  • Wife and boyfriend hatched three plots to kill husband

It has emerged that the wedded wife who plotted with her boyfriend to kill her husband, had hatched three plans to execute their ploy.

Mavis Brepor, 32, and Patrick Asare, 50, were arrested last Saturday after contracting ‘an assassin’ to kill David Gator, 52, to whom she had been married for 13 years with three children.

Their plan, however, could not materialise because Asare, while recruiting the would be assassin, mistakenly called the Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, ACP Kwaku Buah for the role.

Giving details of the arrest at a press briefing on Wednesday, ACP Duah, said when he realised that the call was a mistake, he feigned interest in the deal for which Asare offered GH₵100,000 to finish the job.

“In intelligence, that information was like a pot of gold to us and it was important we manage it well and that is what we did,” he said Thursday in a later interview on Accra-based radio station, Citi FM.

He said the assassination was to be carried out on Saturday, May 2.

According to ACP Duah, the suspects had been in a relationship for about six months and had done a blood covenant.

He said the two “had vowed to live together forever and the best way for them to live forever was to eliminate the husband.”

He said there were three plans but the first plan, which was to poison the man with powdered bottles could not be executed because Gator often ate together with his children wife.

“Plan B was to get someone to kill him. If we had not swiftly moved in on the day of planned killing, this man [Asare] would have gone to Nima to get some thugs to come and kill him. That was the plan C,” ACP Duah said.

He said after the arrest of Asare, “We went to the house of Mr Gator and the man was eating with the wife but unknown to him, the wife and the boyfriend had planned to kill him.”

He said when he broke the news to him, Gator broke down in tears and enquired from his wife what wrong he had done to warrant such an act from her.

ACP Duah attributed the arrest of Asare and Mavis to the handiwork of God, saying, “He would have been dead by now if God had not been on his side and if the call had gone to the wrong person.”

  • Woman, lover arrested for plotting to kill husband

The Manhyia Divisional Police Command in the Ashanti Region has arrested a wedded wife and her boyfriend for conniving to kill her husband at Pamen near Kwabeng in the Eastern region.

The two were arrested after they mistook the would-be contract killer’s cell phone number for Manhyia Divisional Police Commander’s.

The 27-year-old suspect, Mavis Brepor popularly called Maadwoa, married to David Gator, 52, with three children, planned with her 50-year-old boyfriend, Patrick Asare, to kill her husband so that they could settle down.

ACP Kwaku Buah, the Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, told Class News’ regional correspondent, Elisha Adarkwah, that Patrick Asare while dialling the cell phone number of the would-be contract killer mistakenly mixed up some of the digits and called him.

He said during a conversation with him, it came to light that Patrick Asare, popularly called Coach, was ready to pay an amount of GHS100,000 to execute the killing.

The Police Commander feigned interest in the contract and used undercover investigators and detectives to talk to the suspect.

Mr Buah said it took the Police about three to four weeks to lure the suspect to come to Kumasi after they made him believe throughout the cell phone conversations that they were contract killers from Sefwi.

He said they told him [suspecct] to come to Kumasi so that they could follow him to the town to execute the killing since they did not know the town.

The suspect, he said admitted in his caution statement after his arrest that he conspired with Gator’s wife to kill him so that they could freely go on with their relationship.

The suspect led the Police to Pamen where Mavis was also arrested.

The suspects are currently in Police custody and being processed for court.

Mavis told Elisha Adarkwah that the boyfriend, Patrick Asare, used “juju” on her, confusing her to conspire with him.

    She pleaded for forgiveness.

The former President His Excellency Flt Lt JJ Rawlings has issued a statement in support of the display of anger and protest of citizens in the right direction devoid of destruction of property to unravel the mystery and also placed a bounty of ¢25,000 which we heard might be increased for anyone who gives a lead for the apprehension of the Criminals.

    14. Through our civil action, a total bounty of ¢60,000 awaits anyone or group of persons who volunteer information leading to the successful arrest of these culprits.

From the above and other numerous attempts from all concerned, we believe that our call is being heeded to and there is positive action on the ground to apprehend the criminals.

The fact is that we have never doubted the ability of the police but we are unhappy about the response time to distress calls in order to avert the occurrences.

Based on the several appeals from well-meaning Ghanaians we are by this statement calling on all who are so pained by the death of our colleague, brother, business associate and Assembly Member to remain calm as we monitor the situation and give more space to the police to finish up with their investigation.

We can only be appeased when the perpetrators of this heinous and barbaric act are found and brought to book.

  • 3 arrested in connection with murder of Sogakope Assemblymember

Reports from the Volta Region indicate that the police has arrested some three persons in connection with the murder of the Sogakope Assemblymember.

The individuals between age 18 and 27 were picked up earlier today but have been sent to the Volta Regional capital, Ho where they are being interrogated.

Reports further suggest that it is believed the three are part of a gang of robbers who have been terrorising the community.

The Volta Region Parliamentary Caucus today visited the family of the late Assemblymember, Marcus Mawutor Azahli.

They, however, expressed disappointment with the Police’s handling of the murder scene.

The caucus led by Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa visited the home of the late Assemblymember but says the police might not get enough evidence due to their poor handling of the murder scene.

He also announced that the caucus has placed a 15,000 Ghana Cedis bounty on the perpetrators of the act.

“The caucus went to the Divisional Police Commander and we presented 15k to support the ransom already placed on the killers”.

The late Assemblymember, Marcus Mawutor Azahli, a mobile money merchant in Sogakope, was shot and stabbed to death at his residence, while some unknown amount of money contained in a safe was stolen.

His wife sustained an injury from a knock on her head with a gun barrel and was stabbed on the shoulder, while their child was shot at.

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has also offered an amount of GH¢25,000 cedis to anyone that will provide relevant information which will lead to the arrest of the killers of the Assemblymember.

  • V/R: Sogakope police to be investigated following residents anger

The Volta Regional Police Command has refuted claims that its personnel failed to respond to distress call during the killing of the South Sogakope assemblyman, Marcus Mawutor Adzahli.

The command, however, says it will investigate claims by residents of Sogakope that police in the area have been negligent amid a purported increase in violent crimes.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, March, 2020, the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Edward Oduro Kwateng, said: “this assurance is non-negotiable and the results will soon manifest.”

“At the instance of various concerns raised by the teeming youth regarding the professional conduct of Police personnel stationed at Sogakope, the Command is interested in inquiring into these concerns to enable it, sanction officers who are found complicit.,” he explained.

Police response to attack on assemblyman

But in the case of the killing of the assemblyman, DCOP Kwateng defended the response of police personnel.

According to him, police officers detailed at the Sogakope barrier received calls on the attack at 12:50 am on March 1 and they rushed to the scene.

A police patrol team was later called to respond to the attack at 1:10 am but “was far from the scene.”

“It will be instructive to note that the Police did not delay in arriving at the house of deceased in order to save the situation and where delay was anticipated, an advance team at the Barrier abandoned their beat and went to the rescue, but unfortunately, the man was killed and robbed while the wife and child were wounded,” the police commander explained.

At the scene of the crime, the police discovered six used and one unused BB Cartridges believed to have been used by the assailants.

The Regional Criminal Investigation Department at Ho has since taken over the investigation into the killing and is being supported by the Anti-armed Robbery team from Police Headquarters in Accra.

    Call for calm

Following unrest in the community, the police command has urged the residents “to support the Police
in their efforts at unravelling the killing of the Assemblyman.”

“Again, we must all be reminded that acts of lawlessness and destruction of property to register our
displeasure in situations like this cannot remedy the situation,” DCOP Kwateng said.

Some residents stormed the district police station and were pelting stones at the police.

They had also blocked the Aflao-Accra road at the end of the Lower Volta bridge at Sogakope on successive days as part of their protest.

    Bounties announced

The District Chief Executive of the South Tongu assembly, Emmanuel Luis Agamah has put a GHS10,000 bounty on the heads of perpetrators killing of an Assemblyman for the Sogakope South Electoral Area, Marcus Mawutor Adzahli.

Former President Jerry John Rawlings also announced a GHS25,000 reward for information leading to a break in the case.

“We, first of all, has the wife and child of the deceased who had some injuries and they are fine, I think from yesterday we made it clear to the public that they are responding to treatment, as I speak now they have been discharged from the hospital.”

The Regional Security Council, REGSEC is also putting in place plans to increase police visibility in the area and screen occupants of hotels and rented apartments.

One of the youth leader, Maxwell Lukuto who sat in the REGSEC meeting disclosed the plans of the security council.

“They want to begin screening people especially at night the guest houses and compound houses where people have come to rent so they have complete data on people who are in the district.”

Former President Jerry John Rawlings is offering an amount of GH¢25,000 cedis to anyone that will provide relevant information which will lead to the arrest of the killers of the Assemblymember for Sogakope, Marcus Adzahli who was murdered last Sunday.

The amount is also directed to persons who will provide reliable information of those who committed another violent robbery in Vume, also in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region about a month ago.

However, the Volta Regional Minister, Mr Archibald Letsa and the assembly had earlier offered 10,000 cedis each intended for the same purpose.

A statement issued by the Office of the former President quotes him as expressing disgust at the trend of violent attacks in the South Tongu area, describing the killing of the Assemblymember as a politically related murder.

Flt Lt Rawlings urged the residents to exercise their right to anger and protest, but not to express their anger in the wrong direction or through the wrong action.

“We deeply regret this incident… which is shocking for us all,” the governor told a news conference.

“I want to reiterate that this sort of thing is not the norm in our schools.”

Mexico is more used to seeing school shootings in the neighboring United States than up close.

However, the incident was not without precedent. In 2014, a 15-year-old shot and killed a schoolmate in central Mexico State, and in 2017 a 15-year-old shot and wounded four classmates at a high school in the northern city of Monterrey.

    Video game? Columbine?

Riquelme said the boy had not shown behavioral problems, but had told classmates that “today was the today,” and talked to them about the first-person shooter video game “Natural Selection.”

In the bathroom, he changed into a T-shirt with “Natural Selection” written on it before carrying out the shooting, said state prosecutor Gerardo Marquez.

“Natural Selection” was also written on a T-shirt worn by one of the shooters at Columbine High School in 1999, when two students killed 13 schoolmates and then themselves.

The video game, whose first edition was released in 2002, has no direct link with the Columbine shooting.

As for a possible link with Columbine, he said: “We have to follow every possible line of investigation, and that is one of them.”
