Nicki Minaj remorseful after getting plastic surgery

In the recent episode of The Run-Through with Vogue podcast on Thursday, Nicki Minaj, the veteran rapper, shared her remorse regarding undergoing plastic surgery.

She admitted to being surprised by some of her pre-surgery photos, revealing that she didn’t appreciate them until after the cosmetic procedures.

“I guarantee you, if you change anything on your body and do anything surgical and all this, you’re going to — more than likely, not definitely, more than likely — look back one day and say, ‘I was fine just the way I was,’” the 40-year-old told hosts Chioma Nnadi and Chloe Malle, PEOPLE reported.

“And that’s what happened to me,” she continued. “I could not believe even some of the photos that I didn’t love.”

During the podcast, the co-hosts discussed Nicki Minaj sitting beside Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour at the Carolina Herrera Show in September 2011. Minaj explained that she deliberately avoids looking at her old photos because, as she stated, “I didn’t like the way I looked.”

“I didn’t like being skinny, having a flat butt, you know. Having boobs that didn’t sit high enough. It was a lot of things,” she added. “And when I look back at myself now, I literally was like, ‘Oh, I’m about to look like that girl again.’”

“The reason why I wasn’t able to look back at my old photos was I didn’t like the way I looked, right, physically,” the 40-year-old continued. “And now I love the way that person looks physically.”

One of the well-known Keche music duo, Andrew, has urged internet users to quit baseless support for political parties.

He has called political party members who typically remain loyal despite their subpar leadership foolish.

“I’m not the type who sticks with a political party even when things are not going well for us in the country and if I do that then I’m stupid.”

In an interview with Amansan Krakye on Property FM, Keche Andrew stated he doesn’t vote along party lines or because he was raised in the area.

“I don’t care whatever they say if people tag me as an NDC member because my wife is now a parliamentary candidate. My late father was an NDC member who held several roles in the party and as I talk my mother is the Women’s Organizer at Sekondi NDC,” he said monitored by MyNewsGh.com

“But as for me I have voted for NPP before though my parents are rooted in NDC so I’m trying to let you understand I’m not part of those who follow a certain pattern of voting because they were born into it,” he added.

Shatta Wale goes hard on online trolls after Stonebwoy Grammy snub

Dancehall King Shatta Wale has criticized the unjustified trolling of Musician, Stonebwoy, on social media following his omission from the Grammy Awards nominations for his recent album, “5th Dimension.”

Despite optimistic expectations for Stonebwoy’s potential historic nomination, it seems that such recognition will have to wait. This situation has sparked discussions on social media, with rival fans taunting the BHIM Nation president.

In response to the online taunts, Shatta Wale has spoken out, deeming the disparaging statements about the dancehall artist inappropriate. He has cautioned individuals against spreading negative remarks about Stonebwoy.

“Anybody who has posted or is mocking Stonebwoy that he wasn’t nominated for Grammys should delete it as soon as possible. It is a stupid thing to do! Total nonsense. There are songs we need to promote and that is the focus. Forget everything else. Everyone should delete that nonsense bullshit thing,” he stated on TikTok Live.

“If Stonebwoy did not secure a nomination should that be your joy? God did not create me to watch people fall. I want everyone to rise. I want everyone to be successful and make money,” he added.

The Grammy list, however, features some prominent names in the African music scene. Notable mentions include Nigerian superstars Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Ayra Starr, and Olamide and South African breakout artiste Tyla, who gained widespread attention with her viral single, “Water.”

One half of Les Twins, Beyoncé’s backup dance duo, Laurent Bourgeois, has responded to a woman who had accused him on TikTok of fathering 37 children and leaving them behind.

In a Sunday Instagram Live speech to his fans, he refuted the accusations and said the woman should “find another target.”

“My image is way too clean,” 34-year-old Bourgeois said. “If you find my 37 kids, tell them I love them so much. If they need a daddy, I’m here.”

“Give me the baby mama’s names. Where they at? I wanna see the babies,” he continued. “I wanna see what they look like, but I need you guys to understand — let’s do 10 babies. That’s a lot! 37?!… You guys are crazy. This is where I realized the world is nuts. Now, I understand why people and big artists talk less online.”

On TikTok, the accuser is a woman going by the handle @Lil_Curvy_. She stated that she is expecting one of the twins, but she is unsure which twin is carrying the weight. She claims that whenever the twins go out on a date, they trade places.

“I’m gonna let people ‘blah blah’ as much as they want to because I love my life so much,” Bourgeois said in his video Sunday. “And guess what? With or without the crazy things you guys said, my life would not change at all. At all. Not even a second. I’m doing so well. But can you come back with something true? Something I care about.”

Larry, the other twin, has not yet commented on the rumors.

Reflecting on his past actions, the ‘Classic Man’ artist confessed to manipulating multiple women.

Despite acknowledging the unfairness of his treatment towards these women, he expressed gratitude, recognizing that their experiences played a role in shaping and building him as an individual.

He said, “I robbed some women of their baby-making years. Dragging them along, they built me up. Look at me now and look at them.

“If you were a creative, I folded you into my artwork. If you were in my artwork, I gave you a job. I mastered your life. I gave a house, food, everything you need. I protected and provided for you. I did what men are supposed to do.

“I remember different quotes I said like just like really manipulated things to say like, ‘No one is going to love you the way I do.’ Oh my God! I’m ashamed of it.”

Expressing remorse for his past actions, Jidenna emphasized that it pains him to witness men manipulating women as he once did.

He vowed that in his next relationship, he is committed to putting in the same level of effort into love as he has invested in his career.

‘The presidency and vice presidency are one and the same’ – Alan Kyerematen

Former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen emphasized the inseparable nature of the presidency and the vice presidency, contending that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia should be seen as a single entity.

He made these remarks during an event organized by his political group, the Movement for Change (MFC), in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, earlier this week.

In what appears to be a response to Vice President Bawumia’s recent nomination as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Alan Kyerematen asserted that Bawumia assuming the role of flagbearer would make little difference.

According to him, despite Bawumia’s seven-year tenure in government, Ghana continues to grapple with an economic downturn, implying that the change in leadership may not necessarily bring about the anticipated improvements.

“Almost eight years on, the presidency and the vice presidency is one ticket… there’s no difference between the presidency and the vice presidency, they are one and the same, it is a combined ticket.

“So, whatever my younger brother Bawumia wants and can do, he has done already,” he said to cheers from hundreds of his supporters.

Leading the NPP into the 2024 elections, Bawumia will compete against former president John Dramani Mahama, the opposition candidate. A few weeks after leaving the NPP due to what he considered to be undemocratic actions following an internal flagbearer election, Alan also declared his candidacy.

Well-known showbiz figure Haniya Rosemond Alade Brown, better known as Akuapem Poloo, has given an explanation of her struggles with Ghanaian musician Adu Flatelo.

Akuapem Poloo claims that the musician enjoys spreading untruths about her, such as the musician lying on different media platforms to suggest that he has been having sex with her.

She continues by saying that even though Adu Flatelo apologizes to her for spreading such rumors, he will still continue to make those untrue claims.

“Nkonkonsa the blogger invited me for an interview. I didn’t know I was going to meet that young guy there. When I got there, he was sitting down. I didn’t recognise him because the first time I saw him on Legendary Lilwin’s set and he apologized to me, he was in braids. I have met him twice in my life. This guy goes around on radios, Gh pages, saying that he went to Dubai with me to sleep with me in the corridor of all hotels. This same guy went on the radio to say that in Kumasi hotels, the hotel tellers saw him sleeping with me”.

“This guy will say this, meet me and say sorry to me. He will go again and repeat the same thing. And today, I didn’t recognise him, but he recognized me because you wanted my trouble, you started insulting me and you think I’ll forgive you?”, she explained.

Dormaa Presby Nursing school refutes claims of expelling 80 students over academic failures

Principal of Dormaa Presbyterian Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Dr. Charles Agyeman-Prempeh, has advised the public to dismiss reports suggesting that 80 students were expelled for academic failure.

Contrary to claims that the Presbyterian Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Dormaa, Ahenkroh, expelled over 80 students due to academic shortcomings, Dr. Charles Agyeman-Prempeh clarified that no such decision has been made at his institution.

He explained that the students in question were instead placed on repeat status because they couldn’t progress until they met the cumulative requirement of 1.0 grade points.

“The school has rules, and before you come to the school, you are told that before you progress further, you need a cumulative grade point, and in the university, it is 1.0, and if you get below that, it means you can’t progress until you meet that requirement.”

“That is what we have done. We have repeated students who couldn’t meet the requirement, but the school hasn’t sacked anyone for meeting the requirements, so that report should be disregarded,” he said on Rainbow Radio Accra.

Cancel BECE, it is unhealthy for a child – Psychologist

Child psychologist, Dr. Peace Tetteh underscores the importance of parents adopting a supportive and understanding approach towards their children, particularly in light of concerns raised by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

The council disclosed that the scripts of 22,270 candidates in specific subjects are currently under scrutiny due to reported cases of widespread cheating.

During an interview on Adom FM, as reported by mynewsgh, Dr. Tetteh raised questions about the relevance of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and proposed considering alternative approaches.

She proposed, “Continuous assessment through ongoing cumulative records would be more effective than the BECE. Parents should take it easy on their kids and support them, avoiding insults as they may already be traumatized.”

Highlighting her concerns about challenges within the educational system, Dr. Tetteh advocates for a shift from addressing symptoms to tackling core issues.

She urges WAEC to conduct an investigation focused on identifying and addressing the root problems rather than merely treating the symptoms.

Dr. Tetteh emphasized, “The problem has come already. WAEC should investigate and address the core problem rather than addressing the symptoms. Parents should encourage the kids as every ward has their own gift. Schools have challenges; it’s not a perfect situation. Parents should make alternative plans for the child even after failing or not passing exams.”

Head of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s legal team, has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, labeling it an “auto-pilot system of government.”

Tameklo asserted that the President has delegated his responsibilities to family members within the administration, displaying a lack of concern for the welfare of Ghanaians.

In alignment with a former minister’s recent commentary, Tameklo concurred that the government revolves primarily around family, friends, and associates, describing it as a “family and friends and concubines administration.”

During an interview on TV XYZ on November 10, 2023, he remarked, “Akufo-Addo’s government that he is leading is on auto-pilot.”

“He is not the one managing the economy; he has entrusted the economy to individuals like Gabby, Bediatuo, Ken Ofori Atta, and other family members to oversee the country’s affairs.

“He simply takes breakfast and sleeps, while his family members manage the economy. Those we didn’t vote for are now part of the administration, as Frimpong Boateng stated, friends, family, and concubines administration. He was part of the administration and he has come out to say that the government is composed of family, friends, and concubines.”

Salary of German bus driver same as salary of Ghanaian ministers – Richmond Osei on Ghana’s economy

Richmond Osei, a Ghanaian residing in Germany, has provided insights into the advantages he enjoys as a bus driver in the country.

Having relocated to Germany more than a decade ago, Osei shared in an interview with ZionFelix, as reported by GhanaWeb, that his early experiences in Germany were far from easy.

Despite having the support of his family, including his brother and mother, life was challenging for Osei in the initial stages of his stay in Germany.

However, after undergoing training to become a bus driver, he emphasized that his earnings in this profession surpass the monthly salary of a Ghanaian minister, highlighting the favorable conditions he now experiences in Germany.

“I’m from Abrepo in Kumasi, but I was born in Accra…I have been in Germany for 10 years. I lived with my brother for some time but moved out after a misunderstanding.

“I have been driving a public bus for almost 4 years…I normally drive for a maximum of 10 hours daily. You have a one-hour break…It is a good job; if you are not smart, it will be a huge problem.

“You always have to be smart. It is a good job with the payment, but even with that, we are fighting for an increment.

“If I check my salary and I convert it to Ghana Cedis, I will say that is what a Ghanaian minister is taking as a monthly salary,” he told ZionFelix.

He continued by saying that the German healthcare system is excellent, and that as a bus driver, he also gets other benefits like free fuel.

Host post-budget workshop in parliament to save GHC 1.7m and more – Kofi Adams

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Buem, Kofi Adams, is advocating for Parliament to forego its typical out-of-town post-budget workshops.

He proposes holding the workshop within the parliamentary chamber, aiming to cut costs. The Finance Minister is set to unveil the 2024 budget shortly.

However, the suggestion faced opposition from Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who challenged Adams, questioning why he wasn’t willing to forgo his salary.

Adams reiterated his stance after the session, emphasizing the importance of considering cost-saving measures in the country’s economic climate.

“This year’s post-budget workshop, my position is that considering the situation we find ourselves in, it is really possible to have the post-budget workshop held here in Parliament instead of stepping out of Parliament“.

“I did just a simple calculation and realized that for just accommodation for the honorable Members of Parliament if you are using an average of 1,700 per room that makes the amount to 1.4 million Ghana Cedis plus. Before you talk about transport, feeding, and other stuff,” Mr. Adams stated.

He continued: “My view is that we could save this money and use it for many other very important things. As Parliament, we should lead the way to say that if we should cut down the cost of doing business for the government we must also lead the way and save this money.”

  • Govt signs power agreements to boost generation capacity, enhance efficiency in Ghana – Energy Minister

Govt signs power agreements to boost generation capacity, enhance efficiency in Ghana – Energy Minister

The Ghanaian government, led by Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has recently signed two Power Purchasing Agreements (PPA) to bolster the country’s power generation capacity by approximately 720 Mega Watts (MW).

The agreements involve 370MW AKSA in Tema and 350MW AKSA in Kumasi, operating under the new PPA policy, which replaces the previous “Take or Pay” arrangement. This initiative not only ensures a prudent increase in power generation but also aims to enhance efficiency in both generation and distribution across the country.

Addressing the media during the weekly Minister’s Briefing organized by the Ministry of Information in Accra, Dr. Prempeh debunked claims that the government has not added any Mega Watt of power.

He emphasized that the newly signed PPAs are characterized by a focus on efficiency, a departure from previous agreements. The government has also implemented various measures within the power sector to improve overall efficiency.

Key measures include the conversion of the 200MW KTPP plant and the 220MW CENIT/TTIPP plant from open cycle thermal plants to combined cycles, along with the retrofitting of the 132 MW T3 plant. Dr. Opoku Prempeh highlighted the government’s commitment to power sector development, with emphasis on distribution and increased incorporation of renewable energy into the generation mix.

Solar energy’s share has risen to 3.2% of the percentage target for generation by 2030, and ongoing projects include a 100MW solar Photovoltaic (PV) facility under construction at Bui.

The minister outlined steps taken to address challenges in the power transmission sector, such as upgrading the 161KV Volta-Achimota Mallan Transmission line and completing the Kumasi-Kintampo section of the 330 Kumasi-Bolgatanga transmission line project.

Feasibility studies have been completed for the third Bulk Supply Point (BSP) in Kumasi, the Dunkwa 330KV substation, and the Static Var Compensation at Ahodwo substation.

As part of the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) reforms, measures have been introduced to improve efficiency in revenue mobilization, including boundary metering and distribution transformer metering. Approximately 16,000 distribution transformers have been surveyed, with metering set to commence next year.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh also touched on challenges in the petroleum downstream sector, citing excess forex demand and increased global prices leading to pump price escalations.

Prudent negotiations, including the implementation of a forex auction window for BIDECs and the establishment of a credit reference bureau for all dealers, have been instrumental in mitigating forex exposure on BOST and BIDECs through the government’s Gold for Oil policy.

ECG has not been transparent on power cut issues – Edward Bawa

A member of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament, Edward Bawa, has criticized the lack of transparency from the Electricity Company of Ghana regarding the country’s power challenges.

He contends that instead of addressing the company’s shortcomings, the government has chosen to politicize the issue.

Bawa asserts that the ECG’s claims of localized power cuts throughout the year are false and that Ghana is facing a power generation deficiency that requires urgent attention.

“From the beginning of this year, mark my words and I am saying it on authority, up to Monday at 8:55, the total amount of the power that we had at available capacity was 3,407, the demand peak is 3,561 megawatts so it means that since the beginning of the year all the light off we have been seeing, you call ECG and they tell you that it is a localized problem. It is not true; we have a deficiency in our generation,” he was quoted by myjoyonline.com.

In addition, he said that rather than acting as though there was no issue, the business ought to have provided Ghanaians with a schedule to follow.

“So, if GridCo was transparent if the government was transparent, they should have given us a schedule. So that I know that in my area, if I am going to have light off, then I prepare for it.

“For the fact that for many years they have been singing this propaganda that they have not kept the lights off, so they are unable to deal with it,” he said.

  • Okatakyie Afrifa criticizes Fiifi Kwetey over tribal remarks on Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy

Okatakyie Afrifa criticizes Fiifi Kwetey over tribal remarks on Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy

Media personality Okatakyie Afrifa has strongly rebuked Fiifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for his recent tribal comments.

Afrifa condemned Kwetey’s statement suggesting that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia couldn’t be the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer due to his Northern heritage, deeming it reckless.

Afrifa went on to question Kwetey about his assertion that the NPP is an Akan party and challenged him on why the NDC has never chosen an individual from the Ashanti region as a running mate.

The controversy stemmed from Fiifi Kwetey’s remark, which ignited a heated exchange between the two figures.

“Is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia dreaming that in the unlikely event of NPP winning power, somehow after Akufo-Addo has run his term he [Bawumia] will be made the candidate of the NPP, Bawumia are you dreaming? You don’t the party in which you are? You don’t know that if you are not an Ashanti or Akyem you have no chance?”

Following Fiifi Kwetey’s remarks about Dr. Bawumia becoming the NPP flagbearer, Okatakyie Afrifa criticized him, stating that such tribalistic comments contribute nothing positive to the political discourse.

Afrifa highlighted that, by the same logic, others could accuse the NDC of being an ‘anti-Ashanti’ party since they have never appointed an Ashanti person as their running mate.

“What Fiifi Kwetey said there is no sense in it. What is the meaning of this? Fiifi Kwaetey’s party [NDC] asked him if from 1992 to date they had even selected an Ashanti as his running mate. Even the NPP at least used to choose Northerners as running mates. We are asking him even the party chairman, if have they elected an Ashanti person before. These kinds of reckless statements politicians make in this country and they think it is normal.

“For politics’ sake, we crush our heads. He said he can’t be today Dr. Bawumia is the flagbearer of the NPP. Is the conversation supposed to be about tribes? You are the ones campaigning for Akan votes yet from 1992 to date you have not selected an Ashanti as running mate before. So should we say your party is anti-Ashanti? Going into the 2024 elections we are going to police the political arena,” he said during his show on Angel FM.

His remarks follow the victory of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the NPP Primaries, officially securing the flagbearer position for the party in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Official results revealed that Dr. Bawumia clinched the victory with 118,210 votes, representing 61.47% of the total votes cast. Kennedy Agyapong, the closest contender, secured the second position with 71,996 votes, constituting 35.52% of the total valid votes.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto received 1,459 votes, while the fourth contender garnered 781 votes.

Professor IIedare advocates investing oil and Gas revenue for wellbeing of citizens

A Petroleum Economist at the University of Cape Coast, Professor Wumi Iledare, has urged African leaders to focus on utilizing oil and gas revenue for economic and social investments that enhance the well-being of their citizens.

He expressed concern that the current allocation of oil revenues to political interests has led to a lack of essential infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, roads, and electricity.

Professor IIedare made these remarks in Accra at the 2nd Offshore Africa Energy Summit, organized by Offshore Africa Magazine, where experts discussed crucial issues in the petroleum industry and provided sustainable solutions to sector challenges.

Emphasizing the importance of strategic investments in the oil and gas sector for Africa’s economic development, Professor IIedare highlighted the need for revenue to be directed towards training Africans, enabling them to play significant roles in oil and gas exploration and production.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, reiterated the significance of the energy sector in Ghana’s net-zero ambitions and highlighted the National Energy Transition Framework, developed with input from various stakeholders to address the country’s energy transition challenges.

“Notwithstanding our commitment to our net-zero ambitions as a country, our quest for energy transition must be approached with a great deal of circumspection. We must carefully examine it in the context of the reality of the current stage of Africa’s current circumstances and growth trajectory. This has even become more imperative given today’s global energy crisis anchored heavy disruptions in the global supply chain,” he said.

He emphasized that, according to a 2019 report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, historical cumulative net anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions in Africa accounted for eight percent of the world’s emissions. In comparison, Europe and North America contributed 16 percent and 23 percent, respectively. Dr. Prempeh noted that the report indicated approximately two percent of Africa’s emissions originated from fossil fuels and industry, whereas more than 15 percent of emissions in Europe and America were attributed to fossil fuels and industrial activities.

“Clearly this gap must be considered in decision-making regarding the global energy transition.

“Even though we, in Africa, are the least emitters, we tend to be at the receiving end the most, because our agrarian and resource-driven economies are susceptible to the effects of climate change, and our capacity to withstand its shocks is weak,” he said.

Bawumia storms Ken Agyapong’s home after NPP primaries

In a strategic political move, the Vice President and recently elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, orchestrated a surprise visit to Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent politician who emerged as the runner-up in the party’s presidential election last Saturday.

The impromptu meeting, which took place over dinner on Wednesday evening, aimed at rekindling the camaraderie between the two influential figures and fostering collaboration for the benefit of the nation as the 2024 elections approach.

While Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong had previously enjoyed a positive relationship, their dynamic changed when they found themselves on opposing sides during the recent presidential race within the NPP.

Dr. Bawumia intends to extend similar visits to other aspirants and opinion leaders within the NPP as part of efforts to mend relationships and build bridges ahead of the 2024 elections.

The unexpected visit to his closest rival in the NPP presidential race showcased Dr. Bawumia’s strong commitment to unity within the party and the broader political landscape.

During the informal meeting, both politicians engaged in a friendly discussion, highlighting their shared goals and commitment to working together for the national interest and the NPP’s bid to retain power by ‘breaking the 8’.

Vice President Dr. Bawumia and MP Ken Agyapong expressed mutual respect and appreciation for each other’s contributions to the party and the country. They stressed the importance of maintaining a robust alliance within the NPP, particularly in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.

Discussions centered around strategies to promote unity within the party, bolster grassroots support, and address key challenges facing the nation. The two pledged to collaborate closely on initiatives for economic growth, social welfare, and good governance.

Both leaders underscored the significance of prioritizing national interests over personal ambitions and partisan politics, committing to set aside differences and work together for Ghana’s prosperity and development.

The surprise meeting garnered attention from party members, political analysts, and the public, with many applauding it as a positive step toward consolidating the NPP’s position and fostering unity.

Observers recognized the potential of the renewed bonds between Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong to enhance the NPP’s appeal to voters and improve its electoral prospects.

The Vice President’s unexpected visit to Ken Agyapong serves as evidence of the importance of building strong alliances and collaborative efforts for the greater good.

As the NPP faces upcoming challenges, the unity displayed during this meeting is expected to resonate positively among party members and supporters, contributing to the advancement of Ghana’s democratic credentials.

You can’t handle Mahama and an internal coup d’état – Atik on pairing Ken Agyapong with Bawumia

General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has expressed pessimism towards suggestions that Kennedy Agyapong should become running mate for Dr Mahmudu Bawumia.

While acknowledging Ken’s potential, he refrains from endorsing him and expressing confidence in his composure during challenging situations.

He anticipates a tough period for the NPP, dealing with both Mahama as a formidable opponent and Ken Agyapong, who is likely to create challenges for party members.

“Kennedy will not be a bad idea to add but there are some things I don’t know how they will be able to manage…because he is a type that is free spirited. He would want to say what is on his mind and in so doing sometimes if you are not careful he won’t take things lightly even with the flag bearer. And that is where the internal coup will start. And you don’t want to be managing a tough opponent like Mahama and dealing with internal possible coup d’état,” Atik Mohammed explained.

The Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong,  garnered substantial support during the NPP primaries.

With his significant appeal to the masses, some sections of the public have suggested a potential team-up with the Vice President for the 2024 general elections.

Individuals who spoke with the media on the possibility of having a Kennedy-Bawumia expressed varying opinions.

Some argued that for the sake of party unity, peace, and to maximise the NPP’s chances, it would be ideal to nominate Kennedy Agyapong as the running mate for Dr. Bawumia.

NPP communicator criticizes Coalition of La Associations over La General Hospital Project

Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly condemned the Coalition of La Associations for urging the government to cede control of the stalled La General Hospital project in the Greater Accra Region, suggesting they take charge of the construction themselves.

Emphasizing the need to prioritize the health of Ghanaians without politicizing crucial matters, Mr. Ahiagbah informed the public that the government has secured funding for the project, with the contractor expected to return to the site soon.

He urged the coalition to redirect their community support efforts to other projects, highlighting that the La General Hospital is not the sole initiative deserving attention.

Mr. Ahiagbah proposed alternative areas for the coalition’s involvement, such as assisting victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.

On Accra-based Asempa FM, he stated that there are numerous projects across the country where the group could positively contribute to the community.

He asserted that the coalition’s call was misguided and an attempt to gain political advantage.

Man working as Okada rider accused of killing girlfriend, hiding body in room for 3 days

A man identified as Kwadwo Ben, who works as an Okada rider, has been accused of murdering his 17-year-old girlfriend, Adwoa Adadzoa, and reportedly kept her lifeless body in a bedroom for three days in Mpatuam, located in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.

The suspect, believed to be in his mid-20s, allegedly committed the crime on Tuesday, November 6, 2023.

However, it wasn’t until Thursday, November 8, 2023, that some residents in the area discovered the deceased girl’s body in Kwadwo Ben’s room.

The mother of the victim, Akosua Nkrumah, shared this information in an interview with OTEC News reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng.

“They have been dating for some time now, although I did not approve of it, the two kept going out, just three days ago my daughter visited him and did not return”.

“We live in the same community and so my daughter sometimes spends time with him, I never suspected any foul play until some boys in the area informed me about the incident. I rushed to the scene with some people only to confirm that indeed my daughter was dead”

“We invited the police and upon their arrival, they said their preliminary investigation suggests my daughter might have died three days ago”, she said.

She went on to say that the dead had deep, dark scars around her neck and that blood was dripping from her nose and anus.

The body has been transported to the morgue at Frimpong Boateng Hospital in order to be preserved.

    Arrest:

The bereaved mother stated that the suspect had been arrested.

She said the suspect was arrested by some residents while he was making arrangements to get the body out of the room and secretly dispose of it.

He was subsequently handed over to the police at Anhwerewa where he is being investigated.

Addai-Nimoh asked to retire from contesting for positions in NPP

Governance Lecturer at Central University, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, has issued a humble plea to Mr. Francis Addai-Nimoh, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who had aspired to become the party’s flagbearer.

Despite being one of the four candidates in this year’s NPP presidential elections, Francis Addai-Nimoh once again fell short of securing the party’s presidential candidacy.

This marks the third attempt where he has sought the same position, yet failed to garner the necessary votes for victory.

In his analysis of the NPP election on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” Thursday morning, the lecturer urged Mr. Addai-Nimoh to consider retirement.

“Addai-Nimoh should not go again. He needs to be tired,” Dr. Otchere-Ankrah implored.

In 2014, he also participated in the NPP’s presidential primary.

    NPP Flagbearer Contest

The election, characterized as a ‘showdown’ between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Member of Parliament for Assin Central constituency, Kennedy Agyapong, unfolded with the participation of over 200,000 delegates across 277 constituencies in the country.

Following the conclusion of the contest, the Electoral Commission announced Dr. Bawumia as the victor, having secured 118,210 out of the total 193,346 votes cast, representing 61.47%.

Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bawumia’s closest competitor, garnered 71,996 votes, constituting 37.41%. The former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh received 1459 and 781 votes, respectively.

  • Bawumia’s running mate may come from Manhyia – Reports

Bawumia’s running mate may come from Manhyia – Reports

Contrary to the simplified notion that choosing a running mate is solely the decision of the Presidential Candidate, the reality is far more intricate.

The NPP’s constitution, specifically Article 12(b), delineates the criteria for selecting a running mate, emphasizing Ghanaian citizenship and party membership. The nomination of the Vice Presidential Candidate is a collaborative effort between the presidential candidate and the National Council.

Conventionally, the presidential candidate presents their choice to the National Council, currently overseen by Hackman Owusu-Agyemang.

The candidate must also justify their selection before the National Executive Committee, a pivotal force in the campaign.

If the National Council rejects the proposal, the candidate is compelled to choose an alternative, with the National Council holding the authority to approve or disapprove running mate nominations.

Preventing potential party division is a paramount consideration, and consensus-building precedes these crucial decisions. A historical example is from 2008 when Akufo Addo’s proposal of Hajia Alui Mahama was rejected by the National Council, including John Agyekum Kufour. Subsequently, Bawumia was suggested by the National Council, highlighting the importance of achieving a balance between a technocrat and a career politician.

    Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

    Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

To be eligible for the position of Vice Presidential Candidate in the NPP, an individual must have actively participated as a party member for a minimum of five years and be nominated twelve months before general elections in situations where the party is not in government or the incumbent president is not the candidate. The National Council retains the authority to waive this requirement under special circumstances. Additionally, the nominee must fulfill the age and citizenship criteria specified in Article 62 of the 1992 Constitution, mandating that the Vice President must be a Ghanaian and aged 40 or older.

Historically, a North-South/South-North pattern has been evident in winning political power throughout the Fourth Republic. Apart from the Jerry-John Rawlings –Arkaah-Atta Mills duo in 1992 and 1996, presidential aspirants and their running mates have not exclusively hailed from a single geographical block.

Political scientist Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante has therefore advised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, to strategically select a running mate from the Ashanti region.

“If you look at this, we have started hearing arguments and conversation about the fact that it will be given to somebody from the Ashanti region – I support that call… For the Ashanti region, the mainstay of the NPP, if you pick a running mate from that place it’s good. But the issue is that the criteria people are talking about, even though I have not heard from the party because I know this decision ought to come from NEC and National Council with the support of the candidate concerned, so it’s not a very simple matter.”Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante

Bawumia Must Search Manhyia’s Stool Room

“Multiple names have surfaced in the media regarding the selection process. However, the final decision rests with the National Executive Committee and the National Council.

The Ashanti region, boasting a substantial voter base, is deemed pivotal for the NPP’s success. In the 2020 election, out of the total 17,029,971 valid voters on the Ghanaian register, the Ashanti Region accounted for 3,529,181 voters, second only to the region with 3,020,141 voters. Safeguarding the bandwagon effect of party loyalty in the Ashanti region is considered crucial for the NPP.

    NAPOBAWU

    Napo(right) and Bawumia(left)

Dr. Arthur Kennedy’s book, “Chasing the Elephant into the Bush,” highlights that approximately half a million NPP voters in the Ashanti region refrained from voting in the 2008 election due to the absence of an Ashanti candidate. Considering Alan’s influence, leaving Ashanti without representation on the 2024 ballot poses an unimaginable threat to the NPP in the Ashanti region, risking potential losses.

Moreover, many analysts argue that to sustain the NPP’s dominance in Ashanti, selecting a running mate from Manhyia is crucial. Manhyia symbolizes the seat of the Ashanti empire, and garnering support from the royal family is essential for achieving a higher voter turnout in Ashanti. Additionally, such a nomination is likely to secure the backing of the “Gentle Giant,” John Agyekum Kufour, who is also a member of the Ashanti royal family.

Therefore, exploring the potential candidates within the rich heritage of Manhyia remains the NPP’s sole option.

The ongoing lobbying involves several names, including Opoku Prempeh, Adutwum, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Frema Opare, and Ursula Owusu, among others. Opoku Prempeh, being a son of the stool, is particularly favored for the role due to his perceived ability to secure the Ashanti vote. His constituency, Manhyia South, demonstrated strong support for Bawumia by voting 85.5% in his favor.

However, the decision must also take into account the choice of the National Democratic Congress’ John Mahama. Many analysts speculate that Mahama intends to retain his 2020 running mate, Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang, as the pair has made numerous joint appearances at events.

The complexities are manifold, necessitating the Presidential Candidate to prioritize qualities such as complementarity, loyalty, and minimal baggage in selecting a candidate who can deliver electoral victory in 2024, and nothing else!

  • Kwamena Duncan scolds Sam George over “Religious Prostitute” remark

Kwamena Duncan scolds Sam George over “Religious Prostitute” remark

Former Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, has scolded Ningo Prampram MP, Sam George for describing Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a “religious prostitute.”

Sam George accuses Dr Bawumia of being a Muslim by day and a Christian by night because he once mentioned that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour and also failed to speak for Muslim girls on the issue of hijabs and fasting when the need arose.

However Mr Duncan has rubbished all such claims as he believes Sam George is only determined to undermine Dr Bawumia’s religion.

“Otherwise if we were to put our head to use, Isn’t that the best for our country? Where there are no chinese walls, that you are here and we are there, that we become united despite our religious differences? A member of parliament doesn’t see the good act of this?

Certain parts of the discussion reveal the following:

Kwamena Duncan: Aren’t there muslims in Ningo Prampram

Voice of Allotey Jacobs: There are.

Kwamena Duncan: So if they are celebrating  Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha and he purchases rice and oil to present to them, and they subsequently pray for him, he is saying….?

Voice of Allotey Jacobs: In essence they are prostitutes so they should take…[Laughter]

“So it’s up to him as a member of parliament to downplay the religion of someone else like that,“ Mr. Duncan concluded.

Samuel Nartey George described Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a religious prostitute on the Good Morning Ghana programme on Tuesday, November 7

He says the MP said the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Paty (NPP) cannot be trusted when his choice of religion is unknown.

He argued that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a Muslim by day and a Christian by night.

He accused the Vice President of refusing to speak for Muslims in the past when they needed him.

He then concluded that Sam George is not someone who should be allowed to lead the country as president.

“You are talking about a man whose character you cannot vouch for. Do you know whether our vice president is a Muslim or a Christian? Who told you he’s a Muslim? He’s a Muslim by day and Christian by night,” Sam George opined.

Nana B shares details on why NPP running mate will hail from Ashanti Region

The National Organizer for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, widely recognized as Nana B, has expressed that the NPP’s vice-presidential candidate will be chosen from the Ashanti Region.

He emphasized that in addition to the candidate’s regional origin, their competence will be a crucial factor in the decision-making process.

Furthermore, the party will take into account the individual’s personality and overall popularity within the country.

“Kwame, the running mate for the NPP in 2024, will come from the Ashanti Region. This is because the Ashanti Region has, over the years, been the stronghold of the NPP. However, that will not be the only consideration.”

“We will also look at the competence of the individual who will be selected. We will look at his or her track record over the years and how knowledgeable the person is. Did the person perform well when he/she was given an appointment or not?”

“The running mate we will select will also be someone who is popular and loved by the grassroots. We will not go in for someone no one knows of. We will go in for someone who has the personality to be able to move the crowd because we want someone to shore up our numbers in the impending elections,” he said.

  • Hilda Baci loses longest cooking marathon title after 5 months to Irish chef

Hilda Baci loses longest cooking marathon title after 5 months to Irish chef

Irish chef and owner of a restaurant in Japan, Alan Fisher, has achieved two remarkable Guinness World Records in the realm of cooking and baking.

His first record-breaking feat was the “longest cooking marathon (individual),” where he impressively cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes. This exceeded the previous record held by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci by more than 24 hours.

Not content with one achievement, Alan then went on to secure the title for the “longest baking marathon (individual)” with an incredible time of 47 hours and 21 minutes. The previous record holder, Wendy Sandner from the USA, had held the record with a time of 31 hours and 16 minutes.

What makes this accomplishment even more impressive is that Alan undertook both record attempts consecutively. This means that he spent over 160 hours in the kitchen, with just a little over a day of rest in between these remarkable feats. Alan Fisher’s dedication and culinary prowess have truly earned him a place in the Guinness World Records.

    Recreating Irish culture in Japan

In 2008, the year of his graduation from Dublin City University, Alan was in search of a new challenge. His journey led him to an overseas graduate program that connected Irish graduates with companies in Asia, ultimately resulting in a job offer at a company in Tokyo.

Over the course of six years, Alan not only established a solid presence in Tokyo but also met his future wife, who would later become his business partner. Despite his achievements, something within him didn’t sit quite right.

“After the wedding, saying goodbye to 30 friends and family who came over, I remember a feeling of being trapped, thinking to myself, ‘Is this it? Is this my life now, to have kids and work in the same company?’ It was time for the next challenge.”

In August 2014, Alan made a bold decision to follow his entrepreneurial instincts and embark on a new journey. For him, the choice was clear: Irish food and culture would be the foundation of his business.

Alan’s establishment, Kyojin Stewhouse, places a strong emphasis on the staples of Irish households, such as hearty stews, soul-warming soups, freshly baked bread, and, of course, the beloved potato. Alan’s vision was to create an atmosphere where customers not only experienced the flavors of Ireland but also felt the warmth of being in his own home.

    Breaking records

Alan’s introduction to the longest cooking marathon record came in March while he was actively participating in the “I Love Ireland” festival in Tokyo. This festival was a special occasion where Alan even spent two nights in a rented kitchen car, fully immersed in the culinary world.

During one of his breaks at the festival, Alan decided to research the current record holder for the longest cooking marathon. To his surprise, he found out that Lata Tondon (India) held the record with an impressive time of 87 hours and 45 minutes. However, by May, he discovered that Hilda Baci had extended the record, achieving a remarkable 93 hours and 11 minutes.

Throughout this period, Alan was also contending with the various challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, which had taken a toll on his business.

“When Omicron spread, a sudden dining out advisory from the local Government meant I lost all my reservations for the month of July 2022 and needed to take out a pandemic support loan just to pay bills,” he said.

“I was broke and heartbroken. To have worked so hard for so long, to give up your own savings, your own salary and then still need a loan simply to stay in business with no guarantee things will recover. That was a tough pill to swallow.”

Despite the recent easing of restrictions, Alan continued to carry this negative energy as he continued with his work. “Lata and Hilda’s achievements served as an inspiration,” he said.

To redirect his frustration and transform negativity into a positive endeavor, Alan made the decision to embark on this record-breaking journey himself.

The record attempt proved to be extremely challenging, even during the preparation phase. In particular, Alan had to make a food distribution plan so that there would be no wastage of the food he cooked. “Everything must be for human consumption. My attempt would only be successful if the people of Matsue got behind what I was doing and showed up to support the challenge.”

In addition, Alan needed to film the record his attempt for evidence. He was thankful that TSK, the local TV provider, came to help. “I know that they needed to allocate staff and resources to support this challenge. This costs time and money and is definitely not lost on me. I’m incredibly grateful to them.”

During the record attempt, Alan had to overcome different types of obstacles as time went by. During the longest baking marathon (individual) record attempt, it was his back that caused him trouble. Because Alan was mixing dough by hand, his posture got distorted, and as a result, his back got tight and sore.

Towards the end of the longest cooking marathon (individual) record attempt, Alan had to endure fatigue and sleepiness. “I peeled roughly 300 kg of potatoes during the cooking marathon. For the first few days, I would look forward to this each evening as it gave me a chance to sit down.”

“Towards the end of the cooking marathon however, as fatigue started to take hold I would find it more and more difficult to stay awake whenever I sat down to start peeling. The rhythm of the peeling would almost hypnotize me. I had one hallucination on the second-to-last day. I turned to ask someone to pass me something, like I would on any normal day only to realize there was no one there.”

In the face of numerous challenges, Alan found the unwavering support of the local community to be the driving force that encouraged him to persevere.

“It got to the point where I definitely couldn’t give up. In my mind, I was representing myself, my family, and Irish food, and through these attempts, I was sharing our story. As time went by it became clear that many people in Matsue were also wishing me well. As if I had been adopted into this community over 9,000 km from my home. How could I not persevere? That was the only option.”

Following nine intense days of relentless baking and cooking, Alan managed to produce a staggering 357 kg of soda bread and 590 kg of delectable dishes, which equated to a grand total of 3,360 portions featuring 32 different recipes.

The culmination of this incredible effort was beautifully rewarded when Alan proudly received his two Guinness World Record certificates.

  • More than 90% of NPP members including myself, don’t pay dues – Ebenezer Nartey

More than 90% of NPP members including myself, don’t pay dues – Ebenezer Nartey

Former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central constituency, Ebenezer Nartey, has said that approximately 90% of all members of political parties in Ghana, including the New Patriotic Party (NPP), do not pay dues.

According to him, members were paying during the membership card era until the party decided to change the style by transferring it into a database.

Speaking to Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, the former MP stated that following the changes, some members were still contributing but later stopped due to the hacking of some accounts.

“All political parties always entreat their members to pay dues, but to be honest and sincere with you, I can tell you that about 90% of our members don’t pay dues. I can’t remember the last time I paid dues because we were then using the membership card.”

In response to a question about why party aspirants are tasked with caring for the welfare of delegates instead of the entire party, Mr. Nartey explained that it’s a necessity due to financial constraints resulting from members’ failure to pay their dues.

As a consequence, individuals seeking party positions take it upon themselves to provide for the welfare of the voters, including transportation and other necessities, often with the support of sponsors.

While some prefer to self-finance their campaigns, others employ strategies to raise funds from their supporters.

Although the party is responsible for the welfare of its members, Mr. Nartey believes that relying solely on the party is not practical.

There have been allegations that some NPP presidential aspirants induced party delegates with money at polling stations in various regions to secure votes in the recent party primaries.

On the same show, political scientist and author, Dr. John Osae Kwapong, expressed support for parties funding aspirants’ campaigns. However, he also acknowledged the potential for candidates to receive an uneven distribution of resources from their parties.

He said, “If resources are uneven, it places the candidates with more resources in a more advantageous position than other candidates.”

However, Dr. Osae Kwapong believes that addressing the burden of candidates having to provide transportation for delegates could help mitigate the problem of vote-buying during primaries.

  • Retracing the collapse of Ghana Airways in 2004, key factors and events

Retracing the collapse of Ghana Airways in 2004, key factors and events

In 2004, Ghana Airways faced liquidation and ultimately collapsed.

During its operational years, in the year 2000, Ghana Airways provided flights between Accra and Baltimore, Maryland.

In the subsequent year, the airline made the strategic decision to introduce flights with a transit stop in Banjul, The Gambia, as part of its initiatives to expand its network and cater to growing demand.

In 1958, Ghana Airways emerged as the national carrier of Ghana, established through a partnership between the Ghanaian government, which held a 60 percent stake, and the British Overseas Aircraft Corporation (BOAC), owning the remaining 40 percent.

Its main operational hub was situated at the Kotoka International Airport.

Under a seven-year agreement, BOAC staff initially managed the airline, and some Ghanaian personnel were sent to London for training.

Throughout its history, Ghana Airways proudly represented Ghana with its distinctive livery, and those associated with the airline often took pride in their affiliation.

Ghana Airways operated with two Boeing 707-420s and three Vickers VC10s, providing flights to the United States, as well as services to Sydney, Australia, and Tokyo, Japan.

However, financial challenges began to surface, leading to the eventual collapse of Ghana Airways due to multiple factors.

In the early 2000s, the airline faced financial difficulties as demand for air travel increased, and its workforce expanded significantly. Additionally, Ghana Airways struggled to compete with private carriers that employed innovative strategies.

GhanaWeb Business delves into the key reasons why Ghana Airways fell short of its expectations.

    Management and operational woes

According to simpleflying.com, over the years, Ghana Airways found itself burdened with substantial debt, amounting to approximately $160 million. The former Chairman, Sir Sam Jonah, openly stated that the company’s survival was contingent on securing a foreign partner.

Before its ultimate collapse in 2004, Ghana Airways managed to provide flights between Accra and Baltimore, Maryland, in the year 2000. The following year, it decided to implement a strategy involving flights with a layover in Banjul, The Gambia, as part of an effort to expand its reach and meet increasing demand.

However, this strategy backfired when passengers in Banjul threatened to burn down Ghana Airways’ office. This incident occurred after a fully booked flight in January 2002 landed in Banjul from Accra, refueled, and then continued its journey to Baltimore, leaving Gambian passengers hoping to travel to Baltimore stranded at the airport.

During the same year, Ghana Airways had one of its DC-10 aircraft impounded at London’s Heathrow airport due to a legal injunction by the British creditor, BOAC, aimed at recovering some of the £4 million it was owed. The British creditor released the DC-10 aircraft only after receiving a debt payment of $1 million, a fraction of Ghana Airways’ total debt to the UK company.

By September 2002, the impending collapse of Ghana Airways had become an open secret. The government of Ghana announced an agreement with South Africa’s Nationwide Airlines, under which Ghana Airways would be renamed Ghana Nationwide International Airlines (GNIA). This agreement with the South African firm, however, lasted less than a year.

In 2003, the government disclosed its withdrawal from the GNIA deal and instead engaged with another company, British Midland. Under this new arrangement, Fly Ghana Limited was identified as the government’s primary shareholder and was expected to operate separately from Ghana Airways before both parties formed the new Ghana Airways franchise.

The plan involved British Midland supplying two Airbus A330s for the Accra-London and Accra-New York routes, with the DC-10s serving on other international long-haul routes. The new Ghana Airways would focus on regional flights, operating a fleet of Fokker 100s.

In 2004, the inevitable happened when it was revealed that the new Ghana Airways had been operating with an unsafe aircraft and an outdated license. Consequently, the United States Department of Transportation banned the airline, leading to the cancellation of its New York and Baltimore flights.

This ban resulted in the entire Board of Ghana Airways being dismissed by the government of Ghana, which assumed full control of the airline. However, the airline still faced considerable outstanding debt and operational challenges.

In an attempt to revive the airline, Ethiopian Airlines offered assistance to keep Ghana Airways afloat but proposed a deal in which the government would acquire a 25 percent stake in the airline. The government of Ghana declined this proposal, leading to the liquidation of Ghana Airways in mid-June 2005.

  • Extension of AGOA set to boost Ghana-US trade – Deputy Trade Minister

Extension of AGOA set to boost Ghana-US trade – Deputy Trade Minister

Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, has expressed her endorsement for extending the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) as a means to enhance trade between Ghana and the United States.

AGOA, initially enacted on May 18, 2000, and renewed multiple times, with its most recent extension in 2015, extends its validity period until September 2025. The legislation significantly improves market access for qualifying sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries by assigning a special program indicator to approximately 6,800 tariff lines in the US tariff schedule. This allows US importers to clear such goods from eligible African nations duty-free under AGOA.

At the 20th AGOA Forum held in South Africa, Mrs. Asiamah-Adjei emphasized the importance of extending AGOA to support Africa’s pursuit of industrialization.

Recalling 23 years ago when Africa did not have a lot of industries, she said the coming in of AGOA has served as a catalyst for Africa to “start building our own local industries”.

“For us in Ghana, our initial focus under AGOA was on the low-hanging fruit – such as textiles, garments, horticultural products and artisanal items. As we speak, we have made significant progress in developing our industries and increasing our value addition processes, and I believe there is more we can achieve.”

“And at this point, we firmly believe that the path for Africa to follow is industrialisation, creating jobs for our teeming youth and tapping into the vast human resources we have within our population. So, we believe that a sufficiently extended AGOA agreement will help us realise the dream we’ve always had for Africa,” Asiamah-Adjei – who doubles as MP for Akuapem North, said on the conference’s sidelines.

She said an extension will therefore be crucial to the country’s industrialisation drive. “It’s not just about extending the agreement for a longer duration; we also need to work on improving our utilisation; enhancing our digitalisation; and establishing a clear roadmap to track and evaluate the processes through which we can leverage the opportunities AGOA offers.”

Mrs. Asiamah-Adjei further called for enhanced partnerships with the USA to position Africa as an alternative industrial hub, supplying products “wherein we have a competitive advantage”.

In pursuing this goal, she urged leaders on the continent to create bespoke measures and strategies “to enhance our value addition processes, invest in training and workshops; and cultivate the necessary attitudinal change to understand that importing everything we need is not the way forward”.

In 2022, imports from Ghana to the United States reached $2.8 billion, marking a significant increase of 61.0 percent ($1 billion) compared to 2021 and a remarkable 850 percent surge from 2012, primarily attributable to AGOA.

On the other hand, U.S. goods exports to Ghana in 2022 amounted to $975 million, representing a 1.9 percent uptick ($19 million) from 2021 but a 26 percent decline from 2012.

The trade deficit in goods between the U.S. and Ghana for 2022 amounted to $1.8 billion, marking a 135 percent escalation ($1 billion) over the 2021 figures.

Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei attended the trade forum alongside Dr. Afua Asabea Asare, CEO of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Mickson Opoku, Head of Multilateral, Regional, and Bilateral Trade at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Cynthia Dzokoto, Ghana’s Trade Attaché to Washington, D.C.

  • Every leader leaves the country in financial ruin after their term

Every leader leaves the country in financial ruin after their term

Distinguished Business Management Consultant and the CEO of Ishmael Yamson & Associates, Dr. Ishmael Yamson, has expressed his belief that the level of corruption in Ghana is vividly reflected in the country’s economic state.

He noted that almost every leader since the era of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, has left the nation in a financially dire condition upon the end of their tenures.

During an interview with Joy News’ Evans Mensah, Dr. Yamson, a prominent figure in the private sector known for his substantial contributions to business growth, shared his perspective.

He also condemned the alleged incidents of vote-buying that occurred during the recently concluded presidential primaries of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In Dr. Yamson’s view, corruption in Ghana has reached an alarming level and is on the rise.

He expressed shock and anger over the audacity of individuals who openly admitted to paying significant sums during the NPP primaries, suggesting that political leadership was seemingly for sale to the highest bidder.

Dr. Yamson was particularly concerned about how vote-buying influences corruption when politicians assume public office.

He also attributed a significant portion of the pervasive corruption in Ghana to the role of political party financing.

“Now, when that man or woman has paid all that money to acquire the position, to go to parliament, where is he going to get the money to pay back? I have a clip that I have been showing to people. Someone who has contested parliament and sat in parliament offered to say that yes we paid. My competitors paid, I didn’t pay that much but they paid and I also paid.”

“There’s no shame even about telling people that you got that position not on merit but only because you could raise more money, or bribe your way into that office. And he actually answered the question; ‘when I get there whose money do you think I am going to use but state money? I will make sure I get the money and pay.”

“So, I think that we have a problem with corruption and we have to accept it” he noted.

“Helping others to buy our votes will not in any way change Ghana. It will not change this country” he stressed angrily.

“This country, for as long as we have leaders who have come into office indebted to people and they have to pay them back, Evans I am sorry. I am painting too bleak a picture, but it’s the reality” he told the host.

“…Because even if you yourself as an individual have not dipped your hands into the state coffers, what about all your followers and what have you done about them?”

He rebuked President Akufo-Addo for his remarks regarding the case of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, who was accused of hoarding millions of cedis in her residence.

“My greatest disappointment was when recently we had a case about a Minister who had so much money in her home, and the President said he hoped her integrity would be proven in the end. Why would the President even get involved in this when there are state agencies handling the matter?.”

“If you are our leader and you express trust in someone, how can you expect your followers to claim that the person is untrustworthy? It’s simply not feasible. I don’t believe that President Akufo-Addo has effectively curbed corruption in this country; he has not. If he had, why do we continue to witness a multitude of scandals emerging regularly, and why hasn’t he taken decisive measures to address and prevent them? Why have none of his associates who have been implicated in wrongdoing been held accountable or incarcerated?” he inquired.

Presidential staffers and other employees at the Vice President’s office arranged an unexpected celebration for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in recognition of his success as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer in the recently concluded presidential primaries.

The event took place at Jubilee House’s forecourt on Monday, November 6, 2023, and featured a guard of honor and the presentation of a bouquet.

Video footage shared by Joy News depicted the Vice President, visibly surprised, as he emerged from his vehicle.

The majority of the attendees wore white attire as they gathered to commemorate his achievement. During his speech, the Vice President expressed his appreciation and underscored the significance of their collective efforts in securing victory.

He said, “I want to thank all of you for the hard work and support that you have given me in this journey to become the flagbearer and presidential candidate of the great New Patriotic Party.

“You have worked very hard, and I want to thank you. This is only stage one, so after you celebrate this afternoon, you will start working again, and then we will move forward.”

Dr. Bawumia clinched a triumph with 61.43% of the overall votes, while his closest competitor, Kennedy Agyapong, garnered 37.41% of the vote share.

The remaining two candidates, Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh, secured 0.75% and 0.41% of the votes, respectively.

Atik Mohammed applauds Bawumia’s unique vision for Ghanaians

Former PNC General Secretary, Atik Mohammed, has lauded Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his decision to chart an independent path in his campaign for the presidency of Ghana, without relying solely on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s track record.

The newly-elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, made this declaration during his victory address to supporters and the nation at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, November 4, emphasizing his commitment to leading the country in 2025 with an independent mindset.

In his speech, Dr. Bawumia ushered in a new era, highlighting his distinct vision and priorities for Ghana.

“I have my own vision and my own priorities. Given the opportunity by you, the people of Ghana to lead, I shall govern as my own man with guidance from God Almighty”, Dr. Bawumia said.

“My vision is to build an inclusive, food self-sufficient, data-driven and systems based nation that will fully participate in the global digital revolution to solve our problems and also usher in a golden age of benefits from our natural resources,” the Vice President expounded, adding “I want to lead a nation that improves and unleashes the talents of our youth and offers good jobs with good pay, and sustainable growth with macroeconomic discipline”.

He further stated; “I want to lead a nation that improves and unleashes the talents of our youth and offers good jobs with good pay, and sustainable growth with macroeconomic discipline.”

Mr Mohammed expressed his enthusiasm over Dr. Bawumia’s decision to carve his own path in the political landscape.

He elaborated that by clearly conveying his distinct vision, Dr. Bawumia can avoid being evaluated solely on what he considers a “disappointing” performance by President Nana Addo. In Atik Mohammed’s view, distancing himself from the current administration’s performance is essential to safeguard Dr. Bawumia’s presidential aspirations.

“…His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia needs to show that, look, I am coming with a different vision because and of course, that is the only thing that will let people know that we are not voting for an extension of Nana. They are voting for a new entity, a new arrangement. So, I was happy to have heard him say that he is coming with a new vision which means he’s coming with an entirely fresh vision”, he said during Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo”.

He also deflated arguments that Dr. Bawumia is responsible for the economic mess created under the President Nana Addo’s government, arguing “the role of the Vice President is just supportive…It is not always the case that what you think is what will be put into work”.

Social media users troll Prophet Primate Elijah Ayodele over false prophecy on football match

Spiritual leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, found himself under a barrage of criticism on social media following a failed prediction regarding the Luton Town-Liverpool football match.

In a widely circulated video, Ayodele confidently forecasted a convincing victory for Liverpool with a lead of more than two goals. However, the actual outcome of the game took a starkly different turn, as Liverpool had to rely on a late goal to secure a single point in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Tahith Chong, in the 80th minute, gave the home team the lead, only for Luis Diaz to emerge from the bench and net the equalizer during stoppage time.

The online community didn’t hold back, with many individuals ridiculing Ayodele, labeling his prophecy as inaccurate and even questioning his credibility.

Some went further, expressing concerns about the spiritual leader potentially encouraging gambling by making such predictions.

Here are a few of the reactions that circulated on social media in response to the prediction:

KK Sarpong will not become Offinsohene, over my dead body! – Rev. Obofour roars

Founder and spiritual leader of Anointed Palace Chapel International, Rev. Obofour, has involved himself in the current dispute over the selection of a new chief for Offinso.

In a video spotted by GhanaWeb, the clergyman, reportedly a native of the Ashanti town, made a resolute declaration that Dr. KK Sarpong, the former head of the Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) who has been put forth as a candidate for the chieftaincy, will never ascend to the position of chief in Offinso.

“There’s someone out there who believes he is mightier than all, he has been outdoored and he thinks he will be chief of Offinso but that’s a lie.

“His name will be mentioned alright and he can use all the power he has but he can never assume the Offinso stool. Because your claim to chieftaincy lies with where your mother was buried, you can go and make your claim there. As for the the Offinso stool, you will never have it whether you are KK. Whoever or KK whatever.

“You will never be chief of Offinso as far as my life and my soul lives and the truth lies with Manhyia Palace,” he added.

The nominee for the Offinso stool, Dr. KK Sarpong, selected by the town’s queen mother, Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, has faced rejection from Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu.

Despite being chosen by the kingmakers of the Offinso Traditional Area to succeed the late Paramount Chief, Nana Wiafe Akenten II, Dr. Sarpong’s nomination has sparked a conflict involving Manhyia Palace, Offinso’s elders, and his kinsmen, following the decision by the Ashanti Kingdom’s overlord to disapprove of his candidacy.

  • 4 out of 10 – Dr. Ishmael rates President Akufo-Addo’s fight against corruption

4 out of 10 – Dr. Ishmael rates President Akufo-Addo’s fight against corruption

Renowned Ghanaian economist and businessman, Dr. Ishmael Evans Yamson, has expressed his belief that President Akufo-Addo has not effectively addressed the issue of corruption.

Dr. Yamson shared his views during an upcoming episode of PM Express on Joy News, in a conversation with Evans Mensah on Tuesday, November 7.

He discussed the topic of corruption in light of recent allegations of vote-buying during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.

Dr. Yamson, who is a Business Management Consultant and the CEO of Ishmael Yamson & Associates, specifically highlighted Ghana’s first President as the only leader who actively opposed corruption.

He further observed that all subsequent leaders, including the current President, have fallen short in addressing this problem, ultimately leaving the nation in a precarious financial state at the end of their respective tenures.

“Every leader in this country, by the time he leaves office, Ghana is bankrupt because the leader has been very corrupt. And I am not afraid to talk about this because it’s the reality.”

The octogenarian, in particular, strongly denounced the practice of vote-buying in Ghanaian politics. He issued a stern warning that Ghana’s prospects for improvement would be severely compromised if such behavior is allowed to persist and grow, as was witnessed during the NPP’s presidential primaries.

“Helping others to buy our votes will not in any way change Ghana. It will not change this country” he stressed angrily.

The individual, recognized for his significant contributions to the expansion of Ghana’s private sector, also pointed a finger at the influence of political party financing in the widespread corruption within Ghana.

“This country, for as long as we have leaders who have come into office indebted to people and they have to pay them back, Evans I am sorry. I am painting too bleak a picture, but it’s the reality” he told the host.

When the host, Evans Mensah asked about his view of President Akufo-Addo in the fight against corruption, he responded, “If I mark him [Akufo-Addo] with the same scheme, probably it will be four out of 10.”

When the host retorted ‘That’s a fail’, “Dr Yamson responded, “Oh yes, because even if you yourself as an individual have not dipped your hands into the state coffers, what about all your followers and what have you done about them?”

Similar to numerous others, the 81-year-old retired Chairman & CEO of Unilever Ghana, who boasts extensive expertise in business and economic matters, also criticized the President’s response to the case involving the former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah. This case revolved around allegations that she had hoarded millions of cedis in her residence.

“My greatest disappointment was when recently we had a case about a Minister who had so much money in her home, and the President said he hoped her integrity would be proven in the end. Why would the President even get involved in this when there are state agencies handling the matter?”

“If you are our leader and you say you trust the person, how do you expect the people following you to go and say the person cannot be trusted; it’s not possible. I don’t think he [President Akufo-Addo] has been able to stamp down corruption in this country; he hasn’t. Because if he has, then all the scandals that come up day after day, why hasn’t he taken firm action to deal with all those things and stop them? Why isn’t any of his people who have been found culpable not in jail?” he asked.

  • Ghanaians advocate for Ken Agyapong to become Bawumia’s running mate

Ghanaians advocate for Ken Agyapong to become Bawumia’s running mate

Formidable candidate, Kennedy Agyapong, who enjoyed substantial support during the primaries, has prompted discussions about a possible alliance with Vice President Bawumia for the 2024 elections.

This comes after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) officially endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 general elections on November 4, 2023,

He emerged as the top contender, receiving 118,210 votes, equivalent to 61.43%. He outperformed other candidates, including Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Owusu Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, who received 71,191 votes (37.41%), 1,459 votes (0.76%), and 781 votes (0.41%) respectively.

However individuals interviewed by GhanaWeb expressed diverse opinions on the prospect of a Kennedy-Bawumia ticket.

Some argued that, for the sake of party unity, peace, and to maximize the NPP’s electoral prospects, nominating Kennedy Agyapong as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate would be an ideal choice. They believed that his business acumen could complement Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, creating a strong and balanced team for the election.

“I was supporting Kennedy to be the flagbearer and that didn’t happen. So for the sake of unity and peace in the party, they should go in for Kennedy to be running mate for Bawumia. We haven’t had a businessman take the presidency thus far. Therefore, I believe it will be ideal for the party to get him to bring his ideas to support Bawumia.

“Bawumia is not a strong candidate for the NDC, they will win the election easily. Even if the NDC picks me to contest Bawumia, I will beat him,” one of the individuals told GhanaWeb.

Another also said “Now that Bawumia is coming, we are praying he chooses Kennedy as a running mate. If he doesn’t, we can’t tell what will become of the NPP and the NDC will win the election very simply. The NDC themselves have said that once it is Bawumia who is leading the party, they’ve won the elections in advance.

“The NPP’s chances of winning is Kennedy Agyapong. If you look at the support he got from the youth, if he had won as flagbearer, it would have been a tough election in 2024. So we are pleading with the fathers of the party to listen to what we the youth of the party are saying and make Kennedy the running mate for Bawumia.”

On the flip side, an alternative perspective raised apprehensions regarding the possibility of Kennedy Agyapong becoming a running mate, as it might jeopardize his future presidential aspirations.

The argument centered on the notion that if Kennedy were to assume the role of vice president, he could potentially face age-related eligibility constraints for the presidency, especially after serving the maximum two-term tenure.

“If Kennedy becomes Bawumia’s vice, how then can he become the president? He is 62 years now, after the eight year period, he will be too old to become a president. It is better for the party to go into opposition, then he can work underground with the grassroot, so that after the four years of Mahama, he would get a chance.

“Not all the delegates voted for Bawumia. This means that Kennedy also has some followers. So if Kennedy agrees to become Bawumia’s vice president, he will never get the chance to be president of the country. It is better he follows the party into opposition,” he said.

  • Bawumia cannot become president without Ken Agyapong – Ralph Agyapong

Bawumia cannot become president without Ken Agyapong – Ralph Agyapong

In the aftermath of the NPP’s Presidential Primaries held on November 4, 2023, where Kennedy Agyapong garnered substantial support, his brother and legal representative, Ralph Agyapong, emphasizes the critical importance of Kennedy’s backing for the NPP’s chances in the upcoming 2024 elections.

“If you look at the confidence that Vice President Dr. Bawumia was having, it appears they had their arrangements that we had no idea about. If we had started the campaign early, I believe things would have been better than this,” he said.

He added,” When you look at all the results from the regions especially where Kennedy Agyapong pulled higher results, the party has to be careful and position themselves well because you can see that without Kennedy Agyapong there is no way they can win this election in 2024…there is no way they can win without him.”

During an interview conducted on November 6, 2023, on Okay FM, Ralph Agyapong called upon the party to refrain from targeting Kennedy Agyapong.

He asserted that the party has frequently accused him of jeopardizing its success due to his candid and contentious statements.

“Nobody has approached him for any position (vice presidential slot). They accuse him of destroying the party with his utterances, so why don’t they leave him alone now?”

In the NPP flagbearer election, Kennedy Agyapong was defeated by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Dr. Bawumia clinched victory with a substantial 61.43% of the total votes, while Kennedy Agyapong, his nearest competitor, received 37.41% of the vote share.

The remaining two contestants, Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh, secured 0.75% and 0.41%, respectively.

Can GHC400 influence your vote? – Sammi Awuku asks JoyNews’ Emefa

Member of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Sammi Awuku has inquired from JoyNews journalist, Emefa Apaw, whether an amount of GHC400 can sway someone’s decision or influence their vote.

His query is aimed at dispelling the notion that funds were distributed by the Vice President’s camp to New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in order to secure their votes.

Mr Awuku explained that there were individuals who just wanted to see the success of the democratic process, and decided on their own to support a circle of people with food and water.

“So what we did was to assign and locate all these people. But, we said that no matter the support you want to give, please do not go beyond a certain threshold because it cannot be victory procured on the altar of purchase.[Emefa: So the GHc 400 was not influence their vote? Sammy: Not at all. Because you cannot. Sammy asks Emefa : Can 400 influence your vote?] “

Information gathered by the media during Saturday’s presidential primaries had it that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia shared Ghc 400 as transportation and his main contender, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong also gave out Ghc 300 to each delegate.

Meanwhile, an NPP delegate, Sir Collins, has expressed deep frustration and disappointment with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his team. Collins’ discontent arises from the purported provision of what he perceives as a meager GH¢400 to the party’s delegates.

In an interview with GHOne TV, Collins passionately conveyed his dissatisfaction, deeming it an affront that Dr. Bawumia, who aspires to become the party’s flagbearer, offered a modest GH¢400 to the delegates. Collins highlighted the noticeable difference in resources and support, questioning why another contender, Kennedy Agyapong, who allegedly enjoys less support from government appointees and the party’s core members, provided GH¢300.

An irate Collins contended that the GH¢100 disparity between Bawumia and Agyapong’s offers is unacceptable, emphasizing that the vice president should have presented a significantly larger amount.

GHC400 “T and T”: How Bawumia got the money to pay delegates

Member of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Sammi Awuku has shed light on the fundraising efforts that were employed to compensate delegates during the recently concluded presidential primaries.

He emphasized that it wasn’t solely Vice President Bawumia, but all the candidates established a platform to seek financial contributions from individuals and supporters.

This approach was taken because, as he stated, “no one runs a campaign from their own pocket.”

“Even the nomination forms of the aspirant states that they must be resourceful. Either you have the resources or you must be resourceful for you to be able to help us as a party. These four gentlemen signed up for it. No one runs campaign from their pocket entirely. Not even Donald trump could do it. And that is why all of them launched a fundraising form of activity. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong did, Dr. Bawumia did, Afriyie Akoto did, almost all of the them.

“So that if Emefa Apaw is convinced that may be kojo Opoku can be a good leader for us, may be i am chipping in my Ghc200.00 or Ghc500.00 to support this journey of yours. Many of the funds that I know from Dr. Bawumia’s side was raised through many of these people coming together to help him,” Mr Awuku expressed to the media.

However, information gathered by the media during Saturday’s presidential primaries had it that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia shared Ghc 400 as transportation and his main contender, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong also gave out Ghc 300 to each delegate.

Meanwhile, an NPP delegate, self-identified as Sir Collins, has expressed deep frustration and disappointment with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his team. Collins’ discontent arises from the purported provision of what he perceives as a meager GH¢400 to the party’s delegates.

Togolese, Ghanaians to enjoy reduced call costs with concluded free-roaming agreement

A recent agreement has brought good news for both Togolese and Ghanaians, as they can now enjoy lower rates for roaming calls. The free-roaming pact between the two nations has been officially completed.

The agreement, as reported by asaaseradio.com, was officially signed on November 1, 2023, in Accra, Ghana.

It was signed by Michel Yaovi Galley, the Director-General of Togo’s telecom watchdog, ARCEP, and Joe Anokye from Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA).

Togo’s ARCEP expressed that the successful conclusion of this deal followed months of discussions between regulatory authorities and representatives of mobile operators operating in both countries, including MTN, Airtel, Vodafone Moov Africa Togo, and Togo Cellulaire.

Commencing from March 1, 2024, cell phone users in both Ghana and Togo will experience reduced roaming charges, thanks to this agreement. Mobile operators in both countries have decided to lower rates for travelers from Togo visiting Ghana and vice versa.

“In detail, call reception is now free for the first thirty (30) consecutive days for Ghanaian customers visiting Togo and for Togolese customers staying in Ghana, whereas it is currently billed at CFA240 per minute with Togo Cellulaire and CFA207 with Moov Africa Togo.

“Calls will cost CFA8.67 (GHC 0.17) per minute, compared with CFA279 (GHC5.45) with Togo Cellulaire and CFA550 (GC10.73) with Moov Africa Togo before. The cost of internet data has been capped at CFA1.6 per MB, against CFA8,400 (GHC163.92) on Togocel and CFA200 (maximum) on Moov, at present,” asaaseradio’s report said.

Museveni downplays exclusion from key US trade pact

Uganda’s President has played down the significance of the United States’ decision to exclude his country from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa) due to human rights concerns.

Agoa had allowed Uganda to export goods to the US duty-free for years, but President Joe Biden recently announced the exclusion of Uganda (as well as Gabon, Niger, and the Central African Republic) from the trade agreement starting in January.

The US government had previously considered removing Uganda from Agoa and imposing sanctions following the passage of a contentious anti-homosexuality law in the country.

This law, which includes a death penalty for certain same-sex acts, has faced widespread international criticism.

Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni, took to social media to reassure the public, stating that they shouldn’t be overly concerned about the decision.

He added, “As far as Uganda is concerned, we have the capacity to achieve our growth and transformation targets, even if some of the actors do not support us.”

His son-in-law and senior aide, Odrek Rwabwogo, had earlier warned about the potential adverse effects on Ugandan farmers and small business owners due to the expulsion.

Mr. Rwabwogo also expressed Uganda’s willingness to engage in discussions with the US on the matter.

  • Chad summons diplomat from Israel over Gaza conflict

Chad summons diplomat from Israel over Gaza conflict

Chad has summoned its Chargé d’Affaires in Israel for consultations in response to what it described as “unprecedented deadly violence in the Gaza Strip.”

The government expressed condemnation for the loss of innocent lives and urged a ceasefire that could lead to a lasting resolution of the Palestinian issue.

Chad, a predominantly Muslim nation, had severed diplomatic ties with Israel in 1972 but restored relations in 2019.

This move makes Chad the first African country to recall its envoy from Israel since the conflict began in October.

Several other nations, including Turkey, Chile, Bahrain, Honduras, Colombia, and Jordan, have also recalled their ambassadors from Israel in response to the ongoing violence.

  • Ola Michael lauds Mzbel for raising an intelligent boy

Ola Michael lauds Mzbel for raising an intelligent boy

In the aftermath statements made by Mzbel’s 10-year-old son, in which he expressed disbelief in God, a wave of criticism has emerged, questioning his upbringing and knowledge about religious matters.

Mzbel faced substantial backlash for not raising her child in a manner that aligns with conventional beliefs, particularly due to his remarks in a widely-discussed interview.

In contrast, celebrated filmmaker and entertainment analyst, Ola Michael, commended the musician for nurturing her child’s intelligence and fostering his confident public speaking skills at such a young age. According to Ola Michael, such qualities are rare among children his age.

“I think Mzbel has done well. I watched the footage several times and I was amazed. He [Mzbel’s son] made it clear that he is a single-parent kind of child. I did not hear him talking about his father in the interview… He mentions his mother’s name. So first of all, the woman [Mzbel] has done very well to train a 10-year-old boy to speak like that,” he said.

“When I was watching the interview at first I was paying attention to the way he speaks and I realized he is intelligent. So I was wondering where does he come from? And where did he learn all that from?” Ola Michael told MzGee on the United Showbiz programme monitored by GhanaWeb.

In a viral interview on social media, Mzbel’s 10-year-old son boldly expressed his disbelief in the existence of God and Jesus Christ, attributing his care to his mother.

These statements triggered significant backlash, but Mzbel staunchly defended her son’s position. She reinforced his declaration, asserting that there is no supreme deity.

“Yes! We don’t believe in the existence of an Almighty God, because we know that everything or anything that has a life no matter how big or small is a God, that is why when we pour libation (pray) we acknowledge and honor all those energies (God),” Mzbel wrote on her Instagram page.

She further explained that although the ancestors are no more, their blood runs through us which means they still influence humanity.

“Our ancestors are dead but their blood and spirit run through us, we are their DNA so we honor them too. You are all God’s…spend time with yourself in quietness, ask questions, and patiently wait for the answers from within you! You will be amazed.”

  • KPMG forecasts cedi resilience to early-year pressure in 2024

KPMG forecasts cedi resilience to early-year pressure in 2024

Renowned auditing and accounting firm, KPMG, anticipates a degree of stability for the Ghana cedi as the country prepares to receive the second installment of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan.

Partner for Deal Advisory at KPMG, Evans Asare, highlighted that the demonstrated resilience in recent times reflects an increasing level of confidence in the country’s economy.

“We see the local currency coming up strongly against the other major currencies due to some few certainties and confidence in the economy after some time now. We observed that the expected inflows from the second tranche of the International Monetary Fund’s programme are beginning to send positive signals and therefore going into 2024, I think the currency can withstand that early-year pressure,” he was quoted by the media

According to Evans Asare, Ghana’s growth rate may return to pre-COVID levels in 2024.

He said “It is expected that our projected Gross Domestic Growth target of 1.5 percent will double and grow above projections. We expect growth to return to pre-COVID-19 levels.”

During the mid-year budget review, Ghana’s growth rate underwent a downward revision, plummeting from 2.8% to a mere 1.5%. This marked a significant adjustment.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) similarly foresaw a GDP growth of 1.5% for Ghana in 2023, while the World Bank’s projection was slightly more optimistic, predicting 1.6% growth.

As of September 2023, the inflation rate remains elevated at 38.1%, posing economic challenges.

  • Urgent calls made by GAC to address funding gaps in HIV/AIDS treatment

Urgent calls made by GAC to address funding gaps in HIV/AIDS treatment

The Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC), Dr. Kyereme Atuahene, has emphasized the urgent need to address significant funding shortfalls in HIV and AIDS treatment within the country.

Over the past two decades, donor funding for Ghana’s HIV and AIDS response has dwindled from 75% to 33%, resulting in substantial funding gaps.

Dr. Atuahene stressed the importance of filling these gaps domestically to prevent any regression in the progress achieved.

He made these remarks during the media launch of the 2023 World AIDS Day, set to be observed on December 1, 2023, with the theme “Let Communities Lead.”

Twenty years ago, Ghana introduced Antiretroviral drugs for the treatment of HIV and AIDS, effectively reducing the viral load in affected individuals.

The introduction of Antiretroviral therapy (ART) over the past two decades has saved the lives of thousands of Ghanaians, increasing the number of individuals on ART from 9,790 in 2020 to 13,539 in 2022.

Dr. Atuahene highlighted the risk of losing the benefits of scientific advancements in ART if funding for drugs remains entirely dependent on donors. To address this, the government established the national HIV and AIDS fund to ensure adequate funding for the HIV response.

Consequently, the Commission initiated a resource mobilization campaign to encourage individuals and corporate entities in Ghana to contribute to the fund.

Dr. Leticia Adelaid Appiah, Executive Director of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), emphasized the continued global impact of HIV and AIDS, underscoring the importance of a collective societal approach in the HIV response.

Dr. Kweku Afriyie, Executive Oversight Minister at the Ghana AIDS Commission and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, acknowledged the need to address stigmatization and discrimination experienced by people living with HIV as barriers to achieving the United Nations’ 95-95-95 treatment target by 2025 and ending AIDS by 2030.

He added that “ending HIV/ AIDS is possible and it is within our grasp if we allow communities to lead with the right resources and support and commended all stakeholders, local and international, for their diverse roles in HIV and AIDS national response.”

Mrs. Linda Asante-Agyei, the Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), emphasized the importance of equipping the media with accurate information to empower communities to take the lead in their actions and achieve their objectives.

She said: “If communities will have to lead the agenda, then it means they have to be empowered and would need the role of the media to do this.

“Our doors are widely open, we will continue to support the GAC and stakeholders to succeed in this fight, we have done it before and we will continue doing it, all we need is for you to open your doors to us whenever we come to you looking for information.”
