President Akufo-Addo is calling for a formal apology and reparations from the Western world, condemning the inhumane treatment Africans endured during the slave trade.
He asserts that Africa deserves compensation for the human rights abuses suffered under slave masters.
Speaking at the inaugural Accra Reparation Conference, President Akufo-Addo emphasised the necessity of reparations, stating that European countries involved in the slave trade must apologise for the crimes committed against Africans.
“It is time for Africa, thirty million of whose sons and daughters had their freedoms curtailed and sold into slavery, to also receive reparations.
“No amount of money can restore the damage caused by the Transatlantic Slave Trade and its consequences, which spanned many centuries, but surely, this is a matter that the world must confront and can no longer ignore.”
“And even before these discussions on reparations conclude, the entire continent of Africa deserves a formal apology from the European nations involved in the slave trade.”
West Blue Ghana Limited has initiated legal action against the Attorney-General (AG) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at the Commercial Division of the High Court in Accra, contesting the termination of the National Single Window and Integrated Risk Management System (NSW) contract, with a claimed value exceeding GH¢289 million.
The contractual agreement, established on August 4, 2015, involved West Blue providing technical services to facilitate efficient cargo clearance through the sea and airports.
Despite the ongoing delivery of services under the NSW, the GRA and the Ministry of Finance terminated the contract, leading West Blue to pursue legal recourse after unsuccessful attempts to recover outstanding debts.
The lawsuit seeks to recover GH¢149,357,692.71 as unpaid fees for services rendered between September 2015 and September 2017.
This amount is calculated at 0.35 percent of the final invoice value of import consignments entering Ghana through various borders.
Additionally, West Blue aims to reclaim GH¢76,097,917.58 for services provided from October 2017 to December 31, 2018, and GH¢64,092,215.07 for services rendered from January 1, 2019, to May 2020.
The company is also pursuing the recovery of equipment acquired for obligations under the NSW contract and additional services provided during the specified period.
West Blue underscored in its statement of claim that the NSW contract was aligned with the government’s policy to implement a National Electronic Single Window, promoting efficiency and cost savings for traders involved in cross-border cargo movements with government authorities.
The company was contractually obliged to deliver technical services and support activities to the GRA and associated agencies in line with the government program.
Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, has expressed disapproval of the South Tongu District Chief Executive (DCE), Seth Agbi, for the act of locking up relief items meant for victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.
This rebuke follows widespread public criticism of the DCE’s inaction, resulting in essential aid being stranded at the District Assembly due to a lack of fuel for distribution.
During an appearance on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, Mr. Letsa criticised the DCE’s actions, stating that he should have demonstrated better judgement.
The Regional Minister disclosed that the DCE has been reprimanded, and there is a possibility of further actions being taken against him in the coming days.
The public outcry prompted a response from the regional authorities, highlighting the need for proper handling and distribution of relief items in crisis situations.
“The first thing I did yesterday was to reprimand him,” Mr Letsa stated firmly, emphasizing the gravity of the DCE’s negligence. “I am in discussions with the appointing authorities to see what next happens, whether a warning or something else,” he continued, hinting at the possibility of further disciplinary measures.
The District Chief Executive’s (DCE) decision to lock up the relief items triggered widespread public outrage, with numerous calls for his dismissal.
Following the circulation of a viral video featuring the DCE’s controversial comments, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) intervened to assume control of the relief item distribution.
Collins Avornu, the NADMO director for South Tongu, affirmed that the organization had been actively engaged in distributing relief items for the past three weeksfollowing the Akosombo Dam spillage.
He refuted any suggestion that the DCE’s video was the cause of the relief item distribution, clarifying the ongoing efforts by NADMO in responding to the crisis.
Chief Executive Officer of the now-defunctMenzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, commonly known as NAM1, claimed to have deposited GH¢5 million with the Ghana Police Service.
According to NAM1, this amount was intended for distribution to customers of the collapsed firm as part of a reimbursement process.
However, the government has refuted these claims.
The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, addressed the issue in Parliament, stating that only GH¢2.5 million was received from NAM1, contradicting the reported GH¢5 million.
NAM1 had specified that the funds were meant for customers who successfully completed a verification process conducted by Menzgold, including those eligible for a GH¢2.5 million judgment debt.
The discrepancy between NAM1’s statementand the government’s response adds to the ongoing complexities surrounding the Menzgold saga.
The accurate amount deposited and the subsequent distribution process remain points of contention between the involved parties.
“The record I have before me indicates that an amount of GH¢2.5 million was paid, so the claim of GH¢5 million having been paid to the Ghana Police Service is untrue. It was only GH¢2.5 million that was paid to the Ghana Police Service by the accused person.”
Customers who were adversely affected by the suspension of operations by Menzgold in 2018 have been fervently demanding the release of their funds.
The company, which halted its activities in the wake of the suspension, has faced allegations of operating a Ponzi scheme.
Nana Appiah Mensah, widely recognized as NAM1, is presently undergoing trial for fraud. The legal proceedings underscore the serious accusations leveled against him and the company.
The aggrieved customers continue to seek resolution and restitution for the financial losses they experienced due to the suspension of Menzgold’s operations.
1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, has expressed the view that any astute Ghanaian would favour Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), over the opposition National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) candidate, ex-President John Dramani Mahama, for the next leadership role in Ghana.
He contends that a thorough examination of the track records of the two individuals would reveal that Dr. Bawumia surpasses Mahama. Osei Owusu, also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bekwai, further asserted that the vice president outshines Mahama in terms of competencies and personalities.
“(Dr Bawumia’s) chances are very bright… There are people who would vote for a party and a party symbol; there are no two ways about it. But anybody who wants to evaluate them has had their own independent and respective roles in the past (sic).
“I’m sure that if you place Bawumia against Mahama, Bawumia would always outshine Mahama,” he said in an interview on JoyNews on Monday, November 13, 2023.
He added thatBawumia outshines Mahama “based on what they have done in the past, what ideas they have thrown out, how they have helped implement them and their quality of person and integrity”.
Members of Parliament have acknowledged an error in the passage of the Companies Act 2019, specifically concerning a provision that prohibits a person facing charges from serving as a company director.
This provision, deemed inconsistent with the 1992 Constitution by a Supreme Court order, has prompted MPs to admit to the mistake.
According to a report by citinewsroom.com, Parliament has urged the office of the Attorney General to bring the matter before Parliament for necessary corrections.
The constitutional issue leading to this decision originated from a case filed by lawyer Derick Adu-Gyamfi, who argued that certain subsections of the Act were unconstitutional and violated principles such as fair hearing.
Tamale South Member of Parliament (MP), Haruna Iddrisu, openly acknowledged the legislative error related to the disqualified director provision. He called on the Attorney General to promptly present an amendment to Parliament for review and approval.
“In the company’s code we passed, we said that if a person is charged with an offence, that person does not qualify to be a director. We erred and we should eat our humble pie, and by this, invite the learned Attorney General to come urgently to this House with proposed amendments to the company’s code so that we right those wrong,” Haruna Iddrisu stated.
MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, who seconded the call, shared her opinion.
“I don’t want to over-buttress the point that indeed the Supreme Court has done a great job, and the Attorney General, I am sure, has heard the ruling of the Supreme Court and will do the needful and bring a proposed bill only to amend that portion of the company’s code,” she added.
Government of Ghana has approved a 23 percent increase in the base pay for all public servants for the first half of 2024 (from January 2024 to June 2024) and a 25 percent increase for the second half (July 2024 to December 2024).
According to a document published by GhanaWeb, the decision was reached during a meeting on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, between the government and Organised Labour.
The document specifies that the government was represented by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), and the Ministry of Finance (MoF).
On the other hand, organised labour was represented by unions, associations, and institutions within the Public Service of Ghana.
“Whereas the Parties negotiating as the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee (PSJSNC) have concluded negotiations for the 2024 Single Spine Salary Structure Base Pay as follows:
“TERMS OF AGREEMENT: 1. That the Base Pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) has been increased by 23% across the board from January 2024 to June 2024. 2. That from July 2024 to December 2024, the Base Pay would be readjusted to 25%,” parts of the document read.
The document had the signatures of the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah; Chief Executive Officer of FWSC, Benjamin Arthur; Secretary General of TUC, Dr Anthony Yaw Baah; and Chairman of FORUM, Dr Isaac Bampo Addo, as witnesses to the agreement reached.
Ghanaian musician Mujahid Ahmed Bello, widely known as Fancy Gadam, has reflected on the challenges he faced during the early stages of his music career.
In his account, it took him four years to produce his first album in 2010, marking his recognition as a musician in the northern regional capital, Tamale.
The artist shared that he encountered disappointment after his debut concert in the Upper West Region, specifically in Wa, where only seventeen attendees showed up.
Despite the low turnout, Fancy Gadam remained undeterred, persisting with a performance that showcased his potential, hopeful that those present would help spread the word to a larger audience.
“My first show in the Upper West was a flop show,” he said. “Because I was thinking I’m very big in the North. I’m very big in Tamale, so I can venture to these places. Not knowing when you are big in someplace doesn’t mean you are big everywhere.”
He continued: “So my first show in the Upper West, that is in Wa, I had about 17 people who showed up but I performed.”
Fancy Gadam made these remarks in an interview with JoyPrime TV.
When Fancy Gadam was quizzed on how he felt after 17 people showed up at his concert in Wa, he responded, “You know how it feels? Heartbreaking. But I told my team to put it in their minds that the place was filled to capacity. We should make sure we deliver well to the people who came to the event.
“And then we did. We did our best to perform very well for the 17 people. And then the following year, the 17 people started spreading my name in the Upper West and that’s how I became popular.
“They told me, and they’ve been saying, ‘That guy is a good performer because I’m a dancer as well.’ So even if you don’t understand what I’m saying, maybe on stage you will feel the energy.”
Fancy Gadam is one of the renowned musicians inGhana whose song titled ‘Total Cheat’ won the Most Popular Song of the Year in 2018 at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Organised Labour has submitted a proposal to the government, seeking an increase of over 70 percent in the base pay for the 2024 financial year.
They attribute this demand to the escalating cost of living in the country and the broader impacts of the economic challenges being felt across various sectors.
Joshua Ansah, the Deputy General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), stated that while organised labour was open to negotiating the figure to around 60 percent, the government has outrightly rejected the demand.
Instead, the government has proposed a 15 percent increment in the base pay for the year 2024.
“When we tabled the 75.1%, the government came with 10%…that is why we reviewed our stance to 60%,” Joshua Ansah is quoted to have by Accra-based Joy FM.
He underscored the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns put forth by the labor unions and advocated for a collaborative consensus to be reached during the negotiation process.
“We are praying for them to accept something that will not break the back of the government. For me, I cannot give a figure to you now but we are working with them” the deputy minister noted.
Meanwhile, the government and labour unions entered a second day of negotiations to address the demands but the meeting ended inconclusively on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
The Labour leadership is in discussions about presenting a motion in the Commons regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict according to an earlier report by SkyNews.
The purpose is to prevent internal party divisions over whether to support a ceasefire or humanitarian pauses.
A party spokesperson has now confirmed these plans.
The intention is to propose a motion that all Labour MPs can support, aiming to deter around 20 frontbenchers and numerous MPs from backing an SNP motion advocating for an immediate ceasefire.
Sir Keir Starmer has consistently called for a humanitarian pause in the conflict to facilitate aid to Palestinians.
However, he has resisted calls to demand a ceasefire, arguing that such a cessation would provide Hamas with an opportunity to re-arm and potentially launch further attacks on Israel, as indicated by the group’s spokespersons.
The spokesperson said: “Labour’s amendment reaffirms the position set out in Keir Starmer’s Chatham House speech and reflects our concerns about what we’ve seen on the ground in the last fortnight, which includes the lack of hostage release, the insufficient amount of aid and utilities getting in and being distributed, the scale of civilian casualties in Gaza and the amount of violence in the West Bank.”
Suella Braverman has just published a scathing resignation letter after she was sacked by Rishi Sunak as home secretary yesterday.
After a paragraph expressing pride in her record in the post, Mrs Braverman writes: “Despite you having been rejected by a majority of party members during the summer leadership contest and thus having no personal mandate to be prime minister, I agreed to support you because of the firm assurances you gave me on key policy priorities.
“Those priorities were reducing illegal migration, excluding parts of international law from new legislation aimed at stopping small boat crossings, delivering the Northern Ireland Protocol and the retained EU law legislation as they were a year ago (and have since changed), and issuing statutory guidance protecting biological sex.”
But she writes: “You have manifestly and repeatedly failed to deliver on every single one of these key policies.”
She accuses him of a “betrayal of our agreement” that put Mr Sunak in Downing Street and a “betrayal of your promise to the nation that you would do ‘whatever it takes’ to stop the boats”.
The ex-home secretary also accuses the prime minister of a “failure to rise to the challenge posed by the increasingly vicious antisemitism and extremism displayed on our streets” since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.
She labels his response to “the rising tide of racism, intimidation, and terrorist glorification” as “uncertain, weak, and lacking in the qualities of leadership that this country needs”.
Concluding the letter, she writes: “Someone needs to be honest: your plan is not working, we have endured record election defeats, your resets have failed and we are running out of time.”
Mrs Braverman acknowledges that she “may not have always found the right words” to express her views, but says she has “always striven to give voice to the quiet majority that supported us in 2019”.
But she adds, “I will, of course, continue to support the government in pursuit of policies that align with an authentic conservative agenda.”
Shortly after Suella Braverman released her scathing resignation letter, Tory MPs began publicly expressing their reactions.
Michael Fabricant, the MP for Lichfield, wrote on X that it was “no ordinary resignation letter” but “an indictment listing all the charges”.
“Will there be a detailed rebuttal from the prime minister?” he added.
Simon Clarke, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, described it as “a devastating letter”.
He went on: “I hope the government wins tomorrow’s Supreme Court case.
Suella-braverman-resignation-letter and sack letter
“However, win or lose, how the government then proceeds will be a litmus test of whether it is serious about fixing the wholly unacceptable scale of illegal immigration or simply talking about it.”
Former minister Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg—no supporter of Mr Sunak these days—did not comment on the substance of the letter but tweeted: “Suella doesn’t mince her words.”
And William Wragg, MP for Hazel Grove, mocked Mrs Braverman, writing: “Infamy, infamy. They’ve all got it in for me!”
Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford has treasured a pair of trainers gifted to him byCristiano Ronaldo in 2018, revealing that he has never worn them, stating, “No one can touch them!”
The England international received this special gift from Ronaldo during the latter’s time at Real Madrid before they became teammates at Old Trafford in the summer of 2021.
Rashford, a long-time admirer of the Portuguese superstar, took possession of a pair of Nike Air Max 97 CRY Red trainers in April 2018. Although the footwear was originally valued at £145, its sentimental worth to Rashford now renders it priceless.
More than five years on from getting a gift from Ronaldo, Rashford has told Sneaker Shopping why they have never graced his feet: “No one can touch them! He was one of my favourite players growing up. I liked the shoe; I’d love to wear it, but if I mess them up, then I don’t know what I’d do to myself. So, I’m just better to keep those ones away.”
At 26 years old, Rashford has evolved into a fashion icon and trendsetter, showcasing his style at Paris Fashion Week alongside Jude Bellingham earlier this year.
Additionally, he has been featured on the front cover of Vogue, further solidifying his influence in the world of fashion.
The 40-year-old is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in December of last year. Following his arrest in January, he was held in prison.
A Barcelona court has now determined that there are adequate grounds to proceed with a trial.
Should he be found guilty of the charges, the former full-back, who maintains that the encounter was consensual, could face a prison sentence ranging from four to 15 years.
A document released by the court and signed by three judges read: “The statements of the alleged victim and the witnesses statements and experts’ reports that appear in the case must be considered sufficient for this purpose, without prejudice to the final outcome following the plenary phase.”
Defender Abdul Mumin and winger Kamaldeen Sulemana have withdrawn from the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros this month.
Initially named in Chris Hughton’s 25-man squad for the two games, the duo was expected to report to camp on Monday, November 13.
However, a late injury to Mumin, the Rayo Vallecano centre-back, has ruled him out of the matches scheduled for Friday, November 17, and Tuesday, November 21.
Mumin, who received his first Black Stars call-up under Hughton, will have to wait for another opportunity to join the Irish gaffer’s team due to the injury setback.
Kamaldeen, who also missed the friendly games against Mexico and the United States of America last month, will once again be absent for the opening games of the qualifiers.
The void left by the injured players has been filled by Medeama Sporting Club’s Nurudeen Abdulai and Leicester City’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.
Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu, John Jinapor, claims the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, will impose a new tax in the 2024 Budget to raise an additional GH 11 billion.
“We just met the Minister of Finance at the Finance Committee and the minister indicated that he intends to raise an additional GH₵11 billion, which is about 1 percent of GDP but we have told him that we think that the people have been taxed so much that it will be inappropriate to come with new taxes; rather, the minister should look at cost cutting,” Jinapor said.
He added, “I think that it is improper and unacceptable to further come out with new taxes and increase the tax burden on Ghanaians.”
The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, is set to present the government’s 2024 Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
Leading up to the presentation, there are widespread calls for the government to significantly curtail its expenditures to alleviate the struggling economy.
Last week, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dalex Finance and Leasing Company Limited, Kenneth Thompson, issued a warning about a potential economic downturn in 2024 if the government persists in its current trend of escalating and substantial expenditures.
In related discussions, Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Paul Twum Barimah, hinted at the government’s potential introduction of an emission tax to address the impacts of climate change.
Also, Albert Sandaare, theMember of Parliament for Daffeama Bussie Issa, suggested that the government should consider either eliminating the COVID-19 levy or renaming it.
Elder Kenneth Nana Amoateng and Mrs. Vera Nana Yaa Amoateng, members of Tema Community 1 Assembly of The Church of Pentecost, have welcomed a set of five children after enduring eight years of a childless marriage.
The quintuplets consist of four lovely girls and a lively baby boy named Kezia, Kendalyn, Kenia, Kendra, and Kenaniah.
On Sunday, November 8, 2020, they were named and dedicated by the Tema Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Matthew Larbi Wettey, with assistance from Pastor John Mensah Yanney of Tema Community 1 District.
Expressing his immense joy and gratitude, Elder Nana Amoateng, the current Presiding Elder of the Community 1 Assembly, thanked God for the miracle he and his wife have received.
Elder Nana Amoateng, employed by a non-governmental organisation (NGO), revealed that he and Vera got married in October 2013 with hopes of being blessed with children.
Despite years passing without any sign of conception, they maintained faith in God for a miracle.
In October 2019, their prayers were answered when Vera conceived, leading to the birth of the quintuplets in May 2020.
Daniel Okafor, the second son of the actor widely known as Mr. Ibu, John Okafor, responded to online reports suggesting that the actor’s bank account was taken over by Jasmine, his abducted child.
This comes in the wake of allegations made by Stella Okafor, the actor’s wife, who, in an Instagram post, asserted that funds intended for supporting the actor’s well-being had been misappropriated.
Her post partly read, “I do not have access to the main Access bank account where people make donations.
“It is being secretly controlled by Jazmine yet she is cooking up all kinds of lies and propaganda against me to keep absolute control of that account. How she manipulated her way and took control of that account is a story for another day.”
When contacted, Jasmine said she had no comment because she didn’t want to be involved in any family drama.
“I do not want to be involved with the online drama, at least not yet. I am more concerned for Daddy’s well-being,” she said.
Jasmine recommended that our correspondent converse with the individual identifying himself as Daniel Okafor, the son of Mr. Ibu.
“My name is Daniel Okafor; I am John Okafor’s second son. There is no truth in what Stella Maris has been sharing online. Jasmine does not have access to that account; I have access to it. I am the signatory to the account and my father’s next of kin.”
Daniel also disclosed that Stella Maris is his stepmother, refusing to share more details about his mother.
“She is my stepmother. My mother is not around at the moment,” Daniel said.
In a scandal that rocked the community of La Vergne, Tennessee, 27-year-old Maegan Hall, a former police officer, faced serious allegations of engaging in intimate relationships with multiple colleagues around eight months ago.
The controversy, which unfolded in February 2023, led to the dismissal of Hall and several other officers from the La Vergne Police Department. The revelations came to light after an internal probe exposed Hall’s alleged involvement with six of her male colleagues.
Hall was accused of having a ‘fetish’ for Black men, according to court documents, and the ensuing scandal created a ripple effect, causing significant upheaval within the police department.
Maegan Hall countered the accusations with a federal lawsuit, claiming she was a victim of grooming and abuse by her senior officers, including Police Chief Burrel ‘Chip’ Davis and Sgt. Lewis Powell.
The legal battle unfolded as both Davis and Powell were fired in connection with the scandal.
Powell, 42, retaliated with a counterclaim, asserting that Hall persistently flirted and pressured him into engaging in sexual relations.
The court documents reveal disturbing details of Hall’s alleged advances, including explicit text messages and requests for sexual demonstrations.
The filing recounts Powell’s account, stating, “She began by talking about sex, complaining about her own marital life. After Powell suggested ways to spice up her relationship, Hall asked him to demonstrate, claiming it would help her please her husband.”
As the scandal unfolded, it was revealed that Hall allegedly pursued Powell, leading to oral sex encounters. Powell claimed that Hall’s advances ceased when he tried to amicably end the relationship. The countersuit suggests that Hall then moved on to engage in relationships with multiple other officers.
The situation reached a boiling point about eight months ago, leading to an internal investigation by the La Vergne Police Department. The lawsuit alleges that the City of La Vergne, along with specific officers, played a role in Hall’s public ridicule and shaming.
Hall’s lawsuit contends that she gained unwanted international notoriety, becoming the subject of internet jokes and memes.
The document claims that, but for the alleged sexual grooming and abuse, Hall would not have faced such a degree of public scrutiny.
UNILAD reached out to the La Vergne Police Department and Hall’s legal representatives for comments as the legal battle continued to unfold.
The scandal not only shook the La Vergne Police Department but also raised questions about the accountability and conduct of its officers.
City leaders took steps to address the issue, seeking the decertification of some officers to prevent them from being employed by other departments.
The aftermath of this shocking revelation left the community in a state of shock and disappointment, with city leaders and citizens alike grappling with the implications of the misconduct within their police force.
The convictions of 110 black soldiers arrested in the aftermath of the 1917 Houston Riots have been overturned by the US Army.
A military review determined that the soldiers were subjected to unfair trials and were “wrongly treated” because of their race.
Consequently, their records will be reclassified to acknowledge their military service as honorable.
The Houston Riots unfolded following months of racial provocations against members of a regiment referred to as the “Buffalo Soldiers.”
“By setting aside their convictions and granting honourable discharges, the Army is acknowledging past mistakes and setting the record straight,” Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth said in a statement on Monday.
The 3rd Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, constituted one of four regiments consisting entirely of black servicemen, commonly referred to as the “Buffalo Soldiers,” a nickname dating back to the 1860s.
The Houston Riots unfolded on August 23, 1917, stemming from prolonged racial tensions, including the violent arrest and assault of two black soldiers.
Fueled by rumors of additional threats to the soldiers from a white mob, a group of armed black soldiers gathered in the Texas city, leading to confrontations.
Tragically, nineteen individuals lost their lives in the violence, including civilians.
The army subsequently convicted 110 soldiers from the regiment on charges such as disobedience of lawful orders, mutiny, and assault with intent to commit murder.
The aftermath saw the execution of nineteen soldiers, with 13 secretly executed within a day of sentencing. Others received life sentences behind bars.
Historians say the process was “characterised by numerous irregularities”, the Army said.
In October 2020 and December 2021, the Army received petitions from retired general officers requesting clemency for all the soldiers.
Under Secretary of the Army Gabe Camarillo said: “We cannot change the past; however, this decision provides the Army and the American people an opportunity to learn from this difficult moment in our history.”
The Army has said relatives of the soldiers may be entitled to compensation.
The England jersey worn by Sir Bobby Charlton in the 1966 World Cup semi-final has been successfully auctioned off.
This autographed shirt was donned by the English football legend when he scored both goals in the Three Lions’ 2-1 victory over Portugal on July 26, 1966.
The iconic shirt was sold by Hansons Auctioneers, based in Derbyshire, to a private international bidder through online bidding, fetching a price of £59,040.
Sadly, Sir Bobby Charlton passed away last month at the age of 86, and his funeral was held at Manchester Cathedral on Monday.
His death triggered tributes from the global sports community, with numerous football players, managers, and pundits honouring him at the funeral.
Approximately 1,000 mourners attended the service, and crowds gathered along the streets to pay their respects as the procession arrived at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, where rounds of applause filled the air.
Sir Bobby Charlton scored both goals in England’s 2-1 win over Portugal on 26 July 1966
Sir Bobby is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time, having won the World Cup, the European Cup (now the Champions League), the First Division, the FA Cup and the Ballon d’Or.
He made 106 appearances for the Three Lions, scoring 49 goals for his country.
The Manchester United icon, in his 17-year footballing career with the Reds, played 758 games and scored 249 goals.
He died last month after a fall at a Cheshire care home, an inquest heard.
The journey of the shirt to auction began with a West Midlands man, a winner of Littlewoods Pools in the early 1990s. Opting to invest in football memorabilia, he acquired the iconic shirt for £9,200, an amount equivalent to about £20,000 today, at a London auction in 2000.
Charles Hanson, the proprietor of Hansons Auctioneers, remarked, “This important shirt was consigned to auction a year before news of Sir Bobby’s passing in October emerged. It had long been scheduled for Hansons’ November sporting auction.
“News of his loss came as a huge shock to us all. We were deeply saddened.
He was a football legend, admired by millions.
“We’re pleased to have been able to find this important shirt a new home. We hope it enhances memories of the tremendous role he played in the 1966 World Cup as the nation celebrates his life.”
Jesús Ociel Baena, Mexico’s inaugural openly non-binary member of the judiciary and a prominent LGBTQ+ activist, was found deceased at their residence.
The body of the magistrate was located on Monday in the central city of Aguascalientes, alongside the remains of a second individual, identified by local media as Baena’s partner.
Security Minister Rosa Icela Rodriguez said it was unclear “if it was a homicide or… some kind of accident”.
According to a statement from the state attorney general’s office, there was no sign that a third person had entered the house.
They said that a sharp object had been found and that preliminary findings suggested the incident could have been a personal matter.
The LGBTQ+ rights group Letra S has urged local authorities to investigate the deaths thoroughly and without prejudice.
Alejandro Brito, the group’s director, said that Baena, who used they/them pronouns, had received “many hate messages and even threats of violence and death”, the Associated Press reported.
Brito added that Baena had been “breaking through the invisible barriers that closed in the nonbinary community”.
In October 2022, at the age of 38, Jesús Ociel Baena assumed the role of a magistrate for the Aguascalientes state electoral court, marking a historic moment as the first non-binary individual in Latin America to hold a judicial position.
Furthermore, in June of the same year, Baena was among the inaugural recipients of gender-neutral passports.
“I am a non-binary person; I am not interested in seeing myself as a woman or a man,” Baena wrote on X, formerly Twitter, the same month.
“This is an identity; it is mine and for me, for no one else.”
Arsenal’s goalkeeper situation has come under scrutiny from Aaron Ramsdale’s father, who has voiced concerns about Mikel Arteta’s decision-making, suggesting that the Arsenal manager has made mistakes.
Initially, it seemed that the Gunners had solidified their long-term No. 1 choice by entrusting England international Ramsdale with the starting duties.
However, Arteta brought in David Raya from Brentford over the summer, and the Spaniard swiftly assumed the position as the first-choice goalkeeper.
Ramsdale has admitted to “suffering and hurting” after surrendering his spot, with his father telling The Highbury Squad that a sense of joy has been lost in the game for a usually confident and enigmatic character.
Nick Ramsdale has said: “Aaron’s lost that smile to when he was holding onto that ball at this moment in time. And it is difficult. It really is difficult to see him there and we all keep saying you need to keep smiling.”
Ramsdale senior went on to say of how Arsenal kept transfer business close to their chest, before then taking the decision to hand starting duties to Raya: “When I spoke to Mr Arteta on the phone before he signed Aaron, he said he wanted Aaron. But now, you know, David Raya’s back on the market and he’s had David Raya. Aaron is going to be the cup goalkeeper, and David Raya is going to be the main man unless something happens—an injury or a sending-off.
“Aaron’s got to live with that and he is living with that even though he’s not been told it. By anybody. You’ve got to give the guy a chance for God’s sake. Even though it’s been done, in my eyes, it’s been wrong and we can talk about that but it’s the decision. Really and truly, we’ve got to get behind David Raya. He’s part of the family now. Whether it’s only until May or June of next year, it won’t be; it’ll be longer in my eyes, but that’s by the by.”
Speculation has arisen about Aaron Ramsdale considering a move elsewhere, possibly in January or by the end of the season. The 25-year-old goalkeeper is contemplating his own future, aiming to secure regular playing time at the club level and enhance his prospects for further recognition with England as Euro 2024 approaches.
Manchester City star Mateo Kovacic seems to maintain a special connection with Chelsea, as evidenced by his celebration of a goal from Cole Palmer.
The Croatian midfielder concluded a five-year tenure at Stamford Bridge in the summer, making the move from west London to the north-west of England.
Kovacic experienced significant success in a distinct shade of blue, achieving a Champions League victory and accumulating over 200 appearances during his time at Chelsea.
Despite Mateo Kovacic’s commitment to Manchester City and his role in helping defend their Premier League title, a surprising moment occurred during his return to the Bridge on Sunday.
In a thrilling 4-4 draw where City dropped two points against Chelsea, Kovacic, standing on the edge of the box, gave a fist bump as Cole Palmer converted a stoppage-time penalty, crashing the ball into the top corner.
While it’s challenging to decipher Kovacic’s thoughts in that moment without hearing from him directly, it’s possible he was psyching himself up for the remaining time on the clock.
Chelsea fans, however, interpret his actions as a sign that he will always hold a special connection with the club.

A 29-year-old pharmacist has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the Volta River Authority Hospital in Aboadze, Western Region, after allegedly being injected with the wrong drugs.
The pharmacist, seeking GH12 million in damages, claims to have suffered mental and physical incapacitation due to the administration of IM Atracurium 50mg instead of Antigen D.
However, there are conflicting reports, with some suggesting that the pharmacist rejected the prescribed medicine as it was deemed expensive and opted for drugs from her workplace, which were administered by a nurse without proper verification.
“VRA hospital prescribed a drug she needed. She said theirs was too expensive, so she’ll get it from the hospital she works at instead. She got someone to bring the drug from her hospital.
“The wrong drug was sent to her. She didn’t check. She kept the drug in her hospital fridge and told no doctor or nurse on duty about it.
“In the evening, after the shift change, a VRA nurse who attends the same church as her was on duty. She told the nurse to take the drug from the fridge and inject her with it. The nurse didn’t check the drug either. Possibly presumed she was a pharmacist and knew what she needed.
“Sometime after the injection, she began to have seizures. She ended up in her current state. The hospital took care of her bills & sacked the nurse. She later returned to sue the hospital for using the wrong drug she brought to them,” the second account said.
Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has urged the government to prioritise enhancing the conditions of service for its members, aligning them with the demands of their profession.
The Association has specifically called for measures to guarantee the well-being and security of its members, both during and after their active service.
During the 65th General Meeting of the Association on Monday, Dr. Frank Serebour, the President of GMA, stressed the importance of shielding members from workplace hazards and ensuring compensation for such incidents.
“Our pensions must be secured after we have sacrificed our bodies, minds, and souls in our service. We require adequate logistics and an enabling environment to maintain our mental and physical well-being so that we can effectively care for the population.
“Retirement on a full salary is not an unreasonable demand. The vehicle importation tax waiver for health workers should be reinstated immediately.”
“We should not be made to pay the ultimate price of losing our lives and homes in our quest to care for the vulnerable. Someone must care for the health worker. Our reward is not in heaven but here on planet Earth. What we are asking for is not an impossibility. We appreciate some urgency from the FWSC,” he stated.
Dr. Serebour emphasised that any delays in improving working conditions for doctors would not be acceptable.
He further underscored that the association would appreciate the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission expeditiously resolving the matter by advocating for a salary increase, given that it has been overdue.
“Any delays will not be tolerated, and we will demand the full implementation of any agreed-upon terms to be effective in January 2024. Even as we negotiate, the existing conditions of service are still in force; hence, the implementation of any aspect of the document that becomes due will be demanded by the GMA, as was done for the non-basic allowance,” Dr Serebour added.
The Deputy Minister for Finance, Abena Osei Asare, acknowledged that efforts are underway to address the association’s demands.
“I want to assure you that we have made some progress and very soon the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission will be calling a meeting to kick-start the operationalization of your new conditions of service,” she stated.
Russian state media briefly reported and then retracted information about the withdrawal of forces from positions on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River.
The reports, quoting Russia’s defense ministry, stated that troops were being moved to more favorable positions on the Russian-occupied eastern side.
The retraction was attributed to a “false report” by Ukraine, while Ukraine claimed it was Russian disinformation. The incident occurred almost a year after Russian forces withdrew from the right bank, near Kherson.
The now-retracted reports suggested troop repositioning to free up forces for offensive operations in other areas. The Kremlin declined to comment, deferring to the military.
Ukrainian forces have increased raids across the Dnipro as part of their counter-offensive strategy.
Still, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a US-based think tank, reported last week that Russian efforts to repel Ukrainian forces from the east bank had “not prevented Ukrainian forces from transferring additional personnel and materiel to positions on the east bank” of the river.
In a separate incident, Ukrainian officials reported that three civilians were killed in Russian attacks on Kherson on Monday.
Ukrainian military intelligence claimed responsibility for an earlier explosion in the occupied city of Melitopol on Saturday, which killed at least three Russian officers, stating it was “an act of revenge” carried out by local resistance forces.
Ukrainian-affiliated fighters have asserted responsibility for killing Russian officials and local collaborators using car bombs and explosions.
Last week, Mikhail Filiponenko, a former head of a separatist militia, was killed in the occupied city of Luhansk in an attack claimed by Ukraine.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has rejected the use of hotels for the post-budget workshop this year, citing the current financial challenges facing the country.
This comes after Deputy Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin announced on Friday, November 10, that the workshop would take place at Rock City Hotel, owned by Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong.
Presenting the business statement for the week, Afenyo-Markin stated, “The usual post-budget workshop would be organised to allow experts to elucidate further on the underpinnings of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government to Hon. Members.
The workshop is expected to be held from Friday, 17 to Sunday, 19th November 2023 at the Rock City Hotel, Kwahu Nkwatia in the Eastern Region.”
Nevertheless, on Monday, November 13, the Speaker of Parliament voiced reservations about the situation, highlighting public opposition to placing an extra financial burden on the state coffers.
He clarified that the decision to use Rock City as the venue for the post-budget review was not made by the House.
Additionally, he mentioned that while both Volta Serene and Rock City had submitted their invoices, Rock City’s cost was considerably high, leading him to reject it.
“I believe that democracy has finally decided and the people have prevailed on their representatives to decide that this year’s post-budget workshop be held here in parliament.
“Reporting on Saturday early in the morning, we will use the floor of the house as the main conference,” he said.
Ghanaian defender Jerome Opoku faced racist abuse following an accidental clash with Besiktas player Bahtiyar Zaynutdinov during a Turkish Super Lig match between Istanbul Basaksehir and Besiktas.
In a battle for possession, Zaynutdinov attempted to intercept Opoku from behind, resulting in an unintentional elbow from Opoku.
The referee’s decision to penalise Zaynutdinov instead of Opoku sparked anger among Besiktas fans, leading to racist chants and comments targeting the Ghanaian defender.
Compounding the situation, Zaynutdinov sustained significant injuries to his eye and nose, forcing him to exit the game.
The incident intensified on-field tensions and escalated fan dissatisfaction.
Despite the controversy,Besiktassecured a 1-0 victory, with Opoku’s fellow countryman, Daniel Amartey, delivering an outstanding performance for the Eagles throughout the match.

Sarri characterised Mourinho as a ‘pain in the butt,’ expressing his displeasure with the Portuguese manager’s communication style in press conferences.
Despite this, Sarri acknowledged his admiration for Mourinho as a person.
The pre-match war of words between the two managers included Mourinho asserting that Sarri’s achievements were comparatively limited in contrast to his own distinguished career.
Speaking to reporters, the Italian said, “We had already crossed paths before the game. I told him, ‘You are a right pain in the butt’.
He replied, ‘For that matter so are you!’. I don’t like dealing with Mourinho the media character, but Mourinho the person is great.”
Serie A returns to action after the international break on November 25, with Lazio taking on Salernitana in the opening match of gameweek 13.
During a podcast featuring Osimhen as a guest, Mikel offered to act as the striker’s agent to orchestrate a significant transfer to Stamford Bridge in the upcoming summer.
Mikel, a former Nigeria international, also advised Osimhen against considering a move to the Saudi Pro League at this point in his career.
Discussing a potential move to the Premier League, Osimhen shared that, as a child, he owned jerseys from only two clubs—Chelsea and Manchester United.
He emphasised his admiration for another Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, during his formative years.
Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Mikel told Osimhen, “It’s not the time to go to Saudi Arabia. Next season, I know you’re going to come to Chelsea. I’m going to be the agent to broker that deal. You’re 100% coming to Chelsea!”
In response, the Serie A Golden Boot winner simply laughed.
Later in the episode, Osimhen revealed: “I had two jersey’s from my brother when I was a kid—Chelsea and Manchester United. When I was playing grassroots, [I was compared to Didier Drogba]. We used to use my brother’s phone [to watch Drogba]. I would then go on the pitch and try to [emulate] at his game [and learn]. I still watch Drogba’s comps now.”
Osimhen, currently in the process of recovering from an injury sustained in the previous international break, has not been included in the Nigeria squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifying game.
Amidst uncertainty surrounding his future at Napoli, it appears that a potential summer transfer to the Premier League is a consideration on his part.
Saudi Pro League clubs are expressing interest in signing Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho and Tottenham’s Richarlison in the upcoming January transfer window.
Sancho, who has been sidelined from the first-team squad following a public fallout with United manager Erik ten Hag, has not featured for the club since the Nottingham Forest clash in August.
The Saudi Pro League is reportedly working on securing finances to submit substantial offers for both Sancho and Richarlison.
The Brazilian striker has struggled for form since joining Tottenham last summer, scoring just two goals in 11 matches across all competitions in the current campaign.
The report also highlights Sancho’s restricted access to Manchester United’s senior facilities, necessitating that he use the academy building and adhere to safeguarding directives.
Previous interest from Al-Ettifaq and Al-Ittihad adds intrigue to the possibility of the Pro League securing the services of both players in January.
Herbert Hainer has communicated to Real Madrid that his club has no intention of selling Alphonso Davies, a player Los Blancos are eager to acquire next summer.
Real Madrid’s pursuit of Davies has intensified in recent months, and there are reports suggesting they are contemplating meeting Bayern’s €50 million (£43m/$54m) asking price to secure the left-back for Santiago Bernabeu.
However, Bayern Munich is hesitant to part ways with one of their key players, as Davies holds a crucial role within the team.
Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, is actively seeking reinforcements for the left-back position due to Ferland Mendy’s fitness concerns and Fran Garcia’s lack of convincing performances.
Alphonso Davies has emerged as a primary target, especially since the player’s agent has indicated his openness to a move away from Germany before his contract expires in 2025.
Davies has played a pivotal role for Bayern Munich this season, featuring in 10 of the 11 Bundesliga games and contributing three assists under the management of Thomas Tuchel.
Real Madrid is also eyeing another full-back for the upcoming summer, with reported interest in Chelsea captain Reece James as a potential long-term successor to Dani Carvajal.
While Davies is contracted until 2025, the possibility of a move before then cannot be entirely ruled out. Regardless, he appears set to maintain a regular role in Thomas Tuchel’s plans for Bayern Munich.
After Manchester City’s 4-4 draw against Chelsea, Pep Guardiola asserted that he sees Chelsea as a stronger team than Arsenal.
The clash between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday was a Premier League spectacle, concluding with Cole Palmer’s last-minute penalty securing a 4-4 draw for the hosts against the reigning champions.
Despite falling short of securing all three points, Guardiola expressed no regrets and praised Mauricio Pochettino’s team for their performance.
“In his evaluation, he emphasized that Chelsea surpasses Arsenal in terms of strength.
Despite currently holding the 10th position in the league standings, Pochettino’s team has displayed resilience by remaining unbeaten against three of the top four teams.
Their matches resulted in a 2-2 draw against Arsenal, an exhilarating 4-4 draw against Manchester City, and a convincing 4-1 victory over Tottenham.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Guardiola said, “They are a really good team so there’s no doubt.
Liverpool couldn’t win. They were much, much better than Arsenal and in the end, Arsenal drew. So, you know, it’s Chelsea; they won’t go away.
“I always have to think about what we can do to get better. It’s not going to happen that we come here and win 7-0. They are trying to rebuild. We have no complaints.
“We go into [the break] at the top of the league and I didn’t expect that after the Arsenal defeat. The next games are really tough.”
The Premier League is set to pause during the international break and is scheduled to resume action on November 25, kicking off with a match between Manchester City and Liverpool.
General Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi, has advised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to construct and oversee the management of their own stadiums.
He emphasized that the revenue generated from Ghana’s involvement in the World Cup could serve as a funding source for such a project.
In an interview with Graphic Sports, he expressed that it is high time for the GFA to take the initiative in owning and operating their stadiums.
“I think it’s high time the GFA built their own stadium,” Prof. Twumasi told Graphic Sports.
“For example, the World Cup money that we get should be used for some of these things, — building a stadium. We can use the World Cup money to design a stadium purposely for football matters and the federation (GFA) will handle that.”
He further advised Ghana Premier League clubs to follow suit and own their venues.
On the clubs, he added, “Not only the GFA, but all the clubs playing in the Premiership must own stadiums or venues good enough to host a match.”
He suggested that clubs that lack funds should apply for loans from banks.
“If I have my way, every club that plays in the Premier League must demonstrate that they have their own stadium. If they don’t have the money, they can team up with the banks for loans to be deducted from their gate proceeds for a number of years.”
The National Sports Authority (NSA) has faced criticism for its inadequate management of national stadiums.
Only the Baba Yara Stadium has received approval from CAF as a standard venue for hosting international matches, out of the four national stadiums.
The Baba Yara Stadium is slated to be the venue for Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar on Friday, November 17, 2023.

The hymns selected for the occasion included the traditional “Abide With Me,” often sung before the FA Cup final.
Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino praised the “world’s best league” after the exhilarating conclusion of Chelsea’s remarkable 4-4 draw against Manchester City on Sunday.
The match at Stamford Bridge exemplified why the Premier League captivates millions globally, featuring both teams exchanging leads in a thrilling contest.
With numerous twists and turns, City surrendered the lead three times, and Chelsea, in turn, squandered an advantage.
The climax was particularly dramatic as Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, facing his former club, converted a last-minute penalty, adding the ultimate twist to the encounter.
Despite missing an opportunity to extend their lead at the top, Guardiola expressed satisfaction with the classic match. By securing a point, City managed to establish a one-point lead over second-placed Liverpool in the Premier League standings.
“Did you have fun? It was a good advertisement and an entertaining game for the Premier League,” the City boss said.
“It was a tight game. Right now, I think it was a fair resuit. Both teams played to win.
“We didn’t make perfect decisions after our goal of 4-3. It is the first time for me at Stamford Bridge in many years we created that many chances, but they created as well.”
AC Milan has inaugurated its headquarters in Dubai, aiming to strengthen its connections with key partners in the Middle East and explore commercial opportunities in the region, the Italian soccer club announced on Monday.
The Gulf region is gaining increasing prominence in global football, with oil-rich nations like the UAE and Qatar acquiring top-tier clubs such as PSG in France and Manchester City in Britain.
Notably, star players like Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo are now part of teams in Saudi Arabia, and Qatar successfully hosted the men’s World Cup last year.
AC Milan had disclosed plans last year to establish an office in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), citing a fanbase of 2.5 million in the Middle East.
The UAE is significant for AC Milan as it is home to the club’s primary partner, Emirates Airlines, the flagship carrier of Dubai, which has been a sponsor since 2007.
The airline’s logo has adorned the shirts worn by AC Milan players since 2010.
This move marks another stride in the club’s evolution under the ownership of U.S. investment firm RedBird Capital Partners, which acquired the seven-time European Cup champions in a 1.2 billion euro ($1.28 billion) deal in 2022.

Manchester United, grappling with numerous injuries, were already missing eight players for the game mentioned.
Hojlund had notably scored two goals in United’s 4-3 loss to Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday.
As of now, Erik ten Hag’s team is in the sixth position in the Premier League standings, facing their worst start to a season since 1962.

Inter Miami coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino reveals that Lionel Messi hasacknowledged the need to reduce his playing time next year to manage the demanding schedule for both club and country.
Asked how you convinced the 36-year-old Argentina World Cup winner to play less, Martino said, “It seems to me that it is something that he has already incorporated; he has accepted.
“Because not only do we have our competitions, but there is also a Copa America in the middle of the year, and it is another important competition that is added.
“This topic has already been discussed with him (Messi) and Sergio Busquets; their desire is always to be there, to compete and play on all fronts, but they know that undoubtedly next year they will not be able to be in every game.
“There have been games this year where Leo was on the bench and he came on for a few minutes. There will be games where they will have to rest because it’s going to be impossible to be in every game.”
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández acknowledges that the team’s performance has been impacted by the negativity surrounding them.
This acknowledgement comes after Barcelona rallied from a goal down to secure a 2-1 victory against Alavés on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium.
Following a defeat to Real Madrid, a close win over Real Sociedad, and a midweek loss to Shakhtar Donetsk, Barcelona has faced intense criticism in the media.
Xavi notes that the younger players, in particular, have been adversely affected by this criticism.
“Without doubt, what the media say affects how the team plays,” he said. “The [media] create situations and scenarios that, for me, are not real. And it affects, without any doubt, the team.
“It happened to me as a player and it’s happening to my players. There is negativity, which is not good or positive at all.
“Above all, it affects the youngest players. You see [Iñigo] Martínez, Lewandowski, [João] Cancelo and Gundogan; it does not affect them. But we have a lot of youngsters and we have to protect them and give them confidence.
“[The performances] are our fault, of course, but theyoungsters feel a tension thata month ago didn’t exist. It is a difficult situation that we have to manage, but it’s hard, especially after conceding an early goal.”
In a groundbreaking transfer, Bayern Munich acquired striker Harry Kane, and his exceptional goal-scoring form this season has surpassed expectations, quickly establishing him as a beloved figure among the fans.
The prolific striker made the move from Tottenham to Bayern in August for a Bundesliga-record €100 million ($106 million) fee.
This significant transfer was prompted by Bayern’s need to secure a proven goal-scorer following the departure of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last year.
Since his arrival, Kane, England’s all-time leading goal scorer and the second-highest scorer in Premier League history, has made an immediate impact.
He has impressively netted 21 goals in 15 matches across the Bundesliga and the Champions League for Bayern.
Notably, in their 4-2 triumph over Heidenheim on Saturday, Kane’s two goals elevated his league tally to 17 from 11 games, establishing a new league record for the most goals at this stage, surpassing Lewandowski’s previous mark of 16.
“It is impressive,” beamedBayern sports director Christoph Freund after Saturday’s double.
“He is playing away from the U.K. for the first time and then he scores like that. The team also plays him into position. He is a phenomenon.”
Real Betis coach Mauricio Pellegrini has dismissed rumours suggesting that his club is set to acquire the services of free agent David de Gea.
In Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Sevilla, third-choice goalkeeper Fran Vieites took on the goalkeeping responsibilities, as regular keepers Rui Silva and Claudio Bravo were sidelined due to injuries.
Despite speculation reported by Sport indicating an advanced negotiation with the 33-year-old De Gea, who has been without a club since his contract with Manchester United concluded in June, Pellegrini has downplayed any imminent signing.
But, asked about the possibility the club could sign De Gea or another goalkeeper, Pellegrini said, “If you ask me, I would say I don’t think so.
“Vieites is a goalkeeper who has many abilities; he didn’t have the slightest responsibility for the goal; he was calm and for me, it was a verygood performanceof his given how difficult it is to practically debut in professional football with everything that the outside environment entails.”
Fluminense midfielder Andre, aged 22, has stated that he is not informed about any interest from Manchester United.
Andre, who is attracting attention from various Premier League clubs, had a previous offer from Liverpool rejected in the last transfer window.
Recent reports from England suggest that Manchester United is actively contemplating Andre as a potential successor to Casemiro in the future.
“I didn’t know about it (the Manchester United interest),” Andre said. “And I also don’t think anything arrived. We’re in November; there’s the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship; there’s the Club World Cup, but I’m very happy.
Casemiro is someone who has had a huge career. I try to talk to him a lot when I’m with the national team. He’s a person who gives me a lot of advice; he’s a great leader and what’s left for me is to continue playing well. I’m happy to attract these interests.”
Andre, 22, says his dream is to play in Europe one day.
“At the end of the season, we’ll see what will happen,” the Brazil international said. “Every young player aspires to play in Europe one day. This is not just my dream, but that of the vast majority. I have a contract withFluminense; proposals should arrive and then it’s time to talk to the club and decide what’s best for everyone.”
Doctors at the Kavaja Hospital in Albania have revealed that Ghanaian footballer Raphael Dwamena passed away before the ambulance transporting him reached the hospital.
Raphael Dwamena tragically lost his life on Saturday, November 11, 2023, during a match in the Albanian Super League between Egnatia and Partizani Tirana.
The distressing incident occurred in the 24th minute of the game when Dwamena collapsed on the pitch. The sudden and unattended fall was captured on video.
Despite immediate efforts from teammates and medical professionals, the 28-year-old striker could not be revived and succumbed to the situation.
Addressing the unfortunate incident, Dr. Lala from Kavaja Hospital explained that Dwamena was already deceased upon his arrival at the hospital.
“The patient came to Kavaja Hospital in the ‘black code,’ indicating exitus (the medical term for death), without vital parameters, without tension, without breathing, without cardiac activity. There was no activity in the EKG,” detailed Dr. Lala.
Raphael Dwamena made his debut for Ghana at the international level in 2017, scoring two goals in nine matches.
The late Ghanaian player had previously played for clubs like Red Bull Salzburg, Levante, and Real Zaragoza, leaving a notable mark in his football career.
