  • ‘Cashing in on COVID’: Ridge hospital workers cash in on PPE amid coronavirus

An Anas Aremeyaw Anas and BBC Africa Eye undercover investigation have revealed that some staff in Ghana’s hospitals have been selling vital personal protective equipment (PPE) for personal profit.

“More than 2,000 medical workers in Ghana have been infected by coronavirus,” Anas said in the documentary.

Ghana has faced a severe lack of PPEs such as visors, face masks and bodysuits.

The undercover investigation shows how some medical workers are profiteering at the expense of their colleagues who are being exposed to danger.

Thomas Osei and Divine Kumodzi, two staff of the Greater of Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital), were caught selling (PPEs) which were meant for the frontline workers.

The two staff of the hospital were seen diverting the PPEs for their private again.

Africa Eye investigators successfully negotiated and sold a PPE purchasing deal worth $450 with Thomas Osei within the offices of Ridge Hospital but he denies the allegation, saying the items were his personal property.

Divine Kumodzi, on the other hand, made a fortune from selling PPEs which was made by the hospital itself. Ridge hospital produces some PPEs to augment the ones received from the government and other institutions and persons.

  • Anas’ Judicial Exposé: No dismissed Judge has been reinstated – Kweku Baako

Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, has dismissed reports that the judges who were dismissed following a judicial corruption scandal exposé by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas have been reinstated.

It will be recalled that Anas Aremeyaw Anas, during one of his investigative missions, unearthed a rot in Ghana’s judicial system.

Anas’ undercover work showed some judges taking bribes to skew their verdict while others also conducted themselves in a manner that brought the judiciary into disrepute.

The former Chief Justice, Georgina Wood, instituted a Committee of Inquiry into the issue and found the judges guilty, therefore, dismissing them from the courts they presided over.

Kweku Baako, speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”, stated that he has stumbled on a report recently circulating on social media which claims the judges have been reinstalled to their positions.

According to him, the reports are “fake news peddled by bogus informants”.

“My checks, specially with the General Legal Council, showed that was actually fake story. And the bloody truth is that the Chief Justice doesn’t have the power, authority or mandate to have done what was attributed to him. The truth is none of those dismissed judges has been reinstated,” he added.

He, however, disclosed a petition was made to the Chief Justice after the judges were dismissed to ascertain if they could practice as lawyers because their dismissal doesn’t affect their role as lawyers.

He told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that, after examining the petition, the Chief Justice reissued “their certificates to practice as lawyers” and not as judges.

  • ‘I don’t want to give heart attack to Ghanaians because its election year’- Anas

Investigative award winning journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has said that he doesn’t want to cause trouble for some politicians and Ghanaians at large in Ghana because its an election year and tensions are already high.

He made this disclosure in a one on one exclusive with CITI TV’s Bernard Avle on Point of View after the exposé was premiered on CITI TV at 9:00pm

Bernard Avle asked Anas why he didn’t do anything on politicians in 2020 since its an election year and corruption activities may be at a high.

Bernard said: “At least, it will help for people to be cautious.”

But Anas said doing something like that in this year may cause havoc and as usual will be a platform for an opposition to jump on.

He said: “We decided to go into the private sector this time because we like the atmosphere in the country.”

“We don’t want to cause fear and panic in the country. Further, its an election year and if we expose someone in a top position now, another is standing by to capitalise on that.”

“But although we have not done anything on politicians, we have enough if we want to expose one on them.”

The host then asked how that was possible because it took time for ‘Covid Qwacks’ to be even done, how much more on political activities.

Anas responded: “I am an investigative journalist, Bernard. We invest issues on almost everyday basis.”

“We do get calls that people suspect bad happenings at certain places and we go there and investigate so we can put together enough for the politician if we want to do something this year.”

Anas ended by revealing that part two of Covid-19 qwacks will be premeiered soon.

But before we go, lets tease small. This guy was a legend in the video. Vibes be what? Leave us a comment if you dey feel am,lol.

  • Corona Quacks II to expose AMA and a major hospital – Anas hints

Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has hinted that the second part of his exposé on the coronavirus pandemic will show how some persons profiteered from measures taken by government to ease the burden on Ghanaians during the lockdown in Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi.

He cited the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) as complicit in the sale of food meant to be distributed freely for residents.

“I recall when the announcement was being made of the food that should be given to the poor and I was driving to AMA because my source had told me that while the President was busily announcing where it should go and all that, my source was telling me that the food was available for sale.

“So, I went there and I bought rice, eggs, oil and all that that is supposed to go to the poor. This is what you will see in Number 2.

“You will also see a hospital and all these cries about PPEs…and somebody is busily stealing. . . .”

He made these known in an exclusive interview on TV3s News@10 on Monday, June 29, announcing that that second part will be ready in a fortnight.
