  • Bawumia will win NPP flagbearer race hands down – Farouk Aliu Mahama

Bawumia will win NPP flagbearer race hands down – Farouk Aliu Mahama

Member of Parliament for Yendi, Farouk Aliu Mahama, predicts victory for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary.

The Vice President faces stiff opposition from nine other aspirants, five of whom will be dropped to pave the way for a special delegates conference that will elect the presidential candidate for the 2024 election.

Dr Bawumia’s contenders include former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen and Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyepong among others. The party has scheduled a special delegates conference on August 26 to whittle the number down to five.

But, Yendi MP Farouk Aliu Mahama believes Dr Bawumia stands tall among his contenders and the delegates will vote for him.

“I did the album in my constituency and I control 700 people in the constituency. My other contestants control 50 each and they are all for Bawumia. So tell me, who are they going to vote for? It’s a done deal for Bawumia,” he stressed.

Farouk Aliu Mahama also fought off claims that MPs have abandoned parliament to campaign for the Vice President. He described the assertions as inaccurate.

For some days now, Parliament has struggled to form a quorum to do business with the Minority claiming that NPP MPs are following the Vice President around.

According to Farouk Aliu Mahama, the NPP MPs respect their duties in Parliament and have never left the House to follow the Vice President on his campaign tours.

“The MPs from the Ashanti Region who were with Dr Bawumia are back in Parliament and the quorum issues in Parliament have nothing to do with the MPs following Bawumia. I am a strong supporter of the Vice President, but I’m here to do my duties. The NDC’s strategy of trying to tie everything to Dr Bawumia is a signal that he is a threat to John Mahama.”

Meanwhile, the National Council of the New Patriotic Party is expected to deliberate and decide on the recommendations of the vetting committee on the flagbearer aspirants on Thursday.

It follows the adoption of the committee’s report by the National Steering Committee of the party at its meeting in Accra last Tuesday.

The Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye presidential vetting committee cleared all the 10 aspirants in the upcoming presidential primary subject to the approval of the National Council.

Election 2024: Grounds are fertile for NDC but Bawumia can change the dynamics – Manasseh Azure

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure has predicted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is likely to win the 2024 elections, however, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia can change the dynamics if given the nod as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a tweet, he stated that: “The grounds are fertile for an NDC victory in 2024. However, if Dr. Bawumia wins the NPP primaries, some important dynamics will change.”

His statement comes at a time when the NDC has already elected a presidential candidate while the NPP is preparing to elect one.

In his tweet, he entreated the National Democratic Congress to work extra hard and eschew any form of complacency in order to win the ultimate goal which is the seat of the presidency.

“The NDC must work extra hard to win. The odds will still favour the NDC, but any form of complacency will result in an upset,” he added.

The 2024 elections will be a keenly contested race, especially, between the two main political parties, the NPP and the NDC. The NDC is certain their long standing flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, is the best candidate to secure the seat of the president, thereby reelecting him to lead the party.

The NPP on the other hand is expected to elect a flagbearer in November. All 10 flagbearer hopefuls of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been cleared to contest in the upcoming primaries slated for November 4, 2023.

They are former Trade Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Kwadwo Poku an energy expert, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Energy Minister Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong.

The others are Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, a former Offinso North MP,  former Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, a former Attorney General Joe Ghartey and  Francis Addai-Nimoh, former MP for Asante Mampong.

A former National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku, is leading Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign for the 2024 general election to secure the party’s flagbearer position.

Given his impressive track record in political organisation and mobilisation, Awuku’s appointment comes as no surprise. He played crucial roles in helping the party win power as National Youth Organiser in 2016 and retain power in 2020 as National Organiser.

Nicknamed “Capo” for his political sagacity, Awuku is a prominent figure within the NPP.

Additionally, Nana Akomea, the Managing Director of Intercity STC Coaches Limited (STC), has taken on the role of Communications Director for Dr Bawumia’s campaign. As a seasoned communicator, Akomea brings extensive experience in effectively conveying political messages to the public.

The appointments of Awuku and Akomea highlight the emphasis on effective communication strategies in Bawumia’s campaign. Their proven capabilities and expertise are expected to bolster Bawumia’s chances of securing the NPP’s nomination as the flagbearer and winning the 2024 general elections.

The Vice President is also expected to announce other key players like Frederick Opare-Ansah and Nii Adjei Sowah to strengthen the team.

Dr Bawumia’s choice of Awuku and Akomea reflects his determination to lead the party to victory in the upcoming elections as the race for the NPP flagbearer intensifies.

  • Ken Agyapong is attacking Bawumia out of desperation – Adomako Baafi

Ken Agyapong is attacking Bawumia out of desperation – Adomako Baafi

Former Director of Communication of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi, Adomako Baafi, has weighed in on recent attacks on Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia launched by the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong

Mr Adomoako Baafi believes the attacks by Mr Agyapong are being launched out of desperation.

“If you’re competing with someone and he becomes desperate, you can easily detect from their speech,” he said.

The astute politician was responding to a question posed by a presenter on Rajab media when he made the claims.

The presenter has referred him to recent comments by the Assin Central MP, suggesting that the Vice President who is the second in command of the current administration has been touting himself as a strategist, yet, Ghana has been dragged to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout under the leadership of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government.

“They go about claiming to be strategists; strategist is what has brought us here today. Ghana is the only place that those who send the country to the IMF claim to be strategists.

“For someone who claims to be a strategist, the dollar was GHC4 equivalent when we took power today the dollar is GHC12. You think you are a strategist? Excuse me, strategist! Please,” he said.

In response to these claims, Mr Baafi who described the Vice President as a “unifier” said Dr Bawumia’s team is unperturbed by such comments and would not respond to them.

“Bawumia has never insulted anybody. He is someone who loves people,” he said.

He further expressed strong optimism and the hope that Mr Agyapong will soon join Dr Bawumia’s team.

“ Bawumia is a unifier. So, if he has been able to add people like Kofi John, Opare Ansah and the likes to his campaign, it would not be difficult for him to at the end of the day add Ken,” he said in Twi.

The former NPP communications boss added that there is no need for Bawumia’s team to reply to the attacks coming from Ken Agyapong’s team because the vice president is going to win the flagbearership race.

Ten people would be contesting in the NPP presidential primaries which is slated for August and November 2023.

A super delegate conference would be held in August 2023 to reduce the number of contenders to five while the primaries proper would be held in November 2023 to choose the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.

The ten candidates include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; a former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen; Kwadwo Poku, an energy expert; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey; a former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto; a former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong; MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; a former MP for Offinso North, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku; and a former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko.

  • Bawumia currently leading contenders, Alan lacking significance – Ofosu Kwakye

A well-known National Democratic Congress (NDC) member named Felix Ofosu Kwakye has asserted that Alan Kyerematen, who wants to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has lost touch with the political realities.

He disclosed that, in terms of his campaign, the candidate running to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the impending 2024 elections is not making a sufficient contribution or performing to the necessary standards.

“It’s regrettable, but Bawumia is currently leading the contenders. Unfortunately, Alan Kyerematen seems to be lacking in significant influence. From my perspective, and with utmost respect for him, it appears that he may be out of touch with the present times. Perhaps his best opportunity was back in 2007, and he might have achieved better results if he had put in more effort then.

I don’t foresee Konadu Apraku and other candidates making a considerable impact. The most captivating candidate, in terms of rhetoric, is Kwabena Agyepong. However, it’s important to note that the average delegate isn’t receptive to internal criticism; their primary concern is the party’s external success. Hence, any actions that potentially arm the opposition could work against the candidate when the delegates ultimately decide.”

No Islamic group in Nigeria is funding Bawumia’s campaign – Campaign Team insists

The campaign team of Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has disputed reports that a Nigerian Islamic organisation is supporting his campaign.

The claims were made public by a Nigerian journalist named David Humdeyin, who claimed that a group called ACF was sending money to Ghana to assist the Vice President’s campaign.

However, Mr. Bawumia’s campaign’s Communications Directorate stated in a statement that the stories are incorrect and should be ignored.

    Below is the full statement.

Allegations of Islamic Funding for the Bawumia Campaign is False

The attention of the Bawumia Campaign Team has been drawn to a post by one David Humdeyin, a journalist in Nigeria, that the Bawumia Campaign is being funded by some Islamic group in Nigeria called the ACF.

We notice that the same narrative has been copied by some persons and groups in Ghana on social media. This narrative is obviously false, fabricated, and only serves the propaganda purposes of its promoters.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Bawumia Campaign has no funding or any linkage with any Islamic group in Nigeria or anywhere else.

We also note that the said David Humdeyin has demonstrated a penchant for making similar claims against some persons and groups in Nigeria without any basis whatsoever

The Bawumia Campaign is focused and will not be distracted by such vain untruths.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been very diligent and transparent from his days as a scholar, banker, and politician throughout his life and will not depart from these now and forever.

Bawumia’s camp denies allegations of Islamic funding for the Vice President

The campaign team of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has refuted claims that their flagbearer hopeful is being funded by some Islamic group in Nigeria called the ACF.

In a communique issued by the team’s Communications Directorate, they noted that such falsehood is being peddled by a Nigerian journalist, David Humdeyin.

Apparently, the same narrative, the team says, has been copied by some persons and groups in Ghana on social media.

For the Vice President’s campaign team, such reportage is unfortunate as “Dr Bawumia has no funding or any linkage with any Islamic group in Nigeria or anywhere else.”

“This narrative is obviously false, fabricated, and only serves the propaganda purposes of its promoters,” the circular added.

The team asserts that David Humdeyin has demonstrated a penchant for making similar claims against some persons and groups in Nigeria without any basis whatsoever.

They have therefore entreated to disregard such reports since “Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been very diligent and transparent from his days as a scholar, banker, and politician throughout his life and will not depart from these now and forever.”

  • NPP would have lost 2016 elections if not for Bawumia – Dr Stephen Amoah

NPP would have lost 2016 elections if not for Bawumia – Dr Stephen Amoah

Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has given credits to Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for preventing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2016 presidential election.

He attributes the party’s victory to Bawumia’s contributions, particularly in the 2012 election petition.

Dr. Amoah refutes claims that Bawumia is not an NPP member and emphasizes his significant efforts for the party.

“What made me like Bawumia is just one thing. I remember when we went to the Supreme Court, one day we were only 21 in court and the vice president was in the witness box and was being bombarded with questions.

“…. if not for Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, we would not have won the first election that we won (the 2016 elections). He was the one who explained issues for us to get clarity (in the 2012 election petition).

“What he went through made NPP ready for the subsequent election which we won. But today, people are saying he is not a number of the party,” Dr Amoah said in Twi as he was addressing members of the NPP at a campaign event for the vice president.

Dr. Stephen Amoah, the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry and MP for Nhyiaeso, asserts that although all NPP flagbearer hopefuls are qualified, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the best candidate.

He urges supporters of all contenders to avoid politics of insults and tribalism, aiming to keep the party united after the presidential primaries.

Ten candidates will compete in the NPP presidential primaries scheduled for August and November 2023. A super delegate conference in August 2023 will reduce the contenders to five, with the proper primaries taking place in November 2023 to select the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.

The candidates include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, energy expert Kwadwo Poku, Attorney General and Minister of Justice Joe Ghartey, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former General Secretary of the NPP Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Offinso North Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.

  • NPP MPs who have blasted Ken Agyapong for attacking the party

NPP MPs who have blasted Ken Agyapong for attacking the party

MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has received criticism for his recent comments targeting Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia concerning Ghana’s economic challenges.

Agyapong is among nine contenders vying for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership.

Bawumia, considered the primary frontrunner, enjoys widespread support from numerous MPs who have been accompanying him on campaign trails nationwide.

Four pro-Bawumia MPs responded to Kennedy Agyapong’s criticism, deeming it baseless and unjustified, as the economic challenges were a result of external factors.

Currently, Ghana is under an International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, aiming to secure US$3 billion over three years. The initial tranche of US$600 million was disbursed earlier this year, with more tranches scheduled for release.

    1. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, MP for Sekondi

Egyapa-Mercer emphasized that any assessment of the Vice President’s performance should begin from 2017 and 2018 until the present.

He firmly stated that the economic downturn was influenced by global factors beyond the Vice President’s control, absolving him of responsibility for the country’s economic challenges.

“Dr Bawumia was superintending over an economy that was growing 7 percent on average in 2017, 2018, and 2019 and so in 2020 what happened? They recognize the issues that have taken us to where we are that are not attributed to Bawumia, that is not to say that he is reneging on his duties.

“He did not bring covid and if you think covid did not have an impact on the economy, that is your beef. He stands tall and he is the one to help us break the 8,” the Deputy Energy Minister said.

    2. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, MP for Takoradi

Darko-Mensah firmly asserted that the economic downturn was primarily caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. He pointed out that this fact has been confirmed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is currently providing financial assistance to Ghana through a bailout program.

“..we were all in the country when COVID broke. Were you the one who manufactured COVID? Even the IMF who are giving us a bailout said we (NPP) did not create the problem, as our economic challenges are as a result of COVID,” he stressed.

In addition, Darko-Mensah highlighted take-or-pay energy-sector contracts signed during the previous government’s tenure as a significant contributor to the economic challenges.

He questioned the connection between these contracts and the decision made by Dr. Bawumia, himself, or Ken Ofori-Atta to seek assistance from the IMF. Darko-Mensah implied that these contracts were separate issues from the necessity of seeking IMF support.

    3. Kofi Amankwa-Manu, Atwima-Kwanwoma Constituency

Amankwa-Manu, from the Atwima-Kwanwoma Constituency, stated that all NPP MPs, including Kennedy Agyapong, who voted in favor of various revenue measures to secure the bailout deal, cannot now criticize Bawumia for the economic situation as he is not an MP.

In response to Kennedy Agyapong’s critique of Bawumia’s economic management, Amankwa-Manu posed a rhetorical question in an interview with Oyerepa TV: “If you were against our IMF approach, wouldn’t you have voted against it?” He implied that Agyapong, having supported the IMF approach, cannot now shift blame onto Bawumia.

“But if you were part of the decision and you claim that because of an internal election (NPP flagbearership race), now that we have voted and agreed on the issue, it is now that some people want to walk back their steps? Are we in Parliament with Bawumia?” he quizzed.

“I don’t belong to that school of thought, what is not good for me, I will strictly state so from the onset. He cannot absolve himself now having voted for the E-Levy, an IMF conditionality. He has no moral right to absolve himself having gone with the team to agree on the issue,” he added.

NPP supporters in Nkawkaw allegedly chase out Annoh-Dompreh over delayed stadium project

It is alleged that supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Nkawkaw forced Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh and his group out due to an unfinished stadium project.

According to a report from Adomonline.com, Annoh-Dompreh’s speech, in which he advocated for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer, was abruptly interrupted, causing unrest in the hall.

While the NPP polling station women’s organizer, Berikisu Saani, denied any physical confrontations, Annoh-Dompreh was compelled to leave the venue as he failed to calm down the agitated supporters.

The Nkawkaw stadium, a project promised by Annoh-Dompreh, remains unfinished, intensifying the frustrations of party members.

Saani stressed the importance of completing the stadium project before the 2024 general election, urging the government and constituency leaders to prioritize it. She emphasized the significance of securing both the seat and peace in the constituency.

Expressing her disapproval of the supporters’ actions, Saani called for a more respectful approach to addressing grievances.

“No one exchanged punches at the Paris hall. On Tuesday, Bawumia’s team, headed by Annoh Dompreh, came to visit us, but there was no trading of blows. Annoh-Dompreh assured us that the Nkawkaw stadium would be built for us. After he finished addressing us, some people interrupted him and said, He should stop the lies,” NPP polling station women’s organiser, Berikisu Saani, told Adomonline.com

MP for the Nkawkaw Constituency, Joseph Frimpong, promised that the contractor would arrive by August 15, 2023.

The NPP’s Electoral Party Coordinator, Paul Deyen, explained throughout the chaos that the youngsters were merely venting their dissatisfaction and not provoking any disorderly incidents.

  • Your attacks on NPP, Bawumia are becoming unbearable – Takoradi MP to Ken Agyapong

Your attacks on NPP, Bawumia are becoming unbearable – Takoradi MP to Ken Agyapong

Western Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Takoradi, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has criticised his colleague and Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.

The minister accused Agyapong, a candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership, of being selfish and unfair in his attacks on the administration and another NPP candidate, Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia.

The minister defended Bawumia from a withering attack by Ken Agyapong, who recently blamed Bawumia for Ghana’s economic troubles, in an interview on Takoradi-based Radio 360 on Monday (July 17).

Darko-Mensah argued that COVID was to blame for the economic downturn, and that fact has been confirmed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is currently bailing out Ghana.

“..we were all in the country when COVID broke. Were you the one who manufactured COVID? Even the IMF who are giving us a bailout said we (NPP) did not create the problem, as our economic challenges are as a result of COVID,” he stressed.

Additionally, Darko-Mensah pointed out that take-or-pay energy-sector contracts, signed during the previous government’s tenure, contributed significantly to the economic challenges. He questioned the relevance of such contracts to Dr. Bawumia, himself, or Ken Ofori-Atta’s decision to seek assistance from the IMF.

Regarding Kennedy Agyapong, Darko-Mensah highlighted that the MP has been a major recipient of government contracts for several years. He suggested that Agyapong should consider returning those contracts and refrain from accepting any new ones due to the current economic challenges faced by the country.

“Ghana is a member of the IMF and they have given us some assistance during COVID. Since Ghana went to the IMF the cedi is stabilising …what intrigues me however is, between you and I, we all know one of the biggest government contractors is the man you are talking about (Kennedy Agyapong).

“When things were bad and he was benefitting, that was right, but now that he wants to be a presidential candidate, he has forgotten about all those benefits he derived and wants us to forget about all that?

“Then he should reverse (sic) all those contracts he earned and hand it to others and say because Ghana is now back to the IMF, I will not take any government contract again. If he continues like that then technically you want to act like a greedy person who wants to benefit both ways.

“If he wants to find someone to blame for Ghana going to IMF, why won’t he also along the lines of equity say that he will not take any of the contracts he is taking during this IMF period? He is just misleading people and it needs to be straightened,” the minister added.

Andrew Egyapa Mercer says Bawumia is the one who can help NPP break the 8

Deputy Minister for Energy and Member of Parliament representing Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has voiced his unwavering belief in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s capability to steer the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to success in the upcoming 2024 elections.

He expressed his confidence in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership capabilities during an appearance on TV3’s New Day. Mercer stated that among the potential contenders, Bawumia currently stands as a prominent figure and he firmly believes that the Vice President will play a pivotal role in leading the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to victory in the upcoming 2024 general election, aligning with the party’s objective of securing another term in office.

According to him, Bawumia’s message is resonating with party delegates and predicted that he would receive an overwhelming endorsement in both the super delegate and the national delegate conference on both August 26 and November 4, 2023, respectively.

“We are in a challenged economy, no doubt. Because for that, why will the president take a decision for us to go to the IMF, we had issues. But what caused those issues I’m saying is relevant for anybody who is doing a dispassionate critique of managers of the economy to take into consideration.

“And I am assured that based on the interactions that have gone on so far, those that I have participated in directly, ones that I’ve been monitoring on all media platforms, certainly the vice president’s message is sinking with the delegates of the New Patriotic Party and they will give him an overwhelming, emphasis, overwhelming endorsement on two occasions that is August 26 and also November 4, 2023,” he said.

The MP acknowledged the dedication and service of the other aspirants to the NPP, but he said the vice president can do the job for the party and build upon the achievements of the current administration.

“Because we are clear in our minds that he [reference to Bawumia] has what it takes to lead our party. That is not to say that the rest are incompetent, all of them have what it takes, they’ve all worked for the party, and they have contributed their dues.

“But I am clear in my mind that his excellency the vice president stands tall, and he is the one who can take this party into 2024 to help us break the 8 and keep our friend’s track records who we all know from the government,” he added.

“NPP will never support the acts of LGBTQ” – National Chairman explicitly declares

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), currently in governance, has publicly condemned the practice of LGBTQ+ in Ghana.

The National Chairman of the NPP,Stephen Ayensu Ntim, emphasized that the party adheres to religious and cultural values that strongly disapprove of such practices, and they will not deviate from these beliefs.

Mr. Ntim communicated the party’s stance on this contentious matter during the one-year thanksgiving service for the National Executives, held at the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC) – Atomic in Accra on Sunday, July 16, 2023.

The NPP has faced mounting pressure to clarify its position on issues related to same-sex marriage, particularly after some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused them of plotting to hinder the anti-LGBTQ+ bill in parliament.

During the service, the National Chairman of the NPP took a firm stance against those advocating for the legalization of LGBTQ+ in Ghana, leaving no room for doubt or ambiguity.

“The New Patriotic Party which I represent as national chairman, wishes to articulate explicitly in no uncertain terms that we have a position on the topic of LGBTQ+ that is making rounds not just in Ghana but across the globe and out position is simple, we as a unit frown on the practice of LGBTQ+”

“Most of you here agree with me that, Ghana as a country collectively abhor LGBTQ practice, why would I, my general secretary and all the Men here stoop so low and opt for LGBTQ+? “He asked.

“I want to state emphatically without any fear, that the Npp that I Chari will never support the atcs of LGBTQ”He told the congregation.

Mr Stephen Ntim emphasized that accepting LGBTQ+in Ghana was not only abominable but a threat to human race, adding that humanity will cease to exist if same sec marriage is legalized.

The Thanksgiving service was held at the Pentecost International Worship Center at Atomic in Accra on Sunday July 16, 2023 and it was to thank God for seeing them through in the past year after assuming office as national executives.

UG law students dismissed include wards of top NPP gurus, police chief

The University of Ghana School of Law, under the leadership of Dean Prof. Raymond Atuguba, has taken a bold step by dismissing 23 students for poor academic performance.

Among those affected is the ward of a prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) official who currently holds a key position in a State Energy Company.

This move by the school has sent a strong message that no one, regardless of their connections or influence, is exempt from the consequences of academic underachievement. Even senior police officials and associates of the Ghanaian parliament, who reportedly tried to prevent their dismissal through various means, were unsuccessful in their attempts.

Last week, MyNewsGh.com reported on the University of Ghana School of Law’s decision to dismiss these students for failing to meet academic requirements. Unusually, the school publicly disclosed the names and ID numbers of the affected students, potentially subjecting them to stigmatization.

The list obtained by MyNewsGh.com reveals that four regular law students and 19 weekend students, admitted within the past one to two years to pursue the Postgraduate LLB Degree, were among those dismissed. The affected students were informed of their dismissal several weeks ago, but they were given the opportunity to reapply and undergo a new admission process if they wished to continue their studies.

As Ghana’s premier institution for legal education, the School of Law at the University of Ghana has a longstanding reputation for preparing students for successful careers in the legal profession. Upon graduation, students from the University of Ghana School of Law typically apply to the Ghana School of Law Makola for further training to become practicing lawyers.

The UG School of Law’s journey began in the 1958/59 academic year as a department within the Faculty of Social Studies. It later evolved into a faculty in the 1960/61 academic year before ultimately becoming a fully-fledged school in the 2014/15 academic year.

  • Felix Kwakye Ofosu labels NPP’s delegates conference as convoluted

Felix Kwakye Ofosu labels NPP’s delegates conference as convoluted

NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has criticised the New Patriotic Party’s delegates system.

He says  the NPP’s super delegates’ conference is a convoluted electoral process.

He stated that the system which has been designed to reduce the final number of NPP presidential candidates to be presented to the general delegates’ conference restricts the frontiers of democracy.

According to him, there was nothing wrong with the old system where all the candidates would be presented to the general delegates’ conference for a collective choice to be made.

Describing the super delegates’ conference as a knee-jerk response to criticism the party faced in 2007, he said the NPP should not have tampered with the process.

“To be honest with you, I am not entirely sold on this super delegates business. I think it was a knee jerk response to the criticism they faced in 2007 when 17 people showed up. I think they misapprehended the criticism at the time. The criticism had to do more with the flamboyance and opulence displayed at the time and not necessarily the numbers.

“Because really apart from creating an opportunity for an unwieldy ballot paper which may confuse less enlightened voters, I don’t see what real problem that poses. What are you going to do for instance if in the parliamentary primaries 17 people show up to contest one particular constituency? Are you going to hold a super delegates’ conference on that one too?”

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further noted that the super delegates’ conference would inadvertently skew the electoral results towards the “establishment candidate” as electorates would want to side with power.

“What people were concerned about was the overt show of opulence that is what you ought to have dealt with, you didn’t need to tamper with the process because what it does for me is to restrict the frontiers of democracy. You see we’re talking about 900 super delegates, these are crème-de-la-crème, anybody who is everybody in the NPP.

“And indeed Boakye Agyarko has complained that the tendency is for that process to skewed towards the establishment candidate because you see the people in that bracket are people who will naturally gravitate towards the centre of power in order to benefit from whatever largesse that they think that there is, and so in terms of the fairness and the openness and transparency of the process there is a bit of a difficulty.

“I don’t think that they should have done that. They should have still allowed the broad masses of the delegates to decide who qualifies. If you have to organize two rounds of voting then I think that everybody who is eligible to vote within your party ought to have had a say in how the numbers are pruned down,” he said.

Okraku Mantey takes bold step towards securing Ayesuano seat for NPP

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Mark Okraku-Mantey, has obtained nomination forms to participate in the parliamentary primary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayensuano Constituency located in the Eastern region.

The decision brings finality to years of rumour that Okraku-Mantey was eyeing the seat.

The NPP lost the Ayensuano parliamentary seat to the NDC in 2020 when then incumbent Member of Parliament Ayeh Paye was defeated by current MP of opposition National Democratic Congress, (NDC) Addy Saforo Teddy, by 19,221(47.31) votes against 18,970 (46.71%).

However, speaking to journalists after picking the nomination form in the Constituency office of the party, Mark Okraku-Mantey was hopeful he will snatch the seat back for the NPP.

The founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Slip Entertainment, admitted that apathy and complacency affected the party in the constituency, hence the loss of the seat by the NPP.

He has promised to unify the party at the grassroots level for the party to regain its popularity to win the seat.

Mark Okraku-Mantey thus urged the party members to work tirelessly devoid of parochial interest to build the party to the ‘Breaking the 8’ agenda.

He also touched on development of human capital through education and job creation using tourism.

“It has a lot to do with leadership. The people we know can influence how we can also develop ourselves and other people, especially in education. If we get the majority of our people educated the people will end up developing the environment themselves. So, knowing where I am now as the deputy minister of tourism, culture and creative arts, the people I know in the business fraternity before I became a minister and the world at large, if I put all my resources together, I can help, make Ayensuano a better place. I can help with capacity building, human resources and then development. So, I’m here to help, build the people who made me who I am today”.

He explained that “When it comes to the youth, I’m not sure anybody can drive the youth more than me as an entertainer. So I’m going to use that to drive the youth to all come together and fight for the seat. This is a traditional NPP seat, we just need to make a little effort and with leadership from the top and the people from the grass root, if we believe in ourselves that we are going to do it, why not, leadership can make it happen”.

Agona East NPP chair picks nomination forms to contest constituency seat in NPP primaries

As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) opens nominations for orphan constituencies across the country, the Agona East Constituency Chairperson, Mrs. Hannah Asamoah, has picked a nomination form to contest in the Parliamentary primary.

The nomination form was collected by four Electoral Area Coordinators on behalf of Mrs. Asamoah, accompanied by numerous polling station executives, as they visited the party office in Agona Duakwa on Thursday.

The coordinators, namely Michael Panyne (Agona Mensakrom), Ben Afful (Agona Nantifa), Christopher Afful (Agona Duabone), and Christian Otchere (Agona Nkran), expressed their belief in Mrs. Asamoah’s affability, marketability, and credibility as an aspirant.

They see her as the ideal candidate who can lead the party to victory in the 2024 Parliamentary election, surpassing the current Agona East NDC MP, Queenstar Pokuaa Sawyer.

In response, Mrs. Asamoah expressed her gratitude to the coordinators and polling station executives for their confidence in her candidacy. She acknowledged their demonstration of unity and teamwork, highlighting their readiness to work together to secure the seat.

Mrs. Asamoah emphasized the importance of unity and understanding among the numerous supporters, urging them to put aside their differences and unite for the success of the party. She stressed that a cohesive front was essential in achieving victory.

Additionally, Mrs. Asamoah assured the supporters that she would mobilize resources and provide logistical support to empower the grassroots and motivate them to work diligently towards the party’s goals and objectives.

After the nomination period closes on August 10, 2023, the committee will submit a report on the nominations to the Central Regional office in Cape Coast. From there, the report will be forwarded to the National office in Accra.

Nana Kojo Frempong emphasized the significance of unity and cooperation among party members, highlighting that the party had previously won the Parliamentary seat in 2004 and 2008 due to the strong camaraderie among its members. He expressed hope that members would once again work diligently to secure victory in the upcoming 2024 election.

Violence erupts as NPP members clash in bid to oust Atebubu-Amantin MCE

A scene of chaos unfolded at the Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Assembly on Friday, July 14, 2023, when members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) made attempts to forcefully remove Edward Owusu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the municipality.

According to a news report by UTV, the NPP members who were going to chase out the MCE were met with stiff opposition by his supporters.

This, the report indicated, resulted in a serious fight among the NPP supporters.

A video of the incident, shared by UTV, showed at least 10 men landing blows at each other in front of the assembly.

Edward Owusu was appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be the MCE of the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality in 2017.

Reports indicate that in 2021, the resident of the municipality called on the president not to reappoint because they were not happy with some of his actions.

NDC’s Yamin accuses Wontumi of firing shots at Assin North; questions why IGP is quiet

National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Yamin, has rebutted media claims that the Ghana Police Service excelled in their handling of the Assin North by-election.

He stated that numerous mishaps occurred, but the NDC has chosen not to address them as they had no impact on the decision made by the people of Assin North.

In a widely circulated video on Facebook, the NDC national organiser expressed that despite the police prohibiting individuals, including NDC officers, from carrying firearms at polling stations during the by-elections, prominent members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) were seen openly carrying guns.

Furthermore, he mentioned that among the NPP individuals who possessed firearms was Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the party’s Ashanti Regional chairman. Chairman Wontumi even discharged a gunshot that resulted in the damage of a vehicle belonging to an NDC member.

“We are silent on the Assin North, not because the IGP help anyone. If we want to talk about how the police helped the NPP, we may not be going anywhere. That is why we have been quiet because, in the end, we won the elections which every Ghanaian was looking for.

“That is why we have left everything, order than that why has IGP Dampare not arrested Wontumi and Owusu Bempeh for showing weapons, holding weapons and going round with them when police officers didn’t have the chance to hold weapons?

“They held it (the weapons) and they didn’t just hold it, they fired it. The police are aware of this, they (the police) saw it. The cars they fired at were sent to the police station,” he said.

  • Leaked Tape Controversy: Barker-Vormawor accuses authorities of selective justice

Leaked Tape Controversy: Barker-Vormawor accuses authorities of selective justice

Lead convenor for the of the #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has raised concerns about the manner in which the government is dealing with a leaked tape purportedly revealing a scheme involving a prominent member of the Ghana Police Service and a high-ranking member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The alleged plot revolves around pressing charges against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) as a means to manipulate the 2024 election outcome.

In a post shared on Facebook, on Thursday, July 13, 2023, Barker-Vormawor said that he is not so worried about the desire of the senior police officers in the tape to change the IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, which he describes as normal internal office politics.

He said that what he is so worrying is the intention of senior police officers to rig an election; adding that if the people captured in the tape were members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), they would be in jail by now being prosecuted for treason.

“But these individuals were directly discussing rigging the 2024 elections using the police as the instrument of such rigging. Senior Police Officers were plotting how the elections can be compromised. Now that is not just criminal but subversive of our democracy

“I dare say that if the conversation had been about rigging the elections for the NDC, they would have already been picked up and charged with Treason felony.

‘It seems because they were talking about rigging elections for the NPP, this government, consistent with its playbook, has resolved to ignore the compromise of national security interests of this Republic,” parts of the post read.

Barker-Vormawor, who is currently being prosecuted for the “I would organise a coup myself” comment he made in 2022, said that the state can continue trialling him, as it turns a blind eye to the real dangers to Ghana’s democracy.

    Background:

A leaked audio recording, allegedly involving a Police Commissioner and a politician discussing a plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, has ignited public outrage.

The recording features an officer who identifies himself as “Mensah” and a politician who is reportedly a regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Their conversation revolves around plans to remove the IGP from office due to fears that he would be too firm during the 2024 elections and prevent any potential rigging.

The Commissioner of Police also specifically identifies the IGP’s handling of the Assin North by-election as evidence of his commitment to ensuring free and fair elections.

The Parliament of Ghana has set up a 7-member committee to conduct a probe into the leaked tape after calls by the NDC Members of Parliament.

Proponents of the government have however stated that the allegations in the said tape should not be taken seriously because the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has no plans to change IGP Dr Geroge Akuffo Dampare.

  • He won’t aid NPP and will maintain that everything is fair – police officer caught on camera about to remove Dampare

He won’t aid NPP and will maintain that everything is fair – police officer caught on camera about to remove Dampare

In the release of some recordings revealing a plot by a group of senior police officers to depose the current Inspector-General of Police (IGP), security and elections have become a major topic of discussion in the country.

The plot involved courting the support of a senior member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The group’s purported motivation, according to the recording’s specifications, was to remove George Akuffo Dampare as IGP because of his suspected membership in the opposition National Democratic Congress and to allow the rigging of the general election of 2024 in favor of the ruling NPP.

A 50-minute tape of one of the senior police officers, a particular Mensah with the rank of Commissioner, confirms the latter purpose.

“So that is my fear that during (the 2024) elections, how is this man going to help us; he can’t help us. He won’t. He will make sure that everything is fair. But Alhaji you don’t go to elections like that, you don’t do elections like that at all. The Supreme Court said elections is won at the polling station so whatever you need to do at the polling station you have to do. And the security has a major role to play,” COP Mensah who touted himself as staunch member of the governing party is heard saying in the audio.

In other parts of the audio, the senior officer who had come to the conclusion that Dr. Dampare’s control over police affairs made the NPP’s ‘Breaking The 8’ agenda impossible said that, despite his high qualifications for the IGP position, he would not mind losing out as long as the current IGP was replaced with a pro-NPP officer.

“Alhaji, my only problem… this current IGP if we do a mistake and take him to the elections, it will not help us. It will not help us at all and I will not mind if the position is not given to me but that man is changed; because he will not help us, he will not help us at all… he won’t help the party at all.

“I know there are others who are also good for this position, if I don’t get and this man is changed and those people that we think they are our men get I (it is ok)… Because we need to break this 8. That is important, we need to break the 8… Because I wouldn’t want doctor to become the flagbearer and then we lose the elections… ” he said.

He continues by highlighting the fact that manipulating elections is the only way to win them and that the NPP must take steps to have a supportive police hierarchy, which is essential for carrying out such an agenda.

  • 2 NPP offices in Sunyani closed

2 NPP offices in Sunyani closed

Disgruntled New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in Sunyani East Constituency have take action by securing the Bono Regional and Constituency offices, expressing their dissatisfaction with the executive members’ non-compliance with a court ruling.

The aggrieved members threatened to deal drastically with anyone who dared to open any of the barred offices for work, because, per the Court ruling, the Constituency did not have executives.

A press release signed by Mr Stephen Kwarteng, an Assembly Member of the  Atoase Electoral Area near Sunyani and copied the Ghana News Agency, said the members had earlier petitioned the Party’s regional and national secretariats.

It said this was during the polling station executives and electoral area coordinator’s election exercises in February last year, to ensure that the right thing was done but, the petition had fallen onto “deaf ears.”

The release said those exercises were suspended following an injunction placed on it by the Court when vetting of prospective candidates had commenced.

It said the Court agreed with the petitioners that there had been no Polling Station Coordinators’ elections in Sunyani East, so, the Party should delete any purported album of the Constituency from its national data.

The release added that no new executives had been elected for the Sunyani East, thus, Mr Musa Damtal, the incumbent remained the Chairman and any attempt to force any illegitimate executives on the Constituency would be resisted.

It reminded the Party’s national executives and elders that Sunyani East remained a stronghold of the NPP, saying, the situation required urgent attention to save the Party from losing the seat.

They appealed to the national executives to intervene as a matter of urgency, to allow for the conduction of the Constituency polling station coordinators and executives’ elections.

This would enable the Constituency to participate in the Party’s decision-making process at the regional and national levels.

NPP, NDC communicators ‘trade blows’ on Twitter over ‘Akufo-Addo is corrupt’ tag

Communication Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, and Deputy Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Maleek Basintale, were involved in a physical altercation on the microblogging platform Twitter.

The dispute arose following a critical attack launched by the NDC Deputy Communication Officer on the character of the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, during a panel discussion on TV3 Newday.

During a live broadcast of the TV3 Newday show on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the Deputy Communication Officer of the NDC, Maleek Basintale, clashed with a member of the NPP’s communication team, Benjamin Gyewu Appiah.

The NDC deputy national communication officer had described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a corrupt president during a discussion on the leaked tape of an alleged plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, on TV3’s ‘The Big Issue’ programme.

In reaction to this, the Communication Officer of the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah in a tweet described the actions of Basintale on the show as reckless and unrelated.

“I have just finished watching TV3 New Day and wish to describe the attempt by the communicator to tag President Akufo-Addo with corruption as unrelated, reckless, and beyond the pale. The said claims are false political rumours and should not be repeated. Communicators must be mindful of their utterances because making or repeating these false claims could be costly. Kind regards to Mr. Roland Walker,” Ahiagbah tweeted.

This tweet did not sit well with Basintale, who replied that instead of defending the NPP on Twitter, Richard Ahiagbah should move to a studio to do it just like the NDC’s Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi does.

    “Dear @RAahiagbah,
My name is Malik Basintale, an elected DNCO. Instead of spewing vain and desolate threats here, learn to wake up at 5 am, drive to a studio by 7 am and defend your party. At least learn from my boss
@SammyGyamfi_ NPP appointed you and not @elonmusk,” Basintale also added.

  • Alan Cash donates 500 bags for construction of medical facility at Koforidua

A presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kyerematen, has generously donated 500 bags of cement to support the construction of a medical facility for the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua.

The church expressed gratitude for his selfless gesture, acknowledging it as a demonstration of his non-selfishness.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your unselfish contribution to the construction of our Medical Facility in Koforidua. Your donation of 500 bags of cement is very important to us. It will help us to commence the construction of our medical facility.

“May this letter serve as a receipt of the 500 bags of cement you donated to us for which we are most grateful,” the letter said.

The letter, dated July 12, 2023, further stated that Alan Kyerematen, in addition to being a presidential candidate, is also a valued member of the Anglican Communion.

  • Dr Akoto promises to establish party-owned businesses for NPP

A flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has unveiled a business plan that aims to provide financial resources to the party and create employment opportunities for its members.

The plan involves setting up businesses owned by the party at the national, regional and constituency levels.

Dr Akoto, a former Minister of Food and Agriculture, said these businesses would compete for contracts in the market and generate profits for the party and its members.

He said this would end the suffering of the party members and make the party more robust and competitive in the global environment.

He called his plan: ‘Linking party to government’.

    Interaction

Dr Akoto shared his vision with the party delegates from the Cape Coast South constituency during his Central Regional campaign tour last week.

The tour, which started at Gomoa West constituency, also took him to Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam constituency.

He was accompanied by two co-campaign Chairmen, Alfred Boye, a former Greater Accra NPP Regional Chairman, and Ken-Wuud Nuworsu, a former NPP Volta Regional Chairman; the National Coordinator of the campaign team, Peter Oteng Darko, and Campaign Spokesperson, Dr Prince Sodoke Amuzu.

Dr Akoto, a former two-term Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso, told the delegates that workers in all the party-owned businesses would be party members.

“At the constituency level, the managing director of the company will be the constituency chairman while the board members will be the council of elders or elders of the party.

We [referring to the government] will award contracts to these businesses to make them profitable.

You are going to be gainfully employed in this setup, and all your suffering will be a thing of the past”, he said.

He added “with this machinery in place, when something happens at the constituency level, you don’t need to call anybody to bring their contributions because there will be enough to take care of contingency issues”.

    Deception

Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto urged the delegates not to fall for candidates who promised to pay salary to polling station executives or give 10 appointments each to all the 275 constituencies if they became flag bearer of the party and President of Ghana.

“Don’t let anyone deceive you of paying you salary when he is elected.

    It is a fallacy.

What I have outlined is sustainable and the best way to resource you financially.

    My vision is the best.

It is globally accepted and is done in the US, UK, and South Africa and all the advanced countries.

When the companies are set up, we will give the contracts to executives to generate profit to take care of our members”, he explained.

He further said none of his competitors had a better solution for their plight than him, stressing that “I have served the NPP well in all capacities and I feel your burden more than any other of the flag bearer aspirants.

A vote for me will bring all these sufferings to an end because I understand what you are going through at the polling stations”.

  • Kennedy Agyapong stands by ‘NPP members are foolish’ comment in 2015

Kennedy Agyapong stands by ‘NPP members are foolish’ comment in 2015

Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has defended his decision to describe members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in unprintable words over some actions they take.

In 2015, Mr Agyapong went ballistic after discovering a leaked tape where former Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo, was making comparisons to the achievements of the Akyem and the Asantes. Per reports, the audio was leaked by an NPP member to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Eight years later, Mr Agyapong says he still stands by his comments.

“They are saying I have said that NPP members are foolish. Let me explain what happened. Honourable Osafo-Maafo met members of the party at Koforidua and he was talking to them about the history of the NPP, particularly the role the Akyem people played in the establishment of the party.

“During his remarks, he at a point stated that the people of Akyem played a more important role than the Ashantis. They recorded him and sent the audio to NDC radio stations and newspapers and the following day the issue blew up.

“I went on a programme on Adom FM and the tape was played. After hearing it, I said NPP members are foolish and that I don’t know why I belong to the party. What was the mindset of those who recorded Osafo-Maafo and gave it to NDC radio stations?,” he asked.

Mr Agyapong made the reiteration while speaking to members of the NPP at the Berekum East Constituency in the Bono Region this week as part of his campaign to become the party’s flagbearer.

According to him, should a similar instance occur, he would not restrain himself from making such comments.

  • Angry Kennedy Agyapong rain curses on NPP members

Angry Kennedy Agyapong rain curses on NPP members

Flagbarer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has invoked curses on individuals in the party whom he claims have stabbed him in the back.

During a recent campaign event in the Berekum constituency, Kennedy Agyapong claimed that some individuals in the party he had hoped to receive their support in his pursuit for the flagbearership position have turned their back him, offering their assistance to other contenders.

Describing them as “ungrateful human beings”, he said their ingratitude will one day catch up with them.

“Very very ungrateful human beings because when you look at the young boys a certain candidate has deployed and the things they go saying about me; they are people I’ve helped too. People I’ve helped in this world. I campaigned for some and bought pickups for some to become ministers, I even lobbied positions for some of them but today they are saying I should never mention that I’ve helped them. But as God lives, everybody will get their reward,” he stated.

Mr Kennedy Agyapong further revealed a situation of ingratitude meted out to a party faithful who financially assisted the NPP, but had been abandoned by the very individuals she assisted and has been left for ruins.

“There is an ex-police officer in Berekum here whose wife operates a cold store at Tema. It was the woman who paid duty for the clearance of 80 pickup cars… But do you know something, if you if you don’t vote well in the NPP, today is her turn but tomorrow may be your turn.”

“The woman after all the money she spent on NPP has had her business collapse under an NPP government. There is one minister who has to go and beg the woman; he thinks he has seen everything in this life. A young minister from Ashanti Region and I am not saying this to disgrace the woman but whenever the woman mentions his name, she goes on to say ‘Ken let me visit the loo and come.’ I swear to God. You can hear her pain for all the financing she did for the party and how NPP has repaid her; very ungrateful human beings,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, approved all ten candidates who filed to contest the flagbearership race.

They are former Trade Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Kwadwo Poku an energy expert, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Energy Minister Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong.

The others are Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, a former Offinso North MP, former Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, a former Attorney General Joe Ghartey and Francis Addai-Nimoh, former MP for Asante Mampong.

‘Coalition of the defeated’ have ganged up against Bawumia – Presidential staffer

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is facing a coalition of nine candidates in the flagbearership race of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This is according to a presidential staffer Charles Nii Teiko Tagoe, who is known to be a pro-Bawumia person, selling his message especially on social media.

“9 against 1,” he wrote on Facebook before describing the nine other contenders as “The coalition of the defeated even before the battle begins. Do not swim against the tide,” he added.

The Greater Accra Region has so far been covered by Bawumia’s campaign, which is currently in the NPP stronghold of the Ashanti Region.

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the New Patriotic Party approved each of the 10 candidates that submitted applications to run for flagbearer.

Before the party’s main convention on November 4, 2023, the ten, which includes Kennedy Agyapong, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, and John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, will be put through a process called a super delegates congress where the number would be cut to five.

Kwabena Agyepong declares himself ‘only eligible flagbearer of NPP’

A potential flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Agyepong, has asserted that he is the most fitting candidate to guide his party to success in the 2024 elections.

The aspiring presidential candidate of the NPP articulated that the individuals being projected as potential winners of the party’s presidential primary are closely associated with the current struggling government. Consequently, he emphasized the necessity of revitalizing the fortunes of the NPP by introducing a change in leadership.

During the official launch of his campaign in Accra on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, Kwabena Agyepong made these remarks, highlighting the importance of changing the trajectory of the NPP’s fortunes by distancing the party from individuals associated with the current struggling government.

The NPP flagbearer hopeful further added that his party and the entire country needs a new face and a pair of clean hands to steer the affairs of the nation and he had all these prerequisites.

“The Akufo-Addo government despite chalking successes in road and health infrastructure, tourism and of course education, it has struggled to deliver on a number of fronts. We started out saying that we are breaking dependency on Western donor agencies. The slogan ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ rang from the Jubilee House with intensity and vigour but today, we lie on a stretcher. Before the International Monetary Fund, the IMF, Ghana has become in the eyes of many a case study for how not to do it.

“Our party the NPP therefore, cannot afford to put forward those who led us to this stage and expect Ghanaians to embrace during the 2024 election. We need a new face, a pair of clean hands, a leader to reconnect with our base and earn the trust of Ghanaians.

“I humbly submit, I, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong offer the hope of a fresh start for Ghana. I’m not a newcomer. I did not join our great tradition midstream after the danger had abated. I have served this party right from the get-go and in many capacities. I was there when it mattered most and also when the party was at the peak of its glory. I gathered valuable experiences doing so,” Kwabena Agyepong said during his campaign launch.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party announced that all ten of its flagbearer hopefuls have been cleared to contest in the race after vetting.

The clearance allows the 10 candidates to engage in the Super Delegates Congress of the NPP, where the number will be shrunk to only 5 candidates. It is this final-5-candidate list that will be presented to NPP delegates to vote on for a presidential candidate towards the 2024 general elections.

The 10 candidates include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey, a former Minister of Trade, Alan Kyerematen, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, a former General Secretary of NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former MP for Offinso North, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, a former Energy, Minister, Boakye Agyarko, a former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh and businessman, Kojo Opoku.

Leaked tape exposes risk of disaster if IGP Dampare is removed – Security Analyst warns

A security analyst, Adib Saani, has cautioned the government against any attempt to dismiss the incumbent Inspector General of Police (IGP), as indicated in a leaked audio recording purportedly capturing a meeting involving high-ranking officials of the Ghana Police Service and a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In his assessment, the security analyst highlights that the removal of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the current IGP, from his position is expected to have adverse implications for Ghana’s democratic system.

During an interview on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, Adib expressed his belief that if the IGP were to resign from his position, it would contribute to allegations of the government plotting to manipulate the 2024 elections. This, in turn, would compel electoral stakeholders to take actions that could result in catastrophic outcomes.

“If by any chance the IGP is removed, it would be ill-timed and it would be very dangerous for our democracy.

“And it would confirm all the suspicious making round that the government wants to use the police to manipulate the elections,” he said.

The security analyst said that the government has no reason to remove the IGP because he has performed his duties wonderfully well, and removing him would only amount to punishing him for doing his work well.

“Compare the work the IGP did in Kumawu and Assin North to the work that was done in Ayawaso West Wuogon. The IGP then (during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election) was never fired, nothing happened to him.

“See the clinical job they did in Assin North. Why do you have to vilify someone for doing his work, it is unfair and dangerous,” he added.

Security Analyst calls for dismissal of Police Commander in leaked plot to remove Dampare

An audio recording, purportedly featuring a conversation between a Police Commissioner and a politician discussing a scheme to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has sparked widespread controversy.

A security analyst, Adam Bonaa, has strongly criticised the individuals implicated in the incident, asserting that they should be immediately dismissed from their positions without any further delay.

The recording features an officer who identifies himself as “Mensah” and a politician who is reportedly a regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Their conversation revolves around their intentions to oust the IGP due to fears that he would be too firm during the 2024 elections and prevent any potential rigging. The Commissioner specifically points to the IGP’s handling of the Assin North by-election as evidence of his commitment to ensuring free and fair elections.

Reacting to the leaked audio in an interview with Starr FM on July 11, 2023, Adam Bona expressed his dismay at the leaked audio, describing it as “despicable” and an indictment on an institution that should protect democracy and the electoral process.

“It’s a shame to have top police officials attempting to unseat one of their own in this despicable manner. And virtually indicting an institution that is supposed to help the referee to protect the sanctity of our democracy and our electoral process,” starrfm.com.gh quoted him to have said.

He further stated that the top police officials involved should not continue in their positions. He highlighted the alarming nature of the conversation, noting that the questions raised by the politician in the audio were the same questions many concerned citizens would have asked.

“So for me we will want to call it a day of shame. Listening to portions of the audio and for me I will say that these top police officials don’t deserve to be in the service, not a day beyond today. The simple reason is that as you heard, the Alhaji they were engaging asked a lot of questions that ordinarily some of us might even be asking,” he added.

Renowned economist Kwame Pianim foresees tough road ahead for Ghana’s NPP in 2024 elections

Ghanaian Economist Kwame Pianim is anticipating major obstacles for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2024 election campaign, attributing them to present economic challenges.

In an interview on Eyewitness News, Pianim stressed the daunting task ahead for the NPP in securing victory amidst anticipated severe economic hardships for Ghanaians.

Pianim expressed doubts about the NPP’s ability to convince voters and break the eight-year cycle of governance, advising the government to approach its actions with caution and deliberation.

“No, it’s going to be difficult in 2024. And this is why I applaud the young people who are brave enough and prepared to take on this challenge and sacrifice for the nation,” Citinewsroom.com quoted him.

Recognizing the need for a transformative approach, Pianim highlighted the necessity of avoiding the repetition of ineffective processes.

He stated, “Madness will be defined as repeating the same processes and expecting to get the same results. If we don’t change drastically how we develop and make haste slowly, we have to cut our coats according to our clothes.”

Furthermore, the economist suggested the elimination of procurement agencies and value-for-money audits, arguing that such institutions provide opportunities for corruption.

Pianim emphasized the importance of obtaining value for money in government expenditure and stated, “We have to make sure the monies we get, we will get value for money. And all the procurement agencies, value for money audit, we scrap all of them. Because they provide avenues for people to just take money, and we need to get rid of incompetence and corruption.”

It is ridiculous to make dual citizenship a crime – Economist

The former president John Dramani Mahama‘s plan to change the constitution to permit people with dual citizenship to hold certain positions in Ghana has the support of famous economist Kwame Pianim.

According to Mr. Pianim in an interview with the media, the constitution needs to be changed to allow people with the necessary expertise to contribute their fair share to the advancement of the nation.

He called it “ridiculous” that dual citizens of Ghana are barred from serving their country under the 1992 Constitution’s present provisions.

“It is ridiculous that when you have a Green Card, you cannot occupy political office, the only thing that makes sense is the person not becoming president because it is only the president that signs agreements and so why are we trying to fly on one wing when we can fly on two wings?”

In addition, Mr. Pianim forecast that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will have a challenging election in 2024.

He said that the government’s efforts to revive the faltering economy will be incredibly challenging.

“2024 is going to be difficult and that is why I implore the young people who are brave and prepared to take the challenge to get the economy back to do so. It is going to be difficult to get the economy back.”

Kwabena Agyapong slams NPP party, says “Ghana Beyond Aid” has failed

Kwabena Agyei Agyapong has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by categorically asserting that the Ghana Beyond Aid mantra has failed horribly.

He said the economy was struggling and on life support.

He feels that those responsible for the catastrophe under the Akufo-Addo administration shouldn’t be given the green light.

He claimed that the party needed fresh faces and new leadership to manage the country better than this.

He declared that the NPP needed a candidate who was eager to improve the nation from its current state today, Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

“Our party cannot, therefore, put forward those who let us to this state and expect Ghanaians to embrace them during the 2024 elections.” “We need a new face, a pair of clean hands, and a leader to reconnect with our base and earn the trust of the people. I humbly submit to offer the hope for a fresh start for Ghana.

“It’s a matter of public record that I always availed myself for this tradition. More importantly, in the run-up to the 1992 elections, under the Rawlings dictatorship, when it was life-risky to associate with the NPP.”

The candidate must have been active in the party since its beginning, he continued.

“I’m not a newcomer, I didn’t join NPP through the mainstream after the danger has abated. I have served this party right from the get-go in many capacities. I was there when it mattered most, and also when the party was at the peak of its story.”

  • NDC MP’s boycotting Parliament is only to blackmail executive – NPP MP

NDC MP’s boycotting Parliament is only to blackmail executive – NPP MP

Member of Parliament (MP) for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has strongly criticised his National Democratic Congress (NDC) counterparts for their choice to abstain from attending parliamentary sessions.

Their decision is attributed to the ongoing criminal prosecution involving several NDC members, including James Gyakye Quayson, the MP for Assin North.

Mr Ansah Opoku accused the NDC MPs of holding the country’s governance hostage in response to a statement made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He said that Akufo-Addo’s comments on Quayson going to jail was only a reaction to assertions by NDC member that the people of Assin North would vote for the MP even if he would be going to prison.

Parliament or elements in parliament should not be seen stampeding another arm of government… Why should a comment by the president who does not control the judiciary lead to the NDC boycotting parliament?

“… You went to Assin North to campaign on the basis that if even Mr Quayson would be put in jail, the good people of Assin would vote for him. The president in his response said that who in his right senses would want a Member of Parliament, who sits in jail, working for him?” he said.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mpraeso legislator accused the NDC MPs of blackmailing the government with their demand for Quayson’s trial to be dropped.

“… I think that the NDC is only engaged in some blackmail. I strongly believe that they are taking into account the numbers in parliament now, the business of the day and they want to blackmail the executive.

“How do you suggest that the state should file a nolle prosequi when there is precedence to this matter,” he said.

    Background:

The Minority in Parliament for the second time abstained from participating in parliamentary business on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, following the hearing of Gyakye Quayson’s ongoing criminal case in court.

In a show of solidarity, the entire Minority caucus accompanied the Assin North MP to court.

Last Thursday, the minority first boycotted siting after the minority took a firm stance to abstain from participating in parliamentary business on days when Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson, is scheduled to appear in court for an ongoing criminal case.

  • The “new dawn” Kwabena Agyepong promises Ghanaians

The “new dawn” Kwabena Agyepong promises Ghanaians

A new Ghana – one that tackles the numerous current challenges be it socio-economic or political has been promised by flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwabena Agyepong.

On Tuesday, July 11, Mr Agyepong provided elaborate details of what the new era he seeks to achieve will entail while speaking to an audience at the launch of his 2024 campaign at the Silicon Production House at Tesano.

He plans to undertake six actions to build a ‘better’ Ghana. They are as follows:

    1. A lean wholly downsized government, one that works efficiently and effectively to
deliver to the aspirations and expectations of the Ghanaian people. The Ministries will
be reconfigured to align with the constitutional Cap of 19 Cabinet to be assisted by an
equal number of deputies in addition to the 16 in the regions making up a team of 54.
Stakeholder consultations will be undertaken to introduce an upper limit of 9 Judges on
the Supreme Court and possibly remove the retirement age of 70 and allow Supreme
Court judges to serve until they are unable to perform their functions.

    2. Enforcing Law and Order, imposing Discipline and ensuring Compliance of Rules
and Regulations. A Zero Tolerance policy anchored on a drastic penalty regime coupled
with a strong political will to punish those who tinker with the public treasury. The Law
should work to uproot corruption, protect individual and property rights.

    3. Cutting waste in the public sector by ensuring that there is Value for Money in public
procurement and here I will draw heavily on my engineering background to facilitate
the freeing up of vital resources to support the empowerment of the youth through
technical education, entrepreneurship, and small business start-ups.

    4. Restore Meritocracy and Professionalism to the Civil and Public Services by
significantly reducing unbridled politicization and interference. It is time to end the
wasteful seminars, workshops, fora, and expensive retreats and rather move into
implementation mode, utilising the recommendations of the huge volumes of reports
    gathering dust.

    5. Urban Regeneration and Renewal. The current Urban Ecosystem is dysfunctional. A
structured, coordinated, and integrated approach must be adopted and implemented to
create more liveable cities and human settlements where basic needs do not become a
permanent dream. A Technical Advocacy Committee TAC of the Professional bodies
within the Built Environment (Surveyors, Planners, Architects and Engineers) will be
set up to help resolve the challenges thereof.

    6. Entertainment and Sports. In the Creative Arts, the issue of protection of intellectual
property and copyright is dear to me. Creatives need to be empowered to own their
work and earn a decent living from their talent. It is a sector that has the potential to
absorb our teeming youth and it is my dream to see creatives thrive in Ghana. My
passion for sports is public knowledge, nevertheless, Ghana cannot be the jack of all
sports and master of none. Soccer, Boxing and Athletics will obviously be priority with
a focus on school sports and Colts soccer. We have got to revive interest in our Premier
League and restore the organic link between communities and traditional football teams
and of course the all-important role of Government in football administration in Ghana.

There is too much impudence in Ghana and no one is working to stop it – Kwabena Agyepong

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kwabena Agyepong, has bemoaned the lawlessness in the country, impeding the substantial development of the country as a whole.

During the launch of his 2024 campaign at the Silicon Production House at Tesano, Accra, on Tuesday, Mr Agyepong indicated that the relevant authorities have turned a blind eye, hence allowing moral decay and economic instability to foster.

In his speech, the former NPP General Secretary said “There is too much impudence in this country and it’s been seen and nobody gets punished.”

He cited the lack of enforcement of laws as the bedrock for Ghana’s retrogression.

“Ghana has practiced almost every economic module but it’s the lack of implementation, enforcement of our own regulation. That has brought us where we currently are.”

“My heart has been troubled over the direction of our country,”he added.

In view of this, Mr Agyepong promises a new dawn where “there will be zero tolerance for these things.”

He continued: “There will be a political will to drive the process so that no one can steal the government’s money and walk away.”

Secret tape reveals plot by NPP guru, senior police officials to demote Dampare

A series of covert recordings obtained by GhanaWeb reveal details of a scheme by some senior members of the government’s New Patriotic Party and the Ghana Police Service to remove Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the incumbent inspector general of police, before the 2024 elections.

The group, who were captured in a secret meeting, came to the conclusion that Dampare’s leadership style and purported membership in the opposition National Democratic Congress would make the NPP’s “Breaking the 8” goal difficult.

“Alhaji, my only problem… this current IGP if we do a mistake and take him to the elections, it will not help us. It will not help us at all and I will not mind if the position is not given to me but that man is changed; because he will not help us, he will not help us at all… he won’t help the party at all.

“I know there are others who are also good for this position, if I don’t get and this man is changed and those people that we think they are our men get I (it is ok)t… Because we need to break this 8. That is important, we need to break the 8… Because I wouldn’t want doctor to become the flagbearer and then we lose the elections… ” one of the senior officers told the senior NPP members who is believed to be a former regional chairman of the party and now a traditional ruler.

The senior police official continued by acknowledging that sometimes elections call for dirty tricks to win, but does not mind losing as long as a pro-NPP IGP is placed.

“This IGP is not correct, he won’t help us. Alhaji you have done politics, you know elections is not… sometimes elections mafia work is inside,” he stated to which the party guru concurred saying “not just sometimes, mafia work is inside. As for elections mafia work is involved.”

The senior officer expressed vehement criticism of Dr. Dampare’s security plan, pointing out how it was biased against the NPP and using the recent by-election in Assin North as evidence.

He said that Dr. Dampare is an NDC member who had advancements under NDC administrations and worked as the late President John Evans Atta Mills’ aide-de-camp.

“Alhaji whatever we need to do to get somebody else to supervise these elections (2024) we need to do. Because as we speak, this IGP is not fine with the military, he is fighting with the army. You find out, if any army officer is your friend, you call him and ask him that how do you see this IGP. He has been arresting military cars; commanders’ cars,” he said.

He further disclosed that the vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and a candidate for the NPP’s presidential nomination, was not in favor of Dr. Dampare being the IGP and that the two had a tense relationship.

“If you find out yourself, he is not in good terms with Dr Bawumia… find out if you are close to Dr Bawumia because he knows that Dr Bawumia did not recommend him as IGP… Dr Bawumia knows that if we take him to elections we’ll have difficulties,” he stated.

The concerned senior party member expressed worry over the lack of awareness among leading members of the party and the government regarding the matter. However, they were informed by a senior officer that previous attempts to bring attention to the issue had been unsuccessful.

Additionally, it was revealed that Dr. Dampare has garnered support from close relatives of the president, including his executive secretary, Nana Asante Bediatuo, and Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.

The party official, taken aback by this information, emphasized the significance of having a favorable security service in order to win elections, stating that “without them, we can’t do anything.”

Sources within the security sector, as reported by GhanaWeb, disclosed that the secret recordings, including videos that touch on critical national security matters, have been brought to the attention of those in power.

“There are even video recordings but due to national security issues they are being withheld,” the source disclosed.

Other parts of the video detail the cabal’s plans to further their goals through a variety of channels, including spiritual ones.

At one occasion, the former NPP party chairman received a call that he identified to his guests as coming from the president.

  • Prioritize health workers’ retirement security – Dr Arthur Kennedy

Prioritize health workers’ retirement security – Dr Arthur Kennedy

A Ghanaian physician based in the US, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, has highlighted the importance of addressing the retirement plans for health workers in Ghana rather than solely discussing car allowances.

Dr. Kennedy recalls conversations among young Ghanaian doctors about “The Mustapha-hiade syndrome,” which refers to doctors who struggle to make ends meet after decades of dedicated service once they are on pension.

To address this issue, Dr. Kennedy suggests a proposal. After approximately 10 to 15 years of service, he recommends that the government provide health workers with half of their retirement funds and designate it as a down payment for a residence.

The remaining amount can then be paid gradually as they continue their careers.

“We need to look at retirement security for those who are back in the system. Young doctors use to talk during my time there about Mustapha-hiade syndrome. They were referring to doctors who were distinguished and very respected who have given three to four decades of service and then when they retired they lived in penury.”

“We need to look at retirement security. For example, after somebody has worked for maybe 10 to 15 years, give them half of their retirement money and then the government marks it as a down payment for a residence and then the rest of their career they are paying for it, do the same thing with vehicle. When you do those things, then they feel more invested in the system and then also make sure that their living circumstances match that of their colleagues’ who went into politics and other professions,” he said on JoyNews’ AM show on Monday.

There is a growing call for stringent measures to address the challenges faced by health workers in the country. Nurses are leaving the country in search of better working conditions in developed nations like the US and UK.

Alongside the concerns about attrition within the health sector, there is also a discussion regarding the issue of qualified nurses not being assigned to various health institutions. Experts suggest that the number of nurses who have not been posted exceeds those leaving the sector for better opportunities elsewhere, posing a significant concern.

The General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, highlights the lack of recognition as a demotivating factor for health workers in the country. He explains that negotiated payment ranges for different categories of health workers, such as midwife specialists, senior specialist nurse midwives, and consultant nurse midwife specialists, have been reduced without consulting the health unions.

To address these issues, Dr. Tenkorang-Twum and other representatives have petitioned the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, seeking assistance in resolving their concerns and improving the working conditions of health workers.

  • Assin North’s ‘small lesson’ forced NPP MPs to change their minds on LGBTQ+ Bill – Gyamfi

Assin North’s ‘small lesson’ forced NPP MPs to change their minds on LGBTQ+ Bill – Gyamfi

National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has asserted that the members of parliament from the NPP (New Patriotic Party) were compelled to support the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021 (anti-LGBTQ+ bill) due to pressure from the constituents of Assin North.

He claims that the Members of Parliament (MPs) from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were intentionally delaying the passage of the bill until the Assin North election took place.

During the NDC’s celebratory rally to mark their victory in the Assin North by-election, Sammy Gyamfi asserted that it was the choice of Assin North voters to reject the government that compelled the MPs to reconsider their positions.

“After the people of Assin North taught them (the NPP MPs) a small lesson during the by-election they have changed their minds. During the second reading of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill in Parliament, they all raised their hands in support after they were initially hesitating.

“It was only one person who spoke against the bill, her name is Ursula Owusu,” he said in the Twi dialect.

He added that if the government has truly learnt a lesson from the people of Assin North, it should withdraw the suits it has sent people to file in court against the bill.

Meanwhile, the MP for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has said that only one of the three New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs, who were initially supporting the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill, stayed loyal to the drafting of the bill.

Speaking in an interview on Neat FM on Thursday, July 6, 2023, Sam George said that the NPP MP who stayed loyal to the course was the MP for Assin South and Deputy Minister for Education, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour.

According to him, the other NPP MPs who were initially sponsoring the bill failed to attend meetings to draft the bill and even missed the final presentation of the bill to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, because of the pressures they were under.

The MP made these remarks while reacting to a statement by Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, the MP for Asante Akim, who was part of the NPP MPs initially sponsoring the anti-LGBTQI bill, that he was not present for the presentation of the bill because he was busy.

“He had sixteen meetings to put together the bill with the coalition. Ask him (Andy Appiah) Kubi whether he attended any of these meetings. Every time, they have an excuse to give, even on the day of the presentation they want to give an excuse.

“If today all of them are now on board, they are welcome. But I would continue to celebrate Honourable Ntim Fordjour because on that day (the day of the presentation of the bill) we knew the pressure that he came under but he said he was a priest and he believed it was the right thing to do,” Sam George said.
