Promote balanced and accurate reporting on 2024 polls – Mahama to media

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has cautioned the media against providing inaccurate and unbalanced reporting ahead, during, and after the 2024 elections.

Speaking at the national event for the signing of the peace pact, he stated, “To our media practitioners, I encourage you to promote balanced and accurate reporting. We must avoid misleading the electorates by deceiving them that some parties are going to vote one day and others are going to vote on another day.”

He added, “we must avoid sensationalism and speculation and focus on providing credible information that promotes peace and understanding.”

The former president also commended the security agencies for their tireless efforts and entreated them to continue displaying professionalism in carrying out their duties prior, during, and after the election.

“I urge you to remain impartial and professional in your duties, ensuring that all citizens can exercise their rights to vote without fear or intimidation,” he added.

He reiterated the opposition party’s commitment to ensuring Ghana’s peace is not tainted during this year’s election.

Mr Mahama remarked that although the NDC will protect the country’s peace, the onus lies on all to play their part in safeguarding the country’s peace.

“We are all too aware of the devastating consequences of electoral violence in other countries. We cannot afford to traverse that same path. As patriotic citizens, we have a collective responsibility to ensure our country remains a beacon of peace and stability in our sub region and we in the NDC stand prepared to play our part to achieve this,” he said.

The National Peace Council met with representatives from all political parties and their presidential candidates ahead of the 2024 election today to sign a peace pact that will bind candidates to promote national unity and stability.

The event took place at the Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City, Accra, under the theme: Pursuing Peaceful Elections, Non-Violence and Justice.

The event took place at the Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City, Accra, under the theme: Pursuing Peaceful Elections, Non-Violence and Justice.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) earlier announced its decision not to sign a proposed peace pact aimed at promoting peaceful conduct among political parties in the upcoming December 7 general elections.

The NDC expressed concerns that the Peace Council, which is leading the initiative, has not created a balanced and inclusive atmosphere conducive to fair engagement among all political parties.

While the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, publicly reaffirmed his commitment to peace at the launch of the NDC’s National Peace Campaign, the party believes the Peace Council has not sufficiently engaged with all stakeholders or addressed issues critical to ensuring electoral fairness.

Mahama built hospitals in Accra; Akufo-Addo is building one in every district – Ofosu Nkansah

Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has drawn a sharp contrast between the health infrastructure efforts of President Akufo-Addo and former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to Nkansah, the current administration’s Agenda 111 project demonstrates an unprecedented commitment to equitable healthcare delivery across Ghana.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, November 28, Nkansah commended President Akufo-Addo for pursuing an ambitious vision of building hospitals in every district, describing it as a game-changer in national development.

He criticized former President Mahama’s approach, claiming it was concentrated in the Greater Accra Region at the expense of the rest of the country. “On which President did better with providing Health Infrastructure, President Akufo-Addo has ensured every District is getting a hospital, whereas Fmr. Prez Mahama built 3 or 4 big hospitals in Greater Accra, if we even grant him UGMC, which is a Prez Mills project,” Nkansah stated.

He argued that the comparison between the two leaders in terms of healthcare development is clear, emphasizing that President Akufo-Addo’s focus on district-level healthcare facilities reflects a broader, more inclusive strategy.

“Some people in Accra will draw conclusions based on 4 facilities in Gt. Accra when one president is touching every part of the country. The difference is not even close,” he added.

You should be preparing your soul for heaven; stop lying – Mahama to Akufo-Addo over ‘dumsor’

Former President John Mahama has descended heavily on President Akufo-Addo over claims that intermittent power outages (dumsor) were not resolved before he left office.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, in a recent address claimed that, unlike other past presidents who are remembered for their significant contributions, Mr. Mahama’s legacy is tied to “Dumsor” — the frequent power outages that plagued his administration.

During the commissioning of the Sekyere Afram Plains District Hospital in Drobonso on Monday, 25th November, he said: “If he couldn’t maintain a 12-hour power supply during his presidency, how can he promise a 24-hour economy? Stop the lies,” he stated.

In a rebuttal, the former president referenced Proverbs 19:9, encouraging the president to desist from lying and focus on preparing himself for heaven as liar would not be allowed access to God’s kingdom.

“You know, liars cannot go to heaven. And let me give you a Bible quotation, Proverbs Chapter 19:9, he said, those who bear false witness will not go unpunished and the liars will be destroyed. If you lie, you will not go to heaven. At his age, he should be preparing his soul for heaven. So if you stop lying.”

He added, “I expect that when NPP is telling lies, they’ll leave it to the younger ones and the junior ones to do. But when the senior ones like Nana Akufo-Addo says that Dumsor was not solved before we came, I heard him say that if we could not keep the lights on, how can we run 24-hour economy. In 2016 dumsor had been solved. Nobody’s lights went off in 2016 nobody had load shedding in 2016 that is on record,” he responded.

I will build markets in all border towns if elected – Mahama

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has committed to revitalizing and building markets in all border towns across Ghana if he wins the upcoming December 7 general elections.

Speaking at a mini-campaign rally in Elubo during his Western region tour, Mahama outlined this proposal as part of a larger plan to boost trade in border areas nationwide.

He also emphasized his dedication to completing all stalled projects in the community, further demonstrating his focus on improving infrastructure and supporting local economies.

“Elubo and Aflao are both border towns. In Lome, for instance, there is a big market centre for trading activities, even for Ghanaians, but we can’t boast of the same in Aflao.

“To this end, we have pledged in the NDC manifesto to rehabilitate existing market centres and construct new ones in all border towns to attract traders from neighbouring countries.”

Forget Mahama; Ghana deserves a leader like Bawumia – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed his full trust in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, praising him as a capable and well-prepared leader ready to lead Ghana towards greater success.

The President urged the people of Ghana to unite behind Dr. Bawumia’s presidential campaign, emphasizing his wealth of experience and his clear vision for the country’s progress.

Speaking to professional groups in Kumasi on Sunday, November 24, Akufo-Addo stressed the importance of the Ashanti Region in securing victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He appealed to the region not to repeat the 2008 scenario, when the NPP lost power, and to fully support Dr. Bawumia in the 2024 elections.

“We have two candidates in this race: one, a failed former president, and the other, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. In Ghana’s history, four individuals have had the privilege to lead as presidents—Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, John Dramani Mahama, and myself. Among us, only John Mahama was denied a second term, and the reason is clear—he performed poorly,” the President remarked.

Throughout his tour, Mahama aims to engage with voters across various constituencies, seeking their support ahead of the upcoming December 7 elections.

His itinerary kicks off with a courtesy call to the Western Regional House of Chiefs, where he will pay his respects to the traditional leaders.

He will also meet with religious figures in the region before proceeding to visit key constituencies such as Wassa East, Shama, Essikadu-Ketan, Sekondi, Effia, Kwesimintsim, and Takoradi.

A leader who lets guinea fowls escape is not fit to lead again – Bawumia warns

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged Ghanaians to firmly oppose the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming December 7 elections.

During a campaign rally in Saboba on Saturday, November 23, 2024, Bawumia accused the NDC of failing to develop the northern regions and mishandling funds meant for progress.

He specifically targeted the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), a project launched by the NDC government to advance northern development, and claimed that funds allocated to it were misused.

Bawumia highlighted the guinea fowl farming initiative under SADA, which he argued had no real benefits for the people, as an example of this mismanagement.

In his harsh critique of Mahama, Bawumia accused the former president of overseeing the squander of hundreds of millions of cedis intended for the north’s development.

He also pointed out the lack of any significant SADA projects in the region, as evidence of the NDC’s failure to deliver on its promises.

The SADA guinea fowl project became a symbol of alleged corruption and inefficiency during Mahama’s tenure.

Bawumia mocked the claim that the guinea fowls had flown to Burkina Faso, a statement that became a point of ridicule in political circles.

“In this election, there are two of us, isn’t it? Myself and the former president. During his time, all the money, hundreds of millions that were given to him [John Dramani Mahama] to develop the north, he said he was raring guinea fowls.

“Guineafowls under SADA and we have not seen one SADA project in the five northern regions. Is there a SADA project in Saboba?

“We asked him, where are the guinea fowls and he said they have flown to Burkina Faso. And today, he says he wants to come back. Do you want him to come back?”

Tamale SHS gets a 35-seater bus donation from Ibrahim Mahama

On Friday, November 22, 2024, CEO of Engineers & Planners Ltd and Dzata Cement Ltd, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, generously donated a brand-new 35-seater bus to his alma mater, Tamale Senior High School (TAMASCO).

The donation was made by his Special Aide, Rafik Mahama, during a student durbar held at the school’s campus in Tamale, where the Old Tamascan Association was present.

Rafik Mahama explained that Mr. Ibrahim Mahama’s goal is to improve the lives of students at TAMASCO and uplift the less privileged members of society.

He conveyed Mr. Mahama’s regret for not being able to attend in person due to prior commitments but emphasized the hope that the donation would alleviate transportation difficulties on campus and inspire students to work hard towards their goals.

The headmaster, who received the bus on behalf of the school, expressed his deep gratitude for Mr. Mahama’s continued support.

He noted that the donation would significantly ease the school’s transportation challenges, particularly for the NSMQ team.

Furthermore, the headmaster highlighted that as an alumnus, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama is also funding the construction of a 1200-bed ultra-modern dormitory for TAMASCO, which aims to resolve accommodation shortages for students.

Work on the dormitory project, which began last September, is now 90% complete. Originally planned to house 700 students, the dormitory’s capacity was increased to 1200 beds following expert advice, and the entire project is being fully funded by Mr. Ibrahim Mahama.

Napo mistakenly tells electorates to vote for Mahama

Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, inadvertently urged voters to back National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama during a campaign speech.

The incident occurred during Napo’s visit to a constituency to promote his candidacy and the NPP’s vision. While addressing the crowd, Napo mistakenly urged Ghanaians to support “John Dramani Mahama” instead of his party’s flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia.

In a moment of confusion, Napo was seen holding the hand of Mr. Robbert, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, as he repeated his plea to support Mahama. Realizing his error after a brief clarification, Napo quickly corrected himself, stating that he had intended to mention Bawumia’s name rather than Mahama’s.

The slip of the tongue has drawn attention across the political spectrum, with the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, seizing the opportunity to mock his opponents. Speaking during a youth engagement event in the Volta Region, Mahama referenced President Nana Akufo-Addo’s recent verbal blunder, where the president mistakenly mentioned “Akufo-Addo-Mahama administration” while listing his government’s achievements.

Quoting scripture, Mahama humorously remarked, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh. So when the president is talking about his administration and he says ‘Akufo-Addo-Mahama administration,’ oh, this is unpardonable. It means he dreamt about me the night before!”

Mahama’s lighthearted comments sparked laughter and cheers from the crowd, as he suggested that these frequent slips of the tongue from NPP leaders signaled an unusual preoccupation with him.

Mahama’s return to power would be “very frightening” – Appietus

Renowned Ghanaian music producer Appiah Dankwah, popularly known as Appietus, has expressed his deep concern over the potential return of former President John Mahama.

He explained that his fear of Mahama’s comeback is why he is actively supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid.

“If voted into office again, Mahama will only have four years to serve, and so when he does anything we don’t like, we can’t use losing an election to frighten him,” he posited.

“At the end of the day, I’m afraid that Bawumia will lose for Mahama to be our president again, so I have to campaign for Bawumia to win and continue the good works.

“Mahama has only four years to serve, so it’s very frightening for him to come again because we can’t do anything to him if he comes and doesn’t perform,” he told the host in an interview on Cape Coast’s Property FM.

  • What good did you do as president? – Bawumia to Mahama

What good did you do as president? – Bawumia to Mahama

The Vice President and NPP Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has raised questions about former President Mahama’s desire to return to the presidency.

He pointed out that Mahama was ousted in 2016 due to his inability to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.

Mahama, who assumed the presidency after the death of President Atta Mills, was elected in 2012.

However, his time in office was marred by numerous challenges, particularly the ongoing energy crisis, also known as “dumsor,” which dominated his administration. This failure ultimately led to his defeat in the 2016 elections.

Speaking to a large crowd in Adugyama, Ahafo Ano South East, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that Mahama’s poor track record should give Ghanaians pause about his return. He pointed out that, despite being given the chance to lead, Mahama was unable to effectively manage the country’s affairs.

“He was given the opportunity to be President and he could not perform. He was removed for non-performance and the NPP, which took over, has done better in every field,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“He could not even provide chalk. He left us in an energy crisis or dumsor for 4 years. He cancelled teacher and nursing training allowances. He collapsed ambulance service and collapsed the NHIS,” Dr. Bawumia recalled, highlighting the failures of the Mahama regime.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted several key failures of Mahama’s presidency, including his inability to provide basic supplies like chalk, the persistent energy crisis, and the cancellation of teacher and nursing training allowances.

He also mentioned the collapse of the ambulance service and NHIS under Mahama’s leadership.

“That is why in the 2016 election, he was removed for non-performance. And now he says he wants to come back.”

“The question is, what is he coming to do? Is it the dumsor Mahama wants to bring back or the runaway guinea fowls? What great thing did he do that he wants to come back?” Dr. Bawumia asked.

In contrast, Dr. Bawumia pointed to the NPP’s achievements, claiming they have significantly outperformed Mahama’s government in terms of job creation, agricultural development, and infrastructure projects.

He emphasized that the NPP has built more roads, factories, airports, schools, hospitals, and other key facilities than Mahama’s administration did.

“We have created more jobs than you. Improved agriculture and industry more than you. We have built factories, roads and railways more than you. We have built more airports than you, interchanges than you, more hospitals than you, schools more than you, sanitation facilities more than you, astro turfs more than you.”

Fake news on social media comes from the Jubilee House – Mahama insists

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has accused the Jubilee House of orchestrating a campaign of fake news on social media intended to undermine him and his political efforts.

Speaking at a mini-rally in the Asene Manso Akroso constituency in the Eastern Region on Tuesday, Mahama alleged that the seat of government has become the hub of misinformation targeting him and others.

His comments followed a disclaimer issued by the Chief of Akyem Akroso, Nana Kwabena Ofori, who denied reports that he had endorsed NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during a recent visit.

Mahama urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant and verify information, cautioning them against falling victim to misinformation campaigns as the 2024 elections approach.

“While Nana was speaking, he said journalists should be careful and not misconstrue him. Nana, it is not the journalists; it is the Jubilee House. That is where people are misconstrued. It is called fake news when what you have not said is reported as something you have said.

“It is not the right thing, but they have done it to me, they have done it to you, and a lot of people. So, all fake news on social media comes from the Jubilee House,” he stated.

Black Stars didn’t qualify for AFCON due to NPP’s poor governance – Mahama

Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has blamed the poor performance of the Black Stars on the declining state of the country under the current administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In light of the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, Mahama pointed to the team’s struggles as a reflection of the broader challenges Ghana is facing under the current government.

Speaking to a crowd at the Akim Oda lorry station on Tuesday, November 19, during his five-day tour of the Eastern Region, Mahama urged Ghanaians to vote for change in the upcoming elections.

He emphasized that the country’s direction needs to shift in order to restore hope, progress, and national pride, especially through the revival of the Black Stars.

Mahama called for a renewed focus on Ghana’s development, believing that revitalizing the Black Stars would help restore the country’s spirit and pride.

“We have lost everything. Even the Black Stars team, which we used as our source of entertainment, is now in its worst state.”

“For the past 20 years, anytime it is time for AFCON, the Black Stars will take part. But we have failed to even make it through qualifiers. We allowed ourselves and the likes of Sudan, a war-torn country that has qualified for AFCON and Black Stars couldn’t. It is all because of the bad governance we have been subjected to for the past eight years.”

“But democracy has allowed us to change government every four years. So, we have another opportunity on December 7 to change this government. Let’s do that peacefully,” he stated.

  • Yaa-Naa will vote for Mahama and NDC – Basintale tells Napo

Yaa-Naa will vote for Mahama and NDC – Basintale tells Napo

Deputy National Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, has dismissed remarks made by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, the running mate for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing them as misguided.

Mr. Basintale’s comments come in response to a statement NAPO made during a visit to Yaa-Naa Bukali Mahama II, the Overlord of Dagbon, in Yendi.

During the visit, NAPO controversially described voting for the NDC as “haram”—a term meaning forbidden in Islam—for Muslims. He further asserted that it would be inappropriate for an Imam to pray for the return of former President John Mahama to power.

“Two weeks ago, the running mate of the NPP called NAPO visited the Overlord of Dagbon, and when he came, he made a statement that if you are a Muslim or a Dagomba and you vote for the NDC or John Mahama, God will punish you,” Basintale recounted.

“I am standing here to tell him that in the olden days, when one becomes mad, he or she is brought to Dagbon for treatment, and he shouldn’t bring his things here.”

Mr. Basintale criticized NAPO for attempting to impose religious interpretations on political choices, emphasizing that such matters are deeply personal and should not be dictated by politicians.

“What he does not know is that Yaa-Naa is aware that it is the NDC that built the Tamale Teaching Hospital. The Yaa-Naa knows that it is the NDC that asphalted the Eastern Corridor Road. The Yaa-Naa knows that it is the NDC that expanded the Tamale Teaching Hospital. So, he will vote for Mahama and the NDC,” Basintale said.

The NDC official firmly rejected NAPO’s claims, questioning his authority to declare support for the NDC as sinful. He expressed confidence that the people of Dagbon, including the revered Yaa-Naa, would support the NDC in the 2024 general elections, given the party’s track record of development in the region.

“Political choices are a personal decision and should not be framed as a matter of religious doctrine. Even the respected Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Bukali Mahama II, will vote for Mahama and the NDC,” Basintale reiterated.

  • Akufo-Addo enjoyed benefits of economic decisions taken by Mahama – Pablo

Akufo-Addo enjoyed benefits of economic decisions taken by Mahama – Pablo

National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, popularly known as Pablo, has criticized the performance of the Akufo-Addo administration, claiming it benefited from the economic policies implemented by former President John Mahama.

Speaking on Nhyira FM’s Kuro Yi Mu Nsem show with Barima Kofi Dawson, Mr. Opare Addo attributed Ghana’s impressive economic performance in 2017 and 2018 to the policies of John Mahama and the IMF program initiated during his tenure.

“John Mahama’s 2017 budget sustained our economy to the end of 2017 through to 2018. Under President Mahama, the economy performed better, but under Akufo-Addo, it has worsened. This is because the NDC entered the IMF program just before leaving office. The benefits of this program and other economic policies by Mahama were supposed to be realized from 2017, which Akufo-Addo came to enjoy and even extended to look like he is managing the economy well. Today, he is the worst manager of our economy,” Opare Addo remarked.

Pablo argued that the true state of the economy under President Akufo-Addo should be assessed from 2019, after Ghana exited the IMF program. He pointed out the depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar and its impact on businesses, describing the current economic situation as dire.

“They promised to stabilize the cedi with their economic messiah, Dr. Bawumia. Now, the dollar is 17 cedis. Many businesses have collapsed; you import something today, and tomorrow the dollar has increased, and you need more cedis to import that same thing again. In 2016, 10 cedis bought kenkey with fish, and 20 cedis made fufu for the family. Today, those amounts don’t go as far, with cement now costing 110 cedis. No wonder Ghanaians are angry,” he stated.

Touching on high food inflation, Pablo attributed the worsening cost of living to the government’s mismanagement, which he believes has angered many Ghanaians.

On the issue of the Free Senior High School policy, Mr. Opare Addo acknowledged its importance and emphasized that the NDC would improve its implementation if it returns to power.

“No government can cancel Free SHS; we must fix its flaws to improve it, and that’s what the NDC is advocating for,” he asserted.

It is a one-touch victory for NDC in 2024 elections – Mahama

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has declared that the NDC will secure a one-touch victory in the upcoming 2024 elections, urging Ghanaians to vote overwhelmingly for the party to ensure a decisive win.

Mahama called on supporters to turn out in large numbers to deliver a resounding mandate, emphasizing that a strong victory is essential for implementing the changes they envision for the nation.

He highlighted the need for vigilance throughout the electoral process, urging all Ghanaians, especially NDC supporters, to stay alert and actively protect their ballots from any potential interference to guarantee a fair outcome.

The former President likened the NDC’s campaign to a “communal labour,” stressing the importance of collective effort in securing victory. He described the campaign as a nationwide movement that requires the commitment of every supporter, united in the mission to “rescue” the country from its current challenges.

In his remarks, Mahama expressed concerns about the judiciary’s impartiality if the election results were to be challenged in court. He suggested that the NDC might not receive a fair hearing, underscoring the urgency for vigilance and the need for a clear, unquestionable victory.

“We have to win with a huge margin so that they will not think of going to the court. Because they have packed the courts with their people, and we will not get justice,” he stated.

“This election, we are winning one touch at the polling station. We are not going to the court,” Mahama declared.

He concluded by encouraging party members and supporters to remain focused, united, and determined in the final phase of the campaign.

Mahama reiterated that the NDC’s success depends not only on a strong electoral showing but also on the unwavering commitment of supporters to protect their votes and ensure a transparent and credible election process.

It’s been 8 years of unfulfilled promises from NPP, pick Mahama – Joyce Bawah

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Campaign Spokesperson for the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for failing to deliver on its promises over the past eight years.

She is therefore urging Ghanaians to support Mahama in the upcoming election as a solution-oriented leader committed to the people.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Bawah Mogtari emphasized Mahama‘s dedication to tackling the nation’s economic challenges and improving the standard of living for all citizens.

“Dear voter, after eight years of unfulfilled promises from the NPP, we as Ghanaians surely deserve better, a leader who doesn’t just talk but delivers. And that is John Dramani Mahama. He has a track record, a visionary leader and a unifier and will work for you,” she posted.

She portrayed Mahama as a compassionate and visionary leader who has a clear plan to guide the country forward, describing him as someone deeply invested in the long-term well-being of Ghanaians.

Highlighting Mahama’s previous tenure, Bawah Mogtari pointed to his achievements in infrastructure, including improvements in education, health, roads, and public utilities, as evidence of his commitment to national progress.

With the right policies, Bawah Mogtari claimed, Mahama would stabilize the Ghanaian currency, create sustainable employment for the youth, and adeptly navigate the global economic landscape.

  • Bawumia jabs Mahama for ‘worst economic performance’ amid economic distress

Bawumia jabs Mahama for ‘worst economic performance’ amid economic distress

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has sharply criticized former President John Dramani Mahama’s economic record, labeling it as the weakest among the Fourth Republic’s leaders.

Speaking at the Ghana CEO Presidential Gala held at the Movenpick Hotel on Thursday, November 7, Dr. Bawumia insisted that his assessment was based on economic data rather than partisan bias.

He highlighted that under Mahama’s administration, Ghana faced considerable economic setbacks, including high inflation, sluggish growth, and increasing unemployment—issues he believes set the nation on a vulnerable path.

Dr. Bawumia noted that these indicators starkly contrast with the economic gains made under the NPP, pointing to what he considers a decisive shortfall in Mahama’s economic governance. He underscored the importance of accountable leadership and sound economic management, urging attendees to examine the measurable impacts of Mahama’s policies.

“It is important to note that notwithstanding the impact of the global economic crisis on our economy, it may come as a shock to some (including the former president himself) that when it comes to the 4th Republic, Former President Mahama has the worst economic performance of all Presidents in the Fourth Republic,” he stated. “However, he seems not to understand that and continues to talk about our economic performance as if his was better.”

Dr. Bawumia made the comment at a time when Ghana is facing economic difficulties, including high inflation, public debt, and rising costs of food and transportation—issues some Ghanaians attribute to the current government.

Nevertheless, the Vice President has expressed confidence in his ability to address these challenges should he assume the presidency, pledging to continue building on the economic progress made by the Akufo-Addo administration.

  • Mahama will build an economy that works for everyone – Osman Ayariga

Mahama will build an economy that works for everyone – Osman Ayariga

The Deputy National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Osman Ayariga, has affirmed that former President John Dramani Mahama is committed to building an inclusive economy that benefits all Ghanaians, with a particular focus on empowering young people to become successful entrepreneurs.

In an interview with Joy Prime on Tuesday, November 5, Ayariga highlighted Mahama’s vision for a transformed Ghana, where the youth play a central role in economic growth and have the resources needed to establish and expand their own businesses.

Ayariga noted that Mahama plans to tackle pressing economic issues such as high inflation and unemployment, creating a foundation that allows young people to start businesses and generate jobs.

“Mr. Mahama is focused on building an economy that works for everyone, especially the youth,” Ayariga said, underscoring the former president’s commitment to reversing economic challenges and placing youth empowerment at the center of his agenda.

He added that, under Mahama’s leadership, the NDC aims to implement policies that will give young entrepreneurs access to finance, mentorship, and skills training, removing obstacles that hinder their potential.

According to Ayariga, Mahama’s experience and commitment make him well-equipped to bring about this youth-focused economic change, which he sees as essential for Ghana’s future development.

“Empowering young people is not just an option; it’s a necessity for Ghana’s future,” he concluded, calling on young Ghanaians to support Mahama and the NDC’s vision for an inclusive, entrepreneurial economy.

  • Mahama is the next President of Ghana – Joyce Bawah boldly declares

Mahama is the next President of Ghana – Joyce Bawah boldly declares

Campaign Spokesperson and Special Aide to National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has responded sharply to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) claims about Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s potential victory in the upcoming December elections.

Addressing statements made by First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joseph Osei Owusu, who asserted that polls show Bawumia leading, Bawah urged the NPP to “tickle yourself and laugh,” suggesting their confidence may be misplaced.

In a post on X on Monday, November 4, Bawah declared that John Dramani Mahama is set to win the election, emphasizing that the NPP’s assertions reflect a disconnect with the realities facing Ghanaians.

“The NPP’s strategy in this election seems to be ‘tickle yourself and laugh.’ If not, why would their party’s leading figures be on a deliberate self-serving run across the country, spreading inaccurate and fake research outcomes to tickle themselves and their followers?” she questioned.

She noted that the sentiments of the electorate do not align with claims of Bawumia’s popularity and suggested that the NPP’s self-assuredness might lead them to a surprising outcome on election day, with them “laughing at the wrong side of their mouth.”

“Here are the facts, and they shall remain so: Bawumia has trailed Mahama in every credible research study since 2022, including the two by the NIB. The NDC also leads the NPP by a meaningful number of seats in Parliament. In fact, according to the NPP’s own research findings, seats like Atwima Mponua, Offinso North, and Dome are difficult for the NPP to win,” she posted, underscoring her confidence in the NDC’s standing in the upcoming elections.

Bawah highlighted the importance of listening to the voices of Ghanaians, who she believes are increasingly disillusioned with the current administration and its policies, and expressed her belief that Mahama’s path to the presidency is secure.

  • I’ll open an inquiry into the sale of stolen government lands – Mahama

I’ll open an inquiry into the sale of stolen government lands – Mahama

Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his commitment to scrutinizing the contentious sale of government-owned lands if elected.

During the Governance Forum held in Accra on Thursday, October 31, Mahama emphasized the significance of transparency and accountability in government land transactions.

He pledged to launch an inquiry into the sale of state lands across the country, explaining that his focus would not be limited to the Greater Accra Region but would also encompass other regions.

Mahama highlighted his dedication to responsible governance and preventing potential misuse of government assets, underlining his aim to restore public trust in state resource management for the benefit of all Ghanaians.

“As I assured the chiefs of the Ga State, we will open an inquiry into the sale of stolen government lands, and the implementation of the Accra Redevelopment policy,” Mahama stated, reiterating his intent to address the issue transparently.

He further assured, “Let me assure you, the investigation of government-looted lands will not only be restricted to Greater Accra. We are aware of the developments that have taken place in Kumasi, Ho, and Tamale.”

Additionally, Mahama noted that the inquiry would extend across all 16 regions, demonstrating his commitment to rigorous implementation. “And we extend the ORAL in all the 16 regions and commit rigorously to implementing this inquiry,” he affirmed.

  • Nobody looks up to Ghana anymore; our economy, judiciary are compromised – Mahama

Nobody looks up to Ghana anymore; our economy, judiciary are compromised – Mahama

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate John Mahama has lamented that Ghana is no longer seen as a model for democracy, citing issues with the country’s judiciary and economy.

Speaking on the second day of his tour in the Northern Region, Mahama expressed concerns over the perceived lack of independence within the Judiciary and the weakening of state institutions, which he said have led to global disappointment in Ghana’s governance.

“Anywhere I go, the question people outside Ghana ask me is, ‘Ghana, what happened to you? Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana, what happened to you?’” Mahama stated. “Everybody looked up to Ghana as the model of democracy, today, we are a bad model of democracy, our judiciary is not independent, all our state institutions have been destroyed, people looked up to Ghana as a country that is a model of economic management, today, our economy is in shambles.”

Mahama’s remarks come amid a legal dispute involving Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin over the declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant.

After Speaker Bagbin’s declaration, Afenyo-Markin sought a stay from the Supreme Court, which ultimately suspended the Speaker’s action. In response, Speaker Bagbin filed a suit to challenge the Supreme Court’s ruling, asserting that the Court lacked jurisdiction in this matter.

Following submissions from all parties, including the Attorney-General, the Supreme Court upheld its decision, maintaining that the Speaker’s appeal was without merit.

  • You’ve got no level because you’re a one-term president – Akufo-Addo jabs Mahama

    You’ve got no level because you’re a one-term president – Akufo-Addo jabs Mahama

President Akufo-Addo has taken a swipe at former President John Dramani Mahama, highlighting that Mahama remains Ghana’s only one-term president.

During a tour of the Ahafo Region on Tuesday, October 29, President Akufo-Addo suggested that Mahama’s lack of a second term calls into question his credibility and political influence, implying that he should not boast of a higher “level” than others.

This remark follows Mahama’s recent refusal to engage in a debate with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

President Akufo-Addo argued that Mahama has no grounds to claim superiority over Dr. Bawumia, stating that Mahama’s tenure as a one-term president does not place him above the Vice President.

“Mahama says he won’t debate Bawumia because Bawumia is not on his level. Really? He is not his class, but for me, I don’t know what class Mahama has for which reason he says he won’t debate Bawumia.”

“For me, the only class I know is that since the Fourth Republic, five persons have had the opportunity to be presidents of this country but unfortunately one person couldn’t complete his term.”

He urged supporters in Ahafo to back Bawumia in the upcoming elections, stressing that his Vice President’s leadership and contributions stand as a testament to his capacity to lead Ghana effectively.

Speaking to supporters in the Ningo Prampram Constituency in Greater Accra, Mahama dismissed the idea, stating that debating Bawumia would only serve to elevate the Vice President to his level. He insisted that he would rather debate Dr. Bawumia, as he is not obligated to engage a Vice President on matters of policy.

Bawumia hits Mahama with 50 questions, intensifies call for debate

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, has fired back at former President John Mahama by posing 50 pointed questions about his track record, while renewing his call for a direct debate to settle their policy differences.

In a sharp response to Mahama’s recent five-question challenge, Dr. Bawumia criticized the former president for what he termed “flimsy questions,” and urged him to engage in an open debate for the Ghanaian public to assess their policies, achievements, and visions.

“I would have thought he would be man enough to face me in a one-on-one debate, instead of hiding behind these questions,” Dr. Bawumia remarked, further offering to let moderators ask him Mahama’s questions during the proposed debate.

Bawumia’s 50-question counter challenged Mahama on issues ranging from his stance on free education, with pointed reminders of ads that opposed the NPP’s free Senior High School (SHS) policy, to economic management under his administration, particularly the prolonged Dumsor crisis. “If your economic management was so effective, how did Dumsor persist for over four years?” Bawumia asked.

  • Dollar selling at GHS17; when are you resigning? – Mahama quizzes Akufo-Addo

Dollar selling at GHS17; when are you resigning? – Mahama quizzes Akufo-Addo

Former President John Mahama has challenged President Akufo-Addo to consider resigning over the Ghana cedi’s sharp depreciation.

Speaking at a rally in Lugni, Wulensi constituency, in the Northern region, Mahama reminded the public that Akufo-Addo, as a candidate, once suggested that the late President John Evans Atta Mills should resign when the cedi was trading at GH2 to the dollar.

Now, with the cedi nearing GH¢17 to the dollar, Mahama questioned whether Akufo-Addo would follow his own advice and step down under the current economic circumstances.

“He’s on video, and he said that Kufour’s time, Gh¢1 [equals] one dollar, Mahama and Mills time, two cedis, one dollar, and that if he were Mills and Mahama, he would resign. I’m asking him, today one dollar, 17 cedis, would he resign?” he quizzed.

The NDC flagbearer asked the president to “tell the people of Ghana when he’s going to resign.”.

Mr Mahama appealed to the Independent Parliamentary Candidate for the area, Stanley, who broke away from the party, to put his ambitions aside and rejoin the NDC.

He said that breaking away was only going to affect his political career because the NDC was going to win massively in the Parliamentary and presidential elections.

Speaking at Bimbilla in the Nanumba North Municipality, former President Mahama opined that members of the international community have been asking questions about Ghana’s ‘deteriorating’ democracy.

“Anywhere I go, the question people outside in the world ask me is, ‘Ghana, what happened to you?’” he claimed.

Mr Mahama said Ghana was not only a model of democracy but also a model of economic management but was quick to note that the country’s democracy and economy were in shambles.

He said, “Everybody looked up to Ghana as the model of democracy; today, we’re a quack model of democracy. Our judiciary is not independent; all our state institutions have been destroyed. People looked up to Ghana as a country that was a model of economic management; today our economy is in shambles.”

Mr Mahama was later at Ngani in the Yendi constituency on Tuesday evening,, where he addressed a mammoth rally.

  • The only person who can continue my work is Bawumia – Akufo-Addo

The only person who can continue my work is Bawumia – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has declared his firm belief that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the best candidate to succeed him and lead Ghana forward.

Speaking during his tour of the Ahafo Region on Tuesday, October 29, President Akufo-Addo praised Dr. Bawumia’s qualifications, emphasizing that his vision and leadership abilities make him uniquely suited to advance Ghana to a new level of development.

Highlighting his dedication to the country’s future, the President noted that he is motivated to ensure Ghana’s progress remains in the hands of someone capable.

According to President Akufo-Addo, only Dr. Bawumia, with his strong dedication and proven track record, has the right experience to guide the nation’s development. In his remarks, he contrasted Dr. Bawumia with National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Dramani Mahama, citing Mr. Mahama’s tenure from 2012 to 2016 as evidence of limited leadership and economic management skills.

“As I am about to leave, I have one plea; as you all know, if any president is about to leave office, he cares about who is succeeding him. My plea is that the only person who can continue the work I have done and move Ghana forward, taking the country to an advanced stage, is my Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said. “I can vouch for his capabilities and his ability to lead the country, and I will not leave Ghana for someone who can’t do the job. God will not allow that to happen.”

President Akufo-Addo urged Ahafo Region residents to support Dr. Bawumia’s vision by voting decisively in his favour, underscoring that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership would ensure the continuity of Ghana’s development path.

Reflecting on Dr. Bawumia’s journey, President Akufo-Addo noted, “Dr. Bawumia was the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana when I brought him into politics. When I first picked him in 2008, even though we lost, I kept faith with him for the 2012 election, which we also lost, but God being so good, we won the 2016 election, and I have not seen any bad thing from him since I first met him.”

Make Ghana and Africa proud – Mahama tells Ayorkor Botchwey

Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has extended his congratulations to Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, following her historic election as the Commonwealth Secretary-General.

In a message on X, Mahama encouraged Ayorkor Botchwey to make Ghana and Africa proud in her new role.

“Congratulations Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey on your election as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. You will be joining a special group of diplomats to help make the Commonwealth and the world a better place. I am particularly excited that after Patricia Scotland, we have another distinguished female at the head of the Commonwealth. Make Ghana and Africa proud with your leadership of the 56-member Organisation,” Mahama stated.

Ayorkor Botchwey’s appointment, confirmed at the 27th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2024) held in Apia, Samoa, marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first Ghanaian and African woman to lead the 56-member Commonwealth. She succeeds Patricia Scotland, Baroness Scotland of the United Kingdom, who had held the position since 2016.

Emerging as the top candidate after a rigorous selection process against contenders such as Senator Joshua Setipa of Lesotho and Dr. Mamadou Tangara of The Gambia, Botchwey expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged her dedication to the organization. In her acceptance speech, she underscored the importance of the Commonwealth’s mission, calling it “the most consequential body after the UN,” and voiced her intent to serve with purpose.

“I care deeply about the Commonwealth and its diverse people,” she said. “I am committed to strengthening the organization’s influence to drive prosperity and resilience for its 2.68 billion citizens.” Botchwey outlined her priorities, including fortifying democratic institutions, championing human rights, and addressing climate change, with a focus on aiding small and island nations.

Her goals align with this year’s CHOGM theme, “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming Our Common Wealth,” signaling a future-focused agenda for the Commonwealth.

Ayorkor Botchwey’s new position marks a proud moment for Ghana, as citizens, leaders, and well-wishers rally behind her with hopes that her tenure will positively impact the global stage.

Emphasizing Mahama’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the nation’s resources, Madam Mogtari, a former Deputy Transport Minister, highlighted his dedication to transparency and accountability in governance.

Mogtari reiterated that Mahama’s leadership would bring responsible governance practices that honor the rule of law, particularly in managing public funds. She stressed the importance of accountability and transparency, qualities that she believes Mahama exemplifies, making him the right choice for Ghana’s future.

Parliamentary recess prevented a clash between arms of govt – Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has commended Speaker Alban Bagbin for suspending Parliament to prevent a potential clash between Ghana’s judiciary and legislative arms.

Mahama’s remarks followed the recent expulsion of four Members of Parliament by Speaker Bagbin and a Supreme Court decision to stay the Speaker’s ruling, leading to an indefinite adjournment of Parliament on Tuesday, October 22.

Speaking at the 80th anniversary celebration of the St. Joseph the Worker Anglican Church in Accra on Sunday, October 27, Mahama highlighted the urgency of constitutional reforms to address Ghana’s evolving political challenges.

He noted that the country’s governance structures must be strengthened to prevent future conflicts, calling for a thorough review of the constitution to plug existing loopholes.

Mahama also expressed concerns about the state of Ghana’s democracy, pointing to the recent parliamentary crisis as a sign of deeper issues within the political system.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, announced the indefinite adjournment of parliamentary proceedings after a tumultuous day in the Chamber, characterised by heated disputes between Members of Parliament (MPs) from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the question of which caucus holds the Majority.

Meanwhile, the Majority Caucus in Parliament has submitted a formal memo to the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, calling for an urgent meeting of the House.

  • This is a sign of victory for NDC – Mahama on NPP losing 3 Parliamentary seats

This is a sign of victory for NDC – Mahama on NPP losing 3 Parliamentary seats

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has viewed Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant as a positive indication of the NDC’s upcoming success in the December 2024 elections.

On Thursday, October 17, 2024, Bagbin approved a motion submitted by former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu.

The motion argued that four MPs—Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kojo Asante (Suhum), Andrew Asiamah (Fomena), and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central)—had lost their seats due to their decision to run as independent candidates in the upcoming elections, an act considered a violation of constitutional rules governing parliamentary membership.

The NDC views this ruling as a favorable turn of events, with Mahama addressing supporters during a rally in Ningo-Prampram on Thursday, October 17, suggesting that the vacancies are a divine sign pointing to the party’s electoral victory.

He encouraged NDC members to remain united and focused in the final stretch leading to the elections to secure the party’s success.

“If the report I am hearing from parliament is true, then something historic has just happened. The report I am hearing is that the speaker has declared 4 seats vacant. Of the 4 seats, 3 are from the NPP and one is from the NDC.

“So if those seats have been declared vacant, then it means in the life of one parliament, the minority has turned to the majority and the majority has turned to the minority. So for me, God is even showing a sign of what is going to happen, but we have to make it a reality on 7th December 2024.

  • Ghanaians want Mahama to debate Bawumia on key issues of our country – Akufo-Addo

Ghanaians want Mahama to debate Bawumia on key issues of our country – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has thrown a challenge to former President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to engage in a public debate with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

During his tour of the Northern Region, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the growing calls from Ghanaians for a debate between the two leaders, noting that such a discourse is essential for informed decision-making ahead of the elections.

According to the President, Dr. Bawumia is a reliable and clear-minded leader who has proven his competence over time, making him more than capable of debating Mahama on the key issues facing the country. Akufo-Addo questioned why Mahama appears reluctant to confront Bawumia in a public forum, asserting that this hesitation raises doubts about Mahama’s ability to address critical national matters.

“The people of Ghana deserve the debate so they can see who is doing what and who is saying what,” Akufo-Addo said. He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, particularly regarding crucial policies such as the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) initiative. The President pointedly asked Mahama to clarify his position on the policy, stating, “Mr. Mahama, which is which? What should the Ghanaian people take from you as your position on the Free SHS policy? Is it safe with you, and are you going to continue with it or are you going to cancel it?”

Akufo-Addo argued that it is essential for Ghanaians to hear both candidates articulate their visions for the future, especially on critical policies that impact the nation’s development. He reiterated that Vice President Bawumia is ready and willing to debate Mahama, calling on the former President to stop avoiding the opportunity for a direct exchange of ideas.

Akufo-Addo insisted that no one should be allowed to hold the highest office in the land if they cannot provide clear answers on fundamental issues like education. He urged Mahama to accept the challenge, noting that Ghanaians deserve a transparent and open debate between the two leaders before making their choice in the upcoming elections.

  • You can’t trust your future with Mahama; reject him – Akufo-Addo tells Ghanaians

You can’t trust your future with Mahama; reject him – Akufo-Addo tells Ghanaians

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has raised concerns about the capability of former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, to effectively govern Ghana if re-elected.

Akufo-Addo warned that a Mahama presidency might threaten critical national policies, including the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.

Addressing the chiefs and residents of the North-East Region, he cautioned that voting for Mahama in the upcoming December 7 elections could result in the discontinuation of initiatives like Free SHS, which has provided educational opportunities for thousands of Ghanaian students.

Akufo-Addo referenced recent statements by Mahama, which he believes suggest the NDC candidate might cancel or undermine the Free SHS policy.

He urged Mahama to clarify his position on the matter, stressing that the people of Ghana deserve transparency on his plans for the program.

“Let’s ask him [Mahama], which is which? What should the Ghanaian people take as your real position? Because this chopping and changing, chopping and changing, is a very difficult thing for some of us to understand.

“What should we believe? Are you going to change it? Are you going to cancel it? Are you going to improve it? Because every time you open your mouth, you say a different thing.

“I don’t think a man who talks like that, who wants the supreme office of our country, is somebody who can be trusted.”

“Just watch, nothing will happen to them” – Mahama on NPP-NDC Mamobi clash

Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has expressed concern over the culture of impunity surrounding political violence in Ghana, particularly in the aftermath of the recent clash between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC in Mamobi.

The violent confrontation, which took place on Sunday, October 13, left nine people injured, two of whom remain hospitalized while seven have since been treated and discharged. The cause of the clash remains unclear, but eyewitnesses reported that a heated argument between the rival party supporters quickly escalated into violence, resulting in injuries.

Addressing the situation, Mahama criticized the lack of accountability for politically motivated violence, stating that impunity continues to embolden those responsible for such acts.

“It may not have led to the loss of lives, but people had weapons and they fired shots and injured people. The reason this continues is because there is impunity. Those who have the weapons know that nothing will happen to them. They will do it and get away with it,” Mahama said.

He went on to highlight how political connections often shield perpetrators from facing justice, fueling further violence. “Because they are operatives of the system. They are people who belong to the political establishment. I saw one clear picture of one of them holding his pistol. Just watch, nothing will happen to them. And as long as nothing happens to them, it will continue,” Mahama remarked.

In response to the violence, the Ghana Police Service swiftly intervened to restore calm in Mamobi, deploying officers to the area to prevent further clashes. An intelligence-led operation has resulted in the arrest of one individual, while the police continue their manhunt for others involved in the violence.

The disturbances, which escalated tensions in the community, resulted in seven of the injured receiving treatment and being discharged. However, two victims remain hospitalized, with authorities closely monitoring their condition.

  • 2024 polls: There is a wind of change, embrace it – Mahama charges Ghanaians

2024 polls: There is a wind of change, embrace it – Mahama charges Ghanaians

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has urged Ghanaians to cast their votes for him in the upcoming election on December 7.

The former President emphasized that a significant change is on the horizon that will become evident on election day, encouraging Ghanaians to support this transformation.

He called upon all eligible voters to welcome this change, which aims to push the New Patriotic Party (NPP) back into opposition.

While addressing voters in the Bunkpurugu constituency of the North East region, Mr. Mahama remarked that the 2024 elections represent a struggle between a small faction of the NPP and the vast majority of citizens who are frustrated with mismanagement, corruption, the abuse of power, state capture, and a blatant disregard for the views of the Ghanaian people.

“A wind of change is blowing in this country and on 7th December, 2024, the elephant that came to town and has destroyed this country, it is time to drive back the elephant into the bush.

“It is my hope that more people from the NPP are going to come out on that day and will vote for the NDC because a lot of people in the NPP are disappointed because the promises they were made have not been fulfilled but I don’t blame you because it is the whole of Ghana that is disappointed,” he said.

The NDC and its leader John Mahama had a promising reception in the North East region.

A region which fell for the ruling regime in the 2020 elections is expected to go back to the umbrella party, the NDC.

Mr Mahama noted that, the failed leadership witnessed by Ghanaians in the last eight years will inform their decisions come December 7.

John Mahama maintains that this year’s election is a make or break for the country, urging Ghanaians to take keen interests in his rescue proposals.

He added that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has extremely retrogressed the country.

  • Owusu Bempah’s prophecies are not from God – Atta Akyea

Owusu Bempah’s prophecies are not from God – Atta Akyea

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, has dismissed recent prophecies by Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, head pastor of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, concerning the upcoming December 7 elections.

According to Atta Akyea, the prophecies should be regarded as human predictions rather than divine revelations.

On October 1, Rev. Owusu Bempah prophesied that John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), would win the 2024 elections. During a prayer session in Accra, the pastor claimed that God had decided to give Mahama another chance to lead the nation, describing him as a man with a good heart.

However, Atta Akyea, speaking in an interview with AsaasePa FM on October 2, urged Ghanaians not to place too much importance on these predictions. He argued that elections are ultimately decided by the people at the ballot box, not by supernatural forces.

“It is human projections, it couldn’t be God’s projection,” Atta Akyea emphasized. He encouraged voters to focus on policies and leadership qualities when making their decisions, rather than relying on spiritual claims.

The MP also criticized Rev. Owusu Bempah for what he described as the pastor’s involvement in political matters. “I am sad because I know Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah, he shouldn’t have allowed himself to be used at an NDC political rally in the name of a spiritual gathering for such a message to come out,” he said.

Atta Akyea further expressed his disappointment in the pastor’s recent stance, stating, “I am not happy Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah allowed himself to be contradicted in such a manner.”

Rev. Owusu Bempah, once viewed as a sympathizer of the NPP, had in the past made similar prophecies in favor of Nana Akufo-Addo, even praying for him before he became president. However, it is now believed that the pastor may have had a falling-out with the current government and President Akufo-Addo.

In conclusion, Atta Akyea reiterated that while spiritual leaders have the right to express their views, the democratic process should be allowed to run its course, with voters making informed choices based on the country’s needs and future.

The campaign forms part of his broader strategy to mobilize support and articulate his vision for the nation, with a focus on critical issues such as education, healthcare, and economic development.

  • 2024 election outcome uncertain as polls predict victory for Bawumia, Mahama

2024 election outcome uncertain as polls predict victory for Bawumia, Mahama

Uncertainty looms over the likely victor as Ghana approaches the December 2024 presidential elections, with contrasting polls painting divergent outcomes for the flagbearers of the two major political parties tipped to be the forerunners.

Recent data from Global InfoAnalytics suggests that John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), maintains his lead in the poll with 51.1% of the votes.

In contrast, a separate poll from Outcomes International indicates that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will emerge with 49.4% of the votes, while Mahama follows closely with 45.1%. This divergence in polling outcomes raises critical questions about voter sentiment and the potential for an election runoff, leaving political analysts and the electorate alike in a state of uncertainty.

The final field poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics also reveals that using the likely voters’ model, Mahama is at 49.3%, while Bawumia is at 35.9%. The race is unlikely to go into a runoff as the yearly average of the poll shows Mahama at 53% and Bawumia at 36%. Voter apathy is expected to be a challenge for the governing NPP, as 16% of voters who say they will not vote are their supporters.

Importantly, the outcome of the December elections will depend on which candidate receives greater support from their base, as well as their ability to win floating voters. The poll suggests that while Bawumia receives 88% support from his base, Mahama attracts 96%, giving him an 8-point advantage. Among floating voters, Mahama leads Bawumia 54% to 23%, a 31-point advantage.

The Outcomes International poll highlights that less than 1% of the votes will be shared among other candidates, with 5.2% still undecided. A total of 25,911 respondents were interviewed across all 276 constituencies in the country, and the survey suggests that a runoff could be inevitable, as neither major party is projected to secure an outright majority in the first round.

Furthermore, the survey indicates that 49% of respondents identify with the NPP and NDC, with a considerable 3% yet to decide their preference. While Bawumia’s campaign has targeted Muslim demographics, the poll shows a significant decline in support among this group, dropping by nearly 4% from July to October 2024.

Additionally, among first-time voters, Mahama now leads with 46%, compared to Bawumia’s 38%. Notably, Mahama has gained support from 19% of voters who previously supported Nana Akufo-Addo in 2020, with greater switches occurring in regions like Greater Accra and Central.

Mahama is said to lead in twelve regions, with Bawumia only leading in four. As both candidates navigate this complex landscape, the polls reflect a deeply competitive race, with the possibility of smaller parties influencing the final outcome. With voter dissatisfaction at 77% among respondents, and the significance of party manifestos driving voter choices, the stakes are high,

Meanwhile, a recent survey by the Office of the President suggests that a run-off in the upcoming general presidential elections could be inevitable. This implies that the two major political parties; neither the National Democratic Congress (NDC) being led by former President John Dramani Mahama nor the New Patriotic Party (NPP), with its flagbearer, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, are projected to secure an outright majority in the first round.

A total of 25,911 respondents were interviewed across all the 276 constituencies in the country. Out of this number, 12,664 (49%) were males with 13,247 (51%) being females, the survey shows.

When asked which political party they would vote for, 46.3% of the respondents mentioned the NDC and the NPP respectively while a considerable 3% are yet to decide their preference.

“The smaller parties and independent candidates shared 4.4% of the votes. This means the smaller parties have the capacity to push the elections to a run-off. Neither the NDC nor NPP can win the entire undecided component of electorates,” the survey highlighted.

In approximately 66 days, the country will reach a decisive conclusion, finalizing all projections and unveiling the true victor of the 2024 general elections.

  • Women unemployment should spur us to act – Mahama

Women unemployment should spur us to act – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has called for immediate action to address the high unemployment rate among women in Ghana.

Speaking at the launch of the NDC Women’s Manifesto on Monday, September 30, 2024, Mahama emphasized the urgent need to tackle gender inequality, particularly in the informal sector, where the majority of women lack basic social protections.

“Despite women’s significant contribution to our nation’s development, gender inequality remains pervasive, particularly in the informal sector, where 92% of workers are women, often without safety nets,” Mahama remarked.

He highlighted the importance of this sector, which contributes between 30-40% of Ghana’s GDP.

Drawing attention to statistics from the 2020 Census, Mahama revealed that poverty among women is disproportionately high. “This situation has exacerbated poverty among women, as highlighted by the 2020 Census, which indicates that of Ghana’s 7.3 million poor people, the majority—3.76 million—are women,” he stated.

Mahama expressed concern over the fact that nearly 54% of unemployed people in Ghana are women, describing it as a national challenge. “Why should poverty have a female face in Ghana, with 1.44 million women classified as extremely poor and living on less than $1.90 a day? Why should poverty have any face at all?” he questioned.

He urged that the alarming figures should not only be a wake-up call but also inspire action. “These numbers should not just shock us; they should spur us to act. Behind each number is a woman—perhaps a mother, a sister, or a daughter—who works tirelessly every day but still goes to bed hungry,” Mahama said.

Highlighting the crucial role women play in society, he stated, “They are the backbone of our communities, yet they bear the heaviest burdens of inequality. This must change.”

Mahama reiterated the NDC’s commitment to addressing these challenges through their Resetting Ghana Manifesto, with job creation being a top priority. “First and foremost, job creation is at the heart of our agenda,” he assured.

The former president outlined the NDC’s plans to implement a 24-hour economy, which would create employment opportunities for Ghanaians. “The NDC will implement a 24-Hour Economy, creating opportunities for businesses to operate around the clock in three shifts. Instead of one person working one job as a singular shift, we shall now have, for the same job, three people working in three shifts,” he explained.

He added that the initiative would lead to massive job creation and increased productivity. “Imagine the potential—thousands of new jobs created, productivity at an all-time high, and our nation reaping the benefits of a stronger economy,” Mahama said, assuring that young people and women, in particular, would benefit from this new approach.

Mahama concluded by affirming the NDC’s dedication to alleviating unemployment and poverty, promising that Ghanaians “will no longer have to suffer for jobs like before.”

No wife should be evicted without receiving her rightful share – Mahama on enacting new bill

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has promised to enact the Property Rights of Spouses Bill if he is elected in the upcoming December elections.

He emphasized that the bill is essential for protecting women’s rights within marriage, ensuring they receive fair treatment, especially in cases of separation or divorce.

Speaking at the launch of the NDC Women’s Manifesto on September 30, Mahama stated, “Marriage unites spouses, and in the event of any unfortunate circumstances, properties such as buildings and farmland should be shared equally. No man should have the authority to evict a woman without her receiving her rightful share.”

In addition, Mahama announced his intention to introduce a Domestic Workers Bill to protect vulnerable workers, predominantly women, from mistreatment and abuse.

“These people are not fed, [they are] beaten and not cared for properly. This law will protect them so that there will be an end to the abuse of domestic workers. These laws will be there to deal with such people who maltreat domestic workers,” Mahama added.

  • Govt in a hurry to sign $800m gas contract due to 10% take – Mahama

Govt in a hurry to sign $800m gas contract due to 10% take – Mahama

Former President John Mahama has warned that any individual responsible for causing financial loss to the state over a new $800 million gas processing contract will face prosecution.

During his tour of the Greater Accra Region, Mahama highlighted that the contract requires parliamentary approval, given its significant value. He cautioned that if the contract is not presented before Parliament, a future National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will ensure those involved are held accountable for any financial loss to the state.

“This week, our spokesperson on energy, John Jinapor, raised concerns about a contract they want to sign with Ghana Gas for the second gas trade. For eight years, this government has not invested in additional gas, so why are they suddenly in a hurry to sign this contract? It’s because they want to take their 10%, and even if it takes five years for the gas to come, they don’t care,” Mahama said.

He further warned, “We are cautioning everyone involved in this contract. If there is any financial loss to the state, they will be held responsible. A contract of this value—$800 million—must go through parliamentary approval. But to avoid this, they’ve set up a weak Ghanaian company as a front, claiming it’s an international deal. We are watching them closely, and if there is financial loss, those involved will be held accountable.”

Mahama’s remarks follow calls from the Minority in Parliament for the Ghana National Gas Company to submit the contract to Parliament for scrutiny.

John Jinapor, the Minority Spokesperson on Energy, alleged that there is pressure on the Chief Executive of Ghana Gas to sign the contract without proper parliamentary review. “The Minority has become aware of attempts by the Flagstaff House to compel the Chief Executive of Ghana Gas to sign a gas processing contract worth over $800 million,” Jinapor stated.

He added, “The initial tender was for a company called Phoenix. Strangely, that company has now transformed into an SPV to bypass parliamentary scrutiny.”

The Minority has insisted that the contract be reviewed by Parliament to ensure transparency and prevent financial loss to the state.

  • Collapsed banks can’t be reinstated, Mahama is joking – Assibey Yeboah

Collapsed banks can’t be reinstated, Mahama is joking – Assibey Yeboah

Former Chairman of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah, has dismissed former President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to revive collapsed banks as unrealistic and burdensome.

Mahama, the 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), recently reiterated his commitment to restoring the financial institutions that were shut down during the banking sector reforms.

According to him, this would help stabilize the financial sector and restore public confidence. Mahama also linked the revival of these banks to addressing Ghana’s rising unemployment rate and urged Ghanaians to support him in the 2024 elections to help rejuvenate the economy.

However, Dr. Assibey Yeboah criticized this promise as a “joke” during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Wednesday, September 25, questioning the feasibility of Mahama’s plan, given the issues that led to the financial sector clean-up.

According to Dr. Yeboah, the banking sector reforms were essential for stabilizing a system plagued by insolvency, mismanagement, and regulatory breaches. He argued that Mahama’s pledge was politically motivated, accusing the former president of attempting to undermine a necessary intervention that safeguarded depositors and restored confidence in the financial sector.

“That is a joke. How are they going to do it? Let’s assume, in the unlikely event, he wins the forthcoming election and is sworn in on January 7, what will happen? On January 8, will he call Unibank and tell them to come for their license? Where is the bank? The bank is gone. So, would they be holding the license and walking around?” Dr. Yeboah asked, emphasizing the impracticality of Mahama’s proposal.

Dr. Yeboah also pointed out that many of the closed banks were shut down due to severe regulatory violations, including capital inadequacies and fraudulent practices. Reinstating such institutions, he argued, would undermine the progress made in financial stability and set a dangerous precedent for the sector’s future management.

He further criticized Mahama’s leadership on financial matters during his presidency, stating that his administration failed to address the sector’s weaknesses, which ultimately led to the crisis that necessitated the reforms.

Dr. Assibey Yeboah insisted that Mahama’s promise was a populist move aimed at gaining votes rather than a practical solution. He urged Ghanaians to consider the long-term consequences of reversing the banking reforms, stressing that the clean-up was crucial for ensuring the financial sector’s future stability.

  • Grant them bail now! – Mahama kicks against draconian decision remand of anti-galamsey protesters

Grant them bail now! – Mahama kicks against draconian decision remand of anti-galamsey protesters

Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has described the decision to remand demonstrators from the Democracy Hub protest for two weeks as an abuse of their rights.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on September 26, 2024, Mahama criticized the authorities for what he called a “high-handed” judicial decision, stressing that it undermines the democratic rights of citizens to protest.

“We must balance our need to maintain law and order with protecting the rights and freedoms of our citizens. Remanding Democracy Hub demonstrators for 2 weeks is high-handed and an abuse of their rights. The youth of Ghana have a right to engage in manifestations to protect their future, especially in respect of key issues like the destruction of the environment through illegal mining,” Mahama stated.

He further called for the immediate review of the remand order, urging the authorities to act swiftly. “Draconian judicial decisions such as this won’t stop them from speaking out. The authorities must request the judge to review the remand decision and grant them bail immediately,” Mahama added.

The Democracy Hub protest, aimed at calling for an end to illegal mining activities (galamsey), concluded over the weekend. On Wednesday, eleven demonstrators appeared before the Accra Circuit Court, where they were remanded into police custody. They are expected to return for a hearing on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Each of the eleven pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a crime.

This development brings the total number of demonstrators currently remanded by the court to 50.

According to reports, the Lead Convenor of Democracy Hub, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, and fellow protestor Funny Otoo were absent from the court proceedings due to illness and were said to be receiving medical attention.

The remanded individuals face charges similar to those of the 39 protestors detained earlier, including unlawful assembly, conspiracy to commit a crime, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace, and assault on a public officer.

The legal proceedings are being spearheaded by the Office of the Attorney-General. Thirty of the demonstrators are expected to reappear in court on October 8, 2024, while the remaining nine will be arraigned on October 11, 2024. The police have indicated that more suspects are expected to face legal action in connection with the protest.

Mahama can never run away from ‘dumsor’ record – Assibey Yeboah

Former Chairman of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah, has criticized former President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of presiding over four years of debilitating power outages, commonly known as “dumsor,” during his tenure in office.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Wednesday, September 25, Dr. Yeboah asserted that Mahama cannot dissociate himself from the power crisis, which he believes had a devastating impact on the economy and the livelihoods of many Ghanaians.

Mahama has a record, and he cannot run away from his records. We have to remind the Ghanaian people that he presided over dumsor for four years,” Dr. Yeboah said.

According to Dr. Yeboah, the severe disruption of electricity supply during the dumsor period led to the collapse of numerous businesses, widespread job losses, and significant economic hardships. He noted that the crisis remains a key blemish on Mahama’s leadership record.

He further argued that Mahama’s credibility has been significantly tarnished due to his handling of the dumsor crisis, stating that it should be a critical issue for Ghanaians to consider in the upcoming 2024 elections.

“Under his administration, 32 take-or-pay power agreements were signed, and till today, the government is still grappling with their consequences,” Dr. Yeboah added.

Dr. Yeboah insisted that Mahama’s attempts to downplay the lingering effects of the crisis in recent political discussions cannot erase the clear records of how dumsor impacted the nation.

He urged Ghanaians to critically assess Mahama’s leadership and track record, particularly regarding power management, as they make their decision in the 2024 elections. Dr. Yeboah called on voters to focus on tangible results rather than political rhetoric when selecting their next leader.

Mahama pledges automatic recruitment of Ghanaian nurses

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to reinstate automatic recruitment for nursing trainees if he is elected into office.

Speaking to students at the Ntotronso Nursing and Midwifery College in the Ahafo Region, Mahama assured them of the NDC’s commitment to addressing their concerns, including reviewing the current nursing trainees’ allowance system.

“I know all the problems you have with your allowances and everything, and we are going to come and make things better for you. We are going to come and restore automatic posting so that when you come out of school, you can get a job as quickly as possible,” Mahama stated.

He also reiterated his promise to waive academic user fees for first-year university students, adding: “Your younger brothers and sisters who are going to come after you, when they come to the first year, they are not going to pay any school fees.”

In addition to addressing recruitment concerns, Mahama pledged to continue ongoing hospital construction projects to create employment opportunities for nursing graduates. He urged the students to support the NDC in the upcoming December 7 election.

“We are going to continue all the hospitals that are being built so that we can employ as many of you as possible. And so, as I have explained to your patron, I will create a proper programme and come and speak to you,” he explained.

Mahama concluded by encouraging the students to safeguard their voter ID cards and vote for change. “Make sure that you keep your voting cards well on 7th December, vote for a change and vote for the 24-hour economy.”

You can’t run over Mahama, he is a natural warrior – Bole MP

The Member of Parliament for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Alhaji Sulemana Yussif, has reminded Ghanaians that former President John Dramani Mahama is a descendant of warriors and will not tolerate being wronged.

He emphasized that while Mahama is known for his peaceful demeanour, he will not allow himself to be attacked or cheated without standing his ground.

Speaking to National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in Damongo after the “Enough Is Enough” demonstration on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Yussif drew parallels between Mahama and his grandfather, Ndewura Jakpa, a renowned warrior.

He noted that just as his grandfather defended his people only when provoked, Mahama would similarly defend his rights when necessary.

“Many are those who have said that John Mahama is a peaceful person, so they want to ride over him. But let it be known that John Mahama is a born and natural warrior; his great-grandfather was a warrior but a peaceful person,” Yussif said.

“He never attacked any community unless you invited him. John Mahama will not be violent and will not attack anybody, but if you dare invite John Mahama in this 2024 election, you will see that he is indeed a born warrior,” he added.

The “Enough Is Enough” demonstration, organized by the NDC, aimed to push for a forensic audit of the voter register ahead of the 2024 elections.

Following the protest, the party presented a petition to the Savannah Region office of the Electoral Commission, demanding action.

  • Presidency survery projects 2024 presidential elections to end in a run-off – Report

Presidency survery projects 2024 presidential elections to end in a run-off – Report

A recent survey reported by the Office of the President suggests that a run-off in the upcoming general presidential elections could be inevitable.

Per the survey, 49% of the respondents indicated that they are aligned with the NPP and NDC political parties. 87% of respondents indicated their decision to vote in the 2024 general elections.

“Bono (13.7%), Oti (12.1%) and Greater Accra (10.4%) are the regions with the highest number of voters still waiting to make a decision on whether to participate in the 2024 general elections,” the survey recorded. Also, 77% of these respondents indicated that they are dissatisfied with politicians, hence their wavering decision to vote this year.

Around 60% of voters indicated that their choices were based on party manifestos, with a specific focus on the policies that affect their lives. Meanwhile, scandals and poor decisions by government officials were highlighted as critical reasons that could hinder re-election chances for incumbents.

Information privy to The Independent Ghana indicates that the study sought the views of registered Ghanaian voters regarding the following themes: Voting history over the past two election cycles, attachment to political parties, readiness to vote in future elections, readiness to vote if elections were held today and which party to vote for, appeal/attractiveness of the two main presidential candidates, voter choice between the two main presidential candidates and visibility of the two presidential candidates in constituencies.

The study is said to have employed a multi-stage sampling technique covering all of Ghana’s 276 constituencies. Initially, five Electoral Areas (EA) were selected on the basis of probability sampling from each constituency. Thereafter, three polling stations were randomly selected from each EA. Seven respondents who are registered voters were selected for the interview in each of the selected polling stations. The respondents in each polling station were selected based on key demographic variables such as gender, age, and profession to ensure appropriate representation by all spheres of interest in the constituency.

The survey was led by the Director of Research at the Presidency and a former lecturer at the University of Ghana’s Political Science Department, Dr. Isaac Owusu, sources close to The Independent Ghana reveal.

    Run-off prediction

There have been several projections of a run-off in the next polls, and among those with such surmise is German Ambassador to Ghana, Daniel Krull.

In an interview with Accra-based JoyNews on Thursday, August 22, Ambassador Krull said he personally believes Ghana will “probably have a second round of elections.” This came as a surprise to him as Ghanaians do not seem to be preparing for such a scenario.

“I personally believe we will probably have a second round of elections which I’m surprised Ghanaians are not preparing for. I think there are good arguments to expect that there might be a second round,” Krull stated.

    The third force

With the approach of the 2024 general elections, calls for a robust third force to challenge the dominance of the NPP and NDC have grown louder.

A growing number of Ghanaians are increasingly disillusioned with the repetitive cycle of governance by these two parties, attributing their dissatisfaction to underwhelming economic progress, unfulfilled promises, rampant corruption, and the persistent mismanagement of state resources.

Some Ghanaians believe that former Trade Minister and leader of the Movement for Change, John Alan Kyerematen, and Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, leader of The New Force, who have filed their nomination forms to run as independent candidates could represent the third force that the country has been searching for.

There will be a run-off if no candidate secures over 50% plus 1 of the total votes cast in the first round of the 2024 presidential election.

Video: Mahama condemns chiefs, pastors, imams, others for supporting NPP

Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has publicly condemned Ghanaian chiefs, pastors, imams, traditional leaders, and various civil society groups for endorsing the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a video posted on social media, the former President criticized these leaders during a campaign stop at Alogblogshie Anglican Church in Accra. Mahama expressed his belief that instead of praising Bawumia, these leaders should have criticized him for what Mahama describes as the NPP’s poor governance.

“Pastors, imams, chiefs, and civil society organizations exist in this nation, and they support the NPP rather than criticizing it. It seems as though we are the evil guys when NDC says something. Instead, they should band together with us to inform the government that it’s time for you to leave because of your immorality toward Ghanaians. However, you’ll see Chiefs praising NPP for their excellent work.

“Pastors are seen praying for Bawumia in the churches, saying things like, ‘We bless you and may God give you victory,’ and ‘the government has done a good job.’ He approaches the traditionalists, and they ask their ancestors to lead him (Bawumia) and pour wine into their shrines,” the former President said.
