Delegates reportedly left stranded after Alan’s Besoro cluster campaign

Delegates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who had gathered to meet the party’s presidential candidate hopeful, Alan Kyeremanten, reportedly found themselves stranded following their meeting with him in Besoro.

According to the delegates who were left stranded, Mr. Kyeremanten and his campaign team departed from the campaign grounds immediately after the session concluded.

Several of the delegates have voiced their disappointment with Mr. Kyeremanten’s failure to arrange transportation for their return to their respective constituencies.

In a media interview, one of the delegates remarked that this incident suggests that this is how Mr. Kyeremanten might treat dedicated party members if he were to become the party’s flagbearer.

“This is what Alan has done to us. After his campaign, he has left us stranded here. He has moved with his V8s and left without seeing to our return.”

“See how we are stranded here like people who don’t have anything to do. We are delegates from Kumawu and Drobonso,” one of the delegates said.

NPP Volta organizer sued for defamation

The Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Volta Region, Pope Yao Yevoo, along with Emmanuel Quarshie, the Deputy Organiser of the NPP in the same region, have initiated legal proceedings by filing a defamation lawsuit against the NPP Organizer for the Volta Region, Korsi Bodja.

In their legal action, they are seeking compensation amounting to GH₵1 million for the harm caused by defamatory statements.

Additionally, they are requesting the court to compel the defendant to retract the defamatory remarks and publications, with equal prominence, and to prevent the defendant from making further defamatory comments or publishing damaging statements about them.

The lawsuit, also asks the court to order the defendant to publish the retraction in a manner that matches the original publication’s prominence.

This lawsuit has been prompted by the plaintiffs’ claim that the defendant authored a petition that was subsequently published by various media outlets.

The petition alleged that the plaintiffs intentionally diverted campaign materials intended for distribution within Ewe communities prior to the Assin North Constituency by-election.

The campaign items supposedly included hairdryers, cutlasses, Wellington boots, head pans, fertilizers, and sewing machines.

The plaintiffs assert that the defendant’s petition falsely accused them of wrongdoing, implying that they engaged in dishonest and fraudulent activities.

Pope Yao Yevoo and Emmanuel Quarshie contend that these allegations have caused significant damage to their reputations, resulting in diminished credibility, public scorn, and personal distress.

They claim that the defendant’s actions have tarnished their standing and subjected them to considerable embarrassment.

Consequently, they are seeking not only the financial compensation mentioned but also other remedies as deemed appropriate by the court.

NPP’s Super delegates congress needless, just a distraction – Yaw Buaben Asamoa

Campaign Spokesperson for Alan Kyerematen, Yaw Buaben Asamoa , has described the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Super Delegates Congress as “a needless distraction.”

He believes the congress is unnecessary and an impediment to preparations towards the primaries.

Speaking with Kumasi based Luv FM, he noted that: “At this time that we are going to have this congress, I really think it’s just unnecessary. I think it’s a distraction from the normal campaigning.

He, thus, called on the leadership of the party to consider a review of the constitution such that the congress is totally scrapped from the NPP constitution.

“So really maybe in future, as a party we need to look at that constitutional provision and make it more flexible in order for it to serve the party better,” he noted.

NPP Primaries: Mathew Silas Amoah joins Bolgatanga East contest

A dedicated entrepreneur and philanthropist, Mathew Silas Amoah, has officially submitted his nomination to participate in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Primaries within the Bolgatanga East Constituency, Upper East region.

At the age of 34, he firmly believes that his dynamic youthfulness coupled with his extensive business experience positions him as the optimal choice to spearhead the NPP’s representation in the area.

Amoah remains hopeful that his potential election would result in a successful acquisition of the seat currently held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reflecting his aspiration to contribute significantly to the political landscape.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries, scheduled for August and November 2023, will involve ten candidates.

An initial super delegate conference in August 2023 will narrow the field to five contenders, followed by the main primaries in November 2023 to select the party’s presidential nominee for the 2024 elections.

The roster of candidates includes Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, energy expert Kwadwo Poku, Attorney General and Minister of Justice Joe Ghartey, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former General Secretary of the NPP Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Offinso North Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.

Number of ministries to be reduced under my governance – Kwabena Agyapong

The aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyapong, has pledged to reduce the number of ministries in Parliament when elected president.

Speaking to the media, Mr Agyapong proposed the removal of certain ministries, including the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and the Ministry of Chieftaincy, which previously functioned as a secretariat within the presidency.

He asserted that this strategic reduction of ministries would communicate a resolute moral stance to the Ghanaian populace, particularly during a period of economic revitalization.

He emphasized his commitment to prudent measures aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by Ghanaians.

“If I’m blessed to have the opportunity to be President, I’ll be substantially different. I don’t see why there should be a Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Ministry of Chieftaincy. It used to be a Secretariat at the Presidency.

“So there are many things I want to see cut, especially when we are going through very tough economic times. It is not the quantum of money you save by reducing the Ministries per se but it is the strong moral message you send to the country that you’re tightening your belt leading by example and that you mean what you say,” he added.

The NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries, scheduled for August and November 2023, will involve ten candidates.

An initial super delegate conference in August 2023 will narrow the field to five contenders, followed by the main primaries in November 2023 to select the party’s presidential nominee for the 2024 elections.

6 founding fathers of NPP endorse Afriyie Akoto

A potential contender in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries has conveyed appreciation for the endorsement received from six out of the seven remaining Founding Fathers of the NPP in the Ashanti Region.

The ex-minister of agriculture emphasises that the endorsement carries significant meaning for him.

Six founding fathers have collectively endorsed Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto as the most suitable candidate to maintain the party’s position in power. They committed their backing to Dr. Akoto during a courtesy visit to his residence in Danyame on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

Among the members are Kofi Obiri Yeboah Akwasi, Chairman, Gyeabour Asante, William Asafu-Agyei, George Appiah, Nicholas Kofi Nyantakyi and Peter Kwabena Anokye.

They were led by their Chairman, Kofi Obiri Yeboah.

The Founding Fathers of the UP tradition had gone to Dr. Akoto to interact with him and listen to his vision for the party and Ghana in general.

He has proved, in their opinion, that he is competent in managing the NPP and Ghana in general, given his track record for the party and his appointment as a Cabinet Minister (Minister of Food and Agriculture) under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

In response to the gesture, Dr. Akoto expressed his gratitude to the Founding Fathers and promised to contribute more to the NPP’s success to repay their trust.

“The six are NPP founding fathers.” They were among those who helped create the party in 1992. They informed me that they would like to interact with me whenever I visited the Ashanti Region. They arrived as promised, and following our conversation, they offered their support for me. They probed me and asked about my vision for Ghana and the party.

“They believed in my ideas and said I was still the greatest choice to represent the NPP. They stated that I have proved that I am a results-oriented individual capable of leading the party in the 2024 general elections,” Dr Akoto said.

  • Freda Prempeh’s camp dismisses reports of residents rejecting toilet facility

Freda Prempeh’s camp dismisses reports of residents rejecting toilet facility

A person closely linked to Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr Freda Prempeh, has denied allegations that inhabitants of Yamfo, a locality within the constituency, declined a toilet facility established for them by the MP.

In an interview following the release of the report, Maxwell Ado Agyei, a former first vice chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tano North, emphasized that these claims are solely the product of propagandists.

He clarified that there was no occurrence of such an incident in Yamfo. In fact, he pointed out that a considerable number of residents feel relieved by the initiation of the project, to the extent that the toilet facility is already experiencing high utilization.

Explaining the circumstances surrounding the matter, Maxwell Agyei said that the facility at Yamfo is only one of four that Dr. Freda Prempeh, the MP, had been able to lobby for the constituency.

“It is all lies and falsehood being peddled by someone in particular who wants to contest her for the seat. The toilet was opened yesterday and already, there are several people thronging the place to use it. What is happening is all propaganda and it is not the reflection of what is happening in Yamfo. These people only want to tarnish the good image of the MP.

“The truth is that it is the government that is building these toilets across the country. It was the turn of the middle-belt under the 1 constituency 1 toilet project and the MP was able to lobby for 4 for her constituency, when some places didn’t even get one. It was initially not something that was sponsored by her own money until COVID came and made money issues a little difficult,” he explained.

Maxwell Adu Agyei, who also served as Assemblyman for Tano North, added that with the incessant cries of the people and call on the MP to come to their aid, she eventually released her personal money for the project to be completed at Yamfo.

He added that he was personally involved in the project and as such, it cannot be true that after they completed it and it was opened on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, the people rejected it.

“There are a lot of people in that area but their toilet had been out of use for a long time so the people kept appealing to the MP. I had to call her to put pressure on her about the complaints of the people until she released her personal money for us to use for the project.

“I had to eventually lead carpenters to break the doors of the toilets for us to continue the work because the contractors refused to come around because they had not been paid. We bought paint and other things and fixed the place because Dr Freda Prempeh said she could allow for the place to be under lock when her people badly needed it. After it was done, those who even thought that she was the one behind the closure have been showing gratitude to her,” he added.

Dr. Freda Prempeh, the MP for Tano North, was recently appointed as the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources.

Your call for BoG Governor’s resignation is ‘baseless’ – NPP to NDC

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has labeled the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) demand for the resignation of Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his deputies as a reflection of the NDC’s lack of constructive solutions for economic stabilization.

The NDC had threatened to march to the Bank of Ghana’s premises and force Dr. Addison and his deputies to resign within 21 days, citing what it calls reckless management of the bank.

But speaking to the media, NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, dismissed the NDC’s stance as propaganda, asserting that the NDC was attempting to interfere with the central bank’s decisions.

Ahiagbah questioned, “Is the NDC trying to run the Bank of Ghana now? Is that the point they want to communicate to us, that the Bank of Ghana cannot make a decision until they refer to the NDC?”

He urged the NDC to focus on constructive matters, emphasizing the need to strengthen the ongoing economic recovery and growth trajectory.

Furthermore, Ahiagbah highlighted that the Bank of Ghana’s losses in its 2022 fiscal year are not unique to Ghana, citing similar occurrences in other central banks worldwide. He attributed these challenges to the global economic impact of events like COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukraine conflict.

Ken Agyapong, four other aspirants reached out to me but I declined to support – Atta Akyea

MP representing Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, has disclosed that he turned down offers to support the campaigns of five out of the ten individuals vying for the position of flagbearer in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) contest.

“Dr Bawumia’s track record is unquestionable. He is a man you can trust, and the party shall reward him resoundingly.

“He is the man to take NPP and Ghana to the next level. He is the one who stood in for the party during the election petition. In fact, he never abandoned the party when the going got tough,” Mr Atta Akyea told party faithful in his constituency on Tuesday, August 8.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is presently engaged in an intense campaign across the Eastern Region, seeking to secure the position of the party’s flag bearer in the upcoming general election.

According to Mr. Atta Akyea’s viewpoint, the vice president enters the presidential competition with extensive political expertise and an unparalleled track record, surpassing that of his rivals.

“Five of the aspirants called me and wanted me to support their bids, but I flatly rejected.

“Kennedy Agyapong called me but I decided not to support him even though we were at Adisadel College together.

“Joe Ghartey brought me up as a lawyer, but decided not to support him, as for Boakye Agyarko, he has given me all the books I want but I decided not to support him all because I believe in the ability and capabilities of Dr Bawumia,” Mr Atta Akyea said amid thunderous applause from the gathering.

The MP praised Dr. Bawumia as being the ideal candidate to help the NPP win the upcoming general elections.

The NPP has set 4 November 2023 as the date for its presidential primaries to select a flagbearer for the general election in 2024.

But prior to the main congress, the party will hold a special electoral college on 26th August to cut the number of candidates from ten to five for the main primaries.

Member of Parliament for Akuapem South Osei Bonsu Amoah has endorsed Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy to lead the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 general elections.

He said the mood and the harmony within his constituency show clearly that it is Dr Bawumia the party needs to retain power.

Addressing the party faithful on Monday, August 7, during Dr Bawumia’s campaign visit to his constituency, Mr Amoah said he and his executives would not disappoint him.

According to him, they will ensure that Dr Bawumia tops the August 26 Special Delegates Conference votes.

“Now the time has come again for us to elect the next flagbearer for our great party and you (party faithful) are sending me as your MP and our constituency chairman to go to Koforidua to elect the five that will proceed to the main elections and mostly elect the one that will lead.”

“But if I look at the energy, the zeal, the chemistry, and preparations and all that is ongoing, the message you have given to us is to go and elect Dr Bawumia.”

“So we will not disappoint you and on August 26, the news will not be that only Akuapem South that has elected Dr Bawumia but the whole Ghana,” he said.

Already, other bigwigs within the party, have endorsed Dr Bawumia’s candidature for the flagbearer position.

Okere MP and current Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Daniel Botwe, is among these persons.

He insisted that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the best strategic choice for the NPP in the 2024 elections.

Dan Botwe made this declaration during a gathering of party members in Okere on Sunday, August 6.

Reflecting on his extensive experience within the party, Mr Botwe emphasised his deep knowledge of the NPP and its key figures.

“When it comes to the future of our beloved country, Ghana, the NPP is the only party that can guarantee progress,” Dan Botwe declared, rallying the crowd.”

“After much thoughtful consideration and careful analysis, I am confident that the best strategic decision for the NPP is to elect Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as our flagbearer,” Botwe asserted, prompting applause from the attendees.

He further highlighted what he said was Bawumia’s record of competence and unwavering loyalty to the NPP as the reasons behind his choice.

Notably, this public endorsement from an influential party member like Dan Botwe gives Bawumia’s candidacy a significant boost.

  • Kennedy Agyapong giving GHC200k, cars to constituency executives for vote – NPP executive alleges

Kennedy Agyapong giving GHC200k, cars to constituency executives for vote – NPP executive alleges

Administrator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communicators Directorate, Paul Kwabena Yandoh, has accused flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong of vote-buying in his campaign ahead of the party’s primaries.

The Administrative Manager at Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s office noted that the camp of the Assin Central MP are reported to be giving delegates of the party GHS200,000 as well as cars in order to vote for Mr Agyapong.

Paul Kwabena Yandoh made this claim while refuting reports of vote-buying against the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, by Lawyer William Kusi, the head of the communication team for Kennedy Agyapong in the Ashanti Region.

“Why do you people accuse others from the opposing camp of sharing money? Sometimes, when you meet people, they claim that others are giving away two hundred thousand, plus cars. And now the lawyer is also saying that they are sharing GH¢50,000, which makes the ordinary Ghanaian worry that the NPP primaries is all about money. This is not true, do you understand?,” he said.

According to him, he is certain of vote-buying by the Kennedy Agyapong camp, as their candidate had earlier boasted of being affluent and his willingness to use money to persuade delegates.

“And in any case, aren’t you the same people who claim to have money? Kennedy Agyapong and his supporters, aren’t you the ones who boasted about having money? Now that the conqueror, the champion, the lion is here, you are complaining that someone else is using money to gain votes. You always campaigned for people to vote for someone with wealth; you urged them to vote for Kennedy because he has opened steel factories and achieved other accomplishments.

“The vice president is diligently performing his job, so why is it that there have been so many allegations against him?” he quizzed.

Even your wife has adopted our us – Lower Manya delegates pledge fealty to Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constituency Chairman for Lower Manya Krobo, Emmanuel Nuertey Siakwa, has announced that extensive analysis has led the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency to conclude that Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the sole candidate among the ten flagbearer aspirants capable of leading the NPP to victory in the 2024 elections.

According to him, this realization has sparked a widespread sentiment known as the “strong wind of breaking the 8 with Bawumia,” which the NPP stakeholders in Lower Manya Krobo Constituency strongly support.

During Dr. Bawumia’s visit to the constituency as part of his campaign tour of the Eastern Region, the Constituency Chairman expressed that the decision to endorse Dr. Bawumia was a collective one, aimed at acknowledging his friendship and commitment to the constituency.

He affirmed, “Your Excellency, you are no stranger here. You have been with us throughout the years. Even your wife has embraced this constituency and provided us with her support.”

Pointing to the enthusiasm of the constituents, the Chairman continued, “We are excited to welcome you. We want to align ourselves with the momentum of ‘breaking the 8.’ Lower Manya Krobo is eager to be part of this movement, and we are fully behind you.”

“After a thorough analysis, we are confident that breaking the 8 with Dr. Bawumia is achievable. I’m not suggesting that the other contestants lack intellect, but when all factors are considered, the path to breaking the 8 is feasible with H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpandai constituency in the Northern region, Mathew Nyindam, is highly confident of securing around 98% of delegate votes to become the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate in the 2024 elections.

Nyindam, in contention with Richard Noamah for constituency candidature, filed his nomination on Saturday, citing his unmatched work in the constituency as a key factor for his candidacy.

Asserting his belief in winning the seat back, Nyindam emphasized his commitment to a decent campaign and urged his opponent and supporters to follow suit.

“I think I am the best candidate to win back the seat. My work on the ground is unmatched. The current MP knows he’s on his way out. He is going to be a one-term MP. I am winning the primaries with over 98% of the vote, and my target is the general elections,” he said.

Even if he doesn’t win, Nyindam vowed full support for the winner in the general elections, urging his opponent to do the same.

Council of elders chairman in the constituency, Mr. Agbedji Augustine, stressed unity among delegates and supporters, highlighting the importance of cohesion after the primaries.

“I have been decent throughout my political career. I welcome the advice from the council chairman for us to be decent. I want to ask my colleague to emulate my example. I am also pledging to offer my full support to him if I should lose. I am counting on him too to come on board so that we can recapture the seat,” he said.

Deputy regional secretary of NPP in the Northern region, Bediako Jeremiah, expressed support for Nyindam, noting his local presence and achievements for constituents, deeming him the ideal choice to represent the party.

“I am calling for unity within the party, and I want to urge the delegates to be circumspect of the aspirants. The delegates should know that this is an internal contest, and party unity after the primaries is key,” he said.

“Honourable Mathew is the people’s man. He has been with the people on the ground, and if you ask people, many don’t know Richard Nuamah. He’s NPP alright, but we want a candidate who can win the seat for us in 2024. The work of Hon. Mathew is unmatched,” he added.

Nyindam’s nomination was accompanied by substantial delegate backing, showcasing strong community support for his candidacy.

FLASHBACK: Ken Agyapong threatens to recover all his money before leaving NPP

This article was first published in “December 2013.”

A decade ago, New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, noted that he would only part ways with the party on one condition.

Only after he has retrieved all the money owed him by the party over the 2012 general election will he bid farewell.

He made this statement at a time when Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, who called for a change in the party leadership, had been summoned before the highest advisory body in the party for questioning.

One Iddrisu Musah Superior in a Facebook post, raised concern over the party leadership’s inability to question the Assin Central MP.

The activist and patriot of the NPP based in the United Kingdom said it would come across as unfair should Mr Agyapong not be sanctioned.

In response, Mr Agyapong noted that the party Elders would be “sorry” should they invite him for questioning.

“I have not had any invitation, but if they start with that, they (the party Elders) would be sorry because I just spoke to my partner in China…who are those calling me? I will not honour the call of any of the National Executives. I want neutral people…. What would happen if I leave the party?…I will ensure I recover my monies before I leave”.

“…tell them, if they are listening. They should make $1 million ready before they call me or else, I will not mind them…if they joke with me, they will see what I’ll do to them,” he further warned.

He, however, said “I am ready to leave the party,” but noted that “I’ll reclaim my money before I leave” lest his business get destroyed.

The NPP stalwart made these statements in an interview on NEAT FM.

Ghanaians are not gullible – Akufo-Addo to ‘anti-party’ flagbearer aspirants

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is displeased with certain contenders in the flagbearer race of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who have been criticizing his government.

Speaking in a video from a recent gathering, the president expressed his perplexity over why certain individuals aspiring to represent the NPP in the presidential elections on December 7, 2024, would choose to criticize his administration.

He inquired how the contenders, who are openly criticizing his government, plan to persuade the people of Ghana to support the party in the upcoming 2024 elections if they persist in condemning his administration.

“I don’t see what we gain by attacking the record of our own government. When you do that, then you become the party candidate, what are you going to tell the people?

“That oh, it was Akufo-Addo who mislead you and mismanage affairs. I will be different. Even though I am NPP. I’m still under the elephant sign but I’m different.

“The people of Ghana will be that gullible? No, let us this be serious,” the president said.

Akufo-Addo, therefore, urged members of his party to stop speaking ill of his government and propagate gate its good works.

“So, the question is I think that if we’re talking about the record of the government, my understanding is that every NPP person, communicator, whoever you are… it’s your duty to try and defend that record and make sure that the people of Ghana buy it.

“Because at the end of the day, once this presidential primaries is over, that (the record of his government) is going to be the issue before the country,” he added.

10 people would be contesting in the NPP presidential primaries which are slated for August and November 2023.

A super delegate conference would be held on August 26, 2023, to reduce the number of contenders to five while the main primaries would be held on November 4, 2023, to choose the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.

The ten candidates include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; a former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen; Kwadwo Poku, an energy expert; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey; a former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto; a former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong; MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; a former MP for Offinso North, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku; and a former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has advised candidates seeking the presidential nomination to refrain from suggesting that the party’s electoral roll for the primaries lacks credibility.

Several aspirant campaign teams have voiced concerns, alleging errors in the register.

In an official statement dated August 7 and endorsed by William Yamoah, Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee (EC), the NPP assured that the committee is working closely with presidential aspirants to rectify any errors.

The party emphasized its commitment not only to producing a credible Voter Register but also to ensuring a transparent, fair, and unbiased election process.

Acknowledging past disputes over electoral rolls, the NPP and the Presidential Elections Committee are actively taking measures to prevent such issues in the ongoing contest.

The party expressed dismay over anyone casting doubt on the register’s authenticity to the Ghanaian public.

2013 FLASHBACK: Top NPP executives are thieves – Ken Agyapong

THIS ARTICLE WAS FIRST PUBLISHED IN 2013

The First Vice Chairman for the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Fred Oware, has somewhat okayed Hon Kennedy Agyapong’s labeling of some top executives of the party as “thieves”.

This latest development comes after the Assin Central MP threatened to retrieve all materials and monies he doled out to help the New Patriotic Party during the 2012 elections. Hon Agyapong, who is known to be a major financier of the party, revealed some days ago that certain top executives of the party, selfishly apportioned materials meant for the entire party to themselves.

Fuming with rage, the NPP MP launched a verbal onslaught on the national executives; particularly Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey (NPP National Chairman) and Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (NPP General Secretary).

This generated an outcry within the party, and many called on the elders to sanction Kennedy Agyapong just like they have done to other senior members.

But in an interview with Peacefm, Mr. Fred Oware posited that to put the matter to rest, it would be advisable for Ken Agyapong to name those he handed the materials to; for the executives to deal with the matter.

“It is highly possible that Ken handed over the materials to certain specific people so he should be bold to name them… else he would push the innocent ones to come out answering questions they know nothing about,” he said.

Her aim is to compete in the NPP Ablekuma South Constituency competition in preparation for the upcoming 2024 General Elections.

As a female aspirant, Rita Akweley Addotey made a payment of GHC17,500.00 for the filing fee through a banker’s draft.

She successfully fulfilled all the requirements and procedures following thorough examination, as stipulated by the party’s headquarters, allowing her eligibility to participate in the primaries.

The nomination documents were accepted by the Parliamentary Primaries Elections Committee and the NPP Ablekuma South Constituency Executives, with Constituency Chairman Collins Kofi Asante at the helm.

Akweley, as she is popularly called, was accompanied by her campaign manager, family members, and a team of cheering fans and supporters who pulled up massive support for her.

Also present was Lawyer Nkrabea Effah Dartey, a friend and lead member of her team amongst other key NPP elders.

Lawyer Nkrabea Effah Dartey in a remark assured that Rita Akweley Addotey’s campaign will be devoid of attacks and insults to ensure a smooth and clean campaign since the NPP is one family.

During an interaction with the media, Rita Akweley Addotey, revealed that she has advanced plans to construct some key access roads in the constituency, tackle unemployment by creating some jobs as well as support traders and women who need capital to do business.

She contended that she is the right candidate for the NPP to win the seat from the NDC.

“Today is a happy day for me, I have gone round to campaign, and through the rounds, I have become familiar and deeply aware of the needs and wants, and aspirations of my people. The youth of Ablekuma South need work, our mothers and women need money to work; children need our support and our roads need to be repaired and I have demonstrated so far that I’m more than ready to deliver,” she said. She added, “I’m currently in touch with some NGOs and we have started doing something that explains why I critically need the mandate of the people as their MP to do more for them.”

Touching on the incumbent MP, Hon. Oko Vanderpuije, she lamented that the NDC MP and former Accra Mayor has been woefully disappointing.

“Oko Vanderpuije has given deaf ears to distressed calls demanding to fix some key roads within the communities. The man is not working so I believe the best thing to do is for him to give way to the NPP. I’m the best person to take up this initiative by lobbying and personally getting involved to ensure that our roads are fixed,” Rita Akweley Addotey posited.

On his part, Constituency Chairman Collins Kofi Asante thanked Rita Akweley Addotey and her campaign management team and reiterated the need to do a clean campaign since the enemy for the 2024 contest is not within the NPP but rather the opposition NDC.

6 NPP founders throw support behind Afriyie Akoto

Six out of the seven surviving founding fathers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region have wholeheartedly thrown their support behind Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto as the party’s most viable contender for the coveted flagbearer position.

Described as the ‘Big Six’ due to their substantial influence in contemporary Ghanaian politics, these elder statesmen visited Dr. Akoto at his residence in Danyame on August 5, 2023.

Led by Chairman Kofi Obiri Yeboah, they engaged with Dr. Akoto, delving into his vision for the party and the nation at large.

Their collective aim is to reignite unity within the party as they approach the 2024 general elections.

The esteemed members of this group include Akwasi Gyeabour Asante, William Asafu-Agyei, George Appiah, Nicholas Kofi Nyantakyi, and Peter Kwabena Anokye. The seventh member, Owusu Badu, sought permission from the Chairman to be absent.

The ‘Big Six’ expressed unwavering confidence in Dr. Akoto’s ability to steer both the NPP and Ghana, citing his exemplary track record within the party and his tenure as the Minister of Food and Agriculture under President Akufo-Addo.

This endorsement comes as part of Dr. Akoto’s campaign for the NPP flagbearer position. Similar endorsements have already been received from constituency chairpersons in the Greater Accra, Volta, and Central regions of the country.

Dr. Akoto expressed his elation and gratitude for the support shown by the Founding Fathers, emphasizing the significance of their backing. He highlighted his familial connection to the party’s origins and the role his father played in its formation.

“I am elated by the endorsement of the Founding Fathers of the NPP in the Ashanti Region. The promise that their votes will be for me come August 26, 2023 signifies the confidence they have reposed in me and I am very grateful to them for expressing such huge support for my candidature to bear the flag of the NPP”, he noted.

He added, “this show of support by the Founding Fathers is very significant to me because as you know the origin of the party started with the intervention of my father, Baffour Osei Akoto, who together with others, on the 19th of September, 1994 performed certain rites for the creation of the National Liberation Movement (NLM),made up of the Northern Peoples Party, led by the late S.G Dombo;the Togo Congress and others from the Anlo Youth Organisation and the Greater Accra region came together to form the United Party (UP) soon after independence in 1957.

Allen Gyimah, Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP and Coordinator for ‘Team Akoto’ in the Ashanti Region, underscored the party’s desire for effective leadership in the upcoming elections.

The resounding endorsement from the ‘Big Six’ further solidifies Dr. Akoto’s candidacy as he strives to lead the NPP into the 2024 general elections.

  • I have ensured 88% access to electricity, safe water under my government – Akufo-Addo

I have ensured 88% access to electricity, safe water under my government – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has emphasized the remarkable progress of the country despite challenges.

During the 2023 Founders Day celebrations held at the Jubilee House, he revealed that 88 percent of Ghanaians now have access to safe water and electricity.

He urged the country to acknowledge these milestones amid current difficulties.

President Akufo-Addo reiterated that the pursuit of progress should not be obscured by present uncertainties.

He lauded the increase in national electricity access from 79.3 percent in 2016 to 88.54 percent in 2022, positioning Ghana among the top six countries in Africa.

“Yes, there are difficulties, but let us not forget that 88 percent of Ghanaians presently have access to safe water, the national electricity access rate increased from 79.3 percent in 2016 to 88.54 percent in 2022, making us among the top six in Africa, and we are still expecting to achieve the 90 percent universal access rate by 2024,” he said.

He expressed optimism about achieving a 90 percent universal access rate by 2024.

He emphasized the elimination of financial barriers to education, with free Senior High school education benefiting 1.7 million students. Enrollment figures have reached historic highs, and efforts are underway to ensure gender parity in enrollment.

President Akufo-Addo outlined his commitment to guide Ghana’s transition from a raw material exporter to a value-added industrialized economy.

He acknowledged setbacks caused by factors such as COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine conflict but affirmed the government’s unwavering pursuit of a ‘Ghana Beyond Aid.’

Focusing on modernization, the President emphasized investment in the digital revolution, health, infrastructure, inner-city communities, security agencies, and anti-corruption initiatives. He projected that these efforts would propel Ghana toward becoming a modern, competitive economy.

Paying tribute to Ghana’s founding fathers for their vision and sacrifices, President Akufo-Addo underscored the need to break free from neo-colonial economic structures.

He emphasized building a prosperous, developed, and progressive nation, fulfilling the responsibility of being the first sub-Saharan colonial country to gain independence.

The event was attended by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief Justice Getrude Torkenoo, Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare (Chief of Staff, Office of the President), former first lady Nana Agyemang Rawlings, and Mr. Sam Okudzeto, a member of the Council of State.

  • NDC is criticizing the economy because it lacks solutions – Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lacks alternative strategies to counter the government’s economic revitalization policies.

He noted that NDC members have been disparaging the economy and negating its progress.

Ahiagbah added, “the NDC’s criticism of the economy arises from their inability to provide viable alternatives to challenge the government’s policy initiatives aimed at rejuvenating our economy. The economy has taken a positive turn, and it is imperative for Ghanaians to support the government in stabilizing it.”

It’s noteworthy that the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, challenged Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s claim that the economy had turned a corner.

Dr. Forson argued that the Finance Minister’s policies exacerbated Ghana’s economic difficulties.

Ofori-Atta, during the mid-year budget review presentation, shared that the government had successfully averted dire situations, such as shortages of essential items and fuel queues. He acknowledged the collective efforts and investments made since March 2020 to navigate challenges.

Responding to Dr. Forson’s statements, Ahiagbah criticized the NDC for intentionally deceiving the public and attempting to undermine the government’s popularity. He denounced their partisan approach and highlighted their lack of substantive ideas to address the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War.

Ahiagbah stated, “The NDC’s assertion that the mid-year fiscal revisions invalidate the notion of turning a corner is unfounded and should not be taken seriously. Their absence of constructive ideas is evident, and their strategy seems to be discrediting the government’s genuine efforts to mitigate pandemic and war-related economic impacts.”

He urged Ghanaians to recognize that if the NDC were in power, the country’s situation might have worsened due to their apparent dearth of innovative proposals.

He emphasized the need to assess the NDC’s contributions since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War, highlighting their lack of original ideas to support economic recovery.

  • ‘Party after debate’: Ato Forson, Afenyo-Markin smoke peace pipe over a meal after intense debate

‘Party after debate’: Ato Forson, Afenyo-Markin smoke peace pipe over a meal after intense debate

Deputy Member of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson found a common ground over a friendly meal following recent spirited parliamentary debates.

This memorable occasion was to mark the birthday of Dr Ato Forson

This instance of friendly interaction followed a vigorous exchange between Afenyo-Markin, the deputy majority leader, and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader, during the deliberations on the 2023 Mid-Year Budget Review. The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, had presented the review on July 31, 2023.

While participating in the parliamentary debate, the Deputy Majority leader revived the familiar chant ‘eeiii Ato’ as he presented his argument countering the assertions put forth by the minority leader.

However, rather than extending their disagreements outside the parliamentary chamber, the two politicians were observed seated at a table, enjoying a pleasant time together.

The deputy Majority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin teased that he had more physically appeal than his colleague, Ato Forson.

“I am saying to the birthday boy [reference to Ato Forson], I am more handsome than him. He should debate it,” he said to the amusement of everyone.

Dr Ato Forson on the other hand advised that, despite the political differences, they are one.

“We are brothers, regardless of the political differences.”

The deputy minority leader wished his colleague a happy birthday and they shared laugher together.

Eyewitnesses joined in to share the moment with both individuals putting their political differences aside and having a good time.

Member of Parliament for the Okere constituency and the current Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Daniel Botwe, has expressed his support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the optimal strategic choice for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming 2024 elections.

After thorough contemplation and careful analysis, Botwe confidently proclaimed, “Considering all factors, I believe that electing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as our flagbearer is the most strategic decision for the NPP.” His endorsement garnered applause from attendees. He further highlighted Bawumia’s impressive track record of competence and steadfast loyalty to the NPP as key reasons behind his endorsement.

NPP Primaries: Dan Botwe urges party faithful to rally behind Bawumia

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dan Botwe has urged the rank and file of the party to unite in support of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy, endorsing him to become the NPP’s next flagbearer.

The MP for the Okere Constituency made the appeal during the Vice President’s visit to the Okere Constituency last Sunday.

Drawing upon his extensive experience as a former General Secretary of the party and after thorough analysis of the various contenders and the current state of both the party and the nation, Dan Botwe asserted that the most fitting individual to steer the NPP forward is undeniably Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“Since we started this flagbearership campaign, I have not spoken. But today I will speak. I was elected General Secretary of the NPP 25 years ago. I have had experience working under several stalwarts of the Party. I know the NPP very well. I know very well all the 10 people contesting. But I am here at Okere saying this. That anyone who knows me knows that I speak the truth and you cannot influence me with anything,” Dan Botwe said.

“I love all the aspirants, but I love the NPP more. My friends in the NPP, if we look at what is happening in Ghana and NPP now, we are looking into the future. Based on my knowledge of the Party and judging from what is happening, I want to say and ask all of you to go and vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

In his remarks, Dan Botwe emphasized the necessity for the NPP to adopt a strategic approach as they approach the 2024 election. He underlined that the most prudent and effective strategic choice for the party to secure victory in the upcoming election is to designate Vice President Bawumia as their chosen flagbearer.

  • How Gabby attacked West Blue in 2015 but now fighting to secure GHC187m payment for it

How Gabby attacked West Blue in 2015 but now fighting to secure GHC187m payment for it

New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has shocked Ghanaians with his sudden transition from being a critic of West Blue Ghana Limited in 2015 to now advocating for the company’s claim to a GHC187 million payment.

Back in 2015, Mr Otchere-Darko made headlines for his vocal criticism of West Blue Limited. The staunch member of the NPP was imputing criminality in the contract awarded to West Blue Company by the presidency.

West Blue had been awarded a contract by the then Mahama administration to undertake services including software implementation and also support activities to GRA and related agencies for takeover of functions of DICs on 1 September, 2015.

The government in a leaked letter also directed the Chief of Staff to “take the necessary steps to secure the Public Procurement Approval in order to engage West Blue on Single Source basis.”

This development upset Mr Otchere-Darko who vehemently opposed the awarding of the contract to West Blue.

Fast forward to 2023, and the situation has taken an unexpected turn. Gabby is now at the forefront of advocating for the company’s pursuit of a GHC 187 million payment. This payment is said to be related to services rendered by West Blue in the trade facilitation sector.

This came to light when Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa released a mindblowing piece on Facebook dubbed “The Kitchen Scandal”

In the said post, Mr. Ablakwa expressed his astonishment at how Mr Otchere-Darko allegedly managed to persuade sections of the government, including the Attorney-General’s office and individuals within the Finance Ministry, to approve the massive payment to his new client, West Blue Company Limited.

The North Tongu MP expressed concerns about the colossal liability created for the Ghanaian taxpayer, particularly in the context of the country’s struggling economy and the recent IMF bailout.

He referred to the situation as “insane” and criticised President Akufo-Addo’s “Kitchen Cabinet” for their role in facilitating this enormous financial burden.

In a response to Mr Ablakwa’s claims, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko is a Senior Partner at Africa Legal Associates, on Friday, August 4, 2023, maintained that his firm was engaged in a rather legitimate duty on behalf of their client.

According to him, his firm has since April 2021 been engaged by West Blue Ghana Limited to assist the company recover an amount of GH¢187,356,969 being outstanding payments due it from the Government of the Republic of Ghana under a contract dated 04 August 2015, and executed between West Blue, on the one hand, and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Ministry of Finance (MoF), on the other hand.

“Our client’s claim is founded on clause 13.1 of the NSW Contract, which sets out without equivocation, the fees due to our client under the NSW Contract. It was a contract duly crafted and executed by the John Mahama administration, of which you were a key member.

“Clause 13.1 of the NSW Contract provides that in consideration of its services, our client shall be paid a fee equivalent to 0.35% of the final invoice CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) value of import consignments entering into Ghana through the seaports, airports and land borders from time to time. Going strictly by the express terms of the NSW Contract, our client calculates the arrears still left outstanding to be in the sum of GH¢187,356,969. Indeed, a demand letter providing details of the sum of GH¢187,356,969 owed, was submitted to the Ministry of Finance on 28 July 2020 by the previous lawyers of our client, Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah,” he wrote in his response.

  • My coming is a turning point for Ghana – Bawumia

My coming is a turning point for Ghana – Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has refuted allegations suggesting that he is not qualified to participate in the upcoming presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in his pursuit to lead the party in the 2024 general elections.

Countering the ‘aduru meso’ narrative, Dr Bawumia drew a comparison between his political trajectory and influence within the NPP to the experiences of the biblical figure Paul. He expressed a strong determination to disrupt the established pattern of eight years of governance under the Fourth Republic.

He told delegates on his campaign tour: “sometimes great individuals emerge at pivotal moments in history, just like the Apostle Paul emerged to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ,” proclaiming that “in the same way, my coming could be seen as a turning point for our nation”.

During his campaign tour in the Eastern Region, specifically in Aburi, Dr Bawumia made these remarks while engaging with party delegates. He encouraged them to support his candidacy for the party’s flagbearer position, emphasizing his intention to guide the party to victory in the 2024 general elections.

Addressing a gathering at the Aburi Presbyterian Women’s Training College, Dr Bawumia explained that “I stand before you today as a testament to the transformative power of politics. My journey has been like that of Paul, who went from being a persecutor to an apostle. Similarly, I have grown and evolved within the NPP, and I believe I am the ideal and surest candidate to ‘break the eight-year cycle’’.

Dr Bawumia stressed that he had succeeded in transforming the Vice Presidency from one of docility to activism, symbolic representation to policy implementation, and from mysticism to realism.

He said he believes he can effectively lead the NPP and bring about positive change for the nation, adding that “I have dedicated my life to public service, and I am determined to bring progress and prosperity to the people of Ghana. Together, we can build a nation that thrives on innovation, inclusivity, and sustainable development’’.

Outlining some of his achievements, he noted that he had played a pivotal role in formulating and implementing programmes such as Zongo Development Fund, One District One Factory, Planting for Food and Jobs, Free Senior High School, Gold for Oil programme, among others.

He also accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in religious and tribal politics.

Dr. Bawumia asserted that the NDC is only resorting to divisive tactics by exploiting religious and tribal sentiments for political gain.

However, he urged the delegates to be mindful of such tendencies since the NDC has no message of hope for them, adding that the party was using these strategies to appeal to specific voter base and consolidate power, rather than focusing on the needs and aspirations of the Ghanaian people.

Dr Bawumia further argued that the NDC’s approach is detrimental to the unity and progress of Ghana as a nation, and stressed the importance of politics based on issues, policies, and the overall welfare of the population, rather than identity-based divisions.

Once completed, this state-of-the-art factory will create direct employment opportunities for over 300 young individuals within the constituency and the wider Eastern Region. Furthermore, it is expected to generate thousands of additional indirect jobs for the youth.

Progress on the factory is currently at 70%, located in Asuboi along the main Accra-Kumasi highway.

The facility is set to manufacture a range of tissue products including toilet paper, face towels, and A-4 sheets.

In an interview, Ida Asiedu emphasized that addressing the challenge of unemployment in the constituency and the region at large has been a central concern.

She expressed her determination to contribute significantly towards reducing the prevailing high unemployment rates.

Ida Asiedu stated, “With just 30% left to complete, the tissue factory will substantially alleviate unemployment in our constituency. The factory’s establishment aims to directly employ more than 300 young people and indirectly benefit thousands, thereby tackling the unemployment crisis head-on.”

When questioned about her motivation for seeking the parliamentary seat, Madam Asiedu underscored her commitment to creating positive change and empowerment within the constituency.

She believes that political influence will allow her to make more substantial contributions to the region’s development.

Beyond her involvement in the tissue factory project, Ida Asiedu also disclosed her engagement in farming initiatives aimed at generating employment opportunities within the constituency. She shared, “I am involved in fish farming as well as poultry farming, both of which will provide employment opportunities for interested constituents.”

Discussing her contributions to infrastructure, Ida Adwoa Asiedu highlighted the lack of proper road infrastructure in the constituency, particularly in Coaltar, its capital.

  • Akufo-Addo vows to reshape Ghana’s economy

Akufo-Addo vows to reshape Ghana’s economy

President Akufo-Addo has raised concerns about Ghana’s lingering colonial economic structures, which he believes continue to adversely impact the nation.

Despite this, he assured the public of resolute actions aimed at dismantling the current reliance on raw material production and exports.

Instead, he envisions a transition toward a contemporary, value-added, and industrialized economy.

Highlighting pre-pandemic and pre-conflict economic indicators that aligned with this vision, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the challenges faced by the nation.

Nonetheless, he underlined substantial advancements across various sectors.

“As the leader of Ghana, my focus has been on steering our nation’s course from raw material exports and imported goods retail to a modern, value-adding industrialized entity,” President Akufo-Addo affirmed.

These statements were made at a banquet honoring senior citizens in observance of Founders’ Day, a significant date in Ghana that commemorates the nation’s liberation from colonial rule and its foundation.

The event, held at the Jubilee House’s Banquet Hall, was attended by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

  • NPP is the best choice for 2024, not NDC – Akufo-Addo

NPP is the best choice for 2024, not NDC – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to exert their utmost efforts in securing victory for the party in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The foremost statesman emphasized that the party must not allow a recurrence of the setbacks suffered in 2008 to mar their prospects in 2024.

He stressed the importance of preventing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from assuming power in Ghana in the foreseeable future.

President Akufo-Addo underscored the need to learn from the past, particularly the period from 2009 to 2017 when the NDC, under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, undermined the significant progress achieved during President John Agyekum Kufuor’s tenure.

“We are all witnesses to the derailing of the achievements chalked by President John Agyekum Kufuor by the successor NDC government, from 2009 to 2017, in which John Dramani Mahama featured so prominently,” the President noted.

“Under 8 years of the successor NDC government, we became famous for all the wrong reasons. Four successive years of dumsor, the mismanagement of the economy, wrong and dangerous energy contracts, and wanton corruption dissipated any hope the Ghanaian had for sustained economic development. Never again should we allow this to happen.”

“We are expending some of our energies hurling invectives at each other, instead of at our opponents, and, in the process, taking digs at our own Government. It has been an anxious time for all who love our party, and who see us as the party that can bring progress and prosperity to our nation,” he said.

He lamented, “During the successive eight years of the NDC administration, our reputation suffered due to consistent power outages, economic mismanagement, questionable energy agreements, and rampant corruption.

This eroded the optimism that Ghanaians held for sustainable economic advancement. We must never permit a repetition of such circumstances.”

The President acknowledged that internal conflicts had diverted energies towards internal disputes instead of uniting against external opponents, thereby inadvertently criticizing their own governance.

He expressed concern over the challenges that had surfaced within the party, noting the pivotal role of the NPP in driving the nation’s progress and prosperity.

President Akufo-Addo, in his capacity as both the head of state and de facto party leader, pledged to prevent the recurrence of past mistakes that contributed to the party’s loss in 2008.

He called for an internal campaign that transcends ethnic or religious considerations, highlighting the necessity of a united front in pursuing their political goals.

  • NPP School nearing completion

    NPP School nearing completion

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is nearing completion of the establishment of an institute that would serve as a breeding ground for its leaders by instilling the party’s traditions, philosophies, and ideals.

National Chairman Stephen Ayensu Ntim unveiled the plans at the inaugural Mentorship Forum by the Youth Wing, held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra on August 3, 2023.

The school’s mission is to mentor and train aspiring party and national leaders, providing leadership training, center-right values, and research aligned with the NPP’s vision.

Professor Mike Oquaye, former Speaker of Parliament, will chair the Governing Council, and Professor Bondzie Simpson, former Rector of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), will serve as rector.

“The party school will primarily offer leadership training to members of the party who aspire to take up leadership positions in the party and in government. The school is also expected to produce credible and cutting-edge research intended to promote the party’s vision of building a free and prosperous society,” he stressed.

“Further, the school as part of its outstanding objectives will be committed to identifying and grooming students from our educational institutions like TESCON and imbibe in them the kind of leadership that resonates with the 21st century and also inculcate in them the core values of center-right orientation that underpins the NPP political establishment.”

“In effect, the party school shall to a large extent concern itself with teaching it’s members the party ideology, political and communication strategy, principles as well as the core values as well as principles of JB Danquah, Simeon Dombo and Kofi Abrefa Busia among others.

“It is envisaged that in the medium to long term, appointees and potential appointees in an NPP government as well as elected officers and appointees of the party at the national, regional, and constituency electoral areas and polling station levels would have received training at the party school”.

NPP aims to ensure that future government appointees, party officials, and leaders at all levels receive training at the NPP School, fostering a deep understanding of the party’s ideology and principles.

The Mentorship Forum, organized by the NPP National Youth Organizer’s office, creates a platform for NPP leaders to share expertise with TESCON and youth groups.

  • Alan’s campaign team detect anomalies in NPP register

Alan’s campaign team detect anomalies in NPP register

The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Alan Kyerematen has expressed hope that the party’s Presidential Elections Committee and National Executive Council (NEC) will promptly address discrepancies in the special delegates conference register.

In an August 2 letter, the team identified five anomalies, including the eligibility of the Chief of Staff to vote in the super delegates’ conference on August 26.

Sylvester Tetteh, a member of Alan’s campaign team and MP for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, highlighted some of the obvious discrepancies.

He pointed out that the Chief of Staff, who is not an NEC member, was erroneously included. Tetteh also noted a duplication of the Ashanti Regional Second Vice Chairperson in the register.

Tetteh emphasized that former MPs are ineligible, only current members qualify. He further clarified that attending NEC meetings doesn’t confer eligibility, contrary to the party’s election regulations.

While awaiting NEC’s response, Tetteh expressed optimism that corrective measures will be taken.

“The Chief of Staff is not a member of the National Executive Committee, but she has been captured as a member, and we have drawn the attention of the elections committee to that correction. Additionally, the Ashanti Regional Second Vice Chairperson has been duplicated in the same album, and these are some of the things we are bringing to their attention.”

“Former members of parliament are not eligible, only sitting members are eligible, and also, the Chief of Staff may be invited to NEC meetings, but that does not make one eligible, and that is not correct in the regulation of elections of our party.”

“We are yet to get a response from NEC, but we are hopeful that they will do the right thing,” Mr. Tetteh added.

  • Not everyone is in politics for personal benefits – Agyepong

Not everyone is in politics for personal benefits – Agyepong

A flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has expressed concern over the perception among some young Ghanaians that politics is a path to wealth.

He emphasized the need to instill hope, values, and virtues in the younger generation to counter the prevailing sense of despondency and desperation.

“We need to bequeath to the younger generation some level of hope and the virtues and the values that anchored this country,” he said.

“That’s why I said my political doctrine has been anchored on what I call SSS – service, sacrifice and selflessness – and I do believe that all politicians [and] leaders should have these character traits and virtues.”

In an exclusive interview, Agyepong highlighted his political doctrine based on service, sacrifice, and selflessness, which he believes all politicians and leaders should uphold.

“What is happening now, if we are not careful, the space will be populated by misfits, those who shout loudest and those who insult most, who have most venom in their voices.

“That’s not what we need in our politics. We need to inspire the younger generation to aspire to be politicians by the way we discourse, by the way we respect ourselves, by the temperate language that we should use.”

He warned against the rise of “misfits” in politics due to the misconception, urging for a change in discourse and respectful language to inspire the younger generation to become politicians for the right reasons.

Agyepong called upon the political elite to take responsibility for changing the narrative that politics is primarily a means to make money.

“When I talk about the new dawn, new direction and a new dimension what I mean is a reorientation of our values as a country.

“The narrative that has gained currency which is that you go into politics to make money, that narrative should disappear and the only people who can make it disappear is we the politicians.”

He emphasized the importance of reorienting the values of the country and promoting a new dawn and direction for politics.

As one of the ten flagbearer aspirants for the NPP, Agyepong is set to embark on a second-round nationwide campaign ahead of the special congress on August 26, 2023.

  • 130 women farmers are given fertiliser by the Navrongo Central NPP women’s organizer

130 women farmers are given fertiliser by the Navrongo Central NPP women’s organizer

Ophelia Philomena Aovare, the Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Navrongo Central, has extended support to 130 women farmers in the area by providing them with bags of organic fertilizers to enhance their farming endeavors.

On Tuesday, August 1, Aovare distributed the fertilizers to the women, emphasizing the significance of empowering women in agriculture and providing them with the necessary resources to enhance their livelihoods and independence.

The total cost of the 130 bags of organic fertilizers amounted to GHC 14,300.

Addressing the media during the presentation, Aovare highlighted that supporting women in agriculture plays a pivotal role in enabling them to actively contribute to nation-building.

Driven by her commitment to empowering women and acknowledging the substantial efforts made by women in the area towards its development, Aovare took the initiative to provide them with the necessary assistance.

She expressed her hope that the provision of fertilizers would alleviate the challenges faced by women who lack access to farming inputs, particularly fertilizers, thereby enhancing their farming activities and leading to increased yields. Aovare believed that improved yields would directly translate into better living conditions for the farmers and their families.

    families.

“The women here, most of them are not office workers. They do farm and so in this era and season, there was the need to do something to support them. So, I took it upon myself to mobilize support from our financiers to support them. They rely on that to feed themselves and their families. So, if you can help them with farm inputs during this season, you have done it all for them.”

“This is not about money; it is about what they need. Identifying the needs of the people at a particular period and supporting them. So, with this the women can improve their farm yields and be able to take care of their families,” Aovare said.

Aovare revealed that she was able to pull off the donation successfully with the kind support of Michael Luguje, the director-general of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and some of her friends.

“The main supporter who has made this a reality is Michael Luguje who has been of support to us in the constituency and the region as a whole. I went to him and he gave me more than half of the support. I’m very grateful to him. The others were personal friends who came in to support me.”

Ophelia Philomena Aovare, the Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Navrongo Central, reiterated her commitment to supporting the empowerment of women and girls both during and after her tenure in office. She encouraged the women to remain dedicated to their work and not let the lack of support hinder their progress.

Aovare also disclosed that she is actively arranging resources to conduct skills training workshops for women and girls in the area, aiming to equip them with valuable expertise to enhance their prospects.

Moreover, she highlighted the efforts of the Akufo-Addo government in improving the support system for farmers nationwide. Aovare expressed hope that the coming year would be favorable for farmers as various policies and initiatives are set to be implemented in the agriculture sector to bolster their endeavors.

“Whatever I can do, I have and will continue to do to support women empowerment in our constituency. Also, with the current policies the government is rolling out, I know that next year things will be better for us [farmers and the citizenry]. Our [NPP] aim is to break the eight, so that the people will see the reason to support us [NPP] to break the eight,”

Some of the farmers, who received the fertilisers, expressed gratitude for the donation describing it as a timely intervention. Naaseh Wemeye, a beneficiary, said the fertiliser will be used on her maize and rice farm which seriously needed application. She was thankful to the Women’s Organizer for her thoughtful initiative.

She said, “In fact, the fertilisers that our women organizer gave to us is good. She has done very well. For now, the economy is very hard and we too don’t have work. We don’t also know how to struggle for fertilizer. So, I was very happy when they told us she is going to distribute fertilizers to us. I have maize and rice and I don’t have fertilizer. I pray for her to get more strength so that next time she will give us more. We are all happy and grateful.”

  • You never did anything for Asanteman – Tweep tells Alan

You never did anything for Asanteman – Tweep tells Alan

It appears flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kyerematen may not be welcomed by all during his constituency delegates durbar in the Ashanti Region.

On Tuesday, July 28, 2023, the former Trade Minister announced his decision to return “home” to engage the over 35,000 cherished kingmakers of the NPP from July 28 to August 2, 2023.

The week-long campaign has however been pushed forward to start on August 7 and end on August 12.

Alan Kyerematen is expecting a rousing welcome but that may not the case.

On July 30, a Tweep criticised the aspirant for failing to remember the Ashanti Region during his time as a government official.

According to the user, @ourafricanst, Alan Kyerematen “never did anything for Asanteman” as he was “always thinking of Accra.”

It is unknown if more others hold the same assertion.

But is the concern raised substantive? In October 2022, when Alan Kyerematen held the position of Trade Minister, the Ashanti Region was a beneficiary of 21 out of the 125 factories under the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, noted that about 30 more factories were at various stages of completion.

    Alan confident about Ashanti Region

During an interview on Angel FM on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, Mr. Kyerematen expressed the viewpoint that the party necessitates a candidate capable of securing no less than 80 percent of the votes in the Ashanti Region.

The ex-Trade Minister further stated that he possesses the capability not only to secure the party’s support by over 80 percent of votes in the Ashanti Region but also to amass a substantial number of votes from the strongholds of the major opposition party, the NDC.

“We are not just looking for a flagbearer, we are looking for someone who can help the NPP retain power… Everybody knows that the Ashanti Region is the backbone of the NPP… And so for a difficult election, which I perceive is going to happen in 2024, you need a candidate that is going to win at least 80 percent of the votes in the Ashanti Region to guarantee us victory.

“You need a candidate who can do two things, consolidate your base and reduce the strength of your opponent. We all know that the base of the NDC is the Volta Region but many people have been asking why Voltarians like me so much.

“Everybody in Ghana knows that the people of the Volta Region have taken me to be one of them. I believe that I am the candidate who can win 80 percent of the votes in the Ashanti Region and also compete with the NDC in the Volta Region for their votes to be reduced,” he said in Twi.

Alan can fix Ghana’s problems – Buaben Asamoa

A member of the Alan Kyerematen campaign team, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has declared Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen as the most suitable candidate to tackle the pressing issues facing Ghana.

In an interview with the media, he expressed confidence that if elected as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate and eventually becomes Ghana’s president in the 2024 polls, Mr. Kyerematen will effectively address the country’s challenges, particularly the issue of unemployment.

Asamoa acknowledged that the former Trade and Industry Minister cannot be absolved of responsibility concerning the current economic crisis.

However, he emphasized that Kyerematen is fully prepared to provide solutions to the country’s problems.

He asserted that what Ghanaians seek is leadership that offers practical solutions, and Alan Kyerematen’s track record with GTP (Ghana Textile Printing) demonstrates his ability to provide such solutions.

As the party markets him to the nation, they are confident that Kyerematen’s leadership will resonate with the people.

Acknowledging the difficulties faced in governance and the economy, Asamoa highlighted past leaders’ achievements in addressing specific issues.

He then pointed out that Ghana now needs a leader who can focus on job creation, a domain where Alan Kyerematen has proven expertise.

Asamoa extolled Kyerematen’s accomplishments over the years and called on delegates to vote for him, stressing the importance of entrusting leadership to an experienced problem-solving leader. According to Asamoa, Kyerematen has demonstrated his capacity to establish frameworks for job opportunities, making him the right person for the job.

This endorsement reflects the belief within the Alan Kyerematen campaign team that he possesses the necessary attributes and solutions to address Ghana’s challenges and lead the country forward.

  • ‘You never loved Ghana for even a second’ – Netizens take on Akufo-Addo

‘You never loved Ghana for even a second’ – Netizens take on Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has upset some Ghanaians with a recent statement he made during a meeting held with NPP communicators who recently called on him at the Jubilee House.

The President remarked that he had only one vote and will cast it for the candidate who will be able to win the election.

Tweeting some photos from the meeting on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, he noted that: “I have just one vote, the same as any polling station executive anywhere in the country, and I will cast that vote for an aspirant who, I believe, can best unite the Party, and, above all, who can win the presidential election of 7th December 2024, and inflict a third successive defeat on the perennial NDC Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama.”

His statement has sparked discontent among some Ghanaians who perceive the remarks as unpatriotic.

One tweep identified as Kelvin Ashong accused the president of putting his party first before Ghana, following the remarks.

“And above all, who can win the Presidential election of 7th December 2024”?…..this means you’re not thinking about Ghana. All you’re concerned about is your npp party. You just exposed yourself that you never loved this country for even one second. You’re not a patriotic citizen ngl. Just deceiving Ghanaians a doing everything with self interest. Sad for mother Ghana. Your forefathers are not happy atm. Bad bad,” he said.

“You’re also telling Ghanaians that because you want npp party to win power at all costs, you’re ready to support the candidate who’ll help with that even if he’s incompetent or incapable, and even if there’s a candidate within the party who’s miles better than your candidate, you’ll still pick your ‘friend’. Sad thing is you ruled Ghanaians for almost 8 years with this mentality. Pathetic,” he added.

“That is why he has broken grounds for a new housing project while there is an uncompleted project of the same kind,” another tweep said.

  • Bawumia is the ideal candidate for NPP – Nana Akomea

Bawumia is the ideal candidate for NPP – Nana Akomea

A prominent spokesperson of the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia campaign team, Nana Akomea, has voiced his strong support for the Vice President as the ideal candidate to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 general elections.

He believes that Dr Bawumia is the most suitable person to break the eight-year cycle of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) winning the presidency and also possesses the ability to gain support from both parties’ traditional strongholds.

During an interview with the media, Nana Akomea asserted that Dr Bawumia’s leadership could pose a threat to the NDC in their strongholds, such as the Volta Region, the Northern Region, and the Zongo settlements.

He emphasized that Dr Bawumia’s appeal lies in his capacity to bridge the gap between NPP and NDC strongholds, making him the most suitable candidate among all aspirants.

Furthermore, Nana Akomea expressed astonishment at the remarkable responses from party delegates to Dr Bawumia’s message of being the best candidate to break the eight-year cycle. He cited the extraordinary reactions, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where seven of the contesting aspirants hail from. Despite this, Dr Bawumia’s reception among delegates in Ashanti has been surprising and promising.

Nana Akomea’s statements reflect the growing support and belief within the NPP that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the right leader to steer the party to victory in the 2024 elections and bring an end to the NDC’s presidential reign.

“The NDC has their traditional strongholds in the Volta Region, the Northern Region, and the Zongo settlements. With Dr Bawumia, we believe that the NDC in the Northern Region and the Zongos will be threatened.

“He is the best person to reach across the NPP strongholds and the NDC strongholds. He is the best person among all the aspirants.

“Delegates’ responses everywhere have been extraordinary, particularly in Ashanti. I was particularly shocked by the reaction of the delegates because seven of the gentlemen in the contest are from Ashanti, so I wasn’t expecting that kind of reaction Dr Bawumia got in the Ashanti region,” he added.

  • NPP must be ‘New Patapaa Party’ – Governs Agbodza mocks

NPP must be ‘New Patapaa Party’ – Governs Agbodza mocks

Minority Chief Whip, Governs Agbodza, during the debate on the mid-year budget review in Parliament, made a sarcastic recommendation to the adherents of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.

He suggested that they rename the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the “New Patapaa Party.”

Agbodza’s remark came in response to the Akufo-Addo government’s plan to fund the Accra-Tema Motorway project for a private entity to execute the work.

He heavily criticized NPP members for what he perceived as a lack of patriotism in their handling of the country’s affairs.

The Adaklu MP argued that the government’s conduct does not align with the party’s name.

He further chastised the government for borrowing heavily to contract a foreign company when local contractors are fully capable of handling the project.

Agbodza expressed strong disapproval of the government’s decision to borrow money that Ghanaians will have to repay and then use it to pay a foreign contractor.

He insisted that if the project is to be funded with Ghanaian money, it should be awarded to Ghanaian contractors, especially considering the outstanding debt owed to local contractors.

In conclusion, Agbodza used the humorously suggested name change to express his discontent with the government’s approach to the Accra-Tema Motorway project and its use of borrowed funds.

“They are telling us in this document that Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIFF) is going to fund Accra-Tema Motorway. So we will go and borrow money, put it in GIFF and let a foreign company come and do this job. We can guarantee you, we will never support you. What is the name of your party? New Patriotic Party, where is your patriotism? You better change that middle name to ‘patapaa’ because it has nothing to do with patriotism, when we advise you, you don’t listen.”

“How can you go and borrow money which Ghanaians will pay, and then you want to give that money to a foreigner? As for the Accra-Tema Motorway, if we are going to use our money, it must be done by Ghanaian contractors who you already owe GH¢15 billion. If they [private contractors] bring their money, they can do the job, but my taxes will not be used to pay them”.

  • Aggrieved NPP members vandalise Sagnarigu office

Aggrieved NPP members vandalise Sagnarigu office

The Sagnarigu branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has experienced an episode of vandalism at the hands of young party members.

This occurrence marks the second attack within a few months.

Reportedly, the aggrieved members who perpetrated the attack expressed their dissatisfaction with the local leadership of the party.

Insights from the Sagnarigu constituency suggest that this act of vandalism is a result of allegations concerning the diversion of fertilizers by the constituency executives.

These fertilizers, initially intended for distribution among the party’s supporters, are believed to have been misused, fueling internal tensions.

Furthermore, the report discloses that on Friday, July 21, the NPP’s local office in the area also fell victim to vandalism by irate party supporters.

The underlying unrest stems from an alleged denial of access to nomination forms for Dr. Wahab Alhassan.

The youth reportedly accused the constituency executives of favoring the 2020 candidate, Felicia Tettey, by seemingly allowing her to run uncontested in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.

  • I don’t support any aspirant — Akufo-Addo

    I don’t support any aspirant — Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has emphatically declared that he and his government will not endorse or impose any candidate during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate selection process.

He dismissed claims suggesting that his government is intimidating or coercing party members to support a particular aspirant, specifically the Vice-President. He labeled such allegations as false and malicious.

The President made these remarks during a meeting with NPP communicators at the Jubilee House in Accra yesterday.

    Appeal
He was responding to an appeal by the NPP Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, in relation to the party’s election of a flag bearer for the 2024 polls, and added that the party could not afford to allow what happened to it in 2008 to recur in 2024.

“The history of the NPP tells us that no President can foist a candidate on the party against its wishes.

The NPP is not that kind of party.

“We have never subscribed to a cult personality.

Indeed, our highly-respected former President, the first NPP President, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, in the aftermath of my election as NPP presidential candidate, by the 2007 National Congress, told the Congress that ‘the party has its spirit’, a spirit that cannot be ignored.”

    Derailment
He indicated that the derailing of the achievements chalked up by President Kufuor by the successor NDC government, from 2009 to 2017, in which John Dramani Mahama featured so prominently was obvious for all.

President Akufo-Addo noted that the eight-years of the successor NDC government was marked with dumsor, mismanagement of the economy, wrong and dangerous energy contracts and wanton corruption that dissipated any hope the Ghanaian had for sustained economic development, adding that “ Never again should we allow this to happen.”

    Actions
He noted that with the start of the final leg of internal contest of the NPP, some actions by a few members of the party were making the front pages for the wrong reasons.

“We are expending some of our energies hurling invectives at each other, instead of at our opponents, and, in the process, taking digs at our own Government.

It has been an anxious time for all who love our party, and who see us as the party that can bring progress and prosperity to our nation,” he said.

    De facto
He said it was for this reason that as President and de-facto leader of the NPP, he wanted to ensure that certain actions of yesteryear, which contributed to the party’s loss in 2008, were not repeated because “We cannot afford an internal campaign based on ethnic or religious considerations.”

President Akufo-Addo told the communicators of the party that he could beat his chest and say, without any fear of contradiction, that there was no one in the party who could say that he, President Akufo-Addo, had asked him or her to support this or that aspirant.

    Sacked
“I have not set out to dismiss any MMDCE or political appointee from office for supporting any particular aspirant; no Minister or Deputy Minister has lost their job or been threatened for openly campaigning for their preferred presidential aspirant.

“Neither has any caveat emanated from Jubilee House to the party across the length and breadth of the country demanding that candidate A should be supported over candidate B.

I know that this is not the way to go,” the president stated.

He gave the assurance that whoever was elected would be chosen freely and transparently by an Electoral College of some 250,000 people, “and not by President Akufo-Addo.

I have just one vote, the same as any polling station executive anywhere in the country.”

    Vote
He indicated, however, that he would “cast that vote for an aspirant who, I believe, can best unite the party, and above all, who can win the presidential election of 7th December 2024, and inflict a third successive defeat on the perennial NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.”

President Akufo-Addo reassured the party communicators of victory for the NPP in election 2024, and handing over to an NPP presidential candidate to be elected as President by the Ghanaian people, were what he was working for, and he expected all members of the NPP to share the same goals.

“I assume that we all want our party to win the 2024 elections decisively, our parliamentary candidates to win, again, the majority of seats in Parliament, and our flag bearer to become the president of the republic.

I expect and accept arguments on how we prosecute this agenda.

But I do not expect and do not accept that party members would do anything to jeopardise the goal we have set ourselves of winning the 2024 elections, and I will work with all who seek this objective,” he added.

The previous deadline was initially scheduled for August 2nd at 5pm. The decision to extend the deadline was taken in response to concerns raised by potential applicants.

“It is hoped that the extension will provide prospective applicants ample time to be able to comply with the requirements,” the statement added.

The committee’s secretary, William Yamoah, has specified that all applicants must provide evidence of their inability to vote in person, such as proof of travel outside the country or a medical report. Each application should also be accompanied by an affidavit.

  • Weak cedi reason Pokuase Housing project is priced in dollars – George Ayesi

Weak cedi reason Pokuase Housing project is priced in dollars – George Ayesi

The communications director of the National Disaster Management and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Ayesi, has justified why government has priced the Pokuase housing project in dollars.

According to him, the prices instills confidence in investors due to the stability of the currency, which contrasts with the uncertainties surrounding the local cedi.

President Akufo-Addo has launched a visionary project aimed at addressing the country’s significant housing deficit of approximately 2 million units.

The project entails the construction of 8,000 housing units to meet this pressing need.

To ensure transparency and attract investment, the government has disclosed the pricing of the houses in US dollars.

    The pricing is as follows:

    Studio apartment: $13,800
    One bedroom: $20,700
    Two bedroom: $34,500
    Three bedroom: $42,550

The government believes that pricing the houses in dollars will attract more investors, fostering collaboration and financial support for this ambitious project, as the dollar is a globally accepted and stable currency.

Despite the government’s enthusiasm for the Pokuase housing project, criticism has arisen from the public regarding its decision not to prioritize the completion of the Saglemi Housing project, which was initiated during the previous John Mahama administration.

The Pokuase project will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will see the construction of 4,000 housing units, with completion expected within 18 months. The second phase, consisting of the remaining 4,000 units, is also projected to be completed within the same timeframe.

For the successful execution of the project, the government has partnered with five reputable Real Estate developers, namely Rehoboth Properties, State Housing Company Limited, Devtraco Group Limited, FrankPauls Ventures Company Limited, and Douja Promotion Addoha Groupe Limited.

These collaborative efforts will contribute to the realization of the 8,000 housing units and provide much-needed shelter for the people of Ghana.

  • NPP introduces new dues system for members

NPP introduces new dues system for members

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has introduced a new dues payment system for its members, which has been approved by the National Council.

Party Chairman, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, made the announcement during a press conference on Tuesday, revealing that the decision was reached at a meeting held on July 20, 2023.

The primary aim of this decision is to restructure the membership dues to strengthen the party’s financial position, enhance the membership drive, and improve the welfare of its members.

According to Chairman Ntim, the party’s constitution emphasizes the importance of paying dues and making donations to sustain and foster the party’s growth.

To be considered a member in good standing, it is required for party members to consistently fulfill their dues obligations.

The new membership dues structure has been designed to be more convenient, transparent, and efficient in terms of payment and accountability.

It incorporates an innovative technology that allows every member to easily and conveniently pay their dues by dialing 920270# and following the provided prompts.

The membership dues are now categorized as follows:

    Bronze category – ₵ 2.00 per month
    Silver Category – ₵ 5.00 per month
    Gold Category – ₵ 8.00 per month
    Platinum Category – ₵ 10.00 per month.

Apart from the membership dues, the party’s constitution also recognizes Patrons, who are individual party members that may choose to contribute significantly towards the party’s progress at various levels, including constituency, regional, and national.

The platform also enables the collection of contributions from all patrons at each level.

Chairman Ntim mentioned that further details about the new payment system will be communicated soon.

The party has also outlined several activities to raise awareness and sensitize party members regarding this new dues payment system.

In this regard, they call on the media to offer massive support to the party’s initiatives.

NPA closes Samba’s unauthorized gasoline stations of the NPP

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has taken action against Mr. Mohammed Bantima Samba, the Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), by closing down two fuel stations that he owns.

These fuel stations were allegedly being operated without proper licenses and were registered under the name Lilygold Energy Resources Limited.

According to the NPA, the NPP Northern Regional Chairman was illegally selling petroleum products to the public, posing as Lilygold.

Mr. Rashid Dawuda, the Northern Regional Manager of the NPA, addressed the media in Tamale and confirmed that his team had shut down the two fuel stations. The company’s license had been revoked as of October 2022.

He cautioned the general public against conducting any further business with Lilygold Energy Resources Limited.

“We are not shutting down the station because it belongs to the NPP chairman, the law is the law and no matter who you are if you are found operating any illegal station the necessary actions will be taken to stop the business.”

The two fuel stations, according to Mr. Dawuda, will be flagged in their systems, and once that is done, the station won’t be able to accept any petroleum products from any depot across the nation.

The First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South constituency of the Ashanti Region, John Kwame Duodu has donated 4,200 sets of mathematical instruments to the education authorities in the area.

This donation was made with the purpose of ensuring that all candidates taking the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have access to the essential learning tools they need.

The presentation of the mathematical sets was carried out free of charge and was part of an initiative to support the preparedness of the candidates.

Mr. Duodu, also known as Sir John, emphasized that these are challenging times, and not all parents can afford such materials for their children, particularly when preparing for an external exam like the BECE.

Therefore, in consultation with the party leadership, including the Member of Parliament, he decided to make this donation to boost the confidence of the students.

During a brief ceremony at the Municipal Education Directorate in Nkawie on Monday, July 31, Sir John highlighted the achievements of the Akufo-Addo administration in the education sector.

He also reminded the candidates that they would benefit from the Free Senior High School policy if they perform well in the exams.

The Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service, Juliana Essel Cudjoe, gratefully received the donated items. She praised Mr. Duodu’s kindness and described the gesture as timely.

She also mentioned some of the interventions implemented by her office to support the students before, during, and after the elections. With the upcoming BECE scheduled to take place from Monday, August 7 to Friday, August 11, 2023, she expressed hope that these learning materials would greatly aid the candidates in the municipality to perform excellently.

For 14-year-old Ursula Amoh Mensah, one of the JHS final-year students in the country, the timely arrival of the mathematical instruments will undoubtedly be of immense help.

NPP Northern Regional Chairman’s fuel station shut down by NPA

LillyGold Energy Resources Limited, an Oil Marketing Company (OMC) owned by the Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Mohammed Adam Baantima Samba, has been closed down by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

The NPA took this action due to the company’s illegal operations, even after their license was revoked in October 2022.

Earlier this year, the NPA issued a statement announcing the revocation of licenses for around 30 OMCs nationwide, including LillyGold Energy Resources Limited.

According to Mr. Rasheed Dauda, the NPA’s Northern Regional Manager, the company was legally required to cease its operations, and both its branding and logo were not supposed to be in use anymore.

“For some time now, this retail outlet in Kanvili and another one around the industrial area at Lamashegu have been operating under the name LillyGold. We’re here to come and shutdown the station and caution the public not to do business with LillyGold,” he noted.

“If you’re operating something that is illegal, it is illegal and so action should be brought to make sure that this illegality is remedy,” he added.

The Manager emphasized that this action is not influenced by the identity of the NPP Chairman; anyone discovered to be operating an unlawful site will face similar consequences.

In the meantime, the Manager of the Lamashegu branch stated during an interaction with the taskforce that their facility was operating under the license of an OMC named Famous.

However, the Northern Regional Manager responded, labeling this claim as illegal and challenging them to present supporting documentation, which they were unable to provide.

The Regional Manager advised the public to refrain from purchasing petroleum products from such Oil Marketing Companies, highlighting that no corrective measures are in place.

Furthermore, he noted that the authority would be unable to intervene in case of any issues arising from such transactions.

“By law since the National Petroleum Authority is in charge of the downstream industry, we’re to ensure that such illegal outlets do not operate,” he stressed.

POSSIBLE ROBBERY ATTACKS: Fear grips Akufo-Addo appointees – John Kumah

Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, has characterized the recent times as challenging for every politician in Ghana.

He made these remarks in response to reports of stolen funds found in the home of former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah.

According to Kumah, fear has become a prevailing sentiment among all appointees in President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government.

“Our lives are in danger but the good thing is that we are given police protection. The idea and perception people have about us is now scary and it will be difficult for people to accept public offices in years to come,” he said.

He mentioned that while they are provided with police protection, the perception people hold about politicians has become frightening, making it increasingly difficult for individuals to accept public office in the future.

During an interview with the media, Kumah expressed concern about the negative image politicians are facing, leading to growing apathy within the system.

He emphasized that not all politicians keep large sums of money in their homes, and the current situation poses dangers for them collectively.

Kumah urged caution and called on the media to reshape discussions on the matter, highlighting the potential problems that could arise from exaggerations.

The case originated from a report of theft filed by the former Minister and her husband, Daniel Osei-Kuffour, which prompted police investigations and subsequent arrests.

Stolen items were recovered, and the investigation docket was submitted to the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice for review and guidance.

On July 24, 2023, the OSP (Office of the Special Prosecutor) took action by arresting Madam Dapaah for questioning following over 200 petitions received, urging an investigation into her.

Searches at her residences in Ablemkpe and Cantonments revealed allegedly stolen amounts totaling US$1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana cedis, which were reported to have been taken by her housekeepers between July and October 2022.
