The Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyaponghas released an official statement regarding the court decision from March 15 in which he prevailed in a defamation case brought by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The Assin Central MP in a Twitter post said the ruling was a win for “straight talk” over “investigative terrorism” – the latter being a term the trial judge used in hus judgment.
“Today straight talk has won over ‘investigative terrorism’ as evidenced in the judgement of a suit brought against Hon. Kennedy Agyapong (Defendant) by Anas Aremeyaw Anas (Plaintiff), where the plaintiff sought charges against the defendant for defamation.
“In the case that has been followed keenly by Ghanaians both home and abroad, the judge opined in his ruling that Anas Aremeyaw Anas, the plaintiff is a “blackmailer, extortionist and corrupt.” He also went on to say that the ‘plaintiffs style isnt investigative journalism but investigative terrorism”.
Anas vs. Ken Agyapong defamation case
An Accra High Court on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, struck out a defamation suit brought by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas against Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
The plaintiff, filed the case in 2018, seeking among other reliefs monetary damages to the tune of GH¢25 million.
However, the court presided by Justice Eric Baah despite finding various claims made by the defendant against the plaintiff as potentially defamatory, ruled that the comments were factual and fair.
The court subsequently dismissed the suit and awarded the defendant a sum of 50,000 Ghana cedis to cover his legal costs.
The MP has subsequently referred to the ruling as a victory for straight talk over investigative terrorism.
Whiles, the journalist also expressed grave misgivings about the ruling describing it in part as a travesty of justice. His statement, however, stopped short of confirming whether he will appeal the ruling.
PRESS STATEMENT FROM HON. KENNEDY OHENE AGYAPONG (MP)
STRAIGHT TALK WINS OVER INVESTIGATIVE TERRORISM
ACCRA, MARCH 15, 2023
Today straight talk has won over ‘investigative terrorism’ as evidenced in the judgement of a suit brought against Hon. Kennedy Agyapong (Defendant) by Anas Aremeyaw Anas (Plaintiff), where the plaintiff sought charges against the defendant for defamation.
In the case that has been followed keenly by Ghanaians both home and abroad, the judge opined in his ruling that Anas Aremeyaw Anas, the plaintiff is a “blackmailer, extortionist and corrupt.” He also went on to say that the ‘plaintiffs style isnt investigative journalism but investigative terrorism.”
This judgement has vindicated many, like Hon. Kennedy Agyapong who for a very long time through his straight talking and direct style have questioned the motive of Anas and his rather unethical style of ‘entrapment’ — something frowned upon by real journalists.
Hon. Kennedy Agyapong reacting to the verdict stated, “our nation needs to move on from this style of journalism and pull him down syndrome and rather focus on building strong institutions that will help instil accountability, discipline and purpose of duty in the attainment of personal and national goals.
Today’s ruling has shown that we must not be shy in challenging those who seek to destroy others for self-serving purposes while upholding the moral fabric of our nation.

Kennedy Agyapong, the member of parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region, has honoured Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former president of the Ghana Football Association, by dedicating his victory in the defamation lawsuit against investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The Accra High Court ordered the investigative journalist to pay Kennedy Agyapong 50,000 as compensation instead of upholding Anas’ 25 million Ghana cedi defamation lawsuit.
Kennedy Agyapong said in a statement following the court’s decision that his victory was in honour of the former GFA president who was degraded in the documentary.
Kennedy Agyapong declined the 50,000 that had been given to him by the court and admonished Anas to be careful what he did.
“All I will say is the victory is especially for Kwesi Nyantakyi and this gentleman. What they have gone through in Anas’s humiliation in this country, nobody should go through that,” Kennedy Agyapong told the press.
He added, “I will tell you today, the ¢50,000 I don’t need it, I will give it to him but he should live with his conscience.”
Anas in 2018 sued the New Patriotic Party lawmaker for allegedly defaming him after the release of his famous Number 12 documentary which sort to uncover the rot in Ghana Football.
The popular investigative journalist asked the court to award ¢25 million toKennedy Agyapong for defaming him in his ‘Who watches the watchman’ counter documentary.
However, ruling over the case in court on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, Justice Eric Baah stated that Anas Aremeyaw Anas failed to prove he was defamed by the lawmaker.
The Accra High Courthas postponed the lawsuit on defamation presented by award-winning investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, against Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to March 15.
The Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) is facing a GH¢25 million suit from Anas over some comments he (MP) had allegedly made against the investigative journalist in public after airing his investigative piece #Number 12, which exposed some rots in Ghana Football.
Justice Eric Baah, a Justice of the Court of Appeal who is sitting with additional responsibility as a High Court judge, had earlier fixed Thursday, February 16 after the parties had ended their testimonies.
EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, reports that the judgement was deferred because the parties failed to file their written addresses by December 6, 2022, deadline given by the court.
They, instead, filed them at a later date, hence the decision of the court to defer to allow the judge ample time to write his judgment.
Background
Sometime in 2018, the ace international investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas dragged the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, to court for defaming him.
Anas was asking the High Court to award aggravated damages to the tune of GH¢25 million arising from defamatory materials published by the MP.
He said the MP had been publishing materials in his bid to discredit him after releasing an explosive piece on the rot in Ghana football.
Displeased with the MP’s actions, Anas, through his lawyer, Mr Kissi Agyebeng, sued Mr Agyapong for the award of general damages for defamation in the defendant’s publications.
A journalist, Mr Listowell Yesu Bukarson, has been granted the lawful attorney to stand in for Anas.
Publications
The publication complained of are May 29, 2018, live programme in Twi on Adom TV, where Mr Agyapong categorically stated that Anas was a blackmailer, corrupt, an extortionist and evil.
According to the statement of claim, the defendant, in a similar manner, published defamatory words on May 31, 2018, via Oman FM, a private radio station owned by the defendant.
The statement of claim also stated that the defendant published more defamatory materials against the plaintiff via other platforms to the extent of releasing pictures purported to be those of the investigative journalist in his bid to blow the latter’s cover.
The High Court has adjourned to March 13, 2023 the case brought against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger Eye P.I. by former Presidential Staffer and former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, Charles Bissue.
Mr. Bissue is asking the High Court to stop the OSP from investigating and prosecuting him on the basis that he has already been investigated and set free by Ghana Police on allegations of corruption levelled against him by Tiger Eye P.I. in their documentary titled ‘Galamsey Fraud Part One’.
He also applied to injunct OSP, Anas and Tiger Eye from doing anything concerning the investigation and/ or prosecution of him till the determination of the case.
This process was first filed on 23 December 2022. This was subsequently amended in the application on 4 January 2023 without amending the affidavit in support. The OSP is opposed to the application in no uncertain terms.
In Court, today, Monday, 6 February 2023, lawyers for Mr. Bissue prayed to withdraw the application filed on 23 December 2022 and also announced they have amended the affidavit in support of the application filed on 4 January 2023.
This latest process, filed on 27th January 2023, is yet to be served on the OSP and the other Defendants.
The Court adjourned the hearing of the injunction application to the 13 of March 2023 for Defendants to be served and for them to also respond if they deem fit to do so.
Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has disclosed that investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, reported him to the United States (U.S) government over the death of Ahmed Hussein Suale.
Speaking in an interview with host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom Otchere, on January 31, 2023, he said he was stopped for about seven (7) hours at Houston sometime after the incident happened.
“They did their investigation and everything, and later they said go [after investigations proved futile]” he said.
Many pointed accusing fingers at the Assin Fosu MP, following the death of Ahmed Suale, an investigative journalist with the Tiger Eye P.I. The accusations were rife due to the fact that Mr Agyapong had earlier displayed an image of Mr Suale on his television network (NET 2 TV) and incited the public to brutalise him. Shortly after Mr Agyapong’s comments, Ahmed Suale was assassinated by unknown men.
To bring closure to the matter, Mr Agyapong has vowed to launch a full blown investigation into the murder and bring the culprits to book.
“Now , I believe in police. Competent police. All these investigations that they’ve done, nothing pointed to Kennedy Agyapong. Are you saying they [the police] are not competent? Well, what I will do if I’m President is to encourage the police and security agencies to go and investigate the matter and get to the bottom in order to get the actual culprit.
He suspects that Anas Aremeyaw Anas may be part of the culprits because of his reaction. “He [Anas] didn’t show remorse but if I’m elected today, whether the case is dead or not, I’ll bring it back again so that we can find the murderers,” he said.
Anas Aremeyaw Anas has stated a major goal his most recent investigative documentary dubbed ‘Galamsey Economy’ achieved.
The investigative journalist said the film was put together to expose “the pervasive rot that is affecting the economy and investor confidence in Ghana.”
He was reacting to recent allegations against his person as contained in a viral video, which content he described as mudslinging and lies being peddled by detractors.
His views were contained in a November 25 press release which read in part: “A video, made up of rehashed allegations from 2018 have been circulated on social media networks and other messaging platforms.”
The statement went on to respond to specific individuals who appear in the said video addressing specifically what they are on record to have said of Anas and of his outfit, Tiger Eye Private Investigations (PI.)
Among others, Anas responded to claims by Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong, wife of the former Ghana Football Association, GFA, president and journalist Justice Kwaku Annan, a dismissed employee of Agyapong.
“We challenge anyone with evidence of crime against Anas Aremeyaw Anas, to without hesitation, make same available to the relevant State authorities,” the statement stressed.
It concluded by emphasizing that Tiger Eye will continue along the path of using sting operations to expose rot in the society.
“Tiger Eye PI remains unwavering in its commitment to fight graft and crimes using sting operations (Anas principle), and absolutely nothing, be they threats or baggage of spurious allegations, will stop us from holding duty bearers accountable in the interest of God and Country.”
Renowned investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has refuted dismissed allegations of extortion and blackmail against him after releasing his latest exposè the “Galamsey economy”.
A statement signed by the Ghanaian journalist said “some persons have resorted to mudslinging and lies” against its CEO Anas following the release of the undercover documentary that led to the dismissal of a Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen.
Mr Adu Boahen was sacked after the investigative prior to the airing of the investigative piece. He is currently the subject of an investigation by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
“Tiger Eye PI notes, that, these are antics by the perpetrators of corruption and their collaborators, to distract from the facts of our recent exposé…we challenge anyone with evidence of crime against Anas Aremeyaw Anas, to without hesitation, make same available to the relevant state authorities.”
“To reiterate without equivocation, Tiger Eye PI has NEVER, either through its agents or third parties, demanded monies from persons busted by Tiger Eye PI in the cause of our work, including the Number 12 and Galamsey Fraud exposés for the stories to be dropped.
“Per the internal operating procedures and integrity mechanisms within Tiger Eye, it’s IMPOSSIBLE for any of our agents to demand bribes to drop a story. The sheer frivolity and incoherence of these allegations have been exposed times without number by Tiger Eye PI.”

TIGER EYE RESPONDS TO ALLEGATIONS OF EXTORTION AND BLACKMAIL
Following the release of the Galamsey Economy exposè which focused on exposing the pervasive rot that is affecting the economy and investor confidence in Ghana, some persons have resorted to mudslinging and lies against the CEO of Tiger Eye PI, Anas Aremeyaw Anas. A video, made up of rehashed allegations from 2018 have been circulated on social media networks and other messaging platforms. Tiger Eye hereby responds to the contents of the said video, containing details which we have refuted on countless occasions.
Tiger Eye PI dismisses all the allegations including extortion and blackmail against Anas Aremeyaw Anas. These allegations are imagined and fabricated, with no basis in reality. Tiger Eye PI notes, that, these are antics by the perpetrators of corruption and their collaborators, to distract from the facts of our recent exposé. It also merits the question: why do such allegations only surface when there is an exposé?
In the said video, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi’s wife is seen and heard, sometime in 2018 on Metro TV, alleging that some persons had contacted her husband to pay some amount of money ($100,000) in order to drop the #12 exposé. When this allegation was first made, Anas Aremeyaw Anas challenged Mr Nyantakyi and his wife to sue him or whoever did what they’re alleging, or report him/her to the police for extortion if they think their stale allegation is true (https://mobile.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/Sue-me-for-extortion-blackmail-if-I-asked-for-100k-bribe-Anas-dares-Nyantakyi-s-wife-703414). It’s however important to note that, she, as well as the trumpeters of the said allegation, fail to mention anyone’s
name. As we speak, Mr Nyantakyi is standing trial for fraud and corruption. If this allegation were true, it would be absurd that he would not go any length to put whoever made those demands for bribes before the law especially when through Tiger Eye’s anti-corruption operations, he has lost his job.
It’s important to note that, the champion of these spurious allegations, Mr Kennedy Agyepong (also seen in the video), who splashed the photos of the late Ahmed Suale on his NET 2 TV prior to his assassination, is in court with Anas Aremeyaw Anas in a defamation suit. When he challenged the professional integrity of Anas as a lawyer at the General Legal Council, he was handed a defeat. Again, he has already lost the first round of defamation suit against him by Mr Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, where the court found his allegations to be unfounded and empty.
In the video, portions show Mr Charles Bissue’s false claims. Tiger Eye refuted his false claims recently, extensively. (https://www.myjoyonline.com/full-text-anas-vs-charles-bissue-on-galamsey-deals/). We reiterate that those claims of demands for bribes to drop the Galamsey Fraud exposé, are false and without merit.
It’s interesting that whenever these claims are made, those alleging fail to mention specific names nor produce evidence to buttress their claims. They don’t also take bold steps to report such things to law enforcement agencies for them to be dealt with per law. This should alert every watcher, that, these claims are wanton and must be treated as such.
In the video, a man in a cornrow whom another claimed was Anas, was being accused of land grabbing. On humanitarian grounds, we wish to iterate that circulating videos of persons and tagging them as ANAS could put innocent persons at risk as they might get caught up and targeted in a case of mistaken identity. We further wish to state for the record that Anas Aremeyaw Anas, CEO of Tiger Eye has NEVER forcefully or illegally dispossessed anyone of his/her land and hasn’t been involved in an altercation as being purported. No court has found him guilty of illegal land expropriation.
Tiger Eye is fully aware that this particular allegation is being championed by one Kweku Annan who was sacked from NET 2 for professional misconduct. Suffice to say, Kweku Annan was exposed by Tiger Eye demanding bribes to spew lies about Anas Aremeyaw Anas (https://www.adomonline.com/fallout-from-12-radio-broadcaster-admits-taking-money-accuses-anas-of-bad-faith/). Subsequently, Tiger Eye took him to the National Media Commission (NMC) for redress on his allegations (https://www.graphic.com.gh/sports/sports-news/video-anas-petitions-nmc-to-investigate-hot-fm-presenter-for-unethical-media-practice.html), where he couldn’t substantiate a single claim, leading to the issuance of a restraining order against him by the NMC. Once again, we challenge anyone with evidence of wrongdoing in the nature of unlawful expropriation of lands to proceed to the appropriate State agency for further action.
To reiterate without equivocation, Tiger Eye PI has NEVER, either through its agents or third parties, demanded monies from persons busted by Tiger Eye PI in the cause of our work, including the Number 12 and Galamsey Fraud exposés for the stories to be dropped. Per the internal operating procedures and integrity mechanisms within Tiger Eye, it’s IMPOSSIBLE for any of our agents to demand bribes to drop a story. The sheer frivolity and incoherence of these allegations have been exposed times without number by Tiger Eye PI.
Tiger Eye PI, has at all times, after its investigations, taken extra steps to assist relevant State authorities to investigate the findings of our investigations. Anas Aremeyaw Anas has testified in courts, has been cross examined, and has been a subject of multiple suits for his works. None of these suits, since the over two decades of dedicated service to uncover crimes, has been successful.
We challenge anyone with evidence of crime against Anas Aremeyaw Anas, to without hesitation, make same available to the relevant State authorities.

Kennedy Agyapong has been challenged by Justice Kwaku Annan, a former political show host on Net2 TV, to publish the second series of the documentary dubbed “Who Watches the Watchman.”
Following the release of Anas Aremeyaw Anas‘ undercover video on corruption in Ghana and African football, Net2 aired the first segment of the aforementioned documentary, which revealed the dishonest methods of the investigative journalist.
After showing “Who Watches the Watchman” to the audience at the Net2 headquarters, the congressman vowed that he will soon display a second portion. Three years later, that hasn’t occurred.
Kwaku Annan believes it is that lack of organization in Kennedy Agyapong’s approach that allowed Anas to ‘survive’ and continue to purportedly expose people he deems corrupt.
“Ken is not composed and at the same time he doesn’t know how to arrange himself. He speaks loudly but he needs to be better organized and to put things together chronologically.
“People are still disappointed that when you came out with ‘Who watches the watchman’ part one,’ where is the part two? It should have been bigger and more detailed to expose the things we are talking about, where is it?” Annan asked last week in an interview with the Nsem Pii YouTube channel.
Annan was addressing concerns relative to Anas’ documentary dubbed ‘Galamsey Economy,’ in which he made corruption allegations against Charles Adu Boahen, the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry.
The Minister has since been removed by the president and referred to the Office of the Special Prosecutor for investigations.
Former Attorney General, Martin Amidu has described investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas as an “anti-corruptionpreneur.”
Martin Amidu also known as Citizen Vigilante made the comment in a recent piece he wrote in relation to the judicial corruption exposé carried out by Anas and his Tigereye PI team.
Anas captured some 34 judges and over 100 judicial service officials on video allegedly taking bribes to influence judgment.
Mr. Amidu explained that the investigation was supposed to be “a not-for profit anticorruption crusader” which was commissioned in 2009 adding that though the investigation covered the judiciary and legislature, government has suppressed that of Parliament.
“…What I did not know was that the method of exposing corruption in the judiciary and parliament was going to be through commissioning covert anti-corruptionpreneurs as government agents (to secretly collaborate with established security agencies) to allow for possible deniability. But I do not think that the late President Mills intended to suppress the results of the Parliamentary corruption investigation by compromising it and using only the results of the judicial corruption investigations to damnify the judiciary knowing quite well that whatever results to be obtained will only be the tip of the ice berg.”
He said “what nauseates me in the whole judicial corruption scandal as a not-for profit anticorruption crusader is the posture of the Government through the President and the Attorney General in using the results of its commissioned undercover investigations to detract attention from the Gargantuan political corruption that has engulfed not only the Government but the Legislature as well since 2009.”
Amidu accuses gov’t of shielding ‘corrupt’ MPs
Meanwhile, Martin Amidu is accusing government of suppressing parts of what he described as the ‘truth’ that indicts some Members of Parliament in the recent corruption exposé.
Martin Amidu further questioned government’s sincerity on the scandal whilst calling for full disclosure from Anas.
According to Martin Amidu “the Government ought to be congratulated for its ingenuity in being able to suppress parts of the truth and to turn the displeasure of public anger away from political corruption to only judicial corruption and to take all the credit.”
“The ingenuity, however, becomes farcical when the Attorney General grants immunity and protection to entrepreneurial Government Commissioned undercover agents who collaborate with established security agencies as independent whistleblowers under the Whistleblowers Act, 2006 (Act 720) and contrary to the prohibition of the Police Service (Private Security Organizations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571),” he added.

THE GHANAIAN SENSE OF JUSTICE: CORRUPT JUDGES REMOVED, CORRUPT ATTORNEYS REWARDED AND CORRUPT POLITICIANS PROTECTED: BY MARTIN A. B. K. AMIDU
Genesis of the corruption undercover investigations
Judicial corruption or corruption by judicial officers is no news to any honest and respectable member of the legal profession and the judiciary itself. It is a subject of on-going discussions within lawyers and judges; sometimes names are mentioned privately but reports are not made for disciplinary action because witnesses refuse to testify.
The constitutional history of this nation shows collaborative efforts between the legal profession, some judges, and some governments, particularly military regimes, to cleanse the judiciary of people with low moral character and low integrity – the last time was when the PNDC dismissed over 12 judges for perceived corruption.
The years 2010 and 2011 were acrimonious ones in the relationship between the Government and the judiciary with accusations of corruption and partisanship made by Government and party supporters, and the judiciary calling for proof. When the Wereko Brobey and Mpiani acquittal and discharge and cleansing the judiciary (several ways of killing a cat) controversy sapped the energies of Government and Party on one side, and the Judiciary and its sympathizers on the other, I was the Minister for the Interior with a part to play.
In 2011 I was the Attorney General when statements at a National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) symposium alleging that most judges take bribes, judicial corruption is not a perception and other allegations of bribery and corruption against the judiciary were made and met with demands from the judiciary for proof.
All the four speakers at the occasion were banned by the judiciary from appearing in any court as lawyers and a complaint made to the lawyers’disciplinary committee for action. I wondered alongside my Government what the judiciary would have done if the speakers were not also incidentally lawyers.
The last grievance against the judiciary was the acquittal of all the suspects in the Ya Na Murder case in 2011after a submission of no case to answer. But it was the judiciary unfortunately which always dared this Government and its predecessor for proof. Now they have it.
It is big news! This is so because catching judges or judicial officers in flagrante delicto, fili fili, discussing and taking bribes is evidence which the judiciary and its protagonist thought the Government was incapable of producing. There are many ways of killing a cat indeed!
Disclosure of the Judicial Corruption Scandal
I was elated when news broke out that 34 judges and about 180 other judicial officers were caught red handed on video tape discussing with third parties and taking bribes to sell justice. I became, like many Ghanaians, a staunch supporter of the Petitioner or Petitioners and their results.
I had complete empathy with the undercover investigators because of my own previous experiences as a lawyer, a Deputy Attorney General, and as Attorney General. As Attorney General I had suspected three of the judicial officers of having been compromised or about to be compromised in decisions they made or about to make against the Republic. I had gone to the Supreme Court to nullify two such decisions and also to take the sting out of a possible acquittal in one of the two cases should the suspect be acquitted at the end of the on-going trial against the preponderance of the evidence or on grounds of an alleged weakness of the prosecution’s case.
In the third case, I could only refer the Attorney to the disciplinary committee and to the police for further investigations. My animal nature reaffirmed by belief that those particular judges had never been fit to be on the bench, even though my suspicions still remain a conjuncture since I can offer no concrete proof of corruption in spite of the fact that the Supreme Court vindicated my position in the Woyome and Isofoton cases.
Support for the Chief Justice’s disciplinary actions
When contentions begun to surface first that the culprits could not be disciplined unless they were first convicted of a criminal offence and secondly that they could not be liable for disciplinary proceedings because the petitioners entrapped them into the misconduct I disagreed vehemently.
I am on the side of the Chief Justice on this. I contended that the argument that the judicial officers from circuit judges and below could only be removed after a conviction was based on an erroneous appreciation of Sections 16(d), 17(a), 18 and 19 of the Judicial Service Act, 1960 (CA 10) dealing with summary and formal disciplinary proceedings. In summary proceedings a conviction was enough to remove summarily from office. In all other cases a major penalty of removal from office could not be imposed unless after formal proceedings. The Chief Justice is proceeding formally and not summarily: she did not have to wait for a criminal conviction to remove a judge or judicial officer from office. In any case the governing disciplinary provision for junior judicial officers was not CA 10 but Article 151 of the Constitution.
It does not tie the hands of the Chief Justice to any conviction and does not state that proceedings be formal or summary but entitles the judicial officer to be heard in his defence by himself or lawyer or other expert of his choice which supposes a formal hearing. CA 10/60 cannot derogate from Article 151 which requires a 2/3 vote of the Judicial Council for removal. How the Judicial Council proceeds to reach the resolution by not less than 2/3 votes is not stated. The removal procedure for superior court justices is covered by Article 146 and not CA 10.
On the entrapment charge I contended that since the coming into force of the Evidence Act, 1975(NRCD 323) the evidential rule in relation to improperly obtained evidence is that relevant evidence was admissible notwithstanding that it was even obtained illegally subject only to any exclusionary rule of law or discretion. I took the view that the Evidence Act followed the exclusionary rules in Miranda v Arizona, and its derivative on custodial interrogation and confessions, and Mapp v Ohio 367 US 643 and its derivatives on unreasonable searches and seizures. But my position has been that the rule in Burdeau v Mcdowell 256 US 465 (1921) and its derivatives support the proposition that the exclusionary rules do not apply to the conduct and activities of private individuals in improperly obtaining evidence even though they might have obtained the evidence through the commission of crime. The rule in Burdeau v McDowell has, however been subjected to the qualification that the exclusionary rule applies when the private individual is acting as an agent of Government or other sovereign authority. On a third argument that the constitutional right to privacy might have been violated by the petitioners, I took the view that privacy cannot be invaded upon an invitation or permission to a private person by the complainant as he can be said to have voluntarily invited the person into his privacy. Secondly, consent by deception has been held to constitute valid consent for purposes of the invasion of privacy in the prosecution of crime.
In my considered opinion it was urgent for the Chief Justice to complete the disciplinary process first to restore the image of the system before releasing the judges and judicial officers to the police for investigation. The disciplinary standards are lower than prosecutions and the administrative removal will restore the image of the service even if no prosecution eventually succeeds. Some of the issues are now before the courts for a decision within the context of the respective facts of those cases and we have to abide those decisions.
I still think that the law in criminal trials is that relevant evidence, however, obtained is admissible to prove an event except when there is a rule of law or practice excluding it. The exclusionary rules seldom apply to disciplinary proceedings and in most civil cases. How the evidence was obtained is of no moment as long as it is available, it can be used. In spite of the fact that these undercover investigations were the results of challenges by the Judiciary to the Government to prove that there is corruption in the judiciary Her Ladyship the Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Wood, has since she received the petitions and complaints conducted herself with exemplary dignity, respect, and due process in her efforts to restore the integrity and dignity of the judiciary and public confidence in it. The fact that challenges to the disciplinary proceedings are being adjudicated by the courts resulting in postponement of some impeachment hearings and disciplinary proceedings in accordance with due process vindicates a commitment to the rule of law in these trying times. I am of course under no illusions that the problem of corruption in the judiciary will be uprooted through this documentary proof that the judiciary is corrupt. Some lawyers and other writers and commentators have already said that this is simply the tip of the ice berg. I agree with those observations in toto.
Other undisclosed culprits of the undercover Judicial Corruption investigations
Even as I write there is evidence that some judges who were also offered and accepted bribes by the commissioned undercover investigators are still working as judicial officers because the investigators have not yet submitted any petition to the President due to hitches with the video recordings but have notified the Chief Justice and the Judicial Council of these facts. It is my expectation that the petitioners will act accountably and transparently by making these facts public and pursue complaints against the affected persons to avoid the appearance of picking and choosing who to expose. I also think the undercover investigators have to be held accountable by being compelled to submit for public scrutiny all the unedited video recordings including those for the so called judges who allegedly refused to accept bribes and threatened to report the investigators to the police.
Making ex parte contacts with and discussing pending cases with the undercover investigators without reporting it to the Judicial Secretary, the Chief Justice, the Police or informing the real parties to the trial until the investigators made it public years after the event is suspected misconduct under Rules 2, 3(7), and 4(A) of the Code of Conduct of Judges and Magistrate of Ghana (CCJMG).
Now that they have disclosed to the public the names and pictures of the judges and judicial officers who allegedly refused to be bribed it is no longer within their province to be judge, jury, and prosecutor in determining that the failure of the judicial officers to report the ex parte discussions constitutes praise worthy conduct or misconduct for purposes of impeachment.
How sure are we that through the investigator’s selective method of reporting their edited findings some of the officers implicated are not being dishonestly protected from exposure by the anti-corruptionpreneurs? Come to think of it, Ghanaians and the culprits are as a matter of right entitled to view the whole unedited video tapes and not edited copies that gives the Government and its covert agents the power to control our perceptions and judgment in the government’s unconstitutional Orwellian Big Brother enterprise.
Nauseating Government diversion of public attention from GARGANTUAN political corruption
What nauseates me in the whole judicial corruption scandal as a not-for profit anticorruption crusader is the posture of the Government through the President and the Attorney General in using the results of its commissioned undercover investigations to detract attention from the Gargantuan political corruption that has engulfed not only the Government but the Legislature as well since 2009.
First, the Attorney General, an ex-officio member of the Judicial Council, hypocritically and opportunistically calls upon the Chief Justice to restore the integrity of the Judiciary and declares that the culprits will be investigated and prosecuted by her office.
The President plays holier than thou and chips in later to tell the whole world that his Government will ensure that those found culpable are dealt with. In the euphoria of emotions and public reaction to the judicial scandal expose the President and the Attorney General might have forgotten the saying that one must remove the moth in one’s eyes before removing the spec in another’s. The President and his Attorney General may be controlling the prosecutorial process of this nation for the time being but that does not make the saying that “justice is might” or “might is justice” right in purposefully using judicial corruption to hide political corruption in any form. This so called social democratic government has failed to retrieve the over GH₵51million and €47million corruptly paid to an NDC financier and other surrogate ordered by the Supreme Court to be refunded to the Republic but has shamelessly and unlawfully commissioned agents to divert attention from Gargantuan political corruption.
Firstly, is it right and just for the President and the Attorney General to reward and transfer a Chief State Attorney suspected of corruption involving the payment of a whooping amount of GHC400,000.00 by cheque into his wife’s account at the Agricultural Development Bank at the time he was the responsible officer in the Alfred Agbesi Woyome scandal in which an unconstitutional payment of over GHC51million was made by the Government to Woyome? The culprit has been rewarded with a transfer to head the Upper West office while a judge who takes less than GHC1000.00 is removed, debarred and prosecuted.
Paradoxically, Mr. Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh, the Chief State Attorney, was on the list for consideration to the High Court bench at the time. Secondly, the Government has and is presiding over further rot in the critical office of the Attorney General which is the lead executive authority for the prosecution of all crimes including corruption. I refer to my press statement to the media on 15th September 2014entitled: “President John Mahama’s Government Cannot Lead The Fight Against Narcotic Drugs in the ECOWAS” in which I called attention to Nerquaye-Tetteh and his wife’s GHC400,000.00 golden handshake, and the rewards by transfer to head a region; the involvement of Chief State Attorney William Kpobi and his staff in the Attorney General’s office in Kumasi colluding to free a convicted drug trafficker imprisoned by a Regional Tribunal in Accra at a coordinate High Court in Kumasi in the case of Joe Owuuahene Achaempong v The Republic eventually disposed of by the Supreme Court on 4th June 2011; and the case of the Republic v Mohmmoud Mohammed & 5 Others (Suit No. ST52/2009) in which a Principal State Attorney, George Kwadwo Ofori, without approval from the Attorney General entered a nolle prosequi for the fourth and fifth accused who were accordingly discharged for drug offences by Mr. Justice Charles Quist now on the list of possibly corrupt High Court Judges.
There are also three Ghana Fire Service dockets one of which involved a now deceased Chief State Attorney demanding a bribe of 1% of various contract sums before awarding government contract to the contractors. My deputy at the time (currently the Honourable 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament) took possession of the three dockets from the Director of Public Prosecution to prevent me from dealing with them upon instructions from the President because the Chief Fire Officer was an alleged relation of late President Mills from Cape Coast. The Chief State Attorney and the other fire officers were allowed to retire (most of them last year) without the dockets having been disposed off or closed under President Mahama’s tenure as President. The truth from the foregoing is that no Government can effectively fight bribery and corruption and restore integrity in the administration of justice when the Attorney General’s office with its massive powers under Article 88 is controlled by a President who appoints spineless persons who cannot be independent and impartial as quasi-judicial officers and is also riddled with corrupt officials or perceptions of it.
Commission by the Government of an anti-corruptionpreneur and abuse of the results
I have said that the undercover investigation that led to the judicial corruption expose was commissioned by the Government of Ghana and has its genesis in the acrimonious relationship between the Government and the Judiciary on the assumption of power in 2009 by the Government and the constant demand by the Judiciary for proof of judicial corruption from Government and its associates. I was Presidential Advisor on Legal Affairs in the second half of 2009, I was Minister for the Interior in 2010, and the Attorney General in 2011 before I left office in 2012. I therefore know what I am talking about. What I did not know was that the method of exposing corruption in the judiciary and parliament was going to be through commissioning covert anti-corruptionpreneurs as government agents (to secretly collaborate with established security agencies) to allow for possible deniability. But I do not think that the late President Mills intended to suppress the results of the Parliamentary corruption investigation by compromising it and using only the results of the judicial corruption investigations to damnify the judiciary knowing quite well that whatever results to be obtained will only be the tip of the ice berg. Unfortunately, Prof. Mills died before his commission could be fulfilled and his successor, John Dramani Mahama, has chosen to use the results selectively and to suppress other results, particularly the parliamentary one whose video is ready, available to the Government and has with its permission been viewed secretly by the leadership of one branch of Government which is pleased to participate in the criminal conspiracy and unconstitutional conduct of suppressing it from the public to protect its image. I refuse to condone such conduct and write in exercise of my right to freedom of speech and to defend the Constitution under Article 3 thereof.
The Government ought to be congratulated for its ingenuity in being able to suppress part of the truth and to turn the displeasure of public anger away from political corruption to only judicial corruption and to take all the credit. The ingenuity, however, becomes farcical when the Attorney General grants immunity and protection to entrepreneurial Government Commissioned undercover agents who collaborate with established security agencies as independent whistleblowers under the Whistleblowers Act, 2006 (Act 720) and contrary to the prohibition of the Police Service (Private Security Organizations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571). Truth willalways stand no matter how long it takes for it to come to light. Already tongues are wagging like mine because a secret ceases to be a secret when it is between more than two persons let alone when you announced it to a multitude at a closed door meeting. It is therefore in the interest of the integrity of the petitioners to ensure that the wishes of the late Prof. Mills are carried out to the full before providence reveals them as a for-profit anti-corruptionprenuers (collaborating with established security agencies) without any integrity themselves. “Caesar’s wife must be above suspicion”. An anticorruption activist or journalist must be a man of the highest integrity himself! He cannot be a government agent under any excuse!
I have been silent all this while because of what I know and have learnt from intelligence both closed and open sources but I cannot continue to be mute in spite of the propaganda intended to deceive Ghanaians and render nugatory our fight against all forms of corruption particularly political corruption which as the Woyome and Isofoton cases show runs into millions of dollars and cedis. Let the judiciary be exposed but it is unjust to hide the other evidence of corruption obtained by the same anti-corruptionpreneurs. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.
Now, I have had my say and I am as usual ready for the intimidations, covert burglaries, and threatened assassinations or assassination. Truth stands!
Despite a petition filed against him by undercover investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Justice Emile Francis Short, a former Commissioner at the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative (CHRAJ), has clarified that the Finance Minister won’t be requested to resign by the commission.
According to him, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the only person who can make such decisions.
On November 22, Short explained to Accra-based TV3 how the investigation into conflicts of interest works.
“I don’t know exactly what the issue is, but basically, when CHRAJ receives a complaint it will send it to the person against whom the complaint is made and that person has to respond within a specified period, normally ten days. The response will be sent back to the complainant, in this case, Anas, for his response.
“CHRAJ will not ask the Finance Minister to stay out of office, that is the matter for the President to determine.”
Joseph Whittal, CHRAJ Commissioner said the Commission received an official complaint from the undercover journalist and is assessing the materials presented to it.
“The allegations are that there is a conflict of interest in terms of their official duties as public officers and the companies in which they have interest in terms of government bonds and so the case is going through the standard process of assessment in order to make sure that it meets the procedural requirement under the Commission’s regulation as well as whether it is really within the mandate of the Commission. Based on that, we will then decide what next steps to take,” Whittal told Accra-based Joy News.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor has also commenced investigations into the same corruption allegations levelled against Charles Adu Boahen in the exposé after President Akufo-Addo’s referral of the matter to the Office.
Charles Adu Boahen was dismissed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after allegations that he received some monies to facilitate a meeting between undercover investigators disguised as investors and Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Per a Tiger Eye PI documentary dubbed ‘Galamsey Economy’, Adu Boahen said Bawumia could be paid $200,000 as an appearance fee for investors. This is in addition to positions offered to the Vice President’s siblings – a claim the dismissed Minister of State has denied.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta when he appeared before the ad-hoc committee hearing a vote of censure against him denied being embroiled in a conflict of interest as stated in the allegations by the Minority that his company, Databank Limited have been benefitting from transactions on government bond issuance.
Ofori-Atta said the proponents’ allegations do not have “weight for censure”.
Black Star Brokerage, owned by Charles Adu Boahen, has also been named as one of the firms playing the role of financial advisors to government transactions on the international bond market.
National Chairman of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Nana Ofori Owusu, has questioned why Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is so adamant about leaving office, even though he claims to be working for free.
Nana Owusu said that he was one of the first people to commend the finance minister for working for the country for free but he does not understand why he is refusing to vacate his position despite calls by many Ghanaians for him to step down.
“When I heard the finance minister does not take a salary, I applauded him because of his willingness to sacrifice his time and leave all his businesses to work for Ghana for free.
“Now, I don’t understand why the minister for finance, who says is not paid GH¢1 … who gets nothing from the public sector, is fighting so hard to keep a position his own people, including majority of MPs of his party, are urging him to relinquish.
“You are serving us for free and we are saying that we are grateful for the service but you should step aside and you are saying no I will continue serving,” he said in Twi in a Peace FM
The PPP national chairman added that the refusal of the finance minister to resign feeds into the conflict-of-interest allegation against him.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Joseph Whittal, has said that CHRAJ has received a petition from Tiger Eye PI, the outfit of Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, to investigate Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to Whittal, Ana’s outfit wants CHRAJ to investigate Ofori-Atta for the conflict of interest allegation levelled against him for the involvement of his bank, Data Bank, in loans the government of Ghana contracts.
He added that the commission is currently examining the petition as to whether it has merits.

Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anashas petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
CHRAJ Commissioner, Joseph Whittal confirmed to the media that the Commission has received an official complaint from the Tiger Eye PI team on a conflict of interest situation involving Ken Ofori-Atta and Former Minister of State, Charles Adu Boahen.
Tiger Eye PI in its petition alleged that the duo have engaged in conflict of interest in the use of their companies in relation to the purchase of government bonds while executing their duties as state officials.
“The allegations are that there is conflict of interest in terms of their official duties as public officers and the companies in which they have interest in terms of government bonds and so the case is going through the standard process of assessment in order to make sure that it meets procedural requirement under the Commission’s regulation as well as whether it is really within the mandate of the Commission. Based on that, we will then decide what next steps to take,” Whittal said.
It will be recalled that Charles Adu Boahen was dismissed for alleged influence peddling in the latest expose, ‘Galamsey Economy’ by Anas.
Mr. Adu Boahen has however, denied being involved in any corrupt activity and said the documentary sought to entrap him.
Already, the Minority in Parliament has also accused the Finance Minister of conflict of interest as part of the justification for the censure motion against him.
During the Committee hearing, lawyers for Ken Ofori-Atta argued that any allegation of conflict of interest can only be investigated and within the purview of CHRAJ and therefore prayed for the Committee to strike out that allegation.
If CHRAJ finds it worth investigating, the accused persons would be required to appear before the antigraft institution to answer some questions in relation to the petition filed.
Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta is currently facing a censure motion by the Minority to remove him from office while 98 of the NPP MPs have declared a vote of no confidence in his ability to deliver on the mandate of Finance Minister.
As part of the demand for ken Ofori-Atta to be sacked, the Minority said the Minister’s incompetence has resulted in the current poor state of the economy.
Since the release of the undercover investigation documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, many have questioned why the undercover investigative journalist will entice his culprits with money and persuade them to accept the money as a gift.
This modus operandi by Anas Aremeyaw Anas has been described by many as entrapment but the celebrated undercover journalist has been explaining why he exposed Charles Adu Boahen in his latest undercover investigative documentary dubbed ‘Galamsey Economy’.
According to him, his Tiger Eye P.I. decided to investigate people like Charles Adu Boahen, the dismissed Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, who have the power of the state to make deals that are attractive for investors.
He said in an article published on Monday, November 14, 2022, that corruption has been a major factor that is killing investor confidence in the country, therefore, it is appropriate to go undercover and expose all those making Ghana unpopular to investors and also expose those who have decided to cut deals at the expense of the state.
“Tiger Eye investigates the highs and the mighties. This time, our cameras infiltrated the impermeable underworld of the handlers whose seals make the deals that make Ghana attractive for investors or not.
“Many reports have cited corruption as the number one killer of investor confidence in Ghana. The banking sector crisis further exacerbated the already fragile situation of investor confidence.
“Who are those making Ghana unattractive for investment? What’s their modus operandi? Where do they operate from? Tiger Eye penetrates and exposes the handlers who cut deals at the expense of the state,” Anas Aremeyaw Anas explained in a post on his Facebook timeline.
Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, was by the president fired for reportedly negotiating an ‘appearance fee’ with ‘investors’ on behalf of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In Anas’ documentary, the former minister among other things alleged that Dr. Bawumia will require about USD200,000 as an appearance fee from an investor to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
“You mean, like appearance fees and stuff?” the investigators asked, to which Adu Boahen responded: “I mean he, himself (the Vice President), if you give him some (USD) 200,000 or something as a token, as thank you, appreciation, that’s fine. He’s not really, he’s not really (like) that. All he needs is to worry about his campaign money in 2020,” he said.
But Dr. Bawumia in a statement on Monday, November 14, denied the accusations and called for an investigation into the allegations.
Meanwhile, a statement from the Presidency announcing the dismissal of Adu Boahen as a Minister of State said, “After being made aware of the allegations levelled against the Minister in the exposé, ‘Galamsey Economy’, the President spoke to Mr Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment, and also to refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations.”
The statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications added that the President thanked Mr Adu Boahen for his strong services to his government since his appointment in 2017 and wished him well in his future endeavours.
What Kweku Baako said about Anas’ undercover investigation.
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, defended the modus operandi his protégé, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, employs in his undercover investigations.
To him, Anas will continue to use the undercover methodology to unearth any and all negatives within society whether it pleases his critics or not.
Addressing the Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger Eye P.I. modus operandi in a Facebook comment, Kweku Baako agreed, however, that it is ok for those who do not agree with Anas and his methodologies to ask questions.
“People are entitled to ask questions of Tiger Eye and its “methodologies”. That’s fair game. No problem. Tiger Eye will continue to unearth any and all “negatives” applying its “methodologies” whether its critics like it or not!” he wrote.

Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has questioned the principles and mode of operations of Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Anas in his documentaries expose state officials including judges and politicians. The latest to have been exposed is former Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen who was filmed engaging in influence peddling.
Reacting to the exposé, the Legislator said Charles Adu Boahen was compelled to take the hefty amount of dollars given to him as a ‘token’ although it was not right to have accepted the offer.
He argued that the edited footage which was shown to the public seemed to distort the whole story, thus the investigative journalist should air the full documentary for purposes of fairness to the implicated state official.
“I have nothing against Anas. I think he is also doing his best to contribute to fighting corruption, but he should do it in a way that would not seem like he has planned, he has built up conspiracy game theory to get people into trouble and for Ghanaians to have opinions.
“Many extracts that I have gotten from all of you indicated that Charles was very reluctant that does not also mean he was right in accepting the offers and so it was something like he was intimidated, it was put through his throat,” he said on Newsfile, Saturday.
Dr. Stephen Amoah, therefore, believes that the award-winning investigative journalistmust reconsider his mode of operations such that he avoids putting his subjects in awkward situations.
“I think Anas should redefine a new paradigm shift, the way he does his things so that you not really force or put people in a situation where they might not have gotten themselves into…let us look at the fact that one, he was intimidated, two, most of the offers were initiated by those who actually wanted to implicate him in the situation.”
Speaking on the same show, the Executive Director of Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah expressed displeasure with the principles explored by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Although he admits that the conduct by Charles Adu-Boahen is condemnable, Mr. Braimah contended that the “forcefulness” and “persistence” from Anas to offer gifts raises questions.
“Per what we watch in number 12 and the forcefulness, the persistence, the request, the inducement then makes it difficult for us to conclude that ordinarily if the conversation had gone on, would Mr. Adu Boahen eventually say now that we have concluded, how much will you give me and all of that we cannot conclude,” he noted.
Currently, the Special Prosecutor is investigating the corruption allegations against Charles Adu Boahen.
Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has commended President Akufo-Addo’s response to the latest exposé by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
According to the MP, even though the President is not perfect, his reaction to the investigative piece by the Tiger Eye Pi team is worthy of commendation.
Speaking on NewsFile on Saturday, the NPP lawmaker said contrary to certain criticisms about the President’s response to the exposé, Akufo-Addo did well in the circumstances.
Lauding the President, he indicated that the battle against corruption has been on for years, and therefore the President’s decision to sack an appointee named in a corruption scandal is deserving of acknowledgment.
“I think the President has rather demonstrated a leader’s position and style that has to be commended.
I’m not saying he’s perfect. [But] let’s be honest; he took a very swift decision and made a very swift decision to let everybody understand that he really believes in an open culture system when it comes to fighting corruption which has been a canker”, Dr Stephen Amoah said.
The comments by the member of Parliament, follow the President’s sacking of the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen.
Earlier this week, the Harvard scholar was shown the exit door, after he was mentioned in the latest Ana’s exposé, as a facilitator of shady deals, using the name of the Vice President.
Few hours after a trailer of the exposé was published, the President, through his Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin, announced Mr. Adu Boahen’s dismissal.
In the letter announcing his dismissal, the President thanked him for his ‘strong services’, and ordered the Special Prosecutor to intestigate the said allegations.
But while many, including the Nhyiaeso MP, Dr Stephen Amoah have commended the President, others have expressed their lack of confidence in the outcome of the investigations.
According to the critics, Adu Boahen’s dismissal is much ado about nothing.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor says it will probe the allegations and get to the bottom of the matter.
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, has defended the modus operandi his protégé, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, employs in his undercover investigations.
According to him, Anas will continue to use the undercover methodology to unearth any and all negatives within society whether it pleases his critics or not.

Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ latest ‘Galamsey Economy‘ exposed Charles Adu Boahen, the dismissed Minister of State at the Finance Ministry over an alleged corruption.
Anas in a post on his Facebook timeline hours before the showing of the ‘Galamsey Economy’ film noted that the minister made some shocking revelations to his team in a hotel in UAE, when they posed as possible investors to Ghana.
Adu Boahen among other things alleged that Bawumia will require about USD200,000 as an appearance fee from an investor to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
President Akufo-Addo, however, referred his former appointee to the OSP in the November 14 letter that announced his dismissal.
The dismissal was on the back of allegations of corruption-related issues in Anas’ documentary.
The OSP, subsequently, issued a statement on November 15 confirming that it had started work on the referral from the presidency.
Kweku Baako added, “for now, Tiger Eye has indicated its readiness to assist the investigation announced by the Special Prosecutor; upon the presidential referral of the conduct of Mr. Adu Boahen to the OSP! DUE PROCESS is underway. That’s where Tiger Eye’s FOCUS is!
“Those who want to continue asking questions and criticising “methodologies” and perceived/alleged omissions of Tiger Eye, are entitled to continue! FREE SPEECH!!”
He also denied any meeting between the Tiger Eye P.I. team and Ken Ofori-Atta, Finance Minister, in Dubai as it has been reported widely within some sections of the media.
“The last time I checked, Tiger Eye has no video depicting any interaction with Ken Ofori-Atta! None! Assuming without admitting that there were attempts to “entrap” Ken Ofori-Atta, and the attempts proved unsuccessful? What would that mean? That Adu Boahen failed the “test of integrity” while Ofori-Atta succeeded? Or?
“By the way, documentaries are not exhibits in criminal investigations and/or prosecutions. The RAW FOOTAGES are. And the latter have always been submitted to the relevant statutory authorities for the purposes of criminal investigations and prosecutions that were triggered by undercover ops by/of Tiger Eye!” Abdul Malik Kweku Baako stated.
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, mentor and Godfather of investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has responded to news of patrons being disappointed after viewing the latest undercover investigative piece of Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Mr Baako is of the view that they’re entitled to their judgement of the work.
He added that despite their disappointment, the President has taken action in the aftermath of the investigation by firing the implicated Minister of State in Charge of Finance Charles Adu Boahen and referring him to the special prosecutor for investigations.
“Patrons are entitled to their judgment! The outcome is that the President who’s an experienced lawyer has terminated an appointment and made a referral to the OSP. And Tiger Eye is prepared to help the investigations with further and better particulars! For God and Country, we move forward!,” Mr Baako wrote.
Many who thought the investigative piece was going to be explosive have been left disappointed after viewing the documentary dubbed Galamsey Economy -Ahmed Last Investigation. Some contend that the nature of the exposé did not meet their expectations given that it was just a repeat of someone engaged in influence peddling and receiving a gift.
But Mr Baako has defended the piece, insisting that the outcome is good enough .
If the President does not promptly fire him, they have threatened to boycott the upcoming 2023 budget presentation as well as all Finance Ministry activities.
You might remember that on Tuesday, October 25, more than 80 MPs held a press conference to call for the dismissal of Charles Adu Boahen and Ken Ofori-Atta from their respective positions.
Charles Adu Boahen has since been sacked by President Akufo-Addo after a latest investigative piece by ace Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas implicated him.
Majority call
Subsequently, the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu indicated that the call for the Finance Minister to be axed is from the entire Majority caucus.
“Even though the issue started with a group of 80-plus, the caucus meeting aligned with the decision of that group. So it is no longer the cause of the 80-plus group. It is the agenda for the entire caucus,” Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu told Journalists in Parliament.
However, the NPP MPs seem to have changed their minds about allowing the Finance Minister to present the budget statement. They want Ken Ofori-Atta gone immediately.
No Turning Back
The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, who doubles as Spokesperson for the group speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ said, “we are not only going to boycott the budget presentation, we are also not going to be part of any business done through him and that is our position now”.
“Yes, we are not part of the vote of censure . . . we want him gone, but by using a better approach and that is what we’re doing . . . indeed we agreed to the President’s request to wait but analyzing various public statements, especially from Ofori-Atta, it shows disrespect. It gives the impression that the President has no plan to dismiss him even after the budget presentation and so we’ve changed our mind; his dismissal should be now,” he insisted.
The Asante Akyem North MP has further assured that they won’t change their stand even if the President calls for another meeting.
“I can assure you that our current position won’t be changed,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister is now facing a vote of censure from the Minority side of Parliament.
Broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere has questioned the timing of the release of the ‘Galamsey Economy’ exposé by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which was recorded in 2018.
In an editorial on his Good Evening Ghana show, Paul Adom-Otchere said that the explanations given by renowned journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr on why the documentary was delayed point to an ongoing fight.
He hinted that the documentary was not released to fight corruption but to score points against someone he described as a presidential candidate who got hold of the documentary in 2018.
“It (issues surrounding the documentary) comes out as a major vendetta between two people. It may not even have been about Charles. Now, we are hearing that the fundamental opponent to Tiger Eye, whom we know (a presidential candidate) … in the process of investigating Tiger Eye, probably found the material (the documentary). It is believed that he found this material and shared it with other people… so this material has been in the system since 2019.
“…so, it looks like the person that Kweku Baako said stole it; he took it and shared it with other people. And as Kweku Baako alleges, somebody (either the person who stole the documentary or another person) was boasting about having the documentary.
“So, when the Tiger Eye people, whom Kwaku Baako described as owners and authors, found out that they had a copy of the material, they decided to fire it (publish it). So that is the vendetta. At that stage, I’m not sure it is about fighting corruption to support Ghana. It is a personal vendetta,” he said.
The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr, explained why his protégé, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, used a video shot in 2018 to expose and cause the dismissal of Minister of State, Charles Adu Boahen.
The journalist premiered an investigative documentary dubbed ‘Galamsey Economy,’ in which the minister was engaged in acts considered to be of a corrupt nature, whereas he (the minister) also impugned corruption on others, especially Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
One of the main defenses the sacked minister has advanced is that he was recorded four years ago in the United Arab Emirates but that the journalist is now using the said footage in his so-called investigation.
Kweku Baako’s explanation was contained in a purported response to a Facebook user by the name of “Kwadwo Yeboah-Gyan.”
Baako wrote: “Somebody “stole and sold” it to somebody; thinking the evidence had been deleted forever! The “buyer” went out boasting about his possession for years, for whatever reason nobody could tell! Apparently, the real “owners/authors” subsequently discovered an extra copy! Today’s story begins from there. PAY ATTENTION!”
“Same guy who fabricated a video of Candidate Akufo-Addo receiving a donation from a lady supporter of the NPP in his Nima residence in 2016 when Akufo-Addo was not President but tried to make it look as if he was the President!” he added.
Ace broadcaster Elizabeth Ohene has submitted that investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has some serious questions to answer.
She said this has become necessary due to some grey areas and questions arising out of the ‘Galamsey Economy‘ video he aired at the Accra International Conference Center earlier this week.
According to the former Information Minister, the name ‘Galamsey’ suggested illegal mining activities was the subject of the video but that was not the case.
She also questioned why the main corruption video was recorded in February 2018 but released in November 2022, more than 4 years later.
“I was looking for the definitive exposé that will stop the speculation and leave the authorities with no choice but to move decisively on the problem. It turns out I was wrong and the person that was in the crosshairs of the Anas treatment this time was Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance.
“It is not clear if our intrepid underground investigator was playing on the nickname, GALANSEY, that Mr Adu Boahen has been known and called by his mates since his childhood days,” she said.
“I believe Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his team owe us some explanations.
“If, as it turns out, this incident with Charles Adu Boahen was filmed back in 2018, why have they kept it under wraps all this while and why have they chosen this time, November 2022, almost five years later, to release it?
“If, in their judgement, they saw what transpired in that hotel room in the United Arab Emirates as so reprehensible, why have they kept it for almost five years?
“They have looked on while Charles Adu Boahen served a full term as Deputy Minister of Finance in the first Akufo-Addo government.
“They looked on while Charles Adu Boahen was nominated by the re-elected President Akufo-Addo as a Minister of State and vetted by Parliament and sworn into office.
“They have looked on as Charles Adu Boahen has performed his duties as Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance.
“In the intervening four plus years, one must wonder what they were doing with their film and what relationship, if any, they had with the Minister of State,” she added.
Read Elizabeth Ohene reaction to Galamsey Economy
I have not seen the latest Anas video, dubbed Galamsey Economy. I am following the stories surrounding the video and I acknowledge that many of us had been sent off track when the first announcement of the approach of the video was made.
I did, like many other people, think that this was going to be a documentary on illegal mining and the devastation being wrought on our lands and water bodies.
Yes, I was holding my breath to find out the big names that were behind the galamsey phenomenon, the names that people hint at, but do not ever disclose.
A number of queasy things emerge from the accounts of this video, not sure if it qualifies as a documentary, but that is another story.
I believe Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his team owe us some explanations.
If, as it turns out, this incident with Charles Adu Boahen was filmed back in 2018, why have they kept it under wraps all this while and why have they chosen this time, November 2022, almost five years later, to release it?

Hello, Mr Adu Boahen, good morning, just calling to check up on you and to make sure you remember your encounter with the Sheikhs in the hotel room.
Hello, Mr Adu Boahen, good evening, we saw a picture of you today with a high-powered delegation from some foreign country talking high finance and we just remembered your encounter with the Sheikhs in the hotel room in the Emirates.
Hello Mr Adu Boahen, good afternoon, we do hope you are having a good day, you are on the radio speaking about the government’s plans for the next five years and we thought you might want to remember your encounter with the Sheikhs in the hotel room.
Hello Mr Adu Boahen, long time, we are doing a clear-out of the closets in our offices and we came across some old canned films and we were wondering if you still remembered your encounter with the Sheikhs in the hotel room so long ago.
Nobody is ever likely to emerge smelling roses when associated with dollars in black plastic bags and once there is a scene captured on camera of the then deputy minister stuffing monies into a plastic bag, it was fair to conclude his fate was sealed.
In spite of the fact that he said in the course of his unnecessary premature counting of dividends that he believes in working for his money, that stuffed plastic bag paints a picture of greed.
It is not disclosed in the video how much there was of the dollars given to him as shopping money and he must have cursed himself a thousand times since that day he didn’t turn down the offer.
Surely, he didn’t need that money and he could have done without whatever shopping he did that day, but I suppose we can all think of some things we would have done differently and we are just lucky our moments were not captured by hidden cameras.
Some have made the point that it would have been culturally unacceptable to turn down “shopping money” offered by millionaire Sheikhs in the Emirates. Maybe we should all not be so concerned about upsetting the cultural sensibilities of unknown rich people.
As far as the parts in the video in which the Vice-President was the subject are concerned, I am going to stick to the then Deputy Finance Minister saying: the Vice-President is not really like that. I am also mindful of the fact that we were taught to resist what lawyers call leading questions when conducting interviews.
Tiger Eye says this was a documentary aimed at exposing those making Ghana unattractive for investors and cut deals at the expense of the state.
If indeed, they had managed to “penetrate the modus operandi” of these people and had then kept silent for almost five years, they must be almost guilty of collusion. We need some answers.
A statesman and politician, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has expressed discontentment about the procedure that investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas uses in airing his documentaries.
His comment comes after Anas Aremeyaw Anas aired his documentary ‘Galamsey Economy,’ which featured the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen.
Mr. Adu Boahen is said to have told the undercover investigators that Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia needed $200,000 as an ‘appearance fee’ before meeting with supposed investors.
The Minister was also reported to have said that the Vice President would demand some contracts from an investor for his siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
According to the stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he does not believe Anas Aremeyaw Anas is actually practicing investigative journalism.
“I have made it clear that I personally don’t believe Anas. I don’t believe he is an investigative journalist. An investigative journalist does his works in such a way that all the points that he got are so important to him that no one never hears about it”, he said.
Speaking to JoyNews in an exclusive interview with host Benjamin Akakpo, Mr Nyaho-Tamakloe asserted that the first most important thing that Anas should do is to release his documentary to the public.
However, Mr Nyaho-Tamakloe said Anas Aremeyaw Anas, after working on this documentary, then gives it out to the government first before airing it to the public.
“The first thing he should do is to release it to the public, in the public hall or something.
“But here we have a situation where this particular investigative journalist, when he comes out with something, makes sure it’s seen by the leaders of the country before it gets to the public.
The statesman indicated that the last investigative documentary of Anas featured the President and his vice but nothing has been done about it.
“His last investigative work, the names of the President and the Vice President came in. What has happened? We should stop the sort of thinking that the people of this country are fools”, he added.
It has now been established that the ‘Galamsey Economy’ documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas had footage from 2018 forming the juiciest part, an alleged bust of a Minister of State soliciting bribes for others and and receiving same for himself.
In opening up on the extent of his involvement in the episode that has since gotten him fired by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, embattled Charles Adu Boahen, said his encounter with investigators clothed a business men was on 8 February 2018.
Whereas he accepted a gift of undisclosed amount of dollars, a pro-government radio station, Asaase Radio, is reporting that the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta turned out to be the major target of the Tiger Eye PI agents.
Read relevant portions of the Asaase Radio report of November 14 below:
They were to have their chance, they thought, when after several attempts Mr. Ofori-Atta agreed to meet them at the airport in Dubai on transit to Tokyo, Japan.
In the company of his then Personal Assistant (PA), Michael Bediako, Mr. Ofori-Atta met the supposed investors (investigators) at the Dubai terminal hotel (Dubai International Airport) on 5 April 2018 at around 6:30am.
The meeting, per our checks, lasted some five minutes. Ken Ofori-Atta left very irritated when he was offered a “gift”, which he refused to accept, and walked out with his PA who was also offered a gift that was rejected as well.
Background
Charles Adu Boahen, then a deputy Minister of Finance was implicated in the ‘Galamsey Economy’ investigative documentary released by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas on November 14.
The now dismissed minister was captured on tape making comments to the effect that access by investors to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia could be facilitated at a cost of US$200,000.
Bawumia has dispelled the allegations and insisted that his integrity remains his most cherished asset in life.
“My most cherished asset in life is my integrity and I will not allow anyone to use my name to engage in corrupt activities,” Bawumia said in a post calling for the minister’s dismissal.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has since terminated Adu Boahen’s appointment and referred the contents of the investigation to the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
Member of Parliament for the South Dayi Constituency in the Volta Region, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has explained that there is no law that makes entrapment illegalin Ghana.
Speaking on the Ade Akye Abia show on Okay FM he said that unlike in America, where there is a lawful way of obtaining evidence but in Ghana, there is no lawful way of obtaining evidence.
“One the evidence is relevant or is of importance, the court will admit it. The court does not consider how you got the evidence that the principal we work with in this country. It is immaterial how you got the evidence but ones the material will help your case, the court will admit it. Many have raised concerns about entrapment, entrapment is not part of the jurisprudence we are practising here.
“If someone has evidence that you want to take bribe or you are willing to take bribe or it shows that you are corrupt, the court will consider it and make a determination. They won’t look at how it was obtained. So, entrapment does not work in Ghana. In America, there is a lawful way of obtaining evidence, but in Ghana, we don’t have a lawful way of obtaining evidence, what we have is relevant evidence,” he said on the show.
Some Ghanaians have raised concerns about the method used by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas for his exposés, as many have described the method as “entrapment.”
It is based on these concerns Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor indicated that there is no law that makes entrapment illegal in Ghana.
Aremeyaw Anas’s latest exposé, dubbed ‘Galamsey Economy’ has compelled President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack the Minister of State in Charge of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen, from office.
Charles Adu Boahen alleged on video that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia needs just USD 200,000 as an ‘appearance fee’ and some positions from an investor for his siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
A member of the NPP communications team, Adomako Baafi, has raised concerns over the referral of Charles Adu Boahen to the Office of the Special Prosecutor for further investigations on allegations of corruption in the investigative exposé, ‘Galamsey Economy‘.
According to him, there is a conflict of interest as the Special Prosecutor was once the lawyer for investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in the case between former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi and Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
“The president referred Adu Boahen’s case to the Special Prosecutor. My worry is that the same Special Prosecutor is Anas’ lawyer. So, why will the president give him a case involving Adu Boahen? There is a conflict of interest here because how come the Special Prosecutor is Anas’ lawyer,” the MP noted.
In a press release, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Adjabeng, said his office has commenced an investigation into the actions of Charles Adu Boahen and any other implicated persons contained in the investigative exposé, ‘Galamsey Economy’.
Charles Adu Boahen alleged on video that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia needs just USD 200,000 as an ‘appearance fee’ and some positions from an investor for his siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.

Host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere has criticised the modus operandi of investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, following his recent expose implicating Minister of State for Finance, Charles Adu Boahen.
According to the journalists, he ever escaped two attempts of entrapment when some people sought to cause him to implicate himself.
“These things happen all the time and I have had experiences that I will share with you. First one happened many years ago in 2006 or 2007. I had some job to do in Takoradi so I was in a car going to Takoradi with two or three friends of mine.”
“The guy called me with some Arab sounding tone, he says he likes my programme and I said okay. Then he says he wants to appear on my programme. I said Okay you can appear on my programme, what do you want to say? He says he wants to talk about how my programme is good but the reason why he is calling me is that he wanted to know how much it costs to appear on my programme,” he recounted.
Paul Adom-Otchere noted that despite the insistence of the caller, he declined the invitation from the man who said he will ‘treat him well’
“I said please I am not interested in you making me happy. I am happy already, if you want to do something on the programme go to commercial,” he stated.
The programme host added that it later turned out that the call was a prank call from programme aired on Peace FM.
He further recalled his second experience where another anonymous caller sought to induce him with a proposal of leading him to meet the president.
“2018 or 2019, somebody called me and says he has 19 million dollars to give to Bank of Ghana but he is having difficulty in bringing the money to the Bank of Ghana so he called me. I said so what do you want me to do? He says I want you to take me the president and I said really? You want to bring money to Ghana and you want to go to the president, okay, go to Bank of Ghana and talk to them about it or go to finance ministry and talk to them about it.”
“Then he said I have 54 million. I said your 19 has now jumped to 54? He said yes, we have a lot of money we want to bring to Ghana but we want influential people we can take us…” he recalled.
He noted that he ignored the proposal by the anonymous caller insisting that he takes his business proposal to the appropriate government quarters.
“Should we be doing that as a country? I don’t agree. Should we engender, facilitate and encourage this kind of way in which we find corruption? I am not sure we should do that,” he cautioned.
Aremeyaw Anas’s latest exposé dubbed ‘Galamsey Economy’ has compelled President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack the Minister of State in Charge of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen from office.
Charles Adu Boahen on video alleged that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia needs just USD200,000 as an ‘appearance fee’ and some positions by an investor for his siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
Ken Ofori-Atta,the embattled Minister of Finance, was reportedly irritated by an attempt by some alleged investors – who in reality were members of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s camp – to give him money as a gift.
According to a report, Tiger Eye P.I. investigators pretended to be investors looking to invest in Ghana, and thus needed to meet with the Finance Minister to discuss opportunities and other modalities of doing business in Ghana.
According to the report, the investigators had earlier met with Charles Adu Boahen, Ofori-Atta’s deputy back in 2018, in a hotel suite in United Araba Emirates, UAE, where the now dismissed Adu Boahen was given monies in lieu of helping the investors get access to among other Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia who allegedly took a US$200,000 ‘appearance fee’ to meet investors.
After meeting with them, they then proceeded to meet with Ofori-Atta briefly at the Dubai airport whiles he was on transit to Tokyo on an official assignment.
The report established that neither the minister nor his PA accepted the money gift from the Tiger Eye P.I. team leaving the minister irritated.
“They were to have their chance, they thought when after several attempts Mr. Ofori-Atta agreed to meet them at the airport in Dubai on transit to Tokyo, Japan,” Asaase radio reportage stated.
“In the company of his then Personal Assistant (PA), Michael Bediako, Mr. Ofori-Atta met the supposed investors (investigators) at the Dubai terminal hotel (Dubai International Airport) on 5 April 2018 at around 6:30 am.
“Mr. Ofori-Atta was informed the meeting was with the Chairman of Al Baraka Islamic Bank of Bahrain, whose interest was to invest $500m to set up an “ethical” bank in Ghana.
“The meeting, per our checks, lasted some five minutes. Ken Ofori-Atta left very irritated when he was offered a “gift”, which he refused to accept, and walked out with his PA who was also offered a gift that was rejected as well,” the report added.
Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ latest ‘Galamsey Economy’ exposed Charles Adu Boahen, the dismissed Minister of State at the Finance Ministry over an alleged corruption scandal.
Anas in a post on his Facebook timeline hours before the showing of the‘Galamsey Economy’ film noted that the minister made some shocking revelations to his team in a hotel in UAE, when they posed as possible investors to Ghana.
Adu Boahen among other things alleged that Bawumia will require about USD200,000 as an appearance fee from an investor to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
All he needs is to worry about his campaign money in 2020.”
But Dr. Bawumia in a statement on Monday, November 14, denied the accusations and called for an investigation into the allegations.
Charles Adu Boahen has been accused of corruption, and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has asked the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, to look into the claims.
This comes after the president fired the minister of state for finance after the renowned journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ undercover investigative documentary accused him.
On Monday, November 14, 2022, the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) will host the broadcast of the investigative piece dubbed “Galamsey Economy,” but the Tiger Eye PI team has already provided a preview of what viewers might anticipate.
Included in that release, the investigative team said it met with the Minister of State in charge of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he stated that for the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to avail himself to them, they would have to pay $200,000 as an appearance fee.
“You mean, like appearance fees and stuff? I mean he, himself (the Vice President), if you give him some (USD) 200,000 or something as a token, as thank you, appreciation, that’s fine. He’s not really, he’s not really (like) that. All he needs is to worry about his campaign money in 2020,” Charles Adu Boahen said when he was asked how an investor can get the attention of the Vice President.
He added that an investor must also consider opportunities for the siblings of the vice president for his full support, apart from the USD200,000 appearance fee token to him.
But following these revelations, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in a statement dated Monday, November 14, 2022, sacked the minister.
“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has terminated the appointment of the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Charles Adu Boahen, with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Also, the president directed that the Special Prosecutor should take up the case and investigate the minister accordingly.
“After being made aware of the allegations levelled against the Minister in the exposé, ‘Galamsey Economy’, the President spoke to Mr. Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment, and also to refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations,” the statement added.
Dr. Gideon Boako, the spokesperson for the Vice President, has indicated that somebody contacted him earlier this year, claiming to be an investor and wanted to enquire about the ‘appearance fee’ to meet his boss, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, he did not probe further to know the background of the investor “because it was of no interest to me.”
Dr. Gideon Boako while speaking on Asempa FM’s ‘Ekosii Sen’ programme on Monday, November 14 stated that he spoke to the investor on phone.
“The exact day, I may not be able to tell, but they contacted me this year, 2022. I laughed and asked, an appearance fee? Why? is it that Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are going to have a super clash,” he said while laughing.
Dr Gideon Boako further stated that the supposed investor asked whether the ‘appearance fee’ is a norm, to which he replied, “no, that cannot happen. If that was the case, then I am not a poor man. I told them the Vice President as I know him, will never entertain such a thing. If you are his staff and entertain such a thing, you do that at your own risk.
“I told them that well, I do not know that person, but I will say categorically that the person did that on his own behalf and not on behalf of the Vice President because as far as I know the Vice President, it will never happen.
“I said to them that if the Vice President gets to know of that, he will recommend for the person to be questioned by the security agencies. It was only yesterday that Tiger Eye revealed the name of the person they were talking about,” Dr. Boako explained further.
Charles Adu Boahen, the dismissed Minister of State in charge of Finance had earlier alleged that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will require $200,000 as an appearance fee to meet prospective investors.
This was revealed by Anas Aremeyaw Anas in his latest undercover documentary dubbed “Galamsey Economy”.
The investigative journalist noted that Adu Boahen, in the undercover piece told his Tiger Eye PI team who posed as investors that Dr. Bawumia would also require some positions from the investor for his siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
But Dr. Bawumia in a statement on Monday, November 14, denied the accusations and called for an investigation into the allegations.
Charles Nii Teiko Tagoe, Executive Assistant & Head of Social Media, Office of the President, has chastised investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas over his latest investigative work dubbed ‘Galamsey Economy‘.
He described the investigative work of the journalist as ‘sheer wickedness and evil’.
The Presidential Staffer noted that Anas Aremeyaw Anas is known for recording people and editing them to suit his narrative, something that the former Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi suffered in the Number 12 documentary by Tiger Eye PI, Anas’ investigative firm.
He extended his criticism to Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, Anas’ boss when he was commenting on the investigative work which triggered the dismissal of Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State in charge of Finance.
“I’m soo soo disappointed in my senior brother and mentor Abdul Malik Kweku Baako. Anas Aremeyaw Anas was my classmate at Secondary School and still a very good friend of mine.
“Recording people and editing the recording with your own voice-over to suit your story is nothing but share (sic) wickedness and evil. He did it to Kwasi Nyantakyi and the country looked on. All I can say is that, we are all in the hands of the Lord,” Charles Nii Teiko Tagoe wrote on his Facebook timeline.
Charles Adu Boahen, the dismissed Minister of State in charge of Finance had earlier alleged that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will require $200,000 as an appearance fee to meet prospective investors.
This was revealed in Anas’ ‘Galamsey Economy’ investigation.
The investigative journalist noted that Adu Boahen, in the undercover piece told his Tiger Eye PI team members posing as investors that Dr. Bawumia would also require some positions from the investor for his siblings, in orfer to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
But Dr. Bawumia in a statement on Monday, November 14, denied the accusations and called for an investigation into the allegations.
Charles Nii Teiko Tagoe’s post has since been deleted.
It has emerged that the latest undercover investigation by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team, was filmed as far back as 2018.
It turns out that the investigative team faced some challenges which delayed the airing of the piece dubbed ‘Galamsey Economy‘.
GhanaWeb sources indicate that after the necessary footage was recorded in 2018, the lead investigator in the person of Ahmed Hussein-Suale was shot and killed on 16th January 2019, by some unknown persons.
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, the Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide commented on a Facebook post by one Kwadwo Yeboah-Gyan, as to why his protégé, Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his team used four years to make the investigation public.
He said, what the author of the Facebook post should have done is to “find out what happened within the 4-year period which may have delayed things! Did somebody steal some of the records and sold them to somebody? Did the lead investigator die an unnatural death? And how did these things impact the capacity of the original investigators?”
Baako said, aside from all those challenges, the investigative files were stolen and sold to somebody who went out boasting about having the files of Anas and his team.
Little did the buyer know that the original owners had a backup file which they later retrieved and used to complete the ‘Galamsey Economy’ work.
“Somebody ‘stole and sold’ it to somebody; thinking the evidence had been deleted forever! The ‘buyer’ went out boasting about his possession for years for whatever reason nobody could tell! Apparently, the real ‘owners/author’ subsequently discovered an extra copy! Today’s story begins from there pay attention,” Abdul Malik Kweku Baako stressed.
Charles Adu Boahen, the dismissed Minister of State at the Finance Ministry was exposed in the latest undercover investigative piece which was publicly premiered on November 14.
Anas in a post on his Facebook timeline hours before the showing of the ‘Galamsey Economy’ film noted that the minister made some shocking revelations to his team in a hotel in UAE, when they posed as possible investors to Ghana.
He said, Adu Boahen alleged the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will require about USD200,000 as an appearance fee from an investor to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
He said, when his Tiger Eye PI team met with the Minister of State in charge of Finance in UAE, he spoke about Bawumia’s financial demands before agreeing to assist any investor.
“You mean, like appearance fees and stuff? I mean he, himself (the Vice President), if you give him some (USD) 200,000 or something as a token, as thank you, appreciation, that’s fine. He’s not really, he’s not really (like) that. All he needs is to worry about his campaign money in 2020,” Charles Adu Boahen is quoted to have said.
But Dr. Bawumia in a statement on Monday, November 14, denied the accusations and called for an investigation into the allegations.
The spokesperson of the Vice President, Dr. Gideon Boako has refuted the allegation attributed to the dismissed Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Mr. Charles Adu Boahen.
Mr. Adu Boahen is alleged to have said, in a yet-to-be-aired under-cover expose by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, that Vice President Bawumia needed $200 as an appearance fee to meet prospective investors.
The documentary is dubbed “Galamsey Economy” and is expected to be premiered on Monday at the Accra International Conference Centre.
In the documentary, Mr. Adu Boahen is said to have told the undercover investigators that Dr. Bawumia would also require some positions from the investor for his siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
According to Dr. Gideon Boako, he does not recollect any private meeting between Mr. Adu Boahen and the Vice President.
Speaking to JoyNews on Monday, November 14, 2022, Dr Boako stated that apart from attending an EMT (Economic Management Team) meeting, there hasn’t been any engagement.
“I have no idea why he said so. I work so closely with the Vice President, I do not remember the last time Charles Adu Boahen visited the Vice President’s house. I am always with the Vice President – from morning to evening, and I don’t remember the last time I even saw Charles in his house. I don’t remember the last time Charles had a private conversation with Dr. Bawumia,” he said.
Due to the above explanations provided, he stated that what the Vice President is being accused of is false and weird, adding that “I do not see the head and tail of it.”
Earlier, Dr. Bawumia denied the accusations and called for the Minister to be sacked and investigated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
The Spokesperson said the call for a full-blown investigation into the matter is in place.
Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo has terminated the appointment of the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen, with immediate effect.
In a statement on Monday from the Presidency, the Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin, said, “After being made aware of the allegations levelled against the Minister in the exposé, ‘Galamsey Economy’, the President spoke to Mr Adu Boahen, after which he took the decision to terminate his appointment, and also to refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations.”
He said the President thanked Mr. Adu Boahen for his strong services to his government since his appointment in 2017 and wished him well in his future endeavours.
Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has distanced himself from corruption allegations levelled against him by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas of Tiger Eye in his yet to be released exposé.
On Monday, the journalist in a Facebook post accused Charles Adu Boahen, then Minister for State at the Finance Ministry of corruption in his interactions with investors.
Anas Aremayaw Anas alleged that the former Minister requested an amount of USD200,000 from investors under cover to be given to the Vice President.
“Charles Adu Boahen, Minister of State in charge of Finance at the Office of the President, has revealed to Tiger Eye that the Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, needs just USD200,000 token as an appearance fee and some positions by an investor for the Vice President’s siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
“This revelation was made in a meeting with Tiger Eye investigators, who in an undercover investigation, posed as businessmen, in a hotel room in the United Arab Emirates. This was an investigation into top-level corruption that undermines investor confidence in Ghana.
“According to Charles Adu Boahen, the Vice President needs an appearance fee of only USD 200,000 for him to avail himself and offer his support to an investor,” parts of his post read.
Reacting to this, the Vice President has noted that he is “not aware of any such meeting held by Minister Adu Boahen or a supposed “appearance fee”.
According to Dr Bawumia, his most cherished asset in life is his integrity, thus, “I will not allow anyone to use my name to engage in corrupt activities.”
He also noted that Mr Charles Adu Boahen must be dismissed should he be found culpable of the allegations levelled against him.
“I would like to state that if what the minister is alleged to have said is accurately captured in the video, then his position as a minister of state is untenable. He should be dismissed summarily and investigated,” he wrote.
Briefly after the Vice President’s comments, the Presidency in a press statement sighted by The Independent Ghana, has announced that the appointment of Mr Charles Adu Boahen has been terminated.
President Akufo-Addo only dismissed the Minister after reaching out to him on the matter, the statement noted.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has revealed that it would “refer the matter to the Special Prosecutor for further investigations.”
The exposé dubbed “Galamsey Economy” by Anas Aremeyaw Anas will be premiered today at 8PM at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Dr. Gideon Boako, an aide to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, has contradicted claims by the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen, that the Vice President will need US$200,000 as an appearance fee from any investor.
According to him, the Vice President is smart and discreet whenever he is dealing with individuals seeking to invest in the economy.
Charles Adu Boahen had allegedly told investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, in an undercover recording that Bawumia required about USD200,000 as an appearance fee from an investor to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.
The celebrated investigative journalist in a November 14, 2022 post on his Facebook timeline stated that when his Tiger Eye PI team met with the Minister of State in charge of Finance in UAE, he spoke about Bawumia’s financial demands before agreeing to assist any investor.
“You mean, like appearance fees and stuff? I mean he, himself (the Vice President), if you give him some (USD) 200,000 or something as a token, as thank you, appreciation, that’s fine. He’s not really, he’s not really (like) that. All he needs is to worry about his campaign money in 2020,” Charles Adu Boahen is quoted to have said
But when the Tiger Eye team got in touch with Dr Gideon Boako, the Economic Advisor and Spokesperson at the Office of the Vice President, he denied that the Vice President has authorized or discussed with anybody to solicit funds for his political ambitions or to accept an appearance fee/token for an investor to meet with him.
“So, on top of my head and having been with him closely, I will say no. I know how discreet he, the Vice President, is and he is smart and he wouldn’t even dare do such a thing,” Dr Boako remarked.
Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ undercover documentary dubbed ‘Galamsey Economy’ shows at the Accra International Conference Centre at 4.00 PM.
The management of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) has said that the showing of the ‘Galamsey Economy’ documentary by Tiger Eye PI, headed by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, will come off at the centre as scheduled.
The management said the matter which resulted in rescheduling of the venue, has been resolved.
“Our attention has been drawn to reports that an advertised event due to take place at the Accra international Conference Centre (AICC) by Tiger Eye PI was being moved from our venue.
“The initial confusion was due to a scheduling conflict at the level of the AICC staff and not in any way a pollical decision as is being speculated.
“The matter has been resolved. We have made contact with the organizers and the event is expected to come off as scheduled.”
Tiger Eye PI earlier said in series of tweets on Sunday November 13 that it “is saddened that barely 48 hours to the public screenings, when invitations have been sent to the diplomatic community and other high-profile individuals in society, and flyers sent out to the public, we have had to look for a new venue.
“We would like to apologise to the public for the inconvenience in change of venue. Our agent is securing another auditorium and we will update the public soon on the new venue.
“All tickets already out are valid for the new venue.”
Anas Aremeyaw Anas, an investigative journalist, is set to premiere his latest undercover investigative piece on how illegal small-scale mining, galamsey, is destroying the environment in Ghana.
Dubbed ‘Galamsey Economy,’ the undercover investigation according to a flyer released by the journalist indicates that it is a collaboration between Anas’ Tiger Eye PI and some Civil Society Organisations [CSOs].
On Thursday, November 11, 2022, the journalist released a teaser of what Ghanaians should expect in his latest exposé.
The video starts with some people in an aircraft implying that they are flying to Kotoka International Airport [KIA].
There are scenes from KIA, Jubilee House, some galamsey sites and interaction between Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Angela Palmer-Buckle, Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast.
“It is an eyesore…the dark secrets…not everything you see will happen” – these are some of the inscriptions in the one minute thirty-three seconds video posted on his social media handle.
Hours after the video was posted, popular Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya shared Anas’ video with some screenshot of a galamsey site and wrote:
“Big man Anas! Is that my shot??? Did this amateur galamsay content 5 years ago!”
When his followers replied and asked him to take action, Wode Maya in another post wrote after deleting the earlier post:
“My YouTube channel videos are licensed under ‘common creatives’ which gives everyone access to use my content without a strike! The goal is the message to spread Not To Make Money!
“Btw my first copyright Strike on my YouTube channel was from a Ghanaian brother.”
Anas’ ‘Galamsey Economy’ investigative piece will be premièred on November 14 and 15 at 8pm each day.
Lawyers for investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas have asked the public to disregard media reports suggesting that the Supreme Court has ordered him to testify in a court case without his iconic face mask.
In a statement dated November 8, 2022, and issued Tuesday night, Cromwell Gray LLP, lawyers for the ace journalist stated: “Anas may choose to testify as a prosecution witness or not.”
“Anas and his Tiger Eye team will continue to wear the iconic face beads as a symbol of impartial anonymity in investigative journalism and to highlight the extreme risks in that line of duty,” they stated.
Supreme Court
The Supreme Court had quashed the Accra High Court’s decision for Anas Aremeyaw Anas, to testify in-camera against Kwesi Nyantakyi for his documentary dubbed ‘Number 12’ on football administration and alleged bribery.
A witness for the Republic, Ahmed Suale, who was one of the investigative journalists in respect of the documentary, was murdered in Madina, Accra weeks before his testimony could be taken.
Anas Aremeyaw Anas had then agreed to testify in the stead of Ahmed Suale, on condition that he be allowed to do so in camera or in chambers.
The court had agreed but lawyers for the accused person, Kwesi Nyantakyi petitioned the Supreme Court to quash the High Court’s decision for Anas to testify in camera.
The Supreme Court, presided over by Justice Baffoe-Bonnie on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, granted the application for certiorari filed by Kwesi Nyantakyi quashing the order of the Accra High Court granting a dispensation to Anas to testify in camera as a prosecution witness in the criminal case entitled Republic v Kwesi Nyantakyi & Another.
In March 2022, during Case Management Conference, the High Court presided over by Justice Elfreda Dankyi granted an application by the prosecution for Anas to give evidence in camera as a prosecution witness in the case of Republic v Kwesi Nyantakyi and Another.
Mr Nyantakyi therefore applied to the Supreme Court for an order of certiorari to quash the dispensation given to Anas.
Grounds
Mr Nyantakyi’s grounds for going to the Supreme Court were that the order of the High Court offended the human rights of the applicant as guaranteed under the 1992 Constitution, that the order was made without regard to the procedures and rules of court which required that a formal and not an oral application be made in such circumstances; and the order of the court was made in excess of jurisdiction of the court.
The Supreme Court upheld the application and quashed the order of the High Court as having been made without the requisite legal basis.
Following that, some media reports had suggested that Anas would now have to testify in open court without his iconic face mask.
Reaction by Anas’s lawyers
But reacting to the media reports on the ruling by the Supreme Court, lawyers for Anas explained that the criminal proceedings were instituted following Anas’ petition filed with the Attorney-General.
“The Star witness for the Republic, Ahmed Suale, who was one of the investigative journalists in respect of the documentary, was murdered in Madina, Accra weeks before his testimony could be taken.”
“Anas Aremeyaw Anas agreed to testify in the stead of Ahmed Suale on condition that he be allowed to do so in camera or in chambers.”
“The public should disregard false reportage that Anas has been ordered by the Supreme Court or is being compelled by the Supreme Court to appear in court without his trademark face beads.
“Anas may choose to testify as a prosecution witness or not. Anas and his Tiger Eye team will continue to wear the iconic face beads as a symbol of impartial anonymity in investigative journalism and to highlight the extreme risks in that line of duty.”

PRESS RELEASE
IN RE: REPUBLIC v. KWESI NYANTAKYI & ANOTHER
We are lawyers for the celebrated undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Our attention has been drawn to developments in the ongoing criminal trial of the former head of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi who is standing trial for corruption and fraud over the Number12 investigative report aired in 2018. The documentary uncovered football related corruption in Ghana and other African countries.
The criminal proceedings were instituted following Anas’ petition filed with the Attorney-General.
The Star witness for the Republic, Ahmed Suale, who was one of the investigative journalists in respect of the documentary, was murdered in Madina, Accra weeks before his testimony could be taken.
Anas Aremeyaw Anas agreed to testify in the stead of Ahmed Suale on condition that he be allowed to do so in camera or in chambers.
The public should disregard false reportage that Anas has been ordered by the Supreme Court or is being compelled by the Supreme Court to appear in court without his trademark face beads.
Anas may choose to testify as a prosecution witness or not. Anas and his Tiger Eye team will continue to wear the iconic face beads as a symbol of impartial anonymity in investigative journalism and to highlight the extreme risks in that line of duty. Cromwell Gray LLP 8 November 2022
The Supreme Court has quashed an Accra High Court order for investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, to testify in-camera against Kwesi Nyantakyi for his documentary dubbed ‘Number 12’.
With this ruling, the ace investigative journalist has to appear in court without his trade mark mask.
Presided over by Justice Baffoe-Bonnie on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, the Judge granted an application for certiorari filed by Kwesi Nyantakyiquashing the order of High Court 2, Criminal Division, Accra granting a dispensation to Anas Aremeyaw Anas to testify in camera as a prosecution witness in the criminal case entitled Republic v Kwesi Nyantakyi & Another.
It may be recalled that in March 2022, during Case Management Conference, the High Court 2, criminal division presided over by her ladyship Elfreda Dankyi peremptorily granted an ORAL application by the prosecution for Anas Aremeyaw Anas to give evidence in camera as a prosecution witness in the case of Republic v Kwesi Nyantakyi and Another.
Dissatisfied with the said decision of the High Court, Mr Nyantakyi through lead counsel, Thaddeus Sory of Sory@Law, applied to the Supreme Court for an order of certiorari to quash the dispensation given to Anas Aremeyaw Anas by the High Court.
The application was premised on three grounds; that the order of the High Court offended the human rights of the applicant as guaranteed under the 1992 Constitution, that the order was made without regard to the procedures and rules of court which required that a formal and not an oral application be made in such circumstances; and the order of the court was made in excess of jurisdiction of the court.
The Supreme Court upheld the application and quashed the order of the High Court as having been made without the requisite legal basis.
By today’s decision, Anas Aremeyaw Anas must testify in open court as any other witness does in court without any privileges.
The Supreme Court of Ghana has delivered a damaging blow to Anas Aremeyaw Anas after ordering the journalist to appear in open court without his usual face mask to face Kwesi Nyantakyi.
The highest ruling body in Ghana ruled on Tuesday morning that the reluctant journalist must appear in court without any face mask covering to testify in the case with the former Ghana FA President.
Anas, who has been extremely reluctant to appear in court let alone without his mask, will now be publicly seen in court in his real flesh as he testifies in court.
This comes after the Supreme Court quashed an earlier ruling by a lower court giving permission to Anas to testify in camera.
The journalist, whose investigation led to Nyantakyi resigning several football posts, claimed his life would be in danger if he testifies in court.
The order of the High Court 2, Criminal Division granted permission to Anas Aremeyaw Anas to testify on camera in the case against Kwesi Nyantakyi.
But on appeal by lawyers of Nyantakyi, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the former football chief and asked Anas to appear in flesh to be cross-examined in open court by Nyantakyi.
By this decision of the Supreme Court Anas Amereyaw Anas must give evidence in open court.
Nyantakyi is fighting his case against the controversial journalist in a bid to clear his name.
The former Ghana FA capo is serving a global ban following the documentary.
Nyantakyi, who was rising to the very top of global football administration, had to step aside from his roles with Caf including as 1st vice-president, the most senior figure at the confederation after its former president, Ahmad.
Nyantakyi and other football officials from around the continent were secretly filmed by undercover reporters receiving cash gifts as part of a documentary by controversial Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Ace investigative Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has hinted at releasing a new exposé.
Anas Aremeyaw Anas, touching on corruption in Ghana, has been out of action since 2020 after an expose on the coronavirus and matters arising.
However, in a Facebook post on Monday, 7 November, 2022, the journalist posted “Are you ready? To show or not to show ?I need the answers quickly so we can decide”.
His latest post sparks a lot of diverse comments especially at an era where there have been several corrupt allegations and other matters that are yet to be unraveled.
Anas Aremeyaw Anas has over the years released series of under cover works that exposes corrupt acts of leaders that have adversely affected the development of the country.
The High Court in Accra presided over by Justice Eric Baah has fixed February 16, next year, (2023), to deliver judgement in the case in which Ace Investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas has sued Kennedy Agyepong for defamation.
The Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) is facing a GHc25M sum from Anas over some comments he (MP) had allegedly made against the investigative journalist in public after airing his investigative piece #Number 12, which exposed some rots in Ghana Football.
Justice Eric Baah, a Justice of the Court of Appeal who is sitting with additional responsibility as a High Court judge, fixed the date after the parties had ended their testimonies.
EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent Murtala Inusah reports that the lawyers have been directed to file their written addresses by December 6, 2022, and they would be back in 2023 for judgement.
He said the MP had been publishing materials in his bid to discredit the investigative journalist, who has released an explosive piece on the rot in Ghana football.
Displeased with the MP’s actions, Anas has, through his lawyer, Mr Kissi Agyebeng, sued Mr Agyapong for the award of general damages for defamation in the defendant’s publications.
A journalist, Mr Listowell Yesu Bukarson, has been granted the lawful attorney to stand in for Anas.
Publications
The publication complained of are May 29, 2018 live programme in Twi on Adom TV, where Mr Agyapong categorically stated that Anas was a blackmailer, corrupt, an extortionist and evil.
According to the statement of claim, the defendant, in a similar manner, published defamatory words on May 31, 2018 via Oman FM, a private radio station owned by the defendant.
The statement of claim also stated that the defendant published more defamatory materials against the plaintiff via other platforms to the extent of releasing pictures purported to be those of the investigative journalist in his bid to blow the latter’s cover.
Corrupt Ghanaian politicians must be aware that Anas Aremeyaw is returning soon. The private investigator, who is based in Ghana, has found a way to combat corruption in that country, but since the truth is never allowed to reign in any society and those who advocate it frequently become enemies, this investigative journalist under the “TigerEye” firm, has experienced his fair share of assaults, disgrace, criticism, hatred, and undermining, which has prevented him from working for a while.
Many Ghanaians, notably anti-NDC fans and columnists, were against Anas and tried to bring him down since he was exposing corrupt politicians in the government of the Ghanaian leader, Nana Akufo Addo. Many Ghanaians did not value Anas Aremeyaw Anas‘ work in Ghana, a country where the truth isn’t vital in politics and where crime and corruption are tolerated by the current administration.
Anas experienced his fair share of humiliation, assault, ridicule, and dishonor, yet he never defended himself when things got tough. In an article I wrote titled “The Profound Qualities Of Mahama And Anas,” I discussed how both Mahama and Anas had experienced their fair share of accolades, humiliations, and accusations, but the best quality about them was how they handled such situations without defending themselves.
Even though President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo promised to protect the public’s purse and even stated that he will utilize “Anas’ ideas” to combat corruption in the country, he failed the nation. Therefore; Anas took it upon himself to change things in the country with the intention of making a difference. Many Ghanaians turned against the investigative journalist after exposing the biggest corruption in Ghana’s football.
The institutionalized corruption in Ghana’s football was a lucrative business that is more advantageous to those involved, including Kwasi Nyantekyi and the president, Nana Akufo Addo, therefore; many corrupt and ungrateful Ghanaians considered Anas’ investigation as a wrong thing to do, accusing him of collapsing Ghana’s football. Who in their right mind would blame the collapse of Ghana’s football on someone who had revealed corruption in the sport?
Nana Akufo Addo has been linked to numerous corruption-related controversies aside from the football controversy that made national newspaper headlines. The most recent is about illegal mining in the country, which has resulted in the destruction of Ghana’s waters and environments but hardly did the press react until the situation got worse because it’s not John Mahama who is in power.
Mahama did not inflict the same level of destruction as Akufo Addo, but the majority of Ghanaians and the anti-NDC media did not spare him. With the assistance of dishonest judges, politicians, and journalists, Akufo Addo used his position and abused the constitution in his interest. The failure of the NPP government today seems to have inspired Anas to come back and continue where he left off.
After being exposed in a bribery and corruption case involving illegal mining in Ghana, also known as Galamsey, Charles Bissue claimed that Anas had set him up. The bribery case actually went cold because the NPP government never took Akufo Addo’s vow to seriously combat corruption. The president went on to appoint those who were heavily involved in corruption issues, such as Eugene Arhin, Charles Bissue, and Paul Adom-Otchere.
More crucially, when the late NPP politician Sir John’s will revealed his illegitimate wealth accumulation, the Special Prosecutor froze his assets. Surprisingly, the president issued an order releasing the politician’s assets to his family. Is this the kind of president Ghanaians are expecting to give them a better future?
They say you have two options: either retire or join them in spreading the false propaganda while your adversaries are trying to kill you because you are standing up for the truth. Like Anas, I took a break from them when I refused to join them and then returned to face the empire of treacherous opponents that had been tormenting me because I was writing against the corruption of Akufo Addo and the impending doom for our country.
I wrote, “Be Strong And Stand Firm, Anas Aremeyaw Anas” for ModernGhana and “How can Anas recover from a dead-end career?,” for Ghanaweb when Anas had disappeared from the media landscape. The term “lazy” is used by society to describe someone who is not making a substantial contribution, but when you work hard to accomplish something, you end up surrounded by many opponents. That is the Anas’ narrative.
The majority of Ghanaians can now see the damage this particular government called the NPP has done to our dear country Ghana, considering the collapsed economy, high rates of unemployment, crime and corruption, and an enormous debt without accountability. There was a time when you write against Akufo Addo, despite the truth, there are always people to attack you. Now that the dust has settled and the devastation is seen, those attacks have subsided.
Hunger is now a treat as food, basic necessities, and gasoline prices have drastically increased beyond the control of desperate customers. Inflation has reached its highest height in history. As I keep saying that everything has a time, and Anas’ retaliation is just around the corner.
After the NPP government’s fall, I think Anas is gearing up to return even more powerfully to finish what he started and this time, to expose and avenge what was done to him. I was surprised to hear him speak up against Charles Bissue’s lies once more, especially in light of the death of his colleague, Ahmed Hussein-Suale
Undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has revealed details on why he backed down on an earlier decision to involve the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in his galamsey investigation.
This was contained in a statement by the celebrated journalist, who is also the owner of Tiger Eye PI, over his 2019 documentary dubbed “Galamsey Fraud part 1.”
The investigation, which looked at the rot in the galamsey menace and how some top government officials were involved in it, also implicated a former secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Bissue.
According to the statement, any claim that runs contrary to what the company said was without merit as Charles Bissue was caught engaged in bribery and corruption.
In a statement dated October 7, the owner of Tiger Eye PI said the documentary which was carried out on “truth, facts and audio-evidence,” was sent to the CID as a way of getting their blessing on it before it was aired.
However, the statement added, something fishy happened along the way that got the team to back out from seeking the help of the police investigators.
“While investigations were ongoing under the OSP, we noticed a parallel investigation (an unwelcomed intrusion) was opened by the Tiwaah Addo Danquah-led CID on the back of a so-called complaint from the Chairman of the IMCIM, Prof. Frimpong Boateng, which generated enormous public opprobrium
“Tiger Eye, sensing a fishy move had been designed to undermine the investigations of the OSP, took a decision not to collaborate with the CID since the same would have amounted to duplication of effort and a waste of precious resources, especially so when we suspected the whole CID intrusion was a smokescreen. Therefore, the so-called CID report which Mr. Bissue always hurriedly likes to bask in had no inputs from Tiger Eve who were the sole authors of the Galamsey Fraud investigations, and so, Tiger Eye considers the said report as a white-washing antic with no credibility,” the statement said.
Also in the statement, Tiger Eye PI’s Anas Aremeyaw Anas insisted that its 2019 documentary was nothing but the true representation of what transpired.
It added that any claim that runs contrary to what the company said was without merit as Charles Bissue was caught engaged in bribery and corruption.
“Tiger Eye’s position, conduct and approach to all investigations are based on truth, facts and audio-visual evidence. Tiger Eye affirms and maintains its investigations and conclusion on the Galamsey Fraud documentary about Mr. Charles Bissue and other staff at the dissolved IMCIM. Any claims or allegations to the contrary are false and without merit.
“Mr. Charles Bissue engaged in bribery and corruption and Tiger Eye uncovered this in the form of audio-visual evidence when undercover journalists posed as owners of an abandoned mining company,” a part of the statement read.
Anas further refuted Charles Bissue’s claim that agents of Tiger Eye P.I demanded payment of monies in order not to air the documentary.
He maintained that it was a “figment of his imagination” for him to think that monies would be collected to sweep the documentary under the carpet to avoid his disgrace when it has already been advertised.

There has been a new twist in the case of defamation brought against the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, by ace undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, after the Chief Justice admitted the request of one party for a choice of a judge to continue the hearing of the case.
Kennedy Agyapong had written to the CJ, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, requesting that judge Eric Baah be retained in the defamation case after a substantive judge had been put on the case, stating timing and knowledge of the case for their choice.
According to a 3news.com report, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker had apparently written to the Chief Justice, through his lawyers, to have Justice Eric Baah, who had earlier been put on the case in a substantive capacity, to rather be retained on the case currently running at the High Court.
The lawyers for Kennedy Agyapong had argued that Justice Gifty Addo, the substantive judge on the case after Justice Daniel Mensah (the Dormaahene), who initially started handling the case in 2018 but was in 2020 transferred to Tema, was not qualified enough to handle it.
After his transfer, Justice Baah, a Court of Appeal judge, who had sat on the case as an additional High Court Judge, took over but temporarily until Justice Gifty Addo was brought in.
The report added that unhappy with this decision, and on the blind of the other party in the case, lawyers for the defendant, wrote to the Chief Justice to request that Justice Baah is rather maintained on the case.
“I am aware that a new Judge has been posted to the High Court, General Jurisdiction Division 2. It will take some time for the record of proceedings to be put together for the new Judge. She will need further time to study the record to familiarize herself with it to enable her effectively continue it. She also does not have the benefit of the demanour of the witnesses so far,†the request to the CJ stated in part.
This request was eventually granted, with the lawyers for the complainant, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, only finding out after they went to court for a sitting.
