committee, including the Ministry of Science, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, may consider establishing a lead prevention and reduction policy for Ghana with the support of Pure Earth and UNICEF.”

These actions have become imperative following a recent study that revealed elevated levels of lead contamination in popular metal cookware known as ‘dades3n’ across four regions in Ghana. The Global Rapid Market screening study, conducted by the environmental NGO Pure Earth’s Blacksmith Initiative, identified concerning levels of lead in consumer products and food items produced in low and middle-income countries, including Ghana.

The study found high levels of lead contamination in various items, with metal cookware (‘dades3n’) at 55%, ceramic cookware at 18%, children’s toys at 14%, and local mascara cosmetics at 7%.

A World Bank report also highlighted the severe impact of lead exposure on cognitive development, indicating that children under 5 years old worldwide lost a significant amount of IQ points due to lead exposure, particularly in low and middle-income countries.

Country Director for Pure Earth, Esmond Wisdom Quansah, emphasized the risks of lead poisoning associated with using metallic cookware.

He mentioned that the study results were consistent across multiple experiments, urging public awareness and consideration of alternatives to mitigate further damage.

“Children under 5 years old worldwide lost 765 million IQ points, those living in low and middle-income countries lost 729 million IQ points.”

“There is an average loss of 5.9 IQ points per child and this IQ points loss is 80% greater than the previous estimate,” the report stated.

Quansah revealed that leach tests conducted on the metallic or aluminum cooking pots showed that 52% of the pots tested had lead leaching in concentrations greater than the reference level of 10 ug/L. Although repeated leaching reduced lead levels, it remained above the 10 ug/L reference level in most cases, raising concerns about the safety of such cookware.

“What this points to is that we are not safe, if you happen to be eating from any of these metallic or ‘dades3n’ cookware we are at risk of lead poisoning.”

“We’ve grown a step further, our scientists have conducted what we call the leach test to determine the percentage of leach of this lead concentration in this metallic or aluminum cooking pot into the food and we were surprised by the findings of the scientists.”

“52% of the pots tested leached lead in concentrations greater than our reference level of 10 ug/L. The repeated leaching “boils” in pots in general resulted in lower lead in leachate, although lead remained above the 10 ug/L reference level in most cases, so that is a cause for concern for everyone and that is why we are putting this information in the public,” he explained.

2022 fire outbreaks caused Ghana GHS64M in losses – Bawumia

Vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that Ghana suffered losses exceeding GH¢64 million due to 6,796 fire outbreaks in 2022, resulting in 50 fatalities and 241 injuries.

These incidents had a substantial impact on individuals and organizations, including the government, which incurred property and asset losses.

Dr. Bawumia made this announcement during the 23rd Cadet Course Intake graduation parade of the Fire Academy and Training School (FATS) in Accra.

He expressed his displeasure with this situation, deeming it unacceptable, and called for collective efforts from all Ghanaians to adhere to fire safety measures to prevent such incidents.

He acknowledged that the consequences of these losses had been severe, with some individuals still grappling with the aftermath.

“I am reliably informed of how fire outbreak figures continue to dwindle across the country. This is welcoming news to all of us but most importantly, an indication that fires are indeed preventable if we all decide to and work towards preventing them,” he said.

Despite this, Dr. Bawumia expressed optimism that fire outbreak figures had been decreasing across the country, which he attributed to the preventable nature of fires when proper precautions are taken.

Dr. Bawumia commended various stakeholders, including Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, the Fire Service Council led by Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, Chief Fire Officer Julius Kuunuor, and the Fire Service’s management and officers, for their continuous efforts in addressing fire safety.

“This is very much evident in the number of projects that have sprung up at the Fire Academy and Training School in the spate of one year,” he said.

He emphasized that the fight for fire safety requires ongoing attention and concerted efforts to maintain and improve upon the achievements made so far.

He encouraged fire officers to continue educating the public and finding innovative ways to promote fire safety.

Dr. Bawumia also assured the government’s commitment to equipping the Fire Service with the necessary tools and equipment.

He highlighted the expansion of the Fire Academy and Training School’s capacity and the construction of two additional training facilities.

The Vice President mentioned the recruitment of 2,000 new entrants into the Fire Service, the provision of hydraulic platforms for high-rise building rescues, and the procurement of 200 Rapid Intervention Vehicles (RIVs).

He revealed that the prototype of the RIVs was already in the country, and the rest would be assembled locally and ready for use by the end of 2023.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated the government’s dedication to supplying the Fire Service with essential logistics to fulfill its mandate.

In conclusion, Dr. Bawumia encouraged the officer cadets to excel in their roles as firefighters, acknowledging the personal sacrifices they make in service to their country. He urged them to uphold the noble profession’s positive values and be exemplary ambassadors of the Ghana National Fire Service.

The graduation ceremony saw a total of 339 officer cadets, including 210 males and 129 females, complete their training. Officer Cadet Josephine E. Adoma Forson was recognized as the Overall Best Graduand.

Martin Kpebu to sue Akufo-Addo over corruption

Lawyer Martin Kpebu has announced his intention to take legal action against President Akufo-Addo for alleged corruption, stating that not even immunity granted to a former President will deter him from pursuing this course of action.

Mr Kpebu clarified that presidential immunity is intended to protect individuals for their official actions and not for acts of corruption. He made these remarks in an interview with the media on Saturday, September 16.

His statement was made in the context of discussing the recent apology issued by Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo.

“The immunity is for the things that he has done and not for acts like corruption,” he stated.

Mr Kpebu expressed concern that it took President Akufo-Addo a considerable amount of time to remove Safo from her position as Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, implying that such delays might indicate corruption.

Kpebu asserted his intention to take legal action against President Akufo-Addo as soon as the President leaves office, based on his allegations of corruption.

However, Richard Ahiagbah, the Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), criticized Kpebu’s frequent criticism of the President, describing it as “unexemplary” and highlighting Kpebu’s propensity to insult the President at will.

Don’t follow the likes of COP Alex Mensah be like Dampare – Suhuyini

Police officers have been encouraged to adopt the qualities of the current Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, as an example to follow.

In contrast, they have been advised not to look up to Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah, who is the outgoing Director-General of Operations of the Ghana Police Service.

This counsel was provided by the Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency, Alhassan Sayibo Suhuyini, during an interview with the media on Saturday, September 16.

This guidance stems from the recent appearances of both senior officers before an ad hoc committee of Parliament investigating a leaked audio tape allegedly involving individuals plotting the removal of IGP Dampare.

According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker, IGP Dampare exhibited greater maturity and professionalism compared to COP Alex Mensah.

“I have said it that police officers and especially because these days, our police officers, many of them, get the opportunity to wear uniforms as a result of their relationships with politicians, many of them.

“Because of that I am saying that police officers who want to be professionals and rise despite how they got into into the Service must make it a point to listen to the two officers.

“They should listen to the two officers who appeared before the committee and make a conscious decision not to be an Alex Mensah but to be a Dampare despite your political affiliation.”

He stressed that police officers, particularly those who may have entered the service due to political connections, should heed the examples set by these two officers.

Suhuyini emphasized the importance of aspiring to be professionals within the police force and advised officers to choose to follow in the footsteps of IGP Dampare, regardless of their political affiliations.

He noted that, despite their apparent political ties, IGP Dampare demonstrated professionalism and class during his appearance before the committee. In contrast, COP Alex Mensah was viewed as less professional by the MP.

IGP Dampare had appeared before the Atta Akyea committee on Tuesday, September 12, where he responded to allegations made by senior officers, including COP Alex Mensah, whom he referred to as his “senior brother.” Dampare dismissed these allegations as “baseless” and “unfounded.”

Voter registration: We are not paying people to get registered – NDC

The National Youth Organiser for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, has refuted allegations that the party has been transporting potential voters to the limited voter registration locations.

“We have seen videos of NPP going around communities dishing out money to people who have now turned 18 years to register. Have you seen any video of anybody from NDC bussing people?” he asked.

Opare Addo also acknowledged that it is acceptable for people to ask their leaders for assistance if they are experiencing financial difficulties.

“When you are leaders of a community and your members reach out to you about registration being done in communities far away where they are. And so we mobilised ourselves, can you help us with transportation, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it,” he said.

Additionally, Opare Addo emphasized that the NDC would not waste its time attending meetings of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), since their comments would not be taken into consideration.

He highlighted the actions of EC Boss Jean Mensa as the reason they decided against joining IPAC.

“We have been told by Jean Mensa that IPAC cannot advise her on things we have to do. On many occasions, we have gone on IPAC meetings and made some suggestions and Jean Mensa have been bold enough to tell us that she doesn’t need our suggestions. We don’t see the need to attend IPAC,” he said.

Opare Addo’s statements come amid allegations that both the NDC and the NPP are participating in voter mobilization practices, including bussing people to registration centres and offering money incentives to prospective registrants.

The Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has declared its intent to ban the importation of metal caskets into the nation as a measure to better control burial space.

MoFFA has stated that the use of metal caskets for burial purposes is considered a violation of the law.

The agency has explained that the law disapproves of the use of metal caskets because they do not decompose like wooden coffins.

This decision has been prompted by concerns that Ghana is facing a shortage of burial space. Dr. Yaw Twerefour, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MoFFA, made this announcement during an interview with the media.

Dr. Yaw Twerefour further clarified that MoFFA’s responsibilities encompass the control, licensing, and regulation of all aspects related to the handling of the deceased, including storage, burial, transportation, and disposal within the country.

He emphasized that MoFFA is currently engaged in discussions with various stakeholders to arrive at a final decision regarding the importation of metal caskets into the country.

This recent arrest brings the total number of individuals detained in connection with this incident to two.

The apprehended individuals, Allister John (a househelp of the deceased) and James Anokye, were captured during a targeted intelligence-led operation conducted on September 14, 2023.

According to the police, the two suspects had fled with the victim’s KIA Sportage private car, bearing registration number GS 307-21, which they later sold.

The authorities have located the vehicle at Adenta, along with its accompanying documents, and have impounded it at the Oyibi Police Station for further investigation.

Ongoing efforts are in place to apprehend the buyer and seek their cooperation in the ongoing investigation.

The victim, known as Afua Ahenkan or Princess Afua, suffered severe stab wounds on Monday, September 11, 2023, inflicted by the young man she had recently hired through an agency a month prior.

The assailant launched the attack while the deceased was engaged in a phone call.

Her distressing cries for help raised concerns for the person on the other end of the line, prompting them to quickly rush to her residence after multiple unanswered calls.

In the interim, the deceased’s body has been placed at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has instituted a prohibition on traditional public gatherings within Nsawam and Adoagyiri.

This decision comes in the wake of a recent shooting incident in the locality, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives and the hospitalization of five others.

In a joint effort between the Shama District Security Council and the Minerals Commission, significant quantities of ammonium substances and explosives have been uncovered within the confines of the Anto Aboso quarry enclave.

This revelation has sparked deep concerns regarding the safety of both the labor force and the nearby communities situated in the district.

It is worth noting that this hazardous discovery site encompasses roughly six separate quarry sites.

Francis Annobil Jnr, the Assistant Manager at the Minerals Commission, stressed the importance of proper storage for potentially perilous materials.

He emphasized that companies possessing the necessary permits should store such substances exclusively in designated areas referred to as Magazines.

Ebenezer Dadzie, the District Chief Executive of Shama, addressed the press directly from the discovery site.

He elucidated that an intelligence-driven operation led to the revelation of these concealed materials, ingeniously hidden within quarry dust amidst the bush.

Mr. Dadzie underscored the unwavering commitment of the Assembly to safeguarding the welfare of the neighboring communities and the imperative nature of removing these substances to avert any preventable accidents or loss of life.

Inadequate price hike may drive farmers to smuggle cocoa to Ivory Coast – GNACOF

The Ghana National Association of Cocoa Farmers (GNACOF) has criticized the government’s recent announcement of a 64 percent increase in the producer price of cocoa as grossly insufficient.

They express concerns that this inadequate price hike may lead farmers to continue smuggling cocoa to Ivory Coast, where prices are considerably higher.

The President of GNACOF, Stephenson Anane Boateng, emphasized the need for the government to take more significant steps to combat smuggling, a persistent issue in the cocoa sector.

“The price in Ivory Coast is GH¢1,450 per bag, and if our government increases our cocoa price to GH¢1,308, then we are nowhere. People will continue to smuggle their cocoa just because the price compared to even the previous one is not up to their level. We as cocoa farmers no longer trust any politician,” he said.

Boateng also pointed out that cocoa farmers have lost trust in politicians’ promises, reflecting a growing disillusionment within the farming community.

President Akufo-Addo had announced a 63.6% increase in the farm gate price of cocoa beans on September 9, raising it from GH₵800 to GH₵1,308 per bag for the upcoming cocoa season.

Despite this increase, Boateng contended that it falls short of effectively curbing smuggling.

He called on the government to address the underlying causes of smuggling, including poverty among farmers and the lack of access to affordable credit in the cocoa industry.

Alajo: Cab driver’s vehicle veers into Odaw River

A taxi driver has faced a perilous situation after his vehicle unexpectedly veered off its intended path and ended up in the Odaw River at Alajo on Friday September 15.

According to an eyewitness, the taxi driver was attempting to navigate a curve toward a nearby car wash.

“The driver was trying to turn at the washing bay; unfortunately, he ended up in the Odaw River at Alajo,” the witness explained.

Fortunately, quick action was taken, and the driver was safely rescued from the accident site. “So far, the driver has been successfully removed,” the witness added.

The Odaw River, initially channelized into a canal to mitigate recurring floods in parts of Accra, has struggled to contain even minor showers in recent times.

    https://twitter.com/oyerepaofficial/status/1702689551590773000?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

The river’s course stretches from the Abokobi and Adjankote hills through various areas like Ashongman, Atomic Energy area, West Legon, Achimota, Alajo, Avenor, and Agbogbloshie before reaching the Atlantic Ocean through the Korle Lagoon, draining the Accra metropolis.

However, this essential service is hindered due to the excessive accumulation of garbage within the river.

Despite government efforts to address this issue through costly dredging, the problem persists. Scrap dealers, traders, mechanics, and squatters residing along the riverbanks worsen the situation by indiscriminately dumping various forms of waste into the river.

The Odaw River has sadly turned into not only a dumping site for solid waste but also a receptacle for human waste, as some individuals openly defecate along its banks, even during daylight hours.

You couldn’t be posting on TikTok and yet be sick – Godwin Mahama to Adwoa Safo

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, for her recent apology to her constituents.

This criticism comes in the wake of her recent apology to her constituents for her absence last year.

The NDC representative contended that Adwoa Safo’s actions appear to underestimate the intelligence of her constituents.

According to him, this assessment is rooted in the fact that she departed the country for nearly a year, citing health reasons, but still found time to maintain her TikTok presence.

Godwin Mahama, asserted that Adwoa Safo’s plea for a second term in office amounts to a display of disrespect towards the residents of Dome Kwabenya.

“She left the country close to one year in the name of she wasn’t well but she kept recording herself on TikTok and there was nothing showing that she wasn’t well.

“It is all because the NPP thinks whatever attitude they show to the people of Dome Kwabenya, because it is their stronghold, they will still vote for them. Since 2004 that the constituency was created, it has always been the NPP and I think they are taking the people of Dome Kwabenya for granted,” he said.

Godwin Mahama further argued that Adwoa Safo’s apology, given as she seeks re-election for a second term, was a sign of disrespect toward the people of Dome Kwabenya.

He criticized her for neglecting her parliamentary duties when her constituents were facing various challenges, such as inadequate roads and markets.

He emphasized that the people of Dome Kwabenya expected their representative in parliament to be actively engaged in addressing their issues.

“When you go to Dome Kwabenya, they have a lot of issues including a lack of roads, market. Yesterday I listened to them and they were complaining bitterly. So they were expecting her to be on the floor of parliament,” he added.

In response to the criticism, Sarah Adwoa Safo, the incumbent MP for Dome Kwabenya, issued a heartfelt apology to her constituents and the leadership of the NPP for her misconduct.

She acknowledged neglecting her duties and violating parliamentary and party rules during her absence.

Disorganised voter registration straining MPs’ financial resources – Zanetor

Member of Parliament representing Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has voiced her concerns regarding the ongoing limited voter registration initiative conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC), highlighting its adverse financial implications for Members of Parliament (MPs).

She also characterized the procedure as disorderly due to its attempt to serve a multitude of districts from a single location.

Agyeman-Rawlings expressed these sentiments while visiting the EC’s headquarters alongside former president, John Mahama to evaluate the registration process.

The parliamentarian also noted that the current arrangement places a financial burden on MPs, who are responsible for providing transportation and other forms of support to constituents in need of registration services.

“Lots of people, who are here, live from hand to mouth. Any moment they sit here is money potentially they can make in a day. We need to make the process a little smoother. I’m not quite sure what the EC is going to do about this situation. We have too many districts and one location, which is making it very stressful for lots of those who are here,” she remarked.

When questioned about whether the registration exercise was straining MPs financially, she replied, “It’s the case across the board and it’s one of the things why we were not in favour of the limited registration exercise being done in this form.”

Agyeman-Rawlings urged the EC to decentralize the registration process and allocate additional resources to ensure a seamless and efficient operation.

The EC initiated the voter registration process on Tuesday at its district offices across the nation, allowing individuals who have reached the age of 18 to obtain voter identity cards for the upcoming elections.

Three arrested for selling SIM cards under false names

Three mobile phone operators stand accused in an Accra Circuit Court for purportedly vending pre-registered diverse SIM cards to the public at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

The police assert that all these SIM cards were registered with different Ghana cards without the knowledge of the cardholders.

Lydia Serwaa Akoto, 36, was reportedly found offering for sale two registered Vodafone SIM cards and 13 pre-registered MTN SIM cards.

Appiah Danquah Ampofo, 46, was also found offering 19 pre-registered MTN and nine Vodafone SIM cards without authorization.

In the case of Kwadwo Kyei, 53, three pre-registered Vodafone SIM cards were found to be offered for sale.

The three accused individuals have been charged with “knowingly dealing in pre-registered subscriber identity modules or user identity modules.”

All three defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court, presided over by Evelyn Asamoah, has granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of GH¢80,000 each, with three sureties required for each defendant, two of whom must be gainfully employed.

Their next court appearance is scheduled for October 19, 2023.

The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Haligah, stated that the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) of the Ghana Police Service received information that mobile money vendors in the Accra metropolis were selling pre-registered SIM cards from various networks to the public. Acting on this information, a police team arrested Lydia Serwaa Akoto, Appiah Danquah Ampofo, and Kwadwo Kyei on May 4, 2023.

Upon searching the accused persons, police discovered various suspected pre-registered SIM cards, as well as cash.

When questioned about the source of their supply, they claimed to have obtained the SIM cards from agents of various network service providers at their shops but had limited information about these suppliers, including their addresses. Nevertheless, they could identify them when in contact.

On May 30, 2023, all the suspected pre-registered SIM cards were sent to the respective telecommunications companies for verification. Reports received on July 3, 2023, confirmed the pre-registration status of the SIM cards, with some linked to different individuals’ Ghana cards without their knowledge.

The accused persons allegedly admitted to the offense in their investigation caution statement, according to the Prosecutor.

Sophia Akuffo criticises Mahama for ‘NPP-NDC judiciary’ comments

Former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo has rebuked ex-president John Dramani Mahama’s recent allegations, wherein he accused President Akufo-Addo of stacking the judiciary with judges aligned with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Sophia Akuffo criticized Mahama’s comments, deeming them unnecessary and potentially damaging to the judiciary’s reputation.

During the NDC’s third annual lawyers’ conference in Akosombo, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer asserted that the NPP had populated the courts with judges supportive of their party.

He suggested that NDC lawyers should prepare to serve on the bench to restore balance if the NDC wins the 2024 elections.

“We know they [NPP] have packed the courts because they fear accountability when they leave office. We must be prepared as NDC lawyers to go to the bench to balance the current situation,” Mahama said.

In response, the former Chief Justice, during an interview with Asaase Radio, expressed concern that such comments unfairly tarnish the judiciary’s reputation. She questioned whether Mahama’s own appointments during his tenure were influenced by political affiliation and emphasized the need to avoid such labels, which could create unnecessary pressure within the judiciary.

“He has been through the process of appointing other people before, so was it that because they were NDC?…it always upsets me when you get comments like oh this one is NPP judge, oh this one is NDC and yet you have never seen the person on any party’s rally or platforms.”

She added, “These are some of the unnecessary pressures imposed on the judiciary. What difference does that label make to me, my career, and my work?… Sometimes it affects you.”

President Akufo-Addo also criticized Mahama for his remarks, describing them as “very dangerous” and a “brazen attack on the independence of the judiciary” during a speech at the Bar Conference in Cape Coast on Monday, September 11.

The GBA shared Akufo-Addo’s concerns about the judiciary’s independence but disagreed with his approach.

The GBA believed that safeguarding the judiciary’s independence required all politicians, regardless of party affiliation, to uphold the rule of law and the separation of powers.

“The GBA believes that the best way to protect the independence of the judiciary is to ensure that all politicians, regardless of their party affiliation, respect the rule of law and the separation of powers.”

Demolition of illegal structures near Kpeshie Lagoon begins

The La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly begins a month-long demolition effort to clear structures encroaching on Kpeshie Lagoon’s buffer zone.

This action forms a crucial part of the Assembly’s ongoing commitment to mitigating recurrent flooding issues within the municipality.

During the inaugural day of the demolition operation, Solomon Kotey Nikoi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), addressed the media, emphasizing that the demolition efforts would persist until all residences within the Lagoon’s buffer zone were removed.

“It is going to be a month-long demolishing exercise because people have taken the law into their own hands and they are developing the buffer zone and we have been here several times to warn them to stop developing the place and they have not listened and so we are starting a month-long exercise to demolish them.

“As an Assembly, we are here to deliver on our mandate and we are supposed to enforce the law as per Act 936, if anyone builds within the right of space, the Assembly has the authority to demolish that structure and so we are here to deliver on our mandate.”
Nikoi also stressed that the Assembly will take legal action against anyone whose activities impede the free flow of the Lagoon.

Nikoi underscored that the Assembly would pursue legal action against individuals obstructing the unimpeded flow of the Lagoon.

“We have already identified instances where waterways have been obstructed through unauthorized filling, and we have taken legal action against those responsible. For those stretches of land that have been unlawfully filled, our ongoing investigations have pinpointed the culprits. By the following week, we plan to serve them with court summonses as we prepare to take them to court. Upholding the law in this regard is a paramount aspect of our mandate.”

In summary, the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly is actively addressing the issue of illegal encroachments on the Kpeshie Lagoon’s buffer zone through a comprehensive month-long demolition initiative.

The Assembly is determined to enforce the law and pursue legal action against those hindering the free flow of the Lagoon.

“Some of the waterways have been filled and we have gotten some of the people that did that and we have taken them to court. Some of the stretches have been filled and we have been able to do our background investigations and we have gotten those who did the filling and by next week, we are going to serve them with a court summons and we are taking them to court and it is our mandate we fight this illegality.”

  • NDC’s statements on cocoa prices leave the devil astonished – NPP

NDC’s statements on cocoa prices leave the devil astonished – NPP

The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has expressed astonishment at the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) pledge to raise the cocoa price to GHC2,800.

The NDC downplayed President Akufo-Addo‘s commitment to increase the cocoa producer price per bag to GHC1,308 for the upcoming cocoa season, marking a substantial 63.6% increase in the farm gate price of cocoa beans.

Contrary to the President’s stated amount, the NDC claimed they would have elevated the price to GHC2,800. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, conveyed this perspective during a conference with cocoa farmers in Dadiesoaba, Ahafo Region.

He emphasized that under an NDC government, the cocoa bag price would be GH¢2,500 with an additional GH¢300 premium, totaling GH¢2,800 per bag.

“As we speak now, cocoa prices have seen the biggest increment since 1977, so it is your season to make a profit. If NDC were to be in government, we would have a bag of cocoa at GH¢2,500 and add a premium of GH¢300. So you would have received GH¢2,800 per bag,” Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said at a conference with cocoa farmers at Dadiesoaba in the Ahafo Region.

“The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government has once again shortchanged Ghanaian cocoa farmers. The announced increment in the farmgate price of cocoa to GH₵1,308 is a total rip-off as cocoa farmers will continue to remain worse off than they were seven (7) years ago under the NDC/Mahama government. The Spot Price of cocoa on the international market has surged to a record high of about $3,600 per metric ton as of 31st August 2023. This price is the highest since 1977- that is, in the last 46 years,” former President John Mahama also made these remarks at Tepa in the Ashanti Region during the opening of the 2023/2024 cocoa season.

In response, Salam Mustapha, during an interview with the media, he expressed his amazement at the criticisms from the NDC.

He criticized the NDC’s actions and statements, suggesting that even the devil would find their conduct surprising and questionable.

Mustapha commended President Akufo-Addo for his efforts in providing relief to cocoa farmers and hoped that history would recognize and appreciate the President, COCOBOD, leadership, and cocoa farmers for their contributions.

“Some of the things that the NDC does in this country, I think even the devil gets surprised…When you look at what they are capable of saying and doing, even the devil will not try it. May history remember him kindly together with the COCOBOD, the leadership and the cocoa farmers,” he added..

    Minority labels cocoa farm-gate price a ‘rip-off’

The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has criticized the new cocoa bag price of GHC1,308 as insufficient and exploitative.

President Akufo-Addo announced the increase from GH¢800 to GH¢1,308 per bag at the start of the new cocoa season, justifying it as the highest price in West Africa over the past 15 years and vital for sustaining the country’s cocoa production—a linchpin of the economy.

However, former President John Dramani Mahama labeled this a disservice to farmers.

He highlighted the international market price soaring to a 46-year record high of $3,600 and criticized the government for not ensuring that cocoa farmers received their fair share of the international Free on Board (FOB) price.

Meanwhile, Mahama has emphasized that the government’s allocation of only GH¢1,308 per bag, constituting 52.7% of the FOB price, was unjust to the farmers.

He also mentioned his government’s higher percentage allocation in 2016 and urged the current administration to build upon that foundation.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson supported Mahama’s stance, emphasizing that the international spot price for cocoa was $3,800, averaging around $3,600 recently.

He noted that these figures excluded the Living Income Differential (LID) of $400 per tonne paid to Ghana by international buyers for the direct benefit of cocoa farmers, as well as a premium of $497 received by Ghana in June 2023 for every tonne of cocoa.

    Below is his full statement

H.E JOHN MAHAMA IS RIGHT; NEWLY-ANNOUNCED COCOA FARM-GATE PRICE IS A RIP-OFF- COCOBOD CEO MUST STOP THE LIES AND RESIGN IMMEDIATELY!

    14/09/2023

    1. It is an indisputable fact that COCOBOD sells cocoa through both forward sales and spot sales.
    2. This fact was confirmed by the failed CEO of COCOBOD, Joseph Boahen Aidoo who has indicated in his so-called open letter to H.E John Dramani Mahama, that portions of the anticipated cocoa production volume for the 2023/2024 season was not sold as part of forward sales between October 2022 and March 2023.
    3. It is also an irrefutable fact, that the international spot price of cocoa currently stands at $3,800 and has averaged around $3,600 in the last couple of months, as accurately stated by H.E John Dramani Mahama.
    4. It is noteworthy, that the average international FOB price of $3,600 excludes the Living Income Differential (LID) of $400 per tonne that is paid by international buyers to Ghana for the direct benefit of the cocoa farmer.
    5. Also, the average international FOB price of $3,600 excludes premium of $497 that Ghana got in June 2023 for every tonne of cocoa.
    6. The interbank (dollar to cedi) rate as at the time the 2023/2024 cocoa season was opened was GHS11.03 and is currently hovering around GHS11.05.
    7. This means that for spot sales, government is getting a gross FOB price of averagely GHS39,708 per tonne of cocoa, excluding the LID of $400 per tonne and premium of $497 per tonne.
    8. This brings the gross FOB price per bag of cocoa to approximately GHS2,482, excluding the LID of $400 per tonne and premium of $497 per tonne.
    9. When the LID of $400 per tonne and premium of $497 per tonne are factored into the pricing formula, the price per bag of cocoa comes to about GHS3,100.
    10. It is therefore totally unfair and unconscionable for government to be giving suffering cocoa farmers a paltry GHS1,308 per bag as farm-gate price, which only constitutes 52.7% of the gross FOB price (excluding premium and LID) that the government will be getting from spot sales.
    11. On the issue of forward sales, it should be noted that, while Ghana’s forward sales policy has existed over the years, it has been guided by the principle of maximising income for farmers through proper market forecasting. The objective is to identify the highest price points on the futures market so as to secure the best price for our cocoa and maximize farmers incomes.
    12. The quantity of cocoa sold through forward sales for various futures position are carefully managed, leaving reasonable portions for possible spot sales when the market price rises.
    13. Hiding behind forward sales to recklessly dissipate and give away Ghana’s cocoa at cheap prices as the failed CEO of COCOBOD is claiming, is preposterous and unacceptable. This is particularly so given the fact that, it has been amply clear from every available indicator since last year, that the international market price was going to significantly increase on account of the huge global supply deficit of cocoa.
    14. Additionally, Ghana’s light crop beans form only a small portion of the total production volume of the country. In recent years, good rainfall and weather patterns have resulted in even smaller and negligible quantity of light crop and small beans.
    15. It is therefore disingenuous for the CEO of COCOBOD to attempt to cover up his failed sale and marketing strategy by contriving non-existent justifications. It is unacceptable to toy with the life and income of farmers by hiding behind insignificant factors. I dare the CEO of COCOBOD to declare the exact quantity and categories of cocoa sold so far since he has the data.
    16. May I remind the failed CEO of COCOBOD, that cocoa in recent time is selling at a 46-year record high. The recent prices of cocoa are the highest since 1977. At this 46-year record high world market prices, I wish to reiterate that this government’s much-touted gross FOB price of $2,600 if indeed true, is nothing but a product of gross incompetence, obscene corruption, willful negligence and reckless mismanagement of the cocoa pricing system. This has shortchanged our already-impoverished cocoa farmers as rightly pointed out by H.E President John Dramani Mahama.
    17. The fact that COCOBOD has made huge losses for the last six (6) consecutive years that Joseph Boahen Aidoo has been at the helm of affairs, shows that he is grossly incompetent and totally unfit to manage that important state institution. Even more bizarre is the fact that, the national annual yield of cocoa has sharply declined from 969,000mt to about 650,000mt under the watch of the failed CEO of COCOBOD. This is the lowest cocoa production volume in the last thirteen (13) years. HE MUST STOP THE LIES AND RESIGN IMMEDIATELY!
    18. Notice is hereby served, that your gross mishandling of the affairs of the one-time pride of the nation – COCOBOD, which has resulted in these historic losses, and your monumental incompetence which has completely crippled that institution, will soon be the subject of rigorous Parliamentary scrutiny in line with the Minority’s solemn duty to the Ghanaian people.

  • Importers and exporters association unhappy over new veterinary import levy at ports

Importers and exporters association unhappy over new veterinary import levy at ports

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana has expressed deep concern regarding recent developments at the country’s ports.

The government, through the Veterinary Services Department (VSD), has introduced a levy that could have negative implications for importers and the broader business community.

The Association has contended that the government’s decision to implement the Veterinary Import levy lacks careful consideration.

A memo from the Veterinary Services Department, which has circulated widely, instructs importers of frozen products to undergo a registration process with the VSD.

This process includes applying for import approval by providing details such as product quantity and country of origin.

Furthermore, importers are required to submit consignment documents through the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) to the VDS director for verification.

This move has raised concerns within the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, as they fear that it may have adverse consequences for their operations and the business community as a whole.

    Find the MEMO below:

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana has been saddened by new developments at the country’s Ports, where the government through the Veterinary Services Department has introduced an obnoxious levy that could further hurt Importers and the business community as a whole.

The Association believes the decision by the government through the Veterinary Services Department to introduce the Vertinary Import levy was not thought through carefully.

A memo from the Veterinary Services department which has since been in circulation directing importers of frozen products to first register with the VSD, and apply for import approval by writing to the SVD director by stating the quantity, and country of origin of the product. Afterward, Importers must also submit consignment documents through the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) to the VDS director for verification.

After all this stress the worrying part of this obnoxious levy is that Importers of frozen products will be made to pay between 2,500 to 2,800 for each container of frozen food depending on the quantity. Again Importers will be charged 200ghc as an inspection fee, and 500ghc for lab tests. This means an importer of frozen food will be paying almost 4000ghc to the VSD under the new veterinary import levy.

This means if an importer of frozen foods is importing 20 containers, he or she must be ready to pay 80,000ghc as a Veterinary Import Levy aside from the existing draconian port duties, taxes, and levies that have become an albatross and a threat to local Importers and the business community.

Ironically, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has been running these tests and inspections at a cost of almost 2,000ghc.
So the question here is why is the government of Ghana and the Veterinary Services Department charging Importers of frozen food almost 4000ghc for a service that the FDA was rendering at a cheaper rate?

Is the Nana Addo-led government through its finance minister, the GRA, and the Veterinary Services Department trying to tell Importers that, the FDA has become ineffective in the discharge of their duties or this is part of a grand scheme by the government to meet its revenue target at the detriment of Importers and the business community?

Bear in mind, that Importers will have no other reason than to pass the cost they will incur from this new levy onto consumers, which could see the prices of goods and services skyrocketing to an unprecedented higher rate.

We once again call on the government to as a matter of urgency scrap this levy, since it has no basis for improving the already dying maritime industry.

    Signed.

Investigate security company – Family of murdered businesswoman in Kumasi calls on police

The family of a businesswoman, allegedly murdered by her security guard in Kumasi, has demanded a police inquiry into the security company responsible for assigning the suspect to her residence.

Princess Afia Ahenkan, aged 37, reportedly met her demise on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the hands of the 22-year-old security guard.

The suspect is also accused of stealing the victim’s vehicle and other belongings before fleeing the scene.

The prime suspect was apprehended by the police at his hideout on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

In the wake of the arrest, the grieving family insists on an examination of the security company that employed the suspect.

A relative of the deceased, Patrick Mensah, expressed his concerns in an interview with the media,

“Not up to two weeks when my mom brought the security guard here. I can’t say much but what I want is justice. I want the police to investigate the company and bring out some good news. Because you can’t just come here barely two weeks to commit such a crime. I will leave it to the police to do everything.”

Blame EC, judiciary and clergy for challenges in future – NDC youth organiser

The National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), known as George Opare Addo or Pablo, has expressed concerns about three key institutions in Ghana.

According to him the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), the judiciary, and the clergy should be held accountable if Ghana faces adverse consequences.

During an interview with the media on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, Pablo accused the EC of intentionally attempting to disenfranchise Ghanaians in the ongoing limited voter’s registration exercise.

He also criticized the judiciary for not intervening when called upon to address the EC’s alleged wrongdoing.

Pablo, reacting to the Supreme Court’s decision not to set a date for an injunction against the EC’s limited voter’s registration exercise, emphasized that when the system fails to deliver justice, people may resort to taking matters into their own hands.

He stated, “There are three organizations in Ghana that should bear responsibility if any unfortunate events occur. First, we must hold the judiciary accountable because when people are denied access to justice, they may decide to enforce the law themselves.”

Pablo went on to express his concerns about the Electoral Commission, alleging that state institutions had been compromised, and said, “Akufo-Addo has undermined our state institutions. For the first time, all three leaders of the EC are members of the same political party.”

“There are three organisations in Ghana that have to be blamed if any bad thing happens in Ghana. The first group we must blame is the judiciary because when people cannot access justice, they decide to take the laws into their own hands.

“The second organisation is the Electoral Commission. Akufo-Addo has destroyed our state institutions. For the first time, the three people leading the EC are members,” he said.

He added, “The 3rd group of people who are to blame if things go haywire in Ghana is the clergy, our pastors and our Imams.”

  • Asokwa: GRA addresses concerns of assembly members over property tax collection

Asokwa: GRA addresses concerns of assembly members over property tax collection

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has taken action in response to the concerns raised by assembly members within the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, who have threatened to assume direct responsibility for property tax collection.

These assembly members assert that since an entity designated by the GRA took over property rate collection in 2023, the assembly has not been receiving its rightful share of revenue.

In contrast, the GRA has insisted that it has executed all essential measures, and their records indicate that Municipal and Metropolitan District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country have experienced increased property revenue since the implementation of the new collection system in April.

The head of communications for the GRA’s property rate project, Ernest Adade, has advised assembly members nationwide to educate residents about the new collection method in order to boost revenue.

Adade expressed, “All the assemblies need to do is inform their ratepayers that there is a new method for paying property rates. This new approach involves using your mobile phone to access portal.myassembly.gov.gh and make payments.

If that is not feasible, we have established a dedicated call center to assist individuals in making property rate payments directly to the assemblies, without the need for human intervention.”

Additionally, Adade disclosed that the GRA plans to hold meetings with assembly members to provide further clarification on the collections and address their concerns.

“The only thing the assemblies need to do is tell their ratepayers that there is a new way to pay property rate and the new way is for you to take your mobile phone and dial portal.myassembly.gov.gh and pay. If you cannot do that, we have built a full call centre to help people pay their property rates direct to the assemblies with no human intervention.”

Adade also revealed that the GRA will be meeting with the assembly members to educate them more on the collections and address their concerns.

“We are going around all the assemblies trying to engage and improve the payment process,” Adade said. “What we realized is that most of the assemblies have folded their arms and sitting down that some money is coming from GRA for them and they are going to sit down and wait for that money.

“But I keep saying that the GRA does not necessarily collect property rates. Now the new property rate regime does not allow anybody to go and collect property rates from anyone. Everybody is paying directly to the assemblies’ account.”

ur attention that many assemblies have adopted a passive stance, expecting funds from the GRA, but it’s important to note that the GRA no longer collects property rates. Under the new property rate system, individuals are making direct payments to the assemblies’ accounts.”

  • Ofori-Atta’s actions have brought BoG this far, he must resign – NDC

Ofori-Atta’s actions have brought BoG this far, he must resign – NDC

The Member of Parliament representing Bawku Central Constituency, Mahama Ayariga, has stated that all available evidence suggests that the issues plaguing the Bank of Ghana (BoG) are primarily the result of actions taken by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.

Consequently, he affirmed that both the Minority and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have adopted a fresh stance, demanding the resignation of Ken Ofori-Atta as well.

“We demand that the Governor should resign, he and his two deputies and, in fact, given the posture and attitude of the Finance Minister, we now take a position that the Finance Minister himself should go because even if we bring a new Governor, every indication is that this Finance Minister is going to collude and collaborate and put pressure on them to do the very things that this Governor and his teams are doing,” he stated.

This development arises in response to an article written by Mr. Ofori-Atta in defense of Governor Dr. Ernest Yedu Addison.

Entitled ‘Standing Strong with the Bank of Ghana,’ the article was published earlier on the same Thursday. In the article, Mr. Ofori-Atta praised the Governor as “a capable professional known for his quiet resolve.”

The article also highlighted their collaborative achievements over nearly seven years, including preserving the stability of the banking system, establishing the Consolidated Bank of Ghana (CBG) and the Development Bank of Ghana, raising over $10 billion in the Eurobond market and AfriExim bank, reducing inflation to single digits (7.9%), and maintaining a stable currency, which included implementing the Gold-for-Oil program.

Mr. Ayariga countered this praise by emphasizing that Governor Addison “should not be lauded” because, according to him, although the Governor achieved single-digit inflation in the past, he has overseen an increase in inflation to over 40 percent due to incompetence.

Consequently, Mr. Ayariga argued that this inflation surge provides a legitimate basis for demanding the Governor’s resignation.

“In these nearly seven years, we have worked together to ensure: the inviolability of the banking system; the establishment of the Consolidated Bank of Ghana (CBG) and the Development Bank of Ghana; the raising of over $10 billion in the Eurobond market and AfriExim bank.

“He brought inflation down to single digits of 7.9% for the first time; and managed an impressive period of currency stability in our country including the implementation of the Gold-for-Oil programme.

“It is either simply the height of irony or a sad reflection of the state of public discourse in our country that this man, steps up in a period of unprecedented global economic meltdown and domestic economic crises, and he is being pilloried for his good work.”

Previously, the Minority had given the Governor a 21-day ultimatum to resign, with the threat of organizing marches to demand his removal if he did not comply. However, the Minority’s two attempts to organize these marches were thwarted.

The first attempt, scheduled for Tuesday, September 5, was halted by an injunction secured by the Accra Regional Police Command, which is still pending in an Accra High Court.

The second attempt, planned for Tuesday, September 12, was canceled due to ongoing negotiations with the police. A new date, Tuesday, October 3, has been agreed upon for the rescheduled march.

Dampare is Ghana’s finest IGP till date – Ahafo NPP Chairman

The Ahafo regional chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, has stated that the performance of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, is patently evident to Ghanaians who evaluate his tenure objectively.

In his view, the operations of the Police and the level of public trust in the institution have markedly improved since Dr. Dampare assumed leadership.

“Let’s stop stabbing hardworking people in the back. What this man is doing is obvious for every Ghanaian to see. Even if you don’t like him, you can tell that the police service is much better under him. Because we are so used to doing wrong, we can’t accept people who are transformational.

“All other IGPs in the past did their part and have left, but if you look at the changes, the visibility, the public confidence in the service, and all that, you can tell that he’s the best Ghana has had in many years, and we must protect and defend people like that. In my region, I see police people on motorbikes everywhere you pass, and we are allowing a few jealous individuals to destroy such a person. That is not right, and we must speak up,” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM on Friday, September 15, 2023.

Sekyere passionately advocates for refraining from undermining diligent individuals. He emphasizes that Dr. Dampare’s contributions are conspicuous to all Ghanaians, regardless of personal preferences.

He noted the positive transformation in the police service under Dr. Dampare’s leadership, citing enhanced visibility, heightened public confidence, and overall improvements.

He contends that Dr. Dampare is arguably the most effective Inspector General of Police in recent memory and calls for his protection and support. In his region, he observes a significant increase in police presence, evident by the proliferation of officers on motorcycles. He condemns any attempts by envious individuals to tarnish Dr. Dampare’s reputation and implores others to voice their support.

These sentiments were expressed during an interview with the media on Friday, September 15, 2023.

Earlier in the week, Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare appeared before a parliamentary ad hoc committee investigating a leaked tape in which some police officers discussed his removal. Those making the allegations had previously testified before the committee.

The committee is currently in recess and is scheduled to reconvene on October 2, 2023.

Omane Boamah’s appointment must be reviewed – NDC supporter

The Council of Elders within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has received a formal petition requesting a reconsideration of the recent appointment of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, former Minister of Communications, to the position of Director of Elections and IT.

This petition has been submitted by Delanyo Agbe, a self-identified concerned NDC supporter and social activist, who expresses a deep commitment to the party’s progress and success.

In the petition, Agbe puts forth several reasons for his request, prominently stating that Dr. Omane Boamah may lack the requisite expertise to effectively manage matters related to elections and information technology.

“Election management and ICT are critical components of modern political campaigning,” he wrote.

“Dr. Omane Boamah’s medical background, while noteworthy, does not seem to align with the intricate technicalities of information and communication technology and the complexities of electoral processes.”

Agbe emphasizes the significance of election management and ICT within contemporary political campaigning, noting that Dr. Omane Boamah’s medical background, although commendable, may not align with the intricate technical aspects of information and communication technology and the complexities of electoral processes.

“I implore you to consider this petition seriously and to engage in an open dialogue regarding the concerns raised,” Mr Agbe wrote in his petition.

“The NDC’s future success hinges on our ability to adapt, evolve, and address shortcomings effectively.”

While expressing respect for the party’s leadership decisions, Agbe urges a careful consideration of the suitability of individuals for specific roles, emphasizing the alignment of their strengths and competencies.

In closing, Agbe implores the Council of Elders to give serious attention to this petition and engage in an open dialogue to address the concerns raised, highlighting that the future success of the NDC depends on its ability to adapt, evolve, and effectively rectify shortcomings.

In response to another accusation related to his involvement with Afrah International Hospital, Dr. Omane Boamah clarifies his position. He states that he has never served as a Board Member or Practitioner in-charge at Afrah International Hospital. This information, he asserts, can be verified through official channels such as the Registrar General’s Department and the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency, which maintain records of such appointments.

Dr. Omane Boamah goes on to emphasize that he is neither a partner nor a shareholder of the hospital, confirming that his association with Afrah International Hospital has been limited to part-time medical practice, a fact that is publicly known.

He urges all parties to refrain from casting doubt on the professional integrity of medical practitioners and their practice, highlighting the importance of separating political affiliations from healthcare matters, as diseases do not discriminate based on political beliefs.

“It is important to clarify that I have never served as a Board Member or a Practitioner in-charge at Afrah International Hospital. That fact can be verified from the Registrar General’s Department and the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency, the official repositories of such information.

“For the avoidance of any doubt let me add that I am neither a partner nor a shareholder of the hospital.

“I have only practised medicine part-time at the Afrah International Hospital, a matter of public knowledge. Anyone who doubts this information can search for the truth from the regulatory bodies mentioned above.

“We must understand that disease does not discriminate based on political affiliations. It does not know NDC or NPP.

“I therefore urge all to refrain from impugning the professional integrity of medical practitioners and their practice.”

Trade Ministry to halt issuing permits to new factories manufacturing Portland cements

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has enacted a suspension on the issuance of permits for the establishment of new manufacturing and packaging facilities for Portland cement.

This directive, effective as of September 13, 2023, was communicated through a statement signed by the Minister of Trade and Industry, KT Hammond. The statement emphasizes that all procedures leading to the approval of such permits are on hold until further notice.

The ministry also instructed regulatory bodies to ensure strict compliance with this directive. However, the statement did not provide specific reasons for this decision.

“The Ministry of Trade and Industry hereby directs that effective 13th September 2023, No permits shall be granted or issued for the construction of new factories for the manufacture and bagging of cement.

“All processes leading to the granting of such permits are hereby suspended until further notice. Regulatory institutions are to take note for immediate release and compliance,” the Ministry said in its statement.

    About Ghana’s cement industry:

Cement is a fundamental component in civil engineering projects, and various grades of cement, such as 32.5R, 42.5R, and 52.5R, denote its strength.

Some of the prominent cement brands in the Ghanaian market include Ghana Cement (GHACEM), Western DIAMOND Cement (DIAMOND), CIMAF Cement, DANGOTE Cement, SUPACEM Cement, Dzata Cement, Savanna Cement, CBI Ghana Ltd, Xin An Safe Cement, and Wan Heng Ghana Ltd.

Due to the significant infrastructural development in Ghana, there has been a surge in cement demand, leading to the introduction of new cement products in the market. Some companies import cement products and package them in Ghana.

Notably, the Ghanaian government reportedly spends around $350 million annually to import approximately 85 percent of the raw materials required for cement production, with clinker and gypsum being the primary imports.

Research indicates that Portland cement is the most widely used type of cement globally.

Nigerian man arrested for stealing water meter in Nyanyano

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in Accra West, has detained a Nigerian man, Marvis Godwin on charges of stealing a water meter belonging to one of its customers in Nyanyano.

This incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, September 14, 2023, and is one of the many cases of meter theft that the GWCL confronts across the country.

The GWCL had previously reported the alarming trend of water meter and water connection material theft in the Dansoman, Nyanyano, and Kasoa operational areas back in March of the same year.

“In March this year, we reported in the media the alarming rate at which some members of the public were stealing water meters and water connection materials in our Dansoman, Nyanyano, and Kasoa operational areas,” GWCL said in a statement.

“The incidence went down drastically following the wide media attention it received, but it has risen its ugly head again. We have started recording cases of meter theft again and this time, we will not let the thieves go untouched.”

They noted that after widespread media coverage of the issue, the incidence had decreased significantly. However, it has resurfaced, prompting GWCL to take decisive action against these offenders.

Currently, Marvis Godwin is in police custody at the Kasoa Police Station and is scheduled to appear before the court on Friday, September 15, 2023.

GWCL is urging both customers and the general public to remain vigilant and report any individuals involved in such “dastardly acts” to the company or the police. They are committed to tackling meter theft and ensuring the integrity of their water distribution system.

Osenase receives library from First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo

The Osenase Community in the Lower West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region is now home to a new library, a significant achievement made possible through the dedicated efforts of the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and the generous support of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa).

This initiative is a crucial component of the Rebecca Foundation’s “Learning to Read, Reading to Learn” program.

The Osenase Library project represents the fourth completed library as part of a collaborative partnership between the Rebecca Foundation and the ASR Africa initiative.

Their joint commitment involves the construction of a total of twelve libraries in various communities across Ghana, as outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June 2021, which secured a grant of $500,000 to support educational initiatives of the foundation.

The overarching goal of this endeavor is to cultivate a culture of reading among schoolchildren by providing them with conducive environments, engaging, and relevant reading materials that enrich their knowledge. ASR Africa, an initiative spearheaded by Nigerian industrialist and philanthropist Abdul Samad Rabiu, is dedicated to contributing to the African continent’s well-being by promoting sustainable healthcare, education, and social development.

During the inauguration of this impressive library, Mrs. Akufo-Addo, who serves as the Executive Director of the Rebecca Foundation, encouraged traditional leaders and community elders to motivate their children to make effective use of this invaluable resource.

She expressed her excitement at witnessing the completion of this state-of-the-art library in Osenase, emphasizing that it represents a dream come true. She advised the children in the community and its surroundings to utilize the facility to enhance their future prospects.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo underscored that the “Learning to Read, Reading to Learn” initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education while promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. She extended her gratitude to the local chief, elders, residents of Osenase, the Member of Parliament for Lower West Akyem, Charles Acheampong, and the municipal assembly for their invaluable support in successfully completing the project.

She also revealed that the next libraries in line for completion will be located in Akropong and the Achimota School.

Children’s cancer research centre to be established in Asikam

A groundbreaking event marked the initiation of construction for a 100-bed international children’s cancer research center in Asikam near Kyebi, in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The ceremony involved the symbolic cutting of sod for this ambitious $250-million project, led by the Wish4life Foundation, focused on childhood cancer.

The center aims to enhance patient care by increasing bed capacity and ensuring high-quality medical services, with an estimated completion time of two years.

This initiative will unite skilled medical professionals from both local and international domains to elevate the treatment and support for childhood cancer patients across communities in Ghana and the broader West Africa sub-region.

The envisioned three-story facility will encompass essential facilities such as consultation rooms, wards, a cafeteria, a playroom, meeting spaces, a laboratory, washrooms, and more. It will also feature specialized wards, private rooms, counseling spaces, and treatment units.

Funding for this significant project will come from various donors, including financial institutions, Siemens Healthcare, Elekta, Milliman, Novartis, Bontobox, and Ofori Panin Fie.

As childhood cancer cases surge, this center is a crucial step toward addressing the pressing healthcare needs of these young patients. Driven by the Wish4life Foundation and its founder, Dr. Tanya Maria Trippett, a renowned Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist, this endeavor seeks to bridge healthcare disparities and ensure every child receives the necessary medical expertise, medicines, and support.

Dr. Trippett emphasized that globally, 160,000 children face a cancer diagnosis each year, underlining the importance of accessible treatment and care.

Tragically, 90,000 children lose their lives annually due to cancer, a significant portion being from resource-constrained nations. The existing hospitals already face an overwhelming number of childhood cancer cases daily, further underscoring the urgency of this initiative.

The center’s establishment will significantly alleviate the strain on current healthcare facilities and enhance the overall treatment environment for vulnerable young patients.

Acknowledging the vital role of early cancer detection in children, Dr. Trippett highlighted the necessity for a specific treatment environment due to the heightened vulnerability of these young patients.

She expressed gratitude to the community for their warm reception and called for collective support to assist children battling childhood cancer across the country.

Rob Fleming, the Project Manager of the International Children’s Cancer Research Center (ICCRC), reiterated the organization’s dedication to advocating for national attention towards childhood cancer.

He emphasized the center’s role in providing specialized medical services and enhancing the quality of care, with a focus on making healthcare more accessible and efficient for children and the broader population.

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, voiced immense joy at the establishment of this international children’s cancer research center, foreseeing significant benefits for children within his traditional domain.

He emphasized that while buildings and advanced medical equipment are crucial, the real healing comes from dedicated and qualified medical professionals committed to their duty of caring for these children battling cancer.

TVET can expedite national development – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the country, recognizing its potential to drive socioeconomic transformation and expedite national development.

He emphasized that recent years have seen significant progress in making TVET more responsive to the evolving demands of the workforce.

The President highlighted various policy initiatives aimed at strengthening TVET, including curriculum revisions, the provision of modern infrastructure and facilities, fostering collaboration with industries, ensuring quality assurance, and reshaping public perception and attitudes towards TVET.

As a result of these efforts, the longstanding challenges facing TVET are gradually being addressed, with a greater focus on emerging technologies, contemporary industry practices, and market requirements.

President Akufo-Addo’s remarks were delivered by the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, at the centenary celebration of the Mampong Technical College of Education (MAMTECH) in the Ashanti Region, under the theme “The role of technical and vocational education and training in the national development agenda.”

The event was attended by the Chief of Mampong, Daasebre Osei Bonsu, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Mampong, Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong, and former students of the college.

The President cited global examples such as Germany, Singapore, and the Asian Tigers to emphasize that TVET equips trainees with practical, hands-on skills that empower them to establish their own businesses, thereby creating employment opportunities.

Doris Boakye Ansah, the principal of the school, expressed pride in the college’s 100-year history of producing exceptional teachers and making significant contributions to Ghana’s development.

However, she also highlighted some challenges, including the need for an ultra-modern auditorium, financial clearance for critical staff recruitment, and the shortage of accommodation for teachers.

In honor of their centenary anniversary, the college aims to construct a 3,500-seat auditorium and called upon alumni and philanthropic individuals and organizations to support this initiative.

  • Re-electing Adwoa Safo for Dome-Kwabenya will have a toll on NPP – Constituency Executives

Re-electing Adwoa Safo for Dome-Kwabenya will have a toll on NPP – Constituency Executives

Several executives from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency have expressed doubts regarding the sincerity of Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo’s recent public apology.

Adwoa Safo, the former deputy Majority Leader, had faced criticism for her prolonged absence from parliament and chose to address the public through a video message, apologizing for her actions.

The General Secretary of the NPP in Dome-Kwabenya, Theophilus Larbi, has raised questions about the authenticity of her apology and has voiced concerns about her potential candidacy as the party’s parliamentary representative in the upcoming general elections.

Speaking on behalf of the constituency’s party leadership during an interview with the media, Mr Larbi stated, “If she has rendered an unqualified apology, who are we as humans to say we are not taking it, we have accepted her apology, but what does she want us to do for her after the apology? If she is interested in the seat again, then what I will say as a Constituency Secretary is that we are sorry.”

Mr Larbi further elaborated on the rationale behind their reservations, explaining, “The reason being that, we are the representation of the people in this constituency. The majority of the people say if we bring Hon Adwoa Safo back again, they will not vote for the party, and as a person and officer who means well for this party, I have to listen.”

Mr Larbi emphasized the discontent among residents regarding Adwoa Safo’s repeated absenteeism from parliament and her failure to maintain open lines of communication with her constituents.

He concluded, “The majority of people are not happy about what happened. She has apologized, severally, but I’m sorry, we have the men and women. As far as I’m concerned, it can no longer be Adwoa Safo. Dome Kwabenya cannot be represented by her”.

  • EC declining to disclose voter registration data to us – NDC alleges

EC declining to disclose voter registration data to us – NDC alleges

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of jeopardizing Ghana’s democracy through its actions during the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

In an interview with the media on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, Asiedu Nketiah alleged that the EC failed to provide political parties’ agents with the record of registered individuals before commencing the registration process, as required by procedure.

He emphasized that this omission meant that political parties had no means of verifying whether individuals had been registered prior to the official start of registration at the designated centers.

“You are coming to register voters, and we are requesting that you print out the data from the registration machines, so that we can ensure you are starting from scratch and haven’t registered individuals without the parties’ knowledge. Unfortunately, the EC has refused to do so. Consequently, we remain in the dark about whether people were registered before the official commencement of the registration exercise, leading to potential confusion,” he stated.

The NDC’s National Chairman also emphasized the importance of the EC learning from the experiences of countries like Cote d’Ivoire, where issues related to voter registration resulted in military takeovers.

In essence, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah expressed concern that the Electoral Commission’s actions during the limited voter registration exercise posed a significant risk to Ghana’s democracy, highlighting the importance of transparency and adherence to established procedures.

“They should go to Cote d’Ivoire and learn what led to the coup they experienced. The government refused to register just one person and this was what led to the coup. So, voter’s registration is not something to be joked with,” he added.
