Your running mate decision should not be interfered – Group tells Bawumia

A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives, grassroots members, and supporters advocating for the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has issued a passionate plea for his autonomy in selecting his running mate without undue influence.

Named the Patriotic Movement for Bawumia, the group urged Dr. Bawumia to resist external pressures from various party factions pushing for their preferred candidates as his running mate.

According to a report from Dailyguidenetwork.com, during a press conference in Kumasi, the group criticized certain party factions’ activities and tactics, including press conferences, persistent delegations to Dr. Bawumia, petitions, and threatening remarks in the media.

They stressed that such actions undermine Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and autonomy, suggesting a lack of confidence in his ability to independently decide on his running mate.

“We are advising our flag-bearer, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia not to succumb to any individual or group pressure to select a running mate against his own choice,” the group stated.

They warned against manipulating Dr. Bawumia into choosing a running mate based on narrow interests, highlighting the potential negative impact on the party’s electoral prospects.

The group emphasized the importance of unity within the NPP and cautioned against the risks of disunity and long-standing divisions within the party if external pressures influence Dr. Bawumia’s decision-making process.

They urged party members not to use tactics aimed at imposing a candidate on Dr. Bawumia, stressing that selecting a running mate is solely the prerogative of the flagbearer.

Regarding recent endorsements for specific individuals as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate, the group urged Dr. Bawumia to disregard such endorsements, highlighting his autonomy and leadership role within the party.

They reiterated their support for Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and called for unity and collaboration within the NPP to secure victory in the upcoming presidential election.

“We are humbly advising our flag-bearer, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia not to allow any individual or groups to compel or lure him into choosing a running mate against his actual or real choice.

“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ‘is his own man,’ let us allow him to select someone he has tested and finds capable of helping him lead the NPP to break the eight,” the group declared.

  • Your running mate must be named before May ending – Group tells Bawumia

Your running mate must be named before May ending – Group tells Bawumia

A group known as the Patriotic Movement for Bawumia is urging the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to announce his running mate before the end of May 2024.

The pro-NPP group argues that an early announcement of the running mate would allow the party to kickstart a robust campaign, thus increasing their chances of success in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

During a press conference held in Kumasi on Sunday, April 21, 2024, the group stressed the importance of selecting a running mate to expand the party’s campaign outreach. They believe that the chosen individual will play a crucial role in disseminating the party’s message across the country.

James Aggrey Fiifi Eshun, the spokesperson for the group and the second vice chairperson for the Oforikrom Constituency, cautioned Dr. Bawumia against succumbing to pressure from individuals vying for the running mate position.

He criticized the publicity stunts employed by some individuals to garner attention from the flagbearer, deeming such actions unnecessary. Eshun emphasized that the running mate position within the NPP should not be subjected to competition, and therefore, lobbying and candidate advertisements should cease.

“Pressure on Bawumia to name his running mate is unnecessary. We should give him the opportunity to select a person of his own. It is not a race so we should stop that advertisement of candidates,” he urged.

  • Akufo-Addo is the Moses of our time – Wontumi

Akufo-Addo is the Moses of our time – Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has likened president Akufo-Addo as Moses in the Bible.

Speaking to the media he indicated Akufo-Addo’s vision and mission is to catapult Ghana into a better place, thus the promised land, like the days of the Israelites.

However, certain hurdles like the Covid-19, Russia – Ukraine war and Israel-Palestine Iraq war have hindered president Akufo-Addo’s motives and aspirations.

“Everyone will see that Akufo-Addo has served well. It is sad that Akufo-Addo has now become where he had wanted to take us due to some circumstances like “Covid-19”, “Russia – Ukraine war”, “Israel-Palestine Iraq war”.

According to him, for Akufo-Addo to make amends he has tasked the vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who represents Joshua in the scriptures to lead the country to an expected end.

He added that Bawumia’s running mate will be capable and supportive enough to aid the New Patriotic Party (NPP) securing a third term as well as drive the country to its destination.

“Therefore Moses Akufo-Addo has handed the rod to Joshua Bawumia. When Bawumia’s running mate is unveiled that person will become Caleb to support Joshua Bawumia for Ghanaians to cross the red sea,” he added.

“A pot shouldn’t tell charcoal it’s black” – Prof Marfo tells NPP for calling Mahama incompetent

Former President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Professor Charles Ofori Marfo, has criticized the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), labeling them as “incompetent.”

His critique emerged amidst a discussion surrounding the issue of ‘dumsor,’ a local term denoting erratic power supply.

Professor Marfo’s remarks were triggered by recent statements from NPP representatives, who branded their adversaries in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former President John Mahama, as incompetent.

However, he argued that such accusations lacked credibility when coming from a party that, in his perspective, had displayed similar inadequacies.

“A few days ago, I heard their spokesperson say, incompetent Mahama. It sounds so bitter to me because they have exhibited the same incompetence…a pot shouldn’t tell charcoal that it’s black…when it comes to this particular issue (incompetence), they (the NPP) have no grounds to call Mahama that because they have failed,” oyerepaonline.com quoted him to have said in an interview on April 18, 2024.

Addressing the issue of ‘dumsor,’ Professor Marfo contended that the NPP had failed to effectively tackle the problem during their administration.

He highlighted that during the NDC’s tenure under Mahama, endeavors were made to alleviate the electricity crisis, with some members of the NPP acknowledging enhancements in power supply.

  • Come and show us what you have done; I’ve my records – Alan ‘dares’ NPP

Come and show us what you have done; I’ve my records – Alan ‘dares’ NPP

Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC), has issued a challenge to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who criticise him to provide evidence of their own accomplishments.

Defending his own track record, Kyerematen emphasized that his achievements speak for themselves and suggested that those who doubt his capabilities should demonstrate their own achievements.

Speaking in an interview on Onua FM on April 19, 2024, he stated, “Kufuor brought me back in 2003 to supervise the initiatives I started; these same NPP people were talking… and people started talking about how Kufuor brought me to groom me to become president.

“So, the animosity started a long time ago and I even took too long to exit the party because the animosity started long ago. Ask the NPP people making noise in Ghana: what are their records… Those of you talking—who were you at the time?

“I’ve traced my records; those of you talking, what have you done before? What are your records?” Kyerematen questioned.

The seasoned politician highlighted his early managerial success, stating, “My achievements started at USA, now Unilever, I was a manager at the age of 22 and that is a record at that time.

“I was in charge of UNDP, their programme that supported businessmen in the whole of Africa called Enterprise Africa. In politics, Kufuor knew my worth before we came to power.

“I would have contested him in 1996 because he knows my worth. When he became President, I was the first person he appointed a minister and I was bold to tell him that I don’t need your appointment, I was working with the UN already before helping you to become President,” he added.

  • Stop labeling me as an NPP pastor – Owusu-Bempah

Stop labeling me as an NPP pastor – Owusu-Bempah

Leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International (GWPMI), Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has emphasized that he maintains no political allegiance.

Owusu-Bempah clarified that labeling him as a supporter of any particular political party, especially the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is inaccurate, asserting that he harbors no animosity towards any political faction in the nation.

“Some have tagged me as an NPP pastor, I am not. What it is, is that whatever God reveals to me is what I state, as in, I go where the revelation leads me. Just because a pastor releases a prophecy that does not go in your party’s favour; that doesn’t mean he hates you.

“I do not hate NDC or NPP but what I see is what I speak to. I came out myself this year to pronounce that I will not speak on who will win the 2024 polls. I know it but won’t divulge it.

“I will meet with whoever will win the polls, if they listen to directions that I will give, they will be victorious,” he added.

During an interview on Okay FM, where he reiterated recent criticism directed at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the religious figure known as the Nation’s Prophet emphasized that he merely conveys what he perceives as revelations from God.

He continued to criticize former ally President Akufo-Addo, highlighting that since private channels of communication have been cut off, he will continue to voice his concerns publicly.

He accused Akufo-Addo of relinquishing control of the nation to his relatives, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

“We did not vote for them, none of them was elected to take the presidential seat. Things are not going well and he (Akufo-Addo) must be told.

“Even if Ofori-Atta has been relieved of his post, the Akyem Mafia so-called are in charge. I am pained like most NPP people who cannot openly complain, God will ask me if I fail to tell him the truth while he is in office,” he emphasized.

  • NPP has spend money judiciously than the NDC – Dr Frank Banor

NPP has spend money judiciously than the NDC – Dr Frank Banor

The Director of Research at the Danquah Institute, Dr. Frank Bannor, has emphasized the nuanced nature and significance of Ghana’s debt profile discussion spanning from 2009 to 2023.

He underscored notable trends in Ghana’s debt trajectory, highlighting a substantial surge from $8.07 billion in 2008 to $29.2 billion by the end of 2016.

During the period between 2009 and 2016 under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, Ghana’s debt stock experienced an average annual increase of 32.75%.

Conversely, the trajectory under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, from 2017 onwards, witnessed a comparatively modest addition to Ghana’s debt stock, averaging about 10.68% annually.

Mr Bannor noted that this lower rate, compared to the previous administration, reflects superior economic management by the NPP, despite facing global economic challenges.

He elaborated on fiscal deficits as a crucial indicator of government financial management. Fiscal consolidation periods were highlighted, along with challenges such as the significant deficit in 2012 under the NDC, attributed to heightened spending during an election year.

This fiscal imbalance led to prolonged repercussions, including consecutive years of double-digit deficits from 2013 to 2014, ultimately prompting the government to seek assistance through an IMF extended credit program in 2015.

In contrast, the NPP’s performance showcased rare instances of double-digit deficits, with only one occurrence recorded in 2020 amidst the global upheaval caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

This favorable fiscal track record underscores the NPP’s commitment to prudent financial management.

Furthermore, the analysis delved into the utilization of borrowed funds by the NPP government, highlighting expenditure trends from 2017 to 2023.

Mr Bannor emphasized a prudent fiscal policy prioritizing investments aimed at generating long-term benefits for future generations.

“Furthermore, our discussion delved into fiscal deficits as a pivotal measure of government financial management. We highlighted how periods of fiscal consolidation were interspersed with challenges, notably the significant deficit experienced in 2012 under the NDC, primarily attributed to heightened spending during an election year. Regrettably, Ghana grappled with prolonged repercussions from this fiscal imbalance, enduring consecutive years of doubledigit deficits from 2013 to 2014. The persistent fiscal challenges ultimately
compelled the government to seek assistance through an IMF extended credit
    program in 2015.

“In contrast, when assessing the NPP’s performance, it’s noteworthy that doubledigit deficits were rare occurrences, with only one instance recorded in 2020 amid
the global upheaval caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. This comparatively favourable fiscal track record underscores the NPP’s commitment to prudent financial management. More so, the analysis delves into the use of borrowed funds by the  NPP government, making clear its expenditure trends from 2017 to 2023. At DI, we firmly advocate for a prudent fiscal policy that prioritizes investments geared towards generating long-term benefits for future generations. Despite misconceptions, it is important to highlight that these funds have been deployed judiciously, with tangible evidence validating their allocation.
From the analysis, substantial sums have been allocated to various sectors, including the energy sector and infrastructure development. Notable expenditures include payments to independent power producers, construction of interchanges, road projects, railway expansion, construction of mini harbours and fishing landing sites, and investment in the healthcare sector through ambulance procurement,” he said

Contrary to misconceptions, he stressed that these funds have been deployed judiciously, with tangible evidence validating their allocation.

Key sectors benefiting from these investments include energy, infrastructure development, construction of interchanges, road projects, railway expansion, mini harbors, fishing landing sites, and healthcare through ambulance procurement.

Mr Bannor emphasized that these investments signify a strategic approach to utilizing funds for developmental projects aimed at enhancing economic growth and societal well-being.

His press conference coincides with criticisms from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Former President John Dramani Mahama, accusing the NPP administration of excessive borrowing without tangible projects to show for it.

You can offer me $100m, I will not return – Hopeson Adorye to NPP

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Hopeson Adorye, reiterated that there is nothing that could prompt his return to the party.

In an interview with Ohemaawoyeje of Angel FM, the ex-Deputy National Security Coordinator underscored that despite not formally resigning from the NPP, he remains resolute in his decision, stating that no form of compensation could sway him back.

“I didn’t need any compensation; I was not the one that said I was leaving the party. Alan held a programme which I attended because I was invited and I said I am still a member of the NPP but a sympathiser of Alan Kyerematen. That was all…

“I am saying that even if they give me a hundred million dollars, I will not go back to the NPP,” he emphasised.

In November 2023, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) revoked the membership of Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique. This action was taken because they publicly endorsed a presidential aspirant other than the party’s elected flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Subsequently, these four individuals have played significant roles in the campaign of John Alan Kyerematen, the leader of the Movement for Change.

Kyerematen departed from the party to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

The former President of the Ghana Football Association and a contender in the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary for the Ejisu Constituency, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has been hospitalized.

A source from his campaign team confirmed to Citi News that Nyantakyi experienced stomach pain on Friday night and was subsequently admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The source suggested that Nyantakyi’s ailment might have been triggered by not eating throughout the day, given his packed schedule leading up to Saturday’s polls, which included planned meetings with delegates.

He has been receiving treatment at the Legacy Hospital in Asokore Mampong since Friday evening.

This morning, 1081 delegates will determine the fate of nine aspirants vying to represent the New Patriotic Party in the upcoming by-election in the Ejisu Constituency.

The primary is being held following the passing of the Member of Parliament for Ejisu, John Ampontuah Kumah.

Campaign activities have been fervent throughout the week as aspirants canvass for delegate support.

The party has issued a cautionary note to both aspirants and delegates, emphasizing strict adherence to election guidelines and urging aspirants not to sequester delegates.

During an interview on the Angel Morning Show on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Mr Kuranchie expressed his disillusionment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing the party’s failure to recognize his longstanding residency and deep understanding of the constituency’s issues.

He criticized the NPP’s decision to appoint an outsider, Nana Ama Dokua, to lead the constituency instead of acknowledging a local candidate like himself who is intimately familiar with the area.

Mr Kuranchie, a veteran journalist, stressed the significance of investing in human capital within the constituency while lamenting the lack of substantial efforts to improve living conditions over the years.

“I’ve not seen any extraneous hard effort to improve the conditions of the people in terms of education, health after 38 years of living in my constituency,” Kuranchie remarked.

A former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Solomon Owusu, has expressed his joy in abandoning the ruling party to join Alan Kyeremanten’s Movement For Change, considering it a significant positive step in his political journey.

Describing the day he officially left the NPP as the happiest in his life, he shared his sentiments during an interview with Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah on Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

As a Communications Team member of the Movement For Change, Owusu vividly recalled his departure from the NPP on September 25, 2023, at 2:30 pm, noting it as a momentous occasion akin to the joy of his birth.

He likened his departure to gaining freedom from slavery, emphasizing his newfound enlightenment since leaving the NPP.

Reflecting on his experience, Owusu expressed that sometimes individuals remain in a party merely to honor familial ties, but his departure marked a conscious decision to break free from what he perceived as a cycle of conformity.

He asserted that the NPP had become synonymous with the Nana Addo People’s Party, prompting his departure.

“It is like saying this is the time to come out of a slavery you have been placed under. Sometimes you are in a party just to appease your parents for bringing you up in it, but they were the same people who sent you to school to gain knowledge and see the light, hence in September I decided to part ways with the party. It is the Nana Addo People’s Party and not the New Patriotic Party, so I have left the party. After I left the party, I have seen happiness,” he explained.

GHS500k has been offered by some NPP chairmen to make NAPO vice president hopeful – Chairman Aluta alleges

The chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Juaben constituency, Alex Sarfo Kantanka, has raised allegations suggesting that Ashanti regional constituency chairpersons are facing pressure to endorse Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), as the running mate for Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Kantanka revealed that he was contacted by Fiifi Mensah, the chairman of Bantama constituency, who urged him to sign a petition in support of NAPO as the potential running mate for Dr. Bawumia.

Expressing his reservations, Kantanka emphasized that decisions of such importance should not be swayed by financial incentives or endorsements from party officials.

During an interview on Okay FM on April 9, 2024, Kantanka disclosed that he had been invited to sign the petition alongside other constituency chairpersons but opted not to participate in the process.

When questioned by the host regarding rumors of monetary inducements, Chairman Aluta confirmed the existence of such pressure, recounting his own experience of being approached by Chairman Fiifi to endorse NAPO.

He highlighted the importance of selecting a running mate based on merit and suitability rather than monetary influences.

Chairman Aluta further expressed concern over the notion of party chairpersons being involved in endorsing a candidate for the vice presidency, emphasizing the need for transparent and merit-based selection processes within the party.

He concluded by condemning the idea of the vice presidential slot being allocated to the highest bidder, stressing the importance of upholding the integrity and principles of the party.

“He mentioned that the letter was with Joe Carl, the chairman of Nhyiaeso. I agreed to come and sign. On my way to the location, the Kumawu chairman called me to inquire if I had been contacted. I confirmed, but I pretended not to understand the nature of the conversation.”

“He also mentioned that Fiifi had called him to come and sign. I felt distressed, so I decided not to go, and he did the same.

“The party shouldn’t be run based on who can pay money.

“Since I became chairman, I have never encountered a situation where chairmen are supposed to endorse a candidate for the vice presidency as a running mate. Never in my life as an NPP member have I seen such a scenario where the selection of a running mate should be based on the endorsement of party chairmen.

“So, what is going on? It confirms what people are saying. The running mate slot is being given to the highest bidder,” he added.

The Director of Communications for Bawumia’s Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has vehemently criticized former President John Dramani Mahama for his recent remarks regarding the educational sector.

Mr Aboagye underscored the achievements of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in recent years, asserting that their progress surpasses that of previous administrations.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, April 9, Aboagye took exception to Mahama’s statements, highlighting the NPP government’s successes, including the distribution of tablets to senior high school students.

“The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party announced that we, the New Patriotic Party, were going to distribute tablets to students of senior high schools in this country. The NDC in their usual impossibility character and posture came out to radicalise this announcement, hoping it will never come to reality.”

“The incompetent former president, after promising to roll out and distribute tablets across this country and failing to implement this promise, comes to question the priority of the government to do the exact thing that he promised some 7 years ago and could not deliver.”

He noted that while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) initially dismissed the announcement as unattainable, the distribution has now commenced. Aboagye expressed disappointment in Mahama’s negativity toward the policy and its beneficiaries.

The National Youth Organizer of NPP, Salam Mustapha, also criticized Mahama’s suggestion to separate the Ministry of Youth from Sports.

Mustapha argued that such a move would not address youth unemployment and demonstrated a lack of comprehension of the issue’s complexities.

“But on the heels of our hard-working Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the policy was launched, and distribution, as we speak, has started. Isn’t it unfortunate that the former president and the NDC, within the full-blown hypocritical parades, came to display their bitterness towards a policy and especially its beneficiaries who are all Ghanaians of this country?”

“His proposed solution to youth unemployment by decoupling the Ministry of Youth and Sports is not only misguided, but it also highlights his lack of understanding of the complexities of the issue. For the avoidance of doubt, sports is one of the means to develop young people, just like creative art.”

He questioned Mahama’s motives, considering his previous pledge to reduce the number of ministries.

“How then can you take away the very critical vehicle to the Ministry and claim to be solving the problem? Is it the same John Mahama who is promising to reduce the number of ministries now promising to create more?”

How can you rejoice over a survey that lacks methodology – Lecturer quizzes NPP

A Professor from the University of Ghana Business School, Kobby Mensah, has raised concerns regarding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) celebration of survey results devoid of a clear methodology.

Speaking on TV3 he expressed bewilderment at the current criticism of the methodology employed in the recent Global InfoAnalytics Poll, which places the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the NPP’s torchbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Professor Mensah highlighted that the methodology and questionnaire of the aforementioned poll were made public for clarity, thus questioning the basis of the concerns being raised.

According to the poll results, John Mahama garnered 54.3 percent support, while Dr. Bawumia secured 34.6 percent. Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change, received 7.5 percent, and Nana Kwame Bediako of the New Force polled 2.3 percent.

In response to the poll, the Director of Communications for the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, expressed reservations about the methodology used.

Professor Mensah argued, “The value that we place on the outcome of this survey cannot be inclusive to the people of this country because the instrument itself can create problems due to people’s understanding of the questions asked.

“So therefore the answers they are giving, as to whether or not they are answering the question about the country moving in the right direction (which is relative when you translate into another language) is the issue.

“For me, the premium we should put on this should not be too high,” he said on Friday, April 5.

He recalled instances when polls with undisclosed methodologies were endorsed by prominent NPP members and media houses, contrasting them with the current poll that has openly published its methodology and questionnaire.

“We were in this country when very suspicious polls had been published by a certain name of an international organization that did not even publish the methodology,  we had prominent members of the NPP going around touting that particular results.

“We had media houses actually reporting that particular results and now you have a poll that has published its methodology for everybody to read and even published the questionnaire.

“It is very difficult to understand what they mean by the methodology is not rigors.”

  • NPP failed Nyantakyi, that is why he is talking! Wanted to contest Ejisu unopposed – Kevin Taylor

NPP failed Nyantakyi, that is why he is talking! Wanted to contest Ejisu unopposed – Kevin Taylor

Journalist Kevin Taylor has disclosed what he believes to be the true motive behind Kwesi Nyantakyi’s recent outburst about an alleged blackmail attempt involving journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Taylor suggests that Nyantakyi’s grievances stem from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) supposed decision not to let him run unopposed in the upcoming by-election in Ejisu, following the death of Member of Parliament for the area, John Kumah.

“Painfully Nyantakyi requested to go unopposed in Ejisu, the NPP has refused to let him do that so he is angry now hence the name mentioning,” he wrote on X.

Nyantakyi in a recent interview on Onua TV, shed light on a purported bribery scandal, implicating one lawyer Kwame Djan, who is allegedly a lecturer at the University of Ghana.

Giving insights to incidents surrounding the Number 12 documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, that saw his downfall, Nyantakyi said, “Before the video was released, a former colleague at the GFA Exco, Adam Munkaila, took me to Anas’ lawyers, a certain Kwame Djan, a lecturer at Legon. I met him at his residence around Westland, and he told me Anas was his student and had informed him he needed $150,000 to kill the story. I had never been to his house before. I gave them $100,000, but they told me the amount was inadequate and later went ahead to release the video. After the video came out, I asked for a refund and even the refund was done in pieces. Today, they would bring $20,000, and the next day another $10,000. They were giving me stories, but eventually, I got everything back.”

According to Taylor, Nyantakyi’s claim is true. He is, as a result, currently facing attempts to have him keep quiet over the issue as it has the potential to jeopardise Kwame Djan’s Supreme Court appointment opportunities.

“It is true that Nyantekyi gave money to lawyer Kwame Djan. Lawyer Djan is currently begging Nyantakyi to keep quiet over the 100,000 USD. The reason why Djan is begging Nyantekyi is that Nana Addo has appointed him in waiting to the Supreme Court. This 100, 000 usd issue if is reported to the General Legal Council would end his ambition to the Supreme Court. If you talk about this his going to the Supreme Court is finished. He would do everything to stop people from probing since Nyantakyi has some evidence of receipts of the money,” Taylor alleged.

He believes Nyantakyi’s actions are driven by a desire for retribution against the NPP, also because, the promises that were allegedly made to him by the NPP government to help him fight Anas have not been fulfilled.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, a former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), experienced a significant downfall following a corruption scandal. He was caught on video accepting a bribe and claiming influence over government positions, which led to his resignation from the GFA in 2018. FIFA initially banned him from all football-related activities for life, but this was later reduced to a 15-year ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

    Despite these controversies, Nyantakyi has ventured into politics, aspiring to be the National Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Ejisu constituency. The seat became vacant following the death of Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah. Nyantakyi is among several candidates who have expressed interest in the NPP primaries for this constituency. Other candidates include;

    1.Lawyer Kwabena Boateng

    2. Dr Evans Duah

    3. Klinsman Karikari Mensah

    4. Helena Mensah

    5. Jacqueline Abena Pokua Amoah-Boaitey

    6. Portia Baffoe Abronye

    7. Lawyer Kwesi Nyantakyi

    8. Aaron Prince Duah

    9. Yaa Akyawmaa Aboagye

The NPP has scheduled the election for a parliamentary candidate for the Ejisu constituency by-election on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

I resigned as Majority Leader because I don’t want to obstruct NPP’s agenda of breaking the 8 – Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has disclosed that stepping down from his role as Majority Leader stands as the most beneficial choice he has ever made.

The Suame MP clarified that his foremost objective was to uphold cohesion within the Majority coalition in Parliament.

Addressing journalists in Kumasi for the first time since his resignation in February, Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu affirmed that he harbors no remorse regarding his decision to resign.

“The major project ahead of us is breaking the eight and the project that I believe in is getting [Dr. Mahamudu] Bawumia elected as the president of this country and I don’t want to be part of anything that will obstruct that or negatively impact that, I don’t want to be part of it. I don’t want to be the eye of the storm and so I think it was the best decision I took.”

He emphasized his unwavering commitment to ensuring the election of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as president in the upcoming December elections.

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu tendered his resignation as Majority Leader on February 21, 2024, following deliberations with key figures of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Jubilee House. He was succeeded by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Member of Parliament for Effutu.

Lawyer linked to NPP ‘vanishes’ from social media following Court of Appeal judge appointment

Lawyer and scholar, Dr Poku Adusei, recognized for his strong support of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and his position as the legal head of the National Communications Authority (NCA), has made a surprising move by reportedly deactivating his Facebook account shortly after President Akufo-Addo nominated him as a judge for the Court of Appeal.

Dr Poku Adusei is amongst 7 other lawyers who have been appointed by the president, for the Court of Appeal. If approved by parliament, these 8 lawyers will go down in history as the largest group in history as the most significant number of judges ever appointed to the Court at one time, elevating the total number of Court of Appeal judges to 53.

Dr Poku Adusei, highly regarded for his academic accomplishments including a Ph.D. in law from McGill University in Canada, has previously held esteemed positions such as Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority and lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law.

Despite his impressive background, Dr Adusei has faced criticism for his vocal support of the government and contentious remarks on various national matters.

His combative social media presence, marked by disparaging comments towards dissenting voices, has sparked considerable debate.

Observers attempting to reach out to him on social media platforms discovered that his profile had been deactivated, suggesting a deliberate attempt to distance himself from past controversies.

In a separate development last year, former President John Dramani Mahama accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of stacking Ghana’s judiciary with judges sympathetic to the NPP.

Mr. Mahama alleged that Akufo-Addo had intentionally appointed his allies to the bench to exert influence even after leaving office.

At the closing ceremony of the 3rd Annual Lawyers Conference of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahama expressed concerns about the growing number of NPP-affiliated judges in the judiciary, suggesting a calculated effort to evade accountability in the future.

Violence mars NPP campaign in Nkoranza South

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Nkoranza South, Harriet Kyeremanteng Oppong, encountered chaos during a routine campaign visit, as members of the opposing NDC allegedly orchestrated a violent attack against her team.

The incident unfolded on March 29, 2024, during a community visit to Nsunensa, escalating when Oppong and her team attempted to address constituents and discuss the achievements of the NPP government, including ongoing development projects.

Tensions arose when Oppong’s team exposed alleged misinformation regarding the funding of the Nsunensa Junction–Nsunensa–Meta Road project, implicating the incumbent MP and a contractor with political ties.

This revelation reportedly triggered a violent response from NDC members, who obstructed the team’s exit using a tipper truck belonging to the road contractor.

The attack, allegedly led by the incumbent MP, highlights the heightened political tensions in Nkoranza South ahead of the upcoming elections.

In response, the NPP Communications Directorate condemned the violence and called for political accountability, emphasizing a history of intimidation by the MP and urging community leaders to promote peace.

The Nkoranza South constituency awaits further developments as authorities investigate the incident and stakeholders seek to address underlying tensions to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

Signed by the Communications Directorate of Nkoranza South, the statement urges Nananom of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, religious leaders, and civil societies to intervene and deter further political violence, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and unity in the region.

NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY – NKORANZA SOUTH CONSTITUENCY

    PRESS RELEASE

THE MP FOR NKORANZA SOUTH, HON. EMMANUEL KWADWO AGYEKUM, ATTACKS MRS. HARRIET KYEREMANTENG OPPONG AND HER CAMPAIGN TEAM

On Friday 29th March, 2024, Mrs. Harriet Kyeremanteng Oppong, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Nkoranza South, together with her team were conducting routine community visits within the Constituency for various party activities.

Mrs. Oppong and her team, while at Nsunensa launching her Polling Station Campaign Team, took the opportunity to trumpet the achievements of the NPP government under the leadership of HE. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The discussion brought to the fore, ongoing Government of Ghana funded projects, including the 12km Nsunensa Jn. – Nsunensa – Meta Road, among others within the cconstituency being rehabilitated by the Ministry of Roads and Highways through the Department of Feeder Roads under the Road Fund.

MESSRS FABDONKOR COMPANY LIMITED, located in Adabraka, Accra, is the contractor, and it is an established fact that the said company is affiliated with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza South.

Instead of utilizing the power given to him by the people of Nkoranza to be a development agent, the MP uses his influence to secure contracts for himself and his family. And mostly, when such kind gestures are extended to him by this NPP government that believes so much in growing indigenous companies irrespective of their political affiliation, the MP would rather use the opportunity to mislead the public into believing that he is personally funding the projects. He does so by either not mounting Project Poster Boards to show the nature of contract, client name and source of funding or he builds the Poster Boards but only mounts them when Officials are visiting for inspection, then pull it down after the inspection.

As such, when Harriet and her team took opportunity of their visit to Nsunensa to give a detailed explanation of the nature of the Nsunensa – Meta road project (Road Fund) to the people, their act of goodwill and honesty was considered an expose of the lies that has been perpetrated by the MP over the period, and this led to an attack on the team while on campaign rounds in the community.

The NDC members who felt that their lies have been exposed got angry, blocked the road with a tipper truck belonging to the road contractor to prevent the team from leaving the community and with the MP himself leading the charge, rained insults and vituperations on Harriet and her team. In fact, had Harriet not been in her vehicle, we wonder what Agyekum and his thugs would have done to her considering their choice of abusive words and how the MP’s face was distorted with rage. Her only crime was that she had been truthful and honest to the very people whose mandate she seeks to serve. This barbaric and violent behavior of Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum has become one too many, and it is about time he is held accountable. It is, therefore, important to remind you of some devilish activities carried out by Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum and his NDC in the past.

In 2016, during the voter registration exercise, Hon. Agyekum, then MP and Parliamentary Candidate for the NDC in Nkoranza South, deployed fully armed machomen to attack NPP agents at RC JHS Polling Stations.Alhaji Issah Moro, alias Bayereko and Mr. Amo Johnson, alias Master Amo among others, suffered the attacks by these henchmen the Hon. Agyekum.

In that same year. Mr. Kofi Ohene-Sakyi, the then Elections and Research Officer of NPP in the Constituency, and his team had to flee town for days to save their lives, all because the MP wanted them killed for no wrongdoing but standing their grounds to prevent his evil machinations. We could continue with an endless list of his barbaric activities, but time and space are of the essence here.

The most important thing we want the general public to understand is that we have experienced a whole Constituency Secretary murdered in cold blood while returning from campaign rounds in 2016 in our sister constituency, Nkoranza North.

Let us not forget that Nkoranza North and South are one traditional area separated only for administrative purposes, so we must be mindful of what happens to our party leaders and followers during the discharge of their duties within this constituency.

We want to further tell Hon. Agyekum and his NDC hooldlums that ‘ntasu kokoo wo obiaa anum na 3nso y3 gyae te fufuo’. No one holds a monopoly on violence, but we have decided to be law-abiding citizens. Let him never think he can get his way out with violence at all times; there will definitely be a day of accountability for him and his hooligans.

In conclusion, we humbly appeal to Nananom of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, the Clergy, our Muslim leaders, and Civil societies to call our MP to order and advise him and his NDC to refrain from politics of attacks, violence, and insults. Nkoranza is known to be a peaceful town. His selfish ambition of remaining an MP to continue to benefit from governmental projects to enrich himself should not hold Nkoranza to ransom and destroy love and unity that binds us as a people.

Any community attributed to violence lacks developmental projects and quality leadership; Nkoranza has outgrown this backwardism and uncouth politics.

  • I spent 2hrs in your constituency just so you will win – Rev Owusu-Bempah tells “ungrateful” Ursula Owusu

The founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries, Rev. Owusu-Bempah, has disclosed that the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma-West, Ursula Owusu, has chosen not to engage with him following his alleged assistance in securing her victory in the constituency.

According to Rev. Owusu-Bempah he spent 2 hours in Ablekuma-West just so Ursula Owusu will become victorious in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries.

“Madam Ursula Owusu is also another person; she is a very ungrateful woman. Some time ago, this woman used to come to me every time. When the election came, I went to her constituency to spend over two hours there. After their victory, I have never heard from her again,” he said.

Reverend Bempah expressed disappointment in the NPP’s lack of gratitude, noting that he had considered withdrawing his spiritual support for the party if not for the intervention of senior members such as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Member of Parliament for Tema West, Irene Naa Torshie Addo-Lartey.

In an interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese of Okay FM, he cited NPP parliamentary candidate for Dome Kwabenya, Mike Oquaye Jnr, as an example of someone who sought his spiritual guidance but did not acknowledge it afterward.

“Mike Oquaye Jnr came to me and said he was struggling to win the Dome-Kwabenya seat, so I gave him directions… he (Mike Oquaye Jnr) confirmed that he and his team chanced on a scene of some big men performing rituals at a particular place which I had mentioned to him.

“I told him to perform the rituals at the same place and he won the elections. He called and said he had won the elections and that he was going to come and visit. As we speak, I haven’t heard from him. So we have some politicians who are ungrateful.”

Reverend Owusu-Bempah, known for his claims of prophetic abilities in election predictions and support, expressed disappointment that some NPP members, including those he has assisted spiritually, have failed to show appreciation.

NDC still considering a contest for the Ejisu seat by-election – Ashanti Reg. Sec.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not yet made a decision regarding its involvement in the upcoming Ejisu by-election in the Ashanti region, prompted by the passing of Member of Parliament Dr. John Kumah.

Although the party asserts that its candidate is prepared for the parliamentary election scheduled for December 7, it is hesitant about participating in the by-election, which is just a few months prior to the general elections, citing concerns such as cost and other factors.

“As I speak to you now, the party is yet to firm up on our decision whether to contest or not to contest. I’m sure that in the coming days we will officially make a statement to declare our position on whether we are going in or not. We are considering other factors as well.

In these elections, there are costs, and there is disruption in some of your calendar activities moving into the main election. The big catch for us is the December 7 election,” the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, said in an interview with Starr News.

He added: “So were are looking, if time permits, the resources permit and, if the indications permit that we go in full force and make a case out of the elections, and possibly win the election for the first time, our research team will report back to us in the coming week and once we have that research document from them and we are able to analyse it, then we will be guided by the data on why we would want to participate.”

Negative social media criticism directed at Bawumia drops by 13% – Report

A recent report from IMANI Africa, a renowned think tank, has highlighted a significant decrease in negative discourse surrounding the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to the report, there has been a notable 13% reduction in negative references to Dr. Bawumia on social media between February and March 2024.

This analysis, part of the Public Understanding and Literacy for Sentiment and Election (PULSE) report by IMANI Africa, provides insightful observations into sentiments expressed across various social media platforms.

During the period from February 26 to March 26, 2024, the NPP witnessed a rise in positive sentiment, climbing from 10.22% to 10.71%.

Conversely, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) experienced a decrease in positive sentiment on social media, dropping from 10.22% to 9.50% during the same timeframe.

IMANI Africa’s analysis encompassed a comprehensive examination of selected social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, various web platforms, TikTok, Podcasts, and Newsfeeds.

The objective was to assess prevailing sentiments regarding key political contenders for the upcoming election and identify influential trends and individuals shaping social media discourse.

The report stated, “The sentiments are of three values, i.e. positive, negative and neutral. All these are also collated and analyzed to determine the language, tone of comments and tweets, and tone of commentary and posts related to both candidates.

“NPP has taken a lead in positive sentiment on the social media posts monitored. The NDC has dropped from 10.22% to 9.50% while the NPP increased marginally to 10.71% from 10.22%. Public negative sentiment has significantly dropped for both, with NPP having an almost 13% drop in negative sentiment,” part of the report stated.

“… The sentiments of NDC fell from 10.22% to 9.5% over the period. NDC took a marginal hit in its positive sentiments for the period, meaning that with NPP’s relative gain of 10.71%, the shift in sentiments is almost of the same magnitude, although NDC’s drop is about 0.2% more. This means that there could be more positive mentions of the NPP on social media than before,” the report added.

He highlighted that many celebrities openly support political parties, yet numerous Ghanaians are uncomfortable with his affiliations.

“ People find it okay to believe in an ideology as individuals, it’s okay for them but when they find someone else believing in an ideology then they have a problem and it makes me sick because there are NDC celebrities.

“Everybody in this country claim to be non-partisan, I don’t do politics, it’s a lie everybody believes in a political ideology, whether CPP, NDC or NPP so I am comfortable with you being who you are and what you believe in so why can’t you be comfortable with me being who I want to be,” he added.

Recently, actor Prince David Osei and Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame were selected to contribute to the manifesto of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

They are part of the party’s sub-committee on tourism, arts, and culture, chaired by Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), and Akwasi Agyemang, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

Other members include former Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Catherine Abelema Afeku, Dr. Ama Boafo-Arthur, Prof. Issahatu Adam, and Claudia Lumor, founder of the Glitz Style Awards. Additionally, Nana Yaw Manteaw, Yaa Pokua Baiden, Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu (KOKA), Festus Frimpong Gyebi, Eric Owusu Akreso Dr. Ackah Kwame Nyameke, and Radia Adama Saani are also members.

Given the high expectations from stakeholders in the cultural and creative industries, this committee is tasked with crafting initiatives that will significantly benefit the sector.

  • My position as flagbearer was ‘given’ to me by Christian majority in NPP – Dr Bawumia

My position as flagbearer was ‘given’ to me by Christian majority in NPP – Dr Bawumia

New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, expressed gratitude to Christians within the party for electing him as the first Muslim flagbearer during an Iftar event at the Suhum Ayekotse Central Mosque.

At the event, attended by Imams, Chiefs, and constituents from the Suhum Constituency on Saturday, March 30, 2024, Dr. Bawumia reflected on his journey within the NPP.

He emphasised the significance of his victory in securing the party’s flagbearer position despite initial doubts about a Muslim leading the party.

Dr. Bawumia credited his success to divine intervention, highlighting the overwhelming support he received from Christian members within the party.

“During the presidential primary, they said a Muslim could not lead the NPP. But by the grace of God, after the voting, out of the 10 candidates, I secured an unprecedented 61% which signifies the hand of God in the victory because when you look at NPP, Christians are more than Muslims in the party so it means it is the Christians who elected Dr Bawumia a Muslim, as flagbear for the NPP for the first time; it has not happened before,” said Dr. Bawumia.

Dr. Bawumia also made a bold declaration to the Muslim community, promising to bring the Qur’an to Jubilee House, Ghana’s seat of government, if elected as President.

He said, “after December 7th, I will take the Qur’an and pray and take it to the Jubilee house. It is possible.”

Vice President Dr. Bawumia expressed his ambition for the forthcoming presidential election, stating his intention to serve two terms as president. He contrasted his potential eight-year tenure with Mahama’s remaining four-year presidency.

“Mahama has only four years but I will have eight years. Do we want four years or eight years? That is why I want him to be patient so that I take the vehicle and drive. Now I am a mate”.

Dr. Mamudu Bawumia urged for peaceful proceedings and highlighted his competition with former President Mahama, urging him to step aside and allow him the opportunity to lead the nation.

“So we are going into an election; everything must be peaceful. I am contesting this election with my brother, the former President Mahama [Flagbearer of NDC] who has been President before, reason I have been telling him to stay back so that I also clinch the presidency because I have not been President before. We know what he did he should also give me a chance to be president to also exhibit what I can do.”

Dr. Bawumia’s statement stands in contrast to that of Alan Kyerematen, an independent presidential aspirant, who also made a plea to voters by asserting that Ghana, being predominantly Christian, should elect a Christian leader in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Kyerematen delivered his message at the Church of Pentecost’s Easter Sunday Convention, presenting himself as the candidate capable of bringing about transformative change for the nation.

“As a predominantly Christian nation, as Christians, it is our responsibility that we elect a Christian leader who is also a Christlike leader.”

He emphasized the importance of electing a leader who aligns with Christian principles, portraying himself as the embodiment of such values.

  • We will oppose any attempt to rig 2024 elections – NDC to NPP

We will oppose any attempt to rig 2024 elections – NDC to NPP

The National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, has issued a stern warning to Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.

George Opare Addo has cautioned the latter against playing games with the NDC in the upcoming December polls.

The National Youth Organiser’s remarks came to Bryan Acheampong’s recent assertion.

Bryan Acheampong had expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will emerge victorious in this year’s elections, citing the improving economy as a key factor.

He emphasized that with the economy showing signs of improvement, Ghanaians are likely to continue supporting the NPP.

However, in a post on the X platform, Mr Opare Addo rebuffed Bryan Acheampong’s confidence, issuing a direct warning to him and others within the NPP.
He stressed that President John Dramani Mahama would secure victory in the December elections, asserting the NDC’s readiness to defend the democratic process.

Mr Opare Addo also emphasized the NDC Youth Wing’s commitment to upholding the will of the people and threatened to take decisive action against any attempt to undermine the electoral process.

He urged respect for the constitutional rights of Ghanaians and warned against any attempts to manipulate the election outcome.

“President John Dramani Mahama will emerge victorious in the December elections and assume the presidency of Ghana. We, the NDC Youth Wing, will not hesitate to take drastic measures against anyone who dares to obstruct the free will and constitutional processes of our nation.

We are prepared to respond aggressively to any misbehavior by an election officer or an agent of this failed ruling government who attempts to thwart the will of the people on December 7,2024. No one should dare play games with the NDC and the people of Ghana. Let it be known,” he added.

  • We will claim all parliamentary seats held by NDC in Bono East – NPP Chairman

We will claim all parliamentary seats held by NDC in Bono East – NPP Chairman

The Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Ibrahim Baba Bukari, widely known as ‘Game Changer’, has declared the NPP’s firm determination to deprive the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of any parliamentary seat in the region.

Chairman Ibrahim Baba Bukari asserted that the party is vigorously striving to secure all 11 parliamentary seats in the region during the upcoming 2024 general elections.

During an interview on Techiman-based private radio station Radio Link on Monday, March 25, 2024, Chairman Ibrahim Baba Bukari elucidated that each parliamentary seat holds significant importance for the party’s electoral prospects.

He emphasized, “we are battle-ready and not leaving any stone unturned to wrest some of the seats from the NDC. I’ve done scientific research, and I can assure you that currently, I have 7 constituencies under foot.”

“For us, we are going for all the parliamentary seats occupied by the NDC, and as such, we need to work hard in order to appeal to the electorate to enable the NPP to win more seats in the 2024 general election. All seats are winnable; I’m targeting all 11 seats, but at least 7 of them should be won by the NPP.

He further stated, “We have only 3 seats; NDC has 8 seats, but at least we should win 7 of them. We will do our best to enable the party to win more seats and increase the presidential votes in the region”.

Therefore, we must diligently appeal to the electorate to ensure the NPP’s success in the 2024 general election. While our primary aim is to win all 11 seats, securing at least 7 victories is imperative.”

Highlighting the current parliamentary standings, he added, “With only 3 seats currently held by the NPP compared to the NDC’s 8, it is essential for us to win at least 7 seats.

We will exert our utmost efforts to expand our parliamentary representation and increase presidential votes in the region.”

Chairman Ibrahim Baba Bukari emphasized the importance of unity and proactive measures within the party, underscoring these as vital components for achieving victory in the 2024 elections.

He stressed the significance of unity, harmony, and diligent efforts as strategic approaches to reclaiming lost parliamentary seats.

He urged both party leadership and members to work together harmoniously and diligently, avoiding complacency to secure success.

Assuring comprehensive mobilization of resources, both material and human, for an efficient and effective campaign, he pledged, “We will ensure adequate provision of resources to facilitate a robust campaign.”

Moreover, he cautioned against the tendency of party members to defect after losing in primaries, urging them to remain steadfast to bolster the party’s chances of retaining power in 2024.

Over 50 projects in Ashanti Region completed by NPP – Simon Osei-Mensah slams critics

In response to a circulating video on social media suggesting he struggled to list developmental projects undertaken by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, has denied the accusations, dismissing them as mere propaganda.

Minister Osei-Mensah clarified the context, explaining that he was fully capable of listing numerous developmental initiatives but was misunderstood during the conversation.

He emphasized that he had conveyed his ability to easily mention around fifty such projects if necessary and even invited the host to provide specific details for him to enumerate.

“I went to a program at Oyerepa FM, and the host asked me questions to mention some of the projects, and after mentioning about 5.

“I wanted to mention the judicial accommodations so I realized I had that footage on my phone inside my pocket …so he told me that I have been accusing the NDC about some of these development projects so I should provide evidence myself and I told him that I could mention 50.

“He should produce the full tape.

“I could provide 50. and I told him the judicial accommodations are closer to my office. That is just mere propaganda, they should bring the full tape.

“I have always been mentioning about 30 projects every time I am called,” he said in an interview on Okay FM on March 27, 2024.

Minister Osei Mensah reiterated his willingness to present a comprehensive list of developmental projects if given the opportunity, stressing that he consistently highlights approximately thirty projects whenever called upon.

  • NPP is not divided over selection of Bawumia’s running mate – Dan Botwe

NPP is not divided over selection of Bawumia’s running mate – Dan Botwe

Ahead of the 2024 general elections, the Campaign Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Dan Kwaku Botwe, has announced that the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will soon convene with the National Council of the party to initiate the process of selecting his running mate for the upcoming elections.

Mr. Botwe emphasized that the NPP remains unified in the selection of the running mate. Speaking to journalists at the inauguration of the Ashanti Region NPP campaign team, he stated, “we are not divided at all, we have had successful polling station elections, successful electoral elections, successful constituency elections, successful regional elections, successful national elections, and successful presidential elections, we are united and we will do it at the right time. We have done it before in 1992, 96, 2000, 2008, we did it, so it is not an issue at all.

He further clarified, “At the appropriate time, the presidential candidate will meet the national council and we shall have a discussion and we will name the running mate, so far as I am concerned there is no contest for a running mate.”

Meanwhile, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), the Ashanti Region Chairman of the NPP, assured the party of breaking the 8-year electoral cycle.

“Dr Bawumia will win the elections, and we shall break the 8,” he said.

  • The three MPs allegedly being considered as Bawumia’s running mate

The three MPs allegedly being considered as Bawumia’s running mate

Leading up to the December 2024 general elections, speculation is rife regarding the potential vice-presidential running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to asaaseradio.com, attention is drawn to three NPP members, all serving as cabinet ministers and holding parliamentary seats.

These contenders include Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, representing the Bosomtwe Constituency and serving as the Minister for Education; Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, representing the Manhyia South Constituency and serving as the Minister for Energy; and Bryan Acheampong, representing the Abetifi Constituency and serving as the Minister for Food and Agriculture.

A striking commonality among these potential vice-presidential candidates is their Christian faith and their origins in the southern regions of Ghana.

This alignment mirrors the NPP’s historical practice, except for 1996 when it formed an alliance with the Convention People’s Party (CPP), ensuring a balance between Christian and Muslim representation.

Typically, the NPP’s presidential ticket features candidates from either the northern or southern regions, often from Akan regions like Ashanti and Eastern.

Given Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s background in the North East Region, selecting any of these candidates would uphold the party’s commitment to maintaining this historical balance.

Among them, Dr. Bryan Acheampong stands out as the youngest, born on November 27, 1972, at fifty-one years old.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s diverse background encompasses military service, entrepreneurship, and academia, showcasing a versatile skill set.

On the other hand, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, born on May 23, 1968, is currently fifty-six years old, while Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum will turn sixty on April 9, 2024.

Each candidate brings extensive experience and expertise to the table. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, renowned in education, has founded charter schools in the United States and held various educational roles.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, a medical doctor, has held prominent positions in healthcare and government, including a role in President Akufo-Addo’s cabinet.

  • Running mate selection causing tension in the party – NPP member

Running mate selection causing tension in the party – NPP member

Founder of Patriot Ghana, a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group, Kwesi Korang, claims that the process of selecting the party’s running mate has caused division, exacerbating existing rifts within the NPP.

His remarks differ from those of Dan Botwe, the campaign chairman of the NPP, who has denied allegations that pressure exists on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer, to choose a running mate.

Korang insists that there is pressure on the presidential candidate to finalize his running mate, leading to internal discord within the party.

Botwe maintains that there is no division within the party and that the announcement of the running mate will occur at the appropriate time.

In contrast, Mr Korang, speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, asserts that there is a power struggle over the running mate selection process.

He suggests that the Vice President is facing pressure to choose a candidate from the Ashanti Region, a situation that has exacerbated party divisions as members vie for the position.

Korang warns that if not addressed properly, this situation could jeopardize the party’s chances in the upcoming elections.

He recommends that the Vice President consider candidates from outside the Kumasi region to avoid alienating certain party members.

Furthermore, he cautions against selecting a running mate solely based on regional considerations, as this could lead to resentment among party supporters.

Instead, Korang advocates for choosing a running mate based on competence, skills, dedication, and the ability to attract votes necessary for the NPP’s victory in the elections.

“We are not divided at all. There is no sign that we are divided.

“We have had successful polling station elections, successful electoral area elections, successful constituency elections, successful regional elections, successful national elections, and successful presidential elections.

“We are united. We will do it at the right time, and we will name the running mate. So far as I’m concerned, there is no contest for running mate,” Dan Botwe said.

  • 2024 election: Bawumia will lose should his running mate come from Ashanti region – NPP member

2024 election: Bawumia will lose should his running mate come from Ashanti region – NPP member

The leader of Patriot Ghana, a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) organization, has emphatically stated that the party stands to lose the 2024 presidential election if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia selects his running mate from the Ashanti Region.

During an appearance on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM’s Frontlines on March 25, 2024, Kwesi Korang asserted that the party’s success and its ability to break the 8-year electoral cycle hinge on Bawumia’s decisions. Thus, he urged caution in the selection process for a running mate.

“Our victory as a party depends on Bawumia. He is our candidate, and whatever he does will affect our victory. I want to state categorically, without mincing words, that if he selects a running mate from the Ashanti Region, we will lose the 2024 presidential election.

“Let me also state it this way: if he should select somebody or a politician who is based in the Ashanti Region, he will lose the elections.

“I want listeners to listen to my analysis well. If he chooses someone who is Ashanti but does not reside there and does not do his politics in the region but in other regions, he will win the elections,” he said.

He elaborated further, stating, “If Bawumia selects a politician who resides in the Ashanti Region, regardless of their ethnicity, our chances of winning diminish. However, if the chosen candidate is Ashanti but conducts their political activities in other regions, victory is achievable.”

Korang emphasized that even if the selected individual is not of Ashanti descent but is known as a political figure in the region, the party would still face electoral defeat.

He expressed concern over ongoing power struggles in the Ashanti Region regarding the vice-presidential candidacy, warning that selecting a running mate from the region could lead to apathy among party members and hinder campaign efforts in the 2024 elections.

“Some people would be offended and bitter and refuse to support the party in campaigning in the 2024 elections. And so, we have to tread cautiously,” he added.

Your brother died wearing pampers; learn from that! – Akufo-Addo ‘warned’

Deputy Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Maleek Basintale, has taken a swipe at President Akufo-Addo following a ‘degrading’ tweet by the Director of Communications, New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah.

The Communications Director of the NPP tweeted an old photo of the NDC flagbearer and former president of Ghana, John Mahama, alongside LGBTQ activist and human rights advocate Andrew Solomon.

The caption implied that Mahama supports the LGBTQ community but is being hypocritical about his stance because his party is advocating for the passage of the anti-gay bill.

In a reactionary tweet to this, Maleek made reference to the sibling of Akufo-Addo, Paul Danquah who was openly gay. He lived with his life partner, Peter Pollock, in the United Kingdom, and later died in Tangier, Morocco, on August 13, 2015.

He alleged that the President’s brother wore diapers days before his demise.

In light of this, he urged Akufo-Addo to learn from the ‘predicament’ of his late brother and be circumspect in his dealings as far as the anti-gay bill is concerned.

“Well, Akuffo-Addo watched his brother Paul Danquah wear pampers before dying. He should use this as a guide and stop meddling with Lesbians like Serwa B,” he said in a tweet.

Be bold and tell Ghanaians your running mate is your second wife! – Chairman Wontumi tells Mahama

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has alleged that the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, and his running mate Naana Opoku Agyemang, got married in 2012.

Chairman Wontumi made this allegation on Northern Go TV, but failed to substantiate it with evidence.

He claimed that former First Lady Lordina Mahama is being deceived by two NDC personalities.

Chairman Wontumi further alleged that Mahama and Naana Jane purportedly tied the knot after the latter divorced her husband of twenty years.

“In 2012, John Mahama married Prof Jane Opoku Agyeman secretly, I’m speaking the gospel fact, so they are husband and wife, they are not flagbearer and running mate, they are deceiving Lordina (Mahama’s wife),” he said.

Wontumi is on borrowed time if John Kumah’s death was due to poison – Oboy Siki

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has been urged to consider distributing his assets if the allegations suggesting that former Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, died from food poisoning hold any merit.

According to autopsy reports, the former lawmaker for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, John Kumah, passed away due to Multiple Myeloma, a type of cancer that affects white blood cells known as plasma cells.

Health professionals elucidate that these cells are crucial for combating infections by producing antibodies, which identify and attack pathogens.

Controversial Kumawood Actor, Dada Santo, also known as Oboy Siki, has raised concerns that Chairman Wontumi may face a similar fate if the assertions of John Kumah’s demise by food poisoning are accurate.

Following John Kumah’s passing, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, the Special Aide to Chairman Wontumi, recounted an incident of alleged food poisoning in Tamale during Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s campaign tour, involving John Kumah and Chairman Wontumi.

In an interview with AMBASSADOR TV, Oboy Siki emphasized that if Chairman Wontumi stands by the claims of his aide, he should consider preparing his will and distributing his possessions.

“If it is true that they ate poison and through that John Kumah lost his life then nothing on this earth can save Chairman Wontumi. I heard someone saying that Wontumi is still alive because he vomited after taking the food but people shouldn’t forget that food poison is dangerous and no one should joke with it,” he cautioned.

“Maybe Wontumi’s aide concocted the poison story for his parochial interest but if it is true then I think Chairman Wontumi should start preparing to follow John Kumah,” he added.

He further urged the Ghana Police Service to conduct thorough investigations into the matter, stressing the importance of vigilance among politicians, celebrities, and others when consuming food from unfamiliar sources or individuals close to them.

“Now John Kumah’s wife is saying different things and Wontumi aide is also saying different things but I think the Ghana Police Service should conduct investigations into the matter”, he demanded.

He explained that “Politicians, celebrities and others should be careful about eating from unknown persons and be mindful about people who are close to them”

2024 elections: It will be difficult for NPP to secure 100 seats in parliament – A Plus

Ghanaian musician, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has made a prediction regarding the outcome of the 2024 elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He asserts that unless the ruling political party becomes receptive to constructive criticism, they are destined to face defeat. According to him, the NPP is on track to lose the upcoming elections if they fail to heed advice and make necessary adjustments.

A Plus emphasized the need for Dr. Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer, to acknowledge the reality of their situation rather than succumbing to flattery.

He believes that honest feedback is essential for Dr. Bawumia to rectify any shortcomings within the party and improve their chances of success in the elections.

Expressing his concerns on an entertainment program, A Plus suggested that the NPP might experience significant losses in parliamentary seats if current trends persist. He even suggested that surpassing 100 seats in Parliament would be a surprising achievement for the NPP given the prevailing circumstances.

In offering guidance to Dr. Bawumia, A Plus advised against relying solely on praise from supporters and instead encouraged him to consider diverse perspectives for a more comprehensive understanding of the political landscape.

  • Will Ghana’s economic woes resolve if Bawumia selects a running mate from Ashanti Region? – Kwesi Pratt quizzes

Will Ghana’s economic woes resolve if Bawumia selects a running mate from Ashanti Region? – Kwesi Pratt quizzes

Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has criticized individuals who are resorting to ethnic considerations in the selection of a Running Mate for the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to CEO of STC and a prominent member of the Vice President’s campaign team, Nana Akomea, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is expected to announce his Running Mate by May this year.

Various names, including Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Energy Minister, former EPA Boss Henry Kwabena Kokofu, and several others, have emerged as potential candidates.

However, there is a growing push within the party for Dr. Bawumia to choose a Running Mate from the Ashanti Region.

The rationale behind this argument is that, as a Northerner, Dr. Bawumia would benefit from partnering with an Asante to ensure political harmony within the NPP.

Speaking on Peace Fm, Kwesi Pratt opposed the trend, emphasizing that ethnicity should not be a determining factor in the selection of a Running Mate.

“If you pick an Asante, how does that resolve the economic problems confronting us? How does it bring down the inflation? How does that improve the value of the cedi?”

“If you are from the Eastern Region and love your country and have a vision to help in the development of the country and you and the presidential candidate are compatible…why not? Why should your coming from the Eastern Region be a qualification?”.

“He should look for competence. He should look for people with party history. He should select from among those who are able to do the work and stop those regionalism, ethnicity and so forth. It is all nonsensical”, he added.

Questioning the logic behind prioritizing ethnicity, Pratt argued that a person’s regional background should not serve as a qualification for the position.

Instead, he urged Dr. Bawumia to focus on selecting a Running Mate based on competence and alignment with his vision.

Investigate “bizarre and unfounded statements” surrounding the death of John Kumah – NPP to police

Some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), including constituency executives in the northern region have called on the Ghana Police Service to launch an investigation into the death of the deputy finance minister, John Kumah.

Speaking to the media, Tamale South Constituency Deputy Secretary, Mahama A. Asanatu, emphasized the need for clarity in the wake of concerning and unfounded statements surrounding the death of the deceased.

Addressing the media during a news conference held on Sunday, March 10, 2024, Madam Asanatu called on those making these allegations to substantiate their claims.

In particular, Asanatu urged individuals spreading what she termed as “bizarre and unfounded statements” about the alleged poisoning of John Kumah to provide vivid and empirical evidence.

She emphasized the importance of presenting such evidence to the Ghana Police Service, urging authorities to conduct thorough and proper investigations to either confirm or dismiss the veracity of these claims.

The Deputy Secretary highlighted the shock and sorrow within the party following the unexpected death of John Kumah, describing him as a beloved figure among party members in the Northern Region.

“For purposes of clarity, we want to use this medium to call on the individuals making these rather bizarre and unfounded statements to vivid and empirical evidence to the Ghana Police Service to conduct thorough and proper investigations to establish or otherwise, the veracity of such claims”she added.

Madam Asanatu acknowledged the impact of Kumah’s support, especially for the youth, and noted that his passing has left many party faithful struggling to come to terms with the loss.

Addressing the purported food poisoning allegations, she referred to videos circulating on social media suggesting that John Kumah and Chairman Wontumi were given poisoned food during a campaign visit to the Northern Region last year.

Madam Asanatu expressed the group’s astonishment at these claims and urged those responsible for the allegations to provide concrete evidence to support their narrative.

Furthermore, she called on the Ashanti regional chairman, Bernard Bosiako Antwi, (Chairman Wontumi), mentioned as one of the individuals allegedly affected by the poisoned food, to make a public statement on the matter.

She stressed the significance of Wontumi’s role as a party leader and elder, noting that the public deserves clarity on these disturbing developments, especially considering the involvement of media personnel from the Ashanti region in spreading the claims.

The widow of the late Deputy Finance Minister expressed these sentiments after Dr. Kumah’s passing last Thursday.

Survived by a wife and six children, the 45-year-old Deputy Finance Minister had a profound impact on the church, even in his final days.

“Among all the things, he left us with God. One thing that he loved doing was about the work of God. Even in his last days, he changed a lot in the church, which cost him a lot, but he insisted that he wants the best for God,” she said.

Reflecting on the family’s coping mechanisms, Mrs. Kumah stated, “It’s not easy for both his mother and father because it’s that baobab tree that we all enjoyed some fresh air under that’s been uprooted,” adding, “his motive was to train me as a strong woman, and he’s accomplished that.”

Addressing concerns about speculation regarding the cause of her husband’s death, Mrs. Kumah urged authorities, including President Akufo-Addo, to investigate the matter.

She revealed that Dr. Kumah had been diagnosed with a blood-related disease in August 2023 during a medical check-up in Germany.

Despite arrangements to transport him to Accra for further medical attention and an onward planned trip to Germany, he passed away at the Suhum Government Hospital in the Eastern Region.

A private legal practitioner and entrepreneur, Dr. Kumah, served as the Managing Partner of Aduaprokye Chambers, a law firm, and was the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).

Under his leadership at NEIP, approximately 7,000 start-ups received training in 2018 through the Presidential Business Support program, with about 1,350 beneficiaries obtaining funding support.

He held a Doctorate in Business Innovation from the Swiss Business School, Switzerland, and an Executive Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

Dr. Kumah also earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics with Philosophy and Law from the University of Ghana, following his professional Law Certificate from the Ghana School of Law in 2013. He was called to the Ghana Bar in 2013.

  • Journalists have now turned into pathologists and prophets – Sefa Kayi over John Kumah’s poisoned claims

Journalists have now turned into pathologists and prophets – Sefa Kayi over John Kumah’s poisoned claims

Renowned broadcaster Kwami Sefa Kayi, host of the popular morning show “Kokrokoo” on Peace FM in Ghana, has advised journalists against spreading unfounded speculations regarding the death of Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah.

John Kumah passed away last Thursday on his way to the hospital, leaving behind a wife and six children.

In the wake of his death, there have been various rumors circulating about the cause.

Some reports, notably from Onua TV’s morning show Presenter Captain Smart, suggest that the late Deputy Minister succumbed to food poisoning, allegedly as part of a plot to prevent his ascent within the New Patriotic Party.

Without singling out anyone, Kwami Sefa Kayi criticized the journalistic practice of making claims without evidence, especially concerning sensitive matters like someone’s death.

He questioned whether those asserting food poisoning had considered the potential harm their comments might inflict on the grieving family, particularly the widow and her children.

Sefa Kayi expressed concern over the erosion of ethical standards among journalists, noting the tendency for some to act as both pathologists and prophets in discussing the causes of a person’s death.

He emphasized the need for evidence before making such serious allegations.

In response to the situation, the widow of John Kumah has taken legal action against Captain Smart, demanding substantiation of his claims in court.

She expressed frustration and sadness over the false claims, urging authorities to hold Captain Smart accountable for spreading misinformation.

“If it is true that a person who is not dead but alive claims that he knows how my husband (John Kumah) died and that he was poisoned, and that person is still moving around for the past three weeks, it hurts me, it saddens me and I do not know how best to express my frustrations about these false claims by Captain Smart”, the widow lamented in an interview on Asaase radio.

She added; “If there are laws in this country concerning such false claims, I think this is the time for the leadership of the land to bring that wicked person (Captain Smart) to book to prove his false claims and to point out the persons who were involved in the poisoning of my late husband.”

“This is why I am saying the National Media Commission, GJA, Media Foundation for West Africa, as for this, I plead with you to say something because we are the journalists doing the work and we should be able to look at ourselves and say these are low, low dirty standards.”

On his show, Sefa Kayi called upon the National Media Commission, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), and the Media Foundation for West Africa to address the issue, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high journalistic standards.

“Journalists have now turned into pathologists and Prophets…We’ve lost ethics as human beings. Someone is dead and in no time, people are on radio and TV discussing the cause of his death. His wife has filed a complaint. If right now, you who claim to know he was poisoned is asked to provide evidence, where are you going to get the evidence?”, Mr. Sefa Kayi admonished.

“Why is it that someone (referring to Captain Smart) has been this bold to claim that he knows for a fact that a person like John Kumah who has served his country virtually all his life, was poisoned, while he was working for his country and party (New Patriotic Party, NPP), why should we sit down and not bring that person to book.

NPP working hard to destroy prophets – Nigel Gaisie

The founder and leader of Hope Generation Ministry International, Prophet Dr. Nana Akwesi Amponsah, widely known as Nigel Gaisie, has expressed concerns over what he perceives as a concerted effort by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to discredit and undermine prophets.

In a recent Facebook live video, the prophet addressed the criticism aimed at him for prophesying the death of the late Deputy Minister of Finance, John Kumah.

Emphasizing his commitment to his prophetic role, Nigel Gaisie stated that attempts to tarnish the reputation of prophets are part of an alleged agenda by the NPP.

During a Facebook live session on Monday, March 11 2024, prophet Nigel Gaisie stated that he remains resolute in his claim that he foresaw the tragic event that befell the late Deputy Minister of Finance, John Kumah.

In the video, he dismissed allegations attempting to tarnish his reputation, asserting, “The only thing they can say is that we prophets are womanizers, it is normal if you know we don’t really have time. I am too busy for this thing. It is the agenda of the NPP to destroy prophets. You can’t discredit Prophet Nigel.”

Emphasizing the validity of his prophecy, Gaisie stated, “Indeed I saw it [death],” cautioning the public not to dismiss prophetic messages lightly.

These statements come in response to Apostle Lilian Kumah, the wife of the late John Kumah, who refuted prophet Gaisie’s prophecy.

In an interview with Asaase Radio on Sunday, March 10, she revealed a personal connection between her family and the prophet.

Lilian Kumah argued that Mr Gaisie was well aware of John Kumah’s health condition since November 2023, questioning the authenticity of the prophecy.

“Nigel Gaisie was like a brother. He knows my late husband, lawyer John Kumah personally, one-on-one. We have sat in this house and eaten together several times. That is how far we go. When he came from abroad to start a church in Ghana, he came to my church, Disciples of Christ Ministries and I did a programme with him dubbed “Let the Prophet Speak”.

“We know him very well and have been aware since November 2023 that the late John Kumah was seriously sick. My husband had a lot of respect for men of Ghana in this country and that included Nigel Gaisie when my husband and I thought he was a genuine man of God,” Apostle Lilian Kumah stated.

“Nigel Gaisie knew very well that my husband was terminally ill as far back as August 2023 but regardless of that, he stood on his altar on 31st December 2023 to lie through his supposed prophesy that a Ghanaian deputy minister will die in the year 2024.

“What does he want to achieve through these fake prophesies?” John Kumah’s widow further stated.

John Kumah, the 45-year-old lawmaker for Ejisu, passed away on Thursday, March 7, leaving behind a wife and six children.

The controversy surrounding Mr Gaisie’s prophecy has ignited debates about the credibility of such predictions and their impact on individuals and families.
