In the video snippet that she posted on her Instagram page, Ireti is seen playing the role of a corrupt politician named Dame Maduka, who is ultimately arrested and imprisoned. She thanked God for reaching a new age and all of the blessings that she has received.

She wrote: “Na my birthday o… See where @aycomedian put me!! It is well… Another 365 round the sun, He has been faithful and has done all things well!!”

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Nigerian actress Ireti Doyle opened up about her personal life, correcting some misconceptions and revealing some painful truths.

Lukaku recounts Thierry Henry’s scold which sent starplayer off training

Romelu Lukaku has shared a touching memory he has with former footballer Thierry Henry. Widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers of his generation, Henry won numerous trophies during his playing days with Arsenal and Barcelona.

After retiring from the game, Henry tried his hand at management, but his spells with Monaco and Montreal Impact did not yield the desired results.

However, he found success as Roberto Martinez’s assistant in the Belgian national team set-up, where they dominated FIFA rankings for a long period of time and reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.

It was during his time with the Belgian national team that Henry built a close relationship with Lukaku.

Romelu Lukaku and Thierry Henry have a close bond that goes beyond their love for football. The two met during Henry’s stint as Roberto Martinez’s assistant in the Belgian national team set-up. As part of his role, Henry was responsible for training the team’s strikers, and Lukaku was one of the beneficiaries of his vast experience.

    Romelo Lukaku and Henry

As Martinez’s assistant, one of Henry’s responsibilities was to train the team’s strikers, given his wealth of experience, having won the World Cup with France during his playing days.

In a past video interview with Henry, Lukaku reminisced about what it was like to train alongside the French legend.

He revealed that Henry used to participate in the training drills and, despite his age, still displayed his impressive skill and class on the pitch.

Lukaku’s admiration for Henry is evident, and his recounting of their shared experiences is a testament to the bond they formed during their time together on the Belgian national team.

The Belgian striker’s comments also shed light on the importance of having experienced and knowledgeable coaches who can provide valuable insights and guidance to players.

Henry’s experience as a player undoubtedly played a crucial role in his success as Martinez’s assistant, and Lukaku’s account of their training sessions together highlights the benefits of having a former player as a coach.

The Belgian national team’s success during Henry’s time as assistant coach speaks for itself, and his impact on the team and its players cannot be understated.

“I think, in the national team when you were there, I think for us, the strikers, we had maybe the best time we could have ever had because the competition was there.”

The 29-year-old shed light on how Henry once embarrassed an unnamed player, causing him to leave the pitch.

“I remember when my brother came and he was like, ‘you did this skill in training’, but I’m not going to say any names, but the player left the pitch,” Lukaku said, as quoted by the Mirror.

The Red Devils did not have a very promising World Cup campaign after they exited in the group stage.

Martinez resigned immediately afterwards and ended up taking the Portugal job. Henry also left after the appointment of Domenico Tedesco as new coach, per AP News.

So close was the relationship between the striker and the former player, Lukaku wanted Henry to succeed Martinez as manager on a full-time basis.

It was previously reported on the forward saying the Frenchman had the distinction of having won everything and had many players’ respect the respect of many players.

Despite Lukaku’s hopes for Henry to succeed Martinez, the Belgian Football Association opted to go with Tedesco instead. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Henry, but his legacy as one of the greatest strikers of his generation is secure.

Before Tedesco’s appointment as Belgium’s new head coach, many names had been floated, including Manchester City legend, Vincent Kompany.

Police arrest Arsenal fan for laser shone at Chelsea star Mudryk

Arsenal has released a statement condemning the shining of a laser into the face of Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk during Tuesday night’s Premier League match between the two London clubs.

The incident led to the arrest of a fan.

Television cameras at the Emirates Stadium captured footage of a light being shone in the direction of the Ukraine international.

Mudryk had come on as a second-half substitute for the visitors and had been jeered by some Arsenal fans.

    Laser light on Mykhailo

The Gunners had been linked with a move for Mudryk in the January transfer window, but the player instead signed for their London rivals. The incident occurred during Arsenal’s 3-1 home victory, which saw the club move back to the top of the Premier League table.

In its statement released on Wednesday morning, Arsenal expressed its disappointment with the incident, saying, “An arrest has been made following the use of a laser during last night’s match. This behaviour is dangerous and totally unacceptable, and we will fully support the police with their enquiries. We will obviously take the strongest possible action.”

Beam green laser hit Mudryk during match between Arsenal and Chelsea

The Football Association (FA) is expected to investigate the matter, while the Metropolitan Police made three further arrests at the game for ticket touting.

The incident has raised concerns about player safety and the behaviour of fans at sporting events. The use of lasers by fans to distract or injure players has become an increasingly common occurrence in recent years, with football authorities and police forces taking a strong stance against such behaviour.

In 2019, a teenager was arrested for shining a laser at Derby County goalkeeper Kelle Roos during a Championship match against Nottingham Forest. The offender was subsequently banned from attending any football match for three years.

The incident involving Mudryk has once again highlighted the need for greater vigilance and security measures at sporting events. Football authorities and clubs must take steps to ensure the safety of players and spectators alike, and to prevent incidents of this nature from occurring in the future.

The use of lasers by fans is not only dangerous but also illegal, and those found guilty of such behaviour can face criminal charges as well as bans from attending matches.

The incident at the Emirates Stadium has also led to questions about the behaviour of football fans in general.

While most supporters are passionate and respectful, a small minority engage in abusive or threatening behaviour that can mar the enjoyment of others and damage the reputation of the sport.

Incidents like this can have a significant impact on players’ mental health and their ability to perform on the pitch. The use of lasers and other forms of harassment and abuse can create a hostile environment that affects players’ concentration and confidence, potentially leading to injury or poor performance.

The incident involving Mudryk is a reminder that football fans have a responsibility to behave in a manner that respects the players, the game, and each other. It is essential that fans are educated about the dangers and consequences of their actions and are held accountable for any misconduct.

Football authorities must also take a proactive approach to address the underlying issues that contribute to such incidents, including discrimination, racism, and violence. By promoting diversity, inclusivity, and respect, football can help to build a better society that values fairness, equality, and sportsmanship.

The incident involving Mudryk is a stark reminder of the need for greater vigilance and security at sporting events, as well as the importance of educating fans about the dangers and consequences of their actions. Football clubs and authorities must work together to ensure the safety and wellbeing of players and fans, and to promote a culture of respect.

Low GPA?HND or 3rd class? USA and Canada has scholarship for you

If you have a low GPA (2.2), 3rd Class or HND, these are the things you must do to ensure you secure an admission in the US with funding.

    1. Evaluating results with WES: World Education Services (WES) is a non-profit organization that evaluates international academic credentials for individuals who want to study or work in Canada or the US.
    2. Their evaluations help academic institutions and employers understand the value of an individual’s educational qualifications. To evaluate your result with WES, you need to submit your academic credentials, including transcripts and certificates, to WES for evaluation.

    2. Research interest: A research interest is an area of study that you are passionate about and would like to investigate further. It is an essential aspect of academic research as it helps you focus your research efforts and make meaningful contributions to your field.

    3. Cold emailing professors: Cold emailing is the practice of sending unsolicited emails to individuals or organizations that you want to establish a connection with. In the academic context, cold emailing professors is a common practice among graduate students or individuals looking for research opportunities.

To draft a compelling cold email, you need to research the professor’s work, explain why you are interested in their research, and demonstrate how your skills and interests align with their work.

    4. Academic CV: An academic CV is a document that summarizes your academic achievements, publications, research experience, and other relevant qualifications. It is an essential tool for academics, researchers, and graduate students looking for research or academic positions. To draft an irresistible academic CV, you need to highlight your accomplishments, tailor your CV to the job or position you are applying for, and ensure that your CV is well-organized and easy to read.

    5. Additional skills: In addition to academic qualifications, individuals in the academic and research field require additional skills to succeed. These skills include communication, time management, data analysis, problem-solving, and project management.

To acquire additional skills, you can take courses, attend workshops, or seek mentorship from experienced professionals in your field. Examples of such skills include:

    • Statistical/computational ability
    • Research & Teaching skills
    • Communication ability
    • Volunteering and community Development experience

Admission in the US for MS/PhD is not necessarily about your CGPA. The defining requirements that makes an admission application strong are:

    1. Components of the Academic CV
    2. SOP
    3. LoR
    4. Research and Teaching Skills

Also below are some desirable skills schools and scholarship hubs look out for to award funding to students, especially in the USA, UK and Canada.

    1. Data Analytics Skills
    2. Statistical Analytics Skills
    3. Python or R programming Skills
    4. Teaching Experience (even Virtual Teaching is ok)
    5. Volunteering experience and Community Service
    6. Research Interest

These are desirable aptitude for Graduate School. Especially if you are looking for an Admission that offers GTA and GRA, you need these.

However, note that this is both for those in STEM and NON-STEM fields.

STEM and non-STEM are two categories of academic fields. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, while non-STEM refers to fields that are not included in these categories.

STEM fields typically involve research, development, and application of scientific and mathematical principles. Examples of STEM fields include physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, engineering, and biology.

Non-STEM fields, on the other hand, encompass a broad range of academic disciplines that are not included in the STEM categories. Examples of non-STEM fields include social sciences (such as psychology, sociology, and anthropology), humanities (such as history, philosophy, and literature), arts (such as music, fine arts, and theater), business, law, education, and many others.

It is worth noting that both STEM and non-STEM fields have their unique challenges and opportunities. While STEM fields often require strong analytical and quantitative skills, non-STEM fields may require excellent communication, critical thinking, and writing abilities. Ultimately, the choice of a field of study depends on personal interests, career goals, and academic strengths.

  • Haaland’s goal scoring antics shocks Guardiola

Haaland’s goal scoring antics shocks Guardiola

Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has expressed his surprise at the impressive goal-scoring abilities of his striker, Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian international is on the verge of breaking the Premier League’s single-season goal record, having scored his 34th goal of the campaign in City’s recent 2-1 victory over Fulham.

Haaland’s incredible form has seen him join Andy Cole and Alan Shearer as the joint record holders for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season.

The 22-year-old’s goal at Craven Cottage was also his 50th of the season in all competitions, a feat that no Premier League player has achieved since the league’s rebranding in 1992.

Guardiola has been amazed by Haaland’s goal-scoring exploits this season, with the manager praising the striker’s talent and work ethic.

    Pep Guardiola and striker Haaland

The Spaniard believes that Haaland’s performances have been a significant factor in City’s success this season and has hailed his impact on the team.

“It is a surprise for all of us — maybe not for him — to do what he’s doing in this difficult league but the way he behaves and has done it is for the success of the team,” he said.

“Of course it’s good for him and the team if he breaks the records. It’s a good sign.

“The magnitude of a record is because for a long time it was not broken. All records will be broken one day.

“I’m pretty sure he is going to score more goals in the Premier League until the end of the season.”

In-form City put themselves firmly in control of the title race with their 4-1 rout of Arsenal last week.

But, after being pushed hard by Fulham, Guardiola is not taking anything for granted ahead of City’s home game against West Ham on Wednesday.

“West Ham maybe didn’t do the season they expected but that doesn’t mean the quality is not there,” he said.

“In the last two seasons with David Moyes they have been exceptional.

“The weapons are there, they are a good team. I don’t have doubts about them. In one game anything can happen. We have to be absolutely ready.”

Haaland’s rise to stardom has been remarkable, with the striker establishing himself as one of the most lethal forwards in world football.

He has already surpassed the 100-goal mark in his club career, having played for Molde, RB Salzburg, and Borussia Dortmund before joining City last summer.

The Norwegian’s impressive performances have also attracted interest from other top European clubs, with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly interested in signing him this summer.

However, City remain keen to keep hold of their prized asset and are expected to offer him a new contract in the coming months.

Despite his young age, Haaland has already established himself as one of the best strikers in the world, and his performances this season have put him in the conversation for the Ballon d’Or award.

The Norwegian’s incredible scoring feats have also led to speculation about his future, with a number of top European clubs reportedly interested in signing him.

Guardiola will be aware of the need to continue to develop Haaland’s game and help him reach his full potential, which could see him become one of the all-time greats of the game.

As City look to secure the Premier League title and progress in the Champions League, Guardiola will be hoping that Haaland can continue his remarkable scoring form and help lead the team to further success.

Haaland’s tremendous in-form has earned him comparisons with football’s GOAT (Greatest of All Time) like Messi and Ronaldo.

  • Arteta tells his Arsenal squad to embrace being back ‘at the top’

Arteta tells his Arsenal squad to embrace being back ‘at the top’

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta witnessed his team’s return to the summit of the English Premier League after a commanding victory over London rivals Chelsea. Despite the success, Arteta remained grounded and vowed to keep his team focused on the task ahead.

The Gunners had enjoyed an eight-point lead at the top of the table last month, but a string of poor results saw them drop behind Manchester City. However, a comprehensive 3-1 triumph over Chelsea ended their winless streak and propelled them back to the summit.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta saw his team return to the top of the Premier League with victory over Chelsea (Adam Davy/PA

The match saw Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard grab a brace, with Gabriel Jesus adding a third before half-time. Chelsea’s only goal came from Noni Madueke, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation for Frank Lampard’s men.

The victory over Chelsea was a significant statement of intent from Arsenal, who have struggled in recent seasons to challenge for the Premier League title.

With the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool dominating the competition in recent years, the Gunners will be eager to prove their worth and claim their first league title since the 2003-04 season.

Despite their recent run, Arteta had refused to rule Arsenal out of the title race and this win took them two points clear – although they have played two more games than City.

The Spaniard admitted he did not want to see morale fall after a galling loss at City last week saw their lead all but dashed.

“It is four games to go, we are at the top right now,” he said.

“We cannot do that (let heads drop), to be where we are after 10 months against the team we are fighting against, being there and having the possibility to be top – we have to enjoy it and embrace it, maximise the opportunity that we have because we don’t know what is going to happen.

“We wanted to have a very different approach to the game, and we did it right from the beginning.

“The team is back to its best. We wanted to prove we had that fire in the belly. I could see that in the last few days, and we prepared (for) the game well.

“Mentally we arrived in the right mood and with the right level of energy. Everything went for us as well, which is important.

“We’ve had a couple of difficult weeks with very different games, with a lot of emotions involved. We’re back to the top of the league – let’s see what happens.”

While it was a night to remember for skipper Odegaard, it was one his predecessor will want to forget in a hurry. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang started for Chelsea for the first time since facing the Gunners on November 6 but lasted just 45 minutes before being substituted, having had nine touches – four of which were kick-offs.

Arteta was full of praise for Odegaard and the example set by the Norway international.

“He has 14 goals this season, his contribution to the team, his leadership skills, I’m really pleased with him,” he added.

“He has been exceptional for us, his contribution every single day. I think he has done that (set the tone) on many occasions. What Martin has done this season deserves a lot of credit.”

Chelsea have now lost all six games under interim head coach Frank Lampard, who believes his players are “too nice” as they remain in the bottom half of the table.

“We weren’t good enough,” he conceded.

“We were too nice to play against, too passive. In possession we weren’t playing balls over their press, or winning second balls.

“Chelsea have been a big success for 20 years domestically and in the Champions League, at the moment we’re not in that position.

“But from the moment I’ve been here it’s been evident we’re too nice as a team.

“We can’t change things overnight but we had better get there quickly because we have another game at the weekend and games to come.”

  • PSG coach not happy about Messi’s trip to Saudi Arabia

PSG coach not happy about Messi’s trip to Saudi Arabia

The Argentine superstar’s recent journey to Saudi Arabia has strained his relationships with Sporting director Luis Campos and Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier.

In order to visit Saudi Arabia, where he is an ambassador for that country’s bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the 35-year-old attacker had to first get approval from two senior PSG officials.

Messi reportedly spoke to the club’s administration before Campos and Galtier did, and they agreed to allow the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to travel to Riyadh. This is according to PSG Talk.

Messi’s move has reportedly enraged the club’s supporters, who are frustrated with PSG because players can do whatever they want without regard for the institution.

Messi is set to become a free agent in the summer when his current PSG contract expires, and Saudi top team, Al Hilal, are one of the teams interested in signing the Argentine.

    UEFA declares Messi’s UCL titles

Meanwhile, Daily Post reports that UEFA has declared that Lionel Messi has won the Champions League only three times in his career.

Messi has been part of the Barcelona team since 2004 and played a pivotal role in Barcelona’s Champions League victories in 2009, 2011, and 2015 but not in their 2006 success.

UEFA declared that the Argentina international had won only three titles as he was not part of Barcelona’s squad in the 2006 final.

Messi’s return to Barcelona in jeopardy

Barcelona’s hopes of reuniting with Lionel Messi this summer have suffered a significant setback. As previously reported by Sports Brief, the Catalan club had been hoping to bring back their record goal-scorer, who left to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. However, the club has failed to convince La Liga about the viability of their financial plan.

Barcelona is currently facing financial difficulties and has been trying to cut costs while still trying to sign Messi. But La Liga, which oversees the financial fair play of all clubs in the league, has expressed doubts that Barcelona will be able to meet their demands and targets.

Leo leaves Barca, shed tears at send off ceremony

According to reports, Barcelona’s viability plan aimed to reduce the club’s wage bill by €200 million and make savings of €300 million. The club’s failure to meet these targets has raised concerns about their ability to comply with financial fair play regulations.

The failure of Barcelona to secure Messi’s return could have far-reaching consequences for the club, given the importance of the player to the team’s success over the years. Messi, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, scored a total of 672 goals in 778 appearances for Barcelona.

His departure from the club last year was seen by many as the end of an era.

Barcelona’s financial difficulties have been exacerbated by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has hit the club hard in terms of lost revenue. The club’s wage bill, which was already one of the highest in Europe, has been further inflated by the signing of several high-profile players in recent years.

The club’s attempts to cut costs have included the departures of several key players, including Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, and Arturo Vidal. However, the club’s efforts to reduce its wage bill have been hampered by the high salaries of some of its remaining players, including Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho.

Barcelona has also been trying to raise funds through player sales, with the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Miralem Pjanic, and Junior Firpo all rumored to be on the chopping block. However, the club has struggled to find buyers for these players, who are all on high salaries.

The failure of Barcelona to bring back Messi is likely to be a major disappointment for fans of the club, who had been hoping to see their star player return to the Camp Nou. However, it remains to be seen what impact this will have on the team’s fortunes on the pitch.

Barcelona’s current squad is still packed with talented players, including the likes of Griezmann, Coutinho, and Frenkie de Jong. The club also has a number of promising young players, such as Pedri, Ansu Fati, and Ilaix Moriba.

However, the loss of Messi will undoubtedly be felt by the team, both in terms of his on-field contributions and his influence in the dressing room. The 33-year-old Argentine forward was not only the club’s all-time top scorer but also its talismanic leader, who inspired his teammates with his passion and commitment.

Despite the setback of failing to sign Messi, Barcelona remains one of the biggest clubs in world football, with a rich history and a loyal fanbase. The club will be hoping to bounce back from its recent financial difficulties and re-establish itself as a major force in the sport.

  • Met Gala: A$AP Rocky hoping over barricade ahead left by standers in shock

Met Gala: A$AP Rocky hoping over barricade ahead left by standers in shock

On Monday night, the annual Met Gala took place in New York City, and while many were waiting to see what celebrities like Rihanna and Beyoncé would be wearing, it was A$AP Rocky who made the headlines. The rapper was seen hopping over a barricade to get into the Carlyle Hotel ahead of the fashion event, a video posted to Twitter purportedly showed.

The video was posted by HuffPost senior editor Philip Lewis, and it showed A$AP Rocky appearing to push past a group of people and jump over a barrier outside the hotel.

ASAp Rocky hopes over barricade into hotel ahead of Met Gala

Once he got onto the hotel’s red carpet, someone in the crowd handed him a duffle bag, as the video seemed to show.

A$AP Rocky’s representatives did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment on the video, which has 1.3 million views at the time of writing.

Shortly after the footage went viral, the woman whose face A$AP Rocky appeared to palm in the video revealed herself on Twitter to be 21-year-old Madelyn Llanes from Long Island, New York. She wrote that she wasn’t offended by the rapper’s behavior and that he didn’t hurt her.

“ASAP Rocky just literally jumped over me,” she tweeted alongside a selfie with her glasses slightly askew.

Llanes later spoke to The Independent about the incident.

“I had felt someone tapping my shoulder, so I turned around and saw that it was him but my brain didn’t fully comprehend that it was him,” she said.

Llanes said Rocky then told her, “Sweetheart, I need to get through.” She said she told him no, but he did not care.

“He just pushed his way up and then hopped over and grabbed me and the guy next to me as he did,” she said. “After he hopped over, he was like ‘thank you’ and then just laughed and flipped me off and then he went inside and that’s when I fully realized it was him.”

Some people online felt sorry for the Llanes. One wrote: “He put all his weight on that poor woman!” Another user made light of the situation, tweeting: “The power of celebrity is using someone’s face as a springboard and them looking at you in awe over it lol.”

One person who claimed to be in attendance captured a different perspective of A$AP Rocky’s jump. The user was surprised by how close the rapper was to them.

This is not the first time A$AP Rocky has made headlines for his actions at the Met Gala. In 2019, he walked the red carpet with a giant blanket that looked like a duvet cover, which many people found amusing. He has also been known for his stylish outfits at the annual event.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It has been held since 1948 and is considered one of the biggest nights in the fashion industry. Each year, the event has a theme, and this year’s theme was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”

The event was postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it returned this year with various safety protocols in place. All attendees were required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result, and the event was held outdoors to reduce the risk of transmission.

A$AP Rocky wasn’t the only one who caused a stir at this year’s event. Kim Kardashian also turned heads with her outfit, which covered her entire body, including her face. The outfit was designed by Balenciaga and included a black face covering and a long black dress with a train.

Other notable attendees included Billie Eilish, who wore a peach-colored gown with a long train, and actor Timothée Chalamet, who wore a white Haider Ackermann suit with black lapels and Converse sneakers.

Despite the various safety protocols in place, the Met Gala has been criticized by some for being tone-deaf during the pandemic. The event, which is known for its opulence and extravagance, has been described as a symbol of excess during a time when many people are struggling.

Overall, this year’s Met Gala was a star-studded event that drew attention from around the world. While A$AP Rocky’s antics may have stolen the show in the early hours, the event was ultimately a celebration of fashion and creativity, with many attendees using their outfits to make a statement about American culture and identity.

The Carlyle is a popular hotel among celebrities attending the Met Gala, according to Cosmopolitan. It’s where many Met Gala attendees will unveil their looks for the event before arriving at the nearby Metropolitan Museum of Art, the venue for the famous Costume Institute gala.

The Manhattan hotel has also been a favorite with royals Princess Diana, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle.

But Mane’s troubles did not end there. According to a report by Goal, Liverpool’s former manager Thomas Tuchel left Mane feeling humiliated during training by pulling down his shorts.

The incident must have been embarrassing for the 31-year-old forward, who has been one of Liverpool’s key players in recent years.

Despite Mane’s struggles this season, Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp has shown faith in him, and he has continued to feature prominently in the team’s line-up.

As the Reds look to finish the season strongly and secure a top-four spot in the Premier League, Mane will need to put his troubles behind him and focus on his football.

Thomas Tuchel pulls down Sadio Mane’s shorts

Despite joining the Bavarians last summer, Mane’s future at Bayern Munich remains uncertain, with the Bundesliga champions reportedly set on selling the forward after just one season in Germany.

Mauricio Pochettino has even discussed the possibility of signing the unsettled Bayern Munich striker if he decides to take over the Chelsea job next season, as reported by Tribal Football.

Bayern Munich’s manager Thomas Tuchel has attempted to make Sadio Mane feel more at ease following the Senegal forward’s recent troubles in Germany.

Mane has struggled with form and fitness issues this season, and he was most recently suspended for one game after punching teammate Leroy Sane following a Champions League game.

According to Goal, Tuchel left Mane feeling embarrassed after he pulled down the 31-year-old forward’s shorts during training. The coach sneaked up from behind and “pantsed” the forward, who was standing on the training pitch’s sidelines, before casually walking away from the scene.

Despite joining the Bavarians last summer, Mane’s future at Bayern Munich remains uncertain, with the Bundesliga champions reportedly set on offloading the forward after just one season in Germany.

It has been reported that Mauricio Pochettino has discussed the possibility of signing the unsettled Bayern Munich striker if he decides to take over the Chelsea job next season, according to Tribal Football.

Mauricio Pochettino likely to be Chelsea’s new manager

The Argentine coach is expected to be confirmed as the new manager of the Blues soon following lengthy negotiations with the Premier League club’s hierarchy.

Bayern are said to be willing to sell Mane and would accept a bid of around £30 million to part with the Senegal international, who has struggled to adapt to Germany. Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Bayern Munich manager, Tuchel telling Mane to step up as the winger struggles for form with the Bundesliga side.

The Senegalese, who moved from Liverpool last summer, has yet to hit the right strings despite beginning his spell with five goals from six outings.

Tuchel analyzed Mane’s role in the team and the reason for his subpar performance. While Mane’s time at Bayern Munich may be coming to an end, it remains to be seen where he will end up next season.

Sadio Mane is not the only Bayern player, who is likely to be let off the hook by the German giants. Serge Gnabry, Daley Blind, Ryan Gravenberch, and goal keeper Yann Sommer.

Yann Sommer’s comes as a suprise as the keeper was signed just January, 2023.

  • Mourinho cried after his Real Madrid side lost in 2012

Mourinho cried after his Real Madrid side lost in 2012

Jose Mourinho, one of the most successful managers in modern football, is reported to have cried only once in his managerial career, according to reports.

Despite the highs and lows of his lengthy career, the Portuguese tactician has earned the nickname “The Special One” due to his impressive managerial achievements.

Over two decades, he has won a staggering 27 trophies, according to Sportbible.

Mourinho’s most recent triumph came in Rome in 2022, when he helped Roma win the inaugural Europa League Conference trophy.

The Serie A giants defeated Feyenoord 1-0 in the final of the competition, marking Mourinho’s fifth European title success. At the time, the 60-year-old was spotted shedding tears of joy.

Jose Mourinho in tears after breaking win record

Although Mourinho has had many moments of success, he has also experienced disappointment throughout his career. In 2012, he watched his Real Madrid side crash out of the UEFA Champions League in the semi-final stage, causing him to cry for the first and only time after a defeat in his managerial career. Speaking to Marca in 2020, Mourinho revealed that he wept after the defeat but acknowledged that it was a part of football.

“Cristiano, Kaka, Sergio Ramos… three complete monsters of football; there’s no doubt about that, but they’re also human,” he said. “That night was the only time in my career as a coach that I’ve cried after a defeat. I remember it well… Aitor [Karanka] and I pulled up in front of my house in the car, crying… It was very hard because we were the best that season.”

    Kaka and Sergio Ramos

In addition to his achievements on the pitch, Mourinho has a reputation for making sly comments and criticisms towards other managers. Recently, he took a dig at Maurizio Sarri, the manager of Lazio, Roma’s cross-city rivals. The two teams are currently competing for a top-four finish in Serie A, and with only a handful of games left to play, the race is intense.

    Jose Mourinho and Sarri Maurizio

Mourinho’s team was initially part of the top four, but that changed after Juventus’ 15-point reduction was reversed by the league.

Despite his reputation for controversy, Mourinho’s impressive managerial record cannot be denied. His ability to win trophies and guide his teams to success has earned him a place among the greats of modern football.

Although he may have shed tears of joy or disappointment only once in his career, Mourinho’s passion for the sport and his determination to succeed remain a constant.

Mourinho began his managerial career in 2000 with Benfica, but he only spent a short time at the club before moving to Uniao de Leiria, where he spent two seasons. In 2002, he moved to Porto, where he enjoyed his first major success, winning the UEFA Cup in his first season.

After winning the Portuguese league title two years in a row, Mourinho moved to Chelsea in 2004, where he made an immediate impact. He won the Premier League title in his first season, setting a record for the most points in a season and the fewest goals conceded.

He also won the League Cup in his first season, and the following year, he won the Premier League title again, as well as the FA Cup.

In 2007, Mourinho left Chelsea and moved to Inter Milan, where he won the Serie A title in his first season. The following year, he won the treble, which included the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Champions League.

Mourinho then moved to Real Madrid in 2010, where he won the La Liga title in his second season.

After three seasons at Real Madrid, Mourinho returned to Chelsea, where he won the Premier League title in his first season back at the club.

Mario Balotelli has sold his Ferrari, Lamborghini, hints he is yet to sell others

Mario Balotelli, an Italian footballer of Ghanaian birth, is supposedly selling off his collection of high-end automobiles.

According to The Daily Mail, Mario Balotelli is eager to sell more cars after already selling his Ferrari and Lamborghini.

The former Inter Milan striker made this choice since he is not passionate about expensive and unique vehicles.

Balotelli revealed that he is still selling some of his expensive automobiles in an interview with the Italian podcast Blick.

He told Blick: “In my garage, I still have an RSQ8, 500 Abarth and GTR Nismo Nissan with 1400 hp. But I’m also selling the Abarth now.”

The former Manchester City’s love for luxurious cars was well documented with a number of cars in his fleet.

Whiles playing in England, Mario Balotelli got into trouble with law enforcement agencies for his cars.

While with City in 2012, he crashed his Bentley in Manchester city center, which saw his female passenger sent to the hospital.

Mario Balotelli’s Audi R8 is a write-off following the smash

That came two years after colliding with another car while driving his Audi A8 in Chester Road, Hulme.

Balotelli also famously crashed his late agent Mino Raiola’s car after reversing into a lamppost while with Nice in France.

The Italian forward’s bad luck on the road continued in 2020 when he was involved in a car accident at 6am on New Year’s Day.

Russia-Ukraine war: Ex-BBC journalist Bondarenko dies on duty at front line

Former journalist for BBC News Ukraine Oleksandr Bondarenko, was killed while performing his job on the front lines in Ukraine.

He volunteered for Ukraine’s territorial defence at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, working as a communications expert and media trainer and then becoming part of the military.

Details of how he was killed in action are not yet known.

Close friends said only that “death caught up with him in a battle”.

Friends, former BBC colleagues and Ukraine’s wider media community paid tributes to a talented journalist who went on to be a successful communications professional.

Known as Sasha or Sashko, Bondarenko was originally from Luhansk in eastern Ukraine.

He worked for the BBC’s Ukrainian Service from 2007 to 2011 as a news reporter, presenter and editor of radio programmes broadcast from Kyiv. He left the BBC to work for other media organisations.

At the start of the war he was in charge of special projects for leading Ukrainian communications agency, RMA, whose staff paid tribute to his intelligence, humour and voice.

He was one of many thousands of Ukrainians who have left their civilian jobs across all walks of life to defend their country from the Russian invasion.

Among well-known Ukrainians who enlisted were members of one of Ukraine’s top rock bands, Antytila, who became army medics, and broadcasters Pavlo Kazarin and Yurii Matsarskyi.

A number of journalists have lost their lives reporting on the war too. A Ukrainian fixer working with an Italian reporter was killed this week as they came under fire near the southern city Kherson.

Vasyl Samokhvalov of RMA paid tribute to Sasha Bondarenko as a man who volunteered on day one: “A human with a will of steel. A human with the clearest motivation. A human with the best music playlist.”

The former head of the BBC’s Ukrainian Service, Maciek Bernatt-Reszczynski, said the corporation was extremely lucky to have him on the Kyiv team: “It was always new challenges with this extraordinary man. Including the last, heroic one, to defend his country from aggression.”

Bondarenko graduated from Luhansk teacher-training college and started his career in journalism at a local radio station in the east of Ukraine, before working for leading Ukrainian TV channels and and then the BBC’s Ukrainian Service.

  • Capitol riot: Mike Pence ‘tell the truth’ in Trump’s criminal investigation

Capitol riot: Mike Pence ‘tell the truth’ in Trump’s criminal investigation

Former US Vice-President Mike Pence has testified as part of a criminal probe into Donald Trump’s alleged attempts to avenge his loss in the 2020 election.

According to sources quoted by the BBC’s US partner CBS News, Mr. Pence, 63, appeared before a federal grand jury in Washington, DC, for more than seven hours.

He received a subpoena earlier this year to give testimony while being sworn in.

Prosecutors questioned the suspects in a private setting.

His appearance on Thursday came just hours after an appeals court rejected a last-ditch bid by Mr Trump’s legal team to stop Mr Pence from testifying.

Mr Pence’s lawyers had also sought unsuccessfully to challenge the subpoena, arguing that his role as president of the Senate during his time in office meant he had congressional immunity.

His eventual testimony, which had been sought for months, is a major milestone in the two-year investigation which is being led by special counsel Jack Smith, a former war crimes prosecutor who was appointed to the role by Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The investigation has been gathering evidence about whether Mr Trump and his allies broke federal law in their efforts to challenge the result of the 2020 election, which was won by President Joe Biden.

It is also investigating the US Capitol riot on 6 January 2021, when Mr Trump’s supporters stormed the building in an effort to prevent the election result from being certified.

Mr Pence, who like all vice-presidents was also president of the Senate – a mostly ceremonial role – could in theory have derailed the final certification of the election result and delayed the transfer of power.

Mr Trump publicly pressured his vice-president to do so, and his refusal led him to lash out at Mr Pence.

Trump supporters then chanted “hang Mike Pence” as they stormed Congress and marauded through the corridors of the Capitol building as politicians, including Mr Pence, sheltered inside.

Mr Pence is considered a key witness in the investigation and, while it is not immediately clear what he told the grand jury, prosecutors will likely have asked him about his interactions with Mr Trump and his team in the days and weeks leading up to the riot.

“We’ll obey the law, we’ll tell the truth,” Mr Pence said in an interview with CBS on Sunday. “The story that I’ve been telling the American people all across the country… that’ll be the story I tell in that setting.”

    US former president, Mike Pence

Mr Pence has spoken publicly about the Capitol riot and the pressure he faced to challenge the election result. “President Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election,” he said in a speech in February.

In his memoir, So Help Me God, Mr Pence wrote that Mr Trump had attempted to pressure him into blocking the certification of the election result on the morning of the riot. “You’ll go down as a wimp,” the then-president apparently told Mr Pence.

He has also accused Mr Trump of endangering his family as well as others who were at the Capitol, saying history will hold him “accountable”.

Mr Pence is reportedly considering a presidential bid of his own in 2024, which would see him challenge his former boss directly for the Republican nomination.

Mr Trump, who has already launched his bid to return to the White House, was in New Hampshire on Thursday for a campaign event. When asked by NBC News about Mr Pence’s testimony, he commented: “I don’t know what he said, but I have a lot of confidence in him.”

The former president is facing other legal issues, including another federal investigation led by Mr Smith into the potential mishandling of classified documents.

There is also a separate investigation in Georgia into alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election result.

  • Rivalry: Haaland and Mbappe to replace Messi-Ronaldo debate

Rivalry: Haaland and Mbappe to replace Messi-Ronaldo debate

Kolo Toure doesn’t see any reason why Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe can’t take on the mantle of football’s greatest rivalry.

While Mbappe is having another outstanding season at Paris Saint-Germain and has already won the Golden Boot at the Qatar World Cup, Haaland scored his 49th goal of the season as Manchester City thrashed Arsenal 4-1 on Wednesday.

34 goals from Mbappe in all competitions When it comes to players from the top five leagues in Europe, only Haaland’s astounding total surpasses this term.

With Mbappe’s club-mate Lionel Messi reaching the twilight of his career and Cristiano Ronaldo having left Europe for Saudi Arabia, former City and Arsenal defender Toure has no doubt the France star, 24, and Haaland, 22, will be the players battling it out at the pinnacle of the game.

“Absolutely, absolutely. They are both incredibly great players,” Toure told Stats Perform.

“Young, hungry players with big qualities, playing for top clubs. You can see that the rivalry is coming, you can feel that, because they’re both goal scorers.

“They have different qualities obviously. There is one who really is a good scorer and there is one who – yeah he can score goals, but at the same time, he can provide, he can dribble.

“It’s going to be really interesting to see both of them fighting, because they are the next generation, definitely.”

Haaland, who supplied two assists for Kevin De Bruyne against Arsenal, lacked his usual clinical edge in the game, seeing several attempts saved by Aaron Ramsdale before he ultimately got his goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

    Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland

That took Haaland onto 33 league goals for the season, a new record for a 38-game Premier League campaign and one away from the competition’s best-ever tally of 34 (held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole).

“He is a very dominant striker,” Toure said of the Norway international.

“But, one thing I have to say is he chose the right thing for him, because he’s a goal scorer and he needs to play for a team that provides him the ball.

“When you have De Bruyne, you have [Bernardo] Silva, you have [Ilkay] Gundogan, you have Jack Grealish, unbelievable players around him providing the ball, the quality they’re showing to support him is incredibly great.

“That’s so clever from the boy, he made the right choice.

“He got to the right team. We’re going to do the work for him to just finish, because he’s a finisher.

“His control, the way he handled the ball to bring the team up when Arsenal were pressing them, it was unbelievable. I saw a player who can get the ball from the feet, take the ball, dribble past two, three, three players and have a shot.

“That shows the quality he has and there’s big room for him to just keep improving. He is in the right team, he has the right manager and he will keep improving definitely. But, what he has shown is unbelievable.”

Garnacho signs new, long-term contract to commit to Man Utd

A new, long-term contract with Manchester United has been inked by Alejandro Garnacho.

The 18-year-old winger signed a contract with the Premier League team on Friday that would keep him there until June 2028.

Garnacho has played for the Red Devils’ first team in 31 games, and it looks like there will be many more.

After graduating from the United academy, the player said: “When I joined this magnificent club, I dreamed of making my debut, playing at Old Trafford, scoring my first goal, and winning trophies with this emblem on my breast.

“I feel very proud and emotional to have experienced these moments already, together with my family who have supported me every step of the way.

“We are all humbled to have this chance to continue our journey at Manchester United and I have already begun to work on achieving the next set of targets and ambitions.

“The manager and his coaching staff have helped me to improve in every way, and with their support, I am developing each day to help the team to be successful.

“I am relishing the future and can’t wait to create more special memories with this group, in front of our amazing supporters.”

The teenager has been out since last month due to an ankle injury, but is set to make his return as United attempt to secure a top-four finish and win the FA Cup.

United boss Erik ten Hag on Friday revealed Garnacho will not be allowed to represent Argentina when they host the U20 World Cup, which starts on May 20.

  • Bruno Fernandes is Ten Hag’s ‘idol’ after striking recovery efforts by the midfielder

Bruno Fernandes is Ten Hag’s ‘idol’ after striking recovery efforts by the midfielder

In order for Manchester United to cultivate a winning culture, Bruno Fernandes has been recognised by Erik ten Hag as the role model that all of the team’s players must emulate.

The midfielder was photographed in a protective boot after fracturing his ankle during United’s FA Cup semifinal victory over Brighton on Sunday, but he was able to recover in time to lead the team in Thursday’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Fernandes played a key role in assisting Marcus Rashford’s goal after Jadon Sancho had given the visitors the early lead and put United up two goals at the break.

Spurs hit back after the break and claimed a point thanks to goals from Pedro Porro and Son Heung-min.

After watching his team let a two-goal lead slip, United’s manager praised his skipper’s readiness to suffer for the cause and called on the players to make Fernandes their inspiration if they are to find the consistency to compete on all fronts.

United lead Spurs by six points and have two games in hand in the race to finish in the top four, and in June will look to add the FA Cup to the Carabao Cup they have already won when they face Manchester City at Wembley.

“I think as Man United and as a top team then you have to compete and go for the win in every competition you are in, so that’s what we are doing,” said Ten Hag.

“That is the culture we want to construct, so that is what we are doing. It has to be in the mindset of every player and every employee who is working for Manchester United.”

Of Fernandes’s recovery he said: “It was tough, a big compliment on Bruno. He absolutely doesn’t want to miss this game and he did everything to get fit.

“I think he is the example, and that you have to suffer and you have to sacrifice when you want to play on the top level, you want to achieve something.

“So once again he showed there how great a captain he is, how he has taken responsibility, even when he is not 100 per cent fit.

“But he did the job, he was important in this game as well. Hopefully the team can, not learn, but see him as an inspiration and do the same.”

The draw with Spurs was the second time in two weeks that United had thrown away a two-goal lead, following their late collapse against Sevilla in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final.

They subsequently capitulated in the return meeting in Spain, losing 3-0 to crash out of the competition.

There have also been limp defeats to Newcastle and Liverpool, the latter a 7-0 hammering, but Ten Hag was quick to remind critics that his team have beaten the top two in the Premier League and the La Liga leaders this campaign.

“We had some games I like,” said Ten Hag. “Two weeks ago against Forest (a 2-0 win), I think that was almost optimum. You see it’s not so easy to play Forest, you see Liverpool struggling, you see Brighton struggling there. That was a very good performance on our side.

“We had more games, I would have to think which games. Especially I think City (at home), that was a brilliant game. We had more, I think Arsenal, both games we played very well. We had many games where we were very dominant.

“Betis, Barcelona. So we had our games where we played very good football.”

Ancelotti upset, demands ‘justice’ for Vini Jnr as opponents target him for ‘nasty’ attacks

Carlo Ancelotti has urged authorities to administer “justice” in order to shield Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior from hostile opponents.

During another strong LaLiga season, Vinicius has contributed 18 goal involvements (10 goals, 8 assists), but the Brazilian has frequently faced harsh treatment from rival defenders.

The winger was once again the target of attention during Tuesday’s 4-2 loss at Girona, receiving a booking for his enraged reaction to Santiago Bueno’s harsh ball-kicking.

Vinicius has drawn 113 fouls in LaLiga this season, comfortably the highest tally in the competition – Rayo Vallecano’s Isi Palazon is second with 87.

Vinicius has also been targeted by racist chants from opposing supporters on multiple occasions this term, causing LaLiga to release several statements in support of the 22-year-old.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Almeria, Ancelotti repeated his calls for Vinicius to receive more protection on and off the pitch, saying: “He’s a player that dribbles one-on-one. In order to stop these players, people stop them with fouls.

“We are concerned for our player, and the only way to preserve these players is justice. Only this can prevent injuries from happening.

“It’s true that Vinicius suffers a lot of nasty tackles. In the past there were other players, like Diego Maradona and Pele, who also suffered a lot from these challenges.

“We have been very lucky that Vinicius has a strong physique and is capable of enduring them. He has not had any injuries.

“There are two topics – one inside the pitch and one outside the pitch. One of them, on the outside, is bad for society. A modern society cannot be like that.”

Galtier eulogises youngsters ‘idol’ Ramos as PSG prepare for Lorient showdown

As Paris Saint-Germain prepares to play Lorient in an attempt to clinch the Ligue 1 championship, Christophe Galtier has lauded the contribution Sergio Ramos has made this season.

The former Real Madrid defender joined the team before the 2021–22 season, although his injury-plagued season saw him struggle for playing time.

However, after a successful preseason and a medical clean-up, the former Spain star has been one of PSG’s top players in 2022–2023.

Ahead of his side’s clash with Lorient, where they can help maintain their eight-point gap at the summit, Galtier has highlighted the impact made by Ramos.

“Sergio had a difficult season last year linked to calf injuries,” he said. “[This time,] he had complete preparation. He is a hyper-professional player.

“When you have such a record at this age, it is because you put all the chances on your side. He brings his experience [and] he is an important player in the locker room.

“There have been exchanges between the sports management and him. I am very satisfied with his season and with what he brings on matchdays but also in everyday life.

“He is an example, which all our young players must follow.”

Ramos was integral to helping arrest PSG’s slide earlier this month, netting in their 2-0 win over Nice to bring a two-game wobble to a close.

He was overlooked by Spain for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and confirmed his retirement from the international game following discussions with new coach Luis de la Fuente.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s comeback to the Premier League in 2021 did not go as expected.

Under Ole Gunner Solskjaer, Manchester United had just finished in second place, and following a respectable summer of new additions, there was a growing belief that they could contend for the championship.

Along with Ronaldo, Raphael Varane joined after a successful stint in Real Madrid, and Jadon Sancho was recruited from Borussia Dortmund.

While Ronaldo had a splendid season individually, United ended the season in sixth with their lowest-ever point tally.

Solskjaer was sacked midseason after damaging defeats to Watford, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Raphael Rangnick was appointed on an interim basis, but he, too, couldn’t do anything to stem the rot.

    Ronaldo’s impact on dressing room

It has always been up to debate why a team that was performing so well in the 2020/2021 season couldn’t replicate such performances, especially with the arrival of a serial winner and proven goalscorer like Ronaldo.

As the Athletic reports, the squad might have been overwhelmed by Ronaldo’s presence in the dressing room.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is a known perfectionist. From his gym routines to his high desire to win constantly, it looks like this had a negative impact on the rest of the squad. In his final interview with Piers Morgan as a United player, he openly condemned the club’s facilities.

Even more interestingly, video analysts observed that there was a specific player who always tried to pass to Ronaldo to receive praise. His form dipped with Ronaldo’s presence at the club given as a part reason. The player is not mentioned.

Among the players who lost their form include Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire.

    Rojo slams Ole Gunnar

It was earlier reported that former Manchester United defender, Marcos Rojo has launched a scathing attack on his former manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and embattled club captain, Harry Maguire.

Rojo plied his professional trade with the Red Devils between 2014 and 2021 but was rarely used during his time at Old Trafford.

In a no-holds-barred interview, the combative centre-back revealed Solskjaer had informed him that Maguire had to play every week despite the high-profile errors he committed.

  • Modric’s miss in Real Madrid-Copa del Rey clash ‘hurt’ the Madridstas

Modric’s miss in Real Madrid-Copa del Rey clash ‘hurt’ the Madridstas

Due to a thigh injury, Luka Modric may miss Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey final match against Osasuna as well as the first leg of the Champions League semifinal versus Manchester City.

During Madrid’s unexpected 4-2 loss to Girona on Tuesday, which kept them 11 points behind LaLiga’s top team Barcelona, Modric suffered an injury to his left leg.

The setback comes at a bad moment for Los Blancos as they prepare to visit City three days after trying to break a nine-year drought by winning the Copa del Rey on May 6.

Asked about Modric’s fitness ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Almeria, Ancelotti acknowledged losing the Croatian’s experience would be a big setback.

“He got an injury in the game against Girona. We will see how he progresses in the next few days,” Ancelotti said.

“He will be doubtful for the Copa final. We must evaluate him, we are hurt, but it can happen. I hope he recovers for the important matches.

“We have very important midfielders like Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni. We have many resources.

“But to replace Luka… you cannot replace his experience in these kinds of games.”

Madrid have won just four of their past nine league games (D2 L3) to allow Barca to pull clear at the summit.

Pushed on why Madrid had failed to replicate their cup heroics in LaLiga this term, Ancelotti said: “I don’t know, it’s a matter of concentration, it’s normal, not always being able to be at the top.

“The schedule is very demanding and I see many coaches complaining about this. We are human and it’s the truth, sometimes I can’t prepare all the games in the same way either.

“In some games you concentrate better, and in others it’s worse. It happens to everyone, good days and bad ones.

“You have to trust the players. I see the group in great shape. What happened last season was unforgettable and we want to repeat it.”

‘Now I am ready to share’ – Brittney Griner to share ‘devastating’ experience on Russian detainment

The WNBA player Brittney Griner, who was unlawfully detained in Russia and later released, is penning a memoir that will be published in the spring of 2019.

“After an incredibly challenging 10 months in detainment, I am grateful to have been rescued and to be home.

Griner stated in a press release issued by Alfred A. Knopf on Tuesday.

After being detained in February 2022 and convicted to nine years in prison on drug-smuggling charges after Russian police discovered cannabis oil in her suitcase, the two-time Olympic gold champion spent over 300 days in their detention.

Griner, who the US State Department deemed wrongfully detained, was released last December in a prisoner swap that involved Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.

Griner had for years played on a Russian women’s basketball team during the WNBA off-season and was detained in a Moscow airport as she traveled to rejoin the team.

“That day was the beginning of an unfathomable period in my life which only now am I ready to share,” she said in the news release.

“The primary reason I traveled back to Russia for work that day was because I wanted to make my wife, family, and teammates proud.”

Her detainment spotlighted the salary caps WNBA players face in the US – which has pushed athletes to go overseas to earn more during their off-seasons.

She will make her return to the WNBA next season after signing a one-year deal in February with the Phoenix Mercury.

The book announcement comes after Russian authorities last month detained Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who the US State Department deemed wrongfully detained on Monday. Detained American Paul Whelan has also been held in Russian custody since 2018.

“By writing this book, I also hope to raise awareness surrounding other Americans wrongfully detained abroad,” Griner said

  • Tottenham’s anger over 2-0 first-half defeat couldn’t take more hammering from Utd – Son

Tottenham’s anger over 2-0 first-half defeat couldn’t take more hammering from Utd – Son

Tottenham battled back to tie 2-2 with Manchester United despite knowing there must be no recurrence of their “unacceptable” St James’ Park disgrace, according to Heung-min.

Spurs’ dreams of finishing in the top four of the Premier League were dashed on Sunday by a 6-1 thrashing at Newcastle.

After that humiliating loss on Tyneside, interim manager Cristian Stellini was removed of his duties, and Ryan Mason assumed control of the team until the end of the season.

Tottenham looked to be in danger of suffering another mauling when they trailed the Red Devils 2-0 following goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

But they rallied in the second half to salvage a point at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, Pedro Porro halving the deficit and Son equalising after being set up by Harry Kane.

Son said: “We wanted to give everything and that was the dressing room speech.

“We couldn’t let the game go. We were really angry about it, we didn’t deserve to be 2-0 down at half-time.

“The last week was unacceptable and we didn’t want to repeat that. We feel really, really sorry for the performance and result and we wanted to bring a good energy.

“We really appreciated [the fans’] support and they were fighting with us.”

  • Musalli Al-Muammar, executive behind CR7’s Al-Nassr signing steps down – Reports

Musalli Al-Muammar, executive behind CR7’s Al-Nassr signing steps down – Reports

A disappointing season reportedly led to the resignation of the Al-Nassr executive who assisted in brokering the agreement to sign Cristiano to the Saudi side.

The Al-Nassr club president Musalli Al-Muammar has resigned, according to a report from the Saudi Gazette, as the team is expected to have a terrible 2022–23 season. Al-Muammar handled the signing of Ronaldo earlier in the season.

Following the 2022 World Cup and a shocking, candid interview in which he sharply criticised Manchester United, which led to the club’s voluntary release of him, Ronaldo left for the Middle East in a mega-money deal.

However, despite a few shows of brilliance, his frustrations have continued and tempers have flared with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner unable to help the club towards silverware.

The report claims that Al-Muammar has already submitted his resignation letter to the Ministry of Sports and the current board of directors at the club is to be dissolved. A new board and president could be decided before the end of the season.

Since Ronaldo’s arrival, the club has actually found itself in a downward trajectory. League defeats against title rivals Al-Ittihad mean they are now likely to miss out on the title, while a 1-0 defeat against Al-Wehda saw them eliminated from the King Cup of Champions in the semi-final.

Manager Rudi Garcia was also dismissed following a run of poor form, while Ronaldo has let his frustrations boil over on a number of occasions amid his side’s struggles.

  • Real Madrid seem to want a Zinedine Zidane return, what happens with Carlo Ancelotti?

Real Madrid seem to want a Zinedine Zidane return, what happens with Carlo Ancelotti?

Two years after leaving Real Madrid as manager once more, Zinedine Zidane might be ready for a shock return this summer.

Carlo Ancelotti’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu is uncertain in light of Los Blancos’ shaky defence of their La Liga championship this year and the interest shown in him by Brazil’s national squad.

If Ancelotti were to depart, the Spanish powerhouses would require a new head coach, and it appears like Zidane would be a leading contender to replace the former Chelsea boss.

According to Foot Mercato, Real Madrid are in contact with Zidane over possibly returning for a third spell as head coach. The Frenchman has been out of work since leaving in 2021, but that could be about to change.

Zizou resigned from his post in 2018 but following Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari’s brief disappointing spells in charge of Madrid, the three-time FIFA Player of the Year returned to the club less a year later.

    Zidane’s managerial career

The 50-year-old enjoyed two special stints as manager of Real Madrid, leading the club to a hat-trick of Champions League triumphs in his first spell, along with several other titles and won the La Liga title in his second stint.

Zidane led Real Madrid to as many as 11 trophies across two spells before stepping away in 2021, per Madrid Universal.

Since then, he has been unattached and has been waiting for the France national team job. But with Didier Deschamps renewing his contract, that is no longer an option.

Ancelotti apologises to Real Madrid fans

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Real Madrid saw any hope of them retaining their La Liga title disappear after they were embarrassingly thrashed 4-2 by Girona on Tuesday night.

Despite having 72% possession, Los Blancos, who had not conceded a goal in La Liga in their previous six games, were outplayed by the Catalans and created far fewer chances than the hosts.

Carlo Ancelotti has now apologised to the Real Madrid fans following the embarrassing defeat. He has vowed that the team will bounce back in its remaining competitions.

  • Mario Balotelli wants an eye kept on Napoli star Victor Osimhen

Mario Balotelli wants an eye kept on Napoli star Victor Osimhen

Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen has been regarded by Italian striker Mario Balotelli as one of the best players since the renowned Lionel Messi era.

The former Manchester City striker said that Rafael Leao of AC Milan would one day be as good as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

Osimhen and Leao might become elite players, according to Balotelli, if they keep their focus.

The former Liverpool forward recently appeared on Muschi Selvaggio’s podcast.

    Balotelli said:

“As long as Messi plays, I will continue to say that he is the strongest player around. Afterwards, perhaps, it will be the turn of Haaland and Mbappe.

“Also keep an eye on Leao and Osimhen: with the right head, they can reach the level of Erling and Kylian.”

    Why Osimhen didn’t join Arsenal

Meanwhile, Osimhen once had a chance to join English Premier League club, Arsenal but he preferred a move to Germany, where he joined Wolfsburg in 2016.

He initially signed a pre-contract with the Bundesliga outfit and by 2017, he officially joined the club.

The striker had been noticed following his exploits at the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile, where he scored ten goals.

Osimhen admitted the Gunners was a good team for young players but felt the Bundesliga outfit was his best move.

    Bayern intensify interest in Osimhen

Earlier, it was reported that Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are reportedly set to offer everything possible to land Victor Osimhen at the Allianz Arena.

Quite a number of clubs are on the trail of the Nigerian international, who has netted 25 goals for Napoli this season.

The Italian club have one hand on the Scudetto already and are just one win away from claiming the Serie A title for the first time in more than three decades.

  • Premier League: Win or lose, Tottenham ‘willing to fight’ for upper echelons

Premier League: Win or lose, Tottenham ‘willing to fight’ for upper echelons

After a comeback draw with Manchester United, Ryan Mason believes that Tottenham is “willing to fight” for a spot in the Premier League’s upper echelons.

In his first game in command after taking over for Cristian Stellini, Pedro Porro and Heung-Min Son’s goals allowed the interim manager to end the team’s losing streak.

Mason has experience in the Spurs managerial spotlight; two years ago, he served as caretaker after Jose Mourinho left the club and oversaw the Carabao Cup final.

Mason was ecstatic to see a response from his team following a 6-1 defeat to Newcastle in their previous match. This shows their drive.

He told BT Sport: “In football, you can win, lose or draw but the most important [thing] is that we react together. I have a team that’s willing to fight.

“I thought in the second half, we were outstanding [with] the character we showed after last Sunday. I hope the fans can see that we were a team today.

“Those players in there, I know I’ve got men who when they pull together, they’re a very strong team. That’s my job, to inspire them and make sure we act as a team.”

Goalscorer Son, who was supplied for his point-clinching finish by regular partner Harry Kane, suggested Spurs’ performance was born out of frustration over recent failings.

He said: “I thought we didn’t deserve to be 2-0 down in the first half. We played quite well, we had the chances to score. But we weren’t clinical enough.

“We didn’t want to let the fans down, we wanted to give everything and that was the dressing room speech. We couldn’t let the game go. We were really angry about it.

“Football is all about the fans. The last week was unacceptable, and we didn’t want to repeat that. With them, we really appreciated their support. They were fighting with us”.

  • Ministerial appointments: NPP activist flaws Ken Agyapong’s claim of ‘North takes all claim’

Ministerial appointments: NPP activist flaws Ken Agyapong’s claim of ‘North takes all claim’

Krobea Kwabena Asante, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist, has provided proof to refute a recent allegation that northerners were given preference in ministerial selections.

Kennedy Agyapong, a candidate for the NPP’s flagbearer position, said in a widely shared video about his campaigning in the Western Region that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government had offended him by appointing persons of northern ancestry to key positions in his administration.

He told the gathering that he failed to understand whether Northerners in the party are the only people who voted for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be elevated to such enviable positions.

Krobea Asante via a Facebook post gave a breakdown of all ministerial positions under the government since 2021.

“I just did my analysis of ministerial appointments from 2021- to date and the data shows that the argument of Hon Ken is not accurate,” his post read in part.

“Again, the phraseology “North” is very problematic in its usage. The 5 regions are different and so when making analysis it should be region specific. Can it also be said that when analysising appointments from the South we should add all the 11 regions we know for our computation?” he added.

    What Ken Agyapong said:

Kennedy Agyapong was speaking in the Western Region when he made this known charging members of the party in the area to also crave to enjoy the spoils of the NPP they have also labored for.

“We were here in the Western Region when they appointed the Vice President from the North, Interior Minister from the North, Defence Minister, Sports Minister, Lands Minister, Tourism Minister from the North. Why? Are they the only ones who vote?

He continued “If they want to be tribal, we will also be tribal. The party does not belong to them. They have used the Central and Western for years and after they have made it, they want to treat us as their slaves. We are not animals, we are human beings.”

  • Forest star Neco to miss rest of season over fractured jaw

Forest star Neco to miss rest of season over fractured jaw

Neco Williams, a defender for Nottingham Forest, is “gutted” to have to sit out the rest of the season after fracturing his jaw in his team’s 3-1 victory over Brighton.

On Wednesday, Forest won for the first time in a dozen games to increase their chances of avoiding relegation.

After defeating the Seagulls, Forest moved one point above the bottom three teams in the Premier League.

The victory, however, came at a price as Brennan Johnson and Williams collided unintentionally, dealing Williams a serious wound.

He was stretchered off and immediately taken to hospital, where he had surgery and is set to return home on Friday afternoon, according to a statement from Forest on Thursday evening.

While Forest did not give an indication of how long he would be out for, the Welshman himself indicated he will play no further part in the campaign with five matches remaining.

He wrote on Twitter: Absolutely buzzing the lads got the win yesterday but at the same time I am gutted to say my seasons over for sustaining a broken jaw.

“I will do everything I can to help my teammates bring home those points every game.”

The 22-year-old has made 34 appearances in all competitions this season since joining Forest from Liverpool last summer in a transfer worth £17million.

  • Silva talks up in-form City ‘beasts’ De Bruyne and Haaland

Silva talks up in-form City ‘beasts’ De Bruyne and Haaland

Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland have been referred to as “beasts” by Bernardo Silva after the explosive pair caused havoc in Manchester City’s crucial victory over Arsenal.

In a 4-1 victory on Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium, De Bruyne notched two goals off of assists from Haaland and one more for John Stones before the Norwegian registered his own goal.

The win gave the treble-chasing champions a tight grip on the Premier League title battle as they closed the gap on the front-runners to two points with two games remaining.

Haaland has now scored a stunning 33 goals in the competition this season – one short of the record – and laid on seven assists while De Bruyne’s figures are seven and 16 respectively.

City midfielder Silva said: “We knew that they could come doing man-to-man and we tried to stretch them as much as possible because, if they do man-to-man against us, they have to deal with Kevin and Erling up front. It’s never going to be easy in that spot.

“It was perfect for Kevin. They gave space for Kevin and to Erling to run. When you give them this kind of space, they are so difficult to defend.

“Two beasts running, their movements – Kevin with the passes, Erling with the scoring – this was the opposite.

“They did it perfectly, they created lots of chances. We could have scored even more.”

City now have a superb chance to emulate Manchester United’s 1999 achievement of winning all three of the remaining trophies on offer.

As well as being in command of their title destiny they are through to the FA Cup final, where they will face United, and they take on Real Madrid in the last four of the Champions League next month.

Manager Pep Guardiola has been reluctant to publicly discuss the prospect of winning the treble.

Silva insists the subject is not off-limits but the focus is very much on taking one game at a time.

The Portuguese said: “No, he hasn’t banned anything! We’re big men and we talk about whatever we want.

“But these players know that the best way to achieve good things is to think just about the next one. If we don’t beat Fulham on Sunday we put ourselves in a difficult position to win the Premier League.

“If we don’t win the Premier League we arrive in the final of the FA Cup and in the semi-finals of the Champions League not in a good momentum.

“We want to try and stay in this good momentum to try and go as far as possible. The team is doing very well at the moment and we’re going to try and keep it that way.”

  • As it has been in other games, United lost ‘control’ in Tottenham draw – Eriksen

As it has been in other games, United lost ‘control’ in Tottenham draw – Eriksen

Christian Eriksen asserts that Manchester United allowed themselves to lose “control” of their Premier League matchup with Tottenham.

Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford’s first-half goals had given Erik ten Hag’s team a dominating advantage in North London.

Pedro Porro and HUneg-Min Son were able to salvage a point in the first game under interim manager Ryan Mason, but they were unable to capitalise on their lead.

It is not the first time this season United have allowed themselves to be overrun by an opponent chasing the game, with Eriksen conceding they failed to command the game.

“I think we took a bit of the gas off,” he told BT Sport. “That was our problem. I think it has been [like] that for a few games, where we are sharp and [have not] kept it going.

“I think we lost a bit of energy, a bit of control, and they got belief, and it went the other way. That’s how it goes normally. When you are 2-0 down, anything can change quickly.

“We didn’t have the control to finish them off, [and we] gave them the chance to score the first goal. That gave [them] belief.”

The result leaves United two points off third-place Newcastle United, albeit with two games in hand on the Magpies, and six points ahead of fifth-place Spurs.

That cushion will likely help them consolidate their top-four spot before too long, but Eriksen cautioned the task must still be completed before it can be celebrated.

“There’s still a few games to go,” he added. “We need to keep going and get the belief back to finish it off. We need to get it over the line.”

Manager Ten Hag echoed the midfielder’s comments, though he refused to apportion blame on Bruno Fernandes for a glaring second-half miss.

The Portuguese, who captained the side in Harry Maguire’s absence through injury, hit the crossbar in a one-on-one situation with Fraser Forster shortly after Porro had pulled one back.

“[We] don’t blame it on one player,” Ten Hag added.  “We weren’t clinical enough, and I think we had to score more. The goals we conceded were too easy, and we could have avoided them.”

Ten Hag details his substitution that threw Utd’s 2-0 lead over Tottenham away

Erik ten Hag has publicly for the terrible decisions he made during the April 27 match against Tottenham Hotspur.

In front of their own home supporters, Tottenham came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Manchester United.

Spurs supporters were expecting another humiliation after their surrender to Newcastle over the weekend, but Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford set United on their way.

After the break, though, January acquisition Pedro Porro drew one back, and Spurs missed a few good chances to either back level or even go ahead.

With United still leading, ten Hag surprised many by withdrawing Sancho and Cristian Eriksen just after the hour mark.

The two were one of the better performers of the night, with Fred and Anthony MArtial taking their place. 10 minutes later, the Dutch tactician followed it up with another dubious change, withdrawing Aaron Wan Bissaka for Tyrell Malacia.

Bissaka is one of the best 1 v 1 defenders in the world and the feeling would be, he needs to be on the pitch when you are protecting the lead.

His replacement, Malacia, was culpable for Spurs’ second goal as he allowed Harry Kane with enormous space to lay it out for Heung-min Son on a platter.

However, Ten Hag defended his ideas despite watching his side drop points again due to partly his changes.

“If you have seen the game, you have seen also in the period after half time we lose control in the game and I prepared the subs already before the 2-1 and you could see that goal coming.

“With Fred, you bring energy, one who can win the ball. On Sunday, he was brilliant. And with Martial, you bring one who can keep the ball and you can have Rashford, Antony and Bruno make runs behind and that was the idea.” as quoted by MEN.

Samuel Eto led FECAFOOT begins construction of 12 stadiums across Cameroon

Sam Eto’o, the head of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), has announced intentions to build 12 stadiums across the nation.

The goal of the extensive construction of football facilities, according to Eto’o, is to “give everyone an opportunity.”

In December 2021, the former FC Barcelona striker took over as head of the Cameroon FA and made sure that the Indomitable Lions qualified for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

He has now promised that stadiums will be built across several Cameroon cities in a bid to hunt for more talent.

Actu Cameroun reports that the project is about to begin as the implementation phase is already on course.

For the chairman of the said commission, Samuel Eto’o, thinks that talents are hidden in areas where quality sports infrastructure is non-existent.

“Samuel Eto’o wants to give everyone the opportunity to be able to play football “, summed up Daniel Mongue Nyamsi.

Meanwhile, time African footballer of the year Samuel Eto’o has expressed his gratitude following his induction into the Inter Milan Hall of Fame.

The 40-year-old footballer turned administrator, together with a host of other Inter Milan icons, were inducted into the 2021 edition of the Hall of Fame.’

Eto’o joined the Blue and Blacks in a swap deal with Zlatan Ibrahimovic with the latter heading to Barcelona in 2009 on the back of a treble-winning campaign with Guardiola’s all-conquering Blaugrana.

‘No excuses’ for Barcelona defeat ‘as We lacked understanding of the game – Xavi

Barcelona lost to Rayo Vallecano 2-1, missing the opportunity to extend their lead over the competition’s field to 14 points, and Xavi felt there were “no excuses” for the result.

Barca seemed poised to end their four-year league title drought in the upcoming weeks, and Real Madrid’s 4-2 loss to Girona on Tuesday offered them the chance to edge farther ahead.

Nonetheless, Rayo won the match rightfully thanks to goals from Alvaro Garcia and Fran Garcia, with Robert Lewandowski’s late volley serving only as a small consolation.

Barca have only lost three league games all season, but the Blaugrana have now taken just five points from the last 12 available to them in LaLiga, leaving Xavi to rue a missed opportunity.

“We didn’t have a good game, we weren’t comfortable. They were very intense and aggressive and they didn’t let us play,” Xavi said.

“We lacked understanding of the game, we abused long passes. There are no excuses, Rayo deserved to win.

“We tried with courage until the end, but they deserved the victory. We have a margin and there is one less game left.

“We have to think about Saturday. The message to the players is that the league has not been won. It costs a lot to win this league and every game away from home is a war.

“This defeat weighs us down and annoys us. Today we failed and we are leaving annoyed because it was a very good opportunity.”

Having lost on their last league trip to Rayo in October 2021, Barca have now suffered back-to-back defeats in Vallecas for just the second time in their history, also doing so in December 2002.

Defender Ronald Araujo believed the hosts warranted their win, saying: “Rayo deserved the victory. They played well.

“In the first half we weren’t up to it, but we still have a good points advantage. Now we have two home games that we have to win.”

Barca welcome Real Betis to Camp Nou in their next game on Saturday, holding an 11-point lead over Madrid at the top of LaLiga and requiring a maximum of 11 more points to clinch the title

Brittney Griner: This why she has a deep voice

For a long time now, the Phoenix Mercury hotshot has faced challenges and issues.

It’s been a roller-coaster ride for the Mercury hotshot.

After overcoming her difficult experience in Russia, Brittney Griner served as an example to many. Over the past year or so, she has experienced a lot of difficulties.

For those who don’t know, she was imprisoned for nine months in a Russian prison after being found guilty of charges that included marijuana possession.

She was eventually freed in December 2022.

Brittney Griner reveals why is her voice so deep as video goes viral on Twitter

In her most recent book, In “My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Floor,” she recently talked about it.

NBA fans have previously attacked Brittney for her voice. “I was shaken af when I heard Brittney Griner’s voice,” a fan tweeted, implying that she wasn’t prepared for her voice to sound a specific way. It appears that she was subjected to the same offensive comments when she was a little child as well.

It was difficult for her to see herself doing anything to indicate that she was any more unique than people already believed, she said in her book. “I was already getting picked on for being odd, for looking like a guy, for having a deep voice,” she wrote.

This would be the first time Brittney publicly discussed the issues she had with her gender or appearance.

She is a homosexual woman, and it appears that her schoolmates didn’t share this viewpoint. They verbally attacked Griner, and it has affected her to this day.

What other revelations did she make?

Griner also remembered the incident when she was expelled from the basketball team after getting into a brawl. Her father Raymond Griner also seems to have been worried by the fact that she appeared and behaved differently from the others. She also struggled at school. After all, she didn’t fit in with the other females because she was different.

Adebayor ‘built’ and ‘destroyed’ his own reputation – Thomas Partey

Thomas Partey, an Arsenal midfielder, said that Emmanuel Adebayor, a former striker, ruined his reputation at the club.

One of the rare footballers from Africa who have a successful career at Arsenal is Adebayor. Yet when he was playing for Manchester City and wildly celebrated his goal in front of Arsenal supporters, he got into trouble with the supporters.

Partey thinks the Togolese legend’s actions destroyed his reputation in North London.

“I think he gave and then destroyed. Everything he gave here was fantastic but when he scored against Arsenal and celebrated, he destroyed,” he told SuperSports.

Partey, nonetheless, acknowledged Adebabyor’s quality but insisted that he destroyed his legacy at Arsenal after leaving the club.

“For me, he is a fantastic player and one of the best strikers in Africa but if you want to talk about here, he built everything, and here and after he destroyed.”

Adebayor’s move to Manchester City in the January transfer window in 2009 did not sit down well with the fans who turned against him.

The striker, fortunately, had a reply to the abuse he received when he scored in Man City’s 4-2 win at the Etihad. When his header went in for the fourth goal, he run at the length of the pitch and did a knee slide in front of the Arsenal fans.

Speaking after the game Adebayor said: “I was being abused by people who six months ago were singing my name and the abuse was for no reason. There is only so much abuse a man can take until he reaches breaking point.

An offer came in for me and, as I understand it, Arsene [Wenger] and the club accepted [it]. It was not my fault I left, it was Arsene who wanted to accept the offer for me.”

Emmanuel Adebayor was fined £25,000 for his celebration.

Chelsea supporters depart Stamford Bridge after the Blues’ 5th demoralizing loss

Before the final whistle of Chelsea’s Wednesday night Premier League match against Brentford, several Chelsea supporters were seen departing Stamford Bridge.

Having lost four straight games under Frank Lampard, the Blues were eager to pick up their first win of the season when they played the Bees.

However, the 2021 Champions League winners went on to put on another terrible display at home as Lampard earned his fifth straight loss since he returned as caretaker manager.

The hosts appeared to be in control of the early exchanges before Brentford took the lead in the 37th-minute, courtesy of Cesar Azpilicueta’s own goal.

According to the Evening Standard, the visitors dented Chelsea’s hopes of a comeback after Bryan Mbeumo doubled the advantage with 12 minutes left on the clock.

    Chelsea fans spotted leaving stadium

Unsurprisingly, a number of Chelsea fans were unable to watch the remainder of the match and were spotted leaving Stamford Bridge before the full-time whistle.

The Sun reports the Blues faithful vacated the stadium with 13 minutes left, a clear indication of their disappointment following a disastrous campaign this season across all competitions.

Their defeat at the hands of Brentford leaves Chelsea occupying 11th place, with little to no hope of playing in Europe next season.

Lampard’s men will be hoping to make amends next Tuesday when they take on London rivals, Arsenal, who have also hit a rough patch in recent days.

    Lampard defenders infuriated Chelsea fans

Sports Brief also reported on club legend and caretaker manager, Lampard defending fans booing players after a fifth successive loss to Brentford on Wednesday.

Azpilicueta’s own-goal and Mbeumo’s late strike condemned the Blues to their latest demoralising loss since the sacking of Graham Potter earlier in the year.

  • Pele, ‘great’ now regarded as adjective in Portuguese dictionary

Pele, ‘great’ now regarded as adjective in Portuguese dictionary

The football player “Pele,” who is regarded as the best in history, is now an adjective.

The term “pele” was added to the more than 167,000 words in the Brazilian-printed Michaelis Portuguese dictionary on Wednesday.

The 265 million or more Portuguese speakers around the world can now use the word “pele” to refer to something or someone outstanding, the same way in which it is currently used colloquially in Brazil.

“The expression already used to refer to someone who is the best at what they do has been eternalized on the pages of the dictionary!” the Pele Foundation said on Instagram.

Under the new entry, the word is defined as “exceptional, incomparable, unique” — qualities associated with “The King” of football who died in December at the age of 82.

The online version of the Michaelis also provides useful examples: “He is the pele of basketball… She is the pele of Brazilian drama.”

For now, the word has been included only in the Michaelis online version, though it will be added to printed dictionaries in future.

It is the result of a campaign by the Pele Foundation, the sports channel SporTV and the Sao Paulo football club Santos where Pele played for much of his career.

Pele scored a world record 1,281 goals during his more than two decades playing with Santos (1956-74), the Brazilian national team, and the New York Cosmos (1975-77).

  • Hammers boss Moyes blasts ‘disrespectful’ VAR

Hammers boss Moyes blasts ‘disrespectful’ VAR

West Ham was denied a late penalty as they fell to a 2-1 loss to Liverpool, and David Moyes charged the VAR with “disrespect.”

Thiago’s arm touched the ball when he challenged Danny Ings in the box, but the referee decided not to give a penalty, prompting Moyes to confront Chris Kavanagh aggressively on the pitch at full time.

The Hammers manager believed that VAR Neil Swarbrick ought to have at the very least instructed Kavanagh to watch the event on the pitchside monitor.

“I’ve a chance to see it since,” said Moyes. “The difference for me is, and you’ll probably hear them coming out with some rubbish about he needed to break his fall, but if you lunge it’s your own fault for lunging and being out of control in the tackle.

“You can break your fall by sliding and having to put your arm down but when you lunge for the ball, for me, that completely nullifies anything they’re talking about breaking your fall.  I think it’s a penalty kick.

“I think the hardest thing to take is the disrespect from VAR, that VAR wouldn’t have at least said to the referee that this might be worth having a look. That tells me they don’t see that as even close to a decision. I’m surprised.

“Somebody in VAR didn’t have enough football knowledge to understand that this could be close.

“Whoever it was chose not to send the referee. VAR, for me, showed no respect whatsoever to us.

“The handball rule has changed dramatically and I don’t like a lot of it, to be fair. Do I think the boy meant tonight for it to hit his hand? No I didn’t. But he got his hand in the way of a ball going through made by his own actions.

“Look, it’s not about that (an apology). They might need to apologise to the football club because we’re trying to get points to be a Premier League team.”

Joel Matip’s towering header saw Liverpool come from behind pick up a third straight win.

The Hammers led through a wonder strike from Lucas Paqueta but were pegged back by Cody Gakpo’s long-range drive.

And moments after Jarrod Bowen had a goal disallowed for offside, Matip struck from a corner to halt West Ham’s recent revival.

“I heard now about the handball. I thought he just fell on the ball but I can see why Moyesie would think different,” said Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, whose side climbed to sixth.

“I liked the performance a lot. Parts of the first half we were exceptional. We made one mistake and they scored a great goal, what a screamer. But we stayed calm and scored our screamer.

“Second half I liked as well. We had to dig in deep because of the physicality of West Ham. I would have liked the game if it was a draw. We won so that makes it the perfect night for us.”

  • Klopp: ‘We want to show our real face, not the nice one but ugly one’

Klopp: ‘We want to show our real face, not the nice one but ugly one’

After securing a third straight victory to climb to sixth place in the Premier League, Jürgen Klopp wants Liverpool to keep “showing our genuine face.”

Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium came as goals from Cody Gakpo and Joel Matip cancelled out Lucas Paqueta’s early goal.

West Ham manager David Moyes was enraged when a late handball appeal against Thiago Alcantara in the penalty area was denied by both referee Chris Kavanagh and the video assistant referee (VAR).

“I liked the performance a lot,” Klopp said at his post-match press conference. “First half, I think we were exceptional. Controlled the game from the beginning pretty much, made one mistake and bam – 1-0 down. Great goal, I have to say – what a screamer – but [we] stayed calm, kept playing, scored our screamer as well and controlled the game.

“Second half I liked as well. We had to really dig in deep then because of the physicality of West Ham, they always have a chance to come back as long as you don’t kill the game – and we didn’t. [We] had massive chances after set-pieces, I have no clue how we didn’t take them – I didn’t understand it but then [we] scored a wonderful goal from a set-piece.

“I heard now about the handball [but] we were on the other side of that. I thought he just fell on the ball but I can understand Moysey sees that probably completely different.

“In the end, if you look at the game, I think we are the deserved winner and that’s, for me, very important. If we got a point, I’m still happy with the game, not with the result – [but] now I’m happy with both.”

The win took Liverpool within six points of the top four, albeit having played two more games than fourth-placed Manchester United and one more than Newcastle United in third.

On the race for the Champions League spots, Klopp said: “I can’t see the race yet, because we are not in position for a race. The only thing we can do is win football games, if that puts pressure on other teams that’s not in our hands because we don’t play them [United and Newcastle].

“I want us to finish the season as good as somehow possible. I want us to take something out of this season for next year, if that is European competition, great, if not, we have to accept it as well and go from there.

“I want us, at least for a few weeks, [to] show our real face – and not the nice one, the ugly one, the nice one, the ugly one. It’s really tough to do that. So now we did it for kind of three games – three and a half, the second half against Arsenal was brilliant as well.

“We played here plenty of times, it’s always tough. Result-wise, it looked better from time to time but the goals we scored were then counter-attacks, stuff like that, quick reacting, all these kind of things. Tonight we controlled the game in a way we never did before against West Ham and I really liked that.”

Klopp had earlier told BT Sport how pleased he was again with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance in his new hybrid role between right-back and midfield, with the 24-year-old claiming an assist for Gakpo’s goal, and making more passes in the opposition half than anyone else on the pitch (62).

The Liverpool manager refused to entertain the idea that Alexander-Arnold’s new role had led to West Ham’s chances down their right side, and replied to a question about one specific chance that ended with Virgil van Dijk narrowly denying Michail Antonio in the first half: “That had nothing to do with the role of Trent.

“We had three players on the other side in a challenge, so we just don’t win the ball. That means we move to the ball side, that is a risk you take, you should win the ball then.

“Three v one we don’t win the ball, then the other side is open… it has nothing to do with Trent Alexander-Arnold.”

  • City hits hard on Arsenal, Pep says win was ‘not decisive but important’

City hits hard on Arsenal, Pep says win was ‘not decisive but important’

While Pep Guardiola stressed that Manchester City’s 4-1 victory over Premier League rivals Arsenal was not decisive, he did admit that something significant had changed as a result of his team’s possession of the championship.

With the spectacular play of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland repeatedly breaking down the Arsenal defence, City made light of a match that had been long-billed as a high-stakes title match.

On a dominant night, City could have scored more than four goals, with Haaland scoring the last goal after twice setting up De Bruyne, who then assisted John Stones on a goal with a header.

Arsenal still ended the night top of the table, but their two-point advantage looks particularly vulnerable with a City side who have won seven in a row in the league boasting two games in hand.

“It was an important game, not decisive but important,” Guardiola said.

“We played very good. I know the opponent we played. They’re still top, I know it sounds naive what I’m saying but we are still behind. We are still there.”

With the exception of a few days in February after City won 3-1 at the Emirates, Arsenal have topped the Premier League table since the third week of the season.

City have been playing catch up all along with Guardiola calling Arsenal the favourites for the title, but this result convinced the Catalan he and his side are finally in the stronger position.

“Absolutely (I prefer) my position because now it’s in our hands,” he said.

“I would love that these two games are six points but you have to win them, but I prefer it because it depends on us.

“Until today, I prefer the position in the Premier League of Arsenal because if Arsenal had beaten us it’s in their hands. But now it is in our hands.”

For Arsenal this was a fourth straight game without a win, with the Gunners appearing to wilt just as City turn up the heat.

Mikel Arteta admitted his side were second best on the night and might now end up second best in the league, but refused to admit defeat in a title race his side still lead, at least for now.

“The analysis is clear,” Arteta said. “The better team won the game. They were probably at their best, especially in the first half, and we were nowhere near our level. When that happens the gap becomes too big.

“The first 30 minutes all the basic things you have to do against an exceptional team in terms of competing, winning duels, understanding what the game requires, we didn’t do it and we were punished.

“The stats said Arsenal were going to finish sixth or seventh and we are where we are with five games to go. Those players deserve a lot of credit after nine-and-a-half months being here. And there are still five games to play.

“In 22 years in this country I’ve seen a lot of things and there are not two equal games in this league.”

Arsenal have five games remaining and Arteta admitted they would need to win them all – something that would put them on 90 points – to take the challenge to City.

“We first have to lift the players up tonight because they suffer and it was difficult to swallow,” he said.

“Do everything we have done so well in the next match to earn the right to win it. That’s where we have to start.”

IMCIM report: Akufo-Addo to be remembered as the worst president ever – Steve Manteaw fumes

The co-chair of the Ghana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, Dr. Steve Manteaw, has expressed his discontent with the way President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dealt with illegal small-scale mining, often known as galamsey.

Dr. Steve Manteaw criticised the president for delaying the investigation into the 2021 report produced by Professor Frimpong Boateng, a former minister of environment, science, technology, and innovation and the former chair of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), in an interview with Neat FM on April 26, 2023.

“…a president who has sworn to fight against galamsey…a former cabinet minister has given you a hint on what is happening for you to take a step…but it seems that this president doesn’t care about anything.

And this is my greatest worry because, all that is going on under his government is a written history, which would not affect only him but the entire generation to come, and gradually this president is going down in history as the worse president we have ever had.

“When it comes to corruption, then he will say if you want to lay an allegation bring evidence, my brother we have state agencies that are in charge of investigations but as a citizen, if I give you thumps up about an issue, then you tell me to go and investigate and bring evidence, how?

If you are somebody who is serious, the moment you hear something you will let the security agencies take charge, you won’t demand evidence because you have people that we have paid to do that job,” he said.

Dr. Manteaw added that the President appears not to care about the negative impact of the galamsey activity on the environment and the nation’s sustainability.

He added that the President’s inaction may go down in history as one of the worst leadership failures in Ghana.
He also lamented the President’s response to corruption allegations.

“…when you look at the things that Frimpong Boateng said in his report, a lot of it bothers on time and national security, it bothers on the sustainability on the national environment, the environment in which our lives is sustained, my brother just look at our water bodies, and you claim that someone has brought a report and alleging some of your appointees are involved in galamsey, then you will ignore in the name of the person not passing through the due process, then you the president I believe you don’t know your work,” he added.

His remarks follow a response from the Office of the President to a 37-page report by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, accusing some government employees and some top officials at the Presidency of engaging in galamsey and frustrating his fight against the menace as the former chair of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).

A statement, the Office of the President indicated that the report was not an official report formally delivered to the presidency.

It described the 37-page report as an of personal grievances by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, intended to respond to some issues he faced as Chairperson of the IMCIM.

Finals of UEFA Champions League likely to be played in USA after 2025 – President

Aleksander Ceferin, the head of UEFA, has discussed the potential of holding the Champions League final somewhere outside of Europe.

Up until this moment, every Champions League final has taken place in Europe. The main event will take place in Istanbul this year, with the other finals taking place in London and Munich.

According to GOAL, Ceferin would be open to exporting club football’s championship game, with the United States being the top choice given the sport’s growing popularity in the nation and its business opportunities.

“It is possible,” the 55-year-old football administrator told Men in Blazers, as quoted by talkSPORT.

“We started to discuss about that, but then one year it is World Cup, 2024 is Euro.

“This year [the final] is Istanbul, ’24 in London, ’25 in Munich. And after that, let’s see. It’s possible, it’s possible.”

    Ceferin re-elected as UEFA boss

Aleksander Ceferin was re-elected unopposed for a third term as president of UEFA at a meeting of European football’s governing body in Lisbon on Wednesday.

The 55-year-old Slovenian lawyer, first elected in 2016 following the downfall of Frenchman Michel Platini, will remain in the role until 2027.

Ceferin’s re-election by acclamation comes after he fought off the breakaway European Super League project during his second term, and he will now oversee the introduction of a new format for the Champions League starting next year.

Barca and England ace Bronze to miss return match following knee surgery

Due to an injury, Barcelona’s England defender Lucy Bronze will miss the second leg of their Champions League semifinal against Chelsea.

On Saturday’s first leg, which Barca won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Caroline Graham Hansen, the 31-year-old hobbled off the pitch during the second half.

After having an arthroscopy on her right knee, Bronze will not be able to play in the return match at the Camp Nou on Thursday, the Catalan club has now stated in a statement on Twitter.

Bronze’s injury provides a fresh concern for England manager Sarina Wiegman, with both Beth Mead and captain Leah Williamson set to miss this summer’s World Cup.

However, after Saturday’s game Barca manager Jonatan Giraldez provided an upbeat assessment of Bronze’s injury.

He said: “She felt something in her knee in the beginning.

“But in the end right now she’s fine. At the moment we made the substitution the feeling was bad, but right now the feeling she has is good.”

Bronze posted on Instagram that she was “in good spirits” following her operation.

She wrote: “In very good spirits after my knee op yesterday. It’s never easy being sidelined, but I’m as focused as ever to work hard and return to full fitness, hopefully as soon as possible.

“Thank you to everyone for all of your kind messages already! I couldn’t ask for better support, so thank you.

“The hard work has already started already can’t wait to be back on the pitch with this team. See you all very soon.”

  • China’s Xi Jinping and Volodymyr have had a phone call for first time since Russian invasion of Ukraine

China’s Xi Jinping and Volodymyr have had a phone call for first time since Russian invasion of Ukraine

Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said he had a “long and meaningful call” with Xi Jinping, the Chinese president.

During the long-anticipated conversation between the two leaders, Xi appealed for Russia and Ukraine to restart peace talks and warned “there is no winner in a nuclear war”, according to state media.

The Chinese government pledged to send a “special representative” to Kyiv for talks about a possible “political settlement”.

Writing on Twitter following the discussion, Mr Zelenskyy said: “I had a long and meaningful phone call with… President Xi Jinping.

“I believe that this call, as well as the appointment of Ukraine’s ambassador to China, will give a powerful impetus to the development of our bilateral relations.”

It comes two months after Beijing said it wanted to act as a peace mediator.

China has tried to appear neutral about the conflict, but has refused to condemn Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

President Xi reportedly said China will send special representatives to Ukraine to hold talks with “all parties” on the “political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis”.

He said China is willing to continue to provide “humanitarian assistance” to Ukraine.

“The two sides should focus on the future, persist in viewing and planning bilateral relations from a long-term perspective, continue the tradition of mutual respect and sincerity between the two sides,” he said.

‘No winner in a nuclear war’

“Negotiation is the only viable way out,” Chinese state TV also quoted Xi as saying in a report about the call.

He added: “There is no winner in a nuclear war.

“All parties concerned should remain calm and restrained in dealing with the nuclear issue and truly look at the future and destiny of themselves and humanity as a whole and work together to manage the crisis.”

Before the February 2022 invasion, the Chinese president and Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a joint statement saying their governments had a “no limits friendship”.

But earlier this year, the Chinese government released a peace proposal and called for a ceasefire and talks.

The phone call between the two leaders was for China another step toward deeper involvement in resolving the ongoing war.

It comes after Mr Zelenskyy said in late March that he had not spoken with Xi since the war began before extending an invitation for him to visit Ukraine.

    Why China’s stance matters

An official for China’s foreign ministry added that President Xi’s call with President Zelenskyy “shows China’s objective, impartial position on international affairs”.

They said what the country has done to help resolve the crisis has been “above board”.

Sky’s Asia correspondent Helen-Ann Smith said the phone call between President Zelenskyy and President Xi is “really significant,” adding: “China’s position on this war is really very important, it is presenting itself as a potential peacemaker.”

She added: “It wants to be seen as the power capable of brokering peace because it says it is one of the only mutual parties.

“The West sees that claim with a degree of scepticism. China has never condemned the invasion, but it has provided Russia with finance and technology and significant diplomatic cover.”

Ten Hag questions Fernandes’ fitness ahead of Tottenham showdown

Erik ten Hag has stated that  Bruno Fernandes‘ fitness is  “a question mark” prior to Manchester United’s Premier League matchup with Tottenham.

The midfielder was forced off with an ankle injury during United’s FA Cup semifinal victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday. He was afterwards photographed wearing a protective boot.

The loss of Fernandes would be detrimental to Ten Hag’s team going forward, with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane also out due to injuries, dealing a blow to United’s defensive.

But on the eve of the trip to Spurs, the manager could not confirm whether Fernandes would be available.

But the Dutchman is not ready to reveal whether the midfielder will sit out their crucial encounter with Spurs or if he could yet be available to feature.

“There are some unavailable,” he said. “Martinez, Varane. We have to see how Bruno Fernandes is. We don’t know yet. He is a question mark.

The win on penalties at Wembley was an effective tonic for an ailing United side after they had lost emphatically at Sevilla to crash out of the Europa League three days earlier.

David de Gea and Harry Maguire both committed costly errors leading to goals in that game, but Ten Hag has continued to talk up their character as the pair recover.

“They are resilient,” he said. “They are able to do it. It’s not easy, but they can do it. You can have a bad setback but show your character to bounce back.

“I am the Manchester United manager. I have to make sure our players are ready tomorrow against a good opponent, good team, good players. I have to focus [and make sure] they have energy.”

Now, United will face a Tottenham team reeling from a 6-1 rout at the hands of top-four rivals Newcastle United last time out.

Harry Kane, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, scored the only Spurs goal.

“It’s quite clear, his impact on the game for Spurs,” Ten Hag said of Kane. “We have a plan for that. You have to defend as a team. He’s a clever player, he can have a big impact on the game.”

Kaizer Chiefs’ Edwin Gyimah goes viral after scary dance following Sekhukhune’s win over Kaizer Chiefs

Following Sekhukhune United’s victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the South African Premier League, Ghanaian player Edwin Gyimah’s spooky dance moves went viral on social media.

At the Peter Mokoba Stadium, Sekhukhune shocked Kaizer Chiefs when the 32-year-old, who also plays defence, played the full match.

Gyimah energetically swung his body while making gestures that implied Chiefs had been defeated in a video that has now gone popular on social media.

Gyimah has spent most of his career in South Africa, playing for the likes of SuperSport United, Black Aces, Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits and Black Leopards.

He had a short stint in Sweden, where he played for Helsingborg before returning to South Africa.

This season, the former Sekondi Hasaacas star has made 22 appearances in the league as Sekhukhune push for a top four finish.

Gyimah has been capped ten times by the senior national team of Ghana.

    Chiefs poor discipline record continues

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that since the start of the Premier Soccer League in 1996, no team has had as many of its opponents sent off in a season as Kaizer Chiefs in the current campaign.

No less than nine players have been red-carded while trying to keep the Amakhosi at bay.

This has led to whispers and shouting about the merit of these dismissals, with many accusing referees of being biased in Kaizer Chiefs’ favour.

    Sundwons return to winning ways

Following a run of three consecutive stalemates, Mamelodi Sundowns returned to winning ways in the DStv Premiership this week following their 1-0 victory against Richards Bay at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday afternoon.

Sundowns settled early and stroked the ball around with ease during the first five minutes of the game.

While Downs looked comfortable, Richards Bay provided no real threat in the opposition half and was reduced to defending their own quarters as a result of Sundowns’ early possession.

Thierry Henry prefers RC Lens over PSG

RC Lens has impressed Thierry Henry a great deal this year, and he has praised them as the best Ligue 1 team to watch.

The French top tier league’s fewest losses this season have come from RC Lens, managed by Franck Haise, with four, one fewer than fifth-place Paris Saint-Germain.

Henry has praised Lens’ aggressive style of play, Get Football reports, which has helped them move up to third in the Ligue 1 standings after matchday 32.

“The star of this team is simply the team. It’s contagious when you see a team going forward, fighting together, regardless of the starting XI. This team is really difficult to manoeuvre,” the France legend commented.

Last season, RC Lens finished 7th in Ligue 1 but this term, the Artois side are pushing to qualify for the Champions League.

They currently sit 3rd on the table with 66 points after 32 games.

    Lens boost Champions League hopes

Meanwhile, RC Lens improved its Champions League chances with a 3-0 home win over Monaco in Ligue 1, a direct rival for a place in Europe’s top club competition, Sportstar reports.

Belgium striker, Lois Openda scored twice before half-time and set up midfielder, Adrien Thomasson for the third goal in the second half, lifting the team to third place on 66 points with seven games remaining.

Monaco is now in fourth place, five points behind second-placed Olympique de Marseille, tied on 66 points with RC Lens after defeating Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday.

    Henry: Messi should snub PSG

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Paris Saint-Germain forward, Lionel Messi being urged to rejoin Barcelona in what would be a fairy tail reunion.

The comment was made by the legendary Henry, who played alongside the Argentine at the Catalans giants between 2007 and 2010.

Messi’s current deal with PSG expires this summer, with negotiations between the player’s entourage and the club said to have hit a roadblock.
