  • This is how decision on Greenwood’s return to Man Utd was ruled out

This is how decision on Greenwood’s return to Man Utd was ruled out

Rationale behind Manchester United’s decision not to reintegrate new Marseille signing Mason Greenwood has come to light. Prior to Greenwood’s £23.3 million ($30m) transfer to Marseille last week, United’s management deliberated over the forward’s future.

Former chief executive Richard Arnold decided against bringing Greenwood back into the squad last summer after plans to reintegrate him leaked, causing a furious backlash from fans.

In February, minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had not dismissed the idea of Greenwood’s return, but the player ultimately joined Marseille on a permanent basis.

According to The Athletic, the new INEOS-led regime at United revisited Arnold’s decision and evaluated the feasibility of Greenwood’s return.

They concluded that public sentiment would strongly oppose his comeback and deemed it would be too disruptive and distracting for the team.

Additionally, they needed to raise funds for new signings while adhering to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Greenwood, who had a successful loan spell at Getafe last season and was linked with moves to Lazio, Barcelona, and other clubs, reportedly was not interested in returning to Old Trafford. He was also allegedly displeased with how the club handled their internal disciplinary process.

He had not played for United since January 2022, following his arrest on charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive and controlling behaviour—charges that were dropped in February 2023.

Despite some criticism from Marseille fans after his move to the Ligue 1 team, Greenwood could feature in a pre-season friendly against SC Toulon on Wednesday ahead of the new season.

  • Erik ten Hag-Jadon Sancho reunion could backfire – Man Utd legend Dwight Yorke

Erik ten Hag-Jadon Sancho reunion could backfire – Man Utd legend Dwight Yorke

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has cautioned Erik ten Hag that his reconciliation with Jadon Sancho might backfire. The English winger has resolved his issues with Ten Hag and is now playing a significant role in pre-season.

However, former United striker Yorke suggests that tensions could resurface if the Red Devils fail to win matches when the new Premier League season begins in mid-August.

“It’s a really bizarre scenario there with Jadon Sancho and one I don’t think either party expected to be in,” Yorke said in an interview with BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League betting.

“Ten Hag wasn’t meant to win the FA Cup, but he did. Jadon Sancho wouldn’t have expected Ten Hag to win, which would’ve led to the manager being sacked and his return.

But Sancho has got three more years on his contract and he’s one of the highest-paid players.

There are only very few clubs around the world that will be able to afford his salary, so he’s not going anywhere so that’s caused a little bit of a dilemma.

“How do you settle this? You have a man-to-man conversation and try to settle the whole disagreement. The problem is if they don’t get off to a good start and they’re losing football matches.

I think fingers will start to be pointed at each other again. It’s a situation to watch and it’s all well and good trying to make up but if things go belly up then these things can blow up in the face of the manager.”

Yorke also warned United against putting Rashford up for sale, with it widely reported they are ready to listen to suitable offers. The England international endured a bleak run of form that saw him score just eight goals in 43 appearances in the 2023-24 campaign.

“If it’s £40 million or £50 million then it would be nothing in the modern game and he’s so much better than that, with the ability he has shown us in the past,” Yorke said.

However, the former striker believes that a £100 million bid would be difficult for new part owners INEOS to turn down.

“United should keep Rashford, but £100 million would create a dilemma,” he added.

“If PSG for instance are to bid £100 million, it would really stir up the pot because that is a huge amount of money even though he is still one of United’s best players.”

As Sancho has been regaining his form under Ten Hag, Rashford had difficulties in the match against Rosenborg and was later rested against Rangers due to a reported minor injury.

Manchester United will now head to the United States for the next stage of their pre-season. They are set to face Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool before returning home.

  • Ferdinand’s persuasion finalized Yoro’s signing with Man Utd

Ferdinand’s persuasion finalized Yoro’s signing with Man Utd

Manchester United enlisted the help of legendary defender Rio Ferdinand to persuade highly-rated Leny Yoro to join the club.

Yoro was pursued by several of Europe’s top teams, including Real Madrid, this summer.

Ultimately, he chose United, signing a five-year contract following a £52m move from French club Lille.

Ferdinand reached out to Yoro via social media, welcoming him to Old Trafford. The 18-year-old, speaking to the club’s in-house media, noted that the former England star had already taken a more direct approach in his mentorship.

“Two weeks ago, he called me,” said Yoro.

“We spoke for 10 minutes about Man United, so he helped me a lot to make my choice.”

“He mainly spoke about the club and what it’s like. That this is a historic club with a big story, and if I go there I need to fight for the club, to be ready, because this is the biggest club in the world.

“It was really good to speak about this.”

Yoro made an impressive debut in the pre-season victory against Rangers at Murrayfield.

Based on his self-assessment, Yoro’s style shows similarities to that of Ferdinand, who was signed by United for £29.1m from Leeds 22 years ago.

“The football of today, you need to read the game,” he said.

“You need to understand the opponent and I try really to be focused on that. After that, I’m really comfortable with the ball. You know, I’m not afraid to play.”

  • Ten Hag admits former Utd boss’ assessment of club needing an “open-heart” surgery

Ten Hag admits former Utd boss’ assessment of club needing an “open-heart” surgery

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has affirmed that former interim boss Ralf Rangnick was “absolutely right” in stating the club needed “open-heart” surgery.

Ten Hag, who took over in 2022 after Rangnick’s seven-month tenure, has acknowledged the German’s assessment.

Rangnick, now managing Austria, had steered United to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League but secured only 11 wins out of 29 matches.

Rangnick had asserted that United’s issues required more than just “minor changes” and called for significant intervention. Ten Hag, who extended his contract by another year this month, agrees with Rangnick’s evaluation.

“Rangnick was absolutely right,” Ten Hag said in an interview with Dutch newspaper AD Sportwereld., external

“We have been working very hard on this for two years, but he said it exactly right: it is a thorough, very complex operation. And I knew when I started that it was going to be a tough job.”

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a 27.7% stake in United last December, the club has undergone significant changes off the pitch.

This year, Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth, Jason Wilcox, and Christopher Vivell have all been appointed to board-level positions. Additionally, the club has committed £50 million to upgrade the training ground.

In the past week, forward Joshua Zirkzee and defender Leny Yoro have been signed from Bologna and Lille, respectively. Manager Erik ten Hag has also confirmed interest in Bayern Munich and Netherlands center-back Matthijs de Ligt.

“It remains to be seen whether De Ligt will come,” said Ten Hag.

“Of course I know Matthijs well, I’m not going to deny that. I wanted to sign him two years ago, but he had already gone a long way with Bayern Munich.”

Despite working with De Ligt at former club Ajax, Ten Hag says it was United’s scouting department that suggested the centre-back as a transfer target.

Ten Hag also confirmed that forward Jadon Sancho, who last appeared for the club in August 2023 and spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund after falling out with the manager, is available again for selection.

“Everyone can make a mistake,” said Ten Hag.

Sancho and Yoro both started as goals from Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill saw United beat Rangers 2-0 at Murrayfield in a friendly on Saturday.

“The standard was much better, we were much more on the front foot,” Ten Hag told MUTV. “It was enjoyable to watch.”

  • Man Utd-West Ham in advanced talks over Aaron Wan-Bissaka transfer to Kudus’ club

Man Utd-West Ham in advanced talks over Aaron Wan-Bissaka transfer to Kudus’ club

West Ham are making a strong push to acquire Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka at a reduced price this summer.

According to talkSPORT, the Hammers are eager to strengthen their defense and are advancing in negotiations with Manchester United to finalize the deal.

Wan-Bissaka could transfer to East London for as little as £15 million (€17.8m/$19.5m), a significant reduction from the original £50 million (€59.5m/$65.1m) that United paid to Crystal Palace in 2019.

Although Manchester United would incur a substantial loss on Wan-Bissaka, the deal is beneficial for both clubs.

West Ham would gain a quality player to compete with or potentially replace Vladimir Coufal, while Manchester United would create space for incoming player Leny Yoro, who is completing his medical ahead of his move from Lille.

Wan-Bissaka was a regular starter for United last season when not sidelined by injury. With only one year remaining on his contract, he appears set to conclude his five-year tenure at Old Trafford.

The England international was part of the squad that won the FA Cup against rivals Manchester City a few months ago, which may have been his final appearance in a red shirt.

The deal is not yet finalized, and it is unclear whether Wan-Bissaka is interested in returning to the capital.

Currently, he is scheduled to join the club’s pre-season tour in the US, but this could change if West Ham submits an official bid soon.

  • Mason Greenwood en-route to Marseille for medical – Reports

Mason Greenwood en-route to Marseille for medical – Reports

Mason Greenwood is nearing a transfer to Marseille, as the Manchester United outcast heads to France for a medical examination.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, an agreement has been reached for Greenwood to join the Ligue 1 team on a permanent basis.

Marseille has scheduled a medical for the 22-year-old, who is expected to sign a five-year contract thereafter. Manchester United will receive €30 million (£25 million/$32.7 million) from the deal.

Greenwood’s departure will mark the end of his career at Old Trafford, giving him a fresh start in France.

Despite some resistance to the transfer, including Marseille’s mayor calling Greenwood a “disgrace” and urging the club not to proceed, manager Roberto De Zerbi has pledged to support Greenwood if the move goes through. Some fans have also opposed the transfer.

Last season, Greenwood made 36 appearances for Getafe in all competitions, netting 10 goals and providing six assists.

His performances, despite the surrounding controversy, attracted interest from both Lazio and Marseille.

Greenwood is expected to clear the standard medical tests and meet new head coach Roberto De Zerbi as he finalizes the deal. Once completed, Greenwood will begin preparations for the new season with Marseille.

  • Jadon Sancho returns to Man Utd after meeting with Erik ten Hag

Jadon Sancho returns to Man Utd after meeting with Erik ten Hag

Jadon Sancho has returned to Manchester United after a meeting with Erik ten Hag to discuss his future at the club.

Following a public disagreement with Ten Hag that led to his exile last season, Sancho is now back in training after resolving the issues with the Dutchman.

According to Sky Sports, their discussion focused on Sancho’s future, resulting in a mutual decision to move past their previous conflicts, potentially paving the way for Sancho’s inclusion in United’s squad for the upcoming season.

Sancho will not be part of United’s squad for their pre-season friendly against Rosenborg, but he will be available for selection afterward.

The Red Devils are set to face the Rangers on July 20.

During his productive loan spell back at Dortmund, Sancho scored three goals and provided three assists in 21 games across all competitions.

He has made 82 appearances for United, scoring 12 goals and registering six assists.

As United prepare for their match against Rosenborg, attention will soon shift to Ten Hag’s team selection. Seeing Sancho back in a red shirt would be a notable development.

  • Ten Hag labels new assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy as “a man of character”

Ten Hag labels new assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy as “a man of character”

Erik ten Hag is optimistic that Ruud van Nistelrooy will bring a touch of “Manchester United DNA” back to Old Trafford in his return as an assistant coach.

Van Nistelrooy’s comeback is part of a broader restructuring aimed at propelling the club forward in the coming seasons. Alongside Van Nistelrooy, Ten Hag has appointed Rene Hake to the coaching staff.

Both have signed two-year contracts, replacing Benni McCarthy and Mitchell van der Gaag. This marks Van Nistelrooy’s return to Old Trafford after 18 years, while Hake joins from his previous role at Go Ahead Eagles.

Van Nistelrooy’s coaching career has been characterized by steady progression. After retiring from professional play in 2012, he transitioned to coaching in 2013. His journey included stints with PSV Eindhoven’s Under-19 and Under-21 teams, culminating in success with the first team by winning the KNVB Cup in 2023.

Despite interest from other clubs such as Burnley and Leicester City, Van Nistelrooy opted to join Ten Hag at United, underscoring his dedication to the club where he made his mark as a player.

Ten Hag has expressed full confidence in Van Nistelrooy’s coaching acumen and personal qualities.

“First of all, his character has brought him so far and it’s an example for everyone here in the building,” Ten Hag said.

“Of course, he will also bring some DNA of Manchester United in, but that character is such a strong driver and that is also what he shows as a coach. He has such a highly interesting profile, he’s so ambitious, he has the skills and he already has a lot of experience.

“He’s assisted the Dutch squad, in PSV he did the Under-19s as a manager, he did the Under-21s, Jong PSV, who were playing at the second level and then he was manager of the first team. So much experience, but very young, very ambitious, and very driven. With his skills and his intelligence, he will help all the players and the team.”

Meanwhile, Hake’s addition also highlights his extensive professional bond with Ten Hag, forged nearly two decades ago during their tenure at Twente. Hake’s recent accomplishments with Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivisie further underscore his qualifications.

His deep understanding of Ten Hag’s methodologies and principles is poised to facilitate the seamless integration of fresh tactics at United.

These new appointments promise an exciting season ahead for Manchester United supporters. Ten Hag’s initiative to revitalize the coaching staff aims to usher in a new era of triumph at Old Trafford.

The return of an esteemed figure like Van Nistelrooy not only evokes nostalgia but also strategically aims to motivate and propel the current squad toward greater heights.

  • Joshua Zirkzee picks preferred shirt number as he wraps up on Man Utd transfer

Joshua Zirkzee picks preferred shirt number as he wraps up on Man Utd transfer

Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly chosen his desired shirt number at Manchester United ahead of his anticipated transfer to Old Trafford.

United have been in search of an additional forward to support Rasmus Hojlund, and it appears they have found their candidate in Zirkzee.

Standing at 6’4″, Zirkzee aims to contribute significantly to Erik ten Hag’s squad, helping them climb the Premier League table and compete for top honors.

Zirkzee’s professional journey began at Bayern Munich, where he struggled to secure regular playing time. He experienced loan spells at Parma and Anderlecht before making a permanent move to Bologna in 2022.

During his time with Bologna, he has netted 14 goals and provided nine assists in 58 appearances.

Should this transfer materialize, Zirkzee will soon be introduced as a United player. Following the Netherlands’ exit from Euro 2024, he will take a brief summer break before joining the Red Devils for pre-season preparations.

  • Man Utd sees backroom overhaul as two key medical staff depart Old Trafford

Man Utd sees backroom overhaul as two key medical staff depart Old Trafford

Manchester United are undergoing significant changes in their medical and coaching staff as part of a comprehensive restructuring led by INEOS.

According to reports from The Daily Mail, the club is set to part ways with two longstanding first-team physios, Richard Merron and John Davin.

Merron, who has been with Manchester United for 23 years and served as a first-team physio since 2017, and Davin, a fixture in the medical staff since June 1997, will be departing as part of efforts to overhaul the medical department.

The restructuring is being spearheaded by Gary O’Driscoll, who joined Arsenal last September as head of sports medicine. O’Driscoll has been instrumental in reshaping the medical team, including bringing in Jordan Reece from Arsenal to replace Robin Sadler as head of physio.

Additionally, Ibrahim Keren has moved from the women’s team to a significant role with the first team, while Neil Hough has left his position in the academy.

O’Driscoll’s tenure has prioritised addressing the fitness challenges that Manchester United faced last season, during which the team grappled with nearly 70 separate cases of injury or illness.

The departure of Merron and Davin is seen as part of a broader strategy to bolster the club’s sports medicine capabilities, rather than an indictment of their individual performances.

On the coaching front, new assistants Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake, along with goalkeeper coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar, have joined Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff.

This marks the beginning of a new era as the team prepares for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Mitchell van der Gaag and goalkeeper coach Richard Hartis are among those leaving, while Steve McClaren is expected to assume a new role within the coaching setup.

As the restructuring continues, INEOS aims to establish a sustainable framework for success, blending tradition with modernization to propel Manchester United to new heights in both domestic and European football.

Further announcements regarding personnel changes and operational adjustments are anticipated throughout the 2024-25 campaign.

  • Man Utd’s quarterly financial report shows a huge loss during a difficult season

Man Utd’s quarterly financial report shows a huge loss during a difficult season

Manchester United faced financial challenges in the third quarter of a challenging season, announcing job cuts and an increase in ticket prices.

The Premier League club, under new leadership following British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a significant stake in and control over football operations, has been undergoing significant restructuring.

Despite being a 20-time English champion, United finished a disappointing eighth in the Premier League, prompting a comprehensive review of the club’s operations by management and ownership.

United plans to implement a club-wide redundancy program affecting approximately 250 jobs, along with a planned 5% increase in ticket prices for the upcoming season.

Erik ten Hag remains in his role as head coach for the new season, while the club has introduced new executives, including a CEO, finance chief, sporting director, and technical director, recruited from rival clubs to drive organisational change.

“The club is undergoing a meaningful transition both on the pitch and off in the operations of the company, which should serve it well over the next few years,” said Tim Fidler, Portfolio Manager at Ariel Investments, the third-largest investor in the club’s publicly traded shares.

“Despite the disruption, we are optimistic that the club’s long-term prospects are in excellent health,” he added, saying plans to develop the Old Trafford stadium would be key.

Manchester United’s upcoming season will include participation in the Europa League following their FA Cup final victory over local rivals Manchester City in May.

Owned predominantly by the Glazer family, the club has faced criticism over the past decade for its lavish spending on players, from Argentine World Cup winner Angel Di Maria to Brazilian winger Antony.

During the third quarter, player and staff wages saw a notable 7.3% increase, reaching £91.2 million. As of the end of March, the club’s debt stood at $650 million.

The transfer window has been relatively quiet, with new owner Jim Ratcliffe emphasising a cautious approach to spending in pursuit of major trophies.

For the three months ending March 31st, Manchester United reported a net loss of £71.4 million ($91.4 million), a significant increase from a £5.6 million loss the previous year.

Projected annual revenue for the fiscal year ending June is around £660 million, with adjusted core profit expected to reach approximately £140 million, slightly below earlier anticipated levels.

Incoming CEO Omar Berrada, formerly with Manchester City’s parent company, City Football Group, is set to commence his role at United this weekend.

Man Utd secures Yoro deal, Real Madrid remains optimistic – Sources

Manchester United have agreed to a €45 million deal with Lille for Leny Yoro, sources have revealed.

Despite Real Madrid’s strong interest, United hope their higher offer will persuade Lille to sell the 18-year-old center-back to them.

Madrid is confident in securing Yoro due to his desire to join Los Blancos, even though they have not yet made a formal bid. They aim to negotiate a slightly lower fee with Lille.

Paris Saint-Germain is also interested in Yoro, but Madrid remains optimistic, having reached an agreement with the player, according to ESPN sources.

Yoro’s contract with Lille expires in June 2025, and he does not intend to renew, pushing the French club to sell him this summer rather than lose him for free next year.

  • Man Utd, Man City given green light to compete in European football next season

Man Utd, Man City given green light to compete in European football next season

Manchester City and Manchester United have received the green light to participate in European competitions next season, as confirmed by UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB).

Concerns had surfaced regarding Manchester City’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League, alongside LaLiga’s Girona, both of which are owned by the City Football Group.

Concurrently, Manchester United secured a spot in the Europa League by winning the FA Cup, while Nice, a Ligue 1 team owned by Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group, also qualified.

The involvement of two clubs under the same ownership in one European competition posed a potential conflict with UEFA’s multi-club ownership regulations. Consequently, adjustments had to be implemented at the board level of all four clubs to ensure their eligibility.

UEFA confirmed on Friday that there had been “significant changes made to the ownership, governance, and financial support of the concerned clubs” which would “substantially restrict the investors’ influence and decision-making power.”

The shares held in Girona and Nice have been transferred to independent trustees “through a blind trust structure established under the supervision of the CFCB.”

The arrangement is limited to the current 2024-25 season, after which ownership shares will revert to City Football Group and INEOS.

Ratcliffe obtained a 27.7% stake in United in February, while INEOS, the chemical company he established and currently leads as CEO, acquired Nice in 2019.

According to a source familiar with the matter, UEFA has already intervened to prevent United from pursuing the signing of Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

“They’ve said we can sell him to another Premiership club,” Ratcliffe said in an interview last month.

“But we can’t sell to Manchester United. But that’s not fair on the player and I don’t see what that achieves.”

UEFA announced on Friday that Manchester United and Manchester City have mutually agreed to a transfer embargo with their affiliated clubs, Nice and Girona, respectively, until September 2025.

This agreement effectively prevents any player transfers between these clubs during the upcoming summer transfer window in 2025.

Despite this restriction, sources informed ESPN that Manchester City are likely to finalize the signing of Sávio during this summer. The winger, previously on loan at Girona, will join City from Troyes, his parent club, which did not qualify for the Champions League.

  • Man Utd willing to consider offers for Rashford – Reports

Man Utd willing to consider offers for Rashford – Reports

Man Utd is willing to consider offers for Rashford.

Rashford’s future was closely linked to that of Ten Hag. With Ten Hag staying on as head coach, the club is looking to generate funds by selling the 26-year-old academy graduate.

Manchester United is seeking £80 million for Rashford but may have to settle for around £60 million due to his dip in form last season, which also led to his exclusion from Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros.

Tensions between Rashford and Ten Hag reportedly escalated towards the season’s end, especially after Rashford chose to party in Belfast instead of attending training at Carrington.

This incident followed a warning from Ten Hag regarding Rashford’s behavior after a heavy derby defeat to Manchester City.

The most damaging incident in their relationship occurred when Rashford was omitted from an FA Cup tie against Newport County. He had stayed out late on Friday and then called in sick the following day, with the match scheduled for Sunday.

Rashford had anticipated Ten Hag’s departure, hoping for a fresh start.

However, new United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe decided to retain Ten Hag after the Dutchman led Manchester United to victory in the FA Cup final.

  • Confirmed: Erik ten Hag’s contract extended by Man Utd until 2026

Confirmed: Erik ten Hag’s contract extended by Man Utd until 2026

Man Utd have confirmed the extension of Erik ten Hag’s contract as manager until 2026. This vote of confidence from United’s new minority owners, INEOS, comes a month after they ended the search for a new manager.

United have activated the extension on Ten Hag’s original three-year contract, which means he will continue on the same terms without a salary increase.

The club is also in the process of assembling a new coaching staff for Ten Hag, with legendary striker Ruud van Nistelrooy being considered for a position.

“I am very pleased to have reached agreement with the club to continue working together. Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined,” Ten Hag said.

“However, we must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead to reach the levels expected of Manchester United, which means challenging for English and European titles.

In my discussions with the club, we have found complete unity in our vision for reaching those goals, and we are all strongly committed to making that journey together.”

“With two trophies in the past two seasons, Erik has reinforced his record as one of the most consistently successful coaches in European football,” said Dan Ashworth, United’s new sporting director.

“While the club’s review of last season highlighted areas for improvement, it also reached a clear conclusion that Erik was the best partner for us to work with in driving up standards and outcomes.

This group of players and staff have already shown they are capable of competing and winning at the top level; now we need to do it more consistently.

With our strengthened football leadership team now in place, we are looking forward to working hand-in-hand with Erik to achieve our shared ambitions for this football club.”

United conducted a thorough search for a new manager after a significant decline in their performance towards the end of last season, resulting in their lowest-ever Premier League finish, ending eighth.

The club considered Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna, Mauricio Pochettino, and Thomas Frank, and engaged in serious discussions with Thomas Tuchel, before ultimately deciding that Ten Hag was the best fit for the role.

Ten Hag’s leadership in guiding United to victory in the FA Cup final against Manchester City played a crucial part in their decision to give him another opportunity to set things right.

Currently, Ten Hag is serving as a pundit for Dutch broadcaster NOS during Euro 2024, but he will soon begin preparing for United’s pre-season campaign.

This kicks off on July 15 with a friendly against Rosenborg in Norway. The Red Devils will also play against Rangers before heading to the United States, where they will face Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool.

Additionally, they will meet City again at Wembley in the Community Shield before starting their Premier League campaign against Fulham on August 16.

Official! Man Utd’s Mary Earps joins PSG

England goalkeeper Mary Earps has joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, the French club announced on Monday.

Earps has signed a contract with PSG that will run until the end of the 2025-26 season, following the expiration of her contract with Manchester United at the end of June. Despite previous talks to extend her stay at Old Trafford, no agreement was reached.

This marks Earps’ second venture outside of England, having played for Wolfsburg during the 2018-19 season. She joined Manchester United the following year, making 102 appearances for the club across all competitions.

The 31-year-old earned the WSL Golden Glove award for the 2022-2023 season, setting a new league record with 14 clean sheets.

Earps was instrumental in Manchester United’s FA Cup victory last season, securing the club’s first major trophy in history. She delivered a series of exceptional saves in the semifinal against Chelsea and kept a clean sheet in the final against Tottenham.

During her tenure at United, Earps also achieved international success, winning the Euros with England in 2022 and earning the Golden Glove at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Despite her impressive penalty save in the final against Spain, England fell short, losing 1-0.

Recognized as one of the world’s premier goalkeepers, Earps received The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper award in January, marking her second consecutive win.

Man Utd women to vacate their training grounds to for the men’s team – Sources

Man Utd plans to relocate their women’s team to temporary buildings at their Carrington training complex next season, allowing the men’s squad to utilize the women’s facility during renovations, sources have confirmed.

According to a source, the decision to move the women’s team to portable buildings has left the players disappointed.

Last year, the club unveiled a £10 million ($12.6m) facility shared by the women’s team and academy, featuring amenities like a gym, rehabilitation areas, changing rooms, and a restaurant with live cooking. However, ongoing renovations now necessitate temporary arrangements.

The Guardian, which broke the news, noted that the portable buildings will house essential areas such as changing rooms, meeting rooms, offices, and communal spaces for the women’s team and staff. Despite the changes, they will continue to use the same pitches and canteen facilities as before.

Renovation work commenced recently on a £50 million upgrade of the men’s first-team building, scheduled for completion by the end of the 2024-25 season.

When revealing the £50m investment, the club said: “Temporary adaptations will be made to the rest of the Carrington site to ensure players and staff from all our teams can continue to operate successfully next season.”

News of the intention to move the women’s team to temporary buildings comes after INEOS chairman and United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said the plans for the women’s team are still to be confirmed.

“We haven’t got into that level of detail with the women’s team yet,” he told Bloomberg. “We’ve been pretty much focused on how we resolve the first team issues, and that’s been pretty full time for the first six months.”

When asked if the plans were to be confirmed, Ratcliffe responded, “Correct.”

Sources have revealed that United are set to lose one of their most high-profile players in Mary Earps, who has rejected a contract extension with the club, with the England goalkeeper closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Man Utd, Man City, Barca in the race for RB Leipzig’s Olmo

Several top European clubs, including Barcelona, Man Utd, and Man City, are actively pursuing RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo, according to Nicolo Schira.

Olmo, 26, had an impressive season in the Bundesliga, contributing four goals and five assists, which has sparked interest from multiple top-tier teams across the continent.

Reports indicate that Olmo has a release clause of €60 million, valid until July.

Manchester City is reportedly looking to bolster their midfield options, especially with Kevin De Bruyne’s contract entering its final year and interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

The uncertain future of Bernardo Silva at the Etihad Stadium adds to City’s interest in Olmo, who could potentially fill a crucial role for the Premier League champions.

Barcelona, despite their financial challenges, are also in the race for Olmo’s signature.

The midfielder has expressed interest in joining the Catalan giants previously, but Barcelona’s financial constraints could complicate any potential deal.

Manchester United is another club keen on Olmo, aiming to strengthen their attacking options this summer.

Olmo’s versatility, capable of playing on the wing or as a striker, makes him an attractive prospect for the Red Devils as they look to enhance their squad.

Man Utd talks with Ten Hag for new deal underway – Sources

Man Utd is set to finalize a new contract with manager Erik ten Hag before their preseason tour in the United States, according to a source.

The club has engaged in discussions with Ten Hag about extending his tenure, having decided to keep the Dutchman on as manager for the upcoming season.

Sources describe the negotiations as “complicated” but note that talks between the club and the 54-year-old have “progressed well.”

United are hopeful of securing an agreement before their U.S. tour, which kicks off with a match against Arsenal in Los Angeles on July 27.

Their initial preseason friendly is set for July 15 against Rosenborg in Norway, just one day after the Euro 2024 final.

The discussions with Ten Hag have also included redefining his role at Old Trafford. Since joining in July 2022, the former Ajax manager has been heavily involved in player recruitment.

However, new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team are eager for Ten Hag to concentrate on coaching and team preparation.

Juve may use a key player as a bargaining chip for Man Utd’s Mason Greenwood

Juventus is reportedly considering offering a prominent player as part of a deal to secure Mason Greenwood from Manchester United this summer.

Greenwood showcased his talent during a loan spell at Getafe last season, scoring five goals and providing one assist, which earned him the club’s Player of the Season award for 2023-24.

Several clubs, including Juventus and Lazio, have shown interest in Greenwood, suggesting his tenure at Old Trafford may be nearing its end.

Chiesa, whose contract with Juventus runs until 2025, is seen as a valuable asset for potential transfer dealings, although his final decision is expected after Euro 2024.

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Chiesa’s future at Juventus, hinting that his continuation with the club remains a possibility despite ongoing speculation.

“Juventus and Federico Chiesa’s agent Ramadani have already decided to meet after the Euros in order to decide his future,” he said.

“No negotiations over new deal at this stage, Juve are still open to proposals but Chiesa’s decision will be after Euro2024. Full focus on the pitch.”

Following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Albania and a narrow 1-0 defeat to Spain, Chiesa and the Italian squad face a crucial task of regrouping before their upcoming match against Croatia.

Their aim is to secure passage to the knockout stages of the tournament in Germany.

Italy currently occupies the second position in Group B, holding a two-point advantage over Croatia, who are in third place.

  • Man Utd, Nice owner Ratcliffe bemoans UEFA rules barring player transfer among the two clubs

Man Utd, Nice owner Ratcliffe bemoans UEFA rules barring player transfer among the two clubs

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has revealed that UEFA’s regulations on multi-club ownership have hindered the club from acquiring a player from Ligue 1 team Nice.

Ratcliffe’s company, INEOS, acquired Nice in 2019 and later secured a minority stake in Manchester United earlier this year.

Although transferring players between clubs with shared ownership isn’t outright banned, the qualification of both Nice and Manchester United for next season’s UEFA Europa League has complicated their ability to engage in transfer dealings with each other.

UEFA rules state: “No individual or legal entity may have control or influence over more than one club participating in a UEFA club competition,” with control defined as: “Being able to exercise by any means a decisive influence in the decision-making of the club.”

Sources have it that United were interested in signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

“They’ve said we can sell him to another Premiership club, but we can’t sell to Manchester United,” Ratcliffe, who did not name the player in question, said in an interview with Bloomberg. “But that’s not fair on the player and I don’t see what that achieves.”

Sources have told ESPN that United have decided that Erik ten Hag will stay on as manager after a season in which the club recorded its lowest ever Premier League finish but won the FA Cup.

Ratcliffe said that he is more focused on creating the right “environment” at the club, rather than personnel, as he attempts to take United back to the summit of English and European football.

“The coach isn’t the central issue at Manchester United,” the INEOS boss said. “It’s a sports club. It needs to be competitive, it needs a degree of intensity, but with a supportive side to it because you are dealing with players who are relatively young. It hasn’t had that type of environment historically.”

Ratcliffe expressed his support for Manchester City after the club launched legal action against the Premier League over Associated Party Transaction rules (APT).

The Premier League’s APT rules, originally introduced in 2021 following the Saudi Arabia-backed takeover of Newcastle United, were tightened in February in an attempt to regulate clubs signing lucrative sponsorship deals with companies linked to their owners.

“I can understand why they are challenging it,” Ratcliffe said. “You can understand why they would say that they want an open market, free market.”

The Labour Party has committed to establishing a new football regulator if they win the upcoming UK general election. This regulator would aim to impose stricter controls on club spending to prevent financial mismanagement and protect the interests of fans.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe voiced his opposition to the proposed legislation and also criticized the “anchoring” system that Premier League clubs plan to test next season.

The “Top to Bottom Anchoring” system restricts spending to a multiple of the lowest projected combined prize money and TV rights revenue a team is expected to earn.

“If you’ve got a government regulator at the end of the day they will regulate and that won’t be good,” he said.
    “‘What would anchoring do?’

It would inhibit the top clubs in the Premiership. The last thing you want in the Premiership is for the top clubs in the Premiership not to be able to compete with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and PSG.”

Lazio is facing competition from Juventus in their pursuit of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, according to reports.

Discussions have commenced between Lazio and United regarding a potential deal for Greenwood, who spent the previous season on loan with Getafe.

United is seeking to reach an agreement on a transfer fee around £30 million ($38.1 million), although it is anticipated that this could involve several performance-related bonuses.

A year ago, Lazio came close to securing Greenwood on loan before Getafe intervened. According to a source, United prefers negotiating a permanent transfer this summer rather than another loan arrangement.

Apart from Lazio and Juventus, other Serie A clubs, including Napoli, have also expressed interest in the 22-year-old forward.

There has also been attention from clubs in Spain, Portugal, and Germany.

Sources revealed that Greenwood and his family are open to another move abroad as he continues to rebuild his career.

The striker has not featured for United since January 2022 following his arrest on suspicion of attempted rape and assault, with the case being dismissed in February 2023.

In February, new United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe hinted that Greenwood could potentially revive his career at Old Trafford.

However, sources informed ESPN that a return to United is currently considered the least likely scenario this summer.

Greenwood impressed during his loan spell at Getafe last season, scoring 10 goals. Despite Getafe’s interest in bringing him back to the club, they are unable to meet United’s financial demands.

Man Utd showed up at my doorstep just to ask me to stay on as manager – Ten Hag

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has revealed that his summer holiday was interrupted by the club when they flew out to inform him they wanted him to stay.

Despite doubts about his future before leading United to an FA Cup final victory, the club decided to retain the Dutchman.

“The club management came to me while I was on holiday in Ibiza,” Ten Hag said on Dutch TV channel NOS. “They suddenly showed up on my doorstep and told me they wanted to continue with me.”

Manchester United ended last season in eighth place, marking their lowest finish in the Premier League era.

Rumors circulated that new United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had conversations with former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel.

However, the Red Devils ultimately chose to retain Erik ten Hag.

“Manchester United have told me that they spoke with Tuchel, but they eventually came to the conclusion that they already have the best manager,” he added.

“Ineos took their time. They are new in football, it’s normal to reflect on the season. It’s no secret that they talked with multiple candidates.”

In his first season at the helm, the Dutchman guided the club to third place in the Premier League, and also steered them to the finals of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Subsequently, in 2023, he secured victory in the EFL Cup.

Despite having the support of the United board, Ten Hag confirmed that negotiations for a new contract are still ongoing.

He said: “Manchester United and I still have to find an agreement for the new contract. This isn’t easily done – we are still going to have to talk about this.”

Man Utd considering Matthijs de Ligt for a potential move this summer – Reports

Man Utd are reportedly considering a bid for Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, according to reports.

Internal discussions have allegedly begun among the leadership at Old Trafford, with the 24-year-old Dutch defender included on their list of targets for the upcoming transfer window.

The club is said to be in the process of “gathering more information” about De Ligt, and a potential move could materialise if they decide to make an offer of around €50 million.

De Ligt played a pivotal role under manager Thomas Tuchel last season, appearing in 30 matches across various competitions for the Bundesliga outfit.

He is viewed as an alternative option to Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.

While reports suggested that personal terms were recently agreed upon with Branthwaite, Team Talk notes that Manchester United still need to bridge a significant gap with Everton over the transfer fee.

Man Utd’s interest in Branthwaite declines following a £70m price tag

Man Utd are ready to explore other options if Everton remain firm on their valuation of Jarrad Branthwaite, a source has revealed.

Branthwaite is a top target for United in the summer transfer window, but Everton’s price tag of over £70m poses a significant hurdle.

According to sources, Branthwaite is eager to join Old Trafford, and initial discussions with the 21-year-old’s representatives have been positive.

While United plan to submit a formal offer, a source indicated that Everton must lower their fee demands for the deal to proceed.

Additionally, sources revealed that United have alternative centre-back targets, including Marc Guéhi, Jean-Clair Todibo, Leny Yoro, and Matthijs de Ligt, and are willing to shift their focus if Everton refuses to negotiate.

Chelsea are preparing to compete with Man Utd and several other clubs for the signing of Michael Olise, having initiated contact with Crystal Palace to discuss a potential deal for the winger, a source told ESPN’s James Olley.

The 22-year-old has also garnered interest from Newcastle and Bayern Munich, with United previously viewed as the leading contenders for his signature should he depart Palace this summer.

However, Chelsea are determined to pursue Olise and have approached their London rivals to avoid a repeat of last August’s confusion, when Chelsea believed they had triggered the player’s release clause, only for the deal to fall through as he signed a new contract with Palace.

This new contract includes a release clause valued between £50m and £60m, though there is uncertainty regarding whether it applies solely to clubs in the Champions League.

A source mentioned that Chelsea’s inquiry is focused on clarifying the specifics of this clause, given their qualification for next season’s Conference League.

Juventus launches a £40m transfer bid to ‘push’ Man Utd for Greenwood

Juventus have reportedly submitted a £40 million ($51m) bid to Manchester United, aiming to prompt a decision on Mason Greenwood.

The Bianconeri seek additional creativity and goal-scoring prowess, with Greenwood catching their eye following a successful loan stint at Getafe, where he scored 10 goals.

Napoli, another Italian heavyweight, is also interested, but Juventus have now made an official offer, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Discussions between the Turin-based outfit and Premier League giants United are said to have been “underway for some time”.

Manchester United have not yet approved Greenwood’s sale, awaiting potential counter offers, which could prompt Juventus to explore other options from Old Trafford.

One such alternative is Jadon Sancho, who recently featured in Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League final appearance and is reportedly also on Juventus’ radar.

Several potential deals are currently under consideration at Allianz Stadium, including Juventus’ interest in Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Reports suggest they may propose a part-exchange deal involving USMNT’s Weston McKennie and England U21 international Samuel Iling-Junior to secure the Brazilian playmaker.

  • Erik ten Hag to remain Man Utd’s manager – Source

Manchester United have opted to retain Erik ten Hag as manager, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Speculation surrounded the Dutchman’s future following a disappointing Premier League campaign, but the club’s triumph in the FA Cup final against Manchester City marked a positive conclusion to the season.

Following an extensive review conducted by new co-owners INEOS, led by Sir Dave Brailsford, the decision was made to keep Ten Hag at the helm.

Sources revealed to ESPN that the review unequivocally recommended Ten Hag’s continuation as manager.

Talks between Ten Hag and the club are underway to discuss a contract extension beyond his current deal, which was set to expire in 2025.

These discussions were described as constructive, focusing on the outcomes of the review.

Ten Hag’s inaugural season at Old Trafford saw a commendable third-place finish in the Premier League and success in the Carabao Cup.

However, the subsequent season witnessed a downturn, with United’s league performance hitting an all-time low as they finished eighth.

Despite winning the FA Cup, their European and domestic struggles led to consideration of potential replacements for Ten Hag, including Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Frank, Kieran McKenna, and Graham Potter.

Moreover, interest was also expressed in England manager Gareth Southgate.

Ten Hag has repeatedly insisted injuries were to blame for poor results and was defiant in the face of intense questioning about his future following the FA Cup final at Wembley, saying: “If they [United’s owners] don’t want me, then I go somewhere else to win trophies because that is what I do.”

Following Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Wembley, securing his second trophy in as many seasons, Erik ten Hag has been enjoying a holiday in Ibiza.

Now that he has received confirmation that he will retain his position as manager, it is anticipated that he will return to Carrington for the commencement of preseason training in July. United’s summer fixtures kick off with a match against Rosenborg in Norway on July 15.

Jadon Sancho appears hesitant to quit Man Utd – Reports

Jadon Sancho is reportedly hesitant to give up on Man Utd and is open to returning from Borussia Dortmund under one condition.

During his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, Sancho has impressed, prompting interest from the German club in securing him permanently.

However, financial hurdles, particularly Manchester United’s steep asking price of over £50 million ($64m), pose a challenge for Dortmund.

According to The Mirror, Sancho is willing to consider a return to United but only if Erik ten Hag leaves Old Trafford.

Sancho’s relationship with the manager soured after Ten Hag’s “scapegoat” comments on social media, leading to Sancho’s exclusion from the senior team.

Despite speculation surrounding Ten Hag’s future, the club has yet to make a decision, leaving room for potential replacements such as Thomas Tuchel, Thomas Frank, and Mauricio Pochettino.

Alternatively, Sancho could remain at Dortmund if another loan deal is arranged between the two clubs.

The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the club’s direction, with managerial decisions significantly influencing Sancho’s next move.

  • Jadon Sancho still pained over Euro final in 2021

Jadon Sancho still pained over Euro final in 2021

Borussia Dortmund’s loan sensation Jadon Sancho has opened up about a lingering regret as he gears up for the Champions League final.

Sancho’s 2023/24 campaign has been dramatic, beginning with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag sidelining him after a highly publicized dispute.

His fortunes changed when Dortmund secured his return to the Bundesliga on loan in January, sparking a resurgence in his form. Despite his current success, Sancho remains haunted by the memory of England’s Euro 2021 final defeat to Italy.

On the hurt of losing the Euro final in 2021, Sancho said to The Mirror: “It was hard. The backlash wasn’t nice. Being in London, not in a million years would I have thought we would receive that. It’s a memory I try to block but I just have to be positive.

“Its football for you. People say things in the moment I am sure they don’t mean. But they have to realise that when they say those things it does impact us. After that it was the summer break and that summer was hard. Just reflecting: ‘Why did it have to be me?’

“It felt as though we’d let our country down. I know we didn’t but that’s how it felt in the moment. Of course I saw the love. And we do appreciate it – speaking on behalf of Bukayo and Marcus. But it is still something in my head sometimes. I don’t think I have fully recovered yet but I’m trying my best.

“If you think about it, after that, the only other penalty I took was against Brighton at Wembley (for Manchester United) and I did score.

Its one of those moments when you believe in yourself. I’ve been taking penalties for a long time and I just practice and practice to get more confidence.

“I’ve never really doubted myself to take a penalty so I’d definitely be ready to take a penalty if it came up. It’s going to be a great day and a great occasion for my family.”

Sancho also reflected on the current season and the journey he’s been on, becoming a crucial player for Edin Terzic. His contributions have helped Die Schwarzgelben reach the Champions League final for the first time since 2011.

“I don’t think anyone would have expected this. Me being in a Champions League Final. I’m so happy. I’m blessed.
“Game by game I’ve just been working on myself, trying to be a better player. Doing extras behind closed doors.

Everything I do is for the team and I’m thankful to them – and the staff – for welcoming me back.
“I can’t thank my mum and dad enough. Also my siblings. I know what my mum will say.

She’ll be like: ‘Win or lose, I still love you son!’ My dad will probably be messaging my phone now saying: ‘Are you training??’ But regardless, my whole family will be proud of me.”

Borussia Dortmund make move for Man Utd Mason Greenwood

Borussia Dortmund have become the latest club linked with Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, following the conclusion of his loan spell at Getafe.

According to ESPN, Dortmund is considering a summer move for Greenwood but will finalize their decision after the Champions League final against Real Madrid at Wembley on Saturday.

Greenwood had a productive season on loan at Getafe, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

This was his first season back in action after charges of assault, attempted rape, and coercive and controlling behavior were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew and new evidence emerged.

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus have also shown interest in Greenwood in recent months. While Getafe has expressed a strong desire to retain the English forward, they lack the financial resources to do so.

“I don’t want to talk about that now,” Dortmund sporting director told reporters when pressed on the Greenwood speculation ahead of the upcoming Champions League final.

“Of course we do have our plans for the next season and of course we discuss many scenarios, but nothing for today. Let’s focus, let’s anticipate that match on Saturday and then we’ll see how we move on.”

Mason Greenwood isn’t anticipated to be reintegrated into the Manchester United squad, despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe hinting at a possible return.

However, the club may activate the 12-month extension option in his contract to prevent him from leaving as a free agent in 2025 if they can only arrange a loan deal this summer instead of a permanent transfer.

Previous reports have indicated that Manchester United is seeking up to £50 million ($64 million) for the 22-year-old forward.

Real Madrid surpasses Man Utd as the world’s most valuable football club

Real Madrid claimed the top spot as the world’s most valuable football club in Forbes’ annual list released on Thursday.

They edged past Manchester United, Barcelona, Liverpool, and Manchester City in the rankings.

According to the business magazine, Madrid’s value stands at $6.6 billion, narrowly surpassing United’s $6.55 billion.

Despite facing financial challenges, Barcelona secured the third position with a value of $5.6 billion, exceeding Liverpool’s $5.37 billion.

This marks Madrid’s third consecutive year at the top and their eighth time leading the list in 11 years.

Forbes evaluates clubs based on their “enterprise value,” considering factors such as market value, debt, and liquid assets, with data sourced from Deloitte.

Madrid’s record-breaking revenue of $873 million in 2022-23, the highest among all clubs, was highlighted by Forbes.

This revenue was attributed to broadcasting, commercial deals, and matchday income.

The Forbes list features 30 teams, with 12 Premier League clubs making the cut.

Tottenham, Chelsea, and Arsenal also secured spots in the top 10. Atlético Madrid, representing LaLiga, ranked 13th with a value of $1.3 billion.

Real Madrid’s financial success has been fueled by their recent achievements in the Champions League, having won the tournament five times since 2014.

They are set to face Borussia Dortmund in this year’s final on June 1.

Despite challenges in broadcast rights markets for the Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1, Forbes noted that the average value of teams on the list has increased by 5.1% compared to the previous year, reaching $2.3 billion.

  • Pep says he ‘completely agrees’ with Erik ten Hag in his ‘struggles’; he tells why

Pep says he ‘completely agrees’ with Erik ten Hag in his ‘struggles’; he tells why

Pep Guardiola expressed considerable sympathy for Erik ten Hag following Manchester United’s worst Premier League season to date.

Heading into the FA Cup final, City are heavy favorites, having secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title.

In stark contrast, United recorded their lowest league finish since 1990 and ended the season with a negative goal difference.

The disastrous campaign is likely to cost Ten Hag his job. However, Guardiola acknowledged that United’s struggles were exacerbated by relentless injury problems, and he felt for their challenging situation.

“He has done many good things, I have huge respect for his job in the past and now at United I completely agree when I listen to him when he says they have not had a full squad this season and had a lot of injuries,” Guardiola told a press conference.

“I think this is the most important thing they have to think about because I am always focused that we have to be fit, fit, fit – otherwise we cannot use the players.

They had a lot of problems and when that happens the manager suffers a lot. The squad is really good but the problem is when you cannot use them. This is a big disadvantage.”

Guardiola said that United can never be counted out despite their problems and singled out Bruno Fernandes as their most influential player.

“The brilliant players they have up front, Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund. The influence of Bruno on that team is outstanding. His creativity is one of the best I have ever seen.”

Ten Hag has faced over 60 injuries this season, resulting in players being unavailable for more than 350 games combined. For the final, United will be without Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire.

In contrast, City have no injury concerns apart from Ederson, who wouldn’t have played regardless since Stefan Ortega is the first-choice goalkeeper for cup competitions.

City can make more history by becoming the first English side to win back-to-back doubles of the league title and FA Cup. Guardiola added:

“The history gives us a chance to do what hasn’t been done before, why not try it? Maybe it is an extra motivation for the players, I don’t speak about it but like I said to them, just to play to win.

No team had won four [titles] in a row, when they have not done back to back FA Cups it is because it is not easy. At the same time, what’s next? That is the mentality the big teams have to show, go for it with all they have.”

  • Onana says he is ‘not here to back’ Ten Hag; he can speak for himself

Onana says he is ‘not here to back’ Ten Hag; he can speak for himself

Andre Onana has strongly backed underfire manager Erik ten Hag ahead of the FA Cup final clash with Manchester City.

Reports suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have already decided to part ways with Ten Hag, regardless of the FA Cup outcome.

The Red Devils endured their worst finish in the Premier League era, leading to the decision to dismiss the Dutch coach.

“He’s a good guy, a good coach,” Onana told reporters ahead of the title decider.
“Tactically he’s very good, and he showed it last season. I was not here last season and they got top four.

This season a lot of things happened. I’m not here to back him. He is big enough to back himself, but he is a really good guy, he is a positive coach and tactically he’s good.”

Ten Hag have frequently alluded to several injuries to key players throughout the season as a stumbling block to stringing together a consistent run of performances.

Onana believes that his argument has enough merit and added: “If [Ten Hag] had all his squad, it would probably be different.

This season is difficult for him, for us, for the club, for the fans because it is frustrating for the fans when they are coming away and how we are losing, it is difficult.”

Onana hopes to cap the season by lifting the FA Cup trophy on Saturday at Wembley, preventing Manchester City from becoming the first English team to win consecutive domestic doubles after their Premier League triumph.

A victory would serve as a fitting send-off for Ten Hag, partially restoring his reputation before his departure.

Onana ‘pained’ for losing ‘best goalkeeper in the world’ tag; tells plan to get it back

Andre Onana has responded to losing his “best goalkeeper in the world” status, explaining how he plans to reclaim it.

The Manchester United star, who joined Old Trafford in the summer of 2023, arrived with a stellar reputation after helping Inter reach the Champions League final.

Known for his exceptional skills with both feet and hands, the 28-year-old was seen as one of the most complete goalkeepers in the game.

However, Onana faced a rocky start in English football, leading to scrutiny over his £48 million ($61m) transfer fee and his future with the club.

Despite the early struggles and criticism, he has managed to regain his form and is determined to return to the top of his game.

Onana has told BBC Sport of that quest, as he looks to prove himself deserving of a standing among the global elite: “I arrived as the best goalkeeper in the world and ‘boom’ it went down.

It was like ‘what happened?’ But that is how difficult football is sometimes. It depends if you want to stay down there or stand up and fight. I know what I did to arrive here. I know who I am. I decided to stand up and fight.”

United have been keeping Onana busy, facing a barrage of shots from Premier League rivals in a string of fixtures between March and April.

On average, they have faced at least 20 shots per game during this period.

Their last line of defence added on that workload: “I don’t mind facing 20 or 30 shots. I am very happy with what my team-mates are doing because a lot of them make sacrifices for the team.

It would be nice to have everyone back but what can we do? Hide? We are a big club. We have to go on the front foot and deal with difficulties. I am positive. I know things will get better. If not today, tomorrow.”

The Red Devils have a chance to salvage their disappointing 2023-24 season as they prepare for another FA Cup final appearance.

Erik ten Hag, whose future at the club is under scrutiny, is making plans for a showdown at Wembley against their arch-rivals Manchester City on Saturday.

Pochettino reportedly to replace Southgate as England manager

Mauricio Pochettino finds himself with a plethora of options for his next move after departing Chelsea at the conclusion of the season.

The Argentine manager has already begun contemplating his next steps following his departure from Stamford Bridge by mutual consent after just one season.

Pochettino has expressed interest in potentially taking over the England national team from Gareth Southgate, should the current Three Lions boss step down after Euro 2024.

Additionally, he is reportedly eyeing the managerial position at Manchester United, as per The Telegraph. Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad is also said to be interested in securing Pochettino’s services.

Pochettino has openly stated that he would welcome the opportunity to manage England, with the possibility of the role becoming available this summer. Southgate has hinted at retirement after Euro 2024 if England emerges victorious in the tournament.

However, Pochettino may receive alternative offers before such a scenario unfolds. Manchester United is expected to part ways with Erik ten Hag this summer, regardless of the outcome of the FA Cup final, and Pochettino is reportedly on their radar.

Under Pochettino’s guidance, Chelsea witnessed impressive attacking prowess from their young players in the Premier League this season, scoring a total of 51 goals from players under the age of 23.

This achievement marks a record in the competition’s history for the highest number of goals scored by a team in a single campaign by players of this age group.

Exiting Chelsea on a high note, Pochettino’s team concluded a challenging season with a winning streak that secured sixth place in the Premier League and European football for the upcoming season.

Joining the ranks of high-profile club managers departing their positions, including Thomas Tuchel, Massimiliano Allegri, Roberto De Zerbi, and Jurgen Klopp, Pochettino leaves Chelsea amidst a period of managerial transition.

As Chelsea embarks on the search for a new coach, they join the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus, Brighton, and potentially Manchester United in seeking new leadership.

  • Maguire tells ‘recovery’ story of how he got his Man Utd career back on track

Maguire tells ‘recovery’ story of how he got his Man Utd career back on track

Harry Maguire credits his ability to handle the intense scrutiny of playing for Manchester United for helping him overcome harsh criticism.

The defender made the switch from Leicester City to United in 2019 for a staggering £80 million ($102m), but his performances arguably did not justify the hefty price tag.

Throughout much of 2021 and 2022, Maguire struggled to find form, resulting in severe criticism directed at him. At one point, it appeared that he was on the brink of joining West Ham in 2023.

However, the 6’4″ centre-back remained determined to prove himself under Erik ten Hag’s management. This season, Maguire has shown signs of improvement in his performances, a turnaround he attributes in part to his resilient mindset.

He told talkSPORT: “First and foremost, it’s a huge honour and a massive privilege to play for a club with so much history. It’s a huge club and I love playing for it. It means so much to me and there’s so many ups and downs, the scrutiny is there, everybody knows that.

The pressure is there because we’re the most spoken-about club in the world – for sure in this country. That’s just the way it is and you have to get used to it.

You’ve got to be able to deal with it. As an individual, you can’t look too much into it, you just have to look after yourself during the week and prepare as well as you can. Then you approach the matchday with confidence. The preparation gives you the confidence to deal with the pressure of playing for such a huge, iconic club.”

Despite Harry Maguire’s improved performances, Manchester United has endured a disappointing season overall. The team finished eighth in the Premier League, failed to retain their Carabao Cup title, and ended up at the bottom of their Champions League group.

Manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly under pressure to keep his job. If Manchester United fails to secure victory in the FA Cup final this weekend, this season will be regarded as a catastrophe.

Maguire, who has been included in Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man England squad for Euro 2024, is set to feature for United in their FA Cup final showdown against bitter rivals Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday.

Decision made! Erik ten Hag set to be sacked -Reports

Man Utd has reportedly made the decision to dismiss Erik ten Hag, regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s FA Cup final.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio via SoccerNews.nl, Ten Hag will lead Manchester United for the final time at Wembley on Saturday before departing the club this summer.

Even if Ten Hag guides the team to victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final, the Red Devils are already seeking a new manager.

The uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag’s future arises after a challenging season for Manchester United.

The team finished in eighth place in the Premier League standings with a negative goal difference.

Their only chance of European football next season rests on winning the FA Cup final against City.

Manchester United has been linked with potential replacements for Ten Hag.

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna and England manager Gareth Southgate are among the names mentioned.

Additionally, former Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel and recently unemployed Mauricio Pochettino are reportedly considered candidates for the managerial position at Old Trafford.

Di Marzio said: “McKenna is the man of the moment in the football world, in the world of coaches, because he is doing great at Ipswich Town.

He is the number one choice at Brighton & Hove Albion, but he has also already spoken to Manchester United.

At the end of the season, United will say goodbye to Ten Hag.

“Manchester United will also be looking for a new coach. And their targets are McKenna and Mauricio Pochettino.

De Zerbi is also on the list, but he has not been in contact with United in recent days. If he [McKenna] goes to Chelsea, United will go for Pochettino.

But what is certain: they are saying goodbye to Ten Hag.”

Manchester United are not the only club looking for a new coach this summer. Bayern Munich, Juventus, Brighton and Chelsea are also on the hunt for a first-team coach, while Barcelona are being tipped to part ways with Xavi and could also join the list.

Everyone must be gone except Fernandes – Wayne Rooney

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has said a “massive clearout” is needed at Old Trafford in the summer and added that he believes the team should be built around captain Bruno Fernandes.

United are eighth in the Premier League going into the final day of the season on Sunday and are at risk of missing out on European football altogether for next year.

Fernandes has been a standout performer this season and is United’s top scorer in the league with 10 goals and has registered more assists (7) than any other player at the club.

“You have to build around Bruno. He’s the one player with quality. He has got fight in him. I think you keep the young players and Bruno. I think it has to be a massive clearout, it has to be. It’s not going to be in one year but it’s got to be over the next couple of years,” Rooney said on Sky Sports on Wednesday.

“To compete in this league, they need better players and don’t get me wrong, these players are good players and Premier League players. But to compete with Manchester City, with Liverpool, with Arsenal they need better players.”

On Marcus Rashford, Rooney said: “We all know Marcus has got the capabilities to play at the top level. I just wonder if, for Marcus himself, is it time to go play elsewhere? I don’t know.

“I think he has to ask himself that question. I want him to stay, to break records at this club. But he needs to get his head right, get his head down and get back to the player we know he can be.”

“It wasn’t an easy season, but one thing remained constant, and it was the backing of you for the team,” Ten Hag said.

“The season is not over yet. Now, first we will travel to Brighton for three points and then we go to Wembley.

“And I promise you that those players will give everything, to get that cup, to win the cup, and bring it to Old Trafford.

“And be assured, you will be there supporting us. Thank you, you are the best supporters in the world, thank you.”

Man Utd consider ex coach as replacement for Erik ten Hag – Reports

Man Utd are reportedly eyeing Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag, amidst uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag’s tenure has been marred by a disappointing 2023/24 season, raising concerns about United’s Premier League finish.

Names like Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Frank have surfaced as potential successors to Ten Hag. Now, reports suggest that McKenna has emerged as a new candidate for the role.

Foot Mercato initially reported that United held discussions with McKenna’s agent, a claim subsequently confirmed by The Guardian.

However, United face competition as McKenna’s services attract interest from other Premier League clubs. Moreover, McKenna might opt to stay at Ipswich.

McKenna has a history with Manchester United, having served as a scout and Under-18s manager before becoming an assistant to Jose Mourinho.

He played a crucial role in the coaching setup under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, alongside Michael Carrick.

After departing United in December 2021, McKenna took over as Ipswich manager. Despite initial struggles in League One, he guided Ipswich to promotion in the 2022/23 season.

Expectations were modest for Ipswich in the Championship, but McKenna led them to an astonishing promotion, finishing as runners-up and securing 96 points, surpassing Leeds United on the final day of the season.

  • Arsenal advised to go for “fit, explosive” Sancho after impressive UCL display

Arsenal advised to go for “fit, explosive” Sancho after impressive UCL display

Former Arsenal defender Emmanuel Petit has urged his former club to consider signing Jadon Sancho this summer.

Sancho, who has struggled to find his place at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag, is currently excelling on loan in Germany.

Petit believes that Arsenal could greatly benefit from acquiring the English international, drawing parallels to how they revitalised Kai Havertz’s career after a challenging period at Chelsea.

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Petit said: “I was saying how impressed I was with Jadon Sancho in the Champions League on commentary—he looks like a new player, so fit, thin and explosive.

He’s like dynamite on the pitch so explosive on the ball with [Karim] Adeyemi on the left flank—so hard to catch.

He’s back to his best and Manchester United look so far away from them, so if Arsenal want him, why not? You can put the best player in the world at Manchester United at the moment and they’d look average in two months.”

Since returning to Dortmund on loan in January, Sancho has scored three goals and provided one assist across all competitions.

He still has the opportunity to cap off the season as a European champion, as Dortmund will face Real Madrid in the Champions League final next month.

Heading to Wembley for the final presents the perfect stage for Sancho to demonstrate his ability to perform at the highest level.

Securing the coveted trophy would undoubtedly enhance his value and generate considerable interest ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

  • Man Utd cancel end of season awards event again following disappointing season

Man Utd cancel end of season awards event again following disappointing season

Man Utd has decided to cancel their annual end-of-season awards ceremony amidst the conclusion of a deeply disappointing campaign.

This decision mirrors last season’s cancellation, which occurred during a rough patch under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Originally slated for May 20, the celebration has been removed from the calendar altogether. Despite this cancellation, players will still receive their annual awards, including the prestigious Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year prize.

However, these accolades will be distributed without a formal event.

The rationale behind this decision, according to The Athletic, is to avoid any additional distractions leading up to the FA Cup final against Manchester City, scheduled just five days after the initial event plan on May 25.

While the senior team, under Erik ten Hag’s management, has struggled this season, with a recent 1-0 defeat to Arsenal leaving them in eighth place in the Premier League, other branches of the club have seen success.

United’s women’s team clinched their first major trophy by winning the FA Cup, while the Under-18 side dominated the U18 Premier League North and advanced to the National Premier League Final.

Traditionally, these achievements would be celebrated at the annual awards ceremony, but they will now be acknowledged through internal events.

The women’s academy sides have already conducted their own ceremonies to honour their accomplishments at both the Under-21 and Under-18 levels.

Marc Skinner dedicates Women’s FA Cup win to the Man Utd fans

Man Utd manager Marc Skinner expressed his satisfaction in achieving his initial objectives with the club upon winning the Women’s FA Cup, fulfilling a promise to the fans.

United’s triumph marked a significant milestone as they secured their first major trophy at Wembley, overpowering Tottenham Hotspur with four goals in a remarkable 20-minute spree around half-time.

Since establishing the women’s first-team in 2018, United has been striving for success, buoyed by the unwavering support of their loyal fanbase.

This support was evident with nearly 5,000 fans attending the inaugural home game six years ago, and Wembley was awash in red as a sold-out allocation of 12,000 fans, including many who had been there since the club’s inception, filled the stands.

The presence of United shirts among neutral supporters underscored the club’s widespread appeal.

Ahead of the final, a bustling scene at Warwick Services on the M40 highlighted the fervent anticipation, with fans travelling from all corners to witness the historic moment.

Coachloads departed from Old Trafford at dawn, while many supporters opted to travel a day in advance to ensure they were part of the unforgettable occasion in London.

“I always said when I came here I wanted to deliver trophies for the best fanbase in the world,” Skinner told reporters as he left Wembley on Sunday evening.

“The ones that came out in force and the ones that couldn’t [bet at Wembley]—we dedicate that to you for everything that you give us. We want it to be the start, not the end, so we’ve got to kick on. But I want every Manchester United fan to celebrate and be proud of their contribution.”

For Skinner, who has come under fire from some fans this season, it was also the end of seven years of personal hurt.

He was previously a losing manager at Wembley in 2017, when his Birmingham City side were thrashed by Manchester City. He was then unable to set that right when Chelsea narrowly prevailed over United in last season’s final.

“It’s nice to feel and be in the moment with it,” the United boss explained. “The players have been incredible, and the staff have been incredible. We’re not where we want to be in the league; we have to caveat that.

We want to be higher up, of course. But to add a historic moment to our fantastic club feels great and we should spend a moment appreciating it.”

Skinner admitted that he found it so “lonely” in the technical area towards the end of his first Wembley experience that he had to have an assistant coach stand with him.

He also explained that Carl Green, one of his United backroom team, told him after the final whistle this time: “Take a moment, because in seven years you’ve come a long way.”

Whether the 41-year-old, who succeeded Casey Stoney in 2021, will be United manager next season remains unconfirmed. His contract is due to expire next month and it has been reported that the club has put forward an offer of a new 12-month deal.

“I don’t care about who tells me I can’t do something,” he said. “If anything, that’s my fuel. I want to lead this team into a successful era. Who knows, maybe that will happen. But for now, here, I’ve delivered what I said I would do to the fans, which is a trophy.”

Man Utd seeking €60 million for the transfer of Greenwood

Atletico Madrid is currently leading the pack in the pursuit of Man Utd forward Mason Greenwood for a potential summer transfer.

Exclusive sources from TEAMtalk reveal that this move could see Greenwood joining forces with a notable Old Trafford disappointment.

Greenwood has been making waves in Spain during his loan spell at Getafe this season, catching the eye of Atletico scouts with his impressive performances.

The talented forward has notched up 10 goals and six assists in 33 appearances across all competitions during his time at Getafe.

Manchester United is reportedly willing to offload Greenwood for the right price this summer to bolster their transfer budget, with hopes of securing top-tier signings.

Given that Greenwood is a homegrown talent developed through United’s ranks, his sale would represent a significant profit for the club.

While Getafe is keen on securing Greenwood for another season, they are unable to afford his permanent acquisition, with United valuing him at around £40 million.

Although reports from Spain suggest United is holding out for as much as €60 million (£52 million) for Greenwood, sources close to TEAMtalk reveal that he is available for a more reasonable fee of £40 million, which has piqued Atletico’s interest.

While clubs in Italy and Germany, including Serie A giants Juventus, have shown interest in Greenwood, Atletico is reportedly confident of securing his signature.

Should Greenwood make the move to Wanda Metropolitano, he would find himself playing alongside former Manchester United flop Memphis Depay next season.

Man Utd officials admit Old Trafford failed to handle the heavy rainfall during Arsenal clash

Man Utd officials have acknowledged that Old Trafford faced challenges in handling what has been described as unprecedented rainfall following the team’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

Sources informed ESPN that this incident reinforces the importance of new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s desire to upgrade the stadium.

According to United, 41mm of rain fell within two hours after the final whistle. Videos circulated on social media showing a significant waterfall caused by a leak in the roof between the East Stand and the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand.

Additionally, images depicted water flowing underneath seats, running down the windows of executive boxes, and forming large puddles on the pitch.

Despite these issues, all supporters who attended the match were able to exit the stadium safely. However, there is a recognition that these challenges underscore the necessity for United to invest in stadium improvements.

Ratcliffe attended the game on Sunday to witness the issues firsthand. The 71-year-old British billionaire, who acquired a 27.7% stake in the club in February, has expressed a preference for constructing a new stadium near Old Trafford.

However, discussions have also explored the possibility of redeveloping the current facility.

In March, United announced the formation of a taskforce to lead the project.

The group is headed by Lord Sebastian Coe, former chair of the organising committee for the 2012 London Olympics, and includes Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, Sara Todd, Chief Executive of Trafford Council, and former United captain Gary Neville.

Prior to the Arsenal match, Ratcliffe held discussions with Burnham, Coe, and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.

  • We can’t win with a team with so many injuries – Ten Hag after 0-1 loss to Arsenal

We can’t win with a team with so many injuries – Ten Hag after 0-1 loss to Arsenal

Following Arsenal’s 1-0 victory at Old Trafford, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag likened managing the club to “swimming with your hands behind your back.”

The defeat marked United’s record ninth home loss of the season and left them with slim chances of securing European qualification.

Leandro Trossard’s first-half goal propelled Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table ahead of the final week of the season.

Meanwhile, Manchester United, who have only won one of their last nine games across all competitions (against relegated Sheffield United), find themselves in a challenging position.

Ten Hag once again faced defensive challenges, with midfielder Casemiro filling in at centre-back due to an injury crisis. Notable absentees due to injury included Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, and Mason Mount.

Citing the team’s extensive injury problems, Ten Hag expressed the increasing difficulty of his job. As a former coach of Ajax, he finds himself navigating a challenging season at Manchester United.

“Any manager can always do something better, but I am two years here and I had only one time the full group of players, and you cannot progress a team with so many injuries,” Ten Hag said. “It is like swimming with your hands behind your back. You have to keep your head above water and we are trying to do that.

“It shouldn’t be like this, but I return to all the problems we have and you then analyse the performance. You have to see that we were competitive, but that is not what you want, of course; we have to win, we have to win every game.
“But at the moment, we are not at this position and definitely not this team with the injuries.”

Manchester United have two potential paths to securing qualification for the Europa League. The first is by defeating Manchester City in the upcoming FA Cup final later this month. Alternatively, they could secure a victory against sixth-place Newcastle at Old Trafford on Wednesday, preceding the final weekend.

However, there’s a risk of seventh-place Chelsea overtaking United for the Europa League spot, depending on the results.

Manager Erik ten Hag emphasised the importance of securing European qualification, highlighting the potential consequences of missing out.

It would be a significant blow for United to miss out on European competition altogether, especially considering their consistent participation over the past decade.

“It is very damaging,” he said. “That is the situation we are in, but still we can get there. We have the opportunities to take them and fight, even when the problems are massive, everyone knows this.

“We have to deserve it, especially the fans; they follow us on Monday [at Crystal Palace], and they understand the position we are in. Today they are behind us from the first whistle, they see the team needs backing and support, so we are united and that is very good.”

A boost for Man Utd Martinez, Rashford return to training ahead of Arsenal clash

Manchester United have received a significant injury boost as both Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez return to training ahead of their clash with Arsenal.

The Red Devils are set to host Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday, and the potential return of Rashford and Martinez provides a welcome boost for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Martinez, who was a standout performer for United last season, has struggled with injuries this term, including foot, knee, and calf issues.

Meanwhile, Rashford has been sidelined with a knock since the FA Cup victory over Coventry City last month. Their return comes at a crucial time for United, who have faced numerous injury setbacks throughout the 2023–24 campaign.

United’s defensive line has been particularly affected by injuries, with more than a dozen different combinations used this season. Martinez, along with other key defenders such as Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Raphael Varane, and Jonny Evans, have all spent time on the sidelines.

Despite their injury woes, Ten Hag’s side will be hoping to bounce back from their recent 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace when they face Arsenal on Sunday.

This will be followed by a clash against Newcastle United, as United look to secure their spot in Europe for next season.

  • Tuchel finally responds to alleged move to Man Utd

Tuchel finally responds to alleged move to Man Utd

Thomas Tuchel has expressed that it is “very unlikely” he will be at Bayern Munich next season, citing his admiration for the Premier League amid speculation linking him to the Manchester United managerial role.

Bayern confirmed Tuchel’s departure in February following a period of poor form, with Bayer Leverkusen leading the Bundesliga.

Although there have been reports suggesting Tuchel could remain at Bayern due to an improved performance, the club has faced challenges in securing a replacement after unsuccessful pursuits of Julian Nagelsmann and Xabi Alonso.

But asked where he will be next season, Tuchel told TNT Sports: “It’s very, very, very unlikely that it’s at Bayern, I have to say, because we have an agreement, there is at the moment no reason to doubt this agreement.

“We took this position, the initiative came from the club, and so it is and I’m fine with it.

“I don’t need it for the extra percentage of competitiveness because I’m always up for a win, I’m always thinking how to improve the squad or how to improve myself in coaching.

“We go all in. Does it have an influence on where I am next season? Maybe not, maybe I’m on holiday no matter what, let’s see, let’s see.”

Tuchel has been strongly linked with a comeback to the Premier League, particularly with the uncertainty surrounding Erik ten Hag’s position at Manchester United. The German, who guided Chelsea to a Champions League victory in 2021, is eager to work in England once more.

“It is no secret that I loved it at Chelsea, I loved it in England and I loved it in the Premier League for sure, it was a very, very special time and I remember it very well,” he added.

  • Greenwood wouldn’t return to Man Utd but we wish he will stay with us – Getafe coach

Greenwood wouldn’t return to Man Utd but we wish he will stay with us – Getafe coach

Getafe president Angel Torres has stated that Mason Greenwood will not be returning to Manchester United next season, indicating his anticipation for the forward to continue his tenure at the Spanish club.

Greenwood, aged 22, moved to Getafe on a season-long loan from United in September amid a criminal investigation into a potential attempted rape case that was later closed by prosecutors.

His last appearance for United was in January 2022, following allegations of controlling and coercive behaviour and assault concerning a woman, which surfaced after images and videos were circulated online.

“If it was up to the lad, his parents and the club [Getafe], I think he would continue for another year,” Torres told Radio Marca. “But regarding Manchester [United], the news that we have from last week, where the [Getafe] sporting director went to England to see some games and was with them, is that if a good offer comes along, they would want to sell because he is not going to go back there [to Manchester].

“We’ll have to wait until the end of June. The family and the player are very comfortable and very happy here, with our fans. When he came here, he hadn’t played for 16 months. He has recovered his form, he has scored eight league goals and two in the Copa.

The people and the coach are very happy with him. I think he will remain with us for another season, or at least until January. He is a good footballer.”

Last month, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new co-owner of United, stated that no definitive decision had been reached regarding Greenwood’s future.

However, sources close to the club informed ESPN that a permanent departure in the summer remains the most probable outcome.

Greenwood has notably tallied 10 goals and provided six assists in 32 appearances across all competitions for his current Spanish club.

According to ESPN’s report last month, the situation regarding Greenwood’s future at Old Trafford remains unresolved. While both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have shown interest in acquiring Greenwood, Barcelona’s interest has reportedly diminished.

Sources from ESPN revealed that Greenwood and his family have adapted well to life in Spain, dispelling initial concerns of any potential hostility.

Barcelona interested in Greenwood; Man Utd open for sale talks – Reports

Man Utd is reportedly open to selling Mason Greenwood if they receive a suitable offer, according to Getafe’s president, who also revealed Barcelona’s interest in the player.

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan in September 2023 and has performed well in La Liga, scoring eight goals and providing six assists.

With no apparent route back to Old Trafford for the 22-year-old, a decision on his future needs to be made. Several clubs, including Juventus, have been linked with a move for Greenwood.

Getafe have made no secret of the fact that they would like to keep Greenwood, if United were to trigger an extension in his contract through to 2026, but club president Angel Torres has told Radio Marca of where the Red Devils stand at present:

“If it depends on the parents and the club, I think he will continue another year. Manchester’s idea is to sell if there is a good offer, we will have to wait. I think he will stay.”

Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are said to be keen on keeping Greenwood in Spain if a permanent deal is done, with Torres adding on his conversations with rivals in the capital and over in Catalunya: “No one from Atleti has asked me about Greenwood. I spoke with Miguel Angel (Gil), but about other things.

The only one who asked me in that sense about the player was Joan Laporta, but first you have to sell to sign—that is the problem of Spanish football.”

Getafe has four remaining games this season, and Greenwood is expected to play a key role in them. Meanwhile, Manchester United is already planning for the summer, with a potential managerial change and significant transfer activity on the horizon.
