Alabaster Box sues Medikal for alleged copyright infringement on new track

Ghanaian rapper Medikal is being sued by the famous Acappella group Alabaster Box for copyright infringement regarding his new song “Welcome to Africa.”

The group claims Medikal sampled their hit song “Akwaaba” without permission.

According to Alabaster Box, the first 10 seconds of “Welcome to Africa” are nearly identical to their original song “Akwaaba,” suggesting that Medikal deliberately used their work.

They also point out that the use of the word “Akwaaba” in both the title and lyrics of Medikal’s song shows he was clearly aware of their music.

The group further accuses Medikal of aggressively promoting and distributing the song across major streaming platforms like YouTube, Audiomack, Spotify, Apple Music, and Boomplay, deepening the infringement.

Through their legal team, Alabaster Box has demanded that “Welcome to Africa” be immediately removed from all digital and physical platforms.

They also want all marketing, performances, and sales related to the song to cease, and for any contracts tied to its production and distribution to be terminated.

In addition to halting the promotion of the song, the group is requesting a full financial breakdown of the revenue earned from it, as well as the names of all individuals or companies involved in its promotion or distribution.

If their demands are not met, Alabaster Box says they will take the matter to court, where they will seek an injunction to stop the song’s use and request that all copies be destroyed.

They are also asking for compensation for the unauthorized use of their work, additional damages for willful copyright infringement, and reimbursement of legal fees.

As of now, neither Medikal nor his management has responded to the allegations.

Wendy Shay surprises young fan with scholarship from primary to university

Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has brightened the life of a young fan, Tracy Shay, after the girl went viral online for her joyful dancing.

Tracy gained attention on social media when she was seen energetically dancing to Wendy Shay’s hit song Too Late during the singer’s performance at the Ridoana School Complex on March 29, 2025.

However, while the video was lighthearted, Tracy faced some criticism from social media users.

Wendy Shay quickly stepped in to defend her, condemning the negative comments.

In a beautiful gesture, Wendy Shay visited Tracy’s school on April 9, 2025, to personally support the young fan.

During the visit, Wendy made an incredible promise: she would sponsor Tracy’s education all the way from Class Five through to university.

She also gave Tracy an undisclosed amount of money.

The act moved both Tracy and her mother, Barbara Oteng, to tears, as seen in a touching video.

Tracy’s mother expressed heartfelt thanks, saying she was deeply grateful for Wendy Shay’s generosity.

In addition to the scholarship and financial gift, Wendy Shay also donated educational supplies, including custom-branded exercise books and Peeva Beverages products, to Tracy and her classmates.

  • Don’t be local champions, aim higher or get a side hustle – Burna Boy to upcoming artists

Don’t be local champions, aim higher or get a side hustle – Burna Boy to upcoming artists

Afrobeats sensation, Burna Boy has given an important advice to aspiring Nigerian musicians, urging them not to get caught up in the excitement of social media attention and local popularity.

In a viral post, the Grammy-winning artist warned that the buzz from Twitter polls and support on social media might seem exciting but doesn’t necessarily lead to long-term career growth.

He advised Nigerian artists to focus on bigger goals rather than celebrating local chart positions, which may not bring much financial benefit.

He highlighted the difference in earnings from music streams depending on location.

For example, one million streams in Nigeria might only earn an artist about $300 to $400, while in countries like the UK, US, or in Europe, the same number of streams could generate $3,000 to $4,000 or more.

Burna Boy emphasized that reaching the top of Nigerian charts should not be seen as a major accomplishment if it doesn’t lead to significant income or international recognition.

He encouraged artists to aim higher, targeting global markets, or to consider diversifying their careers with other business ventures to secure financial stability alongside their music.

  • Minority petitions Speaker to intervene in attempted arrest of Ntim Fordjour

Minority petitions Speaker to intervene in attempted arrest of Ntim Fordjour

The Minority in Parliament has urged the Speaker to take immediate action to protect constitutional rights and parliamentary protocols after an attempted arrest of Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour.

The incident, which took place on Wednesday, has raised concerns about the handling of elected officials by security agencies.

The Minority argues that the attempt by National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officers to arrest the MP at his Spintex home was done without following the proper procedures required when dealing with sitting MPs.

In a formal letter to the Speaker, the Minority’s Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh, emphasized the need to respect the privileges of Parliament.

The letter also warned that ignoring these procedures could weaken the power and independence of the legislature.

The attempted arrest is believed to be linked to ongoing investigations into alleged drug trafficking and money laundering involving two international flights that passed through Ghana in March 2025.

However, the exact nature of Reverend Fordjour’s involvement remains unclear.

The Minority stressed that any investigation must follow the proper legal process and ensure the protection of MPs’ rights.

They called on Speaker Alban Bagbin to act swiftly to assert his authority and prevent such incidents from happening again.

  • Sekondi MP threatens lawsuit over alleged involvement in $350m cocaine seizure

Sekondi MP threatens lawsuit over alleged involvement in $350m cocaine seizure

Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Blay Nyameke Armah, has rejected allegations that connect him to a $350 million cocaine bust.

The lawyer, who is also an MP, firmly denied any involvement in drug trafficking activities.

In an interview on Oyerepa TV on April 8, 2025, he expressed disbelief at the claims, and called the accusations both false and damaging to his reputation.

He has however threathened a lawsuit stating that he has never seen cocaine in his entire life.

“For me, Lawyer Blay Armah, all the allegations being peddled against me, I have no hand in them. The next thing is that they will hear from my lawyers,” he said.

He added, “It’s on Twitter and all-over social media. But as I’m saying, in my entire life, I have never seen cocaine before. And the amount of money they’re mentioning, if I had that kind of money, would I still be here? I would have bought an island somewhere.”

Armah’s response comes after Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, claimed that a Parliamentary Candidate from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is linked to the recent drug bust, valued at around $350 million.

Some have accused Armah of being the person involved.

Speaking during an interview on Channel One Newsroom, Rev Fordjour stated, “It was an NDC parliamentary candidate who owns that $150 million portion of the cocaine.

So, when we bring these exposés, it is expected that the NDC will feel frustrated and come at me personally. But I am not perturbed.”

The controversy began after a major drug bust by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in March 2025. Authorities intercepted 3,319.66 kilograms (3.3 tonnes) of substances believed to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of $350 million.

The drugs were cleverly hidden in sacks and bags, buried under heaps of sand in a tipper truck, likely to avoid detection.

Armah has promised to take legal action against those spreading what he calls false and harmful rumors.

AirtelTigo owes more than $200 million – Sam George

Government has revealed that AirtelTigo, a state-owned telecom company, is facing serious financial problems.

The company is currently $200 million in debt and is losing about GH₵20 million each month.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, criticised the previous government’s decision to take over the company for just $1.

Mr. George called the move “ill-informed, reckless and unpatriotic” and shared details about the company’s current struggles.

He explained that the Akufo-Addo administration acquired AirtelTigo in 2020 for a symbolic $1, but the company came with a massive $400 million debt.

He added that the former government did not do proper checks before the acquisition and ended up with a company that was “failing and obsolete.”

Even though the debt has now been reduced to $200 million, AirtelTigo is still losing money every month. Mr. George said the company’s income is not enough to cover its running costs. He also revealed that the company’s main billing and network systems have not been updated in five years and are outdated.

The minister said the government is speaking with creditors to try and reduce the debt further and save the company.

He added that a new policy will be announced soon to protect jobs and secure AirtelTigo’s future.

  • Bawumia visits Ntim Fordjour after attempted arrest

Bawumia visits Ntim Fordjour after attempted arrest

Former Vice President and flagbearer for New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, visited Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, on April 9.

The visit was to show support after reports of an attempted arrest, which many believe was politically motivated.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour later took to social media to thank the former Vice President for standing by him during what he described as a time of political intimidation.

“Thank you very much, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (@MBawumia), for the visit to my residence this evening following the politically motivated, lawless act of harassment by the NDC government in their attempt to gag MPs from exercising their legitimate oversight,” he wrote.

Reports indicate that officers from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) showed up at the home of Rev. Ntim Fordjour in an attempt to arrest him.

The reason for the attempted arrest is still not clear, but it comes shortly after the MP made serious claims about drug trafficking and money laundering.

Sources say the NIB officers left after several top members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including MPs and party executives, arrived at the scene to stop the arrest.

Speaking on behalf of the NPP leadership, Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo said about 20 NIB officers had surrounded the house but eventually pulled back.

“We will not allow any of our members to be intimidated or harassed by the John Dramani Mahama government,” he stated, adding that the NPP caucus, which he dubbed “The Mighty Minority,” stands firmly behind Rev. Fordjour.

The attempted arrest happened just days after Rev. Ntim Fordjour made serious claims during a press conference on April 1, 2025. He alleged that two aircraft—a private jet and an air ambulance—might have been used for drug trafficking or money laundering.

He said one of the planes, Air MED flight L823 AM, landed in Ghana on March 20 and stayed at the Kotoka International Airport for five days without transporting any patient.

Following these claims, President John Dramani Mahama ordered national security agencies to work closely with the Assin South MP to investigate the matter thoroughly.

“Ghana has a zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking, and we will not allow the country to be used as a transit point or final destination for illicit drugs,” the president said.

He directed all security agencies to cooperate with Rev. Ntim Fordjour to find out the truth about the two suspicious flights reportedly connected to drug trafficking.

As political tension grows over the matter, both parties are standing by their positions. Meanwhile, the nation is closely watching and waiting for the results of investigations into what has become one of the most talked-about drug-related allegations in recent times.

  • Ghana keeps 2025/2026 cocoa price unchanged despite Côte d’Ivoire’s raise

Ghana keeps 2025/2026 cocoa price unchanged despite Côte d’Ivoire’s raise

Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has said that the price paid to farmers for cocoa will stay the same for the 2025/2026 season.

This decision comes even though cocoa prices have changed in some areas and the global market remains unstable.

In a letter dated April 8 and sent to the Licensed Cocoa Buyers’ Association of Ghana (LICOBAG), COCOBOD explained that the decision was made after carefully reviewing the cocoa sector’s current financial and operational situation.

“This decision comes after careful consideration of the operational and financial implications for the cocoa industry,” said Dr. James Kofi Kutoati, Acting Deputy Chief Executive, Operations.

At the moment, cocoa farmers in Ghana earn GH₵3,100 for each 64kg bag of cocoa, which adds up to GH₵49,600 per tonne. This is a very slight increase of 0.03% from the price set in September for the 2024/2025 season.

COCOBOD explained that keeping the price steady is meant to help maintain stability and ensure the long-term growth of the cocoa industry.

It also said the decision fits with current global market trends and is aimed at supporting cocoa farmers.

While Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana’s neighbor, has recently raised its cocoa price, Ghana has decided not to make any changes for now.

Still, COCOBOD said it may consider adjusting prices, fees, and margins for industry players later in the season.

  • China makes AI education compulsory for primary, secondary students

China makes AI education compulsory for primary, secondary students

China is making a significant move to include artificial intelligence (AI) education in its primary and secondary schools. Starting from the fall semester on September 1, 2025, students will have a minimum of eight hours of AI lessons each year.

Schools can choose to incorporate AI into their existing subjects or offer it as a separate course. Younger students in elementary school will focus on hands-on activities to learn basic AI concepts.

In middle school, students will study how AI is used in everyday life, while high school students will dive into more advanced AI topics and innovation.

This change is part of China’s strategy to lead the world in AI technology. By introducing AI education early, the country aims to equip the next generation with the skills needed to drive future innovations.

China’s Minister of Education, Huai Jinpeng, stated that AI is revolutionizing technology and creating valuable educational opportunities.

He also revealed that China will release a white paper on AI education in 2025, outlining the country’s plans and goals for incorporating AI into its education system.

Other countries are also focusing on AI education. For example, California has passed laws to include AI in school curriculums, and Italy is testing AI tools to improve digital skills in classrooms.

Many nations are recognizing the importance of teaching AI and are working to include it in their educational systems.

China’s decision to start AI education at an early stage reflects its desire to prepare young people for a future where AI is a key part of many industries. This initiative highlights the growing importance of technological knowledge and positions China as a leader in the global AI field. The upcoming white paper will provide more details on how China plans to shape the future of AI education.

NPP bigwigs storm Ntim Fordjour’s house to prevent his purported arrest

Members of Parliament (MPs) and some stalwarts of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) gathered at the Spintex residence of Assin South MP, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, to stop officials from the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) from arresting him.

Those present included Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua, National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, Director of Communications Richard Ahiagbah, as well as other Members of Parliament and party supporters.

They stated that they had gathered at the house after learning that officials from the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) had “invaded” the MP’s residence to arrest him in connection with his claims about the two aircraft that landed in the country.

He clarified that Rev. Fordjour only raised the issue of the AirMed aircraft on behalf of the Defence Committee of Parliament, where he is a member. “So nobody should make an attempt to single him out and try to come here to intimidate him.”

The standoff at the residence prevented the NIB from carrying out the arrest, as claimed by the NPP, who said they had come to detain the MP.

The situation began after Rev. Ntim Fordjour stated that the aircraft had arrived in the country to engage in illegal activities such as drug trafficking and money laundering.

Since then, he has faced criticism for bringing up the issue publicly without proper verification.

The government has accused him of making the claim to damage the reputation of the NDC administration.

China hits back with 84% tariff on US goods as trade war heightens

China has raised its tariffs on US goods to 84%, following the implementation of Donald Trump’s 104% duties on Chinese products earlier today.

The move comes after China’s foreign ministry strongly criticized the US, vowing to “fight to the end” against Trump’s new trade measures if necessary, and accused the White House of “bullying practices.”

Reacting to China’s decision, Trump addressed businesses, saying “now is a great time” to relocate to the United States.

At the same time, the European Union is getting ready to impose its own set of retaliatory tariffs.

These could include a 25% tax on American goods like motorcycles, luxury boats, and orange juice.

Stock prices for European pharmaceutical companies also dropped after Trump hinted at introducing a “major” tariff on all drug imports.

Before steeper tariffs on around 60 nations came into effect today, Trump said many countries were “dying” to negotiate deals. “I’m telling you these countries are calling us up, kissing my ass,” he said.

The Bank of England said Britain is well placed to weather the storm but warns of future risks as the UK government said it’s “confident” it will get a US trade deal.

Barça’s keeper Marc-André recounts tense, heartwarming moments with Messi

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has shared that his relationship with Lionel Messi had its highs and lows, but he always valued playing on the same team as the football legend.

Marc-André ter Stegen shared these insights during an interview on the podcast Phrasenmäher, hosted by the German publication BILD.

Ter Stegen joined Barcelona in 2014 and played alongside Messi for seven years, until the Argentine star left for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.

During their time together, they won several major trophies, including the 2015 Champions League and four LaLiga titles. However, Ter Stegen admitted that they didn’t always agree or get along perfectly.

“The good or the bad moments?” Ter Stegen told Bild when asked to recount his best memories playing with the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
“We had them both [laughs]. Leo is a special character, who is at this [high] level because he’s motivated by a lot of things that we don’t see.

“There were moments when things didn’t work between us because he was annoyed with me and I was annoyed with him.
“I think Leo’s probably the only player that, if he wants to shoot right at your face, he can shoot right at your face.

“Other players would probably shoot somewhere else, but he’s got the ability to hit [the target] accurately.”
Asked if he had ever experienced Messi’s ire, Ter Stegen added:

“Several times [smiles], but not in a bad way in the sense that it dragged on or anything.
“We never had an argument in the sense that you say we don’t get on at all. But we had moments, and that’s fine.

Leo is simply a super impressive character on the pitch and he plays with an ease that you won’t see again, I’m 100% sure of that.
“He has the ability that if he wants to make you look bad [on the pitch], then he does it with such ease and with a pass or a shot that you say afterwards: ‘That was impossible!’

“I’ve experienced that more than once. And that’s why I’m glad I’ve always had him with me in games and not on the other side.”

  • Five Premier League clubs to compete in 2025-26 Champions League

Five Premier League clubs to compete in 2025-26 Champions League

Premier League is expecrted to have five teams in the Champions League next season after it secured one of the extra places for performance by clubs across the three European competitions.

Two leagues will be rewarded with a European Performance Spot (EPS), which was introduced in last season as part of a revamp to expand the Champions League to a 36-team competition.

England has been well out in front at the top of the table for most of the season, and the extra place was all but confirmed by a catalogue of poor results for Italian clubs in the knockout playoff round and the round of 16.

That left the Premier League needing only one win, or two draws, from the remaining fixtures and that was sealed on Tuesday when Arsenal won 3-0 at home to Real Madrid.

Fifth place in England will now qualify for the Champions League. Chelsea (53 points) sit fourth with Newcastle United (53) in fifth (and the Magpies have a crucial game in hand.) But a host of clubs are battling for the top five, including Manchester City (52), Aston Villa (51), Fulham (48) and Brighton & Hove Albion (47).

If Aston Villa win the Champions League (they play Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals) and finish fifth then six teams qualify for the Champions League — the top four, the Champions League titleholders and the EPS, which drops to sixth place.

The maximum number of places in the Champions League could be seven: the top four, the EPS, plus Villa and Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur as winners of the Champions League and Europa League.

The Premier League could have 11 teams in Europe next season if Villa, Man United or Spurs and also Chelsea won the three titles and finished outside the domestic qualification places. Titleholders automatically qualify as additional places if they do not do so domestically.

If Arsenal or Aston Villa win the Champions League and finish inside the top four, there is no transfer to the Premier League; only the top five will qualify.

Spain — which, like the Premier League, still has five clubs active European competitions — is set to take the second spot but could yet be caught by Italy.

Last season, Italy and Germany were the beneficiaries, with Bologna and Borussia Dortmund finishing in fifth place in their respective league tables.

  • Jude Bellingham: Real Madrid ‘lucky’ to concede just three vs. Arsenal

Jude Bellingham: Real Madrid ‘lucky’ to concede just three vs. Arsenal

Jude Bellingham has admitted that Real Madrid were fortunate to lose by only three goals in their 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Arsenal took control of the game in the second half at the Emirates Stadium, with Declan Rice scoring two brilliant free kicks — the first direct free kicks of his entire career — and Mikel Merino adding a third goal late in the match.

The result puts the Gunners in a strong position going into the return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu next week.

Although Real Madrid are known for their dramatic Champions League comebacks, they have never managed to overturn a 3-0 first leg loss in the competition’s history.

“We were nowhere near [our level], and Arsenal were really good,” Bellingham told CBS. “They could have had way more. We were lucky to get away with three. There is a second leg, that’s the thing we’re holding onto. We’re going to need something unbelievably special, something crazy.”

Real Madrid, the 15-time Champions League winners, were shocked by Arsenal’s three quick goals in just 17 minutes during the second half of their quarterfinal first-leg match.

The first half had ended 0-0, with Mbappé missing a clear chance against Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, and Thibaut Courtois making a good double save before halftime.

Speaking after the match, Jude Bellingham said, “You never know,” when asked if a comeback was possible. He admitted the team’s performance was far from good but added, “I can’t come out and say we’re gonna give up, that’s not in the nature of the club, the mentality they instill at this club. [It’s] 90 minutes at home to pull something out of the bag.”

The Spanish media had strong reactions the next day. Marca’s front page described the loss as a “humiliation” but also said, “nothing is impossible for Madrid.”

Another paper, Diario AS, stated that the team would be “obliged to perform another miracle” in the second leg.

Real Madrid has a history of pulling off dramatic comebacks, like during their 2022 run to the final when they came from behind to beat PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

Although the team is currently second in La Liga and has made it to the Copa del Rey final, they have struggled in key games this season, including losing both El Clásico matches to Barcelona.

“It’s similar kind of themes that have happened to us all season when we’ve dropped points,” Bellingham told TNT. “It’s happened again tonight on a larger scale.

We’re going to need something special to turn it around, but special things can happen in football. And if there’s one place where it can, it’s at our house.

“They had a good game plan. They did a really good job at analysing how we would try and press them, they made a little change which helped them progress the ball forward more and that gave them more chance to have more waves of attacks and take more risks especially when the ball went wide. Credit to them, they were brilliant.

Even besides the free kicks, which are rare to score, they had a load more chances they could have punished us with.”

Madrid next play Alavés in LaLiga on Sunday, before hosting Arsenal at the Bernabéu next Wednesday.

‘Captain’! Arsenal fans gush over Partey after stunning display against Madrid

Thomas Partey delivered an outstanding performance as Arsenal defeated Real Madrid 3-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Black Stars midfielder controlled the game from the middle of the pitch, helping the Gunners secure a huge advantage.

Declan Rice scored two stunning goals from free kicks, while Mikel Merino added a third to complete the win.

Partey, who used to play for Atlético Madrid, was heavily involved throughout the match.

He had 77 touches, completed 61 of his 66 passes, and showed great control and awareness.

He also made seven passes into the final third, recovered the ball six times, won four out of seven ground duels, completed both of his long passes, and made one interception.

Arsenal will now turn their focus to the second leg, which will be played at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, where another strong performance will be needed to reach the semifinals.

Doctor admits it was wrong to discharge Diego Maradona home after surgery

A doctor testified Tuesday at the trial of seven medical professionals accused of negligence in the death of Diego Maradona that the soccer star should have been admitted to a rehabilitation center rather than taken home following a brain surgery he underwent in 2020.

Maradona, who led Argentina to the World Cup title in 1986, died on Nov. 25, 2020, while undergoing home hospitalization on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. He was 60.

“He should have gone to a rehabilitation clinic … a more protected place for him,” Mario Alejandro Schiter, who treated Maradona for two decades, told the court.

“Knowing the patient, I would not have suggested home hospitalization; he was not easy to manage, given my direct knowledge of having treated him at the worst moment of his life,” added Schiter, who treated Maradona for a drug addiction.

According to the prosecution, the seven professionals charged in the negligence case — a neurosurgeon, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, doctors, and nurses — failed to provide adequate care, which may have led to his death.

Schiter said he was a consultant and that he had no decision-making authority, and that the clinic’s directors ultimately “came and told me they opted for home hospitalization.”

According to some witnesses at the trial, the home where Maradona was taken lacked the necessary medical equipment.
Schiter, who also observed the autopsy on Maradona’s body, said “all the evidence suggests that there was a failure to provide modifiable care, which led to heart failure.”

Billboard crowns Nicki Minaj as Best Female Rapper of All Time

Nicki Minaj has been named the Greatest Female Rapper in Hip-Hop history by Billboard, cementing her place as a dominant figure in the music world.

Billboard, a leading music media brand, revealed the ranking on Monday, April 7, 2025. Minaj secured the top spot, surpassing other influential artists like Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill, Lil’ Kim, and Queen Latifah. Her ranking was based on a variety of factors, including her chart success, cultural impact, lyrical ability, longevity, and distinctive flow.

Billboard praised Minaj’s body of work, noting that her numerous achievements made her the perfect choice for the title. She became the first female rapper to exceed 100 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2018, a milestone few artists across any genre have achieved.

More recently, her Pink Friday 2 World Tour broke records, becoming the highest-grossing tour ever by a female rapper.

“From mixtape bars to mainstream dominance, Nicki has consistently delivered,” Billboard said, emphasizing her ability to merge sharp lyrics with versatility and charisma.

Following Minaj in the rankings were other legendary Hip-Hop figures, such as Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill, Lil’ Kim, and Queen Latifah, all of whom have played pivotal roles in shaping female rap over the years.

With over a decade in the industry, countless platinum records, and an army of dedicated fans known as the Barbz, Minaj’s impact extends well beyond just music.

Billboard also noted the influence of the women on the list, each of whom contributed to the evolution of hip-hop from the ’80s and ’90s golden era to the digital age of the 2000s and beyond.

Known for her animated flow, sharp lyricism, and ability to break genre barriers, Nicki Minaj has shattered limitations in a male-dominated industry.

Since her early mixtapes and debut album Pink Friday, she has built an impressive catalog of hits, amassed millions of fans worldwide, and played a key role in shaping the modern landscape of female rap.

Video: I’ve been told I’m too free, but that’s just how I was raised – Davido

Afrobeats artist Davido has shared that he doesn’t conform to the typical celebrity lifestyle and prefers to stay true to himself.

In an interview on ‘The Breakfast Club,’ Davido talked about how he is often criticized for being “too available” for someone of his fame.

“I love everyone, man. I’m not a rebel like Burna Boy or mystical like Wizkid. I’m just me. People know me as the outgoing, free guy. I can’t act that way. I’m not a rebel like Burna Boy, nor am I as mysterious as Wizkid,” he said.

He also mentioned how some people tell him he’s “too free” and question whether he realizes his superstar status. He responded, saying, “Some people tell me I’m too free and ask if I know I’m a superstar. I’ll just tell them, ‘If my dad walked past, you right now, you wouldn’t know it. That’s how I grew up.’”

Davido attributes his down-to-earth personality to the way he was raised.

He also shared a funny story about his manager, who often gets upset with him for being too relaxed, even when he’s at home. “My manager gets mad at me for wearing slippers in the house,” Davido laughed. “There are people who are born artistes, and they come out of their room looking perfect.”

Despite his laid-back nature, Davido pointed out that he knows how to manage both his personal freedom and the responsibilities that come with being a successful artist.

He believes that his genuine, carefree attitude helps his fans connect with him and see the real person behind the celebrity image.

  • Ola Michael slams King Paluta critics as ‘ignorant’ over TGMA favourite debate

Ola Michael slams King Paluta critics as ‘ignorant’ over TGMA favourite debate

Entertainment pundit and broadcaster Ola Michael has strongly defended King Paluta against critics who doubt his chances of winning Artiste of the Year at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

There’s been growing debate over who deserves the award, with names like Stonebwoy, King Paluta, and King Promise leading the conversation. However, some industry commentators have downplayed King Paluta’s chances, arguing that he doesn’t have the strong brand or fanbase to match his rivals.

Speaking on Neat FM on April 7, 2025, Ola Michael dismissed those claims, saying such views come from a place of ignorance. He explained that King Paluta had already built a loyal fanbase in Kumasi long before breaking into the national spotlight.

“The problem is that many people think they know every part of Ghana. When King Paluta started music, most of the people who know him now didn’t know him then. When he was big in Kumasi, most people in Accra didn’t know him,” he said.

He continued, “It wasn’t until the COVID period, when people began listening to the Asakaa Boys and other acts from Kumasi, that he blew up in Accra.”

Speaking on the impact of the Kumasi music scene, Ola Michael explained that many mainstream artistes have historically depended on the region for strong sales of their CDs, as music lovers there are more likely to purchase works than those in Accra.

“Back in the day, when the value of music was strong, if you produced a song and didn’t market it in Kumasi, you would be found wanting,” he noted.

He added, “If an artiste like Sarkodie releases an album, his fans in Kumasi are more likely to buy the CDs than those in Accra. Maybe it’s because he hosts shows in Accra, so fans there can watch him live. But in Kumasi, where they don’t get to see their favorite artistes as often, they buy their works.”

Addressing critics of King Paluta directly, Ola Michael concluded, “If you don’t know someone, don’t sit in your small room somewhere and say that King Paluta has no brand or no major fanbase. You can’t do that.”

Popular broadcaster and DJ, Andy Dosty, has revealed that dancehall artist Shatta Wale once showed interest in signing rapper King Paluta to his record label.

Dosty said Shatta Wale was impressed by King Paluta’s performance on their 2020 song, Ahodwo Las Vegas, and began discussions about bringing him on board.

“The person who wanted to sign King Paluta was Shatta Wale. He really wanted to sign him at a time when nobody knew him,” Andy Dosty disclosed during an appearance on the Asetena Pa podcast hosted by Akoto Mansa.

Veteran presenter Andy Dosty shared that he once had an in-depth conversation with Shatta Wale about plans to support King Paluta’s music career.

“I remember spending about an hour with Shatta Wale talking about King Paluta—how to shape his brand and the investments needed,” he said.

Interestingly, Andy revealed that King Paluta had no idea such talks were going on behind the scenes.

Today, King Paluta has become a major name in Ghana’s music scene and is one of the top nominees for Artiste of the Year at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, which takes place on May 3.

  • Prof. Aning slams govt’s ‘two-tier law’ over deportation policy for foreign galamseyers

Prof. Aning slams govt’s ‘two-tier law’ over deportation policy for foreign galamseyers

Security expert, Professor Kwasi Aning, has strongly criticised the government’s new decision to arrest and deport foreigners caught in illegal mining without taking them through the courts.

He believes this move could make Ghana more vulnerable to dangerous criminals and further reduce public trust in the country’s legal system.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, April 8, Prof. Aning described the decision as unfair and poorly thought out. He said it creates two different systems of justice—one for foreigners and another, tougher one for Ghanaians.

According to him, this approach by the Interior Ministry sends a message that Ghanaians don’t deserve the same protection under the law in their own country.

“I have absolutely no sympathy. I detest being an independent Ghanaian in Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana being treated like a second-class citizen,” Prof. Aning declared passionately.

“We cannot have a two-tier law. We cannot have a two-tier implementation process.”

The backlash follows the announcement by Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak directing the Inspector General of Police to immediately transfer all regional, divisional, and district police commanders in mining areas.

But it was the policy to deport foreign nationals involved in the crime without prosecution that drew the sharpest rebuke from Prof. Aning.

“This is a policy that will serve as an attraction for even worse criminals to come, because they know we don’t have the capacity to prosecute them,” he warned.

“They know we don’t have the political will to do what is right for the people of this country.”

Directly addressing President John Mahama, the security expert made an emotional appeal.

“Mr. President, this is your legacy term, let it matter and let it count. Your minister has demonstrated an unwillingness and a reluctance to hold the bull by the horns and resolve this crisis. This is not a time to proceed. Please rescind this policy before this country is destroyed.”

Professor Kwasi Aning says the government’s plan to deport illegal miners without prosecution could send a dangerous message—not only to Ghanaians, but also to international criminal groups who take advantage of weak law enforcement.

He criticized the decision, saying, “The manner in which this has been presented to the Republic of Ghana is shameful. Mr. President, it is not thought through. It is populist, and it’s a disgrace.”

Prof. Aning added that although changing police leadership might help, it will only be effective if the officers are given clear targets and the resources they need. He warned against making decisions without proper planning, saying real progress depends on strategy, not quick fixes.

“I think it’s useful. We need to give the police officers performance indicators, but we need to give them the resources, Your Excellency, so that the three months can be tested and their results checked.”

He urged the President to recall his promise to Ghanaians and to make environmental reclamation and justice a defining feature of his final term in office.

“Let this be your legacy term by reclaiming the environment, as you promised the people of Ghana in your State of the Nation Address.”

BoG rejects any association with improper use of its currency containers

Bank of Ghana (BoG) has issued a disclaimer following reports that its currency transport boxes are being misused by individuals for purposes unrelated to their intended official function, some of which may involve criminal activity.

In a statement titled “Use and Misuse of Bank of Ghana Currency Transport Boxes,” the central bank clarified that while the wooden boxes used for currency import operations are exceptionally durable and occasionally repurposed after official use, any suggestion that the Bank is associated with criminal use of these containers is entirely false and damaging.

“These boxes are robust, reusable, and well-suited to withstand wear and tear associated with logistics,” the statement read. It noted that commercial banks often return them empty or find alternative non-currency uses for them.

“However, due to their durability, some members of the public have repurposed them for domestic and commercial uses, including storage and transport.”

The Bank drew a clear line, stating that any misuse of these boxes, particularly for criminal activities, must be treated with the seriousness it deserves.

“The BoG cannot be associated with any misuse of these boxes for criminal or unauthorized activities,” it stated.

“Reports have emerged indicating that certain individuals are using these boxes to implicate the Bank or undermine public trust in its operations,” the statement continued.

The central bank warned that such misuse could potentially damage its reputation and insisted that law enforcement agencies must take swift action.

“Misuse of such boxes for criminal activities must be thoroughly investigated… and all persons found culpable prosecuted,” the Bank emphasized.

In an era where appearances can lead to harmful conclusions, the Bank of Ghana clarified that a reused currency box does not represent or have the approval of the central bank.

As a result of the new directive, the Office of the President emphasized that “all requests for such appointments will no longer be considered.”

This decision is likely to impact numerous current and upcoming contract agreements within public sector organizations.

Although the directive did not provide specific reasons for the action, it suggests a possible change in policy regarding post-retirement employment in the public service.

A man has been charged following an alleged attack on Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The incident took place after City’s Premier League match against Manchester United, which ended in a 0-0 draw. It is reported that Grealish was slapped in the face by a man near the tunnel as both teams were leaving the pitch after the game.

City has not made any comments regarding the matter. However, United officials told ESPN that the club is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that 20-year-old Alfie Holt from Droylsden has been charged with assault. He is scheduled to appear in Manchester Magistrates Court on July 14.

A GMP statement read: “This charge relates to an incident which took place at Old Trafford Football Club on Sunday, April 6, 2025.”

Following the derby, City manager Pep Guardiola accused United fans of a “lack of class” after derogatory chants were directed at Phil Foden’s mother.

City sources said they had been shocked by the number of fans involved in the chants while sources close to United said they condemn “abusive chants against all players.”

The worst Man United and Man City teams in decades offer a poor Manchester derby to match

“Lack of class; but it’s not United, it’s the people,” Guardiola said when about the chants.

“We are so exposed, people who are on the screen in world football — managers, owners, and football players especially.

“It is honestly, I don’t understand in the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil, being involved in that.

“It’s a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed, but it is what it is; it’s happening everywhere, I would say, not just in the UK.”

Deon Boakye says 98% of Ghanaian singers rely on auto-tune for better sound

Ghanaian artist Deon Boakye has stated that most singers in the country’s music industry rely on auto-tune to enhance the quality of their music.

In an interview on the Frankly Speaking podcast, Boakye acknowledged the widespread use of auto-tune but chose not to name specific artists. He emphasized that this is a common practice that cannot be overlooked.

“Most Ghanaian singers use auto-tune. I’m not going to mention names, but I’d say that about 98% of them rely on it, and I’m being honest,” he stated.

According to Deon, live vocal performance is where the true test of an artiste’s ability lies, and many would struggle to deliver without the assistance of technology.

He further emphasised that only a handful of artistes are capable of sounding as good as they do in the studio.

“In Ghana, if we were to perform live music right here for you to enjoy, aside from Samini, I would be the next best option,” he added.

Deon Boakye gained recognition in 2017 after being nominated for the ‘Unsung Artiste’ award at the Ghana Music Awards.

Although he didn’t win, losing to former Lynx Entertainment artist Kuami Eugene, the nomination helped boost his career.

Since then, Boakye has collaborated with several popular artists, including Yaa Pono, Kofi Kinaata, Kojo Cue, and Medikal, among others.

Hearts of Oak’s ultra-modern secretariat has reportedly been put up for rent.

The state-of-the-art facility in Adabraka was officially handed over to the club’s leadership in July 2024, as Executive Board Chairman Togbe Afede XIV affirmed that the facility would serve as the club’s new Commercial Centre.

Despite this, reports circulating indicate that the club has leased the ground floor for commercial purposes.

While the news has sparked curiosity, there is still uncertainty surrounding the move, as the club has yet to confirm whether the space is indeed available for lease or if it’s just a rumor.

Goldbod key part of our plan to ease pressure on the Cedi – Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has praised the Goldbod initiative, calling it a major opportunity for Ghana’s economy. He pointed out that it helps stabilize the cedi, attracts foreign exchange, and generates long-term employment.

During a recent discussion with Canada’s High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Myriam Montrat, Dr. Forson reaffirmed the government’s commitment to using the Goldbod project to tackle important economic issues.

He explained that the initiative aims to improve the tracking and management of gold exports, while also supporting wider economic goals like currency stability and sustainable growth.

“There is so much to gain from this initiative,” the Minister stated. “Goldbod will give us better control over our gold exports and help shore up our foreign exchange reserves. It is part of our strategy to reduce pressure on the cedi and to prioritize job creation over short-term revenue.”

Dr. Forson acknowledged recent mismanagement within Cocobod but was quick to caution against using those setbacks to discredit the broader Goldbod vision. “While Cocobod has faced some challenges, we must not lose sight of its significant contributions to Ghana’s development. The Goldbod builds on that legacy with a renewed focus on transparency, efficiency, and impact.”

Dr. Forson expressed optimism that the Goldbod initiative will be fully up and running in the near future.

He also mentioned that the government has implemented necessary corrective measures through the IMF program to address challenges left over from the previous administration.

The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana congratulated Dr. Forson on his appointment and reiterated Canada’s strong commitment to its ongoing partnership with Ghana, especially in the fields of agriculture and technical vocational education and training (TVET).

  • Govt rules out an immediate reduction in transport fares despite the drop in fuel prices

Govt rules out an immediate reduction in transport fares despite the drop in fuel prices

Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has assured the public that transport fares will not change for the time being, despite recent drops in fuel prices.

This comes as more people are calling for fare reductions, especially after transport unions previously warned of price increases during fuel price hikes.

Mr. Nikpe explained that the Ministry is in regular talks with transport unions and operators, adding that any changes in fares are based on a clear, established formula.

“I am in constant touch with the unions and transport operators. We have a formula in which we use to either increase or reduce prices, and we have not gotten there yet,” he said.

The Minister emphasised the importance of collaboration with stakeholders to maintain stability in the sector, reassuring commuters that prices will hold steady for now.

“We are in good touch. We are working together, and Ghanaians should be rest assured that prices will be kept for some time before any of the adjustments will be made,” Mr. Nikpe added.

The Ministry’s position seeks to strike a balance between easing the burden on commuters and ensuring transport operators remain financially viable, while talks about potential fare adjustments are ongoing.

Mahama’s aide threatens legal action against Abronye, seeks GHS10m compensation over GHS95k salary claims

Special Aide and Presidential Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has threatened to take legal action against Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), over what her lawyers have described as “false, reckless, and malicious” comments.

In a legal notice issued on April 3, 2025, by R.O. Solomon Consulting, Mogtari’s legal team is demanding a full retraction of the statements, a public apology, and compensation of GH₵10 million for defamation.

The dispute arose from comments Abronye made during a March 26, 2025 interview on Net 2 TV, where he claimed that Mogtari had turned down a ministerial role in favor of a presidential staffer position, which he alleged comes with a salary of GH₵95,000 per month.

He further claimed that this supposed financial comfort had made her “disrespectful to everyone in Ghana.”

According to the legal notice, these remarks have since been widely circulated across various platforms, including GhanaWeb and social media, leading to “serious embarrassment and damage” to Mogtari’s reputation.

The letter accuses Abronye of spreading misinformation with no factual basis, asserting that the details of Mogtari’s appointment are a matter of public record and could have easily been verified.

“Our client’s reputation, both personally and professionally, has come under attack due to your statements,” the letter reads.

“She has received numerous phone calls and messages from friends, family, and colleagues questioning the claims.”

Mogtari, through her lawyers, is demanding that Abronye publicly retract his statements and issue a full, sincere apology. This apology should be shared on all the platforms where the remarks were originally made, including Net 2 TV, GhanaWeb, MyJoyOnline, Channel One TV, and Citi FM.

If Abronye does not meet these demands, her legal team has warned that they will take legal action to address what they believe is an intentional attack on her reputation.

  • African Trade Ministers to meet on April 14 to discuss Trump’s new tariffs

African Trade Ministers to meet on April 14 to discuss Trump’s new tariffs

African trade ministers are set to meet on April 14 to discuss the impact of a new U.S. tariff policy introduced by President Donald Trump. The policy places a 10 percent tax on all goods entering the U.S. from over 100 countries, including many in Africa.

The meeting will bring together government officials, economists, trade specialists, and representatives from regional trade blocs. Their goal is to find ways for Africa to protect its economic interests in a world where protectionist policies are on the rise.

Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), spoke to the media from Washington, D.C. He described the U.S. tariff decision as a serious warning for Africa.

According to Mene, this move by the U.S. shows why it’s more important than ever for African countries to speed up efforts to trade more among themselves and rely less on major global economies.

“President of the United States has given us a wake-up call. And the wake-up call is that we must accelerate our own economic self-sufficiency. The ministers of trade will meet on April 14 to deliberate on this matter and exactly how our continent should respond.”

Wamkele Mene’s comments reflect what many African leaders and trade experts are now thinking — that rising global economic nationalism and decisions by powerful countries mean Africa needs to act together and prepare better.

The new U.S. tariff could make African goods more expensive in the American market, making it harder for them to compete.

Many African countries depend heavily on exports like clothes, farm produce, raw materials, and manufactured items. A lot of these goods currently benefit from special trade deals like the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which allows them easier access to the U.S. market.

National Security finds alleged ECG cables, meter covers, others in Western Region

Western Regional Office of National Security has discovered a large quantity of suspected stolen electrical items at Kansawurodo, a suburb in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

Acting on a tip-off, security officers found the items hidden in an uncompleted building, believed to be connected to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The items found include 46 cable drums, electric switches, meter boxes, meter covers, iron angle bars, and other valuable materials usually used in ECG operations.

These materials are suspected to be missing property of ECG. Two people have been arrested and are currently assisting with investigations.

Hashim Torkonu, a National Security officer who led the operation, told Channel One News on Monday, April 7, that the way the items were hidden suggests they were being kept secretly and possibly stolen.

He said this case is different from a previous one involving a similar discovery at a private home, which is also under investigation.

According to him, the suspect from the earlier case gave inconsistent statements, which raised more doubts.

He added that the Regional Security Coordinator will contact the national office in Accra for further instructions, especially since no one has come forward to claim the newly discovered items.

“The stocks here are different from the ones that we uncovered in that private residence. That one has been owned by a contractor.

The main concern authorities have with one of the suspects is how the electrical materials ended up at his private residence. Additionally, the list of items he provided during questioning did not match what was actually found. Investigators say they are still in the early stages of the case.

The Regional Security Coordinator is expected to contact the national headquarters in Accra for further instructions. So far, no one has claimed ownership of the items. According to officials, even nearby residents said they don’t know who owns the goods or how they got there.

One of the suspects, Evans Lartey, claims he is innocent. He said he is a certified contractor for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and that he legally supplies meters and cables under contract.

Authorities say investigations are still ongoing to confirm where the materials came from and whether they were legally acquired.

China to prosecute citizens repatriated from Ghana over illegal mining – Reports

Government’s choice to deport foreign nationals involved in illegal mining and other crimes instead of putting them on trial in Ghana has sparked mixed reactions. Some Ghanaians are asking why local offenders are taken to court, while foreigners are simply sent back to their countries.

According to Citi News investigations, deported foreigners are handed over to law enforcement in their home countries, where they face prosecution. Officials at the Ministry of the Interior say Ghana’s embassies, including the one in China, keep track of these legal cases and give regular updates to the Ministry.

In a recent case, 30 Chinese nationals arrested for illegal mining, known locally as “galamsey,” were deported. At the Kotoka International Airport, they were handed over to Chinese immigration officers. The operation was led by Superintendent Li Ran, who heads airport operations. Sources say the process was carried out politely and professionally.

The Chinese government has reportedly backed Ghana’s decision, calling the involvement of Chinese citizens in galamsey shameful and harmful to the good relationship between the two countries.

“Foreigners arrested for illegal mining often exploit loopholes in the judicial process,” the source explained. “They establish connections within security agencies and deliberately choose courts that offer favorable bail terms. Once granted bail, they relocate to different districts and resume their illegal activities, while court cases drag on for years without resolution.”

Since Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak assumed office as Minister for the Interior, more than 100 foreign nationals—including Chinese citizens—have been deported for offenses related to illegal mining and other crimes.

Officials from the Interior Ministry stressed that the deportation strategy is not designed to favor foreigners, but rather to prevent abuse of Ghana’s legal system and safeguard national interests. “The aim is to ensure swift justice and reduce the risk of recidivism among offenders who manipulate court delays and lax bail conditions,” one official noted.

Ghanaians who are caught working with foreign nationals involved in illegal mining are being prosecuted in the country, and the Ministry of the Interior says no one will be spared.

At a recent meeting with police officers in the Ashanti Region, the Interior Minister warned law enforcement and prosecutors not to change the identities of foreign suspects to help them avoid deportation. He made it clear that anyone caught doing so would face punishment.

The Ministry is also working with the embassies of the deported individuals to make the repatriation process smoother. The embassies pay for the return flights of their citizens, while the Ghanaian government covers the cost of Immigration officers who escort them.

Officials say this method helps strengthen Ghana’s cooperation with other countries in tackling international crime. It also improves national security and speeds up justice. Photos from the Immigration Service show Chinese nationals being escorted and handed over to Chinese authorities for prosecution over illegal mining and fraud.

Van Dijk reveals positive steps in his contract talks with Liverpool

Captain of Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk, has shared that discussions about a new contract with the club have made progress as the summer transfer window approaches. Following the team’s 3-2 defeat to Fulham on Saturday, the Dutch defender confirmed that there have been positive developments in his contract talks with the club this week.

As Van Dijk is set to turn 34 in July, questions have arisen about his future at Liverpool, with some reports suggesting his position at the club may be uncertain.

“There is progress, yeah. I don’t know, we’ll see. Listen, these are internal discussions and we’ll see.

“I love the club, I love the fans and they were there for us again and we wanted to reward them at Fulham. But want I them to be there against West Ham on Sunday again and make the stadium an amazing venue like always for us.”

Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, two of Van Dijk’s teammates, are expected to leave Liverpool at the end of the season. Manager Arne Slot is working hard to find replacements for them.

However, with positive developments in talks with one of the world’s top defenders, the club might not need to spend too much when the transfer window opens.

The 33-year-old Van Dijk addressed the loss to Fulham, admitting that the team simply wasn’t good enough on the day.

“It was a poor day at the office for all of us. I think they were individual moments that should have been dealt with better. In games, these moments can happen but if you let them back in, they obviously scored three goals and we were on the back foot.

“No one can ever be perfect and we were sloppy and today we got punished quickly and like I said then it’s a difficult battle to play. We still had the belief, still had opportunities but, based on the first half, you can’t argue with the result.”

  • X moves to crack down on impersonation profiles

X moves to crack down on impersonation profiles

X is introducing tougher rules for parody accounts starting April 10.

Under the new guidelines, any account pretending to be someone else must clearly include the word “fake” or “parody” at the beginning of its account name. In addition, these accounts must not use the same profile pictures as the real people or accounts they are imitating.

This move comes after several users raised concerns about being misled by parody accounts, especially ones pretending to be X owner Elon Musk.

“These changes are designed to help users better understand the unaffiliated nature of PCF accounts and reduce the risk of confusion or impersonation,” the company said in a post on Saturday.

It encouraged affected accounts to update their profiles by the enforcement date.
The changes will also apply for fan and commentary accounts, it said.

“Hopefully this includes all the thousands of fake variations of Elon Musk accounts,” wrote one user in response to X’s post about its policy update.

“About time, I get a fake Elon account contacting me almost once a week,” wrote another.
There are many parody accounts of Elon Musk on X, each using different ways to show they’re fake. Some of these accounts post funny memes, jokes, or even promote things like cryptocurrency and fake car giveaways.

In one example, a parody account with over a million followers asked users to “like and comment” for a chance to win a Tesla. That post ended up getting 428,000 likes and over 200,000 replies.

Back in January, X introduced labels for parody accounts. This built on earlier rules that required users who impersonate others for entertainment to make it clear they are doing so. The platform’s blue tick system was also meant to help users tell real accounts from fake ones. However, some say these steps haven’t worked well enough.

In July 2024, the European Union criticized the blue tick feature, saying it could mislead users. They said some verified accounts might confuse people. Musk responded by calling the EU’s claims “misinformation.”

After he bought X in November 2022, Musk warned that accounts pretending to be someone else without clearly saying so would be banned.

While many parody accounts do label themselves—often putting “parody” in brackets at the end of their usernames—this isn’t always effective. When account names are too long, only part of the name shows up in posts or replies. If the profile photo also matches the real person, users can easily be fooled.

Real Valladolid rebukes players over heated bench altercation

Real Valladolid’s struggles continued on Sunday as they suffered a heavy 4-0 home loss to Getafe—and things got even worse on the bench.

During the match, with Valladolid already down 3-0 in the 66th minute, tension boiled over between defender Luis Pérez and striker Juan Miguel Latasa, who had been substituted earlier. Cameras caught the heated argument between the two players.

At one point, Pérez tried to hit Latasa on the arm, but teammate Eray Cömert, who was sitting between them, stepped in to stop him. A coach quickly intervened and had a word with Pérez, who then left the bench and headed to the dressing room.

After the match, the club released a statement saying both players will face disciplinary action for their behavior.

“Real Valladolid wishes to express its strong condemnation of the incident that occurred today on the bench between players Luis Pérez and Juan Miguel Latasa during the match against Getafe CF,” they said.

“We deeply regret the image given by our players. The frustration that the sporting situation is leading us all to must be transformed into greater commitment, a better attitude, and improved performance, never into division and confrontation.

“Therefore, in defense of the club’s image and respect for our teammates and, especially, our fans, Real Valladolid will proceed to apply the General Disciplinary Regulations to both players.”

Valladolid, a club owned by Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazario, has had a difficult season, winning only four out of 30 league matches.

Their last win came on January 11, and since then, things have gone downhill. Sunday’s heavy loss marked their 10th defeat in the last 11 games.

With just eight matches left to play, they now sit 14 points away from safety, making their chances of avoiding relegation extremely slim.

See what Neymar, Memphis Depay fume as Brazil FA bans ball-standing move

Neymar and Memphis Depay are among the top footballers who have spoken out against a new rule introduced by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).

The CBF has informed all clubs in Brazil’s domestic league that any player who stands on the ball with both feet will now receive a yellow card. In addition, the other team will be given an indirect free kick.

According to the CBF’s letter the act of standing on the ball “in addition to the player risking an injury, generates widespread disruptions in games, is considered a provocation to a rival and disrespects the game.”

“Football is getting more and more boring,” Santos captain Neymar wrote on Instagram.

Corinthians star Memphis Depay says there are more important things referees should focus on than whether a player is standing on a ball.
Depay recently did that action and it provoked Palmeiras players during the Campeonato Paulista final, which his team won.

The Netherlands international said after Saturday’s 3-0 league win against Vasco da Gama: “I don’t know what the VAR did, in the first half they should have checked, it was a clear foul for a red card. But instead, they prefer to create rules here [in Brazil] like not being able to get on the ball, what are we talking about?

“If we carry on like this, those who decide things in soccer are doing the wrong things. I want to be clear about this, Brazil is a country where we play soccer, you don’t just play soccer with your feet, you also play with your head. They have to do a better job.”

Bukayo Saka says there’s ‘no rush’ to renew his contract with Arsenal; hopes to win the Ballon d’Or one day

Bukayo Saka has suggested that he plans to stay at Arsenal for a long time, saying he wants “to win while wearing this badge.” He also shared his dream of one day winning the Ballon d’Or.

The England international still has two years left on his current Arsenal contract, which is reportedly worth up to £300,000 a week. The club is expected to begin talks with him soon about a new deal.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League quarterfinal first-leg clash with Real Madrid, Saka said,: “For me, I want to win and I want to win wearing this badge.

“I think it is pretty clear — the fans know how much I love them and you saw when I came on on Tuesday [against Everton], I think they love me back so it is a good relationship. I am really happy to be here and I’m just focused on winning.
“I don’t think anyone is really in a rush. I have got two years left on my contract so it is pretty relaxed. Everyone knows my thoughts and I’ve let you guys know as well so I don’t think there’s any rush really.”

Saka, whose sole trophy win remains the 2020 FA Cup, returned from an almost four-month absence following hamstring surgery last week and is set to start against Madrid for the first time, facing off against Vinícius Júnior, Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham among others in the conversation for the Ballon d’Or.

“If you ask my physios, there was a lot of conversation about this game,” Saka said. “I was waiting to be back and not just back, back in good shape. I’m feeling good. That’s what I spent a lot of months working massively towards and we’re here now so I’m excited.”

Saka finished 21st in the voting for last year’s Ballon d’Or — won by Manchester City midfielder Rodri ahead of Vinícius Júnior — and asked winning the prize was a target of his, the 23-year-old replied: “It’s a dream. I think it’s a dream for a lot of players. I’m just working hard to do my best for my team, and any individual awards that come of it, I’ll accept it.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has urged his players to create their own legacy as they prepare for only their second Champions League quarterfinal in the past 15 years.

Last season, the Gunners were knocked out at this stage by Bayern Munich. Speaking ahead of the match, Arteta said,“Building those experiences is something necessary.

BoG plans to auction $120m to Bulk Oil Distribution Companies in Q2 of 2025

Bank of Ghana (BoG) plans to auction $120 million to Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs) in the second quarter of 2025 as part of efforts to ease the pressure on foreign exchange demand and stabilize the Ghana Cedi.

The auctions will take place on six dates between April and June and are exclusively for BDCs to obtain dollars for importing petroleum, which is a major factor driving forex demand in the country.

Each auction will offer $20 million, totaling $120 million for the second quarter.

These auctions are part of the Central Bank’s strategy to reduce volatility in the foreign exchange market, particularly in the petroleum sector, where there is typically high demand for dollars.

The first auction is scheduled for April 10, with additional auctions on April 29, May 14, May 28, June 12, and June 26.

“The Bank of Ghana announces for the information of all Authorised Foreign Exchange Dealing Banks, the Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs) FX forward Auction Calendar for the second quarter of 2025. In accordance with the BDCs Forex Forward Auction guidelines, bids are invited as per the prescribed format to purchase United States Dollars against Ghana cedis, separately on each auction date and should be submitted via the dedicated email bogforwards@bog.gov.gh,” part of a statement issued the Central Bank read.

Bids for the auctions must be submitted by authorized foreign exchange dealing banks on behalf of the BDCs during the specified hours on each auction day. The results will be announced later in the afternoon.

Man found lifeless near road in Ahwiaa

A 25-year-old man, Richmond Owusu Kankam, has been found dead under unclear circumstances in Ahwiaa, a town in the Kwabre East Municipality, Ashanti Region.

Richmond’s body was discovered lying by the roadside near the Ahwiaa RC School on the morning of Sunday, April 6, 2025. His death has caused shock and sadness in the community.

The young man, who lived with his grandmother in Mamponteng, was last seen on Friday when he left home to run errands at the market. His mother, Nana Yaa, shared that she received a worrying phone call from him later that day.

“One of my siblings in Accra called to ask if I had heard that Rich had been killed,” she said.

Worried, Nana Yaa visited his workplace, only to find it closed with no sign of her son’s presence.

She then visited various locations he frequented in an attempt to find him, but her search was in vain. Desperate, she filed a report with the Mamponteng Police.

“They told me he might have spent the night at his girlfriend’s house,” she said, expressing frustration over the lack of urgency in the response.

The following day, Nana Yaa resumed her search. While riding in a tricycle, the driver mentioned that a body had been found nearby. Acting on her instincts, she went to the location and was devastated to identify the body as her son’s.

The discovery has shocked the community, and residents are demanding a quick and thorough investigation into the cause of Richmond’s death.

The police have not yet issued an official statement on the matter.

I can’t picture Real Madrid without Viní Jr. – Mbappe reacts to tension with teammate

Kylian Mbappé has said he can’t picture Real Madrid without his teammate Vinícius Júnior, even though some people think it might be hard for both of them to play together in the same attack.

When Mbappé moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Madrid last summer, rumours began that Vinícius might leave the club. There was even reported interest from Saudi Arabia. However, ESPN has said that Vinícius is now more likely to sign a new contract with Real Madrid.

Mbappé talked about his bond with Vinícius during a detailed interview on Spanish TV station La Sexta on Sunday. It was his first personal interview since joining Real Madrid.

“The relationship [with Vini] is good,” Mbappé said. “It’s normal that people want to talk about us, because we’re two famous players who can make a difference, but I came to Real Madrid with the idea of playing with Vini.

“I can’t imagine Madrid without Vini, I always had the idea of playing with him. We play well together. We can always do better, the fans always expect more of us and it’s normal, but I think we play well together and now at this stage of the season we’re going to try to help Madrid as much as we can.”

After a slow start, Mbappé has now scored 22 goals in LaLiga — 33 in all competitions — to help Madrid stay in contention for the league title, reach the Copa del Rey final, and the Champions League quarterfinals.
Ballon d’Or runner-up Vinícius has had a more inconsistent season, but has still scored 11 league goals, and 20 overall, with seven coming in the Champions League.

Mbappé said he’d never doubted joining Real Madrid — a club he watched as a boy, following idols Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo — despite the possibility of earning more money elsewhere.

“I have no problems talking about money, but there are more important things. I wanted to play for Real Madrid,” Mbappé said. “Money is important, but for me the most important thing is being happy on the pitch and in life.”

Mbappé later clarified in a post on X that his comments had “No connection with PSG” and he was simply discussing his options after leaving the Ligue 1 club.

“The question was about the next step and the choice, for example, of Saudi Arabia or a club like Real,” Mbappé posted.

In the interview, Mbappé also discussed his mother, Fayza Lamari, saying her “tough image” isn’t warranted.

“In the world of football, people don’t want there to be a lot of women,” Mbappé said. “She isn’t my agent, she’s my mother. She only wants the best for me.”

The France international also discussed his revelation that he’d hit “rock bottom” after struggling earlier in the season, culminating in a missed penalty against Athletic Club on Dec. 4.

“I know people and teammates who’ve had depression. I wasn’t playing well, but it wasn’t for mental health reasons,” Mbappé said. “I didn’t like it when people said that, because it’s a serious subject … In Bilbao I hit rock bottom in a sporting sense, not a mental one.”

Madrid face Arsenal in their Champions League quarterfinal first leg on Tuesday, in a demanding month which also includes a Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26.

  • Pep slams Man Utd fans for ‘lack of class’ chants toward Foden

Pep slams Man Utd fans for ‘lack of class’ chants toward Foden

Pep Guardiola has criticized a group of Manchester United fans for showing a “lack of class” after they directed offensive chants at Manchester City’s Phil Foden during Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

Foden, 24, who had a quiet performance, was substituted by City manager Guardiola in the second half. The England midfielder, who grew up supporting City in Stockport, was one of just two local players in the match, alongside City’s Nico O’Reilly.

Despite his local connection, Foden endured derogatory chants from the United fans, to which he responded by giving them a thumbs-up. Guardiola expressed disappointment, suggesting that the behavior of these fans reflected troubling trends in today’s society.

“Lack of class,” Guardiola said when asked about the chants aimed at Foden. “But it’s not United, it’s the people, you know?

“We are so exposed in the screen in world football — managers, owners, and football players especially. Honestly, I don’t understand the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil. It’s a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed.”

Manchester City’s draw in the game means they remain in fifth place in the Premier League, holding onto the final Champions League spot, just one point ahead of Aston Villa. Villa will visit the Etihad on April 22.

Newcastle, currently in seventh place, are only two points behind City, having played two fewer games. If they win their upcoming match against struggling Leicester City, they could move ahead of City into the fifth spot.

Despite the pressure of potentially missing out on the Champions League, Guardiola stated that he is not worried about the team’s chances of qualifying.

“Nothing,” Guardiola said when asked his thoughts about finishing in the top five. “All that is important is our next game, against Crystal Palace.

“We will prepare for the upcoming games. There are a few things I’m happy with what I saw, but now we need to achieve the target of qualifying for Champions League, then next season is next season.”

President Mahama blocking UN postings for high-ranking Ashanti military personnel – Ntim Fordjour alleges

Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, has accused former President John Dramani Mahama of halting the promotion of several high-ranking Ashanti military officers.

These officers were supposed to be reassigned from lieutenant colonels to colonels in United Nations mission operations.

Fordjour, the MP for Assin South, explained that these appointments had been planned months in advance but were blocked by President Mahama, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.

In an interview with Mensa Musa on Voice of London Radio on April 4, 2025, Fordjour criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, claiming it was off to a bad start. He also accused the government of engaging in tribalistic practices.

“They are using politics to dismiss people left, right, and centre; as I speak to you, call anyone in the Ghana Armed Forces and ask them how is it that Ashanti high-ranking military officers, from lieutenant colonels to colonels, who had been promoted and appointed to UN missions, suddenly had their appointments reversed.

“These arrangements were made three to four months ago, and now this government has rescinded all such appointments for Ashantis while leaving appointments for officers from other tribes intact,” he said.

Ntim Fordjour raised concerns about what he called a politically motivated, tribal, and ethnocentric approach to governance.

He also criticized the current situation, pointing out serious issues like the suspected rise in cocaine trafficking and money laundering.

“What kind of political, tribal, and ethnocentric governance is this?” he asked.

“Cocaine is everywhere; money laundering is everywhere. I am telling you, they have started on a very terrible note. I have all the proof of this. I even mentioned it on Ekosiison and asked them to verify. The kind of text messages they received shocked them.”

Reverend Ntim Fordjour had earlier criticized President Mahama for appointing a Brigadier General as Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces. This decision led to the resignation of several senior generals, whose ranks were higher than Major General William Agyapong, the current Chief of Defence Staff.

Former Ghanaian Ambassador Sam Pee Yalley reportedly dead

Former Ghanaian High Commissioner to India and President of the NDC Professionals Forum, Sam Pee Yalley, has passed away.

While the exact cause of his death is still unclear, sources from Channel One News confirm that he died on Sunday at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

His passing has led to an outpouring of tributes from key figures within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, who expressed his condolences on social media.

“I learnt with pain the passing of my brother and friend, Ambassador Sam Pee Yalley, an astute statesman and respected member of our party, the National Democratic Congress,” he wrote.

“Ambassador Yalley was a champion of professionalism in politics and a key figure of the NDC’s Professionals Forum.
My deep condolences to everyone mourning the passing of this great man, particularly members of his immediate family.”

Ambassador Yalley was an experienced lawyer and public servant. Before becoming Ghana’s Ambassador to India in 2014, he held the position of Deputy CEO at the National Pensions Regulatory Authority under President John Mahama.

In addition to his legal and diplomatic roles, Sam Pee Yalley was well-regarded for his advocacy, particularly his strong support for promoting female leadership in Ghana.
