2023 AFCON: Ivory Coast thumps Guinea-Bissau in a 2-0 win in opener

Ivory Coast dominated the inaugural night of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as the host nation secured a 2-0 victory against Guinea-Bissau.

The Alassane Ouattara Stadium, with its impressive 60,000-seater capacity, witnessed a vibrant opening ceremony attended by the country’s president (for whom the stadium is named) and FIFA chief Gianni Infantino.

The AFCON kicked off in the late evening humidity on the outskirts of the capital city, Abidjan.

Just four minutes into the game, Les Elephants asserted their dominance as Seko Fofana netted the tournament’s first goal with a strike into the top corner.

Despite this early lead, Guinea-Bissau, considered minnows and ranked outside the top 100 globally, proved to be a formidable opponent in the first half. They showcased slick movement and comfortable possession, challenging Ivory Coast’s superiority.

Although Fofana hit the crossbar and goalkeeper Ouparine Djoco made a superb save, Guinea-Bissau maintained their resilience.

Jean-Philippe Krasso extended Ivory Coast’s lead to 2-0 just before the hour mark, skillfully converting a chance created by Jonathan Bamba.

Relieved of the pressure from the opening night, Ivory Coast increased their attacking pace in pursuit of a third goal. However, Guinea-Bissau’s substitute, Franculino Dju, broke through one-on-one, forcing a strong save from Yahia Fofana.

Group A action continues on Sunday with Nigeria facing Equatorial Guinea, leading up to the highly anticipated clash between the Super Eagles and Ivory Coast on Thursday, marking a crucial match in the group stage.

I’m like Harry Potter – Roma coach Jose Mourinho

Following Roma’s elimination from the Coppa Italia quarterfinals with a 1-0 loss to Lazio on Wednesday, manager Jose Mourinho has playfully dubbed himself “Jose ‘Harry Potter’ Mourinho” and implied that his illustrious career has heightened fans’ expectations for the club. Mourinho expressed his belief that supporters anticipate greater achievements from him due to his successful managerial history.

“The Roma fans are the most incredible I have seen. Their coach is Jose ‘Harry Potter’ Mourinho and he raises expectations,” he said.
“I don’t know how many derbies I’ve played—200, 150—they are always special matches. I’ve won, I’ve drawn, and I’ve lost, always with a different experience.

“I have always understood that for a Chelsea fan, a game against Manchester City is not the same as a game against Arsenal. For Inter, a game against Roma is not the same as a game against Juventus.

“I understand what a derby means. The derby we played was an important derby.”
Mourinho has referenced Potter before, as he claimed he “is not Harry Potter” while manager of Real Madrid in a bid to temper expectations.

Roma is currently trailing by four points behind Fiorentina, who holds the fourth spot in the race for a spot in the Champions League next season.

Additionally, Roma has secured a place in the knockout stages of the Europa League. Although Jose Mourinho’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, he has affirmed his commitment to the club.

“I’ve been here for two years and five months and I’m the only person here who hasn’t missed a single training session in that time,” Mourinho said.
“For me, there are no illnesses or bad moods. For two and a half years, I haven’t done anything wrong, not even a couple of weeks ago when everyone was sick.

“I do not accept in any way that my professionalism and dignity, my heart for this job, can be questioned. If there is a perfect example of professionalism, it is me. I have never missed one match in over 20 years of my career.”

Chelsea poised to sign Palmeiras youngster “Messinho”

    Chelsea is reportedly prepared
to activate the €60 million release clause in the contract of 16-year-old Palmeiras winger Estevão Willian, widely known as “Messinho,” according to reports from Diario Sport.

The Blues have a dedicated focus on scouting and securing young South American talent, as evidenced by their commitment to this potential deal, with representatives from their legal department dispatched to Sao Paulo.

While Chelsea faced initial competition from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for Messinho’s signature, the French club has withdrawn interest due to the anticipated total cost of the deal, reaching €75 million, including commissions.

PSG’s sports advisor, Luis Campos, had been in Brazil, exploring moves for Messinho, Corinthians midfielder Gabriel Moscardo, and Sao Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo.

However, only the deal for Moscardo is pending completion, as Campos has communicated to Messinho’s family and representatives that PSG will not be pursuing the move.

Chelsea attempted negotiations for a more economical deal, but Palmeiras remained steadfast, citing the €60 million clause. The breakdown of the amount involves €42 million for Palmeiras and €18 million for the Estevão family.

Despite the financial commitment, Chelsea is resolute in its desire to secure the young Brazilian winger. However, per FIFA rules, Messinho would only be eligible to make the move in July 2025, upon reaching 18 years old.

  • Osebo explains why he quit being Kuami Eugene’s stylist

Osebo explains why he quit being Kuami Eugene’s stylist

Richard Brown, widely known as Osebo the Zaraman, a renowned boutique owner and socialite, has revealed the reasons behind his decision to stop styling highlife musician Kuami Eugene.

According to Osebo, there was an incident during the shooting of a music video where he suggested an outfit for Kuami Eugene. However, when the time came for the musician to wear the recommended attire, he chose to alter it without Osebo’s knowledge. This action did not sit well with Osebo, leading to their professional separation.

During an interview with Hitz FM, Osebo mentioned that despite no longer being Kuami Eugene’s stylist, he has noticed an improvement in the musician’s fashion sense, possibly influenced by the public feedback following their parting ways.

“So I invited Kuame Eugene to my shop myself, and that was when he was going to do ‘wish me well video’. We took a lot of pictures with the kind of outfit I wanted him to do the video in. If Kuame wanted to use another dress for the video or another style, he should have told me. ‘Nana, no, I want a white top, but I want to remove the hand’ that maybe I would have given him one. I invited you to my shop.

“This is what you want to do willingly; I did it. So go straight and do what I ask you to do. When I sit back and watch the video, I will be happy. But when you do it upside down, I will not enjoy it. So I will not even continue to do it again. That is how I backed off from Kuami Eugene.”

When he was asked how Kuami Eugene disregarded his instruction, he retorted, “The hand was removed; that was a posh T-shirt. Well, maybe he was young by then so he was trying to be more stylish. Now he’s doing well, unlike before.”

Osebo the Zaraman commented when he was asked to give his opinion on Kuami Eugene being chastised for the way he dresses and appears in public.

Mourinho has 30 days to ‘make magic’ at Roma or risk losing his job – Reports

Jose Mourinho’s position is reportedly hanging in the balance, with a strict 30-day deadline set for him to reverse the fortunes of the struggling Giallorossi.

Despite being a favourite among fans, the board is growing increasingly frustrated with the team’s lacklustre performance on the field.

While Mourinho secured the UEFA Europa Conference League title, ending a 14-year trophy drought in his first season and reaching another European final, consecutive sixth-place finishes in Serie A have thwarted their entry into the UEFA Champions League.

Hopes of reaching the European elite in the 2024–25 season have been dashed by a dismal start, leaving them in eighth place in the league standings after five months.

Mourinho is reportedly on shaky ground, and Francesco Balzani has indicated that the manager has a one-month ultimatum to reposition the team in the top-four race. With his contract set to expire in the summer, an extension might be denied if results do not improve.

The club has contingency plans, considering Daniele de Rossi as an interim option, while Raffaele Palladino and Vincenzo Montella are being monitored as potential alternatives.

Mourinho faced disciplinary action twice within a week, receiving red cards during Roma’s matches against Atalanta and Lazio in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, respectively, due to his excessive reactions against match officials.

However, the fans have stood by him and even unfurled a tifo in the Olimpico that read: “Eyes intoxicated with red and yellow, a soul filled with romanismo…Jose Mourinho Romanista for life!”

Mourinho was floored by such warmth and he publicly admitted that he wants to continue at Roma
“I haven’t spoken to the owners but I want to continue coaching Roma; the fans are unique,” he said. “A separation would be hard for me. And if a separation ever happens, it would not be my decision.”

Mourinho is once again grappling with third-season challenges at Roma, and he faces the daunting task of steering the Giallorossi back to success. His upcoming journey will be no cakewalk, with the team set to face AC Milan at San Siro in the Italian top flight.

However, a victory against the Rossoneri could offer Mourinho the much-needed breathing room. Currently trailing by four points behind fourth-placed Fiorentina, a consistent improvement in performance over the next few months may be sufficient to secure his elusive fourth season in the Italian capital.

  • Cheddar reveals plans to bring a panther and some lions to Ghana

Cheddar reveals plans to bring a panther and some lions to Ghana

Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar
and aspiring for the presidency, has defended his controversial decision to import two tiger cubs into Ghana, which drew criticism for housing them at his residence.

He explained that his intention behind bringing in the tigers was to contribute to Ghana’s tourism industry and demonstrate that such exotic animals can be responsibly kept within the country and the broader African continent.

Cheddar, speaking in an interview with JoyNews on January 12, 2024, emphasised that the inclusion of the tigers aligns with his broader goals, and he plans to expand his collection to include a panther and several lions in the near future.

“For big cats. I just thought that having two tigers in Africa, people in Asia were saying that they will never survive in this part of Africa, which is the west, the east and the north. I was challenged to prove to them that, look, if my goat can survive in Asia, then why can your animals in Asia survive in Africa? So that’s why I went to bid for the animals, bought them, and brought them.

“I brought them because I wanted to create a zoo for them. I thought that creating a shelter for such animals also is part of my accruements, things that I have to do in life, and that’s not the end of it. I want to bring in a panther. I’m going to bring in some lions. I think that in the tourist world, there is more we can do. That industry, the tourism industry, has room for these things,” he said.

The businessman also bragged about his tigers, making Ghana the envy of many nations in Africa because just a handful of African countries have them.

“And I think right now, as we speak in Africa, apart from South Africa, Ghana is the only country that is with these two tigers. When you go to Nigeria, to Kenya, to everywhere, and I think the country should be proud, more so than I am, they should be proud that we have, that maybe we’re about to even breed them,” he said.

He added that these wild animals can even be given to other African countries after they are bred as a sign of unity.

“We’ll be the first country that will be able to give away tigers to countries like Nigeria and Kenya. I’m into unity. I’m into doing all of these things.”

    Cheddar also revealed
that the two tiger cubs remain alive and in good health, and a zoo for them has now been constructed.

According to a BBC report from November 28, 2023, Cheddar’s fully grown pet tigers are still housed at his residence in the Wonder World Estate in Accra.

The Agba family, who initially reported to authorities about the presence of the wild animals, remains concerned that the tigers have not been relocated.

As per the report, the court sided with the Agba family, who share a garden with Cheddar, and ruled that the tigers should be moved. The court directed the Forestry Commission, responsible for wildlife, to carry out the relocation within three days in November 2022.

However, lawyers representing the Forestry Commission informed the court that the animals could only be moved once Cheddar completes the construction of an enclosure at another location to house them.

Afua Asantewaa eyeing four more Guinness World records after sing-a-thon

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, the young Ghanaian woman who recently concluded her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon, has announced her intention to apply for four additional World Records related to her singing marathon.

She firmly believes that she meets the criteria for these records.

Afua Asantewaa plans to submit applications for being recognised as the first Ghanaian and African female to perform continuously for five days, achieving the longest-lasting musical event in both Ghana and Africa, hosting the first musical show to feature eight DJs in continuous performance over five days, and becoming the first female to undertake a singing marathon.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Afua Asantewaa explained that her recently completed singing marathon satisfies the criteria for these additional records, and she intends to submit each application separately to the Guinness World Records office.

“I think the current attempt I did captures four records, but many haven’t paid attention.

“There are many records that I have broken, but you have to apply for them separately. Currently, we are doing for the longest singing marathon, but it applies to four or five records on their platforms.

“We have submitted the current one, but we are now going to look into the others. We will submit them separately,” she said.

In December 2023, Afua Asantewaa undertook a challenge to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

At the Akwaaba Village in Accra, she dedicated 126 hours and 52 minutes to her singing feat, garnering support from a team of professionals and an enthusiastic crowd of fans.

Throughout her attempt, Afua faced various challenges, including voice strain, fatigue, technical issues, and controversies. Despite these hurdles, she successfully overcame them and reached her goal.

Notably, she exceeded the previous record of 105 hours, which was set by an Indian singer in 2012.

Having completed the marathon, Afua Asantewaa has submitted the necessary evidence of her remarkable achievement to the Guinness World Records for thorough verification and official confirmation.

We are in deep trouble if GHC 19million debt can push us into ‘dumsor’, says John Jinapor

John Abdulai Jinapor, who serves as the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee, has expressed concern about the ongoing power issues in the country.

He emphasised that the debts owed to power suppliers are insufficient to justify the current sporadic power outages.

In recent times, Ghanaians have experienced disruptions in power supply following the announcement by the Electricity Company of Ghana about the commencement of repair work.

According to John Jinapor, the outstanding amount owed to the West African Pipeline Company (WAPCo) is not substantial enough to be the cause of load shedding.

“Indeed, if $19 million is a major problem, then we have a serious problem to deal with. If $19 million can lead to this situation, then we have a huge problem as a country because I thought that a country the size of Ghana and given our GDP, $19 million should not lead to a load shedding of about 600 megawatts,” he said, as quoted by myjoyonline.com.

“If the Ministry of Finance mismanages the economy and the cedi depreciates to the level we saw, then the government must be willing and ready to make that payment,” he added.

The government is currently indebted to the West African Pipeline Company (WAPCo) in the amount of $19 million. Deputy Minister of Energy, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, revealed that the government has already cleared $13 million of the owed sum, leaving an outstanding balance of $6 million.

Egyapa Mercer further stated that discussions are underway between the government and WAPCo to formulate a payment schedule for the remaining $6 million.

Henderson linked with shocking Juventus move – Reports

Jordan Henderson is reportedly being considered for a surprising January transfer to Juventus, just a few months after his controversial move to the Saudi Pro League.

Gianluca Di Marzio states that Juventus is interested in Henderson to bolster their squad and has initiated contact regarding a potential loan deal.

Despite being with Al-Ettifaq for a short time, Henderson is reportedly seeking an 18-month loan, aligning with the initial part of his 2+1 contract with the Saudi club.

Recently labelled as ‘desperate’ to return to the Premier League due to disappointing results, lacklustre crowds, and rumoured difficulties adapting both on and off the pitch, Henderson’s potential departure could lead to significant financial consequences.

Leaving now might mean giving up substantial wages and facing a substantial tax bill, as the ‘tax-free’ incentive in his contract activates only after two years in Saudi Arabia.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wb9r89W8Yww

This move has led to a tarnished reputation, with Henderson perceived to have sacrificed his principles for financial gain, especially given his previous visible support for LGBTQ+ rights.

Initial reports from his July move suggested Henderson’s Saudi Arabian contract, spanning up to three years, is valued at nearly £700,000 ($892,000) per week—more than three times his Liverpool salary.

A departure in January could potentially result in him having to repay £7 million ($9 million) in taxes.

Despite continued selections by England manager Gareth Southgate, Henderson may view a return to an elite league as crucial for his chances of playing a significant role in Euro 2024.

Juventus, on the other hand, might need to offload a player to accommodate the 33-year-old, with Moise Kean being mentioned by Di Marzio as a possible candidate for departure.

“My partner and I we just wanted that badge; you know myself and my partner and we have managed to pay it off because we realised that we were becoming slaves to the loan; it is a tough thing and now I am quite that free,” he said.

Meanwhile, according to a report by independentghana.com, the development of the Number 1 Oxford Street hotel received partial funding from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a division of the World Bank Group.

Renowned for aiding private businesses in developing nations, the IFC provided investment for the project, which involved two companies, Cola Group and Wonda World Estate, both associated with Cheddar, securing the necessary financial support.

It looks like Partey is going to be replaced soon – Arsenal Ray Parlour

Ray Parlour, a former Arsenal midfielder, has suggested that Thomas Partey may be on the verge of leaving the club due to persistent injury issues.

Partey, who hasn’t featured in a Premier League game for Arsenal since October, was also ruled out of the African Cup of Nations with Ghana due to ongoing problems.

His injury-prone history has resulted in significant periods of absence during his time in north London.

Despite currently being in Dubai for warm-weather training with the team, it remains uncertain when the 30-year-old, formerly of Atletico Madrid, will be fit for selection.

Speaking to BettingSites.co.uk, Parlour said: “I think Thomas Partey is the big question because it looks like he’s going to be on his way. You need to replace him, which is difficult. When he’s in the team, he’s a decent player in that central midfield area.”

Partey has featured in just four league matches and five overall in all competitions.

  • We have written to the EC twice, but we have yet to get a response – Cheddar on political party application

We have written to the EC twice, but we have yet to get a response – Cheddar on political party application

Nana Kwame Bediako, an independent presidential aspirant, expressed his intention to establish a political party to pursue his presidential ambitions.

However, his plans faced an obstacle due to what he perceives as the Electoral Commission’s delayed response. The real estate mogul disclosed on JoyNews’ AM Show that his team had completed all constitutional requirements and submitted an application to register his political party with the EC.

Despite fulfilling these requirements, Cheddar, as he is also known, has not received any response from the EC after three months of filing his application.

This is despite the I992 constitution stating in Act 574 (8)(2) that “The commission shall, not later than seven days after the receipt of application, issue to the political party a provisional certificate of registration and shall cause a notice of the application to be published in the Gazette after receipt, inviting objections from any person, concerning the name, aim, objects, constitution, rules, symbols, slogans and colours of the party.”

Nana Kwame Bediako noted that while he has fulfilled all constitutional requirements, the EC has not been forthcoming with a response.

“We do have a manifesto. We have a manifesto, we have a constitution and we have built 16 offices in the 16 regions. We’ve read the constitution and we’ve followed what we had to do—put in the application for a political party—but we were not responded to by the EC.

“After the seven days, when you pay and submit after the seven days, it’s been three months. We wrote a letter again and they haven’t responded,” he said.

Despite the delay in the Electoral Commission’s response, Nana Kwame Bediako remains optimistic about a positive outcome for his political party registration application. While anticipating the EC’s confirmation, he emphasised his commitment to pursue his presidential ambition independently, focusing on crucial issues for Ghana’s development.

“But I hope that the EC can hear me and say that let’s respond to this young man and we’re supposed to give him his provisional license so you know – if they had given us that we’ll be talking about the actual party and using the logos and using maybe our mottos and slogans and stuff like that.

“But since that has not happened, it doesn’t mean that it should stop the conversation or stop the mission or even restrict the vision. We’re still going ahead, we’re still going ahead with the New Force Movement,” he said.

  • It couldn’t have been none other than Chef Eric

It couldn’t have been none other than Chef Eric

Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak stunned the people of Ghana with yet another extraordinary feat that illuminated the vibrant food culture of the country and drew people from all walks of life together. On the sidelines were also were elaborate cultural demonstrations of the Ghanaian way of dressing, drumming, dancing, and singing, not to mention the wide selection of music that got many on their feet. Bringing so much delight to me was the customary hospitality of Ghanaians that was also displayed.

What we all witnessed over the ten days was a woman’s unwavering desire and determination as she soldiered on in her quest to break the World Record for the longest cooking marathon. Saying she soldiered on is apt since it was probably the least a military wife could do. Graciously, Chef Faila completed her task, which she said was a national assignment for Mother Ghana, at a staggering-record-awing 227 hours!

Some have touted the year 2024 as the year of a-thons as we see media reports of hundreds of applications to the Guinness World Records for attempts to set or break a record or other. We cannot deny that Hilda Baci started this trend when she broke the record for the longest cooking marathon in June 2023. But we have taken over! Wink wink.

But if you could read beyond the pomp, pageantry, and even rivalry, I’m confident you would discover that these record-breaking attempts have an influence that goes beyond the Guinness World Records. They act as a lighthouse, inspiring chefs and anyone who possesses a unique talent to bring it out for a global audience, as they leverage the unique culture of Ghana and Africa to do exploits.

Now the main meat that I want to share with you. I listened to Chef Faila through her press conference a few hours after her phenomenal achievement. I couldn’t be any less impressed by how she looked after an enduring 10 days of cooking. Eii! Can I borrow her genes? While she spoke, I was particularly interested in what she would say about someone whom many referred to as her ABLE assistant, the sous chef during the cooking marathon, Chef Malik Eric. Mehn! That man won the hearts of many too!

He was ever present and ever cheerful. The lending hand he gave Chef Faila, as well as the moral and prayer support throughout, were evident for all to see. Even from afar, I saw someone who was selfless and had a heart of gold. There was some genuineness about him and you could see it reflected on his face. He did not try to overshadow Chef Faila, He stayed in his corner, attending to his duties, and shone right there.

Chef Eric, as we would learn is a professional chef at Tacoraba Restaurant based in Tamale, the town where the cook-a-thon took place. One notable thing Chef Faila said about Chef Eric was the fact that he was always available to support her with her work whenever she needed help, even though they did not work together. This was way before embarking on the cook-a-thon project. Eric would sacrifice his nights to help Chef Faila meet the food orders she received in her restaurant. He would run night shifts with Faila’s team to ensure Chef Faila met her client’s expectations, without reluctance. From what Faila said, he was always selfless and sacrificial.

Chef Faila proudly shared with the world that she and Chef Eric had come a long way. Years and months earlier when Chef Eric helped, supported, and sacrificed for Chef Faila, he didn’t know a day like this would come when he would share in Chef Faila’s glory. Faila told us that she would have dealt wrongly with Eric should she have looked elsewhere when she was looking for someone with whom to stand on the big platform. Her words: “He deserved it. In the dark he was there, [so when I was] in the open, I needed to drag him along with me.” Poignant, isn’t it?

I often encourage individuals to perform small acts of self-sacrifice. People frequently expect instant benefits from whatever they do for other people. Every action they take that helps someone has to have a price, forgetting that due seasons bring rewards. These days when your car breaks down and someone helps you tow it to a safer side of the road, be sure to hear: “Madam, give me coins to buy water to drink eh”. In the past, offering assistance was an automatic reaction when you saw someone, especially an adult, walking with a load on the road. We occasionally had no choice but to carry goods and travel distances we regretted, but we did not have a choice. That was the custom; it was an obligation. These days young people will stylishly walk past you even when your face is screaming “Help me!”

Let’s be sacrificial a little, be it at home, at work or in the church, or any social setting we find ourselves in. Sometimes the rewards come readily, other times they come later. Yet in certain instances, the rewards don’t come from where you expected them to come from. Let me shock you further, sometimes you will even be betrayed by the same people you sacrificed for and did good to. But let me assure you, you can even reap them from where you have not sown. Yes, you can reap your blessings elsewhere. Just consider how people have been kind to you because of what your parents did for them years back and rest assured that the blessing (reward) will surely come.

Someone once told me about something that his father used to tell him based on a Ga saying, and it was the fact that the one who rubs oil or pomade on the King’s body will also have some (residue) left on his hands to rub on himself. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Indeed, “Life is an echo. What you send out, comes back. What you sow, you reap. What you give, you get. What you see in others, exists in you. Remember, life is an echo. It always gets back at you. So, give goodness” Zig Ziglar, in his book: See You at the Top.

  • SSNIT withholds pension funds of 19,100 over failure to do biometric authentication

SSNIT withholds pension funds of 19,100 over failure to do biometric authentication

SSNIT withholds pension funds of 19,100 over failure to do biometric authentication

Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has retained GH¢480 million, representing funds for 19,100 pensioners who have not undergone biometric authentication.

The Director-General of SSNIT, Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang, revealed this information during a press conference in Accra, stating that SSNIT is prepared to reimburse the funds when those individuals comply with the biometric authentication process.

He emphasised that SSNIT’s pension scheme obligates the organisation to continue pension payments until the pensioner’s demise.

    Death

He said if a person passed away before the age of 72 for those under PNDC Law 247 and 75 for those under the National Pensions Act, 2008 (Act 766), the trust had to pay some money to his or her survivors.

“But if you live beyond those years, then we don’t have to pay anything to your survivors and every month, our operation is that we pay monies directly into your bank account.

“So what we need to do is make sure that we find a way to ascertain that we are actually paying legitimate pensioners. So we asked our cherished pensioners every year to let us know that they are alive,” he said.

That, the SSNIT boss said, was done by asking them to report to the SSNIT officer to biometrically authenticate them and that it was mindful of the fact that there were people who might not have mobility challenges and then could not be able to visit a SSNIT office.

    Arrangements

In view of that, he said, there were alternative arrangements where “if you call us we would come to where you are and we would biometrically authenticate you”.

He said for people who had not come to authenticate themselves, “whose money we have withheld, we have about GH¢480 million so far”.

“There’s GH¢480 million that we could have paid out that we have not paid.

“This is because those people to whom it belongs have not come back to tell us that they are alive. So that is what we call ghost pensions,” he emphasised, and “as and when they resurrect, we stand ready to pay them,” he said.

    Background

In 2014, participants in the SSNIT pension scheme, including retirees, were instructed to undergo biometric registration. This phased exercise, conducted in collaboration with employers, aimed to collect biometric data from existing contributors and generate 13 alphanumeric social security numbers for those with eight-digit numbers.

Additionally, the project sought to gather additional information on existing policyholders of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and individuals registered with the National Identification Authority (NIA).

The biometric data collected would facilitate swift and straightforward verification of the identities of SSNIT contributors in the future.

SSNIT, a statutory public Trust established under the National Pensions Act, 2008 Act 766, is entrusted with administering Ghana’s Basic National Social Security Scheme. Its mandate includes overseeing the First Tier of the Three-Tier Pension Scheme, making it the largest non-bank financial institution in Ghana.

The Trust’s primary responsibility is to replace a portion of lost income for Ghanaian workers due to Old Age, Invalidity, or Death, with dependents receiving lump-sum payments. It is also tasked with providing Emigration benefits to non-Ghanaian members leaving Ghana permanently.

Established in 1972 under NRCD 127 to administer the National Social Security Scheme, SSNIT originally operated as a Provident Fund Scheme. In 1991, it transitioned into a Social Insurance Pension Scheme governed by PNDC Law 247.

Subsequently, Act 766 of 2008 reformed the pension scheme in Ghana, replacing all existing schemes, including Cap 30. In 2014, the National Pensions (Amendment) Act 883 further modified certain provisions of Act 766.

GTV, DSTV at war over AFCON coverage

In an animated interaction on Twitter, Ghana Television (GTV) and DSTV Ghana engaged in a friendly yet competitive marketing exchange on Friday regarding the broadcasting rights for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

The social media banter began with GTV announcing their coverage of all Afcon matches, aiming to offer viewers an excellent football-watching experience. GTV questioned the rationale for viewers paying to watch when they could access all matches for free.

However, the banter took an unexpected turn when DSTV Ghana responded with a controversial tweet, questioning whether viewers would prefer watching Afcon matches with poor quality.

“Don’t settle for terrible picture quality, poor sound or anything below standard,” DSTV Ghana tweeted, suggesting that viewers should opt for high-definition pictures on Supersport.

The banter continued between the two broadcast channels until netizens concluded it was a spice to the rivalry between the Ghana national broadcaster and the satellite television giant over the Afcon broadcast, even though the tweets did not mention the names of each of the brands.

As the banter continues to unfold, football enthusiasts eagerly await the resolution of this Twitter showdown, wondering which network will emerge victorious in securing the hearts and screens of the nation for the highly anticipated Afcon tournament.

  • Auditor-General pays GH¢9.5m into Consolidated Fund

Auditor-General pays GH¢9.5m into Consolidated Fund

The Auditor-General has transferred GH¢9.5 million, obtained from disallowed expenditures highlighted in various reports, into the Consolidated Fund.

This brings the total amount transferred to the Consolidated Fund to GH¢19.5 million during the 2023 fiscal year from the special account, known as the ‘Auditor-General’s Recoveries Account,’ established at the Bank of Ghana (BoG) in June 2022. As of the end of December 2023, the account had accumulated over GH19.7 million.

The funds recovered are associated with expenditure disallowances related to unearned salaries and other financial recoveries reported to Parliament through various Auditors-General’s reports.

    Protecting public purse

The Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, revealed to Graphic Online/Daily Graphic in Accra last Wednesday that the dedicated account was established with the specific goal of safeguarding public funds. It serves to monitor the real-time progress of recoveries made through expenditure disallowances.

“The Auditor-General’s Recoveries Account was opened at the Bank of Ghana in June 2022, mainly to receive unearned salaries and allowances recovered,” he said.

Mr Asiedu said that until June 2022, the Auditor-General’s recommendations for recoveries of unearned salaries had always been directed into the Controller and Accountant-General’s Suspense Account (CAGSA). However, he said the CAGSA could not provide real-time information on those recoveries, making efforts of enforce the rules on surcharging and disallowances appear to be yielding fewer positive results.

“It is in the light of this that the Auditor-General’s Recoveries Account was opened to track and report on recoveries made in implementing audit recommendations with regard to unearned salaries and allowances,” Mr Asiedu said.

    Infractions

Each year, the Auditor-General’s reports to Parliament were often replete with issues of infractions in the use of public funds.

Article 187(7)(b) of the 1992 Constitution provided that in the performance of its functions, the Auditor-General might disallow any item of expenditure which was contrary to law and surcharge the amount of any expenditure disallowed upon the person responsible for incurring or authorising the expenditure.

Disallowance of expenditure normally leads to the Auditor-General recommending recovery from individuals, public officers and institutions that committed infractions.

It was through the same process of disallowing expenditure contrary to law that the service recovered over GH¢2.2 billion between 2017 and 2020.

    Timely reports

Mr. Asiedu mentioned that the Auditor-General’s Office had fulfilled the constitutional requirement by submitting 22 audit reports to Parliament in 2023. He highlighted that the effective measures implemented at the Audit Service under the current administration have consistently yielded positive outcomes.

This has facilitated the Auditor-General’s ability to submit audited reports to Parliament within the constitutional deadline for three consecutive years. As a result, 18 audit reports were presented in 2021, 15 reports in 2022, and 22 reports in 2023, underscoring the significance of timely production of audited reports.

    Appreciation

The Auditor-General expressed appreciation to the government and the Minister of Finance for the timely release of funds to the Audit Service to facilitate the discharge of its constitutional mandate.

“I also thank the staff of the Audit Service for their diligent and dedicated work.

“The Audit Service will continue to promote good governance, transparency, accountability and probity in the country’s public financial management system,” Mr Asiedu added.

The group underscored Dr. Bawumia’s significant contributions to Mamprugu, urging the youth to actively support his electoral success, which would mark a historic achievement for the region. Previously, the group appealed to the Vice President for the construction of a bridge connecting Arigu to the Shiling community.

As the special guest at the Congress, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia highlighted various developmental projects in the region. These initiatives encompass the establishment of the STEM Senior High School at Kpasenkpe, the Fire Service Training School at Wungu, and the ongoing construction of roads in Walewale, Nalerigu, and Gambaga towns.

Private health facilities issue warning to stop accepting private health insurance over govt’s debt

Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana has issued a strong warning, indicating its intention to stop accepting Private Health Insurance in the near future.

This decision is prompted by the National Health Insurance Authority’s failure to regulate Private Insurance Companies, leading to outstanding debts owed to the association’s members.

The association states that this has resulted in their inability to meet financial obligations such as paying salaries and procuring essential medical and non-medical supplies.

Speaking to Citi News, the General Secretary of the Association, Frank Torbu, emphasised that the grace period for resolution is long overdue and places the responsibility on the government to ensure timely payments from private insurance companies.

“It wouldn’t be long; we will take them on. We won’t accept their cards when they visit our facilities, and I make it categorically clear that we don’t even need them to survive as a healthcare provider, but they need us to be in business.”

Frank-Torbu further added, “So those companies that have been signing on to these private health insurance companies, thinking that they are safe, I can tell you for sure that you are not at all because when we trigger that, we are no longer going to accept them in our facilities, premised on the fact that the insurance company they are bringing to our facilities, that is where they would begin to see the wrong in what the insurance companies are doing.”

“It is the responsibility of the government to ensure that whichever company they give credentials, accreditation or a licence to operate as a private health insurance company in this country lives up to expectations, but that is not what the government is doing—I mean the National Health Insurance Authority,” he revealed.

  • Ghana finalises deal with creditors on debt resolution—Reports

Ghana finalises deal with creditors on debt resolution—Reports

Ghana has successfully concluded negotiations with the Paris Club on debt treatment, clearing the path for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to disburse the upcoming tranche of $600 million to Ghana.

An insider familiar with the talks revealed to Graphic Business that the approval and disbursement of this tranche would also activate an additional $500 million in support from the World Bank, aimed at providing economic relief for Ghana.

The Ministry of Finance is expected to issue an official statement confirming these developments. This agreement with Ghana’s official creditors sets the stage for the IMF Executive Board to greenlight the release of $600 million as part of its $3 billion bailout program.

Additional details reported by Reuters reveal that discussions surrounding the “cut-off date,” indicating the point beyond which new loans with bilateral creditors won’t undergo restructuring, recently became a point of contention in the negotiations.

Bilateral lenders, including China and France, which co-chair the Official Creditor Committee (OCC), hold approximately 25% of Ghana’s $20 billion external debt slated for restructuring.

There were divergent views among creditors, with some favouring December 31, 2022, as the cut-off date, considering Ghana’s default earlier that month.

Others advocated for March 24, 2020, the initiation of the Group of 20’s debt service suspension initiative (DSSI), designed to aid the world’s poorest nations amid the challenges posed by the COVID crisis. Ghana didn’t participate in the DSSI.

No immediate responses were received from China’s central bank, finance ministry, and the Export-Import Bank of China to Reuters’ requests for comment.

Formal acceptance of the proposal by Ghana is still pending.

As per one source, the OCC plan envisions no reduction in principal or interest rates overall. However, Ghana is expected to abstain from payments for the next four years, with regular payments resuming thereafter.

After their meeting on Monday, official creditors reportedly shared the term sheet of their proposal with Ghana, as per media reports and insider sources.

Speaking about a possible deal with official creditors, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta told Bloomberg he hoped to finish reviewing the draft term sheet by Friday and that “in terms of the broad framework, all parties are in agreement,” which he said would allow the IMF to sign off on the disbursement.

  • BBC documentary: Traitors! Let’s protect our own,the world would never do this – Agradaa blasts Christians

Evangelist Mama Part, widely known as Agradaa, strongly criticized Christians who are condemning the late Prophet TB Joshua in the wake of a documentary released by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

Expressing deep disappointment, she rebuked individuals claiming to be Christians but who are tarnishing the reputation of the deceased prophet, emphasising that despite his passing, his ministry continues to face unwarranted attacks.

Nana Agradaa asserted that the documentary, which outlines alleged wrongdoings by the late prophet, should not serve as a basis for others to vilify him. She highlighted that TB Joshua devoted his life to preaching the word of God.

In a TikTok live session, Nana Agradaa strongly rebuked Christians who believe the details presented in the BBC documentary and criticise TB Joshua.

“Let’s stand for the kingdom of God. The late TB Joshua was a man of God. He preaches the word of God for the world to know about Jesus. Today, he is dead and there is controversy about him. Why can’t we stand for the kingdom of God and defend our home? Christians!

“I am sad; let’s stand up for our family. Traditionalists and those who belong to the world would never do this; they will always protect their kingdom. Go and read Mark 3:25. And start thinking about what God said. Let’s stand for our own. TB Joshua is a man of God,” she said.

Her remarks follow the release of a BBC documentary that highlights alleged misconduct within the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), under the leadership of the late Prophet TB Joshua.

The documentary, generating extensive discussions, reveals incidents of sexual abuse, accusations of rape, and manipulations related to miracles within SCOAN.

The documentary has elicited varied responses, with some individuals criticising the late prophet while others questioning the credibility of the allegations made against him.

2023 AFCON: GFA confirms Black Stars “do not have any injury worries”

Henry Asante Twum, the spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association, has affirmed that the Black Stars are currently free from any injury concerns as they prepare for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations opener against Cape Verde.

While the team had a few players sidelined with minor injuries, such as star player Kudus Mohammed, who missed the Kumasi camping and the friendly against Namibia, Asante Twum assured that all players are now free from injuries and the situation is well-managed.

“Everything is under control. We do not have any injury worries whatsoever in camp,” he said.

In the Namibia friendly, Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo and RC Lens midfielder Salis Abdul Samed were excluded from the squad due to minor issues.

The pair, along with Kudus, returned to full training a day after the friendly before embarking on the trip to Ivory Coast.

Ghana is scheduled to play against Cape Verde in a Group B match at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny on January 14, 2024, with a kickoff time of 20:00 GMT.

Pictures: “Nananom” gather to witness Offinsohene swears oath of allegiance to Asantehene

On Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, the newly installed paramount chief of the Offinso Traditional Area (Offinsomanhene), took an oath of allegiance to Sikadwa (the Golden Stool), Asantehene, and Asanteman Council.

The act of swearing allegiance to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II by Offinsomanhene signifies the authority that the Asantehene holds over him and the Offinso Traditional Area.

The event was attended by other prominent paramount chiefs of Asanteman, including Sampamanhene Nana Samgba Gyafla II, Seikwamanhene Nana Kwaku Dwumah Ankoana II Fiaprahene, Tuabodommanhene Nana Agyei Kooko Beyeeman, Berekummanhemaa Nana Akosua Ameyaahene, and Goasomanhene Nana Akwasi Bosomprah.

Before the swearing of the oath to Otumfuo, Nana Dwamena Akenten II was carried in a palanquin through the main streets of Manhyia.

The filling of the Offinso Stool had been a significant topic in the media after the Asantehene rejected Offinsohemaa Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko’s choice of Dr. K. K. Sarpong, the former chief executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC), as the successor.

After months of discussions, the traditional leaders nominated Nana Amoako Poku, a 68-year-old royal of the Offinso Ahyirem Royal Family, as the Offinsomanhene, a decision accepted by the Asantehene after Offinsohemaa’s refusal.

The removal of Offinsohemaa herself has been implemented by the Asantehene.

Parliament drags Akufo-Addo to court over refusal to sign Witchcraft, Armed Forces Bills

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has disclosed parliament’s intention to seek legal interpretation regarding President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s decision not to sign certain bills passed by the House, citinewsroom.com reports.

In 2023, President Akufo-Addo declined to sign the Criminal Offences Bill of 2022, the Witchcraft Bill, and the Armed Forces Bill of 2023, citing financial implications as the rationale for his refusal.

Speaker Bagbin emphasised that the constitutionality of the bills is solely within the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.

He asserted that any allegations of misuse should be contested before the Supreme Court and not addressed unilaterally by the president.

President Akufo-Addo, pinpointing the Ghana Armed Forces Amendment Bill, sponsored by MP Francis-Xavier Sosu, highlighted financial concerns related to replacing the death penalty with life imprisonment.

In response, Speaker Bagbin stated, “The determination of any unconstitutionality is the sole purview of the Supreme Court, not the president.”
He further explained that if there were apprehensions about Parliament exceeding its constitutional authority, the correct course of action would be to bring a legal challenge before the Supreme Court, rather than the executive unilaterally declaring it unconstitutional.

He added, “Again, the constitutional discretion vested in the presiding officer of parliament, as per Article 108 and subject to Article 296, suggests that any allegations of misuse of this discretion should be contested in a court of competent jurisdiction rather than being pre-emptively adjudicated upon by the president.”

Dam spillage: Ablakwa impersonators to face court on January 17

The court has scheduled January 17, 2024, as the date for the plea of two individuals who are currently remanded for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting Ghanaians by impersonating Member of Parliament (MP) Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa of North Tongu.

This decision followed their second appearance at the Criminal Division of the High Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, where they were remanded once again. Promise Ahorgah, a phone repairer, and Kwaotse Mawuli, a building construction labourer, allegedly created social media accounts in the name of the MP to fraudulently solicit funds for victims affected by the Akosombo and Kpong Dam Spillage.

The accused were arrested on December 13 and are facing six provisional counts, including defrauding by false pretenses, charlatanic advertisement, and falsely pretending to be a public officer. On December 15, the court did not accept their plea, citing ongoing investigations.

    Brief facts:

Per the brief facts of the case, the complainant in this case is the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and a resident of Accra.

It states that the first accused person is a mobile phone repairer, while the second accused person is a building construction labourer.

The prosecution said following the Akosombo and Kpong Dam spillage and the flooding of certain parts of the Volta Region, the complainant developed a flyer with the inscription ‘North Tongu MP’s Disaster Donation Drive,’ with a short code of *713*75#, requesting good Samaritans to donate in aid of the flood victims.

The prosecution stated that the 1st and 2nd accused persons, with intent to defraud, took copies of the complainant’s flyer on Facebook, modified the flyer, and inserted their respective phone numbers in the modified flyer.

“Holding themselves out as the complainant and causing the general public to wrongly believe they were the complainant, the 1st and 2nd accused persons published the fake and deceitful flyers on social media platforms requesting the general public to make cash donations into their mobile phone numbers 0535623416 and 0535364971, respectively, which each of the accused persons had stated on the fake and deceitful flyers,” the prosecution said.

The brief facts added that the 1st and 2nd accused persons again used the names and photographs of the complainant to create several social media accounts, personated the MP, and communicated with several people to solicit donations into their mobile money accounts.

“Through their acts of personation and publication of deceitful advertisements with the intent to defraud, the 1st and 2nd accused persons succeeded in causing members of the public to send to them sums of money,” the Court was told.

The Prosecution said the complainant, who chanced on the fake flyer on social media, petitioned the National Signals Bureau and the accused persons were arrested.

Both 1st and 2nd accused persons admitted to the offences when interrogated.

“Investigation is still ongoing,” the prosecution said.

  • I could have beaten Kennedy in the spiritual realm if I wanted to – Obinim on feud with MP

I could have beaten Kennedy in the spiritual realm if I wanted to – Obinim on feud with MP

Founder and leader of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has revealed that his feud with Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, has resulted in the near collapse of his church.

According to him, when attacks from Ken started, he thought he could stand up to him, as he had the strength.

Little did he know that his perceived strength was a spiritual one, as against Ken, who was waging a physical war (legal) against him and his ministry.

While addressing the challenges he’s currently facing in running his church in a TikTok live on January 11, 2024, he mentioned, “My brother Kennedy Agyapong orchestrated a fight with me, and that was how the story started. When I assessed my strength, I could have beaten Kennedy Agyapong and still have more energy in me, but not knowing my strength had to do with spiritual strength, he was fighting me in the physical realm where he was more fit than me,” Bishop Obinim said.

It all started when Obinim was reported to have announced having a cure for COVID-19, a claim that he denied. However, Kennedy Agyapong, who is known for his criticism of some pastors, vowed to expose the ills in Obinim’s ministry.

Obinim, in response, challenged the MP to go ahead with his expose, a challenge that he seems to have regretted now.

The religious leader stated that he dismissed divine warnings against the confrontation, perceiving it only as a spiritual battle.

“I was challenging him, even though God was speaking to me to stop what I was doing. I thought I could have won, so I persisted in fighting him.

“While I focused on the spiritual, he focused on the physical. It was only later that I realised I was in the hands of National Security, EOCO, BNI, Police CID, and SIU.

He then went on to warn netizens against waging war against powerful individuals if they lack the means to do so.

  • COCOBOD Anti-Illegal Mining Team clashes with Police officers believed to be aiding illegal miners

COCOBOD Anti-Illegal Mining Team clashes with Police officers believed to be aiding illegal miners

On Thursday, January 11, 2023, tensions escalated dramatically as a near-violent clash unfolded between the police and the anti-illegal mining unit of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) in Brofoyedru, Ashanti Region.

The COCOBOD Anti-Illegal Mining Unit was in Old Atatam and surrounding areas in the Fomena District to engage with cocoa farmers and miners, stressing the vital importance of safeguarding cocoa farms against the detrimental impacts of illegal mining.

Surprisingly, farmers and miners disclosed that a group of police officers had been extorting money from illegal miners on a weekly basis, effectively endorsing and facilitating illicit mining activities.

The situation intensified when ten police officers from the Obuasi District Command, in a police vehicle with the registration number GP 3401, were observed returning from the illegal mining sites.

Efforts by COCOBOD officials to interrogate the police personnel further fueled the confrontation, leading to a chase.

Upon reaching a police barrier at Brofoyedru, a vehicle carrying a COCOBOD official, positioned ahead of the team, stopped to block the escaping police vehicle.

The escalation took a dangerous turn when the police threatened to open fire on COCOBOD officials if they did not yield.

Despite the police’s attempts to conceal their identity, the COCOBOD Anti-Illegal Mining team successfully documented the vehicle details, including registration number GP 3401, and identified two officers involved—P. A. Abdellah and one Amidu.

“The COCOBOD team was informed that the Police have arrived, going around taking money and removing parts of the excavators from the miners. The Police later met COCOBOD officials on their way who tried to stop them but the police refused, Upon reaching a barrier at Brofoyedur, they were obstructed by one of COCOBOD’s vehicles and the two teams clashed, One of the Senior Police Officers threatened to shoot the COCOBOD officers in the heat of confrontation.” Head of COCOBOD’s team, Prof. Michael Kwateng, narrated.

Prof. Michael Kwateng, who leads the COCOBOD Anti-Illegal Mining Unit, emphasised the multitude of reports implicating the police in illegal mining activities. This has caused distress among farmers as their cocoa farms continue to face incessant invasions.

Nevertheless, he reiterated COCOBOD’s steadfast commitment to combating illegal mining, emphasising the imperative to protect farmers and their crucial cocoa farms.

COCOBOD officials are urgently appealing to Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the alleged involvement of police officers in illegal mining.

Despite COCOBOD’s initial projection to purchase 850,000 tonnes of cocoa last year, the actual figures fell short due to the impact of illegal mining and smuggling.

  • Ken defended me even when I didn’t have a personal relationship with Ken Agyapong – Kwesi Nyantatyi

Ken defended me even when I didn’t have a personal relationship with Ken Agyapong – Kwesi Nyantatyi

Ex-President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, expressed his newfound admiration for Kennedy Agyapong and Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, asserting that they defended him.

During an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, Mr. Nyantakyi clarified that he had no prior association with Kennedy Agyapong.

“I was disturbed by the negative publicity but I was unperturbed about the truth or otherwise of the matter. I was sure that one day people will get to know the truth.

“That is why I have developed a certain respect and love for people like the Honourable Ken Agyapong. He seemed to be the only person who stood up for me publicly and the Right Honourable Speaker. But you know the interesting thing: I had never met Kennedy Agyapong, neither had I spoken to him,” Mr. Nyantakyi narrated.

He continued: “Some people may have thought that I went to place a plea before him to come to my aid. Apart from seeing the honourable Kenned Agyapong on TV and then listening to him on the radio. I never had a personal encounter with him. Mr. Speaker, I knew him long ago as my senior but I hadn’t met him for more than two decades.

“But in the course of his work, he encountered FIFA officials and got to know certain insights into the matter. So he made some public statements.”

The former GFA President also expressed worry over how people take publication from the media without verifying.

“Some people are so gullible when they hear stories in the media that they don’t bother to investigate. They just accept it hook, line and sinker,” he added.

  • “To this day, I don’t know what I did” – Gary Lineker worry over Mourinho’s feud with him

“To this day, I don’t know what I did” – Gary Lineker worry over Mourinho’s feud with him

Gary Lineker disclosed an unusual conflict with Jose Mourinho, which originated when the former Manchester United manager reprimanded Ed Woodward for conversing with the television presenter.

The Match of the Day host shared that Mourinho declined to accept a GQ magazine award from him in 2015.

Despite having a generally positive relationship, as evidenced by Mourinho praising Lineker’s Match of the Day coverage through text messages, their estrangement intensified for reasons undisclosed to the former England international.

Speaking to The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker opened up: “I remember when he first came; he had this incredible personality, was really engaging and I thought he was witty and funny. I think the game has beaten him up a little over the years. I did a little documentary with him, he used to text me all the time, he used to text me after Match of the Day, saying, ‘you guys understand it, this is great.’ We had been going along like that for two years and then something changed.

“I was asked to present him with the Man of the Year award at the GQ Awards that they do every year. They asked me to present the trophy and I said, ‘yes, I’ll do that for Jose, of course.’ Then, about four days before the event, they got in touch and said, ‘Jose has got in touch and he doesn’t want you to present the trophy to him; he wants someone that’s not in football.’

“I thought, ‘hmmm, that’s a bit odd, but I thought I’ll go along to the event anyway and I went up to Jose and he kind of blanked me. I went, ‘Are we ok? Are we ok, Jose?’ ‘He went, “Yeah, yeah, yeah.’ But he wasn’t okay, and he’s never been OK since.”

Alan Shearer and Micah Richards were bemused to hear the incident and asked what led to the bitterness. Lineker then went on to narrate another awkward encounter at Old Trafford following a Champions League game during Mourinho’s tenure at Manchester United, involving former United chief Ed Woodward.

“I do not know to this day whether it was something I said on Match of the Day; I genuinely have no idea. I interviewed him subsequently and he was very cold,” he said.
“I remember doing a Champions League game, which they didn’t do very well in. I went up to the director’s box at Manchester United and I was having a drink with Ed Woodward; he’s a neighbour of mine so I know him really well.

“I’m standing there having a drink and Jose comes up but then he just wandered off. He sent a text to Ed Woodward, ‘why are you talking to him?’ To this day, I don’t know what I did! It is a long time ago that this happened but I don’t know what happened.”

Mourinho is recognised for his outspoken and maverick personality, unafraid to express himself openly. On some occasions, he tends to push the boundaries, and in a recent development, he faced expulsion from the stands twice within a week. These incidents occurred during Roma’s matches against Atalanta in Serie A and Lazio in the Coppa Italia.

Roma is currently experiencing a period of poor form, having won only one match in their last five outings, which places them in the eighth position in the top-flight standings. The challenges are set to continue as they face AC Milan in their upcoming fixture at San Siro on Sunday.

I met Shalimar Abbiusi through Ablakwa – Cheddar on how he met his spokesperson

Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar or Freedom Justice Caesar, the founder and leader of the emerging political force in the country, the New Force Movement, has shared details about how he encountered Shalimar Abbiusi, a repatriated Belgian national.

Formerly serving as the spokesperson for the New Force Movement, Shalimar Abbiusi played a significant role in presenting the activities of the political entity through various social media posts.

However, she faced legal troubles and was charged with acquiring a student residence permit using false declarations, a claim contested by her legal representatives.

Despite the Kaneshie District Court dropping charges against her, she was rearrested and repatriated shortly thereafter.

Addressing the criticism surrounding Shalimar’s involvement in Ghanaian politics and his absence during her legal issues, Nana Kwame Bediako, in an interview on TV3 NewDay, shed light on the circumstances leading to their collaboration.

He revealed that Shalimar became the spokesperson for the New Force Movement because no Ghanaian was willing to take on the role.

“In the beginning of the New Force with the mask and everything, we had been speaking to several people to take various roles. We tried so many people to be the spokespersons, but they were all scared. We were struggling,” explained Nana Kwame Bediako.

He further explained that Shalimar, having been in the country for more than three years and with a background as a presenter for GHOne and a model, was introduced to him by Okudzeto Ablakwa, the North Tongu MP.

The introduction took place at Mepe during a donation event, and their collaboration began after discussing the objectives of the New Force Movement.

“Shalimar was a girl that had been in the country for over three years. She had already worked as a presenter for GHOne and model before I met her. I only met her at Mepe when we went to do the donation there.

“I met her through Hon Ablakwa (North Tongu MP). We started talking after, so she asked what she can do after she heard about what we’re doing,” he said in the exclusive interview.

Video: Sadio Mane’s wife receives heroine’s welcome upon her arrival to school after marriage

Sadio Mane’s recent bride received a warm welcome upon her return to school after marrying the Al-Nassr football star.

Aisha Timba, who is 18 years old, tied the knot with Mane in a ceremony this month and resumed her studies the next day.

Tamba stood on the balcony of a block and waved at the students who gathered and chanted ‘Sadio amenda jabar – Aissaa amena jekeur’, to wit ‘Madame Sadio Mane’.

In a video shared by Senegalese outlet Senenews, Aisha was greeted with songs from her fellow students as she waved to them.

Mane made headlines following his marriage to Timba with allegations of child marriage due to Timba’s age. According to netizens, Sadio was dating a minor, which is an offence and a violation of human rights.

In response to these claims, Tamba’s father detailed that Mane set eyes on his daughter when she was 16 but had to wait until she turned 18 before marrying her.

‘My wife and Aisha visited their (Mane’s) family one day, and this is where he met her for the first time.

‘He probably saw something special in her and his parents appreciated her as well. They came to see me. We discussed as per tradition, agreed on everything, and waited for this day to happen.’

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0scWHpuw9o

He clarified that Sadio Mane did not date the young lady when she was a minor.

‘They were not dating because Aisha was still young.’

The ceremony, which was held at Keur Massar, Dakar, Senegal, had in attendance close relatives of Mane and his new wife.

According to reports, Aisha Tamba is originally from Casamança, and like her husband, she speaks Madingue.

Meanwhile, Mane is currently in Cote d’Ivoire, preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 31-year-old aims to contribute to Senegal’s quest for a second consecutive AFCON victory.

Senegal’s AFCON 2023 campaign kicks off against Gambia on January 15, and they share a group with Cameroon and Guinea.

Cheddar, John Dramani Mahama (National Democratic Congress), Mahamudu Bawumia (New Patriotic Party), and Alan Kyerematen (Movement for Change).

After the voting ended, EIB Network released the results as follows:

    Bawumia 12.99%

  • You are not getting any apology from me – Okudzeto Ablakwa to GRA

You are not getting any apology from me – Okudzeto Ablakwa to GRA

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa,
has responded to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) regarding his earlier claims about Commissioner-General, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Adu Owusu-Amoah.

The tax mobilisation agency had demanded an apology from Ablakwa for stating that the GRA boss had fled the country amidst an investigation into a significant corruption scandal involving the GRA.

A GRA statement refuted reports of Rev. Dr. Owusu-Amoah absconding, clarifying that he was on a scheduled six-day leave and would resume work on January 15, 2024.

The GRA characterised Ablakwa’s assertions as a “malicious, sensational, misleading, and deliberate attempt to damage the reputation” of the Commissioner-General and the GRA.

However, Ablakwa stood firm, expressing in a rejoinder, “Let me assure the GRA that I do not owe them an apology, and they surely are not going to get one.”

He insisted that the GRA’s response failed to discredit the findings of his parliamentary oversight and criticized the circumstances surrounding the Commissioner-General’s leave during the ongoing audit ordered by the president.

Pointing out the GRA’s statement that Rev. Dr. Owusu-Amoah left Ghana on January 3, 2024, and is set to resume work on January 15, 2024, Ablakwa questioned the legitimacy of describing it as a six-day leave, emphasising that it coincides with the entire promised two-week audit period in a Facebook post.

“The GRA release further states that Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah is on a 6-day leave and will resume work on January 15, 2024. This does not add up. The GRA Commissioner-General left Ghana on January 3, 2024 — a few hours after the January 2, 2024 presidential directive of a KPMG audit.

Leaving Ghana on the 3rd of January, 2024 and resuming work on the 15th of January, 2024 which instructively is the entire period of the promised 2-week audit, cannot be described as a 6-day leave,” he stated.

Ablakwa accused the government of opting for deception and a cover-up instead of an honest and transparent investigation into the alleged $100 million SML scandal.

He concluded by asserting his commitment to constitutional oversight and transparency, stating, “Nothing will stop us from pursuing our constitutional mandate of parliamentary oversight. Forward ever, backward never! For God and Country. Ghana First.”

    Read Ablakwa’s response below:

I have become aware of the GRA statement.

Let me assure the GRA that I do not owe them an apology, and they surely are not going to get one.

The GRA response abysmally fails to discredit the findings of my unimpeachable parliamentary oversight.

Consistent with the revelations I published, the GRA has only confirmed that Ghana is the only country in the world where the President orders a crucial audit into a ginormous scandal and the head of the organisation under audit is concurrently allowed to proceed on leave and assisted to travel out of the country during the said audit — absolutely incredulous!

Under another incorruptible President, this GRA boss would have been fired for daring to leave the jurisdiction during such a high profile national audit into the create, loot and share scheme he collaborated with Ken Ofori-Atta to perpetrate.

The GRA release further states that Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah is on a 6-day leave and will resume work on January 15, 2024. This does not add up. The GRA Commissioner-General left Ghana on January 3, 2024—a few hours after the January 2, 2024 presidential directive for a KPMG audit.

Leaving Ghana on the 3rd of January, 2024 and resuming work on the 15th of January, 2024 which instructively is the entire period of the promised 2-week audit, cannot be described as a 6-day leave.

These bizarre developments and blatant official untruths are bound to happen when a corrupt government opts for deception and a grand cover-up instead of an honest, transparent and credible investigation into the US$100 million SML scandal.

Nothing will stop us from pursuing our constitutional mandate of parliamentary oversight. Forward ever, backward never!

    For God and Country.

    Ghana First.

I have lost almost everything – Obinim cries foul over beef with Kennedy Agyapong

Founder and leader of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has revealed that his ongoing conflict with Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, has resulted in the decline of his church.

Bishop Obinim disclosed the intricacies of his church’s decline during a TikTok live session, underscoring the repercussions of getting involved in a verbal dispute with the outspoken politician.

“My brother Kennedy Agyapong orchestrated a fight with me, and that was how the story started. When I assessed my strength, I could have beaten Kennedy Agyapong and still have more energy in me, but not knowing my strength had to do with spiritual strength, he was fighting me in the physical realm where he was more fit than me,” Bishop Obinim said.

The religious leader stated that he dismissed divine warnings against the confrontation, perceiving it only as a spiritual battle.

Nevertheless, he later realised that the conflict extended beyond the spiritual realm and had adverse effects on his physical and legal standing.

“I had been invited and accused of money laundering and taking someone’s gold, which I had no idea about. By the time I realised it, it was already too late,” he added.

He continued: “I used to have more than 1000 congregants, but when I met in church, I didn’t even get 200 members. I wondered why I fought with him at all. That’s why I am advising you all: if someone wants to fight you, assess your strength and that of the person and never try to fight.

“I am not even done with the story of Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and my fight with him. The day I was taken to court, I took seven lawyers, and they told me to bring 2 billion old cedis before they went to face Kennedy Agyapong because he had money. The kind of things I went through, I realised I was down.”

Kennedy Agyapong launched a campaign against certain pastors in the nation, labelling them as fraudulent and manipulating others in the name of God.

He verbally sparred with several of them, including Bishop Obinim, making various accusations against the religious leader.

The MP’s allegations encompass claims of the religious figure being a fraud and engaging in extramarital affairs, as well as participating in money laundering and promoting false doctrines.

    Offinsohemaa dethroned by Otumfuo

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has put an end to Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko’s more than three-decade rule as the Queen Mother of the Offinso Traditional Area.

The dethronement announcement took place on Thursday, January 11, 2024, during the inaugural meeting of the Asanteman Council for the year.

This marks Otumfuo’s first dethronement in 2024. The newly installed chief of Offinso, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, appeared before the Asanteman Council, presided over by the Asantehene, to take the oath of allegiance.

The dethronement was based on accusations of significant insubordination, primarily arising from Offinsohemaa’s refusal to appear before Otumfuo following a summons and other reported offences.

Otumfuo, delivering the verdict, stated, “I deliver the town into your hands alone. You have no queen, mother. Find a new queen mother to help you undertake your mandate when you have settled down. We need a queen mother who will be present here when we need her.”
The controversy surrounding the Offinso stool emerged from allegations that certain individuals, spearheaded by the Queen Mother, were attempting to “sell” it to Dr. Desmond Kofi Koduah Sarpong, the former Board Chairman of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club.

Hemanhene Nana Wiafe Apau Sanwoansan, representing the Bekum Division, revealed at a press conference in December that members of the royal family had informed Otumfuo about the Queen Mother’s alleged actions to compromise tradition and transfer the stool to KK Sarpong.

Following Otumfuo’s investigations, it was uncovered that KK Sarpong, presented by the Queen Mother as the candidate for the stool, had no familial ties to the Ahyirem Royal Family, as he had asserted.

The woman from whom he purportedly hailed was found to have never borne a child, resulting in disqualification. This revelation heightened tensions between the Queen Mother and some of the youth of Offinso.

NDC cooked reports – Chairman Wontumi denies disrespect claims towards Otumfuo

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely recognised as Chairman Wontumi and serving as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has refuted claims that he contested the authority of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

He asserted that these allegations are unfounded, malicious, and deceptive. Chairman Wontumi accused certain individuals of trying to sow discord between him, the ruling party, and the Asantehene.

In a press statement dated January 11, 2024, he said that his office “has taken notice of a news report circulating on both the traditional and social media spaces, suggesting that I have acted in a manner that is disrespectful to His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“Specifically, the said news report was carried on Monday, January 10, 2024, in the Punch newspaper and also on AkomaFM and Onuaonline, both NDC-sponsored news outlets.

“First, I would like to place on record that this story is false, malicious, misleading and a calculated attempt by some elements to pitch the ruling party and my good self against the Asantehene, the occupant of the Golden Stool, for reasons best known to them,” part of the press statement said.

Wontumi asserted that he never made any statement to that effect during or after the said NPP vetting.

“I have never made any statement or gestures, before, during or after the vetting that should warrant such disgraceful and an unfounded reportage, and, I therefore, urge party faithfuls and the good people of Asanteman to respectfully, disregard this and treat it with the contempt it deserves.

“What was laughable is the fact that the writers and sponsors of this malicious venture, could not even provide any evidence to buttress their points as they hid behind “it is alleged”, “he is reported to have…”, but could not make a definite statement in their reportage, “he added.

Wontumi continued: “This clearly indicates that this was a calculated move targeted at my person by some NDC media outlets and their sponsors, just to tarnish my reputation.”

Earlier reports indicated that Chairman Wontumi was called to the Manhyia Palace to clarify allegations of him showing disrespect to Otumfuo. Allegedly, this incident occurred during a meeting of the NPP parliamentary primaries vetting committee.

The NPP National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, who presided over the vetting committee, has rejected the assertions of Wontumi disrespecting Otumfuo.

    Read the full statement below:

The office of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has taken notice of a news report circulating on both the traditional and social media spaces, suggesting that I have acted in a manner that is disrespectful to His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Specifically, the said news report was carried on Monday, January 10, 2024, in the Punch newspaper and also on AkomaFM and Onuaonline, both NDC-sponsored news outlets.

Captioned “Wontumi Disrespected Otumfuo at NPP Vetting” on the front page of the NDC’s Punch newspaper, the said story sought to suggest that I made those comments during a vetting process of NPP parliamentary aspirants last week.

First, I would like to place on record that this story is false, malicious, misleading and a calculated attempt by some elements to pitch the ruling party and my good self against the Asantehene, the occupant of the Golden Stool, for reasons best known to them.

I have never made any statement or gesture before, during or after the vetting that should warrant such disgraceful and unfounded reportage, and I therefore urge party faithfuls and the good people of Asanteman to respectfully disregard this and treat it with the contempt it deserves.

What was laughable is the fact that the writers and sponsors of this malicious venture, could not even provide any evidence to buttress their points as they hid behind “it is alleged”, “he is reported to have…”, but could not make a definite statement in their reportage.

This clearly indicates that this was a calculated move targeted at my person by some NDC media outlets and their sponsors, just to tarnish my reputation.

As nature would give it, I come from a home with strong understanding of traditions and customs, respect for traditional authorities, and graciously, I have the privilege to serve my party in a capacity as the regional Chairman in the Asante Kingdom.

With my years of service to the golden stool as the regional chairman, I have served with pride and in dignity to the Asantehene, and, there have never been any moment that my actions and inactions have suggested insubordination to the occupant of the golden stool because I serve the NPP and ultimately the Golden Stool.

I am by this medium giving the PUNCH newspaper, Broadcastergh.com and AkomaFM/Onuaonline, to retract and apologize within 24 hours to my person and Manhyia Palace, through the same medium, or I will initiate a legal action against them.

I am focused, well resolved and well placed to lead the party in the region to break the 8, and make Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the next President of the republic of Ghana, in 2025, therefore, such detractive elements cannot weigh me down.

    Thank You

    Signed
    Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi)

    (Regional Chairman, NPP-Ashanti)

  • Mourinho blames Roma’s loss in Lazio game on VAR

Jose Mourinho criticised VAR and what he described as a “penalty tailored to modern football” following Roma’s 1-0 loss to Lazio in a tense Coppa Italia quarterfinal on Wednesday.

The only goal of the game came in the 51st minute, when Mattia Zaccagni converted a penalty for Lazio. The decision was based on the foul adjudged to have been committed by Roma defender Dean Huijsen on Taty Castellanos.

“We lost to what I will call a penalty suited to modern football, one that the referee does not give when he is three metres away and VAR does,” Mourinho said afterward.

“This is how the referees are told to act—20–30 years ago, players would never go down the way they do here. A penalty ought to be seen as the maximum punishment. The referee was right there and decided not to give the penalty, but when there is someone in front of a screen that calls him for a minimal contact and the player puts on a show following that contact, there’s not much he can do.”

In a typically intense derby clash, the match concluded with three players receiving red cards in the closing minutes.

Lazio forward Pedro faced expulsion in the sixth minute of stoppage time, having received two yellow cards within a span of two minutes.

Roma forward Sardar Azmoun received a straight red card for essentially slapping Lazio midfielder Nicolo Rovella on the back of the head. Additionally, teammate Gianluca Mancini was sent off for dissent after the final whistle.

The heated atmosphere extended to the supporters, with Roma midfielder Edoardo Bove being struck by a glass bottle thrown from the crowd during his substitution in the second half.

Roma’s challenging day was compounded by key forward Paulo Dybala being forced off at halftime due to yet another muscular injury in his extensive list. The World Cup winner from Argentina is now a doubt for the upcoming Serie A match against AC Milan on Sunday. Adding to their woes, manager Mourinho will also be absent, serving a suspension after being sent off in the previous weekend’s match.

“He suffered the usual muscle injury,” Mourinho said. “He played a very physical match two days ago and was on the pitch for 80 minutes. This was a demanding game and he wanted to play.

“When Paulo goes down, everything becomes more difficult”

Lazio will face either Juventus or Frosinone in the two-legged semifinals in April.

Arsenal join race for Real Sociedad’s Zubimendi

Arsenal, along with several other European teams, express a strong interest in securing the services of Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

Although Real Sociedad anticipated a quiet winter transfer window, interest in the Spanish international has intensified, particularly due to the 24-year-old’s €60 million release clause.

The Gunners, previously linked to Zubimendi during the summer, are reportedly among the top Premier League sides eyeing the midfielder. Manager Mikel Arteta sees Zubimendi as an ideal addition to the midfield.

However, despite the growing interest, Zubimendi faces a potential dilemma as he is set to participate in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages with Real Sociedad against Paris Saint-Germain next month.

This raises the possibility of a challenging decision should his release clause be activated.

Zubimendi showcased his scoring prowess in the recent 1-1 LaLiga draw with Alavés, marking his 19th league appearance of the season. Additionally, he played a key role in Spain’s recent European Championship qualifying matches in November.

Akufo-Addo welcomes Harvard Business School to Jubilee House

On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, President Nana Akufo-Addo warmly welcomed a group of students from Harvard Business School to the Jubilee House as part of their study tour.

This marks the second consecutive year that a new cohort of students has chosen Ghana for a meaningful two-week internship program, engaging with selected companies across the country.

During their visit, President Akufo-Addo engaged in an insightful dialogue with the students, exploring various facets of Ghana’s democratic journey, the nation’s evolving identity, its crucial role in the Pan-African movement, and its steadfast advocacy for reforms within both the United Nations and the Bretton Woods Institutions.

The president shared his perspectives on Ghana’s unwavering commitment to democratic principles and ongoing efforts to strengthen its national identity.

He underscored the country’s significant role in Pan-African evolution and the shared responsibility of nations in contributing to the progress and unity of the continent.

Zambia cholera: Move to villages – President Hakainde Hichilema tells citizens

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has called on people to consider relocating from urban areas to villages in the aftermath of a cholera outbreak that has claimed the lives of approximately 300 individuals.

President Hichilema highlighted poor sanitation in densely populated urban zones as conducive to cholera outbreaks. To alleviate congestion in major towns, he urged residents to consider moving to rural areas where there is ample space and “perfect sanitation.”

The cholera outbreak, with over 7,500 reported cases since last October, remains a pressing concern. In the last 24 hours alone, there have been more than 500 new cases and 17 deaths, prompting the health ministry to postpone the reopening of schools as part of preventive measures.

Eight out of Zambia’s ten provinces have now been impacted by the cholera outbreak.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) is preparing to dispatch approximately one million doses of the cholera vaccine in the coming days to aid in controlling the disease’s spread.

In response to the crisis, President Hichilema visited the Heroes Stadium Cholera Treatment Centre in the capital, Lusaka, on Wednesday, where over 1,000 patients are currently undergoing treatment.

He said the government would take some “hard to swallow” measures in an effort to eradicate the waterborne disease.

He appeared to blame some Zambians who moved to towns “without a clear objective” for the mushrooming of poorly planned informal settlements.

Some young people were “hanging around and doing nothing” in towns instead of moving to rural areas to farm, the president said.

“There is so much land in the villages; there is clean water. We can build nice homes in the villages, which are not polluted,” Mr Hichilema said.

President Hakainde Hichilema has announced plans to improve existing slums in towns and prevent the formation of new ones as part of efforts to address the cholera outbreak in Zambia.

In neighboring Mozambique and Zimbabwe, heightened surveillance is in place to prevent cross-border transmission of the disease. Zimbabwe has been grappling with its own battle against cholera for months, primarily due to a lack of access to clean water.

Cholera, a bacterial disease transmitted through contaminated water or food, leads to severe dehydration from vomiting and diarrhea. If left untreated, it can result in death within hours. The Zambian authorities are taking measures to curb the spread of the disease and enhance living conditions in urban areas.

All the people we contacted to be spokesperson were sacred – Cheddar explain why he settled on a Belgian

Nana Kwame Bediako, the leader of The New Force, has disclosed the rationale behind selecting Belgian national Shalimar Abbiusi as the spokesperson for his political movement.

Approximately three months ago, Shalimar publicly revealed her association with The New Force, attracting significant attention primarily due to the mystery surrounding the movement’s founders.

Following this announcement, there arose a sense of curiosity among many, questioning the decision to have a Belgian individual as the spokesperson for a movement aspiring to become the third political force in the country and provide hope to its citizens.

    Shalimar Abbiusi

Amidst dissatisfaction and queries, Nana Kwame Bediako, widely known as Cheddar and the leader of The New Force, addressed the concerns during an interview on TV3’s New Day Show on Thursday. He revealed that the choice of Shalimar Abbiusi as the spokesperson came after several unsuccessful attempts to secure a Ghanaian representative.

According to Cheddar, numerous potential Ghanaian candidates declined the role out of fear of potential victimisation by those in power, a factor that led to the selection of Shalimar Abbiusi.

“We tried so many people to be the spokesperson but they were all scared. They didn’t want to use their faces. Many Ghanaians. We were struggling, Alfred.

“Shalimar was a girl who had been in this country for three years. She already worked for GHOne. I only met her at Mepe when we went to do the donation. I met her through Honourable Ablakwa and she asked what she could do when she found out about the movement. Then I said maybe you could speak for us because we are not getting anyone to do it at this point,” he said.

Tragically, Shalimar Abbiusi faced adversity after disclosing her role as the spokesperson for The New Force.

On Monday, December 4, 2023, Ms. Abbiusi was apprehended by officers from the National Investigations Bureau (NIB). The arrest was reportedly based on a lack of evidence to substantiate her work permit, immigration documents, and her association with The New Force.

While initially released, she was later rearrested and marked for repatriation by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

Shalimar’s repatriation took place on December 19, 2023, aboard Air Brussels Flt. No. SN 319, returning her to her home country. In the wake of these events, she has hinted at revealing the circumstances surrounding her arrest and deportation from Ghana in the near future.

Expressing her sentiments in a Christmas message shared on her social media accounts, Miss Abbiusi expressed gratitude to her supporters while accusing Ghanaian authorities of treating her unjustly.

  • Dier set to complete his move to Bayern, according to sources

Dier set to complete his move to Bayern, according to sources

Bayern Munich is reportedly on the verge of securing the services of Tottenham defender Eric Dier in a deal valued at approximately €4 million, according to sources cited by ESPN’s James Olley.

The 29-year-old, having agreed to personal terms, arrived in Germany on Thursday morning in anticipation of a medical examination.

Initially, Bayern had shown interest in signing Radu Drăgusin and presented an offer rivalling Spurs’ bid, totaling around €30 million. However, the Genoa defender ultimately chose to join Tottenham, prompting the Bundesliga club to explore alternative options.

Eric Dier is approaching the end of his contract at Tottenham, set to expire this summer, and has been considered surplus to requirements by head coach Ange Postecoglou.

Despite the enduring absences of key center-backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero throughout the season, Postecoglou opted for full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal in central defence.

Consequently, Dier has featured in just one match this season, the 2-1 defeat to Wolves in November, making only four appearances across all competitions.

Davies suffered an injury in Spurs’ 1-0 FA Cup third-round win over Burnley last Friday and when asked whether the club could still afford to lose Dier this month, Postecoglu replied: “Yes.”

West Ham, along with several other clubs, had been keeping tabs on Eric Dier. However, once Bayern formalised their interest, terms were quickly agreed upon between Dier and the German club.

Having originally joined Spurs from Sporting CP in August 2014 for a fee of £4 million, Dier has amassed a total of 365 appearances for the London club. He has also earned 49 caps while representing England.

Dier is set to reunite with former Spurs teammate Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena, as Kane made a similar move to Munich last summer.
