High costs, strict conditions at O2 Arena, a challenge for hosting gospel events – Diana Hamilton

UK-based Ghanaian gospel musician Diana Antwi Hamilton has explained that organising events at London’s O2 Arena involves strict conditions and higher financial demands for gospel artistes.

When asked about the likelihood of hosting a version of her annual Awake Experience at the iconic venue, she noted that her management team is still considering several issues before taking a final decision.

In an interview with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Diana pointed out that the O2 Arena operates under rules that must be carefully considered during event planning.

“The only thing with O2 is that you know when we do these events, we get content out of that. How many O2 events have you seen content from that put out? The laws of those venues do not allow for you to own the film of that place,” she said.

She also indicated that gospel musicians are charged far more than secular artistes when attempting to stage events at the venue.

“Whatever they will charge secular artistes to do O2, secular artistes will be charged more than double of that and I will tell you why: because you don’t sell alcohol,” she said.

The O2 Arena remains one of the most sought-after venues that many Ghanaian event organisers have aspired to fill over the years.

Meanwhile, Diana Hamilton is set to host her annual Awake Experience concert on February 15, 2026, at the ICGC Christ Temple in East Teshie, with the Kumasi edition scheduled for February 22, 2026, at the Church of Pentecost, Bantama.

  • Ananzo Official can make $5K from Ghanaian artistes privately –  Quamina MP

Ananzo Official can make $5K from Ghanaian artistes privately –  Quamina MP

Circular Musician Emmanuel Kwamina Amonoo, popularly known as Quamina MP has suggested that Ghanaian artistes are capable of supporting Ananzo Official with more than the $5,000 cash gift he publicly received from Davido.

Davido made headlines after gifting Ghanaian fan, Ananzo Official an anount of $5,000 for promoting his song “With You,” featuring Omah Lay.

In response to this, several Ghanaians have described Ghanaian artists as stingy because Ananzo Official has not publicly announced receiving gifts from them, despite promoting their songs just like he did for Davido.

But Quamina MP holds a different view. He believes some Ghanaian artists can support Ananzo Official with an even higher amount, but it will not be disclosed to the public.

“Davido giving Ananzo Official $5,000 doesn’t mean Ghanaian artistes are stingy, as some people might want to make it look like. Maybe a Ghanaian musician can give him more than that amount but will never make it public.”

“You never know how other Ghanaian artistes are supporting him behind the scenes with numerous gifts for promoting our music. Unless we make it public before you know, but I will never say that no Ghanaian musician has given him anything, or we are stingy as people claim,” he stated in an  interview with Amansan Krakye monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

Quamina added that he is certain Ananzo is receiving support from Ghanaian artistes but has failed to make it public.

“I know that definitely Ananzo Official is definitely being given something small, though it is not something that is in the public domain,” he said.

One other celebrity who commented on Davido’s gesture is Ghanaian singer Efya, who admitted she’s never given a fan such an amount of money.

She explained that, not because she wouldn’t want to, but because there is a financial gap between Ghanaian and Nigerian musicians.

“I’ve helped fans by paying their fees and buying them things, but no, I’ve never given out $5,000 to a fan,” Efya said during an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM.

While emphasizing that many Ghanaian artistes do offer help to fans, Efya explained that they often prefer to do so privately — and that, unlike their Nigerian counterparts, they don’t always have the means for such large giveaways.

“Most Ghanaian artistes do give their fans money, but they just don’t like to bring it to the public attention. We don’t have enough money like the Nigerians to be able to engage in such giveaways,” she stated. “Even though we rock shoulders with the Nigerians, I don’t think financially it is the same, I don’t mind admitting that.”

Efya also pointed out that Nigerian artistes tend to earn more due to the scale of the shows they perform at globally, which puts them in a better position financially.

“We don’t get paid the same way they get paid because they are playing bigger shows,” she noted.

She urged for greater support within Ghana’s music industry to help local talents access bigger platforms and better financial returns.

“Which is why we need to support each other more so that we can get on bigger platforms to be able to be collecting enough money so we can be dashing our fans 5000,” she added.

  • Davido’s manager marries girlfriend Leona Adesanya

Davido’s manager marries girlfriend Leona Adesanya

Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, has wed his lover, Leona Adesanya, in a glamorous UK church wedding.

The ceremony was held on June 17, 2025, and attended by close friends

Not only was Davido present, but he also played the role of a groomsman at the event.

Asa also appeared in a classic black suit, and Leona in a graceful white gown, as they exchanged vows.

The couple were smiled and walking down the aisle while loved ones cheered them on.

Davido, visibly moved, described the moment as a “true celebration of love and loyalty,” highlighting his bond with Asa and his support for the new chapter in his manager’s life.

In a 202 interview on Joey Akan’s Afrobeat Intelligence Podcast, Asa Asika shared how his journey with Davido began.

He said he doesnt even remember the first time they met as they were just teenagers at the time.

Asa was schooling at Whitesands, and Davido was at British Internationational School (BIS).

Some students moved between the two schools, so they had mutual friends.

“There was this guy called David who made music,” Asa recalled.

Eventually, their mutual friends encouraged them to work together.

Davido was already passionate about music, and Asa had some experience managing artists.

He had work with singer YQ, who was signed to Storm360, a record label owned by Asa’s uncle, Obi Asika.

Their friends could see that a collaboration made sense.

At that time, though, Davido wasn’t thinking of becoming an artist.

He just wanted to produce music and run a record label.

But things changed in the year 2010 when Davido reached out to Asa and said he was ready to try singing.

Asa was working on his first on his first song, Back When, which he finished in Nigeria and featured rapper Naeto C — Asa’s cousin — on it. That moment marked Asa Asika’s first real step into artist management. He was only 20 years old and became Davido’s manager.

Together, they built the foundation for HKN Music, Davido’s first record label. Under Asa’s guidance, Davido dropped hits like Back When and Dami Duro, which quickly made him one of the biggest names in Nigerian music.

I’ve helped fans, but never given $5,000 like Davido – Efya

Ghanaian singer Efya has admitted she’s never given a fan as much as $5,000, like Nigerian star Davido recently did — not because she wouldn’t want to, but because of the financial gap between Ghanaian and Nigerian musicians.

“I’ve helped fans by paying their fees and buying them things, but no, I’ve never given out $5,000 to a fan,” Efya said during an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM.

Her comment came in response to Davido’s headline-making gesture, where he gifted a Ghanaian fan $5,000 for promoting his song “With You,” featuring Omah Lay.

While emphasizing that many Ghanaian artistes do offer help to fans, Efya explained that they often prefer to do so privately — and that, unlike their Nigerian counterparts, they don’t always have the means for such large giveaways.

Video: I’ve been told I’m too free, but that’s just how I was raised – Davido

Afrobeats artist Davido has shared that he doesn’t conform to the typical celebrity lifestyle and prefers to stay true to himself.

In an interview on ‘The Breakfast Club,’ Davido talked about how he is often criticized for being “too available” for someone of his fame.

“I love everyone, man. I’m not a rebel like Burna Boy or mystical like Wizkid. I’m just me. People know me as the outgoing, free guy. I can’t act that way. I’m not a rebel like Burna Boy, nor am I as mysterious as Wizkid,” he said.

He also mentioned how some people tell him he’s “too free” and question whether he realizes his superstar status. He responded, saying, “Some people tell me I’m too free and ask if I know I’m a superstar. I’ll just tell them, ‘If my dad walked past, you right now, you wouldn’t know it. That’s how I grew up.’”

Davido attributes his down-to-earth personality to the way he was raised.

He also shared a funny story about his manager, who often gets upset with him for being too relaxed, even when he’s at home. “My manager gets mad at me for wearing slippers in the house,” Davido laughed. “There are people who are born artistes, and they come out of their room looking perfect.”

He believes that his genuine, carefree attitude helps his fans connect with him and see the real person behind the celebrity image.

  • How I wasted my first hit money due to excitement – Davido recounts

How I wasted my first hit money due to excitement – Davido recounts

Nigerian music sensation Davido has opened up about one of his biggest financial missteps, revealing how excitement over his first major deal led him to squander his earnings in a single day.

Speaking on the Drink Champs podcast, the Afrobeats star recalled how years of struggling in makeshift studios finally paid off when he landed a record deal. However, instead of carefully planning his finances, he went on a wild spending spree.

“I got my deal, and the money came. I was like, ‘Yo, we lit!’” Davido admitted. “That same day, I took all my boys shopping. We went crazy. We spent it all.”

It wasn’t until later that he realized the money he had blown wasn’t just his—it was actually part of his album budget.

“I called my people like, ‘Yo, when are we starting the album?’ They told me, ‘Bro, you spent your budget,’” he recounted. “That was my first reality check.”

The hard lesson reshaped Davido’s approach to finances, teaching him that signing a record deal wasn’t just about receiving a big paycheck but managing an investment in his career.

“Success isn’t just about making music—it’s about making smart financial decisions,” he reflected.

Since then, Davido has built a powerhouse brand, proving that even costly mistakes can turn into valuable lessons in the long run.

  • Davido supported one of his boys to disrespect me in a song – Medikal

Davido supported one of his boys to disrespect me in a song – Medikal

Ghanaian rapper Medikal, whose real name is Samuel Frimpong, has shared the reason behind his split with Nigerian musician Davido.

In a conversation with Abeiku Santana on December 16, 2024, Medikal explained that the trouble started when Davido asked him to cut ties with Nigerian artist Dammy Krane, who was having issues with Davido at the time.

Medikal agreed to Davido’s request, but when he later asked Davido to show the same loyalty, he didn’t get the same response.

“I didn’t want to talk about Davido’s issue, but the reason we fell out was because of loyalty. I had a song with Dammy Krane, and during that time, he was beefing with Davido. Dammy Krane went on social media to announce our collaboration, and Davido hit me up, telling me not to associate with him. Because we were cool, and he often visited me when he came to Ghana, I cut ties with Dammy Krane,” Medikal explained.

He continued, “But when one of Davido’s boys disrespected me in a song, I reached out to Davido to let him know, and his response was, ‘the game is the game.’ That’s when I realised he wasn’t loyal to me. Loyalty means a lot to me, and I grew up valuing it. So, when I saw he wasn’t reciprocating that loyalty, I felt some type of way.”

Medikal also addressed why he blocked Davido on social media after their fallout: “After I confronted him about the issue, he unfollowed me. I told him, ‘I didn’t tell you that,’ and I showed him what a real friend would do. So, he unfollowed me, and I was like, cool. To make it easier for him not to see anything of mine, I blocked him. It all comes down to loyalty,” he added.

The disagreement between the two musicians has caught a lot of attention, with Medikal stressing how important loyalty is in both friendships and professional connections.

Nigerian Pastor faces backlash for inviting Davido to perform at his party

Founder of the Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church, Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, is facing criticism for inviting renowned Nigerian artist Davido to perform at his recent birthday event.

Many critics contend that having a secular musician at the celebration clashes with the moral expectations of a pastor and undermines the integrity of the gospel message.

A disappointed follower shared their frustration, stating, “As a pastor, he should have invited gospel musicians to minister and guide people towards the Kingdom of God.”

Other critics echoed similar views, calling Pastor Tobi’s decision “an embarrassment to the Gospel” and urging him to seek forgiveness for what they consider a breach of pastoral duty.

Despite the lavish nature of the event, some guests felt it lacked spiritual significance, with critics suggesting that his choice of entertainment compromised the values he is supposed to uphold as a church leader.

The popular wedding song ‘Ogechi Remix’ by renowned Nigerian singer Davido Adeleke has been taken down from YouTube due to copyright disputes.

Performed live at Davido’s opulent wedding to Chioma on June 25, 2024, the song quickly became a highlight of the year.

Released on the wedding day, “Ogechi Remix,” featuring BoyPee, Hyce, and Brown Joel, gained significant popularity among fans.

However, recent events have stirred controversy online, as the music video for “Ogechi Remix” has been removed from Davido’s YouTube channel due to copyright issues.

While the audio remains accessible on BoyPee’s official YouTube channel, the video is no longer available.

Further confusion has arisen as Davido is not listed as the official artist on the YouTube page for the song. It seems that the original version of “Ogechi,” which was remixed by BoyPee and his team, was created by a different artist before the remix.

Sophia Momodu lists reasons Davido shouldn’t have custody of Imade

In the ongoing custody battle between Davido and his first baby mama, Sophia Momodu, Momodu has responded to Davido’s lawsuit seeking joint custody of their daughter, Imade.

The proceedings took place at Justice Bashua’s family court in Yaba, Lagos State on July 5, 2024.

Davido, in his suit filed on April 17, 2024, accused Momodu of obstructing his access to Imade despite fulfilling his parental duties, such as paying school fees and providing financial support. He claimed Momodu’s demands were designed to prevent him from seeing his daughter.

In response, Momodu alleged that Davido had neglected Imade for the past two years, failing to meet his financial responsibilities. Her legal team, led by Anthony SAN, presented six arguments to the court against granting Davido custody:

Davido’s controversial lifestyle attracts negative media attention, potentially exposing Imade to trauma.
Davido’s frequent travel as an artist and the presence of unsavory individuals in his environment may negatively influence Imade.

Momodu advocates for child therapy to bridge the gap caused by Davido’s absence in Imade’s life.

Due to Davido’s career demands and marital status, Momodu questions his ability to provide consistent care.

Momodu expresses concern about Imade’s upbringing in Davido’s household, referencing a past unfortunate incident involving Davido’s son.

Momodu’s stance emphasizes her role in Imade’s upbringing and argues against Davido’s suitability for joint custody based on these grounds.

  • I refused Davido’s advances, not his right to see our daughter – Davido’s first baby mama

I refused Davido’s advances, not his right to see our daughter – Davido’s first baby mama

Popular Nigerian singer Davido’s, first baby mama has officially responded to a custody lawsuit filed by the artist at the Lagos State High Court.

The lawsuit concerns their daughter, Imade, who was born in May 2015.

According to Premium Times, Davido, represented by his lawyers Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah, and others, seeks joint custody of their 9-year-old daughter.

Ms. Momodu, represented by her legal team from Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors and Bimpe Ajegbomogun & Co, addressed the allegations made by Davido. She denied rejecting a N200 million apartment in a gated community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, that Davido claimed he had purchased for Imade’s care.

Additionally, the singer alleged that Ms. Momodu demanded an annual lump sum payment of $19,600 for a nanny, which she denied.

In her response, published by Pulse, Ms. Momodu emphasized that she only refuted claims of intimacy with Davido and rejected the various accusations of cruelty and unreasonable demands that Davido had levelled against her.

It partly read: “David Adeleke and Sophia Momodu were in a relationship from 2014-2017 and 2020-2022. During this time, David provided financial support for their daughter, covering school fees, rent, and other living expenses, including the cars mentioned in the article.

Sophia ended her relationship with David in July 2022. Since then, David has continually threatened to make Sophia’s life difficult if she does not comply with his demands for sexual availability.

“Sophia has never denied David access to their daughter, only access to her body and intimacy, which he has taken issue with. David is in a publicly known relationship, and Sophia wishes him well. She seeks to move forward in her life free from harassment and verbal abuse.”

The 37-year-old entrepreneur claimed that Davido neglected Imade for more than two years.

Ms. Momodu also claimed that the 31-year-old singer has opted not to visit their daughter or attend important events in her life.

“David has not seen our daughter since July 2022 by his own choice. Sophia has never denied him the opportunity to see his daughter. He has not reached out on special occasions, such as her birthday or Christmas, for the past two years, which has left his daughter distressed and questioning why her father has cut contact with her. Despite this, David posts images of her on social media to falsely portray himself as a supportive and active father.”

Additionally, the statement alleged that Sophia has solely shouldered expenses, including rent, living and travel costs, healthcare, and all other expenses related to their daughter in the last two years.

“Since July 2022, David has not fulfilled his financial responsibilities towards their daughter, leaving her school fees unpaid. Their daughter’s school has contacted him multiple times regarding the 2021/2022 school term fees and January 2023, with no response.”

“Legal counsel was sought in February 2023, resulting in David’s father, Mr Adedeji Adeleke, eventually paying the outstanding fees. Despite this neglect, Sophia firmly maintains that the most crucial support David can provide their daughter is his presence and emotional support,’’ the statement read.

The entrepreneur stated that she began legal efforts to establish a formal co-parenting agreement with Davido two years ago. However, she claimed that Davido and his legal team consistently refused to cooperate towards a mutually agreeable resolution.

Instead, she alleged that they sought to discredit and isolate her and their daughter using Davido’s social influence and network.

Nigerian singer, Davido has filed a lawsuit seeking joint custody of his daughter, Imade, against Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child. Filed at the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024, the suit (tagged LD/1587PMC/2024) lists Mr. David Adedeji Adeleke (Davido) as the applicant and Ms. Sophia Momodu as the respondent.

According to Punch Newspapers, Davido is requesting “unfettered and unrestricted access” to Imade. In his motion, supported by lawyers Dr. Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah, and others, Davido detailed the financial provisions he has made for his daughter. He emphasized his consistent payment of Imade’s school fees to ensure she receives a quality education without any interruptions.

Davido also mentioned purchasing an apartment in a secured condominium community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, specifically for Sophia and Imade. However, Sophia allegedly refused this arrangement and insisted that Davido continue to pay N5,000,000 annually for a rented residence instead.

In terms of transportation, Davido stated that he provided a Range Rover SUV for Sophia and Imade’s use, but when Sophia claimed it was not in good condition, she failed to inform him directly. To address this, Davido provided an additional vehicle, a Highlander SUV, and also gave Sophia N5.8 million for the Range Rover’s repair. Thus, she had two vehicles at her disposal.

Despite these efforts, Davido contends that Sophia continues to make unreasonable demands, which he describes as attempts to “frustrate him.” He also mentioned his financial contributions toward the rent of Sophia’s current residence with their daughter, stating that his attempts to support Imade’s overall well-being have been met with continuous and excessive demands from Sophia.

VIDEO: No rapper is as consistent, famous as Wizkid, Burna Boy and Davido – Sarkodie

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has ignited a lively debate with his recent remarks, asserting that no rapper matches the consistency and fame of Nigerian music icons Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido.

In a recent interview, Sarkodie clarified that his comments in his song “Brag” were not intended as a jab but to highlight a point about fame and consistency in the music industry.

His latest release has generated significant buzz, prompting responses from numerous rappers across the continent.

Sarkodie emphasized that his mention of Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy was not meant to diss them.

“Definitely, I am not jabbing anyone, and if I am doing that, it has to be rappers, and I do not care about that. The biggest jab will be that I didn’t mention any rapper because none of them are consistent and famous as these singers,” he stated.

Addressing reactions from fellow musicians like Lyrical Joe, Dremo, and Don Itchi, who have responded to the “Brag” instrumentals, Sarkodie views it as a positive for the music industry.

He reiterated that “Brag” is not a diss track, pointing out that if it were, artists like Black Sherif wouldn’t have been included in the references.

Sarkodie further explained his intentions: “It’s great PR, and you cannot pay for this. Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido cannot think I am jabbing them… They are not rappers. I am talking to rappers about how long I have been in the game. I am only using Nigeria’s top 3 singers as a reference. It’s true, I was there when they all came, and it’s about references.”

He continued to highlight the organic buzz around “Brag,” which he sees as beneficial, especially as he prepares to release his “Championship Mixtape.” “Even if we sat down to plan it, we wouldn’t get it as organic as it is,” Sarkodie noted.
