In Abrokofe, a community situated in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region, security personnel employed by certain Chinese illegal miners opened fire, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old young man and the injury of two others.
The victims, all members of the community, had ventured to the mining site on that day to engage in their work. Regrettably, Kofi King Arthur, one of the workers, was fatally shot in the chest and lost his life immediately.
The two survivors, Joseph Tawiah and Albert Oppong, were wounded – Joseph in the thigh and Albert in the lower back.
The injured individuals are presently receiving medical attention at St John of God Hospital in Sefwi Asafo.
According to the community residents, access to the mining site is typically restricted, except on designated “Breaking Days” when the Chinese miners are not active. On these occasions, locals are allowed to enter the mine to search for gold.
Tragically, on that fateful Wednesday, the security personnel at the site unexpectedly opened fire on the community members, leading to the fatality and injuries.
Per reports aside from the Aowin Municipality and the Suaman District – both recognized as hubs for illegal mining – the Juaboso District in the Western North Region also experiences a significant presence of illegal mining activities, known as “Galamsey.”
Numerous areas such as Bonsu Nkwanta, Mintakrom, Yawgyem, Sefwi Juaboso, Boinzan, Abrokofe, Agyemangdiem, Mafia, and Sefwi Elluibo have seen illegal mining encroach even into people’s living spaces, causing widespread destruction to valuable cocoa farms and fertile lands within the Juaboso District.
In an interview with the media, the father of one of the victims and the unit committee chairman of Abrokofe, Mr. Barnabas Nketiah, shared that the injured victims were initially taken to Kofikrom-Proso Clinic before being transferred to Asafo for necessary medical treatment.
An aspirant seeking the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position, Francis Addai-Nimoh, has shared that his aspiration to lead the party in the 2024 general elections stems from a dream he had years ago.
During an interview with the media, Addai-Nimoh, who tied with Boakye Agyarko in the August 26 Special Delegates Conference, expressed his determination to persevere until he achieves his goal.
“The process is open to all card-bearing members in good standing. If you evaluate yourself and believe in your conviction, the ability to provide quality leadership to the NPP, I always encourage you to contest.”
“I have my conviction and ambition, just as the other nine aspirants have their own. While I don’t know when others developed their dream of leading the party, I have held mine for many years and I am steadfastly pursuing it.”
He proceeded to criticize media and polling agencies for favoring certain aspirants and sidelining others, particularly before the Special Delegates Conference.
“Some of us were marginalized, which I strongly criticize the media for. Because election outcomes are unpredictable, every contender should be given an opportunity.”
“Global InfoAnalytics conducted a poll in which some of us received zero ratings. While there may be various reasons behind this, the main goal of the exercise is to have five candidates proceed to the main contest. This objective should be acknowledged.”
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has stated that the Upper East Region holds the highest count of elephantiasis (lymphatic filariasis) cases in Ghana.
Around 2,373 confirmed elephantiasis cases, constituting roughly a third of the country’s total instances, have been identified in the region.
Speaking to the media, the Desk Officer for GHS’s Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) program, Bright Alomatu, stated that despite the endemic nature of elephantiasis across all 15 municipalities and districts in the Upper East Region, efforts are underway to curb its progression.
He linked the region’s widespread elephantiasis to the influence of dams and irrigation projects.
“In all, we have registered close to 6,000 cases across the whole country, the Upper East Region has 2,373, those are those we found. There could even be more out there. Again, it’s not only the Upper East Region that has the condition. Maybe the high numbers may be due to the pressures of many dams, and irrigation projects because the disease is spread by the very anopheles mosquito that transmits malaria.”
“We have done more work in the Upper East Region than all the regions. It’s also possible that if we do a thorough search in other regions, their number could increase,” the Desk Officer for the Ghana Health Service’s NTDs programme said.
An aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has condemned the attack on his campaign coordinator, Ali Zakaria, in the North East region.
Zakaria was reportedly assaulted by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s supporters after intervening to prevent a delegate from displaying a cast ballot.
During a hospital visit to Zakaria, Kyerematen expressed his disapproval, labeling the attack a blemish on the party’s reputation. He emphasized the need for a peaceful selection process.
“I am not going to tolerate this kind of behaviour. It doesn’t make sense and when we cannot conduct ourselves as a family trying to select a leader in a peaceful and organised manner, how do we intend to be able to do the same kind of process when we have 200,000 plus people gathered?”
“Frankly, I am very disturbed about what has happened. The party must not put a shine on what has happened.”
The NPP Elections Committee met with flagbearer hopefuls to address conference-related concerns. Alexander Afenyo Markin, the Committee’s Spokesperson, stated they had productive talks with Kennedy Agyapong regarding his viral comment.
He reported the Committee’s intention to meet other members and maintained a positive outlook.
“We had a very fruitful engagement. Some agents also came out with their reports on certain happenings, isolated cases where they had some difficulties, and they had an opportunity to give us a full report of what happened. We are going to meet some other members again on Thursday,” he added.
Police have thronged Nsawam Adoagyiri in the Eastern region after a fatal shooting incident on Tuesday resulting in two deaths.
The two deceased individuals, presently at Nsawam government hospital morgue, were among four individuals wounded in renewed chieftaincy conflicts between Akyem Kotoku and Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council.
The tensions escalated after the installation of a rival chief at Nsawam Adoagyiri by Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council.
In response, the Municipal Security Council plans an urgent session while police intensify investigations to apprehend the suspects involved in the shooting.
The opposition in Parliament criticized Phase Two of the government’s flagship agricultural initiative, Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ).
President Akufo-Addo unveiled the second phase on August 28, 2023, at the University for Development Studies in Tamale.
This five-year plan focuses on modernizing agriculture through commodity value chains and private sector engagement.
In a statement by Deputy Ranking Member of the Committee on Food, Agriculture & Cocoa Affairs, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, the Opposition questioned the outcomes of the PFJ’s six-year implementation, asserting that increased production remains unaccounted for.
“Deceived after six years of PFJ. Where’s the maize? The rice? Soybeans? We should have surplus, reducing prices. Instead, scarcities persist, prices surge. We’ve been deceived.”
Doubts were raised about the government’s ability to ensure significant strides toward food security.
“After analyzing PFJ Phase 2, we sadly find no new elements. It won’t drive significant food security. It’s an attempt to erase PFJ 1’s failures, creating a façade to continue resource drain through insider connections.”
The Opposition declared that PFJ Phase 2 brings nothing innovative and would harm small farmers.
“PFJ Phase 2.0 isn’t distinct. It leaves farmers vulnerable to market whims, privatizing inputs. The whole production season of 2023 went to waste, farmers paying full market prices. Expect higher food costs by year-end. The document’s language is theoretical.”
They called upon the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, to enhance efforts.
“PFJ has failed to secure food and nutrition for Ghanaians. The new minister should bring fresh solutions.”
The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has announced its intention to formally request the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, to enhance security measures at various court premises.
JUSAG has expressed strong disapproval of recent assaults on judicial staff.
In response to the attack on the Tamale Circuit Court by angered residents, JUSAG President Samuel Afotey Otu stated that the police must safeguard court facilities.
“In situations like these, we have established legal procedures to address them. Therefore, we urge the police to address the issue. We also call for increased assistance from both the government and the police service, under the leadership of the IGP, to ensure the provision of security and additional security personnel during such court proceedings. We ask them to heighten security measures,” appealed the President of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana.
Background
The Tamale District Court was subjected to an attack on August 28, 2023, as a group of residents stormed the court premises, hurling stones and causing damage to the property. A police officer was injured during the incident, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the police and the agitated youth.
The group claimed they were acting to ensure the proper prosecution of a drug dealer whom they believed was causing harm to the youth through his activities.
JUSAG condemned the unauthorized intrusion onto the Tamale District Court premises, asserting that the act was unlawful.
Nevertheless, Gulkpegu Naa, the chief of Tamale, has called for the immediate and unconditional release of suspects detained in connection with the attack. These individuals were apprehended after the youth mob disrupted the court proceedings, damaging property and injuring a police officer.
The youth’s actions were motivated by their frustration with the release of a drug dealer whom they accused the police of shielding.
Following the attack, 13 suspects were apprehended. Speaking on behalf of the chief, Saha Naa Abdul Latif appealed for the release of the suspects and the return of their confiscated motorbikes.
He further alleged that the police entered the Gukpe Naa’s Palace and fired shots, resulting in injuries to five individuals.
A prominent contender in the NPP flagbearer race, Francis Addai-Nimoh, has firmly stated that he will not withdraw from the scheduled run-off on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
He clarified that the New Patriotic Party’s regulations dictate a run-off in the event of a tie during the August 26 Super Delegates Conference.
Addai-Nimoh emphasized the importance of adhering to these rules and stated his determination to remain in the race.
“Absolutely not. The rules are clear. We are abiding by the rules, alright? We’ve adopted the guidelines endorsed by the party’s national council. According to these guidelines, if there’s a tie for the fifth position, a run-off will be conducted to determine the occupant of that spot,” he affirmed.
Francis Addai-Nimoh conveyed this stance during an interview with the media.
To qualify for the NPP congress and compete for the main flagbearer position on November 4, 2023, a minimum of five candidates is required.
However, following the conclusion of the super delegates conference on August 26, 2023, Francis Addai-Nimoh secured nine votes, accounting for 1.03% of the vote share.
Similarly, Boakye Agyarko also received nine votes, representing 1.03%, resulting in a tie for the fifth position.
The First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has unveiled Ghana’s version of the “Unifying Campaign,” aimed at bridging the gender gap in Africa.
The initiative strives for gender equality, empowering women and girls to contribute to Africa’s, especially Ghana’s, progress.
Under the banner of “We Are Equal (#WeAreEqual),” the campaign brings together African first ladies, partners, and allies to advance gender equity and diminish gender disparities continent-wide.
The Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) spearheads this year-long effort, uniting first ladies to dismantle barriers obstructing women and girls in health, education, women’s economic empowerment, and gender-based violence.
The campaign emphasizes the notion that “We are equal – and always have been. Our access to healthcare, education, economic opportunities, and freedom from violence should be equal too.”
In June, during its 20th Anniversary, OAFLAD initiated a one-year campaign with the theme “We are Equal. Working Together, Our Society Can Be Too,” aimed at hastening gender parity in Africa through member state advocacy, as stated by Mrs. Akufo-Addo.
She urged action to grant women and girls equal access to health, education, skills, and protection from gender-based violence. She hoped that by dismantling the barriers that hinder women’s progress, “we can forge a future where all Africans can thrive.”
Mrs. Akufo-Addo encouraged policymakers to expedite the execution of existing policies, making gender a pervasive theme throughout strategies and programs.
“The battle for gender equality is a long-standing one. Unfortunately, it remains unfulfilled. While the global gender gap has been narrowing, we require more urgency and action for significant impact.”
The First Lady implored all stakeholders, particularly social media influencers, to use their platforms to advance gender equality in health, economic empowerment, education, decision-making, and overall development.
“To all influencers, your voices resonate far. Employ your platforms to promote gender equality… We anticipate that this campaign will elevate awareness, stimulate stakeholder involvement, reinforce policy commitments, and amplify media focus on closing the gender gap.”
Madam Lariba Zuweira Abudu, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, applauded the First Lady’s substantial efforts in empowering women and children.
She revealed that her ministry had leveraged the Free Education Policy to address concerns raised by the Unifying Campaign, given that many girls could now access education through this program.
The Deputy Minister of Health, Ms. Tina Gifty Mensah, pledged the Ministry’s full support for the campaign’s success. She asserted that strong advocacy was required to enforce gender equity by involving more women in decision-making and championing the advancement of capable women to leadership roles.
Mr. Yaw Adutwum, the Minister of Education, extended gratitude to the First Lady for her contributions and promised the Ministry’s support to drive the campaign.
He highlighted how the successes achieved with the Free SHS program and the promotion of STEM education had enabled many girls to pursue these courses, aligning with the President’s commitment to affording women and girls equal opportunities.
Dr. Emmily Naphambo, Deputy Country Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), acknowledged Ghana’s role in ensuring gender equality and women’s well-being.
However, she emphasized the need for more action in areas like maternal mortality, unmet family planning needs, and female genital mutilation. UNFPA pledged continuous support to meet the country’s socio-economic requirements.
Dignitaries in attendance included Professor Amin Alhassan, Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation; Dr. Kyeremeh Atuahene, Director General of the Ghana Aids Commission; and Dr. Beatrice Addai Wiafe, CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals.
The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has stressed the significance of acknowledging the pioneers who paved the way for Ghana’s present condition.
He brought attention to the substantial contributions of past leaders such as Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia in cementing Ghana’s democracy and laying its groundwork.
While speaking at an event in Kumasi dedicated to honoring Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, the Majority Leader highlighted the central role the former Prime Minister played in enriching the nation’s democratic principles and propelling its progress.
“Dr. Busia believed in fortifying parliament to counteract dictatorship. Back then, parliament was used to create a lot of disruption in governance. It was used to dethrone chiefs and dismiss judges. He is the reason why post-1966 constitutions have included robust provisions to prevent this. Parliament can’t legislate on matters involving chiefs.”
“Parliament cannot overturn court verdicts. Prior to this, parliament could overturn court rulings. These instances have guided our contemporary approach to governance. By Article 56, parliament cannot enact laws to establish a one-party state. In 1960, we had a one-party state. He is also the reason Article 66 states that a president is limited to two terms. We can’t have a lifelong president who rules indefinitely. Thanks again to Dr. Busia.”
Furthermore, he shed light on specific instances where Dr. Busia contributed to the nation’s advancement and clarified certain misunderstandings and controversies that surrounded his political career.
“Busia was in many ways misunderstood. In the construction of the Akosombo dam, the argument was that as a country, we shouldn’t put all our eggs in one basket. If there’s any misfortune, the nation will suffer. So the advocacy at the time was that, Ghana is blessed with so many rivers that traverse almost all the regions, so we could have a dam on Pra, to serve the central region, another on Offinso to serve Ashanti Region, Ankobra to serve the Western Region. That was the advocacy. And yet the whole thing was overturned that Busia didn’t want Akosombo dam to be constructed. When the motorway was going to be constructed, Busia said we shouldn’t do that, and he was misunderstood.”
“The reason which he gave was that it had been estimated that the cement and iron rod that was going to be used on the motorway would be able to build 250,000 two-unit houses. At the time, the housing stock in both Accra and Kumasi was lower than 200,000. So it was like building two cities that would not be occupied at the time, and Busia was lambasted. He insisted that we could do a normal road and not a motorway. Today in Ghana, the housing deficit is in the region of about 1.8 million. Sadly, extreme partisanship and political polarization hamper the celebration of our national heroes. It is my humble plea that as a people, we honour the men and women who blaze the trail regardless of tribe, or religion, or political affiliation,” Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu added.
Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, a former chairman of the National Peace Council and ex-bishop of the Methodist Church, also called on stakeholders to assess leaders who have made substantial contributions to nation-building objectively, devoid of political bias, in order to facilitate the study of their contributions for the nation’s benefit.
“We must detach these leaders from our confrontational politics and position them within the realm of education, enabling students to learn from their valuable contributions. This will enable us to replicate their achievements in our socio-political context. What I’m suggesting regarding Dr. Busia applies to other leaders of our nation who have made significant contributions. These are the figures from whom we can glean a lot.”
Anane Agyei, the director of the Busia Institute for Rural and Democratic Development (BIRDD), also endorsed the call for celebrating Dr. Busia.
“45 years after the demise of a person is relatively long enough to forget such a person and all that he stood for, but Busia is survived by the great legacy he left behind,” said Anane Agyei, Executive Director of BIRDD.
The Deputy Minister of Education overseeing Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Gifty Twum Ampofo, has encouraged high-achieving students who recently completed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to consider opting for TVET institutions without hesitation.
Currently, the 2023 cohort of BECE candidates are in the process of selecting their preferred schools. This selection period commenced on August 23 and is scheduled to conclude on September 4, as communicated by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
During her interaction with the press at the Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa conference, the Deputy Minister asserted that the outdated perception of channeling academically less accomplished students towards TVET institutions is a thing of the past. She pointed out that contemporary educational equipment can pose risks to individuals lacking the necessary operational expertise.
“I am very confident to say that, for Ghana, we are getting TVET right. So we want to partner with the media to support us with advocacy for students who are now selecting their programmes for second cycle schools to select TVET areas, especially the very smart and serious ones. We have lived beyond the days when we thought that those who don’t want to be serious should go and do TVET. No, with the modern equipment we use, if you cannot be serious, you will have your head chopped off by the machines you will use.”
“If you visit any technical university and if you visit the traditional universities, you will prefer to go to a technical university, because they are well-equipped and well-laid out,” the Deputy Minister of Education in Charge of TVET stated.
She emphasized that after comparing technical universities with traditional ones, anyone would likely prefer technical institutions due to their excellent equipment and infrastructure.
The instructional video on school selection guidelines was available in schools from August 21 to August 25, 2023.
The school selection process, initiated on August 23, will reach its conclusion on September 4, 2023. This process encompasses educational directorates and schools at regional and district levels.
Socialite Hajia4Reall recently joined TikTok with the intention of reconnecting with her fans, whom she openly admits to missing.
However, her well-intentioned effort was met with criticism from certain online users.
During a live session on TikTok, an unexpected guest appeared on her feed, offering unsolicited advice that she should take a hiatus from social media, particularly in light of her ongoing fraud case.
Hajia4Reall, whose real name is Mona Montrage, is currently facing legal proceedings in the UK for allegedly being involved in wire fraud totaling more than $2 million.
As part of her legal situation, she has been placed under a $500,000 bond and is under monitoring through an ankle tracker.
The concerned fan expressed worry for Hajia4Reall’s overall well-being and suggested that stepping back from social media could potentially help her avoid undue stress and negative interactions.
Hajia4Reall, however, did not receive this advice well.
She retorted that she views social media as a platform for human connection, asserting that she is a participant in the collective human experience it offers.
She raised the question of whether she, as an individual, doesn’t deserve the chance to engage in online conversations just like anyone else.
In response to the advice, she called on her followers to empathize with her perspective.
Moving forward, the artist intends to conduct frequent live streaming sessions as a means to interact with her audience and share her emotions and experiences.
President Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed the government’s resolute dedication to enhancing Ghana‘s security infrastructure, with the goal of safeguarding the country against potential terrorist risks.
Given recent assaults in neighboring nations like Burkina Faso, President Akufo-Addo has highlighted the critical nature of bolstering Ghana’s security protocols.
These statements were made during the inauguration of the International Maritime and Exhibition Conference held at Burma Camp.
Addressing the concerns aroused by the proximity of terrorist activities in neighboring countries, President Akufo-Addo emphasized Ghana’s susceptibility and underscored the necessity for proactive measures.
He articulated the government’s dedication to reinforcing the nation’s security infrastructure to effectively thwart any possible breaches.
Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo asserted that this commitment extends to ensuring the safety of Ghana’s territorial waters.
“The government recognises the need for a well-resourced and technologically advanced Navy. We have commenced equipping the NAVY with Drones, coastal radars, real-time surveillance and tracking protocols in other to improve maritime domain awareness,” Akufo-Addo said.
The former Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has claimed that one of the police officers involved in the recorded conversation discussing the removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, has ceased communicating with him since the audio leaked.
He stated that he phoned the officer with the intention of learning how the audio recording had become widely accessible, but as soon as the officer recognized his identity, he abruptly ended the call and declined to respond to any of his subsequent calls.
Bugri Naabu shared these details during his appearance before the Ad-Hoc Committee of Parliament on August 28.
During his testimony, he disclosed that he had recorded his conversation with the officers and had shared the recording with President Akufo-Addo.
He clarified that he took this step to safeguard the party and present evidence of certain officers’ plans to remove the IGP.
“I called Mr. Asare and asked him who sent the tape into the public domain, and he banged the phone on me. Then I called him again and he refused to talk to me.”
He further revealed that he received a threat from Commander Asare through his son, indicating a threat to his life over the leaked audio tape.
“But rather, he sent a message through my son, that he will deal with me, he threatened me,” Bugri Naabu added.
The circumstances surrounding the leaked audio have triggered significant attention.
To get to the bottom of the matter, the Speaker of Parliament appointed Samuel Atta-Akyea, the MP for Abuakwa South, to lead a 7-member ad hoc committee with the responsibility of investigating the leaked audio recording.
American musician Miguel Jontel Pimentel, is not afraid to push the boundaries of his art, and he proved it with a stunning and shocking stunt that left everyone speechless.
The 37-year-old singer literally hung by hooks on his back to perform a song from his upcoming album, Viscera.
The daring act took place at Sony Studios in Los Angeles on Friday, August 25, where Miguel hosted a special four-song concert to preview his new album. Before singing “Rope”, two assistants came out to insert metal rods in piercings through Miguel’s back and wires lifted him up in the air.
The song’s lyrics are fitting for the stunt, as they say, “I’m hanging on to nothing / I’m hanging from the ceiling / Rope around my neck.”
The performance, which was also live-streamed, was billed as a “boundary-pushing performance” for the musician, who since 2017, hasn’t released a full-length album.
According tp reports by TMZ, Miguel spent several months preparing for this daring stunt.
Miguel, earlier this month in an interview with The Los Angeles Times opened up about planning the experience, saying “Initially it was a bit of, ‘What is the most extreme way to push outside of what’s expected?’” Miguel told the outlet. “How far can I go in demonstrating how far I’m willing to go for art, for conversation? I couldn’t have known how committed I was to the real purpose of this shit until I had hooks in my back.”
He said that hanging by hooks on his back made him confront his fear and control issues.”It was a scary and freeing experience and emotion to go through because it’s such a light switch,” he said. “It has so much to do with pain. What does pain mean?”
Miguel confessed that he wrote “Rope” when he was going through a dark phase before marrying Nazanin Mandi in 2018. The now exes called it quits in September 2021 after getting hitched in Nov. 2018. They had a long history together, dating for almost 14 years since they were both 18. They got engaged in 2016.
“I don’t think I’d ever been in a place where I was creating from there,” Miguel said. “You build a reputation and a repertoire around love and sex and sexiness — these completely unrelated tones. Getting to the point where I allowed myself to express these emotions was a bit of a journey.”
What do you think of Miguel’s stunt? Are you excited for his new album? Let us know in the comments below! wink

The Ghana Hotels Association and Ghana Progressive Hotels Association have raised concerns over the steep water tariffs.
According to the group, the increased tariff is significantly impacting operational costs and leading many industry players into substantial debts.
At a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, August 28, 2023, the National President of the group, Dr. Edward Ackah Nyamike, stated the hotels’ problems began in January 2023, when the PURC issued an 8.3 percent increase in water tariff starting February 1, 2023.
“When hotels received their water bills for February 2023, their tariff per cubic meter of water was GHC30, indicating a whopping 167% increase as against the 8.3% announced by the PURC.
“The PURC responded promptly to the association’s petition in a letter dated 15th March and attempted to justify the 167% increase as part of an ongoing restructuring of Ghana Water Company Ltd consumer categories,” he added.
In response to the anomalies, the association lodged a complaint with the regulatory body.
The PURC’s initial response, dated March 15, defended the substantial increase, citing an ongoing restructuring of Ghana Water Company Ltd’s consumer categories.
Dissatisfied with this response, the association submitted a second petition, warning of a potential protest at the PURC office if the perceived billing errors were not rectified.
Following meetings and communications, the PURC acknowledged on April 5, 2023, that the significant billing surge was due to misclassification during tariff implementation.
Subsequently, the PURC directed the Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWCL) to revert misclassified non-residential customers back to their proper categories and to halt disconnections for disputed bills.
“To put it more bluntly, the administration of the Tourism Development Fund has denied Tourism Trade Associations the needed financial support to be effective partners in the Public Private Sector collaboration space,” he said.
However, Dr. Nyamike highlighted that despite these directives, the PURC later reclassified hoteliers as a commercial category and announced new tariff increments, causing additional surprise and concern within the industry.
Dr. Nyamike called for the PURC to enforce its initial directive to correct the categorization and billing errors for the months of February through May, as the misclassifications had led to substantial debts for association members.
The call also extended to the government, urging them to abolish the 1% COVID-19 Health Recovery Levy, given the conclusion of the global health emergency.
Dr. Nyamike further expressed apprehensions regarding steep increases in property rates for hotels.
He asserted that in a struggling economic environment, the significant property rate hikes without reference to existing rates were distressing.
The association also urged the Roads and Highway Ministry to prioritize upgrading major highways leading to tourist destinations.
The deteriorated state of certain roads to these attractions has adversely affected tourist visits and consequently impacted hotel occupancy, such as the Accra-Cape Coast road.
In addition, Dr. Nyamike voiced concerns over the exclusion of the association and its counterparts from the disbursement of the 1% Tourism Development Fund, established in 2012 to support industry development.
Concluding their press conference, the association formally petitioned the PURC to reconsider its decision to reclassify hoteliers under the commercial category for water billing.
A member of the communication team for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Naziru Mohammed, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of posing a threat to Ghana’s democracy.
He expressed concerns about recent actions taken by certain individuals within the NPP that he believes are endangering the democratic fabric of the country.
This statement comes in response to the confirmation given by Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, during his appearance before a 7-member committee.
Bugri Naabu, the first witness in the case involving an alleged audio recording aimed at removing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, admitted to recording the audio himself and presenting it to the president.
Alhaji Naziru Mohammed expressed apprehension about the president’s willingness to engage in listening to such recordings, characterizing it as engaging in gossip.
“NPP continuously is a threat to our democracy. I say so without any reservations because if you have a political party where the president gets time to listen to gossip tapes such as these then you can know where we are heading.
“The president has time among all the things he has to do, to listen to these things. If that was not the case, Burgri Naabu will come and tell us that he recorded such things to go and give them to the president,” he said.
Alhaji Naziru Mohammed went on to suggest that even President Nana Akufo-Addo was not immune to allegations of corruption. He referred to the contents of the tape where Bugri Naabu mentioned President Akufo-Addo in connection with financial matters.
“We must not forget that even in this tape, President Nana Akufo-Addo didn’t escape the issues of corruption. In the tape, Bugri Naabu said COP needs to bring something because they can’t just go and see the president without giving him anything.
“On top of that, Bugri Naabu confirmed to us that the tape was real. He even confirmed that he has taken everything to the president already and, he also must give Bugri Naabu something as he cannot also go empty-handed to the president,” he noted.
Also, the NDC communication team member touched on the recurring theme of financial transactions associated with the president.
“Every time something about Nana Addo comes up in a tape, you will hear them say, they will have to send money to the president before meeting him.
Additionally, Alhaji Naziru Mohammed touched on a recurring theme regarding financial transactions associated with the president. He claimed that the confirmation provided by Bugri Naabu’s tape supported allegations that the NDC had previously made about the president’s involvement in financial dealings.
“At least the confirmation tape by Bugri Naabu tells us that all the allegations we’ve heard about the president that they keep denying, it is true,” he added.
“In every tape where something about Nana Addo comes up, you will hear them say they have to send money to the president before meeting him. At least the confirmation tape by Bugri Naabu tells us that all the allegations we’ve heard about the president that they keep denying, it is true,” he concluded.
A prominent Hi-life musician from Ghana, Abiana, has spoken out about the prevailing trend where Nigerian musicians often adopt Ghanaian music, reinterpret it, and share it globally without providing proper credit or acknowledgment.
In an interview with the media, she highlighted the perception of highlife music and its potential for gaining international recognition.
“Some time ago, we used to say highlife was something. We were thinking about the Tictacs in Nigeria with Tony Tetula,” she added.
The former backing vocalist pointed out that Ghanaian culture has significantly influenced Nigerian music, with Nigerian artists sometimes rebranding Ghanaian musical elements as their own, often leading to great success.
However, Abiana expressed her concern that Ghana, despite being the originator of these musical concepts, sometimes misses out on the recognition and commercial success they deserve.
“It’s even disheartening that Nigerians sometimes take our concepts, make them bigger, and give them different names,” she revealed.
“Why don’t we come together and proudly declare that highlife is our genre? Let’s all identify as highlife musicians, and the rest will naturally follow,” she emphasized.
Thirteen individuals have been apprehended by the Northern Regional Police Command following an alleged attack on Tamale District Court 1.
On Monday, August 28, a group of incensed Tamale residents gathered at Tamale District Court to observe proceedings concerning a businessman named Karim Osman, who stands accused of his involvement in drug-related activities.
Tensions escalated as a segment of the youth attempted to forcefully enter the courtroom, resulting in a confrontation with law enforcement.
In response, the police discharged multiple cautionary shots to disperse the assembled crowd, ultimately leading to the arrest of the aforementioned 13 individuals by the armed officers.
The police also seized more than one hundred motorcycles owned by the youths involved.
Earlier this year in January, the youth of Aboabo in Tamale had penned a letter addressing 16 paramount chiefs, including the Ya-Naa, as well as the police and the food and drugs authority. The letter sought action against the proliferation and utilization of illicit drugs within the city.
Recently, this group intercepted several parcels of suspected tramadol, believed to belong to businessman Karim Osman.
Subsequently, the said businessman filed a lawsuit against the youth at Tamale District Court on Tuesday, August 15.
On Monday, August 28, the youth converged on the court premises for the hearing of the case. Regrettably, a misunderstanding between the police and the youth resulted in the detention of 13 individuals involved.
The former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tema East constituency, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, has expressed his belief that out of all the flagbearer aspirants of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) views Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a significant threat.
Glover emphasized that Dr. Bawumia is the candidate who has the potential to lead the NPP to break the tradition of two-term presidencies.
Backing his endorsement of the Vice-President, Glover stated, “he’s the candidate the NDC fears most, of all the 10, when you look around, when you scout around who is the most attacked candidate amongst the 10. It tells you something.
“When NDC [set] their eyes on you, consistently attacking you, then you are the one that they fear the most.”
He further highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s impactful involvement in the NPP’s growth in the Northern Region, describing it as exceptional.
Glover acknowledged Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to the country, particularly referencing his role during the days of the Supreme Court.
He commended the Vice-President’s contributions to the party, labeling him as the candidate that the NDC is most concerned about.
“This is somebody who has sacrificed so much for the country, I’m not saying the others haven’t sacrificed but when you look at the individual contribution, look at the days of the Supreme Court…I think that he has done his best.
“He [Dr Bawumia] has defended this party, he has sacrificed for this party, he is the candidate that the NDC fears so much,” he added.
Glover shared these sentiments with the media during the Super Delegates Conference that took place on Saturday, August 26, 2023, in Ho.
A group of four officers from Ghana’s National Food Safety Laboratory (NFSL), which operates under the Veterinary Services Directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, have successfully completed a practical training program focused on Salmonella serotyping in the United Kingdom (UK).
This educational visit was facilitated through the Animal Health System Strengthening project, an initiative aimed at supporting overseas development. The project is overseen by the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
The delegation consisted of Dr. Benjamin Kissi Sasu, Deputy Head of the Laboratory; Hawaha Korkor Ashong, Quality Manager of the laboratory; Emmanuel Gameli Adzaworlu, Technical Supervisor; and Lovelace Darko, a Veterinary Laboratory Technician.
During their visit, the team was hosted by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), an organization recognized for its expertise in this field.
Salmonella bacteria, commonly associated with causing foodborne illnesses in humans, are frequently transmitted through insufficiently cooked food and cross-contamination.
These bacteria are commonly found in raw meat, undercooked poultry (such as chicken or turkey), eggs, unpasteurized milk, and even in fruits, vegetables, and processed foods. Although there are over 2500 known types of Salmonella, only about 100 of them are capable of causing illness.
Serotyping is a diagnostic method employed by scientists to determine the specific serotype of Salmonella present. Identifying the particular type of Salmonella in food products or in affected individuals is crucial for tracing the source of infection, potentially mitigating outbreaks by minimizing exposure risks. Additionally, serotyping can guide the selection of appropriate treatment for severely ill patients.
The NFSL holds the distinction of being the sole ISO-accredited Veterinary (Animal Health) Laboratory in Ghana, signifying its adherence to international standards.
The training in Salmonella serotyping provided by the prestigious Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), endorsed as a center of excellence in this domain by the World Organisation for Animal Health, is a valuable opportunity for NFSL personnel.
Looking ahead, the Animal Health Systems Strengthening project aims to equip NFSL with essential tools to apply the newly acquired knowledge and skills effectively in Accra. Eventually, the goal is to extend this methodology to the main NFSL Sentinel sites located in Takoradi, Pong Tamale, and Kumasi.
During their time in the UK, the team engaged in productive discussions with the Veterinary Medicines Directorate regarding the monitoring of veterinary drug residues and antimicrobial resistance in food products.
The NFSL’s endeavors are pivotal in safeguarding the health of both humans and animals in Ghana.

Bees play a vital role in maintaining a healthy environment, contributing to biodiversity and acting as essential pollinators for various crops. Bee populations worldwide have been dwindling due to factors such as habitat loss, climate changes, diseases, and the excessive use of pesticides that harm their health.
The UK’s National Bee Unit (NBU) is renowned for its expertise in bee health advice and research.
It has been actively involved in bee pest and disease management, along with beekeeper training and information dissemination for over six decades.
The unit comprises around 80 professionals, including laboratory diagnosticians, researchers, and bee inspectors.
During their visit, the delegation is undergoing both theoretical and practical training on beekeeping techniques, as well as bee pests and diseases. They will also interact with scientists at Fera Science Ltd, responsible for testing bees and honey in laboratories.
The delegation will shadow bee health inspectors and apply the knowledge gained to develop a bee health teaching module for both veterinary schools in Ghana.
The collaboration’s second phase will involve British bee experts and Ghanaian partners visiting beekeeping communities in Ghana to assess prevalent diseases and pests.
They will adapt recommended disease control practices to suit the local context, benefiting Ghana’s honey producers and processors.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has introduced new traffic technology to enhance road safety compliance in the area.
The system, known as Traffictect-Ghana, employs cameras and sensors to capture images and videos of vehicles violating traffic laws, including speeding and running red lights at intersections.
Under the “Police Invisible Eyes Are Watching” (PIEAW) project, this technology aims to ensure both compliance and cooperation while improving the detection of road traffic offenses. Offending drivers will receive penalty notices and payment instructions via SMS, eliminating the need for police stops on highways.
At the launch event in Kumasi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Isaac Ken Yeboah, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, emphasized the importance of maintaining social order and building public trust in the police.
He highlighted that countries like South Africa, Morocco, and Australia have successfully implemented similar initiatives.
DCOP Yeboah outlined that the technology encompasses various traffic violations beyond speeding and running red lights, including the use of expired roadworthy certificates, wrongful overtaking, lack of seatbelt usage, mobile phone usage while driving, expired driving licenses, driving uninsured vehicles, and misuse of sirens.
Chief Superintendent Alexander Obeng of the Ashanti Regional Police MTTD demonstrated the technology’s functionality. He highlighted its potential to diminish perceived corruption among motorists and law enforcement officers, enhance evidence gathering, and expedite the prosecution of offenders.
President Akufo-Addo has provided assurance that the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) initiative will generate an annual average of two hundred and ten thousand (210,000) new jobs related to farming.
The President emphasized that this projection specifically pertains to employment within the agricultural sector, excluding other roles along the broader agricultural value chains.
Speaking at the launch of the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs program in Tamale, President Akufo-Addo highlighted that this new phase is geared towards bolstering food security and job creation.
“The second phase, by design, takes a holistic view and places greater emphasis on value chain approaches by focusing on strengthening linkages between actors along eleven selected agricultural commodity value chains broadly categorised into grains, roots and tuber, vegetables and poultry.
President Akufo-Addo outlined that the second phase of the PFJ initiative is characterized by a comprehensive perspective, placing strong emphasis on the value chain approach.
This involves enhancing the connections and interactions among participants within eleven chosen agricultural commodity value chains, which are categorized broadly as grains, roots and tubers, vegetables, and poultry.
The President underscored that this new phase is also designed to improve service delivery, ultimately maximizing its overall impact.
Furthermore, the phase entails a shift from direct input subsidies to intelligent agricultural financial support, achieved through a comprehensive input credit mechanism that even includes provisions for in-kind payment.
President Akufo-Addo’s previous launch of the inaugural “Planting for Food and Jobs” program on April 19, 2017, in the Ahafo region, signified a pivotal step towards modernizing agriculture, enhancing production efficiency, ensuring food security, and promoting the prosperity of farmers. The program aimed to significantly elevate agricultural productivity and adopt a value-addition strategy, focused on expediting agro-processing and fostering new, stable markets.
A former flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, has expressed contentment with the three votes he received during the Special Delegates Conference held on Saturday, August 26.
Initially confident in securing a position among the top five contenders for the presidential candidacy on November 4, Mr. Poku’s hopes were dashed when he garnered only three votes out of the 955 delegates who participated in the NPP’s special delegates conference.
This outcome has eliminated him from the flagbearership competition set for November.
During an interview with the media on Monday, Mr. Poku defended his satisfaction with the three votes, clarifying that some delegates voted more than once.
“You know some people voted twice…I don’t vote, So some of the candidates who voted for themselves and also had a proxy voted twice. So if you look at my three votes…that for me is a plus.”
“But for my first votes, I think I have done well and I am very happy with myself,” he added.
The party on Saturday, August, 26, 2023 delegates from the NPP gathered to cast their votes.
The purpose was to narrow down the field of ten presidential aspirants to a final selection of five candidates.
After the votes, the official results revealed a significant victory for vice president, Dr. Bawumia, positioning him favorably ahead of the main primary scheduled for November.
Dr. Bawumia secured a resounding win by amassing 629 votes, securing the top position.
In the same vein, Kennedy Agyapong secured the second position with a total of 132 votes, while Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen acquired 95 votes, placing him third.

Spain’s primary criminal court has initiated a preliminary inquiry into the president of the country’s football federation, Luis Rubiales, following an incident where he kissed player Jenni Hermoso on the lips.
Prosecutors are examining whether this occurrence qualifies as a sexual assault offense.
The scrutiny comes in the wake of Spain’s Women’s World Cup final triumph and the subsequent controversy surrounding the incident. The 46-year-old Rubiales has faced widespread criticism for the encounter.
Jenni Hermoso, 33, has stated that the kiss was non-consensual, which has led to significant public attention and discussions.
In response to the situation, Fifa, the global governing body of football, suspended Rubiales on Saturday. The day before this decision, Rubiales had declared his intention not to step down from his position.
The court’s investigation stems from the unequivocal nature of Hermoso’s statements.
The court aims to ascertain the legal implications of the incident.
A statement from the court emphasized that, based on Jennifer Hermoso’s public remarks, the act she experienced from Luis Rubiales was not consensual.
“Given the public statements made by Jennifer Hermoso, the sexual act she was subjected to by Luis Rubiales was not consensual.
“To offer her the option of legal action, giving her the chance to contact National Court prosecutors within 15 days for information about her rights as a victim of an alleged sexual assault should she wish to file a complaint”.
“In order to proceed with a case for sexual assault, harassment or sexual abuse, it will be necessary for the injured party or their legal representative to file suit, or the public prosecutors’ office, it added.
Legal experts will also engage with Hermoso to present her with the opportunity to pursue legal action. She will have 15 days to connect with National Court prosecutors if she wishes to explore her rights as a potential victim of an alleged sexual assault.
To pursue a legal case concerning sexual assault, harassment, or sexual abuse, the affected party or their legal representative must initiate the process.
The Spanish government has called for the suspension of Rubiales by Spain’s Sports Tribunal (TAD). A meeting of the TAD on Monday will discuss this request.
The Spanish football federation (RFEF) has convened regional federations for an “extraordinary and urgent” meeting on Monday to assess the federation’s current situation.
Upon announcing Rubiales’ suspension, Fifa instructed him, the RFEF, and its officials and staff not to attempt to contact Hermoso. The RFEF had earlier threatened legal action against Hermoso on the same day.

This second phase aims to build upon the achievements of the initial program and entails a comprehensive five-year plan to transform agriculture in Ghana.
The focus of this phase lies in modernization through the development of specific commodity value chains and active involvement of the private sector.
President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the second phase adopts a holistic approach and places greater emphasis on value chain strategies.
It concentrates on strengthening linkages among actors within eleven chosen agricultural commodity value chains, including grains, roots and tubers, vegetables, and poultry.
This new phase of the program aims to enhance service delivery to maximize its impact. It replaces direct input subsidies with intelligent agricultural financial support, primarily in the form of comprehensive input credit.
The President also revealed that key elements of this phase encompass an input credit system that grants farmers access to essentials like seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, along with support services to enhance productivity and yield.
Moreover, the plan includes the development of storage infrastructure and logistic hubs to reduce post-harvest losses and improve storage and distribution.
Furthermore, the second phase involves off-taker arrangements and commodity trading to provide farmers with improved market access and fair prices for their crops. It introduces a digitized platform for efficient management, monitoring, and coordination of the program.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted the expected impact of the program on job creation. Around 1.2 million farmers are projected to enroll in the first year, leading to an estimated annual average of 210,000 new farm-related jobs over the next four years.
This number excludes other employment opportunities along the agricultural value chains, estimated to average around 420,000 jobs annually over the same period.
Additionally, the President revealed that crucial components of this new phase encompass the implementation of an input credit system. This system empowers farmers with access to essential resources like seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. It also extends to encompass various support services aimed at enhancing productivity and yield.
Moreover, the phase includes plans for developing storage infrastructure and establishing a logistic hub. These initiatives are designed to enhance the storage and distribution of agricultural produce, ultimately working to mitigate post-harvest losses.
“The impact of the Programme is expected to be in the area of job creation, with some one-point-two million (1.2 million) farmers to be enrolled in the first year. In the next four (4) years, the Programme is destined to record an annual average of two hundred and ten thousand (210,000) new farm-related jobs. This will exclude other jobs along the agricultural value chains estimated at an annual average of four hundred and twenty thousand over the same period,” President Akufo-Addo said.
Recalling that on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, President Akufo-Addo launched the inaugural “Planting for Food and Jobs” program in Goaso, Ahafo region, the initiative symbolized the government’s pivotal commitment to modernizing agriculture, optimizing production efficiency, achieving food security, and bolstering profitability for local farmers.
The program’s core objective revolved around achieving a substantial surge in agricultural productivity while concurrently implementing a value-addition strategy, strategically aimed at accelerating agro-processing endeavors and fostering the establishment of resilient, sustainable markets.
Highlighting the program’s achievements, the President underscored that the successful execution of the first phase yielded impressive outcomes. Over 2.7 million farmers and various value chain stakeholders were reached through the implementation of five modules.
Notably, this endeavor fostered a relatively stable food security landscape, particularly evident in the self-sufficiency achieved in major staples like maize, cassava, and yam. Furthermore, the agricultural sector’s growth rate surged from 2.7% in 2016 to an average of 6.3% spanning from 2017 to 2021.
Continuing to outline the achievements, the President emphasized that these accomplishments enabled the government to meet the annual growth target of six percent, as set under the Malabo Declaration—an agreement to which Ghana is a signatory.
This success was also reflected in the enhanced application rate of fertilizers, escalating from eight kilograms per hectare (8 kg/ha) in 2016 to twenty-five kilograms per hectare (25 kg/ha) in 2022.
Moreover, the distribution of certified seeds soared from two thousand metric tons (2,000 MT) in 2016 to an impressive thirty-six thousand metric tons (36,000 MT) in 2022. There was also a notable surge in private sector investment within the seed industry.
With enthusiasm, the President shared that recent events reinforced the need to review strategies for tackling agricultural sector challenges. Specifically, a United Nations Summit in September 2021 and the AU Dakar II Summit in January 2022 emphasized the importance of building effective country food systems.
In response, Ghana has demonstrated its commitment by taking action, as evidenced by the launch of the Second Phase of the “Planting for Food and Jobs” program. This resolute response showcases the country’s dedication to addressing the agricultural sector’s pressing issues and enhancing its overall resilience.

The news of Selly Galley’s twin birth initially surfaced last week, but skepticism surrounded it, given that this marked the third occasion where news of her giving birth to twins had circulated, only for it to be proven false each time.
However, Selly and Praye Tietia erased all doubts by officially announcing the arrival of their precious twins, putting an end to the speculation.
This announcement coincides with the anniversary of Praye Tietia’s revelation in an interview last year that his wife had miscarried twins in 2021.
KOA Impact Ghana Limited, a company with Swiss-Ghanaian origins, has inaugurated Africa’s largest cocoa fruit processing facility in Akim Achiase, situated within the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond, officiated the opening ceremony on behalf of President Akufo-Addo.
During the inauguration Mr Hammond stated that the state-of-the-art factory, valued at $10 million, is designed with advanced environmental sustainability principles.
Its primary purpose is to process cocoa pulp into export-quality fruit juice.
The Minister emphasized that this establishment stands as the most extensive of its kind across Africa under the banner of KOA.
He elaborated that the project’s significance lies in its capacity to convert what was once discarded cocoa pulp into high-value products, notably fruit juices – a practice known worldwide as up-cycling.
Hammond underscored how this initiative is a testament to the yet untapped potential of Ghana’s cocoa industry, showcasing the potential of cocoa beyond its beans, encompassing pulp and pod.
“I am equally enthused that besides the environmentally friendly juices and cocoa products to be produced and exported, the factory would also generate 250 new jobs in rural Ghana, help cocoa farmers to reduce on-farm food waste in the cocoa value chain, generate additional income and launch new unique ingredients into the food and beverage industry including the chocolate confectionery products, ice cream and drinks,” he stated.
Hammond also lauded the incorporation of advanced technology into KOA’s operations, noting that the blending of modern technology with traditional practices is commendable.
He emphasized that the government’s vision of comprehensive and sustainable industrial transformation is achievable through inclusive means. This approach prioritizes robust food safety standards, fostering considerable market access for Ghana-made brands.
Anian Schreiber, the Managing Director & Co-Founder of KOA, expressed confidence that these investments would amplify production capabilities, enabling collaborations with 10,000 more cocoa smallholders in Ghana. He hailed the unity of purpose that underpins the company and the factory’s inauguration, aiming to revolutionize the cocoa value chain and magnify the value of Ghana’s remarkable resource.
Schreiber affirmed, “This project stands as the result of a courageous international team that spanned vast distances to come to Ghana and bring this vision to fruition. Our business ethos, driven by the harmony of people, planet, and profit, is embodied in this factory.”
Meanwhile, the Trade Minister affirmed the President’s unswerving commitment to a self-sustained Ghana that relies on impactful investments to bolster manufacturing, especially within agro-industry. This strategy aims to enhance competitive trading and chart a self-reliant path away from aid dependency.
He also noted the factory’s timely emergence in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement, which is gradually gaining momentum in terms of practical implementation for viable trading.
Hammond expressed optimism that more enterprises would seize the opportunities presented by AfCFTA.
Emphasizing quality and food safety, the Trade Minister commended the establishment for adopting the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system. This system ensures consistent adherence to stringent food safety and quality standards for its products.
The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has received $27.7 million in concessional funding from the World Bank to enhance services, particularly for the disadvantaged.
This funding aims to expand the scheme’s coverage, enroll more individuals from underprivileged backgrounds, and facilitate swift processing and settlement of claims for primary health care (PHC) providers.
The primary health care providers encompass community-based health planning services (CHPS) compounds, health centers, and maternity homes operating within the framework of the Primary Health Care Improvement initiative.
Known as the “Programme for Results” (PforR), the funding was allocated by the World Bank with additional backing from other donors associated with the Global Financing Facility consortium.
Enoch Oti Agyekum, a health economist at the World Bank, confirmed the funding during a claims management training event in Accra. He emphasized that while increasing the number of beneficiaries, especially among the marginalized, was vital, ensuring the quality of services provided was equally significant.
Agyekum noted that data from a public expenditure review conducted by the World Bank revealed that over 80 percent of the facilities under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) were comprised of health centers, maternity homes, and CHPS compounds.
However, these facilities represented only 17 percent of claims made to the NHIA.
He explained that primary health care facilities faced challenges in processing claims efficiently, particularly because many patients seeking care were unable to afford co-payments due to their impoverished status.
Agyekum stressed that improving claims payment processes could foster trust between the NHIS and healthcare facilities across all tiers of care. He highlighted the NHIS’s pivotal role in upholding the social contract between the government and citizens.
Acting Corporate Affairs Director of the NHIS, Oswald Essuah-Mensah, disclosed that the NHIA would collaborate with the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, and Health Facility Regulatory Authority (HeFRA) to enhance healthcare provider accreditation, monitoring, and financing for primary healthcare services.
Essuah-Mensah also highlighted ongoing collaboration between the NHIA and the Social Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to boost enrollment among vulnerable populations such as disabled individuals, orphans, widows, and women and children.
Under the leadership’s new vision, the NHIS aims to establish a resilient health insurance scheme that offers accessible, quality, and affordable healthcare services on a sustainable basis.
The strategy toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) involves adopting “pro-poor pathway” interventions within the legal framework, requiring all Ghanaians to register with the NHIS.
In pursuit of this goal, the NHIS Chief Executive, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, along with his deputies and directors, completed a nationwide tour to engage with staff and the public, discussing ways to strengthen the NHIS’s role in advancing UHC in Ghana.

Given ongoing delays in the construction of other health facilities in the region, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II underscored the importance of maintaining KATH’s operational excellence in catering to healthcare needs both locally and beyond.
Highlighting the uniqueness of KATH’s role compared to other regions, he stated that the hospital serves as both a training center for medical students and a provider of specialized healthcare.
Commending the dedication of the “Heal Komfo Anokye Project” team, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II encouraged them to formally launch the fundraising campaign.
He called upon the public and corporate entities to contribute to the fundraising efforts, ensuring the successful realization of the renovation project.
Otumfuo also designated Hiahene, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, as his representative on the project team.
Prof. Addai-Mensah, KATH’s CEO, expressed the urgency of providing the hospital with a fitting status and explained that while routine repairs were conducted over the years, comprehensive renovation was necessary due to the extensive wear and tear experienced over seven decades.
Samuel Adu-Boakye, the Chairman of the “Heal Komfo Anokye Project” team, outlined a comprehensive marketing and communication strategy to raise funds from the public and corporate Ghana. He highlighted the potential impact of even small individual contributions, aiming to rally one million Ghanaians to donate $10 each to meet the $10 million target swiftly.
The project’s lead architect, Kojo Darko-Asante, affirmed that the proposal was meticulously crafted by a team of technical and engineering experts.
The planned renovation is expected to transform the hospital’s wards into a world-class, patient-friendly facility upon successful implementation.
Daniel Bugri Naabu, the ex-Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has shed light on his engagements with high-ranking police officials who discussed their intention to replace the incumbent Inspector-General of Police (IGP), George Akufo-Dampare, from his position.
He directed them to seek assistance from spiritual practitioners known as “mallams,” as he believed that divine intervention played a significant role in leadership positions.
Bugri Naabu explained that if they aimed to secure the IGP position, seeking spiritual favor through these means was essential.
Bugri Naabu shared this information during his appearance before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee on August 28, 2023.
The committee has been established to investigate this issue.
The former NPP Northern Regional Chairman gained substantial attention when an audio recording surfaced, revealing senior police officers discussing a plot to remove the current IGP, George Akufo-Dampare.
Given the nature of the conversation involving high-ranking police officers, the leaked tape sparked a nationwide discussion.
In response to public concern, Parliament formed the Ad-Hoc Committee, chaired by Samuel Atta-Akyea, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South.
This committee’s mandate is to explore both the authenticity of the leaked tape and the intricate allegations that have captured the nation’s focus.

A media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah, has shared her perspective on the upcoming NPP Super Delegate run-off elections scheduled for September 2, 2023.
She has expressed the view that dedicating media resources to cover the event would be an unnecessary expenditure.
Through her social media platform, Nana Aba opined that a runoff between Francis Addai-Nimoh and Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko wouldn’t attract significant media attention, warranting comprehensive coverage.
She advised the contenders to gracefully accept their setbacks and explore other avenues.
She conveyed, “No media house will spend resources to cover a run-off between Nimo and Agyarko. They should both go and sit somewhere and carry their L.”
Nana Aba’s remarks were prompted by the New Patriotic Party’s announcement of a runoff election between the two politicians on September 2.
Both candidates received an equal number of nine votes at the recent Super Delegates Conference held on August 26.
The Super Delegates Conference aimed to select five candidates from a pool of ten for the upcoming November 4 presidential primaries.
The tie-breaking runoff became necessary to determine which candidate would advance to the primaries, joining Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, and Alan Kyeremanten in the flagbearer race.
The resumption of work on the halted PTC Interchange in Takoradi is set to begin by the end of September this year, offering a sigh of relief to affected commuters.
This is reassuring for individuals whose daily lives were greatly affected by the halted interchange construction.
The announcement of the restart date emerged in response to a query about the project during a community engagement led by , Member of Parliament for Takoradi, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah.
“The halt in the project is a great source of worry to me as well because I also use it. I know how significant it is considering how close it is to the Central Business District of Takoradi and also in terms of vehicular flow. Ever since the project was stopped we have been in constant engagements with the financiers and relevant stakeholders. Some agreements have been reached and work will resume before September ends.”
Expressing his own concern and acknowledging the project’s significance to the region, he stated, “Some agreements have been reached and work will resume before September ends.”
Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, also serving as the regional minister, initiated these community interactions to foster closer connections with constituents and collaboratively address their challenges.
Amanful West was one of the areas he visited, where residents shared similar concerns about the delay in the interchange construction.
“We have been able to complete 83 percent of the works on the interchange and as you can see not much is left. So we will definitely complete it,” he assured.
Initially slated for a 30-month timeline with completion projected for July of the current year, the three-tier PTC Interchange is part of a larger project under the Master Project Support Agreement between Ghana and the Chinese government.
Sinohydro Corporation, under a barter trade agreement, undertakes the project.
However, the project had to be suspended in January of the same year to meet one of the IMF conditions for Ghana’s bailout. This stipulation required the halt of projects under barter agreements.
Residents present at the community engagement are hopeful that the minister’s commitment will come to fruition.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has underscored the importance of a prospective presidential candidate within the party, Kennedy Agyapong.
Addressing the media, Chairman Wontumi emphasized that Kennedy Agyapong’s role within the party is crucial, highlighting his significant value as an asset.
Wontumi believes that the party would experience a substantial setback if they are to lose Mr Agyapong, as his presence serves as a protective shield for the party’s interests.
Additionally, he disclosed that he and Kennedy regularly exchange ideas and provide each other with advice, referring to their relationship as that of brothers.
“Kennedy Agyapong and myself are the popular people, you can like it or not. I told Kennedy he will be second, I spoke to him today. He is my senior brother. Kennedy should have looked for running mates. Kennedy is an asset, I am telling you I mentioned his name before me,” he added.
He made these remarks after the just ended Super Delegates Conference of the party.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto followed with 36 votes, securing the fourth position.
Both Mr. Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai Nimoh shared the fifth spot with nine votes each.

The former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has disclosed that he enlisted the assistance of someone to record the conversation featured in the leaked tape, which allegedly discussed a scheme to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
While testifying before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the leaked audio on Monday, Bugri Naabu clarified, “I didn’t do it myself, but I requested somebody who knows how to do the recording to come and do it for me. I didn’t use a phone; I went to the mall and got this ordinary tape.”
Mr. Naabu explained that he deemed the conversation with the three high-ranking police officers to be of immense importance and therefore chose to record it as evidence to present to the president.
He also disclosed that he shared a copy of the leaked tape with President Akufo-Addo.
Bugri Naabu also affirmed the authenticity of the controversial leaked tape, which is said to capture discussions about a plan to remove the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, from his position.
In a straightforward admission, Bugri Naabu confirmed that the pivotal conversation, causing controversy, indeed took place between himself and three other high-ranking Police Officers.
He proceeded to identify these three Police officers as Commander Asare, COP Mensah, and Superintendent Gyebi.
Additionally, Bugri Naabu disclosed that the conversation occurred within the confines of his office located in Osu, near the Osu Police Station.
According to his account, the two senior officers approached him with a proposition to advocate for the dismissal of the IGP. They cited the perception that Dr. Akuffo Dampare’s actions were aligning more closely with the opposition NDC’s interests, potentially undermining the ruling party’s prospects in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Bugri Naabu further revealed that he felt unsettled by the request from these top officers, leading him to record the conversation as a preventative measure against potential denials.
Under the leadership of Samuel Atta Akyea, a respected Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, the Ad-Hoc Committee includes Dr. Isaac Lartey Annan, a specialist in legal and human rights matters.
Endowed with the authority to investigate both the legitimacy of the leaked tape and the intricate accusations that have captivated the nation, this panel bears the responsibility of the inquiry.
Former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has provided the names of three police officers he alleges are involved in the viral leaked audio that revealed plans to depose Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo-Dampare.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee, established to probe the alleged conspiracy against the IGP, Chief Naabu identified the officers involved as Commander Asare, COP Mensah, and Superintendent Gyebi.
He revealed that the conversation occurred within his office, situated close to the Osu Police Station.
According to his testimony, the senior officers proposed advocating for the dismissal of the IGP, citing concerns about his perceived alignment with opposition NDC interests, which could potentially impact the ruling party’s electoral prospects in 2024.
Feeling uneasy about the request, Naabu claims to have recorded the discussion as a precaution against potential refutations.
The Ad-Hoc Committee, led by Samuel Atta-Akyea, an esteemed MP representing Abuakwa South, includes Dr. Isaac Lartey Annan, a specialist in legal and human rights matters. Tasked with authenticating the leaked recording and delving into the detailed allegations, this panel bears the responsibility of conducting the investigation.
On July 25th, the Speaker of Parliament appointed Samuel Atta-Akyea, the MP for Abuakwa South, to head a 7-member adhoc committee assigned to investigate a recently leaked controversial audio recording. The audio revealed undisclosed individuals secretly plotting to remove the Inspector General of Police.
This audio, which swiftly went viral, exposed a conspiracy involving a senior police officer and a prominent member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) aimed at ousting the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. This revelation ignited a spirited debate in Parliament, prompting the Minority to demand a forensic audit of the tape.
In response to these developments, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, suggested the establishment of the Special Committee to investigate the matter.
The former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, has affirmed the accuracy of the controversial leaked recording purportedly outlining a scheme to oust Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, from his post.
Bugri Naabu confirmed this revelation during his appearance before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee, established to probe the alleged conspiracy against the IGP.
In a straightforward acknowledgment, Bugri Naabu verified that the pivotal conversation, causing a stir, did indeed occur between himself and three other high-ranking Police Officers.
He proceeded to identify these three Police officers as Commander Asare, COP Mensah, and Superintendent Gyebi.
Adding more detail, Bugri Naabu disclosed that the discussion unfolded within the confines of his office situated in Osu, near the Osu Police Station.
As per his account, the two senior officers approached him with a proposition to advocate for the dismissal of the IGP.
Their reasoning behind this proposal, as conveyed by the officers, was that Dr. Akuffo-Dampare’s actions were perceived to be aligning more closely with the opposition NDC’s interests, potentially undermining the ruling party’s prospects in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Bugri Naabu further shared that he felt apprehensive about the request from these top officers, which led him to record the conversation as a safeguard against potential denials.
Guided by Samuel Atta-Akyea, a respected Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, the Ad-Hoc Committee includes Dr. Isaac Lartey Annan, a specialist in legal and human rights matters.
Empowered to scrutinize both the authenticity of the leaked recording and the intricate allegations that have captured the nation’s attention, this panel holds the responsibility of the investigation.
The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union has reiterated its concern over the abandonment of road maintenance projects near the country’s fuel depots by several contractors.
The Vice Chairman of the union, Sunday Alabi, stated that while some of the roads are currently usable, there remains a need for further enhancements.
In June, a nationwide strike organized by the tanker drivers nearly led to a fuel shortage across Ghana.
The strike aimed to draw attention to the deteriorating conditions of roads leading to the fuel depots.
During an interview with the media, Sunday Alabi cautioned that if the contractors do not resume their work, the union will be compelled to take action.
“As we speak now, the contractors are not on the road the way they started the work,” Alabi said.
“In Kumasi, there is no contractor now, and the same is true for Takoradi. They have made the roads passable, but they are not complete. Work has started, but for some time now, it has been slow. If you talk of the regional depots and Tema, it is true that the roads are passable, but they are not complete. We look forward to their promise of finishing it,” he said.
The strike by the tanker drivers led to shortages of gas at various Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) outlets across Ghana. This situation resulted in long queues forming at LPG outlets and increased pressure on the limited outlets with available supplies, according to the LPG Marketers Association.
Nonetheless, business operations resumed at several petrol and gas depots situated along the Volta Aluminum Company (VALCO) Kpong road in Tema on June 30.
The Presidential Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is preparing to present its findings to the party’s National Council following the recent Special Delegates’ Conference held on Saturday.
The committee’s report aims to offer valuable insights and recommendations for ensuring a smooth presidential election scheduled for November 4, 2023.
During the event, there were reports of isolated incidents of violence at certain polling centers. Allegations surfaced from both the camps of Kennedy Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central, and Alan Kyerematen, the former Trade Minister.
These allegations claimed that their representatives had been subjected to acts of aggression.
Additional candidates also raised concerns about the proceedings. Evans Nimako, the Director of Elections for the NPP, clarified that the National Council would address any disagreements that might have emerged during the election process.
Nimako stated, “Upon the conclusion of this overall process, which has so far been characterized by peace, fairness, and transparency towards all stakeholders, we will furnish the party’s National Council with a comprehensive report.
The National Council holds the prerogative to approve the findings assembled by the Elections Committee.”
Kennedy Agyapong issued a veiled threat to expose President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in relation to the reported attacks on his representatives during the ongoing party super delegates congress.
In a video that gained widespread attention, Agyapong could be seen speaking with visible anger on the phone, invoking the names of the president and vice president. He claimed that his representative had been forced out of a voting center and asserted his intention to take action against them.
The former Director of Communications for the NPP and spokesperson for Alan Kyerematen’s campaign, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, also expressed dissatisfaction with alleged rule breaches during the ongoing super delegates conference in the North East Region.
Asamoa also criticized the assault on their representative.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious in the NPP super delegates conference with a total of 629 votes, representing 68.15% of the ballots cast. Kennedy Agyapong secured second place with 132 votes (14.30%), while former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen secured third place with 95 votes (10.29%).
These results mean that Agyapong has successfully qualified for the NPP’s presidential primaries scheduled for November, alongside Bawumia. Notably, both Bawumia and Agyapong are first-time presidential contenders.
In contrast, Kyerematen has been a participant in the race since 2007 but has not yet secured the party’s nomination.
The upcoming November primaries will serve as a significant test for both Bawumia and Agyapong.
To become the NPP’s flagbearer, they will need to secure the support of over 200,000 delegates from various regions across the country.
The ultimate victor in the primaries will then face off against the National Democratic Congress’s John Dramani Mahama, the opposition’s candidate, in the broader December 2024 general election.
The Director of Elections and IT at the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has likened the recent super delegates conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to a conflict more intense than the Russia invasion of Ukraine.
This comparison comes as a response to the widespread violence that marred the elections in various regions of the country.
In a tweet, Dr. Boamah stated ” “NPP super delegates elections worse than Russia-Ukraine war”.
Former President John Dramani Mahama also weighed in on the matter, urging responsible and concerned Ghanaians to denounce the acts of aggression.
Former President Mahama voiced his astonishment at the escalation of violence within an internal competition. He connected this disturbing trend to the legacy of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Particularly, he recalled the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence and the tragic election-related fatalities of eight Ghanaians in 2020.
Through a series of tweets following the ruling party’s polling to select five candidates out of ten aspirants for the upcoming November Presidential Primary, the 2024 flagbearer of the NDC underscored his concern.
The polling on August 26th was marred by attacks on opponents. For instance, in the North East Region, a polling station agent of Alan Kyerematen, Ali Zakaria, sustained injuries from an attack, resulting in swollen eyes.
Furthermore, an agent representing Ken Agyapong in the Upper West Region allegedly had to flee the voting center due to threats, provoking the ire of the Assin Central lawmaker.
These incidents prompted Mr. Mahama to call for condemnation, as the electoral process should have taken place peacefully.
He lamented that violence has become the norm within the NPP, and emphasized the importance of denouncing such aggression, especially within an internal contest among members of the same party.
The NPP is set to choose its 2024 flagbearer from candidates including Dr. Bawumia, Mr. Kyerematen, Mr. Agyapong, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Boakye Agyarko or Francis Addai-Nimoh.
The selected candidate will face off against John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections.
The Canadian Housing Minister, Sean Fraiser, has stated that Canada is now dealing with rising housing costs, and that the government may limit international student visas to address the issue.
According to Reuters, Fraiser told reporters this on the sidelines of a cabinet retreat in the Atlantic province of Prince Edward Island on Monday, August 21.
“We’ve got temporary immigration programs that were never designed to see such explosive growth in such a short period of time,” he added.
The increase comes as Canada has become a favorite destination for overseas students due to the ease with which a work permit can be obtained.
Fraser, the previous immigration minister, stated that the steep increase in the number of students was putting significant strain on some housing markets.
The official opposition Conservative Party, which is leading in polls for a federal election that must be held by October 2025, has stated Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government is not doing enough to address the housing crisis.
Canada, which has a population of approximately 39.5 million people, intends to accept a record number of new permanent citizens in 2025. Fraser stated that restricting the number of newcomers was not the solution.
A 24-year-old housewife, was detained by men from the Bauchi state police command for reportedly killing her four-day-old stepson at Bantu village in Bauchi State, Ningi Local Government Area.
The command’s spokeswoman, SP Ahmed Wakil, told reporters that preliminary inquiry revealed that the suspect is a co-wife to the nursing mother (victim’s mother).
Wakil added that the incident was officially reported to the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters on August 19, 2023, which was four days subsequent to the baby’s birth.
He further stated that investigations are currently underway, and upon completion, charges will be filed against the suspect.
“The suspect entered the co-wife’s room with insecticide liquid (Gramalin) and applied it to the unhealed baby’s umbilical cord. The liquid which was suspected to be corrosively affected, led to the deterioration of the baby’s health and eventually led to his death,” he added.
Director General of the Ghana Highway Authority, Mr. Christian Nti emphasized that the success of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is linked to the quality of roads in participating nations.
Speaking at a business forum organized by the Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFiC) in Togo, he highlighted the importance of well-maintained roads for effective trade within Africa.
Nti addressed the forum, which brought together industry players from Ghana and Togo, in support of the AfCFTA secretariat’s efforts to establish a common market among participating African countries and beyond.
The AfCFTA is a significant initiative under Agenda 2063, aiming to enhance trade by eliminating barriers and promoting intra-African trade, value-added production, and economic integration.
Nti urged an investment of 80 percent of Africa’s resources into road infrastructure to facilitate efficient movement of goods and services, making trade more cost-effective than importing from other continents.
He noted that improved roads would benefit farmers by reducing post-harvest losses and encouraging increased agricultural production for both export and domestic use.
During discussions with Ghana’s Ambassador, Kofi Mensah Demitia, Nti encouraged Ghanaians to leverage the presence of the AfCFTA secretariat in Ghana to create opportunities for mutual benefit.
He emphasized that removing barriers and fostering collaboration between countries, such as Ghana and Togo, would lead to increased trade volumes and shared prosperity.
CEO of GITFiC, Mr. Selasi Koffi Ackom, stated that the organization’s main objective is to promote healthy trade among African countries. GITFiC has been actively raising awareness about the benefits of AfCFTA within the business community through engagements in various African countries.
Ackom also mentioned that GITFiC has published a book to support their promotional efforts, serving as a guide for achieving the goals of AfCFTA and beyond.
The government’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs Programme (PFJ) is under review, marking the onset of phase two involving the private sector.
Consequently, government subsidies on fertilizer and other farming inputs have been temporarily halted, according to Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister.
Despite this, a substantial quantity of fertilizers and farming inputs has been introduced into the region and is readily available in the open market this year for farmers’ access.
In phase two of the PFJ programme, the government‘s focus, as highlighted by Dr. Bin Salih, will be on the private sector to distribute subsidized farm inputs.
Dr. Bin Salih shared this information during a gathering of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council in Wa, attended by municipal and district chief executives, coordinators, presiding members, department heads, institutions, and agencies.
The meeting centered on crucial topics, notably government interventions and their effects on the populace’s welfare.
He noted that the Regional Directorate of the Department of Food and Agriculture revealed that adverse rainfall patterns had curtailed the planting window for many farmers who were cultivating extensive farmlands.
As a result, the cultivated land area for this year has diminished. However, close observation of crop performance assures food security.
Over the past four years, a significant number of agriculture extension officers have been recruited to enhance the department’s staffing situation.
These officers have been deployed to provide advisory services to every farmer in the fields.
According to Article 255 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, the Regional Coordinating Council is mandated to convene at least twice a year, fostering idea exchange, issue advice, and make appropriate decisions for the people’s benefit.
During the meeting, various assemblies presented reports concerning infrastructural development, security, and government interventions’ social and economic impact on community living conditions.
Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has stated that the New Patriotic Party‘s (NPP) educational change should motivate Ghanaians to vote for the party again in the 2024 general election.
According to him, the electorate must examine the NPP’s achievements in the education sector in order to retain the party in power for another eight years.
“So what I am saying to Ghanaians is that they should look at the educational sector and what we are doing. You might not be happy with other sectors of the government, but consider the progress in education,” he added.
Speaking to the media, the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe in the Ashanti region stated that the implementation of initiatives like free senior high school education, free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), as well as the transformation of junior high school education, deserves recognition from the people.
“If other sectors haven’t done well, forgive us and consider education. Help us to continue to change Ghana,” Dr. Adutwum stressed.
