I married 2 wives to imitate Solomon in the Bible – Ghanaian man on social media

In a Facebook post dated December 20, 2023, Michael Houston challenges critics of his recent dual wedding, questioning whether they prefer he choose one girlfriend over the other.

He draws parallels to King Solomon, who, according to the Bible, had 700 wives and 300 concubines.

“For the sake of my followers out there i will do a little explanation, I got married to these two beautiful women Adepa Fel Houston and Deejah Houston, and the country went berserk because people couldn’t understand how i made that happen, with many ridiculing the whole show,” he wrote.

“Well what y’all didn’t know was, i had two different engagements seperately at each respective family house, all customary rights for marriage was done to the very last note. We had mini ceremonies with religious leaders blessing the unions.

“Then I decided to have a grand one which i made public to announce to the world that my home is now blessed with two queens.

“Little did I know I will be labeled as a man who didn’t respect women. How do I spend a fortune to disrespect a woman by marrying them?? So society wanted us to keep dating and when pregancy comes, we abort to avoid being stigmatized as born 1’s with no marriage?? Or society wanted me to choose one and break the other ones heart when these two beautiful women have supported me throughout.

“There was this one time, my business hit rock bottom with the biggest recession I had ever seen, I almost sold some of my properties but these two came together, gathered their savings and borrowed some from other people to help me push my business back to the top. No way in hell will I be able to live with my self if I had to choose one.

“At the end of the day we made a choice to live as a family under the blessings of our family and the instructions of God.

“Yeah you can label it as polygamy and what not, but where in the bible did God frown upon it? There are religions that don’t marry or have sexual activity and they don’t ridicule those that get married right?

“Abraham, the man God said HE will curse if you curse him and bless if you bless him, married his half sister right?? The one man who God gave wisdom and considered the wisest man ever lived, married 700 wives and had 300 concubines right. Moses who brought us the 10 commandments had two wives right?

“Jesus never even married right so technically as Christian and followers of christ we should have been obligated not to get married right. I can go on and on with these theories but i know it won’t convince certain people who are hell-bent on disagreeing to it to protect either their beliefs or a certain way of life they deem normal.

“I lost many friends due to this marriage and made even more friends after, I am way more than capable of maintaining and making my wives happy and I seek no validation from anyone. Its my choice and their choice. if you are capable and want to make such a choice too, then shoot at it. If not then do what your strength can. I am done explaining, God bless you all and a merry Christmas.

Bullgod criticizes silence of Samini, Reggie Rockstone amid Black Sherif backlash

Expressing concern, entertainment analyst and artiste manager Bullgod deplores the treatment of Black Sherif amid the #PlayGhana initiative, pointing out that veterans like Samini and Reggie Rockstone have gone silent, leaving Black Sherif vulnerable to intense backlashes, especially from foreign countries where he holds significant popularity.

Bullgod emphasizes that Black Sherif, currently in his prime, risks losing much if subjected to cancelation in these foreign markets.

This discussion arose during the ‘Daybreak Hitz’ show when music executive Hammer suggested that Black Sherif should be protected by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

“As Blacko is facing the backlash, I expected Mark and co to issue a statement,” Hammer stated.

Bullgod shot back at Samini and Reggie Rockstone, citing statements made by Hammer of The Last Two Music Group as his inspiration.

“Mark alone shouldn’t do this. Reggie for protect am, Samini for protect am. Those who stood there with the small boy should’ve done something to protect him by now. We know that the only person who suffers is Blacko, nobody else suffers on that stage. They have nothing to prove again. Blacko is in his prime so he has a lot to prove. Samini is on Twitter going back and forth with Shatta Wale for what? He should be using that energy to protect Blacko,” Bullgod added.

The clever music producer Hammer responded that Black Sherif’s only transgression was that he had listened to his two “elders.”

“The only crime he committed was listening to his elders and showing up. If he had not showed up, his elders would’ve label him a disrespectful boy,” he stated.

‘Broke’ COCOBOD wants to spend over GHC300m on torchlights – Asunafo South MP fumes

The National Democratic Congress’ Asunafo South MP, Eric Opoku has strongly criticized the allocation of GH¢302 million in the 2024 budget for the purchase of solar torchlights by Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

The torchlights are to be distributed free of charge to cocoa farmers across the country.

However, Mr. Opoku is emphasizing that the allocated funds are inappropriate, considering that COCOBOD is currently facing financial constraints and is unable to pay contractors.

“After increasing your own expenditure, your allowances, by 589%. This is how you have expended cocoa farmers money. Mr Speaker, even this year, what is surprising now that we are in crises, everybody is complaining about the state of affairs at COCOBOD. We know COCOBOD is struggling and stumbling. COCOBOD is casting for breath. Mr Speaker, you have provided in your budget that you are going to use 302, 910.00 to purchase torchlights, solar torchlights. Is that your priority at this time . Solar torchlight in your own budget. So you didn’t read the budget, is here. Your own budget you are committing 302.910.00, 3 trillion old cedis to buy solar torchlights at the time that you cannot even pay contractors.” he expressed.

Ahead of the approval of a $803 million loan between COCOBOD and several banks, Mr. Opoku expressed concerns to the Ghanaian parliament on Friday, November 17, 2023, during a debate, stating that COCOBOD was experiencing “reckless mismanagement” in spite of being in a “crisis” and “struggling to survive.”

He claimed that since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took office in 2017, the Board’s chances have been deteriorating.

“We [Mahama government] handed over COCOBOD to them [Akufo-Addo government] in 2017. In 2017, they incurred a loss of GH¢395 million. In 2018, the loss came down to GH¢78.2 million. In 2019, it increased to GH¢320 million. In 2020, it increased to GH¢428 million. In 2021, it is GH¢2.4 billion. In 2022, it jumped to GH¢2.3 billion, yet the Minister [of Food and Agriculture] is saying that COCOBOD is back on track, where he is projecting a loss of GH¢2.6 billion this year, yet you say that this company is on track?”.

A Plus defends OSP’s armored vehicle request after 5 attempts to allegedly kill him

Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A Plus, has defended the Special Prosecutor’s plea for armored vehicles, as outlined in a 2021 application for vehicle clearance.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), led by Mr. Kissi Adjabeng, faced public criticism after the document, requesting four armored-plated vehicles and 12 soft or light-body vehicles, amounting to GH¢29,952,000, surfaced online.

Despite the backlash, A Plus asserted that armored vehicles are crucial for the safety of the Special Prosecutor, who has faced multiple assassination attempts.

“You want to assassinate someone. You have made five attempts on his life this year alone, but you are angry he has requested bulletproof cars which is a requirement under the law that set up his office.

“Did the special prosecutor set up the OSP? Should I release the photos of all the attempts or you’ll shut up over there and allow the man to do his job? Like, he should avail himself for k!ln abi? I’m surprised he didn’t even request for bulletproof bulldozers. You have children but every day you want to k!l somebody. If you like, ask police to invite me for questioning. Like the things I’ll say ɛh! I’m calling your bluff!” he wrote in a long Facebook post.

He also lamented the current NPP-led administration’s ongoing practice of frustrating anti-corruption leaders.

“Me I no dey see any of you ooo, You people did same to Charlotte Osei, you did same to Domelovo, you did same to Martin Amidu, you did same to Dr Anyah, just to mention a few, and Abdul Malik Kwaku Barko ooo sɛ Kwaku One too,” he added.

The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) and the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization organized the convoy, which crossed through the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and Gaza.

With half of Gaza’s population reportedly facing starvation, WFP calls for an immediate ceasefire and the opening of all border crossings.

  • Donald Trump disqualified from 2024 ballot in Colorado

Donald Trump disqualified from 2024 ballot in Colorado

Colorado’s Supreme Court has declared that Donald Trump is ineligible to run for president in the state in 2024, citing a constitutional insurrection clause.

The 4-3 decision stated that Trump engaged in an insurrection during the US Capitol riot nearly three years ago. While this ruling applies specifically to Colorado’s primary election on March 5, it could impact the general election in the state next November.

Trump’s campaign plans to appeal to the US Supreme Court, deeming the decision “completely flawed.” This marks the first use of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to disqualify a presidential candidate.

The ruling is only applicable within Colorado, contrasting with failed attempts in New Hampshire, Minnesota, and Michigan.

The justices wrote in their ruling: “We do not reach these conclusions lightly. We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us.

“We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law, without fear or favor, and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach.”

The recent ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court marks a reversal of a prior decision by a Colorado judge. Initially, the judge ruled that the 14th Amendment’s insurrection ban did not apply to presidents, as the section did not explicitly mention them.

However, the same judge concluded that Donald Trump participated in an insurrection during the US Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. The new decision by the Colorado Supreme Court, effective from January 4, 2024, on the eve of the state’s presidential primary ballot deadline, deems Trump ineligible to run for president in Colorado.

Steven Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, called the ruling “completely flawed” and lambasted the justices, who were all appointed by Democratic governors.

“Democrat Party leaders are in a state of paranoia over the growing, dominant lead President Trump has amassed in the polls,” Mr Cheung said in a statement.

“They have lost faith in the failed Biden presidency and are now doing everything they can to stop the American voters from throwing them out of office next November.”

Mr Cheung added that Mr Trump’s legal team would “swiftly file an appeal” to the US Supreme Court, where conservatives hold a 6 to 3 majority.

    • The legal bid to take Trump off ballot, explained

Representatives for Mr Biden’s re-election bid declined to comment on the Colorado ruling. But a senior Democrat affiliated with the campaign told CBS News, the BBC’s US partner, that the decision would help Democrats by supporting their argument that the US Capitol riot was an attempted insurrection.

The source said it would also aid Democrats in showcasing “the stark differences” between Mr Trump and Mr Biden.

Republican lawmakers condemned the decision, including House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson, who called it “a thinly veiled partisan attack”.

“Regardless of political affiliation, every citizen registered to vote should not be denied the right to support our former president and the individual who is the leader in every poll of the Republican primary,” he said.

On the campaign trail Mr Trump’s Republican primary rivals also assailed the ruling, with Vivek Ramaswamy pledging to withdraw his name from the ballot if Mr Trump’s candidacy is not reinstated.

Mr Trump, speaking at a campaign event in Iowa on Tuesday night, did not address the ruling. But a fundraising email sent by his campaign to supporters said “this is how dictatorships are born”.

The Colorado Republican Party also responded, saying it would withdraw from the state’s primary process if the ruling was allowed to stand.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (Crew), the group that brought the case, welcomed the ruling.

“It is not only historic and justified, but is necessary to protect the future of democracy in our country,” the group’s president, Noah Bookbinder, said in a statement.

The 14th Amendment was ratified after the American Civil War. Section 3 was intended to block secessionists from returning to previous government roles once southern states re-joined the Union.

It was used against Confederate president Jefferson Davis and his vice-president Alexander Stephens, both of whom had served in Congress. It has seldom been invoked since.

Mr Trump lost the state of Colorado by a wide margin in the last presidential election. But if courts in more competitive states followed suit on Tuesday’s ruling, Mr Trump’s White House bid could face serious problems.

During a one-week trial in Colorado last month, the former president’s lawyers argued he should not be disqualified because he did not bear responsibility for the US Capitol riot.

But in its ruling, the Colorado Supreme Court majority disagreed.

They said Mr Trump’s messages before the riot were a “call to his supporters to fight and… his supporters responded to that call”.

Carlos Samour, one of three justices who dissented, argued the government could not “deprive someone of the right to hold public office without due process of law”.

“Even if we are convinced that a candidate committed horrible acts in the past – dare I say, engaged in insurrection – there must be procedural due process before we can declare that individual disqualified from holding public office,” he wrote.

Mr Trump is facing four criminal cases, including one federal and one state case in Georgia related to his alleged election subversion efforts.

Miss France 2023 Eve Gilles’ pixie cut sparks diversity debate online

In a historic moment, 20-year-old Eve Gilles wins the Miss France crown with a pixie cut, marking a departure from the traditional long-haired beauty pageant standards.

The move towards diversity sparks online criticism as some view it as pandering to “woke culture.” Gilles sees her victory as a triumph for diversity, emphasizing that every woman is unique.

The Miss Universe organization expresses support for the winner, promoting the idea that contestants should stay true to themselves.

Despite the online backlash, the chief executive of Banijay France defends the pageant as a symbol of success and a social elevator for contestants with modernized criteria allowing participants of various ages, marital status, and gender identities.

20-year-old Eve Gilles, who won the competition over the weekend sporting a pixie cut, hailed the achievement as a “victory for diversity”.

“We’re used to seeing beautiful Misses with long hair, but I chose an androgynous look with short hair,” she said. “No one should dictate who you are… every woman is different, we’re all unique.”

There were plenty of people celebrating the choice of winner online, pointing out the Ms Gilles follows in a rich tradition of short-haired French fashion, from Mistinguett to Coco Chanel.

The Miss Universe organization showcased their support for Eve, while also shining a light on how they want contestants to stay true to themselves.

“There is no one way to be Miss Universe or Miss France, and we embrace every look that comes across our stage,” a spokesperson for Miss Universe said in a statement to People. “We represent the times, and being your confident unique self is the one thing we see being reflected in all of our winners.”

Alexia Laroche-Joubert, chief executive of Banijay France which owns the Miss France brand, defended the pageant as a symbol of “success” and a “social elevator” for contestants who have later become “businesswomen, doctors or film directors.”

The contest’s criteria have been “modernized,” she said, in that there is no longer an age limit for participants, who can now also be married or transgender.

King promise reveals challenges of collaboration in the music industry

In the realm of music, collaborative efforts are often seen as a means to promote mutual support among artists.

However, according to King Promise, not all musicians embrace this concept, perceiving collaboration as a form of competition.

The “Terminator” hitmaker shared an incident during an interview with content creator Kwadwo Sheldon, where a Ghanaian artist hosting a show in London refused to let him perform.

Despite King Promise’s intention to show support and join the stage, he was denied the opportunity by the fellow artist, highlighting the challenges some musicians face in fostering collaboration within the industry.

“It’s just the mentality of Ghanaians. Like I always say, it is not us against each other; it is us against the world. You’ll be shocked if I tell you your own brother, I’m not going to mention any names but I was in London sometime and there was a concert by a Ghanaian artiste. I was there with Sarkodie and he said I could pull up to the show which I agreed to. They didn’t let me do the thing. I was like; Are we fighting ourselves? I actually came to show you guys love. “King Promise, in the interview, highlighted instances where he shared the stage with Nigerian artists such as Wizkid and Omah Lay at events organized by these fellow musicians.

“First, you don’t hurt what you love. Secondly, the easiest way to find yourself in body bags is through domestic violence with partners. Thirdly, if kids are involved, it will destroy them. It is a serious abuse.

“Only a small fraction of such children will grow not to believe violence, torture, etc, are means of solving issues. Fourth, even if you are not caught, your hands will be stained with blood, and you are a murderer if you fight/beat to death.”

Speaking further, he said that anytime a partner shows signs of provocation or violence, it is best to call the police right away in order to prevent outright violence.

The actor, who also serves as the convener of the non-governmental organization Break The Silence Foundation, which promotes the defense of fundamental human rights, offered advice on managing anger and emphasized that following the law is preferable to going to jail.

“I would rather prefer you involve the Police immediately if you think your wife or girlfriend exhibits traces of violence or provoking you to turn violent. Self-control is key. Anger is controllable. Just act lawfully before you become a criminal. Don’t give that partner the chance to provoke you so that you turn into a beast or woman beater.

“If you indulge in violence and think involving the police is extreme, the moment you start trying to defend yourself and things go south, then you will realise the police will involve you, prison will embrace you and the very people you are considering will turn their back on you.

“Violence will never produce love. Most lovers who make up after violence are hoodwinked, motivated, or controlled by something else but not love. Love, don’t stay where it is tolerated. Love, don’t grow where it hurts”, he said.

Rather than focusing on teaching their children the proper discipline, he held certain parents accountable for their excessive use of social media.

“Marriage is not for everybody. Only a few have gone through proper home training lately. Most parents are on social media than in the lives of their children and teenagers. These wards, too, are on several toxic and criminal blogs every minute they are awake.

“These blogs raise and mentor these kids. The percentage you invest in raising your child will be commensurate to how you benefit from the same child. Say no to domestic violence,” he submitted.

‘The woman was beating my mother’ – Emeke Ike’s brother reveals

Victor Ike, the brother of veteran Nigerian actor Emeka Ike, has affirmed his brother’s account of his ex-wife’s violent behavior, shedding light on additional family troubles.

Emeka Ike recently disclosed in an interview that his former spouse had falsely portrayed him as an abusive partner, leading to the loss of his possessions and severed contact with his children.

Confirming the narrative, Victor Ike expressed frustration with the online spread of misinformation by individuals like Daniel Regha.

He asserted that Emeka’s revelations were accurate, emphasizing that the ex-wife had collaborated with her mother to physically assault their own mother.

Victor Ike claimed that the relationship between Emeka Ike and the rest of the family was strained due to her actions, despite his consistent support for her.

“@DanielRegha & Co, Please don’t be judgmental when you don’t know their stories.
Emeka Ike is my blood brother, and everything he said @channelstv was 100% true. He didn’t even mention how she and her mother constantly beat my mum whenever she visits. He needs to see his kids

He has always loved and stood for her even when she lies against his own family. Most of us in the family are not in good communication with him just because of her, so it is false to claim that the man who disowned his family for her was a wife beater.Don’t hurt him with his kids”

Emeka Ike expresses sympathy for unmarried popular men after his failed marriage

In a recent interview on Channels TV, Emeka Ike, a well-known Nigerian actor, shared his sympathy for unmarried men, revealing his own personal challenges.

Ike disclosed how his ex-wife’s accusations of domestic abuse led to the loss of several properties, including his Senior High School, house, lands, and custody of his children.

Expressing concern, Ike stated that he feels sorry for single men in this era, attributing it to what he perceives as manipulative and opportunistic behavior by women who seek wealthy and popular partners for personal gain.

“I feel sorry for the young men who are not married because the narrative out there is that it is all about the money. When they come, they don’t like you for nothing. You are just a blackmail issue and you must be popular, and rich, you must be a stronger and successful man to be a husband-beater. No carpenter is a husband-beater in the social space. You have to be a businessman”, he said.

He continued by saying that most women are anxious to get married in order to fulfill a goal, so young men should exercise caution and look for the right mate.

“Some ladies are too desperate for marriage lately so the young men need to know that there are plenty of women out there who are not the marriage type and they are the ones that get you and I first. The good ones do not show the things and signs that you want to be a part of a girl but these ladies show you everything you want to see and when you get into it, there is a lock”, he told the host.

Ex-Rwandan doctor sentenced to 24 years for involvement in 1994 genocide

A French court has sentenced Sosthene Munyemana, a 68-year-old former Rwandan gynaecologist, to 24 years in prison for his role in the 1994 genocide.

Munyemana was convicted on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity, and participating in a conspiracy to prepare these crimes.

The former doctor was accused of aiding the interim government by drafting a letter that oversaw the killings of Tutsis and participating in meetings organizing the roundups of Tutsi civilians in Butare, where he lived at the time.

Munyemana, who moved to France after the genocide, denied any wrongdoing, and his lawyers plan to appeal the verdict.

Meanwhile, in Brussels, a court on Tuesday found Séraphin Twahirwa and Pierre Basabosé guilty of genocide and war crimes committed in Rwanda, sentencing scheduled for Wednesday.

  • Ghanaians embrace humor on everyday life struggles, including president – OB Amponsah

Ghanaians embrace humor on everyday life struggles, including president – OB Amponsah

OB Amponsah remarked that Ghanaians tend to be reserved when it comes to laughing at political jokes, especially if it targets a particular party.

On the contrary, he noted that Ghanaians generally enjoy humor centered around the average Ghanaian life, such as jokes about trotro and relatable experiences like thrift shopping at places like Kantamanto and Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

“Every day struggles, because they can really relate with it,” he stressed.

Speaking with Prince Benjamin (PB) of Class News exclusively, the TV host was seen this past weekend on the set of the 3 Faces of Jeffery Nortey program.

He observed that jokes about alleged luxuries tend to divide rather than excite the audience.

“But when you talk about driving a car, only a section of the audience can relate.

“The everyday struggles of the average Ghanaian [is what they like],” he emphasised.

He gave the example of a recent performance he did in front of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“Yesterday, I was performing to Nana Addo and I was talking about how I drive a small car, and people mistake it for Uber… and he was laughing. You know, because, he understood the concept,” OB narrated.

For the optometrist cum comic star, this proves, “when you talk about the average stuff, even the elites understand it because they’ve been there before”.

On Constitution Day, January 7, 2024, OB Amponsah showcases his fifth comic special dubbed: ‘Surviving Akuffo’ at Jamestown Coffee Roasters, Osu, Accra.

“The plan is to do an intimate session with my fans,” he said, revealing plans to tape and stream the exclusive content online for a larger audience at a later date.

Regarding the special’s title, OB playfully mentioned that the intentional inclusion of the two ‘f’s might imply that Dampare should take it. Dr. George Akuffo Dampare currently serves as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Ghana.

  • The key to wealth lies in service – Worlasi reveals

The key to wealth lies in service – Worlasi reveals

Generating wealth, according to Musician Worlasi, requires a commitment to service.

The rapper, singer-songwriter, and film composer emphasized that this valuable insight was derived from the teachings of American executive producer and record producer Frederick Jay Rubin, also known as Rick Rubin.

“I’ve been following Rick Rubin for a long time, and he says things that make me understand how these things work.

“To be a businessman – because I was [just] entering into the business aspect [of the creative arts] – I understood that you have to serve people to make money. You have to be able to serve people. One I understood that, I was creating from a perspective of [service].”

Worlasi claims that when he released his last tape, the.Rap.Y., he realized how true this was.

He mentioned that the seven-track EP was primarily intended to support those suffering from mental health issues and artists experiencing writer’s block, but that in spite of all the odds, the project raised a significant amount of money.

The.Rap.Y was created “because everywhere I went, everybody was talking about mental health. Europe, and everywhere I went. Grown men, women, kids, young people, suicides, all these things.

“And I was like: ‘Oh, this is a problem, let me touch on it’.

“There was a time in my life also where I was also down, a lot, like very, very down and I was like: ‘I’m tired, I’m done, I can’t be doing this anymore, going up and down, I’m tired’.”

“And for like a week,” he revealed, he decided “to break this thing down” to “find out why I’m going through this, how I always get out of it, because it happens most often, you manage to walk out of that darkness by yourself”.

The Mawena hitmaker said while the creation of the project was certainly therapeutic, “honestly, we did not believe in this project” and its commerical viability “because I [was] rapping too much” as against singing.

The consolation, he stressed, was “using these songs to tell people how I come out of my creative blockages, so that it can also help other people”.

Unexpectedly, but very much welcome, Worlasi Langani said: “All of a sudden, we started getting calls from left, right, [centre]”.

He said it was surreal to see that the idea of “serving people actually helped”.

The experience, he added, also “reminded” him to “create what I want because it helps me and helps others”.

Worlasi engaged in a conversation with Amelley Djosu during her visit to his home for Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz program in Accra.

While “The.Rap.Y” was launched in April 2023, Worlasi’s most recent release came in November 2023, featuring a six-track EP titled “Angry African.” In this collection, the artist passionately voices his protest against corruption in politics and governance.

On Saturday, December 23, Worlasi is set to deliver another memorable performance alongside his current preferred collaborators, the band Senku Live. The event will take place at the Alliance Francaise amphitheatre in Airport City, Accra, offering fans an epic experience.

Sarkodie announces collaboration with Amakye Dede in new song ‘Been A Fool for You’

Sarkodie unveiled his collaboration with Amakye Dede, releasing the song on December 1, 2023. The live performance premiered at Sarkodie’s Rapperholic Exhibition in Osu.

In a post on X on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, the two-time BET winner lauded Amakye Dede as a trans-generational icon, expressing admiration for the “amazing music” he had enjoyed since his early days as a toddler.

Sarkodie noted it was “a great honour” to be on what, he recognised, was Amakye Dede’s first ever collaboration in a career which is more than three decades old.

“He was a global icon even before I was brought [in]to this world and he’s still an icon…

“[From] a toddler, listening to his amazing music [to] now being on the same song with him… [It] is a great honour [thankful emojis]

“He’s collaborated with no one and I happen to be the first!!

    “Thank you Daddy [Amakye Dede]…

“We performed our new song ‘For for You’ at the #RapperholicExhibition,” Sarkodie, touted as the Landlord, wrote.

A two-minute video of Amakye Dede touring his exhibition was attached by him. The video’s last segment showed a wine and dine event that featured a live performance of their band collaboration.

In 2021, Daniel Amakye Dede made hints about working with Sarkodie during an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show in Accra.

“It’s a wonderful piece of music that will be released soon,” commented the Akwadawesoa hitmaker. He reminisced about sharing the stage with Sarkodie several times, both locally and internationally.

Dede highlighted that he chose to collaborate with Sarkodie due to his talent and character.

“He’s very good and very respectful so I chose to collaborate with him,” he said.

“Sarkodie constantly keeping it up, working like a slave” – Reggie Rockstone

Hiplife pioneer, Reggie Rockstone, has praised Sarkodie’s approach to his work.

On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, he had an interview with Yao Mawutor Fianu on Class 91.3 FM’s drive-time show.

He first bemoaned “the power of music Ghanaians are sleeping on”.

He noted how “hard Ghana has been, and what we’re going through.” In spite of it all, he recognised, “it is music that’s kept smiles on our faces”.

The music revolutionist worried that “people forget the soundtrack of the country,” not giving music and its makers their due place and honour.

Rockstone noted how much fun the nation had enjoyed Patapaa’s viral One Corner and how hard Sarkodie had worked over the years to release music and put on excellent yearly shows.

Sarkodie constantly keeping it up… Rapperholic… This… He’s doing that.

“This boy! How old is he? He’s working like a slave,” Rockstone exclaimed in admiration.

He said Sarkodie, together with his mates, are “holding the flag of Ghana” up high.

Affectionately called the Grandpapa, Reggie Rockstone saluted “Medikal, Stonebwoy,” and others, asking that “we push them” upwards and abroad.

Expose me, I dare you! – Sam George to alleged side chicks

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Dzata George, has taken on the challenge of proving his unwavering loyalty and complete fidelity to his wife.

During an interview with Bola Ray, George invited any lady to provide evidence of being his extramarital partner.

Sam George emphasized that he has never been involved in any extramarital affairs, asserting that his wife fulfills all his needs.

According to the Ningo Prampram MP, his wife embodies the complete package, serving both as a wife and a “side chick,” making him uninterested in seeking companionship elsewhere.

“My life is work, house and church. If you know any girl anywhere, I am dating, just call her to the show, I am waiting. I am throwing a challenge out there. Anybody should bring evidence. You won’t ever see me sitting at a spot alone or with some random girl. If you see me anywhere, especially at +233, my wife is always sitting by me,” he told Bola Ray on the StarChat show.

Sam George stated that he fulfills his roles as husband, boyfriend, and “sugar daddy” to his wife as part of his strategies to liven up his house.

“I tell my wife say she be my side chick and my wife. Wey me I be in sugar daddy, boyfriend, husband all put together. The thing wey boys go fit do, I dey do. Whatever, husbands do in the house, I do it. And whatever, sugar daddies do, I do them as well,” he said in Pijin mixed with English.

It is well known that Sam George frequently shows off his wife on social media, particularly when they are spotted together at public events.

Sometime in August 2022, the couple, who have been married for the previous 11 years, renewed their vows.

Jeffrey Nortey expresses gratitude for massive attendance to ‘3FacesOfJeffreyNortey’ show

Ghanaian actor, comedian, and skit maker Jeffrey Nortey expresses gratitude for the overwhelming turnout at his debut show, the 3FacesOfJeffreyNortey comedy event.

Held at Snap Cinema in Accra on December 16, 2023, Nortey flawlessly portrayed three distinct characters: a bashful individual sharing embarrassing situations with his confidant, a conscience-pricking pastor narrating his pitfalls, and a moderate gangster, incorporating rap poetry or spoken word.

The audience, including entertainment figures like Yvonne Nelson, Beverly Afaglo, and Kalybos, enthusiastically praised Nortey’s wordplay with shouts of “Bars!” Fellow comedians Lekzy de Comic, General Ntatia, and DKB supported him on stage.

Despite a late start, the event ended just before midnight, leaving the visibly satisfied audience in no rush to depart.

Jeffrey Nortey, surrounded by popular personalities, engaged with the media and fans, discussing the successful night with Class News’ Prince Benjamin (PB).

“This is my maiden show, and I’m super grateful – the turnout – I mean, [I saw] people standing… I wasn’t really expecting this but hey, people showed love, they had fun – I mean, we closed [around] 11 something [PM] and people were still waiting, the energy was still there. And I’m thankful to all those who supported,” he remarked.

    Parents

“For my parents, I do my possible best to make them proud on every stage I mount, and I’m super grateful that they came here to witness greatness,” Nortey said.

He noted his parents never fought his dream of acting and doing comedy “thinking that when I grow up, I’d change my mind but hey, we’re here”.

    Growth

The growing popularity of comedy in Ghana, according to Jeffrey Nortey, is because of “consistency”.

“We kept doing it, they kept doing shows, they kept supporting each other. Consistency!

“Personally, as a skit maker, I kept dropping videos, and with consistency, the people will love you, they’ll accept you, brands will come on board, we’ll all grow,” he said.

    Future

“The future is bright you’d need dark shades,” he said, laughing almost like his moderate gangster character called Dragon.

“The future is so bright, and I think [of] more shows, I think we have to partner with hotels, because it looks like the venues are cliché – so partner with more hotels. They should give us the space, they shouldn’t charge us [expensively], so we can do [shows] together, back to back,” he stressed.

    The Three Faces

Almost as if he were back on stage, spontaneously performing some lines, he said: “These faces have saved me, these faces have saved me.

“These faces came into my life and I’ve done a show with them. I’m not letting them go, I’m going hard on it.”

Jeffrey Nortey also revealed his desire to produce “a film with these [three] faces

“So let’s hope for the best.”

Malaysia bans Israeli ships over Gaza actions

Malaysia has taken a significant step by prohibiting cargo ships displaying Israeli flags from docking at its ports, citing Israel’s actions in Gaza as a violation of basic humanitarian principles.

This move extends to banning all ships destined for Israel from loading cargo at ports within the Muslim-majority country.

Malaysia, which lacks formal diplomatic ties with Israel, faced pressure from groups within the government to enforce this ban.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in a statement, announced the immediate revocation of the permit allowing Israel’s largest shipping company, ZIM, to utilize Malaysian ports.

He said: “These sanctions are a response to Israel’s actions that ignore basic humanitarian principles and violate international law through the ongoing massacre and brutality against Palestinians.”

ZIM and the Israeli government have not yet responded to the announcement.

  • Insecurity fears persist in Dr Congo polls

Insecurity fears persist in Dr Congo polls

On Wednesday, 44 million people will cast their votes to choose the next president of the Democratic Republic of Congo from a pool of 19 candidates, seemingly indicative of a thriving democracy. However, challenges such as insecurity and logistical issues in various regions paint a different picture.

The Democratic Republic of Congo boasts extensive cobalt reserves, a crucial component of many lithium batteries essential for a fossil fuel-free future. The outcome of this election could play a significant role in enhancing stability and ensuring the safe extraction of this valuable resource for the benefit of the Congolese people.

President Félix Tshisekedi seeks a second term, facing opposition from wealthy mining magnate Moïse Katumbi and former oil executive Martin Fayulu. Fayulu contends that he won the 2018 election, a result questioned by international observers.

The peaceful transfer of power after the 2018 election, a historic first for the country, generated optimism about a positive turning point in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s history.”

In this election, there is a single round of voting, and the candidate with the highest number of votes will emerge as the winner. The considerable number of challengers to Mr. Tshisekedi might work to his advantage, potentially dividing opposition support.

Voters are not only selecting the next president but also parliamentary, provincial, and municipal representatives, totaling approximately 100,000 candidates in this expansive country that spans about 2,000 km (1,400 miles) from west to east.

To facilitate the distribution of voting materials to over 175,000 polling booths, the electoral commission has sought assistance from UN peacekeepers.

In the lead-up to the polls, insecurity has been a predominant concern in the eastern regions. Numerous armed groups have vied for control over various parts of the region.

    Voting suspended

Despite the presence of a UN peacekeeping force, an East African regional force, and Congolese soldiers, violence persists, leading to the displacement of approximately seven million people from their homes.

Many of these individuals have been unable to register to vote, with the registration process criticized as chaotic.

In certain areas, voting will not occur due to ongoing rebel activity. The enduring insecurity in the eastern provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu has become a prominent campaign issue, with presidential candidates making ambitious promises to bring an end to it.

The prevalence of political violence leading up to the polls has also raised significant concerns.

On the eve of the vote, the European Union said it was worried about “the hate speech, violence and incidents that have marked the last few days”. There have been some deadly incidents, causing Mr Katumbi to briefly suspend his campaign.

Polls opened at 06:00 local time (04:00 GMT in Goma; 05:00 GMT in Kinshasa) and voting is due to continue for 11 hours. The electoral commission is expected to announce provisional results on 31 December.

George Quaye’s Image Bureau and Naa Ashorkor’s April Communications staged a rerun of “The Gods Are Not to Blame” on December 18 and 19, 2023, in response to popular demand following a sold-out performance on December 2 and 3, 2023, which received overwhelming praise from the audience.

On its first and second days at the National Theatre, Ola Rotimi’s play, which is a Nigerian adaptation of Sophocles’ original Greek classic “Oedipus Rex,” continued to draw sizable crowds.

December 20, 2023 is the scheduled last performance, and given that it’s the last show of the year, a sizable crowd is expected.

“Wow! On a Monday night? Thank you, Lord! This could only be you. We go again tomorrow and the day after! Thanks to everyone who’s supported and keeps supporting us in diverse ways,” read George Quaye’s social media post after day 1 of the rerun as he shared photos from the well-patronized event.

“You did it again, didn’t you!? A full house on a Tuesday night? Wow… we’re humbled and almost speechless! Thank you, Lord! And thank you too for making time to come see our play, ‘The Gods Are Not to Blame’! We go again tonight! Possibly for the last time in 2023! Keche Joshua reacts to Nigerians threatening to blacklist Ghanaian songs over ‘Play Ghana’ agenda

Joshua Kojo Ampah, also known as one half of the popular Ghanaian musical duo Keche, has responded to comments from some Nigerians threatening to blacklist Ghanaian songs in their country.

These remarks were sparked by the “Play Ghana” initiative, urging Ghanaian DJs to feature 90% local music in their sets at events.

The Nigerian critics perceived this initiative as biased, arguing that Ghanaian songs already enjoy promotion in Nigeria, and a reciprocal effort should be made in Ghana.

In response to these sentiments, Keche Joshua took to his Twitter page to express his views.

On Twitter, he pointed out that Nigerians had previously initiated a similar agenda, which proved successful for them. He questioned why they would now threaten to blacklist Ghanaian songs if there isn’t a comparable promotion of Nigerian music in Ghana.

“I was listening to Hitz FM and I am angry. I was listening to Hitz FM about playing Ghana agenda and I heard some Nigerians comment that they would blacklist Blacko and wouldn’t play his song. I want to enlighten you guys about something. When Nigerians started their ‘play 90% of Nigerian songs’, Tic Tac‘s song with Tony Tetuila was big in Nigeria. VIP’s ‘Ahonkawom’ was big in Nigeria. Sixteen years by Mzbel was big. Bollie’s ‘You May Kiss the Bride’ was also big. When they started that thing, we never blacklisted 2face, Nice, Davido, and Wizkid for here”.

“As we have decided to start an agenda which is the play 80%, 90% Ghana songs, you people are saying you would blacklist Ghana songs in your country. You see the aggressiveness. You people started and it ended beautifully. We want to start an end and you saying you would blacklist Blacko’s music? You people should go ahead and blacklist. What you guys are doing is not good”, he stated.

Association of Rural Banks appeals for release of GHS460b in locked-up funds

President of the Association of Rural Banks, Ghana, Kwame Owusu Sekyere, has urged the government to release GH¢460 billion in funds currently locked up with defunct Security and Exchange Commission-regulated (SEC) institutions.

Association of Rural Banks appeals for release of GHS460b in locked-up fundsAccording to him, this situation is adversely affecting rural and community banks, hampering their liquidity.

Sekyere highlighted that some rural and community banks also have funds tied up with existing financial institutions like SIC Financial Services and NTHC, both facing liquidity challenges.

He appealed to the government, Ministry of Finance, and SEC to swiftly intervene and facilitate the release of these funds. He emphasized the importance of accessing these funds to enhance the liquidity of affected banks, enabling them to contribute to the micro economy through increased lending.

Referring to sections 149 and 150 of the 2024 Budget Statements, where the Finance Minister addressed outstanding legacy issues from the 2017 – 2019 financial sector clean-up exercise, Sekyere expressed optimism that the government would implement these sections to unlock the funds.

Despite challenges, such as the domestic debt exchange program (DDEP) causing a reduction in coupon rates and longer maturity tenures for government bonds, Sekyere commended the relative stability of the rural banking sector. He attributed this stability to good leadership, effective supervision by the Bank of Ghana, and the regulatory framework provided by the ARB Apex Bank PLC.

Sekyere advised the boards of directors and management of rural and community banks to prudently manage their resources to navigate challenges. He made these remarks during the 9th edition of the Rural Banking Week in Sunyani, Bono Region, emphasizing the need for prudent financial management despite the adverse effects of the DDEP on some member banks.

  • Marvel Studios cut ties with Jonathan Majors after assault conviction

Marvel Studios cut ties with Jonathan Majors after assault conviction

In the aftermath of a trial aimed at vindicating him and reviving his Hollywood career, Jonathan Majors was convicted on Monday of assaulting his former girlfriend.

However, the outcome had the opposite effect, leading Marvel Studios and the Walt Disney Co. to drop him mere hours after the verdict.

Following a March confrontation with his then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, a Manhattan jury found Majors, 34, guilty of one misdemeanor assault charge and one harassment violation.

Jabbari claimed he attacked her in a car, causing “excruciating” pain, while his lawyers argued that Jabbari was the aggressor.

Majors, who was acquitted of a different assault charge and aggravated harassment, displayed no immediate reaction as the verdict was announced, looking slightly downward. He left the courthouse without offering any comments.

His lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, said in a statement that he “still has faith in the process and looks forward to fully clearing his name.”

She added that although he was found guilty of assault on the grounds of recklessly causing harm, his team was happy that he was found not guilty of the other assault charge, which dealt with intentional harm.

“Mr Majors is grateful to God, his family, his friends and his fans for their love and support during these harrowing eight months,” Chaudhry said.

“Mr Majors is grateful to God, his family, his friends and his fans for their love and support during these harrowing eight months,” Chaudhry said.

Marvel and Disney immediately dropped the “Creed III” star from all upcoming projects following the conviction, said a person close to the studio who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Before his arrest, Majors had been on track to become a central figure throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing the antagonist role of Kang. Majors had already appeared in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and the first two seasons of “Loki.” He was to star in “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” dated for release in May 2026.

Majors, whose credits include “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” “Devotion” and “Da 5 Bloods,” had been one of the fastest-rising stars in Hollywood.

The Yale School of Drama graduate also starred as a troubled amateur bodybuilder in “Magazine Dreams,” which made an acclaimed debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January and was set to open in theatres this month.

Ahead of Majors’ trial, Disney-owned distributor Searchlight Pictures removed “Magazine Dreams” from its release calendar.

Majors’ sentencing was set for February 6. He faces the possibility of up to a year in jail for the assault conviction, though probation or other non-jail sentences also are possible.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a statement that the trial “illustrated a cycle of psychological and emotional abuse and escalating patterns of coercion.”

The dispute between Majors and Jabbari began in the backseat of a chauffeured car and spilled into the streets of Manhattan.

Jabbari, a 30-year-old British dancer, accused Majors of hitting her in the head with his open hand, twisting her arm behind her back and squeezing her middle finger until it fractured.

Majors’ lawyers alleged that she flew into a jealous rage after reading a text message — from another woman — on his phone. They said Jabbari had spread a “fantasy” to take down the actor, who was only trying to regain his phone and get away safely.

But as Majors sought vindication from the jury, the trial also brought forth new evidence about his troubled relationship with Jabbari, whom he met on the set of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” two years ago.

Prosecutors shared text messages that showed the actor begging Jabbari not to seek hospital treatment for an earlier head injury. One message warned “it could lead to an investigation even if you do lie and they suspect something.”

They also played audio of Majors declaring himself a “great man,” then questioning whether Jabbari could meet the high standards set by the spouses of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Barack Obama. Majors’ attorneys countered that Jabbari had surreptitiously recorded her boyfriend as part of a plot to “destroy” his career.

Over four days of tearful testimony, Jabbari said Majors was excessively controlling and prone to fits of explosive rage that left her afraid “physically quite a lot.” She broke down on the witness stand as a jury watched security footage of him pushing her back into the car after the backseat confrontation. Prosecutors described the video as showing Majors “manhandling” her and shoving her into the vehicle “as if she was a doll.”

Majors arrived in the courtroom each morning carrying a gold-leaf Bible, accompanied by family members and his current girlfriend, actress Meagan Good. Expressionless for much of the testimony, he wiped away tears as Chaudhry urged jurors during her closing arguments on Thursday to “end this nightmare for Jonathan Majors.”

Majors did not take the stand. But Chaudhry said her client was the victim of “white lies, big lies, and pretty little lies” invented by Jabbari to exact revenge on an unfaithful partner.

The attorney cited security footage, taken immediately after the shove, that showed Majors sprinting away from his girlfriend as she chased him through the night. Jabbari then followed a group of strangers she’d met on the street to a dance club, where she ordered drinks for the group and did not appear to be favouring her injured hand.

“She was revenge-partying and charging Champagne to the man she was angry with and treating these strangers to fancy Champagne she bought with Jonathan’s credit card,” Chaudhry alleged.

The next morning, after finding Jabbari unconscious in the closet of their Manhattan penthouse, Majors called police. He was arrested at the scene, while Jabbari was transported to a hospital to receive treatment for the injuries to her ear and hand.

“He called 911 out of concern for her, and his fear of what happens when a Black man in America came true,” Chaudhry said, accusing police and prosecutors of failing to take seriously Majors’ allegations that he was bloodied and scratched during the dispute.

In her closing arguments, prosecutor Kelli Galaway said Majors was following a well-worn playbook used by abusers to cast their victims as attackers.

“This is not a revenge plot to ruin the defendant’s life or his career,” Galaway said. “You were asked why you are here? Because domestic violence is serious.”

  • Matthew Perry’s autopsy reveals cause of death as ‘acute effects of ketamine’

Matthew Perry’s autopsy reveals cause of death as ‘acute effects of ketamine’

Matthew Perry’s autopsy report reveals death from “acute effects of ketamine” and subsequent drowning, according to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office.

Perry’s blood tested positive for ketamine, a substance known to treat depression and anxiety.

“At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression,” the report states. The death was ruled an accident, according to the report.

Matthew Perry was discovered floating face down in his Pacific Palisades home pool on October 28, with authorities ruling out foul play.

The 54-year-old actor, found unconscious in a stand-alone jacuzzi, was reportedly undergoing ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety, according to the autopsy report.

Ketamine, known for its dissociative nature, is used medically as an anesthetic and is also a recreational drug with short-duration hallucinatory and psychedelic effects.

According to the autopsy, Perry received his last known treatment a week and a half before he passed away, which is far sooner than the amount of time the medication would have remained in his system.

According to the investigative summary of Perry’s autopsy report, his live-in assistant returned from running errands to find his unconscious body in the pool.

“The assistant jumped into the pool, moved the decedent into a sitting position on the steps, and called 911,” says the report.

Drowning is considered a contributing factor to Perry’s death “due to the likelihood of submersion into the pool as he lapsed into unconsciousness,” the autopsy states.

“The assistant did not report any recent illnesses, complaints, drinking, or drug abuse,” the report states.

    What medical experts are saying

Ketamine is a powerful medication used in hospitals primarily as an anesthetic, although studies have also found that it has significant promise in treating severe depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation. It can be used illegally as a club drug that creates an intense high and dissociative effects.

In 2019, the US Food and Drug Administration approved a close relative called esketamine, which is used as a nasal spray, for treatment-resistant depression.

Experts say that although the levels of ketamine in Perry’s system were very high, it’s unclear whether they would have been deadly on their own.

Dr. Ed Boyer, a professor of emergency medicine at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, said that “the elevated concentrations of ketamine suggest high levels of use.”

“Considering his last ketamine therapy was at least a week before, misuse – even recreational use – cannot be ruled out,” he added

Dr. Victor Weedn, a professor in the George Washington University Department of Forensic Sciences, said that people can react differently to different levels of ketamine and that it could become fatal because of its effects on breathing.

Perry was ‘happy’ and ‘heathy’ before his death

Perry was open about his past experience with addiction. While promoting his book “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir,” which was released in November 2022 and addressed his addiction at length, Perry said on the “Q With Tom Power” podcast, “The best thing about me, bar none, is that if somebody comes to me and says, ‘I can’t stop drinking, can you help me?’ I can say ‘yes’ and follow up and do it.”

The autopsy report this week notes that Perry had reportedly not used drugs for 19 months before his death. It also states that though he was a “heavy tobacco user for many years,” he was not a smoker when he died.

His “Friends” costar Jennifer Aniston said this month that she had been in contact with Perry on the day of his death, and that he “was happy.”

“I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty,” she said in an interview with Variety. “He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling.”

“He was happy. He was healthy,” she added. “He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape.”

  • Marvel actor Jonathan Majors convicted of assaulting former girlfriend

Marvel actor Jonathan Majors convicted of assaulting former girlfriend

Jonathan Majors, renowned for portraying Kang in Marvel films, has been convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, British choreographer Grace Jabbari, during an altercation in March.

The jury’s verdict was delivered on Monday after three days of deliberations. Majors, 34, could face up to a year in jail and has been dropped from upcoming Marvel movie roles.

The announcement prompted Marvel to state that they will not proceed with Majors on future projects.

The crime took place when the couple were in a car in New York and Ms Jabbari saw a text message from another woman on Majors’ phone, which said: “Wish I was kissing you right now.”

According to prosecutors, when she took the phone, he then grabbed her, twisted her arm behind her back and hit her in the head to get it back.

“I felt like a hard blow across my head,” Ms Jabbari testified.

The jury found him guilty of two of the four domestic violence charges that he was facing.

He was found guilty of assault by recklessly causing physical injury, as well as harassment.

But the jury declined to convict him on charges of aggravated harassment and assault with intent to cause physical harm.

The prosecution painted the assault as the latest escalation in Majors’ attempts to “exert control” over his girlfriend through physical and emotional violence. They shared voice recordings and text messages between the former couple with the jury.

“I’m a monster. A horrible man. Not capable of love,” the actor sent in a text in September 2022 while threatening to kill himself.

In audio from an argument that same month, Majors told her she needed to act more like Coretta Scott King and Michelle Obama, the wives of Martin Luther King and former President Barack Obama.

“I am doing great things, not just for me but for my culture and the world,” he said, adding that she would need to “make sacrifices” for him.

Majors did not testify. His lawyer had argued the actor was the victim, and that Ms Jabbari assaulted him in a jealous rage after seeing the text message in the car.

Majors, known for his role in Creed III, filed a countersuit against Jabbari in June, claiming that she was the aggressor. However, prosecutors chose not to press charges against her due to insufficient evidence.

Sentencing is scheduled for February, and the judge has issued a new protection order, mandating that Majors must have no contact with Jabbari.

She was “gratified to see justice served” by the verdict, her lawyer said, adding that it should serve as an inspiration for other abused women to come forward.

“Ms Jabbari testified publicly and truthfully, even though reliving these traumatic events on the witness stand was obviously painful,” lawyer Ross Kramer said in a statement to BBC News.

A lawyer for Majors said in a statement that his legal team is “grateful” that the jury notably did not find that he had intended to cause physical injuries to Ms Jabbari.

“Mr Majors is grateful to God, his family, his friends, and his fans for their love and support during these harrowing eight months,” said lawyer Priya Chaudhry.

“Mr Majors still has faith in the process and looks forward to fully clearing his name.”

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, whose office brought the criminal charges, said after the verdict that the psychological and emotional abuses carried out by the movie star were “far too common across the many intimate partner violence cases we see each and every day”.

Two years before the incident, Grace Jabbari encountered Majors on the set of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where she served as a movement coach.

In the aftermath of Majors’ arrest, Marvel decided to delay the release of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty until 2026, where he was slated to play the lead villain.

Similarly, the release of Magazine Dreams, a film previously considered a potential Oscar contender, was also postponed following the allegations.

  • Nana Amoako Poku Nominated as Offinsohene-elect

Nana Amoako Poku Nominated as Offinsohene-elect

The prolonged chieftaincy dispute in the Offinso Traditional Area seems to have reached its resolution, as the elders of Offinso have officially introduced a new paramount chief for the area to the Asanteman Council and Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

As reported by graphic.com.gh, the kingmakers of the Offinso stool presented Nana Amoako Poku, a 68-year-old member of the Offinso Ahyirem Royal Family, as the nominee for Offinsohene during the Asanteman Council meeting in Kumasi on Monday, December 18, 2023.

Notably, the queen mother of Offinso (Offinsohemaa), who had been a central figure in the chieftaincy controversy, was reportedly absent from the meeting. In her absence, Kwakwaboa Abusuapanyin, Opanyin Yaw Nkrumah Adusah, representing the royal family, provided information about the vacant stool and the family’s process in selecting a royal to fill the vacancy.

Abusuapanyin informed the Asantehene and the Asanteman Council that the family was nominating Nana Amoako Poku as the Offinsohene, introducing him formally during the meeting. This move came after the queen mother failed three times to fulfill her role in nominating a candidate for the vacant stool.

    Background:

On April 28, 2022, just before his departure to the United States, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II rejected a request from Offinsohemaa Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko to accept Dr. K. K. Sarpong as her choice for the Offinso stool. The Asantehene advised her to adhere to traditional and customary protocols.

The kingmakers of the Offinso Traditional Area had selected the former GNPC boss, Dr. K. K. Sarpong, as the successor to the late Paramount Chief of Offinso, Nana Wiafe Akenten II.

In response, some Offinso youth criticized Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, accusing him of being an autocratic leader who overstepped his traditional powers in the ongoing chieftaincy dispute.

The youth expressed dissatisfaction with Manhyia Palace’s decision for the Offinso kingmakers to choose a new candidate for the vacant paramount chief position.

During a press conference, concerned Offinso Youth members stated, “Offinso has taken note that the Asantehene has taken advantage of the respect our queen mother has for him and is therefore overexercising his powers, rendering our queen mother powerless.”

“We can say emphatically that Otumfuo has no power to destool or enstool any paramount chief and he should allow Offinso Hemaa to do her work.”

‘Running to You’ hitmaker Chike shares his reason for chasing older women

Chike has admitted why he prefers older women over younger ones.

The singer-songwriter and actor from Nigeria made a guest appearance on the Unpack with Nay podcast.

According to Chike, “most” young women “can’t communicate properly”.

In his experience, when one eventually finds “a woman who can communicate, they are slightly advanced in age”.

Revealing what he views as, perhaps, an average young woman, he intimated, “a girl of 23 years” cannot articulate her thoughts and desires.

The artist behind the hit song “Running to You” shared his perspective, highlighting that a significant number of young women are entangled in social media addiction, lack the discretion for a discreet relationship, possess an incomplete understanding of life, and struggle with handling situations in a mature manner.

Expressing his thoughts, he stated, “Imagine I’m involved with a 23-year-old; what complexities can she navigate? What depth can she comprehend? She might just want to take pictures and be on Instagram, broadcasting our relationship to everyone. What meaningful connection can I establish with such an individual?”

Now 30 years old, he acknowledged that there might be exceptions among young women but emphasized that finding such exceptions is genuinely rare.

Chike clarified that his emphasis on peace of mind and compatibility guides his preference for dating older women, a preference reflected in his two most recent relationships.

Numerous social media users have praised Mzbel, a female singer and entrepreneur, for sharing captivating images capturing her breastfeeding her daughter.

On December 18, 2023, Mzbel posted several pictures on Instagram featuring herself and her daughter. Both adorned in all-white attire, the singer was photographed nursing her child, drawing attention from online audiences.

She accompanied the post with the caption: “May the God u know help you to trust in His/Her goodness and love, even when you cannot see a way forward. I pray that u will be granted the blessing of children in perfect timing, according to our will. It’s important to remember that there’s a plan for each of our lives, and sometimes, that plan may include struggles or challenges. Be happy regardless.”

Many netizens who viewed the post expressed delight at the beautiful pictures and suggested that the Ghana Health Service (GHS) use them to raise awareness about breastfeeding.

“GHS has to use these pics for breastfeeding awareness,” said a commenter.

Ghana Health Service should use you for advertising and campaigns especially to teach new mothers,” another said.

“This is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Motherhood is the pride of every woman. U embrace it so boldly and I love you for that,” another comment read.

While some are praising Mzbel, others believe it was inappropriate for the singer to flaunt her breasts in public and that she ought to have covered them.

“U should have covered it with a baby face towel small,”, a reaction from a netizen.

    Overview

What is pancreatic cancer? A Mayo Clinic expert explains

Learn more about pancreatic cancer from Mayo Clinic surgical oncologist Chee-Chee Stucky, M.D.

Hi. I’m Dr. Chee-Chee Stucky, a surgical oncologist at Mayo Clinic. In this video, we’ll cover the basics of pancreatic cancer: What is it? Who gets it? What are the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment? Whether you’re looking for answers for yourself or someone you love, we’re here to give you the best information available.

Understanding pancreatic cancer starts with understanding the pancreas.

This small, fish-shaped organ sits behind the stomach, producing enzymes that aid digestion and hormones that regulate blood sugar. Pancreatic cancer typically starts in the ducts of the pancreas. Small changes in the cellular DNA result in uncontrolled multiplication and accumulation of cells in clusters called tumors. If untreated, these cancer cells can spread outside of the pancreas to other parts of the body.

    Who gets it?

While anyone can get pancreatic cancer, there are certain risk factors to be aware of. Most pancreatic cancer is diagnosed after age 65. Smoking, diabetes, chronic pancreatitis or inflammation of the pancreas, family history of pancreatic cancer, and certain genetic syndromes are all known risk factors. Carrying extra weight that is unhealthy for your body may also be a contributing factor. New research has found that the specific combination of smoking, diabetes and poor diet increases the risk of pancreatic cancer the most beyond any one factor alone.

    What are the symptoms?

Unfortunately, we don’t usually see the signs of pancreatic cancer until it’s in more advanced stages. When present, symptoms may include: Abdominal pain that radiates to the back. A loss of appetite or unintentional weight loss. Jaundice, which is the yellowing of your skin or eyes. Light colored stools. Dark colored urine. Particularly itchy skin. Diabetes that’s becoming unusually difficult to control. Blood clots or fatigue.

    How is it diagnosed?

If your doctors think you may have pancreatic cancer, they may recommend one or more diagnostic tests. For instance, imaging tests like an ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, or PET scan, can help your doctor see a clearer picture of your internal organs. An endoscopic ultrasound, or EUS, is when the doctor passes a tiny camera down the esophagus and into the stomach to get a close-up view of the pancreas. During the EUS, the doctor might collect a biopsy of the tissue for further testing. Sometimes pancreatic cancer can shed specific proteins called tumor markers in your blood. So your doctors may request blood tests to identify elevation of these markers, one of which is called CA 19-9. If a diagnosis is confirmed, the next step is to determine the extent or stage of the cancer. The stages are numbered one through four and may need to be determined by additional testing. Feel free to ask lots of questions during this process. Or get a second opinion to feel the most confident and empowered moving into treatment.

    How is it treated?

When recommending treatment for pancreatic cancer, your doctor is considering many factors, including your overall health and personal preferences. They may recommend one or a combination of the following treatments: Chemotherapy uses drugs that release chemicals that enter the body and kill cancerous cells that may be throughout. Radiation, similarly kills the cancer cells, but with high-energy beams directed at the tumor. Surgery is used to physically remove the cancer and the immediate surrounding area. Ask your doctor if you qualify for clinical trials that test new treatments. And lastly, there is palliative care. This care is provided by a team of doctors, nurses, social workers, and other trained professionals who specialize in providing much needed relief from the pain and unpleasant symptoms of a serious illness.

    What now?

Getting diagnosed with a life-threatening illness can be devastating to both the patient and their loved ones. But we have some of the following suggestions that may help patients cope: Learn about your condition. Knowledge is power and information can make you feel more confident in your treatment decisions. Find support. This can mean a support system of family and friends, a cancer support group of people going through the same experience, or qualified counselor like your therapist or religious leader. Lean on those around you when you’re feeling helpless, overwhelmed, or uncertain. You may want to consider hospice care, which provides comfort and support to terminally ill patients and their loved ones. If you’d like to learn even more about pancreatic cancer, watch our other related videos or visit mayoclinic.org. We wish you well.

Pancreatic cancer is a type of cancer that begins as a growth of cells in the pancreas. The pancreas lies behind the lower part of the stomach. It makes enzymes that help digest food and hormones that help manage blood sugar.

The most common type of pancreatic cancer is pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. This type begins in the cells that line the ducts that carry digestive enzymes out of the pancreas.

Pancreatic cancer rarely is found at its early stages when the chance of curing it is greatest. This is because it often doesn’t cause symptoms until after it has spread to other organs.

Your health care team considers the extent of your pancreatic cancer when creating your treatment plan. Treatment options may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy or a mix of these.

    Symptoms

Pancreatic cancer often doesn’t cause symptoms until the disease is advanced. When they happen, signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer may include:

    • Belly pain that spreads to the sides or back.
    • Loss of appetite.
    • Weight loss.
    • Yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes, called jaundice.
    • Light-colored or floating stools.
    • Dark-colored urine.
    • Itching.
    • New diagnosis of diabetes or diabetes that’s getting harder to control.
    • Pain and swelling in an arm or leg, which might be caused by a blood clot.
    • Tiredness or weakness.

    Causes

It’s not clear what causes pancreatic cancer. Doctors have found some factors that might raise the risk of this type of cancer. These include smoking and having a family history of pancreatic cancer.

    Understanding the pancreas

The pancreas is about 6 inches (15 centimeters) long and looks something like a pear lying on its side. It releases hormones, including insulin. These hormones help the body process the sugar in the foods you eat. The pancreas also makes digestive juices to help the body digest food and take in nutrients.

    How pancreatic cancer forms

Pancreatic cancer happens when cells in the pancreas develop changes in their DNA. A cell’s DNA holds the instructions that tell a cell what to do. In healthy cells, the instructions tell the cells to grow and multiply at a set rate. The cells die at a set time. In cancer cells, the changes give different instructions. The changes tell the cancer cells to make many more cells quickly. Cancer cells can keep living when healthy cells would die. This causes there to be too many cells.

The cancer cells might form a mass called a tumor. The tumor can grow to invade and destroy healthy body tissue. In time, cancer cells can break away and spread to other parts of the body.

Most pancreatic cancer begins in the cells that line the ducts of the pancreas. This type of cancer is called pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma or pancreatic exocrine cancer. Less often, cancer can form in the hormone-producing cells or the neuroendocrine cells of the pancreas. These types of cancer are called pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors or pancreatic endocrine cancer.

    Risk factors

Factors that might raise the risk of pancreatic cancer include:

    • Smoking.
    • Type 2 diabetes.
    • Chronic inflammation of the pancreas, called pancreatitis.
    • Family history of DNA changes that can increase cancer risk. These include changes in the BRCA2 gene, Lynch syndrome and familial atypical multiple mole melanoma (FAMMM) syndrome.
    • Family history of pancreatic cancer.
    • Obesity.
    • Older age. Most people with pancreatic cancer are over 65.
    • Drinking a lot of alcohol.

    Complications

As pancreatic cancer progresses, it can cause complications such as:

    • Weight loss. People with pancreatic cancer might lose weight as the cancer uses more of the body’s energy. Nausea and vomiting caused by cancer treatments or a cancer pressing on the stomach might make it hard to eat. Sometimes the body has trouble getting nutrients from food because the pancreas isn’t making enough digestive juices.
    • Jaundice. Pancreatic cancer that blocks the liver’s bile duct can cause jaundice. Signs include yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes. Jaundice can cause dark-colored urine and pale-colored stools. Jaundice often occurs without belly pain.If the bile duct is blocked, a plastic or metal tube called a stent can be put inside it. The stent helps hold the bile duct open. This is done using a procedure called endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, also called ERCP.During ERCP, a health care professional puts a long tube with a tiny camera, called an endoscope, down the throat. The tube goes through the stomach and into the upper part of the small intestine. The health professional puts a dye into the pancreatic ducts and bile ducts through a small tube that fits through the endoscope. The dye helps the ducts show up on imaging tests. The health professional uses those images to place a stent at the right spot in the duct to help hold it open.
    • Pain. A growing tumor may press on nerves in your abdomen, causing pain that can become severe. Pain medications can help you feel more comfortable. Treatments, such as radiation and chemotherapy, might help slow tumor growth and provide some pain relief. When medicines aren’t helping, a health care professional might suggest a celiac plexus block. This procedure uses a needle to put alcohol into the nerves that control pain in the belly. The alcohol stops the nerves from sending pain signals to the brain.
    • Bowel blockage. Pancreatic cancer can grow into or press on the first part of the small intestine, called the duodenum. This can block the flow of digested food from the stomach into the intestines.A health care professional might suggest putting a tube called a stent in the small intestine to hold it open. Sometimes, it might help to have surgery to place a feeding tube. Or surgery can attach the stomach to a lower part of the intestines where the cancer isn’t causing a blockage.

    Prevention

Screening for people with a high risk of pancreatic cancer

Screening uses tests to look for signs of pancreatic cancer in people who don’t have symptoms. It might be an option if you have a very high risk of pancreatic cancer. Your risk might be high if you have a strong family history of pancreatic cancer or if you have an inherited DNA change that increases the risk of cancer.

Pancreatic cancer screening might involve imaging tests, such as MRI and ultrasound. These tests are generally repeated every year.

The goal of screening is to find pancreatic cancer when it’s small and most likely to be cured. Research is ongoing, so it’s not yet clear whether screening can lower the risk of dying of pancreatic cancer. There are risks to screening. This includes the chance of finding something that requires surgery but later turns out to not be cancer.

Talk about the benefits and risks of pancreatic cancer screening with your health care team. Together you can decide whether screening is right for you.

    Genetic testing for cancer risk

If you have a family history of pancreatic cancer, discuss it with a health care professional. The health professional can review your family history and help you understand whether genetic testing might be right for you.

Genetic testing can find DNA changes that run in families and increase the risk of cancer. If you’re interested in genetic testing, you might be referred to a genetic counselor or other health care professional trained in genetics.

    Ways to lower risk

You might reduce your risk of pancreatic cancer if you:

    • Stop smoking. If you smoke, talk to a member of your health care team about ways to help you stop. These might include support groups, medicines and nicotine replacement therapy.
    • Maintain a healthy weight. If you are at a healthy weight, work to maintain it. If you need to lose weight, aim for a slow, steady weight loss of 1 to 2 pounds (0.5 to 1 kilogram) a week. To help you lose weight, exercise most days of the week. Slowly increase the amount of exercise you get. Choose a diet rich in vegetables, fruit and whole grains with smaller portions.

Selina Boateng claps back at Charlie Dior, others for criticizing her choice of clothes

Gospel artist Selina Boateng has passionately defended her fashion choice after facing criticism and speculation about her appearance in a tightly fitted corset dress.

The controversy arose in August 2023 when a viral video captured Boateng in a snug purple-laced Kente corset, prompting comments about her discomfort and appearance of breathlessness.

Fashion critic Charlie Dior, among others, criticized Boateng, describing the attire as a “hot mess” and suggesting she should have been accompanied by paramedics due to her perceived struggle for breath.

Boateng, however, remains steadfast in asserting that she looked flawless in the controversial outfit.

He said: “Selina Boateng is a gospel musician. We do not know who styled her, we don’t know who did her makeup or did her hair. We don’t know who did this abomination of a corset. None of this seems to be working because it is a hot mess. I think that this look should have come with the paramedics.

“There should have been a doctor, nurse, or surgeon on sight with this corset because watching her made me uncomfortable. This gospel musician has been causing a lot of conversations with her looks and gym videos.

“I definitely knew that she was also uncomfortable. The first rule in fashion, in fact in everything is to be safe and Selina wasn’t safe. She did not think about her safety when she put this corset on. I know corsets are in fashion.

“Everywhere I turn, the brides are all in corsets but it doesn’t mean that everyone needs to be in there. The corset was nice but the way it was styled was wrong. It pushed all her inside up. It was bad. Very bad. Corset mu cadet! Eii! This is unacceptable!” he exclaimed.

Selina Boateng addressed the matter on The Delay Show, which aired on December 16, 2023, and stated that her attire in question was acceptable.

She said: “Some people said I couldn’t breathe. I know myself and I know I could breathe but you rather thought I couldn’t breathe. I was okay.”

Responding to comments that a corset is not meant for her, Selina Boateng said: “It’s for me; why is it not for me? It was not made for ‘special people’. It’s for everyone. I don’t see anything wrong with the dress.”

In the meantime, Selina Boateng has stated that she is actively participating in the weight loss process and has committed to losing weight. She revealed that she regularly worked out at the gym in order to lose a significant amount of weight.

“I’m very active. It’s been sixteen days but it has been worth it. I know I have a long way to go,” she said.

Reflecting on his experience, Ike emphasized that Keyamo, not being a minister at the time, offered counsel considering the extent of the damage.

“How can you get the school back? What is his name, the Minister for Aviation now, Festus Keyamo was to be my lawyer before he became a government man. When he saw the damage, he said, bro…move on. The school is messed up,” he said during a live interview on Rubbin Minds, Channels TV.

  • Remittance flows grow in 2023 – World Bank reports

Remittance flows grow in 2023 – World Bank reports

The World Bank’s Migration and Development Brief, released today, highlights concerns about the potential decline in real income for migrants in 2024 amid global inflation and low growth prospects.

Remittances to low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) experienced an estimated growth of 3.8% in 2023, a moderation from the high gains of the previous two years.

In 2023, remittance flows to LMICs reached an estimated US$669 billion, supported by resilient labor markets in advanced economies and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, enabling migrants to send money home.

Remittance inflows grew for Latin America and the Caribbean (8%), South Asia (7.2%), East Asia and the Pacific (3%), and sub-Saharan Africa (1.9%). However, flows to the Middle East and North Africa fell for the second year, declining by 5.3%, mainly due to a sharp drop in flows to Egypt. Remittances to Europe and Central Asia also decreased by 1.4% after a gain of more than 18% in 2022.

The United States remained the largest source of remittances, with the top five recipient countries being India ($125 billion), Mexico ($67 billion), China ($50 billion), the Philippines ($40 billion), and Egypt ($24 billion).

Economies where remittance inflows represent substantial shares of GDP include Tajikistan (48%), Tonga (41%), Samoa (32%), Lebanon (28%), and Nicaragua (27%), emphasizing the importance of remittances for funding current account and fiscal shortfalls.

The trajectory of weaker global economic activity is expected to result in a further softening of remittance growth to LMICs, projected at 3.1% in 2024. Factors contributing to this moderated forecast include slowing economic growth and the prospect of weaker job markets in several high-income countries. Additional downside risks include volatile oil prices, currency exchange rates, and a deeper-than-expected economic downturn in high-income countries.

“During crises, migrants have weathered risks and shown resilience to support families back home. But high inflation and subdued global growth is affecting how much money they can send,” said Iffath Sharif, global director of the Social Protection and Jobs Global Practice at the World Bank. “Labor markets and social protection policies in host countries should be inclusive of migrants, whose remittances serve as a vital lifeline for developing countries.”

As per the Remittances Prices Worldwide Database from the World Bank, remittance costs remain consistently high, averaging 6.2% to send US$200 in the second quarter of 2023. In comparison to the previous year, sending money to all regions has become more expensive, with the Middle East and North Africa being the only exception.

Banks continue to be the most expensive channel for sending remittances, with an average cost of 12.1%, followed by post offices (7%), money transfer operators (5.3%), and mobile operators (4.1%).

“Remittances are one of the few sources of private external finance that are expected to continue to grow in the coming decade. They must be leveraged for private capital mobilization to support development finance, especially via diaspora bonds,” said Dilip Ratha, lead economist and lead author of the report.

“Remittance flows to developing countries have surpassed the sum of foreign direct investment and official development assistance in recent years, and the gap is increasing.”

A dedicated segment of the report explores the potential of mobilizing diaspora finances for development and fortifying a country’s debt position. Diaspora bonds offer a structured approach to directly access diaspora savings held in foreign destinations. Many nations have provisions for nonresident deposits aimed at attracting diaspora savings.

However, in contrast to diaspora bonds, these savings often exhibit short-term and volatile characteristics. Leveraging future remittance inflows as collateral presents an opportunity to reduce the costs of international borrowing for developing countries.

Given their substantial size compared to other foreign exchange sources, counter-cyclical nature, and indirect contribution to public finances, remittances can play a crucial role in enhancing a country’s sovereign ratings and its capacity to meet debt obligations.

    Regional remittance trends

Remittances to East Asia and the Pacific rose by approximately 3% to reach $133 billion in 2023. Excluding China, the region witnessed a 7% growth in remittances, amounting to $83 billion, supported by sustained flows to the Philippines. The average cost of sending $200 to the region was 5.9% in the second quarter of 2023, with a projected remittance growth of 2.4% in 2024.

Meanwhile, remittance flows to Europe and Central Asia faced an estimated 1.4% decline, amounting to $78 billion in 2023. This subdued growth is attributed to the high baseline in 2022, driven by substantial transfers from Russia, coupled with weakened flows to Russia and Ukraine. The average cost of sending $200 to the region was 6.9% in Q2 2023, with a projected 1.2% decline in 2024.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, remittance flows are anticipated to surge by 8% to $156 billion in 2023. The robust U.S. labor market positively impacted remittance flows, with a projected 9.7% increase to Mexico. The average cost of sending $200 to the region was 6.1% in Q2 2023, and growth is expected to slow to 4.4% in 2024.

The Middle East and North Africa are forecasted to experience a 5.3% decline in remittance flows to $61 billion in 2023, primarily due to a significant drop in flows to Egypt. Remittance flows to South Asia grew by 7.2% to $189 billion in 2023, led by robust flows to India, projected to reach $125 billion. The average cost of sending $200 to the region was 4.3% in Q2 2023, with a forecasted growth slowdown to 5% in 2024.

Sub-Saharan Africa is expected to witness a 1.9% increase in remittance flows to $54 billion in 2023. Key contributors include strong growth in Mozambique (48.5%), Rwanda (16.8%), and Ethiopia (16%). Remittance flows to the region are projected to increase by 2.5% in 2024, with an average cost of sending $200 at 7.9% in Q2 2023.

  • Akufo-Addo to introduce action plan, evaluation of Ghana’s anti-corruption system

Akufo-Addo to introduce action plan, evaluation of Ghana’s anti-corruption system

On Thursday, December 21, President Nana Akufo-Addo is set to launch the assessment of Ghana’s inaugural National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The NACAP serves as Ghana’s comprehensive strategy to combat corruption and foster national development, featuring strategic action plans derived from nationwide consultations with stakeholders.

This initiative aligns with Ghana’s commitment to fulfill obligations under the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), the 1992 Constitution, and the President’s dedication to anti-corruption efforts.

Notably, the NACAP stands out for its integration into National Development Planning, making its action plans an intrinsic component of the regular activities of Public Institutions, including Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

As the country nears the end of several years of successful NACAP implementation, it becomes imperative to evaluate the progress in the fight against corruption.

The formulation of NACAP was facilitated by a group of experts and anti-corruption practitioners constituted into a working group, comprising representatives from the following institutions and organisations: Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Office of the President, Internal Audit Agency (IAA), Parliament of Ghana, Judicial Service of Ghana, Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, National Development Planning Commission, Public Services Commission, Ministry of Finance, Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Economic and Organized Crime Office, Ghana Integrity Initiative, Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, Ghana Centre for Democratic Development, The Justice and Human Rights Institute, African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption, and Development Partners.

Free SHS achieves record-breaking WASSCE results in 2023

WAEC’s provisional results for the WASSCE, released on Monday, December 18, 2023, indicate that Ghanaian students have achieved their best outcomes since the implementation of the Free SHS policy in September 2017.

The press release, dated December 18, 2023, and signed by John Kapi, WAEC’s head of public affairs, reports that a total of 448,674 candidates, comprising 212,453 males and 236,221 females from 975 schools, participated in the 2023 examination.

This figure reflects a 5.8% increase from the 2022 entry figure of 422,883. The results for the “Ghana-only version” of the examination highlight the best performances in English, Integrated Science, and Social Studies from 2015 to 2023 and the third-best results in Mathematics over the same period.

According to WAEC’s published data, the years 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 have seen over 50% of Free SHS graduates achieving aggregates A1 to C6 in all core subjects.

The data further reveals that the percentages recorded for English Language (73.11%), Integrated Science (66.82%), and Social Studies (76.76%) in the 2023 examinations represent the highest performances on record since 2015.

The examination was, however, not without irregularities. WAEC in their statement noted that “following the completion of investigations into some of the cases of irregularity reported during the conduct of the examination, the 35th Meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee, held on Wednesday, 13 December 2023 approved as follows:”

“First, cancellation of subject results of 3,647 candidates for bringing foreign material like prepared notes, textbooks, and printed material into the examination halls.

“Second, the cancellation of the entire results of 839 candidates for possession of mobile phones in the examination halls, and lastly, the withholding of subject results of 4,280 candidates and the entire results of 1,005 for various suspected offenses” the WAEC statement read.

“Yet still, some subject results of candidates from 235 schools have been withheld for collusion and the use of artificial intelligence-generated answers. These cases are still under investigation. The withheld results of these candidates may be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of investigations” the statement further read.

Man murders neighbours in hot dispute over parking space

In a harrowing incident in Thailand, a dispute over a parking space took a fatal turn, leading to the brutal murder of a couple by their frustrated neighbor.

The victims, Michael Nixon and his partner Anurak, had just wrapped up a gathering with friends at their home when the horrifying events unfolded on Thursday, December 14.

The alleged assailant, Kachornsak Panyadee, reportedly became increasingly agitated with the couple’s guests obstructing the entrance to his house. Seizing an opportunity, Panyadee patiently waited until the visitors departed before entering the victims’ residence armed with a knife.

According to a Mail Online report, the assailant first attacked Anurak as she answered the door and then directed his violence towards Michael, who rushed to assist his terrified partner. Local Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaiwanich Khamlamool reported receiving a distressing call about the stabbing and promptly responded to the scene, where Panyadee surrendered.

Details from the police investigation revealed that Michael suffered two stab wounds to the chest and another to his torso, while Anurak was stabbed in the abdomen.

Anurak’s 18-year-old daughter, Parichat Longsokchueak, shared that her mother had frequently quarreled with the neighbor, particularly over parking issues.

“I don’t live with my parents, but I know my mom often argued with the neighbor regarding the parking. The perpetrator may have been dissatisfied with my family for blocking the parking space. My mother also tends to speak loudly, so that may also be a reason for his actions,” Parichat revealed.

Police Panyadee and the couple had regular arguments about the parking area, according to preliminary investigations conducted by Colonel Preecha Kengsarikij, deputy commander of the Khon Kaen Provincial Police.

In relation to this tragic incident, Panyadee is scheduled to face murder charges after she admitted to stabbing the husband and wife.

  • “Side chick” Deborah and Banker “sugar daddy” resume court battle over the custody of a vehicle

“Side chick” Deborah and Banker “sugar daddy” resume court battle over the custody of a vehicle

Deborah Seyram Adablah and her former lover, Ernest Kwesi Nimako, the ex-Chief Finance Officer of a bank, are set to appear in court on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, to resolve a custody dispute over a vehicle he purchased for her.

This legal confrontation arises three weeks after the court dismissed Adablah’s previous suit against Mr. Nimako, deeming it as lacking reasonable cause of action.

On May 16, 2023, an Accra High Court directed Deborah Seyram Adablah to surrender the car, a Honda Civic, at the center of the widely publicized lawsuit to the court Registrar. Justice Olivia Obeng Owusu issued this order to ensure the vehicle’s security until the resolution of the case against the banker.

Additionally, the judge mandated Mr. Nimako to submit all documents related to the vehicle to the Registrar.

The legal dispute originated when the former National Service personnel took the banker to court, alleging a breach of an agreement to financially support her while working at the same bank. In her suit filed on January 23, 2023, Adablah claimed that her “sugar daddy” had agreed to purchase a car, cover her accommodation for three years, provide a monthly stipend of GH¢3,000, marry her after divorcing his wife, and offer a lump sum to start a business.

Although the “sugar daddy” acquired the car, he registered it in his name, denying Adablah access to use it after a year of enjoyment. Additionally, he only covered accommodation expenses for one year.

Adablah, whose national service concluded in July 2021, admitted to dating Nimako, believing that rejecting the relationship might jeopardize her work experience. She further accused him of mistreatment, exploitation, sexual harassment, abuse, and damage to her reputation.
