I felt like I was in a witch camp at point – Roselyn Mantey on GWR makeup marathon experience

Ghanaian makeup artist and Guinness World Record holder, Roselyn Akosua Mantey, has opened up about the harsh conditions she endured during her Guinness World Record (GWR) makeup marathon attempt.

In an interview on MX24 on March 3, 2026, she explained that the prolonged hours of work took a serious toll on her body and mind, especially during the night sessions.

“At night, it felt like I was in a witch camp. I still had to do the job. My assistant fainted, I got poisoned along the line because of the water and drinks I was taking in between, it was very challenging,” she disclosed.

Roselyn further revealed that exhaustion at some point affected her vision and concentration, but she was determined to press on in line with the strict guidelines governing the challenge.

“At a point, I was hallucinating, and I didn’t see anything. The rules tell you that even if you’re tired or you want to sip water, one hand shouldn’t stop working. I would be using one hand to sip water, and the other hand was working. At a point, I couldn’t see,” she recounted.

According to her, the attempt was undertaken at a time when public interest in marathon-style record attempts had waned due to earlier disappointments.

“At that point, where Ghanaians were not interested in the marathon because there was so much disappointment coming here and there, so mine was just a few circles. I’m happy, the outcome was awesome, and I made it,” she added.

Despite the difficulties, Roselyn said she is proud of the outcome, describing the achievement as a significant milestone in her career.

Celebrity Chef Hilda Baci reached a culinary milestone by preparing the biggest pot of jollof rice in a Guinness World Record attempt.

According to Reports by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), she completed the exercise on Saturday, September 13, cooking about 200 bags of rice in a 22,619-litre pot, measuring six metres wide and six metres tall, in about nine hours.

Reacting to this, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the effort was another demonstration of Nigeria’s global excellence.

He gave the commendation through Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, the Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, at the event venue.

“We encourage more young Nigerians to channel their creativity and talents into ventures that will not only benefit them personally but also contribute to national development and global recognition,” he said.

Adding that her record attempt would inspire a new generation and creatives.

In 2023, the Guinness World Record (GWR) committee said on social media that the Nigerian Chef has been officially recognised as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon.

Nearly a month after the GWR had looked through the four-day cookathon’s video, the record had been established.

An adjudicator who only went by the name Mark made the announcement in a video uploaded on the official Twitter account of the Guiness World Records on Tuesday. “I can now announce that with a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes, Hilda Baci is the new holder for the Guiness world Records title of the longest cooking marathon,” he said.

The 26-year-old cooked in a makeshift kitchen for four days, starting on Thursday, May 11, and finishing on Monday, May 15, producing almost 100 pots of food, GWR said on its website.

“When I found out, I cried, prayed and screamed,” Bassey told CNN after learning of her record-breaking feat.

“Then I called my mum and we cried some more. I am so happy. Everything and all the hard work was worth it. I said I wanted to be a record holder and now I am. This is for all my team members and for all the hard work,” Bassey added.

Although Bassey cooked for 100 hours, she was penalized for an error in her scheduled rest breaks, according to the world record committee.

“There was a miscalculation when it came to Hilda’s rest breaks, meaning we are unable to award the 100 hours claimed,” the adjudicator said.

The longest cookathon title was previously held by Indian chef Lata Tondon, who cooked for 87 hours and 45 minutes in 2019.

Basey’s record attempt made her star and was so popular that it crashed the GWR site for two days, “due to the immense volume of traffic we received from her legion of loyal fans,” the organization said.

“I also want to thank Nigerians. They are so awesome. The support was so great. We really did something amazing,” Bassey said.

Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum, the Ghanaian women’s rights advocate, journalist, and event organizer, on Friday concluded her captivating singing marathon Guinness World Record attempt after an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes.

In a Facebook post on December 30, Mr Ablakwa noted that he is excited a courageous woman would step up to break a world record and in so doing, unite Ghanaians.

He wrote: “It’s such a great feeling when a fellow Ghanaian breaks a world record and sets her own record in the process — more so, when it’s a feat achieved by an exceptionally courageous woman from a relatively small country of 32 million people, breaking the Guiness World Record set by Sunil Waghmare, a man from a mighty 1.4billion populated India.

“The patriotic and unifying support from all Ghanaians regardless of artificial strictures must be highly commended. That is testament that when we come together, we are unstoppable and unbreakable.

“I wish Afua Asantewaa a successful reign — may she bring more glory to herself and our dear nation, and become an ambassador of great renown.”

While the verification process from Guinness World Record judges is still pending, Ghanaians are anxiously awaiting the official statement.

The suspense intensified when a Ghanaian named Abrantie Kwasi Gyamfi tagged the awarding body in a Facebook post, prompting them that Ghana is ready to join the ranks.

In response, Guinness World Records conveyed:

“Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are aware of Afua Aduonum’s feat, and we eagerly await the evidence to officially crown her as the world’s new individual singing marathon champion.”

“Hi Abrantie, we look forward to receiving evidence, this event certainly seems to have captured the public’s imagination.”

    Below is Ablakwa’s congratulatory message.

Even though my attention has been focused on supervising the rapid construction of resettlement homes for my beloved displaced constituents, I wish to take a moment to congratulate the inspirational Afua Asantewaa Aduonum on her historic sing-a-thon journey.

It’s such a great feeling when a fellow Ghanaian breaks a world record and sets her own record in the process — more so, when it’s a feat achieved by an exceptionally courageous woman from a relatively small country of 32 million people, breaking the Guiness World Record set by Sunil Waghmare, a man from a mighty 1.4billion populated India.

My GWR attempt was a transformative experience – Chef Faila

Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul Razak, widely known as Chef Faila, recently expressed her views on her attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the Longest Cooking Marathon by an individual. Despite not achieving the record, she considers the experience a major turning point in her career.

In January 2024, Chef Faila dedicated an impressive 227 hours over ten days to prepare more than 200 meals, primarily for orphans and those in need. Unfortunately, her efforts were met with disqualification from the Guinness World Records (GWR) due to technical violations.

Speaking at the launch of her new cookbook, Authentic Ghanaian Cuisine, at the Accra Tourist Information Centre on September 2, 2024, Chef Faila reflected on how the GWR endeavor provided her with crucial exposure and opportunities to further her goals. She noted that before this experience, she was just a passionate young woman from Northern Ghana, aspiring to make a difference in her community.

“The marathon attempt was transformative for me,” she shared. “While I didn’t break the record, the visibility and connections I gained have been invaluable.” Chef Faila has since forged relationships with influential individuals and organizations that support her mission to tackle teenage pregnancy and rural-urban migration in Northern Ghana.

The chef highlighted that the aftermath of the event allowed her to connect with key stakeholders who share her commitment to community development. “I’ve been fortunate to present my proposals for community support to those who can effect real change,” she explained.

Looking forward, Chef Faila plans to launch a culinary school aimed at empowering young girls in Northern Ghana. She believes that education and skill development are essential for unlocking the potential of youth in her region. “By teaching culinary arts, I can offer these girls valuable skills and a positive alternative to early marriage and migration to urban areas,” she emphasized.

The culinary school will focus on traditional Northern Ghanaian dishes with modern adaptations, along with entrepreneurship and business management training. It will also provide mentorship and networking opportunities for the students.

As for future attempts at the GWR, Chef Faila has no immediate plans. She is committed to her culinary school project and is content with making a positive impact in her community for the time being.

Key deceptions revealed in Chef Smith’s interview with Serwaa Amihere

Chef Smith‘s deception extended far beyond fabricating his Guinness World Record cook-a-thon certificate. In an extensive interview with Serwaa Amihere on Saturday, July 6, 2024, he confessed to a series of shocking lies and elaborate schemes.

Appearing visibly remorseful, Chef Smith disclosed the intricate details of his elaborate plot to deceive the entire nation with a staged cooking marathon. Among the deceitful actions, he admitted to several key deceptions:

    Guinness World Records Application:
Chef Smith confessed that he never actually applied for the Guinness World Records Longest Cooking Marathon. Despite appearing to follow the proper channels, he revealed that Guinness World Records was unaware of his cooking attempt. He studied their procedures but did not submit an official application, misleading Ghanaians into believing otherwise.

Forged Certificate from the International Master Chef’s Club:
A certification prominently displayed on Chef Smith’s social media, purportedly from the International Master Chef’s Club, was confirmed by him to be forged. He admitted to fabricating the certificate, acknowledging that he is not a member of the club.

    Using Adu Safowaa’s Reference Number:
In a startling revelation, Chef Smith confessed to modifying Adu Safowaa’s reference number to create a fraudulent one for his Guinness World Records application. He altered her reference code without her knowledge, using it as the basis for his own application.

    Mismanagement of Donation Funds:
Chef Smith revealed that donations were made for his alleged Guinness World Record attempt. Sponsors financed expenses and expected to recoup their investment through donations sent via mobile money and bank accounts. However, there has been no update on the status of these funds, raising concerns about their management.

Chef Smith also cited financial struggles from his regular job, earning between GH₵1,500 to GH₵2,000 at times, as motivation for his fraudulent actions. His revelations have sparked widespread controversy and condemnation across social media.

Additionally, Chef Smith earlier claimed at a press conference in Accra that he holds the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon, citing a remarkable duration of 802 hours and 25 minutes. However, verification with Guinness World Records (GWR) revealed that the certificate presented by Chef Smith was not authentic. GWR clarified that the current record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual) is Alan Fisher, with a duration of 119 hr 57 min 16 sec.

In his interview, Chef Smith admitted to forging the certificate and acknowledged that GWR was unaware of his claim to the record. He apologized, expressing deep remorse and begging the nation for forgiveness: “I render a very big apology on this big platform, and I apologize to the world that I am so sorry. I don’t deserve to live. But in my quest to earn a living, it has landed me this way. I am sorry, and I beg the entire nation,” he expressed.

Ghanaians are turning the gun on GHOne TV presenter Serwaa Amihere for what they describe as “heartless” interview with embattled Chef Ebenezer Smith.

Ebenezer Smith, also known as Chef Smith, recently confessed in an interview to fabricating a Guinness World Record certificate.

He admitted to modifying a certificate found online from the Guinness World Records website, inserting his own details into it.

Chef Smith, who had long cited inspiration from Guinness World Records, explained, “They have numerous certificates on their website, so I simply chose one and edited it with my own name.”

He also clarified that he is not affiliated with the Ghana Chef Association or any other professional body, stating,
“I’m not a member of the Ghana Chef Association. I do not belong to any organization. Everything is fake and a lie.”

Although Chef Smith remorsefully went on his knees and in tears apologised to Ghanaians on live TV, the host Serwaa Amihere seem unfazed.

This display of sensitivity from Serwaa Amihere has left many questioning if she has the moral authority to interview Chef Smith giving the fact that she has been in the news in recent times for having affair with a married man a day after his wedding.

Serwaa Amihere even went to question the very existence of Chef Smith asking “What about your life is real”?

Chef Smith watched on remaining silent.

This revelation follows a statement from Guinness World Records (GWR), which confirmed they were unaware of any attempt by Chef Smith to set a record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Madalyn Biefield, GWR’s Public Relations Manager, clarified, “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold a GWR title, and that certificate is not authentic.”

Mr. Agbovi, the General Secretary of the Chefs Association, expressed disappointment over the fake certificate and unauthorized use of their logo, noting, “You can call him a chef because he is a professional, but he is not a registered member of the Chefs Association of Ghana.”

Chef Smith had recently claimed to have set a record for the longest individual cooking marathon, citing an alleged confirmation email from Guinness World Records (GWR), but GWR has refuted any record attempt or confirmation.

The incident has sparked public outrage and scrutiny following the revelation of the likely fraudulent certificate.

Ghanaian Chef, Ebenezer Smith, popularly known as Chef Smith, whose recent Guinness World Record attempt has transformed into a murky scandal has offered an unqualified apology to Ghanaians for the quick stunt he attempted.

He declared himself the new Guinness World Record title holder for the longest individual cooking marathon, claiming to have achieved a time of 802 hours and 25 minutes.

Chef Smith made the announcement during a press conference at La Palm Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

It was later realised that Chef Smith sought to pull a fast one on the public after Guinness World Records (GWR) refuted Chef Smith’s claim of holding the longest cooking marathon title, declaring the certificate he presented as fake.

Madalyn Bielfield, the PR Manager for Guinness World Records, confirmed that the current record holder is Alan Fisher from Ireland, not Chef Smith.

“No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title and that is not our certificate,” Bielfield stated, affirming the doubts raised by many regarding the authenticity of the certificate displayed by Chef Smith.

Following the embarrassment, Chef Smith has publicly apologised to Ghanaians, making particular mention of the former First Lady Lordina Mahama, the president, among others, following the controversy surrounding his Guinness World Record attempt.

In a video making waves on social media, Chef Smith, who was on his knees wailing, admitted to the evil act he sought to commit against the entire country.

“I have committed a great sin and I don’t even deserve to live anymore but please forgive me and my entire family. I have sinned against the entire nation,” he said in Twi.

According to him, he went ahead to attempt breaking the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, albeit he did not get approval from the Guinness World Record.

“I registered but I wasn’t approved. I just wanted an opportunity to show the world the talent God has given me. I wanted the opportunity to show the world my passion for cooking and get fame. I am sorry,” he said amidst tears.

Chef Smith was arrested for fraud amidst the controversy but has been released.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Chef Smith is not to be a registered member of the Chefs Association of Ghana.

This disclosure came from Peter Agbovi, the General Secretary of the association, further complicating Chef Smith’s standing in the culinary community.

While acknowledging Chef Smith’s professional status, Agbovi clarified, “You can call him a chef because he is a professional, but he is not a registered member of the Chefs Association of Ghana.”

Guinness World Record: Another record set in Nigeria as lady crochets for 72 hours non-stop

Chidinma Modupe Okafor has shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest crocheting marathon, clocking in at 72 hours.

During her three-day “crochet-a-thon,” the 30-year-old from Lagos crafted a white dinner gown, breaking the previous record of 34 hours and seven minutes set by Alessandra Hayden (USA) in 2021.

Okafor, who has been crocheting clothes and accessories since childhood, shared that her lifelong passion for the craft, along with a desire to challenge herself both mentally and physically, motivated her to pursue this record.

She told Guinness World Records, “I aim to showcase the artistry and perseverance involved in this craft and promote awareness about crocheting and its benefits.”

Detroit has made history with the launch of Sports Rap Radio, the first all-Black-led sports radio station in the U.S.

Chidinma Modupe Okafor had to crochet nonstop to break the record, moving to the next ball of yarn immediately after finishing the previous one.

As with all “longest marathon” record attempts, Okafor was permitted only two hours of break each day—five minutes per hour of crocheting.

During these brief breaks, she could eat, sleep, use the restroom, or change clothes, but had to continue crocheting for the remaining time.

She recounted, “My preparation for the record attempt involved rigorous training and mental conditioning. It also required physical endurance and strategizing to maintain a consistent pace while minimizing fatigue.

“Additionally, logistics such as arranging for sufficient yarn with support staff were crucial for the uninterrupted progress of the attempt.”

Initially, Okafor planned to crochet a wedding gown, but as exhaustion set in, she opted for a dinner gown instead, explaining, “I couldn’t do extra hours.”

She was inspired by Hilda Baci, a fellow Nigerian who achieved the record for the longest cooking marathon the previous year.

Ghanaian media personality, Afua Asantewaa, known for her attempt at the Guinness World Record(GWR) for the longest singing marathon, has publicly criticized Fella Makafui’s flat tummy products.

She expressed her dissatisfaction, explaining that she intended to purchase only a corset but was persuaded to buy additional belly and arm gels.

In a video shared on social media, Afua mocked the product’s marketing tactics, claiming they mislead customers into buying more than they intend.

She stated, “The way they market the product you may think you are going to buy just a corset and you end up buying belly gel and arm gel. Some of the products are in my house so when I get to Ghana I will do a live video and let you see them. Women are suffering. The products are still there as I speak.”

Ghanaian Chef Faila Abdul Razak has recently shared profound insights into her Guinness World Record (GWR) attempt for the longest cooking marathon, highlighting its impact beyond the culinary realm.

In a recent interview with Berla Mundi on TV3, Chef Faila emphasised that the cook-a-thon, held in the Northern region, transcended being a mere culinary challenge.

She pointed out that it played a significant role in combating drug abuse in the region.

“Before the cook-a-thon, we were combating drug abuse in the Northern region, which was severe at that time. Despite our efforts to steer the youth away from it, the same drug addicts participated in the Cook-a-thon for 24 hours. They refrained from smoking for extended periods because it was prohibited on the premises,” Chef Faila remarked.

She expressed unwavering belief in the importance of her endeavour, stating that even if she had perished during the marathon, it would have been a sacrifice worth making.

“If anyone asked me that question, I would have said it’s worth it. My people would have forever celebrated me for a noble cause. Haven’t our peers died from terminating illegal pregnancies or succumbed to peer pressure for various illegal activities?” she questioned passionately.

Commencing her record attempt on January 1, 2024, Chef Faila dedicated an astonishing 227 hours to cooking.

Despite the bid being unsuccessful due to rest break violations, she received widespread praise and recognition for her dedication.
