NPP ‘yields’ to NDC in Majority sitting arrangement

The leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has stated that the NPP will not provide the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) with the “lawless platform” they are seeking.

Speaking to the media while in the Chamber, Afenyo-Markin emphasized, “We will not give them that platform. We will not give them that theatre they so aggressively seek to disrupt democracy and to destroy our nation. We believe the appropriate thing is to quietly yield to them and wait upon Mr. Speaker.”

This declaration follows a unique situation in Parliament where both NDC and NPP Members of Parliament occupied the majority side, leaving the minority section completely vacant.

In a significant move, NPP Caucus Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh, took the Majority Leader’s seat, effectively blocking the NDC Caucus leader from occupying it. In retaliation, the NDC moved the Minority Leader’s black chair to the majority side, allowing their leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to sit alongside them.

Typically, Members of Parliament sit on brown chairs, while the leaders of both the majority and minority occupy black ones. By taking the black chair meant for the Majority Leader, Mr. Annoh Dompreh symbolically claimed the position for the NPP. However, the NDC countered this manoeuvre with their own symbolic gesture by relocating their leader’s chair.

Currently, NPP MPs are making their way out of the chamber, only to return when Speaker Bagbin enters. Meanwhile, NDC MPs are seen chanting and singing in the chamber, reflecting the heightened political tension surrounding the seating arrangement.

As the situation continues to develop, the dynamics between the NPP and NDC in Parliament remain under close scrutiny, with both parties keenly aware of the implications of their actions on the legislative process.

PLAYBACK: NDC MPs sit on Majority side of Parliament

Parliament resumes sitting today as a power struggle unfolds between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over which party holds the majority in the House.

Presently, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament have taken seats on the majority side. Earlier, both NDC and NPP occupied the Majority side, leaving the minority section completely vacant.

However, the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has noted that the sitting arrangement will not be fought over, allowing the NDC MPs to fully take over the Majority seats.

This follows Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant. But the Supreme Court has approved a stay of execution on the Speaker’s directive.

Pro-NPP activist exposed for lying party supporters at Parliament went for health walk

A Pro-NPP activist with an X user account, Gen. Buhari, has been exposed for deceiving the public on the main reason supporters of the New Patriotic Party have been spotted at Parliament.

Accra-based TV3 in a post revealed that supporters of the NPP have been bused to Parliament House in a show of support for their party as tensions rise over the leadership structure in Parliament.

In response, Gen. Buhari wrote, “They only went for a health walk.”

A comment from one of the members of the party on the grounds contradicted this assertion. A male member who engaged the press said, “We are Parliament as at now and we are here to protect NPP, Ghana and our Parliament. So that is all.”

According to reports, over ten Sprinter buses, carrying hundreds of NPP loyalists clad in party apparel, arrived at Parliament. Most of these supporters were from the constituency of NPP Caucus Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh.

The current crisis stems from Speaker Bagbin’s October 17 declaration of four vacant seats—three belonging to the NPP and one to the NDC—shifting the balance of power. With the NDC claiming 136 seats to the NPP’s 135, they declared themselves the majority, sparking confusion and contention over who holds power in the House.

Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling on October 18, which stayed Speaker Bagbin’s decision and allowed the four MPs to continue in their roles until the case is fully resolved, the NDC has refused to relinquish its claim to the majority. They argue that Parliament is independent and should not be subject to the court’s influence.

As Parliament reconvenes today, the standoff remains unresolved, with both sides jostling for control. The arrival of NPP supporters has heightened the anticipation over how this political struggle will unfold.

NPP supporters rush to Parliament ahead of Tuesday sitting

Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have converged at Parliament House, as the tension over the leadership structure intensifies following Speaker Alban Bagbin’s recent declaration regarding vacant parliamentary seats.

Both NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament have now positioned themselves on the majority side, leaving the minority side of the chamber unoccupied.

According to JoyNews reports, over ten Sprinter buses transported hundreds of eager NPP supporters, many of whom donned party-branded clothing and paraphernalia. Most of these supporters were reportedly from the constituency of NPP Caucus Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh.

The leadership crisis was triggered on October 17 when Speaker Bagbin announced that four parliamentary seats—three belonging to the NPP and one to the NDC—were vacant, thereby shifting the balance of power. With the NDC claiming 136 seats against the NPP’s 135, the opposition declared itself the majority, causing chaos in the House as both parties wrestled for control.

On October 18, the Supreme Court intervened, issuing a stay of execution on Speaker Bagbin’s ruling, allowing the four MPs to retain their seats and continue performing their parliamentary duties until the matter is fully resolved. Despite this legal ruling, the NDC remains resolute, insisting that it retains the majority, contending that Parliament is an independent institution beyond the reach of judicial interference.

This impasse has generated uncertainty within the legislative body, with legal experts offering varying interpretations. As Parliament resumes its session, attention is focused on how the situation will be resolved, particularly in light of the large turnout of NPP supporters expressing solidarity with their party leaders.

Both National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament have taken seats on the majority side, leaving the minority section completely vacant.

This follows Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration on October 17 that four parliamentary seats—three NPP and one NDC—were vacant, triggering uncertainty over which party holds the majority in Parliament.

JoyNews’ Parliamentary Correspondent, Kwaku Asante, reports that NPP Caucus Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh, took the Majority Leader’s seat, blocking the NDC Caucus leader from occupying it. In response, the NDC moved the Minority Leader’s black chair to the majority side, allowing their leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to sit alongside them.

Typically, MPs sit on brown chairs, while leaders of the majority and minority occupy black ones. By taking the black chair meant for the Majority Leader, Mr. Annoh Dompreh symbolically claimed the position for the NPP. The NDC, however, countered this move with their own symbolic gesture.

Despite the underlying tensions over the leadership dispute, the atmosphere in Parliament remained unexpectedly calm, with MPs from both sides seen smiling and interacting.

On October 18, the Supreme Court issued a stay of execution on Bagbin’s decision, allowing the four MPs to continue serving until a final court ruling.

Despite this court order, the NDC caucus has held onto their claim of majority status, asserting that Parliament, as an independent body, should not be interfered with by the judiciary.

  • Dr. Arthur Kennedy fears Supreme Court is becoming more political than legal in its rulings

Dr. Arthur Kennedy fears Supreme Court is becoming more political than legal in its rulings

Physician and political activist, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, has expressed concerns regarding the recent performance of the Supreme Court, arguing that its recent rulings have raised doubts about the court’s impartiality.

He cited several examples where he believed the court’s actions appeared politically influenced rather than strictly legal.

His comments came in the wake of the Supreme Court’s recent decision to instruct the Speaker of Parliament to halt his ruling that declared four Members of Parliament (MPs) disqualified for announcing their intention to contest as independent candidates. This intervention was prompted by an application filed by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Dr. Kennedy referenced past cases such as the controversies surrounding former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo, the handling of LGBTQ+ issues, and the current case involving the four MPs, expressing his worry that the court’s actions seem politically motivated in these instances.

He made these remarks during an appearance on Newsfile on Saturday, October 19.

“Because elsewhere in the world, what the judiciary says does not always go, and for Ghana’s judiciary, the Supreme Court, to continue to maintain their standing and the respect that they enjoy, they ought to be mindful of where they are in politics.

“It is strange, for example, that Domelevo’s case took as long as it took. It is strange that the LGBT case brutally truncated the law-making process that has been clearly set out and now brakes have been put on it, and all of a sudden this case, we managed to empanel a group of Supreme Courts, and within a day, a ruling has been made.

“When these things keep happening again and again, there is the perception that our judiciary is biased and too political, as Kan-Dapaah and former President Mahama did say. I fear that sooner or later, we are going to get into the realm where every new government will insist on having its own Supreme Court and its own Electoral Commission because it does not trust the previous one.”

The activist advocated for guardrails on the Supreme Court, insisting that it is too eager to involve itself in political affairs.

He also noted that its decisions always seem to favour one side.

“So my point is that as a nation, we need to make sure that we put in the guardrails. I think that this judiciary, and particularly this Supreme Court, is too eager to stick its nose in political affairs and to stick it in consistently in a manner that seems to favour one side.”

Dr Kennedy believes a comprehensive review of the judicial regime will ensure some sanity and restore public confidence.

“It is dangerous to the stability of our political quality, and I think that this underlines the need for sweeping judicial reforms,” he added.

Full text: Supreme Court temporarily overturns Speaker’s ruling on declaring 4 seats vacant

Supreme Court of Ghana, on October 18, 2024, temporarily suspended a ruling by Speaker Alban Bagbin that had declared four parliamentary seats vacant.

This decision came after an application from New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs challenged the Speaker’s ruling.

The court, led by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, issued a stay of execution, halting the enforcement of Bagbin’s ruling until further legal proceedings take place.

The Speaker’s original decision, based on Article 97(g) and (h) of the 1992 Constitution, claimed that the MPs had vacated their seats by running as independents or for different parties in the upcoming 2024 elections.

The affected MPs were Cynthia Morrison, Kwadjo Asante, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, and Peter Kwakye Ackah. The Supreme Court’s suspension delays any immediate actions until the case is fully resolved.

  • We’ll repeal draconian taxes when NPP MPs boycott Parliament – NDC MP

We’ll repeal draconian taxes when NPP MPs boycott Parliament – NDC MP

Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will move to repeal draconian taxes, including the controversial e-levy, if New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs follow through with their plan to boycott parliamentary proceedings.

This follows an announcement by Effutu MP and leader of government business, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on Thursday, October 17, that NPP MPs would indefinitely boycott all parliamentary activities in protest against Speaker Alban Bagbin’s ruling, which declared four parliamentary seats vacant.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show with Bernard Avle on Friday, October 18, Ayine emphasized that parliamentary business would continue as scheduled, regardless of the NPP’s participation.

“We will sit, and we have more than half the members of Parliament on our side. We will start implementing our manifesto even on Tuesday, so they [the NPP] should stay off and we will go ahead and repeal the e-levy,” Ayine declared. He also pointed out that Article 108 of the Constitution allows private members’ bills to be used to amend or repeal tax laws.

Ayine, a former Deputy Attorney General, underscored that the NDC, with its numerical advantage in the House following the Speaker’s ruling, is now the Majority party, while the NPP has become the Minority. “Majoritarian determination is by numbers and we [NDC] have more numbers than them [NPP] and it is as clear as daylight. We are the Majority and they are the Minority,” he said.

He further asserted that the Speaker’s ruling means the four affected MPs—Cynthia Mamle Morrison (Agona West), Kwadjo Asante (Suhum), Peter Kwakye-Ackah (Amenfi Central), and Andrew Amoako Asiamah (Fomena)—are no longer members of Parliament, and their seats would remain vacant.

In addition, Ayine hinted that should the president refuse to acknowledge such actions from Parliament, it could constitute “high treason,” opening the door for potential impeachment proceedings against him. “The president cannot continue to disrespect certain things, and if he refuses such things, they constitute high treason and we can begin impeachment proceedings against him,” Ayine added.

  • Bagbin’s action undermines the authority of the Supreme Court – Embattled Majority Caucus

Bagbin’s action undermines the authority of the Supreme Court – Embattled Majority Caucus

The embattled Majority caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has fiercely criticised Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare the seats of four Members of Parliament (MPs) vacant.

This ruling followed a motion filed by former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, citing constitutional requirements for MPs who wish to run as independent candidates or change party affiliations.

The MPs affected by this decision are Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kwadjo Asante (Suhum), Andrew Asiamah (Fomena), and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central).

The ruling poses a significant shift in the power dynamics within Parliament, potentially allowing the National Democratic Congress (NDC)-led Minority Caucus to gain a majority over the New Patriotic Party (NPP)-led Majority Caucus.

Currently, the NDC holds 136 seats compared to the NPP’s 135, a shift that could influence important votes and decisions as the country approaches the 2024 general elections.

In a statement released on October 17, the Majority Caucus accused Speaker Bagbin of overstepping his authority by preemptively ruling on this matter, which they argue should be determined by the Supreme Court.

They contend that this decision undermines the principle of separation of powers and infringes on the judicial responsibility of resolving such issues.

The statement described Bagbin’s ruling as a “serious violation” of parliamentary procedure and an example of judicial overreach. The Majority caucus insists that the question of whether these MPs should lose their seats should have been left to the courts rather than being addressed by the Speaker without delay.

This development has escalated political tensions within Parliament, with the Majority caucus indicating its plans to contest the ruling through legal means while also contemplating its wider implications for the legislative process.

“The Speaker’s actions constitute a clear usurpation of powers vested in the Supreme Court of Ghana under Articles 2(1) and 130 of the 1992 Constitution. These provisions explicitly empower the Supreme Court with the authority to interpret and enforce constitutional matters.

“Furthermore, the Speaker’s actions contravene Article 99(1) of the Constitution, which vests the High Court with jurisdiction to determine questions of parliamentary membership validity.

By preemptively ruling on this issue, the Speaker has egregiously undermined the separation of powers that is fundamental to our democracy.”

They expressed concerns about the Speaker’s disregard for the ongoing judicial processes.

“Disregard for Ongoing Judicial Processes: It is particularly troubling that the Speaker proceeded with this ruling despite being fully aware that the matter of the meaning and effect of Article 94(1)(g) was pending before the Supreme Court.

“The Majority Leader had filed a suit against the Speaker of Parliament and the Attorney General on October 15, 2024, seeking constitutional interpretation of the said provision, and formally notified the Speaker of this fact during the parliamentary session on October 16, 2024. Crucially, Parliament was officially served with the writ through its Legal Department on October 16, 2024, a day before the Speaker’s ruling.”

In response to the Speaker’s decision, the Majority staged a walkout and has vowed to boycott Parliament until the matter is decided by the Supreme Court.

Here is the full statement by the Majority:

  • NPP MPs vow to absent themselves from Parliament after losing Majority

NPP MPs vow to absent themselves from Parliament after losing Majority

NPP Members of Parliament have vowed to boycott parliamentary proceedings following a ruling by Speaker Alban Bagbin, which resulted in the loss of their parliamentary majority.

This was communicated by now Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

On Thursday, October 17, Speaker Bagbin declared vacant the seats of four MPs—Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kojo Asante (Suhum), Andrew Asiamah (Fomena), and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central)—after they filed to contest as independent candidates in the upcoming December elections. This ruling, which cited Article 97(1)(g) of the 1992 Constitution, shifted the balance of power in Parliament, granting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) a slim majority with 136 seats over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 135.

In his ruling, Speaker Bagbin explained that if Article 97(1)(g) were only applicable to a future parliament, it would be irrelevant since the MPs in question would have completed their terms. He further emphasized that the decision by former Speaker Prof. Mike Oquaye to expel the Fomena MP in a similar situation was not binding on him or any future Speaker.

With the confirmation from the notice of polls that the four MPs would be running as independent candidates, Bagbin ruled that they no longer had the right to retain their seats in the current parliament, leading to the declaration of the vacancies.

In response, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin filed a legal challenge at the Supreme Court, contesting the Speaker’s ruling. Despite this, Minority Leader Ato Forson praised Speaker Bagbin for “standing firm” in his decision. Ato Forson now assumes the role of Majority Leader, while Afenyo-Markin moves to the Minority side.

Following the ruling, NPP MPs have vowed to abstain from attending parliamentary sessions until the matter is addressed by the Supreme Court.

  • BREAKING: Speaker declares NDC majority in historic ruling, 3 NPP seats now vacant

BREAKING: Speaker declares NDC majority in historic ruling, 3 NPP seats now vacant

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has delivered his ruling on a petition calling for the removal of four sitting Members of Parliament (MPs).

Speaker Bagbin has declared vacant the seats occupied by Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kojo Asante (Suhum), Andrew Asiamah (Fomena), who sided with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central), who run on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2020 elections.

These individuals have filed to contest as independent candidates in the upcoming December elections.

In his ruling, Speaker Alban Bagbin, after extensive reading, emphasized that if Article 97 (1)(g) of the 1992 Constitution were meant to apply only to a future parliament, it would have been redundant, as the MPs in question would have already completed their current parliamentary term.

The Speaker further clarified that the previous instance where former Speaker Prof. Mike Oquaye expelled the Fomena MP from Parliament based on the NPP’s notification of the MP’s decision to go independent, was not binding on him or any other future Speaker.

Bagbin concluded that since the notice of polls had officially confirmed that the four MPs were contesting as independent candidates, they no longer had the right to retain their seats in the current parliament. Consequently, he declared their seats vacant.

Their removal was spearheaded by former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, who invoked Article 97 (1)(g) of the Constitution, which mandates that MPs who contest as independent candidates must vacate their seats.

Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin responded to the matter by filing a legal challenge at the Supreme Court to prevent the Minority’s bid. Afenyo-Markin contested the Speaker’s ruling, however, Ato Forson lauded the Speaker “for standing firm.”

Ato Forson is now the Majority Leader whereas Afenyo-Markin is the Minority Leader. Presently, Andrew Asiamah ceases to be the Second Deputy Speaker in Parliament after losing the Fomena seat.

Prior to the ruling, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) held 137 seats, while the NPP had 138. With the successful motion, the NDC now has a parliamentary majority with 136 seats while the NPP has 135 seats.

Meanwhile, the NPP Members of Parliament have vowed not to step into the chamber until the matter before the Supreme Court is addressed.

2024 elections: I’m sure Ghanaians will keep NPP in power – NAPO

Running mate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has expressed confidence that Ghanaians will vote to keep the NPP in power.

Speaking to chiefs and party supporters in Anum Apapam, located in the Ayensuano constituency of the Eastern Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasised that the NPP’s achievements in areas like Free SHS, electricity stability, school construction, and the Agenda 111 initiative are key reasons why the people of Ayensuano will rally behind the party in the upcoming elections.

He further noted that the Ayensuano constituency is determined to retain the seat for the NPP and continue building on the progress already made.

“The people are resolute without a shred of doubt that the leader Ghana needs in this defining moment is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. They are not only committed to campaigning for him, but they will also vote overwhelmingly in his favour, and through hard work, Ida Adjoa Asiedu is heading to Parliament on the NPP’s ticket.”

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known affectionately as NAPO, believes that beyond the party’s traditional strongholds, the Ayensuano constituency will play a crucial role in securing victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections.

Speaking to chiefs and supporters during his campaign tour in Anum Apapam, Dr. Opoku Prempeh encouraged Ghanaians to carefully compare the track records of the NPP and the opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), before casting their votes on December 7.

He criticised former President John Mahama’s administration, claiming it failed to deliver any significant achievements for the country.

In contrast, he praised the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government for laying a solid foundation for Ghana’s transformation over the past seven and a half years, highlighting the NPP’s success in implementing impactful social intervention policies like Free SHS, the Capitation Grant, and the School Feeding Programme.

Also in attendance at the event was Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, who urged the community to give their full support to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Ida Adwoa Asiedu.

Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has urged the people of Mankessim to vote out the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in the upcoming elections.

He emphasized that the electorate must send a clear message to politicians that they cannot be taken for granted.

Speaking at a stakeholders forum in Mankessim, Dr. Forson warned that the election will shape the destiny of Ghana, which is currently facing severe economic challenges under the NPP.

He blamed the ruling government for economic mismanagement and worsening hardships, arguing that their poor performance should not be rewarded with another term.

Dr. Forson criticized the NPP for excessive borrowing, which has pushed Ghana’s debt to GHS761 billion, with little development to show for it. He also condemned the government for the controversial debt exchange program, accusing them of seizing citizens’ investments and causing financial distress.

Addressing leaders of various communities, traders, and artisans, he called for support for John Dramani Mahama’s vision, assuring that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would introduce transformational policies to assist small businesses and artisans.

Dr. Forson reiterated Mahama’s commitment to building a modern market for Mankessim, similar to the Kotokuraba market in Cape Coast, to boost local commerce.

“Just watch, nothing will happen to them” – Mahama on NPP-NDC Mamobi clash

Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has expressed concern over the culture of impunity surrounding political violence in Ghana, particularly in the aftermath of the recent clash between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC in Mamobi.

The violent confrontation, which took place on Sunday, October 13, left nine people injured, two of whom remain hospitalized while seven have since been treated and discharged. The cause of the clash remains unclear, but eyewitnesses reported that a heated argument between the rival party supporters quickly escalated into violence, resulting in injuries.

Addressing the situation, Mahama criticized the lack of accountability for politically motivated violence, stating that impunity continues to embolden those responsible for such acts.

“It may not have led to the loss of lives, but people had weapons and they fired shots and injured people. The reason this continues is because there is impunity. Those who have the weapons know that nothing will happen to them. They will do it and get away with it,” Mahama said.

He went on to highlight how political connections often shield perpetrators from facing justice, fueling further violence. “Because they are operatives of the system. They are people who belong to the political establishment. I saw one clear picture of one of them holding his pistol. Just watch, nothing will happen to them. And as long as nothing happens to them, it will continue,” Mahama remarked.

In response to the violence, the Ghana Police Service swiftly intervened to restore calm in Mamobi, deploying officers to the area to prevent further clashes. An intelligence-led operation has resulted in the arrest of one individual, while the police continue their manhunt for others involved in the violence.

The disturbances, which escalated tensions in the community, resulted in seven of the injured receiving treatment and being discharged. However, two victims remain hospitalized, with authorities closely monitoring their condition.

No doom prophecy against NPP can thwart own win – Diana Asamoah replies Owusu Bempah

Gospel artist Diana Asamoah has voiced her optimism regarding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) prospects in the upcoming 2024 general elections, despite conflicting prophecies from some religious leaders.

Among these is Rev. Owusu-Bempah, who has forecast a win for NDC candidate John Dramani Mahama.

Drawing inspiration from the biblical story of King Hezekiah, who altered his fate through prayer after being warned of his imminent death by Prophet Isaiah, Asamoah expressed her belief that the NPP could experience a similar turnaround.

While speaking at an NPP campaign event in the Ashanti Region on October 5, 2024, she highlighted the government’s accomplishments, including the Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative, asserting that these successes would play a significant role in securing their victory.

“2 Kings 2:1-7 tells us about how Isaiah prophesied to Hezekiah that he would die. Hezekiah cried out to the Lord to reverse it based on his service to God, and it was reversed; the Lord added 15 more years to his life. So the NPP government, including Akufo-Addo, Bawumia, and NAPO, will not accept defeat based on our good works like the Free SHS. Any doom prophecy against us will not stand; we will win the 2024 general elections,” she declared in Twi.

Her comments follow an incident on October 1, 2024, when Rev. Owusu-Bempah prayed for Mahama during a National Democratic Congress (NDC) meeting with clergy. During the prayer, the prophet asserted that Mahama’s kind nature would attract God’s favor, paving the way for his return to the presidency.

This prophecy has since ignited a wave of mixed reactions on social media, with many users questioning why Owusu-Bempah, who is known for his connections to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), would make such a declaration.

A/R: Fire ravages sheds at Sokoban wood village, seek support from NDC, NPP

Woodworkers at Sokoban Wood Village in the Ashanti Region are feeling devastated and powerless following a recent fire that has severely impacted their livelihoods.

The affected traders have expressed their concerns over the destruction of their primary source of income, leaving them burdened with significant bank loans to repay.

On October 3, 2024, a fire broke out in parts of Sokoban Wood Village, destroying around 18 sheds along with their contents.

Victims of the disaster have reported feeling overwhelmed by the responsibility of repaying the loans they had taken out for their businesses.

DO3 Peter Addai, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service, stated that investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.

“We quickly had to call in other fire tenders for assistance. So together we had about four fire tenders assisting to salvage the situation.

The fire affected 18 shops that deal mainly in plywood and other wood products, and there were no casualties. We were able to salvage 32 shops,” he stated.

Some of the affected victims spoke with Channel One News, highlighting the challenges they are going through because of the incident, and vowed to vote for any political party that will come to their aid.

“I have a lot of dependents. I have children going to school, my wife, my mother. My mother is a widow. I am taking care of a lot of people, so this thing is going to affect me a lot. I can’t tell; I don’t know what is going to happen. I don’t know what to do,” a worker stated.

“This is going to affect the schooling of my children; one is at Legon, one is at KNUST. How will we take care of them? The government should intervene, whether NPP, NDC, or Cheddar. Whichever party wants us to vote for them should come to our aid,” another worker stressed.

Prove yourself else we would come after you– Wontumi to govt appointees over NPP campaign

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, who serves as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a stern warning to government appointees regarding their lack of engagement in the party’s campaign for the upcoming 2024 elections.

He emphasised that any appointee who fails to demonstrate their commitment to the party and the positions they hold will face consequences after the elections.

Wontumi pointed out that even candidates like Kennedy Agyapong, who are running against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, are actively campaigning on the ground.

He insisted that appointees must set aside any complacency and actively participate in efforts to secure the party’s continued governance.

“If you supported Dr. Bawumia during the primaries, you have not done anything. He wants to be president, and that is what you should support him to achieve. Kennedy Agyapong, who contested him, is campaigning and working to ensure that we win.

They have had to prove themselves that they are party members.

In 2016, we won the elections, so if you are an appointee and you don’t prove yourself, we will come after you. Prove yourself.

NPP will stay in power for 16 more years; God has given them 24 years of reign – Apostle Osei Sarfo

Pastor of the Pentecostal Christian Assembly Church, Apostle Dr. Kingsley Osei Sarfo, has proclaimed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is destined to govern for a total of twenty-four years as it completes its first eight years in office.

In an interview with Okay FM’s Kwame Nkrumah Tikese on the Ade Akye Abia show, he shared that he received a revelation suggesting that the NPP has been granted additional years to lead the nation.

His remarks came in response to a recent prophecy by Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah, the founder of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, who stated that God has returned leadership of the country to John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In addressing Owusu-Bempah’s statement, Apostle Kingsley expressed that the prophecy likely emerged from the latter’s dissatisfaction with the NPP.

He said, “The truth of the matter is that the man (Owusu-Bempah) was offended by the NPP when he was arrested. Some people can make decisions out of anger. He is a man of God, and I respect him very much.

I am sure it is because of anger that he made that statement. But the truth is that the God of Heaven and Earth has given Ghana to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rule for 24 good years.

“… I am telling you the truth. I am saying this without mincing words: God has given Ghana to the NPP for 24 good years, and they have ruled for just 8 years, so they have 16 years more to rule. And note that the 16 years are still there, waiting for them.”

When asked if it was a prophecy, revelation, or prediction, he stated that it was both a prophecy and a revelation.

“It is a prophecy and also a revelation. It is two things. I told the NPP in 2016 that… But when the NPP comes into power, they refuse to adhere to advice until the power is taken away from them again.

So, as for his (Owusu-Bempah’s) prophecy, it shall come to pass, but I want to let the NPP know that they shouldn’t disrespect some of us because we do not have cars, big churches, and the like. God uses us even better than those who have all these things. So, they should take us seriously when we say something to them.

“In 2016, God spoke through me to tell them all these things, but after winning power, they rejected me. They don’t even answer your calls when you call them,” he disclosed in Twi.

My English is bad, but it’s my childhood boyfriend’s fault – NPP National Women’s Organiser admits

National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua, has acknowledged her struggle with fluent English. Critics have pointed to this language barrier as a significant drawback, arguing that it hinders her ability to effectively communicate the party’s programs and policies on English-speaking media platforms.

In an interview with Adom FM, Gyamfua attributed her lack of eloquence to her childhood boyfriend, suggesting that he played a role in her language challenges.

“I won’t argue with anyone who says I don’t speak good English. My mother enrolled me in a good school; I attended an experimental school and then to a secondary school, where I got pregnant and came home. When I was young, I had a boyfriend, he attended a local school, and I attended an experimental school, but whenever I spoke English, he made fun of me.

So I was intimidated and decided not to be speaking English anymore to avoid making mistakes. Till now, I hate him for that. I have children; I don’t want to speak English and make mistakes for people to make fun of them.

But the white people I do business with when I speak English, they understand.

“You understand English, but you have decided to work in a Twi station. So everyone decides where he or she will be comfortable. I prefer to speak on Twi stations where I can be more articulate and spread my party’s programmes. If I go to a station where they speak English, my comments will be very limited; I won’t have much to say.

I don’t want any problems, which is why I don’t go to English-speaking media houses. I have told you my story: people can choose to say what they want. Whether I am able to speak English or not, I am happy staying in my house.”

She, however, added that, due to her situation, she has ensured that all her children have quality education.

“I have taken all my children to good schools. None of them will do one master’s degree. The little among them will do two master’s degrees. My first child has four master’s degrees.

My children will do things on my own that I was not able to do. I took all my children to schools abroad fully paid by myself and not sponsored by government scholarship,” Kate Gyamfua proudly stated.

Behead me if Bawumia wins in any Zongo community – NDC Officer

National Communications Director for the Zongo Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Mohammed Naziru Seidu, confidently declared that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will fail to secure any votes from Zongo communities in the upcoming elections.

He emphasised that NDC’s candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama, is poised to dominate in all Zongo areas.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Nyankonton Mu Nsem, Seidu made a bold statement, offering to have his head cut off if Dr. Bawumia wins even a single Zongo community.

Despite being told that such rhetoric was extreme, he stood by his claim, insisting that his head be taken if the Vice President prevails in any Zongo locality.

“But I am telling you before God and man that if Bawumia is able to secure victory in one single Zongo community in Ghana, cut off my head. I repeat, if Bawumia is able to secure victory in one Zongo community in Ghana, cut off my head,” he declared.

He posited that it was obvious that Mahama had been ordained by God to be elected as the next president of Ghana, and his victory would be massive.

He noted that prophets who had earlier prophesied against Mahama’s election win have now come up with a new prophecy, predicting his election as the next president.

Alhaji Mohammed Naziru Seidu lamented that the ruling government, under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo with support from his vice president, has destroyed not only the country’s economy but all state institutions, religion, and our environment with galamsey.

“The President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administrations have not only destroyed our economy.

“They have also destroyed our country with galamsey, and they have destroyed this country through religion. They want to divide this country through religion by making divisive religious comments.

He added, “I know the work we have done and what we are still doing. We know the promises and focus of the Zongo communities.

“We know the challenges they are going through. We know what they have told us, and we know we will convince them to vote for former President John Dramani Mahama. That is why I have said that if Bawumia secures victory in one Zongo community, cut off my head.”

Hohoe residents caned for destroying for destroying NPP posters

A young unidentified man and a resident of Hohoe in the Volta Region has received ten strokes of cane for destroying campaign posters of John-Peter Amewu, Hohoe Constituency New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate.

Jonas-Kwofi Worlanyo, Vice Chairman, Gbi-Bla House of Justice, a voluntary group for the parliamentary candidate,, told GNA that they had recorded a high increase in the destruction of posters of the candidate.

In Ghana, it is an electoral offence to destroy, remove, or disfigure campaign materials of other candidates or parties, which is unlawful and frowned upon by the electoral code.

These offences are punishable by law either through a fine, a prison term, or, to some extent, both.

Former Ashanti Regional Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Kwakwa, and two others are on the mend after being involved in a serious accident on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

The accident occurred while they were returning from a campaign tour in the Asante Akim South Constituency of the Ashanti Region.

Kwakwa was part of a convoy that included NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, and other party members, though they were travelling in separate vehicles.

According to George Opoku Amponsah, Chairman Wontumi’s aide, the crash took place near the Bomfa junction when Kwakwa’s vehicle attempted to overtake an articulated truck.

The risky manoeuvre resulted in the accident, leaving Kwakwa and his passengers injured.

The injured trio were promptly taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.

After receiving medical care, they were discharged, with all three reportedly in stable condition and on the path to recovery.

  • Owusu-Bempah’s prophecy over Mahama born out of anger and not from God – NPP’s Kate Gyamfuah

Owusu-Bempah’s prophecy over Mahama born out of anger and not from God – NPP’s Kate Gyamfuah

National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfuah, has dismissed a recent prophecy by Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, founder of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, regarding the 2024 presidential election.

She claimed that Rev. Owusu-Bempah’s declaration, which identified John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, as the divinely chosen winner of the election, was driven by personal anger rather than genuine divine revelation. Gyamfuah believes the prophecy did not come from God.

“I know him; I know the pain, the prayers, and the fasting he has taken us through. He has worked a lot for the NPP, so he is not happy with what happened, as well as some people going on radio to attack him.

So, I firmly believe that it was anger; it was an anger-induced prophecy and not a prophecy from within him or having been told by God.

I won’t disrespect him, but that is what my soul tells me,” she stated during an interview on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

Rev. Owusu-Bempah, who used to be a staunch supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), gave his prophecy during Mahama’s fellowship with the clergy, which was held on October 1, 2024, at DE ICON Event Centre, East Legon.

“When the prayer was going on, this is what the Lord has told me. Because of the good heart of this man, the Lord has entrusted the country in his hands again. Nothing can stop it,” he stated.

But according to Kate Gyamfuah, Rev. Owusu-Bempah’s proclamation is motivated by anger and pain and is therefore subject to bias.

“From here, I am going to look for him and tell him to let bygones be bygones…” she stated.

NPP MP accuses NDC of importing foreigners to engage in galamsey

Dr. Ayew Afriyie, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating the importation of foreign nationals to engage in illegal mining, known as galamsey.

According to the MP, this illegal activity has significantly contributed to the pollution of Ghana’s water bodies and is a politically motivated scheme designed to undermine the NPP’s popularity ahead of the 2024 elections.

Speaking at the launch of the Bawumia Volunteers 2024 (B24) campaign in Kumasi, Dr. Afriyie alleged that the NDC’s deliberate introduction of foreign miners into Ghana’s forests and rivers was aimed at creating environmental destruction, ultimately forcing the government to halt galamsey, a move he suggested could hurt the NPP’s standing in mining constituencies.

“The NDC saw that we [NPP] were winning the seats in the mining areas, so they decided to go and import foreigners to engage in illegal mining on our water bodies,” Dr. Afriyie claimed. “The whole water bodies have not been a problem until now, it just started one month ago. It is someone behind that to force the NPP government to stop galamsey so that we will lose the seats.”

The MP further criticized calls for an immediate ban on galamsey, asserting that the NPP government has no plans to do so in the near future. He argued that banning illegal mining at this point could jeopardize the party’s hold on parliamentary seats in mining areas.

“We won’t stop them [galamseyers] today or tomorrow,” Dr. Afriyie emphasized, maintaining that the country’s water bodies were clean until foreign miners allegedly brought in by the NDC began to degrade these essential resources.

He also expressed frustration with the media’s coverage of galamsey, suggesting that the NDC was using journalists to pressure the government into banning the practice.

“Then they take their journalists to talk about it. Is galamsey done in Accra? They should come to Kumasi to demonstrate against galamsey; like they will see,” he said.

Manhyia won’t vote for NPP because of NAPO – Otumfuo

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has clarified that the nomination of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice-presidential candidate does not guarantee the Manhyia Palace’s support for the NPP in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh, a nephew of the Ashanti Monarch, was recently selected as the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the general elections. While offering advice to NAPO following his nomination, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II encouraged him not to disappoint Dr. Bawumia and shared valuable guidance for his new role.

However, the Asantehene made it clear that despite the familial connection, it does not influence the political preferences of the palace or its staff.

“Even though Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) is my nephew, it does not imply that people in the Manhyia Palace will vote for the NPP or NDC,” Otumfuo affirmed, reiterating his commitment to remaining neutral ahead of the elections.

During a courtesy visit from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Otumfuo emphasized his impartial stance, stating that individuals at Manhyia are free to vote for whichever party they choose, be it the NPP or the NDC.

Ghana’s current challenges are a testament to God’s prophecy – NPP PC

The parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Trobu constituency, Gloria Owusu, shared her insights on the economic hardships affecting Ghana and its citizens.

During an interview on Adom FM on September 26, 2024, she attributed the current difficulties to divine intervention, claiming they are part of God’s plan.

She referenced biblical prophecies that foretold such extreme hardships in the end times, emphasizing that these events are destined and cannot be altered by human efforts.

Mr Owusu also drew parallels with the situations in the United Kingdom and Nigeria, highlighting that Ghana is not alone in facing these challenges.

“No one can change what God has written. The hardships we are experiencing are not limited to Ghana but are felt all over the world. God’s word states that there will be hardships in the end times. When I went to deliver my child in the United Kingdom (UK), I visited a shop where I usually buy baby food. I typically purchase 20 boxes, but recently I was told I could only buy 2 tins because times are tough in the UK. However, in Ghana, despite the hardships, as long as you have your money, you can purchase any quantity you wish.

“In Nigeria, an oil refinery was recently opened by Aliko Dangote, but fuel is still scarce. The hardship is everywhere, not just in Ghana alone. Germany, America are all suffering,” she noted.

Gloria Owusu further noted that President Akufo-Addo’s administration has faced significant challenges, citing pandemics and disasters that have adversely affected the nation. She emphasized that these unfortunate events have compounded the hardships currently experienced by Ghanaians.

“Nana Addo’s government is the only government that has been unfortunate to have been met with disasters like the Ukraine-Russia War and COVID-19,” she stressed.

No Democracy Hub prostestor has come out to say she is pregnant – NPP’s Jennifer Queen

Deputy Communications Director for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jennifer Queen, has denied claims by the Women’s Wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that a pregnant woman was among those arrested during the Democracy Hub demonstration near the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

In an interview with Asaase Radio on Thursday, September 26, Jennifer Queen asserted that there was no evidence to support the NDC‘s allegation that any of the arrested individuals were pregnant at the time of their detention.

According to her, neither the accused individuals nor their legal representatives informed the police or the court of any pregnancy.

“The lady is not showing any physical signs of pregnancy; she did not inform any of the police officers that she was pregnant. When she got to court, she did not inform the court that she was pregnant, so there’s no evidence as claimed by the NDC,” Jennifer Queen said.

She further explained that even during the court proceedings, the lawyer representing the accused did not mention any pregnancy while applying for bail. “If she did not inform the police or court, nor did her lawyer inform the police or court, and she was not showing any physical signs, how was anyone supposed to know about it?” she added.

In addition, the Ghana Police Service has also refuted reports circulating in some media outlets, suggesting that they denied medical care to some arrested protesters who complained of ill health.

“The Police would like to inform the public that at no point in time have the Police denied these suspects any medical attention,” the police stated in a release on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

Change if you made ‘NPP friends’ suffer after your appointment – NEIP Boss to politicians

The CEO of the National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has urged government officials and prominent members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reconcile with allies from the party’s opposition days.

Mr. Ofosu Nkansah pointed out a growing divide between the NPP leadership and some party faithful, which has led to discontent among members.

He stated, “Dear NPP Appointee/NPP person who gets Gov’t opportunities, that circle of friends you belonged to and did NPP Politics with when we were in opposition, did you maintain your relationship with them when you got your position or opportunities?”

Ofosu Nkansah added, “Some of you are too selfish and you make Party People struggle because of how you have done your Politics when we got Power. If you are like that, it’s not too late to change.”

He called for concerted efforts from NPP leaders to bridge this gap, emphasizing that internal unity is essential for mounting a strong and effective campaign ahead of the 2024 elections.

The CEO noted, “Unity within the party is not only crucial for electoral success but also for creating a cohesive team of members who can work together to champion the party’s vision.”

Mr. Ofosu Nkansah reassured party members that it is not too late for NPP bigwigs and government officials to reconcile with those who feel alienated.

NPP had to be silent else it would affect us in the elections – Wontumi’s aide over Asamoah Gyan’s exit

Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a journalist and assistant to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Boasiako, aka Chairman Wontumi, has expressed concerns that Asamoah Gyan’s resignation from the party may be a significant factor that could jeopardise the NPP’s chances in the 2024 elections.

Asiedu, deeply saddened by Gyan’s departure, suspects there may be underlying issues within the party that led to the former football star’s exit. He mentioned that Gyan had previously shown remarkable dedication and passion, making his withdrawal from the campaign a surprising move.

Asiedu also cautioned that unless internal matters are resolved, the NPP may find itself in opposition after the next election.

“I feel within me that someone has done something bad to Asamoah Gyan. The energy and passion with which Asamoah Gyan embraced his position as a member of the youth and sports committee of the manifesto, there is no way he would have resigned if he had not been treated badly. No one is talking about it because we think when we do that, it will cost us the elections,” he said.

Oheneba Asiedu cautioned appointees of the government not to live under the impression that they will be protected by their friends in the NDC should power get into their hands.

“The party is the one that is going to suffer from these actions. They are making the elections difficult for us. There are people in this government who think they have made a lot of friends in the NDC, so should we lose to them and the NDC comes to power, they will be protected. I want to tell them that if the NDC comes to power, it wouldn’t take more than one week for them to regret their actions,” he said.

In an announcement shared on his social media platforms on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Asamoah Gyan revealed that moving forward, he will focus on his role as a former footballer and philanthropist.

Although Gyan did not specify the reasons behind this decision, he assured his followers that he remains dedicated to the growth and empowerment of Ghana’s youth. He pledged to continue spearheading initiatives aimed at their development.

“I haven’t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. Henceforth, I am not affiliated with any political party. I will continue with my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own small way. Nothing political. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election on the 7th of December. God bless our homeland Ghana. Thank you,” the caption of the statement reads.

You are to blame for not winning NPP presidential primaries – NEIP CEO to Alan

Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has called on Alan Kyerematen to take full responsibility for his failure to secure victory in the recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

According to Mr Nkansah, Mr Kyerematen’s defeat should not be attributed to any alleged “systemic mafia” within the party, but rather to his own campaign shortcomings.

This follows Kyerematen’s earlier comments, in which he hinted at a possible internal conspiracy that sabotaged his chances of becoming the NPP’s flagbearer.

Alan Kyerematen, a presidential aspirant for the 2024 general elections

In a Facebook post, Nkansah emphasised that the NPP primaries were conducted fairly, giving every candidate an equal opportunity to win the support of delegates. He argued that Kyerematen’s inability to build a strong grassroots base and connect with party members was a key reason for his loss.

“Dear Chief Alan, you have yourself to blame for not becoming the next NPP flagbearer after Prez Akufo-Addo because of how you did your internal Politics, not because of any systemic mafia or bad register. If system support resulted in automatic win, you would have won the NPP 2007 primaries,” Nkansah posted.

Nkansah further criticised Kyerematen for attributing his defeat to external factors, urging him to reflect on his own campaign strategy.

He pointed out that other candidates managed to engage with delegates more effectively, which led to their stronger performance in the polls. Instead of shifting the blame to non-existent forces, Nkansah advised Kyerematen to focus on introspection.

Democracy Hub has responded to the Ghana Police Service’s recent press release concerning their ongoing protest, strongly rejecting the claims made by the police.

The group refuted the description of their protest as “unGhanaian, uncivil, and unlawful,” arguing that their actions are in full accordance with their constitutional right to peaceful assembly.

In their statement, Democracy Hub expressed concern over the contradiction in the police’s stance, noting that while the authorities claim to protect public safety, they have allegedly resorted to using excessive force and intimidation against peaceful demonstrators.

The organisers denied any involvement in violence or illegal activities, emphasising that protestors were repeatedly reminded to maintain a non-violent stance throughout the demonstration.

Additionally, they accused the police of working with New Patriotic Party (NPP)-aligned groups to intimidate protestors, calling for accountability over these alleged actions.

Democracy Hub called for meaningful dialogue with the police while reaffirming their dedication to peaceful protests and urged Ghanaians to join their cause for justice.

New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has emphasised the crucial impact that students have on the future of Ghana.

Speaking at the 58th National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Annual Residential Congress with the theme “Depoliticising Education and Upholding Integrity:

The Role of Students and Stakeholders for National Development,” Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, emphasised that NUGS leadership should prioritise serving members over personal or partisan interests.

“NUGS should not be used for personal gain or advancing personal or partisan goals,” he stated.

As a former president of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) at KNUST, he commended the organisation’s longstanding engagement in national matters.

He urged students to offer thoughtful critiques of government policies while backing initiatives that bring about positive change.

The former Minister of Education also emphasised the importance of student involvement in the upcoming 2024 general elections, noting how the results will influence their future.

“I firmly believe that under a Dr. Bawumia presidency, the NPP offers the students of this country the best opportunities to achieve their full potential in the 21st century.”

Additionally, the Manhyia South MP urged NUGS leaders to promote critical thinking and engagement among Gen Z voters, ensuring their voices are heard and helping shape the country’s future direction.

8th on the ballot is an end to NPP’s dark years of governance – NDC

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed contentment with securing the 8th position on the ballot for the 2024 presidential elections.

The party views the number as a turning point, representing the end of what they call eight years of mismanagement and corruption by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to the media on Friday, September 20, after the ballot draw, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey remarked that the position symbolises a critical moment for the NDC to step in and resolve the economic and governance challenges created during the NPP’s time in office.

“We came here asking for God’s perfect will to be done, and we accept the number eight.

After eight critical years of decay, after eight years of total lack of order, corruption, and darkness that have engulfed this country, I think the eight is quite significant to tell the country that this is the moment to stop the decay after the eight years,” he said.

The NDC General Secretary also expressed satisfaction that the public witnessed the NPP’s disregard for the initial balloting agreement and did what they liked.

“The country clearly will not allow those who are doing everything possible to do what is wrong and those who are doing what is right for the sake of Ghana,” Mr Kwetey said.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has secured the top spot on the ballot paper, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold the 8th position.

This arrangement was determined during the balloting process at the Electoral Commission’s office in Accra.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) has secured a favourable position in the Electoral Commission’s (EC) balloting for the upcoming December 7, presidential elections.

Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of Elections, picked the party’s number during the EC’s balloting event held in Accra on Friday. The NPP will be featured in a prominent position on the ballot paper.

The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), drew the 8th position, while the All People’s Congress (APC) candidate, Hassan Abdulai Ayariga, secured the 9th spot.

Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) picked number 5, and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) drew the 7th position.

Following the Electoral Commission’s (EC) balloting process on September 20, 2024, independent candidates were also assigned their positions on the ballot paper for the upcoming December 7, 2024, presidential election.

Independent candidate Kofi Koranteng has secured the 10th spot on the ballot for the December 7, 2024, presidential election, while George Twum Barima will take the 11th position.

The New Force Movement, led by Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar), claimed the 12th spot, and the Movement for Change will appear last at number 13.

These independent contenders will compete against nine established political parties in what promises to be a competitive election as they all vie for the presidency.

Earlier, Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa revealed that several presidential hopefuls were disqualified from the race due to their failure to rectify errors in their nomination documents. Despite being given sufficient time, these aspirants could not meet the required standards.

Among the disqualified candidates are Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP).

NPP threatens protest if EC accepts NDC’s call for a voters’ register audit – Justin Koduah

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua, has announced that the party will stage its own protests if the Electoral Commission (EC) permits an independent forensic audit of the 2024 provisional voters’ register, as requested by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) page on Thursday, September 19, 2024, Kodua wrote, “If the EC accepts the position of the NDC, the NPP will also hit the streets.”

This follows a nationwide demonstration by the NDC on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, under the banner of the ‘Enough is Enough Demo.’

The protest was aimed at pressuring the EC to audit the provisional voters’ register ahead of the December 2024 elections.

The NDC claims that the current register is riddled with irregularities and cannot ensure a free and fair election, a position the EC has refuted.

“The irregularities in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) are not minor oversights or clerical errors; they indicate a deliberate manipulation of the voter database.

“These irregularities pose a significant and immediate threat to the credibility of the 2024 General Elections.

We demand that the Commission takes swift action to preserve the integrity of Ghana’s democratic process and ensure the stability and security of the nation,” the NDC stated in its petition.

The NDC said it has found more than 243,000 unauthorised voter transfers and that the transfers were made without the

knowledge and consent of the affected voters and therefore raised significant questions about who approved them and what role EC officials may have played in facilitating such changes.

Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has pledged to take firm action against Chinese businesses operating in Ghana’s retail sector should the New Patriotic Party (NPP) secure victory in the upcoming December 2024 elections.

He made this statement while rallying support for NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during a campaign event on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

Agyapong’s promise is a response to the increasing concerns raised by local traders about foreign influence in the Ghanaian market. Many local businesses have struggled to compete with foreign retailers, particularly Chinese-owned businesses, leading to frustration within the local trading community.

The Assin Central MP expressed his commitment to enforcing the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Act, which reserves the retail sector for Ghanaians.

“What the Chinese are expected to do is wholesaling and not engage in the commercial or retail market. We won’t allow them to do it,” Agyapong stated.

Agyapong urged market women and local traders to vote for Bawumia, promising that the NPP would protect local businesses and improve their livelihoods.

He emphasised that Chinese nationals would be restricted to wholesale operations only, with retail remaining exclusively for Ghanaians.

He also advised Dr. Bawumia’s running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, against opposing his stance in the future should the NPP win power in the December 2024 elections.

“And as I have said before, I will walk my talk, so Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh will be courageous because once I do it, the media will misreport my deeds and cause panic amongst the NPP. We have to empower our own citizens,” he added.

The NPP has outlined several policies to support local businesses if it wins the 2024 elections. Dr. Bawumia has proposed the establishment of an SME Bank to provide targeted financial support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which employ over 80% of Ghanaians.

Other proposals include a flat-rate tax system to simplify taxation for all income levels and create a business-friendly environment aimed at fostering economic growth.

NPP threatens to drag EC to court over forensic audit of voter register

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is considering filing a lawsuit against the Electoral Commission (EC) should it decide to audit the 2024 voter register as requested by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Per reports, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye made such information known during a media engagement.

The NDC embarked on a nationwide protest, held on September 17 and titled “Enough is Enough,” to compel the EC to audit the 2024 voter register after concerns over discrepancies in the provisional voters’ register, which they uncovered after receiving it from the EC.

The party has given the Electoral Commission a week to review their petition and respond. Should the EC not comply, the NDC plans to escalate their efforts to ensure their request for an audit is met.

Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah, has urged the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, to address concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding discrepancies in the voters’ register.

NPP to lose votes in Ashanti, NDC win in 11 regions – Latest survey reveals

A recent survey conducted by SBM Intelligence forecasts that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is likely to secure victories in 11 regions during the 2024 elections.

The survey indicates that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may see a reduction in support within its traditional stronghold, the Ashanti Region, where their projected vote share is expected to drop.

The report, titled ‘Ghana’s 2024 Elections: A Preview,’ is accurate as of Thursday, September 12, 2024.

The NPP is anticipated to receive approximately 70.5% of the votes in Ashanti, a decrease from the 72.8% it achieved in the 2020 presidential election.

Additionally, the survey suggests that the NPP will encounter significant competition from the NDC in the Northern, Western North, and Oti regions.

“In the elections, the NDC is projected to secure victory in 11 regions, including all three swing regions, leaving only five regions for the NPP,” the September 2024 report showed.

More so, the NDC is expected to easily maintain three out of the five regions,, namely the the Upper East, Upper West, and and Savannah, and battle the NPP for the Northern region.”

“In the North East, Bawumia’s candidature is expected to help the NPP maintain its win and improve its vote share from 51.40% to 55.8%.”

The report comes with barely 80 days left for the December 7 election as political parties intensify campaigns to solicit for votes.

Meanwhile, over 20 presidential aspirants have successfully submitted their nomination forms to the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest the election.

Video: Mahama condemns chiefs, pastors, imams, others for supporting NPP

Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has publicly condemned Ghanaian chiefs, pastors, imams, traditional leaders, and various civil society groups for endorsing the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a video posted on social media, the former President criticized these leaders during a campaign stop at Alogblogshie Anglican Church in Accra. Mahama expressed his belief that instead of praising Bawumia, these leaders should have criticized him for what Mahama describes as the NPP’s poor governance.

“Pastors, imams, chiefs, and civil society organizations exist in this nation, and they support the NPP rather than criticizing it. It seems as though we are the evil guys when NDC says something. Instead, they should band together with us to inform the government that it’s time for you to leave because of your immorality toward Ghanaians. However, you’ll see Chiefs praising NPP for their excellent work.

“Pastors are seen praying for Bawumia in the churches, saying things like, ‘We bless you and may God give you victory,’ and ‘the government has done a good job.’ He approaches the traditionalists, and they ask their ancestors to lead him (Bawumia) and pour wine into their shrines,” the former President said.

NPP, NDC supporters clash during DRIP equipment launch at Gomoa West

On Monday morning, September 16, 2024 a heated confrontation erupted between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.

The clash centered around the commissioning of machinery for the District Road Infrastructure Project (DRIP).

The conflict ignited when NDC supporters raised objections to the display of images featuring Bismark Basie Nkum, the NPP’s Gomoa West parliamentary candidate, on the DRIP machinery.

Their dissatisfaction quickly escalated, almost leading to physical violence between the two factions.

Baisie Nkum who is also the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa West, accused Member of Parliament Richard Gyan Mensah of brandishing a pistol and making threats against local NPP leaders.

A viral video on social media captures the tense moment, showing the DCE’s allegations of the MP’s aggressive behavior toward NPP supporters during the altercation.

No Mahama, no presidential debate – Miracles Aboagye

Spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 presidential campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has announced that the Vice President will only participate in the upcoming presidential debate organized by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) if his main rival, former President John Dramani Mahama, is also present.

The IEA has scheduled two presidential debates ahead of the 2024 general elections, set for October 22 and November 19.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Mr Aboagye emphasized that while Dr. Bawumia is ready to engage in debates on national issues, he believes Mahama’s participation is essential for a comprehensive discussion.

“Dr. Bawumia is eager to participate, but there is no debate if Mahama is absent. The December polls will be a contest between Dr. Bawumia and Mahama, and both must engage to provide voters with a balanced discourse,” Aboagye stated.

The IEA outlined its debate schedule in a statement, detailing two presidential debates, one vice-presidential debate, and five evening encounters with the candidates ahead of the December 7 elections.

The vice-presidential debate is slated for November 5, while the evening encounters will kick off on Wednesday, September 18, with the last one scheduled for October 15.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, have expressed a preference to focus their campaign efforts on engaging with the electorate.

The NDC has argued that its resources are better spent promoting its policies to voters rather than participating in debates with the ruling party’s candidate, who, they claim, has failed to deliver on economic promises.

As the date for the first debate approaches, the participation of key contenders remains uncertain, with Dr. Bawumia’s involvement hinging on Mahama’s presence. The outcome of these deliberations will determine the structure of the debates as Ghana heads towards a critical election.

  • Re-electing Mahama will lead Ghana to ruin – Salam Mustapha

Re-electing Mahama will lead Ghana to ruin – Salam Mustapha

The Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has warned that the re-election of John Mahama and his running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, would spell disaster for Ghana.

In a press conference held in the Upper East Region, Salam Mustapha, the NPP National Youth Organiser, criticized Mahama and Prof. Opoku-Agyeman for their previous policies, which he claims were detrimental to the youth.

He pointed to the cancellation of the teacher trainee allowance as a prime example of their poor governance.

Mustapha also noted that Mahama’s defeats in the 2016 and subsequent elections reflect a widespread rejection of his leadership by Ghanaians.

“Ask yourselves, from Kwame Nkrumah to Akufo-Addo, how come John Dramani Mahama was the only leader in our nation’s history who was rejected by Ghanaian voters when he went for re-election? Indeed, ask yourself how come he has been rejected twice since Ghanaians tasted him both as a vice president and as president?,”’ Salam Mustapha queried Ghanaian youth during the press conference.

He noted that, despite having substantial resources, Mahama’s administration led the country into issues such as dumsor (power outages).

“He inherited an oil-rich economy and without any global crisis to deal with he created his own crisis…Schools did not even have common chalk! The situation was hopeless. The leader himself was rudderless and inept.

“We witnessed his shambolic performance as president which saw your parents losing their jobs or customers because of dumsor. Yes, four years of President John Mahama was four years of dumsor,” Mustapha stated.

The NPP Youth Organiser also criticized the NDC running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman.

“It wasn’t John Mahama alone that was hopeless in office, but his running mate too. Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang was equally if not more inept…Madam Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang supervised the monstrous heart-breaking 3-month pay policy, where teachers worked for 3 years and only got paid 3 months.

“This was how mean she was. She supervised the cancellation of the teacher training allowance, forced universities to pay their own utilities, and could not provide common chalk for basic schools,” Mustapha said.

He cautioned Ghanaian youth against voting for Mahama and Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, arguing that, according to him, their return to power would be detrimental to the country’s future, the “duo portend doom for our country and gloom for the youth who we should be preparing for the fourth industrial revolution.”

NPP confirms former independent candidate Amoako Asiamah as Fomena Parliamentary candidate

New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially selected Andrew Amoako Asiamah, the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, as their 2024 parliamentary candidate for Fomena.

This endorsement came during a National Executive Council meeting, where the decision received unanimous support.

The NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, better known as Chairman Wontumi, conveyed the party’s enthusiasm over Asiamah’s endorsement to the constituency’s leadership on Thursday.

Chairman Wontumi highlighted the significant support Asiamah has provided the party, noting his current role as the independent MP for Fomena.

Expressing confidence in Asiamah’s candidature, Chairman Wontumi emphasised that his return to the NPP fold signals a promising future for the Fomena constituency.

He commended Asiamah for his unwavering dedication and the positive impact he has had on the party’s image in Parliament.

According to Chairman Wontumi, Asiamah’s candidature is more than just a routine move; it represents a strong step towards victory for both the constituency and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In response, the 2nd Deputy Speaker, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, expressed deep emotion, sharing how much he had missed everything about the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a party he has always held dear to his heart.

With renewed enthusiasm, Asiamah pledged his full commitment to leading the party to a historic landslide victory, not only for himself but also for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the Fomena constituency.

Asiamah urged party members and supporters to set aside any past grievances and come together to work for the greater good of the NPP.

He emphasized that unity and focus were crucial at this time. What truly mattered, he noted, was for leaders in the constituency, especially Assembly members, to actively campaign on the many ongoing projects in Fomena.

By showcasing these developments, he believed they could attract more votes and strengthen the party’s position in the upcoming elections.

The NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), accompanied Asiamah on a visit to several communities within the Fomena constituency, including Adokwai, Dompoase, and Old Edubiase.

During these visits, they engaged with local residents, urging them to continue supporting the NPP as the December 7 elections approached, highlighting the importance of retaining the party in power for the benefit of the entire region.

  • NPP’s remedy to our problems is criminal visa racketeering to ship the youth out of hell – Ablakwa

NPP’s remedy to our problems is criminal visa racketeering to ship the youth out of hell – Ablakwa

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has issued strong condemnation of Pius Hadzide, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Asuogyaman, following controversial statements made by Hadzide regarding travel opportunities for constituents.

Ablakwa, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), criticized Hadzide’s promise to facilitate international travel for constituents if elected, describing it as a dangerous reflection of deeper issues within the current government.

In his post, Ablakwa laid out four key criticisms of what he termed the “disgraceful Pius Hadzide saga,” focusing on what he sees as the normalization of corrupt practices. He argued that cleared appointees in the NPP administration, like Hadzide, often become emboldened to commit further offenses.

“When a President clears his corrupt appointees, they will surely expose him,” Ablakwa said, implying that Hadzide’s actions and promises could have lasting consequences on Ghana’s image internationally.

Ablakwa also raised concerns about the potential impact of Hadzide’s statements on Ghanaian visa applicants. According to the MP, Hadzide’s remarks about helping constituents travel abroad may lead to increased scrutiny of Ghanaians applying for visas, as foreign embassies may view these promises with suspicion.

“Embassies are keenly following these reckless confessions from corrupt NPP officials,” Ablakwa wrote, warning that genuine applicants could face additional barriers due to the alleged “criminal visa racketeering” being promoted by the ruling party.

The controversy surrounding Hadzide began after a campaign event in which he promised voters he would use his connections to help young people travel to the United States for the 2026 World Cup if elected. Hadzide’s assurances also extended to facilitating travel to other countries, including Germany, the UK, and France.

“If you, Nananom, desire for your children to travel to America to work and send money back home… I promise to support you when I become MP,” Hadzide told his supporters.

Despite the backlash, Hadzide has defended his statements, arguing that offering such opportunities to constituents is a legitimate campaign pledge. He pointed to his experience in the sports sector as a qualification that would allow him to help young Ghanaians travel abroad for major sporting events.

Ablakwa, however, was unconvinced, stating that Hadzide’s remarks highlight the government’s inability to address the root causes of youth unemployment and economic hardship.

“As CEO of the National Youth Authority under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, he confirms openly and unashamedly that they have no solutions to the misery, joblessness, and hopelessness they have created for the Ghanaian youth,” Ablakwa stated.

He concluded his post with a call for a change in leadership, expressing his frustration with the current administration’s handling of these issues. “How did Ghana get here? December 7 must come quickly!” he added, referring to the date of the next general elections.

My US travel pledge is worthy of praise – Pius Hadzide claims

Pius Enam Hadzide, representing the Asuogyaman constituency for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asserted that his commitment to arranging trips for constituents to attend the 2026 World Cup in the United States deserves commendation.

He views this initiative as part of a larger vision to offer constituents valuable international experiences that will strengthen their sense of patriotism.

“The World Cup is not happening in Germany, it is not happening in the UK but I spoke to those who relate with those going to work and bring money home or going to school. But in America, I specifically spoke about going to the World Cup. We are all hopeful that Ghana will go and play in America and Ghanaians will go to America to support them.

“I am saying that as a Member of Parliament, I would support and facilitate the travel of some of my constituents who are interested in going and supporting Ghana in America to go and do the same,” he said on Accra-based Citi FM.

The promise made by former Deputy Information Minister Pius Enam Hadzide during a recent engagement with constituents has sparked varied reactions.

Drawing from his background as a former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Hadzide highlighted that his extensive connections and experience in the sports sector could open up valuable international opportunities for Ghanaian youth.

Despite facing criticism, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA) has stated that he remains resolute in his commitment.

“If you don’t want me to do that, you can probably advise me against it but I believe strongly that given the opportunity I can provide opportunities for my people to also go to America and support their country.

“They are as patriotic as everybody else. We know the Supporters Union, they travel around the world and they go and support our national teams. So, why can’t my constituents also benefit from these opportunities that are available to other people?” he quizzed.

He continued, “Are we not aware that the Ghana Supporters Union, has branches and that they can open up a branch of the Ghana Supporters Union in my constituency, which will enable them to also get the opportunity to go and support the national team? I think that people should applaud me for wanting to create opportunity for our people.”

Asamoah Gyan denounces NPP; distances himself from partisan politics

Ghanaian football icon Asamoah Gyan has publicly renounced his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), declaring his intention to step away from active politics.

The former Black Stars captain, in a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, revealed that he no longer wishes to be involved in partisan politics, focusing instead on humanitarian work through his foundation.

Gyan, who holds the title of Ghana’s all-time leading goalscorer, explained that his political involvement has not been fair to the youth of the country. He expressed a desire to redirect his energy towards empowering young people in Ghana, independent of any political party.

“I haven’t been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana. Henceforth, I am not affiliated with any political party. I will continue with my humanitarian work and help the youth of Ghana in my own small way. Nothing political. I wish all the political parties a peaceful election on the December 7 elections. God bless our homeland Ghana. Thank you,” Gyan shared in his statement.

The 38-year-old football legend had been active in the political scene earlier this year. In February 2024, Gyan made headlines after being appointed as the chairman of the Youth and Sports Manifesto sub-committee for the NPP’s presidential candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. His presence was notable at several campaign events, including a walk in Akropong, Eastern Region, with the vice president last month.

However, Gyan has since re-evaluated his position, acknowledging that his actions might have undermined his broader responsibility to the youth. By distancing himself from partisan activities, Gyan hopes to contribute positively to society through his charitable organization, the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, which aims to uplift and support Ghanaian youth.

The former footballer also extended his well-wishes to all political parties ahead of Ghana’s upcoming general elections in December, emphasizing the importance of peace during the process.

Walewale MP withdraws from NPP primary after chaotic incidents; to exit Parliament

Member of Parliament for Walewale, Hajia Lariba Zuwera Abudu, has formally withdrawn from the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primary rerun.

This information is contained in a press statement sighted by The Independent Ghana.

Her decision follows confusion at the re-run of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Walewale constituency parliamentary primary on Monday.

Following the disruption of the ballot sorting which led to the destruction of some ballot papers, the Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the Monday voting as null and void.

The EC has therefore referred the decision to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take a decision on the way forward since it was an internal party event to select a nominee to contest the December parliamentary election on the ticket of the party.

The party will now have to take a decision to fix a new date for the election to be held immediately before the filing of nominations for the December 2024 parliamentary election in the Walewale constituency closes by the end of the week.

Abu Jinapor files nomination forms for Damongo seat; calls for unity

Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has officially submitted his nomination forms to run for reelection in the upcoming 2024 general election.

Representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Jinapor aims to secure his position as the parliamentary candidate for Damongo in the Savanna Region.

Following the presentation of his nomination forms at the Electoral Commission’s office in Damongo, Jinapor who is the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources emphasized the importance of unity within the party. He expressed confidence that a united NPP would lead to victory in the December elections.

Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor

In his address, Jinapor outlined plans for significant infrastructural improvements in the constituency, including the upcoming District Roads Improvement Project (DRIP) which will bring essential road transformation equipment to Damongo.

He highlighted the party’s achievements in areas such as agriculture, job creation, and infrastructure development, asserting that these contributions have prepared the constituency to support his reelection and contribute to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential campaign.

For the second consecutive election cycle, Jinapor has been confirmed as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Damongo without opposition. The Damongo constituency, one of the seven in the Savannah Region, has traditionally been held by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) since 1993.

In the 2020 elections, Jinapor contested against Adam Mutawakilu, the then-incumbent MP who had served since 2013. Mutawakilu is expected to be Jinapor’s opponent once again in the December polls.

  • It’s an error to think NPP won’t win majority seats due to 2020 parliamentary results – NEIP CEO

It’s an error to think NPP won’t win majority seats due to 2020 parliamentary results – NEIP CEO

Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has expressed optimism that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will secure the majority of parliamentary seats in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

His confidence stems from the introduction of new candidates in constituencies where incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) had lost popularity.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, September 8, Mr. Nkansah explained that the NPP’s strategy of replacing unpopular MPs with fresh faces will help strengthen its appeal among voters. He dismissed the idea that the 2020 parliamentary results should be used as a basis for predicting the outcome of the 2024 elections.

“NPP is going to win the majority of seats in Parliament, partly because we have some fresh candidates to replace MPs who had become unpopular. You will be making a mistake if you use the 2020 Parliamentary results because some of the candidates have been changed,” he wrote.

According to him, some outgoing MPs had fallen out of favor with their constituents, leading to dissatisfaction and a loss of support in their constituencies. The decision to bring in new candidates, he said, signals the NPP’s responsiveness to the concerns of the electorate.

Mr. Nkansah highlighted that these new candidates are individuals with strong ties to their communities and are better positioned to address the needs of their constituencies. He believes this will ultimately translate into stronger support for the NPP in the upcoming elections.

The NEIP CEO further noted that the introduction of new candidates aligns with the NPP’s commitment to rejuvenating its leadership and ensuring that its representatives reflect the will of the people. He emphasized that this move will reinvigorate the party and enhance its chances of winning the majority of seats in Parliament.
