A female running mate cannot thrive in Ghana – Allotey Jacobs

Former Central Region Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has expressed reservations about the prospect of having a female running mate, contending that Ghana is not currently prepared for such a development.

While acknowledging the pivotal role a suitable running mate plays in the success of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he argued that the prevailing attitudes towards women in Ghanaian politics have not evolved since Kwame Nkrumah’s era.

Speaking on Peace FM Mr Allotey Jacobs highlighted the challenges faced by women in the rough terrain of politics and cited the limited representation of women in Parliament as indicative of societal perceptions.

“I don’t think Ghana is ripe for a woman as a Running Mate. Ghana is not ripe for it. We haven’t changed our attitude from Kwame Nkrumah’s time till date. We are still the same. Ghana is not ripe for a woman as a running mate. We haven’t changed at all; it’s the same  attitude”.

He explained that “when a woman enters politics, they (Ghanaians) look at the woman from a different angle altogether,” exclaiming, “our politician’s terrain is very, very rough!”

“How many women MPs do you get in Parliament?” he questioned when challenged by a panel member, Kwamena Duncan, that there are some women leaders in the House of Parliament and in other areas of political influence.

Despite expressing optimism for a future where Ghana embraces women in prominent political roles, Allotey Jacobs remained skeptical about their acceptance as running mates in the present political climate.

The ongoing debate surrounding the selection of a Running Mate for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming December 7 presidential elections has garnered increased attention.

Certain members and supporters within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have initiated lobbying efforts, with Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (‘NAPO’), the Minister of Energy, emerging as a notable candidate.

NAPO is touted for possessing unique leadership qualities that some believe would enhance the NPP’s electoral prospects in the upcoming elections.

Influential party member Kennedy Agyapong, the Assin Central lawmaker, is among those who vocally endorse NAPO as the right candidate for the position.

I’ve been having nightmares since Bawumia spent 20 minutes with my son’s corpse – Kwabena Boadu’s mother

Mother of the late aide to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kwabena Boadu, has revealed that she has been experiencing nightmares since her son was buried in 2016.

Late Kwabena Boadu died through electrocution at the Upland Hotel while on campaign duties in the Upper West Region with Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Years after his burial, the bereaved family has made accusations of spiritual activities against the Vice President.

The mother of the deceased alleges that during her son’s wake, Vice President Dr Bawumia and his wife, Samira, cleared out the room where her son’s body was and spent 20 minutes alone.

“That fateful Friday, I was there with my mother and other family members. Then Dr Bawumia and his wife and some NPP bigwigs also came. My son was dressed in a coat. I was crying close to my son’s casket. He was exactly 30 years and 20 days. It got to a time, one of the big NPP boys came to tell us that he begs the family that we should go out because Dr Bawumia says he wants to be alone with his aide and his wife. So he begs us, we should move out. I didn’t understand so I was reluctant but my mother and other relatives told me to allow them. We got out. They locked the door with just Bawumia and his wife inside for about 15 to 20 minutes.

I don’t know what they did to my son, whether Islamic traditions or what,” she said.

    Bawumia consoles bereaved family

The bereaved mother noted that since that fateful day, she has been having nightmares.

Recounting one of her many nightmares, she said, “I was moving somewhere and suddenly, I heard a noise in a room. I was quiet and wondered why. I saw an opened room. Something pushed me to go check what was happening inside. I told my sister this dream. When I entered, I saw my son Kwabena Boadu and he was just in shorts and shirtless. His upper body was inflicted with cutlass wounds and there was an Islamic inscription on his body. I then asked him what he is doing there. He told me this is where they placed me. He cried when he told me this,” she said in a video shared by Dada Boat TV.

It’s important to note that these are claims made by the family, and without verifiable evidence, they should be treated with caution.

Ghana will be in safer hands when Bawumia is voted in – Atta Akyea

Former Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, holds the belief that assigning the responsibility of resolving Ghana’s economic challenges to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would significantly benefit the country.

In his view, the most suitable leader to address the country’s economic woes is the Vice President.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Citi TV, Atta Akyea dismissed the notion that Dr. Bawumia, as the head of the economic management team, should bear blame for the economic difficulties.

He argued that economic decisions are made by the President, not solely by the Vice President.

Expressing his confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s capabilities, Atta Akyea stated, “This is the first time Ghana is going to have a president who is an economist, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“If the problem of Ghana now and people are talking about its seriousness, I agree to a reasonable extent that the economy is not in its best form. When you have a toothache, do you give it to a carpenter or a dentist? Ghana will be in a safer pair of hands when we bring Dr. Bawumia.”

He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia, as an economist, is well-equipped to handle the economic challenges facing the country and criticized attributing all economic issues to him as “cruel and vile propaganda.”

“Ghana is going to get a man with shock absorbers, the finest gentleman, to help us solve a major problem facing us, the economy. He was in a very serious adversary role, which is what people don’t want to see. It’s cruel and vile propaganda for everybody to say that let’s place all the economic woes of Akufo-Addo on Dr. Bawumia. It’s unkind,” he said.

Bawumia to sponsor one-week vacation for Chef Faila and team

In a heartwarming gesture of kindness, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to sponsor a one-week vacation for Guiness World Record (GWR) cook-a-thon attempt breaker, Faila Abdul Razak, her husband.

This was made known after the chef and her team paid a visit to Vice President Dr. Bawumia at the Jubilee House.

The visit follows the vice president’s generous support during the Tamale Cookathon.

In a show of support for her GWR cook-a-thon attempt, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Saturday, 6 January 2024 paid a visit to Chef Abdul-Razak Failatu in Tamale.

Upon arrival at the Modern City Hotel, Dr. Bawumia entered Chef Faila’s cooking space, engaging in conversation with her.

The chef, evidently awestruck by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, displayed intermittent bows as a gesture of reverence while speaking with him.

“When I say it is possible, it means it is possible for us to be the best. It is possible to beat the best in the world. That mindset is what Ghanaians need. That possibility mindset and what Afua did in the sing-a-thon, showed that it was possible to be the best in the world.

“What Faila is also doing here is showing that it is possible to break the world record and we are here to support her so that she does it and we all going to be very happy when she does it,” he said.

Although the content of their conversation remains undisclosed, Chef Faila’s face lit up with smiles at Dr. Bawumia’s words.

The vice president also donated an amount of GH₵30,000 to the Chef.

Accompanying the Vice President were Northern Regional Minister Shani Alhassan Saibu, former NPP flagbearer aspirant Kwabena Agyapong, and other prominent NPP figures.

Addressing the media, Vice President Bawumia commended Chef Faila and event organizer Afua Asantewaa, stating that their endeavor has not only placed Ghana on the map but also serves as a testament to the possibilities achievable when one sets their mind to a goal.

Step down for your well-being – Atta Akyea to Finance Minister

The Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, is urging Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to contemplate stepping down, emphasizing the potential benefits for both Ofori-Atta and the government as a whole.

The calls for Ofori-Atta’s resignation have been escalating amid the ongoing economic challenges faced by the country.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been particularly vocal in attributing the current fiscal difficulties to the Finance Minister.

In a recent Face to Face interview on January 16, Mr. Atta-Akyea underscored the importance of self-reflection for Ofori-Atta, suggesting that considering his position would be in the best interest of his well-being and that of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Expressing concern over the mounting pressure on Ofori-Atta, Atta-Akyea remarked, “For me, what is very frightening is the fact that you have a whole army of people saying, ‘Look, you’ve had enough.’… I think that could be a way for him to relax. Look at all the burdens on one man. So it is his individual decision to make as to whether he should go or he should continue.”

Atta-Akyea went on to suggest that Ofori-Atta’s resignation might contribute to a more peaceful situation for both the government and the nation, urging him to consider the well-being of himself and the government.

Additionally, Atta-Akyea criticized those blaming Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the country’s economic challenges.

Despite acknowledging that the economy is not in its best form, he described it as ‘unkind’ and ‘cruel’ to attribute economic issues in the Akufo-Addo government to Dr. Bawumia.

Atta-Akyea insisted that the vice president was in a serious adversary role that hindered him from making certain sensitive decisions for the country.

Bawumia will soon make known his vision to all – Nana Akomea

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 presidential candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is poised to unveil his vision in the upcoming weeks, as confirmed by the Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Nana Akomea.

Dr. Bawumia secured his candidacy by obtaining 61.43% of votes from nearly 200,000 NPP delegates during the November 2023 elections.

Since his election, Dr. Bawumia has embarked on various nationwide tours to express gratitude to the party’s delegates and members for their support in choosing him as their leader.

In an interview with Asaase Radio on Tuesday, January 16, Nana Akomea acknowledged that the Vice President cannot distance himself from the government’s shortcomings.

However, he highlighted that Dr. Bawumia possesses his own set of ideas and is preparing to share them with the government in the near future.

“Bawumia will not distance himself from the performance of the economy, I can imagine Bawumia going to stand somewhere to say I am not part, it is a collective responsibility, but the important thing is that he gives us the chance for a different experience.”

“When the campaign starts, Bawumia should be speaking to the nation pretty soon … he hasn’t really spoken to the nation.”

“But I can assure you that very soon, in the next few weeks, he is going to speak to the nation to outline his vision. I can tell you the conversation is going to be more powerful than what we saw with 2015/2016,” he said.

Individuals blaming Bawumia for Ghana’s challenges are cruel – Atta Akyea

The Member of Parliament representing the Akim Abuakwa South constituency, Samuel Atta Akyea, has voiced criticism against those attributing Ghana’s economic challenges to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Acknowledging the economic downturn, Atta Akyea defended Dr. Bawumia, describing the situation as ‘unkind’ and ‘cruel’ to hold the vice president responsible for the issues in the Akufo-Addo government.

Atta Akyea emphasized that Dr. Bawumia, being in a serious adversary role, faced constraints in making sensitive decisions for the country.

Atta Akyea underscored the importance of electing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer in the December polls to bring about positive changes in the country’s fortunes.

He lauded Dr. Bawumia as a distinguished gentleman with ‘shock absorbers’ ready to serve the nation.

“This is the first time Ghana is going to have a president who is an economist, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. If the problem of Ghana now and people are talking about its seriousness, I agree to a reasonable extent that the economy is not in its best form. When you have a toothache, do you give it to a carpenter or a dentist? Ghana will be in a safer pair of hands when we bring Dr. Bawumia.”

Expressing concern about the economic challenges, Atta Akyea drew a parallel, stating, “When you have a toothache, do you give it to a carpenter or a dentist?” He advocated for placing trust in Dr. Bawumia, an economist set to become Ghana’s first president with such credentials.

Addressing the criticism against the vice president, Atta Akyea denounced it as “cruel and vile propaganda” to lay all of Akufo-Addo’s economic burdens on Dr. Bawumia.

During an interview on Face to Face, on Citi TV, Atta Akyea expressed doubt in the opposition National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) ability to manage the government’s educational policy, free Senior High Schools (SHS), citing concerns that they didn’t initiate the program.

In the upcoming presidential election, Vice President Bawumia is vying for the presidency, challenging former President and NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, who seeks re-election.

Carlos Ahenkorah reveals why Dr Bawumia can’t tell people in govt what to do

Member of Parliament for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah, has expressed his perspective on the limited authority of Vice President Dr. Mahamadu in appointing individuals to manage the country’s affairs.

The Tema West MP suggests that Dr. Bawumia, being a technocrat, would have ensured that only qualified individuals are given opportunities to serve in various positions if he had the power to appoint.

However, due to the limitations on his authority, Dr. Bawumia cannot influence appointments and must wait until he becomes president to implement his vision more effectively.

“In my opinion, Dr. Bawumia lacks the opportunity and authority to instruct people on what to do. This is because he holds the position of vice president and not president. If Bawumia had the power to select and appoint individuals to work under him, some people might have already been removed from their positions. However, I can confidently state that even if you fully support Bawumia, if he becomes president, he would not engage in appointing unqualified individuals. Bawumia is a dedicated technocrat who values knowledge. If you possess the necessary qualifications for a specific role, that’s where he would place you,” Carlos Ahenkorah explained in an interview.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) elected the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as its new leader and flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, emerged victorious with 61.43% in the NPP primaries, securing the party’s nomination for the race to the presidency.

Dr. Bawumia’s journey to become the governing party’s flagbearer was not without intense competition and political drama, including a strong challenge from Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, and the fallout from the Super Delegates’ Conference.

ECG unveils plans to combat power theft with AI

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)’s plans to combat power theft by implementing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Remote Sensors across its systems.

Speaking at the launch of the ‘ECG Power’ mobile application, Vice President Bawumia emphasized the challenges ECG faces in collecting payments and preventing power theft.

He stated that the use of AI would be a significant game-changer, and the pilot system is underway, with promising results.

“The issue of solving the collection problem at ECG is a major part of solving the energy issue in Ghana. I think this app also enhances collection, but I am aware- because I have been talking to the Board Chairman and the MD– that they are thinking about applying technology, artificial intelligence and remote sensors in the collection process.

“I know that they are piloting the system now, and by the grace of God if all goes well, we will have implemented a new system, starting this year, whereby nobody will be able to steal electricity in Ghana again. “It is a major thing that the ECG is likely to implement this year, using artificial intelligence and remote sensing. They are piloting it right now, and the results look quite good. Once we solve that problem, the issue of losses from people doing ‘kuluulu’ connections of electricity will be a thing of the past,”Dr Bawumia said.

The ‘ECG Power’ app, designed in-house, aims to facilitate payments and services for ECG’s customer base, expected to increase as smart meters replace old ones.

Users can download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, while non-smartphone users can access the service by dialing *226#. Vice President Bawumia commended ECG for employing technology to address critical functions and enhance revenue mobilization.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to using digital technology for a comprehensive transformation of Ghana’s economy.

NAPO is my only pick – Ken Agyapong affirms for Dr Bawumia’s running mate

Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central , Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has expressed his exclusive support for Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as the only individual he will endorse for the role of running mate to NPP Flagbearer Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the bid to ‘break the 8.’

Addressing delegates of the Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region ahead of the January 27 primaries, where parliamentary candidates will be selected for NPP-held constituencies, Agyapong praised NAPO’s positive rapport with the party’s rank and file.

He emphasized the importance of NAPO’s ability to energize party members and attract victory in the 2024 elections.

“If you go to NAPO’s office, you will be marveled at the way he relates with party people. He takes care of party people. If we had 5 of his kind in the party, NPP would have been better off and far ahead of the NDC. Given the current circumstances where many of our members are despondent, selecting NAPO will be the only way to bring back the needed energy for victory in the 2024 elections,” Mr Agyapong said.

Ken Agyapong added, “If anybody else asks me to campaign for him or her to be selected as running mate, I won’t, except  Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.”

This position aligns with the sentiments of grassroots and party members who believe that the running mate should come from the Ashanti Region.

Political analysts also point to NAPO’s grassroots connection and commendable performance as Minister for Education and Energy, suggesting he could help Dr. Bawumia secure support from floating voters.

Rumors circulate that Dr. Bawumia is preparing to submit his running mate’s name to the NPP National Council for approval after the party’s primaries on January 27, 2024.

Meanwhile, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has filed his nomination for re-election as the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Manyhia South in Kumasi, marking his fifth bid for the position.

In a Facebook post on December 20, he expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of NPP members in the constituency.

  • Efforts to go digital in the absence of employment is a costly joke – Kofi Amoah tells Bawumia

Efforts to go digital in the absence of employment is a costly joke – Kofi Amoah tells Bawumia

Ghanaian entrepreneur and economist, Dr. Kofi Amoah, has voiced his disapproval of the nation’s political leaders, alleging misappropriation of public funds instead of concentrating on fostering an atmosphere conducive to job creation.

He argues that endeavors like the current administration’s emphasis on digitalization would be ineffective without a concurrent focus on job generation.

Dr. Amoah’s remarks were triggered by a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who announced the introduction of a digital solution aimed at eradicating ‘ghost’ names from the government payroll.

Dr. Kofi Amoah asserts that many individuals facing economic hardship are like ‘walking ghosts,’ a consequence of the policies implemented by the current government.

“As much as DIGITALIZATION is presented as a spoke in the wheel of development, it’s an expensive joke,” wrote Citizen Kofi, as he is popularly known, on Friday, January 12.

“It’s crazy to build an expensive payment police system in a bankrupt country where the majority of the people have no payments coming to them because they have no JOBS!,” he posted.

“Thank you,”Ghana”—Cheddar’s response after ‘beating’ Bawumia, Mahama, and Alan in an online poll

Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, has responded to his victory in an online presidential poll where he outperformed major competitors for the 2024 elections.

The poll, conducted by Accra-based EIB Network, inquired about respondents’ preferences among four candidates for the December 7, 2024 elections:

Cheddar, John Dramani Mahama (National Democratic Congress), Mahamudu Bawumia (New Patriotic Party), and Alan Kyerematen (Movement for Change).

After the voting ended, EIB Network released the results as follows:

    Bawumia 12.99%

    Mahama 39.19%

    Cheddar 39.82%

    Alan 8%

Cheddar posted the result with a message that read, “Thank you Ghana. #TheNewForce.”

The 43-year-old recently disclosed that he was the now popular ‘man in the mask,’ whose billboards popped up across the country months ago, and that he is the leader of The New Force Movement.

He has announced a presidential bid on the back of the movement in the 2024 general elections slated for December.

Accountant General must be called to order – Political analyst tells Akufo-Addo, Bawumia

Political analyst Dr. Jonathan Asante Okyere has urged President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to address what he perceives as the Accountant General, Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem’s disregard for the Constitution.

According to Dr. Okyere, Kwaning-Bosompem’s continued presence in office is a violation of both the Constitution and the Code of Conduct governing the Civil Service in Ghana.

Despite serving as the Controller and Accountant General, Kwaning-Bosompem has declared his intention to run in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries for the Akyem Swedru Constituency in the Eastern Region, scheduled for January 27.

Dr. Okyere’s concerns were expressed following confirmation by Prof. Dominic Fobih, the Akyem Swedru Constituency Chairman of the NPP, acknowledging Kwaning-Bosompem as one of three aspirants in the party’s primaries for the constituency.

Responding to queries about a potential breach of the constitution, Prof. Fobih deferred to the courts as the appropriate authority to make such determinations. The Supreme Court has previously ruled that a member of the Civil Service or Local Government Service cannot continue in those roles after being sworn in as a member of a District Assembly.

This situation has raised widespread concerns, as Kwaning-Bosompem remains in his role as Controller and Accountant General while actively participating in political campaigning for the 2024 elections.

Exceptional dedication has brought you this success – Bawumia to 2023 WASSCE graduates

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has celebrated the exceptional performance of Ghanaian Senior High School (SHS) students in the 2023 West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Exams (WASSCE), describing their cumulative results as the best.

He extended commendation to students from various schools, including those from lesser-known institutions, who achieved impressive aggregate scores.

In a Thursday Facebook post, Dr. Bawumia expresses appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the students and their teachers, acknowledging that their outstanding performance is a testament to their commitment.

He emphasized that their achievements have made Ghana proud and extends his best wishes as they face future challenges.

It’s noteworthy that Dr. Bawumia’s message sharply contrasts with former President John Mahama’s perspective during his campaign tour.

Mahama suggested that the students’ success was a result of collusion between teachers and students to cheat.

Intelligence isn’t appreciated by all – Bawumia

Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia has offered words of encouragement to students, particularly the 2023 WASSCE candidates, urging them not to let anyone denigrate their achievements.

Responding to former President John Mahama’s campaign message accusing the government and teachers of allowing students to cheat during exams, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the intelligence and hard work of the students, stating, “Not everyone can appreciate what it takes to be an intelligent student.”

In a Thursday morning Facebook post, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the students’ excellent performances, attributing their success to hard work.

“You have earned the excellent performances by dint of hard work. God bless you,” Dr Bawumia posted.

“Congratulations to all WASSCE students, their teachers as well as their parents for the excellent performance attained by the students in this year’s [2023] WASSCE.”

“This is no doubt the result of hard work and dedication by all of you. You have made Ghana proud and I wish you the very best as you move on to greater challenges,” Dr Bawumia wrote.

He congratulated all WASSCE students, teachers, and parents for the outstanding results and expressed pride in their dedication.

Dr. Bawumia wished the students the very best as they face greater challenges in the future.

Former President Mahama, in response to the 2023 WASSCE results, raised concerns about the lack of textbooks in the education system and criticized the government’s handling of the curriculum.

Despite the data showing the best results in the last five years, Mahama expressed doubt and claimed that invigilators allowed students to cheat in many places during exams.

He warned of potential consequences when students use their certificates abroad, stating that it could affect the nation.

Mahama pledged that if he wins the 2024 election, his government would work with teachers to re-order the system for proper administration.

  • Bawumia should be allowed to freely choose his running

Bawumia should be allowed to freely choose his running

Ace journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr has voiced his concerns regarding the limited autonomy afforded to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the selection of his running mate for the upcoming elections.

Reportedly, over 10 influential figures within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are competing for the position, intensifying lobbying efforts across regional groups, particularly NPP opinion leaders in Greater Accra.

Supporters in the Greater Accra region specifically advocate for the presidential candidate to choose a Ga as the running mate.

However, Kwesi Pratt strongly criticized the emphasis on tribal considerations, asserting that competence should be the primary criterion. He labeled such lobbying practices as “foolishness” and questioned the significance of one’s tribal background, emphasizing the importance of intellectual capacity.

“Why are we indulging in tribalism? Whether the person is Ga or Frafra, what difference does it make? Let’s be serious!!! The main criteria should not be where the person is coming from but their capacity to think,” he exclaimed.

Kwesi Pratt expressed concern that the unnecessary pressure on the Vice President is detrimental to his candidacy for the 2024 general elections.

“This will not help Bawumia…why are you doing this to this man; no presidential candidate since 1992 has been treated this way. It’s as if Bawumia can’t make decisions of his own. Now we’ve got to the level of dictation; stop that,” he fumed.

The veteran journalist disclosed that a similar situation appears to be unfolding within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and called for an end to what he described as “foolishness” gripping all political parties.

Kwesi Pratt made these remarks during a panel discussion on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo.’

  • Bawumia erases ethnicity propaganda, gives NPP a fighting chance to neutralize NDC – Nana Akomea

Bawumia erases ethnicity propaganda, gives NPP a fighting chance to neutralize NDC – Nana Akomea

Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has expressed the view that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy as the NPP’s flagbearer in the upcoming 2024 general elections provides the party with a strategic advantage to compete effectively against the NDC in the northern regions.

According to Akomea, the Vice President’s candidacy serves to dispel the long-held perception that the NPP is an exclusive party catering only to a specific demographic.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, he emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s presence brings diversity and inclusivity to the party’s brand image.

He gives the party a chance to diversify the branding; he gives us the opportunity to have a much more inclusive branding for the party. Over the period we’ve always had leadership from a certain group and this is the first time we’ve gone outside the group so it gives us a more inclusive image,” he said.

Nana Akomea also holds the belief that the candidacy of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is poised to have a significant impact on the electoral prospects of the NDC in the northern regions.

He highlighted that, following Dr. Bawumia’s roles as Vice President and now a presidential candidate, the NPP’s influence in the north has seen considerable growth. This growth has even extended to surpassing the NDC in parliamentary elections, according to Nana Akomea.

“Bawumia erases that propaganda and he gives us a fighting chance to neutralize the NDC in one of their strongholds which is the north. And if you look at the northern region, the NPP is now the majority party in the northern region. When the seats became 31 seats for the 2012 elections, NPP had ten and the NDC had the rest. I think there was one independent out of the 31 seats.

“As we speak today, NPP has 16 seats and NDC has 15. Who would have imagined that the NPP would today be the majority party in the northern region, but we are. And when you look at the presidential vote from 2008, it’s been going up for the number of constituencies the NPP has been winning since 2008 in the north, now we have almost shared it.

“We’ve won in about 14 and the NDC won 17 constituencies so we’re inching up the presidential, for the parliamentary we’ve taken over. And if you look at Bawumia’s home constituency, Walewale, we won it for the first time in 2012 and we’ve still retained it as our seat.

“So he gives us the best opportunity to give the NDC a showdown in some of their strongholds particularly in the north. And we also hope that in the zongos he’ll also give them a showdown. And if he’s able to neutralize the NDC in two of their strongholds that gives us a fighting chance to retain power,” he stated.

Mahama will mess Ghana up if he becomes a president – Carlos Ahenkorah

Member of Parliament for Tema West, Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah, has argued that granting John Dramani Mahama a second term would be detrimental to Ghana’s growth.

He emphasizes that recalling Mahama’s first term, marked by mismanagement, should serve as a reminder that he has nothing new or better to offer.

Mr Ahenkorah asserted, “John Mahama has nothing to lose, and such a person cannot be made president. He has only one term and therefore will not be considerate in his decision-making, among other things. He will mess the country up because he will not be up for any form of election.

Contrastingly, he praises Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, highlighting that Bawumia, having more to prove and lose, would make prudent decisions beneficial for Ghana’s development.

Mr Ahenkorah contends that Bawumia’s awareness of facing another election incentivizes him to prioritize decisions that align with the country’s progress.

Addressing claims of mismanagement by the NPP in the country’s economy, Ahenkorah contends that the economy was thriving until unforeseen crises impacted it. He suggests that Ghana would have been in optimal condition if not for these crises.

Chief Executive Officer of State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has noted that there is significant pressure on Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former President John Mahama concerning the selection of their running mates.

Both Dr. Bawumia and Mahama are presidential candidates for the NPP and NDC, respectively.

Nana Akomea, discussing the intense lobbying for the running mate positions on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo,’ emphasized the importance of allowing the two candidates to make their own choices.

  • NDC govt will revoke Akufo-Addo’s GHC100 emission tax – Asuogyaman MP

NDC govt will revoke Akufo-Addo’s GHC100 emission tax – Asuogyaman MP

The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has announced that the upcoming NDC government, John Mahama, intends to eliminate the GHC100 yearly emission tax introduced by the current Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administration.

Nyarko revealed that despite the minority caucus’s attempt to block the tax, the majority’s numerical advantage allowed its passage.

Addressing commercial motorcyclists in Fintey, Osiabura, and Asikuma after providing free fuel for Christmas, Nyarko criticized the tax as insensitive and obnoxious.

He assured that President Mahama and the NDC would eliminate the GHC100 tax on petrol and diesel engines, including motorbikes.

The MP highlighted the expected positive impact on living standards through the implementation of a 24-hour economy by the next NDC government, scheduled to begin in 2025.

The recently passed Emissions Levy Bill imposes a GHC100 annual fee on petrol and diesel vehicle owners starting January 2024. The aim is to promote eco-friendly energy sources and offset carbon emissions.

The tax faced opposition from the Minority in Parliament, who labeled it a ‘wusie tax’ that could worsen citizens’ economic challenges.

While the government emphasizes climate-positive actions, the move has sparked debates over its potential impact on various sectors, including commercial vehicles, private vehicles, ambulances, ‘okadas,’ and ‘aboboyaas.’

If the bill receives presidential assent, companies will also be required to pay GH₵100 per tonne of carbon dioxide emission.

The tax initiative aligns with broader environmental goals, as evidenced by the government’s decision to apply a zero-VAT rate on imported electric vehicles in the 2024 budget.

Finance Minister Ofori-Atta previously outlined plans to expand the Environmental Excise Duty to cover plastic packaging, industrial emissions, and vehicle emissions, showcasing a comprehensive approach to environmental stewardship.

Despite the abundance of talent, such as singer Asantewaa Aduonum, who is attempting to break the world record for the longest individual singing marathon, the sector’s growth has been hindered by insufficient investment.

During an interview with Citi News at the Akwaaba Village in Accra, where he expressed his support for Aduonum, Dr. Bawumia emphasized, “What is clear to me is that talents exist.

There is a massive amount of talent in the creative arts, but I don’t think we invest sufficiently in the sector.”

“I believe that the returns on the investment could be high for the country because we are looking at job creation, exchange earnings and so on. But I don’t think that we have done sufficient over the years, and we have to pay attention to this sector,” he noted.

The Vice President called on all Ghanaians to rally behind the singer to ensure she breaks the record. He expressed, “What Afua is trying to do is to break a world record and it is not very easy to do. So on a day like this [Christmas day] when everybody is spending time with their families, It could be very lonely and I think that as Ghanaians we should give her all the support and encouragement we can.

Falling prices of cement, rice, iron rods reflect economic success – Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party’s Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has asserted that recent governmental measures have played a crucial role in achieving macroeconomic stability.

Dr. Bawumia pointed out the significant decrease in inflation and the reduction in the prices of goods and services as clear indicators of the government’s commitment to revitalizing the Ghanaian economy.

Speaking at a National Thanksgiving service held at the NPP Headquarters in Accra, Dr. Bawumia expressed optimism about the economic trajectory.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by the post-Covid-19 era globally, Dr. Bawumia underscored Ghana’s resilience amid the economic and social shocks of the pandemic.

He emphasized the need for concerted efforts to alleviate the burdens carried into 2023, praising the progress made with gratitude to God.

“We are already aware that the post-Covid-19 era remains a difficult era in the history of the world and many countries across the globe are still recovering from the economic and social shock the pandemic created, Ghana has been no exception. As a party in power at such a difficult period in our global history, we can only thank God almighty for how far he has brought us.

“We have to work extra hard to lessen the burden that crossed 2023 with us. We started the year with an inflation rate of 56. 3 percent in January. As we speak the rate for November is 26.4 per cent. A significant drop and when you look at inflation, it has come down.

Highlighting specific economic achievements, Dr. Bawumia said,“But what is remarkable is that prices of items that we normally buy are falling, cement prices are falling, fuel prices have fallen, cooking oil prices are falling, iron rod prices, rice prices are falling, maize prices are falling and this is telling us that something is happening because normally we see increases but we are seeing a decline in pricing.”

2024 will see greater economic recovery – Dr Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has outlined the party’s commitment to achieving robust economic recovery in 2024.

Addressing NPP supporters at a Thanksgiving service in Accra on December 22, 2023, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the economic challenges faced by Ghana in 2022 and 2023 and emphasized that the government has devised stringent policies to rejuvenate the economy in the coming year.

In a Twitter post by JoyNews, Dr. Bawumia declared, “We are rolling up our sleeves to get to work. After turning the corner, we are set to move with full speed towards greater recovery in 2024.”

Expressing gratitude to party members for their support in the 2024 general elections, Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of unity within the party.

He urged members to unite as it is the key to overcoming challenges and achieving success, stating, “Indeed, it is only in unity and purpose that we can achieve our goal of winning the general election next year. I am confident that with hard work, unity, and full commitment, it will be possible to break the eight and to continue to solve the problems we face as a country”.

  • Ghana Card, ID to be digitalized in 2024

Ghana Card, ID to be digitalized in 2024

The CEO of Margins ID Group, Moses K. Baiden, has announced Ghana’s upcoming launch of a digital version of the national ID, the Ghana Card, alongside the existing physical card.

The electronic ID profile, akin to the e-passport feature, is already integrated into the card and is slated for activation in the coming year.

When activated, the digital ID will allow users to transfer all Ghana Card information from the card’s chip to the owner’s mobile phone via an app.

A digital replica of the Ghana Card, complete with a bar/QR code for digital verification, will be generated on the phone.

Baiden emphasized the importance of retaining the physical card, citing the prevalence of mobile phones and the lack of infrastructure for widespread digital ID verification.

Despite the ongoing progress, he noted that the country is not ready to entirely discard physical cards in favor of digital ones.

The Ghana Card, often subject to jokes about its payment capabilities, actually features a payment application among its 18 segments.

Baiden highlighted the need for legislation and funds to activate all segments, clarifying that Margins, by law, must pre-finance and prove functionality before government payment.

Margins, as a locally-owned company, has been instrumental in developing Ghana’s ID system.

The Ghana Card’s digital version aims to provide convenience, especially in cases where the physical card is unavailable.

Additionally, the company has saved the state over $1.5 billion, addressing a 50-year-old problem with the reliable issuance of universal national ID cards.

Despite the advancements, human behavior hurdles remain, as some individuals and institutions still require physical appearances for service delivery.

Margins has also developed NFC card-readers for online/offline verification, contributing to the efficiency of Ghana’s ID system.

Baiden believes the Ghana Card is the “master key” for precise and effective development planning, ensuring no citizen or resident is left behind.

Ghana will have a “Zongo First Lady” someday – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has highlighted a potential historic achievement if his Vice President, Mahamadu Bawumia, secures victory in the 2024 presidential elections.

Akufo-Addo pointed out that a Bawumia presidency would result in Ghana having its first Zongo First Lady, referring to the Muslim-dominated inner-city areas scattered across the country.

During a speech in Nima, a suburb of Accra, Akufo-Addo declared, “If, by the grace of God, Mahamadu Bawumia wins the presidency in December 2024, we will have a Zongo First Lady in Ghana.”

The individual in question is the current Second Lady, Samira Bawumia.

In addition to acknowledging the historic significance of Samira Bawumia’s potential rise to the position of First Lady, Akufo-Addo also spoke about his personal connection with Nima during a speech at the coronation of a new paramount chief for Nima, Mohammed Saini Farl, also known as Nii Futa.

The President, who has a private residence in the Nima enclave, emphasized his ties to the area and recounted spending some of his happiest days as a young person in the Muslim-dominated community.

He expressed the importance of the day, which had been designated as Nima Day by the new paramount chief, coinciding with his mother’s birthday on December 17.

“Nii Futa has chosen this day to be henceforth known as Nima Day, it is a very important day in my life because it is the birthday of my mother, the 17th of December, and she was a big maghajia of Nima as you know.

“I grew up here, I came here when I was 12 years old, our father moved us here. I don’t think there is any part of this area that I don’t know, I know this area like the back of my hand. I enjoyed some of the happiest days of my youth right here in Nima.

“So it is important that I be here on such a day because I am one of you, because I, too, I am a Nima boy,” he stated to applause from the gathering,” Akufo-Addo shared.

Bawumia, elected as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer on November 4 for the 2024 polls, will face former President John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections.

Mahama, making his fourth consecutive bid for the presidency, won his first attempt and lost the second and third to Akufo-Addo.

2024 Elections: Vote for Bawumia, he has the best to offer – Kofi Bentil to Ghanaians

A fervent supporter of Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid for the presidency of Ghana, Kofi Bentil, has unequivocally declared that Dr. Bawumia is the most promising and suitable candidate to lead the nation.

Despite acknowledging some dissatisfaction among Ghanaians with the present government under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bentil emphasizes Dr. Bawumia’s exceptional qualities as a presidential contender.

As an active citizen with no political affiliations, Bentil underscores his rationale for endorsing Dr. Bawumia, citing the vice president’s demonstrated integrity and the absence of corruption in his track record.

In comparison to Dr. Bawumia’s primary competitor, John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who has previously held the presidency, Bentil argues that Dr. Bawumia’s lack of prior presidential experience positions him as a fresh and promising choice.

“My activism has a political effect, but I’m not a politician. There’s a difference. I’m an active citizen.

“I chose Bawumia because, someone must run Ghana after Nana Addo and after much thought and consideration I concluded that the best and most promising person who has never been President and has proven not corrupt is better than one who has had the chance. I will respect your choice, I simply ask for the same respect,” he said.

Bentil explains that his advocacy is not driven by political motives but rather by a genuine belief in Dr. Bawumia‘s potential to lead the nation effectively.

He continued: “I understand that people are upset with this government. What I don’t understand is why they don’t realize this government is over,” he said in defence of his open support for Bawumia despite his work as a leader of a civil society organization.

He contended that offering Dr. Bawumia the opportunity to serve as president would allow him to showcase his mettle and competence, contrasting with those who have already held the position.

While acknowledging public discontent with the current government, Bentil remains resolute in his endorsement of Dr. Bawumia’s presidential ambitions.

He defended his stance by asserting that the present government’s term is coming to an end, and Dr. Bawumia represents a compelling choice for the future leadership of Ghana.

Despite leading a civil society organization, Mr Bentil continues to openly support Dr. Bawumia and calls for mutual respect for differing political choices.

God has questions to answer if I see Bawumia, Ofori-Atta in heaven – Sam George

In a recent installment of Starr Chat with Bola Ray, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, sparked controversy by expressing skepticism about Vice President Bawumia and Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta’s chances of making it to Heaven.

With unwavering confidence, he asserted that if he were to encounter Bawumia and Ken Ofori-Atta in heaven, he would boldly question God.

The conversation took an intriguing turn when Sam George was probed to pinpoint the best-performing Minister under the Akufo-Addo government.

“Do you know what Ken Ofori-Atta has done? My parents are pensioners, you see the bible says that some appears in clothes like sheep but they are wolves. People work for 30 to 40 years, their savings the man gave them haircut, he didn’t cut their hair he cut off their head. Ken and his Siamese twin Bawumia have messed up the whole economy. Look I will have questions to ask God if I see them in heaven. If ken Ofori-Atta and Bawumia make it to heaven then that one he has to review the marking scheme,” he added.

To the surprise of many, he chose to abstain from naming any minister, resolutely stating that none of them had left a positive impression on him.

This audacious statement has set ablaze discussions and reactions on social media, with a multitude expressing astonishment at the unequivocal stance taken by the NDC MP.

Furthermore, it has triggered contemplation on the delicate intersection of politics and religious beliefs.

While it’s not uncommon for political figures to air strong opinions about their counterparts, associating such opinions with religious outcomes adds a distinctive layer to the ongoing discourse.

Sam George’s statement has ignited debates regarding the appropriateness of interweaving personal beliefs with political assessments.

  • Mahama deserves credit for digitalization, not Bawumia

Mahama deserves credit for digitalization, not Bawumia

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, disputes giving credit to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the introduction of digitalization in Ghana.

According to Nketia, the roots of digitalization trace back to former President John Mahama, emphasizing Mahama’s role as the Minister for Communication when the clamor for digitalization began.

In an interview on JoyNews’ Personality Profile on December 15, Nketia asserted that the initiative to separate the ministry for post and telecommunication, creating opportunities for expansion in the telecommunication and ICT sector, happened under Mahama’s leadership. He referred to Mahama as the “grandfather of this whole digitalization,” highlighting Mahama’s investments in laying ICT infrastructure.

“These two portfolios were separated because there was an opportunity for expansion in the telecommunication and the ICT sector. So John Dramani Mahama was actually the grandfather of this whole digitalisation – go and check the records and his investments in laying the infrastructure for ICT in this country,” he said.

Nketia emphasized the continuity of governance traditions, acknowledging the utilization of infrastructures by succeeding governments.

However, he criticized Bawumia’s claim to ownership of digitalization in Ghana, asserting that Mahama, as the infrastructure creator, deserves credit.

Nketia clarified that true digitalization occurs when one person establishes the infrastructure, and another person utilizes it for a specific purpose. He argued that if Mahama, the infrastructure creator, is not in a position to utilize it, Bawumia should not claim ownership when building upon it.

Nketia questioned Bawumia’s expertise in ICT and digitalization, asserting that Bawumia was brought into the economic fold not for his expertise in these areas but for his role in managing the economy.

Mr Nketia alleged that Bawumia’s economic role under President Kufuor was responsible for the economic successes of that time.

However, Mr Nketia claimed that since Bawumia’s assumption of the role, the economy has deteriorated.

He criticized Bawumia’s handling of the E-levy, stating that Bawumia is now distancing himself from the policy, which was initially presented as a solution for generating funds to pay contractors and arrears.

“Tap and Go” taxi app launched in Accra by GPRTU

A new digital taxi service named Tap and Go has been introduced in Accra by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President.

This app, designed to function similarly to established taxi services like Uber and Bolt, is currently undergoing a pilot phase in select areas of Accra before a nationwide rollout in the coming year.

During the launch on Thursday, December 14, 2023, Nana Nimako Bresiamah, the National Chairman of the GPRTU, expressed gratitude to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his involvement in addressing the concerns of Ghanaian taxi drivers.

The app’s introduction is seen as a timely intervention to protect local businesses that were facing challenges from foreign online taxi services.

According to Bresiamah, the GPRTU had raised concerns about the impact of foreign taxi apps on their business during a meeting with Vice President Bawumia.

The Vice President, in response, assured them of finding a solution, leading to the development and launch of the Tap and Go app.

Bresiamah urged GPRTU members to use the app responsibly, providing quality service to Ghanaians and maintaining the integrity of the union.

Several taxi drivers at the launch expressed satisfaction with the initiative, thanking Vice President Bawumia for supporting them and revitalizing their business.

John Kofi Tawiah, a taxi driver, acknowledged the positive impact of the app, stating that it would prevent unnecessary fuel wastage and benefit drivers by eliminating the need to search for passengers.

George Nii Ayi Tagoe, operating near the University of Ghana, Legon Campus, emphasized the favorable competition the app would bring.

Samuel Amoah, Deputy PRO of GPRTU, expressed gratitude to both GPRTU leadership and Vice President Bawumia for their responsiveness to the concerns of taxi drivers and their efforts in implementing the Tap and Go app.

During his visit to the crisis-affected Upper East Regional town on Tuesday morning, Dr. Bawumia paid a courtesy call to the Bawku Na Ba at his Palace.

There, extensive discussions took place between Dr. Bawumia, the Bawku Na Ba, and elders, focusing on the urgent need for peace to be restored in Bawku and its surrounding areas.

Addressing the visit, the Bawku Na Ba voiced his concerns about the ongoing conflict, emphasizing the unfortunate loss of lives and property over the past two years.

He lamented the extension of the conflict into parts of the North East Region, leading to attacks on people and buses.

‘Your Excellency, as you are aware, over the last two years, Bawku and neighbouring towns have been engulfed in an unfortunate conflict that has resulted in the loss of many lives and property. Sadly, the conflict has even extended to parts of the North East Region, where people and buses have been attacked,” the Bawkunaba bemoaned.

Recognizing the need for an energetic campaign, Bukari emphasized that victory in the 2024 elections requires dedicated efforts from all levels of the party.

Akufo-Addo’s mismanagement posing threat to NPP’s stability– KNUST lecturer

Political Science lecturer Dr. Kwasi Amakye Boateng from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has raised concerns about the leadership of President Akufo-Addo and its potential impact on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) chances in the upcoming 2024 elections.

In an interview on Akoma FM on December 7, 2023, Dr. Amakye Boateng argued that President Akufo-Addo’s leadership has not only tarnished the country’s image but has also strained unity within the NPP, creating unease among its members who fear a shift to the opposition.

“The truth is the NPP people are not at ease because the primary goal of a political party is to remain in power…NPP is the ruling party, but they can see that they are heading to opposition,” he stated.

Dr. Amakye Boateng pointed to the government’s handling of the galamsey issue as a major concern, suggesting that the NPP’s inability to effectively address the problem could impact voter sentiment and diminish their chances in the upcoming elections.

“Very soon, there will be an election to elect a new set of leaders, and I am saying that galamsey is pushing the NPP back into opposition. Galamsey is the major issue. The chances of the NPP are very slim, and one thing that can help them is their choice of a running mate.

“I am saying this because Dr. Bawumia is also tainted; the Nana Addo factor has negatively affected Dr. Bawumia, so we don’t see Dr. Bawumia as his own man.

“The Komfo Anokye crisis is also fighting against the NPP because they didn’t do anything about it until Otumfuo intervened. So, you see how Nana Addo’s leadership has been a mess, one for the country and two for the party. Nana Addo has almost succeeded in breaking the party up,” he added.

Ghana Card erasing corruption in Ghana – Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing challenges in the informal economy through the implementation of the Ghana Card, a crucial element of the digitalization agenda.

Speaking at the 20th edition of the Ghana Club 100 Awards on Saturday, December 9, the NPP flagbearer highlighted the adverse effects of the informal economy, including issues like age cheating, identity fraud, and the proliferation of counterfeit documents such as insurance, birth certificates, and passports.

Dr. Bawumia stressed the significance of transitioning from an informal economy to a more disciplined and transparent system, pointing out the problems associated with informality, such as corruption, lawlessness, tax evasion, and an unbanked society.

To tackle these challenges and unlock the transformative potential of the economy, the Vice President noted that the government initiated a formalization process, with the digitalization initiative playing a crucial role and the Ghana Card serving as its anchor.

He emphasized that by digitizing government services through Ghana.gov.gh and other initiatives, the government aims to enhance transparency, clarity, and efficiency in the system.

Dr. Bawumia stated that these measures contribute to reducing corruption, as services can be accessed without the need for bribes. He highlighted the inherited issues of the informal economy, including corruption, lawlessness, tax evasion, and identity fraud, which made it challenging for the economy to reach its full potential.

The government’s focus on formalization and digitalization aims to create a transparent and disciplined economic system.

“You look at an economy in the informal sense which turned to be undisciplined, the society is undisciplined because the economy is informal and there are no consequences for bad actions, you have a society where corruption prevails, you have lawlessness, you have a tax dodging society, you have an unbanked society, you have a loan repayment dodging society, identity fraud, people assuming identities of others, lack of address systems, age cheating, fake insurance, fake birth certificates, fake passports, no functional address systems, ghost workers on government payrolls.”

“These ills of the informal economy that we really inherited made it very difficult for the economy to transform to its potential. That is why we set out to formalize the economy to make sure that the economy works in a transparent system. In that area of formalisation of the economy we realized heavily on digitalization of the economy to formalize the economy.”

NDC is facing imminent extinction in North East Region because of Bawumia – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the North East Region has suggested that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is facing potential extinction following the election of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer.

According to the NPP, the NDC in the region is rapidly losing its influence as members are reportedly leaving the NDC in large numbers to join the NPP.

During a press conference in Nalerigu on Sunday, addressed by the North East Regional Communications Director, Amos Walibe, the NPP urged the NDC to refrain from attacking Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia if they wish to preserve their party’s presence in the region.

“…Which is that, it was an attempt at halting the speedy dwindling fortunes of the NDC in the Northeast region. It has become abundantly clear that the NDC in the North East Region is facing an imminent extinction following the election of the Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer of the NPP,” he said.

The press conference was called in response to what the NPP characterized as lies told by the NDC during their previous press conference, where they accused Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of neglecting his kinsmen. The NPP demanded that the NDC issue an unqualified apology for their allegations.

Faced with this stark reality, according to Amos, the leadership of the NDC in the region “hurriedly organized that shambolic press conference seeking to give hope to the few remaining NDC members in the region so that they do not also follow suit. If not, why will the NDC be calling the Vice President a failure as if he is the President?

The NPP asserted that, unlike Vice President Dr. Bawumia, who played a role in the creation of a new region, former President Mahama failed twice to fulfill similar requests from the people of Gonjaland during his term in office.

“It is on record that the good people of the Gonjaland longed for a region long before H.E John Dramani Mahama came into the political limelight. So, it was all joy when H.E John Dramani Mahama was picked in 2008 as the running mate to then-candidate Professor Atta Mills.

“And Mr Mahama assured his people that he would ensure that they got the region they were yearning for if they voted for Professor Mills to win the 2008 elections. He failed to deliver on his promise after four years in office as Vice President and another two years as President, respectfully.”

The NPP rejected the NDC’s assertion that the government had not initiated any significant capital investment projects in the region. The Communication Director, during the press conference, strongly emphasized that the NPP consistently outperformed the NDC in the region.

Addressing concerns about incomplete projects, including the Walewale Watermelon Juice Processing Company, the Communications Officer assured that the government was dedicated to completing all initiated projects in the region. T

Lord’s Blessing lies in people’s voice – Kwabena Agyapong on Bawumia’s flagbearership

In an uncommon glimpse into the past, a photo captures Ghana’s inaugural president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, casually strolling alongside a German Shepherd dog.

While the precise date of the image remains uncertain, it is plausible that it was taken at President Nkrumah’s residence, depicting him affectionately patting the dog on its back.

Former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, a recent contestant in the party’s presidential primaries, emphasizes the crucial need for all party members, especially those involved in recent primaries, to unite behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for success in the upcoming elections.

Speaking in Kumasi during Dr. Bawumia’s visit to express gratitude to Ashanti Region party members, Agyapong characterizes the internal contest as a democratic process and urges all party supporters to stand behind Dr. Mahamudu.

“Our tradition is a very big tradition and we believe in democracy and intra-party contests,” said the former General Secretary

“The election was a process to choose the flagbearer of our party. And fortunately, God has blessed us with a flagbearer so let us all come together and push him to win for the party.”

“We are done with the elections and Dr. Bawumia is now the property and project of the party and all of us must come together and rally behind him for victory in 2024,” he urged.

    Historic win

The NPP’s history is clearly well-versed in Kwabena Agyapong, who declared that Dr. Bawumia’s victory was historic due to the fact that no one has ever won by such a wide margin in the party’s history during Bawumia’s initial run for leadership since 1992.

“Nobody in our tradition; from Professor Adu Boahene in 1992, to J.A. Kufuor to Nana Akufo-Addo, has won by 61% in their first attempt to lead the party. His victory is significant because it is big and the voice of the people is where the Lord’s blessing is,” said Kwabena Agyapong

The former General Secretary also called for a “spirit of sacrifice” among all executives, right from the grassroots.

“The party can only be stronger when you are stronger. And our flagbearer Dr. Bawumia can only be stronger if we all work hard and rally behind him.”

“You are the front-line soldiers of our party, you are the main people to ensure victory. Your main job is that you are executives first, right from the polling station level so I want you all to come together.”

General Secretary Justin Kodua and NPP National Chairman Stephen Ntim accompanied Dr. Bawumia.

Three candidates for the NPP flagbearership, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Addai Nimo, and Kojo Poku, were also present.

Ghana Card cannot be used to buy cars – Bawumia refutes reports

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has clarified his previous comment about the role of the Ghana Card and the acquisition of an automobile.

Speaking at the 57th congregation ceremony of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Bawumia revealed that discussions are underway with some local automobile companies to roll out a loan scheme with the Ghana card.

It was later reported that the Vice President announced that the Ghana card could be used to purchase vehicles.

While addressing an audience at the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) awards ceremony on December 8, Dr Bawumia emphasized that he did not suggest a direct link between the Ghana Card and purchasing a car outright.

“One of the issues facing Ghana is the deficiency of an efficient credit system in comparison to other developed nations. In Ghana, your monthly subsistence is your income. In other jurisdictions, the credit system essentially increases your consumption possibilities.”

“I was saying that one of the things that we don’t have in Ghana right now is a system for credit score that the referencing agency would typically use. Of course, what I said was taken out of context, and others even refuted it, claiming Ghana does not have a credit system that customized for each individual,” the Vice President said.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for simplified and efficient services, emphasizing the Ghana Card’s diverse applications in daily life.

Ghana card can help you secure loans for a car, but not buy you a car – Bawumia

He continued: “But now with the cooperation with the central bank, we are very close to introducing an individualized credit scoring system in Ghana next year which allow us to differentiate risk from individuals and that was the sense which I said that an individualized scoring system will have the Ghana card as that anchor because it is a unique identifier for everybody and that will allow credit to be more accessible to all of these companies here who will then be able to offer credit to many consumers”
