“He shouldn’t be walking around freely” – Sarkodie, Lydia Forson, celebrities demand arrest of ‘pedophilic’ presenter

Ghanaian celebrities, including rapper Sarkodie, have joined growing public calls for the arrest of a radio presenter who openly confessed to engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old girl.

In a viral video, the presenter spoke on Sompa FM about how he had a sexual relationship with the girl from when she was 14 years old until she completed Kumasi Academy.

Actress Lydia Forson expressed concern that the victim would be blamed while the abuser would be excused.

Sarkodie responded to Forson’s post, stating that the presenter “should not be walking around freely” and calling for his arrest.

Similar demands for the presenter’s arrest are being made by numerous social media users who are condemning his confession of pedophilia.

In a viral social media video, the presenter, speaking on Sompa FM, shared a story about how he engaged in a sexual relationship with a girl from the age of 14.

“I started having sex with a girl at the age of 14… Her father was a wealthy man in Dormaa Ahenkro, she had a body, and I slept with her from class six until she completed Kumasi Academy,” he stated.

  • CJ’s request for a minimum of 20 justices of the Supreme Court unreasonable – Private legal practitioner

CJ’s request for a minimum of 20 justices of the Supreme Court unreasonable – Private legal practitioner

Legal practitioner Kwaku Asare has criticized Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo‘s request for a minimum of 20 Supreme Court justices to handle around 600 cases annually, calling it unreasonable.

He pointed out that many Supreme Courts worldwide manage double or triple that caseload with about seven justices.

Chief Justice Torkornoo has proposed expanding the bench to 20 justices due to the high volume of cases.

She recently nominated five judges to the Supreme Court, citing the urgent need for more judges to meet the nation’s justice needs.

“Two days are used for panel sitting, and one day for the sitting of a single judge. The SCOG therefore sits 12 times a month. On any given day of sitting, the court deals with a minimum of 15 cases and so works on not fewer than 45 matters in a week or approximately 180 matters in a month,” she clarified.

In response, Asare argued on Facebook that requiring 20 justices compromises the principle of a balanced panel.

He expressed concern that the Chief Justice’s push to promote specific judges has undermined the court’s integrity.

“It is unreasonable to require a minimum of 20 Supreme Court Justices to handle approximately 600 cases annually. In comparison, many Supreme Courts around the world manage double or triple that number of cases with about seven Justices.

“To uphold the principle of ‘a panel of equals,’ it is essential that no Supreme Court Justice feels indebted to the Chief Justice for their appointment. The Chief Justice’s request to promote certain judges has irreparably compromised the integrity of the bench.”

Meanwhile, Attorney-General Godfred Dame defended the Chief Justice’s request, noting that Ghana’s Supreme Court operates uniquely and rejecting accusations of court-packing by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“What I am aware of is the request from Chief Justice, I believe that the Judiciary is no doubt better placed to provide ample justification for the need for an enhanced Supreme Court, but again it is worthy to note that the Supreme Court of Ghana is quite unique and different from other Supreme Courts around the world,” he said in an interview on the sidelines of the United States Independence Day Event at the Embassy Garden in Accra.”

SSNIT operations have seen much improvement under this current board- Osafo-Maafo

Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, the Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), highlighted significant operational improvements under the current board.

He emphasized resolving inherited issues, citing enhanced efficiency and the successful resolution of legacy challenges.

Notably, SSNIT’s real estate investments, including a $185 million project initiated in 2016, are undergoing asset disposals, with substantial savings achieved on projects like the Westhills Ridge, totaling $30 million.

“Let me make another point that is worth stressing and that is what the board and management of SSNIT have achieved since I have been there since 2017 and I can speak to the track record and changes that have been put in place.

“When we look at the operational improvements that have been brought in, the efficiency of the SSNIT’s operation has been much better. If you look at the legacy issues and the magnitude of what we inherited, we have resolved them positively.

“The contracts that SSNIT went in to do real estate as far back as 2016 involved an investment of $185 million and we are in the process of disposing of approximately 20 percent of those real estate assets and we are continuing to do that. In cost-saving measures, the saving alone that we made on the Westhills Ridge project is $30 million.”

“I can go through other real estate investments that began a few years ago and we have just completed the largest affordable housing project in the country in Kumasi. We have also put in a set of investments that will outlive me to put the Trust in the best position,” Mr. Osafo-Maafo said in Cti FM on Monday, July 15 while touching on the discontinuation of the move to sell 60 percent shares in the four hotels belonging to SSNIT.

Additionally, SSNIT recently completed Kumasi’s largest affordable housing project and implemented long-term investments aimed at securing the Trust’s future sustainability.

“The Board and management of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) wish to inform the public that the process to divest 60% of SSNIT’s stake in the hotels has been terminated,” Board Chair of SSNIT Elizabeth Akua Ohene said in the statement.

Regarding recent developments, SSNIT announced the termination of plans to sell 60% of its shares in four hotels following public and labor union opposition.

Initially set in motion in 2018, the sale faced scrutiny and protests, prompting intervention from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), which temporarily suspended negotiations pending further review.

Employment and Labor Relations Minister Ignatius Baffour Awuah confirmed NPRA’s compliance verification process but clarified it did not outright prevent SSNIT from proceeding, leading to SSNIT’s decision to terminate the sale.

Stabilizing the Cedi with cash received from IMF is not sustainable – Kwakye

Dr. John Kwaye of the Institute of Economic Affairs has criticized Ghana‘s reliance on IMF disbursements to stabilize the Cedi, deeming it unsustainable.

He advocates for leveraging Ghana’s natural resources for foreign exchange instead, emphasizing the need for the country to assert greater control over its resource wealth.

This stance comes amid recent efforts, including an International Monetary Fund (IMF) disbursement and eased corporate demand, which have temporarily stabilized the Cedi against the US dollar.

The Cedi is reported to have held steady against the US dollar (US$), buoyed by improved market sentiments as FX demand eased.

This stability follows the IMF board’s approval and subsequent release of funds after the second review of its 36-month Extended Credit Facility (ECF).

The Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam had announced on Monday that the third tranche was expected to hit the Bank of Ghana account by the close of today Monday, July 1.

“The Cedi has been under pressure in recent times, however, the exchange rate has largely stabilised since 2023. Year-to date depreciation of the cedi against the US$ is 18.4% compared to 22.0% recorded in the same period in 2023.

“The key measures we are implementing to deal with the recent depreciation include: tight monetary policy by the BoG; deepening the ongoing fiscal consolidation programme; intensifying the gold-for-oil programme and the BoG’s gold-for-reserves programme; and anticipated Forex inflows from disbursements from our multilateral and bilateral institutions as well as private sector financial institutions.

“These include the IMF 3rd Tranche of US$360 million which will be disbursed to Ghana by close of business today Monday 1st July 2024, following the IMF Executive Board approval of the 2nd Review last Friday; the IMF 4th Tranche of US$360 million expected in Q4 of 2024 after IMF Executive Board approves the 3rd Review; the World Bank DP02 tranche of US$300 million expected in Q3 of 2024; and disbursements from bilateral institutions/financial institutions including the World Bank GARID Project (US$150 million), EBID facility of US$200 million for SME support, and anticipated proceeds from 2024/2025 Cocobod syndication of up to US$1.5 billion in Q4 of 2024.”

Approximately 2 million youth are not in education, employment or training – GSS

The 2023 Annual Household Income and Expenditure Survey (AHIES) by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) highlighted significant findings on youth aged 15 to 35 not in education, employment, or training (NEET). As of the third quarter of 2023, this group totaled 1.9 million, with females comprising 1.2 million and males 715,691.

The Greater Accra Region had the highest concentration of NEET youth, with 565,360 individuals, followed by the Ashanti Region (352,503), Central Region (155,171), Eastern Region (143,601), and Western Region (137,865).

Females had a higher NEET rate (21%) compared to males (15%), reflecting a 6-percentage-point disparity. Greater Accra had the highest NEET rate among regions (26.9%), followed by the North East Region (19.5%).

Comparing 2022 and 2023, the national youth NEET rate decreased from 24.1% to 18.2%, with Greater Accra being the only region to experience a slight increase. Overall, the number of NEET youth decreased by 462,998 during this period.

The 2024 World Youth Skills Day underscored the importance of targeted interventions to bridge the gaps in education, employment, and training opportunities for Ghana’s youth, aligning with the theme “Youth Skills for Peace and Development.”

“Greater Accra had the highest NEET rate with a little over a quarter (26.9%) of the population 15 to 35 years not engaged in education, employment, or training. North East Region (19.5%) had the second highest rate with about one in five youth NEET,” GSS said.

“In all, the total number of youth NEET decreased by almost half a million (462,998) over the period. Between the third quarters of 2022 and 2023, the percentage of youth NEET declined in all regions except Greater Accra which experienced a marginal increase of 0.5 percentage points,” the report added.

Be stylish in your dressing to maintain your husband’s interest – Diana Asamoah tells married women

Ghanaian gospel musician Diana Asamoah recently advised wives to embrace stylish dressing to help maintain their marriages.

During a segment on UTV’s ‘UCook’ with Empress Gifty, Asamoah suggested that the way some women present themselves contributes to marital issues, noting that dressing well can prevent husbands from leaving.

She emphasized that looking good, even in the kitchen, is important, and she shared her belief that being stylish can coexist with Christian values, advocating for modest and tasteful attire as part of one’s spiritual expression.

“Slay in dressing so that your husband does not leave you. The devil did not destroy some people’s marriages. It is because of the way they present themselves and dress. The sight of some women in the kitchen can make you leave. A female should look good in the kitchen,” she said.

“Slaying is in Christianity. I used to say that being shabby is spiritual. That’s why I have to come say it is not. I now understand God more. Sometimes people follow you to God not from your preaching alone but from how you look.”

“You can live a good life while still being a Christian. You can wear nice dresses without revealing too much, you can wear a simple wig to make you look beautiful,” she added.

I can state with certainty, my marriage is in excellent standing – A Plus’ wife

Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus) and his wife, Violet Obeng, known as ‘Akosua Vee,’ have responded firmly to allegations involving A Plus and Ghanaian presenter MC Yaa Yeboah.

In a detailed social media post, Akosua Vee denied the claims that her husband fathered a child with MC Yaa Yeboah.

She emphasized that neither she nor her husband is aware of any such “baby mama” and refuted any involvement in scandalous affairs.

Akosua Vee stated that if her husband had engaged in such activities, it would remain a private family matter, not for public discussion.

“I can state with utmost certainty that my marriage and family are in excellent standing. I have not met any ‘baby mama,’ nor has my husband been involved in any alleged scandalous extramarital affair. Any such rumors should be summarily dismissed as baseless speculation.

“Furthermore, I would like to emphasize that I’m married to a responsible man and no amount of attempt to tarnish his reputation and that of his family will hold. Let me also confirm that I am currently residing outside of the country, rendering the alleged ‘family sittings’ a complete fabrication.

“And should my esteemed spouse have engaged in any extramarital entanglements resulting in the birth of a child, that would have been our business and nobody else’s,” she wrote.

The allegations surfaced during a dispute between Afia Schwarzenegger and UTV entertainment pundit MC Yaa Yeboah.

Afia accused MC Yaa Yeboah of having an affair with A Plus and bearing his child, aiming to criticize Yeboah’s judgments of Ghanaian celebrities on the United Showbiz show.

Afia argued that Yeboah had no moral right to criticize others given her alleged involvement with a married man.

The notion that women don’t support each other is inaccurate – Kaffy

Kafayat Shafau, widely known as Kaffy, recently spoke out about the troubling trend of dancers using their art as a cover for prostitution.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, she expressed concern that many young women are prioritizing the sexual aspects of dance over its true creative expression.

“Dance is not just about making money,” Kaffy emphasized. “Unfortunately, some dancers are using it as a platform to sell their bodies rather than showcasing their skills. However, the dance industry is growing rapidly, offering opportunities for various forms of expression.”

Kaffy stressed the importance of maintaining integrity in dance. “Dance is an art form, and it’s crucial to draw clear boundaries,” she explained. “I personally choose not to cross certain lines, believing that sensuality in dance doesn’t require nudity.”

Offering advice to aspiring dancers, Kaffy urged them to stay true to their passion and resist pressures to compromise their values. “Authenticity is key,” she said. “There’s a wide range of career paths within dance, from coaching and dance science to roles in therapy and injury prevention, beyond just performing in music videos or clubs.”

Addressing stereotypes about women in the industry, Kaffy challenged the notion that women don’t support each other as much as men do. “This perception is not accurate,” she argued. “Women can be just as supportive as men, though their expressions of disagreement may be more visible. Both genders are capable of both supporting and undermining each other.”

In her remarks, Kaffy highlighted the complexity of navigating the dance industry with integrity while encouraging a broader understanding of the art form’s potential beyond its commercial aspects.

Dance isn’t about hustling but showcasing your creative moves- Popular dancer

Renowned dancer and choreographer Kafayat Shafau, known as Kaffy, has raised concerns about the exploitation of dance for prostitution.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, she lamented that many girls use dance as a facade for selling their bodies, which undermines the true essence of the art form.

“Dance is not about hustling,” Kaffy emphasized. “Unfortunately, the focus often shifts to the sexual aspect instead of genuine dance skills. Nevertheless, the industry’s rapid growth provides room for various expressions and approaches.”

Kaffy stressed the importance of maintaining integrity in dance. “Dance is an art, but it can sometimes become overly sensual. I set clear boundaries for myself; there are limits I won’t cross. Being sexy or sensual doesn’t necessitate nudity,” she said.

She encouraged aspiring dancers to remain authentic and resist pressures to conform. “Stay true to your passion. There’s no need to alter your body to fit in. The dance world offers diverse career paths, including executive roles, coaching, dance science, injury prevention, and therapy, beyond just performing in music videos and clubs.”

Addressing the stereotype about women not supporting each other, Kaffy argued that this perception is misleading. “The idea that women don’t support each other is a misconception. Men have their own rivalries, and the ‘bro code’ doesn’t negate that. This belief is often shaped by popular narratives.”

She added, “Women are more emotionally expressive, making their disapproval more visible. It’s easier to notice tension among women, but both genders can be supportive or undermining towards each other.”

Kaffy highlighted the importance of maintaining boundaries in dance, noting, “Dance is an art form, but the lines can get blurred with sensual expressions. Personally, I set limits; there are clothes I won’t wear and boundaries I won’t cross. Being sexy or sensual doesn’t require nudity.”

She advised aspiring dancers to stay true to their passion without giving in to external pressures. “Choose your path authentically. Don’t feel compelled to alter your body. Kaffy also addressed the stereotype that women don’t support each other as much as men do. She refuted this notion, stating, “The idea that women don’t support each other is a misconception. Akosua Vee took to social media to refute claims that her husband fathered a child with MC Yaa Yeboah, stating unequivocally that neither she nor A Plus has any knowledge of such a “baby mama.” She insisted that her husband has not been involved in any scandalous affair and if there were any such issues, they would handle them privately within their family.

“My marriage and family are in excellent standing. I have not met any ‘baby mama,’ nor has my husband been involved in any alleged scandalous extramarital affair. Such rumors are baseless and should be dismissed.

Sack SSNIT board, top management before you call of strike – UTAG to govt

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has called for a complete overhaul of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) board, along with the immediate resignation of its top management team.

This demand follows widespread protests against SSNIT’s planned sale of its 60% stake in four hotels to a private hotel owned by Ghana’s Minister of Food and Agriculture.

In a statement issued on Saturday, July 13, 2024, signed by the UTAG President Prof Mamudu Akudugu and General Secretary Prof Eliasu Mumuni, UTAG said, “Those in positions of power within SSNIT must step down to allow new people with a better appreciation of the enormity of the responsibility of managing pension funds to take over and restore public trust and ensure that such actions are not repeated in the future.”

Although the outcry led to the deal’s cancellation, UTAG criticized the board and management for their involvement, citing it as a failure in decision-making and accountability.

UTAG emphasized the need for new leadership at SSNIT, stating that current officials have shown a disconnect from public opinion and a lack of understanding in managing pension funds responsibly.

“Their initial decision to proceed with this transaction, despite widespread public outcry, indicates a disregard for the sentiments and welfare of the broader populace. This action has undermined confidence in the board and management’s capacity to manage our pension funds and assets prudently and transparently.”

Additionally, UTAG supported organized labor’s call for a nationwide strike over SSNIT’s actions, expressing concern over the handling of pension funds and assets.

They underscored the importance of restoring public trust and preventing similar incidents in the future through transparent and prudent management practices.

She recounted booking her own flight to Ghana for the United Showbiz program, where a comment she made led to a lawsuit against the station.

Despite hiring lawyers for other panelists, Afia Schwarzenegger claimed she had to find and pay for her own legal representation.

She expressed hurt over Fadda Dickson allegedly warning her not to acknowledge their friendship publicly ahead of the court date, despite him facilitating her involvement in the show.

“There were three or four lawyers for UTV, and I had to get my own lawyer. A day before we went to court, I was in Amsterdam, and Fadda Dickson called to tell me that I shouldn’t greet him when I see him because he doesn’t want people to know that we were friends. Let me die if I am telling lies. Meanwhile, it was through you that I got into trouble” she said.

“The first day in court, McBrown asked why I did not greet them, but I couldn’t say anything. I used my own money to book a flight for the interview, but when the issue came, I was left alone. So, what does he say about me in public that he didn’t want anybody to know we were close? Kwame Despite hired a lawyer for all those on the programme except me,” she recounted in Twi during an Instagram live session.

In an Instagram live session, she criticized the perceived lack of loyalty and value of loyalty in Ghanaian relationships, advising against unwavering loyalty due to perceived neglect in times of need.

“Loyalty in Ghana has no value; don’t be loyal to anyone because they treat you like a dog,” she added.

The legal issue stemmed from comments made on the show regarding Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, resulting in fines and jail sentences for some involved, including Afia Schwarzenegger for contempt of court.

Ghanaian socialite Afia Schwarzenegger recently revealed details about feeling abandoned by the Managing Director of Despite Media Group, Fadda Dickson, and CEO Osei Kwame Despite during a legal issue related to a UTV show.

She explained that following a controversial comment made on the United Showbiz program, legal action ensued against the station, but she was left to handle her defense alone.

While other panelists had legal representation provided by the station, Schwarzenegger had to secure her own lawyer and cover her legal expenses.

She expressed disappointment when Fadda Dickson advised her not to publicly acknowledge their friendship just before her court appearance.

Schwarzenegger highlighted feeling hurt by the lack of support, despite having booked her own flight to return to Ghana for the program.

She emphasized her independence in managing the legal consequences and cautioned against excessive loyalty, believing it often goes unappreciated in crucial times.

“Loyalty in Ghana has no value; don’t be loyal to anyone because they treat you like a dog,” she added.

What’s wrong if I had an affair with MC Yaa Yeboah? – A Plus quizzes

Kwame A Plus recently responded to allegations of an extramarital affair after his wife denied the claims.

In a video posted online, he addressed the controversy with mixed messages.

On one hand, he questioned the significance of his personal conduct, suggesting that his achievements and societal standing should mitigate any concerns about his private life.

He specifically commented on MC Yaa Yeboah‘s attractiveness, implying that there should be no issue if he had relations with someone like her.

“What’s wrong if I sleep with someone? Look at all that I have achieved in life, my esteemed reputation in society. What’s wrong if I sleep with someone or even father children with someone? Such things don’t intimidate me. Someone claims they have information about me, and it turns out to be merely about my sexual affair with someone. Really?
Asserting his resilience, A Plus dismissed the idea that these allegations could harm his political ambitions, confidently stating, “Such things don’t intimidate me, and those who think it could hinder me politically are mistaken.”

Turning to his friend Afia Schwarzenegger, who initially raised the affair claims, A Plus expressed disappointment at their public dispute, urging reconciliation for the sake of their relationship and families.

He emphasized his continued support for Afia despite their current disagreement.

“Afia, you are my sister, and we shouldn’t be doing this. Now, we’re allowing our enemies to mock us because they’re happy we’re fighting each other. Your children are my nephews and niece. I’ve stood by you, and you know it. I was with you throughout your court case, and even with this issue, I’ll still stand by you when you need me.”
This response contrasts sharply with his wife’s earlier denial, highlighting a public rift over the allegations that has captured attention on social media.

Cheddar to run as independent candidate in 2024 election due to party registration challenges

Nana Kwame Bediako, leader of The New Force Movement, has declared his candidacy as an independent in the upcoming presidential elections following challenges in registering his party with the Electoral Commission (EC).

Despite submitting required forms on September 12, 2023, The New Force only received a provisional certificate after an eight-month delay. This delay, according to Bediako, hindered effective campaigning within the allotted timeframe.

“At this point, pursuing a full party license in time for the elections is impractical. Therefore, we have decided to proceed with an independent candidacy,” Bediako stated at a press conference held at Kwarleys Residence this morning.

Bediako emphasized that his decision to run independently stems from his commitment to national development, free from bureaucratic obstacles. He assured Ghanaians of his dedication to economic freedom, equity, equality, and empowerment for all citizens.

“This campaign aims to revolutionize our future. Running as an independent allows us to bypass entrenched interests and bureaucratic delays, focusing on unlocking our nation’s vast potential,” Bediako explained.

He also outlined his vision for Ghana, emphasizing fostering democracy, ambition, and entrepreneurship among citizens. Bediako reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the people, aiming to ensure all voices are heard and represented.

Bediako’s announcement has garnered significant interest and support among his followers, who view his independent bid as a potential catalyst for change in Ghana’s political landscape.

“After eight months of waiting and only receiving a provisional license, it has become clear that pursuing a full party license in time for the elections is impractical. Therefore, we have decided to proceed with an independent candidacy,” Bediako stated.

“This campaign is a revolution for a prosperous future. Running as an independent allows us to bypass entrenched interests and bureaucratic delays, focusing instead on unleashing the immense potential of our nation’s resources and people,” Bediako explained.

74-year-old Ghanaian living in UK for nearly 50 years granted indefinite leave to stay

The UK’s Home Office recently granted Nelson Shardey, a retired Ghanaian shopkeeper who has lived in the United Kingdom UK for nearly 50 years, indefinite leave to remain.

Shardey, 74, moved to the UK in 1977 as a student and settled in Wallasey, Wirral.

His application for a UK passport in 2019, following his mother’s death, initially faced rejection on grounds of residency status.

Despite being directed to a costly 10-year settlement route, his case was eventually recognized as exceptional by the government.

Shardey’s life in the UK included various jobs and community contributions, such as running his own newsagent business and receiving a police bravery award in 2007.

Married twice to British citizens, he has two sons.

His legal battle, supported by extensive community fundraising, successfully argued for his right to remain based on his long-term residence and contributions to society.

Following the Home Office’s decision to grant indefinite leave and waive fees, Shardey expressed immense relief and gratitude for the support received.

His family plans to donate raised funds to charitable causes.

Advocates hope his case prompts reforms to simplify immigration procedures and reduce financial burdens on applicants in similar situations.

Mr Shardey’s lawyer, Nicola Burgess of Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit, said she was thrilled at the decision.

“Nelson’s bravery in the face of dysfunctional immigration system has been inspirational,” said Ms Burgess.

She urged the new government to simplify the system to avoid “many more” like Mr Shardey, being forced into “an endless cycle of applications, bureaucracy and expensive fees”.

Mr Shardey’s sons, Aaron and Jacob, said his victory “means the absolute world to us”.

“We are so grateful to our legal team… and everyone who supported us… from sharing our story to donating, we cannot thank you enough,” they added.

I’m open to composing campaign songs for any political party – Barima Sydney

Hiplife icon Barima Sidney recently expressed openness to performing on political campaign platforms and composing campaign songs for various parties.

In an interview on 3FM Drive on July 11, Sidney defended musicians who engage in such activities, emphasizing that it’s a professional opportunity akin to performing for friends or corporate events.

He clarified that as long as he performs without endorsing any party visually, he sees no issue in accepting such engagements, including composing campaign songs for payment.

Addressing past accusations about his songs ‘Papa No’ and ‘Our Money’ being critical of the NDC party, Sidney reiterated on the show with Giovani Caleb that these songs were not intended as political attacks but rather as expressions from his personal perspective.

He urged the public to disregard any misconceptions about his artistic intentions.

“Let’s say I have a friend and he invites me to come perform, I will go a doctor friend too invites me I will go, why not the politician. So far as I am going there to perform my music without wearing any party colours and holding some flag, I will go.

“Even as we sit here, if NDC invites me Sidney come and perform for us, I will go so far as you pay me,” he noted.

“As for that one the money go big, it’s allowed,” Sidney Barima responded when asked if he is open to composing campaign songs for political parties.

“The idea wasn’t to ridicule any political party. It was me coming from the streets then telling him [John Mahama] and in the same song he said something to calming us down,” he added.

Renowned musician and politician Rex Omar has pledged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), if successful in the upcoming December elections, will address tax challenges faced by Ghana’s entertainment industry with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

In a recent appearance on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show, Omar criticized GRA’s aggressive tax collection tactics at events, emphasizing the importance of considering event organizers’ financial burdens.

“It is unprofessional and inappropriate for GRA to demand tax payments at events without understanding the financial investment organizers have made,” he stated.

Omar elaborated on the NDC’s ‘The Black Star Experience’ policy, aimed at bolstering Ghana’s creative arts and culture sector. He assured that under John Dramani Mahama’s leadership, the party would negotiate tax incentives with Corporate Ghana to support the creative industry.

Highlighting the unfairness of taxing event tickets without assessing organizers’ expenses, Omar pointed out potential taxation even when events don’t break even.

“We will also engage Corporate Ghana to provide tax incentives for companies supporting the creative industry,” he added.

Emphasizing the NDC’s strategy to foster the creative economy for sustainable employment and attract foreign investment, Omar stated, “Our goal is to grow this industry to export cultural products and attract foreign investment to support our economy.”

While affirming that GRA would maintain a presence at events, Omar stressed that their authority would be tempered under NDC governance.

John Mahama’s ‘The Black Experience’ initiative, part of the NDC’s campaign, aims to revitalize Ghana’s creative industry with programs such as Pan African Month, Ghana Film Festival and Awards Month, Ghanaian Heritage and History Month, Fashion and Food Month, and Diasporan Month. This comprehensive policy framework aims to significantly boost Ghana’s tourism and creative arts sectors.

During a conversation with renowned fashion stylist and influencer Charlie Dior at the Ghana Entertainment Awards red carpet, she emphasized the importance of attention-seeking in show business.

“If the person is seeking attention for show business, I think it makes sense. That’s why it’s called show business. You just have to know how to manoeuvre yourself,” she said.

In March 2024, Chef Smith gained significant attention for his purported Guinness World Record attempt for the Longest Cooking Marathon by an individual. He held a press conference at La Palm Beach Hotel to announce his recognition by the organization. However, it was later discovered that Guinness World Records had no record of such an application or attempt from him.

Deputy Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe criticized remarks made by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin about older women during a parliamentary session.

She expressed disappointment, highlighting the unfairness of targeting and criticizing women for aging while men are not subjected to the same scrutiny.

In a viral video shared on Instagram, she stated, “If women are aging, it is not a crime, just as it is not a crime for men. Attacking women, especially once they cross 40 years, must stop. Men who speak down on old women cannot do all night long,” Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe stated.

Kwaku Manu emphasized that President Nana Addo cannot be compared to former president John Agyekum Kufour, who maintained a stable exchange rate of $1 to GH₵1 during his tenure. He pointed out that even President Kufour never sought to equate his accomplishments with those of Kwame Nkrumah.

“Even our former president, Kufour, who maintained a one-dollar, one-cedi rate, never compared himself to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Not once. Listen to me, he never did that,” Kwaku Manu stated in a live TikTok video shared on X, formerly Twitter.

Kwaku Manu underscored Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s role as the pioneer of Ghana’s post-independence industrialization, responsible for numerous enduring infrastructures and factories.

“For instance, the Tema motorway, built over 50 years ago, is still in use today. Nowadays, governments construct roads that deteriorate within three days,” he remarked.

Kwaku Manu questioned NAPO’s comparison, highlighting, “Are you trying to compare yourself to Kwame Nkrumah? He established a shoe factory, I’m talking about what he did, not what he promised to do. He also set up a car tire factory; where is that factory now?”

Church scam: Nana Agradaa coordinating the testimony of 50 witnesses to support her defense in court

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, also known as ‘Nana Agradaa‘, is reportedly organizing testimony from 50 witnesses to support her defense in a fraud case.

She was arrested on October 9, 2022, following allegations of defrauding church members during an overnight service.

Initially admitting guilt to charges including fraudulent advertising and obtaining money under false pretenses, she spent two weeks in remand before being granted bail of GH₵150,000 with three sureties, one requiring justification.

Recent updates from Angel FM indicate that the police have presented three witnesses against Agradaa in court.

Her lawyer, Mr. Theophilus Donkor, filed a plea of no case, arguing insufficient evidence and unreliable prosecution witnesses.

The court has granted Agradaa’s defense team the opportunity to call their own witnesses, with a deadline set for August to prepare for their testimonies.

“The police have presented their case with three witnesses testifying. However, Nana Agradaa’s lawyer, Mr. Theophilus Donkor, was not satisfied with the case, deeming it baseless and the prosecution witnesses untrustworthy.

“He filed a ‘Submission of no case’ and the court accepted it, allowing Agradaa’s team to prepare their witnesses. Agradaa’s lawyer stated they are arranging for 50 witnesses to testify, and the court has given them ample time; from now till August, to finalize their preparations.”

I’m ready to represent Mahama to debate Bawumia on the economy – Basintale

Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale has expressed readiness to engage in a debate with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Bawumia recently challenged John Mahama to a debate, accusing him of avoiding discussions that would expose weaknesses in his policies.

Addressing supporters at a rally in Bunkpurugu during his campaign tour, Bawumia emphasized his eagerness to debate Mahama on economic and governmental issues, criticizing what he perceives as vague policies from the opposition.

“I am looking forward to a debate with John Mahama on the economy, on the country, on the government. But I am afraid that he is running away from a debate. His people say he doesn’t want to debate. But he doesn’t want to debate because he knows I’ll expose the emptiness of his policies.

“He says he has a 24-hour economy that he cannot explain. It is as empty as an empty barrel. He cannot explain, none of his people can explain. They say they will be exporting lions and elephants. But when we meet, we can debate, and Ghanaians will see where our policies lie. And that is the way we should go,” he said.

Many party sympathizers of the NDC have spoken against Mahama accepting the request with many asserting it will be a downgrade to his personality.

The latest to come forth in this fracas is the NDC Malik Basintale who has availed himself to debate Bawumia at any given time.

False preachers have a larger following – Oheema Mercy

Gospel star Ohemaa Mercy expressed concern over the lack of discernment among Christians during an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

Addressing Romeo’s observation that some church leaders’ sermons are unprofitable, Ohemaa Mercy agreed, stating that if believers truly have the spirit of God within them, they would be warned through discernment when encountering deceptive preaching.

She lamented that many Christians find themselves in the wrong places, attracted to preachers who spread falsehoods yet command large followings.

“If indeed the spirit of God is within you as you sit in the chapel listening to the preacher’s lies and deception, he [the spirit] will warn you through the discernment spirit and tell you that you’re at the wrong place,” she added.

Ohemaa Mercy attributed this troubling trend to a misplaced faith in religious leaders rather than in God.

She criticized the phenomenon of personality worship among Christians and the abuse of power by some religious leaders. Highlighting extreme examples, she condemned the practice of treating bodily fluids from religious leaders as sacred.

“We are constantly lied to because we feel that God is the person standing there. We believe in man more than God,” she said, perplexed that even bodily fluids like “urine” and “spittle” from religious leaders are considered hallowed by some.

“Some will collect the spittle and apply it on themselves because they see the person as God,” Ohemaa Mercy bemoaned, strongly warning: “Be very careful!”

“Mind what you are doing because you are on slippery ground,” she cautioned.

She urged believers to be cautious and mindful, warning them about the dangers of misplaced trust.

Despite the concerning behavior, she encouraged her audience to focus on developing a personal relationship with God rather than seeking out human intermediaries.

The singer stressed that God is always accessible and responsive to genuine prayers, emphasizing that the problem lies in believers not being close to Him.

“There’s a God who answers prayer in the twinkling of an eye. The only issue is you are not friends with him, and so you see him so far away. You have now thought to yourself that he is in humans, so you have also put your trust in humans,” the Ote Me Mu hitmaker admonished.

She expressed disbelief at the miraculous claims made by some deceitful preachers, such as promising to heal decapitation, and prayed for God’s mercy.

In her concluding remarks, Ohemaa Mercy urged Christians to redirect their faith and efforts toward God instead of relying on fallible human leaders.

“I plead for the mercy of God,” the humanitarian and Edin Jesus hitmaker prayed.

We believe in man more than God – Oheema Mercy on current church practices

Gospel star Ohemaa Mercy has expressed her concerns about the lack of discernment among Christians.

Speaking to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo on Thursday, July 11, 2024, she agreed with Romeo’s observation that some church leaders’ preaching is not beneficial to their congregations.

“If the spirit of God truly resides within you, it will warn you through discernment if you are listening to deceitful preaching,” she said.

Ohemaa Mercy lamented that many Christians find themselves in the wrong places, following deceitful preachers who ironically attract large followings.

She attributed this to people looking up to men rather than God.

The award-winning Gospel artist criticized the worship of religious leaders and the abuse of power within churches.

She noted with dismay that some Christians revere bodily fluids like urine and spittle from these leaders, considering them sacred. “Be very careful!” she warned, cautioning against such practices and emphasizing the importance of discernment.

Ohemaa Mercy urged Christians to focus on building a personal relationship with God rather than chasing after men of God out of desperation.

“There’s a God who answers prayers instantly, but if you are not friends with Him, you may see Him as distant,” she advised.

She expressed concern over the extraordinary promises made by deceitful preachers, such as healing a decapitated man, and prayed for God’s mercy.

Despite the troubling trend, Ohemaa Mercy encouraged her audience to strengthen their faith and trust in God, warning against becoming enslaved to false leaders.
