David de Gea, the out-of-contract goalkeeper of Manchester United, has been linked with apotential move to Al Nassr, where he could reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Spanish goalkeeper, who is currently a free agent after his contract expired at the end of June, has yet to agree on a contract extension with United, as reported by Goal.
De Gea’s future with the Red Devils remains uncertain, especially as Manchester United is rumored to be actively searching for a formidable replacement.
Andre Onana, the Inter Milan goalkeeper, is said to be at the top of United’s wishlist, with reports suggesting that the club is pursuing a deal for the Cameroonian shot-stopper.
Which way for David de Gea?
Apparently, De Gea is not expected to fall short of transfer options in the event Man United decide to part ways with him.
The Sun reports the Spanish keeper is a transfer target for Saudi giants Al Nassr in a transfer deal that could see him reunite with Ronaldo.
According to the publication, the former Atletico Madrid ace could pocket as much as £250,000-a-week if he seals the move.
De Gea has spent more than a decade at Old Trafford, having joined United in 2011 under the then-manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Spaniard has gone on to make over 500 appearances for the club and was part of the team that won the last Premier League title during the 2012/13 season.
The forward has been consistently linked with a possible transfer this summer as Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta aims to generate funds for new signings.
According to The Mirror, Balogun is highly sought after and considered one of the most promising young strikers in Europe.
The 21-year-old, who came through the ranks of Arsenal’s academy, had a successful loan spell at Ligue 1 club Reims last season, impressively scoring 21 goals.
His exceptional goal-scoring record has attracted interest from several European clubs.
Although Arsenal recognizes Balogun’s immense talent, he is unlikely to be guaranteed regular playing time at the Emirates in the upcoming season.
As a result, Arsenal has reportedly set a price tag of £35 million for the young forward, and numerous clubs are already showing interest in acquiring his services.
Bolagun’s cryptic tweet
The young forward has further fuelled speculation on his imminent exit by posting a cryptic tweet.
The Arsenal ace, who made it public that he was tweeting from Enfield, posted an egg-timer emoji with the caption:
“It is time!”
The tweet sparked a plethora of panicked reactions from fans, who wondered if this meant the forward had found his new club.
Meanwhile, AC Milan are believed to be the leading contenders for the services of the USA international.
Former captain of theBlack Stars, Stephen Appiah, has disclosed that the late Sam Arday, coach of Ghana’s U-17 national team that won the 1995 U-17 World Cup in Ecuador, prophesied that he would become one of the best players in Ghana.
Appiah revealed this during an interview on JoySports Prime Take with Muftawu Nabila Abdulai.
Despite playing only one match during the entire tournament, Appiah stated that Arday had the foresight to predict his future success in football.
“In Ecuador [during the U-17 World Cup], I had the chance to play one game. I’m not going to say only [one game] because I have to be true to myself that the players who were there were better, they had the experience; players like Joe Ansah, Baba Sulley, David Amoako, Abu Iddrisu, Emmanuel Bentil, Awudu Issaka and the rest, I mean they were ahead of me,” he noted.
“So when we played our first and second games, we won the two games so by the third game we had qualified already so I was given the opportunity to play the last game. I played so well, Charles Allortey scored the only goal, we beat them 1-0.
“I didn’t get the opportunity to play again, we won the trophy we came back, and when we came back, we took the trophy on a tour.
When we got to the Accra sports stadium, there were a lot of fans to welcome us.
“When Sam Arday was giving his speech, he said that he was thanking the fans and the players and everybody who supported them to win, but one thing [he added was that] there’s a young player in our team who didn’t get the chance to play but one day he will be one of the best in this country and it happened,” he stated.
He added that; “he [Arday] knew the quality I had. Sam Arday was a great man.
He was one of those coaches who could look at a player and predict that he will be good in the future and most of the time, it happens.”
Stephen Appiah would go on to lead the Black Stars to its maiden appearance in the World Cup in 2006, before repeating the feat in 2010 where Ghana reached the quarterfinal of the tournament when it was staged in Africa for the first time.
The National Peace Council (NPC) delegation, headed by His Eminence Numo Blafo Akotia Omaetu III, a governing board member, recently convened a meeting with the Chiefs and Elders of the Somey Traditional Area.
The purpose of the meeting, chaired by Torgbi Adamah III, the Paramount Chief of the Somey Traditional Area, was to discuss the controversy surrounding the remarks made byArchbishop Charles Agyinasare, the founder and general overseer of Perez Chapel International.
The aim of the meeting was to find the most suitable approach to address the issue in order to promote peace and unity.
The Archbishop during a summit at the Perez auditorium in Accra, described Nogokpo as the “demonic headquarters of the Volta Region.”
His comments infuriated the people of Nogokpo and the larger Volta region, some of whom took to various social media platforms to criticize the respected clergyman.
The chiefs and elders of the town issued a two-week ultimatum to the Archbishop to withdraw his comments and render an apology to the people.
The ultimatum has long elapsed.
Torgbi Adamah told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the meeting that both the Peace Council and the Somey Traditional Council had agreed to resolve the issue amicably.
“We have communicated our position to the Peace Council, and have tasked the council to communicate that position to the Archbishop.
The Somey Traditional Council is giving the Archbishop a week’s ultimatum to withdraw the controversial comment and render an unqualified apology to the people of Nogokpo, the Somey Traditional Area and the entire Volta region.
Torgbi Adamah said the Traditional Council had asked its lawyers to officially write to the Archbishop of the council’s decision and position.
He clarified that the one-week ultimatum would start from the day the Archbishop officially received the letter from the traditional council’s lawyers.
He said should the Archbishop fail to heed the traditional council’s demand for an apology, “the Somey Traditional Council would advise itself accordingly.”
The Paramount Chief noted that there had always been a negative perception about the people of the Volta region.
“This should not have been an issue, but the fact that the people of the region have over the years been perceived as bad people, affecting our marriages to other tribes and job opportunities, the Archbishop should not have uttered those comments in the first place.
He is a respected and experienced man of God who should be uniting people and not passing divisive comments.
He must render an apology to bring this matter to rest – we are not happy with this at all.” Torgbi Adamah said.
Numo Blafo Akotia Omaetu III, showed appreciation to the Somey Traditional Council for the warm reception and understanding.
He assured of the Peace Council’s commitment to ensuring that the issue was resolved amicably in the interest of harmony and peaceful coexistence.
Some members of the Volta regional Peace Council, including its Chairman, Rev. Seth Kwesi Mawutor, were present at the meeting.
Former Ghana international, Derek Boateng has descended on theGhana Football Association (GFA) for their poor handling of the sport in the country.
His comments come following Black Meteors’ early elimination at the ongoing U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Ghana played out a 1-1 stalemate against Guinea on Friday night, a result which meant they finished third in Group A with four points, exiting the competition on the goal difference rule.
Ibrahim Tanko and his charges opened their campaign a win hard-fought win against Congo before a humiliating defeat against Morocco.
They add to the recent failures of the various national teams under the guidance of the Kurt Okraku-led GFA administration.
“It’s about time we start being fair and tough in our decision. We haven’t done enough to be at the Olympic Games,” the former Black Stars midfielder told Joy FM.
“The GFA think they have answers to everything. Our youth football is collapsing and it’s about time we stop thinking about Black Stars.”
The Right to Dream Academy scout also revealed the GFA members influence selection at various national team levels because they own players.
“The FA owns a lot of players in the national teams and that’s why we don’t perform,” he continued.
“When CK [Akonnor] was there, the FA were telling him the kind of players he should call and when things didn’t go well they kicked him out.
“For me, I think the GFA don’t know what they are doing. I don’t think the GFA school will help Ghana football.”
Boateng played through the ranks at the national team before advancing to feature for the senior team on several occasions.
There are reports that Thomas Partey has informed Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta about his intention to leave the club, footballtransfers.com has reported.
The Ghanaian midfielder has expressed his unwillingness to play a secondary role in the upcoming season and has asked for assistance from Arsenal to secure a transfer to another club.
Although Arteta would prefer to keep Partey, he has reluctantly agreed to facilitate the transfer as long as a reasonable price can be obtained for the player’s transfer fee.
Initial discussions have taken place with clubs in Saudi Arabia and Juventus, but as of now, no concrete offers have materialized.
Consequently, Arsenal is now intensifying negotiations with Southampton regarding a potential move for Romeo Lavia.
Furthermore, Arsenal will hold further discussions withThomas Partey to clarify his future aspirations and ascertain the best course of action for all parties involved.
He has been with Arsenal since 2020 and was key for them last season.
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has faced criticism from Parliament regarding the non-release of funds to the Ministry of Works and Housing for essential drainage projects aimed at mitigating the recurring flooding in Accra and other parts of the country.
Following concerns raised by Kwame Agbodza, the First Deputy Minority Whip, about the devastating effects of flooding in the country, Speaker of Parliament summoned Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye, and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to provide an update on measures being taken to address the issue.
Members of Parliament from both sides expressed their dissatisfaction, highlighting the government’s failure to allocate funds to the Ministry since 2020, which has severely hindered its operational capacity.
During the parliamentary discussion on Thursday, June 29, 2023, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing, appealed to the government to release the necessary funds to the Ministry.
He emphasized that without adequate funding, critical flood control projects cannot be undertaken.
He also emphasized the need for citizens to exhibit good behavior and refrain from indiscipline acts such as building in waterways, as these actions exacerbate the flooding problem.
Mpraeso MP, Davis Opoku Ansah drew attention to the Ghana Hydrological Authority, which was established last year, but has not received the necessary funds to efficiently carry out its mandate.
He argued that establishing state institutions without providing adequate funding to tackle flooding issues renders them ineffective.
Ibrahim Ahmed, the MP for Banda and First Deputy Minority Whip, appealed to the Finance Minister to prioritize drainage construction in the mid-year budget review, emphasizing its importance.
In response, Minister for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye defended the government’s commitment to addressing flooding.
He stated that the government had allocated more funds to combat the problem and enhance community resilience than any other administration.
Asenso-Boakye highlighted the National Flood Control Programmes (NFCP), which has received a significant investment of ¢450 million, representing the largest financial commitment by any government in the country’s history to tackle flooding challenges.
The Minister provided an update on the progress made, stating that 96% of desilting projects had been completed, with construction of 202 drainage channels already underway. The remaining 118 drainage projects were at various stages of completion.
While the government’s efforts seek to mitigate flooding impact and improve community resilience, MPs remain concerned about the lack of timely funding for the Ministry of Works and Housing and other relevant institutions.
They urged the government to promptly address this issue in order to effectively tackle the persistent problem of flooding and prevent potential disasters in the country.
Ashanti Regional director of communications for the NDC, Abass Nurudeen has accused the ruling NPP of engaging in vote-buying and extravagant expenditures during the recent by-election in the Assin North constituency.
During an interview with Akoma FM on July 1, 2023, he expressed astonishment at the country’s economic challenges and criticized the NPP for their lavish spending during the election.
Nurudeen emphasized the stark contrast between the nation’s appeal for assistance from theInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) and the implementation of measures like domestic debt restructuring, which have affected pensioners’ bonds, and the government’s apparent abundance of resources for distribution in Assin North.
“A country that we said we don’t have money, so we are going to the IMF, so we are taking pensioners’ bonds, they were sharing money in Assin North,” Nurudeen exclaimed
According to him, the NPP employed various tactics to sway voters, including buying locally-made alcoholic drinks known as ‘akpeteshie’ to distribute among the electorate.
He stated that the party went as far as purchasing alcoholic beverages for drunkards to consume in exchange for votes.
“It wasn’t only two million alone, Aduana Ba, cutlasses, roofing sheets, cement bags, even ‘akpeteshie’ they were sharing for a vote, I swear to God I am a Muslim and I’m saying this, if what I am saying is a lie, God should ask me.
“When they enter a beer bar, then they will buy all the akpeteshie for the drunkards to drink, I have never seen such a thing in my life, I have videos, if they like they should deny and I will bring it out.”
He went on to highlight what he called NPP’s attempt to replicate a strategy they used in the Kumawu by-election, where they allegedly succeeded in winning over the locals through similar means.
“They thought how they were able to buy the minds of Kumawu people, they were going to use the same strategy to buy the minds of Assin North constituents.
James Gyakye Quayson has been sworn in as Member of Parliament for the Assin North constituency after the Electoral Commission declared him a winner in the election held on June 27, 2023, following the conclusion of the by-election.
According to the Electoral Commission’s announcement, James Gyakye Quayson garnered a total of 17,245 votes, representing 57.56% of the total votes cast.
His closest contender, Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 12,630 votes, accounting for 42.15% of the votes. Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party Ghana (LPG) secured 87 votes, which represented 0.29% of the overall tally.
The by-election in Assin North was held to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant following a legal battle that questioned Quayson’s eligibility to hold office due to dual citizenship concerns.
Vice President of IMANI Africa, Bright Simons, has expressed his observation that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is experiencing the loss of key members, particularly at the grassroots level, in some of its core areas.
According to Simons, this decline in core members can be attributed to internal issues within the party’s systems.
Simons highlighted the recent Assin North by-election as an example, where he believes the NPP experienced a decrease in support compared to previous elections. He also mentioned the Kumawu by-election that took place the previous month, noting that a significant number of NPP voters were lost from what is traditionally considered the NPP’s stronghold, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) maintained its support base.
Mr. Simons further observed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) seems to have an advantage in terms of its usual support base in the Assin North constituency.
This advantage stems from the fact that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has experienced a decline in its traditional voting numbers in this particular constituency, which is considered a swing constituency.
Since 1996, the NPP has consistently garnered around 15,000 to 16,000 votes in the Assin North constituency, according to Mr. Simons.
“The core base [for NDC] is turning out and therefore they are sustained in their core base. The NPP on the order hand appears to be losing their core base in both elections.”
Mr Simons also linked the seeming depletion of the strong core of the NPP to “massive disgruntlement in their grassroots and to some extent the economic factors that are prevailing in the country.”
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made controversial statements during a campaign rally for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the Assin North by-election on June 27.
In his remarks, the president alleged that a parliamentary aspirant, who was facing criminal charges, would be imprisoned and urged voters to reject him.
Legal expert Martin Kpebu, while speaking on TV3 on July 1, criticized the president’s comments, describing them as desperate and propagandist.
Kpebu emphasized that the president should not have involved himself in such claims under any circumstances.
“Akufo-Addo had no business going into the Gyakye Quayson trial.
It shows a man who was desperate and was clutching at straw… and it is good the good people of Assin North showed him that his propagandist style, his desperate move amounts to nothing.
“How can the president embarrass himself like that? As a lawyer as everybody has said it, in the past the president acquitted himself as an excellent lawyer but in the last two decades he has thrown everything away on the political platform,” Kpebu jabbed.
He accused Akufo-Addo of sacrificing his hard-earned reputation as a lawyer with the desire to come into and stay in office.
“Akufo-Addo has been shredding the reputation he has built over the years… One goof to the other, one goof to the other,” he added.

Exactly 21 years have passed since Brazil secured their fifth World Cup victory in 2002, hosted by Japan and South Korea.
In the final, they emerged triumphant with a 2-0 victory over Germany, courtesy of a remarkable brace by Ronaldo.
Reflecting on that historic day, Ronaldinho, who left a lasting impact on the tournament, reminisced about the achievement.
After winning the World Cup in 1994, Brazil experienced a painful defeat in the 1998 final against France, where they were beaten 3-0.
Determined to rectify their previous disappointment, they entered the 2002 tournament with a strong desire for redemption, and they accomplished it in sensational fashion.
Drawn in a relatively straightforward group with Turkey, Costa Rica, and China, Brazil comfortably won all their group stage matches.
The doubts that surrounded the team before the tournament had vanished, and they appeared unbeatable.
Advancing to the knockout stages, they overcame Belgium with ease in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Ronaldinho’s iconic free-kick secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory for Brazil.
They then defeated Turkey 1-0 in the semifinals before sealing their triumph with a 2-0 win over Germany in the final.
Ronaldo played a pivotal role as Brazil’s talisman, scoring eight goals throughout the tournament and earning the prestigious Golden Boot award.
Ronaldinho remembers 2002 World Cup win
Ronaldinho took to Twitter to remember one of the greatest nights of their career. He scored two goals in the tournament, per Transfermarkt.
“06/30/02 day I became world champion! A special moment for all of us Brazilians…” he wrote. Many thanks to everyone in this group who gave their all to achieve this dream. We are in history!!!”
FIFA has instructed Cardiff City to make the final two payments to Nantes for the transfer of Emiliano Sala, as ruled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) last year.
Sala tragically lost his life in a plane crash shortly after Cardiff had announced his signing from Nantes in January 2019.
Cardiff City has already made the first payment and, despite their reservations, they have indicated their intention to fulfill the remaining two instalments.
Meanwhile, Cardiff City has filed a negligence claim against Nantes in French courts, alleging that the French club should be held responsible for the accident that resulted in Sala’s death.
Cardiff contends that the flight arrangements were made by Nantes’ agent.
In a recent statement, Cardiff City revealed that Nantes CEO Franck Kita and agent Bakari Sanogo were taken into police custody as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations including illegal sports agent activity, forgery, misuse of corporate assets, and money laundering.
Cardiff City claimed that their negligence claim includes evidence of direct exchanges indicating that Kita informed Sanogo about the proposed transfer fee for Sala, although it remains unclear why Kita shared this information with Sanogo.
Cardiff said: “In the circumstances, the club considers that it would have been fairer if the requirement to pay FC Nantes had been deferred until the conclusion of the French police investigations and the club’s claim against FC Nantes in the French courts.”
A week ago, the EFL announced an independent disciplinary commission had confirmed an agreed position between the league and Cardiff regarding a fee restriction.
Under the restriction, Cardiff could not pay fees in respect of transfers or loans for the January transfer window and are under the same restriction in the current summer window.
The EFL said the sanction related to Cardiff triggering the EFL’s 30-day rule when it was late in making an initial payment to Nantes for the transfer of Sala, having been ordered to do so following a lengthylegal process involving FIFA, CAS and the Swiss Federal Tribunal.
The sanction was reduced in length from three transfer windows to two following an appeal.

Midfielder Loftus-Cheek completes a transfer to AC Milan for a reported fee of approximately 21 million euros ($22.8 million) after spending his entire career at Chelsea, with loan spells at Crystal Palace and Fulham.
AC Milan announced that Loftus-Cheek has signed a four-year contract, rumored to be worth four million euros per season according to Italian media.
The 27-year-old joins his compatriot and former Chelsea Academy graduate Fikayo Tomori at San Siro.
Loftus-Cheek will fill the void left by Italian player Sandro Tonali, who is expected to join Newcastle in an 80 million euro deal as Milan undergoes a transition following the departure of Paolo Maldini.
The decision to dismiss Milan icon Maldini from his role as technical director, along with sporting director Frederic Massara, earlier this month has generated discontent among the fans.
Loftus-Cheek has earned 10 international caps but has not represented England since 2018.
He will not be the onlyChelsea youth product leaving this summer, as Mason Mount is reportedly on the verge of a lucrative transfer to Manchester United.
Javier Zanetti has expressed his support for Lionel Messi to win the 2023 Ballon d’Or award, even though Erling Haaland won a treble in his first season with Manchester City.
Both Messi and Haaland are strong contenders for the prestigious award this year, given their exceptional performances for Argentina and Manchester City, respectively.
As reported by Sportskeeda, Zanetti believes that Messi’s achievement of winning the World Cup with his country surpasses other accomplishments and puts him in the prime position to secure his eighth Ballon d’Or title.
“I think Messi deserves it because he managed to fulfil his dream of winning the World Cup as an absolute protagonist. In my opinion, he’s been the best for several years.”
The veteran led Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup title, his country’s first since Diego Armando Maradona last won the title for La Albiceleste in 1986.
Di Maria lauds Messi partnership
Meanwhile, Angel di Maria has revealed that playing alongside his compatriot, Messi, has been the best thing that has happened in his glittering career, Daily Post reports.
The ex-Real Madrid star shared the pitch with the veteran both at a club level – with Paris Saint-Germain – and at an international level, where they won the 2022 World Cup.
While Messi will officially join Inter Miami in MLS once his contract expires this month, Di Maria could join Benfica after leaving Juventus as a free agent this summer.
Messi wins Ligue 1 award
Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Argentine captain, Messi being adjudged ‘best foreign player’ in Ligue 1 for the 2022/23 campaign.
The 36-year-old notched 16 league goals and provided 16 assists for Paris Saint-Germain in the French top flight division last term.
Messi, who won the 2022 World Cup midway through the season, aided PSG in winning the title before signing with Inter Miami in MLS.
Former vice-president of theGhana Football Association (GFA),Fred Pappoe, is advocating for a significant increase in the prize money for the Ghana Premier League.
Pappoe emphasizes the importance of providing greater incentives for clubs and players involved in the league.
In his passionate appeal to the football authorities, Pappoe points out that the current financial rewards are overdue for an upgrade.
He highlights that the prize money was determined before the league commenced, and at that time, there were no objections.
However, Pappoe asserts the need to raise the prize money for future competitions.
He acknowledges that the feasibility of increasing the prize money relies on securing sponsorships and reaching agreements on how the sponsorship funds should be distributed among the clubs.
“As you can see, we all became wiser after the event. I think the figure was fixed before the league started so at the time, we were not complaining but now looking back going forward for further competitions if we can improve it,” Pappoe told Peace Fm.
He believes that the clubs should be involved in determining how the funds are shared and should collectively strive to improve their situation.
“But you know it all depends on sponsorship and the way we agree to share the sponsorship money.
And that one is the clubs the clubs are part of how we will do it we will use this for that and that,”
He concludes by stating that if the clubs feel that the current prize money is inadequate, they can always revisit the issue when the opportunity arises, and work together to secure better rewards for themselves.
“The clubs are fully in the know so if we feel it is not good, we can always go back once the opportunity comes then we do better to ourselves”.
Romelu Lukaku has rejected a massive offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal worth £45 million ($57m), as he only wants to leave Chelsea for Inter.
Lukaku spent last season on loan at Inter and wants to remain at the San Siro for the 2023-24 season but Inter have yet to table a formal transfer bid, instead hoping to sign the Belgium international on loan once more.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Al-Hilal tabled an eye-watering offer worth £45m-per-season for Lukaku, but he has opted against following team-mates Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, and N’Golo Kante to the Middle East.
The Sun reports that Chelsea are unwilling to sanction another loan, and have told Lukaku that he will either have to leave permanently or stay and play under Mauricio Pochettino next season.
It remains to be seen if Inter will be able to fund a move for Lukaku, who scored 10 Serie A goals last season, but they are in talks with Manchester United over a deal to sell goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Lukaku now faces being left in limbo if Inter are unable to fund a bid. He has seemingly made it clear, however, that he has no intention of moving to Saudi Arabia, so there is a real possibility that he could be forced into stayingat Stamford Bridge.
Lukaku will return to Chelsea next month, if a deal to sell him is not brokered before then.
Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic has reportedly agreed to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, despite previous interest from Barcelona.
Well-known football journalist Fabrizio Romano provided updates on the transfer, stating that Brozovic has given his approval to Cristiano Ronaldo’s team.
The transfer is said to involve a fee of €23 million for Inter Milan, with Brozovic set to earn a significant total package of €100 million over a three-year contract with Al-Nassr.
Barcelona had been considered as potential suitors for Brozovic, and there were rumors of the midfielder patiently waiting for an offer from the Spanish club.
However, it appears that Brozovic’s patience wore thin, forcing Barcelona to explore other options in their search for a new midfielder.
While Oriol Romeu has been mentioned as a potential alternative, more names are likely to surface in the coming days as the transfer speculation continues.
In order to bolster their midfield, Barcelona will surely have to turn their attention elsewhere if they are unable to get Marcelo Brozovic.
The decision of Brozovic to join Al-Nassr is a setback for Barcelona, who will now need to refocus and think about alternate targets in their search for reinforcements.
In the interim, Barcelona must take prompt, determined action to find a suitable successor for Brozovic.
They’ll be anxious to prevent any further setbacks and make sure they sign a top-tier player who can strengthen their team.
Al-Nassr may very well gain from Barcelona’s loss as they sign a skilled midfielder who has been an important player for Inter Milan in recent seasons.
Brozovic’s arrival will undoubtedly strengthen Al-Nassr’s midfield and enhance their chances of success in domestic and continental competitions.
The departure of Brozovic from Inter Milan represents a significant loss for the Italian club, which will now need to identify a suitable replacement.
It remains to be seen how they will fill the void left by the Croatian midfielder and whether they will reinvest the funds received from the transfer towards strengthening their squad in other areas.
Overall, Marcelo Brozovic’s decision to join Al-Nassr marks a significant twist in the transfer saga, impacting both Barcelona and Inter Milan’s plans for the upcoming season.
The midfielder’s move to Saudi Arabia highlights the global appeal of football and the increasing competitiveness of clubs in different regions.
Reports indicate that Mas’Ud Didi Dramani, the assistant manager of the Black Stars, is set to be appointed as the new head coach of the Black Galaxies.
An official announcement from the Ghana Football Association is expected to be made shortly, following Annor Walker’s resignation from the position.
The Ghana Football Association has reportedly offered Didi Dramani a two-year contract to lead the Black Galaxies (Local Black Stars).
Didi Dramani boasts an impressive coaching track record, previously serving as the head coach of the Ghana National Under 17 team.
Under his leadership, the team achieved qualification for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan and secured a commendable bronze medal.
Additionally, Didi Dramani worked as an assistant coach alongside Otto Addo during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, despite Ghana’s disappointing performance, finishing last in the group stages.
FIFA has introduced a selection of eight different armbands with social causes for teams to wear at the women’s World Cup.
This move by the global football governing body aims to prevent a repeat of the controversy that arose during the men’s World Cup last year.
During the men’s tournament, captains from several European countries, including England and Germany, had planned to wear a rainbow-colored “OneLove” armband in support of LGBTQ rights in Qatar.
However, they abandoned their plans following the threat of sporting sanctions just days before the tournament commenced.
The armband was widely seen as a symbolic protest against Qatar’s laws, as homosexuality is considered illegal in the country. To avoid a similar situation in the women’s World Cup, FIFA has provided a range of armbands addressing various social causes.
The “unite for inclusion” armband for the women’s World Cup is similar in style to the one outlawed with the words alongside a heart shape in rainbow colours.
Other causes highlighted include gender equality, ending violence against women, hunger and the rights of indigenous people.
Captains will be able to wear a different armband for each match corresponding to the cause being promoted or support one cause for the entire tournament.
“Football unites the world and our global events, such as the Fifa Women’s World Cup, have a unique power to bring people together and provide joy, excitement and passion,” said Fifa President Gianni Infantino
“After some very open talks with stakeholders, including member associations and players, we have decided to highlight a series of social causes – from inclusion to gender equality, from peace to ending hunger, from education to tackling domestic violence – during all 64 matches at the Fifa Women’s World Cup.”
The women’s World Cup, which will be hosted by Australia and New Zealand, begins on July 20.
In a surprising turn of events, Manchester United has requested that David De Gea refrain from joining another club, despite his contract coming to an end.
The Red Devils are urging the player to remain with the team as a contingency plan in case they are unable to secure a new first-choice goalkeeper within their limited transfer budget.
Initially, De Gea had been asked to accept a wage reduction from £375,000 to £200,000.
However, even that offer was rescinded as it became evident that manager Erik ten Hag was exploring alternative goalkeeper options.
Manchester United’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper is hindered by their restricted transfer budget and their priority to acquire a new striker.
The club recently made their first signing of the summer, securing Mason Mount for £55 million.
This significant expenditure has depleted nearly half of their available £120 million due to financial fair play regulations.
As a result, Manchester United has been compelled to withdraw from negotiations for Harry Kane, as Tottenham Hotspur demands £100 million for the striker.
Additionally, their pursuit of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, valued at £150 million by the Serie A champions, is also beyond their financial reach.
With the focus now on acquiring a striker, Manchester United has temporarily halted talks to acquire Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana for a fee of £40 million.

United are desperate to get money in through sales to bolster their transfer kitty to resolve the situation.
All the while De Gea has been left in Limbo on the weekend of his wedding to long term partner Edurne Garcia.
De Gea, 32, racked up a club record for a goalkeeper of 545 appearances surpassing the previous highest set by 1968 European Cup winning legend Alex Stepney.
He also celebrated February’sCarabao Cup triumph by surpassing treble winner Peter Schmeichel’s clean sheets record for the club as he notched up his 181st shut out.
The Spaniard was in top form that day to keep Newcastle at bay as Manchester United lifted their first trophy in six years.
He finished the season with the golden glove as well after 17 clean sheets in the Premier League. The second time he has won it after keeping 18 in 2017-18.
He was the club’s player of the year three years on the trot too from 2013-16, which probably tells you as much about the club’s travails in that time as his excellence between the sticks.
To think early in his career after being brought to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid it didn’t look like he was going to reach 45 appearances never mind 545.
Hakim Ziyech’s transfer plans may once again be thwarted as recent reports suggest that he has not passed his medical examination ahead of a potential move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr.
After a lackluster three-year spell at Chelsea, during which he failed to replicate the success he enjoyed at Ajax, Ziyech is poised to depart the club.
Despite Chelsea paying a significant fee of £34 million to acquire him in the summer of 2020, Ziyech struggled with injuries and inconsistencies, resulting in limited playing time.
Despite having multiple managers during his tenure at Stamford Bridge, he failed to win over any of them as a standout favorite.
According to ESPN, Ziyech had the opportunity to leave Chelsea in January, but his potential move to Paris Saint-Germain collapsed due to Chelsea mistakenly sending incorrect documentation three times on deadline day.
Ziyech’s Saudi move in jeopardy
Hakim Ziyech’s transfer plans face uncertainty as it has been reported by Mirror UK that he did not pass his medicalexamination with Al-Nassr due to a knee problem being detected.
This development raises doubts about the move, which would have seen Chelsea receive £17 million, only half of what they initially paid for the 29-year-old Moroccan three years ago.
With Ziyech deemed surplus to requirements in London and new manager Mauricio Pochettino having different plans for the right wing position, the player will now have to consider other options.
The Saudi Pro League has served as an avenue for Chelsea to offload some of their unwanted players, with the likes of N’golo Kante, Edouard Mendy, and Kalidou Koulibaly being sent to the Gulf state.
Former captain of theBlack Stars, Stephen Appiah, has teased that his forthcoming memoir will contain intriguing surprises and reveal hidden secrets from his days as a professional football player.
Appiah expressed that there is much unknown about his humble beginnings in Chorkor, the slum where he grew up, and the remarkable journey that led him to lead Ghana to the World Cup against all odds.
He emphasized that while people are familiar with his national team career and his time abroad, they are unaware of the challenges he faced during his difficult childhood.
During an interview with Joy Sports, the ex-Juventus player disclosed his intention to document his experiences in a book, which will uncover the deep secrets he has carried with him.
“People saw me playing for Accra Hearts of Oak, U-17, U-20 and move to Europe. So they know about my career but there are some deep details that people don’t know”.
He added, “I have to keep it to myself because definitely one day I will write my book and I will put them in. It should be a surprise but I have certain deep details.”
“When I mention that I come from Chorkor, you have to know that I have really come a long way,” Appiah said.
Following a brief break in Ghana,Black Stars winger Osman Bukari has returned to Serbia to commence pre-season training with Red Star Belgrade.
As preparations for the 2023/24 season progress, Bukari joined his teammates and engaged in various training exercises aimed at improving his fitness, all under the guidance of the club’s physical trainer.
The 24-year-old, who recently participated in the AFCON qualifier against Madagascar as part of the Black Stars team, played a significant role in Red Star’s achievements during the previous season.
The former Accra Lions player helped the Serbian giants win the treble which includes the league title.
Red Star Belgrade will take part in the UEFA Champions League hence the early preparations.
President Joe Biden faced a significant setback on Friday as the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his plan to cancel $430 billion in student loan debt.
The ruling, which favored six conservative-leaning states, went against Biden in a 6-3 decision.
The court’s ruling was a blow to the 26 million borrowers who sought relief after Biden’s announcement in August 2022 and marked a political setback for the Democratic president.
Chief Justice John Roberts, along with the court’s five other conservative members, authored the ruling, while the three liberal justices dissented.
Roberts criticized the Biden administration’s argument that the loan forgiveness program was simply a modification of an existing program. He emphasized that such broad actions would require explicit approval from Congress.
“The secretary’s plan has ‘modified’ the cited provisions only in the same sense that the French Revolution ‘modified’ the status of the French nobility’ – it has abolished them and supplanted them with a new regime entirely,” Roberts wrote, referring to U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.
“From a few narrowly delineated situations specified by Congress, the secretary has expanded forgiveness to nearly every borrower in the country,” Roberts said.
The court’s ruling invoked what is called the “major questions” doctrine, a muscular judicial approach that gives judges broad discretion to invalidate executive agency actions of “vast economic and political significance” unless Congress clearly authorized them in legislation.
Biden plans to announce new actions to protect student loan borrowers in the wake of the ruling, a White House source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
“While we strongly disagree with the court, we prepared for this scenario,” the source said, noting that Biden would have more to say on the subject later on Friday.
“The president will make clear he’s not done fighting yet,” the source added.
Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and South Carolina challenged Biden’s debt relief. Two individual borrowers had also opposed the plan’s eligibility requirements but the justices dismissed their challenge on Friday due to a lack of legal standing. The court acted on its final day of rulings in its term that began in October.
Twenty-six million U.S. borrowers applied for relief between when Biden announced the plan in August 2022 until last November, when lower courts blocked the plan.
A CAMPAIGN PROMISE
Biden’s plan fulfilled his 2020 campaign promise to cancel a portion of $1.6 trillion in federal student loan debt but was criticized by Republicans who called it an overreach of his authority and an unfair benefit to college-educated borrowers while other borrowers received no such relief. Biden is seeking re-election next year.
Under the plan, the U.S. government would forgive up to $10,000 in federal student debt for Americans making under $125,000 who obtained loans to pay for college and other post-secondary education and $20,000 for recipients of Pell grants to students from lower-income families.
The ruling came a day after the Supreme Court effectively prohibited affirmative action policies long used by U.S. colleges and universities to raise the number of Black, Hispanic and other underrepresented minority students.
Biden on Thursday said the court, with its conservative majority, was an institution out of touch with the country’s basic values.
During February arguments in the loans case, Biden’s administration said the plan was authorized under a 2003 federal law called the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students Act, or HEROES Act, which empowers the U.S. education secretary to “waive or modify” student financial assistance during war or national emergencies.
The court’s conservative justices had previously used the “major questions” doctrine to invalidate major Biden policies deemed lacking clear congressional authorization.
They did so when they blocked the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from extending eviction protections for cash-strapped residential renters, stymied Biden’s COVID-19 vaccination-or-testing mandate for large businesses and restricted the Environmental Protection Agency’s power to regulate carbon emissions from power plants.
The major questions doctrine arises from an approach favored by many conservatives and business groups to rein in what they view as excesses of the “administrative state.”
They object to what they consider accumulated power by the executive branch without proper checks by the courts and Congress.
Liberal Justice Elena Kagan, in a dissent that was joined by her two fellow liberals, derided the major questions doctrine as “made-up.”
“Small wonder the majority invokes the doctrine,” Kagan wrote. “The majority’s ‘normal’ statutory interpretation cannot sustain its decision. The statute, read as written, gives the Secretary broad authority to relieve a national emergency’s effect on borrowers’ ability to repay their student loans.”
Both Biden and his Republican predecessor Donald Trump relied upon the HEROES Act beginning in 2020 to repeatedly pause student loan payments and halt interest from accruing to alleviate financial strain on student loan borrowers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the arguments, a Justice Department lawyer portrayed the debt relief as a benefits program rather than an assertion of regulatory power not authorized by Congress.
Some 53% of Americans said they support Biden’s debt relief, with 45% opposed, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll from March, with respondents dividing sharply along partisan lines with Democrats broadly supportive and Republicans generally opposed.
Given their incredible accomplishments in the sport, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are recognised as the GOATs of footballers, but Neymar is not far behind either superstar.
While Messi and Ronaldo have won many Ballon d’Ors throughout their careers, Neymar has yet to receive the honour despite being one of the best players in the world.
At the age of 30, Neymar has recorded an impressive tally of goals and assists, placing him second only to Messi.
With a total of 627 goal contributions, Neymar has outperformed Ronaldo, who has 617 goal contributions.
Messi, on the other hand, leads the pack with a remarkable 796 goal contributions.
Thus, while Ronaldo trails closely behind Neymar, it is Messi who holds the top position in terms of overall goal contributions at this stage of their careers.
The Brazilian forward scored 71 goals for Santos, 105 goals for Barcelona, and 105 goals for PSG, Transfermarkt reports.
Neymar hails Cristiano and Messi
Meanwhile, Neymar has admitted it is difficult for anyone to compete with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in football due to both superstars’ achievements, Sportskeeda reports.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward has competed against the multiple Ballon d’Or winners several times in his career and reveals Ronaldo and Messi are the benchmarks of greatness in modern football.
Messi has won seven Ballon d’Or awards, while Cristiano has bagged five in his career but now both players have moved out of Europe after two decades.
Neymar auctions Messi’s special award
It was reported that Neymar has auctionedParis Saint-Germain’s tribute award to Lionel Messi during the third edition of the Brazilian superstar’s charity auction in Sao Paolo.
The Ligue 1 giants awarded Messi the special tribute award after announcing his departure from PSG, after spending two years with the Parisians.
Famous streamer, Casemiro, won the third-most expensive item of the night as he offered $173,000 for the Lionel Messi trophy.
This situation has attracted the interest of several clubs, who are closely monitoring his status and considering a potential move for the talented center-back.
Djiku’s impressive performances during his time at Strasbourg have garnered attention from football clubs across Europe.
With no transfer fee involved, his expiring contract makes him an enticing prospect in the upcoming transfer market.
News of Djiku’s imminent free agent status has sparked interest from clubs in different leagues.
Mainz from Germany, Besiktas from Turkey, and Lille from France have already expressed their desire to sign the 28-year-old defender, while other teams may also join the race for his signature in the following weeks.
Strasbourg is also keen on securing Djiku’s services and is eager for him to sign a new deal.
Since joining the club in 2019, Djiku has proven his worth with over 100 appearances and played a vital role in helping the team secure safety in Ligue 1 last season.
His defensive prowess and versatility on the pitch have been evident.
WithDjiku available on a free transfer, clubs have a valuable opportunity to bolster their defensive departments without significant financial expenditure.
Finland’s economy minister, Vilhelm Junnila, has stepped down from his position after only 10 days following a controversial statement connected to Nazis, as reported by the nationalist Finns Party.
Junnila’s decision to resign comes after surviving a no-confidence vote in parliament.
“For the continuation of the governmentand the reputation of Finland, I see that it is impossible for me to continue as a minister in a satisfactory way,” Junnila said in a statement on Friday.
He is a member of the Finns Party, part of a right-wing coalition that took office on June 20 after an April election.
On June 28, Junnila survived a no-confidence vote in parliament called by the opposition, the Green League, which accused him of repeatedly making Nazi references.
“The connections to far-right movements are not a single mistake, misunderstanding or bad humour, but rather repeated, systematic and comradely liaison,” Green League MP Hanna Holopainen said as she proposed the motion on Tuesday evening.
Finns Party chairwoman Riikka Purra defended the minister on Twitter, accusing the opposition of attempting to oust him for his “bad and ill-suited” humour.
Distasteful joke
Public television YLE witnessed Junnila congratulating his fellow party member on his candidature number, which was 88, during his election campaign.
The image is recognised as a neo-Nazi emblem and is used in place of the Heil Hitler salute, which pays homage to Adolf Hitler, the Nazi commander during World War II.
“First of all, congratulations for the excellent candidate number. I know it’s a winning card.
Obviously, this ’88’ refers to two H letters which we won’t say more about,” Junnila said in his address at a campaign event on March 10, according to YLE.
Junnila has apologised for his choice of words, saying it was a distasteful joke.
“I condemn holocaust, antisemitism and all antisemitic acts completely,” he wrote on social media last Thursday.
In the April election, the eurosceptic, anti-immigration Finns Party came in second with 20.1 percent of the vote, right behind the National Coalition Party (NCP) at 20.8 percent.
The conservative NCP then formed a coalition with the Finns Party and two smaller groups.
On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court was expected to make a ruling regarding the legality ofPresident Joe Biden’s proposal to cancel $430 billion in student loan debt. This initiative aimed to benefit around 43 million Americans and fulfill one of Biden’s campaign promises.
During the February arguments of the case, the conservative justices displayed skepticism towards the plan as they considered legal challenges brought forth by six conservative-leaning states (Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Carolina) and two individual borrowers.
This dispute, one of two significant rulings expected on the final day of the term that started in October, carries high stakes for the 26 million U.S. borrowers who sought relief after Biden announced the plan in August 2022.
However, lower courts halted the implementation of the plan in November.
Biden’s proposal fulfilled his promise from the 2020 campaign to cancel a portion of the $1.6 trillion federal student loan debt.
Nonetheless, Republicans criticized it, deeming it an overreach of his authority and an unfair advantage for college-educated borrowers compared to others who did not receive such relief.
Biden, who is running for re-election next year, introduced a plan where the U.S. government would forgive up to $10,000 in federal student debt for individuals earning less than $125,000 and who took out loans to finance their college or post-secondary education.
Additionally, recipients of Pell grants from lower-income families would be eligible for up to $20,000 in debt forgiveness.
During February arguments in the case, Biden’s administration said the plan was authorized under a 2003 federal law called the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students Act, or HEROES Act, which empowers the U.S. education secretary to “waive or modify” student financial assistance during war or national emergencies.”
Both Biden, a Democrat, and his Republican predecessor Donald Trump relied upon the HEROES Act beginning in 2020 to repeatedly pause student loan payments and halt interest from accruing to alleviate financial strain on student loan borrowers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the arguments, a Justice Department lawyer portrayed the debt relief as a benefits program rather than an assertion of regulatory power not authorized by Congress.
In response to the legal challenge brought by the states, a federal judge in Missouri in October 2022 ruled that they lacked the legal standing to sue. On appeal, the St. Louis-based 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that at least one of the states, Missouri, had proper standing.
In the case brought by individual borrowers named Myra Brown and Alexander Taylor, a federal judge in Texas ruled in November 2022 that the plan exceeded the Biden administration’s authority – a ruling that the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals declined to put on hold pending appeal.
Some 53% of Americans said they support Biden’s debt relief, with 45% opposed, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll from March, with respondents dividing sharply along partisan lines with Democrats broadly supportive and Republicans generally opposed.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the successful conclusion of the FIFA Central Review for the accounting period spanning from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022.
This marks the fourth consecutive positive review for the GFA under the leadership of Kurt Okraku, who assumed office in 2019.
The successful FIFA Audit is crucial for the Association’s developmental plans, as a failure to pass the audit would lead to repercussions from FIFA, including the withholding of project funds, programs, and FIFA Forward allocations.
PwC conducted this year’s FIFA Central Review. It should be noted that the GFA also underwent a Statutory Audit, as required by Ghanaian law, FIFA regulations, and the GFA Statutes.
The international audit firm BakerTilly Andah + Andah completed the audit for the period from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022, in December 2022.
The audit report has been submitted to FIFA and forms part of the documentation for the GFA Congress.
The completion of the Statutory Audit by BakerTilly Andah + Andah fulfills the requirements outlined in Article 67 of the GFA Statutes, which pertains to Independent and External Auditors.
“The independent and external auditors appointed by the Congress shall audit on a yearly basis the management accounts of the GFA in accordance with the appropriate principles of accounting and present a report to Congress”.
In line with the GFA accounting year, at the end of June 2023, the GFA Accounts for the period July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, will be prepared and the statutory audit conducted with a copy going to FIFA on or before December 31, 2023.
Reece James is receiving adoration from Chelsea supporters as he remains committed to his roots as a graduate of the club’s academy, particularly with the news of Manchester United’s agreement to sign Mason Mount.
Chelsea’s Cobham Academy has gained a reputation for nurturing talented players, although only a few have successfully made it to the senior team. However, this changed when Frank Lampard took over as manager in 2019.
Lampard’s arrival coincided with a transfer ban, prompting him to hand first-team debuts to eight academy prospects, including James, Mount, Abraham, and Tomori.
James is the only one left at the club of those eight after The Athletic reported that Chelsea and United have agreed on a fee of £60m including add-ons for Mount.
Chelsea pride in Reece James
Mount has received a lot of backlash since it emerged he has chosen Old Trafford as his preferred destination after he rejected contract offers from West London.
Shortly after the agreement between the clubs was confirmed, a fan wrote on Twitter: ‘Reece James to Arsenal, who says no’ and the defender was quick to respond ‘I say no’.
The club’s Twitter admin was quick to quote the tweet and wrote ‘One of our own’ and added a picture of the player shushing the away crowd after scoring against Arsenal.
Another Cobham star, Trevoh Chalobah, who was handed his debut by Thomas Tuchel, expressed sadness at Mount’s departure and tweeted ‘My boy’ with a tear and heartbreak emoji.
Spanish media AS reported that Real Madrid are interested in James, after he shone against them in the UEFA Champions knockout stages. However, he has a contract at Chelsea until 2029.
Thiago Silva’s emotional reaction
Sports Brief reported that Thiago Silva gave an emotional reaction when the news broke that Mount will not be continuing at the club next season.
The Brazilian veteran defender dropped two teary emoji on the news on Instagram, showing how much the 24-year-old is loved by his teammates.
Silva could also leave Chelsea in a year’s time. He has one year left on his contract and is reportedly interested in a return to Brazil with former club Fluminese.
Deputy Sports Minister Evance Opoku Bobie has acknowledged that the Black Meteors are currently far from being a team capable of winning a trophy.
Accompanying the team in Morocco for the ongoing U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, Bobbie attributed Ghana’s 5-1 loss to the host nation on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, to the significant investment made by North African countries in developing their football.
Bobbie expressed concerns about the decline in Ghanaian football and highlighted the visible flaws in the team.
He also acknowledged the public’s eagerness for Ghana to achieve success and secure a trophy.
“Where our soccer has reached, everyone knows we have a lot of problems. I will admit. We are hungry for the cup but if you don’t have a solid team how do you win the cup?
“So we have had discussions and we will hold a meeting with FA when we get home. We have to have a discussion in Ghana involving all stakeholders and all the players in the sports industry.
“We need to have a sit-down and have a detailed discussion, including the ministry, the FA, the Sports journalist, and everyone in the industry so that we can figure out a way (to solve the issues),” he told Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV on YouTube.
“After visiting Morocco’s national team facilities known as the Kings Sports Complex, he went on to share his experience and raised concerns about the Meteors’ ability to win the trophy without a well-defined project and structure in place.
“I had the privilege to visit the Kings Sports Complex. It is a solid, massive infrastructure.
The young ones that beat us 5-1 were there. They camp the national teams there, U-17 has their hotel, U-20, and so on.
So I realized that the result they got against us is because of what they have done over there…At the moment, the country wants a cup but how do you get the cup without proper preparation and a solid foundation? How?
So what I will tell the people who are hungry for Cup is that the preparation to win the Cup is very weak,” he added.
Ghana’s hopes of progressing to the semi-finals of the 2023 U-23 AFCON hang in the balance as they face the need for a victory in their final group game against Guinea on Friday, June 30, 2023.
Both teams currently have 4 points each, and Guinea will be aiming for a draw to secure advancement based on goal difference.
Ghana’s motivation extends beyond the tournament, as they are determined to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, putting an end to their nearly two-decade-long pursuit of Olympic qualification.
Captain of Ghana’s Black Stars,Andre Dede Ayew, and his stunning wife, Yvonne Ayew, exuded pure glamour as they graced the extravagant wedding ceremony of French football sensation Bafetimbi Gomis on June 24, 2023.
The star-studded guest list consisted mostly of football stars, creating an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation.
Andre Ayew, having been teammates with Gomis during their memorable stint in England and France reunited as old friends on this joyous occasion.
Radiating style and joy, the Ayews dazzled with their impeccable fashion choices, which they proudly showcased on their social media accounts.
One captivating snapshot on Yvonne Ayew’s Instagram captured the couple exuding elegance and sheer happiness as they embarked on their journey to the wedding venue.
Bafetimbi Gomis, the groom of the day, celebrated his union in a splendid ceremony that captured attention.
Andre Ayew, who had the privilege of playing alongside Gomis at both Olympic Marseille and Swansea City, expressed his heartfelt congratulations to his dear friend.
In a touching post, Ayew conveyed his pride and well wishes, stating, “Proud of you my brother the Lion ???? ❤️???????? @bafetimbigomis. May you and your family enjoy a lifetime of happiness together. A&B.”
Real Madrid legend, Zinedine Zidane, has expressed his delight at the prospect of coaching Kylian Mbappe, who is widely regarded as one of the club’s most coveted transfer targets.
The future of Kylian Mbappe remains uncertain, as he is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain either this summer or potentially the following year.
Zidane has admitted that he himself would love to have the opportunity to coach the French superstar.
“When you are a coach and there is a player like him, of course, you want to coach him.
Many things can happen. It could happen one day. He is a player who represents the French shirt well. In any case, I admire what he does.
He is beautiful, he is strong,” Zidane explained at an EA event, which was reported on by Marca.
That would suggest that Zidane would perhaps be open to one of two destinations, at least at this point.
Zidane’s next coaching destination
Zinedine Zidane, who has previously managed Real Madrid twice, has expressed hisinterest in coaching Kylian Mbappe, indicating a potential desire to return to the club if the PSG forward were to join.
The current Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti, is expected not to renew his contract, which expires in 2024, according to reports. This opens up the possibility for Zidane’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Alternatively, Zidane may also have ambitions to coach the French national team.
Didier Deschamps is currently the coach until the end of the 2026 World Cup, but Zidane has been linked with the position in the past.
It is worth noting that Zidane’s comments may have been spontaneous, and expressing his desire to coach Mbappe could simply be a natural response for any coach.
His statement, “It could happen one day,” may hint at an underlying aspiration to see their collaboration become a reality, considering Zidane’s experience in handling the media.
Zidane rejects PSG
Reports have it that Zidane turned down the chance to replace Christophe Galtier in the PSG dugout.
Whilst Galtier’s departure hasn’t yet been officially confirmed by PSG, it has been widely reported that the former OGC Nice manager, who only arrived at the club in the summer, has already been informed by Sporting Advisor Luís Campos that he is no longer Les Parisiens’ manager.
It is understood that Szoboszlai has a £60 million release clause in his contract, which is set to expire on June 30. Meanwhile, Newcastle has withdrawn from the race for the midfielder.
Szoboszlai has expressed a desire to join Liverpool, and with Newcastle no longer pursuing him, there is an increased possibility of a deal being reached with RB Leipzig.
Liverpool had positive discussions with the player’s representatives on Monday and are actively engaged in negotiations.
The club appreciates Szoboszlai’s talent, attitude, and versatility in playing across the midfield.
His impressive chance-creation skills and ability to carry the ball align with Liverpool’s desired profile for midfield reinforcements.
Alongside Szoboszlai, Liverpool has also been exploring other options to enhance the technical quality, dynamism, and depth in midfield.
Although Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella has been targeted, he appears inclined to remain at the San Siro, as he aims to become a club legend.
Liverpool has also been monitoring Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich and Khephren Thuram from Nice as potential options for midfield reinforcements.
Image:Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella is wanted by Liverpool
Liverpool are navigating the biggest shake-up of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at a time when the market – especially for midfielders – is severely inflated, and without Champions League revenue or a big player sale to help.
Affordability, availability and the appetite to restore Liverpool as a domestic and European force are the core factors being assessed.
The Reds secured Alexis Mac Allister at the start of June for an initial fee of around £35m in the type of shrewd transfer that had marked them out as recruitment leaders.
However, that deal is viewed as an anomaly rather than the norm during a summer of soaring valuations.

Report fromUEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) adjudicatory committee, determined that two £15 million payments from a broker were actually funds provided by Manchester City’s owners, disguised as sponsorship revenue.
The report, which serves as the written explanation behind UEFA’s decision to suspend Manchester City from European competition for two years, was not made public initially due to the club’s appeal against the ruling.
However, it has now been obtained by the creators of a YouTube film released recently and has also been reviewed by The Times.
It provides further insights into UEFA’s investigation into Manchester City’s financial activities and the allegations of breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.
It should be noted that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) later overturned the CFCB’s verdict, leading to Manchester City’s suspension being lifted.
When contacted by the PA news agency, UEFA declined to comment on the report.
The report reveals that during a UEFA disciplinary hearing, Manchester City’s lawyersargued that two £15 million sponsorship payments from telecommunications company Etisalat in 2012 and 2013 were actually made by a broker named Jaber Mohammed.
It was further stated that Etisalat repaid the money to City’s owners in 2015.
According to The Times, the adjudicatory committee of the CFCB concluded that arrangements were made to attribute these payments to the sponsorship obligations of Etisalat, disguising their true purpose as equity funding provided by the Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG), a private equity fund controlled by City owner Sheikh Mansour.
The report states that City’s management was aware of this arrangement.
In July 2020, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned Manchester City’s two-year suspension imposed by UEFA.
CAS noted that UEFA should not have dealt with the charges related to Etisalat as they had surpassed the five-year time limit.
It is unclear whether the Etisalat payments are part of the Premier League’s ongoing case against Manchester City, which involves 115 charges related to alleged breaches of financial rules and a failure to cooperate with the investigation.
However, if they are included, they would not be time-barred.
The 32-year-old informed Celtic and the Australian national team of his immediate retirement.
Mooy has been a key figure for the Australian national team, commonly known as the Socceroos, since his debut in 2015. He played a significant role in their 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup campaigns.
Having enjoyed successful stints with clubs like Manchester City, Huddersfield, and Brighton, Mooy joined Celtic last year with the intention of helping them secure the Scottish treble under former Australian national team manager Ange Postecoglou.
However, he has decided to hang up his boots and step away from professional football.
“I’ve had the honour of playing alongside some of the best footballers that Australia has produced, creating lifelong friendships along the way,” he said in a statement.
“This has been a hugely difficult decision (to retire), but I feel the time is right for the next generation to be given the opportunity to experience international football.”

Coach Annor Walker has departed Samartex FC following a mutual agreement between the club and the veteran coach.
Walker had joined the club at the start of the previous season, coming from Great Olympics.
After securing promotion to the top flight from the Division One League, Samartex brought in Walker with the aim of establishing a solid foundation for the team to compete with the top clubs.
During his tenure, Walker guided Samartex to a respectable finish in the top ten, accumulating 46 points from 34 matches.
However, the club and the coach have now reached a mutual agreement to part ways after just one season together.
Following the departure of 62-year-old coach Annor Walker, FC Samartex has initiated a search for a suitable replacement. The club confirmed the news through an official statement on Twitter.
Walker, who previously led the Black Galaxies to the quarter-finals of the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria, where they were eliminated by Niger, has been rumored to be a potential candidate for the coaching position at 2020/21 Ghana Premier League champions,Hearts of Oak.
Hearts of Oak is currently seeking a permanent replacement for Serbian coach Slavko Matic.
As FC Samartex begins their search for a new coach, the club will be aiming to find a suitable candidate who can continue the progress made under Walker’s guidance.
Ghanaian left-back Patrick Kpozo has completed a move to Czech Republic club Banik Ostrava on a two-year contract from Moldovan champions Sheriff Tiraspor.
Kpozo, aged 25, had a brief spell of 18 months with Sheriff Tiraspor after joining them from Swedish club Östersund in January 2022.
His impressive performances during this period earned him a call-up to the Ghana national team.
During his time with Sheriff Tiraspor, Kpozo made 15 league appearances, contributing to their eighth consecutive league title win and qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
He also featured in eight matches in the UEFA Europa League and made two appearances in the Moldovan Cup.
In March, Kpozo was initially invited byBlack Stars coach Chris Hughton to join the Ghana national team for their doubleheader against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
He had to wait until the following match against Madagascar, where he made his debut and won the admiration of many due to the previous left-back players’ lacklustre performances, Baba Rahman and Gideon Mensah.
As his new team Banik Ostrava struggled defensively last season, Patrick Kpozo is expected to strengthen their defence under his leadership.
They avoided being demoted after the playoffs by placing 12th in the regular season.
There has been some skepticism surrounding Messi’s move to Major League Soccer (MLS).
However, Inter Miami’s new coach, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, who is a long-time friend of Messi, emphasized that Messi’s decision to join the club is purely based on business and the desire to win, rather than the allure of Miami’s sunny beaches.
Martino made these remarks during his introductory press conference, as reported by Football Espana.
“When we spoke with Leo, yesterday I spoke with Sergio, we talked about arriving to have success, to compete and compete well,” Martino said.
“This happens to us even on a personal level, sometimes we associate the United States, Miami, [with] holidays — this isn’t that. We want to compete… they are not footballers who are going to come here to not compete.”
Martino, who was announced on Wednesday as Inter Miami’s new head coach, is following Messi and Busquets to Miami, both of whom revealed their decisions to join the MLS club earlier this month.
Martino speaks on Inter Miami
The accomplished Argentine manager — who, as reported by ESPN, was crowned MLS coach of the year in 2018 — has coached both players before, as he worked with Messi and Busquets during hisstint with Barcelona from 2013 to 2014 and Messi on the Argentine national team from 2014-16.
But Martino said his decision to join the club premeditated Messi and Busquets hopping aboard.
“I started the talks before [the additions of Messi and Busquets],” Martino said. “I always found this opportunity attractive…let’s just say that the presents arrived next.
Messi, Martino, and Busquets will have a steep road to climb to get Inter Miami back into the race.
The MLS team now on a seven-game losing run and is in last place in the league standings.
Martino thinks that Messi’s addition will significantly boost the American soccer league’s growth.
“That the best player in the world decides to play in this league, obviously it will open up an even better panorama for that growth. I believe that the United States is not a country that misses out on this type of opportunity.”
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has shed light on whyLionel Messi did not join the club this summer, despite Barcelona being his preferred choice, according to reports from Sportskeeda.
After Messi announced his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona was seen as the frontrunners to re-sign the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Laporta has now revealed that Messi’s desire to take a break from the spotlight, following his challenging two years at PSG, led him to choose a move to MLS side Inter Miami.
Despite Barcelona offering the 36-year-old superstar a return to Camp Nou, discussions with Messi’s father, Jorge, indicated that he preferred a break from European football.
It’s worth noting that Messi still holds the record as Barcelona’s all-time leading goal scorer, having scored an impressive 672 goals and provided 303 assists in 778 appearances for the Catalan giants.
Barca to host Messi tribute
The date for a prospective farewell to the superstar at Camp Nou has been confirmed by Joan Laporta, according to Goal, thus Lionel Messi is poised to make a historic return to Barcelona.
The day the Spotify Camp Nou opens, according to Laporta, would be a great time to pay a particular tribute to Messi, who joined Inter Miami this summer.
The president of Barcelona continued by expressing his sadness about having to say goodbye to Messi in 2021 because Barca was unable to pay for the legendary player to sign a new deal.
Messi’s Intentions in the MLS
Earlier, it was reported Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets are expected to be unveiled as new Inter Miami players. The latter’s signing has already been announced, while Messi’s is expected in the near future.
TheGhana Football Association (GFA) has sparked a contentious debate within the football community by suggesting a significant increase in the filing fee for the GFA presidential position.
The proposed fee would rise from GHC 5,000 to GHC 50,000, and its implications will be extensively discussed at the upcoming Congress meeting scheduled for July 10, 2023.
Ntow Fianko, a former Chairman of the Division One League Board, has emerged as a prominent critic of the fee hike.
Fianko strongly opposes the proposed increase, arguing that it is excessively high and will discourage well-meaning individuals from participating in the presidential race.
He believes that such a hefty fee will hinder Ghana’s progress in football administration by limiting the pool of potential candidates.
“How do people who have the interest of Ghana at heart afford such a fee? This is unreasonable and should be thrown out at the Congress meeting,” he said in an interview with Happy FM.
“Setting up this proposal looks like a scheme being set up to deter others from contesting the incumbent, Kurt Okraku.
“From GHC5000 to GHC50,000? And their excuse is to cover the cost of elections? This is not the first we are having such elections. Such an excuse is flimsy.”
As the July 10 Congress meeting approaches, the GFA hopes to secure approval for these proposed changes.
Osimhen’s impressive performances last season for Napoli have made him highly sought after in the transfer market.
He played a significant role in Napoli’s Scudetto triumph and etched his name in the history books as the first African player to win the Golden Boot award in Italy, having scored 26 league goals.
While enjoying his holidays in Lagos, Osimhen participated in a small match on Wednesday, June 28, where he showcased his skills by dribbling past three players before unleashing a remarkable shot that found the back of the net, leaving fans in awe.
After viewing the video, Piers Morgan, aged 58, expressed his belief on Twitter that Arsenal should make a move for Osimhen, emphasizing his admiration for the Nigerian striker’s abilities.
Piers Morgan hails Osimhen
”If Arsenal wants to win big trophies, they need a world-class striker who will score 25+ goals a season. I’d break the bank for Osimhen.”
Onazi hosts Osimhen, Asiwaju Lerry
Earlier,it was reported how an awesome video was spotted on social media where Super Eagles legend Ogenyi Onazi was seen hosting Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and media personality Asiwaju Lerry in his mansion in Lagos.

Ghana has climbed up in themost recent FIFA rankings, securing the 59th position among the world’s best-performing countries.
However, their placement within the CAF category remains unchanged, as they continue to occupy the 11th position.
During the recent international break in June, the Black Stars faced a draw against Madagascar, adding to their 2023 record of one win and two draws in three matches.
Ghana have now gone over a year without entering the top 10 in Africa. Their last feature dates back to October 2021, when they were ranked 7th.
Morocco retained first place despite a draw and a defeat to Cape Verde and South Africa in the international break, which included a victory over Brazil.
Senegal, who beat Brazil and drew with Benin sits second followed by Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso on the top 10 list.
The world’s top ten list of countries also stays constant. However, England and Croatia have each risen one spot.
England, who were ranked fifth in the previous ranking, is now fourth, while Croatia has surpassed the Netherlands to reach seventh place.
The coach of the Black Meteors, Ibrahim Tanko, is confident Ghana will beat Guinea to qualify for the semi-final of the U23 AFCON on Friday, June 30, at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangiers.
Ghana’s U23 side lost by 5-1 to Morocco in their second group encounter in the tournament. The team began the tournament on a bright note beating Congo by 3-2. However, Ghana and Guinea both have three points after managing one win and a defeat
The Black Meteors will have to win their match against Guinea to progress to the semi-finals of the U23 AFCON.
The section aims to break the jinx that has kept Ghana absent from the Olympic Men’s Soccer event in recent years.
Speaking to journalists at the team’s base in Rabat’s Ibis Hotel on Wednesday, following their final training session at thePrince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Tanko acknowledged the unpredictable nature of football but remained confident in Ghana’s ability to secure the three points and advance.
“It’s football, and anything can happen, but I’m 100 percent sure that we are going to have the three points and qualify,” he affirmed.
The Black Meteors will take on Guinea on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 8 pm GMT.
Saddick Adams, a former striker of Asante Kotoko, has expressed that he holds a deep grudge against the club for the dismal treatment he experienced in the aftermath of the team’s tragic accident in 2017.
Adams, who was a former youth star at Atletico Madrid, stated that both he and the other victims were neglected and not provided with the compensation they were owed.
He revealed that the management, after neglecting the players, went ahead and placed the on transfer with no reason, hence, he will never forgive the club.
“For me, I feel very bad. I always talk about it. I will never forgive them and It’s not only me, the whole team. It’s part of the story of why we left Kotoko because they thought maybe we were complaining too much. It was our right because it happened and you told us this is what you are going to do.
That time, even if they had given us 1 cedi or 2 cedis no one would be complaining now. They took like ‘Who are you, people? You came to sign a contract and maybe after the contract you will go.’ We didn’t even finish our contract.
“You see how they just put us on transfer without any reason. All the players, so that we won’t complain again,” he told Sports Journalist Saddick Adams in an interview.
In a previous interview, former Kotoko midfielder, Michael Akuffo, who sustained injuries in the accident, said the incident left him with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and that he gets frightened every time he steps onto the pitch.
He stated that his PTSD has caused him to lose interest in playing football.
“Two days ago I was reading something about our goalkeeper’s coach, Sampson Appiah( a victim) that he’s been neglected. I felt bad about it and it is something I pray shouldn’t happen to any team because it was a horrible scene. It is part of the reason I lost my love for playing football,” he told Angel FM.
He further asserted that not only does he gets scared when he steps on the pitch but also gets petrified whenever he is in a car.
“Because I get terrified when I step on the pitch due to the injury I sustained and also I get scared when I’m in a car. Mentally I was down, so it took somebody to psyche me up to come to my senses,” he added.
Asante Kotoko team bus was involved in a fatal accident on Wednesday, July 13, 2017, on their way back to Kumasi after their game against Inter Allies in Accra, resulting in the death of Deputy Equipment Officer, Thomas Kofi Obeng Asare.
Other players who sustained injuries include Ollenu Ashitey, and Baba Mahama alongside some players and officials.
Saddick Adams spent two years at Asante Kotoko. His most memorable moment was scoring a hattrick against the Porcupines’ fierce rivalHearts of Oak in the MTN FA Cup final in 2017.
Charles Taylor, a former player of Accra Hearts of Oak, has raised doubts about Annor Walker’s suitability as the head coach of the club.
Taylor expressed his belief that Walker will not be able to sustain his position for more than six months at Hearts of Oak.
Walker, previously associated with Great Olympics and recently departed from Samartex, has been linked to the Ghanaian giants.
Despite these connections, Taylor questions Walker’s capability to handle the pressure that comes with managing Hearts of Oak, suggesting a short tenure for him in the role.
“Annor Walker can’t contain the pressure at Hearts of Oak. He won’t last even six months.”
The Ghana Premier League legend proposed that ex-Hearts coach Samuel Boadu or former Asante Kotoko gaffer Prosper Ogum be considered for the position.
“He can’t coach Hearts of Oak, Togbe should bring Samuel Boadu or Prosper Ogum,” he said.
Hearts of Oak had a difficult season, finishing in 12th place with 46 points.
Sources have informed ESPN that Newcastle United is currently in discussions to host aSaudi Arabia national team match at St James’ Park during the international break in September.
The Premier League club, which came under the majority ownership of the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) in October 2021, successfully qualified for the Champions League at the conclusion of the previous season, marking their return to the competition after a 20-year absence.
Additionally, they reached a major final for the first time in this century, narrowly losing to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final held in February.
And sources have told ESPN that the club are now in discussions with the football federations of Saudi Arabia and Mexico over a friendly game between the two nations at Newcastle’s stadium on Sept. 7.
Mexico are planning to play two games in England — another fixture against South Korea at an English venue to be decided has been pencilled in for Sept. 12 — with their mini tour due to start with a game against Saudi, who they defeated 2-1 during the group stage of Qatar 2022 last November.
Sources have told ESPN that the game between Saudi Arabia and Mexico has still to be confirmed officially but that discussions are ongoing between the federations and Newcastle.
The English Football Association would also be required to grant permission for the game to be staged in this country.
Should the game take place at Newcastle, it would be the first time that the Saudi-owned club has staged a Saudi Arabia fixture at St James’ Park.
Newcastle sparked controversy last season by producing an away kit in the white-and-green colours ofSaudi Arabia, but during the takeover process in 2021, assurances were given to the Premier League that the Saudi state would have no direct control over the club, despite the links between the PIF and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is the chairman of the PIF.
Fans have expressed mixed reactions on social media following the news of this potential deal between the two clubs.
After a prolonged saga involving Mount, it seems that United and Chelsea have reached an agreement, with renowned football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano indicating the agreed fee to be around £60m.
Earlier in the week, Chelsea had rejected a £55m offer from United, who were growing increasingly frustrated at how negotiations were going, but never gave up their pursuit.
Erik Ten Hag was keen on making Mount his first summer signing, and it appears he will finally have his man, as a medical is scheduled before the coming week.
Is Mount’s fee too high?
While there is no denying Mason Mount is a brilliant acquisition for Manchester United, rival fans felt the club should have paid far less for his services.
Part of the reason for this is because Mount made it clear he wanted toleave Stamford Bridge, and his contract with the Blues was running out fast.
Here are some reactions from fans:
@Tunnykvg said:
“Man United will always pay. I knew it.”
While @cfcenzo was distraught to see Mount leave, saying:
“I never thought he would leave Chelsea but it is what it is. We move! In a way I’m happy that this saga finally comes to an end.”
@crissybear said:
“60 what??? 40million got Maddison who is a better player.”
According to Fabrizio, Mount will sign a five year deal at Manchester United as personal terms were agreed days before the two clubs found common ground.
Vardy rejects Saudi Arabia move
Sports Brief also reported on how Jamie Vardy reportedly turned down the chance to move to Saudi Arabia.
The veteran striker turned down the Middle East despite Leicester’s relegation as he believes it would not be a good move for his family.
Leicester have already lost one of their superstars after their drop, with James Maddison on the verge of sealing a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
