  • Sarkodie believes Cina Soul’s voice could represent Ghana internationally

Sarkodie believes Cina Soul’s voice could represent Ghana internationally

Seven months ago, renowned rapper Sarkodie made a comment about Ghanaian songstress Cina Soul that has resurfaced online.

Earlier in the year, Sarkodie had expressed his admiration for Cina Soul’s boundless singing abilities during an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz 103.9 FM.

Sarkodie had also elaborated on his decision to collaborate with Cina Soul on one of the tracks from his ‘Jamz’ album, titled ‘Over Me,’ noting that he believed she possessed remarkable talent.

He further described Cina Soul’s voice as a representation of Ghana on the global stage, indicating his confidence in her potential for international recognition and success.

“I know she’s gonna get there. I don’t know which song [will take her there]. When I saw King Promise I knew. But I didn’t know how. But I knew he was gonna be huge. And Cina Soul has that approach,” he noted.

This development follows a recent statement from entertainment journalist and panelist Sally Mann, which was made on the music reality show “The Darling Factor” airing on Adom TV.

During her critique of a contestant who performed one of Cina Soul’s songs, Sally Mann advised the contestant not to emulate Cina Soul’s vocal style.

She further expressed her opinion that Cina Soul had received excessive acclaim and was, in her view, overrated.

“I don’t know if you wanted to sound like Cina Soul. But your vocal range is beautiful. You could have done it like the way you do it all the time.

Be yourself. There can only be only one Diana. That’s you, and your vocal ability is beautiful.  You didn’t need to sound like Cina Soul because for me I think Cina Soul is one person that has been overrated in Ghana,” she said.

Sally’s recent statement has stirred up significant controversy, sparking discussions across various social media platforms. While some individuals are criticizing her for characterizing Cina Soul as “overrated,” others view her opinion as harmless and valid.

In the midst of this discourse, Cina Soul has hinted at responding to Sally’s comment through a song. A teaser for the track titled ‘Plenty Evil’ was shared on Cina’s social media accounts on Sunday, September 17, 2023, and it begins with Sally’s ‘overrated’ remark. The song is set to be officially released on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

Cina Soul is recognized for her notable songs such as ‘Ojorley,’ ‘Feelings,’ ‘Die 4 You,’ ‘Killi Me,’ and more. In addition to her collaboration with Sarkodie on ‘Over Me,’ her performance on Akwaboah’s ‘Obiaa’ has earned her recognition and respect among her contemporaries.

  • Kumasi: This is how 22-year-old house help murdered his madam

Kumasi: This is how 22-year-old house help murdered his madam

New information has come to light regarding the tragic murder of an employer by her house help in Sokoban-Apaaso near Kumasi.

According to court records, John Allister secured employment as a house help just a day after applying through an Accra-based employment agency.

Shockingly, he is said to have committed the murder only six days into his new job.

Allister submitted his job application on September 4, 2023, and began working the following day, where he was assigned to the woman.

On September 11, 2023, around 11 am, shortly after the deceased had prepared and enjoyed a meal of fufu with the accused, she was brutally attacked. She was stabbed in the stomach and struck multiple times on the head and face with a club.

The accused allegedly took advantage of the absence of the deceased’s 11-year-old daughter, who was at school during the incident.

After committing the heinous act, Allister reportedly contacted two other individuals, James Anokye and one Collins, identified as the second and third accused persons.

They then fled the scene with a KIA Sportage vehicle (registration GS 307-21), a Samsung mobile phone, rice, cooking oil, and other valuable items.

The group escaped to Accra, where they made contact with a fourth accomplice named Biggy, who is currently at large. Biggy allegedly facilitated the sale of the stolen KIA Sportage vehicle to Christian Obu, a fifth accomplice who is also at large.

Allister used some of the proceeds from the sale of the stolen vehicle to purchase a Toyota Vitz car with registration number GS 3107-23.

While efforts were made to pursue the third, fourth, and fifth accomplices, the second accused, James Anokye, abandoned the KIA Sportage vehicle at Oyibi Police Station and fled.

Following a report to the police, a Crime Scene Management team discovered the body of the victim, Stella Osei, also known as Princess Afua Ahenkan, in the garage of her Apaaso home. A blood-stained club believed to have been used in the murder was also found at the crime scene on September 12, 2023.

An intelligence-led police operation led to the arrest of the first and second accused persons in their hideouts in Accra on September 14, 2023. Both individuals were subsequently escorted to Kumasi to face trial.

Prosecution, led by ASP Stephen Ofori, requested that the court release the KIA Sportage vehicle to the deceased’s husband, while a Toyota Vitz vehicle acquired with the proceeds from the crime is to be impounded by the police.

During his initial court appearance alongside accomplice James Anokye, 27, Allister John, 22, expressed acknowledgment of his involvement in the tragic murder of 35-year-old Stella Osei, known as Princess Afua Ahenkan.

Although the accused persons’ pleas were not formally recorded, the main suspect boldly signified his desire to address the court. He took responsibility for the crime and appealed for leniency before the Asokore Mampong District Court.

In an unexpected turn, he pleaded for the exoneration of the second accused, James Anokye, asserting that Anokye was not involved in the criminal act.

However, ASP Stephen Ofori, leading the prosecution, emphasized the necessity of adhering to due legal procedures in this murder case.

“This is a case of murder and the due process must be followed. Even though he has told the court that he admits whatever happened, the due process must be followed,” ASP Ofori stated to the media.

The deceased’s father-in-law, Yaw Yeboah, who was present during the court proceedings, expressed deep sorrow upon learning that five individuals were implicated in the murder.

He revealed the profound distress experienced by the deceased’s husband, based in the United Kingdom, who has been devastated by the brutal loss of his wife.

  • Ghana gears up to celebrate Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day

Ghana gears up to celebrate Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day

On Thursday, September 21, 2023, Ghana will observe Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, a statutory public holiday dedicated to honoring the birthday of Ghana’s inaugural President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Dr. Nkrumah was born on September 21, 1909, in Nkroful, near Axim in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region, then known as the Gold Coast and now as Ghana.

This year’s commemoration would have marked Dr. Nkrumah’s 114th birthday had he been alive on Thursday. In the past, this date was celebrated as Founder’s Day in remembrance of the man who steered the nation to independence, a significant milestone in the sub-region.

However, following the New Public Holidays Act, 2018, which amended the Public Holidays Act, 2001, September 21 is now observed as the birthday of Ghana’s first President.

This act replaced three public holidays, including September 21, and introduced two new holidays: January 7, celebrated as Constitution Day, and August 4, observed as Founders’ Day.

Various activities have been planned to mark this year’s celebration. Organizers, led by Hon Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region, have initiated a clean-up exercise in Nkroful’s main streets, the hometown of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, as part of the preparations.

Additionally, a soccer competition involving nine community teams at NASS Park will take place on Monday, September 18, 2023, to promote unity and readiness for the main event. On September 20, 2023, a light procession and a cake-cutting ceremony will be held, culminating in a midnight cake cutting session at Osagyefo’s mother’s residence.

The main event on September 21, 2023, will feature an SHS Symposium at NASS Yinsin Hall, focusing on the life of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, from his birth to the struggle for independence and his achievements as Ghana’s first President. The subsequent day, September 22, 2023, will witness the “Nkroful Goes Pink” event and a talent show, with a visit to tourist sites in Nkroful and a talent hunt show at Mausoleum Park.

The grand finale on September 23, 2023, will comprise a grand durbar and homecoming event at NASS Park, bringing together Chiefs, diplomats, and visitors to Nkroful. The day will feature a colorful procession of masquerades, dances, and cultural displays, followed by a musical stage honoring five music legends in Ghana. The event will conclude with a special Nzema food Bazaar.

The celebration is made possible with the support of Golden Empire Legacy Limited, Maaha Beach Resort, and The GEM Media.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, a politician, political theorist, and revolutionary, played a pivotal role in Ghana’s history. He became the first Prime Minister and President of Ghana, leading the nation to independence from British rule in 1957.

Dr. Nkrumah was a fervent advocate of Pan-Africanism and a founding member of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union (AU). His vision and dedication to self-governance continue to resonate, shaping Ghana’s place in the annals of Africa’s political liberation.

  • We are not conspiring with NPP to deprive Ghanaians of voting rights – EC

We are not conspiring with NPP to deprive Ghanaians of voting rights – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted allegations suggesting that it intends to deprive voters of their rights in the ongoing limited voter registration initiative.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) had accused the commission of deliberately complicating the registration process for first-time voters in their strongholds by dispatching faulty registration equipment to those regions.

Furthermore, the NDC leveled accusations of collusion between the EC and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in an attempt to disenfranchise eligible voters.

Contrary to these claims, the EC has dismissed them, clarifying that the issue of malfunctioning devices was a challenge faced uniformly across all 16 regions, except Savannah.

During a press conference, Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC, acknowledged the existence of challenges but firmly refuted the allegations, assuring the public that the registration process was proceeding smoothly.

She stated, “As a Commission, we are working tirelessly to ensure that every eligible voter can register with ease. We have heard accusations from various quarters about the Commission disenfranchising eligible voters, which is untrue.”

Mensa emphasized the Commission’s commitment to upholding international best practices in maintaining a credible voter register. She also addressed criticism concerning the decision to utilize the 268 district offices as registration centers, clarifying that the current exercise aimed to update the existing register and that a comprehensive registration took place in over 33,000 polling stations in 2020.

Additionally, the Commission clarified that restricting registration to its district offices would not result in voter disenfranchisement. They planned to conduct ongoing registration at district offices and conduct mop-up exercises in remote areas before the 2024 elections.

Mensa concluded by assuring, “It is important to note that this will not be the only registration exercise we will have before the 2024 elections.”

  • Fulani or Hausa ethnicity doesn’t negate Ghanaian identity – Mahama

Fulani or Hausa ethnicity doesn’t negate Ghanaian identity – Mahama

Former president, John Dramani Mahama has urged minority tribal communities facing nationality challenges to assert their rights during voter registration or any registration process.

Mahama emphasized that minority ethnic groups in Ghana, such as the Fulanis and Hausas, have made significant contributions to the nation’s formation and progress, deserving recognition as Ghanaians.

In a viral video on Sunday, September 17, 2023, the former president and the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 elections, expressed his view that it is unjust for officials from the Electoral Commission(EC) or any registration personnel to reject individuals solely based on their identification with these minority groups.

“… at that time there was no country called Ghana. The Fulanis brought cattle to sell, the Zambramas were here, the Gaos were here, the Mosis were here – everybody was here long before we knew there would be a country called Ghana.

“If you look at those who fought in the 2nd World War, go to Kumasi there is a memorial there, and read the names of those who went and fought and died. You would see all those different northern tribes, they all went and fought in the 2nd World War and at that time there was no country called Ghana,” he said.

The former president emphasized that every individual, regardless of their ethnic background, possesses the right to be acknowledged as a Ghanaian.

He further pointed out that the ancestors of these ethnic communities had been in Ghana long before the nation itself was established.

“As so today, when we have a country called Ghana, all of us make up that country. Ghana is a country united in diversity because it is the various ethnic groupings that make Ghana stronger

“… when it comes to registration and you mention your name and the ask who are you, you say ‘I’m a Fulani’. They would say oh, you are not a Ghanaian, we are challenging you. You say ‘Oh I’m a Hausa’, you are from northern Nigeria. Everybody in this country came from somewhere, we all migrated and came,” he said.

Murder at Anwiankwantah: Police pick up suspect

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has taken an individual into custody in connection with the tragic death of 18-year-old Georgina Agyemang in Anwiankwantah, within the Bekwai Municipality.

The lifeless body of the victim was discovered partially unclothed on a Saturday afternoon, inside an unfinished building just a short distance from her sister’s residence. The unsettling condition in which her body was found has raised suspicions of strangulation and sexual assault.

In an interview with the media, Nana Kwarteng Amoaninn III, an uncle of the deceased, firmly asserted that the young lady met her demise at a different location before being transported to the aforementioned building.

The family has reported the incident to the police and anticipates a thorough investigation.

He emphasized, “After that, the Police must communicate its findings to the family.” Additionally, the family discovered some of the victim’s personal items at the scene, including her phone charger, a purse containing GHS150, adhesive, and an umbrella.

Meanwhile, Frank Akowuah, the Assembly member for the Anwiankwantah Electoral Area, has called for increased security measures in the vicinity. He noted that residents are living in fear, with some even relocating due to a series of unsolved killings in the area.

He urged the security services to collaborate with community members to ensure the safety of citizens, suggesting the establishment of community volunteers to support the police in their efforts. Akowuah stressed that citizen involvement is crucial in augmenting the capabilities of law enforcement agencies.

“About three months ago the same incident happened where a three-month-old baby was killed and we have a town around Anwiankwanta called Behinase, the same incident happened over there. A mother and her baby were both killed. So it has been occurring, this is something that we have to find a solution to.

“Since yesterday, people have started moving from the area to the main town because of what has happened. They are in fear that it will happen again. Those who have rented rooms over here are moving.”

He is therefore asking the security services to work with community members to protect the lives of citizens.

“For the security services, I have told them that in Ghana we don’t meet the world standard so they alone cannot protect the citizens, we have to help them. We need to establish community volunteers that will support the police than giving all our security to the police. So what the police is doing is ok, but we the citizens must help them so that the volunteers will protect the citizens.”

Nungua-Baatsona Filling Station: Fatal car crash claims two lives

Residents near the Nungua-Baatsona Filling Station area were met with a horrific scene as they woke up to the aftermath of a fatal car crash that claimed the lives of two individuals.

According to an eyewitness report, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 18, 2023, at approximately 3:00 am.

A speeding Mercedes Benz, carrying four occupants, collided with a stationary KIA truck that had been parked by the side of the road in the vicinity.

The eyewitness further explained that the KIA truck had been left in front of the Shell Filling Station on the Nungua-Baatsonaa stretch since Friday, September 15, due to a malfunctioning front tire.

The driver had used a jack to support the vehicle and left it in that location.

In a video capturing the accident scene, the eyewitness mentioned that the occupants of the Mercedes Benz were known for frequently using the road at high speeds, and this tragic collision had fatal consequences.

Additionally, the eyewitness noted that among the victims of the accident were two Ghanaians and two Nigerians who had nearly collided with him earlier while driving recklessly.

“The truck you are seeing over here was packed there three days ago. So, I just heard a loud bang around 3-5 a.m. this morning. When I came out, the Benz was coming from the Ecobank direction and these people; they are two male Nigerians and two female Ghanaians; they usually drive on top speed on this road after drinking. They almost knocked me down three days ago when I was going to Dansoman.

“It happens that they didn’t know about the spoilt truck so when the driver of the Benz realised it, he sharply swerved but crashed into the truck with passenger side and that killed a man and woman. The driver and one other lady, however, survived but in a critical condition,” the eyewitness narrated.

“Under my leadership as President of Ghana, KNUST will lead in everything engineering and technology. It will be the IT hub of Ghana just like Silicon Valley is to the US”, he said.

“You have the Suame Magazine here but what has been the linkage between the University and the Magazine?… Under my leadership as President of Ghana, KNUST and Suame Magazine will manufacture and assemble automobiles right here in Kumasi”.

“I will give our educated young ones reasons to stay in Ghana. We can do it and KNUST can lead in the charge of industrial and engineering innovation. We have all that it takes to make it work and I am the leader that has the willpower to materialize this dream”, he added.

Mr Agyapong’s goal is to provide educated youth with compelling reasons to remain in Ghana and contribute to the nation’s technological and industrial advancement.

“I will build my Presidency on the three pillars you’ve already heard me talk about. I am coming in strong on Patriotism, Honesty, and Discipline (PHD) and developing Ghana based on the Agric, Technology, and Tourism sectors.

“We can do it and make it happen here. The Asian miracle is there for us to follow and that is what I will be using so I am asking all here to help me in this course”

“Write articles, tell your clientele about my vision, and encourage all to come on board to make Ghana work again. Ghana first it shall be for us all”, Kennedy Agyapong told the lecturers.

The Minister of Trade and Industry, KT Hammond at the Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition 2023 on September 18, revealed that the government’s One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) policy has 126 operational projects at present.

He further disclosed that approximately 300 established companies are currently in various stages of development and completion, actively participating in the supply chain.

KT Hammond highlighted the substantial impact of the 1D1F initiative on job creation, emphasizing that over 160,000 direct and indirect jobs have been generated as a result of this significant push for investment and industrialization.

He pointed out that more than 60% of the companies operating under this initiative fall under his ministry and are implementing similar programs, contributing significantly to employment generation.

“Over 60% of the companies under the One-District-One Factory initiative operating under my ministry, are developing all, implementing similar programmes, which account for the bulk of their employment creation impact. As a result of this massive push for investment, and industrialisation, so far, about 300 1D1F projects are at various stages of implementation and over 160,000 direct and indirect jobs have been created.

He specifically noted that 58 of the 1D1F projects are fully owned by youth groups in the country. These projects, located in 58 respective districts, are involved in various agro-based processing activities, including rice, maize, ginger, bamboo, cassava, and mushroom processing.

“Out of about 143 1D1F projects in various stages of construction and plant acquisition, 58 are fully owned by the youth groups who have been mobilised to establish agro-based processing factories in the 58 respective districts. EC and NPP conspiring to deprive Ghanaians of voting rights – Agbodza

The Minority Chief Whip, Governs Agbodza, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of intentionally creating difficulties in the limited voter registration exercise held at its district offices.

Agbodza claims that the EC is collaborating with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to facilitate the introduction of a Constitutional Instrument (CI) in Parliament. This CI would authorize the use of the Ghana Card as the exclusive registration document for the 2024 general elections.

The EC has faced widespread backlash from various political parties, civil society organizations, and the public for insisting on conducting the limited voter registration exercise solely at its district offices.

Speaking to the media, Mr Agbodza emphasized that the EC’s decision is in line with their objective to establish the Ghana Card as the sole prerequisite for participating in the upcoming general elections.

“We cannot wish the democracy we have to work for all of us but everybody in this country knows the reason the EC is doing this is to create a situation where it is difficult for ordinary people to register so they can come back and say they are using the Ghana Card as the only source document for registration and it is quite clear the Electoral Commissioner who is supposed to be a fair player is in cahoot with the New Patriotic Party,” Agbodza said.

“You will notice that the NPP is not even bothered about the exercise that much simply because they know they have a plan…so don’t be surprised that they will come back to Parliament pretending that they are bringing a CI to make the Ghana Card the only source document when they know it is difficult to get the Ghana Card.”

A lawyer and Senior Vice President of IMANI-Africa, Kofi Bentil, has stated that the actions taken by the Electoral Commission (EC) in the ongoing voter registration process appear is aimed at depriving many Ghanaians of their voting rights.

He argued that the EC has a constitutional duty to expand and carry out specific programs and possesses the necessary resources to fulfill this obligation.

Bentil pointed out that deviating from this constitutional mandate could potentially result in the removal of Electoral Commissioners from their positions.

Speaking to the media on a Saturday, he clarified that the issue goes beyond neglecting responsibilities; it also involves actively obstructing people’s right to register.

“In omission and commission, it’s not a matter of just omitting, like they are not doing anything; the suggestion is that there will be problems with people exercising their rights to register,” he explained.

According to Bentil, the primary purpose of the EC is to address obstacles and facilitate the voter registration process, and therefore, they should proactively implement measures to enhance the exercise.

He emphasized, “The EC was set up to take away those problems, clear the way, and create situations that will enable people to register. So they should actually do things, commit actions that will expand registration.”

Bentil maintained that, in this case, if the EC is not doing this at all, then they are neglecting their duty, but as he sees it, they are actually taking steps and committing actions to prevent people from registering, which directly contradicts their mandated role.

He also criticized the utilization of state resources to undermine public policy objectives, stating, “We should all be mindful when we do some of these things.”

Bentil’s comments come after the EC’s announcement that the voter registration exercise would only occur at its district offices across the country, a decision that has faced opposition from many political parties, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC)

and four other parties who have sued the EC over its insistence on conducting the limited voter registration exercise in this manner. These parties argue that the decision could disenfranchise eligible voters and have taken the matter to the Supreme Court.

Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has pointed out that he has faced similar bullying from both his industry peers and online Nigerians, akin to the harassment late singer Mohbad experienced before his demise.

Taking to his Instagram page on a Sunday, the talented actor emphasized that those currently clamoring for justice on behalf of Mohbad were the very individuals who had relentlessly harassed him for an entire year due to his choice to marry another woman.

In a candid call-out to his fellow colleagues, Yul called attention to the fact that none of them had stepped forward to defend him during the extended period of incessant bullying and insults he had endured.

In a heartfelt series of tweets posted on Sunday, Bella Shmurda revealed that he has been haunted by the lingering presence of Mohbad’s spirit since the rapper’s unexpected passing last Tuesday.

“For the past few days now, I have been deliberating on what to do while waiting for the authorities of the Nigerian police to at least get one or people involved in maltreatment and malicious act towards Mohbad.

“Since he died his spirit has not left me – saying a lot of things in my head, pointing hands to people that need to be dealt with in my dreams.”

Bella also asserted that Mohbad had filed numerous complaints against individuals who were harassing him. He went on to criticize the Nigerian Police Force for what he deemed as nepotism and an indifferent attitude towards the issue.

In a petition dated June 27, 2023, the late Mohbad had alleged that a group of 15 individuals, including music promoter Sam Larry, had arrived armed at the location of a music video shoot, where he and fellow artist Omoniyi Temidayo, known as Zlatan Ibile, were working. They reportedly threatened to cause harm.

However, when questioned by a PUNCH correspondent on Thursday night, the Police Public Relations Officer of FCID Annex in Lagos, Oluniyi Ogundeyi, disclosed that the police were unable to take action on the petition because Mohbad had declined to step forward, adopt the complaint, provide a defense, or furnish supporting evidence for the accusations he had made.

  • Who killed Mohbad?

    Who killed Mohbad?

That seems to be the question bugging the minds of many concerned citizens as the Nigerian Police swings into investigation following the death of singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The force in a statement promised to carry out diligent investigation following outcry over the death of the afrobeats artiste. The promising singer, songwriter sadly passed on Tuesday September 12, 2023, aged 27.

In the statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, it averred that the force is committed to a comprehensive investigation into the matter as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has been tasked to unravel the circumstance surrounding his death. The force stated that it understands the concerns regarding his untimely demise.

“Rest assured, updates will be provided as investigations unfold,” the statement partly reads,” while encouraging members or close associates with valuable information to approach the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to assist in the process.

“In the meantime, we kindly request that individuals refrain from making statements or engaging in activities that could jeopardize the ongoing investigation,” it added. The Lagos State Police command in a separate forum said the corpse of the late singer would be exhumed for autopsy to aid investigation into the cause of his death, if it is necessary.

The cause of his death has been a subject of controversy since the tragic incident. Speaking during an Instagram live session on Thursday night, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police would probe to know the cause of Mohbad’s death.

A couple of names had allegedly been mentioned relating to the death of the Ikorodu born Mohbad.Among whom are his estranged record label lead, Afeez Fashola, aka Naira Marly and a music promoter, Samson Balogun, popular as Sam Larry.

Meanwhile, amid the controversies surrounding the death of Mohbad, the Elegushi Royal Family of Eti-Osa, Lagos State, distanced their family from the embattled Sam Larry. The Elegushi family last Thursday made their stance known in a statement released by the Palace, in which the Royal Family denounced any alliance with the music promoter.

“The Elegushi Royal Family of Eti-Osa wishes to put on record the misinformation on the media space involving Samson Erinfolami Balogun (AKA Sam Larry).  Samson Balogun is not a member of the royal family and does not work for the royal family or king in any capacity.“Like other celebrities, politicians, religious and community leaders, he visits the palace to pay homage to the king and seek royal blessings just like other members of the public.

While expressing our condolences to the family and friends of late Ilerioluwa Aloba (known as MohBad) we would like to add our voices to the calls for a thorough investigation into circumstances surrounding his death, with a view to unravel any foul play.

We ask our friends in the media to be mindful of the sensitivity of the issue and desist from spreading falsehood that may jeopardise the investigation.”

This is coming after a petition by the late singer surfaced online, where the deceased alleged threat to life, malicious damage, assault, and oppression, among others, against Sam Larry and others, in a petition to the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Lagos State.

Also in a video circulating online, Mohbad, whose remains were hurriedly laid to rest last Wednesday, was seen being assaulted by some people allegedly led by Sam Larry during a video shoot.

In the video, Mohbad and another afrobeats artiste, Omoniyi Temidayo aka Zlatan Ibile, were on set of a music video when the said Sam Larry stormed the scene with some boys targeting the late singer who was heard talking.

The video left many Nigerians on social media furious as they stormed Larry’s Instagram page to attack him for bullying and threatening the late singer. However, in the petition, dated June 27, 2023, the late singer had urged the Nigeria Police Force to protect him from Sam Larry and his team, comprising 15 others.

The petition, titled, ‘Petition of threat to life, malicious damage of properties valued at the sum of Five Million Naira, assault occasioning harm, oppression and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace against Sam Larry Elegushi, Elele, Obele and others’, was addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon in Ikoyi, Lagos.

In the petition, Mohbad alleged that Sam Larry and others all armed stormed the venue of a video shoot where him and Zlatan Ibile, were working; and threatened to wreak havoc. He added that they eventually destroyed equipment worth over N5 million at the scene, and assaulted him (Mohbad) before he narrowly escaped after sustaining injuries.

The outpouring of emotion since his death was confirmed has been overwhelming. A dream cut short. Allegedly bullied by his former label mates, Naira Marley, Zinoleski and others, and attacked a number of times. That was enough to make him depressed.

But the afro-pop star always responded the only way he knew with music, troubled at many turns. He waxed lyrically about his challenge. One can tell he had premonition of his death.Contrary to speculations in the music industry, Mohbad’s wife Wunmi had opened up on the late singer’s lifestyle as she revealed he lived in fear till the end.

Wunmi, who has a baby boy with Mohbad, said upon the birth of their son, the singer was constantly worried for their lives and wanted them to leave the country. The late 27 years old singer’s wife revealed he wanted to face his fight alone as she suggested some individuals were behind Mohbad’s death.

“He struggled till death, too many pains, threatening, he has always lived with fear, continuous fights everywhere he goes too, he has never been happy for a whole day,” she revealed in a post. She also debunked the reports of him battling mental issues. “He was called a junkie, a mad person, mental issue so the public would have another view about him.

He’s dead at least you all won, take your trophy. Y’all made me a widow at 24 years,” Mohbad’s wife sadly wrote. The death of the famous Nigerian singer continues to stir emotions and reactions online as more details about his passing emerge.

Good the Nigerian Police Force has commenced investigation. As someone rightly noted, “The public outpouring of grief in reaction to his passing speaks to the recognizable beam of light that the singer and rapper projected to the world during a memorable 27-year stint on earth. For the last five years, street-pop, a sub-genre of Afropop defined by its existential lyricism and hard-knock tales of beating the odds has been on a propulsive rise. Mohbad was at the very center of that wave.“

Thanks to a recognizable baritone-tinged voice, his raspy delivery style, and a stellar grasp of language, Mohbad was among a group of Ikorodu-born stars who constituted street-pop’s second generation and brought the angst and insecurities of inner-city kids to the wider world via music.

What truly set Mohbad apart from his peers, even at the beginning was an utter conviction that he had a message to share with the world.

”In between dropping street hits like ‘Ronaldo’ and ‘Mi O Foh’ in 2019, he released ‘Imole,’ a soul-tinged rap-sung declaration of intent that contained the line, “Imole ni mi/ mo de fe tan kari aye” which translates to ‘I’m the light and I want to shine all over the world.’

A deal signed with Naira Marley’s Marlian Records later same year was supposed to facilitate those global aspirations and set the stage for Mohbad’s light to touch the universe.

Akufo-Addo has betrayed us, he promised to fix our poor roads in 2020 – Residents of Kutukrom

Concerned residents of Kutukrom, located in the Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira constituency of the Western Region, have voiced their disappointment with the Akufo-Addo-led government for neglecting their community.

They conveyed their grievances in an interview with the media.

The Kutukrom to Prestea road has been in a state of disrepair for many years, with no commercial vehicles traversing it for over four months.

The only means of transportation to Kutukrom is by motorbike, commonly referred to as “okada.”

In 2020, president Akufo-Addo and his roads minister visited the area to symbolically commence the reconstruction of the road network from Kutukrom to Prestea.

However, according to report, no progress has been made on the road.

The residents of Kutukrom, have expressed their frustrations, stating, “We are suffering here, and today, you’ve been drenched by the rain. It seems like we are not part of Ghana; they don’t care about us at all.”

“We were here in 2020 when President Akufo-Addo and his team came to cut the sod for the road construction to Prestea.

“President Akufo-Addo and his government have neglected us. Look at our road; we are calling on President Akufo-Addo to visit again and experience our terrible road network. They should consider us as human beings because we are suffering,” they emphasized.

In response, Kofi Arko Nokoe, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, revealed that he has been consistently reminding the government to fulfill its 2020 pledge.

He expressed his disappointment in President Akufo-Addo for abandoning the road network from Kutukrom to Prestea.

Mr Nokoe said, “It’s a shame that President Akufo-Addo has taken the good people of Kutukrom for granted. Due to the current state of the roads, no car can reach Kutukrom, and my constituents rely on motorbikes, known as Okada, for their daily activities. It’s very unfortunate. I recall summoning the roads minister to Parliament over the poor roads in the Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira constituency, and his assurances were not accepted by my constituents.”

He also pointed out that, “since president Akufo-Addo assumed office, not a single kilometer of road network in the Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira constituency has been paved, despite the significant cocoa production in my constituency.”

Nokoe pledged to work with the residents of Kutukrom to address the deplorable Kutukrom to Prestea road.

Kutukrom, the largest and most populated community in the northern part of the Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira constituency, is known for its abundant resources, including cocoa, rubber, cassava, plantain, and yam, among others.

The victim was identified as the wife of the son of legendary Ghanaian footballer, Reverend Osei Kofi.

Samson Kwame Nyamekye, Peace FM’s Ashanti regional correspondent, confirmed the arrest during an Evening News broadcast on September 14, 2023.

Nyamekye reported that John Allister, aged 22, is now in police custody, cooperating with the ongoing investigations.

On Friday, while she was in conversation with a friend, the friend suddenly heard her scream that she had been stabbed. The phone went silent, and her number went inactive. So, the next day, the friend sent a police team to the house in Kumasi,” he narrated.

Dan Kwaku Yeboah continued to describe the crime scene and the condition of the house when the police and the concerned friend arrived at the scene.

“Upon reaching the house, they discovered that the dog in the house had been released, and the lady’s body was found in the garage. The car in the garage had been driven away by the house help,” he reported.

Removing IGP from his position will have a dire impact on Ghana – Kennedy Agyapong

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has cautioned the Akufo-Addo-led administration against the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

In an interview with the media on Monday, September 18, 2023, Mr Agyapong asserted that there would be no valid reason for replacing Dr. Dampare citing the remarkable performance he has displayed during his tenure.

As the head of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defense and Interior, Agyapong, who is also a flagbearer hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasized that Dr. Dampare is the best IGP he has witnessed.

He cautioned against making the error of removing him, highlighting Dr. Dampare’s achievements in reducing armed robbery rates, enhancing the police headquarters, and maintaining a clean and aesthetically pleasing environment.

Mr Agyapong’s remarks were made in response to discussions regarding a leaked tape that allegedly revealed a plot to oust IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

In the video, a retiring Police Commissioner, self-identified as Mensah, and Bugri Naabu were heard deliberating the removal of Dr. Dampare due to concerns that he might enforce strict measures during the 2024 elections.

The Police Commissioner contended that Dr. Dampare’s commitment to fairness and preventing electoral irregularities could hinder their political interests.

Mr Agyapong further mentioned that the IGP had been summoned by a parliamentary committee investigating the leaked tape, as two police officers involved in the recording made allegations against him.

These officers accused Dr. Dampare of conspiring with Burgi Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, to create the video and criticized his leadership style as autocratic.

  • NDC did better than NPP is doing – Minority to Ofori-Atta

NDC did better than NPP is doing – Minority to Ofori-Atta

The Minority caucus, has responded to Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta’s allegations against the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

Mr Ofori-Atta had accused the NDC of derailing an International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

In an article, Mr Ofori-Atta stated that upon assuming power in 2017, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government inherited what he described as a ‘derailed IMF programme’ and a severely compromised financial industry from the NDC.

This article came in the midst of ongoing calls by the Minority for the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), citing mismanagement of the Central Bank.

Moreover, Ofori-Atta used his article to rally support for the construction of a new, suitable office for the BoG.

“The Minister of Finance should not say anywhere again that the NDC administration left behind a derailed IMF programme. Clearly, at the time we were leaving office, there was no monetary finance. For the first time in the history of Ghana, the government did not take money from the central bank even though the law allowed the then administration to take 5% of the previous year’s revenue from the central bank.”

“The people of Ghana would recall that because the Mahama administration left behind a robust economy, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government within the first three months of its assumption of office was able to borrow US$2.25 billion from Franklin Templeton”.

In response, Minority Leader Ato Forson released a statement countering Ofori-Atta’s claims and asserting that the Mahama administration had left a robust economy. He emphasized that during their tenure, they did not resort to monetary finance and had a strong fiscal position. Forson highlighted their ability to borrow a substantial amount from Franklin Templeton shortly after handing over to the NPP government.

Forson passionately argued that the NDC’s performance in governance was superior to the current administration. He expressed confidence in the NDC’s potential to govern effectively and hinted at the upcoming elections in 2025.

He concluded by asserting that history will remember Ofori-Atta for steering Ghana towards the IMF, employing strong imagery of an ambulance.

Mr Forson reiterated the call for the resignation of the BoG Governor and implied that both Ofori-Atta and Governor Addison would be held accountable for what the Minority perceives as economic mismanagement.

“We did better than they are doing and the NDC will always do better when the good people of Ghana give John Mahama and our party the opportunity to govern from January 2025. Finally, the Minority in Parliament wishes to remind Governor Addison and Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta that the day of reckoning is very near and they will be held accountable for their collective mess,” he said.

“History will remember this Minister of Finance and the government’s Economic Mismanagement Team headed by Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia for taking Ghana to the IMF in an ambulance”.

Adwoa Safo, Agyeman Manu, Ofori Atta, Roads Minister, should’ve been fired long ago – Dan Kweku Yeboah

Sports Journalist, Dan Kweku Yeboah has stated that the Ghanaian populace is dissatisfied with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration due to President Akufo-Addo’s lack of decisiveness in handling issues.

Speaking to the media, he emphasized that Ghanaians could have celebrated President Akufo-Addo’s achievements, but his failure to hold certain Ministers accountable has tarnished his reputation.

He stated, “The government is facing these challenges because President Akufo-Addo couldn’t take decisive action with some of his Ministers. People are frustrated with the ruling government due to the conduct of certain Ministers.”

He specifically criticized Health Minister Adwoa Safo, Roads Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, stating that they have not met the expected standards for their roles.

He further elaborated, “For instance, the Roads Minister should have been replaced a long time ago. How can he propose charging for the use of modernized toilets? The Finance Minister should have been replaced as well. When a pastor mismanages funds, we don’t dissolve the entire church; we bring in a new pastor. As for the Health Minister, we all witnessed the issues after Covid-19. He claimed that equipment at Kotoka International Airport disappeared, and the Auditor General’s report revealed questionable land purchases in the Volta Region for millions of dollars. Yet, how much does land cost in East Legon?”

His comments align with the apology issued by Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Adwoa Safo, to her constituents.

Adwoa Safo had issued a sincere and unconditional apology to her party in a brief two-minute video posted on her Facebook page.

She stated, “I was facing personal challenges as a mother and a woman. I want to take this opportunity to ask for your forgiveness for any actions on my part that may have tarnished the party’s reputation. As the saying goes, ‘To err is human, and to forgive is divine.’ I seek your forgiveness.”

However, the sports journalist maintained that, under normal circumstances, both the NPP party and the government should have taken action to remove Adwoa Safo from Parliament much earlier, as “wrong is wrong, and right is right.” He believed that her apology at this point came too late.

EC’s registration modalities must be reviewed – NDC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has faced accusations from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in voter suppression. This allegation stems from the EC’s choice to conduct limited voter registration solely at district offices, a decision the NDC deems suboptimal.

As the voter registration enters its sixth day today, on September 18, many individuals have raised concerns about various challenges they have encountered.

The Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the NDC, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, has expressed dissatisfaction with the EC’s handling of the situation, stating that it is exacerbating the issues.

There is growing pressure on the Electoral Commission (EC) to reconsider and adjust its procedures for the ongoing voter registration exercise. Dr. Adomako Kissi, Member of Parliament for Anyaa–Sowutuom, has also criticized the decision to restrict registration to district offices, arguing that it is not the most suitable approach.

In contrast, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has expressed satisfaction with the progress made during the first week of the limited voter registration.

The Electoral Commission commenced the registration process on Tuesday, September 12, with the goal of enrolling first-time voters who have yet to obtain their Voter ID cards.

Despite opposition from the NDC and some civil society organizations, the registration continues to take place at district offices of the electoral commission throughout the country.

Be warned, Apollo is on the rise – GHS to public

Ghanaians have been encouraged to adopt a regular handwashing routine as a preventive measure against the rising cases of Acute Hemorrhagic Conjunctivitis, commonly known as Apollo.

At the Police Hospital’s eye clinic, over 50% of reported eye cases have been linked to Apollo, and health authorities are sounding the alarm about its rapid spread across all 16 regions.

Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, the Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service in an interview with the media, emphasized the importance of refraining from touching one’s eyes and advocated for the promotion of frequent handwashing.

“This is about prevention, how do we ensure that people avoid touching their eyes, and we need to also promote handwashing,” he added.

Acute Hemorrhagic Conjunctivitis, or Apollo, is a severe form of viral pink eye characterized by symptoms such as eyelid swelling, eye discharge, and bleeding. While there is no cure, treatments can help manage the symptoms until the virus clears.

Conjunctivitis, commonly known as “pink eye,” involves inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin membrane covering the eyeball and inner eyelid. This inflammation typically results from an infection, allergen exposure, or toxin contact. Some viruses can lead to a specific type of conjunctivitis known as Acute Hemorrhagic Conjunctivitis (AHC).

In certain parts of West Africa, AHC is colloquially referred to as “Apollo 11 disease” because it was first discovered in Ghana in 1969, coinciding with the year of the moon landing.

AHC is notably more severe than other forms of conjunctivitis and may manifest with painful swelling and noticeable bleeding in and around the eye.

Producers, presenters must sieve through when selecting Showbiz pundits – Francis Doku

Media consultant, Francis Doku has stated that selecting entertainment pundits and guests for TV and radio shows must be done carefully.

During a Twitter Space discussion, he stressed the importance of intelligent, qualified individuals discussing relevant topics to meet the audience’s expectations.

Mr Doku emphasized that choosing pundits should prioritize expertise and trustworthiness over mere ratings or entertainment value.

He advocated for a selection process based on specific criteria to ensure that pundits meet the necessary qualifications.

“Don’t invite just anyone on air. Many individuals lacking punditry credentials present themselves as experts,” he cautioned.

Furthermore, Doku encouraged continuous learning and professional development among pundits to enhance their knowledge and credibility within their respective fields.

“Pundits should strive for self-improvement to gain a deeper understanding of their field,” he advises.

Mr Doku’s insights contribute to ongoing discussions about improving the Ghanaian entertainment industry for the benefit of all stakeholders.

“Don’t allow just anybody on air. A lot of people who lack what it takes to be pundits go on shows and parade themselves as pundits. “There must be a criteria and they need to meet that. Producers, presenters must sieve through to see who meets what.” he said.

Enhance your talent with added value and expertise – Adjetey Anang

Veteran Ghanaian actor, Adjetey Anang, has offered valuable advice to aspiring young creatives, particularly those in the acting realm, emphasizing that relying solely on talent is insufficient for achieving the pinnacle of success in their careers.

During an exclusive interview with the media, the “Things We Do for Love” actor conveyed the notion that talent in its raw form, though a natural endowment, necessitates further refinement to reach its full potential.

“You need to add value to your talent, talent is raw, it’s just nature’s gift m, so it has to be refined,” he said.

Adjetey stressed the importance of augmenting one’s talent by acquiring and honing relevant skills to enhance its impact and utility.

“Raw talent on its own can only take you to a certain level, you can not go beyond that but the skill has enough ways through which one can ride on to the top” he added.

Drawing from personal experience, Adjetey recounted a poignant moment where he learned the hard way about the perils of relying solely on talent. He vividly described an instance early in his career when he found himself unprepared and blank on stage, highlighting the necessity of adequate preparation and skill development for a flourishing career in acting.

My prophecies are not doom, I say what God reveals – Nigel Gasie

Founder of True Word Prophetic Fire Ministries (Grace Chapel), Prophet Nigel Gaisie, has stated that he does not employ doom prophecies to gain fame.

He strongly affirmed that he only conveys what he hears from God.

Speaking to the media, Prophet Gaisie expressed frustration over allegations that he uses such prophecies for publicity.

“I didn’t become who I am today because my prophecies get national attention. It is a gift God has blessed me with. When I see something, I say it. I have been on radio for the past 14 years and TV as well, so it will be wrong for anyone to assume that I’m riding on doom prophecies just to be popular or attach it to my popularity now,” he explained.

He clarified that his current standing and reputation were not built on gaining national attention through prophecies but are a result of the God-given gift he possesses.

He emphasized that when he receives a revelation, he speaks it.

He mentioned his extensive experience in the media industry, having been on radio for the past 14 years and on television as well. He urged against assuming that he rides on doom prophecies to enhance his popularity.

Prophet Gaisie highlighted a tendency in Ghana to undervalue local prophets while holding prophets from other countries in higher regard. He emphasized that Ghanaian prophecies deserve attention and respect similar to prophecies from prophets of other nations.

The prophet also expressed his concerns about a disrespectful statement made by one of the panellists on the show. He revealed that continuous disrespect has led him to decline media interviews, highlighting the need for respectful discourse.

Prophet Nigel Gaisie’s comments followed sentiments expressed regarding prophecies made about an individual he refers to as “Sherif Black,” as well as prophecies concerning Ghanaian celebrities, including musician Wendy Shay, who was recently involved in a near-fatal accident.

“If there is a prophecy from Ghana, we do not value it, but when it is from another prophet from a different country, we pay attention to it,” he pointed out.

“In the name of speaking my mind, people disrespect you by saying anything and talking anyhow to you,” he added.

  • Sakawa boys are the most sensible people in Ghana – Wanlov the Kubolor

Sakawa boys are the most sensible people in Ghana – Wanlov the Kubolor

Ghanaian musician, Wanlov the Kubolor, has presented the perspective that ‘Sakawa boys’, often linked with cybercrime are unrecognized individuals contributing to Ghana’s development.

He asserted that, despite their controversial activities, some of these individuals make meaningful contributions to their families and communities, a claim he contrasts with some politicians.

Wanlov, in an interview with the media acknowledged that Sakawa boys are commonly viewed as criminals.

“For me, the most sensible people in Ghana are the Sakawa boys. They are the only people who are helping Ghana or their family or somebody. Yes, they are seen as criminals but they are taking resources that have been generated in the west and they are using it on themselves, their immediate families and their community,” he said.

However, he highlighted that they acquire resources from the West and reinvest them into their immediate families and communities.

He contends that Sakawa boys, despite their criminal label, might be among the most sensible individuals in Ghana due to their financial contributions locally.

He compares this with politicians who borrow money from international institutions without clear plans for repayment, essentially burdening ordinary Ghanaian citizens.

Wanlov argues that such politicians are effectively stealing from the people of Ghana, as these debts ultimately translate into financial burdens for the citizens.

He further emphasizes that Sakawa boys, on the other hand, are not stealing from anyone in Ghana, but rather utilizing resources obtained from abroad for local benefits.

While this perspective challenges conventional views, it’s essential to consider the broader societal and ethical implications of criminal activities and the context in which such actions occur.

“But what is more criminal than a politician going to IMF to borrow money that they know they will never pay? They don’t have to pay and they will use it for their own personal things that Ghanaians will come and pay for one day. They are not stealing from the west, they are stealing from Ghanaians, because the money that the west will come and take from Ghanaians who owe IMF will be five times more than what these ministers are borrowing.

“So these ministers are stealing from us by borrowing? Who in Ghana are the Sakawa boys stealing from? They’re not stealing from anybody in Ghana. So the real criminals are these politicians,” he argued.

Keep dancing on Snapchat while we seek justice – Tonto Dikeh to Naira Marley

Popular Nollywood actress and politician, Tonto Dikeh, has condemned singer and music executive, Naira Marley, for his recent statements regarding the death of his former signee, Mohbad.

Naira Marley had broken his silence on Mohbad’s death days after posting a heartbreak emoji on his Instastory in response to the tragic news.

In his post, he raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death, including the events leading up to his demise, the ailment he was diagnosed with before receiving an injection, and the absence of an autopsy after his passing.

Tonto Dikeh expressed her disapproval of Naira Marley’s questions, especially in light of the fact that the deceased singer had previously accused Naira Marley of sending people to harass and assault him.

Mohbad had even stated that Naira Marley should be held responsible if anything happened to him.

In response, Tonto Dikeh criticized Naira Marley for attempting to distance himself from the situation and claimed that he was not complicit.

She also scolded him for what she perceived as an attempt to deceive her and the Nigerian public.

    Her words,

“Is Naria Marley playing with us?

Most people don’t understand why Akufo-Addo appointed me – Mortuaries CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of the Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Authority (MoFFA), Dr. Yaw Twerefour, has addressed the prevailing public misconceptions about his organization’s role as a regulator within the funeral industry.

Upon the announcement of his appointment by the President, Dr. Twerefour observed a significant level of confusion among Ghanaians regarding MoFFA’s purpose.

He clarified that while MoFFA had existed since the 1990s as a board, it was only in 2019 that concrete steps were taken to elevate it to an authority tasked with regulating the funeral sector in Ghana.

Dr. Twerefour noted that public reactions on social media following his appointment underscored the urgent need for increased awareness about MoFFA’s functions.

He expressed these concerns during an interview with the media on Friday, September 15, 2023.

He recounted an instance where individuals questioned the necessity of regulating the funeral industry, prompting him to ask whether they preferred an unregulated environment over a regulated one.

Dr. Twerefour emphasized that the absence of regulation in the country’s funeral sector over the years had given rise to various problematic practices and challenges, including the improper use of ambulances as hearses.

MoFFA’s primary mandate encompasses the regulation, oversight, and licensing of all aspects related to the storage, burial, transportation, and disposal of deceased individuals.

Dr. Twerefour clarified that the term “mortuary” simply serves as a name denoting the industry that his agency regulates, and it should not be associated with myths or superstitions.

He highlighted the fact that many undertakers throughout the country operate without the requisite licenses, and even grave diggers are required to obtain licenses through the agency.

Additionally, MoFFA bears the responsibility of ensuring that cemeteries adhere to specific standards, including the provision of walls, office facilities, and restroom amenities.

Dr. Twerefour pointed out that certain cemeteries lack these fundamental facilities, which can result in the intrusion of free-range animals. Moreover, he emphasized that the law permits family members to report mortuaries failing to properly preserve the deceased bodies to MoFFA for appropriate action

Limited Voter Registration : NPP prompts EC of faulty registration machines

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially registered a complaint with the Electoral Commission (EC) regarding the malfunctioning registration equipment deployed across the nation.

Numerous first-time voters have encountered frustration and disarray at various registration centers due to equipment malfunctions and the sluggish pace of registration.

In the Northern Region, a multitude of eligible registrants have endured long queues for several days.

In the Tamale metro center, only 72 individuals managed to be enrolled onto the register since Tuesday, primarily due to equipment-related challenges.

Local residents shared their exasperation with the media, stating that despite their persistent efforts to participate in the registration process from the outset, they have yet to have their names added to the list.

“This is our third day of coming here. It didn’t go well for us at all,” one resident complained.

Nevertheless, Tamale’s EC Director, Bismark Nti, conveyed that they have witnessed some improvement following the arrival of new machines.

“The first two days we had serious challenges here. As for the first day it was terrible, we were able to register five people. As at now the keys are working very well.”

This situation is not unique, as similar issues have been reported across the country.
The opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the EC of intentionally distributing faulty machines to their strongholds in an attempt to suppress their votes in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

In response, the NPP Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, called on the NDC to cease complaining, emphasizing that the problem extends nationwide.

He stated, “They should refrain from constant complaints and finger-pointing. We understand that it’s the opposition’s role, but it should be carried out responsibly. These are machines, and even the phones they use sometimes let them down. We need to encourage the Electoral Commission to have technicians on standby to promptly resolve these machine issues.”

Notably, the NPP has also submitted formal complaints to the Electoral Commission regarding the problematic machines. Haruna Mohammed added, “In certain areas, the registration process has been quite smooth, while in others, the machines have been frustratingly slow. The NPP, as a party, is concerned about the pace of registration, and we have officially raised our concerns with the Electoral Commission.”

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission had previously assured JoyNews that these challenges are common and will be rectified before the registration process concludes in October. Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission, affirmed, “If you compare the hiccups from yesterday to today, you’d notice a significant reduction in problems. This is normal; I told everyone that this registration exercise spans 21 days, and the first three days will bring challenges, which will be resolved. By the end of the third day, the system will operate smoothly. So, everything happening is within the expected norms.”

Dan Kwaku Yeboah lists ministers Akufo-Addo must sack

Ace Sports Journalist, Dan Kwaku Yeboah has weighed in on the various concerns raised by Ghanaians regarding the governance of the Akufo-Addo administration.

Kwaku Yeboah, known for his expertise in sports journalism, has traditionally focused on sports-related matters within the government.

He commended the administration for its numerous development projects, notably highlighting the success of the free Senior High School (SHS) initiative.

While acknowledging the positive strides made by the government, Kwaku Yeboah, who also serves as the Head of Sports at Despite Media, expressed his reservations about certain ministers whom he believes have not met the public’s expectations and should no longer hold their positions.

During an appearance on the Peace FM morning show called ‘Kokrookoo,’ the experienced sports journalist criticized President Akufo-Addo for not taking appropriate actions to address and replace underperforming ministers, which has led to public criticism of the government.

Kwaku Yeboah specifically mentioned Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako-Attah, and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, asserting that these individuals, in his opinion, have not lived up to the standards expected of their positions.

For instance, he pointed out concerns about the Roads Minister, highlighting an issue related to payment for a modernized toilet.

He also raised questions about the Finance Minister, using an analogy related to church leadership.

Regarding the Health Minister, he referred to post-COVID-19 events, expressing disappointment over certain actions and financial decisions made within the ministry.

“For instance, the road minister, he should have been far gone. How can you say we should pay both for a modernized toilet? The finance minister, and I am sure the finance minister is a Christian and goes to church and the Pastor spends money, we don’t dissolve the church but rather bring in a new Pastor”.

“For the health minister after the Covid-19 we all saw what happened. After covid, he said what was mounted at the Kotoka International Airport was nowhere to be found. After covid, the Auditor General’s report said he went to buy lands in the Volta Regions for millions of dollars but how much is even lands sold at East Legon”, he added.

UK raises visa fees, now £115 from £15

The UK government will raise immigration and nationality fees for essential services starting October 4, 2023.

The new charges involve a notable increase for services such as a visit visa for less than six months, going from £15 to £115, and an application for a student visa from outside the UK, increasing by £127 to £490.

This rise is equivalent to the fees charged for in-country applications. A bill for these changes was presented to the UK Parliament on September 15, 2023, awaiting approval.

“In July, the government announced a 15% increase in the cost of most work and visit visas, and an increase of at least 20% in the cost of priority visas, study visas and certificates of sponsorship,” the UK government said its on official website; gov.uk

“Income from fees charged plays a vital role in the Home Office’s ability to run a sustainable immigration and nationality system,” it added.

They emphasized the crucial role fee income plays in maintaining a sustainable immigration and nationality system within the Home Office.

Mr. Hehui Chen, Chairman of TIAST China, who was born on a Friday, was named Kofi Esar. Similarly, Mr. David Tai, CEO of TIAST West Africa, also born on a Friday, received the name Kofi Sekum.

Ms. Anna Jiang, the Chief Director of the Health Community of West Africa, was named Ekua Bentumaa as she was born on a Wednesday, while her translator, Ms. Danchen Xu, who was born on a Friday, was named Efua Aboagyewaa.

In accordance with tradition, the Omanhen, who conducted the naming ceremony, used the Adwen (wisdom) Leaf to scoop water three times for each honoree to drink. They were then offered liquor using the same leaf, repeated three times, to help them distinguish between good and bad and to discern truth from falsehood.

Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II also provided a mixture of water and liquor to all those present as part of the ceremonial tradition.

Kofi Esar, Kofi Sekum, Ekua Bentumaa, and Efua Aboagyewaa, visibly delighted, were adorned with vibrant bead accessories as tokens of appreciation.

Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II encouraged the newly inducted members of the community to contribute actively to its development. He emphasized the importance of honesty, respect, and assistance to the people of Oguaa, considering them as family.

He concluded by stating that if they continued to make positive contributions to the city, the community would gather once again to honor and reward them for their dedication.

Plot to oust IGP: COP Mensah’s ambitions are personal not aligning with NPP’s agenda – Ahiagbah

The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, Richard Ahiagbah, has asserted that the embattled retired Commissioner of Police, George Alex Mensah, is pursuing his personal interests rather than those of the police service in the alleged plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

In an interview with the media on Saturday, Ahiagbah stated, “What is happening is clearly an individual’s ambition to advance his interest. It has nothing to do with the NPP or government.”

He suggested that the situation revolves around a particular Commissioner of Police (COP) aspiring to become the IGP and using his connection with Bugri Naabu, who has a close relationship with the President, to further his ambitions.

Ahiagbah also encouraged the committee to remain focused on its specific terms of reference and not delve into matters unrelated to the Police.

Adding to the discussion, Professor Ransford Gyampo criticized the committee for deviating from the evidence and testimonies provided by witnesses during the investigation into the leaked tape.

He expressed concerns about the committee’s allocation of time and attention to issues that should not be their primary focus.

He also emphasized the significance of the President’s appointment of the IGP.

My prophecy was to Sherif Black not Black Sherif – Nigel Gaisie explains

The Founder of Prophetic Hill Chapel, Nigel Gaisie, has provided clarification regarding a recent Facebook post in which he made a foreboding prediction concerning a well-known musician.

In his post, Gaisie made mention of someone named Sheriff Black and urged his family to engage in fervent prayer on his behalf due to something unsettling he had perceived in the spiritual realm.

His post included the following excerpt“Let the family of Sheriff Black…PRAY FOR HIM TALK TO HIM DEEPLY, I I DIDN’T LIKE WHAT I SAW ABOUT HIM SOME FEW MINUTES AGO… Life is PRICELESS. I saw the mother crying uncontrollable,” his post read in part.

The media widely interpreted this as a prophecy concerning Black Sherif.

However, on the September 16, 2023 episode of UTV’s United Showbiz Show, Gaisie clarified that he did not explicitly refer to the artist.

When the host inquired whether his post was directed at Black Sherif, Gaisie responded, “That’s your interpretation.”

“That is your word,” he responded when the host asked if he referred to Black Sherif by his post.

He continued: “with prophecies, we see and prophesy in bits, I didn’t hear Black Sherif, I heard Sherif Black. I saw Sherif Black in the spirit. But whichever way it is, a sensible person can make deductions from it.

“Prophecies come figuratively, so if there is anything close to anything about or close to me, I can take steps. It is better safe than sorry and people in the arts after anything is said about them have often attacked the clergy,” he added.
