  • Chinese billionaire Jack Ma donates masks, test kits to all countries in Africa

    Chinese billionaire and co-founder of Alibaba, Jack Ma, says he will donate masks, test kits and protective suits to all countries in Africa to help the continent in its fight against the novel coronavirus.

    Ma’s foundation will donate at total of 1.1 million testing kits, six million masks, and 60,000 protective suits and face shields.

    They will also work with local medical institutions on the continent to provide online training material for coronavirus clinical treatments.

    “The world cannot afford the unthinkable consequences of a COVID-19 pandemic in Africa,” he said in a statement tweeted Monday.

    Africa has so far confirmed more than 300 cases, Egypt being the hardest hit with 110 cases.

    The items will be delivered to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed will oversee the distribution of the supplies to other African countries, Ma said.

    On Friday, the billionaire founder of Alibaba said he would donate 500,000 coronavirus testing kits and one million face masks to the United States.

    He has also shared his plans to give to Europe as well as Iran.”Now it is as if we were all living in the same forest on fire.

    As members of the global community, it will be irresponsible of us to sit on the fence, panic, ignore facts, or fail to act. We need to take action now,” Ma said.

  • Minister orders arrest of Chinese nationals operating quarry without permit

    The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh has ordered the arrest of three Chinese nationals operating a quarry company without a permit at the Afienya-Dawhenya Industrial and Urban Renewal Enclave in the Greater Accra Region.

    The three established Skyline Quarry Company and employed 30 Ghanaian workers.

    They dug large trenches and used dangerous explosives like dynamite to blast rocks underground.

    There were excavators busily working at the quarry site, with trucks loaded with chippings leaving the site.

    The Minister also ordered two other Ghanaians, building structures without a permit to stop work with immediate effect.

    He issued a warning to all individuals and groups putting up a residential property on state lands in Shai Hills, Afienya and Dawhenya to stop work in their own interest since no compensation would be paid by the government upon demolition.

    This came to light when Mr. Asomah-Cheremeh led a team from the Lands Commission including; Mr Suleimana Dawuda Mahama, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, some police personnel, the media and technocrats of the Lands Ministry, to inspect on-going encroachment on the 13,200 acres of land acquired by the government in 2016 for an industrial enclave.

    The Minister said the industrial enclave was acquired for the purposes of establishing factories as individual investors could apply to the Lands Commission to properly acquire plots of lands for setting up factories.

    At Afienya, the team witnessed on-going construction of a private residential facility belonging to one John Quayson.

    According to Mr Quayson, he bought the land from Mckeon Estate.

    There was another Baba Seidu, who was not present at the time of our visit but met the mason he had contracted to construct structures intended to be used as real estate working on the site acquired by the government for an industrial hub.

    The Lands Minister said government had issued an Executive Instrument and gazzetted the Land documents at the time of acquisition and would therefore not tolerate such impunity any longer.

  • Lands Minister orders arrest of Chinese

  • Chinese national wanted for murder arrested

    The Immigration Command in the Ashanti Region has arrested a Chinese national who was put on the wanted-person list for allegedly killing another Chinese national.

    Wei Yanwei was arrested at Asankragwa in the Western Region, according to a statement released by the Ghana Immigration Service.

    “Wei Yanwei was arrested in the late hours of Tuesday, 12° February 2020 at a hideout at Adiembra, a suburb of Kurnasl in the Ashanti Region through an intelligence-led operation,” the statement indicated.

    Wei Yanwei, 25 years old allegedly stabbed to death a Chinese businessman, Lee Buau, at Asankragwa in the Wassa Amenfi West District of the Western Region on 24th January of this year, the Immigration Command stated.

    According to the statement, two other accomplices of the suspect who are also Chinese nationals, Li Daojian and Huang Xuwu were picked up by personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service.

    “They are currently in the custody of the Ashanti Regional Immigration Command and will be handed over to the Ghana Police Service for the necessary action to be taken,” the statement indicated.

  • Wanted Chinese man arrested in Western Region

    The Chinese man who was declared wanted by the Police for allegedly killing his compatriot at Asankragwa in the Western Region has been arrested by the Ghana Immigration Service.

    Wei Yanwei was arrested in the late Tuesday at a hideout at Adiembra, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region through an intelligence led operation, the Ghana Immigration said in a statement Wednesday.

    The 25-year-old Chinese national allegedly stabbed to death a Chinese businessman, Lee Buau, at Asankragwa in the Wassa Amenfi West District of the Western Region on January 24, 2020.

    Two other accomplices, also Chinese nationals, Li Daojian and Huang Xuwu were picked up by personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service.

    They are currently in the custody of the Ashanti Regional Immigration Command and will be handed over to the Ghana Police Service for the necessary action to be taken.

  • 6 Chinese arrested for assaulting Ghanaian worker at Awutu Bosom Abena

    Six Chinese nationals have been arrested by the Awutu Bereku District Police Command for assaulting a 40-year-old Ghanaian employee, Baba Amadu at Awutu Bosom Abena in the Central Region.

    The victim is battling for his life after he was handcuffed, hanged on a tree and brutalized till he started vomiting blood.

    Baba Amadu, a worker at the J. F Stone quarry owned by the Chinese nationals narrated to Kasapa New Yaw Boagyan that a supervisor ordered him to offload stones to one of the machines not knowing that one Chinese man was wielding a damaged part of the machine.

    According to him, the Chinese man came out of the machine and he informed his other colleagues and he was sacked immediately.

    “I was called back today to come and continue my work, upon reaching the yard, the Chinese men who had ambushed the compound handcuffed me, hanged me on a tree, fired a warning shot close to my eyes and beat me mercilessly till I went unconscious,” he narrated.

    The senior brother of the victim, Kweku Gyatey expressed fear that his brother could die any moment from now because he is having internal bleeding as well as vomiting blood.

    Meanwhile, the Chinese suspects have been arrested by Awutu Beraku District Police Command.
