Benjamin Mendy confesses to having sex with 10,000 women in court

Accusations of attempted and new rape against Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy have been made in court statements.

A BBC investigation revealed that Mendy claimed to have slept with 10,000 different women.

“It’s fine, I’ve had sex with 10,000 women,” a jury has heard as quoted by BBC.

The incidents are said to have taken place at Mendy’s residence in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire, in October 2020, involving two women aged 24 and 29 at the time.

The accused footballer, 28 years old, has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The trial is currently taking place at Chester Crown Court, with a jury consisting of six women and six men.

The presiding judge, Stephen Everett, informed the jury that Mendy had been acquitted of previous sexual offense allegations brought by other women in a trial that concluded in January of this year.

The judge instructed the jurors to base their decision solely on the evidence presented in the current trial and advised against seeking information about the previous trial or following media coverage related to it.

In September 2022, Benjamin Mendy was cleared of one count of rape.

The clearance was under the direction of Judge, Stephen Everett during a trial at Chester crown court on September 13, 2022.

According to The Guardian, the French international was found not guilty of the rape case raised against him by a 19-year-old woman.

Louis Saha Matturie, who is a co-accused by the same woman was also found not guilty of two rape counts and one sexual abuse.

In 2019, the 19-year-old woman accused Mendy and Matturie of multiple rape counts and sexual assaults that occurred in the Man City player’s home in Prestbury, Cheshire, on 24 July.

Despite being found not guilty, the two are still on trial for multiple sexual offences.

Ailing die hard fan wills properties to Neymar Jr

According to reports, an ardent supporter of Neymar has made the surprising decision to leave all of his belongings to the Brazilian football star in his officially documented will.

The fan, aged 30 and choosing to remain anonymous, disclosed this intention to a local Brazilian publication called Metropoles.

In an interview with Reuters, the fan clarified that due to his deteriorating health, he wished to bequeath his possessions to Neymar.

He stated, “I am not in very good health and, because of that, I really saw that I have no-one to leave my things to.”

When questioned about his decision to leave his assets to Neymar, despite the player’s wealth, the fan emphasized his admiration for the footballer. He shared, “I like Neymar, I identify with him a lot.

“I also suffer from defamation, I am also very family-orientated and the relationship with his father reminds me a lot of mine with my father, who has already passed away.

“But above all, I know that, above all, he is not greedy, something a little rare nowadays.”

The fan also disclosed that he had previously attempted to send assets to Neymar, but was unsuccessful in doing so.

Neymar, who has achieved great success with Santos, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain, has amassed a large following both in Brazil and worldwide.

The 31-year-old forward has become one of the most popular stars in the world of football.

  • Kylian Mbappe wishes for ‘Messi-style deal’ when he leaves PSG

Kylian Mbappe wishes for ‘Messi-style deal’ when he leaves PSG

Kylian Mbappe is said to desire a contract comparable to Lionel Messi’s arrangement at Inter Miami when he eventually departs from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to reports.

The 24-year-old French superstar is anticipated to leave the Ligue 1 giants either during this summer transfer window or potentially next year, and he is likely to receive numerous offers.

However, any club interested in signing Mbappe will need to meet the demands set forth by the World Cup winner.

According to Okdiaro, Mbappe wants his next contract to include a series of variables that would see him earn money from the income generated by the sports brand.

It would also include payments from a portion of television rights, similar to Messi’s contract in the MLS.

Messi made the move to the USA after his contract expired with PSG this summer.

All this extra payment would come on top of a contract that would likely be similar to the one he is on with PSG.

It is thought that Mbappe is currently earning £1million-per-week as his normal salary.

However, the report claims that he has been paid almost £300m in bonuses.

Real Madrid appear to be the favourites to sign Mbappe, having come close to signing him last summer before he signed a new contract with PSG.

However, there is interest from Premier League sides in signing the French superstar.

Liverpool are willing to pay £215m to PSG in order to sign the forward as his future remains up in the air.

Fifa agent Marco Kirdemir told Marca: “Liverpool is competing with Real Madrid and wants to pay a fortune for Mbappé, that fortune he speaks of would be around 300 million.”

He added that PSG chiefs in Qatar are fuming with Mbappe’s contract stance.

He continued: “They told me that they are very angry. They wanted and were confident that he was going to renew. The Emir is very upset.”

However, Los Blancos still are said to be “hopeful” of completing the signing this summer.

Both they and PSG are said to be in agreement over doing the deal, although they remain £68million apart when it comes to the fee.

  • Fowler named manager of Saudi second-tier side Al-Qadsiah

Fowler named manager of Saudi second-tier side Al-Qadsiah

Renowned Liverpool legend aged 48, Robbie Fowler has taken up the managerial position at Al-Qadsiah, a second-tier team in Saudi Arabia.

This marks his return to the sidelines after a two-year hiatus since departing from Indian club East Bengal.

Al-Qadsiah, Fowler’s new team, ended the previous season in the 11th position in the Saudi Second Division, trailing the top four teams by a significant margin of 23 points, all of whom were promoted.

Fowler becomes the latest high-profile figure to head to the Gulf state, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante recently joining Pro League clubs.

His former Reds team-mate Steven Gerrard turned down the opportunity to manage top-tier side Al-Ettifaq but Fowler has opted for a move to the Middle East.

It is the Liverpudlian’s fourth job in management, having spent a season in Thailand as player-manager of Muangthong United before taking over at Brisbane Roar in Australia seven years later.

A well-travelled managerial career then took him to India with East Bengal, where he spent the 2020-21 season in charge prior to a brief spell coaching at Oxford.

He will hope to gain further experience in the dugout and fire his new club to the top flight at the first time of asking.

As a player, Fowler is regarded as one of English football’s all-time great strikers, scoring 162 goals in 379 Premier League appearances.

  • Espanyol suffer stadium ban after fans chased Barcelona players into tunnel

Espanyol suffer stadium ban after fans chased Barcelona players into tunnel

After fans chased Barcelona players into the tunnel at the Stage Front Stadium in May, Espanyol was told to play their first two games of the upcoming season behind closed doors.

Following Barca’s 4-2 victory, which gave Xavi Hernandez’s team its first LaLiga title since 2019, hundreds of supporters broke through the security fence and entered the pitch.

Espanyol have said they will appeal the “disproportionate” punishment, which is due to affect their first two home games in the second division next season following relegation from LaLiga.

“As we have reiterated on multiple occasions, this type of behaviour has no place in football or society and we will continue to act in the most forceful way to eradicate it,” a statement said.

“However, we feel that unreasonable criteria has been applied, inconsistent with other cases. It affects the entire club and season ticket holders from all sectors of the stadium.

“We consider the sanction disproportionate and, therefore, in defence of our legitimate interests and those of our fans, we will exhaust all means of appeal and protection at our disposal.”

Tension was running high before the Catalan derby, with Barca aiming to win the league at their cross-city rivals and Espanyol needing the points to avoid relegation.

After claiming the three points which sealed the LaLiga title, the Barcelona players remained on the pitch for several minutes, celebrating in the centre circle.

Espanyol supporters then broke on to the pitch and charged at them, with the Barca players sprinting for the tunnel, which they reached without any major incidents.

Espanyol fans remained on the pitch, though, chanting anti-Barca songs before turning their attention to the directors’ box and demanding president Chen Yansheng’s resignation.

The mood against the club’s Chinese owner has soured in recent years following two separate relegations from LaLiga.

They secured an immediate return to the top-flight after dropping into the second division in 2020 but, after two years back in the elite, they were relegated again last month following a draw against Valencia on the penultimate day of the season.

Dutch player with Ghanaian descent, Memphis Depay, was seen training in Accra on Kwadwo Asamoah’s new mini-stadium.

Memphis Depay takes a break from his charitable effort in Ghana to visit the SMAC pitch.

The striker was also practising at the La McDan Astro-turf.

The Kwadwo Asamoah’s mini-stadium which is a project by the former Inter and Juventus player is almost nearing completion.

The mini-stadium will be the venue for the academy known as SMAC.

Kwadwo Asamoah teamed up with renowned football agent Oliver Arthur to construct a mini-stadium and nurture talents in Ghana.

Memphis Depay arrived in Ghana for holidays along with fellow Dutch teammate, Georginio Wijnaldum.

The two were spotted watching boxing in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

  • Germany facing increased pressure after ‘premature’ elimination of their under-21 national team at the group stage

Germany facing increased pressure after ‘premature’ elimination of their under-21 national team at the group stage

After a succession of poor performances over the previous few months, pressure on hosts Germany to perform well at Euro 2024 has increased significantly. But, with the nation’s shocking group stage exit from the under-21 European Championship, the pressure increased even more.

Germany’s junior squad, which will be crowned European champions in 2021, had been eager to demonstrate a stronger side than the senior team in recent matches, but on Wednesday, they were defeated 2-0 by England in Georgia, exiting the group stage with just one point from three games.

They also miss out on a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“England were at least one level better than us,” said Germany under-21 coach Antonio Di Salvo. “They have a lot of players with potential and an amazing depth in the squad.

“We had imagined it all differently,” he added.

With the German fans dreading hearing those same words at Euro 2024 all eyes shift to Germany coach Hansi Flick.

His team look nowhere near the level required for next year’s Euros when they will seek redemption for a disappointing five-year run.

Germany drew 3-3 with visiting Ukraine, lost 1-0 to Poland in Warsaw and 2-0 at home to Colombia in friendlies earlier this month, confirming their bad form since before last December’s World Cup first-round elimination in Qatar.

When Flick took over in September 2021 the Germans were in a slump, having been eliminated at the group stage of the 2018 World Cup — at the time their earliest exit in more than 80 years — and lost to England in the last 16 at Euro 2020.

An old video has resurfaced on social media where Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen named former Chelsea and Ivory Coast superstar Didier Drogba as his role model stressing that watching him back then was a tonic.

There have been many transfer rumours about Osimhen since he helped Napoli win the Scudetto after 33 years and won the heart of the club’s fans.

Osimhen netted 26 league goals last season and became the first African to win the Golden Boot award in Serie A, which was an incredible achievement.

That has led to many clubs in Europe showing interest in the services of the former Lille strongman.

Osimhen is currently in Lagos where he has been spending his holidays after a successful season in Italy.

According to the video on Twitter, Osimhen who was 16-year-old then was asked to clear the air about him being wanted by Tottenham.

    Osimhen rejects Tottenham’s move

”I really don’t know anything about the Tottenham speculation and I am not going to the club. Didier Drogba is my role model, he is someone I watched on the television for many years.

”If I would join a side in England, it will be Chelsea because they are among the biggest sides in the world.”

Mourinho rejects huge €30M per season offer to coach Saudi Club

Following his rejection of a huge offer from top Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal to stay with the Serie A club, Jose Mourinho has reaffirmed his allegiance to AS Roma.

The Portuguese manager declined the invitation to join the Saudi Pro League at this point in his career after leading Roma to the European Conference League championship in his debut campaign.

According to Sportskeeda, football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, claimed that Al-Hilal offered Mourinho a whopping €30 million per season, which the Portuguese manager rejected.

The ex-Real Madrid and Manchester United manager, a two-time UEFA Champions League winner, turned down the proposal by the top Saudi Pro League club as he is focused on his job at Roma.

Mourinho, who still has one year left on his Roma contract, aims to continue building on the success he achieved with the Italian outfit after leading them to the Europa League final last season.

    Mourinho gets 10-day suspension

Meanwhile, the Italian Football Authority have punished Mourinho with a 10-day suspension for his remarks criticising referee, Daniele Chiffi, the BBC reports.

The Portuguese tactician was also fined £43,000 for his remarks after Roma’s Mehmet Zeki Celik was sent off six minutes into stoppage time at the end of a 1-1 Serie A draw.

Last year was difficult for Mourinho on the sidelines: he was shown three red cards for altercations with referees, including one from Chiffi in Roma’s defeat to Atalanta in September.

Man Utd intensifies interest in André Onana

In light of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding David de Gea’s future at the club, sources have told ESPN that Manchester United has increased their interest in Andre Onana.

Before making a formal offer to Inter Milan, United is in discussions with Onana’s representatives.

The Cameroon goalkeeper is valued at between £40 million ($50.62m) and £50m by the Serie A side and Ten Hag knows Onana well after their time together at Ajax.

Meanwhile, De Gea will officially become a free agent on Friday when his Old Trafford contract ends.

Sources have told ESPN that an agreement to extend his stay could still be reached after June 30 — the last day of De Gea’s existing deal — but there is no guarantee that the Spaniard will play again for the club he joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

Talks between the two parties “remain open” and a source close to the negotiations has said “both sides are reflecting” before making their next move.

Manager Erik ten Hag has insisted publicly that he wants De Gea to stay, although the club have worked to drastically reduce his £375,000-a-week wages.

United sources have denied a report that the club backtracked on a contract extension after De Gea had already signed it himself.

As well as Onana, United are also monitoring other goalkeepers including Brentford’s David Raya and Porto’s Diogo Costa.

Sources have told ESPN that once there is clarity over the goalkeeper situation, Dean Henderson will be allowed to move to Nottingham Forest in a permanent deal.

Henderson impressed on loan at the City Ground last season and manager Steve Cooper is keen to have him back as Forest prepare for a second season in the Premier League.

N’Golo Kante buys Belgium club Royal Excelsior

Former Chelsea star, N’Golo Kante, is set to become the owner of Belgian third division side Royal Excelsior Virton.

On July 1, current owner Flavio Becca will officially transfer ownership of the club to the French star. The club has confirmed this news through a statement on their official website, using the slogans ‘Together, always higher’ and ‘Small town, big dreams.’

Becca took over the club in 2018, and under his ownership, they experienced immediate success by earning promotion to the second division for the first time in their history.

In the subsequent season, they narrowly missed out on promotion to the top division, finishing in second place. While Royal Excelsior suffered relegation from the second division in the 2022-23 season, the club is in a financially stable position with no debts. A new board of directors will be appointed soon.

The club statement revealed that Becca is delighted to pass on ownership to Kante.

“Flavio is obviously extremely happy to be able to hand over the keys of the club to N’Golo Kanté, a high-class player, not only for his footballing qualities but also and above all for his unanimously recognized human qualities.”

  • “Chewing gums” contain cancer causing agent – WHO

“Chewing gums” contain cancer causing agent – WHO

Cancer research agency of the World Health Organization (WHO) is reportedly going to classify the artificial sweetener aspartame as a potential carcinogen.

Aspartame, one of the most widely used artificial sweeteners globally, is expected to be given this classification next month.

This decision will create a contentious situation, pitting the food industry and regulators against the global health body.

The Reuters news agency has reported these developments.

Aspartame, used in products from Coca-Cola diet sodas to Mars’ Extra chewing gum and some Snapple drinks, will be listed in July as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” for the first time by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the World Health Organization’s (WHO) cancer research arm, the sources said.

The IARC ruling, finalised earlier this month after a meeting of the group’s external experts, is intended to assess whether something is a potential hazard or not, based on all the published evidence.

It does not take into account how much of a product a person can safely consume. This advice for individuals comes from a separate WHO expert committee on food additives, known as JECFA (the Joint WHO and Food and Agriculture Organization’s Expert Committee on Food Additives), alongside determinations from national regulators.

However, similar IARC rulings in the past for different substances have raised concerns among consumers about their use, led to lawsuits, and pressured manufacturers to recreate recipes and swap to alternatives.

That has led to criticism that the IARC’s assessments can be confusing to the public.

JECFA, the WHO committee on additives, is also reviewing aspartame use this year. Its meeting began at the end of June and it is due to announce its findings on the same day that the IARC makes public its decision – on July 14.

Since 1981, JECFA has said aspartame is safe to consume within accepted daily limits. For example, an adult weighing 60 kg (132 pounds) would have to drink between 12 and 36 cans of diet soda – depending on the amount of aspartame in the beverage – every day to be at risk. Its view has been widely shared by national regulators, including in the United States and Europe.

An IARC spokesperson said both the IARC and JECFA committees’ findings were confidential until July, but added they were “complementary”, with IARC’s conclusion representing “the first fundamental step to understand carcinogenicity”.

The additives committee “conducts risk assessment, which determines the probability of a specific type of harm (e.g., cancer) to occur under certain conditions and levels of exposure.”

However, industry and regulators fear that holding both processes at around the same time could be confusing, according to letters from U.S. and Japanese regulators seen by Reuters.

“We kindly ask both bodies to coordinate their efforts in reviewing aspartame to avoid any confusion or concerns among the public,” Nozomi Tomita, an official from Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, wrote in a letter dated March 27 to WHO’s deputy director general, Zsuzsanna Jakab.

The letter, reviewed by Reuters, also called for the conclusions of both bodies to be released on the same day, as is now happening. The Japanese mission in Geneva, where the WHO is based, did not respond to a request for comment.

    DEBATE
The IARC’s rulings can have huge impact. In 2015, its committee concluded that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic”. Years later, even as other bodies like the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) contested this assessment, companies were still feeling the effects of the decision. Germany’s Bayer in 2021 lost its third appeal against U.S. court verdicts that awarded damages to customers blaming their cancers on use of its glyphosate-based weedkillers.

The IARC’s decisions have also faced criticism for sparking needless alarm over hard to avoid substances or situations. It has previously put working overnight and consuming red meat into its “probably cancer-causing” class, and using mobile phones as “possibly cancer-causing”, similar to aspartame.

“IARC is not a food safety body and their review of aspartame is not scientifically comprehensive and is based heavily on widely discredited research,” Frances Hunt-Wood, the secretary general of the International Sweeteners Association (ISA), said.

The body, whose members include Mars Wrigley, a Coca-Cola unit and Cargill, said it had “serious concerns with the IARC review, which may mislead consumers”.

Aspartame has been extensively studied for years. Last year, an observational study in France among 100,000 adults showed that people who consumed larger amounts of artificial sweeteners – including aspartame – had a slightly higher cancer risk.

It followed a study from the Ramazzini Institute in Italy in the early 2000s, which reported that some cancers in mice and rats were linked to aspartame.

However, the first study could not prove that aspartame caused the increased cancer risk, and questions have been raised about the methodology of the second study, including by EFSA, which assessed it.

Aspartame is authorised for use globally by regulators who have reviewed all the available evidence, and major food and beverage makers have for decades defended their use of the ingredient. The IARC said it had assessed 1,300 studies in its June review.

Recent recipe tweaks by soft drinks giant Pepsico demonstrate the struggle the industry has when it comes to balancing taste preferences with health concerns. Pepsico removed aspartame from sodas in 2015, bringing it back a year later, only to remove it again in 2020.

Listing aspartame as a possible carcinogen is intended to motivate more research, said the sources close to the IARC, which will help agencies, consumers and manufacturers draw firmer conclusions.

But it will also likely ignite debate once again over the IARC’s role, as well as the safety of sweeteners more generally.

Last month, the WHO published guidelines advising consumers not to use non-sugar sweeteners for weight control. The guidelines caused a furore in the food industry, which argues they can be helpful for consumers wanting to reduce the amount of sugar in their diet.

The incident has evoked nationwide concern, leading to widespread expressions of indignation, condolences, and calls for justice.

French President Emmanuel Macron described the young man’s death as “inexplicable and inexcusable.” The tragic event also resulted in unrest in several towns surrounding Paris, with Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin reporting 31 arrests, 25 injured police officers, and 40 burned cars during overnight protests.

“I hurt for my France,” Mbappe, who grew up in the Paris suburb of Bondy, wrote Wednesday in a Twitter message accompanied by broken heart emoticons.

“Unacceptable situation. All my thoughts go to the family and loved ones of Naël, this little angel gone much too soon.”

The tensions focused around the suburban area of Nanterre, where lawyers say the teenager was killed Tuesday during a traffic check.

The police officer suspected of firing on him was detained and faces potential manslaughter charges, according to the Nanterre prosecutor’s office.

The Nanterre neighborhood where Naël lived remained on edge Wednesday morning, with police on guard around the regional administration and burned car wreckage and overturned garbage bins still visible in some areas.

Bouquets of orange and yellow roses were tied to the post where the car crashed after the shooting, on Nanterre’s Nelson Mandela Square.

Naël’s mother appealed online for a silent march on Thursday in her son’s honour, near the scene of his death.

Mike Maignan, another French international player, tweeted about the sense of injustice he felt.

“A bullet in the head…It’s always for the same people that being in the wrong leads to death,” he wrote. Maignan’s France teammate Jules Kounde criticised the media coverage of the teenager’s death.

“As if this latest police blunder wasn’t enough, the 24-hour news channels are taking advantage of it by making a big fuss,” he wrote. “The ‘journalists’ ask ‘questions’ with the sole aim of distorting the truth, criminalizing the victim and finding extenuating circumstances where none exist.

“An age-old method for masking the real problem. Why don’t we turn off the TV and find out what’s going on?”

Darmanin said 1,200 police were deployed overnight and 2,000 would be out in force Wednesday in the Paris region and around other big cities to “maintain order.”

Videos purported to be of the incident were “extremely shocking,” Darmanin said, pledging a full investigation.

The images show two police officers leaning into the driver’s side window of a yellow car before the vehicle pulls away as one officer fires into the window. The car is later seen crashed into a post nearby.

Deadly use of firearms is less common in France than in the United States.

Tuesday’s death unleashed anger in Nanterre and other towns, including around housing projects where many residents struggle with poverty and discrimination and feel police abuse is under-punished.

A lawyer for Naël’s family, Yassine Bouzrou, told The Associated Press they want the police officer pursued for murder instead of manslaughter and want the investigation handed to a different region because they fear Nanterre investigators won’t be impartial.

The lawyers rebutted a reported statement by the police that their lives were in danger because the driver had threatened to run them over.

The government will hold a security meeting Wednesday afternoon to discuss next steps, Darmanin said.

The victim was wounded by a gunshot and died at the scene, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

A passenger in the car was briefly detained and released, and police are searching for another passenger, who fled.

Several people have died or sustained injuries at the hands of French police in recent years, prompting demands for more accountability.

France also saw protests against racial profiling and other injustice in the wake of George Floyd’s killing by police in Minnesota.

Retired Asamoah Gyan says “his heart is at peace” after recognition in parliament

Expressing his gratitude, retired striker Asamoah Gyan has stated that his heart is now at peace after being recognized by Ghanaian Members of Parliament last week.

The celebration by the lawmakers acknowledged his significant contributions to Ghanaian football and the development of sports in the country.

Gyan officially announced his retirement from football on Tuesday, June 20.

Gyan who paid a working visit to the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Frank Annor-Dompreh, on Monday (26 June) told the media that, “as a Ghanaian and for all that I have done for this country now I will say my heart is at peace.”

Annor-Dompreh praised Gyan and asked for a national monument in his honour.

    Humbled with gesture

Baby Jet, as he is affectionately called, said he was humbled by the recognition of Annor-Dompreh.

“Honestly, I was very honoured to hear what went on in Parliament. For me honestly, I haven’t witnessed something like this before. I didn’t expect it and I felt some way.

“Since childhood till now, I have never seen Parliament discuss a player before so I feel very honoured and appreciative,” the former Black Stars forward said.

The 37-year-old former Sunderland arrow head said he has been disrespected on several occasions despite his dedication to mother Ghana.

“There was a lot of disrespect. Sometimes I go on social media and a lot of disrespect and I feel like I am one of those guys who put Ghana on the map.

“The masses can also confirm. But seeing what went on in Parliament, I’m now beginning to understand and feel appreciated,” Gyan said.

    Celebrating more heroes

Annor-Dompreh added that there is the need to celebrate heroes like Gyan who have contributed to Ghana’s feats.

He said: “I feel we can do better, whatever we do to him or for him will set the tone and going into the future, what we should do to our heroes as a nation.

And as the saying goes, ‘a nation that doesn’t celebrate its heroes is not worth dying for.’ I am particularly elated that we set the tone and we got almost the entire house agreeing to what I suggested.”

“If you go to England, the way they celebrate David Beckham, you will be amazed. So, I think not just the personality of Asamoah Gyan but our traits and the tendency for us to also celebrate people who have sacrificed for our country.”

Man United, Chelsea racing for Brighton’s Caicedo

Chelsea is preparing to begin negotiations with Brighton regarding the potential transfer of midfielder Moises Caicedo, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues are confident that reaching personal terms with the 21-year-old will not be a problem, as Caicedo is already eager to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

During the January transfer window, Caicedo attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.

However, he opted to remain at the Amex Stadium and signed a new contract, with the understanding that he would be permitted to explore a transfer if interest in his services resurfaced during the summer.

Competition is expected to arrive from Manchester United, with Sky Sports reporting that the club are also interested in the Ecuador international.

Previous reports have indicated that it would take an offer of around £80 million ($101.1m) to persuade manager Roberto De Zerbi to part ways with his star midfielder, who played in 37 of 38 Premier League matches last season.

NPP’s lost in Assin North due to vote-buying – Global Info Analytics

Executive Director of Global Info Analytics Mussa K. Dankwah, has identified the key factors that contributed to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the Assin North by-election.

According to Dankwah, prior to the election, their latest poll indicated that the NPP candidate, Charles Opoku, was leading by a narrow margin.

However, in an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Dankwah highlighted that the ostentatious display of wealth by certain NPP members and the practice of vote-buying were among the factors that ultimately led to the party’s defeat.

“It was a combination of many factors: the perception that they are persecuting James Gyakye Quayson, the fact that they left development projects in Kumawu [uncompleted], and they hurriedly came to Assin North and another factor was the sheer opulence and sprinkling of money in the constituency.

It made some people very angry,” the pollster told sit-in host of Eyewitness News, Nii Larte Lartey, on Wednesday.

The by-election became necessary after Gyakye Quayson was kicked out of Parliament for having dual citizenship prior to filing his forms to contest in the 2020 elections in the Assin North constituency.

Stop developmental projects in Assin North – NPP Youth Organiser tells Akufo-Addo after by-election defeat

Youth Organiser of the Obuasi West Constituency,in the Ashanti region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bright Nyampong, has called for the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration to take action against the residents of Assin North for voting against the ruling party’s parliamentary candidate in the recent by-election.

Expressing his disappointment, Nyampong expressed his concern that the people of Assin North have failed to acknowledge and appreciate the developmental projects implemented by the government in their constituency.

Speaking in a panel discussion on Wontumi TV on June 27, 2023, he emphasized that the residents’ decision to vote against the NPP candidate sends a message that they do not value the progress and advancements initiated by the government.

He then suggested that the president should redirect all construction materials in Assin North to the Ashanti region and focus on developing the area, as the people there are unwavering in their support for the NPP.

“We will plead with the president that the people of Assin North have proven that development doesn’t count in voting, so we plead with them, with all due respect, the Ashanti region needs the development.

“Because for us, whether rain or shine, we will vote for NPP and every candidate it presents, so we plead that they should go and construct the Kwabre road, they should construct the Manso road, we plead the Suame interchange, they should do it for us.”

He expressed frustration and labeled the decision of Assin North voters as ungratefulness, claiming that they do not appreciate the party’s efforts and as a result, they should be punished.

“They should take all the machines from Assin North … Kwabre people need them because they will vote for NPP candidate, Suame also needs them because they will vote for NPP candidate. We have seen that Assin North people don’t like development. This is (so) ungratefulness, and I think the government should pay them well for that.

“It is about time that we should be fair, because the Ashanti region has always been grateful to the NPP party. I plead with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s government that if they are ready to break the 8, and it is not about a mere slogan then they should focus on the Ashanti region.”

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission of Ghana declared James Gyakye Quayson as the Member of Parliament-elect for the Assin North constituency on June 27, 2023, following the conclusion of the by-election. Quayson, who contested on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), emerged victorious with a significant margin.

According to the Electoral Commission’s announcement, James Gyakye Quayson garnered a total of 17,245 votes, representing 57.56% of the total votes cast. His closest contender, Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 12,630 votes, accounting for 42.15% of the votes.

Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party Ghana (LPG) secured 87 votes, which represented 0.29% of the overall tally.

The by-election in Assin North was held to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant following a legal battle that questioned Quayson’s eligibility to hold office due to dual citizenship concerns.

Messi reunites with Former Barcelona coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino at Inter Miami

Former manager of FC Barcelona, Gerardo Martino, been named the new head coach of Inter Miami, a team in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Known by the nickname ‘Tata,’ Martino takes over from Phil Neville, a former Manchester United defender, and will have the opportunity to work alongside Lionel Messi, who recently joined Inter Miami as a marquee signing.

This will be the third time that Martino and Messi collaborate, having previously worked together at Barcelona and as part of the Argentine national team, according to Al Jazeera.

    Who is Gerardo Martino?

Gerardo Martino is a revered football tactician known for his astute understanding of the game. His impressive career has predominantly taken place in Latin America, as well as coaching the prestigious Spanish La Liga club, Barcelona.

With a managerial career spanning over two decades, Martino brings a wealth of experience and success to the club, having overseen more than 400 games across various leagues, including MLS and on the global stage.

Among his accomplishments, the 60-year-old led Atlanta United to MLS Cup success and won multiple league titles in Paraguay while guiding the Catalan giants to Spanish Super Cup glory.

    What did the club say?

Following the announcement of the 60-year-old as the new coach of the club, managing owner Jorge Mas said in a statement via Inter Miami’s website:

“We are very happy to be able to welcome Tata to Inter Miami. We feel he is a coach who matches our ambitions as a club and we’re optimistic about what we can accomplish together,”

“Tata has coached at the highest levels, and we believe that experience will be hugely beneficial to us as we aim to compete for titles here.”

Martino, who has a wealth of experience in coaching, having previously coached the Mexican, Paraguay and Argentina national teams, is expected to turn the dwindling fortunes of the club around.

“Tata is a highly respected figure in our sport whose track record speaks for itself,” said Co-Owner David Beckham. “We are confident that his achievements in the game and experience as a head coach will inspire our team, excite our fans, and look forward to seeing the impact he will have on and off the field.”

    Messi happy with Miami move

Sports Brief also reported that Lionel Messi has revealed he is excited to start a new phase of his career after ending his stint in Europe to move to the MLS with Inter Miami.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was present in his home country to honour Argentine legend Juan Roman Riquelme, who had his farewell game as Argentina XI took on Boca Juniors XI.

  • Tenure of Man Utd goalkeeper David de Gea seems to be approaching its final stages

Tenure of Man Utd goalkeeper David de Gea seems to be approaching its final stages

Petr Cech’s transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal was hailed by his former captain John Terry, who believed that the 33-year-old goalkeeper would add as many as 15 points per season to his new club.

In May, Cech received the prestigious recognition of being inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame, cementing his status as the most accomplished goalkeeper in the league’s history.

With an impressive tally of 202 clean sheets in the competition, including a remarkable 163 for Chelsea, Cech’s record is expected to endure for generations to come.

But, still a year younger than when Cech made that switch, where would David de Gea rank on the list of goalkeepers to have graced the English game?

In reference to Terry’s quote, some Manchester United fans may cruelly argue the Spaniard has similarly contributed to 15 points – but at his side’s expense.

In a career so far spanning 540 appearances in English football since arriving in 2011, De Gea has made 17 errors leading to goals in the Premier League – the most by any Spanish goalkeeper in the competition’s history.

But given the sheer volume of games, is that a particularly high number?

If this is to prove his final week in English football, his 12-year stay at Old Trafford will be rather hard to define.

Last season brought the Golden Glove as well as breaking Peter Schmeichel’s clean-sheet record.

When De Gea received the award, Roy Keane – at the forefront of his detractors – told Sky Sports: “United had to improve from last year, they were so bad defensively.

“They’re all patting him on the back. I’d move him on quickly, De Gea. He’s not going to get United back lifting trophies, absolutely not.

United were bound to improve from last year so everyone patting him on the head is ridiculous. It’s his job.”

That much is true, but it is not as if those in front of him have exactly excelled on a consistent basis during a decade-long search for another Premier League title.

  • Declan Rice: Guardiola allegedly helping Arteta with transfer

Declan Rice: Guardiola allegedly helping Arteta with transfer

British-Nigerian football broadcaster, Eni Aluko, has sparked speculation among fans with a peculiar theory regarding Manchester City’s interest in signing Declan Rice.

As the highly skilled West Ham midfielder is expected to depart from the club this summer, both Arsenal and Manchester City are engaged in a battle to secure his services.

On Tuesday, June 27, Manchester City made a £90 million offer for Rice, which was promptly turned down by West Ham.

In fact, several reports have suggested West Ham have been left angered by the bid as they feel it was disrespectful on Manchester City’s end.

While the Citizens will certainly need to revamp their midfield after losing Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona, Aluko believes Pep Guardiola is not necessarily keen on signing Rice.

“I think there’s a lot of cat and mouse going on here,” She said as quoted on TalkSport.

“I don’t think Manchester City actually want to sign Declan Rice, I think what’s going on is Arteta has picked up the phone to Pep [Guardiola] and said ‘listen, Arsenal are going to do the incremental bid approach, if you put a higher bid in, that will push my owner.”

Aluko was then asked whether this was a tactic to get signings to be done quickly, to which she replied:

“For speed, but to also get the deal done. Because West Ham obviously want a set valuation, I think £120m.”

Despite losing Gundogan. City have all but completed the signing of Matteo Kovacic, who is set to join the club from Chelsea in a £25million deal.

Before joining Arsenal, Mikel Arteta was Guardiola’s number two at Manchester City and the two oversaw the success of the team for several years.

Guardiola famously got one over his friend last season as Arsenal surrendered an 8-point lead at the top to enable City to set themselves up for a treble triumph.

    Players set for summer switch

Sports Brief also reported on a list of big names set to make a move in the summer.

Clubs around the globe will be looking to offer the best deals to these free agents with the hope of eventually getting their signatures on the dotted lines of the contract papers.

The likes of Marco Asensio, Moussa Dembele and David De Gea all face uncertain futures and could make stunning transfers.

  • Tottenham officially announce signing of Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli

Tottenham officially announce signing of Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli

Tottenham have finalized the signing of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper has committed to a contract until 2028 with the North London club.

Upon his arrival, Vicario will don the No. 13 shirt. The transfer deal is rumored to be valued at approximately £16.4 million.

Having made 71 appearances for Empoli across various competitions in the past two seasons, Vicario garnered attention for his impressive record of eight penalty saves.

While he has received a call-up to the Italy national team, he is yet to earn a senior international cap.

He is known for his ability at playing out from the back and should suit new boss Ange Postecoglou’s style.

Spurs were in the market for a long-term successor to captain Hugo Lloris, who is approaching the final 12 months of his deal and is keen for a new challenge.

Brentford No1 David Raya was their top choice but the Bees’ £40m valuation proved a stumbling block.

Vicario’s chances of earning a starting spot will depend on Lloris’ future, with Fraser Forster also signed up until the end of next season.

He is Postecoglou’s second signing after Dejan Kulusevski’s loan move was made permanent.

Tottenham are also believed to be closing in on a deal to bring James Maddison back to the Premier League following Leicester’s relegation.

And talisman Harry Kane is the subject of strong interest from Bayern Munich, although the German giants’ initial approach is thought to have come up well short of Daniel Levy’s asking price.

Spurs are looking to bounce back from a poor 2022-23 campaign, which saw them finish eighth in the Premier League and miss out on European football.

Messi, Ronaldo GOAT debate: French President Emmanuel Macron names his

French President Emmanuel Macron has added his perspective to the long-standing debate regarding who is the superior footballer between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

For more than 15 years, this rivalry has sparked intense discussions within the football community.

Fans, experts, players, and even politicians have eagerly engaged in the ongoing debate surrounding these remarkable athletes.

“I prefer Cristiano Ronaldo,” he said, as quoted by Sportskeeda.

Displaying a consistent penchant for engaging in popular sports discussions, the French leader also openly expressed his determination to employ all available means to persuade Kylian Mbappe to remain at Paris Saint-Germain beyond the current summer transfer window, Goal reports.

Perhaps Macron would also use the same tactics to lure Ronaldo to Ligue 1 in future.

    Messi edges Ronaldo in H2H

Sports Brief also reported that Messi has the edge over Ronaldo in terms of goals scored across Europe’s top five leagues, as the Argentine also departs the continent.

In a move that all but confirms the end of an era for football, the former Paris Saint-Germain star will debut for Inter Miami in the American MLS as soon as next month.

His major move to the US top flight comes just six months after his long-term rival, Ronaldo, sourly parted ways with Manchester United for Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr.

    Macron makes vow about Mbappe

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on French President, Emmanuel Macron vowing to help Mbappe star in the country’s capital, amid continued reports the star will leave this season.

The leader’s vow follows a formal letter from Mbappe to PSG about his decision not to activate his one-year contract extension clause, thereby allowing him to leave for free in 2024.

In response to the ongoing transfer saga, President Macron has hinted at his potential intervention in an effort to persuade the PSG superstar to consider staying in Paris longer.

Sudan: Ceasefire has very little meaning – Sudanese cry out as fighting mar Eid festivities

The 24-hour ceasefire that was agreed upon in Sudan has been violated, casting a shadow over the unique Eid al-Adha celebrations for the war-stricken people of Sudan, who have endured over 70 days of conflict.

Reports from residents indicate that there were heavy gunfire sounds in certain areas of the capital, Khartoum, early on Wednesday.

Additionally, the Sudanese army launched artillery and air strikes against positions held by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Negotiations between the conflicting parties are currently suspended, prolonging the uncertainty and tension in the region.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent, Hiba Morgan, reporting from Omdurman, a city situated across the Nile from Khartoum, observed a lack of the usual festive atmosphere associated with Eid, as very few people were seen on the streets.

Many fear the 17th ceasefire to be announced since the start of the conflict on April 15 is no guarantee of their safety after violations of the previous ceasefires.

The heads of the army and RSF each announced a unilateral truce on Tuesday for Eid.

“A ceasefire has very little meaning because, again, this Eid al-Adha [the Sudanese] can’t really celebrate,” Morgan said, adding that the peacetime mood of Eid has instead been replaced by sadness from people having lost family members or being displaced due to the conflict.

Many do not have the financial capabilities to celebrate the holiday either.

Thousands fleeing the conflict and waiting along the border with Egypt or those displaced from the western region of Darfur into neighboring Chad are not celebrating the festival after the ordeals they have been through.

Sudan’s conflict has killed at least 2,000 civilians and wounded many more.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) estimated almost 2 million people have been displaced internally and more than 600,000 have fled to neighboring countries.

Peace talks brokered by the United States and Saudi Arabia have failed to make progress, and fighting has intensified in recent weeks as a result.

  • Yvonne seems to have contradicted herself in an attempt to respond to sarkodie’s ‘diss’ song

Yvonne seems to have contradicted herself in an attempt to respond to sarkodie’s ‘diss’ song

Actress and movie producer, Yvonne Nelson, seems to have contradicted herself in her efforts to counter Sarkodie’s narrative regarding the abortion she had in 2010, which the rapper referenced in a song released on June 28, 2023.

In her book titled ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,’ Yvonne had accused Sarkodie of impregnating her in 2010, refusing to take responsibility, and seemingly insisting on her having an abortion.

However, in Sarkodie’s response captured in the track ‘Try Me,’ he denied asking Yvonne Nelson to terminate the pregnancy, stating that it was solely her decision.

He claimed that he had advised her to keep the baby, but she prioritized her education over the child.

These differing accounts present a contradiction in Yvonne Nelson’s statements concerning the circumstances surrounding the abortion.

Yvonne has since the release of the song been tweeting, expressing her disgust with the posture and lyrics of Sarkodie as she said the rapper is rubbishing her pain.

One of Yvonne’s tweets, however, appears to contradict what she said on page 85 of her book, per observation.

The actress said in her tweet that it was untrue she was in school at the time; hence, Sarkodie’s claim that she told him she wanted to focus on her education was false.

Yvonne’s tweet read: “Michael, you claim I was desperate to abort because I needed to complete school. In 2010 when I became pregnant, I had completed the university. Anybody can verify this. I wasn’t in school and you know it. If you want to lie, find a logical lie.”

However, in Chapter 7 of Yvonne Nelson’s book which talks about her ban by movie producers, the actress mentioned on page 85 that when she was banned, she was in her final year at the university. She mentioned that the ban, coupled with the pregnancy made the circumstance tough.

“I must admit it was a tough year. I was in my final year at the university. I was banned from acting. I was pregnant and definitely was not prepared to host another human being,” the first three sentences on page 85 read.

Sleeping sickness: Biting flies mistake the colour blue for food – Research

Groundbreaking research into the behavior of biting flies offers promising insights for Africa’s battle against sleeping sickness.

Scientists have discovered that biting flies are drawn to the color blue, mistaking it for the hue of the animals they typically prey upon.

The department of life sciences at Aberystwyth University in the United Kingdom spearheaded an entomological field study to investigate the specific attraction of these flies to the color blue.

As a result, traps worldwide are now being manufactured in this particular color to enhance their efficacy.

This newfound understanding of the flies’ color preference could prove invaluable in the fight against sleeping sickness in Africa, potentially leading to more effective trapping and control methods to combat these disease-carrying insects.

By developing artificial neural networks that mimic the visual processing in the brain of biting flies, researchers came to the conclusion they published.

Flies caught in blue traps were more likely to not have eaten .recently, suggesting they had been on the lookout for hosts.

The research, which has also been peer-reviewed and published in the Proceedings of Royal Society B journal, also cast doubt on a previous theory that blue objects represented shade to the flies.

The new findings may mark a turning point in the fight against diseases endemic in sub-Saharan Africa that remain without treatment and are generally fatal.

The team’s conclusions could be key in combating diseases like human African trypanosomiasis – also known as sleeping sickness – and controlling stable flies, which primarily attack cattle and horses.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 98 percent of reported cases are caused by the parasite Trypanosoma brucei gambiense, which is found in 24 countries in Western and Central Africa.

The second form, Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense, accounts for less than 2 percent of cases and is found in 13 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Whoever will be Ghana’s next president will come from me – Owusu Bempah

Leader and founder of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev. Owusu Bempah, is confident that for one to become president in Ghana, it would be determined “here”, pointing his hands to the ground.

He said this while addressing his church in an attempt to distance himself from some allegations in a recently leaked audio tape linking him to being an accomplice of the current president, Akufo-Addo, in murdering a man at Tema.

“Whether you like it or not, whoever will be Ghana’s next president will be determined here,” he said in Twi.

He acknowledged, however, that aside from the aforementioned allegation, every other claim heard in the leaked tape was his own.

In the leaked recording, Prophet Owusu Bempah is heard issuing threatening statements towards the current Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, following his arrests and perceived mistreatment by the Ghana Police Service.

Prophet Owusu Bempah went on to allege that people have lost their lives, suffered accidents, and endured amputations as sacrifices, all of which were aimed at making Akufo-Addo president.

On his part, Dampare wouldn’t have become president if he hadn’t helped him.
Prophet Owusu Bempah claimed that but for his involvement and sacrifices, President Akufo-Addo would not have become president.

The recording also includes instructions for an unidentified person to deliver the message to the IGP, involving specific questions about past interactions with President Akufo-Addo and urging him to seek information from media personality Captain Smart.

Former Atsu clubs complete orphanage school player started

With the assistance of Chelsea, Everton, and Newcastle United, the construction of the orphanage school building initiated by the late former Ghanaian winger, Christian Atsu, has been successfully finished.

Tragically, Atsu lost his life in February during the destructive earthquake that affected Turkey and Syria.

Prior to his untimely passing, the former Chelsea winger had initiated the establishment of the orphanage school, leaving the project unfinished.

However, thanks to the support from his former clubs Chelsea, Everton, and Newcastle United, the construction has now been completed, ensuring that Atsu’s vision of providing a school for orphans has been realized.

However, his former Premier League clubs and other charity organisations came together to ensure the project saw the light of day.

“A lot of people reached out to us, which was a good sign,” said the Director of Becky’s Foundation, Seth Asiedu on Twitter.

“I think it is through that a lot of people came around to help us. With special reference to Arms Around the Child, we also had support from Chelsea, Everton, and Newcastle United, and Sono Global and some other individual donors from overseas,” he added.

Atsu was laid to rest in his home country in March, a month after his body was recovered from the rubble of the collapsed apartment he was staying in.

He scored the winner in his last game for Hatayspor against Kasimpasa, as reported by GHANASoccernet.

    Danilo pays tribute to Atsu

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Juventus defender, Danilo paying tribute to Atsu after the Ghanaian winger passed away in the Turkey-Syria earthquake.

Atsu and the Brazilian were teammates together at Portuguese giants, FC Porto, with both having broken into the senior team in the same year.

Atsu was tragically killed following the disaster in the Asian country in February, which claimed the lives of over 40,000 people in Turkey and Syria.

Sports Brief also reported on Ghana and Hatayspor winger, Atsu being sadly found dead following an earthquake which struck Turkey and Syria.

  • Real Madrid’s Camavinga extends contract with club

Real Madrid’s Camavinga extends contract with club

Real Madrid’s midfielder, Eduardo Camavinga, has given his approval for a contract extension, which will place him among the group of players with release clauses surpassing one billion euros.

Currently, the French midfielder’s contract is set to expire in 2027, but he has agreed to an additional year extension, accompanied by a substantial salary increase as recognition for his exceptional performances.

Undoubtedly, Camavinga has established himself as one of Europe’s top players, showcasing remarkable progress since joining Real Madrid and earning widespread acclaim for his contributions on the field.

At the age of 20, the Frenchman has won all kinds of domestic trophies with Los Blancos, in addition to the Champions League in 2020/21.

According to reports from Marca, the Madrid hierarchy has deemed it fit to reward him with a new contract.

Last season was even more remarkable as Camavinga showcased his versatility to a greater degree by operating as a makeshift left-back.

It has been a window of extensions for the La Liga giants, with Toni Kroos, Dani Ceballos, and Luka Modric all penning new deals to confirm their commitment to the club.

Reports from Goal have also emerged that Madrid are on the verge of announcing Vinicius Junior’s new five-year extension, which has been in place for a long time.

The Brazilian winger enjoyed yet another stellar season last term, racking up 23 goals and 21 assists in all competitions as well as enhancing his status as the one of world’s top-most forwards.

    Vinicius to become top earner

Vinicius is set to become a top earner with the new deal, and his release clause has been set at €1 billion, similar to Camavinga’s new deal.

Los Merengues have so far signed Jude Bellingham, Joselu, and Fran Garcia in the summer transfer window, with Brahim Diaz also returning to the Spanish capital after his loan spell at AC Milan.

    Modric extends Real Madrid contract

Sports Brief earlier reported veteran midfielder, Luka Modric will stay at Madrid for another season after renewing his deal until June 2024.

Modric, 38, remains a key player for Madrid and decided to stay despite strong interest from Saudi Arabia.

  • Bayern Munich fans prefer Harry Kane over Napoli star Victor Osimhen

Bayern Munich fans prefer Harry Kane over Napoli star Victor Osimhen

Bayern Munich has expressed their interest in signing Harry Kane and reportedly made a verbal offer of £60 million with additional add-ons to Tottenham, which was turned down by the club.

Despite Tottenham’s reluctance to sell Kane, who has one year left on his contract, Bayern Munich and manager Thomas Tuchel seem determined to challenge the club’s stance and test their resolve.

The fans of the Bavaria club have made their stance clear on the choice of striker they deem fit to fill the void left behind by the departure of Robert Lewandowski.

    Bayern fans pick Kane

According to a poll carried out by Kicker, Bayern Munich fans would prefer to see their club sign Harry Kane over Victor Osimhen and any other striker this summer.

The poll, of which over two hundred and forty-two thousand fans participated (242.8K) indicated that 34% of fans would like to see Bayern Munich sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Kane over Randal Kolo Muani (18%) and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen (16%) followed by Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic (13%) and Werder Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug (11%).

After making an opening offer of €70m plus bonuses to Tottenham for Kane, which was rebuffed, Bayern Munich plan on submitting a new improved offer to sign England’s top scorer, who as reported by SkySports is reported to be interested in a move to the German champion.

With 12 months remaining on his current deal, it’s widely reported that the Premier League side are unlikely to accept anything less than €100m for Kane, who scored 30 goals in 38 league games last season.

Regarding the future of Napoli’s Osimhen, the Italian champions remain hopeful that the Nigerian forward will sign a contract extension with the club.

Bayern’s interest in Vlahovic has never materialised while Kolo Muani could yet remain at Eintracht Frankfurt beyond the summer.

    Madrid: Best option for Kane?

Sports Brief earlier reported that Real Madrid appears the most sensible transfer destination for Kane.

The Tottenham striker, who is set to run down his current contract if he is not sold, has been touted to be the best fit to fill the void created by the departure of Karim Benzema.

  • “I prefer a place where I am wanted” – Kalidou Koulibaly throws subtle jab at Chelsea after exit

“I prefer a place where I am wanted” – Kalidou Koulibaly throws subtle jab at Chelsea after exit

Following his departure from Stamford Bridge, Kalidou Koulibaly has taken a scathing swipe at Chelsea.

The Senegalese defender is part of a group of Chelsea players who have been transferred to Middle Eastern clubs this summer.

According to The Sun, Koulibaly finalized his £17 million move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, where he will be joining former Wolverhampton Wanderers player Ruben Neves.

This exit from the west London club comes just a year after Koulibaly joined Chelsea from Napoli for a fee of £30 million.

Koulibaly, who was once rated among the top defenders in Europe, failed to adapt at Stamford Bridge, as he managed just 23 Premier League appearances while being sent off only in his third match.

The 32-year-old has now fired a parting shot at Chelsea following his exit from the club.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, the Senegalese criticised Chelsea’s management and leadership, pointing out that he expected to be given more importance in the team.

“I had no guarantees to get regular playing time [at Chelsea].

I was always professional but I don’t like to sit on the bench doing nothing,” he explained.

“I prefer a place where I am wanted and at the centre of the project and can be an example for young players.

The Premier League is fantastic and there are great players.

“They [Chelsea] expected the Koulibaly of Napoli, but I think my season was not so bad.

I needed time and in one year I couldn’t prove what I wanted because of the coach’s and club’s choices,” he added.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Mateo Kovacic has opened up on his decision to dump Chelsea to seal a sensational summer transfer move to Manchester City.

The Croatian midfielder became City’s first signing of the summer after the Premier League champions agreed to pay Chelsea £25m plus £5m in add-ons for his signature.

  • Liverpool ready to rub shoulders with Madrid for Mbappe

Liverpool ready to rub shoulders with Madrid for Mbappe

Liverpool, the Premier League powerhouse, are preparing to challenge Real Madrid in the pursuit of Kylian Mbappe, according to Marca.

The 24-year-old forward’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is uncertain, and he is reportedly seeking an exit from France, with Real Madrid currently seen as the frontrunners for his signature.

However, in a surprising development, Liverpool has now emerged as a contender in the race, despite it potentially requiring a substantial investment of over £200 million for the Merseyside club.

Mbappe shot to stardom at Monaco before securing a move to the Ligue 1 champions in 2018 and winning the World Cup with his country the same year.

In 260 appearances for Les Parisiens, the 70-cap international has bagged 212 goals, making him the club’s top scorer ahead of Edinson Cavani.

And with just one year left on his deal at the Parc des Princes, PSG may look to offload their most valued player for a massive fee rather than lose him for free next year.

Liverpool could turn to Mbappe as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, who has just turned 31 and may be entering his final years at the top level.

It will be a tough task for Jurgen Klopp to pry one of Europe’s most wanted strikers away from the clutches of Madrid, but the appeal of the Premier League may be something to sway Mbappe’s decision.

  • Ancelotti finally settles contract dispute with Everton

Ancelotti finally settles contract dispute with Everton

Manager of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, has reached a resolution in his contract dispute with Everton in the High Court.

The Italian coach, who had a tenure of 18 months at Goodison Park from December 2019 to June 2021, finishing 12th and 10th in the Premier League before returning to the Bernabeu, had filed a case that was described in court records as being related to “general commercial contracts and arrangements”.

While there were limited details available regarding the exact nature of the claim, it has now been successfully resolved.

“Carlo Ancelotti and Everton Football Club have reached an amicable resolution to their dispute,” said John Mehrzad KC in a statement issued on behalf of the Real Madrid boss.

“Carlo has enduring respect and a deep affection for the club’s fans and wishes them and the club the very best for the future.

2023 U-23 AFCON: Coach blames stress for Morocco poor display

The head coach of the Black Meteors, Ibrahim Tanko, has attributed his team’s performance in their second group game against Morocco at the ongoing U-23 Africa Cup of Nations to fatigue.

Ghana faced a crushing defeat at the hands of the host nation, conceding five goals while only managing to score once.

Despite the 5-1 scoreline, the outcome of the game did not fully reflect the overall performance, as the Ghanaian team failed to deliver their best performance.

In contrast, Morocco displayed sharpness and effectiveness whenever they launched counterattacks.

Speaking after the game, Tanko revealed the time for recovery between the first game and the second was short as his players were tired.

“We had a day rest and they had two [days]. You could see from the game between Congo and Guinea how the scoreline was because Congo also had one day rest,” he said.

“We still have a chance in this tournament, we have a last game so we are going to prepare for that.”

The Black Meteors thought they were just within one reach against Morocco after Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s strike to make it 3-2.

But the goal was chalked off after VAR spotted the ball had first gone out of play before being brought back in the build-up to the goal.

“The performance of the referee, I can’t say much because we have the VAR, which is supporting them,” Tank added when quizzed about the officiating.

“All the decisions they take are okay so I think they are doing very well.”

Ghana will face Guinea in their last group game knowing that anything short of a win will see them exit the competition while ending any hopes of being at the 2024 Olympic Games.

  • Celta Vigo’s left-back, Javi Galan, set to join Atletico Madrid

Sources have confirmed to ESPN’s Rodrigo Faez, that Celta Vigo’s left-back, Javi Galan, is on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid in a transfer deal valued at approximately €3.5 million.

As part of the agreement, Atletico’s young talent, Manu Sanchez, will move in the opposite direction.

With Galan’s arrival, Atletico Madrid’s pursuit for a long-term solution at left-back comes to a close.

The club had been seeking a replacement following Renan Lodi’s departure to Nottingham Forest last year and an injury to Reinildo.

Sergio Reguilon joined on loan from Tottenham last season but, for various reasons, did not nail down a regular starting sport and coach Diego Simeone was forced to improvise with personnel and his formation.

Galan, 28, was a regular for Celta last season, making 40 appearances in all competitions, and has previously been linked with Barcelona.

  • Arsenal on the verge of closing £100m record deal for Rice

Arsenal has submitted a third bid for West Ham United captain Declan Rice, aiming to secure his transfer in a move that would set a new record for a British player, according to the Athletic,

The Gunners have allegedly put forward an offer of £100 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons.

This bid comes shortly after West Ham rejected Manchester City’s initial offer of £90 million for the talented England international.

City have already secured a £30m deal for Mateo Kovacic but also are keen to add Rice to their midfield options following Ilkay Gundogan’s decision to join Barcelona on a free transfer.

Since making his debut at age 18, Rice has made 245 appearances for the east London club. He has one year left on his contract, but West Ham also hold an option to extend his deal by a further year.

It has been widely reported that West Ham expects Rice to leave this summer but have so far held firm with their demands to receive a record fee for their midfield general.

  • ‘Lydia Seyram your downfall is next’ – John Dumelo warns after outcome of Assin North by-election

‘Lydia Seyram your downfall is next’ – John Dumelo warns after outcome of Assin North by-election

Ghanaian actor and politician, John Dumelo, recently issued a warning to Lydia Alhassan Seyram, his contender in the 2020 parliamentary race for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.

He advised her to be prepared for a potential defeat in the upcoming 2024 polls.

Dumelo conveyed this message through a tweet on June 27, 2023. His statement came after he celebrated the victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Assin North by-election, where James Gyakye Quayson of the NDC emerged triumphant, defeating Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

John Dumelo, who contested the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat on the NDC ticket for the first time in the previous election, made his intentions clear with a tweet that read, “Lydia Seyram Alhassan, your downfall is next!”

The Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency has been a hotspot for both NPP and NDC. In the 2020 elections, Dumelo and Lydia Alhassan fought a closely contested race, with Seyram emerging as the winner.

However, Dumelo’s warning suggests that he remains determined to claim the seat in the upcoming elections.

The NDC candidate for Assin North defeated the NPP candidate, marking a significant win for the opposition party.

  • Sympathy votes, strong NDC campaign, 3 other things that caused Gyakye Quayson’s win

Sympathy votes, strong NDC campaign, 3 other things that caused Gyakye Quayson’s win

Despite extensive campaigning against his candidacy by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government, James Gyakye Quayson emerged victorious in the Assin North by-election held on June 27.

Quayson, who was previously removed from his position as Member of Parliament due to a Supreme Court ruling that nullified his candidacy in the 2020 elections, also had his name expunged from parliamentary records.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) took a calculated risk by nominating him as their candidate, but their gamble has ultimately paid off as Quayson’s win in the election demonstrates.

Below are five reasons Gyakye Quayson prevailed despite the stiff odds he came up against

    Sympathy votes from ouster

The nature of his ouster was widely contested by the NDC and other legal luminaries like Prof. Kwaku Azar; which sentiment seemed to have sunk by way of the NDC’s campaign.

    Development blitz by NPP

The presidency and relevant ministries descended on the constituency with projects upon projects.

A section of the voters openly spoke about their anger that the government abandoned them all that while and sought to win the polls using last-minute projects.

    Ongoing criminal trial by government

Gyakye Quayson’s criminal trial at the High Court is also a factor that analysts believe played in the interest of the embattled MP.

    Well-oiled NDC campaign

The NDC knowing the political implications of the outcome of the vote in relation to the 2024 polls deployed a well oiled campaign that involved all officials across the national, regional and constituency levels.

This was evident in the way the party collated its results, matching the official results with slight percentage points.

Massive show of support by Minority

Almost all NDC MPs were deployed to the campaign grounds at different times with his former colleagues serving as polling station executives across the constituency.

Weeks before the vote, northern MPs, Ashanti, Volta and Greater Accra MPs were strategically deployed to specific zones that had specific ethnic demographics to drum home the strength of the MP-elect.

  • Assin North voters mocked NPP candidate with chants, ‘Charles Opoku sika no, yɛdi’

Assin North voters mocked NPP candidate with chants, ‘Charles Opoku sika no, yɛdi’

A group of voters in the Assin North Constituency were recorded expressing their joy and celebrating the success of James Gyakye Quayson, the candidate from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In the footage, a few supporters situated at the rear of a pickup truck can be heard singing a song, indicating that they have utilized Charles Opoku’s funds.

“Here is not not Kumawu,” one of them is heard adding after the chorus of their sone ends.

Even before the Electoral Commission formally announced results, the NDC took to the streets celebrating their victory citing wins in New Patriotic Party (NPP) strongholds in the constituency.

    EC makes formal declaration:

Gyakye Quayson was announced the winner after the Electoral Commission of Ghana officially declared him as the Member of Parliament-elect.

Going by the figures from both outfits, it is clear that the NDC’s collation was watertight and that the system put in place was robust enough to deliver polling station outcomes in a timeous manner.

Analysts, however, warn that this is for one constituency but the parties will now have to focus on rolling out a system to collate two levels of results come 2024 – the national presidential vote and 275 parliamentary results.

    About the Assin North by-election:

The by-election in Assin North was held to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant following a legal battle that questioned Quayson’s eligibility to hold office due to dual citizenship concerns.

Ilkay Gundogan could exit Barca before the start of La Liga – Reports

Following a remarkable season at the Etihad Stadium, Ilkay Gundogan completed a free transfer to Barcelona, the reigning champions of La Liga.

The former Manchester City captain, who played a crucial role in the team’s European treble, has reportedly secured an insurance policy worth £7.7 million in the event that Barcelona’s financial difficulties prevent him from participating during the upcoming season.

Gundogan’s exceptional performances in the final stages of the season were instrumental in securing Manchester City’s first-ever UEFA Champions League title, marking a triumphant end to his seven-year tenure at the club.

According to reports by Marca, despite Pep Guardiola and his players pleading for Gundogan to stay, he instead opted to move to Barcelona, with the team fresh off winning La Liga and looking to shine once again in Europe.

Regardless of the Catalans’ financial struggles, which has seen them clash with the Spanish league body numerous times over the registration of players within their spending cap, Gundogan appears excited.

The same rules by La Liga saw Lionel Messi depart the club in 2021 when his contract renewal was unable to be processed, and Barca also struggled last summer to get a number of signings registered.

    Gundogan’s Barcelona contract clause

Jules Kounde was unable to join the squad until after the start of the 2022/23 campaign, with president, Joan Laporta, having to sell off assets to free room for new signings.

Gundogan will not take a risk and has a special clause inserted in his contract that could see him depart Barcelona if the club is not able to register him due to any financial problems.

The former Man City skipper was reportedly assured this would not happen, per The Athletic, as well as being promised his first year in wages should his registration be impeded.

The Catalans are currently over La Liga’s spending cap limit ahead of the new season on August 12, but are believed to be confident enough about freeing up space for the midfield veteran.

    Gundogan’s message to Man City

Sports Brief also reported on Gundogan’s passionate message to Man City and the fans after the former captain completed a blockbuster switch to Barcelona.

He was Guardiola’s first signing at City in 2016 and captained the club to their first-ever Champions League trophy en route to completing their historic treble.

Shot putter runs 100m hurdles to prevent her country from being disqualified at the European Athletics Championships

In a heartwarming display of sportsmanship, a Belgian athlete named Jolien Boumkwo participated in the 100m hurdles event at the European Athletics Team Championships in Poland.

Despite finishing nearly 20 seconds behind the rest of the field, Boumkwo received widespread applause and appreciation for her efforts.

Typically a hammer throw and shot-put athlete, Boumkwo selflessly stepped in to save her nation’s team when Belgium’s regular hurdlers, Anne Zagre and Hanne Claes, were both injured.

At the European Championships, points are awarded for every competitor and event so Boumkwo added to her nation’s tally by competing.

And more than that, Belgium would have been disqualified had no athlete competed in the event.

Boumkwo had already competed in the shot put on Friday, finishing seventh, before quite literally stepping forward to run for her nation.

The 29-year-old finished the race without knocking any of the hurdles down in 32.81 seconds, 19 seconds after Spanish sprinter Teresa Errandonea who won with 13.22.

Boumkwo was applauded by the audience and congratulated by her rivals as she earned two points for the team.

She holds the national record of 17.09m for shot put, achieved in 2016.

The points earned could prove crucial as the bottom three countries will be relegated from Division 1.

Barca to let go of goalkeeper Arnau Tenas when his contract expires end of June

At the age of 22, Tenas is currently representing Spain U21s at the European Championships in Georgia.

After the tournament concludes, the young player will assess his options and make a decision regarding his future.

Several LaLiga clubs have expressed interest in him.

Barcelona had the option to extend Tenas’ contract by two more years but chose not to exercise it, considering that Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Inaki Pena are currently ahead of him in the first-team hierarchy.

After progressing through the club’s academy, Tenas was the the third goalkeeper for Xavi Hernandez’s team last season and also the No.1 for the reserve team, who play in the Spanish third division.

He remains highly rated within the club due to his leadership abilities and footwork, but with the need to strengthen elsewhere, his salary was deemed too expensive for a third-choice goalkeeper.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has expressed to Bayern Munich that they are his preferred choice for a transfer, and the German club is preparing to submit an official bid for the 29-year-old forward in the near future according to Sky Sports Deutschland.

Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel reportedly considers Kane as his primary transfer target, and the Bundesliga giants are increasingly optimistic about reaching an agreement with Tottenham for a fee below €100 million.

Spurs’ all-time-leading goal-scorer has one year left on his contract and is tipped to depart north London this summer in search of some silverware after the Premier League side failed to secure a place in European competition next season.

Kane has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly searching for a striker.

However, Bundesliga giants Bayern are now in pole position to sign Kane as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski following his move to Barcelona last summer.

The England captain is reportedly the top transfer target of Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel, and the Bundesliga giants are growing confident that they can negotiate a deal that sees Tottenham part ways with their talisman for less than €100 million.

  • Women’s World Cup opener in Australia sells out 80,000 seats – FIFA

Women’s World Cup opener in Australia sells out 80,000 seats – FIFA

A senior FIFA official informed AFP on Tuesday that Australia, the co-hosts of the upcoming Women’s World Cup, will kick off their first match in front of a capacity crowd.

Dave Beeche, the CEO of the Women’s World Cup, confirmed that the Matildas’ opening game against Ireland on July 20 has already sold out at Sydney’s Stadium Australia, with the stadium’s capacity reaching around 80,000 spectators.

“There is currently nothing available,” he said.

Beeche also expects a capacity crowd the same day in Auckland where tournament co-hosts New Zealand — the “Football Ferns” – open their campaign against Norway.

“It’s going to be a massive day for women’s football,” he said of the double-header either side of the Tasman Sea.

With less than 25 days until kick off, the tournament boss says only a “few thousand” tickets are left for New Zealand’s opening game at Eden Park, where capacity will be just under 40,000.

“Yes, definitely” Beeche replied when asked whether the Auckland stadium would be sold out for the opener, despite fears about the tournament’s low ticket sales in New Zealand.

Football’s governing body FIFA has said around 1.1 million tickets have been sold for the 64 matches in Australia and New Zealand.

FIFA’s head of women’s football Sarai Bareman has voiced concern about low World Cup ticket sales in New Zealand, where the co-hosts are struggling for form.

The Football Ferns approach the tournament on a 10-match winless streak with one chance left to get a morale-boosting win in a final home friendly against Vietnam on July 10th.

Beeche said 270,000 tickets had so far been sold in New Zealand and 830,000 in Australia.

Those unequal numbers reflect the population sizes of Australia, where 26 million people live, and New Zealand, which is home to five million, he insisted.

“When you look at the Matildas being a high-ranked team and the Football Ferns’ run of form, New Zealand is doing pretty well,” he said.

  • Man City officially make bid to sign Declan Rice

Man City officially make bid to sign Declan Rice

Reports indicate that Manchester City has made an official bid to West Ham United to acquire the services of 24-year-old midfielder Declan Rice.

The bid, according to The Athletic, consists of £80 million with an additional £10 million in potential add-ons.

This move by Manchester City comes as a rival to Arsenal, who had their own club-record bid for Rice turned down by West Ham last week.

The Gunners also offered a package totalling £90 million but structured it with a guaranteed £75 million and £15 million in potential add-ons.

Rice is contracted to West Ham until 2024 but the Hammers have the option to extend his deal for a further year.

However, chairman David Sullivan said he expects the player to leave the club this summer after their Europa Conference League victory.

Rice made his West Ham debut in 2017 and has gone on to register 245 appearances for the club as well as establishing himself as the club captain.
