Samira Bawumia would have “slayed a lot” if NPP had won the elections – Krontihene of Akyem Asoum

The Krontihene of Akyem Asoum, Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, has revealed that Samira Bawumia, wife of the NPP’s presidential candidate, was notably disheartened following her husband’s defeat to John Mahama in the presidential race.

During a recent interview, Nana Boadi elaborated that Samira had been deeply committed to her husband’s campaign, imagining herself as the First Lady, poised to make a lasting impression with her elegance, style, and public engagement.

“Dr. Bawumia is not happy; he did his best and was desperate for the position,” Nana Boadi said.

“But somebody else was even more unhappy—Samira. She was so desperate for the position.”

Nana Boadi emphasized that Samira Bawumia assumed a prominent and commanding role during the NPP campaign, often commanding attention at the forefront.

He attributed this to her aspirations to secure the role of First Lady, using her striking fashion choices and magnetic personality to enchant the public.

“You know, our good old Auntie Rebecca [Akufo-Addo], she was not that outgoing, and so Samira was mostly at the forefront. She longed to be the First Lady,” he said.

He added, “If the NPP had won, she would have slayed a lot. ‘She will slay aaah Ghanaian ladies all go bore die,’” he quipped, suggesting her style would have set trends and perhaps even drawn envy.

Nana Boadi suggested that Samira’s apparent disillusionment mirrored the general sentiment within the Bawumia household after the election defeat.

“She is very unhappy,” he stated.

Don’t dress in Muslim attire for campaign purposes only – Vim Lady to Samira Bawumia

Prominent media figure Afia Pokua, also known as Vim Lady, has urged Second Lady Samira Bawumia to maintain consistency in her Muslim attire.

Vim Lady observed that Samira donned a hijab during the 2012 and 2016 election campaigns to emphasize her Muslim identity.

However, post-election, Samira was frequently seen without the hijab, which has led to questions about her genuine religious affiliation.

Vim Lady cautioned that this inconsistency could negatively affect Vice President Bawumia’s prospects in the upcoming 2024 elections.

She highlighted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is leveraging this issue as part of their campaign strategy.

“If you choose to project a liberal Islamic image, that’s one thing, but it’s crucial to be consistent with your attire, especially now that your husband is the flagbearer. The NDC is focusing on this point, and it’s not just propaganda; it reflects a real concern,” she said in a Twi video shared by One Ghana TV on YouTube.

This comes amid claims from some NDC members that Samira’s fluctuating use of Muslim attire suggests a possible attempt to downplay her Islamic identity or align more with Christian norms.

Shatta Wale blasts Samira Bawumia’s brother for demolishing land property at East Legon

A response to recent reports of property demolitions in Accra allegedly involving Abu Ramadan, brother of Samira Bawumia, dancehall artiste Shatta Wale voiced strong concerns about abuse of power and asset accumulation by those in authority.

During a widely circulated interview, Shatta Wale expressed dismay at such occurrences, asserting that they would not be tolerated in countries where equality is strictly enforced.

“It’s disheartening to hear that the sister of the Vice President’s wife was involved in demolishing people’s homes as though it is a normal issue. No, this cannot be accepted. We must uphold equality. In the UK, even disciplining a child can lead to police intervention,” he remarked.

Shatta Wale emphasized that indiscriminate demolition has become commonplace but should not be normalized.

“Ghana isn’t a country, it is an estate because police officers are building houses. President’s bodyguards are building houses and hospitals for themselves,” he added.

Recently, reports emerged alleging that Abu Ramadan, the Deputy Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and brother of Samira Bawumia, was involved in demolishing several buildings in Accra, including properties owned by a brother of Kennedy Agyapong.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Samira Bawumia has refuted any involvement in the reported demolitions carried out by her brother, considering it baseless to link her to the incident merely because of her familial connection to the Deputy NADMO Director-General. She believes such accusations are an attempt to smear her reputation and that of her husband, especially as the country approaches the December elections.

It’s illegal to pay Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Samira Bawumia salaries for being 1st and 2nd Ladies – SC rules

The Supreme Court has ruled that Parliament’s decision to approve salaries for the wives of the President and Vice President is unconstitutional.

The court declared that this approval is inconsistent with the 1992 constitution, as the first and second ladies do not hold public office.

The ruling came in response to a suit filed against the Attorney General in July 2021 by Kwame Baffoe, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), popularly known as Abronye.

Among other things, the NPP Chairman was seeking a “Declaration that per Article 71(1) and (2), the positions of the ladies do not fall under the category of Public Office holders.”

The writ added that “… Per Articles 108 and 178 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana: Parliament, cannot on its own accord, initiate or approve payment of any such emoluments which would necessarily be paid from public funds, without a bill to that effect emanating from and introduced by the Government and duly passed into law.”

The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in a case challenging the payment of salaries to the wives of the President and Vice President. The court declared that Parliament’s approval of these salaries is inconsistent with Article 71 clauses 1 and 2 of the 1992 constitution of Ghana, and therefore null, void, and unenforceable.

A seven-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, granted three out of the four reliefs sought by Abronye. However, his fourth relief, which questioned Parliament’s authority to initiate or approve such emoluments without a bill from the government, was not granted.

Meanwhile, a similar action filed by National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, was partially dismissed. Only one of his reliefs was granted, while the rest, which focused on the recommendations of the Professor Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu Committee, were dismissed.

The panel of the Supreme Court that heard the case included Justices Gabriel Pwamang, Avril Lovelace-Johnson, Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, Barbara Ackah-Yensu, Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu, and Ernest Yao Gaewu.

Samira Bawumia’s family did not demolish Ken Agyapong’s brother’s apartments at Adjiringanor

In contrast to assertions circulating on social media, a recent report has refuted claims that the demolition of multi-storey buildings linked to a relative of Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong in Adjiringanor was orchestrated by the family of the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia.

Videos surfacing on social platforms on the evening of Sunday, April 7, depicted the demolition of the structures situated on a parcel of land in the Adjiringanor area of East Legon.

Accusations quickly arose, implicating a relative of the Second Lady in the demolition.

Nevertheless, insights provided by a user on the X platform refute these allegations.

The user unveiled that the demolished structures were constructed on land entangled in a legal dispute since 2021.

The user shared documents revealing that the injunction was imposed on the land three years ago, during the early stages of development.

Despite this injunction, George Oti Bonsu purportedly continued construction on the land.

One court order explicitly designates Hajia Aisha Ahmed as the “as the legal and beneficial owner of the said land forthwith.”

Another order restricts the Defendants and their affiliates from accessing, selling, or developing the land in any capacity.

Another orders state that the “Defendants, their privies, agents, assigns, workmen, servants, and any other person, group of persons, or entities claiming through or under them are by this Perpetual Injunction Order prohibited and/or restrained from going onto, entering into, selling, developing or dealing with the 2 parcels of land and adjudged as belonging to the Plaintiff herein, in anyway whatsoever forthwith.”

Government spokesperson, Kofi Tonto, clarified that wife of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Samira Bawumia, was not an official government delegate at the COP28 summit in Dubai.

Mr Tonto explained that Mrs. Bawumia’s trip was sponsored by climate change advocacy groups she had been engaged with over the years.

While not justifying the size of Ghana’s delegation, Tonto emphasized the need to set the record straight regarding Samira Bawumia’s participation.

“The government didn’t sponsor Samira to go to COP. Samira has been engaged in a lot of climate work activity… Just do a cursory look on her social media, you will see that Samira has been doing climate work for the longest time,” he defended.

Aside from that, she is even engaged in clean cooking, “part of climate change is ensuring accessible, sustainable, affordable and clean cooking fuels for African women and children,” he read from one of Samira’s social media posts.

Why Samira Bawumia wept like a baby – Captain Smart reveals

Onua TV/Radio presenter, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has made a shocking revelation about the alleged maltreatment meted to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia by some big names in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

According to Captain Smart, the Vice President has been belittled by many individuals in the ruling party thanks to President Akufo-Addo, whom Captain Smart alleges has sidelined his vice in the running of the country despite his progressive policies.

In an edition of Onua TV’s Maakye Show, Captain Smart named Gabby Otchere-Darko, Asante Bediatuo, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as some of the individuals who purportedly have no or less reverence for the Vice President.

“But Akufo-Addo and his family never gave Bawumia the opportunity to do anything. I am being frank. The kind of information I have, you don’t have it. Asante Bediatuo doesn’t respect Bawumia. Gabby Otchere-Darko does not give reverence to Bawumia.

“Those who are close to Akufo-Addo don’t respect him. There is no idea in this world that he suggested to Akufo-Addo that has been taken.

“The Finance Minister, Nana Bediatuo, Gabby, the president himself, Captain Koda, name them, they don’t take his suggestions. Then they come out to boast saying NPP is Danquah-Busia,” Captain Smart said.

He noted that this maltreatment got to the Vice President’s wife, Samira Bawumia, during a visit to the Jubilee House in December 2022. Captain Smart alleged that Mrs Bawumia had a first hand experience of the ill treatment against her husband.

“Someone should ask Samira Bawumia. Last year, 28th December at 2:45pm, she wept like a baby. You should ask her what happened. Ask Samira Bawumia, after one cabinet meeting where she visited her husband at Jubilee House, they were saying hurtful things about Bawumia.”

Captain Smart alleged that Dr Bawumia was the reason behind NPP’s 2016 election victory, nonetheless “they don’t respect Bawumia one bit. He is suffering.”

He cited an instance, where one of the Vice President’s cadres is allegedly yet to be fixed a year after it got faulty due to lack of funds.

“One of Bawumia’s cadres got spoilt and it’s been over a year. They say they don’t have money to repair it.”

According to Captain Smart, Dr Bawumia “has cried more than 17 times in his office as Vice President” due to how he is being treated by some members in his government.

Meanwhile, Captain Smart alleges that it is President Akufo-Addo’s plan to take the NPP into opposition in order to still have control of the party.

“They just want to take the NPP into opposition so they can have control over it. I won’t say anything to Bawumia but when you go into opposition, there you will see how the Akyem people dislike you.”

    “Be vigilant Bawumia,” he added.

  • Power FM ordered to apologise to Samira Bawumia and Fulani community

The National Media Commission (NMC) has directed Power FM, an Accra-based radio station, to apologise to the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Samira Bawumia, and the entire Fulani community in Ghana for allowing their platform to be used to insult and denigrate them.

According to a statement issued by the NMC on November 6, 2023, the radio station breached the ethical standards of journalism and the public’s sensibilities by airing a programme on November 1, 2023, that contained gender-based and ethnic slurs against Mrs. Bawumia and the Fulani people.

The statement, signed by the Executive Secretary of the NMC, George Sarpong, said that the programme sought to incite ethnic tension and undermine national cohesion, peace and development. “Such behaviour has no place in our search for national cohesion, peace and development,” the statement read.

The NMC, therefore, ordered the managers of Power FM to render an apology to the affected victims as well as the entire Ghanaian public. The NMC also asked the radio station to present evidence of the apology to the commission before November 11, 2023, or face further sanctions.

The NMC is the statutory body mandated to regulate the media in Ghana and ensure that they adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and accountability.

The NMC also has the power to investigate and resolve complaints against the media and to promote media freedom and responsibility.

Your remarks against Samira Bawumia were derogatory, apologise to her – NMC tells Power FM

The National Media Commission (NMC) has directed Power FM to issue a formal and unambiguous apology to the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, for broadcasting offensive remarks against her and the Fulani community in Ghana.

Power FM is accused of airing a “perverted and debased broadcast” on November 1 targeting the Second Lady, an action that the National Media Commission views as conflicting with the promotion of national unity.

In an official statement released on November 6, the NMC strongly condemned the behavior of the show’s host, asserting that the host had actively encouraged the commentator to make further disparaging comments about the Second Lady.

The NMC, in its statement, has directed Power FM to extend an apology to the Second Lady and provide evidence of the apology to the Commission by November 11.

    Below is the full statement.

On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, you allowed your station, Power FM, to be used as the medium for gender-based insult on H.E. Hajia Samira Bawumia in a perverted and debased broadcast that also sought to denigrate the entire Fulani Community in Ghana and incite ethnic tension. Such behaviour has no place in our search for national cohesion, peace and development.

Your presenter’s phoney protestation was unprofessional and deceitfully calculated to egg the commentator on. Instead of being a moderator, your presenter became a cheerleader for obscenity.

We ask you to apologise to H.E. Hajia Samira Bawumia and the Fulani Community. We additionally ask that you apologise to the Ghanaian public whose sensibilities you breached by that broadcast.

We expect you to undertake the above and present evidence of same to the Commission before November 11, 2023 after which date you may hear further from the Commission.

  • Samira Bawumia’s “pricey” bags under scrutiny as calls for clean campaigns gain momentum

Samira Bawumia’s “pricey” bags under scrutiny as calls for clean campaigns gain momentum

In the midst of the escalating political frenzy ahead of the November 4 presidential primaries, a surprising controversy has emerged, centred around Second Lady Samira Bawumia and her choice of bags.

Kwabena Senkyire, a staunch supporter of Mahamudu Bawumia‘s flagbearership campaign, has stepped forward to call for a clean and propaganda-free campaign season within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Senkyire’s comments come in response to allegations made against Samira Bawumia by a member of the Kennedy Agyapong campaign team, Ralph Agyapong.

Ralph Agyapong alleged that Samira Bawumia’s recent remarks about the necessity of retaining power and the rejection of bitter and angry candidates were aimed at his brother, Kennedy Agyapong.

Furthermore, he claimed that these comments were fueled by the Second Lady’s lavish lifestyle, particularly her penchant for bags that carry a hefty price tag in the thousands of US dollars.

Senkyire, not one to stay silent, swiftly defended Samira Bawumia from these allegations, questioning the relevance of such accusations in the political arena. He said, “Have you seen a First or Second Lady who goes around holding a bag? It hasn’t happened before, has it? Have you seen a president holding his own bag before? It doesn’t happen, so let’s stop the propaganda.”

Senkyire emphasized that these internal squabbles could potentially harm the NPP’s chances in the upcoming elections and cautioned against publicizing every issue within the party. He also reiterated Samira’s warning that when power is entrusted to an individual, it must be done so with great care.

“This is an internal fight because if we have to say everything, there would be issues… Hajia Samira said something and I would like to repeat it, ‘that if you give power to a person, be very careful’,” he said.

As the political climate heats up, it remains to be seen how this unusual controversy surrounding Samira Bawumia’s choice of accessories will impact the NPP’s race for the presidency. Nonetheless, calls for a cleaner and more focused campaign continue to gain traction, with Senkyire’s intervention serving as a timely reminder of the importance of unity within the party.

The cost of your handbag is more than your husband’s donation to Akosombo dam spillage victims – Ken’s team tells Samira Bawumia

A member of the legal counsel for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, has chided the wife of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for her ‘luxurious’ lifestyle, which comes at an exorbitant cost.

Ralph Agyapong noted that Mrs Samira Bawumia could have invested the sums of money spent on accessories such as handbags to help alleviate the current condition of Ghanaians who are facing economic challenges.

He noted that the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, whom she allegedly described as “bitter, angry, and satisfied candidate” has played a vital role in the upgrade of lives in the Ashanti Region.

Mrs Bawumia is reported to have entreated NPP delegates to ignore Mr Agyapong since he didn’t mind landing the party into opposition.

In response, Mr Ralph Agyapong said: “This is the Second Lady who is in the Ashanti region and telling the polling station executives and coordinators about someone she claims to be bitter, angry, and satisfied.

“When God blessed him, he didn’t spend the money; rather, he is using it to build a Cardio Centre for 37 Military Hospital for the military.

“Go to the Okomfo Anokye Cancer Centre; he has donated money to them. When he had money, he didn’t use it to buy expensive bags to go and stand in front of polling station executives.”

He compared the amount of money spent on bags by Mrs Bawumia to the Vice President’s recent donation to the victims of the dam spillages in the country.

“The money she used to buy the said bag is more expensive than her husband’s donation to the flood victims. If you approach people with this kind of luxurious lifestyle and tell them this, what is more insulting than this? So, what the woman said, I believe it just came at the spot, that is how I see it,” he said.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has donated GH₵160,000 of his personal funds to victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.

Kennedy Agyapong will be vying for the flagbearer position, facing three other competitors, namely Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The brother and lawyer of Kennedy Agyapong a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful,Ralph Agyapong, has responded to Second Lady Samira Bawumia’s recent political comments.

In the said comments, Mrs. Bawumia is heard advising NPP delegates to ignore a “bitter, angry, and satisfied candidate,” who she implied did not mind even if the party landed in opposition.

In an interview on Okay FM on October 19, 2023, Lawyer Agyapong was questioned about why Kennedy’s camp attributed the Second Lady’s speech to themselves, even though she did not mention anybody by name.

He insisted that the candidate in question was indeed Kennedy Agyapong, and as a result, the Second Lady’s remarks were directed at him. He further stated that her comments were insulting to the delegates in the Ashanti region.

“We have taken her speech upon ourselves; do you know why? In this life, everyone wants a fool to play with but nobody is willing to give birth to a fool,” he said.

He clarified that the Second Lady’s extravagant lifestyle appeared to be an attempt to mislead the ordinary polling station delegates who were grappling with challenges and often relied on Kennedy Agyapong for assistance.

Furthermore, he emphasised that Kennedy had been utilising his resources to address the country’s needs and the well-being of its citizens.

Ralph Agyapong also drew attention to what he described as the opulence of the Second Lady’s attire during the event where she delivered these comments, insinuating that it was more costly than the recent donation made by her husband, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to flood victims in the country.

“This is the Second Lady who is in the Ashanti region and telling the polling station executives and coordinators about someone she claims to be bitter, angry, and satisfied.

“When God blessed him, he didn’t spend the money; rather, he is using it to build a Cardio Centre for 37 Military Hospital for the military.

If you approach people with this kind of luxurious lifestyle and tell them this, what is more insulting than this? So, what the woman said, I believe it just came at the spot, that is how I see it,” he said.

He chastized Samira for telling the polling station executived about opposition and suffering when they are in fact already suffering even with their government in power.

“But yet you are living an opulent life and you appear before them and tell them that the person whose contribution to this country and party is unmatched by any of the aspirants is bitter and satisfied.”

Kennedy Agyapong will be vying for the flagbearer position, facing three other competitors, namely Dr. Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, has urged aspiring authors to use creative writing to actively address societal issues.

Addressing young writers at the 2022 Samira Bawumia Literature Prize in Accra last Thursday, she said the importance of writing and the art of storytelling were an important tool that could not be overemphasised.

She said there was therefore the need for the youth to utilise their skills to inspire, educate, and transform lives while capturing stories and experiences that might be lost or forgotten over time.

“The life of the contemporary African in the 21st century and our place in the global village must be told in both fiction and non-fiction, and, indeed, nobody can tell our stories better than ourselves,” she said.

“So I encourage you all to continue to read and write.

A people who read and write engage their imaginations; and this opens up portals of endless possibilities as the most successful of any generation are those whose ideas solve problems within their communities or the world,” she emphasised.

Mrs Bawumia, however, advised that while this was being taken up, writers should not also lose sight of how valuable writing was in today’s job market, saying it was also a means to provide opportunities for self employment and job creation in the future.

The event is an annual biennial literary prize that seeks to create a nurturing and supportive environment for aspiring young Ghanaian writers to grow, develop and highlight their literary skills.

The competition is opened to writers to show their skills in categories, including poetry, short fiction and creative non-fiction.

After receiving over 1,000 entries for all categories in this year’s competition, 30 individuals were awarded with three participants emerging ultimate winners for each category.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Library Authority, Hayford Siaw, commended the awardees for their sterling performances in the competition, stating that for some time now, the reading and writing habit among the youth could not be hailed.

He added that the establishment and patronage of libraries, and receiving over a 1,000 applicants in the literary competition were evidence of the high rise in reading and writing which should be fostered.

“I urge all to ensure that we make the country a reading country by being readers and actively patronising the works of local writers in the country,” Mr Siaw said.

As a gesture to show her support, Ms Alhassan purchased 10 books each of all awardees in the competition.

  • You must desist from the habit and strategy of deceit in its quest for power – NPP to NDC

You must desist from the habit and strategy of deceit in its quest for power – NPP to NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is in opposition to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been advised to be accurate in its evaluations of Ghana’s economic predicament.

The NPP is of the view that notwithstanding its excellent handling of the Ghanaian economy, the NDC has grown accustomed to concealing the government’s economic gains using dishonest tactics, a practice it wants the NDC to put an end to.

The NPP National Chairman, Stephen Ntim in an address on Tuesday said, the NDC’s hunger for power cannot be satisfied by lies.

“The NDC must desist from the habit and strategy of deceit in its quest for power. Such methods are often short-term but have long-term ramifications for democracy, public confidence, and, not least, the global perception and embrace of our dear country, Ghana”, he said.

The NPP adds that the NDC’s ploy will not persuade the government to abandon its efforts to better its economic record.

“Let me end by passing this piece of advice through you to the NDC. As a political party, the NDC has a sacred responsibility, to be honest, and upfront with Ghanaians in all things”, he further added.

Stephen Ntim thus urged party members to assist in spreading the NPP’s goodwill.

“I call on the rank and file of the NPP to arise and mobilise behind our government to defeat the onslaught of the NDC propaganda. This means that all of us in the NPP, from polling stations upward, must become canvassers and communicators to help disabuse the minds of our fellow Ghanaians from the misinformation that the NDC is feeding the nation.”

Despite undertaking the historic Debt Exchange Programme and seeking a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the NPP has hailed the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration for diligently managing Ghana’s economy.

Stephen Ntim, echoed claims that the current crippling economic crisis is due to the impact of Covid-19 and the effects of the Russia-Ukraine War and not the incompetence of the economic management team as propagated by the opposition National Democratic Congress.

“The plain truth is that this government has managed the economy diligently and well. The hardships we are experiencing in Ghana are being experienced everywhere because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War. Workers in some of the world’s biggest economies are demanding salary increases due to historic global inflation.”

  • Dr. Bawumia and Second Lady Samira pay former President Kufour a visit

On Boxing Day, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, and Samira Bawumia, the second lady, visited the former president John Agyekum Kufour.

The Bawumias paid the 84-year-old man a “Christmas tribute” visit at his home.

On his social media accounts, the Vice President posted pictures from the outing along with the caption, “Samira Bawumia and I paid a Christmas homage to Former President Kufuor at his mansion.
Having conversations with Papa Kufuor is always a treat.

The former President and the Vice President have a relationship of healthy mutual admiration.

A few years ago, when Kufour remained more active in politics, he wholeheartedly endorsed the Vice President as an exceptional future leader for this country.

Speaking during an event in which the former President introduced the Vice President, he said that Ghana is extremely fortunate to have a leader like Bawumia on hand, calling him a ‘responsible politician’.

“The nation must count itself fortunate to have such a son as Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who rightly fits the role of the needed analyst. He is an economist, banker and also a responsible politician, who has a lot of experience,” said the former President.

Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia has kept up a busy schedule even over the holiday period.

On Sunday, 25th December 2022, Dr Bawumia worshipped with prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah’s Glorious Word and Power Ministries for their Christmas day service.

The Vice President delivered an address to the church’s congregants, during which he said Ghanaians have a lot to be thankful to God for despite an economically challenging year.

“The birth of Jesus Christ is a very special event for humanity. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary. When Joseph brought them to Bethlehem, there was no house for them so they had to go into the manger with the animals. That is where Jesus was born.

“Jesus Christ was born in a manger but we are now waiting for him to come back and save the world from the anti-Christ. Today is a great day to celebrate for humanity. Today is also a day to give thanks to God. We sometimes labour in our problems but we have a lot to be thankful for,” he said.

  • V8 full of makeup: Samira Bawumia chases Neat FM over Sammy Gyamfi’s allegation

Second Lady Samira Bawumia on November 9, 2022, demanded an apology from Despite Group of Companies on the allegations that a full V8 had been dedicated to carrying make-up and an artist whenever she travelled within the country.

The allegation was made on Neat FM, a subsidiary of the Despite Media Group, by the Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Sammy Gyamfi.

According to a letter from the Second Lady’s lawyers, Sarkodie Baffuor Awuah and Associates addressed to the Manager of Neat FM, the allegation made on November 7, 2022, on the ‘Me Man Nti,’ programme was untrue.

The letter said that Sammy Gyamfi was allowed to peddle the allegation and that with the host’s failure to rein him in, Mrs Bawumia was cast “in the minds of right thinking members of the society, as a person who is insensitive, wasteful and unreasonable.”

The twin demands made were that Sammy Gyamfi is made to retract the allegations on the same show and an unqualified apology be rendered to the Second Lady by the host of the programme.

    What did Sammy Gyamfi say?

Sammy Gyamfi on the abovementioned date alleged that Samira Bawumia in these hard times transports her makeup artiste and makeup kit in a brand new Landcruiser.

He questioned why the Second lady will be insensitive in these hard times to transport her makeup artiste and kit in a Landcruiser everywhere she goes.

“…there is another person; Samira Bawumia, do you know her convoy includes a brand new Landcruiser carrying makeup; makeup artiste; it follows her everywhere. Who is paying for that, the taxpayer,” he alleged.

  • There’s no V8 for Samira Bawumia’s makeup kit – Sammy Gyamfi retracts, apologizes

Communications Director of the main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has retracted and apologized for an allegation he levelled against Second Lady Samira Bawumia.

He is on record to have said on Accra-based Neat FM on November 7, 2022, that Samira Bawumia had a whole V8 Landcruiser dedicated to carrying her makeup and a makeup artiste.

The comments attracted a formal demand for retraction and apology directed at Neat FM, a subsidiary of Despite Media Group.

According to a November 9, 2022 letter from the Second Lady’s lawyers, Sarkodie Baffuor Awuah and Associates, addressed to the Manager of Neat FM, the allegation made on the ‘Me Man Nti,’ programme was untrue.

The letter stressed that Sammy Gyamfi was allowed to peddle the allegation and that the host’s failure to rein him in, had cast Mrs Bawumia “in the minds of right-thinking members of the society, as a person who is insensitive, wasteful and unreasonable.”

The twin demands made were that Sammy Gyamfi is made to retract the allegations on the same show and an unqualified apology be rendered to the Second Lady by the host of the programme.

Sammy Gyamfi, in a follow-up interview on Wednesday duly apologized for lying about the Second Lady.

He confessed that his claims were untrue and that it was only fair that he retracted his comments and apologized.

“The Second Lady’s convoy does not have one brand new Landcruiser that carries her makeup kit and artiste. There is no V8 that transports her makeup kit and artiste according to the office of the Second Lady so it’s only fair for me to retract. I am sorry,” Sammy Gyamfi stated.

  • Put issues affecting women on front burner – Second Lady tells media

Mrs Samira Bawumia, Second Lady, has reiterated the call on the media to make issues affecting women top billing in the media space.

She said women empowerment should not be about tokenism to balance the gender equation, or about hearing women’s voices, but a deliberate effort to make women part of the space.

“The media is vital to shaping the woman narrative. Women empowerment in the media should start with not only giving women a voice but also ensuring that they are protected from unnecessary attacks and unfair scrutiny that make participation in the media space unattractive.”

Mrs Bawumia said this at the opening of a two-day West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA), 2022, organised by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), on the theme: “Media and women empowerment in Africa”, on Thursday, in Accra.

She said women empowerment had come a long way and should continue to move from the notion that it was a cause only to be championed by women, saying ‘”an empowered woman is a critical component of an empowered society, and there is no institution better placed to champion this than the media.”

She said the media, in educating and informing, must prioritise the unheard, marginalised, and under-represented, out of which women formed the majority even though they represented more than half of the population.

“There appears to be little progress in Africa and according to the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) report in 2020, it is estimated that it will take 67 years to close the average gender equality gap in traditional news media,” she said.

She said it meant that for the African continent, where there was relative stagnation, deliberate, sustainable action must be taken to achieve parity in the shortest possible time.

The Second Lady noted that sometimes content producers in the media faced difficulties when trying to have women’s voices or women’s representation on shows and programming for various reasons.

She said irrespective of that, the solution was not to ignore them but to keep trying, provide encouragement and foster a safe space for them to freely express themselves.

She said there were several factors, including socio-cultural issues that inhibited women’s participation in the media and said, “we should collectively seek solutions to them.”

Mrs Bawumia encouraged women to take up positions of influence in their communities and countries, including serving in public offices to help shape policy and influence decisions that affected them.

“We are stronger when we achieve critical mass in media, politics, industry, and every worthy sphere of human endeavour,” she said.

Madam Zoe Titus, Chairperson, Global Forum for Media Development and Director Namibia Media Trust, said the theme reflected on ways in which women were portrayed in the media, and the role and empowerment of women journalists themselves.

She said according to global research conducted by the GMMP in 2020, on average, women were only 25 percent of those seen, heard, and read about in news, saying new and emerging challenges related to how information was produced, disseminated, and consumed, which continued to prevent the achievement of gender equality and women’s empowerment globally.

She noted that a recent report by the World Association of Newspapers highlights culture, patriarchy and socialisation as key barriers in the way of women’s rise to leadership and management positions in newsrooms.

“Even though we have come far as a continent in women and media empowerment, we still have a long way to go in terms of the way in, which the media reports on women, the progress of women in Journalism and the extent to, which they have been able not only crack, but really break through the glass ceiling.”

Mr Suleimana Brimah, Executive Director, MFWA, said the conference since its inception remained the region’s biggest platform for honouring and inspiring journalism excellence across West Africa.

He said the conference and subsequent ones, would highlight the barriers against women empowerment; discuss ways in, which the media in Africa could help break those barriers; and how the media could amplify women’s voices, women’s ideas, women’s innovation, and women’s power for inclusive development.

“We cannot build a better Africa by continuing to discriminate against women and leaving women behind. The building of better societies begins with the empowerment of women, and we are doing it because it is the right thing to do and the right time to do it is now,” he stated
