Man Utd doesn’t have a structure now, they need a complete change – CR 7

Al-Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a message to the management of his former club, Manchester Utd’s management, to effect a thorough structural change following their dip in form in recent years.

Under Erik ten Hag, the team ended the 2023 season in eighth place on the Premier League table, missing out on all European competitions after failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. They missed out again the following year under RĂşben Amorim, finishing 15th on the table.

Their position sparked concerns among fans and pundits of a possible relegation.

Reacting to the ‘bad state’ of Man Utd, but for the brief resurgence in their last three matches, Ronaldo has suggested a complete change, particularly in the club structure, as soon as possible before they get worse, lauding the club as “one of the most important clubs of the century”.

He said, “So, Manchester United right now, they don’t have a structure. I hope that changes in the future the present future, because the potential of the club is amazing” while comparing the club’s status and form during the stint of “Nicky, Garys, Roy Keanes, Beckhams”.

For a club like Man Utd, that were a champion a few years ago, their current state breaks his heart, Ronaldo continued.

“For me, it’s… I’m sad because of the club, one of the most important clubs in the world, and a club that I still have in my heart because of obvious reasons. You have to follow with intelligent people, smart people, to create a base for the future, as Manchester United did so many years ago. Nicky, Gary, Roy Keane, Beckhams, they became big players, but they had youth.

“So, Manchester United right now doesn’t have a structure. I hope that changes in the future, the present future, because the potential of the club is amazing”, he added.

Cristiano continued that the club’s current form is not entirely the coach’s fault, highlighting the need for a general structural change, as Amorim would not be able to do miracles at United as some expect him to.

He said the Man Utd he knows is currently not on a good path, and that saddens him.

“Miracles? Miracles are impossible. We say in Portugal, miracles are only in FĂĄtima. For me, I’m sad because of the club, one of the most important clubs in the world and a club that I still have in my heart because of obvious reasons.

He continued, “We all have to be honest and look at ourselves and say, Listen, they are not on a good path. So they need to change”.

The club is currently like this because some of the Man Utd players have not improved in their mindset, some of the players, in Ronaldo’s opinion, are yet to see the value and worth of the club, though he applauded some good players in the team.

Ronaldo’s last interview with Piers Morgan followed a massive fall out with Man Ut, three years ago.

The interview was widely reported as an explosive one. Aired in two parts on November 16 and 17. During the interview, he slammed the coach at the time, Ten Hag. He noted he doesn’t respect him because the coach doesn’t respect him, too, adding that, following Sir Fergusson’s departure, everything at Man Utd had come to a standstill. He also

“I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me.” Ronaldo accused Ten Hag of trying to force him out and criticised how he was treated, especially after refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham. “Nothing has changed since Sir Alex left. The pool, the jacuzzi, even the gym… they stopped in time.”

Speaking on the club’s younger teammates attitude, Ronaldo lamented that,

“They don’t listen. They don’t care. They have everything too easy,” expressing his disappointment in some players and other members of the club, including the coach, who wanted to see him exit the club.

“Yes, not only the coach but two or three guys around the club. I felt betrayed,” he added.

About five days after the interview aired, Man Utd terminated the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s contract by mutual consent in November 2022.

After leaving Manchester United in November 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr, a Saudi Arabian club, in December 2022. He signed a contract reportedly worth over $200 million per year, including commercial agreements, making it one of the most lucrative deals in football history.

His contract with Al-Nassr added greatly to his already solid financials. According to Forbes’ ranking released in May 2025, CR7 emerged as the highest-paid athlete for the third consecutive year.

According to the ranking, NBA star Stephen Curry has taken Lionel Messi’s position as the second-highest paid, falling four places behind his rival.

Curry, the Golden State Warriors guard who became the first NBA player to reach 4,000 career three-pointers in March, recorded $156 million (approximately ÂŁ117 million) in income.

Forbes says Ronaldo has been on the list five times in his career and has since increased his estimated total earnings by $15 million, reaching $275 million (about ÂŁ206 million).Cristiano Ronaldo’s earnings have increased following his juicy contract with Al-Nassr and partnerships with Nike, Binance, and Clear, as well as his brand and huge social media following.

The only sportsman that has surpassed the Al-Nassr star is former world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather, who earned $300 million in 2015 (then ÂŁ194 million) and $275 million in 2018 (then ÂŁ205 million).

Tyson Fury moved to third place on Forbes’ highest-paid athletes list, replacing Dak Prescott, the American football quarterback. Prescott, who was previously ranked third, has now dropped to fourth place, earning $137 million in 2025.

Fury was the beneficiary of a Netflix reality television show and a partnership with Maltese tourism.

That is a lazy criticism – Van Dijk reacts to Rooney’s lack of leadership comments

On October 27, Man Utd’s all-time leading goal scorer, Wayne Rooney, blamed Liverpool’s four-game Premier League losing streak on a lack of leadership.

He mentioned Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and Egyptian prodigy Mohammed Salah that the duo have signed a contract extension with the club, but their posture this season does not reflect that of good leadership, one that is in charge, citing that as one of the reasons behind the team’s struggles.

“This is a time when the manager and the leaders in the team need to figure it out very quickly. Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah they’ve signed new deals, but I don’t think they’ve really led that team this season. I think body language tells you a lot, and I think we’re seeing slightly different body language from the two of them. They are the top two players in that team, and if their body language is not right, that affects everyone else,” he said.

In reaction to this, Virgil van Dijk has shot down the legend’s claims, flawing them as lazy criticism.

According to him, a team’s form is not entirely the responsibility of a few players but that of every member of the team citing the silence of the former Man Utd legend when the club was their best last season where they won the Premier League title last season. He said the remarks didn’t hurt him.

He said, “I didn’t hear him last year,” Van Dijk told reporters, after Liverpool arrested their slide with a win against Aston Villa on Saturday. It doesn’t hurt me. Just to come back to this particular player, obviously a legend, a big player of the game who inspired so many, I can say only positive things, but I feel that comment is just, I would say it’s a bit of a lazy criticism. It’s easy to blame the other players, but he knows we do it together, trying to help each of us to try to get out of this. Last year, when things went well, you didn’t hear that at all”.

On his part, Rooney’s remarks are an opinion, and as a pundit, he is entitled to his opinion and which is to say, he is doing his job.

“It is what it is.[Pundits] have to do that job. He has an opinion, and we have to deal with it. There’s no hard feelings. I don’t take it personally,” he continued.

Liverpool is third in the Premier League and seven points behind leaders Arsenal heading into two crucial games this week.

Slot’s side hosted Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday before they visited Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

“I’ve heard the reports as well about [Slot] being under pressure, but I don’t think we play at a club that makes rash decisions,” added Van Dijk.We all felt that we could work our way out of this. It’s not a guarantee, but we can do it together. As long as we believe, stay humble and keep working, we can do it, and we all have that feeling.”

Another thing Rooney said was that the team is clearly having a hard time overcoming their struggles, as they never anticipated such results, which have now placed them seventh in the Premier League table. He has called on the leadership of Liverpool to treat the team’s current form with urgency.

The Reds have lost four consecutive Premier League matches and are now seven points behind leaders Arsenal.

“No one has seen this coming; it’s hit them quick, it’s hit them hard, and I think they’re struggling to find a way out of it,” he added.

“I might be wrong on this, but if I were a Liverpool fan or the manager, that would be a big concern for me.”

Meanwhile, Rooney has been quite vocal about Man Utd’s form. Man Utd have had a disappointing run since Amorim’s takeover from Eric ten Hag.

According to Rooney, he sees faith in Ruben Amorim to turn things around at Manchester United and believes the soul has gone from his former club.

“I just don’t know what’s going on. I have tried my hand at management, and it didn’t work out too well, so I get it. Ruben Amorim is my age, he’s still a young manager, and I’m sure he’s got a massive future, but what’s going on at Man Utd, this is not Man Utd. I honestly hope he can turn it around, and he does. But… after everything I’ve seen, honestly, I’ve got no faith in it,” he said on his BBC podcast.

However, Man Utd has won its last three matches. After their second win in a row, speaking during his post-match press conference, Amorim stated that,

“It’s everything combined for the fans if you ask them on two wins in a row after so many years, it is really important for me that it is back-to-back; it doesn’t matter about the opponent, it is just the feeling of winning.”

But he said his focus was to achieve a three-in-a-row win as Man Utd gear up for their Premier League Matchweek 9 match with Brighton on Saturday, 25 October at Old Trafford, 17:30 BST (16:30 UTC).

“The important thing is to think three in a row and that’s the focus”, Amorim said to the BBC after the game.”

Before this back-to-back win, Head coach Amorim had taken just 34 points from his 33 Premier League games in charge. But his record as of October 20 put him just a point above his previous.

Man Utd lost for the fourth game in a row in all competitions, but for Amorim, bagging two EPL wins in a row was an important mark chalked in his first full season at the club.

However, it appears Amorim’s tactics, which came under heavy criticism, are producing the results he anticipated they would.

Rooney’s former club are also enjoying a resurgence, with a 4-2 win over Brighton making it three on the trot and lifting them to sixth place, level on points with Manchester City and one clear of Liverpool.

Part of that success has been down to the form of forward Bryan Mbeumo, who has scored three of his five goals in the last two games.

Rooney admitted he was not convinced when United brought him to the club in the summer for ÂŁ65m from Brentford, but said the 26-year-old Cameroon international is now living up to expectations.

“His energy, his work-rate, his desire, is what you need to be a United player. I did say that I was a little bit unsure, but I think what he’s shown is he belongs there,” added Rooney.

“He’s been consistent with his performances, I think that’s the main thing. If you’re consistently getting into the right positions and getting chances, you will score 20 goals a season.”

Racism: Rashford abuser to face €4k fine – Spanish authorities recommend

Racism in football has evolved, while authorities make efforts to completely nip it in the bud, some fans refuse to budge.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, who is currently on a season-long loan at Barcelona, was racially abused by a fan in the stands on September 25 during the Catalan giants’ 3-1 win over Real Oviedo. TV microphones picked that up, and later it was circulated on social media.

In reaction to this, Spanish authorities have recommended a €4,000 ($4,625) fine for the fan who abused the 27-year-old forward.

“La Liga detected the images on social media and filed a complaint with the National Police,” the statement said.

“Subsequently, analysis of footage from the stadium’s Organisational Control Unit (UCO) cameras allowed for the identification of the alleged perpetrator. The processing of this proposal will be contingent upon the final decisions made in the criminal proceedings.”

The authorities are yet to confirm when a final decision will be taken. This is not the first time Rashford has been subjected to racial abuse. His being a target on several occasions at both the club level and national level has made him an ardent advocate.

Rashford has repeatedly spoken out about racist messages and threats he’s received on platforms like Twitter and Instagram. He’s called for stronger action from tech companies to curb hate speech. Rashford has worked with campaigns like Kick It Out and has urged authorities to hold perpetrators accountable.

In 2021, a man was jailed in England for racially abusing Rashford on social media after the striker had missed a penalty in England’s Euro 2020 final shoot-out defeat.

Rashford is among the many players, including Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr, and Ghana international Antoine Semenyo. Quite recently, the UK banned a man who was arrested at Anfield on Friday, August 15, for racially abusing Ghanaian international forward, Antoine Semenyo.

During the first half of the Premier League opener, Semenyo was preparing to take a throw-in when a 47-year-old man passed some offensive comment at him. According to reports, Semenyo asked that the man repeat what he said, he did and even threw a gum at him.

He immediately reported it to referee Anthony Taylor, who paused the match in the 28th minute.

Subsequently, he was seen out of the stadium by the police and held in custody for a racially aggravated public order offence, according to the Merseyside Police on Monday.

He has, however, been granted bail on the following conditions that, not attend any regulated football match in the UK and prohibited from going within one mile of any designated football stadium

A police investigation into the incident is ongoing.

In reaction to this, Gianni Infantino, in an official statement issued on Sunday, August 17, explained that the sport has zero tolerance for discrimination and any other abuse in any form, eulogising Antoine’s resilience and stunning display in the game despite the potential emotional distress.

“It is absolutely unacceptable to see the racist abuse aimed at AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, which led to a stoppage of their Premier League match against Liverpool FC at Anfield last night.Football has no place for racism or any form of discrimination – Antoine’s courage and performance on the pitch, despite such adversity, is a powerful example of strength and dignity for players worldwide”, parts of the statement read.

Meanwhile, in May last year, FIFA announced that it had put forward a five-pillar plan aimed at addressing racist abuse in football.

The global governing body stated that it had engaged in an extensive consultation process with current and former players who are committed to instigating change.

One of the plan’s key suggestions involves implementing a standard crossed-hands gesture for players to signal racist incidents during matches.

The first pillar of the proposal intends to make racism a specific offence which is included in all member associations’ disciplinary codes and has its own “specific and severe sanctions, including match forfeits”.

Fifa said it will “pause, suspend and abandon games in cases of racism”.

The crossed-hands gesture will be used by referees to signal an in-game procedure in which matches are paused twice and warnings are given, with the game to then be abandoned in the event of further racism.

In pillar three – ‘criminal charges’ – Fifa called for racism to be recognised as a criminal offence in every country, and said it would push for severe sanctions in the countries where it is already an offence.

Fifa also said it would promote education initiatives with schools and governments to “provide a future free of racism”, while an anti-racism panel made up of former players will be set up to review the progress of the proposal.

Earlier that year, Brazil and Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr said he felt “less and less” like playing football because he had suffered repeated racist abuse.

In 2023, a FIFA report found almost 20,000 abusive social media posts were aimed at players, coaches and officials during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

And in 2021, England manager Gareth Southgate called the racist abuse aimed at Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka after the Euro 2020 final “unforgivable”.

Rooney blames Liverpool’s current form on ‘poor leadership’ by Salah,Virgil

Winners of last year’s Premier League title have had an inconsistent form this season, having lost five out of nine games.

In their last match against Brentford, they suffered a 2-3 loss, prompting a reaction from former Man Utd forward and the club’s all-time leading goal scorer, Rooney.

Speaking in the latest episode of The Wayne Rooney Show, the five-time Premier League winner said the body language of captain Virgil van Dijk and talismanic forward Mohamed Salah during Liverpool’s troubled spell was a “big concern”.

He believes that the duo have signed a contract extension with the club, but their posture this season does not reflect that of good leadership, one that is in charge, citing that as one of the reasons behind the team’s struggles.

“This is a time when the manager and the leaders in the team need to figure it out very quickly. On September 14, Man Utd suffered an embarrassing defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The Reds lost against their rivals in a 0-3 derby with a brace from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

Speaking in a post-match conference, Amorim addressed some mistakes made by his side, highlighting the confused state of the players at times. According to him, some goals could have been avoided, but he admits he made poor decisions during the game.

On his tactical philosophy, which has come under massive attack, particularly after the derby defeat against City, he reiterated that he will not change it. Some critics have slammed him for his 3-4-3 setup, which appears to be affecting players like Bruno Fernandes or Benjamin Šešk, given United’s current position on the league table.

“It’s not a record that you should have at Manchester United… But I’m not going to change. When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man.”

Ruben Amorim says Man Utd’s two consecutive wins “really important for him”

Manchester United have recorded two consecutive winning streaks for the first time since head coach RĂşben Amorim took charge in November last year.

The Reds appointed Amorim in November 2024, but nearly ten months into his tenure, the club has yet to see a significant turnaround in fortunes. The team continued to struggle despite high fan expectations following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag in October 2024 for a poor run of results.

However, his 2-1 win against Chelsea on Sunday, 12 October at Old Trafford, and 2-1 triumph in a clash with Liverpool on Sunday, 19 October after goals by Benjamin Sesko (23’) and Bruno Fernandes (penalty, 78’), prompted his expression of excitement.

Speaking during his post-match press conference, Amorim stated that,

“It’s everything combined for the fans if you ask them on two wins in a row after so many years, it is really important for me that it is back-to-back, it doesn’t matter about the opponent, it is just the feeling of winning.”

But Amorim said his focus is to achieve a three-in-a-row win as Man Utd gear up for their Premier League Matchweek 9 match with Brighton on Saturday, 25 October at Old Trafford, 17:30 BST (16:30 UTC).

Amorim said, “The important thing is to think three in a row and that’s the focus” Amorim said to the BBC after the game.”

One of the club legends that have been quite vocal about the team’s performances is Wayne Rooney. He expressed his frustration about the club’s current state, highlighting that his faith in Amorim’s leadership is dead now.

Wayne Rooney made these comments on a BBC podcast, which was aired on September 29, following Manchester United’s 1-3 loss to Brentford on September 27.

He fumed over players’ dead desire to fight and win, adding that he goes to games expecting the team to lose and feels some players do not deserve to represent the club.

“I don’t recognise the whole football club. I don’t see players fighting, I don’t see character, I don’t see desire to win. I go to a game watching… expecting the team to lose or maybe pick up a point. The soul has gone from the club. It needs a new engine, a new lease of life. It needs something to kickstart that football club. What is going on? This is not all on the manager, by the way. Players, they’re not deserving to wear that shirt, and it hurts.”

However, following Utd recent wins, he has publicly praised the team’s performances, especially highlighting Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire after their back-to-back wins over Chelsea and Liverpool.

scepticalHe admitted he was “skeptical” about Mbeumo’s £65 million move from Brentford but now says the forward has “proved him wrong.”

“I had my doubts at first, but he’s proved me completely wrong. He’s already United’s best player this season.”

Currently, pundits and fans are beginning to question whether Amorim’s tactics, which have subjected him to heavy criticism, particularly from legends like Rooney.

“It’s not a record that you should have at Manchester United… But I’m not going to change. When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man.”

But Rooney had a different opinion. He mentioned that fans were so disappointed that they began to leave the stadium with chants of Amorim’s name. There are no signs of recovery for the once celebrated and results-oriented Man Utd that had its name on the lips of fans all the time.

“I think if the manager is honest with himself, it has got worse. I want to be as supportive and positive as I can be of the manager and the players. But it is very difficult to sit here and say we are seeing progression, and at least we’re seeing things that will get results in the near future.

“I think after the last year when Ten Hag got sacked and Ruben came in, we’re hearing how they’re going to play and it is going to change,” said Rooney, who scored 253 goals for United between 2004 and 2017.

“We’re seeing none of that, and it is very difficult. There was an image towards the end of the game where I saw the Manchester United fans leaving. You could hear the fans singing Amorim’s name, but I think that is so powerful that the United fans were leaving the game. You know the game is over, and I think they were very disappointed in what they were seeing. It is hard to see how it continues”, he questioned.

Kudus has been a breath of fresh air – Wayne Rooney praises Ghana international for stunning start at Spurs

Ghana international Mohammed Kudus has become “a breath of fresh air” for former Man Utd forward and the club’s all-time leading goal scorer.

This comes after Kudus played a crucial role in Spurs’ win against Leeds United in their game at Elland Road on Saturday, October 4.

Just twenty-three minutes into the game, Kudus passed the ball to Mathys Tel, whose deflected shot gave Spurs the lead.

Leeds equalised Spurs’ lead in the 34th minute through Noah Okafor. However, after twenty-three (23) minutes, Kudus notched a goal in the 57th minute with a superb finish from the edge of the box, restoring his team’s lead.

This has earned him some praise from Rooney, who lauded him for his form since joining Spurs on July 10 in a ÂŁ55 million transfer from West Ham United.

Rooney, speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, lauded Kudus’s all-round contribution.

“I think he’s been a breath of fresh air. When you look at the stats from today’s game against Leeds, he’s first in every category: duels won, successful dribbles, shots, touches in the opposition box, and sprints. He’s had a real impact for Tottenham this season,” the England legend said.

In a breakdown of his performance statistics since joining Tottenham, Rooney explained that “he’s got four assists, which is joint-highest in the Premier League right now, and by far the most successful dribbles. All that was missing was the goal, and I think that strike today will push him to the next level,” he added.

Kudus will now turn his attention to international duty, as he joins the Ghana national team ahead of their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against the Central African Republic and Comoros later this month.

Rooney praising Kudus for being “a breath of fresh air” comes on the sidelines of his recent frustration with his former club, Man Utd, for their devastating performance in recent times highlighting that his faith in Amorim’s leadership is dead now.

Wayne Rooney made these comments on a BBC podcast, which was aired on September 29, following Manchester United’s 3-1 loss to Brentford on September 27.

Man Utd appointed Ruben Amorim in November, and for about ten months now, the Reds haven’t seen any significant revival in their fortunes. The team keep regressing when fans anticipated a turnaround after the dismissal of Erik ten Hag in October 2024 for his poor run. Head coach Amorim has taken just 34 points from his 33 Premier League games in charge.

Despite the ongoing poor form, which includes last month’s Carabao Cup exit at League Two Grimsby, Amorim reportedly retains the backing of United’s board.

United endured their worst Premier League campaign last season, finishing 15th, their lowest position since they were relegated from the old First Division in 1974.

With passion, he spoke about how the culture of the club has died, citing how people on the sidelines are quitting and others being laid off; everything shows this is not the Man Utd he knows. Expressing fears about the potential of it affecting his two children, who are currently enrolled in the club’s academy.

“The culture of that football club has gone,” added the former England captain. I see it daily, I see staff losing jobs, people walking out of jobs. I’ve got two kids [in the academy] at that football club, and I really hope this doesn’t affect what they’re doing -what I’m seeing at that football club is not Manchester United

United, who sit 14th in the table, return to action on Saturday at home to Sunderland before travelling to leaders Liverpool after the October international break.

Rooney has been quite vocal about his former club’s status recently. Manchester United suffered an embarrassing defeat to Manchester City yesterday, Sunday, 14 September at the Etihad Stadium. The Reds lost against their rivals in a 0-3 derby with a brace from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

mentioned that fans were so disappointed that they began to leave the stadium with chants of Amorim’s name. There are no signs of recovery for the once celebrated and results-oriented Man Utd that had its name on the lips of fans all the time.

“I think if the manager is honest with himself, it has got worse. I want to be as supportive and positive as I can be with the manager and the players.

He went on to question, “What are the patterns? What are we seeing that might improve the team moving forward?”

United finished 15th in the league last term with 42 points, their lowest position since 1989–90. They earned their fewest points in a top-flight season since they were last relegated in 1973–74.Since Amorim’s arrival, they have spent about £250m on new signings, while shipping out most of their so-called ‘bomb squad’.

This has allowed the 40-year-old coach to revamp his side into a 3-4-3 system that he has vowed not to deviate from after enjoying success with Sporting.

Antony admits off-field issues had huge impact on his form at Man Utd

Brazil-born forward and former Man Utd winger, Antony Matheus dos Santos, has addressed concerns about his slump in form at a point during his stint at Old Trafford.

Signed from AFC Ajax in August 2022 for a reported fee of £85 million (approximately €100 million or $100 million at the time), including add-ons, Antony had struggled for form, scoring only 12 goals in 95 appearances for United.

Addressing the possible factors that may have affected his stint at Old Trafford, during an engagement with ESPN Brasil, Antony admitted that his “off-field matters” had a huge impact on his form. He lauded his performances, highlighted his abilities, and expressed confidence in his skills, while appreciating his time at Manchester United as a stage for self-discovery.

“I think off-field matters affected me a lot in my performance. I know my potential, I know my qualities, I didn’t play in a World Cup for nothing, I didn’t return to the national team for nothing. I also take responsibility for it not working out, for not performing as I wanted. But I always try to see the bright side of things. Going through this entire process, this time at United, was necessary to see myself.”

He also opened up about the challenges he faced during his final days at Old Trafford. The Brazilian revealed that, before his loan move to Real Betis in January, he often felt disrespected, with some people being rude toward him. According to him, it reached a point where people would walk past without even greeting him.

Antony detailed that, “Look, I’m not the kind of guy who gets involved in controversies, who names people, in fact, I won’t mention anyone’s name here. But I think there was a bit of a lack of respect there, even a bit of rudeness too, with no one giving you a good morning, a good afternoon”.

He continued that “Not even that. But, anyway, that’s in the past; I won’t give much importance to these things. Now I’m here, at Betis, I’m living here, that’s the most important thing for me.”

Antony’s dip in form affected his play time under their new coach, Ruben Amori. He was reportedly excluded from Ruben Amorim’s squad, making him an automatic member of a group dubbed the “bomb squad” alongside Jadon Sancho and Rasmus Højlund.

In between returning to United and re-joining Betis, Antony was reportedly forced to train away from teammates by Ruben Amorim and was not included in the squad for the club’s preseason tour.

In light of this, he expressed his desire to move. Multiple outlets, including SPORTbible and Relevo, reported that Manchester United had reached a verbal agreement with Real Betis for Antony to join on loan until the end of the season.

The deal, which was initially structured without a buy option, eventually turned into a permanent move after the Brazil international joined Betis on loan last season before completing a €22 million ($25.6m) permanent move in the summer. Antony snubbed multiple offers from other clubs, including Saudi and Brazilian sides, as he held out for a permanent move to Real Betis.

Antony’s admitting that his off-field lifestyle largely impacted his form comes a few days after former Man City Jack Grealish admitted to the same.

Initially listed as a starter in Pep’s squad, particularly in key matches, Grealish began losing his spot.

Leading to his starting in just seven matches out of 38 Premier League matches in the 2024/25 season, with two youngsters, Jeremy Doku and Phil Foden, taking his spot with more energy and finishing.

Pep, during a media conference, addressed concerns raised about Grealish’s limited time, and he said,

“You have to fight with Savinho—the impact he has had this season is amazing. Jeremy Doku is incredible, a top player as well. Phil Foden can play on the left as well; that’s the point. It’s never against a player from my point of view. It’s OK, accept the challenge, prove you are the best.”

    He also added:

“I want much more… This is the level I would like to see from Jack. But it has not been like that”.While he never publicly addressed Jack’s dip in form to his off-field lifestyle, it is reported that Guardiola warned Grealish privately about his off-field activities, suggesting they could affect his form and future at the club, which subsequently did.

In an interview with SkySports, Tim Sherwood, the British player, admitted that his off-field activities were part of the decline in performance, but stressed that it was not entirely the case.

Living a more balanced life could have produced a different story, he said, but his timing was not always the best. And his off-field lifestyle, partying, and trips are to enjoy life to the fullest.

“People go, ‘he likes to go out, he likes to party,’ and I do. I want to be able to live my life and enjoy myself, but obviously, there’s a time and a place to do that. Sometimes, I’ll be honest with you, I probably haven’t picked the right times. At City, I didn’t help myself at times, I’ll openly say that, but then I don’t think it was all down to that, ” Grealish said.

However, his main reason for leaving Etihad was that he wanted to feel loved again. He felt disconnected while at Man City, which in turn affected his effectiveness, as he is at his best when he feels loved.

“I’m at my best when I feel loved. You know, I’m quite vulnerable off the pitch, and I wanted to go somewhere to just feel the love again and just wake up with a smile on my face and want to play again,” he added.

While at Man City, some pundits blame his slump in form on Pep, for trying to mould Grealish into a possession-heavy, disciplined winger, which clashed with his natural free-flowing style. Analysts noted he became a “shadow of his best self” as he was asked to prioritise ball retention over flair.

However, under the leadership of Moyes, Everton’s coach, Jack says the tactical freedom he’s found has reignited his spark.

“I don’t mean this in an arrogant way, but I do like it when managers say, ‘you’re the footballer, go and do what you want to do.’

“Obviously, you have your jobs. You have your roles to do without the ball and set pieces, but he says to me, ‘when you get the ball, just go and do what you want to do.’”

Onana joins ‘the Vaseline keepers’ as he applies it before a match

Andre Onana is among several goalkeepers spotted applying Vaseline-like substances to their gloves before kick-off—but what’s the reason behind this curious habit?

The 29-year-old Manchester United shot-stopper came under scrutiny on Thursday night after a shaky showing in their 2-2 draw against Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.

Onana was blamed for two costly mistakes, including one in the final moments of stoppage time.

His errors denied United a crucial away win and left the tie finely balanced.

Lyon took the lead in the 25th minute through Thiago Almada. However, United responded just before the break with Leny Yoro scoring his first goal for the club.

In the closing stages, Joshua Zirkzee put United ahead 2-1, but Onana spilled a shot straight to Rayan Cherki, who capitalised to equalise. The second leg will now be decided at Old Trafford.

Andre Onana is not the only goalkeeper who applies substances like Vaseline to his gloves. This technique is used by several top goalkeepers to enhance grip, especially in wet conditions:

Manuel Neuer: The Bayern Munich legend was seen applying Vaseline to his gloves before a Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim in January 20232.

Jordan Pickford: England’s first-choice goalkeeper has been spotted using Vaseline during training sessions2.

Joe Hart: Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart used Vaseline on his gloves during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil3.

Ben Foster: He learned the trick from Joe Hart and has mentioned its effectiveness.

This practice is particularly popular during rainy matches, as it helps goalkeepers maintain better control of the ball.

Pep slams Man Utd fans for ‘lack of class’ chants toward Foden

Pep Guardiola has criticized a group of Manchester United fans for showing a “lack of class” after they directed offensive chants at Manchester City’s Phil Foden during Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

Foden, 24, who had a quiet performance, was substituted by City manager Guardiola in the second half. The England midfielder, who grew up supporting City in Stockport, was one of just two local players in the match, alongside City’s Nico O’Reilly.

Despite his local connection, Foden endured derogatory chants from the United fans, to which he responded by giving them a thumbs-up. Guardiola expressed disappointment, suggesting that the behavior of these fans reflected troubling trends in today’s society.

“Lack of class,” Guardiola said when asked about the chants aimed at Foden. “But it’s not United, it’s the people, you know?

“We are so exposed in the screen in world football — managers, owners, and football players especially. Honestly, I don’t understand the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil. It’s a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed.”

Manchester City’s draw in the game means they remain in fifth place in the Premier League, holding onto the final Champions League spot, just one point ahead of Aston Villa. Villa will visit the Etihad on April 22.

Newcastle, currently in seventh place, are only two points behind City, having played two fewer games. If they win their upcoming match against struggling Leicester City, they could move ahead of City into the fifth spot.

Despite the pressure of potentially missing out on the Champions League, Guardiola stated that he is not worried about the team’s chances of qualifying.

“Nothing,” Guardiola said when asked his thoughts about finishing in the top five. “All that is important is our next game, against Crystal Palace.

“We will prepare for the upcoming games. There are a few things I’m happy with what I saw, but now we need to achieve the target of qualifying for Champions League, then next season is next season.”

  • Eriksen set to depart Manchester United at the end of season

Christian Eriksen is preparing to leave Manchester United at the end of the season and does not expect to join another club in the Premier League.

The 33-year-old Danish midfielder signed with United on a free transfer in July 2022, following a brief stint at Brentford. This move came after he made a remarkable return to football, having suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020.

Since joining United, Eriksen has played 66 Premier League games, but his role has been significantly reduced this season, with only 16 league appearances.

With his contract set to expire in the summer, Eriksen has confirmed that there have been no talks about an extension.

“I haven’t heard anything from the club, and therefore I assume that the collaboration will stop – that’s how I interpret it,” said the Dane.

“I am prepared to find something new. I am fine with that. Where it will be, I haven’t decided yet.”

Eriksen began his football career at Ajax before spending seven years at Tottenham Hotspur.

Before he signed with Manchester United, Spurs had shown interest in re-signing him. He also had a spell at Inter Milan before making his move to Old Trafford.

“The intention is not to stay in England,” added Eriksen.

“I am not going to the USA – we are not going that far. We would like to stay in Europe, but it is too early to go home to Denmark.

“I feel like I have some good years abroad left.”

  • Man Utd plans to construct a ÂŁ2bn stadium with a 100,000-seat capacity

Man Utd plans to construct a ÂŁ2bn stadium with a 100,000-seat capacity

Manchester United have revealed plans to build the largest football stadium in the UK—an impressive new 100,000-seater venue costing £2 billion. The new stadium will be located near Old Trafford.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe expressed his ambition to create the “world’s greatest football stadium,” with hopes that construction will be completed within five years.

After carefully considering whether to renovate Old Trafford or construct a new facility, the club decided on an entirely new stadium.

Old Trafford has been United’s home since 1910, but the club believes the new project will offer a modern and world-class experience.

The design, led by architects Foster and Partners, will include a unique umbrella-style roof and a massive public plaza, said to be twice the size of Trafalgar Square.

The stadium will also feature three towering masts, known as “the trident,” which will stand 200 meters tall and be visible from 25 miles away.

Despite these ambitious plans, Manchester United, which currently has ÂŁ1 billion in debt, has not yet revealed how it will fund the project.

The new stadium will be part of a major redevelopment of the Old Trafford area, expected to be the biggest in the UK since the Stratford regeneration for the 2012 London Olympics. Chancellor Rachel Reeves has already pledged government support for the project.

Manchester United says the development could create 92,000 jobs, include the construction of 17,000 new homes, and attract an extra 1.8 million visitors each year. They also estimate that the project will contribute ÂŁ7.3 billion annually to the UK economy.

“Today marks the start of an incredibly exciting journey to the delivery of what will be the world’s greatest stadium,” said Ratcliffe.

“Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for the past 115 years but it has fallen behind the arenas in world sport.

“I think we may well finish up with the most iconic football stadium in the world.”

Man Utd’s Ratcliffe says some players aren’t good, others overpaid

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has admitted that some players at the club are “not good enough” while others are “overpaid.”

In an interview with BBC Sport, the billionaire specifically mentioned midfielder Casemiro, striker Rasmus Hojlund, goalkeeper Andre Onana, and wingers Antony and Jadon Sancho—who is currently on loan—as players his regime had “inherited.”

Ratcliffe, a lifelong Manchester United fan, is the chairman of petrochemicals giant Ineos, which has a strong presence in sports investment. In 2023, he acquired a 28.94% stake in the club for ÂŁ1.3 billion, a deal that also gave Ineos control over football operations.

Addressing United’s struggles—currently sitting 14th in the Premier League—Ratcliffe reiterated his commitment to securing silverware by 2028.

Speaking a day after fans protested against the club’s ownership, he also highlighted its financial difficulties, revealing that, without intervention, Manchester United was on track to run out of money by the end of the year. He acknowledged that some of the necessary financial decisions would be “unpopular.”

    Ratcliffe also spoke about:

Marcus Rashford’s departure from the club on loan to Aston Villa
How backing then sacking ex-manager Erik ten Hag – and hiring sporting director Dan Ashworth, who left after five months – were “errors”
How he believes the club had “come off the rails”

Man Utd’s Garnacho under fire after seemingly ignoring young Man Utd supporter’s autograph plea

Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho was caught in an awkward viral moment when he appeared to ignore a young fan seeking an autograph while sitting in his Range Rover.

After United’s FA Cup loss to Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday, a supporter approached Garnacho, who was seen scrolling on his phone in the driver’s seat of his £120,000 Range Rover.

However, he drove off without acknowledging the fan, according to The Daily Mail.

Garnacho has been a divisive figure among United fans during the club’s disappointing 2024-25 season. Despite this, he has contributed seven goals and six assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.

In January, he was linked with potential moves to Napoli and Chelsea, and reports suggest United may consider offers for him again this summer.

The Argentine forward has had tense moments with fans before. In November, he refused to celebrate his goal against Leicester at Old Trafford after being taunted by a supporter ahead of a game against PAOK days earlier.

The fan said to Garnacho, “Pass better today, score a goal and work on your touch as well, yeah?” Garnacho walked away and replied, “Why are you not playing man?”

Ruben Amorim reacts to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s criticism of some players

Ruben Amorim has made it clear to his Manchester United squad that they have no reason to object to criticism from co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe recently stated in an interview that some United players are “overpaid and not good enough.”

Speaking ahead of their crucial Europa League clash against Real Sociedad on Thursday, Amorim was asked about the remarks. Instead of defending his team, he acknowledged the criticism and emphasized that it was up to both the players and coaching staff to prove Ratcliffe wrong.

“I think if we are being honest in this moment everybody, me, all the players are underperforming this season so we can always change that,” Amorim told a news conference on Wednesday.

“So I include myself in that part of underperforming. If you are a top player and play in this football and even me — a lot of people say I am not good enough for the club — and my feeling is you can change that with results. In training, I feel they want that really bad.”

Ratcliffe also highlighted several players whose transfer fees will still be paid this summer.

His list included signings considered disappointing at Old Trafford, such as Jadon Sancho, Antony, Rasmus Højlund, AndrÊ Onana, and Casemiro, a five-time Champions League winner.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s hopes in the Europa League rest on their struggling attack rediscovering its scoring touch.

“You are talking about players like Casemiro, for example, that won everything and we know that these kinds of players can play so much better,” Amorim said. “So that is the focus. He was honest in that.

“The focus is to change his mind and to change all people’s minds.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘furious’ over Man Utd’s sale of Scott McTominay but proud of Maguire, Fernades

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he was disappointed when the club sold Scott McTominay but takes pride in seeing Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire remain at Old Trafford.

McTominay, a graduate of United’s academy, departed for Napoli in a £25 million transfer during the summer window—a move primarily driven by the club’s efforts to meet Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

Since joining the Serie A side, the 28-year-old has flourished, delivering standout performances and becoming an integral part of Napoli’s squad. His contributions, including seven goals and four assists across all competitions, have cemented his role in the team’s push for silverware.

Reflecting on McTominay’s success in Italy, Solskjaer expressed frustration over United’s decision to let him go but remains encouraged by the continued presence of Fernandes and Maguire at the club.

In an interview with The Athletic, Solskjaer said, “Scotty is doing well at Napoli. I’m upset that we let him go because he was important last season when he kept popping up with goals. His heart and his knowledge of the culture were important.”

However, the Norwegian is happy to see Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire flourish at Old Trafford.

“It’s still good to see Bruno Fernandes and Harry (Maguire) doing well,” he said.
McTominay made his first-team debut under Jose Mourinho, but it was Solskjaer who truly gave him an extended run in the squad. During Solskjaer’s tenure, the midfielder featured in 115 matches, scoring 14 goals and becoming a dependable presence in United’s midfield.

“Scott has got the Man Utd DNA, and it’s sad to see him go,” Solskjaer had earlier told The Athletic in a separate interview. “It’s similar to when Jonny Evans and Danny Welbeck left. I’m sure he’ll go on to do great things and show both his football and personal qualities. He’s a top pro with a great attitude. He scores important goals for club and country while always wanting to learn and improve.”

This generation of players can’t handle criticism, it comes of as offensive to them – Erik ten Hag

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes today’s footballers struggle to handle criticism, viewing it as discouraging rather than constructive—unlike players from his generation.

During his tenure at Old Trafford, Ten Hag had several high-profile disputes with key players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford. His time in charge came to an end in October after two and a half years at the helm.

“This generation usually find it difficult to deal with criticism,” Ten Hag told SEG Stories, the media arm of his management agency. “Criticism really gets to them.

“The generation that I grew up in had much thicker skin. You could be much more direct.

“I was approached much more directly. If I would do that with my current group of players I would demotivate them.

“If you do that to the current generation they find it offensive.”

Erik ten Hag spent his entire playing career in the Netherlands from 1989 to 2002 before transitioning into management.

In his first season as Manchester United’s head coach, he guided the team to a third-place finish in the Premier League, securing Champions League qualification and winning the Carabao Cup.

However, his tenure was marked by high-profile clashes, including a fallout with Cristiano Ronaldo, who publicly criticized him in an interview with Piers Morgan, saying he had no respect for the Dutchman.

Ten Hag’s second full season was far more challenging. United slumped to eighth place in the league—their worst-ever finish—suffering a record 14 defeats. Early in the campaign, he had a public dispute with Jadon Sancho, dropping the winger after questioning his effort in training before a 3-1 loss to Arsenal.

Sancho responded by calling out the coach on social media. Another controversy arose in January 2024 when Marcus Rashford was dropped after a mix-up over the timing of a night out in Belfast.

Despite these struggles, United triumphed in the FA Cup final against Manchester City in May, leading to Ten Hag’s contract being extended by two years. However, after winning just four of United’s first 13 league matches, he was dismissed in October.

Speaking to SEG, Ten Hag revealed he had received multiple job offers since his departure but would not consider a return to management before July 1.

Meanwhile, his successor, RĂşben Amorim, has been unable to turn things around. United now sit 15th in the league with just 30 points, having suffered 12 defeats in 26 games.

Man Utd to let go of about 200 employees to reduce expenses, save money

Manchester United has revealed plans to lay off up to 200 more employees as part of ongoing efforts to reduce costs.

Last season, the club let go of around 250 workers during an initial round of job cuts. Now, just days after marking one year since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner, United has announced further redundancies. This time, between 150 and 200 staff members will be affected.

“We have a responsibility to put Manchester United in the strongest position to win across our men’s, women’s and academy teams,” CEO Omar Berrada said in a statement released on Monday. “We are initiating a wide-ranging series of measures which will transform and renew the club.

“Unfortunately, this means announcing further potential redundancies and we deeply regret the impact on those affected colleagues. However, these hard choices are necessary to put the club back on a stable financial footing.”

According to ESPN sources, Manchester United staff will learn between April and June whether they will lose their jobs due to the latest round of cuts.

The club has reported losses of over ÂŁ300 million ($379 million) in the past three years.

Last week, United released their latest financial report, revealing that revenue for the last three months of 2024 had fallen to ÂŁ198.7 million, compared to ÂŁ225.8 million during the same period in 2023.

“We have lost money for the past five consecutive years,” Berrada added.
“This cannot continue. Our two main priorities as a club are delivering success on the pitch for our fans and improving our facilities. We cannot invest in these objectives if we are continuously losing money.”

In addition to further redundancies, United are planning to move some staff from offices at Old Trafford to their Carrington training ground. There will also be a “reduced presence” at their London office in Mayfair.

In a staff meeting on Monday, staff were also informed that free lunches at Old Trafford will come to an end. A source has told ESPN that bosses expect the move to save the club more than ÂŁ1m every year.

Sources added to ESPN that the club will focus its charitable donations on the Manchester United Foundation (MUF) and Manchester United Disabled Supporters’ Association, with conversations ongoing with the MUF over the value of the contributions.

See David Beckham’s ‘sweet message’ to Gary Neville on his 50th birthday

David Beckham shared an emotional birthday message for his close friend and former Manchester United teammate, Gary Neville. On Tuesday, Neville celebrated his 50th birthday.

Beckham, who played with Neville at Old Trafford from 1992 to 2003 before moving to Real Madrid, posted the heartfelt message on social media to honor his friend.

Taking to Instagram, the Inter Miami co-owner uploaded two photographs of himself with Neville from their United days as his story and wrote: “Happy 50th mate. Couldn’t have asked for a better friend to always be there for me.” In the second story, he wrote: “We did it all. Love u mate, Happy 50th.”

Gary Neville, his brother Phil, and former Manchester United teammates Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, and Paul Scholes each bought a 10% share in Salford City, a lower-league football club. The remaining 50% was owned by Singaporean businessman Peter Lim.

In 2019, David Beckham joined his former teammates, purchasing a 10% stake from Lim. Then, in August last year, Neville bought out all of Lim’s shares, making him the majority owner of the League Two club.

Man Utd’s Amorim says he wouldn’t have Rashford in his squad if he doesn’t change

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says Marcus Rashford “must change” before he can play for the team again.

The 27-year-old forward has not played for United in seven weeks. In December, he stated that he was “ready for a new challenge.”

Once again, Rashford was not included in the squad for Thursday’s Europa League match against FCSB in Bucharest.

“Imagine a talent like Rashford, our team should be so much better with him – but he has to change,” Amorim said on Wednesday.

“If he changes, we are more than welcome [to include him] – and we need it. But in this moment we have to set some standards. We are waiting for Rashford, if he wants it really bad.

“You (the media) want to make it personal, I have nothing against Marcus, but I have to make the same rules for everybody.

“We need goals, we need [players who can go] one against one, we need threat in the final third.”

Rashford trained with Manchester United at Carrington on Wednesday morning but was left out of the 21-man squad for the Europa League match.

His exclusion comes amid growing speculation that he could leave Old Trafford before the transfer window closes on Monday.

After United’s 1-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday, head coach Ruben Amorim made it clear that he would rather pick his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach than play someone who does not meet his expectations.

Rashford, who came through United’s youth academy, made his senior debut in 2016. He has since scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for the club.

“The situation is the same for every player. I will not put [in] any player that doesn’t give the maximum,” added Amorim.

“When I feel it is the right moment, I will put in any player to play. We are a better team with Rashford, that is clear, but until the right moment I will not change my mind.”

Man Utd fans jeered at Partey during the FA Cup match at the Emirates Stadium

Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey faced boos and jeers during Arsenal’s FA Cup match against Manchester United on Sunday, January 12, 2024.

Partey came on as a substitute for Dutch defender Jurrien Timber during extra time in the third round of the FA Cup. However, Manchester United fans in the away section of the Emirates Stadium greeted his every touch with disapproval.

Despite the hostility, Partey stayed focused and successfully scored his penalty during the shootout for Arsenal.

Earlier in the match, Bruno Fernandes gave Manchester United the lead with a brilliant goal after Alejandro Garnacho took advantage of a slip by Gabriel MagalhĂŁes to set him up.

United’s momentum was disrupted in the 61st minute when Diego Dalot was sent off for a dangerous foul, leaving the team with 10 players.

Arsenal seized the opportunity and applied intense pressure, eventually finding an equalizer through defender Gabriel.

Despite having the numerical advantage, Arsenal failed to secure a winner, and the game ended 1-1 after extra time.

In the penalty shootout, Kai Havertz missed a crucial penalty, allowing Manchester United to win 5-4 and progress to the fourth round of the competition.

We want him here – Man Utd’s Onana on Ruud van Nistelrooy

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain as RĂşben Amorim prepares to step in as the club’s new manager. However, goalkeeper AndrĂŠ Onana has expressed the squad’s desire for the Dutch coach to stay on.

Van Nistelrooy took over as interim manager following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal and has remained unbeaten in his three matches, including a 2-0 victory over PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday, marking United’s first European win in over a year.

A former United forward, Van Nistelrooy has indicated his interest in continuing with the club’s revamped management team once his interim role concludes this Sunday with a Premier League home match against Leicester City.

Asked if United’s players wanted the same, Onana told TNT Sports: “100%. He’s a very good guy, a very good coach.
“He has so much experience and he advises us a lot.

“It’s fantastic what he’s doing and the players are happy. But at the end of the day, it’s not something we can decide. The club make the decision and we have to accept it.”

Van Nistelrooy said his sole focus was preparing the team for his last game in charge.
“I’m only busy with one thing in my mind,” he said.

“I want my last game as an interim, I want to prepare it as good as I can and give the players everything they need to get the best performance out of them … And other than that, I don’t look too far ahead, to be really honest.”

RĂşben Amorim named as new Manchester United manager

39-year-old Portuguese manager, RĂşben Amorim, is set to join Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon on November 11. He has signed a contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2027.

Following the departure of Erik ten Hag, former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken on interim managerial duties and will oversee the team’s next three matches.

With Amorim’s appointment, he becomes the sixth permanent manager for United since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, marking another significant chapter in the club’s ongoing search for stability and success.

In a statement, the club said that “Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football”.

Sporting CP has officially announced that Manchester United will pay 11 million euros (ÂŁ9.25 million) to activate a release clause in the contract of manager RĂşben Amorim.

Amorim is set to make his debut as the Red Devils’ head coach on November 24, following the international break, with a Premier League match against newly promoted Ipswich Town.

His first home match will take place on November 28 in the Europa League against Norwegian team Bodo/Glimt, followed by a league encounter against Everton the subsequent weekend. United has indicated that details regarding Amorim’s coaching staff will be revealed at a later date.

Amorim has successfully led Sporting since taking over, steering the team through an impressive 14-game unbeaten streak after a loss to Porto in the Portuguese Super Cup on August 3.

He will be on the sidelines for Sporting’s upcoming league match against Estrela on Friday at 20:15 GMT and will also manage the club in their Champions League fixture against Manchester City next Tuesday.

His final game with Sporting is scheduled for November 10 against his former club Braga before the break for Nations League matches.

West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville has revealed that he shares a special bond with Ghanaian winger and teammate Mohammed Kudus.

Summerville, who celebrated with Kudus after scoring against Manchester United, asserted that he idolises the Ghanaian.

The Dutch forward explained that he celebrated his goal with Kudus to fulfil a promise he made before entering the game.

“Yeah, yeah, very close. I like Mo [Kudus] a lot. I look up to him as well, on the pitch, off the pitch. So, yeah, I was happy. I told him when I come on, I’m going to score and I’m going to celebrate with you. So, that’s why the emotions came up,” he explained.

Summerville came off the bench to net the opening goal in West Ham United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

This marked his first goal since joining the Hammers from Championship side Leeds United.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus was absent from the lineup, serving a three-game suspension due to an altercation during West Ham’s previous defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

  • Man Utd sack Erik ten Hag

Man Utd sack Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag has been denied a contract extension at Old Trafford, seeing to his exit, following a disappointing start to the season.

The announcement was made on Monday, and former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who previously served as Ten Hag’s assistant, will step in as interim manager immediately.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” a club statement said.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”

Manchester United has managed to secure only three victories in their first nine league matches this campaign, including a late 2-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday. Ten Hag’s performance has not met the expectations of the club’s new ownership.

The Dutchman faced considerable pressure last season when Manchester United finished in a record-low 8th place in the Premier League. However, he ended the season on a high note by defeating Manchester City to secure the FA Cup at Wembley.

Despite exploring options for potential replacements during the summer, Ten Hag was awarded a one-year contract extension and received support in the transfer window.

Unfortunately, the team’s results and performances failed to improve. Following a loss to West Ham, United now sits in 14th place in the table, adding to earlier disappointing home defeats against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur this season. While winning the FA Cup final provided him with some reprieve, Ten Hag has ultimately been dismissed after two and a half years at the helm.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined Ten Hag’s coaching staff at the beginning of the season, will take charge, with his first match set for Wednesday night against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

United’s revamped football operations department, which had previously supported Ten Hag over the summer, concluded that the team’s performance was unlikely to improve under his leadership. In nine league matches this season, United has scored only eight goals, making it the third lowest in the Premier League, while the club currently ranks 14th in the table.

Don’t blame Ten Hag, blame the players – Man Utd’s Maguire defends coach

Harry Maguire has called on Manchester United’s players to take accountability for their recent poor performances, rather than placing the blame on embattled manager Erik ten Hag.

With just three wins from nine matches this season, Ten Hag faces increasing scrutiny as United prepare for their upcoming clash against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Tensions escalated further after United squandered a two-goal advantage in a 3-3 draw against FC Porto in the Europa League on Thursday. However, Maguire believes the responsibility lies with the players, not the manager, for the team’s struggles.

“As a footballer, it’s easy to look around and blame other people and blame your teammate or blame the staff or the tactics,” Maguire said.

“You’ve got to look at yourself. We’re the ones that go on the pitch. We’re the ones that have to defend. You’ve got to take responsibility.”

Sources have told ESPN that Ten Hag could face the sack if his team loses at Villa Park on Sunday.

United did the double over Villa last season — winning 2-1 at Villa Park in February — and Maguire believes a similar result on Sunday could finally kick-start their season.

“We’ve got to find belief within ourselves,” he said. “Take the belief from what we did last season at Villa Park. It was on fire last season there. Then we went there and got the victory that we needed last season. And we feel like we’re playing better than we were last season.

“The results haven’t been there. I feel like we should have more points on the board. But they’re not, so we need to do something about it starting with Sunday.”

Harry Maguire has experienced a rollercoaster week, coming off the bench to score a stoppage-time equaliser in Manchester United’s 3-3 draw against FC Porto, despite learning earlier that day that he had been excluded from the latest England squad.

The 31-year-old expressed his surprise at interim head coach Lee Carsley’s decision but shared that he had been reassured about his future with the national team.

“He [Carsely] told me I’m a big part of the future,” Maguire said. “He just wants to see the other lads playing in this camp. And he doesn’t want to take me if I’m not going to start either game [against Greece and Finland], which is fair enough.

“Of course I’m disappointed. I want to play every game for England. But I know where he’s coming from, and I’ve got to make sure that I perform when I’m on the pitch and give him no option to leave me out.

“I was a little bit surprised, I must say. But obviously I back his decision and he’s told me I’m part of the future.”. He emphasized the underutilization of solar energy in Africa and described the situation as tragic

David de Gea struggling at Fiorentina because he’s been away for over a year – Ex- Juve star

A former Juventus goalkeeper believes David de Gea is “struggling” at his new club, Fiorentina, after spending over a year away from first-team action.

The Spanish shot-stopper parted ways with Manchester United in the summer of 2023, bringing an end to his 12-year stint at Old Trafford.

After 14 months without a club, the 33-year-old joined Fiorentina this summer, but his return to football has been challenging. Now, former Genoa goalkeeper Rubinho has shared his thoughts on de Gea’s early performances with La Viola.

Rubinho told Radio Firenze Viola after a 0-0 draw with Empoli: “De Gea is still suffering from having been out for more than a year. But he has already helped Fiorentina a lot in these first games.

I think he can only grow further and show everyone the qualities he has. He is a top goalkeeper, and seeing him defend Fiorentina’s goal reminds me of when there were the likes of [Francesco] Toldo and [Sebastien] Frey.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbg3ymd01M4

David de Gea has featured in five matches across all competitions this season, managing to secure one clean sheet so far.

Despite his involvement, teammate Pietro Terracciano has also had game time in goal for Raffaele Palladino’s squad, with the coach indicating that the competition for the starting goalkeeper position remains wide open.

He said in September: “There isn’t a hierarchy right now. I wanted to see De Gea and Terracciano to understand. I am happy with both. David hadn’t played for a year, so I preferred Terracciano. We’ll evaluate a few things in the coming days.”

After a lengthy absence from top-tier football, De Gea may be experiencing some rustiness. He will be aiming to secure a starting spot for Fiorentina when they face The New Saints in their Europa Conference League opener on Thursday evening.

If he doesn’t feature in that match, the former Manchester United goalkeeper could see action against AC Milan in their Serie A clash on Sunday night.

Ten Hag to remain with Man Utd despite heavy defeat to Spurs – Sources

Manchester United is poised to retain manager Erik ten Hag for their upcoming matches against Porto and Aston Villa this week despite suffering a disappointing loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The team has struggled this season, currently sitting in 12th place in the Premier League.

Several high-ranking sources within Manchester United have informed BBC Sport that it’s business as usual, with the club concentrating on the forthcoming fixtures against Porto and Villa. There has been no formal statement from the club regarding Ten Hag’s position.

Speaking after the 3-0 loss against Spurs Ten Hag said he was “not thinking” about losing his job, adding he and the owners are “on the same page”.

Erik ten Hag secured a new contract over the summer, and just last month, club CEO Omar Berrada expressed that he had the organization’s complete support.

Although Ten Hag is under increasing pressure, sources from BBC Sport indicated on Monday morning that the club’s leadership prefers to assess situations thoughtfully rather than react hastily to a negative outcome.

Regardless, Ten Hag is entering a crucial week, with upcoming matches against Porto in the Europa League and Aston Villa in the Premier League before the international break in October.

Ten Hag slams Man Utd for not giving their best during FC Twente

Erik ten Hag raised concerns about his players’ mentality, stating that the Dutch team “fought for every inch while we did not” following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with FC Twente in the Europa League.

United initially took the lead with a goal from Christian Eriksen in the first half, but the tide turned in the second half when Sam Lammers capitalised on a mistake by Eriksen to equalise.

After the match, Eriksen admitted that FC Twente “showed more desire,” a sentiment that Ten Hag echoed in his response.

“Yes, you saw it was the game of their life,” said Ten Hag. “They fought for every yard and we didn’t, and 99 percent is not enough, you have to give 100 percent.

“You have to kill the game, you have to finish it off. You have to go for the second goal, and then you kill the game.

“We are very ambitious, and when you have ambition, you have to perform; prove the point. Especially today in the second half, we were too complacent, we didn’t bring it over the line and as a team.”

Erik ten Hag expressed particular frustration over Manchester United’s inability to capitalise on scoring opportunities. Following their 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday, the team managed to take 19 shots against FC Twente but could only find the back of the net once.

This season, the struggle to score has been evident, with United tallying just five goals in their first five Premier League matches.

“We have to work on this,” said Ten Hag. “That’s also clear. We have to be more clinical in such situations, but I don’t think that was the only problem tonight. We have to keep going in the second half. Be more consistent. Kill it off, get the second goal, and the game is over.

“We have across the frontline enough players who can score goals.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer anticipates a hopeful return to Man Utd even after previous dismissal

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his willingness to return as Manchester United manager, saying he would “say yes every day of the week” if approached by the club.

Solskjaer, 51, has been out of management since his dismissal in November 2021, after nearly three years at United. He originally took charge on an interim basis in December 2018 following José Mourinho’s exit.

Despite leading United to a second-place finish in the COVID-affected 2020-21 season, Solskjaer struggled to secure any trophies. His departure came after a string of poor results, including a 5-0 loss to Liverpool, and six defeats in 11 matches.

With current manager Erik ten Hag facing mounting pressure after just three wins in eight games this season, Solskjaer has hinted that he would be open to a return if the opportunity arises.

“If the family [United] asks, I would say yes every day of the week,” Solskjaer said in a Q&A at the Oslo Business Forum. “It feels wrong to talk about jobs that other people have now, but I would say yes, of course.”

Ten Hag, meanwhile, urged patience from United’s supporters in his Thursday news conference ahead of their clash with Tottenham on Sunday.

“Still we are working and progressing, we made a choice to sign very young players,” he said. “We believe in them this moment and also for the future.

“We have to build them. That takes time. I am impatient, I want to go straight forward, but also we had success in two seasons.”

Since parting ways with Manchester United three years ago, Solskjaer has taken on the role of technical observer for UEFA, where he contributed to the Euro 2024 technical report after attending the tournament in Germany this summer.

While he has been rumoured to be considering managerial positions with clubs in Turkey and the Middle East, Solskjaer expressed interest in the possibility of coaching the Norwegian national team.

With current head coach Stale Solbakken likely to resign after Norway’s 2026 World Cup campaign, Solskjaer indicated that he would welcome the opportunity to step in when the position opens up.

“I am a proud Norwegian, and of course if the question arises, when StĂĽle decides to give up, I will happily engage in discussions,” Solskjaer said. “I am a proud Norwegian and proud of where I come from.”

Man Utd hire architects to present Old Trafford recommendations by year’s end

Manchester United has engaged the internationally acclaimed architectural firm Foster + Partners to create a comprehensive masterplan for the area surrounding Old Trafford as part of an ambitious redevelopment initiative.

The Premier League club is exploring two potential paths: either refurbishing the existing stadium, which is the largest club venue in the UK, or constructing a new stadium on adjacent land owned by the club.

Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of United, leans towards the idea of building a new facility, and discussions within the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force have reportedly focused on the concept of a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000 rather than renovating the current one.

Foster + Partners, based in London, has also been entrusted with overseeing a ÂŁ50 million upgrade of United’s Carrington Training Complex.

Norman Foster, a prominent figure in architecture, is known for designing some of the world’s most recognisable structures, such as the HSBC Building in Hong Kong, London’s “Gherkin,” and the revamped Reichstag in Berlin.

Foster, founder and executive chairman of Foster + Partners, said: “As a proud Mancunian, I am passionate about the chance to rebuild on Manchester’s great industrial heritage, creating a vibrant new mixed-use community, served by highly sustainable and improved transport links, providing homes and jobs for the local community, all catalysed by a world-class stadium for the world’s most famous football team – Manchester United.”

United’s chief operating officer, Collette Roche, said: “Lord Foster has unrivalled experience in delivering projects of this scale and ambition.”

The anticipated cost for a new stadium is estimated to be around ÂŁ2 billion, and the task force is set to provide its final recommendations by the year’s end.

Supporters are being encouraged to share their opinions on the redevelopment plans.

Gary Neville, the former United captain who is a member of the task force, has called on fans to actively participate in the consultation process.

FIFA partners with WHO in new concussion drive

On Wednesday, FIFA and the World Health Organisation (WHO) unveiled a new global initiative focused on concussion awareness.

Named “Suspect and Protect: No Match is Worth the Risk,” the programme, created in collaboration with brain health specialists, seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of traumatic brain injuries and provide valuable resources for managing these risks, according to their joint announcement.

“By knowing the signs of concussion, by being aware of the risks, and by treating a concussion correctly, you can help to put player safety first,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.

In March, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) sanctioned the use of permanent concussion substitutes following a successful trial, with the new rule making its debut in this year’s Copa AmĂŠrica.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO, emphasised the need for heightened awareness about concussions across all levels of football.

“WHO is proud to team up with FIFA… to promote ways to protect the brains of footballers,” he added.

A perfect night says Ten Hag as Man Utd thrash Barnsley 7-0

Erik ten Hag celebrated a resounding victory as Manchester United defeated Barnsley 7-0 in the Carabao Cup, calling it a “perfect night.”

Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Christian Eriksen each scored two goals, with Antony converting a penalty to complete the scoreline.

This triumph marked Ten Hag’s biggest win since taking charge of United and was the club’s largest victory since their 9-0 thrashing of Southampton in February 2021 under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“Not for me but for the team this is the perfect night,” Ten Hag said afterwards. “I think we could do everything that we planned to do; how we win, next round, scored some great goals, entertained the fans, we worked on our game model so we are happy.”

Ten Hag took the opportunity to rotate his lineup for the Carabao Cup match against Barnsley, making eight changes from the side that defeated Southampton 3-0.

Marcus Rashford was one of the few to retain his spot, adding two goals to his tally after scoring at the weekend. This marked the first time the England forward scored multiple goals in a match since February 2023, when he netted twice in a 3-0 win over Leicester City.

“I know from my first season here that when he scores then, for the team, it’s more easy,” said Ten Hag. “When you have a player in your squad who is a guarantee for goals then it can make the difference.

You can do a lot of things very well between the boxes but football matches are decided in the box.”

United have bounced back from the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool by scoring 10 goals without conceding against Southampton and Barnsley.

“I was not devastated after Liverpool, and I am not celebrating now,” said Ten Hag. It is a never-ending process. I know where I want to go, in which direction.

I know we have a lot of speed, dynamic, and we have seen this today and we have players capable of dominating possession. We have to work even harder to get all the stages of the game right.”

Another Ten Hag- Antony ‘drama’? See what the coach has to say to out-of-favour winger

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has delivered a stern message to Antony regarding his limited playing time this season.

Antony has found it difficult to secure a regular spot in Ten Hag’s lineup, having appeared for just one minute in the Premier League so far, as a late substitute against Brighton.

Last season, the Brazilian had only five goal contributions across all competitions, and Ten Hag seems to be questioning his commitment during training.

With Manchester United set to face Barnsley in the League Cup midweek, Ten Hag has the opportunity to rotate his squad. However, it remains uncertain whether Antony will feature in the match.

Ten Hag has emphasised that Antony needs to significantly improve his training performances to earn more playing time.

Ten Hag told reporters: “We have training every day, and the players have to earn the right to play.

When players are doing the right things in training, when the attitude is good and they show performance in training,, then they will earn the right to play.”

Manchester United will take on Barnsley in a midweek League Cup fixture before resuming Premier League play against Crystal Palace this weekend.

Antony will be hoping for some playing time in these upcoming matches.

Bruno Fernandes acts like a ‘diva’ sometimes -Emmanuel Petit

Emmanuel Petit has criticised Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, calling him a “diva” and suggesting that Kobbie Mainoo could be the future leader of the team.

The former Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona star praised Fernandes for his skill with the ball but questioned his suitability as captain due to his on-field conduct.

Petit noted that Fernandes frequently displays frustration towards his teammates during difficult moments, pointing to his behavior during United’s 7-0 loss to Liverpool in March 2023 as a prime example of his unsatisfactory leadership.

During an interview on Drive, Petit remarked: “I think he’s a good player, but I think he’s a diva.

He acts like a diva sometimes, not like a captain – he wears the armband, but if I’m honest with you, if I’m a teammate in the dressing room and you see the way he’s behaving sometimes on the pitch with his arms all the time complaining, you don’t want that from your captain.

You don’t want that from your teammate and you don’t expect that from your leaders.”

Petit suggested that Fernandes’ performance and demeanour have changed since signing his new bumper contract at Old Trafford.

“I was very impressed during COVID-19 without fans in the ground because he was amazing game after game,” he said. “But he signed a new contract and I saw him with Portugal as well and sometimes I get annoyed when I watch him on TV.

I just want to get into the TV and just play in front of him as an opponent to shake him on the pitch.”

When asked who he would choose as Manchester United captain instead of Fernandes, Petit had a surprising suggestion.

He highlighted Kobbie Mainoo, a rising star in United’s ranks, as a potential future leader as the 18-year-old has impressed many with his mature performances and calmness on the field.

“It’s hard to find the right leader in the team, but the best player so far this season is the youngest one or even (Alejandro) Garnacho,” Petit said, referring to Mainoo.

“I think Mainoo has the potential to wear the armband but he’s too young.”

Bruno Fernandes’ exceptional vision has established him as the key orchestrator in Manchester United’s midfield, with the Portuguese star racking up an impressive 79 goals and 67 assists across 237 games.

He is set to return to action in their upcoming match against newly-promoted Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, September 14.

  • Ronaldo goes after Man Utd again for ‘sour’ treatment at the club

Ronaldo goes after Man Utd again for ‘sour’ treatment at the club

Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has once again criticised the Red Devils while discussing his future with the Portuguese national team.

Ronaldo, who made a highly anticipated return to Manchester United in the summer of 2021, enjoyed a strong first season back at Old Trafford.

However, his second season was marred by a series of underwhelming performances, leading manager Erik ten Hag to bench the veteran striker.

Frustrated with his reduced role, Ronaldo publicly criticised both the club and Ten Hag in a controversial interview, which ultimately resulted in the termination of his contract.

Now, as he reflects on his future with Portugal, Ronaldo has taken another opportunity to express his discontent with his former club.

Speaking to A Bola, Ronaldo responded to questions about whether he’s ready to represent the national team as a substitute: “In my mind, I’ll always be a starter. That’s what you think. Until the end of my career, I’ll always think that I’ll be a starter.

“I’ll always respect the decisions, not just of the coach, but at the clubs I’ve played for, I’ve always respected them… once or twice, they’ve also behaved badly towards me (laughs). But seriously, whenever there’s professional ethics, I’ll always respect the coaches’ decisions.

“When professional ethics are not respected, there can always be controversy, but that is separate.

What I feel at the moment, and the coach’s words also demonstrate this, is that I continue to be an asset to the national team, and I will be the first to admit it. If that does not happen, if I am not an asset, I will be the first to leave.

“But if I leave, I will go with a clear conscience, as always, because I know who I am, what I can do, what I do and what I will continue to do.

I see the present in a very positive way because for me the most important thing is to face each moment, each cycle, and the cycle is good; I feel happy.”

Ronaldo has received a lot of flak for his role in Portugal’s underperformance in both Euro 2024 and World Cup 2022.

The former Real Madrid star was pushed off to the bench in Qatar by Fernando Santos; however, the head coach was replaced by Roberto Martinez, who has stuck with Ronaldo in the national team despite his struggles on the field.

Ronaldo failed to score a single goal in Germany earlier this year, but Martinez has revealed that the 38-year-old will remain a starter for the future.

The 39-year-old forward will now join the Portuguese national team squad for their Nations League clashes against Croatia and Scotland before he returns to Saudi Arabia.

Galatasaray sets eye on Man Utd’s Casemiro – Source

Galatasaray are reportedly eyeing Manchester United midfielder Casemiro as a potential transfer target, according to sources.

The Turkish giants are actively searching for a midfielder and have identified the Brazilian as a key option on their shortlist.

With the Turkish transfer window remaining open until September 13, Galatasaray still has time to finalise their summer business.

Casemiro’s future at Manchester United is currently uncertain, especially after a disappointing performance in the recent 3-0 loss to Liverpool.

The 32-year-old was substituted at halftime following two costly mistakes that led to Liverpool’s first two goals, both scored by Luis DĂaz.

His role in Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup is also under scrutiny with the arrival of Manuel Ugarte.

The Uruguayan midfielder, who joined United on deadline day from Paris Saint-Germain in a ÂŁ50 million ($66 million) deal, missed the Liverpool match due to registration issues but could make his debut against Southampton on September 14.

Casemiro, who signed for Manchester United from Real Madrid in a ÂŁ60 million move in 2022, still has two years left on his contract at Old Trafford.

However, his hefty wages of over ÂŁ300,000 per week could pose a significant challenge for Galatasaray.

The Turkish club may explore a loan deal, potentially contingent on United’s willingness to cover part of his salary.

Galatasaray, the reigning Turkish champions, have already made waves in the transfer market by securing a surprise loan deal for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are looking to trim their wage bill, having already parted ways with high earners such as Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea, Anthony Martial, RaphaĂŤl Varane, and Jadon Sancho.

Despite being open to offers for Casemiro throughout the summer, anticipated interest from the Saudi Pro League failed to materialize.

Man City in talks with England’s interim coach for release of Foden ahead of UEFA Nations League

Manchester City is urging England interim manager Lee Carsley to release Phil Foden from the UEFA Nations League squad.

Foden, who missed Manchester City’s last two Premier League matches against Ipswich Town and West Ham United due to illness, has been included in England’s first squad since Gareth Southgate’s departure.

According to The Sun, City wants Foden to be released so he can fully recover and rejoin their lineup after the international break.

Although Foden remains a key player for Pep Guardiola’s team, his absence has not significantly impacted City’s performance.

The team scored seven goals in their previous two league games, with Erling Haaland scoring consecutive hat-tricks and setting a new record.

Last season, Foden was named Premier League Player of the Season, contributing 27 goals and 12 assists as City won the league title for the fourth consecutive year.

It is uncertain whether Lee Carsley will grant City’s request and allow Foden to leave the national camp. England is set to face the Republic of Ireland in their UEFA Nations League opener on Saturday.

‘I’m not a magician’ – Ten Hag on club’s form after loss to Liverpool

Erik ten Hag acknowledged the challenges of integrating new signings into the squad so early in the season, following Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

In a tense press conference, the Dutch manager defended his record, reminding fans that he’s not a magician, saying, “I’m not Harry Potter.”

Despite the defeat, Ten Hag expressed confidence in his team, assuring supporters that they “will be fine” and still have a “big chance” of winning a trophy by the season’s end.

“It’s just the third game in the season; we have to build a new team,” Ten Hag said.

“I explained this so many times. We will build it. We have young players and players to build in. Today we had three players who started for the first time this season.

We will be fine. It is clear we have to improve, but at the end of the season, I am confident we will have a big chance to lift another trophy.”

Erik ten Hag had no choice but to substitute Casemiro at halftime after the Brazilian’s mistakes led to two goals for Luis DĂaz.

Meanwhile, new signing Manuel Ugarte, who joined for ÂŁ50 million ($65.6 million), observed from the stands after being introduced to the fans before the match.

Ten Hag acknowledged that the Uruguayan midfielder will need time to acclimatise and reach full match fitness.

“So this is another one; we have to build him into the team,” he said.
“It will take time, so it’s not like I’m Harry Potter. That is what you have to acknowledge.

And if you see Manuel Ugarte, he didn’t play so far in the season. Not one match minute. He needs to build his fitness, and then we have to build him in the team.”

A defiant Ten Hag also went on to reject a suggestion that his team continue to be punished for familiar mistakes.

“Maybe you can explain to me which mistakes,” he replied.

“You are sure? I don’t think so, otherwise you wouldn’t win trophies as we have. I am sorry for you. I think we won after [Manchester] City the most trophies in English football in the last two years, so I am sorry for you.

“There are [positives], but I don’t want to talk about this. It hurts, especially for our fans; we have to be humble and move on.”

Man Utd was aware of Leny Yoro’s metatarsal issue before ÂŁ52m signing – Reports

Manchester United reportedly knew about Leny Yoro’s potential metatarsal issues during his medical examination but proceeded with the transfer anyway.

The club finalized the acquisition of Yoro this summer for a fee of ÂŁ52 million ($68 million).

However, the French defender sustained a metatarsal injury during a friendly against Arsenal and is expected to be out for nearly three months following surgery.

According to The Athletic, United discovered the metatarsal problem during Yoro’s medical check-up before completing the deal.

Despite this, the Red Devils were determined to proceed with the transfer due to Yoro’s status as one of Europe’s top young talents.

United also wanted to finalize the transfer quickly to prevent Real Madrid from securing Yoro, despite the Spanish club offering Lille a lower fee.

Lille reportedly preferred United’s offer, which facilitated the move.

Fortunately for Erik ten Hag, who likely intended for Yoro to be a key player, United also signed Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.

De Ligt’s addition provides an alternative option for the starting position in defense.

“The team is not ready but the league starts” – Man Utd’s Ten Hag cries out

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed concerns that his team might not be fully prepared for their Premier League opener against Fulham on Friday.

New signings Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, who joined the squad just on Thursday, have had minimal time to train with their teammates, presenting Ten Hag with a selection challenge for the match at Old Trafford.

Adding to the team’s troubles, defender Luke Shaw is out with a calf injury, new ÂŁ52m signing Leny Yoro is sidelined for three months due to an injury sustained in early August, and forward Rasmus Hojlund is dealing with a hamstring issue.

Manchester United has invested nearly ÂŁ60m in bringing De Ligt and Mazraoui from Bayern Munich to strengthen their defense..

“The team is not ready but the league starts,” said Ten Hag.

“There are more managers who definitely have this problem but we have to make a start.

“We can’t hide from it. We can’t run away from it. We have to deal with it.”

United’s other summer signing, Netherlands striker Joshua Zirkee, was an unused substitute during the Community Shield defeat by Manchester City and could make his debut against Fulham.

  • Man Utd’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka joins West Ham

Man Utd’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka joins West Ham

West Ham United have signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United, the London club announced on Tuesday.

“It was a no brainer for me to join West Ham,” Wan-Bissaka said of his move. “I’m excited and happy to be here.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be back in London, and I’m excited for what’s coming. I was born here, so I know the ins and outs of London, which plays a big part in my life, so to be back playing in this city means a lot to me.

“I’m happy to be here, am grateful for the warm welcome, and I am excited to be playing for the club and will give it my all.”

West Ham’s technical director Tim Steidten added that he was pleased to sign a player with Wan-Bissaka’s domestic experience.

“I am delighted we’ve been able to get the deal to sign Aaron over the line,” Steidten said. “He’s exactly the type of player we’re looking to attract to this club in the prime years of his career.

“He’s an incredibly talented defender who we rate very highly — superb in one-on-one situations. He’s versatile too, which is clearly another positive. He’s played over 170 Premier League games during his career, he knows the division inside-out.”

A source informed ESPN on Saturday that if Wan-Bissaka leaves Manchester United, it could pave the way for the arrivals of Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.

United have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement to sign the duo for a combined fee of ÂŁ60 million ($76.7m), including add-ons.

Wan-Bissaka was notably absent from United’s squad during their Community Shield loss to Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday.

The club has set Wan-Bissaka’s valuation between ÂŁ15-20 million, amid interest from Galatasaray.

“I will take a lot of risks” – Onana’s plan ahead of season

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has declared his plan to embrace “a lot of risks” as the club targets a better 2024/25 season.

After joining from Inter for ÂŁ47.2m, Onana experienced a mixed debut season, with notable errors as he adapted to his new role, though he also made vital saves and improved significantly over the season.

The Cameroon international is undaunted by the challenges of risky situations and has warned fans to anticipate frequent risk-taking going forward.

“That’s me, and I think it’s what you’re going to see this season because I will take a lot of risks.

I can tell you in advance already!” Onana told reporters ahead of Saturday’s Community Shield.

“Be prepared because it’s going to be this season, trust me! I will enjoy it even more when this season starts.

The best teams in the world take risks. Building from the back, recognise things, situations, when the opponent jumps one against one, or when they press with three or with four.

“For me, it’s important to recognise those kinds of things and make the best decision for the team. I will take a lot of responsibility and I think my back is huge to carry it all. I think it’s going to be nice this season.”

Manchester United secured the FA Cup in May with a surprising victory over Manchester City at Wembley.

Despite this success, their season was difficult, featuring an early departure from the Champions League, no relief from the Europa League, and their worst-ever finish in the Premier League, ending in eighth place.

“One hundred per cent, I don’t think it was good enough last season because I’m coming from playing in the Champions League final [with Inter in 2023],” Onana commented.

“The FA Cup is important but not enough for Manchester United.

The targets have to be really high and we will go for it this season. I’m really excited about the new signings and I think with the way my teammates are working hard every day, I’m very positive.”

  • PSG begins talks with Man Utd over transfer of Jadon Sancho

PSG begins talks with Man Utd over transfer of Jadon Sancho

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is currently negotiating with Manchester United over the potential transfer of Jadon Sancho, according to Sky Sports.

Sancho, who rejoined Manchester United for the preseason after a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, seems to have patched up his previous disagreements with United manager Erik ten Hag.

Despite earlier tensions, Ten Hag has hinted that Sancho might play a leading role in the attack, particularly with Rasmus Højlund sidelined due to injury.

At 24, Sancho is reportedly open to a move to PSG, and the French club is confident that negotiating personal terms will be straightforward.

Borussia Dortmund and Juventus are also showing interest in the winger, who is valued at ÂŁ40 million by Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte appears to have diminished due to the high transfer fee demanded by PSG.

It remains uncertain whether a deal involving both Sancho and Ugarte can be finalized.

Man Utd’s shirt sponsor willing to consider purchasing naming rights for the club’s stadium

Snapdragon, Manchester United’s shirt sponsor, would be interested in exploring any opportunity to help fund the club’s new stadium by buying naming rights.

The tech company has replaced TeamViewer as United’s front-shirt sponsor this season after agreeing a three-year deal worth ÂŁ180 million ($230m).

United are open to the possibility of selling naming rights to their new stadium — either a brand new venue or a redevelopment of Old Trafford—and Snapdragon would be interested if the opportunity arose.

“Old Trafford is Old Trafford; it should always be Old Trafford,” Don McGuire, chief marketing officer of Snapdragon’s parent company, Qualcomm, said.

“But if there is a brand attached to that in some way, shape or form, powered by someone, an ‘at’ or whatever … this Snapdragon Stadium at Bashor Field.

“We are working very closely with the team on the re-imagination of Old Trafford from a technology and innovation standpoint, as well as Carrington.

“So if that leads to something bigger, where it would make sense for us to go even bigger — this [shirt sponsor] is pretty big by the way, not inexpensive — but if it makes sense, we are always looking out for opportunities.”

Sources indicate that Manchester United’s task force, which has been assigned to oversee the stadium project, has tentatively proposed constructing a new 100,000-seat stadium on land located behind Old Trafford.

A final decision on this proposal is not expected until the end of the year.

This option is also preferred by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s new co-owner.

The club has stated that all funding options are being evaluated for the project, which is anticipated to span approximately six years and exceed ÂŁ2 billion in cost.

While the potential sale of naming rights is under consideration, Manchester United has emphasised that no decisions will be finalized without first consulting with their supporters.

Liverpool’s Arne Slot demands ‘better’ ball control from squad after win over Man Utd

Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, acknowledged that his team has ample room for growth despite concluding their U.S. preseason tour with a 3-0 victory over Manchester United in South Carolina on Saturday.

Slot, who took over from JĂźrgen Klopp in May, also led Liverpool to victories against Arsenal and Real Betis. The team will next face Sevilla at Anfield before traveling to Ipswich Town for their Premier League season opener on August 17.

Asked if he was pleased with his side’s performances so far, the Dutchman said: “Yes, I was but not with all of them. We are very happy with the result, we scored some really nice goals … very positive tour.

“But I don’t think we had enough control over the game, I think we gave away too many chances. United deserved more than a 3-0 loss but it’s also our quality that we do score our own chances.

“We will see how players [returning from holiday] fit into the team. We need to work hard in the upcoming two weeks to be ready.”

  • Sancho to replace Rasmus at season start following latter’s injury

Sancho to replace Rasmus at season start following latter’s injury

Erik ten Hag has indicated that Jadon Sancho might take on the role of Manchester United’s central striker at the start of the season, given Rasmus Højlund’s injury.

Højlund is expected to be sidelined for six weeks due to a hamstring injury sustained during the first match of the U.S. tour against Arsenal.

With Højlund out, Sancho, who was reintroduced to the squad after a 10-month absence, played as the No. 9 in the recent 3-2 win over Real Betis and the 3-0 loss to Liverpool.

Ten Hag suggested that Sancho could begin as the center-forward in the Community Shield against Manchester City and in the Premier League opener against Fulham, ahead of new signing Joshua Zirkzee.

“Yes, otherwise we wouldn’t play with him there,” said Ten Hag when asked whether Sancho could start up front against City at Wembley.

“That is what we can do if we don’t have the availability of Rasmus, but of course, Joshua Zirkzee, he is coming in, he has started training, but also consider that he is not so long in training, so that will take time, and he has to adapt to English football and our way of playing as well.

“There is also, of course, Jadon, as a striker. We know he can play in wide areas, but also as a false striker, he’s an option.”

Joshua Zirkzee, who was signed from Bologna for ÂŁ36.5 million, has yet to train with the team since his return to Carrington after the summer break, as he did not participate in the American tour.

Jadon Sancho, who rejoined Manchester United after a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund last season, has not netted a competitive goal for the club since May 2023.

Marcus Rashford could also be considered to fill the gap left by Højlund, but Ten Hag suggested that Rashford will likely remain in his customary position on the left wing.

“I think that Marcus has done it [played as a striker] before and he can do it, and it’s definitely an option,” said Ten Hag.

“But I think he is most productive from the left, starting wide and coming inside. So when he can arrive there, he is most effective. We have other options. We have Bruno Fernandes who can play as a striker as well.”

  • Erik ten Hag calls Manchester United’s owners to stand by him

Erik ten Hag calls Manchester United’s owners to stand by him

Erik ten Hag has issued a challenge to Manchester United’s new owners, urging them to “prove” their support by standing by him during tough times next season.

Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, Ten Hag has retained his position. However, the club’s new leadership team, headed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford, has been exploring potential replacements.

While Ten Hag’s contract has been extended by another year, some supporters feel his position is still uncertain, especially if United does not have a strong start to the season.

Ten Hag emphasized that Ratcliffe and Brailsford can demonstrate their support only by maintaining their faith in him through both successful and challenging periods.

“I feel that we are building something and that the people around me, we are in the same boat,” Ten Hag said in an extensive interview in Los Angeles on the club’s preseason tour.

“But of course it’s always a proven point when the case is this. What I hope is that we avoid this [a dip in form].”

Ten Hag is building his team around a nucleus of young talent, such as Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Højlund.

The club’s most significant acquisition this summer has been 18-year-old defender Leny Yoro. Ten Hag emphasized that the owners must exhibit patience as this youthful squad develops.

“With young players it will go with ups and downs and we have to realise that,” he said.

“Everyone has to realise this in this club internally but also you [the media] should realise this externally. It’s normal that it will not only go this way [up] with young people, young players especially.”

Meanwhile, Ten Hag has also revealed that Tyrell Malacia is expected to be out for another two months. The left-back hasn’t played for more than a year because of a knee injury and was left out of the squad for the tour.

“He is not that far, but he is now in a progress situation,” Ten Hag said.

“At a relatively short notice, he can again return into team training and then into team performance in games. I think it would be possible in two months.”

Man Utd’s Yoro, Højlund to be sidelined for long over injury – Source

Manchester United faces a double injury setback with Leny Yoro and Rasmus Højlund expected to be sidelined for extended periods, sources informed ESPN.

Yoro will be out for three months due to a foot injury, while Højlund is set to miss six weeks with a hamstring problem.

Both players sustained their injuries during United’s 2-1 loss to Arsenal in Los Angeles, the first match of their U.S. tour.

Yoro, an 18-year-old ÂŁ52 million summer signing from Lille, has a fractured metatarsal and may require surgery.

He will remain with the squad for the rest of the tour and undergo further tests upon returning to Manchester on Sunday.

Højlund will also miss the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley on August 10 and the start of the Premier League season.

United’s injury troubles worsened on Wednesday night when Marcus Rashford had to leave their friendly against Real Betis due to a severe knock to his right ankle in the second half.

United’s league campaign begins against Fulham at Old Trafford on August 16.

Yoro might return in October, while Højlund aims for a comeback post the September international break.

This situation presents a significant challenge for manager Erik ten Hag, who attributed last season’s disappointing eighth-place finish to injuries.

Sources revealed that United was already looking to strengthen their defense before Yoro’s injury, and this search is likely to intensify.

There is interest in Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, as well as Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
