  • Your name is Fati not Celestina and your father is a watchman — NPP youth in FB beef, Salam cited (flashback)

Your name is Fati not Celestina and your father is a watchman — NPP youth in FB beef, Salam cited (flashback)

Following the just-ended youth elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), social media communicators within the party are engaged in a heated exchange on social media platforms.

Reports indicate that Celestina Abena Henewaa Amoako-Atta, known as Fati from the North, publicly referred to her colleague communicator, Atick Yakubu, as “a gossip” in Twi under a post made by another party member.

Atick Yakubu, displeased with the description, retaliated by disclosing the background of his disagreement with Celestina Amoako-Atta, including sharing chat records between them.

The chat records revealed a disagreement between the two regarding the NPP Youth Election, which was won by Mustapha Salam. Mustapha had attempted to resolve an issue with Celestina Amoako-Atta, but she did not support him, while Atick Yakubu did.

In his response, Atick Yakubu revealed Celestina’s true identity as Fati from the North and highlighted that her father works as a watchman, contrary to claims of being allegedly related to Asante Bediatuo.

Read the full post by Yakubu below:

Gm , Celestina Abena Henewaa Amoako-Atta , ordinarily , I do not reply my juniors and people my little brother is older than in kind . That’s not my style . You know , class is not money but attitude and when it comes to attitude am richer than Elon Musk . But I chose this medium because it seems you have fooled for soo long and no one seem to mind you for whichever reason . Maybe it could be you have sworn an affidavit to change your name from Fati whatever horrible surname you were given to “Amoako-Atta “ to gain some validation. I understand your pain but in this life eeeh accept who you are and no one can use it against you . When I call people on phone , I introduce myself as “Atick Yakubu “ . That’s confidence , that’s high self-esteem. As a northerner , you gotta be proud of where you come from . After all Mahamdu Bawumia is the veep and and even the southerners think his name is sexy . If Mahamudu is sexy , how much more “Fati “ . Embrace who  you are . That’s the beginning of having a high self esteem. This is free therapy. I will help you with your other psychological problems later . And that’s also for free . Am doing this for free cos no matter what , you are our northern sister . No matter what you are now or trying to be I got your back sis .

Nonetheless, am proud of what you were able to achieve this with ”Celestina Amoako-Atta “ . At least you had a scholarship to go study abroad from the people whom your father used to be a “watchman “ for . They have done well . At least as daughter of a watchman, your inheritance would have been a mat , a torchlight and buta “ and maybe a little bottle for “pito “ but you have made a good deal with this . At least all the nights daddy was bitten by mosquitoes didn’t go in vain . My only disappointment is that you came back with too much piercings and tattoo than 2pac shakur. I pray you never get that money you pray soo much for to go do that liposuction on your tinny ass . Aside me wanting to lose a northern sister , I think an ass won’t be look good on you . You look like a tripod stand with your lanky legs and that will be a disgusting sight for some of us . On behalf of all men who love thick , we banish you from having ass in the name of Jesus. Again since  you are good with name changes you can as well add 2pac to your name . His inspiration for tattoos  and piercings can’t go unnoticed.

Enough of the introduction. Now let me get to the topic . I woke up to see my little northern sister insulting me on a post someone made on me . Soo this is the genesis of the issue . During the NYO contest , I noticed she was throwing shades at Salam . I had some reservations in relation to Mercedes I personally called Mercy and foster  cos we go way back . She told me her comments and posts were taken  out of context . I respectfully went with her narrative. She’s among those who worked soo hard for the party in opposition unlike Fati who came from nowhere , called my line and introduced herself as whoever and wanted my support for a position she was running for . I knew she wouldn’t win but then I opened the channel of communication with her . She eventually lost , she tried getting closer and by posting my pics with some “am cool “ with you captions when we weren’t that cool . Like some “ahohy3hy3 vibes . At a point I had to send her a message to delete a post she once made and she unfriended me and sent another request months later . I wasn’t definitely going to roll with someone who seem to begging for attention. That “fake it till you make it “ life is not my kind . It’s the first stage of mental sickness.

Back to the topic , I called Salam and I asked him if he had reached out to Mercy and Celestina. Mercy was needed but it’s politics soo you have to manage everyone even with those who are think they mattered like Celestina. I don’t know how  Salam managed it with the lady and the girl . But eventually I reached out to Fati to ask her what’s up ?  I still have my chats with her . All of a sudden she assumed the position of seemingly relevance like I had reported her and blah blah and I have put her in trouble etc . In fact I was confused soo the usual me was plain with her . I told her she didn’t have anything to add to the election and it came out of the fact that she said something whoever she threw her support for will be the next NYO or so and I was like who do you think you are ? You have no idea of how Youth elections are run , you don’t have money to influence things , you don’t have any influence .

The next thing I realized is she unfriended me cos probably she was soo fighting for the relevance and self importance and I rubbished her . I was just being me . On that issue if my little Northern sister Fati felt insulted, I apologize though I was stating the obvious which became evident. I never engaged her for all those time till today when she went to write this comment about me .

Now let me make something clear to you . Look , me eeh I can fight . You have no idea what you are dealing with here . Am not a beast . My creation is still not defined . Whichever angle you take this too I will beat you to it .

It’s kinda uncomfortable taking on a little girl . I deal with cats but not just any cat but lions , tigers , leopards and cheetahs not Domesticated cats . It’s soo uncomfortable but I gotta put you where you belong . Nothing pains me more than using my data on someone like you but trust me you will pay for it . Aside my dear Hon Cos Premanii whom I have signed a perpetual bond to fight with and make up I do not engage ladies but take note , the word I used was “ladies “ .  below is the chats between she and I  that led to this nonsense this morning.

And those close to her should talk to her . She won’t like it when I place her in my red book . And am also not amongst those who she bullies on Facebook . In fact not even those she has adopted their name can bully me . Tweeea Kai

  • GJA blacklists another NPP MP after attack on journalist during primaries in Yendi

GJA blacklists another NPP MP after attack on journalist during primaries in Yendi

President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has made headlines by blacklisting two prominent members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) within a span of two weeks, following separate incidents of assault on journalists.

The first case involves the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson. On January 4, 2024, journalist David Kobbina of Cape FM was assaulted while covering the vetting of NPP parliamentary aspirants in the Awutu Senya East constituency. Kobbina reported being attacked by individuals allegedly affiliated with Hawa Koomson’s camp, despite his protests of mistaken identity. Despite the minister’s denial of involvement, the GJA President directed the media to blacklist her, citing the lack of justice for the assaulted journalist.

Speaking at a press conference on January 25, 2024, Dwumfour emphasized, “We are saying all media houses and all journalists shouldn’t report anything about Hawa Koomson even though she wasn’t the one who assaulted the journalist but her people whom she can identify and hand them over.”

In a similar vein, the GJA President addressed another assault case involving the Member of Parliament for Yendi, Farouk Aliu Mahama, during the NPP’s parliamentary primaries on January 27, 2024. Journalist Mohammed Aminu Alabira of Citi FM reported being physically assaulted by Farouk Aliu Mahama himself while filing a live report amidst chaotic scenes. Dwumfour condemned the assault and subsequently called for a media blacklist against Farouk Aliu Mahama.

During a press briefing on February 6, 2024, Dwumfour revealed receiving a personal threat from Farouk Aliu Mahama, further escalating tensions between the media and the MP. He stated, “If Honourable Farouk is listening, I see it as a personal threat and I will deal with it as such. We are ready to meet him in court and wherever he wants to take the matter to.”

The unprecedented move by the GJA to blacklist two high-ranking NPP members underscores the association’s commitment to protecting journalists and holding perpetrators of violence against the media accountable. As the Ghanaian media community awaits further developments, the incidents highlight broader concerns regarding press freedom and safety in the country.

Leave NAM1 alone, you are also corrupt – Blakk Rasta jabs Mahama

Renowned radio personality and musician, Blakk Rasta, has voiced strong criticism against former President John Dramani Mahama.

He has demanded that the ex-president addresses alleged corruption that occurred within his administration.

In a recent broadcast, Blakk Rasta voiced dissatisfaction with Mahama’s commitment to recover funds that NAM1, the embattled businessman, unlawfully took from individuals.

NAM1 and his companies, Menzgold Ghana Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Ghana Limited, face charges of defrauding by false pretences, inducing public investment, and money laundering.

Blakk Rasta emphasized the need for Mahama to address concerns about the misallocation of funds during his tenure, stating, “Chase all the corrupt people you spent corrupt money on. You should be investigated.”

“Chase all the corrupt people you spent corrupt money on. You should be investigated. You are investigating a young man who is trying to put his life together. NAM1 started in your regime, was in your regime and made things happen.

Rasta accused the former president of initiating an investigation into a young man, NAM1, who is endeavoring to rebuild his life.

The radio personality pointed out that NAM1’s business endeavors commenced during Mahama’s regime, suggesting a lack of scrutiny at the time.

Blakk Rasta alleged that it was only when subsequent administrations took charge that NAM1 encountered significant challenges, leading to the confiscation of his assets by the State.

“You didn’t see anything wrong with it until the old men came into power and messed up the man’s business. Now you have the mouth to say that if I come into power I will chase NAM1 and get all the money. Who is NAM1 to be walking free? Don’t do that, you are not being smart when you say that.

Furthermore, Blakk Rasta called on Mahama to address other unresolved issues, such as the infamous ‘Guinea fowls’ that supposedly migrated to Burkina Faso during Mahama’s presidency.

“Mahama please chase the Guinea fowls that flew to Burkina Faso, Mr ex-president chase RL&G that you gave so much money to and issue came out of that. Mr ex-president chases all the slay queens who are mentioning your names all over the place,” he added.

Additionally, he urged the ex-president to investigate the financial dealings with RL&G, a matter that stirred controversy during Mahama’s term.

Blakk Rasta didn’t shy away from addressing Mahama’s association with individuals he referred to as “slay queens” who have been vocal about their ties with the former president.

He encouraged Mahama to address these allegations and take appropriate action. Blakk Rasta also cautioned Mahama against making promises to pursue legal action against NAM1, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into allegations of corruption during Mahama’s tenure.

GJA issues 10-day ultimatum to NPP and police to act on alleged assault on journalist

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has issued a stern ultimatum to both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Ghana Police Service following allegations of assault on a journalist, Mohammed Aminu M. Alabira, by the Member of Parliament for Yendi, Farouk Aliu Mahama.

The incident reportedly took place amidst chaos during the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary in the Yendi constituency on January 27, 2024. According to accounts, Farouk Mahama and his team purportedly attacked Alabira while he was covering the event.

During a press briefing held on February 6, 2024, the GJA, alongside other key media bodies such as the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG), and the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), collectively threatened to take action if the NPP and police fail to address the matter promptly.

The media groups demanded justice for Alabira and called on the NPP leadership at both national and regional levels to hold the MP and his associates accountable for their alleged actions. They urged swift action to ensure that those responsible face the consequences of their actions.

In their statement, the media bodies emphasized the urgency of the situation, giving the NPP and the Ghana Police Service a ten-day ultimatum to respond. They called for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and emphasized the need for thorough investigations to ensure justice is served.

“We are giving the NPP, Regional and National, and the Ghana Police Service ten (10) days ultimatum each to hear from them. They should arrest the perpetrators. If they fail, we shall advise ourselves,” the statement read.

Furthermore, the groups highlighted the importance of accountability and urged the Ghana Police Service to expedite their investigation into the matter. They stressed the significance of ensuring that such incidents do not go unpunished and called for the perpetrators to be brought before the court to face the full force of the law.

Meanwhile, Farouk Mahama has denied the allegations of assault on the journalist and has threatened to take legal action against his accuser. The situation remains tense as stakeholders await responses from the NPP leadership and the Ghana Police Service within the stipulated timeframe.

Show me just a single thing Bawumia promised to do but still hasn’t done – Gideon Baako throws challenge

Senior Analyst for Sub-Saharan Africa at Fitch Solutions and spokesperson for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako, has defended Bawumia’s competence, asserting his suitability to become the next president of Ghana in the 2024 elections.

Highlighting various accomplishments of the vice president since taking office, Dr. Boako challenged critics who label the vice president as all talk and no action to identify a single promise he made in opposition that he has not fulfilled since assuming office.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show with host Kwame Sefa Kaye, Dr. Boako emphasised that everything Dr. Bawumia extensively lectured on while in opposition has been realised.

And these interventions, he said, have alleviated the burdens of middle-class men like himself.

He said, “Bawumia’s interventions since assuming the vice presidency have alleviated some of our burdens. These are the issues he extensively lectured on while we were in opposition. However, today, there is little to show for it.

I challenge anyone to dispute that while we were in opposition, Bawumia made numerous promises, and none have come to fruition.I want to be challenged, but there is not a single person to do so because everything Bawumia said, he has accomplished.”

Citing some achievements of Dr Bawumia and its impact on the Ghanaian economy, Dr Baako mentioned that
“For instance, he introduced the Ghana Card system, which has simplified borrower tracking for banks.
Banks can now easily identify and trace borrowers, leading to reduced interest rates as a result of mitigated borrowing risks.”

If elected in the upcoming 2024 elections, Dr Bawumia and his wife stand to break several historic records that would reshape Ghana’s political landscape and reflect the nation’s evolving diversity and inclusivity.

First Northerner to Lead the NPP: Dr Bawumia’s candidacy marks a historic moment as he becomes the first northerner to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP), breaking from the traditional southern stronghold of the party’s leadership.

First Muslim to Lead a Major Political Party in Ghana: Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy as the NPP Flagbearer makes him the first Muslim to lead a major political party in Ghana, symbolizing a step towards religious diversity and representation in the nation’s political arena.

First Vice President to Become Presidential Candidate of the NPP: Unlike previous instances in the NPP’s history, Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy marks the first time a Vice President has risen to become the party’s presidential candidate, showcasing a unique trajectory in his political career.

First Muslim President of Ghana: Should Dr. Bawumia emerge victorious in the 2024 elections, he would become Ghana’s first Muslim President, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s history of religious representation at the highest level of governance.

First Muslim to Lead Both Major Political Parties: Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy extends beyond party lines, as he becomes the only Muslim to lead both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), highlighting his broad appeal and national significance.

First Vice President from the NPP to Become President: Dr. Bawumia’s potential presidency would break new ground within the NPP, as he becomes the first Vice President produced by the party to ascend to the presidency, signaling a shift in leadership dynamics.

First Muslim First Lady: In the event of Dr. Bawumia’s victory, his wife, Second Lady Samira Bawumia, would become Ghana’s first Muslim First Lady in the 4th Republic, adding another layer of diversity to the nation’s political landscape.

First First Lady with Northern Heritage: Additionally, Second Lady Samira Bawumia would be the first First Lady to hail from the northern part of Ghana, offering a new perspective and representation for the region at the highest levels of government.

Chairman Wontumi calls on defeated Parliamentary aspirants to rally behind NPP’s campaign for 2024 elections

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has issued a rallying cry to defeated parliamentary aspirants, urging them to actively contribute to the party’s campaign efforts ahead of the 2024 general election.

In a closed-door meeting with candidates who contested in the party’s parliamentary primaries on Monday, February 5, 2024, Chairman Wontumi expressed appreciation for their participation while emphasizing the importance of unity and collective action in securing victory for the NPP.

“Our party has always recognized those who work hard, so, if you lost in the primaries, please go back to your constituency and support the one who won,” Wontumi stated, highlighting the need for solidarity within the party ranks.

He assured the aspirants that active participation in the campaign would not go unnoticed, hinting at potential rewards under a future NPP government led by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“The Vice President will definitely reward all of us in his government if the NPP breaks the 8 ‘Isha Allah’,” Wontumi affirmed, referencing the party’s aspiration to secure a third consecutive term in office.

Highlighting the importance of unity and cohesion within the party, Wontumi expressed confidence in the NPP’s ability to secure victory in the upcoming election. He emphasized the party’s commitment to building a better Ghana and asserted that the NDC posed no threat to their electoral prospects.

“As for the NDC, they are not the hope, so when we move into the election with a united force, we’ll win,” Wontumi declared, exuding optimism about the party’s electoral prospects.

The call to action comes following the conclusion of the NPP’s internal elections on January 27, 2024, which saw the election of parliamentary candidates in constituencies where the party has sitting MPs. Notably, 28 sitting MPs lost their bid for re-election, signaling a potential shift in dynamics within the party.

With Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia elected as the party’s presidential candidate in November 2023, the NPP gears up for a spirited campaign as it seeks to retain power and continue its agenda of development and progress for the people of Ghana.

  • “All the NPP knows how to do is name universities that people have built” – Koku Anyidoho

“All the NPP knows how to do is name universities that people have built” – Koku Anyidoho

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has condemned the New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserting that they make no contribution to infrastructure development in the country.

Former President Mahama contends that the NDC initiated and built each public university, accusing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of merely renaming them.

This claim was backed by Koku Anyidoho who stated that the NPP focuses on renaming existing structures that have already been built.

“We are known as nation builders because of the number of schools we have built. Every public university was initiated and built by us. All the NPP knows how to do is name universities that people have built,” Mr Anyidoho stated.

Additionally, Koku Anyidoho, (President) has questioned the assertion made by former President John Dramani Mahama that the NDC constructed all public universities.

“Did NDC really build all Public Universities? Prez Rawlings established UDS, President Mills established, UHAS, Volta, UNER, B/A, USD Eastern. Which one did [Mahama] establish? Rather he created a green book and sought to appropriate all projects of Prez Mills.”

He added “24hr economy to be used for honeymoon and University name change – not for, Creating Jobs, Investing in People, Expanding Infrastructure, Governing in an Open, Honest & Transparent manner. Obviously, [John Mahama] never believed in the Better Ghana Agenda of Prez Mills. God save Ghana.”

  • NPP’s Youth Organizer Diaspora resigns from party

NPP’s Youth Organizer Diaspora resigns from party

Youth Organizer Diaspora of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP)– Spain Branch, Hanson Dartey, has officially resigned from the party with immediate effect.

In a press statement, Mr Dartey expressed his apologies for the sudden nature of his decision and humbly requested the acceptance of his resignation from the position of NPP Spain Branch Youth Organizer.

Mr Dartey explained that he believed the party had strayed from its core values and had given in to greed and corruption.

He asserted that the values that initially attracted him to the party, such as the commitment to fighting corruption and contributing to the country’s development, are no longer apparent.

“The party has adopted an individualistic approach, with leaders prioritizing personal interests over group interests. This departure from the principles embodied by leaders such as Dr. Busia, J.B Danquah, Da Rocha, and J.H Mensah, whom I admired, is disheartening,” he said in the statement.

As a result, Mr Hanson Dartey found it necessary to step down from his position with immediate effect.

“I do so with a heavy heart but with the conviction that my allegiance should align with a party that upholds the ideals of integrity, collective progress, and service to the nation,” the statement indicated.

He further expressed his gratitude to all party members and colleagues for the camaraderie and support throughout his tenure. He remained open to discussions and hope for a renewed commitment to the values that define the NPP.

Before taking on the role of Youth Organizer, Hanson Dartey served diligently as the Secretary to the Barcelona Chapter and played a crucial role in its establishment.

As an active member since 1996, Dartey made significant contributions, serving as a polling station agent at Sunyani West Constituency’s Nsoatre R/C Primary Polling Station from 1996 to 2004. His commitment over the years led him to bring his extended family from the NDC to the New Patriotic Party, with his two biological brothers currently serving as Coordinator and Polling station agent at Sunyani West Constituency.

In the 2016 elections, Dartey provided motorcycles for the Sunyani West campaign and sponsored 21 individuals to cast their votes at Dormaa West Constituency in Nkrankwanta.

Notably, during the 2004 general election, he prevented a ghost voter from casting a ballot at Sunyani West (Nsoatre R/C Primary), leading to a clash with the then-leading member of the NDC in the Brong Ahafo Region, Nyamkye Maafo, who was a Regional Minister.

About 100 NPP members in Wa defect to NDC

Approximately 100 members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Wa, Northern Region, have formally pledged allegiance to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

During the induction ceremony organized to welcome the new members, Hanna Louisa Bissiw, a member of the National Women’s Organizer of the NDC, expressed that these individuals have made a significant choice for themselves and future generations.

Dr Bissiw asserted that the NPP prioritizes personal gains over the country’s growth, unlike the opposition party.

“Mahama started the Free education system, don’t let anyone deceive you that the NPP did. The NPP came to destroy what the NPP started. Work to bring more NPP members to the NPP. The NPP is in for personal gains and not the growth of the country. Induction of I00 unfaithful members of the NPP,” she stated.

Highlighting the NDC’s commitment to inclusivity, she emphasized that whenever the NDC assumes power, it creates opportunities for various segments of society, including those who attended school, those who did not, market women, and the youth.

“The NDC is a party of opportunities where the needs of the society are catered for. There’s an opportunity for every woman in the NDC, we are family, we love, we support each other. When the NDC comes to power we create opportunities for everyone, for those who went to school, those who did not, for the market women, the girl and boy child and for everyone,” she added.

Bissiw debunked claims suggesting that the NPP initiated the Free Education system, crediting former President Mahama for its inception.

She urged the newly inducted members to encourage their peers to join the NDC, emphasizing the party’s dedication to providing opportunities for all.

Former NPP Executives sacked for ‘betraying’ party

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sagnarigu constituency of the Northern Region has dismissed two former party executives, Abdallah Murjana Wurishie (Electoral Area Women’s Organizer) and Mohammed Osman (Electoral Area Chairman for Wurishie), due to alleged anti-party conduct.

A statement signed by Alhaji A.R Ridwan, the NPP Sagnarigu constituency Secretary, revealed that the dismissed individuals were observed accompanying the NDC parliamentary candidate during campaigning activities against the NPP.

“Despite the fact that you are still on suspension, you continue to flagrantly breach the party’s constitution, particularly Articles (4) and (7) (a), (e), (f), and (g).

In line with Article 3(9) (1) of the NPP Constitution, it provides as follows:

“A member of the party who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected member of the party, or who joins or declares his or her support for another political party, or for an independent candidate, when the party has sponsored a candidate in a general or by-election, automatically forfeits his or her membership in the party.”

“In regards to these constitutional provisions, it is the view that Mohammed Osman and Abdallah Murjana have automatically forfeited their membership in the party. Therefore, they are no longer members of the party.”

A viral video circulating on social media captured Murijana speaking at an event organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Sagnarigu constituency. In the video, she actively campaigned for the Sagnarigu NDC parliamentary candidate, Attah Issah, and encouraged attendees to vote overwhelmingly for the candidate in the 2024 elections.

Additionally, both Abdallah Murjana Wurishie and Mohammed Osman were spotted wearing T-shirts featuring the slogan “24 Hours Economy,” a policy associated with the NDC.

It’s worth noting that Murijana had previously been a prominent communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sagnarigu constituency before her defection to the NDC. She hinted that an official event would be organized later to formally announce her defection, along with her followers in the Sagnarigu constituency.

  • NPP’s Nana B calls for immediate withdrawal of Emission levy

NPP’s Nana B calls for immediate withdrawal of Emission levy

The National Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has strongly advocated for the withdrawal of the recently implemented Emission levy.

Urging the government to retract the levy, Nana B emphasized its perceived unnecessary nature, stating that Ghana has not reached a stage where the imposition of such a levy on petrol and diesel vehicles is justified.

Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM on Friday, February 2, 2024, Nana B conveyed that emission levies are typically imposed on developed countries that have embraced electric cars to combat climate change. In his view, Ghana’s current state of vehicle technology adoption does not warrant the application of such a levy.

Nana B asserted that his stance aligns with the position of the New Patriotic Party, and he urges the Finance Minister to promptly withdraw the emission levy.

The Emission levy, which came into effect on February 1, 2024, is part of the Emissions Levy Act, 2023 (Act 1112). The government justifies its implementation as a measure to address greenhouse gas emissions, promote the use of eco-friendly technology and green energy, and enhance overall environmental management while controlling air and water pollution.

Under section 4(4) of Act 1112, individuals required to issue a road use certificate, such as the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and other testing centers, are mandated to demand evidence of payment of the levy before issuing a Road Use Certificate.

Vehicle owners are advised to register and pay the levy exclusively on the Ghana.gov platform. The levy amounts are categorized as follows:

    1. Motorcycles and tricycles – GH¢75 per annum
    2. Motor vehicles, buses, and coaches up to 3000 cc – GH¢150 per annum
    3. Motor Vehicles, buses, and coaches above 3000 cc – GH¢300 per annum
    4. Cargo trucks and articulated trucks – GH¢300 per annum

It is reported that several branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Hohoe constituency in the Volta Region have defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Sources say notable members out of the six executives are Joseph Yawovi Adzewoda, the Youth Organiser for the Hohoe Midwifery branch, Mr. Bansakal, the Secretary of the Municipal Hospital branch, and Sulemana Mustapha, the Organiser for Janenana electoral Area.

In an interview with Adom News, Mr. Adzewoda cited the massive developmental projects undertaken by the Member of Parliament, John Peter Amewu, and the government in the constituency as the reason for their defection.

They expressed their commitment to supporting and campaigning vigorously for the NPP in the 2024 elections.

The Hohoe NPP Constituency Communication Officer, Samuel Azasu, is reported to have welcomed the defectors to the NPP and encouraged them to promote the party’s accomplishments.

It is anticipated that the two major political parties, NPP and NDC will keenly contest and give each other a run for their money in the 2024 general elections.

Around 20 delegates affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Manhyia North constituency are reportedly feeling uneasy after accepting money from a parliamentary aspirant during the recent primaries but choosing not to vote for him.

This comes after the irate aspirant, Richard Osei Bamfo, demanded a reimbursement of his funds, threatening potential repercussions from the formidable river deity, ‘Antoa Nyamaa,’ for a breach of contract.

Reports indicate that the delegates received amounts ranging from GH¢1000 to GH¢2000 from the aspirant prior to the elections.

However, during a press conference, the contested delegates argued that Mr. Bamfo had generously provided the money for their transportation, expressing confusion over his insistence on a refund.

Nevertheless, Mr. Bamfo is said to have called on any delegate who fails to return the money to face the consequences of ‘Antoa Nyamaa.’

NPP has become a very violent party – Sam George asserts

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, has voiced apprehensions regarding the increasing trend of violence within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and criticized President Akufo-Addo’s apparent silence in response to these incidents.

Speaking on the Good Morning Ghana Show on Metro TV on February 2, Sam George specifically pointed out the president’s failure to address significant acts of violence, including the killing of eight Ghanaians during the 2020 elections and the lack of compensation for victims of the Ayawaso West Wougon violence after five years.

In a stern warning, Sam George remarked, “The pain we feel from Akufo-Addo’s violence, his children, and their grandchildren will feel it.”

He highlighted the absence of acknowledgment or condolences from the president concerning the eight Ghanaians who lost their lives during the 2020 elections, allegedly at the hands of soldiers.

Expressing his lack of surprise at the recent chaos during the NPP parliamentary primaries, Sam George pointed to the party’s history of violence. He recalled the Ayawaso West Wougon violence during the 2019 by-election and underscored the urgent need for accountability.

“I will maintain the fact that I am surprised with what we have seen in Yendi; it is the hallmark of the NPP. They have become a very violent party. Yesterday marked the 5th anniversary of the Ayawaso West Wougon violence. I looked at my yesterday, and I almost wept because this beautiful world would not have lived if I had died 5 years ago,” remarked Sam George during the interview on Thursday.

Reveal your running mate and stop giving us unwanted lectures – Journalist jabs Bawumia

A broadcast journalist with Peace FM, Kwabena Marfo, has advised Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to prioritize naming his running mate over preparing to deliver lectures.

Mr Marfo emphasized that Bawumia, as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 elections, should focus on increasing his visibility, particularly in rural areas, instead of engaging in lectures.

The journalist pointed out that former President John Dramani Mahama, Dr Bawumia’s main contender, is already well-marketed.

He suggested that Bawumia’s efforts should be directed towards nationwide tours and engagement with people in rural areas to enhance his presence and connection with voters.

Naming a running mate, according to Mr Marfo, could contribute to solidifying Bawumia’s campaign strategy and further engaging the electorate.

“I thought he was going to name his running mate, but if he is not going to name his running mate but is going to give his regular speeches, then he should stop because nobody is interested in those talks anymore,” Marfo said in reaction to an advertise lecture by Bawumia later this month.

“Your main opponent is running for the third straight time, in your case, your face hasn’t even appeared on a ballot paper before. So, why would you be lecturing at this time?” he quizzed.

Kwabena Marfo, during an interactive session on Neat FM’s Morning Show on February 1, 2024, further emphasized that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should concentrate on effectively conveying his campaign messages.

“We are fed up with the same trend, incompetent Mahama, economy, GDP and the rest; now the best GDP is in your pocket.

“His Excellency, mention your running mate and start your campaign because the time is limited… Se0lect your running mate and start going on tours, there is no more time,” he added.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is scheduled to deliver an address on February 7, 2024, under the theme “Ghana’s Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future.” The address is expected to focus on the importance of selfless leadership and innovative solutions for the future of Ghana.

NPP parliamentary candidate sends strong warning to Alhassan Suhuyini over NPP projects

New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Tamale North Constituency, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Alidu Abreh, has accused the incumbent MP, Alhassan Suhuyini, of wrongfully claiming credit for government-sponsored projects.

Specifically, Abreh pointed to the ongoing construction of the Kalpohin-Kanvili Kpawumo bridge, asserting that it is entirely funded by the government. He emphasized that the MP played no role in the project, criticizing him for attempting to associate himself with it.

Abreh, eyeing victory in the December elections, pledged to bring positive change to the constituency, accusing Suhuyini of neglecting the area.

“Our government cannot be championing this kind of project and our MP who has run away from the constituency will now come back and be claiming the projects”, Alhaji Abreh told journalists after inspecting the project.

“This particular project, the MP has nothing to do with it. He’s not involved in it at all”, he added.

He said the project was solely funded by the central government through the Department of Urban Roads and is being executed by Ihsan Company Limited.

While commending the Chief of Kpawumo for adding his voice to urban roads, he cautioned the MP to shy away from trying to associate himself with the project.

The NPP parliamentary candidate has promised to win the seat for his party for the first time when Ghana goes to the polls in December.

He has repeatedly accused Alhaji Suhuyini of abandoning the constituency and doing little to improve the lives of the people, a situation he has promised to change when voted into power.

  • I don’t pity politicians – Ben Ephson says as he blames politicians for monetisation woes in politics

I don’t pity politicians – Ben Ephson says as he blames politicians for monetisation woes in politics

Renowned Ghanaian pollster, Ben Ephson, has expressed his lack of sympathy for politicians grappling with the issue of monetization in the country.

Ephson, known for his insightful analysis of political dynamics, made these remarks following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries on Saturday, January 27, 2023.

Ephson unequivocally laid the blame at the feet of politicians for the rising trend of monetization in politics, stating, “As for the moneyocracy, it is the politicians who have brought it, so they should deal with it.”

When pressed on whether he pitied politicians in light of the challenges posed by the monetization of politics, Ephson responded with a resounding, “Not at all, politicians I don’t pity them; they have brought it.”

The issue of monetization has been a prominent concern in Ghanaian politics, especially in the aftermath of the NPP’s parliamentary primaries, where 28 sitting parliamentarians lost their bids for re-election. Additionally, over a dozen others decided against seeking re-election, with various reasons cited, including personal considerations and the increasing financial burden of running for public office.

Politicians across the spectrum have faced criticism for the perceived influence of money in electoral processes, with concerns about the potential distortion of democratic principles. Ephson’s straightforward perspective sheds light on the internal challenges within political circles and underscores the need for self-reflection and accountability among politicians.

As Ghana navigates its political landscape, Ephson’s commentary adds a crucial dimension to the ongoing discourse about the role of money in politics, challenging politicians to address the root causes of monetization and its impact on the democratic process.

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a cousin of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, recently announced his retirement during an interview on Asaase Radio.

He cited frustration with prevailing narratives and expressed disappointment with the governing New Patriotic Party’s lack of recognition for the government’s achievements.

Mr Otchere-Darko, in an interview on Asaase Radio on Wednesday, January 31, acknowledged the substantial progress made by the Akufo-Addo-led government in navigating the challenging economic landscape between 2021 and 2022.

He however noted that these achievements he talks off have not been well communicated by the NPP, hence his decision to step back from local politics.

“I have retired from domestic politics. I get somehow frustrated by the narratives, and the big disappointment I have is with the governing New Patriotic Party itself, it is the lack of recognition of the work that they have done. For me, it’s a major disappointment…there is one thing we must admit, 2022 was extremely difficult, 2021 to 2022 was extremely difficult,” he said.

Despite facing severe economic challenges from 2021 till now, he highlighted that various policies implemented by the administration successfully prevented Ghanaians from enduring queues for essential products and services.

Be wary when making public utterances – Obiri Boahen to Wontumi

Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has urged NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, to be more cautious in his public statements.

This advice follows Chairman Wontumi’s clearance by Manhyia over an alleged disrespectful comment towards the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Obiri Boahen, speaking on Okay FM on January 30, 2024, commended Bantemahene Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI for his handling of the matter.

He emphasized the need for discretion in language, advising all NPP executives, including himself, to carefully choose their words in the public domain.

In the interview, Obiri Boahen stated, “You see, I will give advice on both sides. The Bantemahene did very well; he handled the issue well…I will advise Chairman Wontumi to exercise discretion in his language because we have to consider where we are, the environment, the people, and what we are about to say.

“So, the advice I will give to Chairman Wontumi and all NPP executives, including myself, is that we should be careful with our words,” he said.

He added “And the chiefs also, they have to be careful a bit because if the Kokosohene did not go and report this, I am not sure all these things would have come up,” added Obiri Boahen.

He also highlighted the role of the chiefs, urging them to exercise caution and avoid bringing political issues to the Manhyia Palace.

The Asanteman Traditional Council dropped charges against Chairman Wontumi after a hearing, advising the accuser, Kokosuhene Nana Kwaku Duah, to refrain from involving political matters in the Manhyia Palace.

  • You don’t vote for NPP that is why your roads are bad – Mahama tells Krobo constituents

You don’t vote for NPP that is why your roads are bad – Mahama tells Krobo constituents

Former president, John Dramani Mahama has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of neglecting road infrastructure in the Krobo area, citing perceived political bias as the root cause.

Mahama’s comments are prompted by President Akufo-Addo’s recent statements on developmental challenges in Ekumfi and Mepe, suggesting that areas not aligned with the NPP face development neglect.

Mahama expressed disapproval of what he sees as discriminatory remarks, emphasizing the need for a president to use inclusive language.

Addressing stakeholders in Agormanya, Mahama criticizes Akufo-Addo’s approach, stating, “A President should not talk like that,” and underscores the importance of fair and unbiased development distribution.

Mahama pointed out his disappointment with the neglected state of Krobo roads, attributing it to the president’s alleged disregard for areas where his party lacks support.

“I was saddened when I drove on the road today but I am not surprised because this President has decided not to develop parts of the country where his party doesn’t get votes. Because he went to Mepe during the flood disaster and said he came because he is President because the people don’t vote for him,” Mahama said.

He added “a President should not talk like that. Recently, the people of Ekumfi visited him and they appealed for development only for President Akufo Addo to tell them because they voted against his MP. So I am not surprised he has neglected Krobo people because everybody knows your political affiliation. That is why for the past 8 years your roads have been left to deteriorate”.

Mahama reassured that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) does not engage in discrimination and pledges an equitable distribution of development if the party comes into power.

As part of his two-day Building Ghana campaign tour in the Eastern region starting on January 30, 2024, the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, aims to engage with communities and key stakeholders to underscore the party’s commitment to national development.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Public Sector Reforms, Thomas Kusi Boafo, has highlighted the formidable task the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would encounter in making a comeback if they were to lose power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

During an interview on the Wontumi TV/Radio Morning Show with Oheneba Nana Asiedu, Mr. Kusi Boafo highlighted the NDC’s history of causing destruction and undermining successful projects.

He specifically mentioned infrastructural endeavors like the Suame interchange and the Boankra inland port, as well as policies such as the Free SHS, asserting that the NDC lacks a track record of implementing transformative policies.

“The policies and programs implemented by this government, if not safeguarded by winning the 2024 elections, the financial implications to repair damages caused by the NDC and secure victory in the next elections would surpass the costs of winning the election itself,” he stated.

Mr. Kusi Boafo pointed out the NDC’s tendency for visionless governance and leaving damages in their wake after their term in office. He criticized their practice of showcasing NPP’s infrastructure projects in numerous volumes of the ‘Green Book’ during their tenure.

Additionally, he praised Chairman Wontumi for his individual qualities and significant contributions to the party as a Regional Chairman.

Mr. Kusi Boafo expressed confidence that Chairman Wontumi’s name would be forever etched in the party’s history due to his consummate leadership, passion, and lifelong dedication to his chairmanship role. He advised caution, urging Chairman Wontumi to be wary of those around him, as they could potentially contribute to his downfall.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has revealed that three of its personnel sustained injuries in the violence that erupted during the Yendi parliamentary election for the New Patriotic Party on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

The contest, featuring the incumbent Yendi MP, Farouk Aliu Mahama, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, turned violent during the vote counting at the Yendi polling center.

Citi FM/Citi TV’s Northern Regional correspondent, Mohammed Aminu M. Alabira, was assaulted by Yendi MP Farouk Aliu Mahama during the counting process.

Ghana Police Service personnel had to intervene to rescue the journalist, EC officials, and other individuals, moving them to the Yendi Divisional Police Command.

Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), informed Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM that three EC officials were injured during the incident.

“Some of our officers were attacked and injured, and they have been taken to the hospital for treatment. Three of them were attacked, and one was severely injured. We hope that the police will conduct an investigation,” said Dr. Serebour Quaicoe.

He explained, “The information I received from our regional director is that after they had finished casting the ballot, the votes for the various candidates were sorted out and stuck together. They started counting for the incumbent and reached 296 when there was a commotion, and the counting was disrupted. Some of the ballots were destroyed, so we could not declare any results.”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pledged to take decisive action upon receiving comprehensive reports from its regional representative, the Electoral Commission, and the Ghana Police Service regarding the electoral violence that unfolded in Yendi during the party’s parliamentary primary over the weekend.

The counting process for the party’s parliamentary poll on January 27, 2024, was marred by disruptions stemming from allegations of stolen ballots.

The contest featured the incumbent Yendi MP, Farouk Aliu Mahama, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah. Violence erupted during the counting process at the Yendi voting center.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, affirmed that the party’s national executive committee would convene to discuss and decide on the matter once they receive reports from the aforementioned stakeholders.

“As I speak to you, we are yet to receive a formal report from our representative who went to the region, the Electoral Commission, and the Ghana Police Service, and when we get all these reports, the national executive committee will meet to deliberate on them and take a decision on Yendi. For whatever transpired there, once we get the report, the party will take a decision on it.”

He emphasized the need for the full facts before commenting on any action, stating, “Several things happened at Yendi, so unless we have the full facts, it will be difficult to comment on any action.”

Despite the violence and disruption, some NPP executives proceeded to declare the incumbent Yendi MP, Farouk Aliu Mahama, as the parliamentary candidate-elect.

However, the Electoral Commission distanced itself from this declaration.

The alleged assault was carried out by Farouk Aliu Mahama, the Member of Parliament for Yendi, and his team during the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary in the Yendi constituency.

The incident occurred while Alabira was covering the chaos that erupted during the counting process. According to Alabira’s official report to the Yendi Divisional Police Command, he had given the MP an opportunity to share his perspective on the violence during a live report.

Instead of engaging in a dialogue, Alabira claimed that he was slapped by the MP, and his associates further assaulted him, confiscating his phone in the process.

Although Alabira reported having no physical injuries, he stated in an interview with Citi News that the incident had caused him sleepless nights.

“Physically, there are no physical injuries, just that, for the past two days, I don’t know, maybe if I’m overthinking or something, I couldn’t sleep,” Alabira stated.

Volta Regional NPP chairman accuses NDC of exploiting negativity in bid for power

Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Makafui Woanyah, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of strategically hoping for challenges in Ghana under the Akufo-Addo government.

Woanyah claims the NDC aims to capitalize on negativity and use it as leverage in their campaign strategy for the upcoming December 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the acclamation ceremony of John Peter Amewu as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Hohoe in the Volta Region, Woanyah asserted that the NDC‘s focus on negativity is an attempt to secure victory at the polls. He expressed confidence that despite the challenges faced by the country, the NPP-led government, under the leadership of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, would prevail.

“The NDC wants to leverage whatever bad thing will happen in the country to come to power. I can assure you that nothing bad will happen. Today the economy of this country is progressing gradually, and I can assure you that everything will turn in our favor,” Woanyah assured.

He criticized the NDC for allegedly lacking a positive agenda and focusing on negativity rather than presenting their plans for the country. Woanyah questioned the motives behind the NDC’s campaign strategy, especially considering the leadership experience of former President John Mahama.

“NDC is preaching negativity; they are not telling us what they want to come and do in this country. Has John Mahama not led this country? So what is he looking for? What is he saying?” Woanyah questioned.

Woanyah also addressed recent attempts by the NDC to undermine the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy and downplay the performance of its beneficiaries in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). He labeled the comments from the NDC’s presidential candidate as unfortunate and urged voters in the Hohoe Constituency to maintain their faith in the NPP.

“The Free SHS produced a very good result, and we are all happy about it except for the NDC presidential candidate, who said the WASSCE candidates cheated during the examination and did not deserve their grades, which is very unfortunate,” Woanyah stated.

He urged the electorate in Hohoe to vote massively for John Peter Amewu and Vice President Dr. Bawumia, emphasizing the continuation of the digitization agenda and the goal of positioning Ghana on par with developed nations. Woanyah expressed optimism that the NPP would break the eight-year power jinx in the fourth republic and emerge victorious in the 2024 elections.

They emphasized that there is no constitutional provision empowering the President to dictate the voting preferences of Ekumfi or any constituency, the council asserted that individuals have the right to independently decide whom to vote for without external influence.

The Traditional Authority further demanded for scientific data from the Akufo-Addo regarding the former MP’s contributions to justify Akufo-Addo’s assertion.

Omanhene Odeefour Akyin VIII, speaking to the media, deems the President’s comments unfortunate, emphasizing that Ekumfi’s residents exercised democratic rights and should not face repercussions.

“The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was seen in a viral video after some family of the late President Prof. Atta Mills visited him at the Jubilee House, categorically stating that he has denied the people of Ekumfi the much-needed development because they did not vote for Kingsley Ato Cudjoe, the New Patriotic Party candidate in the 2020 elections. There is no provision in the 1992 constitution which mandates the President to decide who the people of Ekumfi or for that matter any other constituency must vote for. We cannot understand why the President has abandoned all ongoing developmental projects in the constituency, particularly the construction of roads.”

“The people of Ekumfi are struggling because they did not vote for his preferred candidate, Kingsley Ato Cudjoe. But I believe that accurate data can justify the President’s claim, and so we need the data. But we want the President to know that the same Ato Cudjoe who is preferred by the President and whose exit from Parliament has become the reason the people have neglected Ekumfi has once again lost miserably in the NPP internal parliamentary primaries. So why must the chief and people of Ekumfi suffer just because of one person who has been neglected by his own party people,” Odeefour Akyin VIII, the Omanhene of Ekumfi Traditional Area, said.

Akufo-Addo’s statement, made during a meeting with the family of late President Prof. Atta Mills, claimed he denied development to Ekumfi for not voting for Ato Cudjoe.

Odeefour Akyin VIII questions the President’s authority to dictate voting choices, expressing bewilderment at the abandonment of ongoing developmental projects, especially road construction.

Highlighting Ekumfi’s struggles post-election, Odeefour Akyin VIII calls for accurate data to support the President’s claim.

He notes Ato Cudjoe’s loss in NPP internal parliamentary primaries, questioning why Ekumfi suffers due to one neglected by his own party.

The Ekumfi Omanhene urges Akufo-Addo to fulfill promises made as a father for all, emphasizing the anticipation of stalled developmental projects’ completion.

Odeefour Akyin VIII calls for calm among Ekumfi’s people, assuring efforts to address the issues while emphasizing respect for President Akufo-Addo despite the statement’s unfortunate impact.

I cursed myself to prove a point – Chairman Wontumi

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has indicated that to prove his innocence after being accused of disrespecting the Ashanti kingdom, he swore an oath.

Chairman Wontumi for the umpteenth time, pleaded innocent over allegations of derogatory remarks against the Ashanti Kingdom.

He arrived at Manyhia Palace on Monday to engage members of the Kumasi Traditional Council where he admitted to going to the extreme in his attempt to show his loyalty to the Ashanti Kingdom.

“Everybody knows that I am tough on politicians, but I can never disrespect royalties. I can never say those things. It is not true that I spew those words. That is why I decided to swear and let the outcome of my oath determine my innocence,” he said.

Chairman Wontumi has been on the wanted list of the second-highest decision-making body of the Asante Kingdom, comprising traditional leaders.

On Thursday, January 22, 2024, the Kumasi Traditional Council directed the NPP, led by its General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, to produce Chairman Wontumi for an appearance regarding alleged derogatory remarks against the Asantehene.

This directive follows a confrontation between Mr. Antwi Boasiako and the Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Dua, during the recent vetting of parliamentary aspirants in the Ashanti region.

Subsequently, Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Dua accused Chairman Wontumi of cursing him by refencing Antoa during a phone call with NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK).

Despite Chairman Wontumi’s denial of the accusations, he was invited by the traditional council for a hearing, which he failed to attend citing health reasons.

The NPP national leadership, seeking more time, appeared before the Council and was instructed to ensure Chairman Wontumi’s presence within one week.

And before the Council today, he reiterated his earlier submission that he never insulted the Ashanti kingdom as alleged.

Following his statement, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been cleared of allegations of disrespecting the Ashanti stool.

Yendi: EC yet to declare winner in NPP Parliamentary Primaries

The NPP Parliamentary Primaries in Yendi concluded without an officially recognized winner, according to the Electoral Commission (EC).

Disruptions during the counting process prevented the declaration of a clear victor.

Even though the official declaration is pending, both candidates, Farouk Mahama and Abibata Shani, have individually claimed victory.

Addressing the matter on JoyNews, Director of Electoral Services for the EC, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoo, underscored that an official winner has yet to be determined.

Simultaneously, concerns have arisen as 28 Majority members lost their bid to contest in the December 2024 Elections during the recently concluded primaries. There is worry that this might adversely affect the functioning of the house, including government business.

Nevertheless, First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu reassures that the significant number of Majority members losing their seats will not impact parliamentary work.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, was at Manhyia Palace to address the chiefs of the Asanteman Traditional Council, following his summons.

Videos online shows Chairman Wontumi being accompanied by a high-powered delegation from his party, including the national chairman, Stephen Ayensu Ntim; the general secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua; the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah; the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Member of Parliament for Suame, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu; and the Minister for Chieftaincy and Regional Integration, Stephen Asamoah Boateng.

While the Asanteman Council has received Chairman Wontumi and the delegation, an ongoing secret meeting is being held by the traditional council before engaging with them.

    Background:

Chairman Wontumi has been declared wanted by the Asanteman Traditional Council, the second-highest decision-making body of the Asante Kingdom. This action was taken after he made comments during the vetting of parliamentary aspirants in the Ashanti Region that were perceived as challenging the authority of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Chairman Wontumi, along with private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw, was supposed to appear before the Kumasi Traditional Council on Monday, January 29, 2024. However, Maurice Ampaw has indicated his unpreparedness to appear before the Council.

Earlier, he was scheduled to meet the Council; however, due to ill health, as disclosed by the Leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he was unable to do so. An ultimatum for Mr. Wontumi to appear before the council by January 29, 2024, was issued, of which he honored.

It was at the January 29 meeting with the chiefs that Chairman Wontumi was cleared of any wrongdoing.

A video shared by Kumasi-based Oyerepa TV showed the Chiefs addressing the matter. In the said video, one of the chiefs argued in favor of Wontumi and further cleared him of any wrongdoing.

He further cautioned the accuser, Kokosuhene, Nana Kwaku Duah, to refrain from bringing political issues to the Manhyia Palace.

“The constitution says that chiefs should refrain from active politics… when the comments were being made Nana Kokosohene should have left the moment, he heard Wontumi say that he cannot even challenge a statement made by the Okyeame – he shouldn’t have sat there,” the chief said in Twi.

The chief also said that Wontumi limited himself to a political kingdom which means his statement was only about the NPP and not Asantehene and the Asantehene.

His main contender, Bice Osei-Kuffuor, the Managing Director of Ghana Post, secured only 280 votes, representing 32.86% of the total votes cast.

Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw, has accused one Ashanti chief of making advances towards his wife.Narrating his ordeal, he claimed there was a time when the said chief who hails from the Ashanti region attempted to take away his wife under controversial circumstances.

He further disclosed that he got upset over the matter and issued a stern warning to the chief to stay away from his wife or risk being exposed publicly.During an interview, Maurice Ampaw stated that he would petition Otumfuo to deal with the chief in question because his action tarnishes the image of the Ashanti kingdom.

“Some Asante chiefs are womanizers. I am saying this because I have confronted one Ashanti chief who wanted to snatch my wife. Afterwards, I warned him to stay away from my wife otherwise I would expose him to the public and it became an issue.”

Because of this issue, I will petition Asantehene when he returns to the country because he is the only person I can trust. I will present him the evidence and my wife is willing to testify,” he said.

NDC withdraws decision not to attend IPAC meetings

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has withdrawn its decision to stay out of IPAC meetings.

The decision was announced in a statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Fiifi Kwetey.

IPAC meetings are aimed at giving the various political parties the opportunity to review election-related activities and policies, officially air their grievances and make constructive inputs.

It also serves as an advisory body to the Electoral Commission.

The leadership of the NDC boycotted IPAC meetings in 2021, citing “lack of candour, odious duplicity, and open bias that was displayed by the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission in favour of the New Patriotic Party in the conduct of the 2020 general elections.”

In its recent statement, the NDC said it has rescinded the decision after “enhanced consensus-building.”

    Below is the full statement:

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) announces its re-entry into the Inter-Party AdvisoryCommittee (IPAC).

The party anticipates collaborative endeavours that will strengthen Ghana’s electoral system, benefiting not only individual political parties but also upholding the democratic values of the nation.

Stephen Amoah beats contenders in NPP primaries

In a decisive victory, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and Member of Parliament for the Nhyiaeso constituency, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has successfully retained his seat, securing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ticket to contest in the 2024 general elections.

According to a report by TV3, Dr. Stephen Amoah emerged triumphant in the Nhyiaeso constituency parliamentary primaries, securing the maximum votes. While the official results are yet to be declared by the Electoral Commission, the overwhelming support received by Dr. Amoah positions him as the candidate to represent the NPP in the upcoming general elections.

The NPP parliamentary primaries, conducted on January 27, 2023, were a crucial step in the party’s preparations for the 2024 elections. The primaries, held across the country, aimed to elect candidates who would carry the party’s banner into the general elections later in the year.

Dr. Stephen Amoah’s success in retaining the Nhyiaeso constituency seat reflects the continued confidence and support he enjoys from constituents. As the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Amoah has been actively involved in government initiatives and has endeared himself to the people through his commitment to community development and effective representation.

NPP incumbent MPs who shockingly lost their seats

In a series of unexpected twists, several New Patriotic Party (NPP) incumbents experienced shocking defeats, losing their parliamentary seats in the highly anticipated party primaries held today, January 27, 2024, across various constituencies.

The surprising outcomes have left political observers and party members buzzing with speculation about the factors that led to these unexpected upsets.

One of the most notable losses came from the Essikado Ketan constituency, where the former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee Against Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Bissue, secured a resounding victory over the incumbent.

One of the major upsets came in the Tano North constituency, where the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Freda Prempeh, saw her bid for re-election thwarted.
