  • ‘Beef’ is the new currency that everybody feeds on – M.anifest

Ghanaian rapper, M.anifest, has posited that lyrical beef in the industry is the easiest way musicians who indulge in it get attention. This, he added, has witnessed the high rise of battles among musicians.

According to the celebrated musician who was caught up in a beef with Sarkodie back in 2016, the phenomenon, which has its own positive benefits, has witnessed a number of acts jump on beefs to promote their works or brands.

“We’ve just inherited the world…people really recognize the financial benefit of attention. Attention is the new currency, it is a new drive that everybody feeds on and beef is the easiest way to get attention,” M.anifest disclosed.

Speaking on BBC World News, M.anifest noted that he is usually caught up in beefs with institutions rather than his colleagues, adding that it doesn’t only occur in the music industry.

“I have beefs with the institutions (laughs)…that is life. It is a lot about different philosophical points of view, always going at each other whether it’s in literature, politics, religion etc,” he noted.

M.anifest is currently on a world tour dubbed “Madina To The Universe.”

  • Sarkodie is an ordinary artiste – Dr UN

The organizer of the controversial Global Blueprint Excellence Awards, Dr. UN, described Sarkodie as an ordinary artiste, adding that he is not better than him or bigger than his award scheme.

Speaking in an interview with blogger Zionfelix, he added that the rapper doesn’t have better qualifications.

He also claimed to have had direct contact with the musician who was a recipient of his controversial UN awards.

“When he travels, Sarkodie will let you know that I am in Memphis…I am in South Africa, Zulu, he takes pictures of himself with the lions and sends them to me on WhatsApp.

“I don’t know how you value Sarkodie more than the people I have brought on my platform. He is an ordinary artiste I know. He is not older than me and doesn’t hold any better qualifications than me. He is not a master of the mic than myself,” he said.

Dr UN advised the award-winning artiste to humble himself because the people he respects, like Bola Ray and Kwame Adinkra, among others, are not better than him.

“He has to humble himself. If you respect Bola Ray you have to respect me much better. If you respect Kwame Adinkra, you have to honour me.

“Don’t take me cheeky ease. It’s the SHS graduates that listen to you. Someone can see me as a super person in a power bubble,” he added.

  • Sarkodie will have to pay me $200,000 for verse – DJ Azonto

Grammy-winning Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie will have to pay DJ Azonto $200,000 for a verse, according to the sensational Afrobeats singer.

DJ Azonto asserts that he is talented enough to create a hit song without the help of Sarkodie or a co-sign, and that he does not require their collaboration to create a popular song.

In an interview with Shatta Michy on Movement TV, DJ Azonto declared that while he would never perform a free feature for Sarkodie, he would never accept payment for a verse that was less than $200,000.

“For me, Sarkodie wouldn’t get a free feature, and I wouldn’t accept a payment of less than $200,000.
Sarkodie will not be paid less since I don’t need him to create a successful song, “he stated.

DJ Azonto recently made a claim for Artiste of the Year at next year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

  • ENE Yatt expresses discontent over Sarkodie’s whopping $25k service charge

Nigerian Afropop group ENE Yatt has criticized the management of rapper Sarkodie for requesting a whopping 25,000 dollars as a service fee for a collaboration.

The music group, who identify as underground artists, stated that the fee was outrageous given the fact that they are currently unable to raise that amount.

The Ghana-based duo Smart and Snazy expressed discontent that most musicians “do not know how to develop relationships.” The emphasis is constantly on paying for features.

“We wanted to do a song with Sarkodie, we were asked to pay 25,000 dollars. This was like a couple of months ago

“The fact is, paying this money is not actually the problem but taking this money from an underground artiste who is trying to come up. I wonder where you want him to get to. One of the big problems we’ve noticed in Ghana is that most artistes don’t know how to build relationships,” they disclosed in an interview on Hitz FM.

ENE Yatt noted that the celebrated Ghanaian rapper is worth more considering his relevance in the industry, however, his team should have been considerate considering the fact that they are still finding their feet in the industry.

“Sarkodie is big, he deserves to be paid more than $25,000. He can take more than $100,000 but definitely not from artistes who are trying to survive…we spoke to his management. We spoke to Angel Town and a couple of people but the point is, we are not that artiste you should take that kind of money from,” they disclosed.

  • Stonebwoy delivers stunning performance to sell-out crowd at No Logo Festival, France

Stonebwoy was captured in a video not only delivering a strong performance but managing to keep the crowd engaged in his performance as well.

For Ghanaian acts performing abroad to largely foreign crowds, it can be a huge challenge to get them invested in your performance.

Just ask Sarkodie, who had to perform to a dead crowd during a recent U.S show.

Stonebwoy somehow beat that as he transmitted his energy and forced the crowd to go along with his flow.

The video of the performance showed an impressive outing by the BHIM Nation boss.

“Chairman wan copy wat burnaboy go do,” he said.

This triggered a BHIM fan to come at him hard!

“U people always talk nonsense why do God even create blacks because we are full of bitterness u will not support him but trying to downplay his effort to I can see u are jobless,” he fired.

Africa’s best rapper Michael Owusu Addo affectionately called Sarkodie who is currently holding the best International flow BET Awards posted on his Facebook revealed he’s hoping to be president of Ghana in the year 2024.

The rapper who is the most successful Ghanaian rapper has gained a lot of respect and acronym for his Breakthrough with the style of rap he does both in Ghana and Abroad, could be the next Ghanaian president.

But the question is can a rapper ever be president? Looking at the nature of their job. Rapping in N*words, attacking politicians who aren’t delivering the promises they give when seeking for positions.

To continue with Sarkodie’s reputable brand he’s been able to build for himself over the years and overcoming every obstacle on his way to reach this far would be excellent for the presidential seat.

Or king Sark is just playing a mind game with his fans looking at how his mentor Kanye West current swap from rap to politics. Knowing how Ye isn’t finding it easy with all the pressure and backlash I don’t think King Sark is serious about what he posted.

He further dared him to go ahead and burn the CDs.

“Dela goofed big time; he could have made his argument without attacking the young man’s brand. • 4 reasons why Sarkodie deserves to win 2020 VGMA Artiste Of The Year

The best thing to happen to Ghana music in recent times is the name Sarkodie.

The Tema based musician has been tagged as Africa’s most decorated rapper with over 80 awards to his credit.

Sarkodie is still relevant in the music game since he released his debut album, ‘Makye’ in 2009. The former Samsung ambassador is regarded by many as Ghana’s most influential music export for the many international awards and performances he has been associated with.

Sarkodie till date is the only solo artiste to have won Ghana Music Awards – Artiste of the Year twice, in 2010 and 2012. Fans of Sarkodie are hoping their artiste makes history at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) after Charter House, the organisers, announced in February that he has been nominated alongside Kuami Eugene, Medikal, Kofi Kinaata and Diana Hamilton.

With 10 nominations at this year’s event, Sarkodie will rewrite history as the best Ghanaian rapper ever if he is crowned with the ultimate award for the 3rd time.

Charter House has clearly defined the Artiste of the Year category as the artiste adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the artiste with the highest Audience Appeal and Popularity, and must have released a hit Single/Album during the year under review.

By breaking the category definition down, here are my 4 simple simple reasons why Sarkodie should be honored with the grand award.

    1. Highest Audience Appeal

Currently Sarkodie is rated as one of the best stage performers in Ghana. Even though he raps, Sarkodie’s live performances over the years has attracted a lot of music fans, young and old, here in Ghana and abroad. King Sark on August 2015 had a historic sold out concert at the Apollo Theater in New York. Again, in 2016 Sarkodie successfully headlined his first ever UK concert at Indigo at the 02.

In 2019 alone, which is the year under review, Sarkodie had amazing performances at many high budget shows including Afrochella 2019, MMCLIVE 2019, 2019 VGMAs, 2019 TINA Festival and his own star studded show Rapperholic 2019.

    2. Popularity

Sarkodie is still rated among the 3 top artistes currently in Ghana alongside Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy. Sarkodie’s popularity in 2019 increased when he was awarded the Best International Flow at the BET Hip Hop Awards in October. He climaxed his legendary status in 2019 when BET released visuals of his incredibly amazing vintage flow on BET Cypher with French rapper Kalash to the delight of many hip hop fans around the world.

    3. Hit Single

2019 will be seen as one of the best years in Ghana music and for Sarkodie in particular. This is because the 2014 MTV MAMAs winner released one of the biggest songs in the year titled, Oofeetso.

    4. Hit Album

The ‘Black Love’ album, which has been reviewed by many music critics as one of the best studio albums by Sarkodie so far was released in 2019.The album after its release peaked at No. 1 on Top Albums iTunes – Ghana and No. 16 on Top Rap/Hip Hop Albums on iTunes – Worldwide.

  • Akufo-Addo is doing a good job but I really miss home – Sarkodie

Multi-awarded Rapper, Michael Owusu Addo known in music circles as Sarkodie, has lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his decisions to ensure the safety of Ghanaians both at home and abroad.

Although locked down in the United States of America following the closure of borders to curtail transmission of coronavirus in Ghana, Sarkodie strongly believes the travel restriction is in the interest of the entire nation.

Sending a solidarity message from his abode in the States to Ghanaians and his Sark natives, the ‘oofeetso’ hitmaker who has earned the accolade ‘The Highest’ appreciated the efforts undertaken by the Akufo-Addo administration in the fight of this life-threatening Coronavirus pandemic.

Sarkodie doffed his hat to the President and his team “for being on top of their game handling this COVID-19 situation. We all appreciate but I know it’s not going to be an easy fight, especially for a developing country like Ghana. A whole lot of resources will be needed. A whole lot of funds will be needed and I’m pretty sure the government will do their best. But I still feel, as a people, we need to support in our way cos it’s really not just gonna affect us; you know we have relatives that they are also at risk at the same time.”

This notwithstanding, the Rapper who is far away from home is already pining for a return as the mantra ‘home sweet home’ has swiftly caught up with him.

Yes, of course, there is nothing more peaceful and happier than a good, safe and secure home; therefore, Sarkodie is assuring all his music fans that he will be returning ASAP when the borders are finally open.

“I really do miss home but as much as I miss home, I totally understand these measures taken to control the pandemic for everyone’s safety.”

  • “Unless you have a feature with drake, the borders will remain closed” Ghanaians react to Sarkodie request on borders

Sarkodie tweeted at the president commending him for a good job done in handling the coronavirus situation in Ghana and pleaded with him to open the borders for a day to enable Ghanaians abroad to return home.

This request from Sarkodie sparked rage in netizens since he is expected to know better on what needs to be done to help eradicate the virus rather than exposing people to the virus.

Most people believe that he made that request to bring home his friend Pappy Kojo who is currently stranded in Italy.

Ghana currently has 1042 confirmed cases, 9 deaths and 99 recoveries. Opening the borders will increase further spread of the virus, a twitter user said.

Sarkodie says Ghanaians are selfish and individualistic in nature and that is reflected in the music industry hence its failure to globalize.

He made this known when he spoke to Dentaa on the “Dentaa Show”.

Tema-based rapper noted that the Nigerians made it a conscious effort to enter the global music market and therefore came together and through events they broke in the UK, USA and other bigger markets.

  • Sarkodie replies his former producer, King of Accra after he called him ungrateful, others

Former producer of Sarkodie, Nii Kommetey Commey affectionately called King Of Accra in a series of tweets earlier today made some damning allegation against the latter.

Among the many things King Of Accra decided to get off his chest, were claims that Sarkodie is ungrateful and that he failed to get any money when they were working together and as such, his decision to walk away from their relationship as colleagues.

King Of Accra also alleged that at the time they were working together, Jayso, another producer who was working with Sarkodie back then also tried to sue the BET award winner.

Well, it turns these claims of King Of Accra are ones Sarkodie is not entirely happy about.

In posts sighted on his Twitter/Facebook pages, he used a very popular Akan proverb which states “Ntesuo kokoo wo nipa anum nso yaa na gyae na ya te fitaa.. daakye asem nti” to make a very simple but clear message.

From our interpretation, what Sarkodie sought to imply is that even though he may have some serious revelations to make, he is compelled to hold back onto them for posterity seek.

Funny enough, many people suggested earlier that this tweet was a subtle reaction to all the drama that happened in relation to the legendary Zapp Mallet but it turns out that it is not really the case.

Anyway, if you have no idea who King of Accra is, he is one of the producers who worked with Sarkodie in 2009 till around 2015.

He produced the “You Already Know” single off the Sarkology album and also produced the hit singles “Daabi and This Game” for Sarkodie.

There is a current trend of music producers and musicians challenging each other to hits they have as a way of calming down nerves.

Sarkodie in this vain, decided to call on some award-winning music producers to also jump on this challenge in Ghana.

The rapper called on producers such as, Zapp Mallet, Jay Q, Appietus; Kaywa, Hammer, and MoG.

However, Zapp who was not happy for being paired by these young music producers taking into consideration how long he has been in the game and his contributionregistered his displeasure on his twitter page.

The legendary Sound engineer stated distastefully that, “There is something called respect which is lacking in Ghana today. For instance, you don’t compare somebody who was churning out hits before you made Kindergarten with your mate who just started a couple of years back. Show some respect, You will also get there”
