  • Calm returns to Bono Region after bloody registration centre confrontation

Calm has returned to the Banda Constituency in the Bono Region following a confrontation at a registration centre that resulted in the death of one person.

This is according to the Bono Regional Police Command which says the presence of security personnel has been beefed up on the ground.

The scuffle reportedly began after some persons associated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the constituency allegedly confronted brother of the MP for the area, Ahmed Ibrahim, over reasons not yet known.

Bono Regional Police PRO, Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong told Citi News police are gathering evidence and will soon make an arrest.

“We are gathering intelligence that will lead us to the right culprits so that we will not go and arrest some people and later release them. There is reinforcement there, and now the situation is under control for now. People are moving to and fro for their own business. Police, military and immigration are on the ground.”

  • Fuel prices must go down immediately NDC demands

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately ensure that fuel prices at the pumps are reduced.

According to the party, the declining prices of crude oil on the international market, amongst other factors, should have led to a drastic reduction of fuel but the government has refused to do so.

According to the opposition, the call for reduction is to help commercial drivers as they have been compelled to reduce the number of passengers that board their vehicles in order to adhere to social distancing.

Speaking to the media in Accra today, July 13, 2020, National Communication Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, described the increase in fuel prices as unacceptable and demanded that prices be reduced immediately.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we cannot end by urging government to reduce fuel prices, instead of the recent consistent increments at a time crude prices have plummeted on the world market. The need to reduce fuel prices comes at a time government has directed all commercial drivers to reduce the number of passengers they take in line with social distancing protocols. This has drastically reduced the incomes of transport owners who are still being asked to pay more for fuel. This is unacceptable, and prices must go down immediately.”

    Attendant increase in transport fares

Commercial transport operators over the weekend increased transport fares by 15%.

This was after the transport operators made a proposal for the government to allow them to revert to carrying their usual full seating capacity or for the fares to be adjusted upwards by 30%.

After considering both proposals, government subsequently approved a 15% increase.

  • NPP campaign discourse should be substantive, deliberative – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has emphasized that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) campaign communication for election 2020 should be devoid of ethnocentrism, religion, mudslinging and gender biases.

Rather, the party’s campaigns should be based on a more substantive and deliberative discourse, where the competencies, records, output and achievements of the government are presented to the Ghanaian electorate for comparison with that of opponents.

The President made the call when he held a virtual meeting with members of his campaign communications advisory team on Sunday in Accra.

He is presently on 14?day precautionary isolation at the Presidential Villa in the Jubilee House as a result of a member of his inner circle testing positive for COVID-19. He is in his ninth day of seclusion though he tested negative to the disease.

President Akufo-Addo told the team that the December polls, being an historic one where an incumbent president and his predecessor went head to head in an election, demanded that the records of their tenure be laid bare before the people.

He pointed out that it was “absolutely critical” going into the December contest, that the NPP’s political discourse hinged on the comparison of records of his administration and that of his predecessor, in terms of the social and economic advancement of the country, and the quality of the leadership that they both provided during their time in government.

“We still have to ask ourselves who can manage the affairs of our country both in normal times and as well as in extraordinary time, like this last three or four months,” he stressed.

For the President, the quality of achievement of his government in the areas of health, education, infrastructure and the economy, had been one that had positively affected the country and the entirety of Ghanaians, an important message which the campaigns should reflect.

“There’s no part of Ghana that can say somehow or rather they’ve been left out of the programmes and development of this government….and that has to be very critical aspect of our outreach,” he said.

“Every nook and cranny can point to something we have done which matters to the people, whether it’s the establishment of schools, the enhancement of agriculture, or about the development of infrastructure; the water, roads….all these go into idea that our programme is meant to serve the generality of the people, and it’s important that we continue to stress that,” he added.

President Akufo-Addo was very emphatic that the party’s messages during the electioneering season should not at any material time rouse negative sentiments of any kind, or sully the political atmosphere.

“We have to do a campaign in Ghana which is not about where you come from. Whipping up ethnic sentiments has never helped this country and it will never help us…and we should be the very first to recognise this diversity, this mosaic of Ghanaian tapestry, which is full of so many different elements that come together in the Ghanaian statement.

“We should be stressing the Ghana project. And in making the Ghana project, the other issues, whether you are a Moslem or Christian, shouldn’t be part of our discourse and clearly gender should also not be part of our discourse.

“We are looking at all times, records of competencies…so the discussion before the Ghanaian people should be a discussion about competencies, abilities, records, achievements, outputs. That is something that I would like us to stress very much,” he underscored.

The President also made clear that he had no agenda to deny any Ghanaian the right to determine who led the country, as was being bandied in certain quarters.

“All the talk about we have some tribal agenda, we want to disenfranchise people in the north and the Volta, I don’t understand where that is coming from.

“It is deliberate, it’s artificial anyone who knows the mechanics of Ghana, knows that it’s is artificial and is being done for short term artificial political gains and I’m not sure it’s a legitimate way of advancing a political agenda, and certainly it’s not one that I would want to promote,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo impressed on the team to push also the message for the compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols, noting that compliance with these set rules will determine the level of success of the fight against the pandemic.

“I think there is a need to continue stressing on the need for respecting the COVID protocols. We are in government and it is very important that that aspect of our concern about the need for our people to be safe comes out positively in everything we say. People have to take the protocols seriously.”

  • NPP, NDC rally supporters to get involved in registration exercise

Ashanti Regional Executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have rallied their supporters to patronize the ongoing voter registration exercise.

The parties said it was important that the supporters trooped to the registration centres in their numbers to register in order to exercise their franchise in the December 7 elections.

“Our positive response to the exercise is critical to retaining the ruling NPP in power,” Mr. Kwasi Kyei Danso, the Regional Communications Director of the Party, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi.

Democracy, he said, was about numbers, stressing that NPP supporters had no reason to stay at home while the Electoral Commission (EC) conducts the exercise, meant to compile a new register for the upcoming elections.

Mr. Kyei Danso said the party was satisfied with how registration had gone peacefully in the course of the first phase of the exercise, explaining that the general conduct of the EC officials and security personnel was commendable.

The GNA gathered that as at the time of filing this report, at the end of the first phase of the registration in the Region coming to a close, a total of 364, 756 people had been registered, with 53.9 percent being female and 46.1 percent being male.

Of the total registrants, 72.3 per cent went through the processes using the Ghana Card, while 1.7 per cent registered with passports and 26 per cent relying on guarantors to facilitate their registration.

Reacting to the ongoing exercise, the NDC Regional Chairman, Nana Akwasi Andrews, reminded their supporters of the need not to be left out of the registration.

They should take their destiny into their own hands as the party prepares to win the elections massively, he said.

He expressed concern over what he described as “the high presence of security personnel in strongholds of the party in the Region”, citing Asawasi and Drobonso.

“Most people feel intimidated with this development,” he said, and asked the authorities to look at this trend carefully since the nation was not at war.

  • Voters register: Akrofuom NPP parliamentary candidate appeals to indigenes to register

The newly elected NPP parliamentary candidate for Akrofuom Constituency, Mr. Alex Blankson has appealed to the people of Akrofuom to register in their numbers in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

Mr. Blankson has pointed out that the figures gotten from the Mensonso Electoral area at the end of their voter registration so far are not encouraging.

The Electoral area which had six registration centres were able to register two thousand and ninety-three (2,093) people at the end of six days of registration against a total projection of three thousand five hundred and six (3,506).

The Parliamentary Candidate said the District Assembly should intensify the voter registration education in the district especially in the Nkoranza Electoral area where the registration is starting from Monday, 6th July to Saturday, 11th July so as to sensitize the general public on the need to participate in the registration.

Commenting on the need for massive registration, Mr. Blankson said “Politics is all about numbers. It is numbers that gave us constituency in 2004, and it is the same numbers that made the President bless us with a district status. You cannot do away with numbers in lobbying for the developmental projects from the Central Government and other agencies like GNPC”.

“It is therefore incumbent on all political leaders in Akrofuom District and Nananom to do everything within our preview to see a massive voter registration for this registration period,” he stressed.

All these happened when a section of Akrofuom indigenes living in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis called on him at his residence in Takoradi to congratulate him on his massive win for the just-ended NPP Parliamentary primaries. The Akrofuom primaries which saw seven people vying for the candidature position, the highest in the country, ended peacefully electing Alex Blankson, grandson of the Late Nana Okai Ababio, with a massive win beating his close contender, Mr. Maxwell Sarfoh-Abu, the former Chairman for the Constituency.

Mr. Blankson seized the opportunity to call on all indigenes of Akrofuom District living outside Akrofuom, especially Obuasi, to, as a matter of patriotism, come home and register. “This, he reiterated, “has indirect consequences on the fortunes of our land in terms of development”.

He added that arrangements would be put in place to assist outside dwellers to come home and vote in December.

The group, on their part, promised the Parliamentary Candidate of their support should he win the general elections come December.

“We do not doubt your ability. We have stayed with you here in Takoradi from infancy, and we know so very well what you can do for the people of our land,” they added.

The gathering led by one Brilliant Opuni Karikari, convened at the party’s office in Taifa to outline their dissatisfaction and frustration with their Member of Parliament (MP), Sara Adwoa Sarfo adding that she failed to initiate formative tasks as she guaranteed in 2012 and 2016 Parliamentary elections.

At a question and answer session at Taifa Mail station on Sunday, Mr Karikari, together with the others proclaimed their allegiance to the NDC’s up-and-coming politician, Madam Elikplim Akurugu.

“Our sister, the MP, Adwoa Sarfo has baffled we all. Our streets are truly horrendous; potholes have become as profound as barrels and our kin continue experiencing floods from time to time. We vote to get individuals to lead us and initiate our formative plan, however today that can’t be said about our MP who we upheld to Parliament,” Karikari told press men.

He said the MP didn’t demonstrate any worry to the occupants during the COVID-19 lockdown and furthermore neglected to meet gatherings inside  on formative issues.

“The NDC competitor, Elikplim Akurugu is the person who has been meeting gatherings to guarantee them of her help. She has even helped chip away at the potholes on our streets which was our anxiety. She likewise conveyed staples to the individuals during the lockdown time frame when our MP was mysteriously gone, so we will bolster the NDC to win the seat,” Karikari included.

Sources state the MP’s exhibition over the most recent 8 years had gone under investigation among top gathering authorities in the electorate for which reason Mike Oquaye had the help to challenge Madam Adwoa Sarfo.

  • Alleged NPP thugs invade polling station, beat applicants for resisting registration of ‘strangers’

There was confusion at Aketebor registration center in the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency of the Eastern Region on Thursday after NPP thugs invaded the Polling station to beat applicants for resisting registration of strangers transported to register at the centre.

The thugs transported in a KIA Truck were accompanying some Constituency Executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP ) moving from one registration centres to the other.

They beat three applicants and threatened the electoral officers at the Aketebor Polling station as the only armless young Police officer looks on helpless.

The confused scuffle brought the exercise to a halt for some minutes.

The registration officials were not happy over the conduct of the Constituency executives and the thugs allegedly led by the Constituency Chairman Moses Tetteh popularly known as Arizona.

One of the victims, Shadrack Omonyo told Kasapa News he was slapped three times by the thugs after he questioned why the NPP has brought people they claim come from Asesewa to register in the village.

The Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress in the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency Bismark Tetteh told Kasapa News the exercise has been generally smooth but for the thugs deployed by the NPP intimating residents in rural areas.

The National Youth Organizer of the NDC George Opare Addo accompanied by the Eastern Regional Youth Organizer Okai Mints who coincidentally arrived at the polling station as part of their monitoring duties in the region condemned the action of the NPP thug and called on the Police to stop them else the NDC will defend themselves.

  • Youngman who leaked a video and pictures of his alleged NPP master’s money room reported dead.

A video that went viral on social media involving a young man by name Appiah Richard was flagged by the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC communicators on Facebook as allegedly emanating from the home of an NPP guru.

Its however unclear which New Patriotic Party NPP guru whose home that video emanated from into the public domain.

Others have also debunked the video as emanating from a vault of a Bank and has no link with any personality.

However what remains to be justified is the death of the young man as nobody knows who or what killed him exactly.

  • How Sir John’s death was ‘foreseen’ by a Twitter user

Sad news came in in the late hours of the 1st day of July 2020. It had to do with the unfortunate demise of one of the NPP’s strongest characters, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John. He served as the former NPP general secretary, and was very active during the court appeal after the 2012 elections.

One might almost say his death was unforeseen and unexpected. But do you know how coincidental it can be that someone speaks or remembers someone, and just then something happens to the person. For, example, the Akans have a saying to this effect, that if you mention someone’s name in their absence, and they do not appear, then something might have happened to them. This is a kind of a foresight into the future. And it is a normal occurrence.

Well, minutes after Sir John’s passing away came in, I stumbled upon a Twitter post by a Twitter user called Tutankhamun. He had coincidentally posted a video of Sir John in an interview with Delay. He was reminiscing how much he had missed seeing him on screen.

Just a day after this post, Sir John was reported dead. This has got myself and other people wondering. Could he have foreseen his death? Obviously, this was a sort of a final tribute to him. But was he aware that the man he posted was going to die in just 24 hours?

This has caused stir among people.

Even if it was coincidental, perhaps it was a greater being telling us of what lay ahead. If only we deciphered the clue earlier.

Rest in peace, Sir John. You have served well.

Mr Arnold Attakora, NDC Agent at the Kabore Primary Centre said “so far so good” as the process ended well.

Mr Chris Awuku, the NPP agent also said he was satisfied with the proceedings as no major incident had been encountered.

Madam Loretta Dzandu, the Registration Officer said the Biometric Voter Registration machine developed a technical problem but 91 new cards were issued at the end of day one.

Some 23 applicants had their cards on Wednesday, at about 0946 hours.

Mr Jerry Tamakloe and Madam Benedicta Akordor, agents of the NPP and NDC respectively told the GNA they were impressed with how the EC officials were discharging their duties.

Madam Perfect Alai, the Registration Officer of the Centre said the machines went off for some time during the process yesterday and that had accounted for the shortfall, but was, however, quick to add that the situation was rectified.

She said non-adherence to the social distancing protocol was one challenge the centre also encountered yesterday as most people were not willing to comply, saying they had already washed their hands and applied sanitizers.

Mr Adu Mensah, the Registration Officer of the Centre told GNA that the rains disrupted the exercise for a short while.

There were Veronica buckets filled with water, tissue papers, liquid soaps and hand sanitizers at all the centres to enable the registration officers and the registrants observe the health safety protocols to stem the spread of the Covid-19.

There was also an infrared thermometer gun at the centres to check temperatures of the registration officers.

  • Flashback: NPP has no tribal agenda – Akufo-Addo

On July 1, 2015, candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated that, contrary to the propaganda being peddled by political opponents of the NPP, there will never be any form of marginalization of any ethnic group in Ghana under his government.

Nana Akufo-Addo who was campaigning for the 2016 elections said all Ghanaians regardless of where they hail from, will have a pride of place in Ghana, as development, and the improvement of living standards for all will be the main focus of his government.

“The NPP is not on any tribal agenda and has no tribal agenda. Every single group will be secure in Ghana. We are One Ghana and I am totally committed to working to ensure peace and unity for the Ghana project,” he said.

He continued, “whether you are a Fante, Ga, Ewe, Akan, Kussasi, Mamprusi, Bimoba or whatever ethnic group you belong to, Ghana belongs to all of us. No ethnic group will be marginalized under Akufo-Addo, and the track record of the NPP in this regard speaks for itself.”

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, has stated that, contrary to the propaganda being peddled by political opponents of the NPP, there will never be any form of marginalisation of any ethnic group in Ghana under a future Akufo-Addo government, should Ghanaians give him the mandate in January 2017.

According to him, all Ghanaians, regardless of where they hail from, will have a pride of place in Ghana, as development, and the improvement of living standards for all will be the main focus of his government.

Receiving a delegation from the Binduri constituency on Monday, June 29, led by the newly elected parliamentary candidate, Abanga Abdullahi, who told the NPP flagbearer about a vicious campaign being waged by opponents of the NPP that Kussasi settlers in the South will be sent to the North when an NPP government under Nana Akufo-Addo takes over in 2016, this is what the NPP flagbearer had to say:

“The NPP is not on any tribal agenda and has no tribal agenda. Every single group will be secure in Ghana. We are One Ghana and I am totally committed to working to ensure peace and unity for the Ghana project,” he said.

He continued, “whether you are a Fante, Ga, Ewe, Akan, Kussasi, Mamprusi, Bimoba or whatever ethnic group you belong to, Ghana belongs to all of us. No ethnic group will be marginalised under Akufo-Addo, and the track record of the NPP in this regard speaks for itself.”

Nana Akufo-Addo recalled the same propaganda being played against the NPP in the run-up to the 2000 elections, when political opponents stated that the NPP, under John Agyekum Kufuor, will marginalise and, in the end, “sack some ethnic groups from Ghana.”

“In the end it was all lies. President Kufuor oversaw one of the biggest transformations of Ghana in all parts of the country. No ethnic group was marginalised and I can assure all Ghanaians that, under an Akufo-Addo government, no ethnic group will be slighted in any way whatsoever,” he added.

Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, Makafui Woanya has described the opposition NDC as hypocrites who have taken the region for granted despite enjoying absolute support of the people for years.

He said the NDC after failing to reciprocate the love and loyalty enjoyed from the Volta region over the years want to reap where they have not sown.

They have therefore resorted to propaganda, tribal bigotry, divisive and violent comments to caught sympathies from the innocent and unsuspecting Voltarians.

Mr. Woanya made the statement in Ho when he adressed a press conference in reaction to claims by the opposition that the governing NPP has failed the people of the Volta region.

The NDC at a press conference last week in Ho addressed by the Regional Communications Officer, Kafui Agbleze scored the NPP government 17 percent as far as fulfillment of their promises in the Volta region are concerned.

He said the Akufo-Addo government has performed woefully as far as the Volta region was concerned, hence needed to be rejected by Voltarians in the upcoming December elections.

However, reacting to the comments, the Volta NPP Chairman, Makafui Woanya said “NDC has no moral right” to accuse the NPP of failed promises because that was disingenuous.

He said if the NDC want to still benefit from the support of the region, they should have taken time to account for at least their 8 years tenure of the Mills/Mahama administration.

He said the Volta Region is wide awake and assertive and will not be hoodwinked by the selective amnesia and biased claims of the NDC anymore.

He said “Volta Region is not a property of the NDC. When has it become compulsory for all in Volta to be NDC?”

He noted that NPP unlike the NDC who abondoned most of their projects in the Volta region is committed to deliver on its promises and ensure the Eastern Corridor road, Ho-Sokode dual carriage road, 3rd phase of Adidome five District water project, Ho Youth Resource Centre, Hohoe Astro turf among others will be completed.

  • NPP is generating more anger by their schemes to suppress votes – Ablakwa

Member of Parliament for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has opined that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) fears of the defeat they will face in the upcoming 2020 polls hence their agenda to have a new register compiled.

The legislator in a post said the NPP has realised Ghanaians are angry and want them out of office and because of that they are afraid.

He was also happy civil society groups, chiefs, health professionals and other individuals supported the call to have the EC rescind the decision to compile a new register.

In a post he shared on his Facebook wall the MP said: “So what the NPP really fears is the anger and deep disappointment of the Ghanaian people and not a so-called discredited voters register.

By scheming to suppress votes and to disenfranchise many more, the NPP is rather generating more anger and incurring the wrath of an already disenchanted people.

To the forces seeking change, instead of feeling down by the setback at the Supreme Court yesterday, we should rather be motivated by the morbid fear of the NPP for the people who have been at the receiving end of their inimical policies.”

    Read his full post below:

Never in the entire history of the world has a political party been so scared to death of the very voters register that brought it to power.

One would have expected that the NPP will act as the apostles of the credibility of the current register so as to uphold their own legitimacy but clearly they are haunted by a far bigger existential threat.

That existential threat emanates from the bad governance, broken promises, unbridled nepotism and massive corruption that has defined this regime.

So what the NPP really fears is the anger and deep disappointment of the Ghanaian people and not a so-called discredited voters register.

By scheming to suppress votes and to disenfranchise many more, the NPP is rather generating more anger and incurring the wrath of an already disenchanted people.

To the forces seeking change, instead of feeling down by the setback at the Supreme Court yesterday, we should rather be motivated by the morbid fear of the NPP for the people who have been at the receiving end of their inimical policies.

We should also be motivated by the impressive number of Ghanaians and groups including chiefs, university lecturers, doctors and other health workers, organized labour, the clergy, CSOs and a host of others who publicly supported and aligned with the compelling case the NDC made.

We should also not be oblivious that there is always a political price to pay for intransigence and treating the masses with contempt.

That price will be in the minds of all those who spoke out and the many appalled silent observers when they risk their lives to register from Tuesday as our Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama has pointed out.

President Akufo-Addo can deploy the full compliment of the Ghana Armed Forces in the Volta Region beyond the current shameful deployment but all that cannot stop a determined people. Perhaps, President Akufo-Addo needs lessons on the fate of Torgbui Agorkoli when the latter attempted to oppress the Ewe people.

The NPP underestimates what it is asking for when it continuously annoys the masses, risks their lives during a pandemic and uses intimidation tactics on voters. Ghanaians love it when you dare them and just when you think your machinations have succeeded. As the Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah succinctly put it: “Ghanaians are not timid people as has been suggested in the foreign press. Far from it. They may be slow to anger & may take time to organise & act. But once they are ready, they strike and strike hard. It pays no one to tamper with Ghanaian freedom & dignity”.

  • NDC lists why Mahama must be President again

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has listed a number of promises it intends to fulfill if its candidate, Mr John Dramani Mahama, is elected President again in the December election.

According to the main opposition party, the 2020 general elections is a referendum on the performance of President Akufo-Addo, who, in their view, “has failed woefully to deliver on his numerous campaign promises to Ghanaians, having fulfilled only 14% of the 631 promises in the 2016 manifesto of the NPP.”

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, 22 June 2020, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, National Communication Officer of the NDC, noted that the comfort and transformation Ghanaians were promised by President Akufo-Addo and the NPP have become a pipe dream.

“Today, cost of living is so high and unbearable for the vast majority of Ghanaians due to the bad governance of President Akufo-Addo,” he stated.

He noted that former President Mahama, if elected President again, shall do the following:

    1. Pay all customers of the collapsed financial institutions whose monies are locked-up in full and restore indigenous Ghanaian participation in the financial sector.

    2. Reduce the size of government by at least forty (40) ministers to reduce government expenditure and channel those resources into the productive sectors of the economy for the benefit of Ghanaians.

    3. Provide free Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) from the second cycle to Tertiary level to build the human resource base of the nation for industrial development, entrepreneurship and job creation.

    4. Institute a National Apprenticeship Program in line with his vision of rapid industrialization and job creation for the country.

    5. Scrap the 50% increment in the Communication Service Tax to reduce the cost of telephoning and data. This will reduce the cost of living and the cost of doing business in the country.

    6. Construct a regional hospital for each of the six (6) newly-created regions and the Western Region to improve access to quality and efficient health care delivery.

    7. Provide districts without hospitals with fully-equipped modern health facilities.

    8. Take healthcare to the doorsteps of the people by building a first of its kind “Onipa Nua” Hospital Ship and deploy it to provide medical services to the inaccessible riverine and fishing communities on the inland Volta water ways.

Additionally, the next Mahama government will rehabilitate the “Onuador” mobile vans that have been abandoned by the Akufo-Addo government and procure more, to provide medical outreach services in underserved and hard to reach areas in all the 16 regions of the country.

    9. Construct two (2) new international-standard Infectious Diseases Centers and two (2) additional international research centers.

    10. Abolish the dreaded double-track system of secondary education through an emergency and massive infrastructure drive. This will ensure a conducive environment and one-track qualitative learning experience for SHS students.

    11. Establish University Campuses in each of the six (6) newly-created regions.

    12. Abolish the mandatory national service and obnoxious licensure exams for teacher trainees and restore the automatic employment of teacher trainee graduates. Let me state unequivocally that no teacher trainee graduate will be denied posting or employment under the next Mahama government.

Additionally, the promotion and welfare of teachers will be prioritised by the next Mahama government.

    13. Restore the automatic employment of Nursing Trainee graduates. Again let me state unequivocally, that no nursing trainee graduate will be denied posting or employment under the next Mahama government.

    14. Restore the distribution of free cocoa fertilizer and chemicals to cocoa farmers to boost cocoa yield and improve the welfare of cocoa farmers.

    15. Complete the Eastern Corridor roads, dualise the Aflao, Cape Coast and Kumasi roads among others.

    16. Complete all abandoned or uncompleted hospital and health projects, educational projects, road projects and other infrastructural projects in the country.

    17. Punish corruption and end the practice of nepotism.

    18. Train, remunerate and empower assembly members to be responsible for the local level registration of births and deaths in their electoral areas, to improve the national population register.

Mr Gyamfi added that the NDC will be outdooring its manifesto for the 2020 general elections in August but even before that, the flag bearer and leader of the NDC will, in the coming days, announce some “big-ticket policies which are central to his transformational vision for this country.”

“This will include a major and comprehensive job creation policy he intends to undertake, to create millions of permanent and dignifying jobs for the teeming unemployed youth when he assumes the reins of power in 2021,” he added.

Son of the Speaker of Parliament, Mike Oquaye Jnr., was mocked after Adwoa Safo was declared the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya constituency.

  • Kweku Baako praises NDC, NPP for not engaging in politics of insults

Seasoned journalist, Kweku Baako has eulogized both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for engaging in intellectual political discourse.

According to Kweku Baako, both parties have done well by not trading insults but resorting to sound criticisms to establish their points on which party deserves to be voted into power.

Mr. Baako was commenting on the NDC score of 14 percent regarding the government’s fulfillment of its campaign promises.

The NDC scored the Akufo-Addo-led administration 14% stressing the government has achieved only 86 out of 631 campaign promises it made to the people of Ghana.

Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa added that the party has even been charitable and that the actual figure is 13.6%.

“We observed that only 86 promises have been delivered out of the 631 and if you do the arithmetic and divide the 86 by the 631, what you will get is 13.6% and so we have been generous to gift them 14%; we added 0.4% to it by rounding the figure up,” he indicated.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, Mr. Baako said the NDC scoring the government isn’t surprising because it is a political trend to find parties challenging themselves in an electioneering year but what he wouldn’t subscribe to is the use of insults.

“We don’t have the luxury of an alternative. Whether we like it or not, December 7th, this country will go for an election. That is five/six months; so if you hear that political parties and politicians are throwing out some of these things, I think it shouldn’t be surprising. It is to be expected and indeed, on one level, I prefer these things to the subculture of outright insults and character assassination and so forth. So, it’s not bad”.

“This sounds a little bit more intellectual. It’s academic. People like us who do research and historians and so forth would have the threat shifted to this level…In principle, in essence, I think it’s not bad. Indeed, if there is anybody who I think has personified this particular trend, I will say Dr. Bawumia is one. His emergence on the political landscape, he comes with that decisive, focused, intellectual, sometimes academic…He’s like a pioneer in it,” he stated.

Adding that their sitting member of Parliament won the 2016 elections with about 47 votes against his contender hence his lackadaisical attitude is not appealing to the constituents there calling for a positive change which could help uplift the image of Tain Constituency high in parliament.

  • Misplaced focus – Baako tells NDC on NPP manifesto promises

The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has said that the opposition NDC have misplaced priorities.

Kweku Baako has asked the largest opposition party in the country to get their priorities right after they claim the ruling government had fulfilled only 14 per cent of its campaign promises.

    14% score charitable

NDC had scored the Akufo-Addo-led administration 14 per cent on the fulfilment of its 2016 campaign promises.

According to them, only 86 out of the 631 campaign promises made by the government have been delivered.

Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says they were even charitable and that the actual figure is 13.6%.

“We observed that only 86 promises have been delivered out of the 631 and if you do the arithmetic and divide the 86 by the 631, what you will get is 13.6% and so we have been generous to gift them 14%; we added 0.4% to it by rounding the figure up,” he indicated.

    Padded figures

Kweku Baako in a discussion on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, said the figures put out by the NDC were padded and deliberate; adding if this is the opposition party’s message five months to an election; they should ‘watch out’.

“What is your target or what did you want to achieve? If this is your message 5 months to an election, watch out . . . what was your goal, what was your target for that exposure? You are a political party, you must have a strategy especially with 5 months to an election…” he stated.

    Fulfilling All Promises Mission Impossible

Kweku Baako also noted that it is impossible for any political party to fulfil all of its electoral promises. He has asked the NDC to do an introspection and ask themselves if they were able to achieve all of its promises.

“No political party has been able to fulfil all promises; there’s none. The NDC should ask themselves if they were able to achieve all their promises in their manifesto? he rhetorically asked.

  • Stop dictating to us – Alhaji Nasiru warns NPP over manifesto

Member of the NDC Communications Team, Alhaji Nasiru Mohammed has cautioned members of the ruling government to stop dictating to them on what to do as a political party.

According to him, it is fair and necessary that as members of the largest opposition party they make Ghanaians aware of how wicked and untruthful the ruling government has been to them in delivering their 2016 manifesto promises.

“Who are members of the NPP to tell us what to do and at what time? We already know what is good for us as a political party,” he said.

As a panelist on UTV’s late news political discussion, the NDC Communicator explained further that “we chose to go into NPP’s unfulfilled manifesto promises at this time, our vision for coming back into power is our own case to settle at the appropriate time”.

Alhaji Nasiru mentioned they are ready each minute as a political party to prove to the ruling government on their strength and how far they have brought this nation under their care.

  • NPP is a ‘manifesto poor party’ – Kwaku Boahen

Deputy National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kweku Boahen, has urged members of the ruling government to be truthful in their 2020 manifesto and not repeat the lies told in the 2016 handbook.

According to him, the NPP government in power had the chance to convince Ghanaians to vote them into power in 2016 but they have failed in delivering the promises they made that led to their victory.

He explained further that the ruling government does not have the skills and zeal to embark on developmental projects like the previous NDC government led by former President John Dramani Mahama did, the reason why they have fulfilled only 86 out of the 631 promises made in their 2016 manifesto.

“NPP is a manifesto poor party, always performing below promises made in their manifesto and needs not to be given a second chance to remain in government,” he said on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ programme.

Kweku Boahen mentioned that the detestable part of this government is how they have destroyed a lot of private businesses but have also increased taxes yet they claim to have promoted the private sector

  • This is what will happen if Akufo-Addo wins the 2020 elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been in power for about 3 year’s now and is said to have performed better than any political party ever to exit in the country but most people don’t accept that. Things to happen when the NPP comes to power are listed below:

    1. Better economy.

The economy of Ghana has been at it’s worse during the regime of the NDC and the NPP coming to power made it better and this has made the president receive awards from international organizations for the great job he has done for the country.

    2. Increase in the standard of living.

The standard of living among Ghanaian’s is low for now this is because of the corrupt practices and acts which has lost the country alot of money and the current government is fighting hard to get them back and this would make 2020 a good year for Ghana. Better economy leads to high standard of living so the country having a better economy would lead to high standard of living.

    3. Better education.

The introduction of free SHS has made the country a better place as most people uneducated youth have all started to go to school, and this has made the number of uneducated youth decrease in the country, most youths who had no access to Education has now and it shall continue.

    4. Better health service.

The outbreak of covid-19 has opened the eyes of Ghanaian politicians to invest into the health sector so this has made president to decide to build hospitals in all districts around the country and this would make the health sector stronger than ever.

    5. High level of employment.

The government of Ghana is training over 60,000 youths to be entrepreneurs and this has lead to the creation of much jobs in the country so as employment.

  • NPP honors party financier in the Bono East region

The New Patriotic Party, through its General Secretary, John Boadu, on Wednesday, June 10, honoured a financier of the party in the Bono East Region, by name, Alhaji Mohammed Adam, for his invaluable support and contribution in financing the activities of the party in the Region.

John Boadu presented an award in the form of a citation to the said financier on behalf of the Bono East Regional Executive Committee led by the Regional Chairman, Thomas Adu Appiah, who described the financier as a great pillar to the Regional Party and the various Constituencies in the Region.

Presenting the citation to the financier, the NPP chief scribe used the occasion to urge members of the party to draw inspiration from commendable feat chalked by Alhaji Mohammed Adam, and not hesitate to sacrifice the little they have for the good of the larger party. The NPP, he noted, was founded on the immense sacrifices and selflessness of individual members of the party, and continues to survive on their sacrifices and selflessness.

On his part, Alhaji Mohammed Adam, said, he was inspired by the exploits of the NPP General Secretary, whom he described as a true patriot and a great source of inspiration for the current generation particularly members and sympathizers of the NPP political tradition. He promised to do even much more to support the activities of the regional party especially as the party gears up for election 2020.

  • NPP lashes NDC for claiming Jean Mensah is a relative of First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo in court

The controversy and feud between the two major Political Party’s in Ghana thus, The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) comes to a successful end today after the National Democratic Congress  withdraws their allegations upon the Electoral commission (EC) today.

All this controversies started after the Electoral Commission Boss, Madam Jean Mensah announced the introduction of the new voters register ahead of the General Elections. This made the opposition party (NDC) to be aggressive and furious after hearing the news with just a barely 6 months to the Elections.

This has caused a massive protest in the country as the opposition party does not understand the exact reason why the Electoral Commission wants to change the current voters register compilation just because the Electoral Commission Boss is an NPP member which seems to be very sensitive for them.

This made the case to end up in court after the NDC started with a strong protest against the initiating of the New Voters Register besides we’re under a Democratic government so they have the power to do what they like only if it is positive and law abiding to avoid any misfortunes.

The COVID-19 pandemic was also the reason why the NDC was against the new voters register due to the queue citizen’s will form before registering.

Meanwhile, today as the final Justification took place in court, The Communication Officer and Lawyer for the NDC showed up with prove that initially tells that Madam Jean Mensah is a relative to First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo as a result of being bias in the upcoming Elections due to his Political team.

This made the NPP representatives at the Supreme Court today to lambast him for allegating wrongly as they claim Jean Mensah is nothing to Rebecca Akuffo Addo and so therefore Sammy Gyamfi should retract that statement.

The New Patriotic Party has withdrawn their case with the Electoral Commission to bury the hatchet ahead of the December General Elections.

  • Major reasons why NPP might lose the 2020 elections.

During the general elections in 2016 in Ghana, the NPP who had been in opposition for 8 years led by Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo won a whooping victory against the NDC party who was then in power.

The results saw the NPP amassing 53.56% of the general votes as against 44.69% of the NDC. This brought a huge difference of almost one million votes.

Ghanaians by then had had a full taste of the NDC government and decided to pull them out for a change of power hence resulting in the huge margin.

With barely six months down the line for Ghana to go to another general election, facts gathered shows that the NPP government who won power in 2016 with a vast margin might not see it being manifested on December 7, 2020, hence capable of losing.

The party which pulled every tom, dick and hurry in seeing their victory are now in a state of disunity in different forms.

The numerous disqualification of parliamentary aspirants for the upcoming primaries has brought a distaste between the National Executive Council (NEC) and that of the aspirants and their supporters.

More chaos has been seen across the length and breadth of the country in slamming against the decision of the NPP NEC to disallow some party faithful from contesting a selected incumbent MPs in different constituencies.

Some delegates and other party supporters, hold the view that NPP NEC is imposing on them and as well curtailing the right of some party members who have the zeal and what it takes to contest in the primaries slated to take off on Saturday, June 20th.

This has gone a long way to ignite the anger of some party members who have vowed not to cast their votes for the ruling party.

Some also through the disqualification of their desired parliamentary aspirant have vandalized and burnt party properties to register their displeasure against the party leaders whom they suspect of a foul play.

In the wake of time, some delegates have also chosen a different dimension to showcase their disapprobation by uttering profanity against their leaders through calling on deities to judge between them and the NPP NEC.

Another reason as to why the NPP government might not maintain their seat in government is their failed unprecedented promises.

NPP who promised to reduce taxes at the country’s port and harbour and other cooperate taxes have not been achieved.

Proper managing of the economy by stabilizing the Ghana cedi against the US dollar has not seen the day of light. Other failed promises are; one village one dam (1V1D), one constituency $1 million, provision of toilet facilities within every village across the country and other related promises that could elevate the burdens of Ghanaians had not been accomplished.

Civilians brutalities by the security personnel without the operation of the full rigorous of the law. Cases of such brutalities is the bye-election that took place at Ayawaso West-Wuogon Constituency. During the bye-election shots were fired by security operatives which injured civilians and others who were been assaulted. Findings from the Emile Short Commission amounted to nothing at the end of the day.

In addition to the above reasons is the fight against illegal mining popularly known as “galamsey”. In the course of the NPP relentless effort to battle the galamsey menace, some party leaders were equally fingered to be propagating the loss of the fight. Missing of ceased excavators came to be an altercation in the country.

Corruption and bribery scandals which have also been on the rise in the NPP government is a major factor that can send them to opposition once again.

Another heartbreaking reason why the NPP might lose 2020 general elections is the case pertaining to the death of the 3 missing Takoradi girls in 2019. The failure of Ghana’s security apparatus in searching and bringing back the girls, sparking with empty promises is a major factor that can pertain to NPP losing the general elections this year.

Last but not least is the growing discrepancy of mistrust in the minds of Ghanaians against the NPP government. Many Ghanaians seem to have lost trust and hope in the Nana Addo led administration, to lead the country to the promised land.

Many Ghanaians who championed the cause for a new change of government are not seeing the reflection and the zeal of the party that were been used to claim power way back in 2016.

Thou, these might be tangible reasons for the party to lose power but the sole decision only lies in the hands of Ghanaians to decide the fate of the NPP party come December 7, 2020.

  • NPP will win 2020 elections with 2million margin – Hon Charles Bissue

A presidential staffer and western regional chairman of Npp , Hon Charles Bissue has said the ruling New Patriotic Party will win this years election with a 2million margin votes.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio the western regional chairman of NPP disclosed that this years election will be perfect win for the ruling party because of the achievements made which happens to unprecedented in the history of amidst coronavirus pandemic.

According to Hon Charles Bissue the ruling New Patriotic party has duely fulfilled greater parts of their promises and have a lot to show to the people that are worthy of another 4 year term.

Anticipation is very high for this years election as preparation are underway for the election commission of Ghana to issue a new voters register which according to the biggest opposition party “National Democratic Party” is a dubious means of defrauding them in this years election.

The need for a new voters register comes to bear when the need for voting comes in mind but it seems the opposition is ready to try all avenues to prevent the Electoral Commissioner from issuing a new voters ID whiles the ruling New Patriotic party is of the view that the new voters register is a key requirement for a free and transparent in this years election.

Amidst all the controversies with respect to the new voters register Hon. Charles Bissue is optimistic that with or without the new voters register NPP will win with a 2million votes margin.

  • NPP members invoked curses to satisfy their displeasure – Anim Piesie blames Akufo-Addo

A Communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has blamed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the master minder behind the disgraceful curse by some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

During a panel discussion on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ show, the NDC Communicator noted that “these are some of the actions a party face during internal elections when the leader of the party selects specific persons he wants to work with. This has been the norm in NPP ever since Akufo-Addo led the party till date”.

He condemned the action but stressed “persons in the NPP who invoked curses on their authorities did that to satisfy their displeasure . . . because it is sad and disheartening when a leader’s decision causes your disqualification, when under normal circumstances it should not be so”.

Anim Piesie called on executives of the NPP to try and solve problems it has with its aspiring parliamentary candidates to bring peace in the upcoming elections.

    NPP directs suspension

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr John Boadu, has directed constituency executives of the party to suspend all persons who claim to have invoked curses on the party leadership on allegations that their preferred candidates were disqualified from contesting the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.

Mr Boadu addressing a press briefing Monday said the party was completely appalled by “such gross misconduct”.

    Juaben Curse

About 300 NPP supporters in the Juaben constituency of the Ashanti Region on June 5, 2020 defied Covid-19 safety protocols to demonstrate against the disqualification of their preferred aspiring parliamentary candidate.

They were protesting what they described as a party decision to allow the MP for the area, Madam Amma Pomaa Boateng to run unopposed in the NPP primaries.

They also slaughtered sheep and invoked curses on any member of the party leadership whose actions would result in the disqualification of their preferred candidate.

    Tano North

Similarly, some party members in the Tano North constituency, where Freda Prempeh was the Member of Parliament also invoked curses on the leadership of the party for allowing Freda Prempeh to re-contest the primaries unopposed.

    Offinso South

In the Offinso South constituency in Ashanti, some disgruntled members of the party last Thursday also invoked curses on persons they said influenced their disqualification of their preferred candidate Dr Yaw Opoku.

Armed with a fowl, a bottle of schnapps and a crate of eggs, the youth numbering about 100, called on all the river gods in the area to deal with any patty official who was invloved in the disqualification.

  • NPP turns to voting-buying ahead of parliamentary polls

Over the weekend, I took my camera from one end to the other. From Accra to Kumasi, from constituency to constituency, looking at how the political arena is looking like.

June 20th, the NPP is scheduled to go polls choosing their parliamentary members who will head the various constituencies for the parliamentary seats. The party through their executives have made their selections.

Ashanti Region made news since their regional chairman, Wontumi was alleged to have made sure, all female incumbent MP’s within various constituencies of the Ashanti Region went unopposed, this caused mayhem, evoking curses from party foot soldiers and polling agents as the leaders cannot imposed their choices over what they the constituencies needed. Sheeps, schnapps, eggs were sent to various water goddess within various communities to invoke curses on the party leaders from top to down.

Stakeholders applauded the executives for choosing their women incumbent MP’s to go unopposed, because parliament is always underrepresented since 1992 when democracy started. Males always turns to dominate at a huge percentage to that of the women, so Ashanti Region was applauded for such move despite protests.

It will be politically sensible if the women going unopposed learn something from what is happening. Do good to your constituencies and don’t assume going unopposed means you did well but a chance for you to cut across and lobby great developmental instruments for the various constituencies, that is what an MP should stand for, not just making laws.

From Achimota to Kumasi, the various constituencies were not darling as I was expecting due to the tension. Fortunately, most aspirants were present at their various constituencies lobbying delegates for their votes. From Thousand to Two Thousand cedis, to flat screen Television to expensive mobile phones and to huge promises, the delegates erected ears and hungry mouth were all wide open for the cash and gifts.

I asked myself if the messages the aspirants were carrying were even convincing. The delegates were much into the gifts rather than their respective messages at expensive hotel meetings. Do delegates have to be this shameful? Does MP’s have to be this insensitive? Asokwa delegates were quick to rain curses, Juabeng constituency wasn’t different so as was Offinso. What is happening in Ghana politics within the NPP is outrageous. The NPP did bounce on the NDC in 2014 for the same phenomenal issues of curses, and 6years down the line, you the party that criticized is doing the same thing of money sharing, votes buying, curses raining?

Asante Akyem Central, North and South was different, the political arena was calm and safe. It seems the three constituencies were the only safe constituency which were able to manage their war without tantrums and earthquakes from Accra to Kumasi.

  • 2020 elections: Independent presidential aspirants promise to end NDC-NPP monopoly

A Coalition of Independent Presidential Aspirants (CIPA) is poised to change history and deliver to Ghanaians better accountability, better citizen-centred management of its economy and resources, and a long-term agenda that secures Ghana’s posterity.

“The mission is to present to Ghanaians a coalition of Ghanaian leaders in their own fields, with global expertise, and let our people know we have the concern and skillset to unseat and replace the entrenched political NDC and NPP parties in the upcoming Presidential Election,” a release issued in Accra said.

Members of the CIPA) are Mr Kofi Koranteng, a Ghanaian investment banker and real estate investor; Mr Samuel Ofori Ampofo, a retired Ghanaian mechanical engineer, farmer and rural banker; Marricke Kofi Gane, an international development expert, lecturer and chartered certified accountant; Mr Carl Ebo Morgan, a businessman, political scientist and project Management consultant; and Onipayde Ossom Teye, a businessman and welder.

“It is our hope that others who share the vision will see the need to join forces with us for the greater good of God and Country,” the team said.

According to the release, the presidential campaigns of the various Independent Aspirants reached a consensus that the best approach to fight for the survival of Ghana and dispose of the NDC and NPP, was to unite behind a single campaign agenda.

“There is a general realisation and acceptance in the nation that Ghana is at the crossroads of a leadership crisis and that Ghana, as we knew it as an independent nation, may not survive under the heavy foreign debt burden, lack of payback plan, and lack of transparency,” it said

It added that “neither of the two major political party leadership cares enough to understand the real needs of the ordinary people.

“They do not seem fully cognizant of the era we are in and about the youth and their struggles for survival. The leadership seems selfish and greedy and unconcerned about the citizens and the need to plan for posterity.

The team of independent presidential aspirants stressed the need to position Ghana to present a better future for generations.

“Each of these aspirants is pledged to consolidating efforts with a unified Presidential candidate, to win the Presidency in 2020.

Their goal in the next few months is to restore Ghana’s dignity in all sectors of the nation, primarily, agriculture to a high level of modernisation, competitive advantage and productivity; attractive farming communities with basic roads and amenities to attract the youth and a pragmatic and superior educational system linked to job creation for our graduates.

They would also pursue public and private financial capital investment in the Youth such as scholarships and student loans; boost-in loans for small and medium scale businesses and come out with first-class Health care that delivers improved life expectancy as in developed countries and environmental sanitation second to none with 99.9 per cent control of the mosquito breeding and malaria in 3 years.

According to the release the team assures Ghanaians of banning open gutters and making underground sewage systems standard throughout Ghana.

It would also reduce the size of Government by 50 per cent or more, cut the colonial allowance systems, and balance the Ghana government budget within three years and deal with corruption in the most cross-cutting, efficient and ruthless manner within the confines of the law.

  • Coronavirus impact on political campaigns: NPP to switch to ‘retail campaign’ – Sammi Awuku

The year 2020 is an electioneering year and as usual of political parties, the season of elections is when campaigns are launched and large rallies are held, but it appears this year will be an exception; particularly when the public gathering restrictions and health protocols to prevent transmissions of the novel Coronavirus are to be observed.

As the economy is adversely affected by Coronavirus, so are political parties and their candidates for this year’s Parliamentary and Presidential elections feeling the pinch of the pandemic.

According to the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku, the current situation has called for candidates contesting the general elections to adopt new and creative ways to reach out to Ghanaian electorates.

Sammi Awuku noted that the traditional way whereby political parties hold large rallies will be dearly missing this year; however, the candidates need to tap into new avenues to send their campaign messages to the masses.

Speaking on Peace FM’s ”Kokrokoo” Friday, the NPP National Organizer disclosed that the NPP has adjusted itself to the current situation, therefore the party’s candidates will be embarking on a ”retail campaign” and not the usual ceremonious campaigns.

He explained the retail campaign mechanism is to see the party move from house to house to personally interact with the electorates and ”sell” their candidates to them.

Sammi Awuku shared nostalgic memories of previous years saying he misses the euphoria that accompanies rallies and the gathering of party members and supporters as well as traders who take advantage of the rallies to do business.

”We will miss the excitement that are accompanied with these elections. We miss it. We miss the large gatherings. We will miss that kind of feeling you get when you meet a brother or sister on the grounds…I’m sure, with all the political parties this year, we’ve been forced to readjust to the new normal and also observe these social and health protocols; and aside that, now, every strategist in a room is trying to find new and creative ways that you can still reach out to the masses of our people. We will miss the 2016 kind of campaign.

”It is true that the NPP is not a fan of flamboyant campaigns and our President doesn’t even want a flamboyant campaign but that ‘feel good’ feeling where you meet a large gathering and people would take turns to make speeches will now diminish. Now, the real test of everyone’s strategy will be what the NPP introduced in 2016 that we called the retail campaign. It nearly looked like the NPP could predict or look into the future more that a time will come that, that will be the best way of campaigning. But retail campaigning is difficult than any form of campaign. Retail campaign is identifying the voter or electorate and visiting the electorate at where the person is. You call it door-to-door”, he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.

  • NPP, NDC have benefited from ‘same fraudulent electoral system’ – Atik Mohammed

People’s National Convention (PNC) General Secretary, Atik Mohammed has supported the call for a new voters’ register by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Contributing to ”Kokrokoo” on Peace FM, Atik Mohammed questioned the logic in the basis of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for rejecting the compilation of a new voters’ register.

Atik Mohammed stated that having a new register will help improve upon the country’s electoral system and ensure transparent elections this year.

He added that the notion that the EC’s decision to compile a new voters’ register exposes the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as a product of a fraud electoral system doesn’t defeat the purpose for a new register for the country’s electoral process.

According to him, both the NPP and NDC have all benefited from the same fraud system but it is prudent to have a new voters’ register that will be long-lasting.

”For me, it makes a lot of sense that someone who profited from a fraud situation wants it corrected. Of course, it’s not just the NPP that profited from this. Even NDC profited from the fraud register. We used the same register in 2012. With all the inadequacies associated with the register, NDC also won the elections with it. So, it is fair. Both of them have profited from this flaw. It’s time to make the best and move on as a country”, he said.

  • Elections or no elections; Ghana should be peaceful – Opanyin Agyekum

The Dean of the School of Performing Arts of the University of Ghana, Legon, Professor Kofi Agyekum, popularly known as Opanyin Agyekum has called on the Electoral Commission and its stakeholders to pre-plan contingency measures for Ghana’s elections.

According to Opanyin Agyekum, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that there is the possibility of the country’s elections being interrupted, thus the framers of the constitution should take a cue from the current situation.

Opanyin Agyekum was commenting on the clash between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the compilation of a new voters’ register and whether or not the elections can be held in spite of the outbreak of the COVID-19.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s ”Kokrokoo”, Opanyin Agyekum called for a consensus among the parties on the issue and advised that there should be peace in the nation whether or not this year’s elections will come off.

”Whether we hold the elections or not, there should be peace…When we finish voting, it should be possible for people to go about their work the following the day and if by chance, we are not able to hold the elections, people should still be able to go work the next day or days ahead. So, this should be our preparations for the six months ahead of us”, he said.

  • NPP could lose 400,000 votes if parliamentary candidates are hand-picked – Ben Epshon

Pollster Ben Ephson is predicting the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will lose not less than 400,000 votes the December 2020 general elections should the party sidestep its primaries and hand-pick parliamentary candidates.

He explained that apathy will set in if parliamentary candidates are picked and imposed on voters especially in their strongholds.

Mr Epshon claimed on the Sunrise morning show on 3FM that the NPP has served notice it will handpick its parliamentary candidates for the elections in view of the coronavirus outbreak which has infected 5,735 people in Ghana and killed 29 others.

Such move, he warned, will spell disaster for the party in the elections if it goes ahead to implement, indicating it will create pain and bitterness among the voters.

“They (NPP) have made the attempt to protect some sitting MPs,” Mr Ephson said.

“That idea, even before COVID-19, surfaced they had been trying to protect some sitting MPs and trying to disqualify others.

“There were statements that in view of COVID-19 they could decide to hand-pick parliamentary candidates for the various constituencies. If they did Nana Akufo-Addo could go into the 2020 elections minus at least 400,000 votes.

“That is if they decide to avoid elections of their primaries,” he stated

When host of the show, Alfred Ocansey, asked him how he arrived at that conclusion, he explained that: “The two main parties have 110 seats which are safe for them.

“The NPP safe seats are quite a bit populated and in 2016 they won on the average of 11,500 to 13,800 in those 110 seats.

“Now, trying to protect the MPs you are going to disenfranchise others. In 2008 that was happened and they paid dearly for it with apathy.

“NDC paid dearly for apathy at the grassroots because the government was distanced from the party.

“Now if even of the 110 seats they decide to handpick, and even 4000 per constituency decides not to go and vote because they know that they have almost won by 11,000, you are talking about 4000 votes per constituency, times 100, that will give you 400,000 votes.”

Meanwhile the general secretary of the NPP, Mr John Boadu said the party is yet to decid whether or not to handpick the candidates for the elections.

  • NPP’s John Boadu threatens boycott of Adom Tv and Multimedia

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party NPP has warned the crew of Adom TV and Multimedia to desist from carrying out false reportage about him.

Speaking on the role of the media in elections, he carried his information through the host of Adom TV’s Nnawotwe Yi Mu program.

“You see,the news the media put across is very sensitive enough to make or break citizens. If not the love I have for you Adom TV I wouldn’t have been on your station again.” He started sharing his feeling on live TV.

” You came to me and interviewed me on measures of the NPP in relation to our impending parliamentary primaries. I told you that the National Executive Council can decide on elections or not. The Power of the National Executive Council remains supreme. For example they have decided not to have primaries at Ayawaso West Wuogon. When you go to the Central Region, the executive council decided not to file any candidate at Komenda Edina Eguafo Constituency. I just highlighted on the powers of the executive council. But you decided to write a headline depicting that the National executive council is going to handpick candidates for the upcoming elections which I never said. If not the love I have for you I wouldn’t be here” His said.

“Thank you for the clarification” said the host of Nnawotwe Yi My show in regards to the information from the General Secretary.
