  • Accusations suggesting I tried engaging in dual voter registration is entirely false – Richard Ahiagbah

Accusations suggesting I tried engaging in dual voter registration is entirely false – Richard Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has refuted allegations of attempting dual voter registration during the Limited Voter Registration Exercise.

He categorically dismissed the reports as baseless and unfounded.

Tensions flared at a Ketu South electoral registration center on Saturday, May 11, 2024, as Ahiagbah sought to enroll on the electoral roll.

According to accounts, the processing of his application was halted following objections raised by officials representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NDC representatives asserted that Ahiagbah, having participated in the 2020 election, would be in violation of electoral laws if allowed to register again.

In a statement released Mr Ahiagbah countered the allegations, stating, “I have seen some videos on social media by NDC operatives to misinform Ghanaians. The claim that I tried to do double registration is false and without merit.

    Here is what happened:

    1. I have registered and voted in Ketu South since 2000, and my citizenship and sonship of Ketu South are well-known to the NDC agent who challenged my eligibility today.
    2. In 2020, I received a voter’s ID for the 2020 general elections from the Electoral Commission. However, during the 2023 limited voter registration exercise, my biometrics failed to register, and I’ve since discovered that many others have had the same issue.
    3. I tried to rectify this administrative error during the 2023 limited voter registration exercise, but the EC officials advised me to seek inclusion later or get a new voter’s ID card during the 2024 limited voter registration window.
    4. Today, I went to the registration center where I registered in 2020 to fix the EC’s administrative error, but I was met with a frivolous and obstructive challenge to my eligibility.
    5. Despite my attempts to advise the NDC challenger to stop obstructing the registration process, both the NDC agents and EC officials paid no attention.
    6. This challenge is a sign of more disruptive acts to come. Therefore, I urge the EC to take a firm and decisive stance to deal with these tendencies and ensure peace.
    7. I am committed to going through all the necessary processes to get my name on the register, exercise my democratic right to vote, and support the New Patriotic Party on December 7th.

    Thank you.

Chaos erupts as Richard Ahiagbah allegedly attempts to register for voter ID at Ketu South EC centre

Chaos erupted at the Ketu South electoral registration center on Saturday, May 11, 2024, as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, arrived to register as a voter.

Reports indicate that the processing of Ahiagbah’s details was halted following objections raised by officials from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

NDC agents argued that Mr Ahiagbah had voted in the 2020 election, potentially leading to double registration if his application proceeded.

A video of the incident depicts a chaotic scene at the registration center, with NDC agents questioning Ahiagbah’s eligibility to vote.

Initially calm, the video later shows NPP executives expressing frustration to a police officer present at the scene.

Meanwhile, purported evidence suggests that Ahiagbah participated in the 2020 election, although his name was not printed on the voter roll.

A photo of the voter register from the election shows Ahiagbah’s details handwritten at the bottom by an electoral official before he cast his vote.

In response, the opposition NDC is calling for Ahiagbah’s arrest for alleged double registration.

Malik Basintale, NDC’s Deputy National Communication Officer, urged the Ghana Police Service to arrest Ahiagbah immediately, warning against attempts to rig the elections.

“We will not tolerate this attempt by the NPP to use dubious means to steal the mandate of Ghanaians in the December 7 elections. We have the challenge form with us, and we are calling on the Ghana Police Service to arrest him immediately. If they fail to do so, we will initiate a citizen’s arrest,” he said.

“We will not stand by and watch the NPP engage in illegal activities to rig the elections,” Basintale warned.

“We will do everything within our power to ensure that the will of the people is respected,” he told News Night Anchor Michael Addo on Metro TV.

Are you waiting to be voted out before you make things right? – Bridget Otoo to NPP on cedi depreciation

Ghanaian journalist, Bridget , has expressed grave concern about the escalating exchange rates.

Through the X platform, Bridget Otoo conveyed her unease regarding the servicing of external debts, emphasizing at a lack of proactive measures from the government.

She pondered whether the Akufo-Addo-led administration intentionally deferred debt servicing until after elections—a decision she deemed perplexing and detrimental.

“Eiiii $1=15? We are not Paying out external debts oooooo Is it that this incompetent government has decided not to service it till they are voted out? …. It makes zero sense,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, a renowned financial and media entity, Bloomberg, has foreseen a further depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi by the conclusion of 2024.

The projected rate stands at GH¢15.98 against the dollar.

Data from the Ghana Association of Forex Bureaux reveals a depreciation exceeding 14% since the year’s commencement.

Presently, the dollar is traded at GH¢14.75 in retail markets.

On a global scale, Bloomberg highlighted the cedi‘s prolonged weakness against major currencies, marking its lengthiest period of decline in 22 trading sessions, as per Bloomberg’s records dating back to 1994.

The methodology employed by Bloomberg for cedi projection relies on forward pricing, determined by spot rates and interest rate disparities between the two currencies.

Bloomberg attributed the dwindling dollar supply to a decline in cocoa revenue, with exports plummeting by almost a third to $508 million in the initial months of the year due to adverse weather conditions, diseases, and fertilizer shortages.

EC is like other institutions, it is not immune to challenges – NPP to NDC

A member of the National Communication Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Saaka Salia, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of habitually criticizing the Electoral Commission (EC) over minor matters.

Mr. Salia emphasized that the EC, like any institution, faces challenges and is not immune to them.

He referenced the ongoing limited voter registration exercise, where the NDC instructed its party agents to document the serial numbers of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits.

In response, the EC declined the NDC’s request, citing security concerns.

The NDC Chairman, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, instructed party agents to record the serial numbers of replaced BVR kits during registration.

“Our agents also have our firm instructions that if BVR kits malfunction and are replaced during registration, they should duly record the serial numbers of the new BVR kits and the date and time of use,”he added.

However, Saaka Salia, speaking on TV3’s New Day, defended the EC, suggesting that the NDC’s criticisms aim to discredit the Commission intentionally.

Regarding technical challenges, the EC directed its District Officers to switch to offline mode to expedite the registration process. They assured stakeholders that if there’s a backlog of voters, the registration period will be extended beyond the May 27 deadline.

Salia acknowledged the EC’s efforts to address challenges and improve the registration process, attributing some issues to factors beyond the Commission’s control, such as internet connectivity problems. He criticized the NDC for consistently attacking the EC, even over trivial matters.

NPP man reportedly assaulted with machete at Cape Coast during voter registration exercise

During the ongoing limited voter registration drive in Cape Coast North, the Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justice Agyemang, has been viciously assaulted, sustaining head injuries from a machete attack.

According to a report on onuaonline.com, the assault on Agyemang was allegedly perpetrated by Eric Sampson, also known as Bullet, purportedly the bodyguard of Samuel Kwamena Mintah, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North.

The chaos erupted at the registration center when individuals seeking to register were reportedly hindered, with suspicions that they were brought from other areas to the venue.

This led to a confrontation between the MP’s team and members of the NPP.

Reports suggest that at one point, the machete used to injure the NPP official was in the possession of the MP’s bodyguard.

Following the violent incident, bystanders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The Electoral Commission’s limited registration initiative, which commenced on May 7, aims to register eligible Ghanaians who have reached the age of 18. The registration process is scheduled to conclude on May 27.

Oppong-Nkrumah would have been my choice for running mate if I were Bawumia – Barker-Vormawor

Private legal practitioner and activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has weighed in on the selection of a running mate for New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, offering his perspective on the matter.

In his assessment, Barker-Vormawor suggested that if he were in Dr. Bawumia’s position, he would consider appointing the Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, as his running mate for the upcoming general elections.

He indicated a desire to steer clear of individuals who have been publicly discussed as potential candidates, prioritizing personal peace of mind in the decision-making process.

Mr Barker-Vormawor highlighted Oppong Nkrumah’s stature in the country and political achievements as factors that make him a suitable candidate for the role.

“If I were Bawumia, I would choose Konkrumah [Oppong Nkrumah] as my running mate. Stay as far away as possible from the other names,” he posted on his X page.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia is currently in the process of selecting his running mate to join him on the NPP ticket for the 2024 general elections.

Speculation abounds regarding potential contenders for the role, including Minister of Energy, Matthew Opoku Prempeh; Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Opare; and Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, among others.

As the election draws nearer, the decision on Dr. Bawumia’s running mate remains pending.

Let’s go back to ‘dumsor’, ‘dumsiesie’ is not the best – GJA President

The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) is calling for a structured load management timetable to help businesses plan effectively amid ongoing power challenges.

GJA President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfuor, expressed preference for the term “Dumsor” over “Dumsiesie” in describing the erratic power outages, emphasizing that “Dumsor” at least came with a schedule.

Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Thursday, May 9, 2024, Dwumfuor highlighted the detrimental effects of power disruptions on media operations, stressing the need for consistency to fulfill their role as informers and facilitators of governance.

“You can’t say that it is ‘dumsiesie’; what is ‘dumsiesie’? We would be better off with ‘dumsor’ than ‘dumsiesie’ because ‘dumsor’ comes with a schedule. My people from the media sector will actually appreciate it. This is affecting equipment; this is affecting transmission time. Assuming that you don’t have the capacity to purchase industrial generators, automatic switches, and all that, you’ll just be there, and you’ll go off air.

“How do you serve the people? We serve as a bridge between the governed and the governor, and so as the bridge, we are supposed to be informing people with policies, and if we go off, break down, or if we are unable to discharge that duty, we will be doing a great disservice to this nation, and it will affect our democracy,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of informing the public about policies and issues, which becomes challenging when power outages disrupt broadcasting schedules and transmission times.

Despite President Akufo-Addo’s announcement of resolving the power crisis during the May Day celebration, many parts of the country continue to experience inconsistent power supply.

  • We can’t take advice from someone who has engaged in several scandals as you – NPP to Mahama

We can’t take advice from someone who has engaged in several scandals as you – NPP to Mahama

A Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu-Bempah, has rebuked former President John Dramani Mahama’s critique of the Akufo-Addo administration’s handling of corruption issues, asserting that Mahama lacks moral authority in such matters.

Mr Owusu-Bempah’s remarks came in response to Mahama’s characterization of him as “corrupt” and his administration as marred by numerous scandals.

Mahama had criticized the Akufo-Addo government for the closure of Ghana’s Millennium Challenge Compact by the United States, deeming it unacceptable and pledging to enhance private sector efficiency in the electricity distribution system.

In a post on his X platform, he said “It’s disheartening to learn that the $190 million we negotiated for private sector participation in electricity distribution under the US Millennium Compact has been lost due to Nana Addo and Bawumia’s corrupt, ‘yenkyendi’, and cronyistic governance practices. This is unacceptable, and we deserve better as a people.

“As I gear up to assume the presidency in January 2025, thanks to your votes and endorsement in this year’s election, I want to assure you that I will work diligently to enhance private sector efficiency in the electricity distribution system, including metering, revenue management, and fault response.”

Mr Owusu-Bempah emphasized that Mahama’s tenure was marked by a culture of corruption, citing various instances of financial impropriety and mismanagement.

“Power doesn’t get much more entrusted than that. His regime was buffered by several corruption scandals that cost the state huge sums of money in lost revenue and, some cases embarrassed the country.

“Mahama supervised a corrosive culture of corruption. Talk of the bus branding corruption, where investigations into the branding of 116 Metro Mass Transit Buses involving Ghc3.6million revealed that the company contracted, Smarthys, over-billed the government to the tune of Ghc1.9million.

“The owner of the company, who later returned Ghc 1.548,608.04 to the government chest happened to be a close associate of Mahama. Again, the GYEEDA scandal which cost the state millions of cedis. There was also the SADA corruption, where over Ghc32million paid to ACICL to plant five million trees in the Savannah zone were never accounted for.”

    Below is his full statement…

We will take morality and corruption advise from anywhere but certainly not Mahama’s brothel
    —————

Guys, what would you say if Osama Bin Laden called someone a “terrorist”, if a prostitute called another woman a “whore”, or if North Korean’s Kim Jong Un called another leader a “dictator?” No doubt you would probable die laughing at the irony. Yet we in Ghana have tolerated a character that epitomizes irony to the extent that his utterances have now gone beyond the pale.

It all began in late 2007 when the then NDC flagbearer, Prof John Atta-Mills asked him to be on the ticket with him for the 2008 presidential elections.

Well, it came to pass that Mills won and that was the beginning of a different brand of political corruption spearheaded by John Mahama.

President Mills couldn’t finish his term of office and the baton was handed over to John Mahama. When this corrupt politician took over an unplanned leadership of the country, corruption blossomed like never before.

The long view of history will count a broader catalogue of corruption under Mahama’s presidency.

Power doesn’t get much more entrusted than that. His regime was buffered by several corruption scandals that cost the state huge sums of money in lost revenue and, some cases embarrassed the country.

Mahama supervised a corrosive culture of corruption. Talk of the bus branding corruption, where investigations into the branding of 116 Metro Mass Transit Buses involving Ghc3.6million revealed that the company contracted, Smarthys, over-billed the government to the tune of Ghc1.9million.

The owner of the company, who later returned Ghc 1.548,608.04 to the government chest happened to be a close associate of Mahama.

Again, the GYEEDA scandal which cost the state millions of cedis. There was also the SADA corruption, where over Ghc32million paid to ACICL to plant five million trees in the Savannah zone were never accounted for.

The same SADA report found out that SADA spent Ghc 15million on guinea fowls, but could only account for a few birds.

There was also a bribery scandal involving Mahama and a Burkinabe businessman,Djibril Kanazoe who was said to have won two major contracts worth over Ghc 100million.

In fact, the recent court ruling where two former Mahama appointees were found guilty on 78 counts relating to causing financial loss to the state, theft, conspiracy to steal, money laundering, and contravening public procurement laws, and we’re jailed 10 and 5 years respectively speaks volume.

And so, what exactly was Mahama up to when he talks about the fact that he will not protect Akufo-Addo’s legacy of Corruption and Misgovernance?

I fear lots of Ghanaians still labour under the delusion that Mahama is an option, but there comes a time in a nation’s journey to prosperity when distractions must not be tolerated, when we stand up and look the devil in the eyes and say there’s no place here for you.

Mahama can’t talk about corruption because the man himself is an embodiment of corruption.

I want to position Ghana as the first in Africa to embrace blockchain-powered governance – Bawumia

With the escalating integration of digitalization into both governmental services and daily life, along with intentions to implement the utmost levels of data security within these services, Ghana is swiftly progressing towards becoming the premier blockchain-powered government in Africa and among the select few globally, as announced by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

“We are going to adopt blockchain technology for government to ensure that all data and transactions in the Government space are transparent and tamper-proof, no one can change them, and so ours could well become the first blockchain-powered government in Africa” the Vice President stated in Accra on Thursday, 9th May, 2024.

Speaking in Accra on Thursday, May 9, 2024, Dr. Bawumia outlined a brighter, more secure digital future for Ghana during his keynote address at the 14th Commonwealth Regional Conference and Annual General Meeting of Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa.

The conference, attended by representatives from 20 African countries and global anti-corruption bodies, serves as a testament to Ghana’s commitment to combatting corruption through digital means.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted significant achievements in Ghana’s digitalization journey, noting that nearly all government agencies (1507 out of 1517) have been integrated into the Ghana.gov digital platform.

This platform enables electronic access to almost all government services, with electronic payments replacing cash transactions.

Notably, Ghana.gov has already collected GHC 201 billion for the government, significantly reducing revenue leakages caused by corruption.

Moving forward, Ghana aims to integrate databases through the X-Road Integration infrastructure, similar to Estonia, and implement blockchain technology across all government sectors.

This blockchain integration ensures the rapid and immutable identification of data modifications, effectively blocking corruption and enabling the tracking and tracing of all government transactions.

Vice President Bawumia emphasized the devastating impact of corruption on Africa, estimating losses of at least one trillion US dollars ($1 trillion) over the past five years. To combat this scourge, he urged African governments to invest in digital tools, including digital forensics, to disrupt corruption networks and enhance anti-corruption efforts.

In Ghana, digitalization of public service processes, reduction of human interface, and digital payment systems have already reduced opportunities for bribery and revenue leakages. By further implementing digital platforms and systems, Ghana aims to disrupt corruption networks and curb poverty and underdevelopment in Africa.

Dr. Bawumia concluded by urging collective action to leverage digital tools to track, trace, and disrupt the entire corruption value chain, thereby providing the continent with a fighting chance against corruption in all its forms.

Gabby wants me arrested because I am a threat to NPP – Hopeson Adorye

A former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hopeson Adorye, has made accusations against Gabby Otchere-Darko, a prominent figure within the party, suggesting that efforts are being made to have him arrested.

Speaking to Onua TV, Mr Adorye asserted that Gabby Otchere-Darko is pushing for his arrest due to what he perceives as a threat on the party.

Mr Adorye claimed that Otchere-Darko has reached out to the National Security Coordinator in an attempt to gather evidence against him.

However, Mr Adorye stated that the supposed reason for his arrest, as conveyed by the National Security Coordinator, is the unauthorized use of a siren on his vehicle.

He further alleged that Otchere-Darko explicitly instructed security officials to apprehend him as soon as he begins to move his car.

“An intel I have gathered about Gabby Otchere-Darko is that he called the National Security Coordinator to find something against me because I am disgracing the party. And the person said I am guilty of nothing but just the siren on top of my vehicle. Gabby asked them to use that against me. He instructed them to arrest me when I move my car,” he added.

MP for Asuogyaman allegedly stops NPP members from participating in ongoing limited voter registration

The NDC Member of Parliament for the Asuogyaman Constituency, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, led a violent mob into Akosombo, aiming to break into a house and assault a group of young men and women whom he labeled as “foreigners” and barred from registering in the Asuogyaman constituency.

Ampem Nyarko reportedly incited his hooligans with orders like “Break the door, beat them, kill them,” prompting them to forcefully enter the houses and attack the occupants, including young women.

The NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Hon. Pius Enam Hadzide, had provided accommodation for some party agents and operatives, as well as seven individuals who were unable to complete the registration process due to delays.

These individuals hailed from distant areas within the constituency, and Hadzide justified the arrangement as both practical and cost-effective, particularly for young first-time voters.

Perceiving the occupants as registrants brought in from the Volta region, Ampem Nyarko launched into a tirade against Ewes, labeling them as “foreigners” ineligible to register in Asuogyaman.

This sparked criticism from the NPP, accusing Ampem of ingratitude and hypocrisy, given his past reliance on Ewe votes.

Residents expressed strong disapproval of the unruly behavior exhibited by the NDC hooligans and their MP, condemning it as unfitting for a member of parliament.

Ghanaians do not have amnesia; we still remember how you poorly performed as president – Mike Oquaye Jnr to Mahama

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, Mike Oquaye Jnr., has warned that Ghanaians could rue their decision if they elect John Dramani Mahama as president once more.

According to him, Mahama lacks innovative ideas for Ghana’s progress.

During an interview on NEAT FM’s ‘Ghana Montie’ morning show, Oquaye Jnr. emphasized Mahama’s previous dismissal of Ghanaians as having short memories.

He urged voters to recall why they rejected Mahama before.

Oquaye Jnr. also criticized Mahama’s campaign promises, questioning their substance.

He particularly questioned Mahama’s commitment to the national football team, citing his past tenure’s purported neglect of the Black Stars.

“Ghanaians must remember the kind of person he [Mahama] is and why we voted against him,” he said.

Mike Oquaye Jnr. further questioned “what Mahama is coming back to do” with his chain of promises to lure voters.

“It’s surprising for Mahama to say he will revamp the Black Stars if he returns to power. What did he do for the Black Stars when he was in power?” he questioned.”

Akufo-Addo owes Ghanaians an apology for messing up the economy – Nii Lante Vanderpuye

Member of Parliament (MP) for Odododiodoo, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has criticized President Akufo-Addo’s management of national affairs, suggesting that an apology to Ghanaians might be warranted due to perceived failure in addressing the populace’s needs, resulting in widespread hardship.

Mr Vanderpuye’s comments were prompted by President Akufo-Addo’s call for Ghanaians to reject the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer in the upcoming December elections, arguing that such a move would jeopardize the progress achieved under his administration and endanger the nation’s future.

However, speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Vanderpuye expressed his belief that President Akufo-Addo’s tenure would be remembered as one of disappointment, possibly making him the worst president in the country’s history.

“…If I were Nana Addo, the best thing I would do as a person is to apologise to the millions of Ghanaians who voted for me and whom I have hugely disappointed. Nana Addo will go into history as the worst president ever in the fourth republic of this country. Worst President ever because he is the most corrupt president in our history.”

“He is the one who has collapsed our economy. Ghana’s economy today is worse than at any time in our history. Is that the legacy he is talking about? Of course, John Mahama will come and correct all,” he stated.

Our processes towards 2024 election are lawful – EC to NDC

The Electoral Commission’s (EC) Director of Electoral Services, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, has affirmed the Commission’s unwavering stance amidst escalating skepticism surrounding its preparations for the 2024 general elections.

Despite persistent concerns expressed by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding potential bias in favor of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Quaicoe reiterated the EC’s dedication to impartiality.

The NDC has consistently questioned the neutrality of EC officials and raised apprehensions about potential compromises during the electoral process.

Referencing the recent Ejisu by-election, where Kwadaso MP Dr. Kingsley Nyarko was allegedly captured on video offering a white envelope to EC officials, which was perceived as a bribe, the NDC highlighted their apprehensions regarding electoral integrity.

However, in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Face to Face on Citi TV, Dr. Quaicoe assured that the commission is strictly adhering to legal mandates in executing its duties, asserting that their actions will withstand scrutiny over time.

He likened the NDC’s concerns to pre-match criticism of a football referee, suggesting that this might serve as a strategy to keep the EC vigilant.

Reflecting on the Ejisu elections, surrounded by numerous conspiracy theories, which concluded with all candidates commending the EC, Dr. Quaicoe emphasized the importance of focusing on righteousness and being vindicated by adhering to the law.

He recalled the tenure of Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, former EC Boss, who served for 23 years despite controversies surrounding the 1992 elections.

Dr. Quaicoe stressed the significance of maintaining a clear conscience, expressing confidence in the righteousness of the EC’s actions and highlighting the inevitability of criticism in the electoral process.

“When we were going to Ejisu, there were a lot of conspiracy theories, but when we finished, all the candidates were patting us on the back. We don’t pay much attention to comments like that, because once you know you’re doing what is right, go ahead and do it, you will be vindicated by going by the law.”

He reflected on the tenure of Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, former EC Boss, who was appointed as a chair in 1992 and served for 23 years despite numerous issues surrounding the 1992 elections.

“Since 1992, when Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan [former EC Boss] was appointed as a chair, he was part of those who conducted the 1992 elections and there were a lot of issues about that. But he was there for about 23 years. So, some of these things, complaints will come, but you should focus and do what is right. Posterity will judge all of us. I always say that you should be clear in your conscience.

“Once your conscience clears you, God has cleared you, that is our philosophy, so we’re doing what is right. And I know and hope they know what we’re doing is right. But in an election, it’s like going to play a football match, you take on the referee. So that the referee will sit up and say that even when we have not started, they are criticising me.

“Maybe it could be a strategy they are adopting. Once you know what you are doing is right, you know posterity will judge you. We’re not agitated at all.”

  • Depreciation of cedi has been lower under NPP than NDC – Bawumia

Depreciation of cedi has been lower under NPP than NDC – Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has contended that the depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar has improved compared to its performance during the previous John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

In an interview with AfricaWatch, Dr. Bawumia emphasizes the relative stability of the cedi against the US dollar during President Akufo-Addo’s tenure.

Despite economic challenges, Dr. Bawumia asserts sustained cedi depreciation has been manageable.

Citing data, Dr. Bawumia compares cedi depreciation between NPP and NDC administrations, noting lower depreciation rates under NPP.

Defending his previous statement on weak NDC fundamentals, Dr. Bawumia links recent economic challenges to global crises and domestic factors.

Ghana faces economic turmoil, defaulting on external debt payments totaling $30 billion in 2022.

With limited access to international capital markets, Ghana resorts to domestic treasury bills for borrowing.

Under the 17th IMF bailout program, Ghana reaches a staff-level agreement for a third installment of $360 million.

“Why not? We use averages to measure progress in statistics and economics all the time. It is a valid comparison of the management of the exchange rate under our government versus under the NDC government. The point is that notwithstanding the major global and domestic challenges we have been through, it is remarkable that whereas the exchange-rate depreciation between 2009-2016 averaged 13.9%, between 2017-2023 it averaged 13.1%. That is a fact,” Dr Bawumia stated.

He continued, “The data shows that from 2009-2016, the cedi depreciated cumulatively by 71.1%, and between 2017 and 2023, the cumulative depreciation was 64.6%. So, whether you look at the average or the cumulative, the depreciation of the cedi has been lower under our government, notwithstanding the severe global shocks we have endured. That is the basic truth.”

“Absolutely! It is still true, and I will continue to stand by that statement. We saw that between 2017 and 2021 when the fundamentals in terms of the fiscal deficit, inflation, GDP growth, external balances, and international reserves were fairly strong, the exchange rate was relatively stable.

“But following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war, the banking-sector crisis, the excess-capacity energy payments, and the lack of access to international capital markets, the fundamentals of the economy were weakened, and the fiscal deficit and debt levels increased,” he explained.

  • NPP will collapse if I start exposing its leaders – Hopeson Adorye

A suspended member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, has asserted that he could dismantle the party alone if its communicators persist in tarnishing his reputation.

In an interview with NEAT FM’s afternoon show Mr Adorye expressed deep dismay over the circumstances surrounding his suspension, maintaining that the NPP has shown ingratitude towards him.

Despite harboring bitterness, Adorye refrains from speaking out, yet he laments being subjected to insults and baseless accusations by NPP communicators.

Mr Adorye disclosed his dismissal from his role at the Kotoka International Airport, alleging a conspiracy to oust him orchestrated by Nana Asante Bediatu’s wife.

He issues a cautionary note, warning the NPP to tread carefully, as his potential exposé of the party’s leadership could spell trouble for them.

“I have so much bitterness in me, but I decided not to talk, yet these people [NPP communicators] are going around insulting me and accusing me wrongly”.

“My job was given to Nana Asante Bediatu’s wife; they planned to remove me from the office”.

Mr. Adorye said, “I am not a fool to be treated that way in a party I have served.”

He added, “NPP should be very careful because if I start exposing what the leaders are doing, they will be in trouble. It’s a warning.”

Exercise vigilance to ensure free, fair and transparent 2024 elections – Political parties told

Political analyst Emmanuel Alex Nti has urged political parties to implement measures to prevent any form of rigging in the upcoming general elections.

He emphasized that while the Electoral Commission (EC) is mandated by law to organize free, fair, and transparent elections, political parties should also adopt strategies to avert electoral misconduct and manipulation.

Nti referred to footage allegedly showing count-jumping by some EC officials during the Ejisu by-election, calling for an investigation to verify its authenticity.

Speaking on ‘Nyankonton Mu Nsem’ on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stressed that political parties must be thoroughly prepared for the upcoming polls to avoid being caught off guard.

“We have witnessed incidents in the past that almost compromised the integrity and credibility of our elections; therefore, the parties must exercise vigilance,” he stated.

Mr Nti further emphasized the importance of political parties remaining alert to prevent manipulation of electoral processes, which could lead to violent incidents similar to those observed during the Ayawaso West Wuogon election.

“I have seen footage where an electoral official was jumping figures. I stand to be corrected, and with the advent of technology, videos can be manipulated; however, if this is indeed true, it is regrettable.

“I urge political parties to stay vigilant. Such tactics are perilous and could undermine the credibility of our elections,” he remarked.

He cited the strategy employed by the NPP during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, which involved physical assaults, and noted its recurrence in 2020.

“If an electoral official can jump figures from 27 to 30, this approach could be replicated across different polling stations, as evidenced during the Ayawaso West Wuogon polls,” he warned.

“The political parties must remain vigilant. It’s possible that the official simply made an honest error. Hence, the EC should appoint officials who are not only competent and qualified but also possess a fundamental understanding of mathematics. They should hire individuals who are literate and capable of performing basic mathematical computations,” he concluded.

God’s grace and hard work has brought me this far – Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has acknowledged the role of divine grace in his life and encourages all to embrace the possibilities it offers in their own lives.

Addressing clergy members of the Ahafo Region in Goaso on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Dr. Bawumia recounted his journey, attributing his current positions as Vice President of Ghana and NPP flagbearer to divine intervention.

“My father was not wealthy during my upbringing. Reflecting on my life—the times I worked on a farm in Tamale to earn extra money as a child, drove taxis in the UK to support my education, and cleaned dormitories in Canada for sustenance as a student—I am convinced that my ascent to Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP is solely by God’s grace,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He continued, “The path my life has taken convinces me that God’s grace and favour are attainable for anyone, no matter their origin.”

Reflecting on his humble beginnings, including working on a farm in Tamale as a child, driving taxis in the UK to support his education, and cleaning dormitories in Canada while studying, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that his achievements are solely due to God’s grace.

“For instance, before my election as the NPP’s flagbearer, many publicly claimed it was impossible for the NPP to elect me as its leader due to my background. But my faith in God’s grace led me to declare, ‘It is possible.’”

“Now, some say it is not possible for me to be elected President. Once again, I affirm, by God’s grace, ‘It is possible.’”

“I selected ‘It is possible’ as my campaign slogan because it embodies the vast grace of God to make the impossible, possible.”

NPP bussing minors, strangers to partake in voter registration exercise – NDC alleges

Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savelugu constituency of the Northern region are cautioning the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) against an alleged plan to deploy individuals known for their physical prowess to incite unrest in the area ahead of the upcoming limited registration exercise.

The exercise which is organized by the Electoral Commission (EC), commenced today, Tuesday, May 7, 2024 with the aim of registering new voters nationwide.

However, this impending constitutional process is already causing tensions in several areas of the Northern region, including the Savelugu constituency.

During a press conference held on Monday, May 6th, 2024, in Savelugu, the NDC’s communication officer for the constituency, Abass Abdul Rahaman, asserted that the NPP allegedly intends to deploy individuals with a reputation for physical intimidation to disrupt the registration process and sow discord in the area for their own political gain.

“Akufo-Addo who happens to be a caretaker and of course his driver mate as a result of their extreme eagerness and anxious to overturn the fortunes of Ghana, even the NPP party has been changed into Nana Addo’s party, no wonder they have found themselves in that difficult stage. Ladies and gentlemen it is equally important to note that until 2020 election this constituency has never recorded  even an aorta of death of even a non living  organism let alone a young enterprising visionary girl who came to watch for purposes of democracy and the purpose of the beauty of election she eventually died in a bizarre manner is quite disheartening,” he stated.

Mr Rahaman claimed that information obtained by the NDC in the Savelugu constituency suggests that the ruling party plans to transport individuals, including minors, from the Tamale Central constituency to register them in Savelugu, thereby tilting the electoral advantage in favor of the NPP in the upcoming December elections.

“Let me equally put it, however, it becomes a matter of sad and heavily political discourse hearing and picking up signals purported to be planned out by some unscrupulous members of the NPP in this particular constituency. Ladies and gentlemen attempts have been advanced so far within the NPP fraternity to bus people all the way from Tamale most especially from Zozeli area with the mindset that they are busing them to get them registered in this impending limited registration exercise,” he added.

He emphasized that the NDC is prepared to respond with equal force if the NPP attempts to intimidate their supporters from participating in the registration process.

Mr Rahaman urged the Electoral Commission, Ghana Police Service, the traditional leader of the Savelugu Traditional Area, His the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), Highness Yoo-Naa Andani Yakubu Abdulai, and other relevant authorities to intervene and prevent the NPP from disrupting the peace and stability in the area.

Participate in the limited voter registration to make your vote count – Bawumia

The Vice President of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged everyone to register for the electoral roll to participate in the 2024 general elections.

The Electoral Commission (EC) will kickstart the limited voter registration exercise on Tuesday, May 7, in preparation for the December 7 general elections.

Running for 21 days until Monday, May 27, 2024, the exercise targets individuals who have reached the age of 18 since the last registration, aiming to include them in the national voter database.

The EC plans to conduct the exercise at its district offices and in remote electoral areas to ensure accessibility.

In a message on his platform, Dr. Bawumia encourages citizens to register promptly to ensure their voices are heard in December. He emphasizes the importance of active participation in shaping Ghana’s future through the electoral process.

“Permanent centres will be set up at the District offices while mobile teams would be used to register eligible applicants in the difficult to access Electoral Areas. The list of registration centres will be provided to the Political Parties no later than twenty-one (21) days to the Registration exercise,” the EC noted.

In a post on is X platform, Dr Bawumia said “Make your vote count in December. Kindly register now and help better Ghana with bold solutions for our future. It is possible!”

NHIS functioning efficiently under NPP govt than during Mahama’s tenure – Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, asserts that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has seen notable improvements during the Akufo-Addo administration.

In an interview with Africa Watch Magazine, Dr. Bawumia commended the strides made in the health sector’s infrastructure under the current government.

He highlighted the expansion of NHIS coverage, specifically mentioning the inclusion of treatments for childhood cancers and hydroxyurea for sickle-cell patients.

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia discussed the government’s introduction of an NHIS app, which enables Ghanaians to register and enroll using their Ghanacard.

“The NHIS is working better under our government than it used to be. Besides resourcing it financially, we have also digitized it and linked it to the Ghana card.

“So today, your NHIS number is your Ghanacard number. We have also extended NHIS coverage to include childhood cancers and hydroxyurea for sickle-cell patients. We have also introduced an NHIS app, so today people can register and get enrolled using their Ghanacard.

“They can also renew their subscription and check the list of diseases that the NHIS covers, without travelling to any NHIS office.

He stressed, “Second, to make health care easily accessible across the country, we have overseen the connection of health facilities under the Ghana Health Service to one digital platform. So far, all teaching hospitals and all regional and district hospitals have been connected and can talk to each other. The goal is to network over 90% of all hospitals in Ghana by the end of next year.”

He pledged to allocate funds towards the enhancement of healthcare infrastructure, especially in marginalized rural regions.

“My government will invest in expanding healthcare infrastructure, particularly in underserved rural areas, to ensure equitable access to quality services. My government will also implement targeted initiatives to address healthcare disparities among vulnerable populations, including women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

I have plans of establishing a new group – Hopeson Adorye

Hopeson Adorye, a prominent figure within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and now serving as Director of Special Duties for Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change, has unveiled plans to launch an advocacy entity known as the Jail Them Advocacy Group.

The primary objective of this initiative is to compel the ruling party to hold accountable former NPP officials from the 2025 administration.

Mr Adorye firmly stated that certain ex-NPP officials were embroiled in severe corruption, labeling them as “deeply corrupt” and “government thieves” who exploited their positions for personal enrichment.

While acknowledging his own past appointment by the NPP, Mr Adorye stressed that not all party members were tainted by corruption like those he condemns.

During an interview on the Citizen Show hosted by Nana Otu Darko on Accra 100.5 FM on Thursday, May 2, 2024, Mr Adorye outlined his plans to compile a list of individuals he deems highly corrupt, substantiated by evidence, and present this dossier to the government for legal action.

He underscored the critical need to combat corruption within government to channel resources toward the populace’s development.

Adorye also hinted at a forthcoming apology to former President John Dramani Mahama, suggesting that compared to the present administration, Mahama seemed like “an angel.”

In the event of a change in government, Adorye pledged to ensure that those implicated in corruption during the previous administration faced repercussions.

He claimed to possess comprehensive documentation detailing the alleged misconduct perpetrated by the unnamed individuals during their tenure in government.

NPP’s failure to involve police in Kingsley Nyarko’s bribery allegation worrying – Inusah Fuseini

A former Ranking Member of the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament, Inusah Fuseini, has condemned the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its defense of Professor Kingsley Nyarko amid allegations of bribery involving Electoral Commission (EC) temporary staff during the Ejisu by-election.

In a statement on Thursday, May 2, the NPP MP emphasized the EC’s established reputation for credibility and integrity, stressing the need to preserve these virtues.

During an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on May 2, Mr. Fuseini criticized the NPP’s defense of the MP’s actions, advocating for referral to the police instead.

He argued that such actions contradict democratic principles and exacerbate the monetization of politics.

Mr. Fuseini suggested that the NPP should have reported the MP to the police for investigation rather than defending him.

Regarding Professor Nyarko’s alleged involvement in bribery, Mr. Fuseini stated that it tarnished the Parliamentarian’s office and could warrant sanctions under parliamentary standing orders.

He underscored that the ethics of a Member of Parliament prohibit bringing Parliament into disrepute.

In a viral video from the Ejisu by-election, Dr. Nyarko was seen placing an envelope on the table manned by EC officials, prompting an investigation by the EC, which subsequently withdrew the officials from duty at the Fumesua Pentecost Church Polling Station.

“I think what the NPP should have done was to refer him to the police and not defend him. That is the first step because that goes to the core of our democracy. We are all bemoaning the monetisation of our politics.

“Now there is an attempt to corrupt public officers in the performance of their duties in a public   election.

Akufo-Addo is very vindictive; he does not forgive anyone – UCC Lecturer

A Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, has characterized President Akufo-Addo as a politically divisive figure based on his actions and statements.

Dr. Asante Otchere’s remarks followed statements made by the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ayesu Ntim, expressing the party’s commitment to reconcile with Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, the former Ejisu Member of Parliament and runner-up in Tuesday’s Ejisu by-election.

Mr Ntim emphasized Mr Aduomi’s significance to the NPP and his determination to reintegrate him into the party.

Mr Aduomi, who served three terms as an NPP MP for Ejisu, chose to run as an independent candidate in the by-election due to concerns about the party’s handling of the delegates’ album for constituency executive elections, which he believed compromised fairness and integrity.

Several NPP members, including President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia, accused Aduomi of betrayal and speculated that he had defected to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dr. Asante Otchere, in an interview with Bonohene Baffuor Awuah on the Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM, criticized both President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia for lacking the spirit of reconciliation, essential in politics.

He highlighted the difficulty Aduomi may face in reconciling with the NPP, particularly due to the accusatory statements made by the President and Vice President.

“If you listen to the kind of things the President and the Vice President said about Aduomi, it will be difficult for the former MP to reconcile with the NPP. The Vice President accused him of being an NDC member. That was very bad, just because he had some disagreements with the NPP and decided to contest against the party.

“Post-election, if you listen to what the National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, has said, it is wonderful, quite reconciliatory. But if you listen to the President and Vice President, these are two individuals who are very divisive. The President is also very vindictive; he does not forgive anyone who does anything against him. That is how he is. So, the decision is for Kwabena Owusu Aduomi to make. If he feels that the environment will allow him to project himself in terms of his political career, why not? If not, and since politics is about timing, if you get your timing right, you’ll get your result right.”

Dr. Asante Otchere described them as divisive and noted the President’s reputation for being vindictive, suggesting that he does not easily forgive those who oppose him.

He commended the reconciliatory tone struck by the National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, contrasting it with the divisive rhetoric from the President and Vice President. Dr. Asante Otchere emphasized that the decision ultimately rests with Aduomi, advising him to consider whether the political environment allows for his career advancement and stressing the importance of timing in politics.

NPP may collapse if internal divisions are not resolved before December polls – Ameyaw-Akumfi

A member of the National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has cautioned that the party faces the risk of dissolution if internal divisions persist ahead of the 2024 general elections.

He stressed the imperative of unity among NPP members, expressing apprehension that unresolved internal conflicts could detrimentally affect the party’s electoral fortunes.

His advice follows the decision of the party’s National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, to extend an olive branch to Independent Candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi following the Ejisu by-election.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi endorsed Mr. Ntim’s initiative, suggesting that such reconciliation efforts should have commenced promptly after the party’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

Mr. Aduomi, who had grievances regarding the delegates’ register, defected from the NPP to contest as an Independent Candidate.

He put up a formidable challenge against the NPP’s nominee, Kwabena Boateng, who ultimately emerged victorious in the election.

“I was touched by the statement from our national chairman about his resolve to reach out to Aduomi. I feel these reconciliation efforts could have been done long ago, especially during the aftermath of the presidential and parliamentary elections, but it is not too late. The writing is on the wall. NPP needs to unite or perish.”

Think twice if you’re planning to vote for Mahama – Bawumia’s spokesperson to Ghanaians

An economic adviser and spokesperson for the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Gideon Boako, has urged the citizens of Ghana to decline John Dramani Mahama’s candidacy on December 7, 2024.

He contended that if John Dramani Mahama assumes leadership, he would lack accountability to the people, particularly given his absence from future electoral contests after 2028.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based United Television, Gideon Boako emphasized how Ghanaians witnessed the country’s deterioration under John Dramani Mahama’s previous leadership, even when he faced the 2016 elections.

Mr Boako asserted that if granted the opportunity to lead Ghana in 2025 without the pressure of future elections, Mahama would likely prioritize personal wealth accumulation, leaving the nation in a state of disrepair.

“We all know what John Dramani Mahama did in his first term in government. We were aware of the corruption and how he destroyed Ghana, even when he knew he had another term to be accountable to the people of Ghana. So it is obvious that if John Mahama is given the opportunity, he will not be accountable because he has no election ahead of him. Ghanaians should note this and not vote for John Mahama.

“Bawumia, on the other hand, is aware of the task ahead of him and the fact that he needs to come back to the people for their votes, so he will respect the Ghanaian people and perform his duty with diligence,” he expressed.

Koku Anyidoho’s letter of NDC supporting former Ejisu MP fake – Report

Koku Anyidoho, formerly the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), circulated a correspondence bearing a letterhead purportedly from the party’s National Secretariat.

This two-page letter implied that the NDC provided financial backing to an independent candidate during the April 30 by-election in Ejisu.

The first page contained instructions from General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, purportedly directing the Ashanti Regional branch to support independent candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi.

However, it’s worth noting that the NDC did not nominate a candidate for this election.

Despite the NDC’s dismissal of the letter as fraudulent, labeling it as fake, Anyidoho remains adamant, suggesting that the denial came too late.

He doubled down on his stance, criticizing what he perceives as belated and lackluster professionalism within the party’s headquarters, where he has previously worked.

The difference between the alleged ‘fake’ letter and the authentic NDC letterhead:

    a. Anyidoho’s letter carries the party’s reference number ‘NDC/HQ/26/VOL.2/19,’ which had already been used for an official statement released by Kwetey on March 27.

    b. Anyidoho’s letter includes a ‘Your Ref:’ section, which is absent in known NDC letterheads.

    c. Known NDC letterheads used by Kwetey in formal communications lack postal, telephone, and email details, whereas Anyidoho’s version includes a contact section on the right side of the references.

    d. Official NDC letterheads have dates under the ‘Our reference’ section, formatted as Day, Date, Month, Year. However, Anyidoho’s version lacks the day and positions the date on the right instead of the left side.

    e. In typical party correspondence, the General Secretary’s sign-off includes ‘Fifi Fiavi Kwetey’ followed by ‘General Secretary,’ then ‘National Democratic Congress (NDC).’ Anyidoho’s letter omits the third detail.

    f. Anyidoho’s letter displays irregular formatting for persons listed under ‘cc:’, with the text appearing smaller and squeezed to the bottom compared to the font used throughout the letter.

Vote-buying has become a trend under NPP – Political Analyst

Political analyst, Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere has remarked that the degree of commercialization within the country’s electoral system is more prevalent under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration compared to previous regimes.

Dr. Asante Otchere’s observations follow an incident involving the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kwadaso constituency, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, who was captured on camera distributing a white envelope to two Electoral Commission officials during the Ejisu by-election on Tuesday, April 30.

The circulating video of the NPP MP has sparked widespread criticism and raised concerns about addressing the longstanding issue of commercializing the electoral process.

However, the Electoral Commission, in its initial inquiries into the matter, stated that the envelope’s contents were intended for lunch and not to influence its officials.

“It is just quite unfortunate. This kind of opulence and daylight influence of elections has raised its ugly head more than ever in the regime of the NPP.

“I can say that there is not a single regime that is innocent of this practice but the level at which we are seeing now is just quite unbelieveable and mind-blowing,” Dr. Asante Otchere said on TV3 News 360.

He added, “If Dr. Nyarko had not been caught on video, he wouldn’t have accepted that I gave this envelope to the EC officials to buy water.”

Expressing his dismay, Dr. Asante Otchere remarked, “This kind of lavishness and overt interference in elections has become more prevalent than ever under the NPP regime. While no regime is entirely innocent of such practices, the current extent is simply staggering.”

He continued, “Had Dr. Nyarko not been captured on video, he likely would not have admitted to providing the envelope to the EC officials for refreshments.”

Furthermore, Dr. Asante Otchere pointed out that the government resorts to vote-buying and electoral interference due to the failure of its policies to address the populace’s issues.

“The government’s interventions have not yielded the desired outcomes, prompting it to resort to purchasing votes,” he stressed, suggesting that the resources used to influence voters could instead be invested in projects beneficial to the electorate.

Dr. Asante Otchere strongly criticized the NPP, stating, “It is disgraceful for a party that prides itself on being a democracy torchbearer. In terms of the Fourth Republic, they have regressed significantly and deserve unequivocal condemnation.”

Additionally, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which abstained from the by-election, has declared its intent to pursue Dr. Nyarko’s alleged bribery of EC officials to a logical conclusion.

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his strong conviction that he can make a positive impact on Ghana, with the belief that divine guidance will steer him in this direction.

Expressing these views during a meeting with the clergy in Takoradi on Thursday, May 2, as part of his Western regional campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his faith in God’s utilization of individuals to effect societal change, stating, “I believe that I can do something for Ghana. I believe God uses everybody that he wants to use to change the society…I believe that something good can come from Walewale and if God says that it should come from Walewale it will come from Walewale”.

In addition to highlighting his belief, Dr. Bawumia urged the clergy to intervene and prevent politicians from jeopardizing the nation’s peace for personal political agendas.

Furthermore, the Vice President underscored that his upbringing instilled in him a profound respect for all religions, promising to work closely with the church to tackle the developmental hurdles confronting the nation.

NPP must address voter apathy in Ashanti region – Mussa Dankwa

The Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Mussa Dankwa, has highlighted the prevalent issue of voter apathy in the Ashanti region, known as the stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He pointed out that this was evident during the recent by-election held in the Ejisu constituency within the Ashanti Region. In light of this observation, he urged the NPP to take proactive measures to address this concern.

“NPP must find a way to motivate voters to come out and vote…Apathy is real in the Ashanti region,” Mussa Dankwa said on the Ghana Tonight show on Tuesday, April 30.

In the by-election, the NPP candidate emerged victorious after overcoming competition from five other candidates. These included Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, an independent candidate with NPP connections, Esther Osei from the Convention People’s Party, Beatrice Boakye from the Liberal Party of Ghana, as well as independent candidates Freduah Agyemang Joseph and Attakorah Joseph.

Based on the results announced by the Electoral Commission, Kwabena Boateng secured 55.79% of the total votes cast, while his main contender, Kwabena Aduomi, received 43.24%.

These results were compiled from all 204 polling stations. Kwabena Boateng garnered 27,782 votes, while Kwabena Aduomi received 21,536 votes.

Out of an expected 100,000 eligible voters, a total of 49,780 individuals participated in the by-election.

This electoral event became necessary following the passing of the incumbent MP, Dr. John Kumah, in March, after a brief illness.

Is supporting meals on election day vote-buying? – Kumawu MP

The Member of Parliament for Kumawu constituency in the Ashanti Region, Ernest Yaw Anim, has addressed accusations of vote-buying leveled against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the recently concluded Ejisu by-elections.

He defended the practice of candidates financially supporting their supporters to cover expenses like food and transportation on election day, emphasizing that this is a common practice and not exclusive to the NPP.

Ernest noted that nearly all candidates in the Ejisu by-elections made similar financial provisions for their supporters, yet only the NPP is being criticized by the public.

During an interview with Oyerepa TV, Ernest dismissed allegations that the NPP used money to influence voters in the Ejisu by-elections.

Responding to claims that the NPP purchased victory by heavily investing in the election, Ernest calmly pointed out that spending money during campaigns is a standard practice for all candidates.

He argued that providing financial support for supporters’ food and transportation does not constitute vote-buying, as other candidates did the same.

His comments come in the wake of a video showing Kwadaso MP, Prof Kingsley Nyarko, placing an envelope on a table where Electoral Commission officials were stationed during the Ejisu elections.

The EC later stated that the money was intended for lunch for the officials.

However, some members of the public have rejected this explanation, calling for action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s candidate, Kwabena Boateng, emerged victorious in the Ejisu by-elections, defeating his closest rival, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi.

I will ensure your needs are addressed – Kwabena Boateng tells Ejisu constituents

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has successfully defended the Ejisu parliamentary seat, securing victory for its candidate, Kwabena Boateng.

Following Tuesday’s by-election, Kwabena Boateng garnered 27,782 votes, constituting 55.79% of the total votes cast.

His closest rival, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former Member of Parliament for the area who contested as an independent candidate, obtained 21,536 votes, representing 43.24% of the total votes.

The overall voter turnout stood at 49.1%.

The by-election was necessitated by the demise of the Member of Parliament for the constituency and Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, on March 7, 2024.

In his victory speech following the Ejisu by-election, Mr. Boateng reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity within the constituency. He also pledged to ensure that Ejisu receives its equitable share of development.

“Development comes from the government. It is the government that provides the resources for development and it is that same government presenting me; I came on the ticket of the government. Whatever development the state will share, my job is to make sure I lobby for the people of Ejisu,” he stated.

NPP to secure victory in Ejisu by-election with a notable lead – Nana B

The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), has expressed utmost confidence in the party’s prospects for success in the upcoming by-election in Ejisu, foreseeing a substantial victory margin.

During an appearance on JoyNews’ PM Express, Mr. Boakye, commonly referred to as Nana B, dismissed a recent poll conducted by Info-Analytics, which suggests an NPP victory but by a narrow margin.

He criticized the organization and implied a lack of credibility in its work, stating, “Their polls look like somebody sitting in his living room and conjuring some figures and throwing them out there. We have a credible source and I am saying that we’re going to win with a clear margin.”

Responding to this criticism on the same program, the Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Mussa Dankwah, defended the credibility of their polls.

Mr Dankwah emphasized their organization’s widespread recognition both nationally and internationally for the reliability and accuracy of their polling data.

“The whole country knows we are credible, the whole world knows that we are credible. Despite discrediting us publicly, our poll is what they read every night. It’s a statement they make a lot so I am not surprised.”

He further underscored the importance of voter turnout in shaping the election outcome, emphasizing that the victorious party would likely be the one capable of effectively mobilizing its supporters.

“This election is not going to be a walk in the park. And whoever will win, it will depend on turnout. The competitor who can convince his supporters to come out and vote will most likely have it.”

NPP’s win in Ejisu by-election crucial for Bawumia victory in 2024 elections – Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has conveyed his confidence in the NPP candidate, Kwabena Boateng, securing victory in the Ejisu by-election.

In a recent social media post on Tuesday, April 30, Ahiagbah urged the people of Ejisu to overwhelmingly support Boateng at the polls.

He stressed that a triumph for the NPP in the by-election would not only honor the late Dr. John Kumah but also symbolize the success of Vice President Bawumia and the NPP in the upcoming December 7th elections.

“Good people of Ejisu will make a statement today by voting massively for Kwabena Boateng, #2 on the ballot. A victory for the NPP in this by-election will not only honor the memory of Dr John Kumah but also signal the triumph of Bawumia and the NPP on December 7th. Let’s join hands and work towards a landslide victory for the NPP… It’s possible.”

Currently, voting is ongoing across all 204 polling centers in Ejisu to elect a successor for the former MP and Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, who passed away on March 7, 2024.

Six candidates, including three independent candidates, are competing in the by-election, with an expected participation of 106,812 voters.

Notably, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former three-time NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency, is running as an Independent Candidate in the by-election.

Despite facing allegations of betrayal, Aduomi remains optimistic about his chances of winning the election and representing Ejisu once again.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed the clearance of six candidates to contest the upcoming Ejisu by-election scheduled for April 30, 2024.

This by-election, overseen by the EC, aims to elect a new parliamentary representative for the Ejisu Constituency following the passing of the incumbent, John Kumah, who also served as the deputy finance minister, on March 7, 2024.

Leading the candidates is Kwabena Boateng, representing the NPP, who secured the second position on the ballot. Former MP Ing. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, running as an independent candidate, holds the fourth spot, while Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) is listed third.

Esther Osei represents the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and holds the first position on the ballot.
Gabriel Agyemang Joseph and Joseph Attakora, both independent candidates, occupy the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.

Notably, the largest opposition party, the NDC, did not nominate a candidate for the by-election.

A former three-term NPP member of Parliament running as an independent candidate, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, is anticipated to pose a significant challenge to his former party.

The Secretary-General of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has voiced confidence in the ruling party’s prospects for victory in the upcoming Ejisu by-election scheduled for April 30, 2024.

In his statement, he emphasized that no election can be considered “easy,” as all candidates involved diligently prepare to secure victory.

Despite a survey by Global Info Analytics indicating a competitive by-election, Kodua expressed certainty in the NPP’s candidate, Kwabena Boateng, winning in the Ejisu constituency.

During an interview with Oyerepa TV, Kwesi Parker-Wilson questioned the significance of the statistics from Global Info Analytics, portraying the by-election as a tight race for the NPP.

Frimpong Kodua responded, ““If you look at the statistics coming from the Global Info Analytics, it depicts that this is a tight race for the NPP in this election [the Ejisu by-election]. Do you agree?”

“There is no small election in Ghana, every election is a tough one. At the end of the day, if you put strategies in place, you will win. I can assure you that on Tuesday, [April 30, 2024] the NPP is winning.”

  • Prof Jane Naana’s appointment intimidates NPP – NDC SA Council Chair

Prof Jane Naana’s appointment intimidates NPP – NDC SA Council Chair

Chairman of the South African National Democratic Congress (NDC) Council of Elders, Benjamin Kofi Quashie, has voiced his opinion regarding the selection of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as former President Mahama’s running mate.

He has implied that it has caused unease within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Quashie highlighted Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s impeccable reputation and her suitability as a complement to former President John Dramani Mahama.

“Prof is a good person and would bring in a lot of development to the country as vice president who comes in with a lot of competence. This is the reason why she intimidates the NPP. When somebody intimidates them, they would run round and dig the person and raise all manner of accusations against the person,” he stated.

Speaking to Nana Otu Darko on Accra FM’s “The Citizen Show” on Saturday, 27th April 2024, he recounted her impressive trajectory, citing her role as the first female Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, her academic accolades, and her contributions at the Ministry of Education, which he believed made her a formidable choice for running mate.

He emphasized that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s competence would contribute significantly to the country’s development as vice president, which, he claimed, was why she unnerved the NPP.

“Never in the history of the 4th republic has anyone delivered a speech with such a fearless and passionate appeal to the conscience of Ghanaians” adding, this makes him feel proud that her daughter has someone to look up to and say, “it’s possible and can be done. Prof brings a lot to the people,” he added.

Mr Quashie asserted that since her nomination, the NPP had failed to identify any flaws in her character, resorting instead to baseless accusations.

Regarding her introduction to the Ghanaian electorate, Quashie praised her speech as unprecedented in the history of the Fourth Republic, portraying her as a fearless and passionate advocate for the nation’s conscience.

He expressed pride in the prospect of his daughter having a role model like Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, emphasizing her potential to inspire positive change.

Mr Quashie further argued that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s impact would extend beyond the NDC, benefiting the entire Ghanaian populace.

He contrasted her with the current Vice President, whom he criticized as indecisive, suggesting that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s leadership would bring a much-needed dynamic shift.

Concluding, he predicted that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, with her distinguished background, would become Ghana’s first female Vice President, utilizing her expertise to advance the nation’s development.

Prof Jane Naana’s track record lacks significant achievements – Eric Twum

A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Team, Eric Twum, has asserted that Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer’s running mate, lacks notable achievements from her tenure as Minister of Education.

Speaking to Selorm Adonoo on The Big Issue aired on Citi FM and Citi TV, Twum claimed that the NDC is averse to subjecting Prof. Opoku-Agyemang to scrutiny due to her perceived lack of accomplishments in political leadership.

He contended that a comparison of her time as Minister of Education with the current state of education would reveal minimal progress that stakeholders can attest to.

“Given the political platform, she has been a Minister of Education before and has also been chosen as a running mate before, so there is a lot to interrogate but the challenge I have with the NDC is that it is almost as if she is supposed to be absolved from and taken out of any kind of interrogation.

“You saw her stewardship as a Minister of Education and what is it that she can point out as her record? If you do a comparative analysis of education under her watch and now, the stakeholders will attest to a different educational system as stakeholders.”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to conduct its Parliamentary Primary in the La Dadekotopon Constituency on Saturday, April 27th.

Among the contenders who have submitted their nominations for the primary are Joseph Addo, personal driver to President Akufo-Addo, and Solomon Kotey Niikio, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.

The primary was sanctioned by the National Executive Committee of the NPP following the resignation of the elected Parliamentary Candidate, Dr. Joseph Gerald Tetteh Nyanyofio, citing personal reasons.

In the 2020 election, the NPP lost the La Dadekotopon seat to Rita Naa Odoley Sowah of the NDC.

The NPP aims to reclaim the seat in the upcoming December polls.

Bawumia’s driver’s mate remark is preventing him to name his running mate – Nana Ntow Amirekyi

A former National Organiser of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Desmond Nana Ntow Amirekyi, has pointed out that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is encountering difficulties in selecting a running mate for the 2024 elections due to his statements.

Amirekyi highlighted that Bawumia’s previous remarks have posed challenges in his quest for a suitable partner for the upcoming elections.

He stressed that Bawumia’s statements regarding his role within the government have raised doubts about his willingness to empower his vice president if he were to assume the presidency.

Speaking on a panel discussion on UTV’s Adekye Nsroma on April 25, 2024, the former PNC official stated:

“It will be difficult for Bawumia to choose a running mate because of his utterances. If you are a vice president and claim that you were just a vice and as a result, your decisions were not factored in the administration then it means that, when you get the opportunity to become president you won’t also allow your vice to function.

“That is why it has become difficult for him to choose his vice president,” he said.

He added, “His own words mean that his vice won’t be useful in his administration because for him as a vice he was not useful in his administration… he is the same person who said he didn’t support the E-Levy …if not for Dr. Bawumia we didn’t know that if you are a vice president, you don’t have a say in the government.”

Gari no more compulsory for Free SHS students because they are fed thrice a day – NPP

A member of the Communications team for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vera Wiredu, has praised the impact of the Free Senior High School policy initiated by the administration of President Akufo-Addo.

During an appearance on TV3’s New Day program,Madam Wiredu highlighted the policy’s success in achieving its social intervention objectives.

She pointed out that students who previously brought gari to school no longer find it necessary, as they are now well-fed under the policy.

“His Excellency Nana Addo, compassionate, visionary and result-oriented Bawumia, they said whether you are rich, whether you are poor, you are a Ghanaian, go to school; everything is free.

“All you do is get your chop box, the gari is not even compulsory because you are being fed three hot meals a day.

“So, if you go you don’t need gari. I have children, not necessarily personal or biological children in Free Senior High, they take gari and return the gari home,” she stated.

Wiredu contrasted the NPP’s performance with that of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), asserting that the NDC’s history of poor governance disqualifies them from reclaiming power.

She reiterated the NPP’s stance that the NDC’s call for a review of the Free Senior High School policy signals their intention to abolish the policy if they come into power.

NDC will hold corrupt NPP officials accountable – Naana Jane

The running mate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 presidential election, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to holding corrupt members of the current government accountable.

During her inaugural address at an event to officially introduce her, Professor Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that she and former President John Dramani Mahama have agreed to ensure that those involved in looting state resources under the Akufo-Addo-led government face consequences.

She stated that this commitment is based on the wishes of Ghanaians and the principle of accountability.

“John and I have agreed, that whoever has participated in the plunder of the state must be held accountable. This is not a threat; it is a promise, premised on the wishes of our citizens across the various political and social divides, and hinged on the principle of accountability,” she stated during her inaugural address at an event to officially outdoor her on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

“Across the political divide, across social and professional groupings, among the youth, you hear of complaints and stories concerning state capture, where this government has chosen to use its power not in the broader interest of all Ghanaians but to favour a small clique. What is that?” she questioned.

Addressing the audience at the UPSA Auditorium in Accra, she criticized the current administration for promoting cronyism and nepotism, which she believes has negatively impacted the Ghanaian population.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang highlighted issues such as ethnocentrism, which she claimed has been disguised as intellectualism, leading the country toward a state of near collapse.

She asserted that these actions have resulted in a country facing financial difficulties, natural resource challenges, and a population silenced through harassment and intimidation.

Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, a former Minister for Education and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, was nominated by former President John Dramani Mahama as his running mate for the 2020 election.

Continuing their partnership, Mahama has once again chosen her as his running mate for the 2024 election, potentially making her Ghana’s first female vice president.

“Let us face the facts: The promotion of ethnocentric elitism masquerading as intellectualism; nepotism cloaked as know-how; weakness strutting as courage; and crony capitalism masked as development in freedom; shameless hypocrisy acting as objectivity… these never served a country determined to make progress at any level.

“Rather, the most significant achievement of these things has been a country in near insolvency, its natural resources such as water and land and environment in rebellion, a people harassed and intimidated into numbness and as some say cynically, bribed into silence,” she stated.

Publishing dumsor timetable could make NPP lose 2024 elections – Martin Kpebu

A prominent private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has criticized the Akufo-Addo government for its failure to devise a schedule for the ongoing erratic power supply (dumsor), which would assist Ghanaian households and businesses in better planning their lives.

In an interview on TV3’s The Keypoints program on April 23, 2024, Mr Kpebu stated that the sole reason the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is hesitant to create a dumsor timetable is due to the potential political consequences of such action.

Kpebu emphasized that the government is aware that releasing a dumsor timetable would undoubtedly impact the fate of the NPP in the forthcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.

“It (the refusal to devise a dumsor timetable) is nothing new. It just reiterates the statement by Socrates that ‘Politicians are crooks’, that’s it; rooks and are busy gaslighting us.

“Because commonsensically, this dumsor timetable should have been out. But you see how they keep making it look like rocket science, shifting blame? ECG keeps saying that they don’t get enough notice from GRIDCo, so it’s impossible to get a timetable.

“Then you find Matthew Opoku Prempeh (the Minister for Energy), come to insult us after we’ve paid him with taxes and even has not had the courtesy to render an unqualified apology to us. And it goes on and on and on,” he said.

The lawyer added, “So what they’re saying is that if this timetable comes out, then it means that they are sinking themselves, you know, because election 2024 is just in the corner.”

  • I have asked Mahama to anticipate inheriting ‘dumsor’ from corrupt NPP – NDC MP

I have asked Mahama to anticipate inheriting ‘dumsor’ from corrupt NPP – NDC MP

The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has emphasized that despite the resolution efforts during former President John Dramani Mahama’s tenure, the return of inconsistent power supply, (dumsor), has reemerged under the Akufo-Addo administration.

Mr Buah, who formerly served as Energy Minister, revealed that he has personally cautioned President Mahama to brace for potential dumsor should he assume the presidency again.

He attributed the current energy challenges to what he described as incompetence, mismanagement, and corruption within the present administration.

Mr Buah criticized the government’s refusal to provide a timetable for the ongoing load shedding, accusing them of undermining the intelligence and sensitivity of Ghanaians.

According to him, financial constraints have hindered the government’s ability to procure sufficient fuel for certain thermal plants, exacerbating the generation issues.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio 92.4 FM, UK, Buah highlighted the investments made by the former president in the energy sector, which he claimed successfully mitigated the crisis prior to the end of Mahama’s term.

“This government has not added a single megawatt of power to what it inherited; however, it has mismanaged the energy it inherited and plunged the country into another energy crisis. Former President John Dramani Mahama resolved the energy crisis before leaving office through the number of investments and infrastructure projects he embarked on.

…But this government has destroyed all these gains made in the energy sector. It was not easy to resolve the crisis, but the visionary Mills-Mahama government was focused, and through the several investments made, it was resolved.

“The Mahama administration brought in the Ameri Plant, the Karpowership, and others as part of the efforts to resolve the crisis, but today, the current administration has destroyed the gains. Aside from these, the Mahama administration, which faced power crisis head-on, introduced the Energy Sector Levy (ESLA) to address the legacy debts, crippling stakeholders in the value chain, and lobbied the US government for Compact II of the Millennium Challenge Account, $500 million to retool the ECG to reduce commercial losses affecting the company’s operations,” he stated.

He emphasized that the current administration has failed to add any significant power capacity inherited from its predecessor, while also alleging the mismanagement of existing resources.

Mr Buah credited the Mills-Mahama government’s focused approach and various investments for resolving the energy crisis before the end of their tenure.

Furthermore, he lauded Mahama’s administration for introducing key initiatives such as the Ameri Plant and the Karpowership, as well as securing funding like the Energy Sector Levy (ESLA) and the Compact II of the Millennium Challenge Account from the US government.

Mr Buah expressed confidence that a future NDC government, led by Mahama, would effectively address the energy crisis based on his extensive experience in handling such challenges.

You are unprofessional – Buaben Asamoa tells journalist for accusing NPP of bribery

A heated exchange erupted between a member of Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change (M4C), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, and Citi TV journalist Umaru Sanda Amadu regarding allegations of bribery within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the April 23 broadcast of Citi FM’s Eye Witness News.

The clash ensued following allegations made by Alfred Ababio Kumi, an NPP member who recently claimed to have led 6,000 individuals to defect from Alan’s movement to the NPP.

Buaben Asamoa fired back, accusing Kumi of being paid to smear the movement’s reputation.

“I know for a fact that he has been enticed by money…it is an ongoing process by NPP apparatchiks to try and bribe younger people from the movement.”

“I am not interested in how much.” Umaru pressed further, seeking concrete evidence of the bribery claims.

When pressed by the journalist to disclose the amount of money involved, Buaben Asamoa declined, stating, “I am not interested in how much.” Despite further probing for evidence of the bribery allegations, Buaben Asamoa remained evasive.

Challenging the integrity of the M4C, Amadu questioned the strength of its convictions if members could be swayed by financial incentives.

Buaben Asamoa defended the movement, urging the journalist not to make generalizations based on individual actions.

Tensions heightened when Amadu inquired whether Buaben Asamoa himself had been approached with bribes, to which Buaben Asamoa retorted, “I am not interested in that question because I am not interested in following this process the way you want to.”

Read an excerpt of their conversation below:

Buaben: I know for a fact that he has been enticed by money and that it is not a process that is one-off; it is an ongoing process by NPP apparatchiks to try and bribe younger people from the movement because they know that the movement is focused on bringing relief to younger people because the movement is ongoing and it is viable and very powerful.

And so young people who are part of the movement are being targeted with cash, with money. It is a process that is deliberately ongoing. Mr Kumi has been paid money

Umaru: Do you know how much?

Buaben: I am not interested in how much.

Umaru: No, if a lawyer of your calibre can make a claim that someone has been paid money and not state how much money, then that is you peddling falsehood and that cannot stand in any jurisdiction.

Buaben: I accept; you are interviewing me, if you think it is a falsehood, you have your opinion

Umaru: You told us that the movement was built on conviction, which is why people like yourself joined, if people who joined the movement because they were convinced by what Alan was preaching could be bought back by money, then it means your movement, the conviction is not convincing.

Buaben: You see, you want to keep me attacking your personality; have I been bought? If one person has been bought, why do you want to extend it to the entire movement, it is not professional.

Question the man who has been bought; don’t question the entire movement. Question the man’s conviction; don’t question the entire movement. Don’t conclude about an entire movement based on one man’s slippage because that person has slipped… I am sitting here. Have I slipped, and have I been paid?

    Umaru: Have you been approached?

Buaben: Umaru Sanda, I am not interested in that question because I am not interested in following this process the way you want to; the way you are going is totally unprofessional; you are believing something that is a figment of somebody; you are seeking to make a mountain out of something that does not exist.

I couldn’t stop the demolishing of my house because I have no power – Ken Agyapong’s brother

A financier of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Oti Bonsu, has spoken out about the demolition of his property in Adjiriganor, an Accra suburb, amid a land dispute involving the family of the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia.

During a press conference held this week at the demolition site, which occurred in the first week of April, Bonsu expressed his frustration at the unjust destruction of his investment, despite court orders to the contrary.

He attributed the issue to the close ties of those involved to positions of power, insinuating that this influenced the outcome.

Mr Bonsu recounted his attempts to resolve the matter with the Ramadan family, who contest ownership of the land with him, but lamented that his appeals went unheeded.

“Abu Ramadan and the Second Lady, I sent a delegation to them asking them to take the facility (as a gift), I did all it takes including approaching President Kufuor who dispatched Fred Oware to look into the matter.

“But Abu Ramadan insisted that his father bought the parcel during his days as a police and they needed it demolished to build a family house. I asked that they share the houses instead of demolishing them but this is what power can do.

“This can happen to anyone and National Security has yet to bring them (demolishing party) to book. I took every necessary step but what power can do is what has played out,” he lamented.

Bawumia’s running mate is loved by Manhyia – Kwame Nkrumah Tikese hints

The flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has purportedly forwarded his preferred choice for a running mate in the upcoming December 7 presidential election to the party’s leadership.

Renowned broadcaster, Kwame Nkrumah Tikese disclosed during his Ade Akye Abia program on Okay FM, on Monday, April 4, 2024, that several prominent figures within the NPP, including the vice president’s chosen running mate, have confirmed the submission of a name.

According to Nkrumah Tikese, one of the primary factors behind Bawumia’s selection was the influence of the Manhyia Palace.

“What I’m hearing is that His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has submitted the choice of his running mate to the leadership long ago. I called about 50 people and they told me that he had already submitted his choice of running mate… They have given me the name of the person and just this morning the person confirmed it.

“I won’t mention the name of the person but I would give his attributes. The person is loved by Manhyia. When Bawumia wanted to become the flagbearer, he went to speak to Manhyia and they also told him that if he was made the flagbearer, they (the chiefs) would also choose their own (as his running mate). This is the first reason,” he said.

Nkrumah Tikese refrained from disclosing the name of the individual but provided attributes, indicating that the person is highly regarded by Manhyia.

Additionally, Nkrumah Tikese highlighted the individual’s wealth as another significant factor, emphasizing the party’s need for campaign funds to retain power.

“The party needs money for campaign and the person also made a lot of money at the two ministries he has headed…The person went to the Education and Energy ministries and Bawumia also needs money,” he said.
