The family of an infant nearly abducted at Zebilla District Hospital is demanding immediate justice by insisting that the apprehended suspect be turned over to them.
Furious, the family gathered at the Zebilla Divisional Police Station, urging authorities to release the unnamed female suspect to them for retribution.
“This is my first child, and she wanted to destroy my life by stealing him. So, I want the police to hand her over to me so that I can destroy her too,” the father of the baby told Kasapafmonline.com.
Background
The unidentified suspect gained access to the hospital by posing as a visitor to a patient.
Engaging in conversation with the baby’s mother, Felicia Dery, the suspect built a rapport with her.
Trusting the suspect, Felicia handed her one-week-old baby over for care while she took a bath.
However, the suspect fled with the baby. Thanks to a radio broadcast and subsequent police report, community members aided in her capture.
The Family Roars
Upon learning of the suspect’s arrest, the family rushed to the police station to confirm the news.
However, their visit took a negative turn as Joe, the baby’s father, alleged that he was assaulted by the police.
This claim enraged Joe’s relatives, sparking heated confrontations between them and the law enforcement officers.
As Kasapafmonline.com’s reporter, Musah Lansah, departed from the scene, the family persisted in their demand for the suspect’s immediate release to them for justice.

National Democratic Congress (NDC) has instructed all its representatives nationwide to defy and ignore the Electoral Commission’s (EC) directive to its district officers to prevent the presence of party agents during the ongoing vote transfer process.
Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC, strongly criticized the EC’s instruction, labeling it as “appalling and unacceptable,” suggesting it is designed to facilitate unfair manipulation of voter transfers.
In a statement released on June 3, the NDC’s General Secretary accused the EC of collaborating with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to undermine the transparency of the process, urging party agents to disregard the directive.
The EC, in a memo issued to its district officers on Sunday, June 2, cited instances of violent clashes at some transfer centers as the reason for prohibiting political party agents from attending.
“The Commission’s attention has been drawn to the violent clashes occurring at some of the District Offices as a result of the Transfer of Votes Exercise.
“Regional Directors are to inform District Officers not to allow Agents of Political Parties to observe the Transfer of Votes Exercise with effect from tomorrow, Monday, June 3, 2024.”
Fifi Kwetey said the insistence on the directive is “in furtherance of the suspected devious and sinister agenda of the Commission to manipulate the processes leading to the 2024 elections” and therefore called for its outright defiance.
“The National Democratic Congress therefore hereby calls on all its agents across the country to defy and disregard this outrageous directive by the Electoral Commission.
“All structures of the party, particularlyRegional and Constituency Secretariats, are hereby directed to deploy NDC agents to all district offices of the EC to closely monitor the ongoing voter transfer exercise.”
Public Interest Accountability Committee (PIAC) has reported a 36 percent shortfall in the payments made by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) under the Cash Waterfall Mechanism (CWM) for gas in 2023.
According to the 2023 report, ECG paid approximately GHS 250 million, falling short of the expected GHS 385 million. This leaves an outstanding debt of GHS 140 million for the year.
The CWM and Natural Gas Clearinghouse (NGCH) outline the procedures for allocating and distributing tariff revenues collected by ECG to various entities in the electricity value chain, including the Ghana National Gas Company Limited (GNGLC) and the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC).
Payments are made directly to these stakeholders based on a percentage of the monthly invoice amounts.
Despite allocations being made in July and August, ECG failed to make the corresponding payments.
The report also highlighted that GNGLC’s debt to GNPC has continued to increase, despite the implementation of the CWM to manage legacy debts.
Physician, author, and politician, Dr. Arthur Kobina Kennedy, has voiced his concerns overPresident Nana Addo Dankwa‘s governance approach, noting a stark difference between the promises made by candidate Akufo-Addo and the actions of President Akufo-Addo.
Dr. Kennedy recalls that before becoming president, Akufo-Addo shared with him his worries about the excessive powers vested in the Executive by the constitution, which he believed impeded presidential accountability.
On the AM Show on JoyNews, Dr. Kennedy recounted a past conversation with Akufo-Addo, in which the then-candidate expressed a preference for a Prime Ministerial system over a Presidential one, citing the former’s superior checks and balances.
However, Dr. Kennedy now struggles to align the admirable perspectives Akufo-Addo held prior to his 2016 election with the actions and decisions he has made since becoming president in 2017.
“The President once told me, ‘I don’t like the presidential system,’ and I said, ‘Why?’ and he said, ‘Because it gives too much power to one person’,” Dr. Kennedy who is also a leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) recounted.
“He says, ‘In the Prime Ministerial system, you are only a first among equals, so your colleagues can rein you in when you get too dictatorial.’
That was very admirable, hearing that from him, and when you put that beside the person we are seeing as president now, it is very difficult for me to reconcile the two,” he continued.
Dr. Kennedy expressed dismay at how Akufo-Addo has seemingly embraced the very powers he once criticized, failing to uphold the constitutional principles and the sense of propriety he once championed.
“I am stunned. You know, you would have expected that apart from everything else, you could rely on him to be a guardian of our constitutional principles—you know, respect for boundaries, sense of propriety, making sure the nation does not get harmed.
“Opportunity after opportunity, you get the impression that he just has not found it in him to do that, and it is sad watching that,” Dr. Kennedy lamented, reflecting on the president’s missed chances to be a guardian of Ghana’s constitutional values.
Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II,has expressed strong disapproval over the recent scandal involving the former Minister of Sanitation, who was discovered with large amounts of cash at home.
He stressed that such behavior is unbecoming of a public official and should be condemned by all responsible Ghanaians.
In an interview with Citi FM on Sunday, June 2, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II emphasized that those engaging in such conduct do not have the nation’s best interests at heart.
He asserted that these behaviors reveal a lack of patriotism and disregard for the country’s welfare.
The King firmly stated that individuals exhibiting such self-serving tendencies are unfit for leadership positions.
He expressed concern that permitting such individuals to lead would lead to further exploitation of state resources for personal gain.
“It beats my mind how someone who says they love this country so much could stash so much money in their room.
“Corruption is everywhere. I believe that the government must find a way to stamp its authority on corruption.”
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II also highlighted the initiatives of the Ga Mantse Foundation in supporting education in Accra.
He mentioned that his office has donated thousands of starter packs to school children, aiming to enhance their educational experience.
“I could’ve used all that money to live in luxury, buy a V8, or do whatever. But I’m interested in the welfare of my people,” he added.
Judiciary will commence live media coverage of High Court proceedings related to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill today.
This initiative follows the precedent set by the Chief Justice, who previously permitted media houses to livestream the hearing of Richard Sky’s injunction application concerning the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
The Judicial Service has now extended this access to all cases associated with the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
This decision came after Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, formally requested the Chief Justice to allow live coverage of the proceedings related to the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly referred to as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
Dame cited the considerable public interest in the matter as the primary reason for his request.
“Respectfully, in view of the public interest in the cases concerning the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill 2024 (the Bill) I would like to recommend that the media (including radio and television) be given full access to the relevant courts to undertake coverage of all proceedings in those cases concerning the Bill,” he wrote.
He added, “It is my respectful view that the transparency to be engendered by a coverage of the proceedings would be in the best interest of the administration of justice.”
The Attorney General specifically highlighted cases in both the Supreme Court and High Court that will address the legality of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
Currently, four cases related to the bill have been filed across various levels of the judiciary.
Two cases are set to be heard at the High Court, while the remaining two will be addressed by the Supreme Court.
One of the High Court cases is scheduled for a hearing later today in the General Jurisdiction 8 courtroom.

An opinion poll conducted by Global Info Analytics across four constituencies in the Greater Accra Region reveals that John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, currently holds the majority of votes.
These constituencies—Okaikwei Central, Okaikwei South, Anyaa Sowutuom, and Trobu—have historically been strongholds of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), evidenced by their voting patterns in previous elections.
However, the poll results, released on May 31, 2024, indicate a significant shift just six months before the general election. In constituencies where the NPP secured an average of 62% of the vote in the 2020 election, the leading opposition candidate, John Mahama, now leads with 40.5%.
“The current vice president and flag bearer of the governing NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is on 36%, Nana Kwame Bediako, the New Force with 1.8%, Alan Kyeremanten, Movement for Change with 1.7%. 10.4% of voters say they will not vote and 9.4% are undecided,” the poll revealed.
In the parliamentary election, Patrick Yaw Boamah leads in Okaikwei Central with 50.5%, Baba Sadiq, 36%, 6.9% of voters do not intend to vote while 7.6% are undecided. Hon. Patrick Boamah won the seat in the 2020 election with nearly 19% margin.
According to Global InfoAnalytics, in Okaikwei South, the incumbent member of parliament’s chances of retaining her seat is hanging by the thread as poll shows the race is tied with Dakoa Newman leading with 40.4%, followed closely by Ernest Adomako, 38.5%. 10.6% are undecided and 10.5% will not vote. In the 2020 election, the incumbent won her race with nearly 22% margin.
“In the Anyaa Sowutuom, Elder Emmanuel Tobin leads the race with 41.8% followed by Emmanuel A. Allotey, NDC, 31.9%, Grace Ashley, Movement for Change, 2.7%, undecided, 10.1% and I will not vote, 13.5%. Hon. Dickson Adomako Kissi, the outgoing member of parliament, won the seat in the 2020 elections with nearly 30% margin,” Global Info Analytics indicated.
The Poll’s outcome shows that in the Trobu constituency, where Gloria Owusu, the NPP parliamentary candidate who ousted Hon. Moses Anim, leads with 44.8%, Dr John Kofi Halm with 36.7%, others, 0.5%, undecided, 5.8% and I will not vote, 12.2%. Hon. Moses Anim won the 2020 elections with nearly 28% margin.
“Analysis of the poll shows that in all the four BLUE constituencies, there is strong evidence from the data to suggest “skirt and blouse voting” tactical voting as all NPP candidates outperform their presidential candidate,” Mussa Dankwa’s outfit revealed.
Regarding voter inducement through projects during the election period, the poll reveals that only 28% of voters would support the government if they initiate projects just before the elections.
In contrast, 64% would not be swayed to vote for the ruling party, and 5% remain indifferent.
Similarly, on the question of whether the One-Student-One-Tablet policy might influence voters in the December election, only 31% indicated it would affect their vote in favor of the government.
Meanwhile, 64% said it would not influence their decision, and 5% were indifferent.
Zebilla District Hospital was thrown into a state of shock when it was discovered that anewborn baby had disappeared from the maternity ward under peculiar circumstances.

According to Madam Zangina, on Saturday evening, the mother of the baby befriended a stranger who pretended to be a relative of another patient. The mother entrusted her baby to this individual while she went to take a bath.
Unbeknownst to her, the imposter had a male accomplice.
“When she returned, the man and the lady were not to be found. They left with the baby. So it has been very sad.”
Dr. Ayobi Abdul-Rahaman, the medical superintendent at the hospital, has confirmed the incident and stated that the police were promptly notified.
He mentioned that potential leads aiding the investigation of the kidnappers have been identified and passed on to the authorities, expressing hope for their swift apprehension.

IMANI Africa’s founder and president, Franklin Cudjoe, has indicated a greater level of trust in Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance trial, overthe Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.
According to him, he is more inclined to believe the allegations made by Jakpa against Dame because he believes the leaked tape recording of Jakpa’s conversation with the AG was not manipulated or manufactured by Jakpa.
While speaking on Citi TV’s ‘Big Issue’ program, Franklin Cudjoe conveyed his unwavering belief in Mr. Jakpa’s claim that President Akufo-Addo and the former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, applied pressure on the Attorney General to secure Ato Forson’s conviction in the ambulance trial.
“I have said that this case is very stupid, excuse my language, a political case. What was the point? You could see that it was clearly his intent.
I’m hearing that he said to Jakpa that the former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and President Akufo-Addo, are pressuring him and he has to do something, hell no. I believe this story 100%,” myjoyonline.com quoted him to have said in the interview on Citi TV.
“I don’t think Jakpa manufactured the tape. Jakpa is not a stupid man. I’m tempted to believe Jakpa more than the Attorney General right now, there’s nothing that the AG will say that I will believe him ever again.
At this juncture, Jakpa rules. Jakpa might have asked at a point why are you determined to jail this guy [Ato Forson],” Franklin Cudjoe said.
Meanwhile, Franklin Cudjoe has also called for the dismissal of Attorney General Godfred Dame following the release of the controversial audio recording.
In a post on social media, Cudjoe expressed his regret for previously defending the Attorney General and called for his resignation.
“And I am sorry. I was wrong about AG’s inability to do what he has been accused of. Nipa yɛ cobra. He must go,” Cudjoe posted.
He further stated, “I was right about the AG. Ato Forson’s trial was political.”
Joana Gyan is the Chief Executive Officerof the gold dealership firm, Golden Empire Legacy Limited. She is also the Founder and CEO of Gem Multimedia Ghana Limited.
In Ghana, there is a widespread perception that many individuals enter politics as a means to enrich themselves quickly.
This belief is often fueled by the noticeable lifestyle changes observed in politicians, including parliamentarians, once they attain power.
However, not all politicians fit this narrative, as some are already wealthy before stepping into the political arena.
One such example is Joana Gyan, the newly elected National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi Central Constituency, who had amassed considerable wealth prior to her political career.
In 2022, she received an award from Forbes as the Best Female Miner of the Year, 2021.
She also received the FIN Gold Woman of The Year award and the FIN Woman Executive Visionary of The Year award in the same year.
Joana Gyan has stated that her main motivation for entering politics is to make a difference in her community, not money.
Speaking in an interview on “The Delay Show” in 2020, Gyan disclosed that she earns $700 million annually through the gold export business she owns.
“I make about $700 million every year, around $65 million per month. My company exports gold… When I started, I was making around $200,000 to $1 million,” she said in Twi when asked about her net worth.
“I have both small-scale and large-scale gold export licenses… I also have a company involved in mining,” she added.
The businesswoman and entrepreneur is married to Ghanaian musician Andrew Kofi Cudjoe, a member of the Keche group.
Starting June 17 of this year, all children attending basic school nationwide will be assigned Ghana Card identity numbers.
This announcement was made byDr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during his visit to the Oti region in Dambai.
He explained that the Government has collaborated with various agencies including the Ghana Health Service, the Births and Deaths Registry (BDR), the Ghana Statistical Service, and the National Identification Authority (NIA) to integrate their systems for seamless deployment.
This integration aims to provide every child aged 0 to 13 years in Ghana with a unique identity number, linking them to their parents’ identity and ensuring their inclusion in the national identity system.
Dr Bawumia said the Ghana Card “is not just an ID, but also a promise to our children of a future, where their identity and rights are recognised from their very first birth.”
“It is a testament to our commitment to building an effective, efficient responsive and accountable public sector that meet the needs of the Ghanaian citizenry,” Dr Bawumia said.
Following this, he embarked on a tour to the Dambai Saturday market, where the market women warmly greeted him.
Other traders and residents also gathered around, eager to catch a glimpse of him as he stopped to exchange pleasantries with them.
This visit extended Dr. Bawumia and his campaign team’s time by close to an hour before they proceeded to the Presbyterian Church, where he was scheduled to meet with the participants of ‘Youth Connect.’
Throughout the campaign tour, supporters have demonstrated vibrant hospitality, expressing their confidence in his leadership and the NPP’s capacity to guide the country towards greater success.
Former Zambian First Lady Esther Lungu and her daughter Chiyeso Katete, along with a close relative Charles Phiri, were apprehended in Lusaka on Thursday for suspected possession of properties believed to be acquired through illegal means.
According to authorities, Ms. Lungu failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the acquisition of a $1.5 million estate in the capital.
Former President Edgar Lungu vowed to challenge the charges in court, alleging government victimization as he prepares for the 2026 elections.
This arrest follows previous allegations against Ms. Lungu last September regarding corruption charges, including theft of motor vehicles and title deeds, which she denied.
It said Ms Lungu owned “15 white double storey flats” situated in State Lodge area of Lusaka’s Chongwe town, “reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime”.
The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) stated that the precise acquisition date of the property, jointly owned with undisclosed individuals, remained unclear but was purchased between 2015 and 2023.
Additionally, the DEC noted that her daughter faced further allegations concerning the acquisition of an additional three-flat estate in Lusaka, suspected to have been obtained through fraudulent means.
“Further, she was arrested for possession of 1 high-cost house, four chicken runs, and associated external works in the property,” the agency added.
Mr. Lungu disclosed that they were all released on bond and assured that they were safe at home following hours of questioning by DEC officials on Thursday.
Separately, another daughter of Ms. Lungu, Tasila, is facing related charges, as per the DEC’s announcement.
She has been summoned to appear at the DEC on Monday, as directed by her legal representatives.
While the accused individuals refrained from commenting on the allegations, the former president issued a brief statement asserting that the family would contest them in court.
However, it remains uncertain when or if they will appear in court.
Mr. Lungu declared his return to politics in October last year, prompting the government to revoke his retirement benefits.
Having stepped down from office after losing the presidency to Hakainde Hichilema in 2021, Mr. Lungu left Zambia grappling with substantial debt and a fragile economy.
Zambia’s investigative agencies have scrutinized several former ministers, government officials, and members of Mr. Lungu’s family as part of President Hichilema’s anti-corruption initiative.
President Hichilema has pledged to reclaim all allegedly misappropriated resources during Mr. Lungu’s tenure.
Real Madrid secured their 15th UEFA Champions League title in a thrilling finale to the 2023-24 season, reaffirming their dominance in European football.
The final, hosted at London’s renowned Wembley Stadium, witnessed Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund.
Goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr in the 73rd and 82nd minutes respectively sealed the triumph for the Spanish giants.
Carvajal’s goal broke the deadlock after a tense standoff, while Vinicius Jr’s strike ensured Madrid’s victory.
Throughout their journey to the final, Real Madrid displayed impressive performances, defeating top European clubs including RB Leipzig, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich.
Despite Borussia Dortmund’s valiant efforts, they were unable to breach Madrid’s defense.
The German side, champions of the Champions League in 1997, fought hard but fell short against their experienced and skilled opponents.
The victory also underscores the exceptional leadership of Real Madrid’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, who guided the team to win the Spanish La Liga title earlier in the season.
Ancelotti’s strategic acumen played a pivotal role in Real Madrid’s success on theEuropean stage once again.
Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwahas revealed details linking former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, and his son to the ownership of the ‘famous’ SSNIT hotels.
Providing the information alongside copies of court documents on his social media handle, the National Democratic Congress MP stated that Freddie Blay’s son now asserts ownership of the beachfront of the Labadi Beach Hotel.
Additionally, the MP highlighted that this revelation makes the Ghanaian hotel the “only beachfront hotel in the world without exclusive control over its entire beachfront.”
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa elaborated on how this information surfaced, noting that it was disclosed in court documents filed by a former partner of Freddie Blay, who felt deceived by the former NPP national chairman.
“It has emerged that the Hon. Bryan Acheampong is not the only ruling party associate with ‘plans’ for Labadi Beach Hotel.
“The bombshell court documents confirm that the son of the former National Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Kwaw Worsemao Blay now claims to be the new owner of the beachfront which had always belonged to the Labadi Beach Hotel.
“Labadi Beach Hotel has thus become the only beachfront hotel in the world which does not have exclusive control over its entire beachfront.
“Sadly, because of the powerful politically exposed persons involved in this shady encroachment, the Board and management of Labadi Beach Hotel appear helpless.
“Ghanaians may never have known of this shocking hostile 2022 takeover by then NPP Chairman, Mr. Freddy Worsemao Blay’s son if Mr. Kwaw Worsemao Blay’s business partner, Mr. Loic Devos Junior had not initiated legal action at an Accra High Court (Commercial Division) on February 17, 2023 alleging that his business partner, Mr. Kwaw Worsemao Blay has cheated him out of their business operations and fraudulently denied him of the financial benefits of their joint business dealings,” he detailed.
The North Tongu legislator further disclosed that Loic Devos Junior, a partner to Freddie Blay, entered into a mutual agreement with the former NPP chairman but was subsequently deceived in the arrangement.
Following this, Freddie Blay allegedly restricted Loic Devos from accessing the company’s accounts, assuming full control of the business without his involvement.
Okudzeto Ablakwa also implicated a former Managing Director of theLabadi Beach Hotel in the matter involving Freddie Blay, suggesting that this led to the dismissal of the hotel boss, Rene Vincent-Ernst.
Explosive court documents I have obtained and currently analysing reveal that top politically exposed persons associated with the ruling NPP have long had a grand state capture scheme to completely take over SSNIT’s hotels, particularly, the super profitable Labadi Beach Hotel.… pic.twitter.com/VO05BfYJwN

Scores of community members swarmed an accident scene at Ohene-Nkwanta near Konongo on the Accra-Kumasi highwayforcefully opening the compartments of a tanker truck and siphoning diesel.
Despite intervention efforts by police and military officers, the crowd continued to take the diesel.
The accident, which occurred at about 7 am on Saturday, involved a tanker truck loaded with diesel, a Toyota Camry, and a VIP-branded bus. Tragically, one person died in the head-on collision.
The driver of the Toyota Camry died on the spot, while another occupant of the Camry, along with the driver and assistant of the tanker truck, sustained injuries and were hospitalized.

He made these remarks during a campaign tour in Dambai, where he spoke to a gathering of local chiefs and community members.
“Nananom, I want to comment on the issue of LGBTQ. For that practice, Ghana will never agree.
“Our culture doesn’t accept it, our religion doesn’t accept it. No matter what the consequences are, we are going to stand firm on our beliefs. We will never agree to such a thing. It is no, no, no!” he said.
On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Parliament of Ghana passed the Promotion of Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the anti-LGBT+ bill.
This legislation, pending presidential assent, bans LGBT+ activities and criminalizes their promotion, advocacy, and funding.
Individuals found engaging in these activities could face jail terms ranging from six months to three years, while promoters and sponsors could face three to five years in prison.
The bill requires presidential approval to become law within seven days.
The funeral for the late CEO of Royal Cosy Hills Hotel in Jirapa, Mr. Eric Johnson, took place on Saturday, June 1, 2024, following a requiem service.
The 60-year-old, who was tragically murdered, is survived by his three children—Grace Johnson, Karen Johnson, and Elfreda Erica Johnson—and two grandchildren.
The service, held at Nayiri Park in Jirapa, Upper West Region, drew family, friends, and well-wishers. A traditional mourning ceremony had been observed the previous day, on May 31, 2024.
Background
Mr. Eric Johnson, a businessman, was brutally stabbed to death by unknown assailants at his home on February 11, 2024, and was discovered in a pool of blood the following morning, according to a police situational report.
The motive for the crime remains unclear, but seven individuals, including hotel staff, have been arrested and are assisting the police with their investigations. The suspects are Dookuuri Fausta, Braimah Kasim, Beyuo Felix, Michael Klugey, all employees at Cosy Hill Hotel, and Kumbata Kwaku. Charles Tuoze and Favour Nuobe, also employees of Cosy Hill Hotel, are among those detained.
Recent forensic investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service suggest that Elisha Mahama, a Human Resource Manager who had worked at Royal Cosy Hills Hotel, is likely the perpetrator of the murder.
Loretta Asare, Mr. Mahama’s girlfriend and also a suspect, stated that Mr. Mahama left home on Saturday, February 10, 2024, claiming he was going to get food but returned at 2:20 am on Sunday, February 11, 2024, without it, saying he had forgotten to take money.
The murder of Mr. Eric Johnson was discovered on the morning of February 11, 2024.
The CID’s thorough investigations reveal that “latent impressions lifted from a glass wine shelf in the main living room of the deceased are identical in every aspect to the left middle fingerprint of suspect Elisha Mahama on his CID form.”
Furthermore, “the investigative reports also indicated that blood-tainted footprints have been found to be similar to those of suspect Elisha Mahama on his plain sheet.”
It has been confirmed that Mr. Elisha Mahama was present at the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel when he made a nine-minute call to Belinda Millah, another suspect, from the hotel’s coordinates.
The cause of Eric Johnson’s death has been determined to be asphyxiation, strangulation, suspected homicide, and severe blood loss.
A “mysterious” injury on Mr. Elisha Mahama’s right middle finger, which appeared on Sunday, February 11, 2024, suggests a likely struggle with the deceased.
This injury, according to suspects Ms. Loretta Asare and Joshua Tabiri, appeared only on February 11, 2024.
These findings position Mr. Elisha Mahama as the prime suspect, potentially in collaboration with others, in the murder of the respected entrepreneur.
Bank of Ghana (BoG)reported a loss of GH₵10.50 billion for the financial year ending 2023.
This loss was primarily driven by a significant increase in total interest expenses related to the Central Bank’s open market operations, which rose by GH₵6.7 billion during the review period.
The Bank attributed these heightened expenses to efforts to manage excess liquidity in the economy and support the disinflation process as part of a broader macroeconomic adjustment program.
As of December 31, 2023, the Bank of Ghana and its subsidiaries faced a situation where total liabilities exceeded total assets by GH₵65.36 billion.
Despite this, the total operating expenses for 2023 amounted to GH₵19.2 billion, a significant decrease from the GH₵66.9 billion recorded in 2022.
This reduction was mainly due to lower impairment charges on loans and advances and the Bank’s holdings of Government of Ghana securities.
Notably, the GH₵10.50 billion loss in 2023 represents a marked improvement from the GH₵60.9 billion loss incurred in 2022.
The previous year’s loss was largely due to the impairment of the Bank’s holdings of marketable government stocks and non-marketable instruments during the domestic debt exchange program.
The Bank of Ghana further explains that “this Open Market Operations activity, which accounted for a significant portion of the loss incurred yielded positive results.
The aggressive mopping up operations, contributed to slowing down inflation to 23.2 per cent bythe end of 2023, significantly down from the rate of 54.1 per cent at the end of 2022.”
Reports have surfaced confirming the tragic death of a businessman in Nigeria. According to sources, the individual was killed while being transported from Abuja by the police.
Investigations into the incident are currently underway.
An observer named Harrison, who has been closely monitoring developments at the police station, revealed that the businessman was shot while allegedly attempting to escape during transportation.
Furthermore, it was disclosed that the deceased had not disclosed the whereabouts of the missing women, adding complexity to the case.
“I travelled from Delta to Abuja with the victim and received threats. I was informed that Andrew, the man accused of kidnapping the two women, has been confirmed dead.
While in police custody in Aba, he lived comfortably until a petition for case transfer was filed with the IGP’s office, which was granted. Police from Abuja were dispatched to Aba to retrieve the case file.
“They claimed that after collecting the case file and the suspect, they were en route to Abuja when an incident occurred. The man attempted to flee, and he was shot and killed by some individuals.
Now, this man can no longer inform us of the currentwhereabouts of Celine and Afiba,” he stated in a post by Instablg9ja on X.
Flagbearer of theNational Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his pledge to legalize the operations of commercial motorbike riders, commonly known as “Okada,” if elected in the 2024 general elections.
The NDC’s initiative to formalize the “Okada” business was halted following their defeat in the 2020 general elections.
Addressing motorbike riders in Ashaiman on Friday, May 31, 2024, Mr. Mahama emphasized that the party has incorporated the legalization of Okada activities into their 2024 manifesto.
He criticized the current government for failing to honor its commitment to replace motorbikes with cars.
“We have in our manifesto that we will legalise “Okada”, but we lost the elections and so that promise was not fulfilled. Our opponents objected to it claiming okada activities if operationalised will cause accidents.
“They instead promised to take your motorbikes and replace them with cars. Is that not what you were promised? Have you received the cars? It turned 419, we all know that this government is only good at telling lies.
“I stand at Ashaiman here, I know in all the 16 regions you have all your associations. There wouldn’t have been space if all okada riders were invited to Ashaiman, there would have been congestion.
I would like to tell those of you present to inform all your unions in the regions that from Ashaiman, I want to declare that we have in our 2024 manifesto, that we will legalise okada business when we win the 2024 general elections.
“Know that the door of your freedom will be opened on January 7, 2025, when they swear me in as President.”
He also expressed concern over the country’s unemployment rate since he left office in 2016.
“The unemployment rate was 8.5% when I left office in 2016, now it’s 14.7% Under Akufo-Addo-Bawumia’s government.
If you were not engaged in okada business, the over 1.7 million something engaged in okada, would have been part of the unemployed, if your business was abolished, the unemployment rate would have jumped higher to 25%.
“In East Africa, they have legalised it and they are working nicely. We can also legalise it, and regulate it in safety and security. When we assume power, we will legalise it. We have riding instructors, so the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) will go to the regions to train you on how to ride safely,” he assured.
He encouraged motorbike riders to adhere to the regulations that would be enforced under the upcoming NDC administration.
“I’m pleading with you when we legalise it,you have to follow the rules, the passenger is also paramount. We will also assist those who don’t have a license to get a license.”
Former Chairman of the National Democratic Congress,Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, is set to begin his defence on June 20, 2024, in the case where he stands accused, along with another individual, of allegedly inciting violence in a leaked audio recording.
The decision came after the court, presided over by Justice Samuel Asiedu, a Supreme Court Justice acting as an additional High Court judge, granted Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo an extension.
Originally scheduled to begin his defence on May 30, Ofosu-Ampofo was granted more time.
During the court session, Ofosu-Ampofo’s counsel, Tony Lithur, informed the court that his client had suffered a leg injury due to a long flight, which affected his ability to meet and prepare for the hearing on May 30.
“I have spoken to him and his doctors say because it is just a swell, within a week or two he could walk with a stick to court. I crave my Lord’s indulgence to give us two weeks to open our defence,” Counsel submitted.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Yvonne Atokora Obuobisa, agreed to the request for more time since she had seen the doctor’s report indicating that Mr Ofosu-Ampofo would not be able to walk.
The case has been adjourned to June 20 this year.
Not guilty
Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, along with the former Deputy National Communication Officer of the NDC, is facing trial over a leaked audio recording in which Ofosu-Ampofo allegedly incited violence against the leadership of the Electoral Commission (EC) and the National Peace Council (NPC).
Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit assault against a public officer. Additionally, Ofosu-Ampofo has pleaded not guilty to two separate counts of assault against a public officer.
Prosecution’s facts
According to the prosecution’s account, following the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election incident on January 31, 2019, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo met with several NDC communicators on February 3, 2019.
The prosecution detailed that during this meeting, Ofosu Ampofo and Kwaku Boahen outlined a plan involving criminal activities, including acts of violence against the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, and the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante.
An audio recording of this meeting was leaked, prompting an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service into the comments made on the tape.
Furthermore, the prosecution noted that on February 27, 2019, Boahen confirmed in a radio interview his participation in the meeting and stated that the leaked audio accurately represented the discussions from February 3, 2019.
She stressed that such interruptions are typical and should not be conflated with a power outage (dumsor), particularly considering its brevity.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful compared the current power situation to the extended crisis experienced during former President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, which lasted for almost four years.
“Is Dumsor still a matter of concern today? We’ve been dealing with these power outages for years; they’re not a new phenomenon.
The real issue was the extended period of darkness we faced for four years with no end in sight. That was dumsor, but the current one is light off,” she said.
“At my press conference, there was a momentary power cut that lasted five minutes before we were able to resume, which is normal,” she stated in an interview on Asempa FM.
She warned that the power situation could deteriorate if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were elected, urging patience as the issues are addressed.
“We are aware of the current hardships, but that doesn’t mean we should switch to the opposition. It would be ill-advised to go from the frying pan into the fire,” she commented.
On May 30, 2024, there was a power outage at the Ministry of Information.
The interruption happened duringUrsula Owusu-Ekuful’smedia briefing on the ‘5G roll-out.’
Once the power was restored, the briefing continued as planned.
Former CEO of defunct UT Bank, Captain Prince Kofi Amoabeng (rtd), in a recent interview on Joy News, voiced concerns about potential election rigging by theNew Patriotic Party (NPP)in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Amoabeng warned that such actions could result in unrest within the country, citing the NPP’s track record and economic mismanagement as contributing factors to his apprehension.
“I am scared a bit, but I don’t waste my time fearing what is going to happen in the future. I believe in the present,” he stated.
He did not mince words in his assessment of the NPP’s performance, asserting that they had “messed up badly and disappointed Ghanaians.”
However, he also noted that the party possessed significant financial resources, which he implied could be used to influence the electoral process.
“But I am scared in the sense that I think even though it is not difficult to say that the NPP had messed up badly and disappointed Ghanaians, they have a lot of money.
“Stolen or whatever, they have a lot of it. And therefore, they will use it to try to stay in power.
“That is where my fear comes in because I think if there is an obvious win for the NDC and… they can use their money and influence to rig and do all sorts of things, things might explode…so we have to pray,” he added.
The upcoming 2024 general election is shaping up to be a head-to-head contest between the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, and the oppositionNational Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former president John Dramani Mahama.
With President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tenure set to end in 2025, the NPP is rallying behind a ‘breaking the 8’ campaign, aiming to secure a third consecutive term in office.
Meanwhile, the NDC, under the leadership of Mahama, who is seeking his fourth consecutive presidential bid, is striving to regain power after being voted out in 2016.

This decision comes after the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) obtained financial clearance for two out of the 13 items that were under negotiation for their Conditions of Service.
While this move by the FWSC prevented the strike from proceeding, the union’s leadership expressed dissatisfaction, describing it as “woefully inadequate” and “disappointing.”
During a press conference held late Friday afternoon to announce the strike, the union executives declared the temporary suspension of the strike declaration.
This decision was made in light of the developments at their negotiation meeting, which took place just before the press conference.
“We are highly disappointed that the FWSC has clearance for only two out of the 13 items under negotiation,” said Dr Cephas Kofi Akortor, General Secretary of MELPWU.
However, he emphasized that while the union remains committed to negotiating in good faith, they will not tolerate any attempts by the government to exploit their patience.
Negotiations over the Conditions of Service between the union and the FWSC have been ongoing for nearly two years, with significant delays from the government’s side. This has prompted threats of a nationwide industrial action by the union.
On May Day, the union issued a 20-day ultimatum to the government to address outstanding issues, including the provision of financial clearance by the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the resumption and conclusion of negotiations by the FWSC.
With the expiration of the ultimatum approaching, the Labour Commission intervened on May 16th, convening a meeting between the parties and directing the FWSC to resume and conclude negotiations to prevent any industrial action by the union.
Both parties were instructed to report back to the NLC on May 30th regarding the outcome of their discussions.
In compliance with this directive, the union postponed its strike plans, and on May 21st, the FWSC held a meeting with the union to attempt to restart negotiations.
However, the meeting ended inconclusively as the Ministry of Finance had not yet provided the necessary financial clearance.
As the union prepared to declare the strike on Friday, the FWSC convened an emergency negotiation meeting ahead of the press conference.
During this meeting, they informed the union about the availability of financial clearance for two out of the 13 demand items.
Dr. Akortor urged the union members to remain calm as the leadership assesses the government’s commitment to the new assurances provided by the FWSC and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations. This assessment will determine the next course of action.
A strike by the union would significantly impact healthcare delivery nationwide, as laboratories in public health facilities would cease operations.
The union’s membership includes Medical Laboratory Scientists, Technicians, and Assistants who provide laboratory diagnostic services in various clinical laboratories and blood banks under the Ministry of Health and associated agencies.
This includes the Ghana Health Service, National Blood Service, Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Teaching Hospitals, Health Training Institutions, Ahmadiyya Health Services Ghana, and the University of Ghana Medical Centre, among others.
Additionally, it comprises laboratory professionals who offer technical services in Pathology Laboratories and selected mortuary facilities across the country.
Attorney-General (AG) Godfred Yeboah Dame, through his legal counsel, has filed documents at the High Court opposing an application made by Richard Jakpa, an accused person in a high-profile financial crimes trial.
Earlier this week, Jakpa, who is involved in the Ambulance Case, requested the court to dismiss the charges against him or stay proceedings.
He accused the Attorney-General of unethical conduct, including attempts to coerce him into implicating Cassiel Ato Forson, the first accused in the trial.
In his May 31, 2024, filings, A-G Dame thoroughly addressed Jakpa’s allegations, including claims of meetings held without Jakpa’s legal representation, as required by law.
Paragraph 13 of the document, titled “Affidavit in Opposition to Motion for an Order Striking Out the Charges and Terminating the Proceedings or Alternatively Staying the Proceedings Against the Third Accused/Applicant,” discussed the involvement of a Supreme Court Justice in the meetings between Dame and Jakpa.
Paragraph 14 described the May 23, 2024, incident where Jakpa publicly accused the Attorney-General of witness tampering as part of a broader manipulation of facts and untruths underlying his application.
“That in specific response to paragraphs 13, 14, 15 and 16 of the affidavit in support, the Respondent says that the applicant again deliberately puts a spin on the facts surrounding the so called meeting with the Attorney-General.
The Applicant knows, as has already been indicated by his counsel to the trial judge in chambers, that, it was his cousin, Yonny Kulendi JSC, who invited the Attorney-General to the distinguished Justice of the Supreme Court’s residence, an invitation the Attorney-General honoured out of respect, only for the Applicant to show up,” paragraph 15 read.
The following paragraph clarified: “That the respondent says that the Attorney-General has never met the Applicant anywhere outside the courtroom, except in Kulendi JSC’s residence.”
The Attorney-General’s stance aligns with that of his spokesperson, Wilberforce Mensah, and a report by the pro-government Asaase Radio.
The report stated that the A-G had been “ambushed” by Jakpa while he (Dame)was at the home of Justice Yonny Kulendi.
The A-G wants the application by Jakpa dismissed by the court describing it as “a desperate smokescreen set up” to “abort his legitimate prosecution for the role he played in causing colossal financial loss to the State.”
Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), Isaac Bampoe Addo, has cautioned theSocial Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT)against selling its stake in four hotels to Rock City, a company owned by Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong.
After a meeting with the SSNIT Board on Thursday, May 30, Bampoe Addo expressed Organised Labour’s firm opposition to the deal, stating that they are “not convinced” about its integrity.
“There are so many negatives in the transaction that we have pointed out to them,” he noted.
“How can you go through a tender process and give specifications, and along the line, you change the specifications?” Mr. Bampoe Addo wondered.
He said, “Our Procurement Act does not allow this. We have told them to cancel the deal.”
“We will take control. This is our money. We will take control; SSNIT does not need to go ahead with the deal,” he insisted.
“They dare not go ahead with the deal, and we have asked for a totalrestructuring of SSNIT,” he warned.
Her family announced that Robinson died “peacefully” on Friday morning.
Robinson was a familiar presence at the White House throughout Barack Obama’s presidency from 2009 to 2017.
During those eight years, she devoted much of her time to caring for her granddaughters, Malia and Sasha, the daughters of Michelle and Barack Obama.
In a statement posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Mrs Obama called Robinson her “rock, always there for whatever I needed”.
“She was the same steady backstop for our entire family, and we are heartbroken to share she passed away today,” she wrote.

In a separate tweet, Mr Obama said that “there was and will be only one Marian Robinson”.
“In our sadness, we are lifted up by the extraordinary gift of her life,” he added. “And we will spend the rest of ours trying to live up to her example.”
No further details were given about the cause of death.
Born in 1937, Robinson grew up one of seven children in Chicago, the city where she spent much of her life before agreeing to come to Washington DC after Mr Obama’s electoral victory.
Early in her life, she studied to become a teacher before working as a secretary. She raised Michelle and her other child, Craig, together with her husband Frasier Robinson on Chicago’s South Side.
“At every step, as our families went down paths none of us could have predicted, she remained our refuge from the storm,” the Obama statement said.
“On Election Night in 2008, when the news broke that Barack would soon shoulder the weight of the world, she was there, holding his hand.”
An image taken on the night in 2008 when her son-in-law made history as the nation’s first African-American president showed Robinson sitting on a sofa with him, watching the results come in.

Barack Obama said that “there was and will be only one Marian Robinson” The statement added that Robinson had agreed to move to the White House after a “healthy nudge” from Barack and Michelle Obama, who, along with their daughters, “needed her”.
It was said that she insisted on doing her own laundry there.
In a later interview with CBS, the BBC’s US partner, Robinson said she felt compelled to move to Washington because she felt “like this was going to be a very hard life” for her daughter and son-in-law.
“And I was worried about their safety,” she added. “I was worried about my grandkids. That’s what got me to move to DC.”
The lifelong Chicago resident had never boarded a flight out of the US until she flew aboard Air Force One with the Obamas to France in 2009.
Robinson – whom Mr Obama once called “the least pretentious person” he knew – said that it was a “huge adjustment” to have her needs met by White House staff.
“Rather than hobnobbing with Oscar winners or Nobel laureates, she preferred spending her time upstairs with a TV tray, in the room outside her bedroom with big windows that looked out at the Washington Monument,” the family statement said.
“The only guest she made a point of asking to meet was the Pope,” it added.
Her privacy afforded her a freedom envied by the rest of her family. David Axelrod, a senior Obama advisor, told CNN on Friday “she would often slip out of the White House on her own and visit with friends”,
“She really wasn’t looking for attention,” he added.
On Mother’s Day – just weeks before Robinson’s death – Mrs Obama announced that an exhibit at the Obama Presidential Center Museum in Chicago would be named in her honour.
“In so many ways, she fostered in me a deep sense of confidence in who I was and who I could be, by teaching me to think for myself,” Mrs Obama said in a video announcement.
“I simply wouldn’t be who I am today without my mom.”
Former Ghana international Asamoah Gyanhas shared his views on coach Otto Addo’s decision to exclude Andre Ayew from the Black Stars for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers, emphasizing that the decision must be respected.
Coach Otto Addo left captain Andre Ayew out of Ghana’s squad for the matches against Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
Commenting on Ayew’s exclusion, Gyan acknowledged that Ayew has given his best for the Black Stars, but ultimately, the coach’s decision is final.
“For me, Andre has done so much for Ghana.
He started way back in 2007, and he has been consistent in the national team. He is the most capped player,” Gyan said on Joy FM.
“I think the coach has made his decision. Personally, I played with Andre, and he has done everything for Ghana, but this is the situation whereby we have to move on.
The coach has made his decision.”
Ghana is set to face Mali on June 6, 2024, followed by a match against the Central African Republic on June 10 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia has chosen his running mate for the 2024 general election.
The selected candidate’s name will be submitted to the NPP National Council for approval before Bawumia makes an official announcement.
MyNewsGh.com citing deep-throat sources said in the next few days, “the NPP flagbearer will be submitting the name of the lucky nominee to the National Council of the party for deliberation.”
The report added: “While the name of the nominee is kept top-secret, the names of those not on the list are known.
“Contrary to earlier reports of the shortlist including influential church leader Apostle Opoku Onyinah, checks show he was not under consideration.”
MyNewsgh.com reported that prominent figures such as Chief of Staff Frema Opare and Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who were rumored to be leading contenders for the position, have not been nominated as running mates for Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming 2024 general election.
After securing the NPP flagbearership, Bawumia requested additional time from the National Council to announce his running mate, emphasizing the importance of extensive consultations with key stakeholders.
With the exclusion of Onyinah, Frema, and Adutwum, analysts suggest that the path is now clear for Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, to be named as the running mate.
The Ashanti Region, a stronghold for the NPP, is considered crucial for winning the 2024 election.
Consequently, selecting a running mate from this region has gained significant traction since Bawumia’s election as flagbearer.
Attorney-General(AG) and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has requested the High Court in Accra to dismiss an application submitted by Mr. Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance procurement trial.
Jakpa’s application seeks to have the charges against him struck out and the proceedings terminated.
Jakpa is also requesting that the court stay proceedings or declare a mistrial.
However, the Attorney-General, in an opposing affidavit filed by a Principal State Attorney, argues that the applicant has not provided sufficient grounds to justify the application.
According to the Attorney-General, the application is not recognized by criminal procedure and practice in Ghana.
“That the instant application is a ruse and a desperate smokescreen set up by the applicant to abort his legitimate prosecution for the role he played in causing colossal financial loss to the State in the purchase of ordinary vans purporting to be ambulances.”
Godfred-Yeboah Dame argues that the application is anchored on untruths and a skillful manipulation of facts, and seeks to clothe Jakpa with immunity from prosecution.
The application, he says, is “incompetent and offensive to Ghanaian law.
“That I respectfully say that all persons are equal before the law and the Attorney-General’s constitutional responsibility to prosecute all crimes within the Republic cannot be injuncted in respect of some particular persons or any group of persons in Ghana.
“That the instant application is an extension of the public theatrics the accused persons have resorted to in a bid to discredit the prosecution of this case and cast doubt about the integrity of the proceedings in this Honourable Court, all of which the Attorney-General has so far observed utmost professionalism about, in spite of the persistent insults and abuse to his integrity by persons associated with the accused persons.”
Hepatitis B Foundation of Ghana has issued a 7-day ultimatum to Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, a renowned cellular pathologist and lifestyle wellness consultant, demanding a retraction of what they describe as false statements regarding the transmission of the disease.
The former Director-General of the Ghana Health Service suggested during a discussion at the Ghana Shippers Authority Hall in Accra that communal eating from one bowl, particularly of soupy foods like fufu, omo tuo, or tuo zaafi, could contribute to the spread of Hepatitis B.
He explained that individuals sharing a bowl may inadvertently exchange saliva, potentially transmitting the virus if one person is infected.
The Hepatitis B Foundation of Ghana has taken issue with these statements and is demanding a retraction within seven days. They argue that such assertions could misinform the public about the true modes of transmission for Hepatitis B.
“Once upon a time, we were all there, there was group participation, group eating, group everything… “And even the eating, it was later on that I [Prof Akosa] realised that, this is how we spread Hepatitis B. We didn’t know that. We are all eating fufu by the time you finish, you are drinking saliva.”
“I mean five, six of you, you are doing omo tuo or you are doing fufu, what do you think you are doing, you are going in like that and then you come in, by the time you are ending you are drinking saliva, it is the easiest way to spread hepatitis B, he said.
But in an interview with Starr News, an Executive member of the Hepatitis B Foundation of Ghana, Theobald Owusu Ansah stated that the claims of the retired Professor is false and has no scientific basis.
He asked Prof. Akosa to retract his comment or they will embark on a demonstration against him because his comment is discriminating and creating panic among people living with Hepatitis B.
“We all know that there is no scientific evidence that one can contract Hepatitis B by eating with a Hepatitis B patient. Hepatitis B is transmitted through blood or mother to child transmission.
The funny thing is that when I started advocacy he was then the Director-General of GHS and we were discussion policy and other matters with him, but I don’t know why he made this statement.
He should issue a statement for what he has said and also apologize to people living with Hepatitis B for lying.”
He expressed surprise over the silence of the Ghana Health Service on the matter.
“It is an unfortunate comment coming from a whole professor of medicine.
He has destroyed the work we have done for the past twelve years. I don’t know why the Programme Manager of the Ghana Health Service, theHepatitis B Programme Manager are all quiet about this issue.
Is it because he taught them in school or because he’s the former Director-General of GHS they don’t want to say anything,” Theobald Owusu Ansah asked?
Vincent Kompany, 38,revealed that his name had been mispronounced for years during one of his initial press conferences as the new Bayern Munich boss.
The former Burnley boss clarified that the mispronunciation originated from his first name ‘Vincent’.
Speaking on Bayern’s official club TikTok account, Kompany said: “So my name is actually pronounced ‘Vincent’.
But I played in Hamburg for two years and it never worked because it is hard to pronounce for Germans I guess. That’s why ‘Vincent’ or ‘Vinny’ is totally fine.”
Earlier this week, Bayern announced Kompany as their new head coach, signing him to a three-year deal.
Kompany departs Burnley after a two-year stint, during which he achieved promotion from the Championship in his first season at Turf Moor but faced relegation in the 2023-24 campaign.
Now at Bayern, Kompany is determined to lead the club back to its former dominance in Germany.
The Bavarian giants finished third in the Bundesliga this season, with Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen claiming the title and Stuttgart also finishing ahead of Kompany’s new team.
Vice President and flagbearer of theNew Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called for a broadened road toll system to fund the development of the nation’s road infrastructure.
Ghana abolished road tolls in 2022 in a bid to ease traffic congestion on major roads, and the Vice President, who was touring the Volta Region, said a broadened reintroduction of the tolling regime would provide the needed revenue for infrastructure development.
Dr Bawumia was responding to citizen concerns over the bad nature of roads at a meeting with the clergy in the Volta Region at the beginning of his tour.
He said the Government lacked the funding to undertake infrastructure development and said innovative means such as road tolling would provide a way out.
Dr Bawumia added that the Government’s approach to road funding should be reconsidered and that the private sector could augment revenue from road tolls in providing the needed relief.
“Let us go back to a system of broad-based road tolls. The tolling system has to come back, and I think it will come back.
“It is a fundamental mistake of the Government to place all road projects on the budget. The government doesn’t have enough money and the private sector has to be brought in.”
Dr. Bawumia underscored the potential for the private sector to contribute to infrastructure development through lease payment options, drawing parallels with their role in advancing the nation’s digital agenda.
Expanding on his presidential vision, he outlined plans to boost agriculture, ensure energy sufficiency, and reform the tax system.
Additionally, he emphasized the importance of formally recognizing the church’s contribution to national development and pledged support in this regard.
Rev. Seth Mawutor, Chairman of the Christian Council in the Volta Region, highlighted the need to preserve national peace during the election period, affirming the Council’s commitment to providing necessary assistance.
Accompanied by NPP leadership, including National Chairman Stephen Ntim and Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Dr. Bawumia engaged with various stakeholders, including the Muslim community and the Volta Region House of Chiefs.
He also planned to host a forum for youth at Ho Technical University before heading to the Oti Region on Friday.
On Friday, May 31, the World Bank greenlit a $250 million International Development Association (IDA) credit for a five-year Ghana Financial Stability Project.
This initiative aims to bolster Ghana’s Financial Sector Strengthening Strategy (FSSS) by bolstering financial stability through the recapitalization of viable Banks and Specialized Deposit-taking Institutions (SDIs) affected by Ghana’s Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).
Given the pivotal role of the financial system in the Ghanaian economy, providing essential services to households, firms, and the government while fostering economic growth, addressing the significant repercussions of the DDEP on financial institutions was imperative. Consequently, the Government established the Ghana Financial Sector Stability Fund (GFSF) to extend solvency support to banks, pension funds, insurance companies, fund managers, and collective investment schemes.
“This project will contribute to Ghana’s financial stability, by providing solvency support to banks and SDIs impacted by the DDEP through the GFSF,” said Robert R. Taliercio, World Bank Country Director for Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
“Through direct support to banks and SDI, the project will benefit Ghana’s financial sector and the economy by supporting the access of depositors and other financial consumers to savings, payments, and other core financial services provided by adequately capitalized banks and SDIs.“
The Ghana Financial Stability project is poised to offer immediate assistance to eligible undercapitalized but viable banks and SDIs, while also being available to other banks and SDIs in the future should they require support due to potential new losses. Additionally, it will serve as a safeguard against unforeseen losses.
“The World Bank Group’s support aims to help address short-term shocks to improve prospects for long-term sustainable development and long-term resilience against future shocks. The project promotes financial stability, a key requirement to protect people and preserve jobs,” said Carlos Leonardo Vicente, Senior Financial Specialist and Team Lead.
The project aligns with the World Bank’s broader efforts to support Ghana’s economic development and financial sector reform agenda. It complements existing initiatives such as the Development Programme Financing series and the IMF-Extended Credit Facility, which focus on enhancing the macroeconomic environment and promoting profitability and capital generation within financial institutions.
Furthermore, it synergizes with other World Bank-funded projects aimed at fostering economic recovery and job creation in Ghana, including the Ghana Development Financing Project.
This particular project facilitated the establishment of the Development Bank of Ghana and provides vital long-term financing to small and medium enterprises and small corporates.

Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah is advocating for the ambulance trial to proceed on a daily basis.
This request follows recent allegations against Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, promptingDr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the main defendant in the case, to call on the Chief Justice to televise the remaining hearings.
While Tuah-Yeboah’s office has no objections to the proposal for live broadcasting, he suggests that incorporating daily hearings might expedite the trial process.
“In fact, the AG had indicated at a different forum that when it comes to public interest matters or matters where the public has that kind of interest, it will be in the interest of justice that such proceedings are broadcast live on television and radio, so we don’t have any objection to the request but as I said, the Chief Justice has the final say.
“Not only the broadcast, we are also looking at day-to-day hearing so that we can get to the end of this matter as soon as possible.
The broadcast, if possible, may have to go with day-to-day hearing so that we can get to the end of this matter.”
The court ruled in Laporta’s favor, dismissing claims that he and his board made payments to Jose María Enriquez Negreira, former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), between 2008 and 2010.
However, former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell did not receive the same outcome.
His appeal was rejected by the court, leaving him implicated in the alleged payments alongside former presidents Maria Bartomeu, Oscar Grau, and Albert Soler.
Barcelona are yet to comment on the decision regarding Laporta but did release the following statement on the matter last week: “FCB is satisfied with today’s ruling by the Barcelona High Court insofar as it confirms the approach defended by the Club and rules out the hypothesis of the alleged crime of bribery.
We maintain our conviction that through the courts we will be able to definitively clarify the facts that are the subject of the complaint and prove the Club’s absolute innocence.”
Laporta can now focus on his presidential duties, striving to restore Barcelona’s competitiveness both domestically and in Europe.

Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC),Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has cautioned the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to brace themselves for the escalating controversy surrounding the trial of Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
Dr. Forson faces allegations of causing financial loss to the state in the procurement of 200 ambulances.
In an interview on Neat FM on May 31, 2024, Edudzi asserted that the NDC possesses evidence indicating that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration, led by Attorney General Godfred Dame, is exerting efforts to imprison Dr. Ato Forson unjustly.
He highlighted an audio recording of a phone conversation between Godfred Dame and the third defendant in Dr. Ato Forson’s trial, Richard Jakpa, where the AG is heard pressuring Jakpa to testify against the Minority Leader. Additionally, Edudzi referenced WhatsApp messages between the two individuals, released by the NDC, as further evidence of wrongdoing.
“If you can recall, when this issue started, my brother Nana B ignorantly stated that the recording was done at the home of a Supreme Court judge. On Tuesday, the recording that was released, was it in a house? Wasn’t it a phone call?
“So, quite clearly, our brothers and sisters in the NPP do not know what is coming. They have no idea,” he said in Twi.
The NDC legal director urged NPP members who are making noise about the trial to take a clue from the Attorney General who has gone quiet since the revelations started.
He made these remarks while reacting to a petition by Dr. Ato Forson to the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, for the remaining proceedings of the trial to be broadcast live.
About the allegations against Godfred Dame:
The National Democratic Congress (NDC), as promised, presented evidence implicating Attorney General and Minister of Justice Godfred Dame in the ongoing trial of Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
The NDC accused Godfred Dame of engaging in unethical and unprofessional behavior, alleging that businessman Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance procurement trial, claimed in court that the AG had meetings with him to discuss implicating Ato Forson.
Jakpa alleged that the Attorney General sought his cooperation to incriminate Dr. Ato Forson, a claim Dame vehemently denied.
During a press conference in Accra on May 28, 2024, the NDC played a 16-minute audio recording of a phone conversation between Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa, recorded on the day Jakpa was scheduled to testify in court.
In the recording, Dame is heard urging Jakpa to testify in a manner inconsistent with the explanation Jakpa provided to him. Prior to the AG’s request, Jakpa had asserted that Ato Forson had committed no wrongdoing with the LCs he signed, and he explained that the contract was for the purchase of 200 vehicles with 4 LCs.
“With the security from the government being the LC, the condition precedent… the contract for 200 vehicles in tranches of 50, 50, 50, 50. The contract is one contract for 200 ambulances which has been broken down within the contract.
“You establish an LC for every 50 tranche. So, you have four LCs for the 200 ambulances,” Jakpa explained.
Godfred Dame then stated that the third accused should accept his explanation because it wouldn’t cause him any harm.
“For that part, I disagree with you because if you look at the terms of the contract, it is quite clear, and it should not be difficult for you to accept because it doesn’t put you in any problem. You are not the Minister of Health, and you are not the Minister of Finance, so it doesn’t put you in any difficulty,” the Attorney General is heard saying.
However, Jakpa insisted that he could not grant Dame’s request because there were letters that confirmed the arrangement in the contract.
“No, the problem I have in accepting that for you is that there are letters that confirm [details of the transaction]. So I can’t go against what the letters say,” he said.
In the recording, Dame persistently urged Jakpa to adopt his stance, assuring him that it wouldn’t pose any issues. However, Jakpa remained resolute, refusing to testify contrary to the truth he knew.
Furthermore, theAttorney Generalcan be heard advising Jakpa to concoct a medical excuse to facilitate his travel.
Monaco’s Mohamed Camara has been handed a four-match suspension by the French football league (LFP) after the LGBTQ+ support logoon his shirt was obscured during a Ligue 1 match.
The incident occurred in Monaco’s final league game of the season on May 19, where Camara scored a penalty in their 4-0 victory over Nantes.
The logo on his shirt had been covered with white tape.
“After hearing the player Mohamed Camara, and noting his refusal during the meeting to carry out one or more actions to raise awareness of the fight against homophobia, the Commission decided to impose a four-match suspension,” the LFP said in a statement.
French sports minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra had called for “the strongest sanctions” against the 24-year-old.
After Oudéa-Castéra’s comments, the Malian Football Federation issued a statement in support of the player.
“It is important to remember that players are citizens like any others, whose fundamental rights must be protected in all circumstances,” the federation said.
On Thursday, Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro said the club supported the French league’sLGBTQ+ support campaign.
“It was a personal initiative from Mo Camara,” Scuro told French media. “We will have this conversation with Mo internally. Internally, we will discuss this situation.”
Camara’s management agency, Unique Sports Group, has yet to respond to requests for comment.
Last year, several Ligue 1 players declined to participate in a gesture supporting LGBTQ+ inclusion, which involved wearing shirts with rainbow-colored numbers on the back.

Antony opened up about his struggles during a challenging season atManchester United, admitting to silently enduring difficulties.
The Brazilian, who made a high-profile £85 million move from Ajax nearly two years ago, was anticipated to inject creativity and flair into United’s attack under former manager Erik ten Hag.
While he made a promising start with a debut goal against Arsenal, Antony’s form soon faltered.
Despite sporadic moments of brilliance, he has failed to consistently deliver in the Premier League, grappling with the physical demands and pace of English football.
His decline prompted ten Hag to deploy him in an unfamiliar defensive role, filling in for injured defenders like Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
However, Antony’s struggles persisted, leading to him losing his place in the starting lineup to Amad Diallo towards the end of the season, signaling a decline in his influence within the squad.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Antony wrote: “2023/24 was a very difficult season, for many reasons. But I suffered quietly! I took this period to reflect and seek self-knowledge. Today, at the end of another season, I can say that after everything I’ve been through, I feel much stronger and ready for the challenges.
Football gave me everything I have, thanks to it, I was able to help my family, change my life and open up a range of opportunities.
After time, the experience will give me the tools to achieve my biggest goals, which are success and to build my story in a world as challenging as the one we live in! I thank God, my family, our fans, my work colleagues and the entire Manchester United staff!! 🙏🏼@manchesterunited”.
Antony’s performance in the 2023-24 season has been disappointing, with statistics reflecting his struggle to meet expectations.
In the Premier League, he managed only one goal and one assist in 29 matches, while in the FA Cup, he scored twice in four appearances.
These numbers underscore his difficulties in making a significant impact on the field. As he looks ahead to the future, both Antony and Manchester United will hope for a resurgence in form and confidence, aiming for a more successful season ahead.
Barcelona’s financial woes persist as they encounter hurdles in registering Hansi Flick and his coaching staff with La Liga.
Despite Flick’s recent appointment as the club’s new manager, paperwork delays highlight the severity of Barcelona’s financial struggles.
The situation echoes past instances where the club faced challenges in registering players due to financial constraints.
To address the crisis, Barcelona previously sold a portion of ‘Barca Studios’ to investors, but the anticipated payments from these deals are yet to materialize fully.
Moreover, the club must navigate wage bill reductions to comply with La Liga regulations, further complicating their financial predicament.
Xavi’s departure and Flick’s arrival mark a transition fraught with challenges, as Barcelona grapples with balancing fiscal responsibility andon-field competitiveness.
