Rapperholic UK set to Rock Royal Albert Hall on March 6

Ghanaian rap superstar Sarkodie is set to headline Rapperholic UK at the legendary Royal Albert Hall on March 6, in a grand celebration of Ghana’s Independence Day.

In preparation for the event, Sarkodie visited the iconic venue, taking in its historic atmosphere and gearing up for what is expected to be a landmark performance.

Speaking to the BBC ahead of the concert, the award-winning rapper discussed the significance of the show and its role in promoting Ghanaian music on the international stage.

During a live Instagram session, he reassured fans that everything is on track for March 6. Sarkodie also expressed gratitude to Bizzle Entertainment and Kilimanjaro Live for their efforts in organizing the event.

Reflecting on his career journey, Sarkodie shared an Instagram post captioned: “Beautiful journey and I can only be thankful.”

With excitement mounting, Rapperholic UK promises more than just music—it will be a celebration of Ghanaian talent, resilience, and global influence.

Rapperholic has moved beyond Ghana to become one of Africa’s most respected hip-hop brands, known for delivering powerful live performances.

Music industry observers say selling out the Royal Albert Hall is a big deal, as the venue is known for its strict sound standards and refined audience.

Sarkodie’s ability to fill such a venue confirms his place as one of Africa’s top music acts on the world stage.

The date of the concert also makes it special.

By holding the show on Ghana’s Independence Day, Sarkodie has turned the concert into a proud celebration of Ghana’s talent and culture.

Creative arts experts see the sell-out as a strong sign of Ghana’s growing influence and the global demand for African music.

The show is expected to draw a wide mix of people, including Ghanaians living in the UK and hip-hop fans from different parts of the world.

The impact of the concert is also likely to benefit the UK economy, especially hotels and tourism, as fans from across Europe have reportedly bought tickets for the event.

As excitement builds, the rapper has been giving fans hints of a high-quality show, said to feature a live orchestra and surprise guest appearances from top UK and African artists.

For Ghana’s creative industry, this sold-out concert stands as an example for other artists, showing that with strong branding and consistency, performing on the world’s biggest stages is possible.

The concert was held on Saturday, 27, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. When the stadium was announced as the venue to host the concert, concerns were raised by football enthusiasts and stakeholders about the authority approving the concert to be held at the stadium when Ghana is preparing for an international match. Ghana has a mixed history when it comes to the quality of our pitches, with rare cases of consistent maintenance often from hosting football, concerts, and rallies. Lack of pitch covers, among others.

The Baba Yara pitch is undergoing renovations to meet CAF and FIFA standards, including turf upgrades and drainage improvements.

Hence, to address these concerns, the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, clarified that while his outfit has given the rapper the green light to host the concert at the stadium, he has been banned from extending his activities to the pitch itself.

Acknowledging the poor state of pitches in the Ghana government’s efforts to renovate and add to the number of stadiums nationwide, he explained that, “Sarkodie is prohibited from using the pitch to host the Rapperholic event. The pitch is important to us, and there is no way the event will be hosted on the pitch,” he said during an appearance on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

He continued that, while Sarkodie has explicitly been told to stay away from the pitch itself, he cautioned that sanctions would be applied if the arrangements were violated.

“We are aware that there is an agreement in place stating that a penalty or fine will be incurred should that happen, but we are not interested in pursuing that. There are no pitch covers, so we have to put measures in place to ensure that the pitch is safe,” he noted.

Sarkodie, responding to the NSA’s directive, took to his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to assure fans that, as he had been explicitly directed from the outset, he expressed his intention to host the concert at the stadium and would not break any rules.

“The rules were set from day 1, and we are not ready to break it (sic),” he said.

    When did Rapperholic start

The Rapperholic Concert was founded in 2012 to showcase Sarkodie’s music, celebrate Ghanaian rap, and thrill fans with exciting performances from both local and foreign artists. The concert is usually headlined by Sarkodie, who mostly gives opportunities to emerging rappers to perform. Rapperholic is mostly nothing short of an actual display of fashion and culture, with fans dressing in streetwear, among others.

    Sarkodie visits Otumfuor

Sarkodie visited Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia Palace to formally seek royal blessing for the Rapperholic Kumasi Edition. During the meeting, Otumfuo warmly welcomed Sarkodie’s initiative and said:

“They don’t allow me to go out often, but this one, I would like to attend and watch the event myself.”Sarkordie was there with his team to officially inform the King about the upcoming concert and also seek his blessings and consent.

Filling up a 5000-capacity should be the least of achievements for Sarkodie – DJ Slim

Popular DJ and radio personality DJ Slim has stated that while Sarkodie deserves credit for selling out UK’s 5000-capacity Royal Albert Hall, it is the least of achievement for him.

DJ Slim explains that  in a “proper industry”, such capacities should be the ceiling for emerging artistes, not a veteran like Sarkodie.

“I’m not saying he hasn’t done well; Sark has done well for him to sell out a 5000-capacity venue in the UK.”

“Sarkodie is bigger than a 5000-capacity venue. He is a stadium artiste… If at this point, we are still looking at 5000 and 6000 capacity as something we are settling on… Are we saying that it took one of our A-list artistes 15 years to sell out a 5000-capacity venue in the UK?” DJ Slim stated.

The Ghanaian rap icon Michael Owusu Addo, known globally as Sarkodie, sold out the legendary Royal Albert Hall in the UK.

The achievement comes just weeks before his headline concert, Rapperholic UK, set for March 6, 2026—a date that also marks Ghana’s 69th Independence Day.

The famous London venue, known for hosting some of the biggest names in music, will be packed to capacity with all 5,272 seats sold to fans ready to watch the “Landlord” of African rap perform live.

This success further proves Sarkodie’s status as a global cultural representative and shows the growing appetite for Ghanaian music among audiences abroad.

What started as a Christmas concert in Accra at the International Conference Centre more than ten years ago has now grown into a major international event.

Rapperholic has moved beyond Ghana to become one of Africa’s most respected hip-hop brands, known for delivering powerful live performances.

Sarkodie’s reverence embarrasses me, he should channel it to God – Obrafour

Legendary Ghanaian Obrafour has spoken about his discomfort when fellow rapper Sarkodie publicly shows him reverence, noting that Sarkodie is now a major brand in his own right.

While acknowledging his influence on Sarkodie’s musical journey, particularly with the song “Saa Okodie No,” Obrafour insists that such honour should be directed to God rather than himself.

“Sarkodie is huge but anytime he sees me and wants to kneel before me, it sometimes embarrasses me. I ask myself, who am I for Sarkodie to lie on the floor for me?

“If I had it my way, I would channel that respect to the Maker. When I first met him, I told him who he was and what God was going to do with him,” Obrafour expressed in a video shared on TikTok on January 19, 2026.

Months ago, Obrafour has lauded Sarkodie for his respectful conduct towards his seniors in the music industry.

“It is unmatched, I’ve not seen some before. I am not saying this to praise him, but I love him for his work rate. However, I don’t know if it is like that till date. When I met him, he used to record a song a day and that is why he has a massive catalogue.”

“He is very respectful, and that is a trait I am yet to see in other colleagues of his,” he told Code Micky.

Sarkodie thrilled fans with a unique, exciting entry at his just-ended Rapperholic concert in Kumasi over the weekend.

Despite the delays in the commencement time of the concert, his legendary entrance to the stage melted any possible disappointment or anger.

It began with a poetic prelude where the poet praised Sarkodie as one whose glory cannot be boxed or hidden, a reference to his kingship, his heritage as the son of the Ashanti Kingdom, highlighting his well-known title “Landlord”, positioning not just a rapper, but a voice of heritage.

The speaker invoked the spirit of Kumasi and the Ashanti Kingdom, framing Sarkodie’s homecoming as a symbolic return to the source of his strength. One of the lines of the poet was her praise for Sarkodie as one who “ does not just rhyme, but remembers. He does not just perform, he preserves,” she delivered her rich culture and praise-loaded poem for Sarkodie, with the Ashanti Flag projected on the huge LED screens behind her.

As the poem ended, Sarkodie’s nickname “Obidi” blazed across the stage in flaming letters, followed by a glowing crown that hovered above, symbolising his reign in Ghanaian rap.

Following the grand display before the ‘landlord’s’ appearance on stage, it began to rain; however, the downpour didn’t dampen the fans’ energy, and they stayed put until Sarkodie appeared.

He finally showed, opening the stage with his “Original” song in which he addresses critics, cementing his reputation as a pioneer and not a product of hype. His journey through the rap journey with a line in the song which says, “I didn’t come to fit in, I came to stand out.”

He was surprised on stage by dancehall artist Shatta Wale, whose appearance was welcomed with loud and explosive cheers by fans. The duo performed their decade-old song “Megye Wo Girl”.

Sarkodie playfully shoved Shatta Wale as he joined him on stage, and their chemistry was electrifying, making it a highlight of the night.

Then followed Sarkodie’s performance with legendary rapper Obrafour. The landlord had to pause the high-energy flow to introduce Obrafour, calling him “the reason I rap”. As a sign of respect, he knelt before Obrafour on stage, a deeply emotional moment that drew cheers and chants of “legend, legend!” from the crowd. They performed a remix of “Oye Ohene”.

Kweku Flick joined Sarkodie on stage while they performed their song “Yɛbɛyɛ Fine”, which translates to “We’ll be fine” in Twi. They both moved in sync with dancers dressed in streetwear fused with traditional prints.

The current Kumasi star, King Paluta, thrilled fans with their “Africa We Dey” song. Sarkodie opened with a verse on unity and struggle, then passed the mic to Paluta, who unleashed rapid-fire Twi bars.

Other artists that showed up at the concert were Medikal, who did a solo performance marked with a playful moment chasing Shatta Wale on stage.

Efya, Gyakie, Kofi Kinaata, Olive The Boy, Donzy, Oseikrom SikaniJay Bahd, Ypee, Beeztrap KOTM, Skyface SDW, Kwesi Amewuga, Lalid, Kofi Jamar, among other acts. Some fans were also invited on stage to freestyle live.

  • You won’t believe Shatta Wale pushed me to sing in my records – Sarkodie

You won’t believe Shatta Wale pushed me to sing in my records – Sarkodie

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has acknowledged Dancehall King Shatta Wale’s role in pushing him to sing more on his songs.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Hitz FM, Sarkodie said he would not have taken that direction on his own, crediting Shatta Wale for influencing the shift.

“The person who influenced me to do more (of singing in my records)…funny enough, you will never think about is Shatta Wale. I have done about three songs and where I sang. There was one that I didn’t rap at all. I sang throughout. But I am very uncomfortable with it because I will write it but its difficult for me to record it and make it public,” he revealed.

Shatta Wale and Sarkodie seem to be rubbing each others back for varrying successes in their worlds of music and personal lives.

In October, Shatta Wale rendered apologies to Rapper Sarkodie and his wife Tracy for failing to withhold what was meant to be a secret.

According to him, Sarkodie bought eight cars to support his transport business, called Shaxi, and the rapper trusted him to keep the information away from the public.

Unfortunately, Shatta Wale appeared on TikTok live on October 10, to disclose the information to Ghanaians while hailing the rapper as a “genuine industry player.”

“When he bought the car, he told me not to tell anybody, but I told him we all have to support each other. I know he won’t be happy that I have said this on live.

“Tracy is my baby. We are sorry for entering his (Sark) account. I am sure Tracy would ask why he didn’t inform her that he wanted to purchase cars for me. Shoutout to the Sark natives,” he added.

In 2024, Shatta Wale revealed that he invested over $2 million into his ride-hailing service, Shaxi, which was launched in 2023.

His decision, he explained, was driven by a desire to create jobs and support individuals rather than spending on personal luxuries.

“I wanted to make extra money to support people. Why else would I start a business?” Shatta Wale stated, reflecting on his motivation.

He highlighted that instead of indulging in personal luxuries like Lamborghinis or Rolls Royces, he directed $2.2 million into Shaxi. This investment covered app development, acquiring a fleet of mini cars, and promotional activities.

Despite his public persona, Shatta Wale emphasized his compassionate nature and underscored the importance of community support. Shaxi, a portmanteau of “Shatta” and “taxi,” aims not only to compete with other ride-sharing services but also to contribute positively to Ghanaian society by providing employment opportunities, particularly for youth and fans of his music.

In May this year, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) met with the Shatta Wale, the CEO of SHAXI—a ride-hailing platform established in 2021—for a youth employment partnership.

This strategic partnership with SHAXI will create thousands of jobs for Ghanaian youth who remain unemployed or seek better job opportunities.

As part of this collaboration, YEA will support the first 2,000 vehicles that subscribe to the SHAXI platform with GHC500 worth of fuel coupons every month for six months.

“This bold move is designed to ease the operational cost for drivers and encourage more youth participation in the transport business,” YEA noted.

SHAXI vehicles that operate on a 24-hour basis will receive additional incentives. This ensures that at least two young people can be employed per vehicle, working in shifts, and maximizing both income and job creation potential.

YEA noted that “this is a true game-changer in public-private collaboration where innovation and star power are used to drive real impact in youth employment!”

On his part, Shatta Wale noted that he is open to making more investments in the tech industry to provide more jobs to the youth.

This is not the first initiative being taken by YEA; in April this year, the agency entered a one-year agreement with SoccaBet Ghana to create 500 job placements.

Also, the agency, in partnership with the Ghana Fire Service, will recruit 5,000 young Ghanaians as fire assistants across the country.

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the Ghana Police Service have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to recruit 12,000 young individuals across the country to serve as Community Police Assistants (CPAs).

Speaking at the signing ceremony on Monday, May 19, at the Ministry of Interior, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of YEA, Malik Basintale, noted that the government’s priority is not solely about creating job opportunities but “involving our youth in building safer communities.”

“We are here today because we have found some 12,000 jobs within the Ghana Police Service. Every day and anytime I wake up, the first thing that comes to mind is where I can find jobs for young people out there.”

“His Excellency the President is always willing to hear the number of jobs that have been found and delivered to young people. Today, we have found 12,000 more jobs for young people out there, and we are ready to exhibit in the coming days,” he added.

I unknowingly ate marijuana and performed poorly on stage at a US concert – Sarkodie

Celebrated Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has shared details of what he describes as his ‘worst performance’ after unknowingly chewing a biscuit containing marijuana to perform at a US concert

The rapper told Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM,  while performing, the music felt unusually slow to him, even though the audience later told him he delivered a strong performance.

“That’s the worst performance I’ve ever had. Because in my head all the songs sounded slow,” he noted.

Sarkodie and his manager had eaten biscuits from a hamper that contained marijuana, but they were unaware of it.

“I got to my hotel they had a hamper for me. And I had no idea what the hamper was. It has drinks, biscuits and everything. I took bites of the biscuits when I was hungry not knowing it had marijuana, and I have not taken marijuana before. Angel finished his and came for more from me,” he said.

At this point Sarkodie said he realized they were both laughing unusually about events that were not even funny.

The ‘Highest’ hitmaker further disclosed that he became convinced that all was not well when he asked members of his team the distance between where he was seated backstage and the real stage.

He asserted that, artists also experience moments where patrons are satisfied with their performance but personally, they do not feel they did well on stage.

The ‘Highest” hitmaker is gearing up for what promises to be one of the biggest shows of the festive season as he prepares for his Rapperholic 2025 concert on 25 December at the Grand Arena in Accra.

The annual event, a staple of Ghana’s Detty December celebrations, is expected to draw music lovers from across the country and beyond to celebrate the holiday with high‑energy performances and memorable moments.

In the lead‑up to the concert, Sarkodie has been actively promoting the show, with tickets already selling fast and fans expressing excitement on social media about his return to the Christmas stage. Organisers have scheduled the event to start in the evening at the Grand Arena, transforming the venue into a festive hub of music, dance, and entertainment.

As part of his preparations, Sarkodie has also been reflecting on the physical and mental demands of performing during the busy season. In a recent interview, he opened up about the pressures artists face during big events like Rapperholic and acknowledged the importance of managing his health and energy ahead of the show.

Sarkodie has announced that in 2026, his annual concert, Rapperholic, will be held for the first time in the United Kingdom.

He shared the news during Fameye’s London concert on November 9, 2025, where he surprised the crowd with the update and assured fans that he won’t be coming alone.

“Next year, we are bringing Rapperholic here. You’re going to see Sarkodie, Black Sherif, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, R2Bees,” Sarkodie told the excited audience while on stage.

He added that the 2026 edition will feature some of the biggest artistes in Ghana, such as Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Black Sherif, among others.

Sarkodie thrilled fans with a unique, exciting entry at his this year’s Rapperholic concert in Kumasi.

  • I wanted to be a business woman or a lawyer – Celestine Donkor

I wanted to be a business woman or a lawyer – Celestine Donkor

Gospel musician Celestine Donkor revealed that she originally aspired to pursue a career in business or law, rather than music.

However, after hearing her sing at home, her mother recognized her musical talent and began introducing her to opportunities that ultimately helped her build a name and establish a niche in the gospel music industry.

“The plan was to be a businesswoman or to study law, but I ended up doing music,” she said in a one-on-one interview with Lekzy Decomic on Joy Prime’s prime time show.

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie also revealed a couple of years ago that he had dreams of becoming a medical doctor.

According to Sarkodie, he would have aspired for a career in the medical field if his music career had not kicked off. Being a multitalented person, he added that he also had plans of putting his other talents to use.

“First, I wanted to be a doctor, I do arts; I paint, I sketch. So definitely something towards that direction…” he told NandoLeaks when asked about his passion aside music.

Sarkodie mentioned that coming up as an artiste, his mother gave him an ultimatum about his career.

He stated that his mother gave him up to a year to prove himself or get back to pursuing his education.

“She acted just like a regular African parent… they care about your future; they think their decision is the best for you. So I was lucky she gave me one year to prove myself and that was the same year that things started picking up. I was lucky. If it had skipped into the next year maybe I wouldn’t be sitting here with you,” he added.

Award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, popularly known as Amerado, has revealed that his decision to pursue music was driven by the need to survive, rather than fame.

“The main reason I got into music was to survive—I just wanted to eat,” he admitted. “Most of the time, I don’t even enjoy being an artiste,” he told  DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz.

According to him, he is also bothered by the constant pressure to give out money to fans, especially while stuck in traffic.

“I feel restricted,” he said. “Whenever you’re in public, especially in traffic, you’re expected to hand out money to fans.”

Despite the challenges he faces as an artist, Amerado says that his stage performances are nothing short of fulfilling.

However, “The maintenance no be easy,” he added, stressing the demands and expectations that follow the life of a musician.

Two years ago, the “Grace” rapper mentioned to Graphic Showbiz that he would never quit music to chase his academic dreams.

At the time, he was a first-year student reading Political Science at the University of Ghana, Legon, where he acknowledged the huge demands of education but stressed that it would never influence him to shelve his music pursuit.

“…I am never going to drop music. There’s no way I will quit music. No, not at all. I may give more time to my academics when school is in session and concentrate on music when we are on recess,” he said.

Speaking on pursuing other career paths, the rapper mentioned that he will pursue politics as long as it doesn’t affect his music career negatively.

“I believe music business works hand in hand with politics because in both ventures, we are always working to convince people to become our core followers. Once I realise politics won’t hurt my music career, I will go into it,” he said.

Amerado is known for songs such as Grace, Obiaa Boa, Sin No More, Metua, Back 2 Sender , Kwaku Ananse, Abotr3, among others.

In  2023, the musician made history by becoming the first rapper to win the Best Rapper award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Award (VGMA), which has now been rebranded as Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs.

He was optimistic that his song, “Ankonam,” would win Reggae Song of the Year at the 2025 VGMAs, however, he lost it to Stonebwoy.

Meanwhile, he earned five nominations at the 2023 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) in the categories of Hiplife/Hiphop Artiste of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, Collaboration of the Year, Best Lyrical Performer of the Year and Hiphop Song of the Year.

Nigerian music executive and Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy, has shared how focusing on music cost him a marriage.

He made this admission during his appearance on the Echo Podcast, aired on September 26. Reflecting on what he believes he almost lost in his pursuit of success, Don Jazzy pointed to marriage.

He explained that he had always imagined being married by forty, yet at forty-two, he remains unmarried. While he is open to marriage if the opportunity arises, he stressed that it is not something that keeps him up at night.

“I never thought that I’d be 40-something and not be married when I was growing up. So I’ll say maybe I already lost that one. But don’t mind me. I’m not even interested in this very moment. It’s not like I’m not interested, but it doesn’t bother me like that. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t come, I’m totally fine,” he said.

Asked what he would have become if he hadn’t been a musician and producer, he responded that he would still have been in the music industry as a manager or

“Maybe I would have still been in the music industry, maybe as a manager, still the same thing. Or now, I’ll probably be an investment banker. Or maybe a footballer. I’m a Man U fan. But now I like forex trading. I saw the Bitcoin, crypto, I saw when you were praying for Bitcoin. It’s just that I always want to know what’s next. I’m inquisitive”, he noted.

  • Sarkodie to host 2026 Rapperholic concert in the United Kingdom

Sarkodie to host 2026 Rapperholic concert in the United Kingdom

Despite the delays in the concert’s commencement time, his legendary entrance to the stage melted any possible disappointment or anger.

    About Rapperholic 2025

  • I have disappointed Sarkodie, he should forgive me – Shatta Wale

I have disappointed Sarkodie, he should forgive me – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian Dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, rendered apologies to Rapper Sarkodie and his wife Tracy for failing to withhold what was meant to be a secret.

Obrafour lauds Sarkodie’s unmatched discipline and respect for senior artists

Ghanaian Rapper Obrafour has lauded Sarkodie for his respectful conduct towards his seniors in the music industry.

He was surprised on stage by dancehall artist Shatta Wale, whose appearance was welcomed with loud and explosive cheers by fans. The duo performed their decade-old song “Megye Wo Girl”.

  • I could not afford a thing while shopping with Memphis, Dembélé – Sarkodie

I could not afford a thing while shopping with Memphis, Dembélé – Sarkodie

Rapper Sarkodie has revealed that he could not afford a thing when he went shopping with Memphis and Dembélé.

Ousmane Dembélé is a 2025 Ballon d’Or winner while Memphis Depay is a Dutch-Ghanaian star.

In an interview on Lawson TV, the rapper explained that during one of their meetups in New York, Depay showed up with PSG forward Ousmane Dembélé and the three of them decided to go shopping

“Memphis is a very close friend of mine; he’s like a brother. We actually have a song together that hasn’t been released yet. During our meetup, he was accompanied by Dembélé. We went shopping together in New York.”

“I realized how much the two football stars were spending, which made me decide not to pick up anything in the store. With people like them, it’s best to have a conversation and leave the place quickly,” Sarkodie said.

Kumawood Actor,Yaw Adu, popularly known as Sumsum Ahuofe leveled some damning accusations at multiple award-winning Rapper, Sarkodie of being stingy and arrogant.

Sumsum made these allegations in an interview with Kofi Adoma on Kofi TV.

According to the comic Actor,he had an unpleasant encounter with Sarkodie when he tried exchanging pleasantries with the latter but he was reluctant to talk to him or even shake his outstretched hand.

He disclosed that, Dancehall Artistes,Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale are more easy-going.

Responding to this, Sarkodie insisted that his reluctance to give money isn’t out of selfishness.

Speaking on the +444 Podcast, which aired on X on February 26, 2025, Sarkodie revealed that some relatives and acquaintances take offense when he declines their financial requests, even if he believes they are unwarranted.

He clarified that his decision to offer financial assistance is based on necessity rather than obligation, emphasizing that he only provides support when he deems it genuinely justified.

“I’ll see what I can do” – Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie jokingly on how he tells people no, when they ask him for money. He however cleared it up that he’s straight with his no, to an extent where some people are offended by it. pic.twitter.com/pBirHzxoCW— SIKAOFFICIAL🦍 (@SIKAOFFICIAL1) February 26, 2025

I always say, ‘I will see what I can do’ when people ask me for money. I am very straightforward about that. My family keeps telling me that my ‘no’ is so firm that they feel offended. You can ask me for a thousand dollars, and I would say no, but you can ask for fifteen, and I will send it. It depends on what you say and what you need the money for. If I can’t help, of course, I will tell you I can’t do it, he added.

Sarkodie also shared how he lost a friendship due to his refusal to offer financial help.

“If someone is mad at you because of that, it means they were not meant to be in your life. There was an incident way back when I had no money. I was just starting my career, and after earning a little, I spent my last money on myself.

I had nothing left, but I knew I could go to the bank later. Then, a guy walked in and asked for money because he wanted to travel. I told him I didn’t have any, but he refused to believe me. Since then, we have not been on talking terms”, he recounted.

Nigerian comedian Sabinus has sparked a dynamic debate with his recent video, where he delves into the unexpected virtues of adopting a stingy approach to life.

In a departure from conventional narratives, Sabinus shares how saying ‘no’ to the demands of others has remarkably improved his overall well-being.

According to him, embracing this mindset has not only left him feeling fresher but also contributed to a healthier lifestyle.

This unconventional perspective on personal finance and self-care challenges the common notion that generosity is always a virtue.

Sabinus suggests that setting boundaries on one’s generosity can be a form of self-preservation, fostering a healthier and more balanced life.

While his message has sparked diverse reactions, with some critics expressing concern about discouraging potential support for others, Sabinus stands by his belief that prioritizing personal boundaries can lead to overall well-being.

Taking a humorous turn, Sabinus revisited incidents from 2022, addressing rumors about the value of his house, estimated at 100 million Naira.

He playfully debunked those rumors, highlighting the economic situation and emphasizing his modest lifestyle.

Additionally, he reflected on an incident where he replaced his Benz with a new white Mercedes Benz GLE after an accident.

This experience prompts him to advocate for insurance, using his platform to stress the importance of safeguarding one’s properties.

The Asantehene made this known during a visit by rap legend, Michael Ofosu Addo, known in the showbiz world as Sarkodie, and his management team at the Manhyia Palace on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Sarkordie was there with his team to officially inform the King about the upcoming concert and also seek his blessings and consent.

After advising the rapper and his team to stay humble, he said he’s happy to attend the event if invited.

The Rapperholic Concert usually happens every year on December 25 in Accra. It has been held for twelve years in a row and is one of the biggest shows in December.

Away from the upcoming concert, the multiple award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie, has shared how his song, ‘Goodbye’, was composed.

According to him, the idea and the inspiration for the lyrics came to him while at his mum’s kitchen.

“Wrote this particular song in my mums kitchen (Tema),” Sarkodie tweeted in response to a video of a lady jamming to infectious rythms and lyrics of the 2019 song.

‘Goodbye’ is a track from Sarkodie’s 2012 album Rapperholic and was produced by Kill Beatz and features Mugeez.

The song tells a touching story with a focus on love, regret, and separation.

Ghanaian musician Keddi expressed heartfelt appreciation to Sarkodie for supporting his music career.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, Keddi shared that Sarkodie boosted his visibility by promoting his song across multiple social media platforms shortly after he released it.

“After I posted it, like a day or two, and then King Sark posted it on his IG, X, and Facebook, and then it went viral, so I’m really grateful to King Sark for what he has done for me,” he said.

Keddi said he was both surprised and honoured when Sarkodie not only shared the track but also called it his “new favorite” in a tweet.

Turning to a different artiste, over the years and to date, Sarkodie has received admiration from many Ghanaians and across the globe.

He has been hailed as a source of inspiration for numerous artists and music enthusiasts across Africa.

More than two million people packed Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach to watch Lady Gaga perform a free concert — the biggest show of her career so far, according to city officials.

The concert, funded by the city government, was part of a campaign to boost the local economy. Officials estimate the event could bring in around $100 million (about £75 million) in economic activity for Rio.

Held on Saturday, the performance was part of Lady Gaga’s global tour promoting her eighth studio album, Mayhem, which features songs like Abracadabra and Die With a Smile. It also marked her return to Brazil after more than a decade — her last performance there was in 2012.

Dedicated fans, known as her “Little Monsters,” began lining up early in the morning and waited in long queues to secure spots on the beach.

Security at the event was tight. Around 5,000 police officers were deployed, and attendees had to pass through metal detectors. Authorities also used drones and facial recognition technology to ensure safety.

Lady Gaga joins a growing list of global stars who’ve performed for free in Rio. Just last year, Madonna also drew a massive crowd for a city-sponsored concert at the same venue.

“You waited for me, you waited for more than 10 years for me,” an emotional Lady Gaga told the crowds as she unfurled a Brazilian flag.

“Brazil, I’m ready. I’m going to give it my all.”

Lady Gaga thrilled fans by wearing Brazil-inspired outfits during parts of her performance, including costumes that paid tribute to the national football team.

The energy on Copacabana Beach was electric as thousands of fans sang along to her biggest hits like Alejandro, Poker Face, and Abracadabra. Many waved rainbow-colored fans and watched the show on giant screens set up along the beach.

People came from all over Brazil to be part of the historic event. One fan, 28-year-old Luan Messias, shared that he took an overnight bus from Itanhaém, a city in the neighboring state of São Paulo, just to attend the concert.

Alisha Duarte, 22, told AFP news agency she started queuing at 0740 in the morning. “Lady Gaga is worth it! It’s going to get super crowded, but we’ll survive,” she said.

Another fan, Paulo Oliveira, explained why people were so excited about the concert. She “tells us that we can be who we are, that we can be different and that being different is cool,” he told Reuters.

It’s going to be an “unforgettable show”, concert attendee Lai Borges told Reuters on her way in. “It’s going to be emotional and I’m going to cry a lot,” she said.

As the event drew to a close, Lady Gaga told the audience – in a reference to the nickname for Lady Gaga fans – “we are monsters and monsters never die,” and she brought the concert to a close with Bad Romance, perhaps her most famous song.

Court adjourns Sarkodie’s lawsuit against Ecobank to July 25

The Accra High Court has adjourned the hearing of Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie’s lawsuit against Ecobank Ghana PLC over what he describes as a misrepresentation of him in an anti-fraud campaign.

3Music TV reported that the court has set July 25 to hear the case.

The rap icon Sarkodie initiated legal action against Ecobank Ghana and a man bearing a striking resemblance to him.

He accused the financial institution of exploiting his image without consent.

According to court documents, Sarkodie contends that Ecobank featured his lookalike in an advertisement he considers misleading and damaging.

He argued that the portrayal gave the public the impression he was affiliated with or endorsing the bank, despite being a brand ambassador for rival institution First Bank.

Sarkodie’s legal team asserted that the misrepresentation did not only confuse consumers but also compromised existing commercial relationships and tarnished his brand value.

Sarkodie is seeking the following from the court:

    • A permanent injunction restraining Ecobank from using his image, name, or any similar likeness in future advertisements.
    • Monetary compensation for the reputational harm and financial losses incurred.
    • An immediate removal of all promotional materials that feature his lookalike.

His lawyers insist that the use of a lookalike, particularly of a high-profile figure with active endorsements, is unethical and a violation of publicity rights.

Ecobank was served and given eight days to respond to the suit or face a possible default judgment.

Over the years and to date, Sarkodie has received admiration from many Ghanaians and across the globe.

He has been hailed as a source of inspiration for numerous artists and music enthusiasts across Africa.

Recently, Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale labeled Michael Owusu Addo, known as Sarkodie, the greatest rapper in the country’s history.

He explained that while Samuel Adu Frimpong, known as Medikal, remains his favourite rapper, he believes Sarkodie tops the chart of musicians with consistency and lyrical excellence.

“My favourite rapper is Medikal. His music is for Gen Z, but if we are talking about the best of all time, I would give it to Sarkodie,” Shatta Wale stated.

In 2012, Sarkodie continued his success with his Rapperholic album, securing 12 nominations and winning three awards, including ‘Artiste of the Year’ and ‘Most Popular Song of the Year’ for “U Go Kill Me.”

Although he missed out on the Artiste of the Year nomination in 2013, Sarkodie began an impressive streak starting in 2014, with his Sarkology album earning eight nominations.

Since then, he has consistently been a major contender, especially in the Artiste of the Year category.

However, 2025 marks the year he has been absent from that category.

Despite missing out on the top honour, Sarkodie has earned other nominations at the awards, including Best Hiplife Song, Best Rap Performance, Best Hiphop Song, and Best Hiplife/Hiphop Song.

  • Sarkodie, E.L, and Medikal are the only Ghanaian artistes who inspire me – Tulenkey

Sarkodie, E.L, and Medikal are the only Ghanaian artistes who inspire me – Tulenkey

Ghanaian rapper, Tulenkey, has indicated that there are only three artistes in Ghana he draws inspiration from.

For him, foreign rappers such as Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West are at the top of his list of inspiration because of their creativity in storytelling.

However, in Ghana, he may consider some three artistes who may fall into the category of persons he looks up to.

“Honestly speaking, most rappers don’t inspire me in Ghana. But the people who I would say inspire me in this country are Sarkodie, E.L., and Medikal.

“Elsewhere I will say Kendrick Lamar and Kenya West. I am in a different wave, so I don’t listen to Drake. I address issues, so I don’t listen to Drake. And one thing about Kendrick is he makes rap educational and also entertaining,” he said in an interview on TV3’s Showbiz 360, shared on X on June 6.

The rapper has also said that he is learning to be self-motivated and not allow the lack of recognition for his music to hold him back.

His comment comes on the back of his assertion that his music has been underrated and underappreciated.

He believes that the type of music he puts out and the type of ratings he gets are not at par.

Tulenkey has, however, found hope in the fact that he is hardworking and will just keep up with that.

“I just have to believe in what I’m doing and I don’t have to wait for anyone’s validation,” he told Headless YouTuber on YouTube.

The “Bad Feeling” rapper recounted the investment he has made into his Doomsday EP, expressing surprise at the lack of recognition it received despite the effort.

“I remember the Doomsday EP, let’s be realistic, I sat down one full month, I wanted to make a statement, I took my time to pay attention to every bar and I put it out there, but that thing where you were expecting some kind of reception so when I didn’t get that reception I felt…at the end of the day you can do something normal and they would like,” he shared.

Stop playing my music – Medikal warns TV3 over disrespect to Sarkodie

Rapper Medikal has lashed out at TV3, instructing the media house to pull his songs from all their platforms following what he described as a blatant show of disrespect toward Sarkodie.

The heated reaction stems from a discussion aired on TV3, where a guest dismissed Sarkodie’s career while analysing which Ghanaian artists are Grammy-worthy. The remark didn’t sit well with Medikal, who quickly jumped to the defence of the renowned rapper.

Taking to X, Medikal didn’t mince words as he blasted the network’s production team and demanded that they refrain from airing any of his music henceforth.

“Dumbass station, stupid ass admin, foolish boy! Nonsense camera man, everybody for TV3 ein moda! Make una no play my music again. Kwasiafoɔ, ehiafoɔ, mboa!” he ranted.

His outburst adds to the growing criticism of media houses that have recently come under fire for allowing disrespectful commentary on air. Just weeks ago, Max TV was also slammed after guests made disparaging comments about singer Cina Soul.

Medikal’s stance reinforces calls for more respectful and constructive discourse within entertainment media.

Shatta Wale ridicules Sarkodie over new haircut after meeting with at club

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has surprised fans with a brand-new look, swapping his signature thick hair for a neat lowcut.

His fresh hairstyle caught the attention of dancehall star Shatta Wale at an event, where he appeared visibly puzzled by the change.

In a viral video, Shatta Wale was seen staring at Sarkodie in surprise as the rapper seemingly explained his new style.

Sarkodie, who previously rocked thick hair with a fade on the sides, has now opted for a much shorter cut. His new hairstyle features lightly trimmed hair in the middle, a subtle fade on the sides, and a curved line in the corner. He has also shaved off his signature goatee, keeping only a small mustache.

Both musicians showed up to the event dressed in black, with Shatta Wale completing his outfit with a cap.

While the haircut itself has sparked reactions, many social media users were even more surprised to see the two artists together in a friendly manner, considering their history of conflicts.

Sarkodie and Shatta Wale have had a rocky relationship over the years. In 2018, Sarkodie responded to Shatta Wale’s criticism with a diss track titled My Advice, in which he strongly called out the dancehall star.

After releasing the diss track, Sarkodie distanced himself from Shatta Wale, later explaining that he found the dancehall artist’s social media comments disrespectful. He said that as a friend, he would have preferred private conversations instead of public criticism.

Shatta Wale, however, insisted that their rivalry was all part of the entertainment industry.

He repeatedly claimed that Sarkodie should not take their exchanges personally, as the back-and-forth actually benefits them both.

At one point, Shatta Wale even accused Sarkodie of being a hypocrite. This happened after the rapper congratulated him on his collaboration with Beyoncé, with Shatta Wale suggesting that the praise was not genuine.

A video circulating on social media has captured a moment at businessman Richard Nii-Armah Quaye’s 40th birthday celebration, where rapper Ayigbe Edem was prevented from reaching Sarkodie.

The grand event, held at Independence Square on March 22, 2025, featured performances from some of Ghana’s top musicians, including Sarkodie, who took the stage to entertain the crowd.

In the viral footage, Edem is seen attempting to get Sarkodie’s attention as he made his way to the main stage.

However, the rapper’s bodyguards swiftly intervened, blocking Edem’s approach.

The incident, which appeared to have happened on the blindside of Sarkodie, has sparked debate online.

While some social media users criticized the bodyguard’s actions, others defended them, arguing that he was simply carrying out his duty.

As fans gear up for the highly anticipated 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), the nomination list has been unveiled, sparking excitement across the industry.

However, amid the buzz, one notable absence has caught many by surprise—Sarkodie is missing from the ‘Artiste of the Year’ category for the first time in a decade.

Sarkodie is surprisingly missing from the category, sparking reactions online.

While some may not see this as an issue, it is a major surprise for many, as this marks the first time the ‘Illuminati’ hitmaker has not been nominated in this prestigious category in ten years.

Sarkodie earned his first nomination at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) in 2010, with his debut album ‘Makye’ earning him eight nominations and five awards, including the coveted ‘Artiste of the Year’ and ‘Discovery of the Year’ awards.

In 2012, Sarkodie continued his success with his Rapperholic album, securing 12 nominations and winning three awards, including ‘Artiste of the Year’ and ‘Most Popular Song of the Year’ for “U Go Kill Me.”

Despite missing out on the top honour, Sarkodie earned other nominations at the awards, including Best Hiplife Song, Best Rap Performance, Best Hiphop Song, and Best Hiplife/Hiphop Song.

The TGMA 2025 nominee announcement, held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, March 15, 2025, saw the declaration of various artistes including Kweku Smoke, Team Eternity, Joe Mettle, King Paluta, King Promise, Stonebwoy, and Black Sherif, as contenders for the prestigious ‘Artiste of the Year’ category.

The grand awards ceremony is set for May 3, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Before the main event, a pre-party on May 2 will gather nominees and key industry figures for networking and conversations.

Additionally, the nominees’ jam, popularly called the TGMA Xperience, is slated for Saturday, April 5, 2025.

  • My wife was nicer to me than I expected – Sarkodie on Yvonne Nelson’s ‘exposé’

My wife was nicer to me than I expected – Sarkodie on Yvonne Nelson’s ‘exposé’

Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has opened up about how his wife, Tracy Owusu-Addo, supported him after actress Yvonne Nelson publicly detailed their past affair.

In 2023, Yvonne Nelson published her memoir, I Am Not Yvonne Nelson, in which she alleged that Sarkodie mistreated her during their relationship, which resulted in an unwanted pregnancy. She further claimed that he abandoned her when she had to undergo an abortion.

However, speaking on the Way Up podcast, shared on X on March 9, 2025, Sarkodie disclosed that his wife was more concerned about his well-being than the social media backlash.

“To be honest, I don’t want to speak about that, but she handled it in a way I didn’t expect. She was cool and cared more about how I was feeling. She kept checking on me because I was on tour, and that was her main concern,” he said.

Explaining why he never publicly responded to the allegations, Sarkodie said he only addresses matters that impact his career positively.

“The reason I don’t speak is that I believe nobody is worth my response, which has always been my stance. If it’s something that benefits me, I’ll respond.

“But most of the time, the people talking about Sarkodie are not worth my response. I ask myself, ‘Is it worth going back and forth with these people?’” he added.

Video: I’m not stingy, people just don’t like my response when they ask for money” – Sarkodie

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has addressed widespread claims that he is “stingy,” insisting that his reluctance to give money isn’t out of selfishness.

“My ‘no’ is so firm that my family feels offended” – Sarkodie

Renowned Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has addressed public perceptions of his spending habits, revealing that his firm stance on financial assistance has often left his family members feeling offended.

Speaking on the +444 podcast, the award-winning musician shared that he does not freely hand out money, even to close relatives, unless he finds their situation genuinely troubling.

“I always say, ‘I will see what I can do’ when people ask me for money. I am very straightforward about that. My family keeps telling me that my ‘no’ is so firm that they feel offended,” Sarkodie stated.

He explained that his decisions are based on necessity rather than emotions, emphasizing that he evaluates each request before deciding whether to provide financial support.

“You can ask me for a thousand dollars, and I would say no, but you can ask for fifteen, and I will send it. It depends on what you say and what you need the money for. If I can’t help, of course, I will tell you I can’t do it,” he added.

The rapper also recounted an incident where he lost a friendship due to his refusal to offer financial aid. According to him, a friend had asked for money to travel, but at the time, he had none to spare. His refusal, however, led to a fallout, and they have not spoken since.

“If someone is mad at you because of that, it means they were not meant to be in your life,” Sarkodie reflected.

His comments come amid long-standing social media debates about his perceived unwillingness to give out money, a claim he has continuously dismissed.

‘Hye me bo’ is my longest project so far; took me a year to record

Ghanaian singer Akwaboah has opened up about the lengthy process of creating his hit song, Hye Me Bo. He shared that it took him more than a year to finish the track, making it his longest project to date.

During an interview on Hitz FM, Akwaboah explained that songwriting usually comes easily to him, depending on his mood. However, crafting love songs takes more time and care to make sure they connect with real emotions.

While most of his popular songs are recorded within two to three months, he shared that Hye Me Bo was different. It required him to dive deep into his feelings, ensuring the song truly captured what was in his heart.

“It’s not just a song,” Akwaboah explained. “It took getting deep into my emotions. It comes with a vibe, and then you start writing depending on how you feel. You really need to talk to yourself to get it done.”

He acknowledged that his need for perfection caused delays in the process. Whenever the lyrics didn’t feel right, he would pause and come back later to make sure every line was just right.

In the end, the song turned out to be exactly what he wanted—a true reflection of his feelings and fears, while celebrating the beauty of love. It touches on his fear of love, shaped by seeing his father’s painful experiences. But after experiencing love for himself, he found its sweetness and promised to create lasting memories of it.

The masterpiece was recorded during Akwaboah’s time under Sarkcess Music, six years ago. Since its release, Hye Me Bo has garnered over 1.4 million views and 12,000 likes on YouTube.

‘You all should let him be!’ – Showboy descends on Sarkodie’s critics after gari soakings post

Ghanaian socialite Samuel Safo, also known as Showboy, has expressed support for rapper Sarkodie following his recent “Back to Gari Soakings” comment on social media.

In a video posted online, Showboy stated that the “No Sir” hitmaker has every right to share his opinions.

He added that Sarkodie is free to criticize any political party if he feels dissatisfied with their performance.

“Sarkodie is not the only NPP supporter, I am also an NPP guy, so if you want to confront someone, then come and confront all of us… So if he responded to Gari Soakings, so what? Isn’t he a rapper? You all should learn to think.

“If it’s attention you desire, learn how to get it. You can’t be threatening Sarkodie because if something happens to him, the law will take action, and if something happens to him, you will be arrested,” he said.

Showboy further urged people to stop criticising the rapper over a harmless statement.

“I have seen a video circulating on social media where someone is insulting and threatening the rapper. Brother, the laws in the country are in place, and you shouldn’t mess with him because if something happens to him, then you will realize how many people support him.

The same NDC you are opposing will deny any involvement because the political party does not condone violence,” he added.

Entertainment personality DJ Slim has voiced his displeasure over a recent post by Sarkodie on Instagram.

On January 8, 2025, Sarkodie shared the message, “Back to gari soakings like we never left,” which sparked debate online.

Many social media users interpreted the post as a subtle comment on President John Dramani Mahama’s return to power on January 7, following his win in the 2024 elections.

But speaking on this development during a discussion on his “The Street Is Watching” podcast on January 9, 2025, DJ Slim sternly criticised the Sark Nation boss.

He said if the comment had a political undertone, then Sarkodie should be ashamed.

“If this has a political undertone, Sarkodie, you should bow your head in shame wherever you find yourself. You have disappointed us so much,” he said.

DJ Slim also criticised the timing of Sarkodie’s post, stating that it was poorly timed for the message it conveyed.

“I think this is the wrong statement for him based on the time. The post could mean different things, but the timing suggests he has publicly declared himself as a member of the New Patriotic Party,” he added.

During an episode of “Rants, Bants, and Confession” aired on October 31, 2024, the “On God” hitmaker argued that the substantial amounts Sarkodie has spent in pursuit of international acclaim could have been better allocated towards real estate development instead.

“Sarkodie has worked so hard that he should be one of the people on the international market, performing like Burna Boy and Wizkid. But you see the work he has put into place, it’s a waste of investment.

Because he was just wasting monies he could have used to build malls and filling stations, yet he is still not where Wizkid and Burna Boy are,” he said.

Shatta Wale further noted that Sarkodie’s lack of international recognition compared to Burna Boy and Wizkid stems from his willingness to be used by industry players in Ghana.

“After all these efforts, he still can’t compare himself to the likes of those musicians because he is humble and has made himself to be used by that industry player. Artistes in Ghana don’t know they are doing business,” he added.

This is how the French Embassy reacted to call for Sarkodie’s exclusion from Paris Olympics

A letter from the French Embassy in Ghana has surfaced online, responding to a petition from the New Ghana Social Justice Forum, an NGO.

The Forum had requested the exclusion of rapper Sarkodie from the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The petition, dated July 8, 2024, was directed to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, labeling Sarkodie as “misogynistic” based on lyrics from his song “Jennifer Lomotey” and allegations from actress Yvonne Nelson’s memoir, which claimed he forced her to abort a pregnancy.

The Forum argued that allowing Sarkodie to perform would be inappropriate, particularly given his past actions and statements concerning women.

In a response dated July 19, 2024, Ambassador Jules-Armand Aniambossou clarified that Sarkodie, whose real name is Michael Owusu Addo, is not scheduled to perform at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Instead, his performance is set for August 9, 2024, at the Africa Fan Zone “Station Afrique,” an independent cultural event occurring alongside the Olympics.

The Embassy’s letter stated: “Sarkodie (known in private life as Michael OWUSU ADDO) will not be performing at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. His performance is scheduled to be part of the Africa Fan Zone ‘Station Afrique’ which will be held on 9th August 2024 at Stade Robert César-L’Île-Saint-Denis. Station Afrique is an independent cultural event running concurrently with the Olympic games.”

The Embassy acknowledged the concerns raised by the NGO and emphasized its commitment to equal human rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment, clarifying that it does not support any form of discrimination.

Dr. UN recently highlighted the contrast between himself and Sarkodie, pointing to their respective backgrounds as the basis for his argument.

With a self proclaimed PhD to his credit, Dr. UN asserted that Sarkodie, as a Twi artist, stands in a different league.

In terms of global recognition, Dr. UN questioned Sarkodie’s potential to secure a Grammy Award, attributing this skepticism to Sarkodie’s preference for Twi rap.

Dr. UN suggested that the limited reach of Twi rap compared to English rap could hinder Sarkodie’s Grammy aspirations.

As a solution, Dr. UN recommended that Sarkodie consider incorporating English into his rap style to enhance his chances of Grammy success.

According to him, Sarkodie‘s accomplishments cannot be compared to him due to his academic background, specifically his attainment of a PhD.

“Sarkodie cannot be compared to me. He is a Twi artist and I am a Phd holder. “

Dr. UN emphasized that Sarkodie, being a Twi artist is a flaw.

Furthermore, Dr. UN expressed doubt about Sarkodie’s potential to win Grammy Awards, citing his proficiency primarily in Twi rap.

He argued that Twi rap, unlike English rap, lacks the ability to transcend international boundaries.

“Sarkodie can never win a Grammy Award because he is a Twi rapper. If he switches then yes he can,” Dr. UN stated.

To improve his chances, Dr. UN advised Sarkodie to transition to English rap, suggesting that only then could he be considered for a Grammy.

This is the reason Sarkodie’s wife X post amassed 1.4 million views

Wife of musician Sarkodie, Tracy Owusu Addo, recently joined the discourse on the issue of locked-up Global Fund donations of critical health supplies at Tema Port.

Her input, initially an informal explanation for the incident that has been making headlines, took a political turn when activists added further insights.

In her post, Tracy highlighted the government’s purported 15% stake in Tema Port and mentioned its current ownership by a French billionaire.

She shared a link to a 2021 Africa Confidential report titled: “SPECIAL REPORT: How Vincent Bolloré won control of Ghana’s biggest port.”

The post gained significant traction, amassing over 1.4 million views on X (formerly Twitter) with 679 comments, over 1,500 reposts, and more than 3,800 likes.

Comments on her post were split into two main camps – those who supported her stance and those who criticized it. Supporters emphasized that the transfer of control occurred during John Mahama’s administration.

On the other hand, critics argued that the contract with Bollore was a Build-Operate-Transfer arrangement, so it wouldn’t be accurate to say he “owns” the port.

Some of Tracy’s detractors accused her of unnecessary politicization due to her husband’s ties to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Sarkodie had campaigned for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in both 2016 and 2020.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Bernard Okoe Boye has issued urgent instructions for clearing the locked-up containers at the Port.

My song ‘Brag’ is not targeted at anybody – Sarkodie clarifies

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has addressed the excitement surrounding his song ‘Brag,’ in which he name-drops several Nigerian artists and Black Sherif.

Released in May 2024, ‘Brag’ from his upcoming mixtape “The Championship” ignited a rap battle between Ghana and Nigeria. Sarkodie mentioned Nigerian stars Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy in the track, leading to a spirited response from Davido, who supported his artist Dremo in countering Sarkodie’s claims.

Sarkodie dismissed Dremo’s rebuttal, prompting Ghanaian rappers like Lyrical Joe, Don Itchi, Wan Nana, Phrimpong, and CJ Biggerman to defend Sarkodie, fueling a massive lyrical contest. Lyrical Joe’s ‘1960,’ referencing Nigeria’s independence year, was a notable reply.

In an interview with VoxAfrica, Sarkodie expressed his amusement and appreciation for the buzz, highlighting that such organic publicity is invaluable. He clarified that his mentions of Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy were not intended as insults but to emphasize his longevity in the music industry.

“I love it because it’s great PR,” Sarkodie said. “For Wizkid, David, and Burna, I would never jab them because if I want to jab somebody, it has to be rappers. They are not rappers.”

Sarkodie praised the artists he mentioned, especially Black Sherif, whom he considers a close friend. He emphasized that the song’s references were to illustrate his long-standing presence in the industry, not to provoke.

The rapper enjoys the energy and conversation the song has generated, bringing attention back to hip-hop. He mentioned that the buzz surrounding ‘Brag’ is perfectly timed with the release of his mixtape “The Championship” on May 24, 2024.

“I’m super proud that there’s energy out there, especially as far as hip-hop is concerned,” Sarkodie said. “Even if we sat down to plan this PR, we wouldn’t get this. Organic PR is the best kind of PR you can get.”

Sarkodie reiterated that if he were to take jabs, they would be directed at fellow rappers, not singers who have achieved consistent fame.

“If I’m jabbing anybody, it has to be rappers. And I don’t care about that; with that, I can go all out,” he said. “The biggest jab will be the fact that I didn’t mention any rapper because nobody is as consistent and famous as these singers.”
