Essien to assist Otto Addo in Black Stars coaching role – See alleged list of team’s technical team

Speculation surrounding the next technical team for the Black Stars continues to circulate within the media sphere, with Otto Addo emerging as a prominent figure in discussions to succeed Chris Hughton.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2024, reports emerged indicating that former Chelsea star Michael Essien is being considered for the assistant coaching position.

According to the reports, Essien has expressed openness to the opportunity and has welcomed the Ghana Football Association’s approach to serving as deputy to Otto Addo.

There are indications that the Ghana Football Association intends to construct a Black Stars technical team largely comprised of former players from the Black Stars squads spanning 2005 to 2014.

Recent rumours have linked Asamoah Gyan and Adam Kwarasey to potential roles within the team. It’s reported that Gyan may take on the position of custodian trainer, while Kwarasey, a member of the 2014 World Cup team, is under consideration for the role previously held by the esteemed Richard Kingson.

Additionally, Asamoah Gyan is rumoured to be considered as a replacement for Ameenu Shadow, who served as team manager during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Laryea Kingston, who is currently serving as an assistant coach with the Black Starlets, is also reportedly being considered for one of the two assistant coach positions.

    Denial by GFA Exco member:

A member of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, Frederick Acheampong, has expressed shock about the reports flying in the media space over the issue.

“The appointment of the coach does not even stop with the search committee. This is from our level (the Executive Committee). The decision we made was that the search committee should draw up a shortlist of three coaches, so I was surprised to hear that Otto Addo is leading the race as if the search committee is in charge of appointing a coach.

“The search committee is expected to bring three coaches to the Executive Council for further discussions and checks before one person will be chosen amongst the three,” he said in a Kessben FM interview monitored by Footballghana.com.

Kumasi edition of Save Ghana Football demo halted following GFA calls for talks

Organisers of the Save Ghana Football protest have suspended the Kumasi edition of the demonstration aimed at calling on the government and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to reform football administration at all levels.

According to the organisers, their decision comes on the back of an invitation for an open dialogue extended by the GFA following the Accra edition staged last week (February 14).

“Conveners of Save Ghana Football Movement wish to notify the public of their intention to put on hold, the second protest originally slated for Friday, February 23, 2024, at Garden City, Kumasi.

“This decision was arrived at after a positive round of talks between the group and the Parliament of Ghana, as well as the relevant bodies whose duty we believe it is to revive the passion of the nation, football.

“While last week’s demonstration was the first of many things to come to ensure that football receives the right attention from those at the helm of affairs to develop the game and change our current narrative, it has become necessary to put the Kumasi event on hold to make room for dialogue following approaches made to us by the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry for Youth and Sports,” the group said in a statement dated Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

Last week, campaigners led by a group of leading sports journalists staged a protest in Accra, where a petition containing 15 key demands was presented to Parliament, the ministry and the GFA.

“It is an open secret that the football ecosystem is evidently collapsing and our demand that the nation embrace this unique opportunity to reform and set the game back on the path of its glory days has so far received the right attention from the various quarters, the statement added.

Save Ghana Football Kumasi Demo on hold

The organisation stated that the decision to postpone the Kumasi protest is in no way a resolution to the issue, but it does emphasise the need for discussion on their objectives.

  • Otto Addo set to become new Black Stars coach after topping GFA interview

Otto Addo set to become new Black Stars coach after topping GFA interview

Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly considering the re-appointment of former Black Stars coach Otto Addo as the new head coach of the Black Stars after scoring the highest marks in the job interview.

The Black Stars are currently without a substantive coach after the dismissal of coach Chris Hughton after his poor display and exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The GFA has since appointed a committee to hunt for an eligible coach to replace Chris Hughton.

Among the over 500 applicants received by the GFA for the role, Otto Addo, per speculation, is currently leading the race to become the new coach for Ghana, with talks currently ongoing between the two parties.

The 48-year-old’s first stint with the Black Stars was in early 2022, when he succeeded coach Milovan Rajevac and later led Ghana to edge Nigeria in two legs to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

At the Mundial in Qatar, he recorded only a win against South Korea and lost the remaining two against Portugal and Uruguay, after which he returned to his post at German giants Borussia Dortmund after the competition.

Meanwhile, some high-profile names, such as German coach Jurgen Kohler and former Black Stars coach Goran , as well as two local coaches and former players of the Black Stars, Maxwell Konadu and Michael.

#SaveGhanaFootball: What was the point of the demonstration? – John Paintsil quizzes

Former Black Stars player, John Paintsil, has rejected assertions that Ghanaian football is experiencing a decline, stating that there are no fundamental issues with the sport in the country.

His comments follow the #SaveGhanaFootball protest, which took place on February 14, 2024.

During the demonstration, football enthusiasts and journalists voiced their discontent with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), citing various grievances, including the early exit of the Black Stars from the 2023 AFCON tournament during the group stages.

“I need to know the point of the demonstration. If it’s Ghana football, then we are not talking about the national team. The national team comes once every four months,” John Paintsil said.

He emphasised that the criticisms regarding the Black Stars’ underperformance are unfounded, as people seem to overlook the team’s achievements in qualifying for both the World Cup and AFCON tournaments.

“Even when we talk about the Black Stars, they qualified us for the World Cup. We have to see that we are still building. It’s not the responsibility of the FA to look after local-based players. It’s up to the teams to develop well,” Paintsil said.

Although protesters have expressed concerns about the lack of opportunities for local players in the national team, Paintsil said it’s the prerogative of the coach to invite players, not the FA.

He said, “Every national team coach has a philosophy and they want to do well to improve their CV. It’s not the FA who determines which local player is called; the so-called interference in hearsay, there is no truth in that.”

  • “Already-made coaches don’t add value to the teams, so don’t appoint any – Kyei Mensah-Bonsu warns GFA

Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has issued a cautionary message to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regarding its quest for a new coach for the Black Stars.

Expressing his views, the Member of Parliament for Suame advised against appointing a well-established coach for the team. “Let’s not go for already-made coaches because they don’t add value to the national team.

The up-and-coming ones can help in building a solid team for the Black Stars. It’s time to dwell on the young ones as it was previously done,” he emphasised during parliamentary proceedings.

Following Ghana’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where Ivory Coast emerged as champions, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) made the decision to part ways with the former Premier League manager and the entire technical staff.

Now, the GFA is actively seeking a new coach to lead the national team.

Amidst these developments, allegations of interference in player selection within the various national teams have emerged in recent years, drawing scrutiny towards the GFA.

These claims resurfaced during the 2023 AFCON when Richard Ofori, who was inactive, was selected as the first-choice goalkeeper over Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott.

As a result, Chris Hughton’s team exited the tournament at the group stage without securing a single victory, ultimately leading to his dismissal from the role.

Learn to end the insults of the players – Kurt Okraku to Ghanaians on Black Stars

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has issued a strong warning, cautioning that players might decline selection for the Black Stars if subjected to severe criticism following subpar performances.

The Black Stars received significant backlash following their disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, where they were eliminated in the group stage.

Speaking to the press during the GFA’s meet-the-press event in Kumasi, Okraku urged fans to refrain from verbally abusing players, highlighting the negative impact such behaviour could have on player morale and their willingness to represent the national team.

“If we excessively criticise our players when things go wrong, we risk losing their commitment and dedication. That’s why I’ve consistently emphasised the need for unwavering support for our players, regardless of the circumstances,” Okraku stated.

He emphasised the importance of trusting the technical team to make critical decisions regarding player selection, citing the expertise and judgement of the coaching staff.

Ghana’s disappointing performance at the 2023 AFCON saw them finish third in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

Despite efforts to turn the tournament around, the Black Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde and consecutive 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, resulting in their early elimination.

This marked the second consecutive tournament in which Ghana failed to advance beyond the group stage, extending the nation’s AFCON title drought to 42 years.

Okraku’s plea underscores the necessity of creating a supportive environment to nurture player development and success, urging fans to stand behind the team through both triumphs and challenges.

VIDEO: GFA’s Kurt Okraku arrives at Raphael Dwamena’s funeral

Today, the final funeral rites for the late Ghanaian footballer, Raphael Dwamena, took place at the Adjiriganor AstroTurf.

People from Ghana’s football community and beyond gathered to pay their last respects to the former Black Stars player, standing alongside Dwamena’s grieving family.

Among the attendees were Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association, and several other association executives. The solemn occasion was a time for reflection and remembrance of Dwamena’s life and contributions to Ghanaian football.

During the ceremony, Raphael’s widow delivered a touching tribute, describing him as her confidant and light. She expressed comfort in the cherished memories they shared.

“Rapha, your name still echoes in my heart with warmth and melody. Reflecting on our shared years of bliss, I find solace in precious memories of the laughter, wisdom and the love that defined us. You were more than a husband. You were my confidante, guide and the source of irreplaceable love,” she said.

In a separate development, Raphael’s sister, Yvonne Dwamena, announced a second funeral date on Onua TV during an interview with Captain Smart. She explained that the family would hold a separate funeral service on Saturday, distinct from the one organized by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

This decision arose from a dispute between the wife and the deceased’s family over the provision of a shroud for the corpse. The family objected to the wife and her family’s involvement in providing the shroud, leading to the decision to hold a separate funeral service.

  • You expected us to “scowl like mad dogs”? – Saddick Adams blasts critics over hugs with sports minister

You expected us to “scowl like mad dogs”? – Saddick Adams blasts critics over hugs with sports minister

Saddick Adams has addressed the cordial images capturing his encounter with Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif in the parliament lobby on February 14, 2024.

Adams, alongside other prominent sports journalists, spearheaded the ‘Save Ghana Football’ protest, rallying hundreds to march through the streets of Accra to protest against the mismanagement of football in the country.

Their protest included a stop at Parliament, where they presented a petition and observed deliberations on the state of Ghanaian football by lawmakers.

A video surfaced showing Saddick, Patrick Osei Agyemang (also known as Songo), and Dan Kweku Yeboah exchanging pleasantries with the sports minister, including handshakes and hugs, which quickly gained traction online.

Critics argued that the video contradicted the anger and concerns expressed during the protest, but Adams addressed these criticisms in a post on X, providing a detailed explanation of the events that unfolded at Parliament.

The accusatory post against him by a user by the name of @natioonn read: “Dear Saddick, I’m your biggest fan and I support everything you’ve said about the state of Ghana football, but after watching the video of you and Country Man Zongo when you met the Sports Minister, I’m convinced that nobody is actually angry in this country. We are all hungry and need our share of the national cake.”

    Read Obama’s response below:

Massa, We protested against an institution and its leader. The first point of our petition is asking for this person’s ministry to be investigated for financial infractions we have observed.

Parliament receives this petition in his presence and instantly commissions the House to begin the investigation.

We leave the chamber and the minister excuses the house to exchange short pleasantries with us and thank us for taking the bold initiative to help fix the game. We also express our appreciation that he came to meet us.

So to you, it is at the parliament lobby that we should have grabbed him by the throat or scowled like mad dogs just to show that we are angry?

We are sports journalists meeting a sports minister after protesting against his tenure. A man we have shared meetings with and exchanged ideas with privately as brothers.

Is our courage as journalists rather not to be seen in us doing what we did and still exchanging pleasantries like civilised human beings?

I’m not trained to behave in an uncivilised manner towards all manner of people.

There is certainly time for everything.

  • Ghanaians embrace Otto Addo’s reinstatement as head coach of Black Stars

Following reports indicating that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is considering reappointing Otto Addo as the new head coach of the Black Stars, the majority of Ghanaians seem highly supportive of this potential decision.

The Ghana senior men’s national team currently finds itself without a permanent coach following the recent departure of Chris Hughton, in the aftermath of the team’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

In response, the GFA has formed a committee tasked with finding a suitable replacement, with specific criteria outlined for the search process.

However, speculation suggests that Otto Addo is emerging as the frontrunner for the position, with discussions reportedly underway between Addo and the GFA.

This prospective appointment is gaining favour among Ghanaian football enthusiasts, who appear to endorse the choice, while the GFA is reportedly inclined to offer Addo a long-term contract.

Otto Addo previously served as head coach in early 2022, stepping in after Milovan Rajevac, and notably guided Ghana to victory over Nigeria in the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Despite a mixed performance at the tournament itself, Addo’s track record and familiarity with the team are seen as assets for the role.

After the World Cup, he returned to his coaching duties at German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund.

  • Peace FM’s Nana Yaw Kesseh blasts GFA chief for undermining impact of ‘Save Ghana Football’ demo

Peace FM’s Nana Yaw Kesseh blasts GFA chief for undermining impact of ‘Save Ghana Football’ demo

Nana Yaw Kesseh, one of the organisers of the ‘Save Ghana Football’ protest, has strongly responded to what he perceives as an attempt by Nana Oduro Sarfo, an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association, to undermine the significance of the protest held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Allegedly, Oduro Sarfo claimed that the demonstration failed to meet his expectations due to a low turnout. He reportedly tried to incite anger among the protestors by unexpectedly appearing at the gathering point of the march, the Black Stars Square.

In his rebuttal on Kessben FM, Nana Yaw Kesseh criticised Oduro Sarfo for trying to deflect attention from the key issues raised by the protestors. He dismissed the notion of a low turnout, revealing that the protest saw over 3000 participants.

Furthermore, Nana Yaw Sarfo disclosed that the protest leaders had the opportunity to meet with parliamentary leaders following the submission of their petition.

“Does he know what a poorly organised demonstration is? This demonstration attracted over 3000 people. We went from Circle to the Black Stars Square and there was not a single report of someone misconducting himself.

“Demonstrations are not even about the crowd but if that is his worry, then we are telling him that we had the crowd. We are talking about the lives of the people of Ghana. It is a serious matter and we must treat it accordingly. No one pelted anyone with stones or sachet water, “ he said.

The protest garnered significant support from Ghanaian football fans, with thousands turning out to advocate for substantial reforms and a complete overhaul of the Ghanaian football structure.

Protesters are urging swift intervention from authorities, citing concerns that numerous Ghanaian football talents are being squandered due to inadequate management and perceived corruption within the system.

Following their march, which began at the Obra Spot, demonstration leaders formally submitted a petition to key entities, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Parliament, and the Ghana Football Association.

Pick-pockets purloined Alhaji Gruzah’s money at ‘Save Ghana Football’ demonstration – Report

Alhaji Abdul Karim Gruzah, a seasoned football administrator, was a victim of theft during the ‘Save Ghana Football’ demonstration held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, according to reports.

This unfortunate incident was brought to light by renowned broadcaster Dan Kwaku Yeboah during the February 15, 2024, edition of Peace FM’s Kokrokoo program.

According to Yeboah, he became aware of the theft after speaking with Alhaji Gruzah following the demonstration, which reportedly saw the participation of over 3000 individuals.

Both Kwaku Yeboah and Kwami Sefa Kayi commended Alhaji Gruzah, the organisers, and the numerous Ghanaians who attended the demonstration.

“Alhaji Gruzah came clad in all-white while we were in black. His reason was that while we were frustrated, he was happy with our decision to register our frustrations and call the authorities to order.

I was having a conversation with him after the demonstration, and he told me someone had stolen his money. While the young men were praising him, some dipped their hands into his pocket and picked up the money,” Kwaku Yeboah said.

Kwaku Yeboah expressed admiration for the organisers of the demonstration, hailing it as a groundbreaking event in the sports industry.

He noted that history will likely remember them as the first Ghanaians to orchestrate such a large-scale protest concerning sports matters.

The demonstration attracted thousands of football enthusiasts who demanded extensive reforms and a restructuring of Ghana’s football system.

Protesters called for urgent action from authorities, citing concerns about the mismanagement and perceived corruption within the system, which they believe is causing talented Ghanaian footballers to languish.

Following their march from Obra Spot, the demonstration leaders submitted a petition to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Parliament, and the Ghana Football Association.

#SaveGhanaFootball demo useless, GFA should be dissolved – Nana Aba Anamoah

Ghanaian media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah, has voiced her dissatisfaction and frustration with the current state of football in Ghana.

During a live studio discussion on 3Music TV, Nana Aba criticized the recent “Save Ghana Football” protest by some football enthusiasts, describing it as futile.

She suggested that the only solution to the issues plaguing Ghanaian football is to dissolve the GFA and face a ban from FIFA, the world football governing body.

“Yesterday, I saw that protest, the ‘save Ghana football’. It’s not going to do anything. What we should do is dissolve that FA, get a ban from FIFA, and put our house in order. And putting a house in order doesn’t mean putting friends and cronies there. It means to put people with sense there to work,” she said.

She also expressed that she is not afraid of any politician or football official in the country. She emphasized that she expected better leadership from Kurt Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), and Henry Asante Twum, the Head of Communications of the GFA.

“I used to work with Kurt when he was doing the FA Cup. I used to host it for him. And I expected better from Kurt Okraku, but Kurt has not done better. I expected Henry Asante Twum to do better. He hasn’t done better,” she said.

The broadcaster further remarked that Ghanaian football was ‘dead’ and that the Ghana Premier League was on the brink of collapse.

“Our football is dead! Have you followed the local league? Forget about the Black Stars, because they don’t matter. The real problem is our local league. It is dead!” she said.

She also accused the GFA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of corruption, questioning how the GFA could budget $8.5 million for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which had a winning prize of $7 million.

“The FA and the sports ministry are in bed, they are having wild sex. That’s what is happening. And we are paying for the room on the hour. I don’t know if they are using condoms. We are paying for everything. Our football is dead!

“How do you budget $8.5 million for a tournament with a winning prize of $7 million? How does that make sense? Our football is dead. It is completely dead,” she claimed.

Video: Protesters hoot at, sack Deputy Sports Minister, ‘Save Ghana Football’ demo

Amidst jeers and boos, several high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) faced dismissal by protestors during the Save Ghana Football demonstration.

Among those identified were GFA’s General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, Deputy Sports Minister Evans Bobie Opoku, and GFA’s Executive Council Member, Nana Oduro Sarfo.

The officials encountered a chorus of “Kurt Must Go” chants and disapproving remarks as they approached to receive the formal petition from the demonstration leaders at Black Stars Square, the designated gathering point for the protestors.

The demonstrators had initially planned to convene at the Accra Sports Stadium to voice their grievances to the National Sports Authority (NSA). However, upon being denied entry, they were redirected to Black Stars Square.

The protest stemmed from discontent over the poor performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

With no victories in any of their matches, Ghana was eliminated from the tournament after recording two draws and a defeat during the group stage.

  • GFA mulls a re-appointment of former Black Stars coach Otto Addo

Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly considering reappointing Coach Otto Addo to manage the Black Stars.

Addo, currently a member of Borussia Dortmund’s coaching staff, previously led the Black Stars during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, successfully securing Ghana’s qualification for the tournament ahead of Nigeria.

However, Ghana’s campaign in Qatar ended in disappointment as they exited the competition at the group stage with two losses and one win.

Following Addo’s departure from the role, Chris Hughton was appointed as head coach.

Despite significant support, Hughton couldn’t guide the team to success, leading to his dismissal after Ghana’s early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Amid the ongoing search for a new head coach, recent reports indicate a potential return for Otto Addo.

Discussions within the GFA suggest that the former Black Stars player is being considered for the position, with the possibility of him assuming the role before the end of February.

Sports Minister account on how AFCON money was spent, claims no money was paid to the players

Ghana is reported to have spent over $3 million at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast this year, according to Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, he said that the Ministry had allocated roughly $8.5 million, of which the Finance Ministry had given $5 million for the competition’s initial phase.

He said that of the $5 million made available, only $3 million was used for per diems, team travel, medical expenses, supplies, logistics, and lodging.

“Mr Speaker, our estimated budget for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament was $8,506,450.00 to cater for the team’s pre-tournament and the Tournament Phases (group stages, 1/16 stage, quarter-final, semi-final and final),” he said.

“Out of the $8,506,450.00, $5,071,840.36 was released by the Ministry of Finance, of which US$3,070,067.81 was spent on per diems, flight arrangements for the team, medicals, equipment, logistics and hospitality. This resulted in a surplus of $2,001,772.55, after our exit from the tournament,” he explained.

Additionally, Mr. Ussif, stated that the Sports Ministry raised almost $400,000 to help the government provide the team with the best possible preparations.

“An amount of US$400,000.00 was received from MTN Ghana. This contributed immensely to the government’s expenditure towards the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.”

Media reports had suggested that the Black Stars players were paid $30,000 each before the final Group B game against Mozambique to motivate them in the crucial match.

But the sports minister said no money was paid to the players as they did not qualify for the next round of the tournament. He explained that it’s a measure adopted to manage the country’s resources.

“Mr Speaker, the Ministry had negotiated to pay bonuses should the team progress to the next round of the tournament, therefore, no qualification bonuses were paid due to the team’s exit at the group stage.

“Mr Speaker, this measure adopted by the Ministry, was aimed at motivating the team to go all out and progress from one stage of the competition to the next and also ensuring prudent management of resources,” he stated.

During an interview with GTV, the woman expressed her profound disappointment with the draw, which ultimately led to Ghana’s exit from the AFCON.

Having been a longtime follower of Ghanaian football, she felt compelled to participate in the demonstration, unable to remain indifferent as the country’s football faced a concerning decline.

“Football is my heart, soul and everything. I have been watching football for a long time but our game against Namibia hurt me. I was watching the game when we scored two and allowed them to equalise. I couldn’t sleep that night. I decided to join the demonstration today because of that game.”

I was asked to transfer 50% of my $100k appearance fee into unknown account after Qatar World Cup – Alhaji

Alhaji Abdul Karim Grunsah, the Owner and President of King Faisal Babes, has dropped a bombshell accusation during an interview on Angel TV.

Grunsah alleges that following his receipt of a substantial $100,000 appearance fee after the Qatar World Cup, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) approached him with a shocking request.

According to Grunsah’s account, the GFA member demanded that he transfer 50% of the appearance fee into a specific account, despite it being rightfully his. Despite feeling compelled to comply, Grunsah now claims to have bank evidence to support his claims.

This revelation has sent shockwaves through the sporting community, prompting widespread speculation about the motives behind such a request.

Sports journalist Saddick Adams has raised pertinent questions about whether this was a kickback scheme or related to the coefficient, a practice banned by a government white paper with the authority of a high court.

“Who could that be? What was the money for? Kickback or coefficient. Remember coefficient is banned by a government white paper which has the powers of a high court. Black Stars, a money-making machine,” he said.

Video: Me! I am part of that demonstration against GFA – Prophet Oduro declares

Ghanaian preacher and founder of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Dr Kofi Oduro has openly declared his participation in the February 14 demonstration against the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the National Sports Authority and the Sports Ministry.

” Me! I am part of that demonstration against GFA,” the preacher said.

The ‘Fix Ghana Football’ demonstration protest is aimed at holding the GFA, National Sports Authority, and Ministry of Youth and Sports accountable for the revitalization of Ghanaian football.

In a tweet featuring a video, outspoken sports journalist and lead convener of the Fix Ghana Football demonstration, Saddick Adams, expressed gratitude towards the founder of Alabaster Ministries.

The Alabaster Ministries founder is heard lamenting the declining state of Ghanaian football and criticising the attitude and commitment of some Ghanaian players. He went on to accuse some players of disrespect for their coaches and disregard for the ‘weight’ of the jersey.

“Look at how the Black Stars went to play. Players don jerseys, and they act as if they are wearing police uniforms, army uniforms, customs navy or fire service uniforms. It is like that. You are wearing the image of the whole nation. The Black Stars jersey is sold to people; the person does not even understand the soul of the nation.

He comes on the pitch and acts like he is doing us a favour. Where are the days where people played Black Stars for free because we were rather doing them a favour? Patriotism, where are the days? I mean, now players gift coaches something small for their pockets and as a result, they don’t even respect them,” he fumed.

However, Prophet Oduro believes that, all these “madness’ wouldn’t have played Ghana football and left it in its current sorry state.

“You substitute a player and he starts waving off his hands. Are you the only player? Come to Ghana and see the players. Go to Police Depot Park, Alajo, Ashaiman, and others. But if not for the madness of GFA, all these things wouldn’t have happened,” he added.

The protesters have outlined some proposals that seek new structural reforms in Ghana’s football, such as the abolishment of the management committees, accountability from sponsorships, and better organisation of football.

They have secured permission from the Ghana Police Service to embark on the protest on Valentine’s Day.

Kurt Okraku offered me a job as GFA’s Communications Officer – Saddick Adams

Head of Sports at Angel Broadcasting Network, Saddick Adams, has denied any allegations of hostility between himself and Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

During an appearance as a guest on Metro TV’s One On One talk show, hosted by Bridget Otoo, Adams clarified that he was indeed offered a position within Kurt’s administration, which he chose not to accept.

“He called me and said that he wanted to offer me a Deputy Communications Director job. My brother Henry was there, and I said, Okay, I am thinking about it.

“But I thought that I wasn’t psychologically ready because it was just at the end of Nyantakyi’s era and also at the end of the Normalisation Committee, which I criticised… So, psychologically, I thought I needed a gap,” he narrated.

Despite being a vocal critic of the administration, Saddick Adams, who has garnered a reputation as a fierce critic, stated that he maintains a fraternal bond with Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“Kurt Okraku is like my brother. I am not sure any football person has ever stayed with me late in the night and left my house around 2 a.m. He stayed with me long before he became the GFA president. I used to go to his office at least once a month,” he stated.

Saddick, known as Sports Obama, and a group of journalists are rallying Ghanaians for a protest slated for February 14, 2024, on the back of the decline in Ghanaian football in recent times.

Coaching not the problem now, but the ‘greedy’ GFA search committee – Songo

Sports broadcaster Patrick Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo, has expressed his belief that the five-member committee established by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should demonstrate honesty by resigning from their positions.

Songo asserts that there are significant matters within Ghanaian football that must be addressed before the selection of the next Black Stars coach.

He emphasises the importance of resolving these internal issues before proceeding with the appointment process.

Songo advises the committee members not to be influenced by the monetary compensation they receive as sitting allowances and to prioritize making the right decisions for the future of Ghanaian football.

“Coaching is not the solution, the five-member committee are the problem. Common sense should tell them that what they are doing is not right,” the sports broadcaster said.

He added, “When somebody gives you a job and you the person taking the job realise that this job has problems that need to be taken care of, you should say no. Rather they are thinking about the money they can earn from sitting at the meeting.”

Songo expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of Mark Addo who is Chairman of the Committee saying, “The one leading the committee is the one who led us to appoint Milovan Rajevac.”

GFA set to construct 40-Bed accommodation in Prampram

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku outlined ambitious plans to revamp the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram during a Meet the Press event in Kumasi on Wednesday.

One of the key features of the proposed upgrades is the construction of a 40-bed accommodation facility, marking a significant stride towards modernizing the center to align with global standards.

Partially financed by the government’s allocation from the World Cup 2022 funds, the initiative seeks to enhance the center’s infrastructure to cater to the needs of different national teams and facilitate match hosting.

“We are constructing flood lights on the AstroTurf in Prampram. Building a 40-bed accommodation facility, top-of-rang natural grass pitches and procurement of vehicles for regional blocs,” Okraku elaborated on the multifaceted development plans.

As part of the extensive upgrade initiative, floodlights will be installed on the AstroTurf, and vehicles will be procured for regional blocs, adding further depth to the renovation efforts.

These additions underscore the GFA’s unwavering dedication to fortifying football infrastructure and ensuring adequate facilities for training sessions and competitive matches.

Since its establishment, the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence has been a crucial hub for training and camp activities for various Ghanaian national teams.

With these planned enhancements, the center is poised to strengthen its pivotal role in nurturing and honing football talent while facilitating the sport’s expansion at the national level.

For the Leicester City winger, sharing the field with his childhood hero was a remarkable experience.

Issahaku debuted for the national team in September 2021, contributing to the Black Stars’ 3-1 victory over Zimbabwe in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

In an interview with Leicester City Football Club’s official media, the forward said: “When I was coming up, I looked up to AndrĂŠ [Ayew]. I liked how he was playing and how much passion he had for football.

He always gave his all to the team and, at that time, I just loved him. I wanted to be like him, and now I play with him for Ghana.”

“It was so amazing to be on the field with him. It was a great feeling to meet him. The most exciting part was that when I went there, he guided me. He started to give me advice about the game and how to improve.”

GFA President Kurt Okraku cries over insufficient funds as a major challenge

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has identified funding as a major challenge in the development of football in the country.

According to him, if he had the opportunity, he would give every club in the country a million dollars every season.

“Funding is a major challenge. Football is a capital-intensive endeavour. Despite our efforts to secure funding, it has not been adequate.

If given the opportunity, I would allocate one million dollars per season to each club in the Premier League, Women’s Premier League, or Division One League,” the Ghana FA boss said at a press session in Kumasi.

Meanwhile, the Ghana FA president has assured that his administration is committed to taking the necessary steps to develop the country’s football.

During the engagement with the press, Kurt Okraku said the association takes responsibility for the poor performance of the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

“We need the collective effort of all and sundry. We take responsibility as leaders of the association but will count on the collective ideas to continue to transform the sport,” Kurt Okraku said.

GFA to offer extended contract to next Black Stars coach

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA),Kurt Okraku, revealed plans to extend a long-term contract to the incoming Black Stars coach.

This declaration came during a press briefing in Kumasi, where Okraku addressed the nation’s dissatisfaction with Ghana’s performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in CĂ´te d’Ivoire.

As GFA President for over four years, Okraku is spearheading the search for the team’s fifth head coach.

“When we find the new set of trainers, it is our collective decision to stay with them for the long haul and all our national teams,” he stated.

Following Ghana’s disappointing exit from the tournament, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) decided to part ways with Chris Hughton and his coaching staff, signalling the start of the search for a new coach.

To streamline the process, the GFA formed a five-member search committee assigned to identify the new coach within a three-week period.

The committee reportedly received over 600 applications for the position.

Ghana’s premature exit from the tournament occurred after the team finished third in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

The Black Stars faced a setback with a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde, followed by consecutive 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, ultimately leading to their elimination from the competition

GFA denies knowledge of President’s expenditure on Black Stars

Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mark Addo, has stated that the GFA cannot provide an exact figure for the government’s investment in the Black Stars during the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Despite claims by Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, that the government spent $8.5 million on the Black Stars at the 2023 AFCON, the GFA has distanced itself from these assertions.

According to Addo, it is the responsibility of the Sports Ministry to create a budget for the Black Stars, and therefore, the GFA cannot verify the accuracy of the alleged amount.

“As to the actual money that is spent, the FA has no input in that. The FA does not receive any money from the Ministry to spend on any item,” the GFA Vice President said at the presser on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.

He added, “The Ministry has a purse holder who is embedded in the team, so every expenditure he accounts for it.”

He emphasised that the GFA prepared a list for the Sports Ministry to determine the amount of money to be allocated to the team. He added that no member of the GFA has a fair idea of the amount the government gave the ministry.

He said, “The perception that the Ministry has spent $8.5 million on the Black Stars—anyone on the FA does not know about it because we didn’t advance from our group stage.

“Once we prepare where we presume the team will reach for the ministry, we have no idea the amount,” he added.

Several days have passed since Ghana’s exit from the AFCON, yet the Ministry of Youth and Sports has not released a report detailing the budget allocated for the Black Stars at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

GFA did not interfere in Hughton, Otto Addo’s work – Kurt Okraku on fallout of coaches

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has refuted allegations suggesting his involvement in player selections and call-ups during Chris Hughton’s tenure as head coach of the Black Stars.

In recent times, Okraku has faced significant scrutiny, with accusations pointing to his alleged interference in the decision-making process regarding player selections for the national team. Similar claims emerged during the terms of previous head coaches, Charles Kwablan Akonnor and Otto Addo.

However, Okraku has vehemently dismissed these accusations, asserting that he had no hand in player selections or call-ups during the respective tenures of the coaches mentioned.

“I didn’t interfere in the job of Charles Akonnor. Neither did I interfere in the job of Otto Addo… and neither did I interfere in the job of Mr. Chris Hughton,” he said during the GFA’s meeting with the press in Kumasi on Wednesday, February 7.

“They were our coaches and any other coach who will be hired by the Football Association will be given the freedom as always to deliver.”

Following Ghana’s exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they finished third in Group B with only two points from three games, Chris Hughton was relieved of his duties as head coach.

With the March international window approaching, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is actively searching for a suitable replacement for the Irish trainer.

Speaking at a press conference held in Kumasi, Addo refuted claims suggesting that the GFA has been uncooperative or unfriendly towards the media since its inception.

He emphasised that under the leadership of Kurt Okraku, the GFA has maintained a positive and collaborative relationship with media outlets.

Addo highlighted that the current administration, led by Kurt Okraku, has actively engaged with the media and welcomed their input, noting that several media professionals serve on the GFA’s Executive Council—an unprecedented move aimed at fostering transparency and inclusivity within the association.

“This FA has been more media-friendly than ever! Myself, the President, and more media persons serve on the exco than ever; they are all media persons,” he said.

“If you look at the work we do with the GPL, WGPL, and all our products, we have engaged the media a lot, and a lot more are working closely with the FA. The concept of media officers is all part of the cohesion between the FA and the media.”

Addressing claims that the FA restricts the media from having access to the team, he said the GFA’s actions are not deliberate and that they are only to enforce the laws of tournaments.

“Now to zero in on the Black Stars, when we go to tournaments, there are rules. Take the World Cup for instance. There are rules and if they’re broken, we pay dearly for them.

“This GFA is media friendly and our door is always open to engage the media. We have to organise it within the confines of the competition rules. Also and more importantly, the FA would have to create an environment conducive for coaches and players to thrive at tournaments.”

This is why Kwasi Appiah has been excluded from committee hunting for next Black Stars coach

General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, has revealed that former Black Stars head coach James Kwasi Appiah has been offered a different role in the process of appointing a new Black Stars coach.

Despite his extensive experience, Kwesi Appiah was not included in the Ghana Football Association’s search committee tasked with finding the next Black Stars coach, sparking concerns about the committee’s composition.

Harrison Addo clarified that Kwasi Appiah will still have a say in the decision-making process after the search committee submits their recommendations.

Furthermore, Harrison Addo explained that Kwesi Appiah’s involvement in the decision-making process is due to his position as an executive council member of the FA.

“The committee working to select the coach will submit their report to the executive council,” he revealed during the GFA’s press conference on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.

“As a member of the GFA EXCO, Kwasi Appiah will be part of the deliberations and decision-making before we announce a new coach,” he added.

GFA’s search committee comprises notable figures including Mark Addo, the vice president of the GFA; legal practitioner Kojo Addae Mensah, Group CEO of Databank Group; professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, Director of Coaching Education of the GFA; Ghana football legend Opoku Nti; and William Caesar Kartey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sport.

They were tasked with submitting their report to the GFA by February 2, 2024.

The vacancy for the Black Stars head coach position arose following the dismissal of Chris Hughton.

Hughton’s departure came after a dismal performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where the team failed to secure a single victory and exited the group stage with only two points.

In light of the team’s disappointing showing and the ambition to clinch an AFCON title, the GFA emphasised in a statement the need for a “proven winner” to helm the team.

Additionally, qualities sought in the new coach include demonstrated ability in team reconstruction, organisation, and nurturing young talent, as well as being a disciplinarian and possessing strong leadership and tactical skills.

Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku criticised sports journalists for jeering at the Black Stars players following their elimination from the 2023 African Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.

Several journalists were seen booing the Black Stars after their disappointing group-stage exit from the 2023 AFCON.

The Black Stars squandered a two-goal lead and settled for a 2-2 draw against Mozambique.

Addressing the press during the GFA’s meeting in Kumasi, Kurt Okraku acknowledged the pain of Ghana’s early exit from the AFCON but emphasised that it was inappropriate for journalists to boo the tea

“I share the pain of every Ghanaian on the back of our poor performance by our Black Stars at the AFCON. I also share in the pain of colleague journalists whose lifespan was cut short due to our early exit. But I do not share in the act of booing our players,” Kurt Okraku said at Meet the Press in Kumasi.

He clarified that CAF has initiated an investigation to penalise the GFA for the journalists‘ insubordination and emphasised the importance of preventing such actions from reoccurring in the future.

“As journalists, we have been trained to support and report on our national team. I pray and hope that this singular act will never be repeated.

“That act has now activated CAF to find ways of imposing fines on Ghana. It was a bad one!! And like I said here, the period between our exit and now has seen a lot of sober reflection. If we behave well, we know! If we don’t behave better, we know!! Don’t let us put Ghana in a bad light.”

Reports also indicate that the Mauritanian Federation is exploring the possibility of appointing Spanish trainer Aritz Lopez Garay as a potential replacement if Abdou decides to leave his current position.

Abdou achieved notable success with Mauritania, leading them to their best-ever AFCON campaign, where they reached the Round of 16 for the first time and secured a historic victory over Algeria.

Previously, he guided Comoros in their maiden AFCON appearance in 2021, defeating Ghana in the group stage before exiting in the Round of 16.

The Ghana Football Association sees Abdou as a suitable replacement for Chris Hughton, who led Ghana to the knockout stage of the group at the 2023 AFCON.

In the meantime, the GFA has established a five-member committee tasked with selecting a coach within the next two weeks.

  • Stop sacking Black Stars coaches; your inefficiency is the problem – Speaker Bagbin tells GFA

Stop sacking Black Stars coaches; your inefficiency is the problem – Speaker Bagbin tells GFA

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has asserted that the dismissal of coaches from the senior national football team, the Black Stars, is not a comprehensive solution for addressing the team’s recent lackluster performances.

The Speaker shared his thoughts on the continuous dismissal of coaches after poor performances during a formal address to Parliament at the commencement of the first meeting of the fourth session today, February 6, 2024.

This statement comes in the wake of the Black Stars’ disappointing third-place finish in Group B at the ongoing 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, where they failed to secure a victory, including a loss to Cape Verde and draws with Egypt and Mozambique.

Subsequently, head coach Chris Hughton was terminated, and the entire technical team was disbanded.

Mr. Bagbin stressed the importance of adopting a holistic strategy to tackle the challenges facing Ghana’s football, indicating that simply changing coaches may not be sufficient to address underlying issues affecting the team’s performance.

“The Black Stars and their handlers must know that they represent more than just a football team. They are a symbol of our national pride, cohesion and resilience.

“They must therefore endeavour to rise from the ashes of these setbacks and demonstrate to the world the true power of Ghana’s football. It is high time we huddled together to discuss the current state of Ghana’s football and consider a comprehensive strategy for the future.

“The sacking of coaches is not the panacea for the challenges, we must evaluate the football infrastructure, youth development programmes, coaching standards and administrative structures to identify areas for improvements,” he stated.

The search for the new Black Stars coach is ongoing, with a strong push for Ghanaian coaches to take on the role.

Advocates believe there is a pool of talented coaches within Ghana capable of leading the Black Stars.

When the coaching vacancy was announced, several Ghanaian coaches, including Maxwell Konadu, expressed their interest in the position. Maxwell Konadu, a former Asante Kotoko coach, applied for the job last week, aspiring to fulfil his dream of coaching the national team.

Konadu previously served as an assistant to Kwasi Appiah in 2012 and worked with him during the 2013 AFCON in South Africa and the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Following Kwasi Appiah’s dismissal in September 2014, Konadu took over as the Black Stars’ acting coach, successfully guiding the team to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

He later served as Avram Grant’s assistant until Grant’s termination after the 2017 AFCON.

Coach Kwasi Appiah’s reappointment as head coach saw Konadu continue as part of the coaching staff alongside Ibrahim Tanko.

Additionally, Konadu was a member of Milovan Rajevac’s technical team during the 2021 AFCON, where the team exited at the group stage.

    Michael Osei

The former Asante Kotoko player has confirmed that he has applied for the Black Stars, as he believes that his time is now.

“Yes, I have applied for the job because I believe that with everything I’ve learned, I am capable of coaching the squad.

“Looking at the team, there are a number of young players like Majeed Ashimeru, Enerst Nuamah, Osman Bukari, and many of the current players who I have coached at the U23 level alongside coach Ibrahim Tanko.

“I’ve been coaching in Ghana for about 12 years, totalling nearly 15 years of coaching experience. Ghana is also my home country, so I understand the culture, have the expertise, and believe now is the time to coach the squad and I’m always a winner.”

Michael Osei, who has previously managed clubs such as Asante Kotoko and Liberty Professionals and served as an assistant at FSV Frankfurt II, submitted his application for the coaching position.

His most recent coaching role was with Bibiani Goldstars. The deadline for submitting applications, which was set for February 2, 2024, has now passed.

GFA officials don’t even support ‘poor’ Ghanaian teams – Kwesi Pratt alleges

In the aftermath of the Black Stars’ disappointing exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), seasoned commentator and political analyst, Kwesi Pratt, has raised eyebrows about the commitment of Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials to national teams.

The Ghanaian national football team’s underwhelming performance in the AFCON tournament has sparked criticism and introspection.

Kwesi Pratt, known for his candid opinions, expressed his skepticism during a recent interview, suggesting that some GFA officials may not genuinely support teams representing Ghana.

The AFCON exit has prompted calls for a comprehensive review of the country’s football structure, from grassroots development to national team management.

Kwesi Pratt also raised a pertinent question about the allegiance of Ghana Football Association (GFA) officials, asserting that their preference for international teams like Chelsea may be indicative of a broader issue affecting the nation’s football landscape.

Mr Pratt expressed his conviction that if GFA officials were asked about their favorite teams, they would likely mention renowned international clubs rather than local teams.

“Our focus is on foreign football, and this raises concerns about how we can excel in nurturing and promoting our national teams,” he remarked.

The veteran commentator emphasized the need for a more localized approach in the development and support of Ghanaian football. Pratt voiced his concerns over the composition of the Black Stars team, urging for a reflection of Ghana’s identity in the coaching staff, players, and overall team culture.

“GFA officials I am sure when you ask them which team they support they will mention international teams like Chelsea and the likes. Our focus is on foreign football, how can we excel in our team. The BlackStars team should reflect in the coaches, the players etc. They are some players who don’t eat Ghanaian foods or even speak Ghanaian language. How can such individuals play Ghana National team. All the AFCON cups Ghanaians has secured was as a result of the Ghanaian coaches we had,” he added.

He expressed dismay over certain players who may not be connected to their Ghanaian roots, citing instances where some do not consume Ghanaian foods or speak the local language.

“How can such individuals truly represent the Ghana National team?” Mr Pratt questioned, emphasizing the importance of cultural and national identity in the context of international sports representation.

Drawing a historical perspective, Pratt underscored the contribution of Ghanaian coaches in securing past Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) victories.

“All the AFCON cups Ghanaians have secured were as a result of the Ghanaian coaches we had,” he asserted, highlighting the success achieved under local coaching expertise.

In the meantime, fans and analysts have urged the GFA to address systemic issues, implement reforms, and prioritize the nurturing of talent to restore Ghana’s football glory.

Songo, a sports critic made this known when he announced that his side had gotten approval from the Ghana Police Service to stage the protest.

“Finally, finally Ghana, we have gotten police approval. The dress code is black, and on Wednesday, February 20, 2024. We are thronging the streets at exactly 9 a.m. #SaveGhanafootball. AFCON budget wasn’t approved, GFA failed to show up for questioning in Parliament – Ablakwa

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed a significant mistake in how Ghana’s participation in the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast was handled.

Surprisingly, the $8.5 million budget for the event was not approved by Parliament before the national team took part.

Ghana’s disappointing exit from the AFCON, not making it past the group stage for the second time, is now coupled with the discovery that proper parliamentary procedures were not followed.

It seems both the Sports Ministry and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) didn’t fulfil their duty to go before Parliament to explain and defend the budget, as required by law.

Mr. Ablakwa, speaking on Luv FM, pointed out the strange behaviour of the Sports Ministry and the GFA. He mentioned that their hesitance to present the budget raised suspicions among members of Parliament.

According to him, their reasons were weak, and attempts to get information about the allocated funds for AFCON were met with resistance.

Route for demo against GFA scheduled to be announced at 2pm today

A consortium of sports journalists has obtained approval from the Ghana Police Service to stage a demonstration against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, addressing concerns about the declining standards of football in Ghana.

Citi Sports has verified that the Ghana Police Service will issue an official statement at 14:00 GMT today, revealing details about the demonstration route.

Among the prominent members of the group are esteemed sports journalists Veronica Commey, Saddick Adams, and Patrick Osei Agyemang.

Commey expressed her frustrations regarding the deteriorating state of Ghanaian football during a segment on Citi FM’s Sports Panorama.

Scheduled for Wednesday, February 14, the demonstration aims to voice discontent over the current state of football in Ghana and is set to transpire in the capital, Accra.

According to Saddick Adams, the event is “a peaceful walk to present a petition” that the passion of the nation—football—is dying and that “there is no hate” but a “positive anger” to change the state of affairs.

The planned demonstration comes on the heels of Ghana’s first-round exit from the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, which had the Black Stars fail to win a game in three outings.

  • Keep barking, I will still demand accountability – Ablakwa replies GFA official over 2023 AFCON budget

Keep barking, I will still demand accountability – Ablakwa replies GFA official over 2023 AFCON budget

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has noted that he will continue to make public the unethical actions on the part of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) irrespective of the criticism he is subjected to.

In an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, an Executive Council member of the GFA, Nana Oduro Sarfo said Mr Ablakwa needed to stop meddling in cheap political commentary and focus on his mandate to influence policymaking.

Mr Oduro Sarfo said this while reacting to Samuel Okudzeto Ablawa’s expose on the Sports Ministry’s budget for AFCON 2023.

In a social media post, the NDC MP published an official government document that showed the country allocated in excess of $8.5m for the tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.

Speaking on Asempa FM on Tuesday, Oduro Sarfo first claimed that the MP made the document public as a diversionary tactic.

Nana Oduro Sarfo, an Executive Council member of the GFA

“He should concentrate on his job of passing bills in Parliament and stop engaging in small, small cheap politics in football,” he said.

In response via a post on X, Mr Ablakwa described Mr Sarfo’s actions as barking while indicating that nothing will stop him from demanding full accountability.

“A certain GFA official says I have no right to expose their unconscionable and lootocratic US$8.5million Black Stars budget. He can rave, bark, howl, growl, roar and rant but nothing will stop me from demanding full accountability,” he wrote.

Mr Ablakwa earlier revealed that the GFA made a budget of $8.5million for the Black Stars as they participate in the 2023 AFCON tournament despite being aware of the fact that the winner of the tournament will be given $7 million.

For Mr Ablakwa, such insensitivity by the government cannot be allowed to continue when many including victims of the Akosombo dam spillage continue to suffer due to neglect by the government.

“When as a Member of Parliament I see thousands of my beloved constituents go to bed each night in tents because of VRA’s catastrophic spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong dams, and when after 5 long months government and VRA callously claim they don’t have money to construct resettlement homes for my people; good conscience cannot permit me to be silent and watch evil triumph.

“Our fellow compatriots including women, the aged and children would not have to live in tents donated by the US government and the Red Cross if they had GHS105million to replace their damaged homes. My beloved constituents have done nothing wrong to deserve this; rather, they are going through all these suffering, indignity and destitution so the Akosombo and Kpong dams would be preserved for the entire nation to enjoy electricity.

“This struggle is about JUSTICE and no one can intimidate us. I salute the group of courageous and patriotic sports journalists who have today formally notified the police of their intention to demonstrate on the 14th of February, 2024. My displaced persons and I shall be joining this protest. We shall remain resolute and relentless in the pursuit of justice, probity, transparency and accountability,” he wrote.
