Clash between tipper drivers and assembly taskforce in Gomoa East leaves 2 injured”

A violent confrontation between tipper drivers and an assembly taskforce in Gomoa Ojobi, Central Region, resulted in two individuals sustaining injuries. The clash was sparked by disagreements over the payment of a quarry development fund.

The quarry development fund was introduced in 2021 with the objective of using the money to develop communities where these quarries operate. Tipper drivers were mandated to pay between GH¢80 and GH¢100 per trip to the task force for onward payment to the assembly coffers.

However, the Protoa tipper truck drivers from Kasoa rejected the move and failed to pay the said amount to the assembly during their collection yesterday. The taskforce came this morning to collect the monies, resulting in a bloody clash that left two people injured.

According to Benjamin Ankomah, leader of the Protoa Tipper Drivers Association, the drivers were not aware of the new amounts.

“The taskforce came in this morning and engaged our members in a fight over payments of the quarry development fund. They forced our members to pay an amount of GH¢8 to GH¢100 per trip. But the agreement we had with them was to pay GH¢15. Our members have been brutalised by the taskforce. We have taken some to the Awutu Bereku health centre,” Ankomah said.

District Chief Executive for Gomoa East Solomon Darko Quarm told Citi News that the levy has been sanctioned by the assembly but denied the allegations that the taskforce from the assembly physically assaulted the drivers.

“It is not true that our revenue task force assaulted the Tipper Drivers. It was the drivers who attacked our men instead. What money the task force is collecting has been sanctioned by the Assembly. A driver of the task force was severely injured and has been rushed to the hospital. The collectors are operating within the mandate given to them,” the DCE said.

He explained that the issues transcended partisan affiliations and required a united approach from all political parties.

“… The committee will thoroughly investigate the underlying administrative and traditional boundary issues to resolve the dispute between the chiefs and people of the two areas.

“As political leaders, we hold the responsibility of preserving the cultural heritage and security of our communities to attract investment to the enclave,” Mr Afenyo-Markin said.

Assin North by-election: A list of things Charles Opoku gave to constituents

Defeated candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Assin North by-election, Charles Opoku, has recently come under scrutiny for his alleged attempts to buy votes during the election.

Per reports, Mr Opoku allegedly distributed money and various items including; different types of fabrics, cement, roofing sheets, and farm tools to constituents in a bid to secure their support.

Despite his efforts, James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Candidate (NDC) emerged victorious, securing 57.56% of the total votes cast, with a significant total of 17,245 votes.

The by-election in the Assin North constituency of the Central Region took place on June 27, 2023, following a high court ruling that nullified the 2020 parliamentary election in the area.

The court ruled that Mr. Quayson’s possession of both Canadian and Ghanaian citizenship rendered him ineligible to contest the seat.

Despite the nullification, Mr. Quayson continued to hold himself as the MP for Assin North, leading the petitioner, Michael Ankomah Nimfah, to take the case to the Supreme Court for an interpretation of Article 94 (2) (a).

On May 17, 2023, the Supreme Court emphasized that allowing Mr. Quayson to remain in office would undermine the administration of justice. As a result, the court directed Parliament to expunge his name from its records as the Assin North MP.

  • Food Safety Month launched

    Food Safety Month launched

This year’s Food Safety Month has been launched with a plea for people to adhere to food safety guidelines like often washing their hands, separating raw food from uncooked food, and thoroughly boiling their meals.

Other measures include keeping food at safe temperatures and the use of safe water and raw materials for cooking.

The Registrar of the Veterinary Council of Ghana, Dr Kingsley Mickey Aryee, who launched the programme on behalf of the intersectoral Food Safety Coordinating Committee, made the call at the event in Accra yesterday.

He said the month-long celebration on the theme: “Food standards save lives”, was important because standards were required in determining the safety of food to save lives.

Dr Aryee explained that food safety hazards seeped through and stretched across grass-roots, regional, national and international levels, while food safety involved protection of food from microbial, chemical and physical hazards that might occur during various stages of food production to consumption.

He, therefore, stressed the need for the strict consideration of standards to, among others, minimise food borne illnesses, anti-microbial resistance, food insecurity and poverty.

    About event

The event, which is observed in the month of June with activities, would be commemorated on June 7, 2023.

In line with that, the intersectoral food safety coordinating committee, which comprises representatives of various government agencies and other stakeholders in the food value chain, has earmarked some activities to celebrate the month.

The activities include a quiz for second cycle schools in the Central Region, sensitisation programmes on food safety for schools, a webinar, food hygiene competition, trade fair and stakeholder engagements.

The national food safety laboratory of the Veterinary Services and the Food and Drugs Authority are the leading agencies organising the celebration with support from development partners and other stakeholders of food safety.

    Importance of food

Dr Aryee said food was essential for the sustenance and continuity of life, be it humans, animals, plants or microorganisms, for which reason every living organism needed food to survive.

He, therefore, said that food safety must be the concern of all since unhealthy foods could be a global public health threat.

Quoting from the World Health Organisation to buttress his point, Dr Aryee said: “Food borne diseases caused 420, 000 deaths globally and 137, 000 deaths in Africa with children accounting for one-third of deaths.”

He, therefore, appealed to the media to continuously sensitise the public to food safety because “it is everyone’s business”.

Dr Aryee expressed appreciation to all partners for their support for the launch and preparations towards the commemoration of the day.

“One thing we are advocating for is the dualization of the road. We tend to have lots of head-on -collisions, so that will be an engineering issue there(Gomoa Okyereko). For head-on-collisions we need to dualize the roads so that we’ll be able to minimize collisions at where we’re having the head-on-collisions.”

The National Road Safety Authority and the Ghana Police Service have identified Gomoa Okyereko as one of the most accident prone areas on the Accra to Cape Coast Highway and have advised drivers to be extra careful on that stretch of the road.

  • Decline in cocoa production alarming – Duffuor

Decline in cocoa production alarming – Duffuor

Aspirant flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, has stated that the large reduction in Ghana’s cocoa production is concerning, given that the commodity represents the foundation of the economy.

Ghana achieved a historic feat of more than 1.14 million tons of cocoa production, about 45% increase in the 2020/2021 crop season.

However, dropped significantly in the 2021/2022 crop season though COCOBOD was yet to provide official figures.

The International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) recent report said cocoa production during 2021/2022 dropped in the two world leading cocoa countries – Cote D’Ivoire (-6%) and Ghana (-34%) owing to multiple factors including devastating effect of swollen shoot disease and climate change.

Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has forecasting about 750,000 tons of cocoa production in the 2022/2023 crop season higher than the 2021/2022 production.

According to Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, his sources indicate Ghana may not meet this target for the season.

He said current happenings in the cocoa sector will ultimately affect the economy and cocoa farmers.

“Our leaders have failed us. What I am hearing is that Ghana may not be able to get 500,000 metric tons of cocoa this year. In 2010/2011, we had one million metric tons. We decided to sustain the gains and increase it so we become number one producer of cocoa in the world. We came up with a policy to distribute 20 million free cocoa seedlings to farmers annually. It was captured in the 2011 budget and we started implementing it. So hearing that we may not get 500,000 metric tons saddens me. It means cocoa farmers are going to suffer”.

Dr. Duffuor stated that “NDC is going to win the election at all cost and when we assume power, we will resume the distribution of 20 million free cocoa seedlings annually so we beat Ivory Coast to occupy the top spot as world largest producer of cocoa. We can’t let the cocoa industry collapse. It is the backbone of the economy”.

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor said this when addressing delegates of the NDC in Akim Manso in Asene Manso Akroso constituency in the Eastern region as part of his 4-day campaign tour.

At Upper West Akyem Constituency, Dr. Duffuor assured Cocoa farmers in the area that the next NDC government will help bring to life an abandoned 48-million-dollar Jute Factory at Adeiso.

The factory established by an Indian group call Ganges in partnership with government in 2008 sits on a 12-acre size land at the Upper West Akyem District.

When completed would be the largest jute factory in Africa with a monthly capacity of 600,000 sacks. This would have reduced Ghana’s $215million annual spending on importation of jute sacks to about $70 million.

Again, the factory was expected to provide job opportunities for 2,000 people.

Successive governments after President Kuffuor made efforts to ensure the project is completed for operationalization of the factory, however, the Akufo-Addo led government has failed to pay attention to the final stage of completion leaving the fledging factory to rot in the bush.

Chiefs, cocoa farmers and youth in the area continue to demand state attention to the factory but to no avail.

  • $3 NPP donation: Ken Agyapong ‘fights’ Kwabena Agyapong over liar tag

$3 NPP donation: Ken Agyapong ‘fights’ Kwabena Agyapong over liar tag

Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has criticized Kwabena Agyapong for accusing him of fabricating an information regarding a contribution he (Ken) made to the party.

Kwabena Agyapong, a former deputy general secretary of the NPP, is reported to have said in an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM that Ken Agyapong lied when he stated that he repaid a $3 million loan contracted by the party in 1991.

According to Kwabena Agyapong, Ken Agyapong’s claim cannot be true because the NPP did not exist in 1991.

“I will not boast about my wealth, as others do, claiming they gave $3 million to the party in 1991. In 1991, was NPP in existence? NPP was established in 1992. Under military rule, obtaining $3 million from a bank is impossible,” the former NPP general secretary said.

Reacting to this while addressing delegates of the NPP in the Central Region, Ken Agyapong accused Kwabena Agyapong of being mischievous because he (Ken) never said the loan was contracted in 1991.

Ken, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, added that the former NPP general secretary could not have been privy to the said payment because he was a ‘nobody’ in the party by then.

“I said in 1992 when Adu Boahen was elected flagbearer of the NPP myself and Oppong Bio went to CalBank to borrow $3 million to support the party, you can ask Fred Oware if I am lying.

“Kwabena Agyepong at the time supported Dr Safo Adu, he didn’t support Prof Adu Boahen. Dr Konadu Apraku, lawyer Kwadwo Afram Asiedu and I, we walked straight to the bedroom of Adu Boahen, Kwabena Agyapong couldn’t do that because he didn’t support the man.

“He has done his part for the NPP but he should also give us credit. When he even had an accident some of us including Gifty Kleman, Ursula Owusu and Grudle went round campaigning for him to be elected general secretary. At that time, the authorities were against him. But he couldn’t give us credit for supporting him, such things are not good for the party,” he said.

Tidal waves displaces 100 residents at Moree

Following a tidal wave that hit several portions of the Moree community in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) region of the Central Region, some 100 people have been forced to flee their homes.

The surging wave destroyed about 15 structures located close to the sea.

Some of the affected residents are currently being accommodated by friends and relatives while others had taken shelter in some sheds located in the area.

The President-General of Centre of Awareness Global Peace Mission (COA-GPM), ProfessorAto Duncan together with the Regent of Moree over the weekend visited the area.

The visit was to ascertain the situation and also look at the immediate measures to be taken to alleviate the plight of affected residents.

In an interaction with the media after the visit to the area, Prof. Duncan, appealed for immediate intervention to reduce the rate of destruction by the tidal wave.

He noted that the government had a good intention for the community and made reference to the construction of a mini habour and a landing site in the area.

“I don’t think the government has totally neglected them so we need to bring the concern of the people to the government,” he said.

He indicated, it may not be the intention of government to neglect the area.

He stated that, the displacement of people due to the tidal wave was a threat to peace, adding, the COA-GPM seeks to address issues confronting peace in the world and displacement of people is a threat to peace.

Prof. Duncan further appealed to the government to consider the construction of a sea defence wall to prevent the area from being submerged by the sea.

“I felt very sad and decided to move in to ascertain the nature of damage. This is the time we have to convey the message for immediate intervention,” he stated.

He said the sea was now drifting into the community and that it was about time for something to be done to resolve it adding that “this is a huge task, no individual can take it upon to address it.”

The community, he said, was actually in danger and therefore called for intervention in addressing the challenge.

For his part, the Regent of Moree, Nana ObokeseAmpah, explained that, some of the affected residents were now sleeping under sheds.

He appealed to the government to pay attention to the plight of the affected residents since they feel neglected.

He indicated that the havoc associated with the tidal wave had been happening for some time now but response had not come from the authorities.

Moree, he said, was a great historical and traditional town that ought to be preserved and protected.

Some of the affected residents appealed for support from stakeholders.

NAPO assists ECG in collecting its debts

The Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has said that he fully endorses the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) efforts to recover every pesewa owing to the firm.

According to him it is important the company remains viable to deliver efficient service to consumers.

Dr. Prempeh made these assertions when he led the ECG’s revenue protection task force to two companies that owed the company various sums of money.

The Minister during these two engagements bemoaned the situation where companies pile up bills for a very long time and refuse to pay.

“As a country, we cannot continue to countenance the attitude of non-payment of bills, among other illegalities and expect optimal service delivery,” he said.

He continued “The financial capacity of the generator, transmitter and distributor is very much anchored on prompt payment of bills, especially as we work to clamp down on all forms of losses and intra-sector debts.”

“These 3 segments of the power value-chai are symbiotically dependent on each other, and therefore we must work together to clamp down on all forms of losses”.

The Minister said, there is no excuse whatsoever for the non-payment of electricity bills and drew an analogy where one cannot negotiate with OMCs to get fuel into his or her car.

“When you need fuel, you cannot but pay to get it, why can’t you do same for the electricity you consume,” he quizzed

The Minister who is also the Manhyia South MP further said that the unbearable cost of fuel for generators incurred by Ghanaians during the ‘Dumsor’ era between 2013 and 2016 is indicative of the luxury of power supply currently, and therefore urged consumers to pay promptly for the value chain to function effectively.

The ECG taskforce continues to mount operations to retrieve all debts owed by the company.

The New Patriotic Party‘s (NPP) 1st Vice-Chairman for the Central Region’s Mfantseman Constituency, Gabriel Amoah, has stepped down.

The 44-year-old entrepreneur told the Ghana News Agency he tendered in his resignation letter on Friday, March 31, and was received by Mr Evans Osei, the Constituency Secretary and copied to all appropriate quarters.

Though he could not deny or confirm his widely speculated intention to contest the Parliamentary slot, he was optimistic about working hard with the constituency leadership to stretch the NPP’s political fortunes in the 2024 election.

Having served the party with dedication and commitment across the ranks, Mr. Amoah said it behoved on him to go all out to mobilise the grassroots to make the constituency a stronghold of the NPP.

Elated with his resignation, he said: “After a painstaking effort and a wide consultation and deliberations across the party, I have decided to resign to work assiduously to maintain the political gains of the party in the constituency.

“I want to use this platform to remind all that energizing the base of the party is key and fundamental to the victory of the NPP in the 2024 elections.”

To him, Mfantseman is the heartbeat of the NPP and political activism in Ghana hence, he was prepared to sacrifice his resources not only to save the party in the area but make the party more attractive.

Considering the interesting history of parliamentary candidates of NPP in the Constituency, Mr. Amoah called on the supporters of the party to embark on a massive grassroots mobilization campaign to get more people on board.

That, he said, was the surest way to ensure a resounding victory for the party in the 2024 elections.

For the youth, he said: “As the youth of the NPP, we may have a tougher responsibility, but breaking the eight is a must-do for us. We must convince Ghanaians that changing a productive regime merely because it has lasted for eight years is not healthy for a country that seeks progress.

“We must prove beyond any reasonable doubt to Ghanaians why the party must not go after its two-term regime cycle. Beyond singing the chorus of ‘Breaking the Eight’, we must critically engage our minds forthwith,” he added.

Contrary to popular belief, northerners are not violent – Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong, a member of parliament for Assin Central district in the Central region has spoken out against the notion that people from the north are violent.

Kennedy Agyapong who claims to have family ties to that part if the country stated that northerners are simply quick to defend themselves and their rights when they are being cheated or taken advantage of. Hence, the stereotype that they are violent is untrue.

In a video shared by Oman Channel on April 7, 2023, and sighted by GhanaWeb, the NPP flagbearer hopeful while speaking to members of the party in the Ayawaso East Constituency of the Greater Accra region, explained that because bortherners are quick to defend themselves, they are often labeled as violent. However, he stressed that this is not an accurate characterization of the people from the northern region of Ghana.

“…and the truth is, for my household, I celebrate both Salah and Christmas, in fact, my grandmother was a Muslim before she married. So, she was ‘Asante kremo’ but all my grandfathers are Muslims, I have Seidu, Abass, Siaka, and Yakubu, and all of these people are in my family who are Muslims.

“They settled more at Ajumako Anyan Asiam, whereby one of them married a Muslim there, so, all my family people are full of Muslims, except a few of us whose grandparents married Christians.

“You don’t know where I got my braveness from, my father used to teach at Wa, so I was always fighting and there was a certain day when I went to beat a certain lady. So, my mother was crying lamenting about what a man gave her during her pregnancy to mix with her meals and eat.

“So, I asked her about what she was lamenting about? and she replied that a certain man used to give her some powder to mix with her porridge and drink so that her son will become strong after delivery.

He added “So, for me, I am a ‘Wawula’ person, I come from Wa, and that is where the braveness comes from. That is why whenever I see the Northerners, I become happy because we all have the same character, we all hate nonsense … if you want to cheat us and we don’t give room for such things then you conclude we are not good.

“Do you understand? I know you don’t like cheating, so when it happens then you just say your mind, then they will conclude that they are violent people. So, I should sit down for you to cheat on me and go scot-free, no, is not possible. So, for me, I am one of you,” he said.

The race for the NPP flagbearership slot has top party members including Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; former trade and industry minister, Alan Kyerematen; former food and agric minister, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto; former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong among others.

November 4, 2023, has been slated as the date for the NPP presidential primaries to elect a flagbearer for the general elections in 2024.

  • Be a president who accepts responsibility just like I did – Mahama tells Akufo-Addo

Be a president who accepts responsibility just like I did – Mahama tells Akufo-Addo

A National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for 2024, John Mahama, has characterized the Akufo-Addo-led administration as a government that shirks accountability.

According to him, accepting responsibility is a mark of good leadership, a quality that is lacking in President Akufo-Addo.

“What is making it difficult for them to govern is that they are not people who listen to advice. They never accept their mistakes, so they are not able to learn from their mistakes. Notwithstanding the poor state of Ghana’s economy, still they are not accepting responsibility.“Nothing can be fixed if the leader cannot take responsibility,” he insisted.

Speaking to branch and constituency executives of the NDC in the Awutu Senya East and West Constituencies on Tuesday, Mr. Mahama who is campaigning to lead his party to the 2024 presidential election said: “When you listen to them, they say it is not their fault. Are they saying it is the fault of Ghanaians? Who went for all those loans? It was them. Yet whenever you tune in to the news, they say it was Covid-19 that caused our problems. They say it was Russian-Ukraine that caused them.”

He expressed surprise that the President did not follow his example but continues to refuse to accept responsibility for the woeful state of the nation.

“When President went to parliament to deliver the State of the Nation Address, I thought he would accept responsibility the way I did when we had an energy crisis in this country. I did not cause it; it was caused by lack of addition to our (power) generation for many years. So, it got to a time, our demand had exceeded our ability to generate power” he explained.

“I went to Parliament. I did not say I did not cause it. I said you elected me to take responsibility, so I take responsibility for it, and I will fix it. That is what leadership is about. This is a President who cannot take responsibility and if you can’t take responsibility, you can’t fix anything” he said to wild cheers.

President Mahama is on a three-day ‘Building the Ghana we want together’ campaign tour of the twenty-three constituencies in the Central Region.

Anas is worse than the devil – Nyantakyi

Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), reacted to the dismissal of Anas Aremeyaw Anas‘ defamation lawsuit against Kennedy Agyapong.

In 2018, Anas filed a GH¢25 million defamation lawsuit against Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region, but the court ruled on March 15 that the claim is without merit.

In a lengthy ruling, Justice Eric Baah held that the plaintiff [Anas Aremeyaw Anas] failed to prove that Kennedy Agyapong defamed the investigative journalist by airing the documentary – “Who watches the watchman.”

Speaking on Accra-based Oman FM earlier today, Mr. Nyantakyi said “the High Court’s decision testifies to the truth that Anas Aremeyaw Anas is not honest but as described by the court, he is a blackmailer and an extortionist.”

“The judge also described his job as an investigative terrorist instead of an investigative journalist. He has been totally disgraced. He once portrayed himself as an angel, but today I’m not even sure he is at the devil’s level yet.”

In June 2018, the former member of Fifa’s executive council was filmed taking $65,000 in cash from an undercover reporter in a film captured by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas which was aired by BBC Africa’s investigations unit, Africa Eye.

Nyantakyi was pictured placing the “shopping money” into a black plastic bag from an undercover reporter pretending to be a businessman keen to invest in Ghanaian football.

He later agreed to what he believed to be a sponsorship deal for the Ghana FA, which he had presided over since 2005. The bogus deal, invented by the reporters, would have enabled millions of dollars in commission to be paid to a company controlled by him.

This cost him his positions as FIFA Council Member and 1st Vice President of CAF.

The mother has appealed to the Inspector General of police to intervene and prosecute the husband to serve as a deterrent to others.

  • Anas loses GHC25 million defamation suit against Ken Agyapong

Anas loses GHC25 million defamation suit against Ken Agyapong

The GHC25 million defamation lawsuit brought by renowned investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas against Kennedy Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central in the Central Region, has been dismissed by the Accra High Court.

Anas, in 2018, dragged the lawmaker to court for allegedly defaming him. In his application, Anas prayed to the court to award aggravated damages of GHC25 million to compensate for the defamatory material published against him by the MP.

    In court

In a lengthy ruling delivered today Wednesday 15 March 2023, Justice Eric Baah held that the plaintiff [Anas Aremeyaw Anas] failed to prove that Ken Agyapong defamed him by airing the documentary – “Who watches the watchman” – but rather, the documentary exposed shady deals that Anas and his associates were involved in.

The court further held that Agyapong provided sufficient evidence to prove that the plaintiff used the findings of his work to solicit money from persons implicated in the evidence gathered by him.

The evidence, according to the court, also proved that those who were able to pay the sums of money demanded by Anas and his associates, got exempted from videos that were shown to the public.

The court concluded that what Anas is engaged in is not investigative journalism but rather investigative terrorism and that Agyapong was justified to call Anas “a blackmailer, corrupt, an extortionist, and evil”.

“I find the claims by the plaintiff [Anas Aremeyaw Anas) meritless and they are hereby dismissed” Justice Baah ruled.

    Publications

According to Anas, Agyapong on 29 May 2018, during a live programme in Twi on Adom TV, categorically stated that he [Anas] was a blackmailer, corrupt, an extortionist, and evil.

According to the statement of claim filed by the lawyers of Anas, the defendant, similarly, Mr. Agyapong published defamatory words on 31 May 2018, on Oman FM, a private radio station owned by the defendant [KennedyAgyapong].

The statement of claim also stated that the defendant published more defamatory materials against the plaintiff via other platforms to the extent of releasing pictures purported to be those of the investigative journalist in his bid to blow the latter’s cover.

    Reputation injured

Anas indicated in his statement of claim that his reputation, especially as a lawyer and as a globally acclaimed investigative journalist, has been egregiously damaged.

“Furthermore, Anas indicate that following the publication, he was inundated with numerous calls from business associates, journalists around the world, social relations, friends, outright strangers, and he has had to answer very mortifying questions,” the statement of claim said.

According to Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Mr. Agyapong published the words complained of knowing them to be false and reckless.

    Cost awarded

Lawyers of Kennedy Agyapong after the ruling asked the court to award cost of 1 million Ghana cedis against the plaintiff [Anas Aremeyaw Anas].

Lawyer for the Anas Aremeyaw Anas when he stood on his feet offered to pay Ghc 20,000.00 as cost.

Justice Eric Baah indicated that since the award of cost in such civil cases is at the discretion of the court, he will award cost of GHc 50,000.00 against the plaintiff [Anas Aremeyaw Anas].

Peter Wireko believes a reprisal attack is imminent and fears delay on the part of the police to arrest anyone related to the crime may spark violence.

The father who was speaking to Citi News says even if his son was indeed a robber as it’s been alleged, he doesn’t deserve to die in the manner in which he did.

He is also worried that traditional authorities in the area have turned a blind eye to the issue.

“The Traditional Authorities have turned a deaf ear to the issues, and we know they matter in cases like this. I went to see the Police Commander yesterday and I saw the chief who ordered for my son to be stoned but ‘m only hoping that they will interrogate him.”

“My worry is that if authorities don’t arrest anyone it will spark a reprisal attack and I fear for what will happen. I want authorities to give us justice in this matter.”
