Pray for me – Yaw Tog after fan questioned delay in release of his album

On Wednesday, January 10, Ghanaian rapper Yaw Tog shared a concerning message about his mental health on X, formerly known as Twitter. The cryptic post was a response to a fan’s inquiry about the delayed release of his album, ‘Young and Mature’.

Despite the rapper’s previous announcement of the album’s release last year, he has left fans in suspense, prompting concerns and queries from followers about the exact release date. The fan, in particular, reminded Yaw Tog of his promise from the previous year.

“Yes, we eat frogs”— Fmr. MP reacts after social media buzz over frog it to Faila

While not all frog species are edible, many are, and the people of Kumbungu have been consuming frogs for a long time even though they have not highlighted it enough, according to Ras Mubarak, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kumbungu Constituency in the Northern Region.

Ras Mubarak also explained that the people of Kumbungu have been eating delicious and nutritious meat for centuries.

He noted that many other people in the world consume frogs, just like the people in his constituency.

His remarks follow a recent controversy involving the King of Kumbungu, who gifted frog meat to Chef Faila (Failatu Abdul Razak) during her endeavour to break the world record for the longest cooking marathon in Tamale. The marathon concluded today.

“Yes we eat frogs in Kumbungu. And we are not alone in the world. The French, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Koreans, Italians, Thai, Greeks, South Africans, some Americans in the South, Cambodians, Indonesians and a host of others in Asia and Europe.

“While other countries even export it, those of us from Kumbungu have rather been coy about our love for frog meat.

“They are proven to be rich in minerals like protein, vitamin A, and Potassium. There are about 7,500 species of frogs. Before you start catching frogs in your backyard for the pot, I must caution you and make the point forcefully. not every frog is edible; some frogs are poisonous,” Ras Mubarak explained on social media.

He then urged the people of Kumbungu to take advantage of the publicity brought to them through the cookathon controversy to market their edible frogs, get non-natives to consume it and attract tourists to the area through frog meat exhibitions.

“Thanks to the kind donation of cash amount, food items and a bucket of frogs by HRM, the King of Kumbungu, towards Faila’s cook-a-thon, the local media is beginning to show interest in a local delicacy that’s been eaten by the people of Kumbungu for hundreds of years.

“For those of us from Kumbungu, the time has come for us to begin to sell the idea that our frogs are not only delicious but can be eaten by non-natives of Kumbungu.

“We should go a step further, as part of plans to attract local and foreign tourists to Kumbungu, to do an exhibition on frogs,” he added.

The presentation of frogs to the Chef sparked curiosity about their edibility. However, it was revealed that frogs are indeed edible and are consumed by various ethnic groups across the country.

I have my own kingdom – Wontumi disrespects Otumfuo, Ashanti Kingdom

Manhyia Palace has reportedly summoned Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This summons follows allegations that Wontumi challenged the authority of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

According to a report from Onuaonline.com, Wontumi openly questioned the Asantehene’s authority during a session of the NPP parliamentary primaries vetting committee last week.

The report states that, without provocation, the party chairman asserted that he had established his own kingdom and would not hesitate to challenge Otumfuo if they disagreed on an issue.

“I have built my own kingdom, I have my own police and military, and I will speak my mind to Otumfuo if I disagree on an issue with him (Otumfuo)” the report quoted Wontumi as stating.

The report highlighted that Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP National Organiser, served as the chairman of the vetting committee during the incident.

Additionally, Kokosohene Nana Kwaku Duah, who was present at the time, is reported to have expressed a strong objection to Wontumi’s statement.

“For you to even say those words in my presence is unacceptable, and I’m not happy about your weird and disrespectful behaviour,” Kokosohene reportedly fumed at Wontumi.

Subsequent to the incident, reports suggest that the Asanteman Traditional Council has penned a letter to Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the NPP.

The purpose of this communication is to request facilitation for Chairman Wontumi’s appearance at the Manhyia Palace. The aim is for Wontumi to provide an explanation regarding the alleged disrespect shown towards Otumfuo.

I went ‘numb’ the night before my cook-a-thon – Chef Faila speaks on attack

Ghanaian aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, Chef Failatu Abdul Razak, has shared details about a challenging experience she faced the night before undertaking the record-breaking attempt.

In her account, she revealed that she fell seriously ill upon reaching the Modern City Hotel, where she was set to prepare for the highly anticipated event.

Unable to speak, walk, or even move her body on the bed, she found herself in a state of frustration and trauma, considering she was scheduled to commence the cook-a-thon the following day.

In a post-event media briefing, Chef Failatu recounted the intense ailment she grappled with the night before her ambitious attempt.

She emphasised that divine intervention played a crucial role in her recovery, allowing her to proceed with the cook-a-thon the next day.

“The very night I came here to embark on this project, it was terrible. I laid on my bed in one of the rooms in this very hotel [Modern City] and it took grace to wake me up because I couldn’t get up. I couldn’t open my eyes, I couldn’t lift my hand, and I couldn’t lift my leg. I wasn’t sick before getting into this premises.

But it happened out of the blue. It was tough; they got confused. What are we telling the public? What are we telling the media? What are we even telling the government who is interested in this?”

“It took the grace of God and the medical team going up and down to wake me up with their profession and whatever. And when I woke up, I still couldn’t walk. I looked at my team and my management. I looked into the faces of everyone in that room and I cried. I cried because I didn’t owe anyone as much as I owed them for all their efforts and support,” she recounted at a press conference after ending her attempt.

Chef Failatu successfully concluded her cook-a-thon on January 10, 2023, having devoted approximately nine days and 11 hours, totaling an impressive 227 hours. While her achievement is noteworthy, she is still in the process of submitting evidence of her attempt to the Guinness World Records.

This submission will undergo scrutiny to ascertain whether she has indeed surpassed the current record held by Alan Fisher of Ireland, who accomplished a time of 119 hours and 57 minutes.

  • Dumsor is back! NDC MP details recent rolling blackouts in Ghana

Dumsor is back! NDC MP details recent rolling blackouts in Ghana

Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Ellembele, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has declared that Ghana is currently facing challenges with load shedding.

As a former Minister of Energy and Petroleum, he pointed to recent instances of power outages as clear indications that the era of rolling blackouts, commonly referred to as dumsor, has made a return.

Additionally, he highlighted reports detailing the growing financial strain on state entities within the power production and transmission system, further exacerbating the situation.

“Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is currently unable to fulfil its payment obligations to the West African Gas Pipeline, which is responsible for transporting gas from Takoradi to Tema for power generation.

“You can also track the ultimate problem to the weakest link in the value chain—ECG’s inability to pay off-takers,” he added.

He urged the government to be transparent about the situation, calling on the Ghana Grid Company to establish a timetable for the current dumsor and provide businesses and households with the means to plan more effectively.

The hashtag #DumsorIsBack has gained traction on Ghana’s social media platforms, with both the president and vice president facing harsh criticism for the prevailing circumstances.

Surprisingly, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), responsible for power distribution, has yet to address the allegations regarding the return of dumsor.

Read the MP’s full post on the return of dumsor:

Ghana is currently grappling with a severe case of Load Shedding, commonly known as Dumsor.

The situation is evidently clear, with 500 MW of load being shed as of tonight, January 9th, 2024.

Numerous areas have been plunged into darkness due to the unavailability of gas to fuel thermal plants within the Tema enclave, which can be attributed to financial constraints.

Specifically, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is currently unable to fulfil its payment obligations to the West African Gas Pipeline, which is responsible for transporting gas from Takoradi to Tema for power generation. You can also track the ultimate problem to the weakest link in the value chain: -ECG’s inability to pay off-takers.

Compounding the situation is the absence of a load-shedding timetable, which hampers households and businesses from planning accordingly.

The lack of transparency and communication regarding the power outage schedule only adds to the frustration and inconvenience experienced by the affected population.

It is worth highlighting that even during the worst periods of Dumsor in the past, the power outage never reached the 500 megawatts threshold currently being shed yet the media associated with the NPP interestingly see this as no “Dumsor.”

Their loud silence on the current situation is deafening.

The Ghana Grid Company must, as a matter of urgency, come out with a load-shedding timetable to allow households and businesses to plan better.

Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has highlighted the formidable nature of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing it as an even more demanding competition than the World Cup.

Speaking at the event, the Le Havre player emphasised the intensity of the AFCON tournament, stating, “This tournament is even harder than the World Cup.”

He underlined the significance of unity within the team, assuring that the players would remain cohesive and competitive throughout the tournament.

“We know that it is the hardest tournament, for me, in the World Cup when it comes to fighting, determination, and energy, so the only way we can do this is by being together and being united, and for that, Your Excellency, I can assure you that we are united and we want to do it,” he added.

Meaningless and a waste of time – Museveni responds to Uganda’s ousting from US trade pact

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has declared that external efforts to exert pressure on his country are ineffective, responding more than a week after Uganda was ousted from a significant US-Africa trade initiative.

The United States initially issued a threat to impose sanctions on Uganda and remove it from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) trade agreement in May, following the passage of a contentious anti-homosexuality law in the East African nation.

The law imposes the death penalty for certain same-sex acts.

“For now, those who put pressure on us, they’re wasting their time. And we don’t have to worry ourselves about that,” President Museveni said in a national address on Tuesday, speaking out for the first time since the expulsion took effect.

“What we should concentrate on is to fight corruption among ourselves. These are the real problems. Not foreign pressure, because that one has no meaning,” he added.

Mr. Museveni emphasised Uganda’s commitment to engaging in trade with international partners who “respect” the country. This statement comes against the backdrop of Uganda reinforcing its stringent anti-homosexuality law in August of last year, a move that led to the World Bank suspending funding to the nation.

The bank justified its decision by stating that the law directly “contradicts” the values upheld by the organisation.

Zambia set to receive cholera vaccines as it faces a deadly outbreak

Zambia anticipates the delivery of one million cholera vaccine doses from the World Health Organisation to combat an outbreak that has claimed 249 lives since October.

Roma Chilengi, the health adviser to President Hakainde Hichilema, stated that the doses would be allocated to the most vulnerable areas and are expected to arrive by Saturday.

“But we will try and prioritise places where the [cholera] problem is highest,” Mr Chilengi told the state-run Daily Mail newspaper.

President Hichilema is scheduled to visit the main treatment center at National Heroes Stadium on Wednesday to assess the response measures.

The government has postponed the reopening of schools and implemented additional preventive measures in an effort to contain the outbreak.

Bayern Munich makes bid for Ghanaian prospect Jonah Kusi-Asare

Swedish football club AIK Solna has turned down an offer from German football giants Bayern Munich for their emerging talent, Jonah Kusi-Asare, of Ghanaian descent.

Bayern Munich was actively pursuing negotiations to secure the services of the 16-year-old striker, whose standout performances for AIK Solna had garnered attention.

However, the initial setback occurred when AIK Solna rejected Bayern Munich’s €4 million bid.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, AIK Solna is holding out for a €6 million fee to finalise the deal.

Despite the considerable bid from Bayern Munich, AIK Solna remains steadfast in their valuation of the promising striker.

Fußball.news reported that Bayern Munich not only expressed interest but also took substantial steps to bring Kusi-Asare into their ranks.

Nevertheless, the proposed fee has fallen short of AIK Solna’s expectations, resulting in a current impasse in the negotiations.

Latest statistics show Ghana will do well in AFCON 2023,

In a recent straw poll conducted by football writer and analyst Joel Bortey, 60 Ghanaian sports journalists participated, expressing their opinions and predictions for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, set to kick off in Ivory Coast in just three days.

Following the announcement of the 27-man squad on January 1, 2024, Chris Hughton’s team has been in a training camp in Kumasi, gearing up for their departure to Ivory Coast on January 10.

There has been significant speculation and discussion among football enthusiasts regarding the Black Stars’ prospects, particularly in light of their disappointing performance in the previous edition, where they exited the tournament without securing a victory for the first time in history.

As part of the ongoing evaluation to gauge improvements in the current squad in comparison to the previous edition, a decisive 88.3 percent of sports journalists have conveyed their optimism.

They cast their votes in favour of the Black Stars advancing beyond the group stage in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Notably, the group consists of formidable opponents such as Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique. This resounding endorsement reflects a prevailing confidence among sports journalists in the team’s enhanced capabilities, signalling an expectation for a superior performance in the upcoming tournament.

“The new structure of the AFCON makes it really difficult to be eliminated from the group stages. Ghana’s squad has more quality this time and worst-case scenario, they should make it one of the best third-placed teams,” a sports journalist said anonymously.

In the 2023 football calendar, the Black Stars won only four out of nine games, with a 3-1 victory over Liberia being their biggest and their worst loss being a devastating 4-0 scoreline in favour of the USA.

Many supporters of the Black Stars were furious when the senior national team lost 1-0 to the Comoros, who are ranked 119th in the FIFA rankings. Despite it being a one-goal loss, it is seen as humiliating for a nation like Ghana.

Contrary to the earlier opinion, seven out of the sixty sports journalists voted for the national team to exit the competition after their final group game.

“I only see the Black Stars winning one game out of the group they find themselves in. The current squad is 80% similar to the squad that faced Comoros on November 21, 2023. If they lost 1-0, I don’t see how they win against Cape Verde in their group opener and Egypt in the second fixture.” Another sports journalist said anonymously.

Considering the outcome of 2023, it came as a big surprise as 40% of sports journalists voted for Ghana to exit the Africa Cup of Nations at the quarter-final stage.

“Despite the absence of Thomas Partey, Ghana has enough quality to make a good one in the competition. There is only a handful of teams better than the Black Stars in terms of individual players. With Mohammed Kudus and Inaki Williams in the side, there is a lot of hope.”

History seems to be on the side of the four-time champions. Since making its debut in the competition in 1963, Ghana has been to the Quarter-final stage at least 17 times in 23 appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations.

  • “Piece of filth and a disgrace” – ‘Pained’ Osimhen blasts teammate’s agent Mamuka Jugeli

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has strongly criticised Mamuka Jugeli, the agent of his teammate Kvaratskhelia, for suggesting that Osimhen might move to Saudi Arabia for financial reasons.

Osimhen, expressing his disdain, referred to Jugeli as a ‘piece of filth and a disgrace’ and issued a stern warning, insisting that his name should not be mentioned in any conversation involving Jugeli.

“Dear Mamuka Jugeli, you are a piece of filth and a disgrace. I’m embarrassed by your sense of reasoning. Dumb f*ck! KEEP MY NAME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH!” Osimhen stated on his Instagram story.

In a recent interview with Sport1 Georgia, Mamuka Jugeli asserted that unlike his teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who harbours ambitions of playing for prominent European clubs, Victor Osimhen is set to make a move to Saudi Arabia in the upcoming summer primarily for financial reasons.

“Osimhen? He has signed a new contract, but do you really think he will play for Napoli throughout his career? I’m saying it now: he will go to play in Saudi Arabia in the summer. Napoli increased Osimhen’s contract, but Khvicha wouldn’t accept a move to Arabia, even if they offered him a billion euros.

“He would probably agree to play for Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, or Manchester City. Khvicha has different aspirations and goals; he wants to succeed, and he’s already achieving that.”

Despite winning the 2023 CAF Player of the Year and securing the 8th position in the Ballon d’Or rankings, Victor Osimhen has attracted interest from various top European clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Real Madrid.

In December 2023, he opted to extend his contract with Napoli, committing to a two-year deal that includes a release clause exceeding £100 million.

Make Shatta, Stonebwoy, and Sarkodie ent. ministers—Sonnie Badu on Cheddar’s presidential bid

Renowned Ghanaian musician Sonnie Badu shared an intriguing comment after Nana Kwame Bediako revealed his involvement with The New Force political movement.

Badu congratulated Cheddar for his bold move in addressing the challenges faced by Ghanaians through this political agenda.

In a seemingly playful manner, he humorously expressed his desire to be appointed as the Minister for Youth and Sports if he were to run for the presidency in the future.

Sonnie Badu also lightheartedly suggested roles for other artists like Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Kwaw Kesse in his hypothetical government, emphasising that it was all in good fun.

“Cedar, Asem ben nie? BEDIAKO, you are literally living your name… Well, I want ministers of youth and sports so I can travel with the Black Stars, and please give ministers of entertainment to… Nii Amah, Livingston and Obidi… Then give Agriculture to Kwaw Kese, I will help him find all fertile grounds to plant intampi… Just kidding… But on a serious note, Congratulations my brother; it’s a bold step,” he wrote on his Instagram page.

Cheddar officially revealed himself as the driving force behind The New Force political movement after the last-minute cancellation of the convention programme at Independence Square due to unforeseen circumstances.

The announcement sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some expressing doubts about his chances of leading the country.

  • I will die of hunger rather than write about my relationship with McBrown in a book – Okyeame Kwame

I will die of hunger rather than write about my relationship with McBrown in a book – Okyeame Kwame

Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame has firmly stated that he will never include details about his past relationship with actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown in a book, regardless of the circumstances.

Okyeame Kwame emphasised his aversion to generating controversies about people he is associated with, even if it means facing financial repercussions.

He expressed his commitment to avoiding writing about his previous relationship with McBrown, asserting that he would prefer to face financial challenges than contribute to controversies.

This response from Okyeame Kwame comes in the context of discussions about whether his book would gain more attention and hype by including controversial issues, similar to Yvonne Nelson’s book “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,” which delved into her past relationship with Sarkodie.

In a video sighted on social media, Okyeame Kwame conveyed his principled stance during a conversation with an unidentified show host.

Host: One topic that brought up the issues in your book recently was when one of the best-selling books now thus Yvonne Nelson’s book (I Am Not Yvonne Nelson).

People are saying the book sold out because of the brutal honesty with revelations which some think she shouldn’t have talked about, especially the controversy.

People said that maybe if your book contained issues about your relationship with McBrown in the past the book would have sold higher than this. If you were writing a memo, would you have included your time with McBrown in there?

Okyeame Kwame: The most important thing to me in this world is peace. So anything that does not bring peace, I am not interested in.

If I am writing a book and I have to include issues with McBrown—in this case, the negative ones—for the book to sell out, then hunger should kill me. I am not interested because it won’t bring peace between myself and McBrown.

Nearing the end of the cook-a-thon, members of the army and the general public were present to see her to the end of the journey.

In a poignant atmosphere, the military played the national anthem.

Chef Faila gave a salute and broke down in tears as her husband, colleague and helper in her journey, Chef Malik, walked with her out of the kitchen as she kneeled and thanked the army officers present.

Faila announced her intention to officially attempt the cooking marathon and started her cook-a-thon on January 1, 2024, at midnight at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale, Ghana.

Her aim was to set a record that would be difficult for the next attempt to break. She initially announced plans to cook for more than 120 hours, surpassing the current record of 119 hours and 57 minutes set by Alan Fisher in Japan in October 2023.

However, as the days went by, she continued for 200 hours and more. Today, January 10th, 2024, marks exactly 10 days since she began the marathon.

And according to reports, the energetic Chef planned to continue but left for the intervention of her husband and medical team, who advised her against adding more hours.

She won the admiration of many after pictures of her meals surfaced online, with many comparing her to previous Nigerian record holder Hilda Baci for her beautiful serving and garnishing skills.

Chef Faila prepared various local and continental dishes, such a waakye, jollof, pancakes, banku, and fufu, including some frog and snake meals using mostly organic and fresh ingredients.

Why Tiwa Savage dragged Davido to Nigerian police

Nigerian singer and songwriter Tiwatope Omolara Savage, professionally known as Tiwa Savage, has lodged a complaint with the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State against her colleague David Adeleke, known as Davido.

The petition alleges a threat to her life and actions that purportedly violated her fundamental human rights. The document, submitted to the office of the Commissioner of Police in Lagos on January 9, 2024, details Tiwa Savage’s accusations, citing threats from Davido since she posted a picture of one of his ‘baby mamas,’ Sophia Momodu, on her Instagram status.

Tiwa Savage wrote: “I am writing to bring to your attention a distressing situation involving myself, Tiwatope Omolara Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage and MR. DAVID ADELEKE popularly known as Davido.

“On the 23rd of December, I made a post which included myself and Sophia Momodu on my Instagram Story- a feature on Instagram which allows you to put up a post for twenty-four hours, and MR. DAVID ADELEKE sent messages to my manager who’s also part of his management team that I shouldn’t worry and should never say a word to him and that I was taunting him, uttering very disrespectful, malicious and derogatory words to my person.

“I responded to MR. DAVID ADELEKE’s message and told him not to reach out to me especially as I feel like I have been there for him and his daughter, Imade and more importantly when he lost his son.

“The events of that day have also led to a barrage of calls and messages from our mutual connections, asking me what I did to MR. DAVID ADELEKE that he’s upset that I choose to maintain a relationship with Imade’s mother, Sophia Momodu, who he’s having issues with and also painting the exchange to look like I was the aggressor.

“He has also told our mutual connections to warn me to “becareful in Lagos because he was going to f**k me up”.

“This is beginning to feel like some form of online and offline harassment, not just to me but also to members of my team,” she added.

She continued: “The actions of MR. DAVID ADELEKE are unethical and can be viewed as a direct threat to my rights to life, privacy and dignity of my person as guaranteed in Chapter 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), and are also in contravention of Section 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.

“I therefore would like to make this complaint and state that in the event that anything untoward or harmful were to happen to me or any member of my family, I will like the members of the Nigerian Police Force to hold MR. DAVID ADELEKE responsible.”

Social media was abuzz on Saturday, January 6, 2024, following the Instagram unfollowing of both singers, Tiwa Savage and Davido. Speculations arose that this move might be linked to the growing friendship between Savage and Sophia Momodu, the mother of Davido’s first child, Imade.

The singers had a previously amicable relationship, and their children, Imade Adeleke and Jamil Balogun, shared a school and were frequently seen enjoying each other’s company.

Teebillz, Tiwa Savage’s former husband and talent manager, issued a warning to Davido against disrespecting his family due to the ongoing issue between the musician and his ex-wife.

“These injuries would come at hard times for me, times when I was having a breakthrough or times when I had to go to a tournament or play in games.”

“I also represent England National Team Under-17 level as captain. I have known about the SCOAN for a long time as my family follows T.B Joshua the Prophet. My family are big fans and we thought it would be a good time and chance for me to come and be touched by the prophet.

Anas endorses BBC exposé on TB Joshua: “What he did is an abuse of human rights”

Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas is urging the public to approach the controversies surrounding the late T.B. Joshua from a human rights perspective rather than solely as a religious matter.

His comments follow the release of a BBC documentary revealing alleged abuses within the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), led by the late Prophet TB Joshua.

The documentary brings to light instances of sexual abuse, rape allegations, and manipulations of miracles within the SCOAN. Anas emphasized in an interview with Arise News that the primary focus should be on the documented cases of abuse rather than religion.

“I think that the major takeaway from this documentary is the level of abuse we’ve all seen in the film. And I don’t want us to look at this with the lenses of religion.

It is a pure human rights abuse story that all of us as journalists have been doing and what you have is the situation where girls have been raped, sexually abused and manipulations of miracles and others. its about time we say no to these things, we stand firm and say it as it is to let people know what the real story is,” he said.

“I don’t think this is an attack on the church; I have emphasised that we are not here to talk about religion; we are here to talk about human rights abuses. We have done stories on human rights abuses, and this is not any different from the stories we do. I think that if there is something wrong, we should have the courage as journalists to be able to tell it as it is.

“The death of a person does not mean that the issue is dead. There are equally important and many poor people who have suffered as a result of these atrocities.

‘Rare’ break was ‘good’ for both the team and myself – City’s De Bruyne

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne believes that his five-month break from football due to injury may ultimately be a blessing in disguise for both himself and the club.

De Bruyne returned from hamstring surgery in the 5-0 victory over Huddersfield Town on Sunday, marking his first appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side since August.

The 32-year-old, who provided an assist for Jérémy Doku just 17 minutes after coming on, expressed feeling refreshed after his time on the sidelines and is eager to contribute to City’s pursuit of trophies in the second half of the season.

“It’s not like I needed a break but I took it to turn a disadvantage into an advantage,” De Bruyne said. “When I reflect on my career, playing the last 10 years non-stop with a short break, maybe it was good for me to reset a little bit in a way and take care of myself when it is not really possible during the year.

“I hoped I could work hard and come back in a good way and I feel that I’m doing that but obviously I need to progress.” De Bruyne missed 27 games before returning to the squad for the 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Dec. 30.

He got his first minutes against Huddersfield and afterwards admitted it was good to be back, if only because he’s not a fan of watching games on TV. “I can watch whatever football and I watched every game but I don’t like it,” he said. “They’ve obviously been alright.

After the year we had last year, there will be ups and downs but in most of the games except for Aston Villa and maybe Wolves, we did fairly well. We are there with the other teams. “If you’re here with all the teams around, you’re not going to be far away. We are where we need to be, but we need to try and continue that.”

“Anorexic” and powerless institution —Afari-Gyan on Council of State

Former Electoral Commission (EC) Chairman, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, has expressed concerns over what he perceives as the ineffectiveness of the Council of State.

He likened the current state of the Council to an “anorexic institution without power” and stressed that, despite its authority to advise all public institutions in Ghana, its current operations give the impression of powerlessness.

Drawing from his experience at the EC, Dr. Afari-Gyan emphasised the importance of the Council adopting a more transparent approach to demonstrate its impact.

“We will all agree that the Council of State has an imposing name, but the way it has so far gone about its work has made it look like an anorexic institution without power, yet apart from the president, the Council has power to advise every public institution in Ghana,” Dr. Afari-Gyan stated.

He recommended that the Council should regularly publish reports outlining the advice it has provided to different institutions, enabling the public to evaluate its effectiveness.

Dr. Afari-Gyan also underscored the significance of clarifying the distinction between the president’s appointments made in consultation with the Council and those made based on the Council’s advice.

“In the Council’s relationship with the president, there is one thing in particular that requires clarification. The president appoints some people in consultation with the Council and some on the advice of the Council. What is the difference?

“Some lawyers say there is no difference at all and that the president can do as he pleases in both instances. But others say that unlike consultation and the case of advice, the president cannot appoint unless he is so advised,” Dr. Afari-Gyan explained.

AFCON: Nigeria’s Super Eagles star Boniface reported to miss some matches after groin injury

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface indicated on Monday that he is likely to miss this month’s Africa Cup of Nations due to a groin injury sustained during training.

The 23-year-old Bayer Leverkusen player was absent from his country’s final warm-up friendly against Guinea on Monday, and local reports suggest he could be sidelined for up to six weeks.

“Good luck, guys. Wish you guys all the best at Afcon @ng_supereagles,” Boniface wrote on his Instagram account.

Bundesliga leader Bayer Leverkusen’s top scorer, Boniface, with 10 goals in 16 league games this season, has sustained an injury.

The striker, who made his international debut in October, earned four more caps.

His injury compounds Nigeria’s concerns following the recent withdrawal of midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, injured during Leicester City’s win on December 29.

Striker Kelechi Iheanacho, also dealing with an injury, is being evaluated at Nigeria’s training camp, with expectations of him recovering for the upcoming tournament starting on Saturday.

Mbappe undecisive about future – Reports

Kylian Mbappé, the forward for Paris Saint-Germain, is expected to make a decision about his club’s future in the coming weeks, according to sources cited by ESPN.

If he chooses to leave PSG, Real Madrid and Liverpool are reportedly the most likely destinations.

Mbappé’s contract with PSG expires in June, and he has chosen not to trigger the one-year extension option, making him free to negotiate with other clubs for a summer move under the Bosman ruling.

Real Madrid, who have been long-time admirers of Mbappé, are considered the frontrunners for his signature.

Despite recent reports suggesting an agreement has been reached, ESPN sources indicate that no formal agreement has been made, and there are ongoing discussions between the player and the club.

Sources also reveal that Mbappé has a strong admiration for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp. The 25-year-old forward has not ruled out a move to the Premier League.

However, a potential transfer to Liverpool might face challenges due to the club’s financial constraints, making it difficult to afford Mbappé’s current weekly wage of approximately €650,000.

Martial likely to leave Man Utd in January

Days of Manchester United striker Anthony Martial at the club seem numbered, with Fenerbahce emerging as the likely destination in January, either on loan or through a permanent deal, according to Sky Sports.

Martial, aged 28, is approaching the final six months of his contract with United.

Although the club has the option to extend for an additional year, it appears unlikely given that he doesn’t feature prominently in manager Erik ten Hag’s long-term plans.

While talks of a contract extension were hinted at by the United boss earlier in the week, it seems these discussions may only aim to prevent Martial from leaving on a free transfer in the summer.

The club might trigger his extension and then consider sending him out on loan, paving the way for a permanent departure later.

Fenerbahce is reportedly keen on securing Martial on a permanent deal in January, hoping for a favourable bid due to his expiring contract. The Turkish club had already submitted a £6.8 million offer earlier in the week.

Despite interest from Inter Milan and West Ham United, Fenerbahce remains a preferred option for the French international.

Don’t allow yourself to be taken for a fool—Nana Yaa Brefo to youth about Cheddar’s ‘New Force’

Outspoken media personality Nana Yaa Brefo has offered a word of caution to the youth, advising them to exercise extreme care in choosing the political movements they support leading up to the 2024 general elections.

She emphasised the critical need for Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to be vigilant and thoughtful in their support choices, as it could have potential negative impacts on their lives in the future.

Nana Yaa Brefo’s remarks came in response to Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, officially revealing himself as the force behind The New Force political movement.

Urging the general public to be cautious about the political movements they endorse, she emphasised the importance of avoiding future regrets.

“What was Cheddar saying? We should be very vigilant, especially the youth. Don’t allow anyone to take you for a fool. It was Constitution Day, right? So in everything, you should think very deeply before you decide to put yourself into anything. In anything, be it movements, foundations, charity revolutions or whatever, think twice before subscribing to it.

She further urged Ghanaians to follow international politics to help them make prudent decisions when it comes to electing leaders.

“If you study US politics, you’d realise that the system is trying to push Donald Trump out, but at the same time, they’ve realised he has supporters so it’s becoming someway. Follow international politics and relate it to our own.”

Cheddar officially revealed himself as the figure behind The New Force political movement following the last-minute cancellation of the scheduled convention program at Independence Square due to unforeseen circumstances.

The announcement generated mixed reactions on social media, with some expressing scepticism about his potential to lead the country.

  • Ladies, if you want your man to respect you, don’t do these 3 things

Ladies, if you want your man to respect you, don’t do these 3 things

In any healthy relationship, respect is an important foundation that both partners must contribute to and uphold.

When it comes to respect in a relationship, not only men need it; women also need to be respected too.

To maintain a strong and respectful connection, both partners need to be mindful of their actions.

Here are three things women should avoid to foster respect in their relationships:

    1. Accepting gifts after disrespect instead of an apology:

One common pitfall in relationships is the tendency to replace genuine apologies with material gestures.

When a man errs and attempts to smooth things over with gifts or compliments instead of a sincere apology, it can be harmful to the relationship.

Allowing this behaviour to persist may signal that disrespect can be overlooked with the right gift. It’s important to communicate that genuine apologies and accountability are non-negotiable components of a healthy relationship.

    2. Taking disrespect in silence:

If you are unhappy with how you’ve been treated, address it, don’t gloss over it. What you tolerate will only escalate. Keeping your feelings within you and acting like everything is okay won’t help.

By expressing your unhappiness with the way you’ve been treated, you set the stage for open communication.

Healthy relationships thrive on honest conversations, and addressing issues as they arise prevents the escalation of problems. A good partner will appreciate your honesty and be willing to work on improving the relationship.

    3. Not being firm on your principles and standards:

Respecting oneself is as vital as respecting the other person in a relationship. When a woman allows her partner to disrespect her without consequences, it can lead to a pattern of disregard for her feelings.

If a woman communicates her expectations and remains firm in her values, it sets the tone for a relationship built on mutual respect.

Fostering respect in a relationship is a shared responsibility. Both partners must actively contribute to creating a space where each feels valued and heard.

By avoiding these three common pitfalls, women can contribute to a healthier dynamic where respect is upheld as a cornerstone of love and partnership.

Being firm on personal principles and standards is not about being inflexible but rather about establishing healthy boundaries.

Guinness World Record: I will do another sing-a-thon if I fail this one – Afua Asantewaa

Afua Asantewaa, Ghanaian aiming to set the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon, has shared her plans in the event of an initial rejection.

She mentioned her intention to reapply for the sing-a-thon attempt if the first endeavour doesn’t achieve the desired positive outcome.

Currently taking a break to rest and ensure her well-being during the marathon, Afua Asantewaa remains hopeful about successfully breaking the Guinness World Record, which has garnered attention and acclaim in the country.

“It has not been easy. Those who are saying I should relax, I am doing it and Royal Senchi [hotel] is giving me the best treatment ever. We are waiting for the Guinness World Record results.

“Whatever it will be, if we have it, that’s fine. But if we don’t, we are trying again until they finally give it to us but I know we are going to have it,” she said in a video shared by Mari. Gyata on her Instagram page.

This comes after Afua Asantewaa finally submitted evidence of her attempt to the ‘Guinness Book of Records for the longest singing by an individual’ on January 6, 2024.

Afua Asantewaa’s Guinness World Record ‘singathon’ journey ended on Friday, December 29, 2023, after she was able to achieve 126 hours, which surpasses the 105-hour record.

It remains to be seen whether she will be adjudged as being able to break the record upon review by the Guinness World Record team.

Kudus reported to miss AFCON 2023 due to a hamstring injury

Mohammed Kudus may be facing a more severe hamstring injury than initially thought, raising doubts about his availability for Ghana’s opening AFCON game against Cape Verde on Sunday.

The 23-year-old reported hamstring tightness after West Ham’s victory over Arsenal, prompting an assessment by the club and communication of the injury to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Although expected to rejoin the team last week, Kudus’ return has been delayed, requiring an additional 5-6 days for full fitness. Currently in Ghana, he is working intensively with physiotherapists to expedite his recovery before the team’s departure to Ivory Coast on Wednesday.

The decision to include Kudus in the initial match against Cape Verde remains uncertain due to his compromised fitness resulting from missed training sessions and the Namibia friendly.

Despite earlier indications of his possible return today, recent developments suggest a longer-than-expected period of sidelining.

Having missed the 2021 AFCON due to a rib fracture, Kudus is determined to make his debut in the competition for the Black Stars. Notably, his time at Ajax included a hamstring injury in April 2023, sidelining him for four games.

Ghana finds themselves in Group B, alongside Mohammed Kudus may, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.

Richard Kingson also said this about TB Joshua in 2013

In October 2013, the renowned Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Kingson made a significant revelation about the influence of the then-leader of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), TB Joshua, on his career.

Kingson disclosed that TB Joshua played a pivotal role in Ghana’s qualification for the 2014 World Cup by accurately predicting that Ghana would defeat Egypt. According to Kingson, TB Joshua foresaw his return to the Black Stars and emphasised that he would play a crucial role in securing Ghana’s qualification for the 2014 World Cup.

He added: “As usual, He (Prophet TB Joshua) calls me often; we talk and he encourages me and prophesies to me that I will play again and my people (Ghana) will come for me, so the prophecy he said about me all came to pass,” he told Oman FM.

“Before the Egypt game, he called me often to encourage me and he told me you (Ghana) would qualify and those were the words he used: you would qualify.

“He called me about three times on the day of the match; even a day before the match, which was Monday night, he called me and said, Everything is ok, everything is alright, you guys will do well.”

Richard Kingson shared the same sentiment with some Ghanaians, who claimed the 6-1 victory over the Egyptians was a miracle.

“Yes, it is a miracle. Because the day were paired with the Egyptians, the whole of Ghana started grumbling and they were afraid that these people (the Egyptians) are very strong and they will destroy our team so this scoreline is a miracle for Ghanaians and no one was expecting this; it’s a miracle,” Kingson stressed.

The BBC recently broadcast a widely-publicized investigative documentary featuring a powerful African pastor accused of subjecting his members to horrifying human rights abuses. Surprisingly, the pastor revealed in the documentary turned out to be the late globally renowned Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua of the Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN).

On January 8, 2024, the BBC released a three-part series titled “DISCIPLES: The Cult of TB Joshua,” with each part averaging 50 minutes. An exclusive screening of the documentary is scheduled in Accra on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

In the videos shared by GhanaWeb, victims of Joshua’s alleged abuses narrated their harrowing experiences. Many spoke with deep pain, revealing that they were under the impression they were the only ones being abused by Joshua, unaware that it involved numerous others.

Some victims, who were close associates of Joshua, talked about his love for money, the manipulation of his disciples, and his confessed vow to retaliate for the excesses of colonialism. The documentary also highlighted Joshua’s influence in political circles, with visits to presidents and other African leaders making appearances at SCOAN.

Temitope Balogun Joshua, widely known as T.B. Joshua, was a Nigerian charismatic pastor, televangelist, and philanthropist.

NAM1 has returned in Cheddar, Arise, Ghana youth – Afia Schwarzenegger warns Ghanaians

Popular and controversial Ghanaian socialite Afia Schwarzenegger is cautioning Ghanaians about Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, following his revelation that he is the force behind ‘The New Force’ political movement.

Afia Schwarzenegger drew parallels with the situation involving the CEO of Menzgold Company Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), whose company has faced challenges in meeting customer demands.

She urged Ghanaians not to forget the lessons from the Menzgold issues and to be wary of Cheddar’s promises to rescue the country from its current difficulties. In a TikTok live session, she likened Cheddar to the new NAM1, advising against trusting his salvation message.

“Not all that glitters is gold; what NAM1 was doing was so fraudulent that it was only idiots that couldn’t see. You all fell for it and now how far did it go? How much of your locked funds have been paid? How many press conferences have you done so that he is still sitting on the money? You haven’t been paid yet, and you are allowing him to rebrand this boy to you, saying that we need salvation.

“If we need it, is it a person with fraudulent papers who will give us salvation? Why didn’t Freedom [Cheddar] use his actual name to hire Independence Square if he knew what he was coming to do was so genuine? Arise, Ghana youth,” she said.

Cheddar made an official announcement, revealing himself as the driving force behind The New Force political movement. This revelation came after the planned convention program at Independence Square was abruptly cancelled at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances.

The news stirred diverse reactions on social media, with some expressing skepticism about his prospects of leading the country.

    Cheddar’s message

Speaking at his unveiling, Cheddar disclosed he had a vision for the continent.

“I am nothing to be scared of. I came to you as your salvation. I don’t invest in myself alone. I am investing in you,” he said of his plans for Ghana and Africa.

“We need to educate. We need to uplift our children. We need to voice out to them. You are about to find out about this man in the mask because I never spoke a word; you were looking for me.

“I didn’t tell you whether I am into politics, whether I am an evangelist, whether I am a conventionist or a revolutionist. After this day, you will have to wait for me to share my policies and my visions with you,” he stressed.

He emphasised that the events of January 7 had given him enough reason to disclose his political identity.

“And if I’m the reason why the country or the government is not happy about these great voices coming to educate not only Ghana but also Africa, then I take this moment to sacrifice myself, to unveil myself, because I have much respect for these great leaders beside me.

“I would have taken my own time to tell you that I am. But for this very moment, I am sacrificing myself to let you know that I’m that man.

“But I’m that man with a good purpose and a great vision. I have a plan, and I have a vision for this nation. And not only for this nation; I have it for Africa too.

“But I know Africa is the next biggest thing because out of all the continents that have been developed in this world, there is only one continent that is not developed and I am sent to do that,” he added.

Suicide mission – ‘Bitter’ Black Rasta again on Chef Faila’s cook-a-thon

Controversial radio personality and musician Blakk Rasta has raised concerns about Chef Faila’s ongoing attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.

Expressing worry about the potential health risks involved, he emphasised that depriving oneself of sufficient sleep for three days or more could have detrimental effects.

Blakk Rasta labeled Chef Faila’s cooking marathon as a ‘suicide mission’ and cautioned against such endeavours, stating that the current trend of embarking on various marathons in the nation needs careful consideration for individuals’ well-being.

“In Ghana, they want to do sex-a-thon. Some people want to do a stand-a-thon. They stand like this for 5 hours. No sleeping, no nothing for 5 hours. Some also want to do a` kiss-a-thon; they want to kiss. That was a photograph of Chef Faila doing her things in Tamale there. And again, as much as we love them and appreciate them, I will not endorse a suicide mission.

“And for me, losing sleep for more than three days is a suicide mission. I will not support that. I don’t know about you. You call it pushing the limit but I call it a suicide mission. We pray that they do not lose their lives and that they learn a lesson that will help the whole nation,” he said in a video shared by Happyhome TV on their YouTube channel.

Chef Faila’s cooking marathon has reached Day 9, surpassing the 200-hour mark. Her goal is to complete a 240-hour cook-a-thon, and the event is taking place at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale.

The news, conveyed through a statement to the German news agency DPA, marks the end of an era for football enthusiasts worldwide.

Franz Beckenbauer, affectionately known as “Der Kaiser,” left an indelible mark on the sport, transitioning from a formidable player to an accomplished manager.

His crowning achievement came as the captain of West Germany when they clinched the World Cup in 1974. Born on September 11, 1945, in Munich, Beckenbauer’s influence extended beyond the international stage.

A stalwart for Bayern Munich, he played 582 times for the club, achieving domestic and European success both as a player and a manager.

President Tinubu suspends poverty minister over alleged diversion of $640,000 into personal bank account

    Nigeria’s president has
taken decisive action by suspending Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Minister Betta Edu amid allegations of diverting over 585 million naira ($640,000; £500,000) of public funds into a personal bank account.

The suspension, announced on Monday, followed a public outcry over the scandal, with President Bola Tinubu ordering a thorough investigation into Dr. Edu’s ministry. Dr. Edu has vehemently denied any wrongdoing in connection to the alleged financial impropriety.

Her office said she had approved the transfer into a personal account, which was not in her name, but said it was for the “implementation of grants to vulnerable groups.”.

The suspension of a minister is a rare occurrence in Nigeria, and Dr. Edu is the first to lose their job since President Tinubu assumed office in May last year. During his eight-year tenure, Tinubu’s predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, dismissed only two ministers.

Last week, leaked documents circulated in local media allegedly showed Dr. Edu instructing a senior Treasury official to transfer funds to the personal account of Bridget Oniyelu, the accountant for the government’s Grants for Vulnerable Groups initiative.

The revelation that the funds were directed to a personal account rather than a government one sparked public outrage.

President Tinubu, responding to the controversy, called for a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as stated in a release on Monday.

Ludogorets striker Bernard Tekpetey believes that winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title will be a challenging task for the Black Stars.

Despite an impressive performance with 11 goals and seven assists for Ludogorets this season, Tekpetey was not included in the final squad after initially being part of the 55-man roster.

In an interview with Asempa FM, monitored by Footballghana.com, the Bulgarian-based striker acknowledged the difficulty of Ghana securing the title. However, he expressed optimism that, with the support and prayers of Ghanaians, the team has the potential to excel.

“The AFCON tournament will be difficult but as Ghanaians, we need to support the team. Winning the trophy will not be easy for Ghana but with support and prayers from Ghanaians, the team can excel.”

“In previous years, the Black Stars were loved by Ghanaians, so if we will bring it back, I think the players available are really good enough to do something good.”

The Black Stars are set to compete for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in Ivory Coast this month, with the tournament scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024. Ghana, drawn in Group B, will face Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde in the group phase.

Ghana has a storied history in the AFCON, winning the title four times, with the last triumph in 1982. However, since then, they have faced defeats in three finals, including losses to Ivory Coast in 1992 and 2015, both on penalties, and to Egypt in 2010. Despite the challenges, the Black Stars aim to secure their fifth AFCON title, and the support and prayers of Ghanaians are seen as crucial for the team’s success.

  • There’s pressure at Utd; not every player can play here – Erik ten Hag

There’s pressure at Utd; not every player can play here – Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag has suggested that some players may struggle with the pressure of playing for Manchester United, although he maintains that signing for the club remains “the best challenge” for any footballer.

Ten Hag has approved Donny van de Beek’s loan transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt during the January window, while Jadon Sancho is poised to go back to Borussia Dortmund, also on loan.

Van de Beek, previously shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or, joined United for £35 million from Ajax in 2020, and Sancho, one of Europe’s most promising young talents, arrived in a £73 million deal from Dortmund in 2021.

Ten Hag emphasizes that it’s not always the club’s fault when high-profile signings don’t live up to expectations.

“That is always on those players and how much confidence you have in your capabilities but I can tell you one thing; the Premier League is tough,” said Ten Hag.

“Man United; that is tough to play there because it’s easier to play in almost any other team than Man United because the pressure is that high, always. You have to deal with that.

“But if you have confidence in yourself, this is the best challenge and this is definitely the best club you want to be at as a player. It depends from player to player, and it depends especially on the character of the player, their personality.”

Sancho’s dip in form since his transfer to Old Trafford two-and-a-half years ago has seen the 23-year-old — exiled at United for the four months following a public fall-out with Ten Hag –– lose his place in the England squad while Van de Beek was never able to win a regular place in midfield.

Van de Beek excelled under Ten Hag in a team that reached the Champions League semifinals in 2019 but the United manager said a series of injuries meant he was never able to reach the same level at Old Trafford.”.

He has had many injuries, first of all,” said Ten Hag.

“I worked with him for two years [at United] and before he was under different managers here. He had a loan before as well. Actually, from the first moment I came in here at Manchester United, he wasn’t the player he was at Ajax because he was injured.

“So many times he was not available and then he struggled for a long time to recover from that injury. That is probably the main reason why he was not playing.

“We decided on a loan in the summer but it didn’t come and then his opportunities are few because we also make appointments and agreements with players and contract players in that position. The competition was high.”
