Former National Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Hamidu Akamba has announced plans for rigorous monitoring of the 2024 general elections, including the use of secret cameras installed on trees to ensure accountability for any election-related chaos.
Akamba stated that despite the proposed deployment of drones for monitoring, the party will supplement these efforts with its monitoring measures, particularly with hidden cameras on trees.
In an interview with Kasapa FM, Akamba emphasized the importance of these cameras in capturing instances of security personnel mistreating citizens during elections and ensuring their subsequent accountability.
He referenced the violence during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections as justification for these measures, questioning the conclusiveness of the investigation into the incident.
With the NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama set to compete against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and others, the 2024 general election, scheduled for December 7, 2024, promises to be closely monitored.
“The military and other security personnel should advise themselves about the 2024 elections. We have heard about drones, but we will install secret cameras on trees to monitor the elections. So that if a security personnel shoots someone, he/she will be captured and arrested afterwards.”
“With what happened at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency elections, where they set up a commission, do you think that is a conclusive matter? The guys who were shot are still there.”
The National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo Esq., also known as Pablo, has condemned the government for failing to pay the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) what it owes them.
He believes the current erratic power supply is due to debt owed IPPs and not faulty distribution transformers.
“You’re shedding load because you’ve incompetently mismanaged the energy sector yet you wouldn’t take responsibility and fix things. Pay the IPP’s, it’s not faulty distribution transformers!”
The power sector is likely to experience an exacerbated debt of about $1.8 billion to the Independent Power Producers by 2024, the Chamber of Independent Power Generators has disclosed.
Mr Opare Addo made this statement in a post on X while reacting to a report indicating the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has started an exercise to check on various power transformers across the country to identify and fix faults that can help sustain power.
He blamed Ghanaians for failing to elect the right leaders, hence the mismanagement of the energy sector.
“I blame y’all for this nonsense. Y’all who queued and voted for Akuffo Addo and Bawumia twice are accomplices of this sheer disrespect to our intelligence.”
Meanwhile, ECG’s integrity checks on the transformers will help identify actual loads and others that need upgrades upon reaching their full capacity.
The Women’s Wing of the People’s National Convention (PNC) has vowed to secure victory in the upcoming 2024 general elections, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to bring about positive change.
Speaking to reporters in Koforidua on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, Janet Nabla, the General Secretary of PNC, emphasized the party’s potential as a transformative force in Ghanaian politics.
Nabla asserted that the PNC, positioned as a viable third option, is poised to address the nation’s pressing issues with its well-established policies.
She confidently proclaimed the party’s anticipated success in the upcoming elections, citing a growing desire among Ghanaians for a new political direction.
“We’re winning hands down. Ghanaians are seeking an alternative to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), realizing that the dominance of these two parties hasn’t sufficiently served their interests. They are yearning for change, and that change is embodied in the PNC. We are approaching this election with unwavering determination,” she declared.
Nabla highlighted the PNC’s historical contributions to Ghana’s social welfare, pointing to initiatives such as school feeding, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) that originated from the party’s advocacy in 1999. She emphasized the party’s commitment to enhancing these programs and implementing its policies effectively, promising to address existing challenges and bolster the nation’s development efforts.
Furthermore, the Women’s Wing of the PNC unveiled plans to nominate female candidates for 40 percent of the parliamentary seats across all 257 constituencies in the December 2024 general elections. This initiative, dubbed “Operation Get Women Parliamentarians,” aims to amplify women’s representation in decision-making processes and strengthen Ghana’s democratic landscape.
NDC Youth Organizer for Okaikwei North, Osman Mahmud, strongly denies allegations linking the party to the vandalization of billboards belonging to the governingNew Patriotic Party’s (NPP)parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei North, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei.
Mahmud clarified that the incident occurred following a prior act of vandalism against John Dramani Mahama’s billboard earlier in the year, carried out by unidentified individuals.
In response to this incident, the NDC issued a stern warning against such actions and reaffirmed their commitment to their campaign for the 2024 elections without assigning blame, he explained.
He expressed surprise at accusations made by the NPP’s parliamentary candidate and constituency organizer against the incumbent MP, Theresa Awuni, regarding the recent vandalism of their billboards.
Emphasizing the NDC’s dedication to peaceful campaigning, Mahmud cautioned the NPP against unfounded attacks to avoid escalating tensions into violence.
“We know our MP, Theresa Awuni, she has never been violent. John Mahama’s billboard was demolished and we issued a warning against it as we believe in peace. I don’t even know where this is coming from, it is not our habit. We are busy campaigning to want to destroy billboards.
“Akuapem North MP is struggling to introduce herself to Okaikoi North constituents by destroying her own billboards for sympathy. We sent a message against the demolishing of the billboards and that’s all. We don’t have time to go around destroying. Dokua is violent, she sent people to destroy the billboards since they say they suspect Theresa’ team, we also believe they destroyed Mahama’s billboard,” he added in an interview.

Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, a journalist with Angel FM/TV, has boldly challenged any Ghanaian politician to come forward and prove that he has been paid to pursue an agenda that undermines any political party in the country.
In a recent statement, Afrifa-Mensah declared, “If anyone has given me any money, it is Julius Deborah. He gave me money to work as a media person. I’ve never taken his money for an agenda. If there is any politician who says I’ve come for his or her money to engage in an agenda, he or she should come out.”
He went on to recount an interaction with a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who advised him to choose a side while driving, either left or right, to avoid causing an accident. Afrifa-Mensah interpreted this as a metaphor for joining either the NDC or the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Afrifa-Mensah explained that he ultimately aligned with the NPP but maintained his independence by criticizing the party when necessary. He emphasized that his actions and opinions are not driven by financial incentives but by his commitment to truthful and unbiased journalism.
Afrifa-Mensah’s remarks highlight the importance of journalistic integrity and the need for journalists to remain impartial in their reporting, regardless of any external pressures or influences.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed concerns about the scheduling of political cases in the Supreme Court, alleging bias on the part of the Chief Justice.
The party is particularly troubled by the prioritization of the case filed by South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, over the case of Richard Dela Sky v. the Parliament of Ghana and the Attorney-General.
PRESS STATEMENT For Immediate Release
NDC REACTS TO PALPABLE JUDICIAL BIAS IN THE SCHEDULING OF POLITICAL CASES IN THE SUPREME COURT OF GHANA
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has become aware of the decision by the Chief Justice of Ghana to list the case of Rockson-Nelson Etse K. Dafeamekpor v. the Speaker of Parliament and Attorney-General (SUIT NO: J1/12/2024) for hearing on Wednesday, 27th March, 2024.
The NDC is intrigued by the listing of the Dafeamekpor case for hearing, ahead of the case of Richard Dela Sky v. the Parliament of Ghana and the Attorney-General.
It is interesting to note, that Richard Dela Sky filed his writ of summons in the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of the Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2024, on the 5th of March 2024. This was almost two (2) clear weeks before Hon. Rockson Dafeamekpor filed his writ of summons on 18th March, 2024 challenging the constitutionality of the latest ministerial nominations by the President.
Given the recent political deadlock that these two legal suits have created between the Executive arm and the Legislative arm of government, one would have expected that the date of filing of the cases would have informed the timing of their hearing by the apex Court.
Yet, for some strange reasons, the case of Hon. Rockson Dafeamekpor which was last in time to be filed, has been hurriedly listed for hearing, while that of Richard Dela Sky which predated the Dafeamekpor case by two weeks, has not been listed for hearing at all. This is in spite of the fact that, no application for abridgment of time, has been filed by any of the parties in the Dafeamekpor case.
It’s quite apparent, that this is a ploy by the Chief Justice to fast-track the determination of the suit filed by Hon. Rockson Dafeamekpor, while the determination of the Richard Dela Sky suit is deliberately and unduly delayed, to enable the President shelve the crucial Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill that has been passed by Parliament.
Even more bizarre is the fact that, the case filed by some NDC Members of Parliament, challenging the constitutionality of the passage of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) Bill, as far back as 2022, has not been listed for hearing by the Supreme Court till date.
The arbitrary exercise of administrative discretion by the Chief Justice, particularly in the scheduling of cases in the Supreme Court, goes to fortify the high perception of bias on the part of the judiciary.
Such judicial manipulations go to confirm the growing public perception that the current Chief Justice, is a pliant accomplice and abettor of the misrule of the despotic Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government.
While the Constitution of Ghana vests discretionary powers in the Chief Justice in the discharge of her administrative duties over the judiciary, it is important that such discretionary powers are not exercised arbitrarily, capriciously and whimsically.
Judicial independence must mean exactly that. At no point should the Judiciary act in a manner that lends itself to the grounded belief that it is willing to aid an overbearing executive in a standoff with the legislature.
The Chief Justice must appreciate that justice emanates from the people and that the judiciary exists to serve the overall interest of the state and not the interest of any particular political party or government. As such, fairness and balance must at all times shine through their work.
The listing of this particular case filed much later than the Sky case does not reflect these vital prerequisites.
We have come too far in our constitutional journey to allow such glaring manipulation to pass without protest. Such behavior as constantly exhibited by the Chief Justice against entities opposed to the NPP has gone on for too long.
This does not only undermine public confidence in the judiciary but it also makes mockery of our democratic arrangements.
There can be no earthly justification for listing the Defeamekpor case ahead of the Richard Sky case and we demand an immediate rectification of this travesty.
As the political tradition that birthed the fourth republican democracy and constitution, we are extremely concerned about this biased handling of cases by the Chief Justice, which appears to be fueling the ever-festering perception of judicial bias in the country.
These acts of judicial arbitrariness tilted in favour of the ruling Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government, do not engender public confidence and trust in our justice delivery system. And this should give every well-meaning Ghanaian legitimate cause for concern.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns about the scheduling of political cases in the Supreme Court, accusing the Chief Justice of bias against them.
The party’s alarm stems from the prioritization of the case filed by South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, for hearing, over the case of Richard Dela Sky v. the Parliament of Ghana and the Attorney-General.
According to a statement issued by the NDC on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, it is intriguing that “Richard Dela Sky filed his writ of summons in the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of the Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2024, on the 5th of March 2024. This was almost two (2) clear weeks before Hon. Rockson Dafeamekpor filed his writ of summons on 18th March, 2024 challenging the constitutionality of the latest ministerial nominations by the President.”
However, the Chief Justice has scheduled Dafeamekpor’s case for today, Wednesday, March 27, ahead of the Dela Sky matter, which was filed earlier.
Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, NDC’s General Secretary, noted in a statement that “given the recent political deadlock that these two legal suits have created between the Executive arm and the Legislative arm of government, one would have expected that the date of filing of the cases would have informed the timing of their hearing by the apex Court.”
The statement also alleges that the scheduling of the cases is a tactic by the Head of the Judiciary to support the President’s intention to shelve the anti-LGBTQ bill, which has become a matter of concern in the country.
“It’s quite apparent, that this is a ploy by the Chief Justice to fast-track the determination of the suit filed by Hon. Rockson Dafeamekpor, while the determination of the Richard Dela Sky suit is deliberately and unduly delayed, to enable the President shelve the crucial Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill that has been passed by Parliament,” it added.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah has vowed to resign if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) can point out a single hospital it commissioned in the region during its tenure.
According to him, the NDC brainwashed people that they have built and commissioned hospitals in the Ashanti Region when there are no records to show for it.
He quizzed, “which of the 3 interchanges in Ashanti Region was done by the NDC? A party that offered you nothing! You know I have thrown a challenge to them (NDC), that if they can show us one hospital they either came to meet or built themselves from January 7 2009 to 6th January 2017 and were able to commission in Ashanti Region, and I will resign,” the minister threw a challenge to the NDC.
Meanwhile, the minister was speechless during a live TV interview when he was asked a question about the projects that his party, the NPP, has been able to do for the people of his region.
In the interview on Oyerepa TV on Monday, March 25, 2024, Simon Osei-Mensah could be seen struggling to give answers to the question of what he and the New Patriotic Party(NPP) had been able to do.
After speaking about four such projects from his party, for the region, the minister went blank and quiet, unable to say any more words.
“We have completed the Zipline project which is at Mampong… go and look at Bosomtwe Girls… By the end of April, you will see that planes can land at the airport… baby and mother unit that Auntie Rebecca came to commission is also our project,” and then the minister went blank on live TV.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has demanded the resignation of Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, following his remarks on the ‘dumsor’ timetable requested by Ghanaians.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who serves as the Energy Minister, disregarded the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s (PURC) call for a load-shedding timetable, despite the urgent need due to the country’s unstable power supply.
The PURC had directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to furnish a load management schedule by April 2, 2024, given the ongoing electricity supply challenges.
However, Dr. Opoku Prempeh questioned the necessity of such a timetable, challenging those advocating for it to present their proposed schedules instead.
During the inauguration of the NPP campaign team in the Ashanti Region, he urged critics to devise their own timetables if they deemed it necessary.
The NDC condemned the Minister’s remarks, denouncing them as irresponsible.
Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande, expressed the party’s dismay at Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s response to the PURC’s directive in an interview with Citi News.
He suggested that Dr. Prempeh’s comments reflect poorly on the caliber of individuals serving in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government.
“I think I saw Napo’s face, and I saw him grant the interview. You could easily associate that to a man who is frustrated because, obviously, he may not be given the running mate or a man who is drunk. Otherwise, on a clean face of an energy minister who owes responsibility to the people of Ghana to explain to Ghanaians the energy crisis, we don’t make this kind of commentary. They are very unfortunate. They are very irrational. They are very insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians. I was in Oti region over the weekend. It is ‘adomdomadomdom.’ You can’t even power your air condition. Ghanaians are crying and asking that give us a timetable so that we can rationalise our businesses in accordance with the timetable, and you are insulting them.”
“These are the kinds of men that President Akufo-Addo have. This is the kind of liability they have imposed on the finances of this country, who continue to freeze and get paid with taxpayers’ money only to come and spill baggage and irresponsibility back to the people of Ghana… It is clear that we have a useless government in place. We have a bunch of people who do not have the capacity and intellectuality to understand the economy and the problems surrounding it. Let him be responsible. Clearly, the energy minister is not responsible.
The Deputy National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elikem Eric Kevin Kwame Kotoko, has issued a threat against Richard Dela Sky.
Taking to the X platform, Elikem Eric Kevin Kwame Kotoko openly contested Saviour Kuadenu Yao’s claim of being a true son of Ketu.
“Saviour Kuadenu Yao (SKY) aka @RichardDelaSky, I have a message coming your way tonight. Most likely, you may have to block me again. You can’t hold yourself out as a true son of Ketu. Your family name doesn’t resonate PRIDE. I will be streaming LIVE tomorrow,” he wrote.
Mr. Kotoko’s warning comes in the wake of Journalist and lawyer Richard Dela Sky filing a lawsuit in Ghana’s highest court against the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
The bill, aimed at criminalizing homosexuality and LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana, has been approved by Parliament but awaits President Nana Akufo-Addo’s signature, pending a ruling by the Supreme Court on its constitutionality.
Various individuals, including bill proponent Sam George, have criticized Mr. Sky for his actions.
Presently, Elikem Eric Kevin Kwame Kotoko emerges as the latest figure to condemn Richard Dela Sky.
Elikem Kotoko, a vocal supporter of the bill, has taken to social media to castigate Richard Dela Sky, hinting at revelations about Sky’s family background.
“He wasn’t Rich and he was never Ard either, growing up. He lacked that proper upbringing to appreciate what a home was or is and the true definition of family. Don’t be surprised, he has accepted to be used by his paymasters to mount this challenge,” he noted.
Allegations suggest that Sky’s father was involved in criminal activities such as rape and pedophilia, including incestuous acts with his own daughter and another minor.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Salim Adams has cautioned Ghanaians against voting for the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming December polls.
Taking to the X platform he described Dr Bawumia as the “so-called Economic Messiah” who should not be trusted to turn Ghana’s economic woes around.
He added that during the flagbearer of the NDC’s, John Dramani Mahama’s tenure, Ghana’s public debt in 2016 was 120 billion but 610 billion under the NPP government.
According to him Bawumia has nothing to offer when he assumes the presidency of the country as he has already failed in delegating his roles as the vice-president.
“From Nkrumah to Mahama, our public debt was 120 billion in 2016. Today, it’s a shocking 610 billion under #Bawuliar, the so-called Economic Messiah. How can anyone trust such reckless leadership? Voting for him is a betrayal of our future,” he wrote.
His comment is in line with recent revelations regarding Ghana’s public debt which have stirred significant apprehension and debate across the nation.
According to the March 2024 Summary of Economic and Financial Data released by the Bank of Ghana, Ghana’s public debt surged to GH¢610 billion ($52.4 billion) by the end of 2023. This marks an increase of GH¢42.7 billion from September 2023 to December 2023, following a decrease of GH¢14.2 billion recorded between June 2023 and September 2023, bringing the debt to GH¢567.3 billion ($51.0 billion).
The total public debt now represents 72.5% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), indicating that the country’s debt situation remains challenging despite the completion of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme during the period.
While the domestic debt rose by GH¢19.1 billion, the external debt climbed by GH¢23.6 billion, primarily due to the depreciation of the cedi.
Data from the Central Bank further disclosed that the external component of the total public debt reached $30.1 billion (¢350.3 billion) in December 2023, accounting for 41.6% of GDP. Meanwhile, the domestic debt stood at ¢259.7 billion in December 2023, equivalent to approximately 30.1% of GDP.
However, the report omitted information regarding the financial sector resolution debt and other liabilities such as the energy sector debt.

An X (formerly Twitter), KOJO DYNAMIC @AnnanPerry, believed to be a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the Attorney General of Ghana, describing him as a lawyer of the incumbent government, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and not a servant of the country as his role demands of him.
Godfred Dame doesn't see himself as an Attorney General of Ghana but Npp lawyer. All his advice is political and senseless.
“Godfred Dame doesn’t see himself as an Attorney General of Ghana but as a NPP lawyer. All his advice is political and senseless”.
His comments come after Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame recommended to President Akufo-Addo that Parliament hold off on sending the anti-LGBTQ+ bill for assent.
This suggestion was conveyed in a letter signed by Nana Bediatuo Asante, the President’s Secretary, on March 18.
The Attorney General cited two pending Supreme Court applications for interlocutory injunctions as the basis for this advice.
This move garnered several reactions, with many blasting the president for disrespecting the spirit of the law and undermining democracy.
Senior member ofNational Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Minister of Interior (2013-2014), Kwesi Ahwoi, aged 77, has drawn criticism from within the NDC, particularly the pro-Mahama faction, for his remarks implying that the late President John Evans Atta Mills’ fate could potentially repeat itself with John Dramani Mahama if the NDC wins the presidential election in December 2024.
What was intended to be a happy event at the Ahwois’ office on Church Street, Labone, to celebrate Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman’s renomination as John Mahama’s running mate left many guests aghast, with some reportedly leaving the scene prematurely?
In proposing a toast to Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, 72, Kwesi Ahwoi stated confidently that she would be the first woman Vice President of Ghana. A harmless message, it seemed.
However, he proceeded to show how he went further to urge her to hold herself in readiness to be president since “anything can happen,” as it indeed happened when John Mahama took over with the passing of Professor Evan Atta-Mills, which allowed Vice President John Mahama to be sworn in to finish the unexpired term in 2012.
“John Mahama was not ready to be president at the time but nature schemed things in such a way that President Mills had to give way to John Mahama. Anything can happen, so Naana, be ever prepared; as your motto says, anything can happen and you can become the President of the Republic of Ghana,” Kwesi Ahwoi said, in a video that has since gone viral.
During Mr Ahwoi’s comments, a female voice could be heard in the background saying, “No, no, don’t pray for death!” in reaction to what was being said.
Ahwoi’s recent remarks have stirred speculation on social media regarding the health of former President John Mahama, who is set to contest the presidency for the fourth time in December.
Former President John Atta Mills, who battled throat cancer, passed away on 24 July 2012, at the age of 68, after serving as president since 2009. His vice president assumed office and successfully contested the December 2012 general elections.
Historical records show that the influential Ahwoi brothers (Ato, Kwamena, and Kwesi) played a pivotal role in persuading President Jerry John Rawlings to select Prof Mills as his running mate in 1996. Ato Ahwoi’s office on Church Street, Labone, was regarded as a center of influence during the Mills administration.
Naana Poku-Agyemang, whose candidacy was backed by the Ahwois, is seen as a continuation and expansion of that influential legacy.
If Mr. John Mahama wins in 2024, he can only serve a single four-year term, setting the stage for a potentially intense battle for his successor within the NDC.
Interestingly, the Pro-Jane faction, led by the influential Ahwoi brothers, promoted Naana Poku-Agyemang’s candidacy, citing her age and perceived lack of ambition as factors making her the safest choice for the NDC’s running mate in 2024.
Deputy Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Maleek Basintale, has taken a swipe at President Akufo-Addo following a ‘degrading’ tweet by the Director of Communications, New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah.
The Communications Director of the NPP tweeted an old photo of the NDC flagbearer and former president of Ghana, John Mahama, alongside LGBTQ activist and human rights advocate Andrew Solomon.
The caption implied that Mahama supports the LGBTQ community but is being hypocritical about his stance because his party is advocating for the passage of the anti-gay bill.
Cheap! I thought you were better than this. It appears you keep declining and declining. A whole Comms director posting ignorance.
Well, Akuffo-Addo watched his brother Paul Danquah wear pampers before dying. He should use as guide and stop meddling with Lesbians like Serwa B. https://t.co/eWHPI2sOd5
In a reactionary tweet to this, Maleek made reference to the sibling of Akufo-Addo, Paul Danquah who was openly gay. He lived with his life partner, Peter Pollock, in the United Kingdom, and later died in Tangier, Morocco, on August 13, 2015.
He alleged that the President’s brother wore diapers days before his demise.
In light of this, he urged Akufo-Addo to learn from the ‘predicament’ of his late brother and be circumspect in his dealings as far as the anti-gay bill is concerned.
“Well, Akuffo-Addo watched his brother Paul Danquah wear pampers before dying. He should use this as a guide and stop meddling with Lesbians like Serwa B,”he said in a tweet.
Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has condemned the failure of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration to promptly pay allowances owed to National Service Personnel in the public sector.
According to Mahama, the delay in payment, which began in November 2023, has caused significant financial hardship for service personnel.
During a recent tour on March 22, Mahama reflected on his presidency, noting that under his leadership, service personnel allowances were consistently paid on time.
He expressed surprise and disappointment at the current situation, questioning the competence of the ruling government to meet the basic needs of the people.
Speaking to the crowd in the local dialect, Mahama criticised the government’s performance, particularly its inability to fulfil its obligations.
“There was never a time in my government where we were unable to pay monthly allowance, but today for five months, they are unable to pay the service personnel, and the money is not so much. About 600 cedis or 700 cedis. What kind of government is this? Nothing seems to be going well. The economy was bad and we are wallowing in debt, and the little amount due these personnel, you are equally unable to pay,” Mahama said.
Meanwhile, National Service personnel nationwide have indicated their intention to go on strike to demand the payment of their allowances.
Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has alleged that on Thursday, March 21, the party held a party to celebrate the appointment of Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang as the running mate of the party’s flagbearer, John Mahama
In a post on X, the Chief Executive Officer of the Atta Mills Institute accused the leadership of the opposition party of prioritising their welfare over that of foot soldiers.
According to him, no foot soldier was invited to the event, despite the vital role they play during elections.
He described the alleged actions of the party leadership as “infantile fanfare behaviour.”
Hmmm!!! Yesterday, they had the party – no problem. So, after partying without the foot soldiers, they expect the foot soldiers to campaign on empty stomachs? Never in the history of the NDC has the party been reduced to such infantile fanfare behavior. Disgraceful!!! pic.twitter.com/mO8BmYHln4

Electorates at Kejetia Dubai in the Ashanti Region have shared details on what exactly would persuade them to vote for a candidate in the upcoming polls.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Voters’ Voice, citizens shared diverse reasons they would vote for a particular candidate from a political party.
A trader noted that if she had her way, there would be no election. She noted that the two major political parties, namely the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), are cut from the same cloth.
“They are all the same. They come to squander money. If I had my way, I’d cancel the elections”, a trader said.
A trader who shared a similar position noted that she would prefer to sleep than vote. According to her, the ordinary citizen is left to fend for themselves as the leaders continue to enrich themselves and their families.
“They are all the same. They only know family and neglect us. So I will sleep, when NDC comes, I suffer alone and it is same for NPP. They are spending our money but they don’t even look after us. I will sleep or work rather than get a job for somebody.
Others were against the idea of former President Mahama making a comeback.
“If we follow Mahama, it will not help us. Under Atta Mills’ era, they collapsed the one time premium for us. It didn’t help us. He will cancel free education.
“We want change in the country and so if you can bring the development we want. So whether NPP or NDC, we need someone to bring more industries.
A trader noted that her vote is for the ruling NPP due to the Free Senior High School programme implemented by President Akufo-Addo’s in 2017.
“We have benefited a lot from the free SHS. I will vote for Bawumia.”
Others who decided that they would vote for NPP flagbearer, Dr Bawumia cited his digitalisation agenda as reason.
NDC’s Mahama received no support from electorates. It is important to note that the Ashanti Region is the stronghold of the NPP.
The former women’s organiser aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ellen Ama Daaku has rejected the idea of equality between the President and the Speaker of Parliament with regards to their power and authority.
During her appearance on TV3, Ellen Ama Daaku highlighted the constitutional distinction between the roles of the President and the Speaker of Parliament.
She underscored that according to the constitution, the President holds the position of the first gentleman of the land, emphasizing that the President, Vice President, Speaker of Parliament, and Chief Justice collectively hold precedence over all other individuals in Ghana.
“The constitution says the president is the first gentleman of the land. The President and the Speaker of Parliament are not the same. The President comes first, followed by the Vice President, and then the Speaker of Parliament and the Chief Justice, these four shall take precedence over all other persons in Ghana so they are not the same.
Madam Daaku expressed concern over attempts by some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including Prof. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, to equate the authority of the President and the Speaker of Parliament, emphasizing that they are not equivalent positions under the constitutional framework.
“You see what this thing that the NDC is trying to say not just from Prof. Grace Ayensu-Danquah from all of them that the president and the Speaker of parliament are the same, they are not the same,” she added.
Speaker Bagbin had previously claimed to hold the second most powerful position in the country, surpassing the Vice President.
He recounted an interaction with Supreme Court judges who affirmed his ranking above the Vice President, indicating that he occupies a higher position in the country’s hierarchy than previously assumed.
Bagbin’s remarks, delivered amidst laughter from Members of Parliament, emphasized the equality of the three arms of government – executive, legislative, and judicial.
He underscored the need for parity in resource allocation, highlighting the historical neglect of Parliament and the judiciary in budget allocations since 1993.
Addressing the gathered MPs, Bagbin stressed the significance of elevating parliamentary and judicial funding to at least 5% of total revenue within four years.
He revealed his discussions with both Majority and Minority leaders regarding this matter and expressed shock at the minimal allocation these branches have historically received.
“When you start from His Excellency the President, you have to go to the Vice before you come to the Speaker and then you go to the Chief Justice. But there are three arms of government,” he said, attracting spontaneous laughter from the MPs.
“My colleagues in the Supreme Court actually told me that you are not Number 3, you are Number 2. All those who were present at that meeting were convinced when the Supreme Court judge made the submission and justified it.”
Mr. Bagbin said “it is not me saying it. I have said I am Number 3 and they said I am not, I am Number 2,” he added.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has countered assertions suggesting that former President John Dramani Mahama bears responsibility for the recent power outages, commonly termed as ‘dumsor.’
Amid concerns over intermittent power cuts experienced in various parts of the country, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured the public that there is no immediate need for a load-shedding schedule.
However, the NDC has criticized the government’s handling of the ‘dumsor’ situation and has called for a timetable to address it.
During an interview on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi TV, Sammy Gyamfi attributed the sporadic power outages to issues inherited from previous administrations. He stressed that ‘dumsor’ was not instigated by John Dramani Mahama or the NDC.
Gyamfi recalled instances of ‘dumsor’ during past administrations and linked the problem to insufficient investment in power generation to meet escalating demand.
National Democratic Congress (NDC) is urging for a thorough forensic audit of the budget and spending related to the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana.
The opposition party is critical of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming that despite allocating $195 million for pre-games preparations and $48 million to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for transportation, feeding, and logistics, the event has been marred by disappointment and disgrace.
In a statement signed by its National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, dated Monday, March 18, 2024, the NDC expressed shock at the significant financial investment made by the NPP government into the games, which they argue have failed to yield positive results for the country.
The party is calling for accountability and transparency through a comprehensive audit of the expenditures.
Moreover, the NDC is demanding the resignation or dismissal of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, citing what they deem as “gross incompetence” in organising the games.
Additionally, they are calling for the dissolution of the LOC overseeing the event, expressing concern over the performance and logistical challenges faced by the Ghanaian contingent participating in the games.
Below is the full statement from the NDC:
PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 18th March, 2024 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has just sighted media publications about South Africa’s decision to withdraw its men’s and women’s hockey teams from the ongoing African Games due to the substandard nature of Ghana’s Hockey Pitch. This is the latest in a streak of embarrassing spectacles that have characterised the ongoing games.
The other day, Ghana’s Cycling Champion, Michael Naaba, had to withdraw from the ongoing cycling competition after his personal bicycle, which he was using for the competition, broke down shortly after the contest started.
It has also been reported that Ghana’s Swimming Team withdrew from the 4×100 relay final for undisclosed reasons. It has further been reported that Ghana’s athletes are highly dissatisfied in the ongoing games due to poor preparations and a lack of equipment.
Yet, we are told that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government has spent a colossal USD$195 million on pre-games preparations, while a staggering USD$48 million has been made available to the Local Organising Committee for transportation, feeding, and other logistics for the games.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, representing the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly criticized the recent actions of the Presidency regarding the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.
In a Town Hall meeting in Banda as part of his Oti Region tour, Mahama condemned the letter from the Presidency instructing Parliament not to send the Bill to President Akufo-Addo for assent.
Mahama argued that the Secretary to the President had overstepped legal boundaries by issuing such a directive, asserting that it goes against the constitutional obligation of Parliament to send every Bill to the President.
He emphasised that the letter’s tone was disrespectful and implied undue authority over Parliament.
“We all know that our tradition is against LGBTQ. No religion in Ghana accepts it. Christianity does not accept it, Islam does not, even the traditionalists also reject it. It is a taboo in Ghana.
“Parliament recently passed a Bill to be sent to the President for his approval. But he has refused to sign because he claims the case is in court so he will wait for the pronouncement by the Supreme Court.
“But this morning I woke up to see a letter from the Secretary to the President to Parliament warning them against transmitting the letter to the Presidency. But everyone who is a lawyer will tell you that the President’s secretary has no authority to write such a letter because Parliament is obligated by the constitution to send every Bill to the President. So you cannot tell Parliament not to do its job,” the former President said.
This controversy arose after the Office of the President officially requested Parliament to hold off on transmitting the Bill to President Akufo-Addo due to pending legal challenges in the Supreme Court.
The letter, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo, cited ongoing applications for an order of interlocutory injunction and advised against taking any action until the court resolves the issues.
Mahama’s criticism echoes sentiments expressed by Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu, who characterised the President’s office’s actions as hindering Parliament’s duties and seeking predominance over other state organs.
“That is unacceptable and must be fought by all persons who love democracy and cherish the principles and values of the 1992 Constitution. This is a monumental threat to Ghana’s democracy and a monumental threat to Parliament as an institution. By Article 93 we are clothed with legislative authority and mandate.
“If you study how the letter was written, the tone was disrespectful. He (Secretary to the President) wrote the letter as if he has more authority than Parliament,” he added.
The clash highlights the ongoing debate and legal battles surrounding the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill in Ghanaian politics, emphasizing the complex interplay between executive authority, legislative mandates, and legal procedures.
In the letter, parliament was advised not to send the Bill on Human Sexual Rights and Family Values to President Akufo-Addo for approval.
Iddrisu emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that he has been unable to sleep due to the perceived threat to democracy posed by the president’s communication.
The directive from the Office of the President, dated March 18, 2024, instructed parliament not to forward the anti-LGBT+ Bill for presidential assent.
Nana Bediatuo Asante, the Secretary to the President, defended this decision, citing the ongoing case before the Supreme Court. Asante stated that President Akufo-Addo would only take action after the court reached a decision.
In response, Haruna Iddrisu characterized the directive as an attempt by President Akufo-Addo to wield undue influence over other branches of government, as reported by citinewsroom.com.
“I am unable to sleep because this is a monumental threat to Ghana’s democracy and a monumental threat to parliament as an institution. By Article 93, we are clothed with legislative authority and legislative mandate. This letter only reflects President Akufo-Addo’s quest for predominance over other organs of state, and that is unacceptable and must be fought by all persons who love democracy and who cherish the principles and values of the 1992 Constitution.
“The framers of our Constitution endowed Ghana with a separation of powers: the executive, the legislature, the judiciary, and a division of powers.
It endowed us that parliament shall be responsible for making laws, and what powers does the president’s secretary have in writing to the Clerk of Parliament and not the president himself in writing directly to the Speaker of Parliament as is required by our standing order so that officially this can be read as communication from the president? So ideally, this paper means nothing and must be ignored by the clerk,” he stated.
The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has emphasized that the proposed 24-hour economy initiative will not be imposed on businesses, but rather they will be encouraged to participate voluntarily.
Mahama reiterated his commitment to implementing the 24-hour economy policy if elected in the 2024 elections, highlighting its potential to significantly enhance Ghana’s economy and create numerous job opportunities for the youth.
Speaking to members of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, Mahama assured them that the NDC is actively working on the implementation of the policy once in office.
He underscored that the 24-hour economy is aimed at augmenting employment opportunities but is not intended as the sole solution.
Mahama pledged to officially introduce the policy and provide further details before assuming office, ensuring that participation remains optional.
“It is an easy way to increase the vacancies for employment generation while we add on more avenues. It doesn’t mean that that is the only strategy for employment.
“We will outdoor it before we come into government and when we come into government we will hit the ground running with it. As I said it is not going to be compulsory. If you want to join, you join.”
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, serving as the Director of Elections and Information Communications Technology for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has confidently predicted the outcome of the imminent general elections.
He anticipates a triumph for former President John Dramani Mahama, forecasting a victory margin of 57.3%.
Drawing from research conducted by the NDC, Dr. Omane Boamah asserted that as of March 8, 2024, John Dramani Mahama maintains a substantial lead over the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamadu Mahama.
Expressing unwavering optimism regarding the party’s prospects, Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized the necessity of remaining vigilant, exerting concerted efforts, and avoiding complacency both during and after the elections.
On March 14, 2024, Dr. Omane Boamah took to his Facebook page to divulge the research findings, highlighting the encouraging outlook for the NDC in the forthcoming elections.
Additionally, he underscored the party’s dedication to implementing initiatives like the 24-hour Economy, aimed at generating well-paying employment opportunities for the nation’s youth, should John Dramani Mahama assume office on January 7, 2025.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has contested government assertions regarding the allocation of approximately GH¢80 million for rehabilitation efforts in flood-affected communities following the spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams.
The opposition party refutes any ongoing intervention works by the government or substantial relief efforts for victims of the 2023 flooding incidents.
NDC’s Volta Regional Communications Officer, Sorkpa Kafui Agbleze, emphasized in a press release.
According to him, it is unacceptable for the government to make false assurances and for the President to misinform the public about the aid being provided to alleviate their suffering.
“It is therefore unconscionable for the government to make false promises and for the President to mislead the public about the support being provided to mitigate their suffering”, he added.
President Akufo-Addo, in his 67th National Independence Day address in Koforidua, claimed, “As set out in the 2024 budget, the Government has set aside two hundred and twenty million cedis (GH¢220 million), of which eighty million cedis (GH¢80 million) has already been released by the Ministry of Finance, to support the ongoing rehabilitation efforts for the affected communities. The government will stop at nothing to restore normalcy to the lives and livelihoods of all affected persons.”
The NDC contends that this statement is misleading, as there are no visible signs of rehabilitation projects or financial aid in the affected areas. They assert, “It is evident that the promised relief funds have not been provided.”
Instead, private individuals, organizations, companies, and foreign entities have stepped in with deliberate interventions, driven by continuous advocacy and appeals.
The lack of transparency and accountability in the disbursement of the allocated funds intended to aid flood victims is questioned by Mr. Agbleze.
He lamented that victims continue to endure the catastrophic consequences of the disaster, including displacement of thousands, loss of livelihoods, and property damage worth millions of cedis.
The NDC demands that the NPP government refrain from politicizing the human-induced disaster, provide immediate clarification on the status of the allocated funds, and ensure prompt distribution to the intended beneficiaries.
They stressed that the people of the Volta Region, like all other regions, deserve complete transparency and timely assistance during this crisis.
Mr. Agbleze concluded by affirming the NDC’s unwavering solidarity with the people of the Volta Region and their commitment to advocating for their rights, interests, and welfare.
“We call on the NPP government to desist from callously politicizing the human-induced disaster, immediately provide clarity on the status of the allocated funds, and ensure that they get to the intended beneficiaries without further delay. The people of the Volta Region, like any other region, deserve nothing less than full transparency and timely assistance in this time of crisis.
“The NDC stands in solidarity with the people of the Volta Region and will thus relentlessly continue to advocate for their rights, interests, and welfare”, he concluded.
A member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) James Kwabena Bomfeh popularly known as Kabila, has rubbished the decision by the National Democratic (NDC) to monitor the 2024 elections with drones.
Speaking on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrookoo’ morning show Kabila, explained that flying drones on an election ground in a quest to monitor the procedures could incite chaos if other political parties decide to follow suit.
He questioned if the NDC party does not have confidence in its agents that will be present on the day of election.
Kabila advised the NDC to allow its representatives and the Electoral Commission (EC), to conduct free and fair elections.
“What will be the essence of flying drones on election grounds? Kwame there’s one State security agency, security and intelligence agency. We can’t have a parallel security intelligence agency. If there’s any monitoring to be done by citizens. A political party cannot just wake up and do that on their own. If you go and do it and another party follows suit, it won’t go well.
“It could cause chaos. Are the party agents enough to monitor or they don’t trust them,” he added. Kabila’s comment comes after the NDC indicated that it will employ drones to monitor the upcoming December 7 polls specifically, in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the Regional Chairman of the party, Ashie Moore, this is to safeguard the security of over two million votes for the NDC, and enhance surveillance mechanisms to avoid any potential irregularities.
Mr Moore added that comprehensive plans are already in progress, including the training of personnel designated to operate the drones. Meanwhile, the flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, has emphasized the need for heightened vigilance among party members in Accra. During his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ in Accra, Mahama attributed the NDC’s loss in the 2020 elections to various irregularities.
He urged executives to carefully select capable agents to represent the party during the polls.
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has clarified that the party’s intention to employ drones during the 2024 general elections will exclusively cover constituencies within the Greater Accra Region.
On Wednesday, March 13, Nii Ashie Moore announced a strategic initiative to deploy drones for monitoring the 2024 general elections in the region. The party’s objective is to safeguard over two million votes and enhance monitoring mechanisms to prevent potential irregularities.
However, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), expressed opposition to the NDC’s plan in a media interview.
During an interview on the Citiuation Room on Citi TV, on Thursday, March 14, Mr. Ashie Moore emphasized that the EC lacks the authority to prohibit the Greater Accra Regional Office of the NDC from utilizing drones to monitor the elections.
Mr. Ashie Moore explained that the decision was made to protect the party’s votes and emphasized that the national leadership of the party played no role in the regional decision-making process. He asserted that they do not require approval from the national leadership to execute their plan.
“Let me put it on record that the EC doesn’t have that mandate, power, that right to say that one cannot use drones before, during and after elections in Ghana. There’s no single L. I that regulates that. We have written to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, when they give us the approval, we are going to use the drones.”
“This is a regional plan and not a national thing. We plan to do within our remit, the 34 constituencies within the Greater Accra Region. This has nothing to do with our party constitution or manifesto. The national may want to do some inputs or some adjustments, we don’t need approval to do those things. All that we want to do is to protect our votes,” he clarified.
“We realised a lot of anomalies during the last exercise [limited voter registration], so we decided that before, during and after 7th December elections we are going to use drones.”
The Greater Accra Regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has stated that hardly does he depend on his family members for votes.
In an interview on Neat FM on March 13, 2024, he indicated at the polls everything is possible as individuals could turn back on their promises in the quest for personal gains.
He referenced a past election where a candidate obtained only one vote, despite having family members.
“When it comes to elections, it is very crucial, and I can say on authority that the people that I live with in the house, I don’t trust all of them.
“Let me quote again: the people that I live with in the house, I don’t trust them, so when it comes to an election, it is very crucial. So, I don’t trust anybody,” he said.
When questioned about the inclusion of his wife in this sentiment, Moore affirmed his stance, indicating that his mistrust encompasses even those closest to him.
“I am telling you; don’t you remember that a certain politician had one vote during the election? I am not speaking for the national executives of the party… I am talking about the Greater Accra Region, Ga-Dangbe.
“So, I want to take my security into my own hands guided by law. I do not want to go against the law, so I want to protect myself,” he added.
The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has committed to prioritizing the revival of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) should the NDC emerge victorious in the December 7 elections.
Expressing disappointment with the current administration, Mahama accused them of neglecting the NHIS, resulting in a decline in its effectiveness.
Speaking to church leaders in Tema, Mahama underscored the NDC’s commitment to ensuring the NHIS operates efficiently to deliver quality healthcare to all Ghanaians.
He criticized the alleged lack of financial support from the current government, suggesting that this has caused subscribers to struggle in accessing healthcare services without additional charges.
“The basic problem is that the NHIS has almost collapsed. This government is not paying money into the scheme. And once the scheme doesn’t get money, they also cannot pay the facilities for the claims that they make. And so they are forced to charge the patients when the patients come.
“Or else, all they will do is give you a folder, you go and see the doctor. That is the only service you get. For everything else, you have to go outside and pay with cash to get. And so it looks like we are coming back to the cash and carry days. And so what we will do is we will strengthen the NHIS again so that it can give the services that it was designed to give.”
Former Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has expressed his opinion on former President John Mahama’s choice of Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyeman as his running mate ahead of the 2024 elections.
Even though she has a good profile and doesn’t seem to have stepped on any toes in the political landscape, not many are excited about her candidature.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Morning Show on March 13, 2024, Nana Ankomea noted that the Professor’s retention as John Mahama’s running mate ads no excitement or makes no difference in John Mahama’s campaign and road to the Jubilee House journey.
He said, “the woman the NDC has appointed as flagbearer is a good person but listening to the concerns of people, there is really no excitement about her candidature. To me, it’s not exciting; it brings no excitement When she was introduced in 2020, there was some kind of excitement because everyone thought she would introduce something new, but she couldn’t even deliver.”.
He added that “her first ticket as running-mate in 2020 came with some exhilaration, as many were hopeful of a change and some spice and ‘ difference’ from her but “even in her own region, the Central Region. So we hope this time she adds a touch and helps NDC’s bid but look at her, she’s a good woman so let’s wait and watch how she’s able to spice up this year’s campaign.
In any case, I’m happy about her candidature, but I doubt she would really bring anything new to John Mahama’s campaign” he added
Former President John Dramani Mahama announced Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the 2024 elections on February 28, 2024.
This marks the second time Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has been chosen for this position, having previously partnered with Mahama in the 2020 elections.
TheNational Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed her nomination, highlighting their dedication to inclusivity, diversity, and the promotion of women in leadership roles. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, a former Minister of Education, brings extensive experience to the NDC’s presidential ticket.
Manklalo of the Mafi Traditional Area, Togbe Brentuo Asafo IV, has expressed the need for a third political force in Ghana.
In Mafi, during a political tour of the Volta Region by founder and leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, he noted that Ghanaians have not seen sufficient development from the two major political parties; the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He noted that Ghana would see the needed change if Mr Kyerematen is given the nod to lead the country.
“We want to have a third force. We are fed up with the NDC and NPP. I am not condemning them, they have done what they could. They have too much time in power. We pray God makes him [Alan Kyerematen] the third force to govern us. The chiefs and people of Mafi are behind him”, he said.
Mr. Kyerematen affirmed this sentiment, stating that Ghanaians are calling for a change and a new leader to guide the country’s affairs.
“The majority of Ghanaians are looking for change. They are asking for a government of national unity, a union government which will not only be composed of people who are politicians. But all our stakeholders, including chiefs, religious men, and various people”, he said.
He also announced that the Volta Region would receive a significant portion of development projects under his administration to boost the region’s status. He highlighted the region’s potential in agriculture, oil and gas, tourism, and other sectors.
Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has promised to transform Juapong into an economic hub by reviving the Volta Star Textile factory, enhancing the market, and establishing a trader’s bank in the area.
Mr. Kyerematen made this announcement during his Market Tour of the Volta Region, starting at the Juapong Market in the Central Tongu District. His tour is part of his campaign efforts ahead of the December 7 general elections.
Local Textile manufacturers expressed worry in January last year that, after a series of interventions by Volta Star Textile Limited (VSTL), the company is still not able to produce to meet the demand of local producers.
Volta Star is the only state-owned local processor of cotton for fabric manufacturers in the country established under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Mr Kyerematen also announced plans to establish the largest skills development center in the entire West Africa sub-region, with a focus on the Volta Region.
This initiative is part of his regional development agenda, where each region would have a specific project aimed at improving the country’s economic status.
Continuing to the Ho Central Market, Mr. Kyerematen urged traders to support him to make the region a hub for skills development.
The Movement for Change team concluded their tour at the Sogakofe Market, reiterating their commitment to the region’s development.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has rebuked the opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) proposal to utilize drones in the Greater Accra region during the 2024 elections.
The NDC’s plan entails deploying drones to oversee the election proceedings in the region, but the EC views this initiative as a potential violation of voters’ electoral privacy and security measures.
The Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, remarked that the commission has not received formal communication from the NDC regarding their intention to employ drones.
Dr. Quaicoe emphasized that permitting such actions would contravene security protocols and jeopardize the confidentiality of voters.
“Polling stations are security zones, so they will have to apply to the security people for permission to be granted. They will have to apply to the Electoral Commission for permission to be granted.
“But my point is that how comfortable will you feel that you are going to vote at the polling station and there’s a drone hovering around you?
“How sure are you with respect to the secrecy of the ballot, so they have to apply,” he said in an interview with Joy News on March 12, 2024.
“The fact remains that polling stations are security zones. We want to ensure the secrecy of the ballot. So, at the polling station where I am going to make my choice, I want to vote in that secrecy,” he added.
The EC’s stance was prompted by remarks made by Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, who clarified that the use of drones is part of the party’s strategy to secure two million votes in the forthcoming elections.
Mr Moore underscored the objective of enhancing the NDC’s monitoring capabilities to prevent potential electoral irregularities.
Furthermore, Moore disclosed ongoing preparations to train constituency executives on operating the drones effectively to monitor ground activities.
Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has reassured the Electoral Commission (EC) that the drones the party plans to use for monitoring the upcoming general election will not violate voters’ privacy.
The Electoral Commission has expressed concern, stating that the use of drones would infringe on voters’ electoral privacy and breach security protocols.
However, Gbande emphasized that the party would strictly adhere to all electoral rules by flying the drones outside the voting perimeter. He emphasized that this measure is aimed at contributing to a free and fair election process.
Gbande made these remarks during an interview on JoyNews’ Election Brief on March 12.
“My assurance to the Electoral Commission is that the drone strategy in the Greater Accra region will not include the voting and polling station perimeters, where nobody is supposed to walk or move within.
“When you go to a voting centre or a polling station, there is a certain perimeter that is cordoned that no one is supposed to move.
“The purposes of having that perimeter is for the safety of the voter and then the assurance of secrecy of the voting process. They can be rest assured that it will not affect the perimeter of voting,” he said.
Mr. Gbande emphasized that the party’s preparations are based on lessons learned from the 2020 elections. He stated that in the upcoming polls, the drones will be used to detect any electoral misconduct.
“Beyond that, we can even monitor when people are using election materials. We were in this country in 2020 when they printed excess ballot papers. We knew that. So if we intend to monitor even the EC’s activity going into 2024 to ensure that nobody moves fake materials into any area for the purposes of rigging an election, we believe it is our strategy and it does not flout any law,” he added.
The Deputy General Secretary of the NDC added that the drone will only be deployed in the Greater Accra region.
The Head of Research at the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), Paul Eric Ofori, has characterized Majority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s remarks against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as regrettable and short-sighted.
The Majority Leader, speaking in Parliament on Monday, March 11, criticized the NDC’s choice of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, a woman in her 70s, as running mate, suggesting a lack of succession plan and visionary leadership within the NDC. This sparked anger among the Minority Caucus, leading Afenyo-Markin to retract his comments.
Appearing on the Breakfast Daily program on Citi TV, Eric Opoku argued that Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s extensive experience, including serving as vice chancellor of a university and as the Education Minister, speaks for itself.
He deemed Afenyo-Markin’s comments unnecessary and urged a focus on what the running mate can bring to the table.
“I was hoping that we would look at what she can do rather than her age. If we consider that part, then it will mean that we are not giving a voice to the women who want to come into politics. For a no less a person than the Majority Leader in Parliament to make such a statement is most unfortunate and myopic on his part to attempt to think that Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang comes in with nothing,” he added.
Ofori expressed disappointment in the Majority Leader’s statement, considering it unfortunate and myopic to undermine the selection choice made by John Dramani Mahama.
He emphasized the need to evaluate Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s capabilities rather than fixating on her age, asserting that such statements discourage women from entering politics.
“Prior to even being the running mate, she had been the vice chancellor for a whole university, then also became the Education Minister so in terms of experience, she comes in with a lot of experience and I do not think that it is in the place of Alexander Afenyo-Markin to sort of denigrate the image of the selection choice of John Dramani Mahama.
“I was hoping that we would look at what she can do rather than her age. If we consider that part, then it will mean that we are not giving a voice to the women who want to come into politics. For a no less a person than the Majority Leader in Parliament to make such a statement is most unfortunate and myopic on his part to attempt to think that Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang comes in with nothing.”
Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has announced plans to unveil the party’s manifesto for the 2024 general elections before the middle of the year.
The manifesto launch will showcase key policies, including the establishment of a 24-hour economy, the discontinuation of ex-gratia payments, and the deployment of nurses abroad to address unemployment among healthcare professionals.
Speaking during his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ in Accra on Monday, March 11, Mr. Mahama expressed confidence in the manifesto’s ability to drive socioeconomic progress. He emphasized the importance of engaging stakeholders in discussions to refine the party’s objectives.
“Once we have done that fleshing out, and we’ll finish the ‘Building Ghana Tour’, we’re going to put all the points together, and we are hoping that before the middle of the year, we will be able to launch the manifesto and after that, I will launch the campaign officially…and we’re going to go all out.
“We’re going to go door to door. We are going to go from kitchen to kitchen,” he added.
Following the manifesto launch, the NDC will formally commence its campaign to garner support for its vision. Mr. Mahama outlined the party’s outreach strategy, highlighting the significance of community engagement in effectively communicating their agenda.

The primary objective, as outlined by Ashie Moore, is to safeguard the security of over two million votes for the party and enhance surveillance mechanisms to preempt any potential irregularities.

“Next week, we are going to train constituency executives on how to use drones to monitor what happens during the elections,” Ashie Moore told cheering supporters.
While the specific details of the deployment remain undisclosed, Ashie Moore emphasized the party’s unwavering commitment to securing all essential resources for a seamless electoral process.
The NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, echoed the call for vigilance during the polls.
“One of the key aspects of this election will be vigilance. We can conduct extensive campaigns, but without vigilance on the day and comprehensive coverage of every polling station with eagle eyes, our objectives may not be achieved. Therefore, especially in Greater Accra, we urge you to have the best party agents covering your polling stations.”

Parliament witnessed heightened tensions as Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin launched a scathing attack on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, sparking fury from the Minority bench.
During the State of the Nation Address (SONA) debate on March 11, Afenyo-Markin criticized Opoku-Agyemang’s tenure as education minister and raised concerns about her age, pointing out that, at 70 years old, her selection lacked foresight and could potentially lead to a leadership crisis in the absence of a succession plan if the NDC were to win the 2024 elections.
He expressed skepticism about the NDC’s planning for the future, emphasizing that their choice of a running mate over 70 years old lacked strategic foresight and could result in a government crisis. The remarks triggered initial protests from the Deputy Minority Chief Whip.
Afenyo-Markin continued his criticism during a second opportunity to speak, questioning the NDC’s lack of visionary leadership and the selection of Opoku-Agyemang as a running mate, highlighting her retirement from UCC as VC and alleged poor performance at the Ministry of Education.
“It is the same old NDC. It is the same old John Mahama. Mr Speaker, perish the thought, should he even get the opportunity he has only four years constitutionally.
“There would be no sense of urgency in him because he has nothing to lose. Even if you look at his choice of running mate, he could not get somebody that one could say that they are planning for the future.
“The person is over 70 years old, they have no succession plan. From day one, their government will be in crisis. They went to pick the very old person who could not perform at the Education Ministry,” he submitted triggering initial protest from the Deputy Minority Chief Whip.
“The flagbearer, constitutionally has just one term. Should that happen, the flagbearer has chosen a running mate, Mr. Speaker. Under normal circumstances, they should have given us a running mate who can offer a future to Ghana.
“Like we have given a flagbearer who represents the future of Ghana. You have brought a running mate who retired from UCC as VC and came to the Ministry of Education to perform abysmally. The E-blocks she could not complete them. She did only 29. Today, you say the running mate should be the future of this country,” he said.
The comments incited outrage among NDC members, prompting demands for an immediate retraction and apology from Afenyo-Markin. The Minority caucus banged tables in protest, arguing that attacking Opoku-Agyemang’s age was unjustifiable, particularly in light of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s age.
The escalating tension led to the suspension of proceedings for an hour by the Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah Amoako. Outside the chamber, Ketu South MP Dzifa Gomashie condemned Afenyo-Markin’s comments as “despicable,” highlighting Opoku-Agyemang’s achievements and urging an apology from the NPP leadership.
Upon resumption, Afenyo-Markin withdrew his remarks, allowing the debate on the State of the Nation Address to proceed.
Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has emphasized the need for heightened vigilance among party members in the Greater Accra Region ahead of the 2024 general elections.
During his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ in Accra, Mahama highlighted that the NDC’s loss in the 2020 elections was attributed to various irregularities. He emphasized the importance of addressing these issues to ensure a fair electoral process.
Following their defeat in the 2020 polls, the NDC pursued legal action at the Supreme Court to address their concerns about electoral irregularities.
Speaking to NDC executives and key stakeholders, Mahama underscored the significance of strengthening efforts to secure victory in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Mahama highlighted the critical role of vigilance, stating, “One of the key things in this election is vigilance, we can do all the campaigning we want, but if we are not vigilant on the day, and we don’t cover every single polling station with eagles’ eyes. You can do all the beautiful things you can, razzmatazz and in the end, you don’t achieve the target you want.”
He urged executives to carefully select capable agents to represent the party during the polls.
“So Greater Accra Region, we want you to cover all the polling stations with the best party agents. The election directory, you are aware, is conducting some exercises. They’ve been conducting exams for election directors in their constituencies and the regions because we need the best people who understand the electoral system to be able to monitor the elections in the region.
A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, has accused broadcast journalist Roland Walker of bias and working to undermine the ruling party’s image.
In a post on social media platform X, Ibrahim accused Mr Walker of allegedly attacking NPP flagbearer and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Ibrahim claimed that Walker’s actions were orchestrated by former President John Mahama and NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi to tarnish Dr. Bawumia‘s image.
And for undertaking such actions, Ibrahim alleges that Mr Walker has been appointed as the Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Social Media Team.
“Congratulations to Roland Walker of TV3 for his appointment as the Director of the NDC Social Media Team. Man has truly worked hard for this appointment. He was tasked by John Mahama and Sammy Gyamfi to throw his profession to the Dogs and attack Dr. Bawumia and the NPP at any given opportunity for this appointment,” he wrote.
Mr Walker has not publicly responded to the allegations, and there has been no official confirmation from the NDC regarding his reported appointment.
Broadcast journalist with Media General, Roland Walker, has reportedly been appointed as the Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Social Media Team ahead of the country’s upcoming elections.
This information was disclosed by a communicator and social media activist for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abdul Rauf Ibrahim.
In what appeared to be a congratulatory message on the X platform, Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, alleged that Mr Walker managed to secure the role by deliberately making the ruling party unpopular and attacking NPP flagbearer, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during his line of work.
According to Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, the journalist was allegedly tasked by the NDC flagbearer, former President John Mahama and the opposition party’s Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, to tarnish the image of the Vice President.
As it stands now, the seasoned journalist who has acted as a fixer for the BBC, DW-TV, VDF – Germany, CBS and ESPN has not come out to make any such announcement regarding his support for any political party.
Former President John Mahama, has taken a retrospective look at his presidency, acknowledging the challenges posed by his commitment to transparency.
While expressing the importance of elected officials being forthright to foster trust, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), voiced concerns about the current government’s lack of transparency, particularly regarding recent power challenges, suggesting a deliberate effort to withhold information from the public.
Mahama, known for his honesty, reflected on his presidency, stating, “I was brought up to tell the truth at all times, so when I was President, if things were not going well, I told the people of Ghana and what we were trying to do about it. I think my honesty was one of the major problems I had because I didn’t think that I should fool my people”.
The former president reiterated his commitment to openness, emphasizing differences in intentions with the current administration.
He criticized the present government for not fully disclosing crucial information, citing recent power sector developments as evidence.
“We know that they are shedding the load, they have a problem with generation. Some generation assets are down, they have a problem with paying for gas. Every day they are shedding between 280 and 480 megawatts of power but they will not give us a timetable because that is what Ghanaians know as dumsor”.
“We must not only hold to account the government that has gone out. We must also hold to account our own people who go wrong while we are in government”.
He urged accountability not only for the outgoing government but also for those within the current administration who make mistakes. These remarks were made during Mahama’s ongoing Building Ghana Tour in the Upper West Region.
The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, responded to the announcement of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate for the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, in the 2024 general elections.
In a Facebook post made hours after the announcement, Gyamfi praised Prof. Opoku Agyemang, highlighting her as a woman of substance, integrity, and character.
The National Executive Committee of the NDC officially confirmed Professor Opoku-Agyemang as the party’s running mate for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
“She is the honourable woman who will be assisting the Nation Builder, H.E John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC to rescue our beloved country from the clutches of the inept, insensitive, corrupt, wasteful, nepotistic, and useless Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government come December 7, 2024.”
He added: “By the grace of God, she will be Ghana’s first female Vice President, come 7th January 2025.”
In a concise 16-second video, former President John Dramani Mahama informed Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang of her continued role as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has noted a positive shift in the atmosphere of Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings, describing the current environment as more amicable.
In January of this year, the NDC reversed its decision to abstain from IPAC meetings, marking a return to constructive engagement.
IPAC meetings provide a platform for political parties to review election-related activities, voice grievances, and contribute constructively.
The committee also serves as an advisory body to the Electoral Commission (EC).
In 2021, the NDC boycotted IPAC meetings, citing concerns about the EC’s alleged bias in favor of the New Patriotic Party during the 2020 general elections.
“It was very cordial. Don’t forget this year happens to be the third IPAC meeting that we attended. The first IPAC meeting was on 22nd February 2024. The second was on 29th February, and 7th March. So it’s been cordial since we returned to IPAC.”
“…It appears they have changed…It is not very cordial, very lovely. Not acrimonious. It is like the IPAC we used to know. That is consensus-building,” he stated.

The news of Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang’s retention was announed after the Council of Elders gathered on Thursday, March 7, 2024, to deliberate on the running mate nominee presented by Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama.

Deputy Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale has alleged that president Akufo-Addo’s nephew, Paul Danquah, who was the first son to the late J.B Danquah was known indulging in homosexual activities.
According to him, Paul Danquah got married to an English steel heir, Peter Pallock and they lived together in the United Kingdom (UK).
“Akufo-Addo should have known better than the 2 of us, he stayed and grew up with the homosexuals. Mr Akufo -Addo grew up with the first son of his uncle J.B Danquah who was called Paul Danquah. Paul Danquah was a renowned homosexual who got married to Peter Pallock. They lived together and the entire world knew that Akufo-Addo’s nephew was homosexual,” he added.
This revelation comes in response to Akufo-Addo’s reluctance to the anti-gay bill passed by parliament on Wednesday February 26, 2024.
In defense of his delay to assenting the bill, president Akufo-Addo has stated that certain individuals have dragged parliament to the Supreme Court over the passage of the bill.
The president emphasised that he will make a decision after the court has given a verdict regarding the lawsuit.
In contrast, the Deputy Communications Officer for the NDC believes that Akufo-Addo has ulterior motives rather than waiting on the Supreme Court.
He added ” So I think that if there is a man to know more about homosexuality like Akufo-Addo stated in the Aljazeera interview that growing up in the UK he saw people virtually advocating for it and what have you . There was cause for action and that is why he is waiting to see the same in this country”.
The anti-LGBT+ Bill currently criminalizes and proscribes LGBT activities, along with their promotion, advocacy, and funding.
Offenders face penalties of six months to a three-year jail term, while promoters and sponsors could be sentenced to three to five years in prison.
