Joe Mettle, Team Eternity, others, gear up for Ningo-Prampram worship concert in December

Several well-known gospel artistes are gearing up to minister at the upcoming “Ningo-Prampram in Worship” concert in December.

This year will mark the second edition of the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament Sam George and his Dzata Foundation’s worship, prayer and praise programme.

The event will take place on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Anglican School Park and is expected to offer a strong atmosphere of worship and spiritual reflection.

Ministers on the bill are Piesie Esther, Ceccy Twum, MOG, Joe Mettle, Kofi Owusu Preprah, Perez Musik, Team Eternity, Minister Paolo and others.

Attendees will include residents, traditional leaders, clergy, politicians and other distinguished guests.

To make the programme more accessible, organisers are providing buses from selected pickup points in Accra to Ningo-Prampram.

They have also hinted at surprises, urging the public to follow updates on the official Ningo-Prampram in Worship social media pages.

Gospel singer Esther Godwyll is of the view that worship concerts should not be seen as a form of entertainment but rather as a platform for divine transformation.

“When people attend our events, they shouldn’t just look for entertainment. They should come with open hearts, ready to absorb the positive change the lyrics can inspire,” she said.

She adds that, “The gospel was never designed for fanfare or applause but to bring comfort, warmth, and joy,” she explained while engaging Graphic ShowBiz.

Madam Godwyll emphasised that gospel songs may not aim to entertain people in the usual way that secular performers do, but the message and presence they carry can transform lives.

“While we may not entertain in the traditional sense, the light we carry has the power to brighten lives. This powerful perspective resonates deeply, inviting listeners to engage with gospel music on a spiritual level rather than a superficial one,” she added.

She cautioned fellow gospel musicians to remain grounded in their mission of transforming lives for the Kingdom of God, even as gospel music continues to expand its reach and influence.

“Gospel music is stretching its wings,” she admitted, “but with that growth comes the responsibility to keep our focus clear.”

She acknowledged that innovation is fantastic, “but we must not lose sight of our spiritual purpose,” she insisted.

“It’s not a competition. Trust me, there are many bold, talented women whom the Lord is preparing. A lot of up-and-coming female artists are building capacity, and the assignment is not to dethrone anyone but to light up more corners of the world with our message,” she concluded.

Esther Godwyll is a Ghanaian gospel vocalist who debuted with the single “Faithful God” in 2021, followed by the Ghanaian EP in 2023.

With soulful solo releases, worship collaborations, and award recognition, she continues to make her mark in spiritual music.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian gospel musician Joe Mettle has revealed plans to pull out from future nominations for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

His decision stems from the demands of the awards process, which he believes sometimes an artist may not be ready for due to other equally important engagements.

“I think I do [have intentions to retire from the awards]. There are things the awards require that sometimes you’re not able to do. Because once you’re nominated, you need to push it, and sometimes a lot is going on. Sometimes it gets to a point where so much is happening around you that you can’t fully commit to the requirements,” he stated.

Joe Mettle added that thoughts of stepping back from the award scheme have been lingering for the past 3-4 years. However, he clarified that his decision is not coming from a place of pride or arrogance, as many would assume.

“For the past three or four years, I’ve wanted to take a step back from the awards. And it’s not because I think I’ve outgrown them, no, it’s not that,” he said.

He continued that, on most occasions, artists who don’t actively promote their nominations are not arrogant; that is often a misunderstanding.

In the media, they might think you’re acting ‘big,’ but it’s not the case. Most of those are assumptions,” he explained.

The “Onwanwani” singer further shared that an artist’s career goes through different seasons, and there are times when one’s focus naturally shifts, making full participation in award-related activities challenging.

“There are seasons. A time comes when you realize you can’t commit to the awards like you used to. But it’s not because you’ve outgrown them,” he added.

Despite his reflections on stepping back, Joe Mettle had a successful night at the 2025 TGMAs, taking home two awards: Best Gospel Artiste of the Year and Best Male Vocal Performance for his song “Obo Awan Oba.”

He was unable to show up for his two awards due to issues he encountered with his ticketing.

Upon his arrival at the event’s grounds, he was prevented from entry as organisers cited that his ticket had already been used; however, after attempts to resolve it, the event staff confirmed it was a network error, hence granting him entry.

Joe mettle is a celeberated Ghanaian gospel singer and songwriter known for his worship music that has tourched many lifes across Africa and beyond.

He has gained widespread recognition with hit songs like “My Everything,” “Onwanwani,” and Bo Noo Ni” which have become staples in many church worship sessions.

  • ‘I demonized social media until it projected my hard work to the world’ – Piesie Esther

‘I demonized social media until it projected my hard work to the world’ – Piesie Esther

Award-winning gospel musician Piesie Esther has revealed that she use to frown on social media usage until she experienced the positive impacts it had on her music career.

According to her, she held the view that these online platforms were set up to project unholy activities, which deterred her from leveraging them to project her brand.

“I knew that I was working but people were saying I’ve laid low. I was wondering why they were saying I was silent. I got to understand that it’s because I wasn’t active on social media.

“I used to say social media was for maame wata. Some of the things that were going on were beyond me so I was never interested in social media” she said.

Fortunately for her, she has transformed her mind to accept and understand the importance of social media in promoting her work and connecting with fans.

“I wasn’t posting anything, I wasn’t doing anything for people to see daily activities and for them to know I was actively recording music. When you hear of some things, you get to think about it thoroughly, and I’ve grown to understand it better,” she stated.

Regarding the power of social media for musicians, last year, Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata expressed his appreciation for the considerable advantages he gained following a mention by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Kinaata revealed that the Asantehene’s acknowledgment notably boosted his social media metrics and revenue.

In a social media post, he lauded Otumfuo for bringing attention to him, stating, “Since being mentioned, my numbers have soared—streams, views, and social media engagement. Opemso, medaase. Piaaww!”

The rapper enthusiastically celebrated this significant recognition on social media with frequent posts.

    What the Otumfuo said

During the General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association, Kofi Kinaata was praised in a speech by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Asantehene underscored the value of recognizing Ghana’s worth by referencing the phrase ‘Obi nya wayɛ’ from Kinaata’s popular song ‘Susuka.’

He pointed out that despite numerous challenges, many countries look up to Ghana, urging citizens to contemplate the wisdom in Kinaata’s lyrics.

On the other hand, Ghanaian musician Sherifa Gunu also described social media as both a powerful tool and a troubling force in the music industry, especially for female artists striving to maintain their dignity.

Speaking in an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Sherifa noted that while social media platforms such as TikTok have made it easier for artists to reach wider audiences, they have also created a culture where sensationalism often takes precedence over genuine talent.

“Social media is a blessing and a curse. Even if you’re the most talented artiste, you won’t get noticed unless you’re half-naked on TikTok. Sadly, talent alone isn’t enough anymore,” she lamented.

Sherifa expressed concern over the pressure on female musicians to share revealing content in order to attract attention online, stating that many feel forced to compromise their values just to remain relevant.

Despite the challenges, the award-winning singer reaffirmed her commitment to staying true to her craft, using her online presence to promote authenticity.

“I still use my page to remind fans that real music exists,” she said.

She also touched on the broader issue of recognition in the Ghanaian music scene, pointing out that the country tends to honour its legends only after they’ve passed or gained international acclaim. In contrast, she said, other nations celebrate their cultural icons while they are still alive.

Sherifa called for a shift in how Ghana values its veteran musicians, urging stakeholders to celebrate them now rather than wait until it is too late.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian rapper M.anifest shared a refreshing take on what it truly means to succeed, offering valuable advice for both creatives and professionals navigating today’s competitive world.

In an insightful conversation with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, monitored by MyNewsGh, M.anifest shared some key principles for success.

He urged individuals to look beyond the surface when traveling to global cities like London or Paris, saying, “When you’re in places like London or Paris, don’t just posture for the gram. Take the time to learn and build connections—it can transform your perspective and craft.”

With his extensive career and international acclaim, M.anifest’s words carry weight, reflecting the lessons he’s learned along the way. He highlighted the significance of collaboration and staying true to one’s authentic self as paths to growth.

He recounted a moment from his journey, stating, “It’s not always about seeking something. Sometimes, just sharing a meal or a conversation can open doors you never expected.”

Further, M.anifest spoke about the reciprocal nature of success, stressing the importance of both giving and receiving value in relationships. “Too many of us think only about taking, but the best relationships, whether in business or life, are about giving and receiving value. That’s how you grow and thrive,” he explained.

For M.anifest, success is not only about personal growth but collective progress, a principle that guides his ongoing efforts to uplift and support emerging talent in the music industry.

  • Life is tough abroad, stay in Ghana if you have a good job – Piesie Esther

Life is tough abroad, stay in Ghana if you have a good job – Piesie Esther

Gospel artiste Piesie Esther has advised young Ghanaians to reconsider their decision to travel outside the country if they have a thriving job.

According to her, living abroad is not as luxurious as many perceive it to me.

“If you are in Ghana and you have a good job and can take care of yourself. Please stay. If you want to travel, you can go out and get further education or experience, but make sure you come back and stay in Ghana,” she told Nana Romeo on Okay FM on September 15, 2025.

“What I’ve noticed is that people who have relocated abroad are not having it easy. They can work very hard, make money, but bills and other expenses will make them want to come back.

She noted that while studying or gaining experience abroad has its benefits, the real value lies in coming back to make an impact at home.

According to her, many Ghanaians eventually return because, despite earning and working hard overseas, the high cost of living and constant expenses make life difficult. She further observed that the pressure of working abroad often comes with health-related challenges.

“Many Ghanaians who have gone out there to work even develop body pains and health complications from the stress and hard work. So when they come back, they are so relieved. That’s why many people who relocate abroad eventually come back after a while,” she said.

She acknowledged the efforts of Ghanaians who move abroad for work, especially in Europe, but explained that her own trips are solely for her music career, after which she always returns home.

Her remarks feed into the broader discussion on brain drain, migration, and the availability of opportunities for young people in Ghana.

Several public figures have also voiced similar concerns, urging young professionals to remain in the country and support its growth.

Do you want me to keep it neutral and factual (news style) or give it a slightly opinionated edge to emphasize the brain drain debate?

A woman advises Africans against traveling abroad without securing accommodation beforehand.

She stresses the importance of thorough planning, highlighting the significant challenges and differences between life abroad and in Africa.

“You are travelling abroad, you don’t have where to stay and you are still coming. Whose house do you think you want to come and live in? I know I am the same person that said some Africans are very wicked towards people that travel outside, but I am the same person also saying that prepare your back before you come,” the young lady expressed.

She encourages prospective travelers to refrain from burdening those already residing in their destination with their stress.

A retired Ghanaian man who lives in Frankfurt, Germany, has expressed bitterness over going abroad.

The man, identified only as Expensive Joe, remembered that despite being able to use his abilities as a shoemaker and a carpenter to run his own business back in Accra, Germany did not permit him to do so.

“I travelled to Nigeria and Libya and finally settled in Frankfurt in 1991. We normally don’t say it, but if I am to speak for myself, I will it is the wasted years of my life. Travelling abroad didn’t help me. I was a shoemaker and carpenter back in Ghana. I was my own boss back in Accra.

“But when I came to Germany, I couldn’t make use of my skills because the system here is different. I believe if I had been given that chance, I would have made fortunes while I was here,” he explained.

Touching on his family, he reiterated that he was also not fortunate with women, as he has suffered 2 divorces – from a German woman who removed her womb, and from a Ghanaian woman he sponsored abroad.

“About family, my first wife, who was a German, told me she had removed her womb so she divorced me after 3 years. After that, I brought a Ghanaian woman here. She came with her 2-year-old child. We had 2 children later together. However, we have been divorced for almost 10 years now,” he said.

Even though he is being taken care of by the German government, Expensive Joe advised young Ghanaians to think deeply about travelling overseas for greener pastures.

“Now I am a pensioner, but my first child is 21 years. I am not working at the moment, so I am being taken care of by the government. I will advise young people to really take their time. If you have the money to travel, it would be proper to stay and work in Ghana with that,” he advised.

Meanwhile, a Ghana Human Development Report, titled “The Future Value of Work in Ghana,” released last year raised alarms about the potential deterioration of the country’s health system if urgent measures are not taken to address the significant outflow of locally trained doctors and nurses.

The report highlights a troubling trend: 24 percent of nurses trained in Ghana are currently employed abroad due to unfavorable working conditions. The situation is even more severe for doctors, with half of the country’s trained physicians having left for better opportunities overseas.

Authored by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in collaboration with the Statistical Service and the National Development Planning Commission, the report emphasizes that the Ghanaian health sector is in a precarious state.

It calls for immediate policy and pragmatic interventions to prevent a total collapse of the healthcare system.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ghana’s health system showcased its ability to handle emergencies effectively. However, the sector continues to face significant challenges, including shortages of essential materials such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and a dwindling workforce due to the emigration of qualified health personnel.

The Global Partnership Network’s 2024 data underscores the gravity of the situation, estimating that 50 percent of doctors and 24 percent of nurses trained in Ghana are working abroad.

This migration is attributed to poor working conditions for healthcare professionals within the country. The report stresses that without prompt intervention, the already fragile health system could deteriorate further.

To address these issues, the Future of Work report outlines several strategies to make the healthcare system more responsive to the nation’s evolving health needs. As the disease burden grows more complex due to factors like environmental issues, changing age structures, and lifestyle shifts, the healthcare system must adapt accordingly.

The report identifies 11 critical areas within Ghana’s health policy that require strengthening, including health promotion, palliative care, and rehabilitative care, which have traditionally lagged behind preventive and curative care. It advocates for a greater focus on health promotion, particularly primary healthcare and environmental health, to enhance both direct and indirect impacts on human capital development.

Furthermore, the report suggests adopting a life course approach to health delivery. This approach would address the needs of various population groups, such as the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and marginalized communities in urban slums, who often cannot fully benefit from existing curative and preventive care services.

Initially, the 2023 VGMA Gospel Artiste of the Year had a negative view of social media, associating it with “Maame Water,” a term in Ghanaian culture often linked to unfavourable connotations.

However, during a discussion on Adom TV’s Showtym, hosted by Sally Mann, she shared her newfound appreciation for the platform and its potential to enhance her outreach and connection with fans.

“When you take a look at things now, things have changed. Things are not the same as they used to be. Myself, initially, I thought social media was for ‘Maame Water,’ but I later realised it’s a good platform that has become a part of us as humans and can actually support my ministry,” she stated. • Piesie Esther ‘shocked’ at how arrest photo of Serwaa Amihere was leaked

Piesie Esther ‘shocked’ at how arrest photo of Serwaa Amihere was leaked

Gospel artist Piesie Esther and media figure Serwaa Amihere recently discussed their responses to the false reports of Serwaa’s arrest by the police.

On October 14, 2024, Blogger Nkonkonsa shared a screenshot of a video showing Serwaa in handcuffs and being escorted by police, claiming she had been arrested.

The post quickly ignited a flurry of reactions on social media. However, the Ghana Police Service soon clarified that the reports were inaccurate, revealing that the video was actually from a music video shoot featuring Piesie Esther.

During an interview on GhOne TV on October 18, 2024, the two opened up about how the rumours spread and how they felt about the situation.

Piesie Esther recalled her shock upon first learning about the news while she was live on a radio station.

“By the time I came out of the studio, there were a lot of calls and messages. Then I started flipping out, ‘What is going on here?’” she said.

She was puzzled about how the picture ended up on a popular blog site. Concerned for her friend, Piesie Esther immediately called Serwaa Amihere to check on her.

Serwaa reassured her, saying, “Oh, sis, don’t worry. It’s nothing. Don’t worry. You calm down.”

When asked by the interviewer if she was bothered by the rumours of her arrest, Serwaa confidently said she wasn’t, stressing, “Because I was not.”

The interviewer then enquired if Serwaa felt relieved when the Ghana Police Service issued a communiqué clarifying that she had not been arrested.

Serwaa humorously replied, “I didn’t know I was that important,” followed by a laugh.

Piesie Esther added that she wasn’t concerned about the misinformation, stating, “We knew what was in the post. We knew that it was just a video. So I wasn’t bothered about it.”

Piesie Esther’s latest single explores themes of divine intervention and grace. The gospel artist has released the official music video for her new track, “Atɛɛne,” which translates to “Overturned.”

Directed by SkyWeb Videos, the video presents an engaging storyline paired with stunning visuals.

In a noteworthy cameo, renowned media personality Serwaa Amihere plays a pivotal role as a woman caught in a difficult situation with the police. The plot thickens as she faces mistreatment in the home of a wealthy individual, leading to a dramatic twist in her fate.

Piesie Esther’s powerful lyrics resonate throughout the video: “You’re a miracle-working God; when you say a thing, you’ll do it. You have done what no man can do; my soul rejoices.”

She further expresses, “The fragrance of my blessings is everywhere; my blessings are all over. The tables have been overturned for my good. I didn’t deserve this grace. I didn’t deserve it, but you chose to do it anyway.”

As the plot thickens, Serwaa’s character is served poisoned food by her tormentor. Seizing the opportunity, she swaps the meal with her assailant’s while the latter briefly steps away, hoping to witness Serwaa’s demise. However, destiny intervenes: the wealthy individual unknowingly consumes the poisoned food meant for Serwaa, leading to her own tragic end.

Focus on winning souls than making money – Piesie Esther to gospel artistes

Ghanaian Gospel artist Piesie Esther has urged her fellow musicians to prioritize their spiritual mission of winning souls for Christ over the pursuit of success.

In a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz during the launch of her third annual ‘Made By Grace’ concert, she stressed that the core purpose of gospel music is to spread the gospel and guide people towards salvation.

Piesie Esther acknowledged the importance of financial stability but reminded her peers that the spiritual influence of their music should always take precedence.

“The essence of Gospel music is to spread the Word of God and lead people to salvation. While it’s important to be sustainable in the industry, Gospel musicians should never lose sight of their higher calling to win souls and bring people closer to Christ.

“It’s easy to get caught up in numbers, but we have to remember that we are in this to glorify God. When we think about putting concerts together, the focus should not be on making money but on making a difference in people’s lives,” she said.

She cautioned against getting distracted by the commercial aspects of the industry, emphasizing that the true essence of their work lies in glorifying God.

“The essence of Gospel music is to spread the Word of God and lead people to salvation. While it’s important to be sustainable in the industry, Gospel musicians should never lose sight of their higher calling—to win souls and bring people closer to Christ.

“It’s easy to get caught up in numbers, but we have to remember that we are in this to glorify God. When we think about putting concerts together, the focus should not be on making money but on making a difference in people’s lives,” she said.

  • “The world is evolving” – Piesie Esther on why some female gospel artistes wear revealing clothes

“The world is evolving” – Piesie Esther on why some female gospel artistes wear revealing clothes

Award-winning gospel singer Piesie Esther has addressed why many female gospel artists in Ghana are opting for outfits that accentuate their curves.

In a recent discussion with radio host Nana Romeo on Accra FM, which was later highlighted by zionfelixdotcom on Instagram, Piesie Esther explained that this shift reflects a broader change in the times.

She noted that as the world evolves, it is essential to adapt to current trends rather than remain fixed in past styles.

She also mentioned her own understanding of fashion, pointing to how her past wardrobe choices demonstrate her grasp of evolving trends.

“The world is evolving. One of my daughters showed me an old picture I took back in the day. If I showed you that picture now and you saw the dress I was wearing, you would know that I like to dress well.

My father also liked dressing so his children followed in his footsteps. I understand fashion,” she said.

To add to her defense, she mentioned that she dresses to glorify God, who she said loves beautiful things.

“I have also realized that the God I serve likes beautiful things. Maybe the pastor didn’t say we shouldn’t wear nice outfits. Maybe he was talking about how revealing the dress is.

Sometimes, I wear certain outfits I do not feel comfortable in. It’s not intentional, but either I was in a rush or I never went for a fitting to check if the dress was okay or not.

It doesn’t mean that because [if] you’re a Christian, you shouldn’t also wear nice outfits. You have to see me to also glorify God’s name,” she added.

Her remarks followed a complaint from the outspoken man of God, Prophet Kofi Oduro, who was demanding answers to why some female gospel musicians wear sexual clothes.

  • I dress to glorify God, makeup is not evil – Piesie Esther

I dress to glorify God, makeup is not evil – Piesie Esther

Piesie Esther has affirmed that enhancing one’s appearance is not unchristian, as long as it is done with modesty and style.

Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo with Nana Romeo on Thursday, August 8, 2024, the Gospel singer shared her thoughts on beauty and fashion.

She pointed out that a recently discovered old photo of herself, found by her child, shows that she has always had a sense of style.

“I understand fashion,” she added, asserting: “My God loves beautiful things.”

However, she advised women to dress elegantly without unnecessary exposure, stressing that “exposing themselves unnecessarily, the bible teaches we should dress modestly.”

She clarified that modesty does not mean avoiding fashionable clothing, and cautioned against dressing poorly under the guise of modesty or religious piety.

“Does not mean shun trendy clothing, for me, I dress so when someone sees me, they would be moved to glorify God.”

Regarding wardrobe malfunctions, Piesie Esther acknowledged that sometimes women unintentionally dress provocatively.

She added that in such situations, her conscience bothers her, and she becomes aware that her outfit might provoke others or cause concern.

“There are times, without properly assessing my clothes, I rush out of the house, only to realise I’m looking unseemly. At that moment, I don’t have any choice but to keep the clothing on. I may honestly want to take it off but, in that case, I’d have nothing else to wear,” she said.

However, she added, “In those instances, my conscience bothers me and I can clearly see I’m not comfortable in the outfit. I notice it can provoke someone or cause concern”.

On the topic of cosmetic products, the “W’aye Me Yie” singer made it clear that she has no issue with women using makeup, lashes, wigs, or other fashion items.

“Look at me, am I not looking beautiful?” she rhetorically asked. “God wants beautiful and neat things.”

She recalled “a time past when we believed, as we were told, makeup products were from [the demonic entity] maame water but now we know it isn’t the case – human beings make it – for beautifying oneself”.

Recalling a time when people believed that makeup products were from a demonic source, Piesie Esther noted that “Today, God has increased our knowledge and brought about advanced makeup kits.”

She mentioned how people in the past used powder to enhance their appearance, and today, advanced makeup kits are available thanks to increased knowledge.

She also referenced the biblical character Queen Esther, who won the favor of King Xerxes through her tasteful use of cosmetics and participation in a beauty pageant, to support her view that beauty is good as long as it is not overdone.

“Queen Esther who won the favour of King Xerxes” as a woman who tastefully “used cosmetics and fashion articles and even partook in a beauty pageant”.

“Beauty is good. It is only when beauty products are used excessively that it becomes bad,” she asserted. “Everybody knows I don’t like heavy and flamboyant makeup.”

“Even the Bible describes God in beautiful clothing,” Piesie Esther added. “There’s nothing wrong with being Christian and fashionable. Just don’t abuse makeup.”

When asked about cosmetic surgery, Piesie Esther, whose real name is Mrs. Esther Asiedu, was hesitant to say whether it is sanctioned by God.

“I’m a woman but there are times you’d see another woman and be struck instantly and undoubtedly that she is so gorgeous,” she said.

“Perhaps, women who do cosmetic surgery are taking inspiration from those who naturally have the looks they desire. As to whether it is good or not, I don’t know.”

Piesie Esther, who began her musical journey at 16, grew up in a deeply religious household where she gained a profound understanding of spirituality. Attending numerous gospel concerts during her teenage years shaped her musical abilities and career aspirations. Over the years, her series of albums and singles have earned her acclaim both nationally and internationally.

In 2023, Piesie Esther clinched the Gospel Artiste of the Year award, narrowly missing out on the prestigious Artiste of the Year title, which went to Black Sherif. Happily married to Enoch Asiedu, she is also a proud mother of four children.

During an appearance on “Upside Down,” an entertainment and lifestyle show co-hosted by Frema Adunyame and Nana Tuffour on Citi TV, Piesie Esther astonishingly admitted that she never envisioned herself achieving such immense stardom in the gospel music industry.

The conversation took a hopeful turn as she mentioned a pivotal figure in her life, “I never dreamt of being such a great person… Because it was difficult to even get food to eat…There was this musician Mama Georgia… She saw the potential in me, even when I couldn’t see it myself. Piesie Esther hints an imminent collaboration with Blacko “when the time is right”

Ghanaian gospel musician Piesie Esther has stated that she will collaborate and come out with a song with secular artists when the time is right.

Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray Thursday, the singer indicated that Ghanaians are yet to understand the concept of a gospel musician doing music with a secular musician.

“But for now, I have not thought of having music with him (Black Sherif). For me, there is no problem but you know, some Christians haven’t understood that kind of collaboration between a gospel musician and a secular musician.

“The time is not right yet but gradually and definitely, it will get to a point that they will understand. However, I don’t want to get to that for now. But when the time is right,” madam Piesie stated.

She stated, however, that she really likes secular musicians such as Black Sherif, among others and does listen to their songs on the radio.

Piesie Esther earlier this year was poised to win the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year award ahead of her fiercest contender, Black Sherif, however, Blacko emerged as the winner.

Piesie Esther speaks on Nacee’s condom sharing at concert

Renowned gospel musician Piesie Esther has shared her perspective on the distribution of condoms at fellow artist Nacee’s concert.

Piesie Esther expressed that she refrains from passing judgement on Nacee’s decision to distribute condoms at his gospel concert, acknowledging that individuals are entitled to their own opinions.

When asked about the possibility of incorporating condom sharing at her own concert in the future, Piesie Esther disclosed that she has not contemplated it yet and that such a decision would be challenging for her to make.

During an interview with Starr FM, Piesie Esther voiced concerns that the distribution of condoms at Nacee’s concert might inadvertently encourage fornication.

This perspective was shared during a conversation with the show’s host, Bola Ray.

Bola Ray: Nacee’s gospel concert, he will share condoms to those who will attend. Why is it wrong for him to do that, even though people say it is birth control so it shouldn’t be a big deal?

Piesie Esther: Okay, maybe that is Nacee but I don’t see it, or I cannot sit down here and say there is something wrong with it. However, it is Nacee who wants to do that and everybody has his or her opinion.

Bola Ray: Do you think it promotes fornication or casual sex?

Piesie Esther: It does in a way but then couples too also use it so maybe Nacee will share it for couples, not just anybody.

Bola Ray: He said it will be given to every attendee but why is it wrong for him to distribute condoms?

Piesie Esther: Actually I haven’t thought about doing that so maybe I need to have a thought about it before we can discuss it.

Bola Ray: Okay, that is fair.

Meanwhile, Nacee explained the rationale behind having a condom company as a sponsor for his inaugural concert, Kavod.

During an interview on Joy Prime’s ‘Prime Morning,’ Nacee emphasised that partnering with Total Family Health Organisation (TFHO), the maker of Ebony Condoms, as a sponsor would serve to enhance the promotion and profitability of their products.

He suggested that the proceeds generated could subsequently contribute to both employees and employers being able to fulfil their tithing commitments in church.

Piesie Esther acknowledged that she had heard criticisms from some individuals in the public domain regarding the release of her song. However, she remains unfazed by these accusations.

The speculation about tension between Piesie Esther and Joyce Blessing emerged after the release of Piesie Esther’s ‘Waye Me Yie’ song coincided with a release from Joyce Blessing, and the timing seemingly overshadowed the latter’s song.

Many believed that Joyce Blessing was upset about the timing of Piesie Esther’s song release, which had an impact on her marketing efforts. Despite this, Piesie Esther maintains that their relationship is strong.

“I don’t have any issue with Joyce [Blessing]. There is no competition anywhere. The work is a lot so we help in our own ways. Even Paul said that ‘the harvest is plenty but the laborers are few.’ The work God has given us is a lot so we are doing our best to glorify him.

“As for me, I don’t have any problem with her [Joyce Blessing] and there is no way we will begrudge because of this. She understands the work God has given her. I have heard a lot about this issue since it came up but I’m fine with Joyce so we are very okay,” Piesie Esther said while speaking in an interview with Adom FM.

Well deserved – Sonnie Badu validates Black Sherif’s winning of the VGMA Artiste of the Year award

Ghanaian gospel singer Sonnie Badu has expressed his belief that highlife musician Black Sherif’s recognition as the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year was truly deserved.

He emphasised that Black Sherif’s remarkable achievements in the music industry throughout the year set him apart from his fellow nominees, which included gospel singer Piesie Esther.

While acknowledging Piesie Esther’s outstanding contributions to her music career, Sonnie Badu maintained that Black Sherif’s time had come for the award.

This decision was influenced by the widespread popularity and significant impact of Black Sherif’s songs in the country.

“I think it was an interesting rift. Piesie did excellent but it was good. Black Sherif won it; no one should twist it. But it was good for the industry, like I can sit down and say, ‘You’ve done well but let’s allow this person to go.’ Why? Black sheriff just received an award in the US, and that’s what Ghana wants,” he said.

Sonnie Badu further explained that it does not matter whether the person winning an award is a gospel or secular musician; what matters most is if the person is qualified enough to receive such an award.

He called for unity among players in the entertainment industry and urged them to support each other in the interests of the nation.

“If I’m part of the entertainment fraternity, everybody projects that guy. That’s what Nigerians do and that is so important now.

“So he [Black Sherif] has everything it takes to take Ghana to that place at this moment. And let’s not think of the Stonebwoy’s and the Shatta Wale’s and all of that; they didn’t do anything. As a building block is not as important as the block in the middle. We all built it into a blacksmith.

“We have to be deliberate. If I was an entertainment minister, I’d look out for this guy and say, ‘What do we need to do to project him in this season and maybe another season?” Sonnie Badu said in an interview with Hitz FM.

  • Piesie Esther laments the lack of love in gospel music industry

Renowned gospel artist,Piesie Esther, in a recent interview with Accra 100.5 FM has acknowledged the presence of a significant dearth of love and camaraderie within the Ghanaian gospel music industry. Despite her initial optimism and expectations, she has come to realize that mutual affection and support among industry participants are conspicuously scarce.

Having claimed the prestigious title of Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards Europe (GMAE) 2023, Piesie Esther’s remarks underscore the contrast between her prior perceptions and the stark reality she now perceives. She concedes that, contrary to what she may have once believed, individuals engaged in this particular realm of the music industry seldom extend gestures of genuine affection or solidarity to their fellow colleagues.

Nonetheless, she also suggests that such competitive dynamics and a relative lack of camaraderie are not unique to the gospel music sector but are common features in most business ventures, where individual ambitions and rivalries often prevail over collective support and goodwill.

“At first, I used to think there was love in the industry, but now that I am inside, I have come to realise that there is no love. But what I have discovered is, that’s the way it is in any business with a lot of people,” she expressed.

She attributed it to the rivalry and competition among individuals. Adding that, most industry players smile and laugh with each other but are bitter rivals deep down.

Taking herself as an example, Piesie Esther stated that she had had to be jovial with certain people in public even though she felt no love for them.

“There are times where you see a fellow gospel colleague and just want to pass by the person because you feel nothing for that person. But you just have to greet and smile with that person,” she said.

Piesie Esther however, admitted that many gospel artistes are hardworking, but there is little to no love to be found among them.

The Gospel Artiste of the Year award has put more demands on my career – Piesie Esther

Piesie Esther, who emerged as the victor at the esteemed 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, reveals that her triumph in receiving the prestigious accolade has significantly amplified the demands placed upon her professional career.

In an interview on Rainbow Radio, Piesie Esther said she put a lot of effort into her music but had no idea she would win the category.

The musician explained that “the demand for new songs has increased after winning the awards at the VGMAs. Trust me, those who are closer are requesting new projects.”

When asked if she expected the ‘Waye Meyie’ song to be so popular and successful, she said she expected the song to have an impact, but she was surprised by the level of popularity it generated.

In an interview with host Sokoohemaa Kukua, she stated that winning the award does not come with money but can serve as a means for a musician to get more opportunities to make money.

Piesie Esther used the opportunity to disagree with those who claimed that gospel musicians did not need to participate in award schemes.

She was responding to the controversies surrounding her nomination for Artiste of the Year.

She believes that gospel musicians should be proud to be involved in such schemes if they do not promote things that are contrary to their faith.

“Being nominated was a good thing,” she said. It is on Earth but in a good way. If you are nominated, it will catapult your ministry to new heights. There is nothing wrong with a gospel musician receiving an award nomination. They are people who do not understand, but I believe that people will gradually come to understand these things.”

She went on to say that some even went so far as to say that the scheme was between the devil and God, saying, “This has nothing to do with God.” God has nothing to do with it. There was no way the other side could have won if God had been present. But God has nothing to do with it. We should accept that it is being done to reward outstanding musicians, and no one should be concerned that Christians are involved.

Christians should be proud to support Christians who have been nominated for office. Surprisingly, Christians are the ones who discourage nominated Christians. If the scheme does not require you to consult a magician or someone who practices voodoo, we have nothing to worry about.”

“That video is plagiarism, I told you that video was taken from Shatta Wale’s ‘gringo’, go and look at the Gringo video. There’s no originality in that video, it’s the same video. How do you expect to win with such a video??” he quizzed.

He expressed disappointment about the not-so-original video of the borrowed concept

“We are looking for originality in the art. If the person is not original in whatever they delivered how do you award them?? Go and watch the two videos,”

“She might have spent a lot of money on the video but it wasn’t original,”

His remarks have triggered conversations online about the significance of creativity and innovation in music videos with many industry professionals and fans also expressing their views on the matter.

  • If I don’t win artiste of the year, I will be disappointed – Piesie Esther

If I don’t win artiste of the year, I will be disappointed – Piesie Esther

Celebrated gospel musician Piesie Esther is optimistic about the upcoming the 24th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

The ‘wa ye me yie’ hitmaker is talking about her chances of winning the ultimate award on the night, Artiste of the Year.

According to her, she deserves all the seven awards she’s been nominated for because she’s worked hard for it.

Speaking to Agyemang Prempeh on Power Mid-morning Piesie Esther revealed that she will be very disappointed if she doesn’t win Artiste of the Year.

Piesie Esther is battling it out with the likes of Camidoh, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, King Promise, Kidi, Joe Mettle, and Black Sherif.

”I don’t know how many awards I will be winning but I believe that due to my hardwork, I will get the awards I deserve.I want to win all the seven nominations but I will be disappointed if I don’t win Artiste of the Year”, she said.

  • Improve your performances to obtain corporate sponsorship – Artiste manager to Gospel acts

Improve your performances to obtain corporate sponsorship – Artiste manager to Gospel acts

Artiste manager and CEO of Media Excel Productions, Kwesi Ernest, has counseled gospel performers on how to best present a comprehensive picture of themselves on stage in order to secure corporate sponsorship.

According to him, only a handful of gospel artistes are able to garner sponsorship as a result of their large fan base and showmanship when they hit the stage.

“Now that it is not very easy to get corporate bodies to support gospel shows, the onus lies on gospel musicians to do the needful by putting their acts together and making sure that they are attractive enough to catch the eye of sponsors.

“Artistes such as MOGmusic, Diana Hamilton, Ohemaa Mercy, Joe Mettle, Piesie Esther and a few others are doing great out there. However, more needs to be done if we want good sponsorship for gospel events” he told Graphic Showbiz.

Kwesi Ernest also appealed to corporate bodies to be welcoming when gospel musicians seek support from them for their events.

“I don’t want to mention names but I have been to some of these companies and it is boldly written at their front desk that they don’t sponsor gospel events. I would want to use this opportunity to encourage them to be welcoming. Sponsorship helps a lot, especially in these hard times,” he added.

Asked about his view on the current gospel scene, Kwesi Ernest said the sector is doing great. “I say this because it didn’t use to happen. To have three Gospel artistes in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year category is a huge deal. Now, most of the categories have a gospel artiste in there—Best Collaboration, Best Female Vocalist, Best Video, Most Popular Song, among others,” he stated.

Kwesi Ernest, who has managed a lot of artistes including Becca, Praye, Stella Seal, Francis Adjei and currently manages ACP Kofi Sarpong and Abena Ruthy, said he is confident Piesie Esther will win the Artiste of the Year at this year’s VGMA because she worked harder than all the other artistes competing for the ultimate prize.

“Some Ghanaians will not agree with me but the truth is that she deserves it.

Her works in the year under review are unmatched and she deserves it one time,” he added.

  • Arnold Asamoah slams Broda Sammy over his latest album launch promo video

Arnold Asamoah slams Broda Sammy over his latest album launch promo video

An entertainment analyst, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo, as well as other professionals in the field have criticized the Ghanaian gospel musician, Broda Sammy for a recent promotional video he released ahead of his album.

The musician implored heavily endowed women to twerk in a video aimed at inviting people to his upcoming gospel event, which has led to widespread condemnation.

In response to the backlash, Broda Sammy defended his actions, stating that it was a way of winning souls to Christ rather than leading them to temptation.

However, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo has criticized the stunt, stating that it is not in line with the teachings of Christ and should not be entertained.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before in all my years growing up in the church. This is a gentleman inviting multitudes to the church through evangelism and this is how he goes about it??,” he quizzed

Asamaoh-Baidoo during a discussion on UTV’s showbiz night held no prisoners as he descended on the Gospel singer for his debased actions.

“This is madness, this is silly and he has the effrontery to defend this. If we were in the old days when God wasn’t so forgiven, he’d be cleared off easily because you cannot do this in the house of the Lord. It is abominable,” said Baidoo

Arnold was of the view that Broda Sammy’s notoriety over the years has been allowed to continue because he’s not faced any consequences for his actions by religious leaders and musical bodies.

“I’ve been waiting for people in the Lord to condemn his actions after seeing the video because we’ve remained quiet and he thinks it’s okay to misbehave,” he pointed out

He was also full of praise for industry colleagues, Piesie Esther and Tagoes sisters who also expressed their disappointment with Broda Sammy’s actions, and described it as a blight to the body of Christ.

The incident has sparked a conversation around appropriate promotional tactics for gospel events and the need for musicians to stay true to their message, with many critics calling for greater responsibility and accountability from artists.

  • I don’t see contenders, they are my brothers and sisters – Piesie Esther on 2023 VGMA Gospel Song award race

I don’t see contenders, they are my brothers and sisters – Piesie Esther on 2023 VGMA Gospel Song award race

Gospel musician Piesie Esther has said she is unfazed about who will emerge victorious in the race for the 2023 VGMA Gospel Song award.

Celestine Donkor, Diana Hamilton, Joe Mettle, Perez Musik, Bethel Revival Ministries, Ewurabena and MOG Music are those competing for this award.

Despite the big names nominated, Piesie Esther says she is not worried since she does not see the nominees as rivals.

According to the “Waye Me Yie” star, these are brothers and sisters working to spread the word of God.

“I am not terrified seeing them nominated for the same category as me because we are brothers and sisters doing the work of God.”

According to her, she wasn’t surprised to be nominated in seven categories because she believes it is the will of the Lord.

She further stated that the best songwriter is one category she is looking forward to because she knew ‘Waye me yie’ would go far and it has and she is grateful to God.

  • Travis Greene, Ohemaa Mercy, Piesie Esther, others sweep patrons off their feet at 2022 Adom Praiz

Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic struck, patrons of Adom Praiz were deprived of a live concert.

For two years, they had to watch artistes perform virtually and although that was entertaining, the absence of an in-person festival was felt.

So when Adom FM and its sister channel announced the return of the in-person festival, it was an opportunity for fans to once again revisit the joy that accompanies Adom Praiz.

The 2022 lineup – Travis Greene, Celestine Donkor, Piesie Esther, Perez Muzik, Ekow Dadson and others – was seemingly an even bigger motivation for patrons to attend.

Hence, on Friday, November 4, patrons trooped in – in their numbers as early as 5 pm – to the Perez Dome in Dzorwulu to worship God and entertain themselves with songs of praise.

The event was hosted jointly by Adom FM’s Kwamena Idan and Joy FM’s Pastor Ato Acquah.

Although he is not new to Adom Praiz, Sax Borsah’s presence at Perez Dome on such an occasion was a welcome sight.

The saxophonist was the opening act for the 2022 edition.

Leading the set with his renditions of popular gospel songs, Sax Borsah had patrons on their feet worshiping and singing to the glory of God as they prepared to witness thrilling performances from the other acts.

Thus when Jesse Morgan and later ‘Big God’ hitmaker Kofi Owusu Peprah took the stage, the audience were charged, – on their feet and hands in the air – they danced and sang along to their hits.

Although her time was short, she sang, delivered a soulful performance and prayed for patrons.

From Make a Way to Intentional, Travis Greene not only thrilled the audience but left a lasting impression on them.

The headliner may have been done but there was more to look forward to.

Ohemaa Mercy brought the dome to a standstill when she graced the stage, first starting her performance with a spirit-filled ministration and later performing some of her biggest hits.

Many patrons moved to the front not only to see her better but dance and sing along to her songs.

They were willing to abandon their chairs to continue standing for the exciting performances from Pastor Edwin Dadson and later Soul Winners.

Fans pulled out their handkerchief, with some forming a long line or a circle; dancing to every praise tune these two acts put out.

Between Pastor Dadson’s medley of popular gospel songs including This far by Grace, Higher and ‘Nnaase’ and Soul Winners’ song ministrations, fans could not hold back their excitement – they were definitely a crowd favorite.

Perez Muzik with his talented vocalist then took over-delivering an electrifying performance at the Perez Dome.

But as promised he was not the final act to grace the stage.
