That is “unrealistic” – Laporta dispels Messi’s return to Barcelona

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has shot down the “unrealistic” speculations of a possible Messi return.

Lionel Messi, one of the club’s favourite, greatest-ever players and longest-serving modern icon, paid an unannounced visit to the stadium on Sunday, November 9, ahead of his camping in Spain with Argentina and ahead of Camp Nou’s partial reopening this November in their clash against Athletic Club in La Liga.

During his visit, he expressed his desire to return not only to bid farewell to fans and the club officially, but for something more than just a goodbye.

In an Instagram post, he wrote alongside pictures he took at the stadium, “Last night, I returned to a place that I miss with all my heart,” he wrote alongside the images on Monday. It’s a place where I was immensely happy, where you made me feel like the happiest person in the world a thousand times over. I hope that one day I can return, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I never got to do…”

In reaction to this, Laporta has stated that, “Out of the utmost respect for Messi, the professionals at the club, Barca, and the Barca club members, I believe that now, for me to make speculation that is unrealistic, nor do I think it is fair, well, I believe that is not appropriate,” Laporta told Catalunya Radio.

Barcelona moved temporarily to the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc when renovation works began at Spotify Camp Nou in the Summer of 2023.

While it was set to be ready so use in the 2024/25 season, it saw some delays, pushing the reopening to August 2025.

Barcelona are set to return during the 2025/26 La Liga season, though only the lower tiers will be complete. Work on the upper tiers will continue throughout the season.

Messi spent about twenty-one years at Camp Nou. He joined Barcelona’s famous academy at the age of 13, from Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina, between 2000–2004. He made his debut appearance at age 17 when the club played against Spain on October 16, 2004.

Lionel Messi played 778 official matches for Barcelona, scoring a club-record 672 goals, providing 269 assists, and winning 35 major trophies, including 10 La Liga titles, 7 Copa del Rey titles, 4 UEFA Champions League titles, 3 FIFA Club World Cups, 3 UEFA Super Cups, and 8 Spanish Super Cups.

He played his last match in August 2021 vs Celta Vigo, before leaving due to financial constraints at the club, and making a ‘hasty’ exit to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.

His departure wasn’t formally done due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions in place at the time.

Laporta has spoken about a desire to bring Messi back for a tribute game, suggesting it would be the perfect way to inaugurate the new Camp Nou, which has been closed for redevelopment since 2023.

“It would be a great way to open the stadium [when it’s finished], with 105,000 packed in and paying tribute to Leo,” Laporta reiterated to reporters after an open training session in front of 23,000 fans at Camp Nou last week.

“Always, of course, depending on what [the Messi camp] wants. There are also presidential elections before then, but in the case I am still president, I would love that.”

Messi, whose relationship with Laporta cooled following his departure, has never previously commented on the possibility of returning to participate in any such game. Work is still ongoing on Camp Nou.

Barça currently have a license to host games with 25,991 fans present, but hopes to secure a permit to increase that to 45,401 later this month, at which point they will return to the arena, having spent over two years playing at the Olympic Stadium in the city.

However, the third tier still needs to be finished and the roof added. When the refurbishment is completed, which is not anticipated to be until 2027, the capacity will rise to 105,000.

Messi returned to Europe over the weekend after scoring twice on Saturday as third-seeded Inter Miami ousted sixth-seeded Nashville SC in the decisive Game 3 of their first-round Eastern Conference playoff series.

Meanwhile, Messi, speaking at the America Business Forum, held at the Kaseya Centre in Miami, highlighted that winning the title of football’s greatest tournament, the FIFA World Cup, is the highest achievement any player can attain in football.

According to him, he feels fulfilled after leading Argentina to victory in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the memory continues to excite him every time it comes to mind.

The Barcelona icon noted that clinching the Mundial was the perfect way to cap off his footballing career, and nothing more could be asked of him.

“Winning the World Cup is the ultimate achievement. After the World Cup, there’s nothing more you can ask for. It’s hard to explain the feelings from that moment. It’s difficult to find words to describe what that title meant on a personal level, for my family, my teammates, and for the country.

“It was clear how the whole nation celebrated it, the need and desire we all had for that to happen again after such a long time”.

He continued that it was an exceptional experience in his life, having won trophies in his career, but winning the World Cup “completed my entire career with that trophy.”

“…It was special. I had already been lucky enough to achieve everything else before, at club level, individually. That was the one thing missing, the one that completed my entire career with that trophy.”

This comes after his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo rejected the notion that he needs to lead Portugal to a World Cup title to be considered among the greatest players in history.

David Beckham shares cute moments where Messi, Suarez others are ‘always on at him’

David Beckham has shared a playful request he frequently receives from Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets at Inter Miami.

As co-owner of the Herons, the Manchester United legend played a key role in attracting former Barcelona stars to Major League Soccer. With their arrival, Beckham hopes to see them bring MLS Cup success to South Florida.

While he remains actively involved with the club, his role does not extend to stepping onto the pitch—despite regular pleas from Messi, Suarez, and Busquets to join them in training. The former England captain, renowned for his passing and free-kick ability, continues to resist their playful attempts to get him back in action.

Beckham has told Men’s Health: “Do you know what, they’re always on at me, Leo, Luis, Jordi [Alba], Sergio. They will turn around and say, ‘Come on, come on, join in!’” Said requests continue to be knocked back, with head coach Javier Mascherano being left to work without any unnecessary distractions.

Ref requests for Messi’s autograph, faces Concacaf’s wrath over breach of rules

Referee Marco Antonio Ortiz Nava has been disciplined for asking Lionel Messi for an autograph after Inter Miami CF’s win over Sporting Kansas City in the Concacaf Champions Cup on Wednesday night.

After the match, Ortiz Nava approached Messi, appearing to ask for his jersey as a souvenir. However, it was later explained that he actually requested an autograph for a family member with special needs. Despite this, his actions violated Concacaf’s rules for match officials.

“Concacaf is aware of the interaction that occurred between referee Marco Antonio Ortiz Nava and player Lionel Messi immediately following the final whistle of last night’s Concacaf Champions Cup match between Sporting Kansas City and Inter Miami CF,” a Concacaf spokesperson told ESPN in a statement.

“Upon investigation, Concacaf has learned that the referee approached the player to request an autograph for a family member with special needs.

“The referee’s conduct does not align with the Confederation’s Code of Conduct for match officials and existing processes for these types of requests. The referee has acknowledged his mistake, apologized for the incident, and accepted the disciplinary action Concacaf has applied.”

Sporting Kansas City added that the team informed Concacaf and MLS about the situation.

“We informed Concacaf and Major League Soccer about the incident after the match against Inter Miami CF on Wednesday. We await further review of the matter and the action Concacaf will take,” the team said.

Concacaf has not revealed what punishment the referee will face.

Inter Miami won 1-0 against Sporting KC in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup first round on Wednesday, with Messi scoring in the second half.

The match was originally delayed by a day due to a winter storm warning predicting heavy snowfall in Kansas City. Although no snow fell on Wednesday, players had to compete in extremely cold weather. Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano described the conditions as “not human.”

Inter Miami will play Sporting KC again at Chase Stadium on February 25 for the second leg of the series.

Argentina’s Lionel Scaloni says Messi’s plans to play in the 2026 World Cup

Lionel Messi is set to make an appearance at the 2026 World Cup, following an agreement with Argentina’s head coach, Lionel Scaloni.

Scaloni confirmed the development during an interview with DSports, offering fans renewed hope of seeing the football icon on the global stage once again.

Messi, a cornerstone of Argentina’s success, played a crucial role in their World Cup triumph and continues to showcase his exceptional talent despite his age.

After leading Argentina to glory in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, many feared the 37-year-old had played his final World Cup. However, Scaloni’s revelation suggests the legendary forward isn’t done yet.

“The first thing to say is that both Messi and his teammates are aware that there is still a reasonable amount of time left. Messi and the rest of the team want to play in the World Cup.

“But to be sure, you have to let time pass to see how you get there. He knows very well what we think. I’m not worried; the only thing I want is for him to be happy,” he said.

While uncertainty surrounds Messi’s long-term future with Argentina, the immediate priority is securing a spot in the next World Cup.

A crucial double-header against Brazil and Uruguay looms, and victories in both matches would guarantee Argentina’s qualification for the 2026 tournament, set to be hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

This is the Barcelona return plan for Messi – David Beckham details

David Beckham has revealed Lionel Messi’s Barcelona return plan, with Inter Miami resigned to losing the Argentine superstar at some stage.

The MLS outfit, who allowed Messi to go chasing the American dream in 2023, have their talismanic captain tied to a contract through 2025.

That deal includes the option for a 12-month extension that would take in the next World Cup finals, with Herons co-owner Jorge Mas having said of talks there: “Leo and I will sit down to discuss the future. I fully expect that when our new stadium opens in 2026, Leo Messi will be our number 10.”

Messi has, however, never hidden the fact that he intends to retrace steps to Barcelona once his record-setting career comes to a close. Beckham concedes that Florida will be bidding farewell to the Argentine GOAT, with the Manchester United legend saying at the Economic Forum in Davos:

“I would like Messi to live in Miami when he retires, but Leo told me that he only thinks about living near the Camp Nou. There is no player who loves Barcelona as much as he does. You can see the Barca crest on his leg and even on his water bottle.”

Messi still considers Catalunya to be home and wants to return to that part of the world with wife Antonela and their three sons once retirement is reached. He does, however, still have plenty to achieve in the United States prior to that.

Beckham added on working with Messi and Inter Miami’s ambitious plans: “I have always believed in potential. You know, the United States is a powerful country, one of the biggest countries with the best opportunities and you believe in that.

When I moved to the United States, I knew it was a land of opportunity. I knew I wanted to live in the United States at some point and create a business like the one we have done. Now I sit in my chair, in Miami, in that stadium and Leo walks onto the field and I think ‘I’m very proud of that’.”

Inter Miami are currently in pre-season action, as they line up against opponents from across the Americas, and Messi – who savoured MVP honours in MLS last season – is determined to add to his medal collection over the coming months.

Adolfo Bautista ‘attacks’ Messi over goal celebration against Club América

Lionel Messi’s goal celebration in Inter Miami’s 2-2 draw with América de México has caused controversy, as many Mexican fans saw his gesture as disrespectful. The incident has added to the long-standing rivalry between Argentine and Mexican supporters.

Mexican football legend Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista also reacted to the celebration, criticizing Messi’s actions.

During the match at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Messi was constantly booed by Mexican fans. In response, after scoring, he held up three fingers—symbolizing Argentina’s three World Cup wins.

Bautista later shared his thoughts on Instagram. Although he praised Messi’s skills, he questioned his professionalism and attitude.

“I looked up to you as a player. But mocking my country shows a lack of professionalism and education,” Bautista wrote in an Instagram story.

He also included a photo of himself evading Messi during their 2010 World Cup encounter in South Africa, a match Argentina won 3-1 in the round of 16.

  • World’s best: Lamine Yamal ranks second after Messi – Gavi

World’s best: Lamine Yamal ranks second after Messi – Gavi

Barcelona midfielder Gavi has hailed Lamine Yamal as the best player in the world after Lionel Messi, following the teenager’s outstanding performance in the 5-1 Copa del Rey victory against Real Betis on Wednesday.

Yamal was unstoppable, scoring one goal, assisting two others, and having another ruled out for offside. His efforts helped Barcelona secure a spot in Monday’s quarterfinal draw.

At just 17 years old, Yamal has already scored nine goals and provided 13 assists in 24 matches this season, cementing his status as one of football’s brightest talents.

“Yes, he is,” Gavi told reporters when asked if Yamal is already the best player in the game. “Well, after Lionel Messi, he’s the best.”

Yamal, who helped Spain win the European Championship last summer, had an impressive season last year, finishing eighth in the Ballon d’Or rankings.

He also won the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy award, both recognizing the best young player in the world.

The young star has cemented his place in Barcelona’s first team, making over 70 appearances so far. On Wednesday night, he was a constant threat to Betis.

After Gavi scored the opening goal, Yamal delivered a stunning lobbed pass to set up Jules Koundé for Barcelona’s second goal. Yamal created another chance for Koundé, but the goal was disallowed following a lengthy VAR review for offside.

Later in the match, Yamal thought he had scored Barcelona’s third, but VAR ruled it out for offside once again. However, he showcased his brilliance with a solo run from his own box, leading to Raphinha’s goal.

Substitute Ferran Torres added a fourth goal before Yamal finally found the net, finishing confidently after receiving a pass from Fermín López. Vitor Roque, on loan from Barcelona to Betis, scored a late penalty for Betis as a consolation.

“You know, Gavi’s very emotional, so I say yes as well,” Barça coach Hansi Flick said in a news conference when asked if he agreed with Gavi’s take on Yamal. “You can see it. I think in great matches you see big talent and he’s showed it many times. He’s on a really good way. But we have to take care about him.”

Messi nets a brace, leading Inter Miami to victory and the MLS Shield

Lionel Messi, the forward for Inter Miami, played a crucial role in securing the club’s first-ever MLS Supporters’ Shield with two goals in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Columbus Crew.

Messi opened the scoring early with a close-range strike and extended the lead just before halftime with an exquisite free-kick.

Columbus Crew’s Diego Rossi responded by scoring to reduce the deficit, but Inter Miami quickly regained their two-goal advantage with a goal from Luis Suarez, a former Liverpool forward.

Although Cucho Hernandez converted a penalty for the Crew, Miami successfully maintained their lead.

This win guarantees that Inter Miami will finish at the top of the table, marking their first Supporters’ Shield triumph since their establishment in 2020.

With this latest accolade, Messi adds the 46th trophy to his illustrious collection, which includes titles from both club and international competitions.

By securing the top position, Miami has also ensured home-field advantage for the upcoming playoff matches.

“The first objective has been achieved, and now we have to think about what’s next,” said Messi.

“The first round is three games, but then it’s one game and anything can happen. But we have the great advantage of playing all the games at home, which is what we were looking for. We are very strong at home.”

Miami needs two wins from their final two league matches to beat the MLS record for most points in a regular season, which currently stands at the 73 amassed by the New England Revolution in 2021.

Lionel Scaloni expects Lionel Messi to be back in action by October

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has said he is hopeful he will have Lionel Messi available for the World Cup qualifiers in October.

Messi, 37, has not played since sustaining a right ankle injury during the Copa América final against Colombia on July 14.
The Argentina captain recently returned to train with Inter Miami and could feature in Saturday’s MLS game against Philadelphia.

“We hope he starts to play,” Scaloni said of Messi. “When we give the next [squad] list [in October], we will be in contact with him as we do with everyone. Then we will see if he is available to return.”

Argentina strengthened their grip at the top of their qualifying group with a 3-0 win over Chile on Thursday without their all-time leading scorer, Messi.

The World Cup holders are four points clear of Uruguay ahead of Tuesday’s qualifier against Colombia in Barranquilla.

Scaloni is pleased with how the team is responding without Messi.

“It is difficult for a football team not to be dependent on Leo [Messi],” Scaloni said. “It happened in every team he was in, you have a unique footballer.

The good thing about this team is that we have an idea of the game beyond who is on the field, although the performers can change.

Without Leo, we try to do the same, but without that final touch that he has. All the players know what they have to do regardless of who is on the field.”

    Protesters rave Messi’s Ibiza house

Argentina’s President Javier Milei has voiced support for Lionel Messi and his family following an act of vandalism at their Ibiza residence.

Milei has urged the Spanish authorities to ensure the safety of Argentine nationals after climate change activists targeted Messi’s €11 million home, defacing the property with red and black paint.

The vandals also posed in the garden holding a banner written in English that read: “Help the planet. Eat the rich. Abolish the police.”

Milei posted on X: “In Spain, communists who want to “murder the rich and abolish the police to end climate change” vandalized a home of Lionel Messi and his family.

“I stand in solidarity with the Messi family for this cowardly and delusional event and I ask Pedro Sanchez’s government to guarantee the safety of the Argentine citizens who live in the Kingdom of Spain.

“Communism is an ideology fostered by envy, hatred and resentment towards the successful. It has no place in the free and civilized world.”

Lionel Messi, who bought the luxury property in Ibiza in 2022 following his departure from Barcelona, was not present at the time of the vandalism.

He has used the home for vacations on the island.

The activists responsible for the attack described it as “non-violent civil disobedience,” aiming to hold wealthy individuals accountable for the climate crisis and criticize the Spanish government’s inaction.

They also claimed that Messi’s mansion was constructed “illegally.”

Currently, the Inter Miami star is recovering from an ankle injury he sustained during the recent Copa América.

“Unbelievable” – Messi’s cryptic response following Argentina’s Olympics opener against Morocco

Lionel Messi shared a one-word message after Argentina’s Olympic opener against Morocco turned chaotic.

Argentina’s first game of the Paris Olympics ended in a 2-1 loss to Morocco following a tumultuous match in Saint-Etienne.

The Albiceleste equalized in the 16th minute of stoppage time, prompting fans to storm the pitch, leading to a suspension of play for over an hour.

VAR later disallowed the goal for offside, and Morocco maintained their 2-1 lead after the match resumed.

Messi posted on social media after the final whistle. The Argentina legend wrote simple “insolito” which translates to “unbelievable” coupled with a flushed emoji.

The Paris Olympic football tournament got off to a rough start, with incidents of fans throwing objects onto the pitch.

The situation was further marred by the booing of Argentina’s national anthem by the crowd, who appeared to be upset by footage of Enzo Fernandez and his teammates participating in a racist chant during their Copa America celebrations.

Argentina manager Javier Mascherano was also furious after the final whistle. “The biggest circus I’ve ever seen in my life,” he said.

Argentina will on to play Iraq on Saturday in Group B, while Morocco return to action on the same day against Ukraine.

  • Lamine Yamal snubs Messi’s No. 10 shirt for another

Lamine Yamal snubs Messi’s No. 10 shirt for another

Lamine Yamal has reportedly selected a new squad number at Barcelona, opting not to inherit Lionel Messi’s iconic No. 10 jersey.

Barcelona has officially promoted Yamal and Pau Cubarsi to the first-team squad for La Liga after their breakthrough performances in the 2023/24 season.

With this promotion comes the privilege of choosing new kit numbers, a significant milestone in any footballer’s career.

According to Jijantes, Yamal has decided on the No. 19 shirt for the upcoming season, amidst much speculation about whether he would take on Messi’s famous number.

Initially, there were suggestions that Yamal might opt for the No. 17 shirt, recently vacated by Marcos Alonso, who wore No. 27 the previous season.

However, he has surprised many by choosing No. 19, a number he recently wore while representing Spain at UEFA Euro 2024.

The No. 19 jersey holds its own legacy at FC Barcelona, having been worn by notable players such as Franck Kessie, who departed last season, as well as Ferran Torres and Sergio Aguero.

Even Lionel Messi himself wore the No. 19 from 2005 to 2008 before adopting the iconic No. 10.

Another Barcelona legend, Patrick Kluivert, also sported the number during the 1998/99 season.

Yamal’s decision to select this number links him to a history of significant players while allowing him to establish his own identity within the club.

Yamal’s ascent has been remarkable, setting multiple records for his club during the 2023/24 season.

His recent standout performances in Euro 2024, where he played a pivotal role in Spain’s fourth European championship victory, have solidified his status as one of Barcelona’s key players.

However, he will miss Barcelona’s pre-season tour as he takes a well-deserved break following the conclusion of the European championship.

These shades, synonymous with Miami’s vibrant culture and landscape, are seamlessly integrated into the jersey’s fabric, creating a visually stunning look.

Taking cues from the lively 1980s Miami style, Inter Miami’s archive kit collection extends beyond just jerseys to include jackets, Gazelle, and Samba shoes.

Each piece is crafted with bold, progressive designs that appeal to both retro lovers and modern fashion enthusiasts.

The Archive Collection merges various visual styles, incorporating elements from sports broadcasting, vintage advertisements, and nostalgic magazines.

This innovative blend appeals to a new generation of fans who value authenticity and cultural depth.

Inter Miami’s first team will debut the new third kit on Saturday, July 20, in their match against Chicago Fire FC.

‘Now a legend’ – History behind photos of Messi with baby Lamine Yamal

When Joan Monfort photographed a long-haired Lionel Messi with a baby for a charity calendar almost 17 years ago, he sensed the young man would achieve greatness in football. However, he never imagined the baby would follow a similar path.

The infant in the now-viral photos is Lamine Yamal, the Spanish prodigy. At just 16, Yamal is already being hailed as a future star, drawing comparisons to the greats.

He recently became the youngest player to ever represent Spain and made history as the youngest player in the European Championship during the current tournament in Germany.

The long-forgotten photo from 2007 resurfaced after Yamal’s father posted it on Instagram last week with the text: “The beginning of two legends.”

Joan Monfort, a 56-year-old freelance photographer for the Associated Press and others, recalls a photoshoot in the visitors’ locker room at Barcelona’s Camp Nou in the autumn of 2007, when Lamine Yamal was just a few months old.

During this annual charity event organized by the local newspaper Diario Sport and UNICEF, Barcelona players posed with children and their families for a calendar.

Monfort was responsible for the photoshoots, and it was purely by chance that Messi was paired with Lamine Yamal’s family. One of the photos features Messi alongside Lamine Yamal’s mother, who is from Equatorial Guinea, and the baby.

“We made the calendar with the help of Unicef,” Monfort said. “So Unicef did a raffle in the neighbourhood of Roca Fonda in Mataró where Lamine’s family lived. They signed up for the raffle to have their picture taken at the Camp Nou with a Barça player. And they won the raffle.”

It wasn’t an easy assignment, he recalled, mainly because Messi wasn’t sure how to interact with the baby, who was in a plastic tub for the shoot. “Messi is a pretty introverted guy, he’s shy,” Monfort said.

“He was coming out of the locker room and suddenly he finds himself in another locker room with a plastic tub full of water and a baby in it. It was complicated. He didn’t even know how to hold him at first.”

At the time of the photoshoot, Messi was 20 and already recognized as a promising talent, but it would take a few more years for him to establish himself as the most outstanding player of his generation for Barcelona and Argentina.

Lamine Yamal, like Messi, has progressed through Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth academy.

Despite his young age, he has been one of Spain’s standout players at Euro 2024, where Spain will face France in the semi-finals on Tuesday. Yamal will turn 17 on Saturday, the day before the final in Berlin.

Monfort, now 56, didn’t realize it was Lamine Yamal in those 2007 photos until a friend alerted him as the images began trending online.

Monfort, who has had a long career as a sports photographer since 1991, primarily following Barcelona, said he has never seen such excitement around any of his photos before.

“It’s very exciting to be associated with something that has caused such a sensation,” he said. “To tell you the truth it’s a very nice feeling.”

Video: Emi Martinez ‘rescues’ Messi from trolls, after saving 2 penalties following the GOAT’s miss

Emi Martinez saved two crucial penalties, ensuring Argentina’s progression to the Copa America semifinals despite Lionel Messi’s struggles. Argentina has yet to find their peak form in the tournament.

La Albiceleste have often appeared disjointed, a far cry from their World Cup-winning days.

However, Thursday evening saw them scrape through with a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Ecuador, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Lionel Messi had a tough match, failing to make a significant impact and missing a penalty.

Yet, his teammates stepped up, with Emi Martinez’s heroics in the shootout proving decisive.

Argentina took the lead after 35 minutes when Lisandro Martinez headed in from a well-executed corner.

Enzo Fernandez had a chance to double the lead before halftime but narrowly missed.

It seemed Argentina would secure the win in regular time, but Kevin Rodriguez’s late header pushed the game to penalties.

Although Messi missed Argentina’s first spot-kick, Emi Martinez’s saves and successful conversions from the rest of La Albiceleste ensured their place in the semifinals for the fifth consecutive time.

Messi displays birthday cake during celebration with Argentina teammates

Lionel Messi recently marked his 37th birthday while participating in the Copa America tournament.

During his time away on international duty, he shared a jovial moment with his teammates, posing alongside a birthday cake in a photo posted on Instagram.

Among those present to celebrate with him were Cristian Romero, Rodrigo de Paul, and veteran players Angel Di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi.

Earlier, Messi received a generous gift of a large bottle of Argentinean wine from Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham.

As he aims for Copa America success, Messi and the Argentine national team kicked off their campaign with a strong 2-0 victory over Canada in the group stage.

Messi said in his caption: “Thank you so much for all the greetings and congratulations!! Another year that coincides with my birthday being with the National Team… So celebrating a little bit more and we keep getting ready for our next game. Hugs!”

While Lionel Messi celebrated his 37th birthday amidst Copa America duties, he isn’t the eldest member of Argentina’s squad. Franco Armani, the backup goalkeeper, holds that distinction, having turned 37 last October.

Next in their Copa America journey, Argentina faces Chile on June 25, following a modest start with a 0-0 draw against Peru.

Messi and his teammates aim for a stronger performance after securing a hard-fought victory over Canada, with the decisive goal coming in the 88th minute.

Fans shocked as Messi speaks English in Bad Boys movie trailer

Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi has set social media ablaze on May 28 after a video of him speaking English surfaced on X (formerly Twitter).

Widely regarded as the world’s best footballer, Messi is known for his preference for Spanish, having spent most of his professional career in Spain, Argentina, and a few years in Paris.

Even at international events like the FIFA awards and Ballon d’Or ceremonies, the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) typically avoids speaking English.

However, in a surprising twist, Messi was heard speaking a two-line English sentence in a trailer for “Bad Boys,” an American movie.

This rare occurrence has taken the internet by storm, with fans expressing their astonishment.

American actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, stars of the “Bad Boys” franchise, interacted with Messi, leading to this unexpected revelation.

One fan exclaimed, “Did Lionel Messi just speak English?” while another noted, “Leo Messi spoke in English for the first time.”

Messi’s newfound English proficiency could be influenced by his current tenure with Inter Miami, a Major League Soccer team in the United States, suggesting he is learning the language to better integrate with his American surroundings.

Interestingly, Messi’s English-speaking abilities are not entirely new.

According to a UK news portal, Joe.co.uk, his Inter Miami teammate Julian Gressel recounted his surprise at hearing Messi speak fluent English during a game.

On the Player Manager podcast, Gressel shared: “Between me and Leo, we’ve had this running joke since the first few days. I asked him if he speaks any English, and he said, ‘no, not really, your Spanish is probably better than my English.’ But then, during a game, he spoke to me in English.”

Gressel continued: “Messi covered his mouth to avoid cameras and instructed me in English, saying, ‘now, we change. You stay, and Jordi (Alba) runs, Jordi goes more in behind.’ Afterward, he joked, ‘English, pretty good, no?’ I was like, ‘yes, very, very good! I understood everything!’”

Messi’s English revelation has provided a new dimension to his already legendary status, showcasing his adaptability and commitment to his current role in the American soccer landscape.

‘What a bad streak’ – Sevilla boss blasts Barca on how it treats its legends

Sevilla manager Quique Sanchez Flores has criticized Barcelona for their treatment of club “legends” like Xavi, Ronald Koeman, and Lionel Messi.

Barcelona announced Xavi’s dismissal on Friday, despite previously urging him to remain in his position, marking the latest twist in an embarrassing saga for the Catalan giants.

Xavi, who became a club legend by winning La Liga eight times and the Champions League four times as a player, also led the team to a La Liga title in 2022/23 and a second-place finish this season as a manager.

Koeman experienced a similar fate to Xavi. As Barcelona’s highest-scoring defender ever, the Dutchman won the Copa del Rey and secured a third-place finish in La Liga, only to be dismissed at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Messi’s departure was equally poignant, as he left in tears to join Inter Miami in the United States.

Sanchez Flores told reporters: “I shouldn’t say this… but how badly Barcelona treats its legends. What a bad streak. It’s probably a bad streak, but what a bad streak. What a bad streak.

“With Koeman, with Messi, with Xavi now, how bad. I wish clubs treated their legends well, fantastically well. That would be fantastic. That is a legacy of connection from the managers to the fans. This connects a lot. Treating legends well.”

Barcelona are set to name former Germany manager Hansi Flick as Xavi’s successor. The official announcement is anticipated next week.

Luis Rubiales tried to divert funds to Messi, Gerard Pique during COVID pandemic – Reports

Former RFEF president Luis Rubiales allegedly attempted to allocate UEFA funds to Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique during the COVID pandemic.

According to The Objective, Rubiales engaged in video conferences with UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and Barcelona stars Messi and Pique over a three-month period to explore the possibility of using broadcasting rights revenue from UEFA matches to assist players facing financial hardships due to the pandemic.

It was suggested that four percent of these rights could be diverted to aid players who had undergone pay cuts as a result of the pandemic.

Messi reportedly emphasized the importance of maintaining confidentiality during the discussions, fearing potential backlash if details were to emerge.

The global lockdown measures implemented during the pandemic led to the suspension of football activities and resulted in many players accepting salary reductions.

At the time, Messi confirmed that Barcelona players would take a 70% pay cut to support the club in mitigating financial losses caused by the pandemic.

The Objective further reveals that leaked messages and audio recordings indicate Rubiales proposed redirecting funds to players who had experienced salary cuts directly to Ceferin.

Subsequently, the four individuals engaged in a four-hour video call to deliberate on the matter and continued to exchange messages thereafter.

As reported by AS, Rubiales allegedly told Ceferin: “I say it is important for us to have Messi and the rest with us. There is no need to spend money. We just change where the funds go.”

Rubiales also suggested Pique and Messi send a signed Barcelona shirt to Ceferin “as a token of gratitude”.

The discussions between Rubiales and the Barcelona players occurred between April and May of 2020, coinciding with the Catalan club’s resumption of La Liga action in June.

Despite their return to the field, Barcelona faced significant financial challenges, as evidenced by their announcement of a €97 million (£88m/$114m) loss at the end of the financial year due to the impact of COVID.

Ultimately, Messi departed the club a year later to join PSG, as Barcelona was unable to afford a new contract for the superstar.

  • Auction for Messi’s Barca napkin begins in UK; current hits £220k

Auction for Messi’s Barca napkin begins in UK; current hits £220k

The auction for the napkin that famously kickstarted Lionel Messi’s career at Barcelona when he was just 13 years old has commenced this week, with an estimated price range of £300,000–£500,000 ($374,700–$624,500).

Current bidding for the item has reached £220,000, and the auction, hosted by the British auction house Bonhams, will remain open until May 17.

Originally scheduled for March, the auction was delayed due to a dispute over the ownership of the napkin, which has been in the possession of Horacio Gaggioli, an Argentine agent, for the past two decades.

Josep Minguella, another adviser involved in Messi’s transfer to Barcelona, has also laid claim to the napkin after news broke of its auction earlier this year.

Gaggioli disputed this, while Bonhams told ESPN there were “no problems” regarding the sale of the napkin, which is listed on their website as “property of Horacio Gaggioli.”

Minguella has yet to respond to ESPN’s request for comment. The story dates back to 2000 when Lionel Messi’s father, Jorge, began to express doubts about Barcelona’s commitment to his son’s development. At that time, Carles Rexach, the club’s director of football, hastily arranged an agreement on a napkin.

This impromptu contract was signed by Rexach, Minguella, who played a role in bringing Messi to Barcelona from South America, and Gaggioli, who facilitated the deal. It served as a promise for Messi’s first professional contract.

Since then, the napkin has been kept by Gaggioli in a secure vault in Andorra, a principality located north of Barcelona between Spain and France. Attempts to negotiate its inclusion in Barcelona’s museum at the Camp Nou stadium have fallen through in the past.

The agreement on the napkin was made on December 14, 2000, at a tennis club in Barcelona after Rexach received an urgent call from Jorge Messi, threatening to take his son back to Argentina.

“That was when, thinking on my feet, I decided everything,” Rexach told ESPN in 2020 to mark the 20th anniversary of the signing.

“Why a napkin? Because it was the only thing I had available to hand. I saw the only way to relax Jorge was signing something, giving him some proof, so I asked for a napkin from the waiter.

“I wrote: ‘In Barcelona, on December 14, 2000 and in the presence of Messrs Minguella and Horacio, Carles Rexach, FC Barcelona’s sporting director, hereby agrees, under his responsibility and regardless of any dissenting opinions, to sign the player Lionel Messi, provided that we keep to the amounts agreed upon.’

“I told Jorge that my signature was there and that there were witnesses, that with my name I would take direct responsibility, that there was nothing else to talk about and to be patient for a few days because Leo could already consider himself a Barca player.”

Inter Miami has had a successful season so far, with a record of 6-2-3 in Major League Soccer play, currently holding the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Messi’s recent performance for Inter Miami has been remarkable, with two goals and an assist in their recent 4-1 victory against New England.

He has contributed to multiple goals in five consecutive matches, a feat never achieved before in MLS history.

With nine goals and seven assists in seven matches for Inter Miami this season, Messi continues to demonstrate his prowess on the field.

A World Cup winner with Argentina in 2022, Messi boasts an impressive career record of over 800 goals for club and country.

His performance in the 2022 World Cup final, where he scored twice against France in a match that ended 3-3 before Argentina prevailed 4-2 on penalty kicks, further solidified his status as one of the greatest scorers in soccer history.

On Thursday, Lionel Messi took a moment to pay tribute to his former coach, Tito Vilanova, marking the 10th anniversary of his passing.

The Argentine shared a heartfelt post on social media, remembering his coach and friend fondly.

Vilanova guided Messi and Barcelona to a memorable La Liga title victory in the 2012-2013 season, during which they set a new league record of 100 points.

Sadly, Vilanova had to step down from his role in 2013 due to a recurrence of gland cancer, and he passed away a year later.

Vilanova’s influence on Messi and his lasting impact on Barcelona will always be remembered, with reports suggesting that he played a pivotal role in convincing Messi to stay with the club amidst uncertainties about his future.

According to Marca’s 2019 report, Vilanova spent hours in conversation with Messi during his final days, urging him to remain loyal to Barcelona.

“He talks with his looks” – Benjamin Cremaschi on playing with Messi at Inter Miami

USMNT prospect Benjamin Cremaschi has offered an intriguing glimpse into his experience sharing the field with Inter Miami teammate Lionel Messi.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who earned his debut for the Stars and Stripes last September, revealed insights into how the World Cup winner operates and communicates on the pitch.

Despite Messi’s reserved demeanor, Cremaschi explained that they share a mutual understanding when it comes to creating space and opportunities.

“He doesn’t talk much, right?” Cremaschi explained to Fulham’s Tim Ream on The American Dream podcast. “But he talks with his looks. Like, he’ll look at you and you’ll be like ‘Oh alright’. Literally in the field, I’m obviously constantly looking at him to see where he’s positioned because I play by his side.

So obviously, when he comes in, I need to create some space for him or maybe attract some players there so he can have some space. There are different little movements that I need to do to satisfy his game. Obviously, if we find him with time and space, it’s a goal chance, literally.”

Cremaschi’s breakdown is another intriguing insight into how one of the game’s greatest players goes about his business. Last week, Julian Gressel detailed how Messi’s presence on the field changes the energy of the side and raises the level of his Inter Miami colleagues just by his presence.

Messi, Cremaschi and company look to keep their strong start to the season rolling when they head north at the weekend to face the struggling New England Revolution in Foxboro.

Inter Miami are sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference on 18 points, two ahead of the New York Red Bulls, who have played a game more.

Lionel Messi delivered a remarkable assist for Inter Miami on Saturday evening, setting up Diego Gomez for the team’s opening goal.

Despite conceding an early goal due to defensive lapses, Inter Miami responded positively. In the 18th minute, Messi received the ball outside the box and delivered a precise pass into the box for youngster Diego Gomez, who calmly scored to level the match at 1-1.

With a record-breaking attendance of over 70,000 spectators, this was the largest crowd ever for a Sporting KC match.

Fans from across the country flocked to Arrowhead Stadium, home of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, eager to witness Messi in action.

This assist marked Messi’s seventh in all competitions, and his fifth in MLS.

Next Saturday, the Herons will face Eastern Conference side Nashville SC. Having already defeated Nashville earlier in the season in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, expectations will be high for Messi and his teammates.

Possessed dwarf with a devil’s face – Nico Sanchez fires Messi after an alleged tunnel confrontation

Lionel Messi was reportedly referred to as a “possessed dwarf” with the “face of the devil” during a heated altercation with Monterrey coach Nico Sanchez.

Despite being absent from the first leg of Inter Miami’s CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal match against the Mexican team, Messi, along with Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Tata Martino, engaged in a confrontation with Monterrey players and coaches after their 2-1 loss at Chase Stadium.

Allegedly, the group headed towards the room housing match officials to express discontent with several crucial decisions made during the game.

This confrontation was fueled by comments made by Monterrey boss Fernando Ortiz before the game, suggesting that Inter Miami would receive favorable decisions if Messi played.

In the wake of that argument, audio has been leaked through FOX Sports MX, with Sanchez saying: “The dwarf was possessed, he had the face of the devil.

He put his fist next to my face and says: ‘Who do you think you are?’ But because I didn’t look at him, I was looking away, and I never answered back, It made things worse.

And Tata Martino, what a poor dummy, I had him in front of me, telling me: ‘Fool, you going to cry? Fool, are you going to cry?’ What a dummy! All those videos, they probably erased them all because it leaves them looking bad. What they did was really serious. They want to dirty the pitch.”

Monterrey have requested that CONCACAF look into the heated exchange, but assistant coach Sanchez has apologised for some of his comments – with the Argentine saying, while overlooking fellow countryman Messi:

“Since I do not know the Inter coach, Gerardo Martino, and I referred to him in a disrespectful manner, I apologise. I am as Argentine as all of them and I will always defend my club. I’m here to show my face and take charge.”

Inter Miami and Monterrey will lock horns again on Wednesday, with Messi expected to be included in the Herons’ starting XI for that contest after making his return from injury off the bench in a 2-2 MLS draw with the Colorado Rapids.

Lionel Messi scores just 12 minutes into game after injury come back

Lionel Messi made a stunning comeback for Inter Miami, scoring just 12 minutes after coming off the substitutes’ bench in a 2-2 draw against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.

The Argentine star, sidelined with injury since March 13, made his return at halftime at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His first-time deflected shot found the back of the net off the post, bringing Miami level at 1-1.

This goal marked Messi’s fifth in five games across all competitions this season. Just three minutes later, he played a key role in Leo Alfonso’s goal, giving Miami a 2-1 lead over the visitors.

However, despite their efforts, Miami couldn’t maintain the lead, as Cole Bassett equalized for Colorado in the 88th minute.

“The usual [with Messi] in what he provokes in our team, in the rival and in the fans,” Miami boss Gerardo “Tata” Martino said in his postgame news conference. “The most important thing is that he felt comfortable, he felt good and loose playing.

“That’s why it is a shame to let go of two points. I think we continue making errors that make us lose points.”

Despite training regularly with the rest of the squad leading up to the Major League Soccer clash, Messi’s participation remained uncertain just 24 hours before kickoff.

“Messi’s evolution is exactly as we planned it,” Martino added. “We knew there was a risk for him to play against Monterrey on Wednesday, but it was planned that he would play minutes today. We were between 30 and 45, and he felt good.

“This helps to reach the second leg against Monterrey with more confidence, especially in relation to his injury.”

Miami heads to Monterrey, Mexico, for the return leg on Wednesday down 2-1 from the first match but with Martino hopeful of having Messi involved.

“The idea is that Messi does play on Wednesday,” he said. “But he just played 45 minutes, though we understand the requirements expected from us in the second leg. The most important thing is that he’s back, he felt good, scored a goal and participated in the second. That’s the most outstanding part.”

Messi tells when he plans to retire from football

Lionel Messi has said age will not play a factor in his decision to retire and that he will know when it is right to call time on his playing career as he will not be contributing as necessary to his team’s success.

The Argentina captain, 36, has not given an indication as to when he will retire, with his deal at Inter Miami ending in December 2025.

“I know that the moment that I know that I’m not performing, that I’m not enjoying myself, that I’m not helping my teammates,” Messi told MBC’s Big Time Podcast.

“I am very self-critical. I know when I am good, when I am bad, when I play well, when I play badly… And when I feel it is time to take that step, I will take it without thinking about age. If I feel good, I will always try to continue competing, because it is what I like and what I know how to do.”

An eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, Messi, who captained Argentina to World Cup glory in 2022, is expected to lead his national team at this summer’s Copa América.

“Had things not gone the way they did [in the tournament in Qatar], I would have left the national team,” Messi said

Due to a hamstring injury, Lionel Messi was unable to participate in Argentina’s recent victories over El Salvador and Costa Rica in international friendlies. Coach Lionel Scaloni emphasized that Messi is the only player whose spot in the squad is assured.

“I keep analysing everyone, but no one has a guaranteed place, except for the one who couldn’t be here,” Scaloni said in reference to Messi after Tuesday’s 3-1 win against Costa Rica in Los Angeles.

Inter Miami coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino commented that Lionel Messi’s desire to win remains as strong as it was during their time together at Barcelona. Messi achieved a significant milestone by becoming the most decorated football player in history when he secured his 44th trophy with Inter Miami’s victory in the 2023 Leagues Cup last August.

“On a sporting level, I was lucky to be able to achieve everything in my career, to have achieved my dreams and the truth is that I couldn’t ask for more, both from a professional and human level, as well as with my family, my friends. I try to enjoy everything that God has given me so far, which is a lot.”

Messi said he has not decided what he will do once he stops playing football.

“The truth is I haven’t thought about it yet,” he said. “Today I try to enjoy the day-to-day, the moments, without thinking about what comes after.

“I don’t have anything clear yet; I hope to continue playing for a while longer, which is what I like. When the time comes, I will surely find the way to what fulfils me, what I like and a new role.”

Messi wants the same win now, just as he did during Barça stint – Inter Miami coach

Inter Miami coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino expressed admiration for Lionel Messi’s continued hunger for success, stating that Messi’s unwavering desire to win remains unchanged from their time together at Barcelona.

Martino, who previously coached Messi at Barcelona during the 2013–14 season and later with Argentina’s national team for two years, revealed that Messi’s commitment to excellence has endured over the years.

“The number one thing they maintain throughout their entire career is the way they compete and the desire to win regardless of where they play,” Martino said of Messi.

“That is a big trait of his. I’m not saying that it surprises me because this is the third spell that I have managed him.

“But today I still see it in the same way as the first time in Barcelona, the desire to go for everything that falls on his path.”

At the age of 36, Lionel Messi achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the most decorated football player in history, clinching his 44th trophy when Inter Miami secured the League Cup title in August 2023.

Messi and I agreed on his rest – Inter Miami’s Martino on benching ‘the GOAT’

Inter Miami coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino has justified his choice to bench Lionel Messi in Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Montreal.

Messi, aged 36, had participated in every minute of Miami’s three MLS matches in 2024, along with their Concacaf Champions League fixture against Nashville SC last Thursday.

“We talked about it about a week ago and we agreed that this was the game where he had to rest, regardless of what happened in the game with Nashville,” Martino said of Messi.

Martino had announced his plans during the preseason to rotate Messi and other senior players throughout the season. Additionally, Miami’s squad includes former Barcelona players Jordi Alba, aged 34, Sergio Busquets, aged 35, and Luis Suárez, aged 37.

“We also must make sure our team is healthy and can last an entire season,” he said.

Speaking after Sunday’s game, Inter Miami’s first defeat of the season, Martino said, “I think we more than deserved to win the game. Clearly, it was a game we should have won.”

Martino also accused Montreal players of time-wasting late in the game.

“Before the league started, we had to listen for an hour to a talk about what the spirit of the league was and the spirit of the league was not seen today,” he said.

“There was a team that did not want to play. In each situation of a throw-in, of a goal kick, or of a foul, permanently wasted time with the collaboration of a referee, who took 30 seconds to write down the shirt number of the cautioned player.”

Inter Miami have conceded five goals in their last two games and Martino admitted to being concerned by their defensive capabilities.

“What worries me is that we are a team that does not defend hard in the moments when it has to defend, be it when the ball is in play or in dead-ball situations,” Martino said.

Inter Miami are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Nashville SC in the 16th round of the second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup. They drew the opening leg 2-2.

“He won those trophies and also won the World Cup. He is the best of all time, in my opinion,” Haaland said.

Asked about his dip in performance lately, the Manchester City striker said, “Last year I scored 36 goals and was the top scorer. This season I am still the top scorer, with 18, so you can think it’s been a good season or not for me.

“I think we are doing quite well as a team, and that’s my goal. I have missed, I have missed many chances, and I will surely miss in the future, and people will criticise me. Do I have to think about it? No.”

In 2023, Lionel Messi secured his eighth Ballon d’Or, triumphing over competitors Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, who finished second and third, respectively.

Barca captain Sergi Roberto snubs Saudi offers amid Messi’s Inter Miami links

Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto has reportedly turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia in favour of joining Lionel Messi in Major League Soccer (MLS).

According to Mundo Deportivo, Roberto declined a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian second division side Al-Qadisiyah, despite their ambitions of promotion to the Saudi Pro League next season.

Personal reasons were cited for his decision to reject the move.

Roberto’s current contract with Barcelona expires in the summer, and with manager Xavi leaving the club at the end of the season, the likelihood of a contract renewal appears slim.

Inter Miami, a Major League Soccer club, is reportedly interested in acquiring Roberto’s services, following their signings of former Barcelona stars Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suarez alongside Messi.

Multiple reports indicate Roberto’s desire to join MLS in the future.

The Barcelona skipper is scheduled to appear in the next La Liga fixture on Sunday, as Xavi’s side prepares to face Athletic Club.

Inter Miami coach ‘dodge’ question of Messi’s participation in Olympic Games

Javier Mascherano, the coach of Argentina’s under-23 team, has suggested that the captain of Inter Miami might have the opportunity to take part in the Olympic Games in Paris.

When asked about the potential involvement of Messi, who is expected to lead Argentina in the 2024 Copa América, in the Olympics as well, Martino avoided directly mentioning Messi. Instead, he referred to Messi’s MLS teammate, Diego Gómez, as an example.

“He [Paraguay’s Gomez] has the Copa América and the Olympic Games,” Martino said.

“We know that we have to give him to the Copa and not to the Games; we communicate; I have many friends there [in Paraguay’s FA] and I told them to choose only one.”

The 2024 Copa América will be staged in the United States from June 20–July 14, less than two weeks before the Games begin in Paris.

With the MLS season continuing uninterrupted while the Copa América takes place, Martino is against his players competing in both tournaments.

“I am a pro-national team, but in this case, there are two competitions [the Copa América and the Olympics] close together and that implies that a player is away for more than two months,” he said.

At 36 years old, Messi has previously competed in the Olympics, achieving gold in Beijing in 2008.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or recipient secured victory in the 2021 Copa América and subsequently led Argentina to their third World Cup title the following year.

  • Hong Kong match planner to give partial refund to Inter Miami ticket buyers after Messi’s miss out of game

Hong Kong match planner to give partial refund to Inter Miami ticket buyers after Messi’s miss out of game

Organizer of a highly anticipated Inter Miami match in Hong Kong last week, which was expected to feature Lionel Messi (36), has announced a 50% refund for tickets following widespread disappointment that the Argentine player did not take the field due to injury but participated in a match in Japan a few days later.

Tatler Asia, a privately owned publishing and lifestyle company, issued a statement on its Instagram page expressing deep regret and sorrow for letting down fans after Messi remained on the bench during Sunday’s match.

The match in Hong Kong attracted 40,000 fans, with some paying nearly HK$5,000 ($640) per ticket. Tatler announced that all matchday tickets purchased from official channels are eligible for a 50% refund, adding that discussions have been underway with the Hong Kong government to address the matter.

Miami head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino stated that Messi was considered unfit to play in the friendly match in Hong Kong, but he did come on as a substitute in the 60th minute during the match against Vissel Kobe on Wednesday.

“When we learned that Messi would not be playing, we pleaded with Inter Miami CF ownership and management to urge him to stand up, engage with the spectators and explain why he couldn’t play,” Tatler said.

“He didn’t. The fact that Messi and (Luis) Suarez played in Japan on February 7 feels like another slap in the face.”

During the match in Tokyo, large sections of seating at the Japan National Stadium were left vacant, with only 28,614 tickets being sold.

Chinese state media, along with Hong Kong politicians and certain fans, promptly criticised Messi’s involvement in the Japan match. The state-controlled Global Times highlighted Messi’s absence, raising concerns about unequal treatment in Hong Kong.

In response, the Hong Kong government issued a statement acknowledging the refund offered by Tatler Asia. It noted that the refund demonstrated the organizer’s commitment to addressing the situation, emphasising that many individuals had queries regarding the incident.

“The government hopes that the Inter Miami team will eventually provide a reasonable explanation to Hong Kong citizens and fans who came to Hong Kong to watch the game.”

Tatler Asia said Inter Miami had committed to ensuring that their top players, including Messi and Uruguay’s Suarez, would play for 45 minutes unless injured.

It said it had hoped to create an iconic moment in support of the government’s efforts to remind the world how relevant and exciting Hong Kong is.

“That dream is broken today for us and all those who bought tickets to see Messi on the pitch.”

Messi has changed the face of USA football! – NBA star LeBron James on the ‘GOAT’s impact

NBA superstar LeBron James believes that Lionel Messi’s arrival in the MLS has brought about a “game-changing” impact throughout the USA.

James ensured his presence at Messi’s Miami debut against Cruz Azul in the League Cup back in July 2023. Witnessing Messi’s brilliant free-kick goal in the final minute of injury time, securing a memorable win for the Herons, James enjoyed a wonderful time in the stands.

Following the match, the basketball legend approached Messi and warmly welcomed the record Ballon d’Or winner to the United States.

Since Messi’s arrival, the Lakers player has shown a keen interest in soccer and emphasised that the presence of the 2022 World Cup winner will play a pivotal role in inspiring the next generation of fans to embrace the sport.

“Seeing Messi, the GOAT of soccer, honour the MLS with his presence is a total game-changer for us,” he said in a conversation with Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

“His arrival not only elevates the league but also inspires a new generation of football fans in our country. It takes unparalleled dedication, work ethic and talent to achieve what Messi has, and I have nothing but respect and admiration for him. I wish him all the best.”

Despite Lionel Messi’s widespread admiration and respect from millions of fans worldwide, he faced criticism from disappointed supporters in the Far East after missing Inter Miami’s friendly match in Hong Kong on Sunday.

The legendary player, currently on a jet-setting international tour, attributed his absence to “bad luck” caused by an injury. While Messi has moved on to Japan for the team’s next assignment, he remains uncertain about his fitness for the upcoming match against Vissel Kobe on Wednesday.

This friendly encounter marks the final leg of their extensive tour, which has taken them from El Salvador to Japan via the Middle East.

Upon their return to the US, they are scheduled to play another friendly against Messi’s first club, Newell’s Old Boys, before kicking off their 2024 MLS campaign with a home match against Real Salt Lake on February 21st.

  • You can call him Messi for this reason – Poch on Palmer’s abilities after Aston Villa clash

You can call him Messi for this reason – Poch on Palmer’s abilities after Aston Villa clash

Mauricio Pochettino jokingly suggested that Cole Palmer should be called Lionel Messi and came to the defense of the Chelsea player after he missed some significant opportunities against Aston Villa.

In the FA Cup fourth-round match on Friday night, Chelsea faced a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, leading to a replay in early February. Despite a strong performance, Chelsea missed several notable chances, particularly by Palmer and Noni Madueke.

Nevertheless, Manager Pochettino supported Palmer by playfully comparing him to Messi and also shared insights into the former Manchester City player’s optimal position.

When asked about Palmer’s failure to score against Villa, the Argentine said, “No, I think he cannot score in every single game. If he did, we should maybe not call him Cole Palmer; we should call him maybe Leo [Messi]. No, it is not about his position, and his potential is massive. It’s just that sometimes you score or not. Sometimes you have better nights but he is doing well.

“He is a player who can play in different positions and you can see and feel that we never talk about his performances because he is always doing really good. It’s just that sometimes he scores or doesn’t score, but he always finds amazing chances in the game.”

Setting aside the Messi comparisons, Palmer has emerged as arguably Chelsea’s standout player this season following his £42.5 million ($54 million) transfer from City last summer.

The 21-year-old has impressively contributed 11 goals and seven assists this term.

Despite Chelsea’s scrutiny over their high-profile transfers, the English international has been a bright spot at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea is optimistic that Palmer maintains his scoring form as they face Premier League leaders Liverpool on Wednesday, followed by a home match against Wolves four days later.

The replay against Villa is likely to precede their away fixture against Crystal Palace on February 12.

Messi indeed deserved it more than Haaland – John Obi on FIFA Best Award

Former Super Eagles captain John Obi-Mikel believes Lionel Messi was deserving of The Best FIFA Men’s Player award over Erling Haaland.

Messi secured the accolade, prevailing over Haaland, who achieved a treble with Manchester City and scored 30 goals across all competitions during the evaluation period.

Despite the Norwegian’s remarkable performance, Messi emerged as the winner, sparking discussions on social media.

Mikel, who faced Messi in the 2005 Under-20 World Cup final, asserts that the Argentine captain did more to warrant the award than Haaland did during the assessed period.

Lionel Messi has set a record by becoming the player with the most FIFA Best Award wins and the first Major League Soccer (MLS) player to receive the special award.

Despite journalists predominantly voting for Erling Haaland, Messi secured the Best FIFA Men’s Player award for 2023.

Haaland led the vote among national team coaches, but Messi emerged victorious in the vote conducted by national team captains. The Argentine claimed the prize after earning the highest five-point score in the captain’s votes, breaking the tie with Haaland.

Earlier, Roberto Martinez, Portugal’s head coach, gained attention for his choice in the FIFA Best Awards, where he overlooked Cristiano Ronaldo.

  • Luis Suarez tells how Beckham got him to join Messi, other Barca teammates at Inter Miami

Luis Suarez tells how Beckham got him to join Messi, other Barca teammates at Inter Miami

Luis Suarez has joined the Barcelona reunion at Inter Miami, aligning himself with former teammates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets at the Florida-based club.

Suarez shared his motivations for joining the Herons, citing the desire to reconnect with his Barcelona colleagues as a significant factor.

Additionally, he disclosed that the idea of moving to the United States had crossed his mind as early as 2019, influenced by his close friend Nicolas Lodeiro’s involvement with the Seattle Sounders.

Furthermore, Suarez explained that the upcoming Copa America tournament in the United States played a role in his decision. Being part of Inter Miami would allow him to acclimatise to the conditions, providing preparation for his final international tournament representing Uruguay.

“To come help a team that has well-known players that everyone knows and [adjust] to the other players and what is a new club and do what the club wants, which is to attempt to win an MLS Cup and do it with professionalism, is what is wanted of me; this is so important for me,” Suarez said. “[Messi] talked to me about the good things about Inter Miami and about MLS. It was so nice for me when he told me that.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quCdluJT4cI

Suarez further explained the role of Copa America in his decision, telling AS: “Anyone who has been in the national team always wants to stay in the national team. I’ve always said that. I had a chance to step aside after the World Cup, but when I was in Brazil, I felt good physically and that I could help the team from anywhere.

“You have to accept the role you have to play and coming here to the United States and knowing the Copa América is being played this year is another plus. It helps to acclimatise, knowing it will be hot, and that’s good; it’s important to get to know the country. After that, my performances on the field will help the coach decide if I can make a contribution. That will always be based on performances, not on reputation.”

The Uruguayan and Messi spent six seasons together at Barcelona, winning four Spanish league titles and nine other trophies, including a Champions League title, in that span. Suarez is coming off a year where he was the best player and the best striker in the Brazilian Serie A with Gremio.

However, now that he is turning 37 this year and suffering from knee issues, the load on the striker will have to be managed by the club if they want to get the best out of him.

Suarez has already started training with the Herons and is likely to feature in the season-opening friendly for Inter Miami against El Salvador on January 19 in San Salvador.

Messi back on the pitch after rare two-month break from football

Lionel Messi, after a brief respite from competitive football, concludes his holiday as he gears up to return to Inter Miami.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or recipient made a move to the United States in the summer of 2023, parting ways with Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.

He played a pivotal role in securing a League Cup victory for his new club shortly after joining. However, an unfortunate injury contributed to Inter Miami missing out on a spot in the MLS playoffs.

After wrapping up his domestic season with Argentina, Messi spent the festive and New Year period in his homeland. Now, he is en route to Florida, departing Argentina for Fort Lauderdale around 11 p.m. on Saturday evening, along with his family.

They will be readjusting to life in the opulent waterfront mansion they acquired shortly after their arrival in the United States.

Messi’s return to the pitch is scheduled for January 19, nearly two months since his last appearance.

Inter Miami’s upcoming fixtures include friendly matches against El Salvador, a Hong Kong Select XI, Vissel Kobe, FC Dallas, and Newell’s Old Boys. Additionally, they will face Al-Hilal and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr at the Riyadh Cup.

Messi’s departure from Barca was a shock; nobody knows what really happened – Sergi Roberto

Sergi Roberto acknowledges that the details surrounding Lionel Messi’s departure from Barcelona in 2021 remain unclear, with the Argentine’s emotional farewell from Camp Nou still resonating.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner left for Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent, unable to secure new terms with Barcelona upon the expiration of his contract.

Sergi Roberto, also a La Masia Academy graduate, expressed his astonishment at witnessing the departure of the iconic Argentine, who was anticipated to retire as a one-club man.

Sergi Roberto has told the B3TTer podcast: “Leo Messi’s departure shocked me a lot. Neither I nor my teammates expected it. We thought he was going to renew. It’s been a few years now, but nobody knows what really happened in those days. I thought he was going to play here his whole career.

“Leo Messi is the best player in the club’s history and in football history… You expect to see him the next day in training, but suddenly he’s not there. It’s like the club was starting from scratch.

“He was part of all of the good years for the club. You never see him talk about how he’s the best or how important he is to others. He always looks out for the team’s best interests.”

There have been suggestions that Sergi Roberto could reunite with Messi at MLS side Inter Miami as his own contract at Barcelona runs out.

The versatile 31-year-old said of potentially chasing the American dream: “With Xavi as the coach, I feel very comfortable. I have his confidence. At the end of the season, if the club is happy with me, I will continue. I’m talking to Barca. At the moment, I’m not going to go to another team.

“Everything that is said about me going to Miami or Palmeiras… it’s all lies. It’s true that I would like to have experience in the MLS in the future, but it is not yet the time for it. At the moment, I say that I want to stay at Barca. Maybe in a year, I will tell you that I want another experience in Europe or the United States but this will be in the future. I don’t think that will happen suddenly.”

Messi has already been joined in Florida by former Blaugrana team-mates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Luis Suarez is expected to be the next ex-Barca superstar to make his way to DRV PNK Stadium, with the Uruguayan striker hitting free agency after severing ties with Brazilian side Gremio.

  • Jon Rahm surpasses Cristiano Ronaldo to become highest paid sportsman in the world

Jon Rahm surpasses Cristiano Ronaldo to become highest paid sportsman in the world

Jon Rahm signed a huge deal with LIV Golf for over $300 million, making him the highest-paid athlete in the world.

The rebel tour supported by Saudi Arabia has signed up many famous players, like Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka, since it started in 2021. But getting Rahm to join is probably their most important achievement.

The Spaniard is the current winner of the Masters and is currently ranked third in the world. He helped Europe win the Ryder Cup this year with Rory McIlroy, but now it’s unclear if he can play in 2025.

Rahm has talked openly about not liking LIV in the past. He said in August that he never liked the league’s format. He changed his mind about supporting the PGA Tour by making a deal for the 2024 season.

When he joined LIV, the two-time major champion became the world’s highest-paid athlete, making more money than Cristiano Ronaldo, who also signed a big contract with the Gulf state.

He will make more money than Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi who recently signed big contracts with Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Miami. He will make at least four times as much.

Rahm has made more than $50 million in prize money from playing golf in his whole career and $15 million in just the past year.
Top 5 athletes who earn the most money in 2023, as reported by Forbes.

    1. Jon Rahm, a professional golfer, has a net worth of $300 million.

    2. Cristiano Ronaldo, a football player, makes $136 million.

    3. Lionel Messi, a soccer player, earned $130 million.

    4. Kylian Mbappe, a football player, is worth $120 million.

    5. LeBron James made $119. 5 million from playing basketball.

“The game of golf has changed a lot in the past two years and I have seen LIV Golf grow and become more innovative,” the 29-year-old said when announcing the move to Fox News.

That’s why I came here today. I made this decision for a lot of reasons and because I thought it was the best choice for me. I think it’s a really good offer, but I just want to make sure you understand.

I have been really happy, but there are many things that LIV Golf has that are very attractive. It was an amazing deal. The money is really good, it’s fantastic.

I’m telling the truth when I say I don’t play golf for the money. I love playing golf because I really enjoy the game.

‘But, as a husband, father, and family man, I have a responsibility to provide the best opportunities and resources for my family. ‘

The golfer who has won major tournaments two times is leaving at a very important time during the talks between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

The Tour and PIF, who fund LIV and Newcastle United, surprised everyone by saying they might join together as one company. They hope to make a deal by the end of the year.

Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the chairman of PIF, was going to meet with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan for important discussions next week. But, the signing of Rahm to LIV could make it uncertain if they can make a deal.

Phil Foden is the most asked of City star by Messi – Sergio Aguero

    Lionel Messi reportedly
expressed astonishment at the early promise displayed by Phil Foden during his breakthrough at Manchester City.

Foden made his debut under Pep Guardiola in 2017 at the age of 17 in a UEFA Champions League match against Feyenoord.

Recognised as one of the world’s premier young talents, Foden has secured 15 major titles, including the Champions League, within five years.

Despite being a key player for Guardiola, Foden has occasionally played second-fiddle to Kevin De Bruyne.

This season, he has seen increased playing time due to De Bruyne’s hamstring injury in the opening game against Burnley.

Messi, having noticed Foden’s potential, inquired about the young English international’s abilities in training from his compatriot Sergio Aguero.

Aguero, a close friend of Messi, played alongside Foden for approximately four years before moving from Manchester to Barcelona.

While Messi and Foden share similarities in playing style and creativity, Messi maintains a clear advantage in terms of goal-scoring.

This season, Foden has contributed to nine goals for Manchester City.

In a related context, Kylian Mbappe’s endorsement of Messi for the Ballon d’Or sparked controversy, with some fans advocating for Erling Haaland.

Messi ultimately won the award, leading by 105 points over Haaland, with many considering the young striker a future contender.

Lionel Messi ended his last match of the calendar year with a groin injury, leading to his substitution in Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Brazil on Tuesday.

The Argentina captain exited the game in the 78th minute, a match overshadowed by fan-police clashes. Following the game, Messi voiced concerns about a groin injury.

“I felt discomfort in my adductor,” Messi said. “It was my last game of the year so I have time to get well to start 2024 by giving everything.”

The Inter Miami forward underwent treatment on the sidelines during the first half and appeared to be lacking in fitness.

Messi attributed his injury to the 27-minute delay in the start of the game, which resulted from the violent clashes.

“It didn’t help me to cool down and go inside the locker room and then come back,” he said.

Messi, 36, played all 90 minutes of Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Peru on Thursday, his first competitive game since Oct. 21 when he started Inter Miami’s 1-0 defeat to Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer.

The former Barcelona star has struggled with injuries throughout this season.

Messi, who joined Inter Miami in the summer after two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, missed five MLS games with a hamstring injury before returning to action on Oct. 7.

Despite not making his usual impact on the pitch, Messi was delighted that his team handed Brazil their first-ever home loss in World Cup qualifying on Tuesday.

“This group continues to achieve historic things,” the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner said. “It’s a nice thing to win in Brazil, knowing how historically strong they are at home.”

Messi has ample time for recuperation from his injury, with his return to Inter Miami’s preseason training scheduled for the second week of January.

On Tuesday, Inter Miami refuted claims of organising a preseason match against Al Nassr, the club associated with Messi’s longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

  • Brazilian FA defends police in Argentina-Austria altercation, following Messi social media rants

Brazilian Football Association (CBF) has stepped forward to defend Rio de Janeiro’s military police, which faced criticism from Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

The Albiceleste captain strongly condemned the authorities at the Maracana stadium, alleging that they were “beating people” and warning that the night “could have ended in tragedy.”

Video footage showed police responding forcefully to individuals who were purportedly booing the Brazilian national anthem, with one fan seen leaving with a bloodied head on a stretcher.

Despite the tumultuous incident, the match resumed after a 30-minute delay, resulting in a 1-0 victory for the visitors.

This incident is not the first time tensions have flared in the Brazil-Argentina rivalry. Earlier this month, Boca Juniors fans encountered similar resistance on Rio’s Copacabana beach, creating a contentious atmosphere leading up to a Copa Libertadores final eventually won by the local team, Fluminense.

    https://youtu.be/P6V5aLiWn60

However, in response to Tuesday night’s altercations, the CBF has firmly stood by the actions of the accused authorities.

The federation wrote in a statement: “It is important to clarify that the organisation and planning of the match were carried out carefully and strategically by the CBF, together and in constant dialogue with all the competent public bodies, especially the Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro.

“All the planning for the match, especially the action and security plans, were discussed with the public authorities in Rio de Janeiro in meetings between the parties.

“CBF therefore reaffirms that the action, security and operation plan for the match, as approved by the RJ Military Police and other authorities, were strictly adhered to.”

After Nicolas Otamendi’s 63rd-minute goal sealed Brazil’s third straight defeat, Fernando Diniz’s side dropped to an incredible sixth in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table.

Off the pitch, however, it remains to be seen whether authorities did actually adhere to security plans in the eyes of FIFA, who could respond with a sanction.

“It’s crazy and it needs to end now” – Messi fumes after Brazil-Argentina qualifier altercation

Lionel Messi recently used social media to condemn the “excessive repression” faced by Argentina fans in Brazil following a tumultuous incident at the Maracana stadium.

During the World Cup qualifier in Rio de Janeiro, the match was delayed for more than 30 minutes due to police intervention prompted by Albiceleste supporters booing the Brazilian national anthem.

This incident set the stage for a heated encounter, ultimately won by Argentina through a Nicolas Otamendi goal. However, Messi, in his post-match remarks, highlighted the plight of fans who endured the repercussions after the game concluded.

The 2023 Ballon d’Or winner wrote on Instagram, “This team continues to make history… Great victory in the Maracana, although it will be marked by the repression of the Argentinians once again in Brazil. This can’t be tolerated; it’s crazy and it needs to end now!!”

The intense rivalry between Brazil and Argentina in world football has once again erupted into violence, marking another instance of clashes between fans from these two nations this month.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6V5aLiWn60

The recent Copa Libertadores final between Fluminense and Boca Juniors witnessed chaotic scenes of violence on Rio’s Copacabana beach, triggering a harsh response from Brazilian authorities.

Adding to the uncertainty is the looming question of Lionel Messi’s future at the international level.

The Inter Miami star, set to turn 39 during the 2026 World Cup, faces speculation about his participation, with some suggesting it hinges on his team’s performance in the upcoming Copa America.

Moreover, Messi may find himself without a mentor for both tournaments following the surprising hint of resignation from manager Lionel Scaloni on Tuesday night.

The combination of these factors adds a layer of unpredictability to Messi’s international career.

Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli excited to play Messi in Brazil-Messi clash as he has ‘only seen him in video games’

Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to face the “phenomenal” Lionel Messi, having only encountered the Argentine superstar in video games before.

Martinelli is part of the Brazil squad preparing to play against the reigning world champions at the Maracanã on Tuesday.

This match holds significant importance in the qualification race for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Even though Messi will be a star attraction in Rio de Janeiro, opponents like Martinelli are excited about sharing the pitch with the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Martinelli, at 22 years old, acknowledges Messi’s status as a phenomenal player, considering him the best in the world once again this year.

I want to enjoy the moment of being able to play against him, being in the same stadium as him, and watching him up close because I’ve only seen him in video games. It’s going to be a wonderful experience.”

The intense rivalry between Brazil and Argentina will persist when they face each other, but for Gabriel Martinelli, the opportunity to share the field with his football idol, Lionel Messi, is a moment to relish. There might even be a desire to exchange shirts with Messi at the end of the match.

Messi to donate over £300,000 to Jude Bellingham, Trent and Jamie’s Football for Change charity

Lionel Messi has generously contributed a unique meet-and-greet experience to the Football For Change charity, which was established by Jude Bellingham and other footballers.

According to The Liverpool Echo, Messi made this donation in anticipation of a gala dinner scheduled for Saturday, with the charity aiming to raise over £1 million.

Founded in 2021 by Bellingham, along with Jamie Carragher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Conor Coady, the Football For Change gala is set to benefit from Messi’s donation, which is expected to garner over £300,000.

Additionally, David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami, has also offered a tour of the football club, possibly conducted by the former England captain himself.

As part of its initiatives, Football For Change plans to distribute 20 grants, each valued at £100,000, to children and young people in disadvantaged communities in the United Kingdom.

Ahead of the gala this weekend, Alexander-Arnold said, “Football For Change is about helping young people onto a positive path.

“It is footballers and business leaders coming together with a goal to help improve the life chances and opportunities of young people from some of the most challenged neighbourhoods in the country. It is a brilliant initiative and I know, growing up in Liverpool, that is needed now more than ever.”

    Messi is expected to

‘Learn a little respect!’ – Messi tells Manuel Ugarte’s after bottle feeder fracas during Argentina- Uruguay clash

Lionel Messi responded to an offensive gesture from Manuel Ugarte directed at Rodrigo De Paul by urging certain Uruguayan players to “show respect.”

A tense 2026 World Cup qualification match unfolded between the South American rivals at Boca Juniors’ La Bombonera on Thursday evening.

In this fiercely contested game, Argentina experienced a dramatic 2-0 defeat, marking their first loss since claiming the global title in Qatar in 2022.

The match was marred by several heated incidents, including goals from Ronald Araujo and Darwin Nunez for the visiting team.

One notable altercation occurred in the first half when Ugarte clashed with De Paul.

The Uruguayan midfielder accused De Paul, a World Cup winner, of being Messi’s “bottle feeder,” and an offensive gesture further fueled tensions, resulting in players from both teams becoming entangled in an unsightly brawl.

Messi told reporters afterwards, when asked about the incident, “It’s normal. These kinds of games, qualifiers, against Uruguay, it’s always like that. I prefer not to say what I think. Young people have to learn to respect their elders. This classic was always intense and hard, but always with a lot of respect. They have to learn a little.”

Messi went on to say of the game itself, which saw Argentina fall behind late in the first half before conceding a second in the 87th minute: “We never felt comfortable. They’re a physical team that works well and on the counterattack, they were very dangerous. Today it was our turn to lose. It’s a test. We have to get back up and play a great game in Brazil.”

Argentina is set to face arch-rivals Brazil on Tuesday, maintaining their position at the summit of the CONMEBOL qualification table. They hold a two-point lead over Uruguay, while Brazil, experiencing inconsistency, currently occupies the fifth position.

Messi will have to rest for sometime – Martino says

Inter Miami coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino reveals that Lionel Messi has acknowledged the need to reduce his playing time next year to manage the demanding schedule for both club and country.

Asked how you convinced the 36-year-old Argentina World Cup winner to play less, Martino said, “It seems to me that it is something that he has already incorporated; he has accepted.

“Because not only do we have our competitions, but there is also a Copa America in the middle of the year, and it is another important competition that is added.

“This topic has already been discussed with him (Messi) and Sergio Busquets; their desire is always to be there, to compete and play on all fronts, but they know that undoubtedly next year they will not be able to be in every game.

“There have been games this year where Leo was on the bench and he came on for a few minutes. There will be games where they will have to rest because it’s going to be impossible to be in every game.”
