Enough of the stupid rumours – Pochettino on claims on his future at club

Mauricio Pochettino has dismissed “stupid rumours” regarding his future at Chelsea, affirming his commitment to see out the remaining year of his contract unless instructed otherwise by the club.

Despite a challenging inaugural season at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea has struggled to secure European qualification, Pochettino remains resolute amidst pressure from fans calling for his dismissal.

The recent 2-0 victory over Tottenham puts Chelsea within two points of seventh place, a position that would guarantee them a spot in the Europa Conference League next season.

Speculation persists that Pochettino’s job could be at risk and he told Sky Sports after beating Spurs that “it was difficult to see every single week that I am under scrutiny.”

Pushed further on this issue, Pochettino said: “We were talking about the judgement at the end of the season, if I feel I am under scrutiny.

“That was the question from the people. But it is like [we have] to prove, after all these circumstances and all of this situation, that we deserve to be here next season. I say, “Who is going to judge me?

“I need to judge myself and all the players, and of course with all the circumstances [of the season].

“But I wanted to say that it is enough with these type of rumours. If I have one more year on my contract here, and no one says nothing, [I] suppose that I am going to be here. [That changes] only if we then finish the season and someone says to me, ‘ciao.’

“Because we don’t know at the moment. I suppose I have one more year on my contract and that I am going to be here. But enough about the stupid rumours. You need to ask the club if they want me to keep going or not — not to write things that have no sense.”

Marco Reus to leave Borussia Dortmund at end of the season – Club confirms

Borussia Dortmund announced on Friday that Marco Reus will depart the club at the end of the season, concluding his remarkable 12-year tenure.

Both the player and the club have agreed not to extend his contract. Reus, a product of the Dortmund academy, returned to the club from Borussia MĂśnchengladbach in 2012.

Since then, he has made 424 appearances, scoring 168 goals and providing 128 assists.

“I’m incredibly grateful for and proud of this special time at my club Borussia Dortmund” Reus said in a statement.

“I have spent more than half of my life at this club and enjoyed every day, even though there have of course been difficult moments too.”

Reus has been a pivotal figure at Dortmund, notably securing DFB-Pokal victories in 2016-17 and 2020-21 and reaching the Champions League final under JĂźrgen Klopp in 2013.

Despite currently sitting fifth in the Bundesliga table, Dortmund has advanced to the last four of the Champions League. They secured a 1-0 victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their semifinal at the Westfalenstadion on Wednesday.

“I already know now that I will find it difficult to say goodbye at the end of the season,” Reus said. “And yet I’m happy that there is now clarity and that we can focus fully on the very important final games that we still have to play.

“We have a big objective in our sights that we all want to achieve together. To do so, we will need every single one of our unbelievable fans, to whom I would like to express my sincere thanks for their unbelievable support over the years.”

Dortmund face Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Term Mahama’s era as dumsor, ours is dum siesie – NAPO reiterates

Ghana’s Energy Minister, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, commonly known as NAPO, insists that Ghana is experiencing “dumsiesie” and not “dumsor” amidst the recent power outages plaguing the country.

According to him, under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, the country’s intermittent power supply is a result of efforts to resolve the power crisis compared to the situation under the previous administration.

During his appearance before the Government Assurances Committee Sitting on Friday, May 3, 2024, the minister responded to a question from the current member of parliament for the Ablekuma South Constituency regarding why the country is still experiencing power outages despite his claim that electrification in the country is 88.75% complete.

“I’m not sure I am here again to talk about dumsor as you will like to drag me into.

We are in the era of dumsie sie which is profoundly different from dumsor.Dumsor as it inflicted on Ghanaians has only happened as characterised His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

He is the only President that four years he reigned, ruled governed it has been dum dum dum.
So if the non partisan colleague says that now it is worse then I don’t know where his realities lie” he noted.

  • Erik ten Hag admits Harry Kane slipped of club’s list in 2023 transfer window

Erik ten Hag admits Harry Kane slipped of club’s list in 2023 transfer window

Erik ten Hag has acknowledged Manchester United’s interest in signing Harry Kane in 2023 but expresses confidence in Rasmus Hojlund’s ability to emerge as a prolific striker, potentially scoring 30 goals.

Despite the Red Devils prioritizing the acquisition of another forward last summer, they ultimately secured the Danish star from Atalanta for a significant sum of ÂŁ72 million ($90m), opting to invest in his promising talent rather than established pedigree.

Ten Hag has told Sky Sports of that decision, with the club’s No.1 target slipping the net: “This club can only have outstanding players because the expectations are so high. Manchester United is the biggest, or maybe second or third, biggest club in the world, the highest fanbase so expectations will always be there.

Everyone has an opinion about Manchester United and it can only be outstanding players. That’s players who have all the skillset, that is the physical and especially the mental skillset they need to perform and contribute because we have to win every game.

There’s an expectation around every game from us so you can only fulfil that expectation when you have those outstanding players. But in the last decade and in this period, we couldn’t always get the players we wanted.

But then you have to build and you have to accept that you get talent in instead of players who already proved it in the past. We have had some choices made with talents like Rasmus Hojlund. I can see a striker who already proved it, who we want to sign and we couldn’t get him. And then we went to Rasmus because he’s a talent.”

Quizzed on whether former Tottenham star Kane – who is now at Bayern Munich – was the one that got away, Ten Hag added: “Yes, and you know Harry Kane will get you 30 goals. I think Rasmus will get there, but he needs time. It’s not fair to assess him the same as Harry Kane.

I would never compare two players because they are very different. But with Hojlund, I think we had the biggest potential in the striker position last summer and we are very happy with him. But he also needs time to adapt and we are very pleased he showed his assets in scoring goals.

He had a very good period where he scored many games after he showed it, but before and after, he had some physical issues, which is normal for a young player coming up. But it has a negative impact on the team result and that’s what you have to accept.

Then you go back to the fans and the opinion makers, and they don’t understand or they don’t want to understand this. It is how Man United gets judged, they only see the result, but we need time. You have to accept the process is going slower and you can’t then expect to straight [away] compete for titles in the Champions League and Premier League.”

Kane has broken the 40-goal barrier during his debut campaign at Bayern, as he puts them in contention for Champions League glory, while Hojlund – who only opened his Premier League account on December 26 before enjoying a remarkable run of form – has found the target on 14 occasions through 38 appearances.

Cristiano Ronaldo, having scored 450 goals for Real Madrid, responded to Antonio Rudiger’s acknowledgment of him as the club’s greatest of all time (GOAT).

Ronaldo’s nine-year stint at Santiago Bernabeu saw him clinch two La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies, securing his status as the club’s leading scorer.

While Rudiger placed him as the top great, Ronaldo’s response came in the form of a clapping hands emoji on social media.

Even at 39 years old, Ronaldo continues to impress, tallying 44 goals in 45 appearances for Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr this season, guiding them to the King Cup of Champions final.

“Do you want to sit back down”? – The beginning of Salah-Klopp’s touchline row spat

Michail Antonio has shed light on the touchline altercation between Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah during Liverpool’s draw with West Ham.

The incident, which overshadowed the match, saw Salah and Klopp engaged in a heated exchange. While Klopp downplayed the incident, Salah hinted at underlying tensions.

Various theories have emerged regarding the cause of the row, including speculation about Salah’s frustration at not starting the game and footage suggesting a disagreement over a handshake.

Antonio revealed that the West Ham players have been discussing the incident and forming their own opinions about what transpired.

“As the [Liverpool] players come on, Klopp always gives them a big hug and says ‘good luck’, but when Mo came on he walked in a different direction and was doing his shinpads and stuff like that.

Klopp has put his hand out to him and his hand was there for a bit and as Mo stopped doing what he was doing, he just slapped his [Klopp’s] hand as a high five.

“Obviously Klopp didn’t like that and he was like, ‘do you want to sit back down?’, basically saying, ‘do you want to go on?’. And nobody has told me what Mo said back.”

Speculation has arisen that Salah might depart Liverpool in the summer following the row. Meanwhile, both Salah and Klopp will resume action on Sunday against Tottenham in the Premier League. Liverpool’s title aspirations took a hit after recent draws against Everton and West Ham.

  • You need to fix this – Poch to Chelsea board over Conor Gallagher Spurs links

You need to fix this – Poch to Chelsea board over Conor Gallagher Spurs links

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has urged the club to address Conor Gallagher’s contract situation amidst ongoing transfer speculation linking him with Tottenham.

Despite Gallagher’s standout performances this season, the 24-year-old midfielder’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025, and there has been no progress in negotiations for a new deal.

Pochettino, who has consistently praised Gallagher’s contributions, reiterated the importance of securing his long-term commitment to Stamford Bridge.

Despite interest from Spurs and Newcastle United, Pochettino remains hopeful that Chelsea can extend Gallagher’s stay following his impressive display in Chelsea’s recent 2-0 victory over Tottenham.

He replied: “I am not involved. I do not know nothing.”

When quizzed on how important he was to Chelsea, he added: “You can see. My starting XI, the whole season he has always been there, in all of the circumstances he is always there. I am not involved in the decision. It is a situation they need to fix between the club and the player.”

Despite Gallagher’s impressive performance of six goals and nine assists across all competitions this season, Chelsea may still consider selling him this summer.

The club is concerned about complying with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, and offloading academy product Gallagher, valued at ÂŁ60 million ($75.3m), would significantly contribute to their balance sheet as ‘pure profit’.

Although fans are reluctant to see him leave, it appears that Gallagher’s time at the club could be drawing to a close.

Chelsea, currently eighth in the Premier League with four games remaining, will face London rivals West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, followed by an away match against Nottingham Forest next Saturday.

Rashford to go into crunch meeting with Sir Ratcliffe over future at Utd

Marcus Rashford is set for crucial discussions with Sir Jim Ratcliffe regarding his future amid transfer speculation linking him to Paris Saint-Germain.

The potential reshuffle in the United squad for next season has prompted considerations of Rashford’s sale, with INEOS believing that only three players are guaranteed a spot, and Rashford is not among them.

Additionally, compliance with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, where profits from trading homegrown players contribute to compliance, further supports the board’s decision for Rashford’s departure.

According to The Sun, Ratcliffe is eager to address Rashford’s recent struggles and understand any underlying issues, including resolving potential conflicts with manager Erik ten Hag.

Sir Dave Brailsford, Ratcliffe’s trusted associate, is expected to lead discussions with Rashford and his representatives to find a solution and determine his future.

Rashford’s strained relationship with manager Ten Hag has been linked to off-the-pitch issues, notably his reported disregard for conduct warnings.

Instances like partying after a derby defeat to Manchester City and missing training due to illness following a night out in Belfast have worsened tensions with the coaching staff.

Despite interest from PSG, Rashford remains committed to staying at United and proving himself in the remaining season matches.

His performance in the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City will be crucial in showcasing his abilities and securing his place in Gareth Southgate’s plans for Euro 2024.

Mahama vows to reopen probe into Cecilia Dapaah’s case

Former President John Mahama has voiced his dissatisfaction with the outcome of the probe into alleged corruption involving ex-Sanitation Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

The investigation centered on accusations against two house helps employed by Mrs. Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour.

The employees, Patience Botwe (18) and Sarah Agyei (30), faced charges in the Accra Circuit Court for reportedly stealing valuables worth millions of cedis from the couple’s residence in Abelemkpe, Accra, between July and October 2022.

The stolen items included US$1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana Cedis.

Upon referral of the case to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for a money laundering investigation by the Special Prosecutor, the Attorney General’s Office advised against initiating such proceedings.

They stressed the necessity of proving that financial gains stemmed from criminal activities to pursue money laundering charges effectively.

Additionally, the Attorney General’s Office suggested that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) handle inquiries into the source of Cecilia Dapaah’s funds.

Expressing his disappointment with these developments, former President Mahama indicated his intention to reopen investigations into the alleged corruption involving the former Sanitation Minister if elected in the 2024 general elections.

Meanwhile, Mary Awelana Addah, Executive Director of Ghana Integrity Initiatives (GII), criticized EOCO’s handling of the case. She suggested that while EOCO may seek legal advice from the AG’s Office, it should have continued its independent investigation until it reached a point requiring prosecutorial guidance.

Addah emphasized the importance of EOCO pursuing investigations diligently to their conclusion before consulting external entities for prosecution advice.

“But then it is what it is; it is very unfortunate; let me not mince words at all. The impression this is creating is that we can always get away with anything, particularly when it comes to issues around allegations of corruption because we would use the weakness in the regime or legal regime to get away with them,” she said.

Former Second Lady robbery case: Defense lawyers seek delay to file bail request

High Court in Accra has adjourned the hearing of an application for bail filed by the lawyers of the man charged with robbing former Second Lady Matilda Yaaba Amissah-Arthur and four others to May 13, 2024.

This adjournment was requested by defense lawyers led by Paul Asibi Abariga, who stated that they required additional time to review the prosecution’s affidavit opposing their bail application.

The accused, Yahuza Osumanu, a self-acclaimed businessman, was charged on April 16, 2024, with 26 counts, including 20 counts of robbery and six counts of money laundering.

Despite pleading not guilty, he has been remanded in custody. The Court, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, was scheduled to hear the motion for bail on Thursday, May 2, 2024. However, the defense counsel requested more time to review the prosecution’s affidavit.

“Today (Thursday) is supposed to be the day to move the bail filed by us (lawyers) for the accused,” the defence counsel said.

“But I must admit that about 5 minutes ago, I was given a copy by the prosecution. We need to look at what they have filed closely and therefore need more time than this short period we have to present our arguments for bail,” he submitted.

“In that regard, we may humbly ask your Ladyship, per your discretion, to grant us even tomorrow to come back and respond to this process,” Lawyer Abariga said.

According to EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, state prosecutors led by Amanda Awadey, a state attorney, are expected to file their witness statements by May 21.

    Background:

Yahuza Osumanu, a self-proclaimed businessman, faced arraignment after allegedly attacking and robbing former Second Lady Matilda Yaaba Amissah-Arthur, wife of the late Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, who served from 2012 to 2016.

During the incident, Osumanu purportedly stole various currencies, including GH¢3,000, USD 2,200, and fifty Euros, along with a gold watch and necklace valued at GH¢20,000 and GH¢5,000, respectively.

Facing 26 charges, including 20 counts of robbery and six counts of money laundering, Osumanu pleaded not guilty to all accusations and has been remanded into prison custody by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo.

The Court instructed the prosecution to complete their disclosures, and Osumanu’s defense team, led by Paul Asibi Abariga, was directed to serve a formal bail application on the prosecution.

Aside from the former Second Lady, businessman David Adjaye and three others were allegedly robbed of their valuables at gunpoint by the accused.

Mahama cares about just himself and family not Ghanaians – Ex NDC executive

A former executive of the Tema East Constituency branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused their party’s flagbearer, former President John Mahama, of lacking empathy towards the plight of Ghanaians.

During an interview with journalists in Tema on Workers’ Day, Stephen Ashitey Adjei, also known as Moshake, pointed out that Mr. John Mahama’s alleged lack of empathy is demonstrated by his refusal to apologize for what some perceive as mistreatment of Ghanaian workers during his presidency.

Moshake argued that if John Mahama possessed even a hint of humility and respect for the citizenry, he would have apologized sincerely to Ghanaians for the perceived mistreatment of workers.

“The former president, after putting public sector employment on hold for the longest period in the history of the Fourth Republic, also refused to pay the benefits of some who had served in state-owned enterprises.

“And yet, when it came to himself and his family, he awarded large contracts and paid himself a hefty ex-gratia. Mahama simply does not care about Ghanaians. What kind of dead goat is this?” Moshake said.

The comment comes as Mr. John Mahama campaigns for the 2024 presidential election.

“For me personally, the evidence that John Mahama does not care about workers and Ghanaians in general is both known and felt on personal and general levels. We all know how he stopped the payment of the retrenchment benefits of GPHA ex-workers after former President Atta Mills had ordered them to be paid.

Moshake alleges that Mr. Mahama’s ambition to reclaim the presidency is driven solely by selfish motives, aiming to accumulate wealth for himself and his family while neglecting the welfare of the Ghanaian populace.

“Everyone knows that there is no significant development that Mr. John Mahama can achieve in four years if he is re-elected president, so what else, apart from greed, would make him want to become president again after serving as MP, deputy minister, minister, Vice President, and President?” Moshake asked.

Reports indicate that Yaw and Gifty had been in a relationship for nearly six years. However, throughout their time together, Yaw was reportedly abusive towards Gifty, subjecting her to physical harm.

Feeling overwhelmed by the ongoing mistreatment, Gifty made the difficult decision to end the relationship and relocate to Kumasi.

In Kumasi, she found solace in a new partner, opting to move forward with her life away from Yaw.

After discovering Gifty’s decision to end their relationship and marry another person, Yaw initially tried to end his life by ingesting DDT. Thankfully, he was rescued in time.

However, in a tragic turn of events, Yaw ultimately chose to take his own life by hanging himself from a tree.

Before his demise, Yaw left behind a poignant note expressing his deep regret. In part, his note reads:

Hearts of Oak coach says he is clueless as to why they lost to Accra Lions

Hearts of Oak’s Assistant Coach, Abdul Rahim Bashiru, has voiced his surprise following his team’s unforeseen defeat to Accra Lions on Wednesday.

Despite a promising start and several opportunities in the first half, the Phobians couldn’t convert their chances, ultimately conceding a goal to Accra Lions in the 56th minute scored by Ibrahim Issa.

“That’s football. We started so well. We were even supposed to finish the game in the first half. We had some decent chances but we couldn’t take them,” Rahim Bashiru lamented post-match.

“In the second half, we continued before they scored so to me, I can’t tell you the reason why. I don’t know. Whether we lost focus or what. We kept trying but they defended so well. Their goalkeeper did very well so we have to congratulate them,” he added.

The recent defeat has seen Hearts of Oak drop to 12th place in the league standings with 35 points, just four points above the relegation zone.

Conversely, Accra Lions have ascended to third position, strengthening their position in the league.

Hearts of Oak have now suffered five defeats in their last six matches, with their lone victory in that period coming against Karela United.

Given their ongoing struggles, the Phobians may face the prospect of missing out on a top-four finish for the third consecutive year, following their Ghana Premier League triumph in the 2020/21 season.

“One of the best decisions in my life” – Pochettino on England move

Approaching his 400th game as a manager in English football, Mauricio Pochettino, the Chelsea boss, reflects on his journey, describing his move to England as “one of the best decisions in my life.”

The upcoming match against his former club Tottenham at Stamford Bridge marks a significant milestone for the Argentine manager, who has previously had spells at Southampton and Spurs before joining Chelsea this season.

Expressing his sentiments ahead of the milestone, Pochettino acknowledges the pivotal role played by his wife and friend in convincing him to join Southampton, a decision he now considers life-changing.

Reflecting on his time in England, Pochettino expresses gratitude for the opportunity to coach in a country renowned for its passion for football, describing it as feeling “like home.”

Pochettino’s tenure at Tottenham saw notable achievements, including leading the team to the Champions League final in the 2018/19 season and securing a second-place finish in the Premier League in 2017.

However, despite significant investment in transfers by Chelsea’s owners, Pochettino’s side currently sits ninth in the Premier League, five points adrift of a probable European qualification spot.

He narrowly missed out on his first trophy in England when Chelsea lost to Liverpool earlier this year in the Carabao Cup final. While facing criticism from some fans, there have been glimpses of promise from his young team, hinting at potential for improvement.

With five matches to end the season, the London side are hoping to record positive results and seal a place in European competition next season.

As Pochettino prepares for his 400th game in English football, he remains focused on steering Chelsea towards success and further establishing his legacy in the vibrant football landscape of England.

Hearts of Lions coach Bashir Hayford has been charged with “misconduct” by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the matchday 28 fixture against Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Saturday, April 27.

Despite the match ending in a 1-1 draw, the second half witnessed a disruptive incident where the visitors’ coach and his players stormed onto the field, temporarily halting play.

Hayford even brought a seat onto the pitch to protest against perceived poor officiating. This behavior has led to the misconduct charge against him.

Additionally, seven Bechem United officials are set to face the Committee on Thursday over allegations of attacking match officials, with the club also facing charges.

Veteran coach Bashir Hayford has until Monday, May 6, to respond to the charge, which violates Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations 2019.

Rashford refuses to leave Man Utd amid reports sale attempts and PSG interest

Reports suggest that Marcus Rashford is adamant about blocking any attempts by Manchester United to sell him, despite a disappointing season and interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

With talks of a potential squad overhaul at United, Rashford’s name has surfaced as a possible option for sale.

PSG stands out as a realistic contender to meet Rashford’s valuation and accommodate his personal terms, especially with the potential departure of Kylian Mbappe looming.

Despite Rashford’s struggles on the field, United remains committed to his potential and success, evident in their significant investment through a new contract until at least 2028.

However, there’s acknowledgment among decision-makers that Rashford’s performance must improve, given his limited goal tally this season.

While Rashford has expressed no desire to leave Manchester and is content living there, his high weekly wage presents a hurdle for any potential exit.

Fan frustration has grown towards him, highlighted by boos during recent matches.

Additionally, his relationship with manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly strained, stemming from off-pitch incidents and alleged disregard for warnings.

Rashford’s form slump may impact his chances of making England’s Euro 2024 squad.

Nevertheless, his determination to stay at United amid challenges demonstrates his commitment.

With upcoming matches, including an FA Cup final, Rashford has opportunities to showcase his abilities and end the season positively.

  • Kyle Walker’s mistress to be blocked from getting Euro 2024 tickets

Kyle Walker’s mistress to be blocked from getting Euro 2024 tickets

Lauryn Goodman, identified as the mistress of Manchester City player Kyle Walker, is reportedly facing obstacles in acquiring tickets for Euro 2024 through official channels.

Walker, who has two children with Goodman outside of his marriage, is seeking to repair their relationship and avoid distractions during the tournament.

The Football Association is also focused on maintaining team focus and ensuring that Goodman does not attend matches, despite her reported intention to bring her son to watch Walker play.

A source is said to have told the Mail: “Lauryn has been saying she will be at the games this summer because Kyle promised their son tickets, but that sets off massive alarm bells for the squad’s team behind the scenes.

There are special seating areas at each of the matches which are allocated to players and staff for their families and friends, and quite often those tickets get passed on and shared around between those close to the team – and there’s no doubt Kyle’s wife Annie will be there with their kids.

But Lauryn has been saying she will get hold of some tickets and go along too which would cause massive problems.

There’s no way any will be issued directly to her the way things are currently, but she could try to get them by another means or through friends within the game – she knows a lot of players and football agents.

The manager and the team need total focus on the games. Any distraction will be totally clamped down on. Everything in their power, they will do it. Nobody wants a circus ruining their chances.”

Goodman is said to have told friends that Walker wants her in Germany this summer as he is keen for “Kairo to see me play”, but those claims have been contradicted by the Mail’s source – who says no such invitation has been extended.

Kilner, who recently welcomed the couple’s fourth child, is anticipated to be present at Euro 2024. England, among the top contenders in pre-tournament betting, will kick off their campaign against Serbia on June 16th.

PSG bus reportedly left Mbappe behind after loss to Dortmund

Kylian Mbappe was inadvertently left behind by the Paris Saint-Germain team bus after their Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund in Germany, this is according to reports.

The first leg of the semifinal saw PSG struggle against Dortmund, with Niclas Fullkrug’s goal securing a crucial win for the German side.

Despite PSG’s efforts in the second half, they couldn’t breach Dortmund’s defense, leaving Mbappe and his teammates frustrated on the pitch.

Post-match, Mbappe found himself stranded at Signal Iduna Park as the rest of the team departed for the airport.

According to Le Parisien, Mbappe was delayed due to a random drug test, but eventually rejoined his teammates for the return journey to Paris.

Although Mbappe had several chances against Dortmund, he was thwarted by the post, adding to his disappointment.

However, his manager remains optimistic about their chances in the decisive leg to be played in Paris next week.

“In the last two rounds, they had the home game as their second game, whereas it was the other way round for us,” he said. “Now it’s a different and new scenario, we’ll have the crowd on our side in the second leg. I would have liked to create the chances we have created, but you have to be effective to score. We’ll see what version we show in Paris.”

As tensions rise and pressure mounts, PSG faces a crucial test next Tuesday against a resurgent Dortmund team, who eliminated Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals. With a full week to prepare his squad, Enrique can focus solely on the upcoming clash as there are no domestic commitments over the weekend.

Real Madrid is providing support to former player Karim Benzema as he recovers from a recurring injury, as confirmed by his current club, Al Ittihad, on Thursday.

Benzema, aged 36, has faced challenges with muscular issues during his debut season at the Saudi Pro League club.

He joined Al Ittihad last summer as a free agent after spending 14 years at Real Madrid.

The forward last played in a 3-2 win at Al Hazm on April 20 and has missed the last two games.

Despite his setbacks, he has managed to score 13 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions for the Jeddah-based club. The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner is currently under contract with Al Ittihad until June 2026.

“Happy to continue in the best club in the world,” the teenager said in a post on Instagram.

His father, Marcelo, congratulated his son in an Instagram post of his own: “Congratulations my son for another achievement reached. Joy, work and responsibility.

Arsenal mull injury prone Partey’s future with club as contract nears expiry

Arsenal are facing a dilemma regarding the future of Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey, whose stint with the team has been rocked by injuries.

Thomas Partey’s recurring injuries have led to him missing a significant number of games this season, more than any previous season, casting doubts on his dependability.

Despite rejecting offers from Saudi Arabian clubs last year, Arsenal is now at a crossroads due to Thomas Partey’s contract expiring next year.

Although he has faced challenges this season, Thomas Partey’s impressive performances in recent matches against Chelsea and Tottenham have sparked discussions among Arsenal supporters and commentators.

Having made only eleven appearances in the Premier League this season, Arsenal is confronted with the choice of either keeping the 30-year-old midfielder for another term, hoping he will surmount his injury issues and make a meaningful contribution to the team’s achievements, or capitalising on his value before his contract runs out.

As per Transfermarkt, Thomas Partey’s current market value stands at €20,000,000.

Rains to intensify, move to higher grounds – GMET warns

Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) issued a warning to residents residing in flood-prone areas, urging them to relocate to higher ground as rainfall intensifies.

Intense rain was observed in various parts of the country on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. GMET forecasts indicate that more rainfall is expected in the upcoming days.

Joseph Tetteh Portuphy, Deputy Director in charge of forecasting at GMET, advised citizens to exercise extra caution during this period.

“We should know that we are getting into the flooding period, because any little rain, the ground will be saturated. Once the ground is saturated, any additional rain will cause a flash flood. So, this is the period that at least we need to desilt the gutters.

“And also make sure that at least those of us who are in houses, areas that are flood prone, the moment you hear that it is going to rain please, take caution and move to higher ground or find somewhere and go.

May Day: ICU-Ghana goes hard on govt, employers over short-changing workers

Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union Ghana (ICU-Ghana) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has issued a warning to the government, stating that it will not stand idly by while being short-changed under the guise of a global economic recession.

This warning comes in the wake of the May Day celebration, which focused on the theme “Election 2024: The Role of Workers and Social Partners in Securing Peaceful Elections for National Development.”

In a statement signed and released by the General Secretary of the union, Morgan Ayawine, it was emphasized that economies are on the path to recovery, underscoring the need for the government to make deliberate efforts to enhance the conditions of service for public sector workers.

“We must jealously protect and guard against any employer who may want to short-change labour under the guise of global economic recession when it has been established that economies and businesses are recovering and the outcomes are positive,” the statement said.

The union also warned employers who convert permanent job positions to casual and contract work in the bid to maximize profit to desist from such actions.

“Whilst we work collaboratively with our social partners to increase jobs and protect same, it is pertinent to sound a note of caution to employers who indulge in such demeaning practices of converting permanent job positions to casual and contract work in a bid to maximize profit, to halt it out rightly, as it is not only demotivating but also unacceptable and may eventually backfire on them”.

The union, however, applauded employers who assist and help workers work in a conducive environment.

“For the empathetic employers who share in workers’ pain and are doing their bit to alleviate the pains and suffering, we salute and appreciate them and encourage them to do more, and in the same measure workers should continue with their avowed commitment to working harder all year round, to ensure high productivity, profitability and sustainability of the employers’ businesses to achieve their organizational goals for the mutual good of both parties and the growth and development of the national economy”.

ICU Ghana has also urged its members to refrain from any actions that could jeopardize the peace and stability leading up to the 2024 general elections.

“The National Union (ICU-Ghana), therefore, wishes to take this opportunity to advise all workers to stay away from any person who would want to influence you to do acts that could undermine the peace and stability of the country in this year’s elections”.

May Day: ECG staff walkout as Simon Osei-Mensah takes stage to deliver speech

Staff of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have staged a walkout as the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, was about to deliver his speech at the May Day Parade in Kumasi.

Clad in red attire, the ECG employees held placards with messages urging the Regional Minister to refrain from interfering in their operations.

This action was prompted by the Minister’s recent directive to arrest the Ashanti East Manager of the company, Ing. Wiafe Asomani, after the ECG National Taskforce disconnected the Kumasi Technical University due to outstanding debts.

Following the Minister’s refusal to apologize, the workers took further action to demand redress. Despite their efforts, the Minister remained unapologetic.

The leadership of the ECG Workers’ Union, spearheading the protest at the May Day event, maintained their stance that Mr. Osei-Mensah must apologize and withdraw the police case against their Manager.

In an interview with Citi News, Yussif Osman the Chairman of ECG Senior Staff Union, Ashanti East, said, “We already have an issue with him, he has done something the workers front are not happy with, initially the workers front decided that we don’t appear at all.

“But since this is our programme we came. Since the minister has decided not to fulfil whatever we have asked him to do, we don’t even want to listen to him.

So this is just a peaceful protest that we’re not going to participate or listen to whatever he will say. We’re standing outside when he’s done with his speech we will go back.”

Power crisis fixed; ‘dumsor’ never to return again; – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assured attendees of the annual May Day celebration in Accra that the recent issues with erratic power supply, commonly known as “dumsor,” have been successfully resolved.

He expressed confidence that the challenges are now behind the country, thanking citizens for their patience and cooperation during the difficult period.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for their patience and understanding during recent temporary challenges with electricity supply across the country.

“Over the period, the issues surrounding transformers and gas supply have been successfully resolved resulting in sufficient improvement in power supply reliability,” the president said.

“Indeed, over the past few days, we have witnessed stable electricity supply across the country with no load-shedding reported anywhere yesterday.”

“For the past seven years we have worked tirelessly to keep the lights on and I am confident that the unfortunate era of dumsor will not return,” he added.

Pay all our Tier-2 deductions – TUC’s TEWU calls on government

The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trade Union Congress (TUC)-Ghana, along with other labor unions, is demanding that the government promptly pays all Tier-2 deductions and associated arrears and penalties to the fund managers.

The Union emphasized that any further delay in reimbursing fund managers with the Tier-2 deductions would disadvantage Ghanaian workers in terms of their pension benefits, particularly the return on investment.

King James Azortibah, the new General Secretary of TEWU of TUC Ghana, made this assertion in a statement sent to the Ghana News Agency in Accra to mark this year’s May Day.

“Is that how to treat people who have worked hard to keep the economy and other social development agendas of the country on course all their working lives”?

He expressed concern about the current condition of Tier-2, which constitutes the lump sum for every pensioner, causing distress for retirees and those nearing retirement.

“It is very worrying to say that since 2020, when the first batch of retirees under the new pension scheme retired, what was paid them as a lump sum is nothing to write home about,” he said.

Mr. Azortibah urged the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to expedite the remittance of the unions’ dues deductions in compliance with the law to ensure the seamless operation of union activities.

“The over-three-month delays in releasing dues deductions by the CAGD are a major challenge, which we expect to stop immediately,” he said.

He called on the Ministry of Finance to, as a matter of urgency, issue financial clearance for the recruitment of more non-teaching staff to fill the ever-increasing vacancies in the various educational institutions.

“We call, for quick engagement with our social partners, to deploy modern cooking gadgets to our schools to reduce the burden of stress in cooking for large numbers in the schools,” he said.

He urged the government to prioritize negotiations and finalize the conditions of service for union members in universities and allied institutions. This, he emphasized, is essential for creating a conducive working environment in the universities.

Additionally, the Union invited citizens to join them in prayer for peaceful elections in 2024.

“The Ghanaian workers and the entire population need peace to contribute their quota to national development,” he said.

  • ‘He fired from behind’ – Eyewitness tells it all in shooting of military man in Kasoa

‘He fired from behind’ – Eyewitness tells it all in shooting of military man in Kasoa

Reports suggest that a chief in Millennium City, Kasoa, allegedly fired the fatal shots that led to the killing of a military officer amidst a land dispute.

The tragic incident has deeply affected the community and has raised concerns about the increasing violence associated with land-related disagreements.

According to information from Citi News based in Accra, the conflict arose from a land dispute involving the brother of one of the military officers. Allegedly, the brother had purchased land from certain chiefs in Millennium City but faced fierce opposition from landguards whenever he tried to develop the property.

In an attempt to resolve the dispute, the deceased military officer, accompanied by two colleagues, visited the contested land. Despite previously reporting the issue to the Millennium City District Police Command, their efforts to address the situation peacefully were unsuccessful.

Arriving at the scene in a Toyota Rav 4 with registration number GR 3591-24, the officers encountered individuals working on the land. As they sought to halt the activity and lodge another complaint at the District Police station, they were confronted by the Gyasehene of Millennium City, identified as Benlord Ababio.

Witnesses described a tense confrontation between the military officers and the chief, during which the latter allegedly urged the former not to proceed to the Divisional Police Command. Disregarding the plea, the officers continued on their path, leading the alleged assailant to fire shots at their vehicle from behind.

“I saw the incident happen right in front of me. The Chief, Benload Ababio met the military officers at the District Police station and was trying to speak to them not to go to the Divisional Police Command but they didn’t listen.

“While they were heading to the Divisional command just after moving their vehicle the Gyamehene Benlord Ababio fired at their vehicle just behind them leading to one of the officers dying in the process.

Two other officers escaped unhurt but the chief was arrested immediately after the incident and sent to the Divisional Police Command.

Eyewitnesses recounted to citinewsroom.com that the police later transferred the accused chief to the Accra Division due to concerns about potential retaliation from local landguards.

Tragically, one of the officers lost his life due to the injuries sustained during the gunfire, while the other two escaped unscathed.

Promptly apprehended at the scene by law enforcement officers, the accused chief was swiftly transferred to the Accra Division amidst fears of reprisals from local landguards.

As investigations into the incident continue, the identity of the deceased officer remains undisclosed. Shock and disbelief enveloped bystanders as the grim aftermath unfolded, sparking speculation about the underlying reasons behind the deadly altercation.

Despite the gravity of the situation, official statements from authorities have yet to be released, leaving many questions unanswered and exacerbating tensions within the community.

With the investigation ongoing, residents of Kasoa are left to mourn the loss of life and grapple with the repercussions of violence erupting over contentious land ownership disputes.

  • Surge in COVID-19 due incomplete vaccine uptake – Experts

Surge in COVID-19 due incomplete vaccine uptake – Experts

Health experts attribute the recent surge in COVID-19 cases to the incomplete vaccination status of most Ghanaians.

The full vaccination regimen, consisting of two jabs and a booster shot as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), is crucial for maximum protection against severe illness and death from the virus.

Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, the Minister Designate for Health, highlighted this during a visit to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in his capacity as the President’s Representative at the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Okoe-Boye emphasized that while vaccination significantly reduces the risk of severe outcomes, the prevalence of only one dose among many Ghanaians may have contributed to the recent uptick in cases.

According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), 18 new active COVID-19 cases have been recorded, with the potential for further increases.

As of December 2023, a total of 28,515,854 individuals had been vaccinated. Among them, 14,867,012 have received at least one dose, 11,782,609 are fully vaccinated, and 6,691,825 have received their booster dose.

Dr. Okoe-Boye underscored that COVID-19 remains a threat and urged those yet to complete their vaccination to do so promptly to mitigate the spread of the virus.

The GHS plans to conduct vaccination campaigns in May, June, July, and August to boost immunization coverage. Additionally, the public is urged to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols to help curb the surge in cases.

  • Bayern’s Tuchel descends on “overly ambitious” Kim’s defense in UCL draw to Madrid

Bayern’s Tuchel descends on “overly ambitious” Kim’s defense in UCL draw to Madrid

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has criticized defender Kim Min-Jae for his role in conceding two goals to Real Madrid during their Champions League semifinal first leg on Tuesday.

Tuchel singled out Kim for giving away a penalty in the second half, which VinĂcius JĂşnior converted to level the score for Madrid. Additionally, Tuchel highlighted another mistake by Kim that resulted in Bayern conceding the opening goal of the match.

“He was too overly ambitious twice. He made the first move too early against VinĂcius in the first goal and got caught by Toni Kroos’ pass,” Tuchel said.

“He speculated and was too aggressive. In the second goal, unfortunately it was another mistake. We were five against two, we had the numbers. There was no need to defend that aggressively against Rodrygo.

“The moment Eric [Dier] was about to help, he [Kim] brought him [Rodrygo] down. Unfortunately with their quality, these mistakes get punished. But well, it happens. We have to move on.”

Thomas Tuchel has held Kim Min-Jae responsible for both goals conceded by Bayern Munich.

Kim joined Bayern in the summer following his contribution to Napoli’s Serie A triumph last season. However, his performance has been inconsistent since his move to the Bundesliga, and he has occasionally found himself on the bench since Eric Dier’s arrival in January.

In other news, Harry Kane revealed that he paid no attention to England teammate Jude Bellingham’s attempt to distract him as he prepared to take a penalty for Bayern when the game was tied at 1-1.

“To be honest I don’t know what he was saying. He was mumbling something. Once I’m in that moment, I’m in my zone, trying to block everything out,” Kane told TNT. “I’m sure he was saying something to try to put me off.”

Bayern and Madrid will meet at the BernabĂŠu on May 8 in the second leg.

    New details have emerged:

Two other soldiers survived the shooting, having been reportedly present in the car during the gun attack.

    Their current whereabouts remain unknown.

According to reports from Adom News, the trio was targeted by an alleged land guard, identified as a sub-chief.

  • Arrest Kingsley, or we will all pay EC officials in Dec – Hopeson on alleged bribery at Ejisu primaries

Arrest Kingsley, or we will all pay EC officials in Dec – Hopeson on alleged bribery at Ejisu primaries

Member of Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change (M4C), Hopeson Adorye, has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Kingsley Nyarko, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Kwadaso.

Adorye’s demand comes in the wake of allegations of bribery during the recently concluded Ejisu by-election, sparked by a viral video showing Nyarko handing a white envelope to Electoral Commission (EC) officials at a polling station in Fumesua.

Condemning the actions captured in the video, Adorye labeled them as criminal, emphasizing that such behavior undermines the integrity of the electoral process and cannot be tolerated.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News on April 30, 2024, Adorye argued that Nyarko’s actions violated electoral laws and therefore warranted legal action.

He further contended that since the EC was responsible for providing lunch for its staff, Nyarko’s actions constituted a crime, and he called for police intervention to arrest and prosecute Nyarko accordingly.

“I say they need to arrest him and prosecute him. He has broken the law; it is a crime. You don’t need to do that at the polling station but because he is an NPP MP, they are closing their eyes.

If they don’t arrest him, in December, we are all going to do the same thing at the polling station,” he stated.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has acknowledged the incident at the Fumesua Pentecost Church polling station, where the MP was seen placing an envelope on the table occupied by the presiding officer and the ballot issuer.

In a statement released on April 30, 2024, and signed by Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman of Operations, the EC announced the suspension of the two temporary staff pending an investigation into the matter.

Furthermore, the EC stated that it had referred the incident to the police for a criminal investigation.

“I’ll smash him” – Rudiger warns Mbappe ahead of possible meet in Champions League final

Antonio Rudiger has made a bold declaration, stating his intent to confront Kylian Mbappe aggressively if Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain clash in the Champions League final.

The prospect of this epic encounter looms large, with Wembley potentially hosting the showdown on June 1.

For this scenario to materialize, Real Madrid must first navigate past Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, while Paris Saint-Germain must overcome Borussia Dortmund on the opposite side of the bracket.

What adds an extra layer of intrigue to this anticipated matchup is the possibility of Mbappe facing off against his rumored future club, as speculation swirls that the French striker is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer once his contract with PSG expires on June 30.

But Rudiger is in no mood to show mercy to his potential team-mate if their paths cross and told Le Media Carre: “If we face him in the final, we’ll beat him. And if he passes [i.e. dribbles] me, I’ll smash him.”

Despite his tough stance on the field, the German defender welcomed the idea of the 2018 World Cup winner joining the Spanish giants. He noted that Real Madrid has a renowned history of attracting top talent.

“The best players in history have always come to Real Madrid. He’s one of the best players in the world, so it would be a good match,” he said.
When questioned about the reports of Mbappe’s imminent arrival, he added with a smirk: “Who says that he’s (Mbappe) coming, it’s not official.”

Rudiger will be in action against Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening in the first leg of Real’s semi-final tie at Allianz Arena, whereas Mbappe will take the pitch a day later against Borussia Dortmund in Germany.

The focus will shift to the possibility of a high-stakes encounter between the two players in the Champions League final on June 1 if both teams are able to overcome their German opponents at the last four stage of the competition.

A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @KyeiMeshack shows a group of women frantically reporting that a group of people from an unamed party snatched the ID cards of some of their residents.

In the video captioned “Heerrrh!!!@NPP_GHis losing the Ejisu Bye Elections”, a woman narrates encountering a group of men who inquired about their voting intentions.

The woman in a white top and blue scarf expressed frustration as the men allegedly confiscated another resident’s ID card.

And in an attempt to inquire further, things got confrontational.

“So we met this man who asked us where we are going to cast our votes. he then asked us where our ID cards were, I told him I don’t have it with me,.

Before I knew, he had snatched that of a young lady’s card and put it in their car, when I went close to ask why, he asked me, what do I want, then I asked why do they have to take her card, it doesn’t belong to you so return it” she fumed.

She cautioned that the residents of Ejisu remain vigilant and alert, monitoring closely for any signs of corruption during the ongoing voting process.

While not explicitly identifying the individuals or party responsible for suggesting the country is facing economic challenges, they levied allegations of vote-buying, labeling the accused individuals as thieves.

  • Premier League panel discovers only one VAR fault during Forest, Everton clash

Premier League panel discovers only one VAR fault during Forest, Everton clash

Independent Key Match Incidents Panel of the Premier League has determined that out of three incidents Nottingham Forest raised concerns about after their contentious 2-0 loss to Everton on April 21, only one was deemed a VAR error.

Forest expressed dissatisfaction with several penalty decisions that went against them, raising doubts about the integrity of VAR referee Stuart Attwell, who supports Luton Town—a team then embroiled in a relegation battle with Forest and Everton.

“Three extremely poor decisions — three penalties not given — which we simply cannot accept,” the club wrote on Twitter. “We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options.”

The Football Association (FA) is currently investigating a tweet by Forest, along with comments made by manager Nuno Espirito Santo and defender Neco Williams.

Additionally, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg, now employed by Forest as a consultant, has been asked to clarify statements made in a newspaper article regarding officiating.

However, according to the panel’s findings, which have been reviewed by ESPN, it was unanimously determined that a penalty claim for a foul by Ashley Young on Giovanni Reyna, as well as a subsequent handball by Young, were unfounded and should not have prompted VAR intervention.

Nevertheless, the panel did unanimously agree that Young should have been penalized with a spot kick for bringing down Callum Hudson-Odoi inside the penalty area during the second half.

The panel had a split 3-2 vote regarding referee Anthony Taylor’s decision not to award a handball against Young in the 44th minute, but unanimously voted 5-0 against a VAR intervention.

It was deemed “a very subjective call,” with Young’s arm outstretched and blocking a cross from close proximity, though his arm position was deemed justifiable.

However, in the case of the foul on Hudson-Odoi in the 55th minute, it was concluded that “Young inherited the risk by going to ground from the wrong side, and Hudson-Odoi beat him to the ball. It is a foul.”

Comprising three former players and/or coaches, along with one representative each from the Premier League and PGMOL, the panel was established at the beginning of last season to provide an independent assessment of decision-making, aiming to offer an impartial evaluation of major match incidents without relying solely on the views of PGMOL or the clubs themselves.

Spanish gov’t appoints World Cup-Winning coach Del Bosque to clean RFEF

Former Spanish national team manager Vicente del Bosque has been appointed by the Spanish government to lead a new committee overseeing the country’s RFEF football federation, announced government spokesperson Pilar Alegria on Tuesday.

This decision comes after months of turmoil within the RFEF, with Spain set to co-host the 2030 World Cup.

Last week, Spain announced the establishment of a special committee to supervise the RFEF until new elections are held.

International governing bodies FIFA and UEFA have expressed their close monitoring of the situation with significant concern.

Del Bosque, who led Spain to World Cup victory in 2010 and European Championship titles in 2008 and 2012, will now take charge of the RFEF committee.

Before his successful stint with the national team, Del Bosque enjoyed a decorated coaching career with Real Madrid, winning two Champions League trophies and two La Liga titles during his four-year tenure from 1999.

He also had a coaching spell with Besiktas.

In addition to his coaching achievements, Del Bosque had a distinguished playing career, making over 400 appearances for Real Madrid.
