“Your death will haunt me forever” – Aisha Modi over ‘son’s’ death

US-based Ghanaian socialite Ayisha Modi is grieving the death of a young man, Nii Adotey, over a land issue reportedly linked to her.

Nii Adotey is a land dealer who was killed on May 17.

Ayisha Modi took to social media to share her frustrations about Nii Adotey’s death.

She called him ‘a beloved son and little brother’ and apologised for not taking the threats on his life seriously.

“You died because of me, my dear beloved future King. This will haunt me for the rest of my life until I die. Don’t ever rest well until. Thank you for the note u left for me a few hours after we spoke last night. I am so sorry I didn’t take you seriously last night. Please, my Future king and lil brother, just watch the show and shut down,” Ayisha wrote in an Instagram post.

She further warned those responsible for her ‘son’s’ death to surrender before she exposes them. She issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the culprits.

Ayisha also called on the Police Service to probe the murder case.

“I am giving u 24 hours to report yourself. If I, Ayisha give a………. Ghana police just 24 hours if anything is done about this issue, I swear higher will shake the Whole of Accra. Jur you know who you have kum ????? This wasn’t a Mistake. CID do ur job well. We are not afraid of Guns nor Death, we have seen it all and that’s our area code!!.”

Meanwhile, a handwritten note retrieved from Nii Adotey’s room dated May 15 revealed he feared for his life, citing threats from an individual named Shamki.

“My life is in danger, and I can’t take it anymore. For the past two days, Shamaki has been posting threats and lies about me. The only issue I have with him is the Aisha Modi land,” the note read.

Nii Adotey also mentioned the individual allegedly responsible for his death in the letter.

While alive, the land dealer related to Sempe Mantse Nii Adotey Otintor II was an executive at Afro-Arab Properties, a real estate development agency with brand ambassadors like Shatta Bandle.

  • I’ll not succumb to societal pressure to get married because I’m aging – Actress Nwago

I’ll not succumb to societal pressure to get married because I’m aging – Actress Nwago

Nigerian actress Ebube Nwagbo has shared her opinion on societal pressure mounted on singles to get married.

According to a post shared by Africa Glitz on X, the 42-year-old actress says she will not succumb to expectations from friends, family, and the general public against her own happiness.

“I’m not in a rush to marry. No one—family, friends, or social media—can make me feel ashamed or left behind. I’m 42, and that’s fine,” African Glitz quoted the actress as having said.

The actress says she is not ready to entangle herself with a lifetime decision that may not end well due to desperation.

“I’ve seen people marry at 25, only to walk away years later, bruised and broken. Some came out of it depressed, lost, and silent. The pain they carry… it’s too much. Society sees none of that until it’s too late. Then they start pretending to care,” she reportedly said.

Ebube has emphasized she prefers to wait for a love that brings her peace rather than chaos.

“I want peace, not pressure. I want love, not wounds. I want a home, not a cage.”

She has boldly declared that she would rather choose to remain unmarried at 42 than to trade her peace of mind and joy for societal expectation.

“Marriage should feel like breathing, not drowning. I won’t enter a marriage just to impress people or meet a deadline. No deadline is worth my peace of mind. I want something real. And if that takes time, so be it. It’s better to walk in late and whole than rush in early and come out shattered.”

Ebube is a renowned actress from Nigeria, a producer, model and entrepreneur.

She has featured in over 150 Nollywood films, including notable titles like “Arrested by Love, Widow’s Cult, and The Evil Queen.

Apart from acting, Ebube is a successful entrepreneur who owns a hair salon named PoshHair and runs an entertainment company called PoshWorld Production.

  • Dada KD’s “I’ll join you all too soon” post in 2020 resurfaces after his death

Dada KD’s “I’ll join you all too soon” post in 2020 resurfaces after his death

The passing of Ghanaian highlife legend, Dada Kwaku Duah, known in music as Dada KD, has been linked to a post he shared in 2020 while eulogizing late Bishop Bernard Nyarko on Facebook.

“May your gentle soul find you a perfect place to keep you, Bishop Bernard Nyarko. My regards to Kofi B and tell him it won’t be long; I’ll join you all too soon. Our industry sucks,” the highlife legend shared on Facebook.

For all these years, the message was considered a raw expression of grief.

However, fans are revisiting the post and viewing it as a prediction of his death 5 years on.

Dada KD died on May 16 at the age of 56, according to his family.

He was celebrated for his seamless contributions to Ghanaian music.

In 2004, he was honoured as the Best Male Vocal Artist at the 2004 Ghana Music Awards, UK.

Meanwhile, friends and sympathizers await the announcement of plans for his burial by the family.

Further revelations from his manager, Clarence Kenneth Ekow Peterson, known in showbiz circles as King Pee, suggest that Dada KD could have survived if he hadn’t been turned away by three health facilities due to absent doctors.

Although King Pee did not mention these hospitals, he noted that Dada KD was eventually admitted to a facility in Gbawe.

Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after a doctor attended to him upon arrival.

King Pee made it known during an interview on Adom FM morning news that the facility in which Dada KD lost his life was the fourth after attempts to seek medical care from the first three failed.

Asked whether the late musician suffered any sickness, King Pee noted that he complained of mild malaria symptoms earlier in the day but remained relatively stable.

His condition, however, worsened unexpectedly, prompting an urgent rush to nearby hospitals.

“We did everything we could. He was strong in the morning, but things changed so quickly. Sadly, he couldn’t survive,” King Pee told Baffour Owiredu Amoh.

Carry out thorough inspection of churches selling unapproved sobolo – Diana Asamoah to FDA

Ghanaian gospel musician Diana Asamoah has called on the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to carry out a thorough inspection of churches that allow the sale of unapproved sobolo as the “blood of Jesus” to congregants.

During an interview on Angel FM, the gospel musician explained that several individuals have developed health problems, such as diabetes, after consuming such unapproved products.

“Some pastors market sobolo as ‘blood’ despite the FDA not having tested it for safety. I am appealing to the FDA to carry out thorough inspections in churches to ensure these items are safe for consumption,” she said.

She further called on pastors to also roll out a system where doctors run tests on individuals before they are permitted to sell in church.

“Before selling sobolo or similar items, pastors should have medical doctors test their members’ health to confirm the product’s suitability,” she added.

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned against the sale of unregistered products in the country.

It has urged individuals and enterprises to regularize their activities in accordance with Section 130 of the Public Health Act 2012, Act 851.

The said section states that “A person shall not manufacture for sale, sell, supply or store products under this part except in premises registered for that purpose under this part.”

Shatta Wale flew me to Ghana after Stonebwoy refused – Peller

Nigerian content creator, Peller, has revealed that Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, flew him to Ghana in April because dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, declined his request.

According to Peller, he initially reached out to Stonebwoy on TikTok to bring him to Ghana, but Stonebwoy gave him reasons he couldn’t do that for him at the time.

Fortunately for him, he reached out to Shatta Wale, who agreed and flew him to Ghana eventually.

“I first interacted with him on TikTok livestream, where I told him I wanted him to bring me to Ghana, but he said he was in America for a show. Then I asked him to fly me there in a private jet, but he said it was too late.”

Peller shared this information during a live video session with Rudeboy, one half of the Nigerian music duo P-Square, while the two were discussing Rudeboy’s new song, which features Stonebwoy.

During the conversation, Peller was asked if he knows Stonebwoy, but his response was, “Stonebwoy is fighting me.

Peller was in Ghana for the first time on Thursday, April 10, after Shatta Wale revealed he had plans to host him.

He was warmly welcomed at the airport by Shatta Wale’s manager, Sammy Flex, and other members of the team.

Many Ghanaians took to social media to talk about Peller’s arrival, with the news stirring a lot of excitement online.

Don’t fight critics on social media, pray for God’s mercy – Councilor Charlotte advises

Marriage counsellor and media personality, Charlotte Oduro, has advised individuals who have suffered humiliation on social media not to retaliate against evil plotters and critics on social media.

While several inferences can be drawn from her comment, The Independent Ghana cannot confirm the specific event that prompted this advice.

She explained that Jesus also endured difficult times at the hands of people, yet all he did was to pray for God’s mercy on them.

Drawing inspiration from this, she encouraged individuals facing similar experiences to remain calm and prayerful.

“They may have the upper hand today. The same thing happened to Jesus. They thought they had beaten and crucified him… The same people he gave his life to were the same people who mocked him.

“He endured and kept quiet and went to the cross… Learn this from Jesus. Let the whole world speak against you and tell God to have mercy,” she added.

  • I’ll never feel too big for Charterhouse, they groomed me – Nana Akua Addo

I’ll never feel too big for Charterhouse, they groomed me – Nana Akua Addo

Ghanaian fashion icon Nana Akua Addo has rubbished assertions by Ghanaians that she is self-conceited and thus does not want to associate with events organized by Charterhouse.

This comes after she was seen gracing the just-ended 2025 African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) but was not seen at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

As a result, a section of Ghanaians criticized her, stating that she values foreign red carpet events more than Ghana’s.

Addressing the matter in an interview on 3FM, Nana Akua Addo stated, “Charterhouse for me is home, Charterhouse gave me the first platform to fame, they groomed me to become the woman I am, I can never take that space for granted,” she said.

Nana Akua Addo made it clear that no matter how big her brand becomes, she will never feel too important to attend an event organised by Charterhouse.

“There will be no day that Charterhouse will invite me, and I will feel I am bigger, never. The relationship I have with Charterhouse is personal, they have groomed me for who I am, and I can never take that for granted,” she stated.

The fashion icon leveraged the opportunity to charge Ghanaian event organizers to take their red-carpet event a notch higher in the country.

“Our space, that is, coming on the red carpet, has come of age where organisers need to think about how to select certain people they want on the red carpet and also pay attention to the appearance fee because whatever we do, we have to pay these vendors,” she added.

  • Never compare your husband to another man – Vickee James advises

Never compare your husband to another man – Vickee James advises

Nigerian fashion designer Veekee James has advised young ladies never to compare their husbands to other men.

In a video on Instagram, Veekee was seen holding a microphone and advising her sister-in-law during her bridal shower.

“Never compare your husband to any other man. I don’t care who that man is or what he has, you should not even allow the devil to put such a thought into your head,” she warned.

There are many distinct opinions on comparison. Some schools of thought believe that since each individual has their capabilities, comparing would be flawed. Others, however, believe that comparing ensures individuals are on their toes in ensuring they progress in life.

She also advised her in-law that under no circumstances should she deny her husband sex in their marriage, stating that tiredness is not an acceptable excuse.

“Don’t deny your husband sex. Sometimes you can be tired, too tired that you cannot move; sometimes you are exhausted, and the last thing you want is for someone to touch you, but my sister, just lie down and opens her legs,” she said.

Her views on a sex lifestyle remain her opinion.

I am here to serve and not lord over you like Okraku-Mantey – KOD

Presidential Advisor on Diasporan Affairs Kofi Okyere Darko, popularly known as KOD, has pledged to serve in humility, emphasizing that he will not project himself as better than other creatives in the industry.

He stated that unlike the former Deputy Creative Arts Minister, Mark Okraku-Mantey, he won’t let his new role get into his head or make him feel superior and difficult to engage with.

“I cannot use my role to act like I’m above my colleagues in the creative space. I don’t see myself as more important than them. Just because I have security officers around me or people opening doors for me doesn’t mean I’m better than the ordinary Ghanaian. These privileges are just there to help me do my job better, for the people,” he explained.

He emphasised that Okraku-Mantey’s recent public comments stem from the same sense of entitlement he carried while in office.

“The reason Mark Okraku-Mantey is talking the way he is now is because when he was appointed, he thought he was a lord. He didn’t see himself as a servant. But by God’s grace, some of us are here now, and we will serve the people with humility. We won’t act like we’re above anyone,” KOD concluded.

KOD assumed his new role through an appointment by President John Mahama to serve members of the creative industry.

He became well-known in Ghana as a radio and TV presenter, with many people recognizing his voice and face in the media.

He worked with reputable stations like Live FM, ETV Ghana, and GhOne, where he hosted popular programs and became a familiar name in many homes.

Aside from media, KOD is also admired for his fashion sense.

We’ll probe how Felicia Osei presented a used ticket at 2025 TGMAs – Chatterhouse

Head of Public Events and Communications at Chatterhouse Productions Ltd, Rovert Klah, has stated that his team will investigate how Ghanaian TikToker, Felicia Osei presented a used ticket at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

Felicia Osei, who doubles as a media personality, revealed on social media that she was denied entry into the TGMAs auditorium because her ticket had already been used by an unknown individual who came in earlier than her.

As a result, she returned home without showcasing the glamour she had dressed up in for the event.

Reacting to this, Mr Klah rendered an apology to the young lady and assured her that Chatterhouse would probe the matter and get to the bottom of it.

“So, sorry to her for whatever embarrassment she may have faced, but it’s one of three things. And for us, there is a need for us to be able to investigate, to understand what it is, so that we are clean and clear on how to go forward without having an issue. So, apologies to her if she felt any embarrassment, but these are the realities on ground that it could also be any of the three things that I’ve mentioned,” he told Felicia Osei during an interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim.

  • I told Kwaku Smoke he’s going to blow, and he’s blown – Archipalago

I told Kwaku Smoke he’s going to blow, and he’s blown – Archipalago

Ghanaian musician and social media personality, Archipalago, has declared himself a prophet.

He attributes his self-acclaimed title to a prediction he made that Kumasi-based rapper, Kwaku Smoke, will make it in the music industry, and that has come to pass.

“I’m a prophet because I see things and I have intuition. So whenever I say something, it comes to pass—that’s why I was telling them about Kweku Smoke. I told him he’s going to blow, and he’s blown, and his [success] is outstanding,” Archipalago said during an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Changes show.

Kwaku Smoke’s song titled “Holy Ghost” won him the Best Rap Performance award while he lost Artiste of the Year award to King Promise in this year’s TGMAs.

During the interview, Archipalago also revealed that he made it to the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) without a ticket.

He mentioned that he was positive about being allowed to enter the auditorium of the event, though he didn’t know how.

However, the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, helped him to get access to the event.

“When I got there, I knew I would be permitted to enter because I’m Archipalago. But when I got there, it wasn’t like that. So I told my homeboy I went with that he should wait for me to get a ticket and enter the auditorium and see what will happen. That was even a prophecy I told my boy.”

However, that became known to sveral Nigerians after his released three songs.

Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur, Fella Makafui, has revealed that her ex-husband and rapper, Medikal, lacked the courage to stand by her during her caesarean section.

Speaking to Pulse Ghana in an interview, the divorcee mentioned that she was advised by her doctors to undergo the procedure because they noticed her baby (now Island) could not turn well enough in her womb.

Hoping for emotional support through the process, Fella said the doctors asked Medikal, who was her husband at the time, to stand by her in the same room as the caesarean section was being done.

But according to Fella, Medikal could not endure the experience of being present during the period.

“My partner then was asked to be inside but I think he was scared so he was outside, and they just rushed the baby to him. It was a very good experience,” she said.

According to Fella, she went through hell during her pregnancy journey.

She said she used to even cough up blood.

“The first 3 months were hell for me, I was literally sick. I lost weight because I had zero appetite. I could cough and cough blood, it was that bad. Along the line, I had to do CS because Island couldn’t turn well. I didn’t want to do CS, I wanted to deliver a normal birth, but I had no choice,” she stated.

Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur, Fella Makafui, has disclosed that she used to cough up blood during the first 3 months of her pregnancy journey.

This was when she was pregnant with her daughter, Island.

According to her, she went through challenging moments, including losing weight drastically because she lost her appetite for food.

“The first 3 months were hell for me, I was literally sick. I lost weight because I had zero appetite. I could cough and cough blood, it was that bad. Along the line, I had to do CS because Island couldn’t turn well. I didn’t want to do CS, I wanted to deliver a normal birth, but I had no choice,” she told Pulse Ghana during an interview.

Adding that “I was actually awake throughout the process, I was seeing myself because of the CS. I had 2 doctors, one on my left and one on my right. I could just feel myself moving, like they are forcing something to come out, but I wasn’t feeling any pain. The doctors kept asking if I was okay?”

She also revealed that she underwent a caesarean section when her doctors told her the baby was unable to turn well in her womb.

Describing the process, Fella said she was fully conscious and saw everything with her own eyes during the procedure.

She felt no pain, but she could detect that the doctors were forcing something out of her stomach.

“The funny part was, I turned myself to watch the other nurse on my left side, that’s when I saw this mirror and I saw my stomach, then I panicked because it was so scary and traumatising. I didn’t know that’s what was going on so it was scary and I think a few minute later, I heard the baby’s cry. I remember that I was just crying especially when they brought Island. My partner then was asked to be inside but I think he was scared so he was outside, and they just rushed the baby to him. It was a very good experience,” she said.

Fella Makafui is an actress and a young lady who came into the limelight through a TV series titled ” Yolo.”

She got married to rapper Medikal in the year 2020 but the marriage could not survive in the 4th year.

Their separation came with one daughter called Island, who is currently in the care of Fella Makafui.

  • Register excavators or lose them effective June 1 – DVLA warns owners, operators

Register excavators or lose them effective June 1 – DVLA warns owners, operators

Excavator owners and operators who fail to register their machines with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) within two weeks risk losing them to the state, as the government intensifies efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, issued the directive in Accra, warning that effective June 1, any excavator not registered with the DVLA will be confiscated.

Speaking at a press briefing, Mr. Kotey announced that the Ghana Police Service and the DVLA’s operational team will begin nationwide enforcement after the deadline, arresting and impounding excavators being used at mining sites or for commercial purposes without proper documentation.

“This exercise will help identify every excavator that enters the country and trace how it is being used. The goal is to ensure we can monitor and hold people accountable,” Mr. Kotey said.

The directive falls in line with Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 2004 (Act 683), which mandates the registration of all motor vehicles and trailers, including farm and heavy-duty equipment. Despite the law, the DVLA has found many unregistered excavators operating in mining areas, some of which have been used in illegal activities.

Mr. Kotey emphasized that the DVLA, with its 34 offices nationwide, has the capacity to register all excavators and farm machinery within the two-week period and is ready to strictly enforce the directive.

He stressed the environmental toll caused by unregulated excavator use in illegal mining, saying, “Excavators in the hands of illegal miners have worsened the destruction of our environment. This is why we must act.”

To further control the situation, the DVLA, in collaboration with key agencies like the Minerals Commission, National Security, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has started tagging all newly imported excavators.

In addition to tagging new imports, the Minerals Commission has been tasked to lead a team that will tag all excavators already in the country. Legal small-scale mining sites have also been geo-fenced, with their site coordinates integrated into the Ghana Mine Repository and Tracking software for better oversight.

The move is part of broader government efforts to combat illegal mining. Just last month, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah announced the rollout of a system to monitor excavator imports and usage, involving port tagging and digital tracking in partnership with several state agencies.

The third most valuable item imported into this country is excavators, and it is worth GHC6.2 billion, according to the sector minister.

The joint Military-Forestry Commission task force that conducted targeted operations in high-risk districts across the Ashanti, Western, and Western North Regions led to the seizure of 100 excavators, three bulldozers, and four vehicles.

  • Ghana’s non-traditional export falls by 2.87% to $3.83bn in 2024

    Ghana’s non-traditional export falls by 2.87% to $3.83bn in 2024

Ghana’s non-traditional export earnings for the year 2024 have slightly declined, according to the 2024 annual NTEs Statistics report by the Ghana Exports Promotion Authority (GEPA).

According to the authority, Ghana recorded non-traditional exports (NTE) earnings of $3.83 billion in 2024, marking a 2.87% dip in earnings compared to 2023.

At the launch of the 2024 annual NTEs Statistics report, Chief Executive of GEPA, Francis Kojo Kwarteng Arthur, attributed the decline to a reduction in exports of iron and steel to the ECOWAS region.

“In 2024, Ghana’s NTEs recorded earnings of $3.83 billion, reaching 152 countries; however, we registered encouraging gains in several other sectors,” he mentioned.

Most of the export earnings came from manufactured and semi-processed goods, which made up over 83% of the total.

Cocoa paste made a strong impact, increasing by over 35% because many buyers in Europe and North America wanted it. This points to Ghana’s growing success in processing raw cocoa into higher-value products that bring in more income.

The agricultural sector also saw growth, contributing 13.48% to total earnings. Meanwhile, products from the arts and crafts industry grew by nearly 23%, showing that international markets are increasingly interested in Ghana’s creative and cultural goods.

Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry Samson Ahi encouraged businesses to focus on adding value to their products to boost exports.

In 2023, Ghana achieved nearly $4 billion in non-traditional exports, marking an 11% increase from the $3.53 billion recorded in 2022.

    Ghana’s non-traditional exports (NTEs) for 2022 increased by $200,730,646, from $3,330,317,588 in 2021 to $3,531,048,234.

GEPA said it plans to roll out more support and initiatives, including the Accelerated Export Development Programme, to help improve export performance in the coming years.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated an 18-member Presidential Committee on Accelerated Export Development.

The committee, which includes President Mahama, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and other key stakeholders, is tasked with driving Ghana’s export agenda to boost foreign exchange earnings and economic growth. The newly established Accelerated Export Development Committee (AEDC) is expected to drive Ghana’s non-traditional export earnings from the current $3.5 billion to an ambitious $10 billion annually by 2030.

“Through the Accelerated Export Development Programme, the Advisory Committee, and the National Export Development Strategy, our goal is to raise Ghana’s non-traditional export earnings from $3.5 billion annually to at least $10 billion by 2030,” President Mahama stated.

Yaw Dabo appeals to President Mahama for Bole Bamboi Road construction

Popular Kumawood actor, Yaw Dabo, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to fix the deplorable roads at Bole Bamboi in the Northern Region.

Yaw Dapo is seen in a video sighted by the Independent Ghana on X, leading some constituents in the Bole area to appeal to the president to fix the roads.

He reminded the president that Bole is his hometown and, for that reason, he shouldn’t need much convincing to address the community’s concerns.

“We are here in Bole, and it’s not easy at all. And all we are asking from our father, John Mahama is this: Papa, this is your hometown. Don’t listen to anyone. Come and fix the Bole road. Bole is a lively place to be. So, please improve the roads so we can visit more easily and enjoy all that Bole has to offer.”

The call was earlier made by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Daffiama/Bussie/Issa, Dr. Sebastian Sandaare, who has appealed for an urgent rehabilitation of the Wa-Bole-Techiman road to allow easier movement and boost economic growth.

He also highlighted that the current state of the road network continues to pose severe challenges and hardships to commuters and communities along it.

“The road is characterised by large and deep potholes, weak culverts and completely dusty as all the coal is removed. The implications are innumerable. The safety and security of commuters is greatly compromised as they are subjects of frequent and indiscriminate armed robbery attacks and in some unfortunate situation resulting in deaths,” he said.

  • Ghana’s film industry can’t be compared to Nigeria’s – KSM

Ghana’s film industry can’t be compared to Nigeria’s – KSM

Renowned Ghanaian filmmaker and comedian, Kwaku Simtim-Misa, widely known as KSM, has offered a candid assessment of Ghana’s movie industry, stressing that it cannot yet be compared to the Nigerian film industry in terms of growth, structure, and contribution.

Speaking on The Career Trail program on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, KSM said that while Ghana is blessed with talented filmmakers and promising content, the absence of a sustainable and efficient system continues to hinder the industry’s growth.

“Unfortunately, it is still a growing industry. We can’t compare the film industry in Ghana to that of Nigeria. The Nigerians have had a longer time of being exposed to making films. And the more they make them, the better they get. The more they produce, the more they devise ways of distributing them. Eventually, you realize you’ve developed a system that works for you,” KSM stated.

On the other hand, he said Ghana’s film industry is still trying to find its feet.

Most filmmakers struggle to raise money at every stage, from writing the story, shooting the film, paying actors, to finally getting the movie out there for people to watch.

“Somebody will hustle to make money, then hustle to pay for the film. And after paying for the film, the actors, and everyone else involved, they now have to hustle again just to distribute the film. There are no proper distribution outlets,” he lamented.

Ghana’s film industry, once vibrant in the CD/DVD era, now struggles with structure, funding, and proper distribution.

Unlike Nigeria’s Nollywood, which has grown into a globally recognized industry through consistent production, strong distribution networks, and digital platforms, Ghana’s sector remains largely informal.

Filmmakers often self-fund and face hurdles getting their movies widely seen.

While a few initiatives and talented individuals are pushing forward, veteran filmmaker KSM says the lack of a solid system continues to limit growth and makes it difficult to compare Ghana’s industry with Nigeria.

In a video that has since gone viral, Nicole demanded the return of her missing luggage and a refund, stating, “how could I possibly be here in Accra while my bag is in Kumasi?”

“This is unacceptable! I don’t care how you resolve it or where you have to fetch it from – I need my bag back and I want my money,” she added.

Nicole’s confrontation with airline staff followed a more than six-hour delay, which led to her missing the awards ceremony entirely.

Upon landing in Accra, she discovered that her luggage had mistakenly been sent to Kumasi, further compounding her frustration.

The actress, known for her past relationship with comic actor Funny Face, expressed outrage at what she described as poor treatment of passengers and a lack of communication from the airline.

DKB explains why NDC supporters are against Sammy Gyamfi’s $800 gift to Agradaa

Popular comedian Derick Kobina Bonney, alias DKB, has asserted that the outrage among NDC foot soldiers over Sammy Gyamfi’s $800 gift is less about the money and more about who received it.

He believes many within the party who have toiled for its progress wish they could receive the same amount or more to start their businesses.

According to him, it’s painful for such individuals to see that the money ended up in the hands of someone they consider underserving.

“I mean, if you are a foot soldier, you have worked hard for the party and are waiting for an appointment or something. The amount of money he gave her could start your business. You won’t be happy with that. You understand me?”

Meanwhile, there have been growing calls for Sammy Gyamfi to be penalized or removed from office following the viral video incident.

Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have publicly demaded his dismissal, citing concerns over the image and intergrity of public office .

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah has invited him for questioning and many Ghanaians are closely watching to see what disciplinary actions, if any, will be taken against the Ghana Gold Board CEO.

The problem is not Sammy Gyamfi, it’s Agradaa – DKB

Popular comedian Derick Kobina Bonney, alias DKB has shared his opinion on the ongoing Sammy Gyamfi-Agradaa dollar controversey, stating that Ghanaians are reacting furiously over the matter because Agradaa is involved.

According to him, netizens have no problem with Sammy Gyamfi’s act of giving but the individual he gave to.

This is due to several attacks that were leveled against memebers of the National Democratic Congress during their time in opposition.

Thus, the party’s foot soldiers are asserting that Agradaa is not deserving of Sammy Gyamfi’s kindness when loyal party members are struggling.

“Look, I think the main reason why Ghanaians are angry is not because Sammy Gyamfi gave our dollar to anybody. It is because it was Agradaa, and the fact that he associated with Agradaa. Because we witnessed what she did to John Mahama’s name…she desecrated it…and the fact that he is not going to come to power and all those negative things. So it hurts to see NDC people see Sammy Gyamfi give money to such a person.”

He added that: “No bad intentions anyway. I mean, if you are a foot soldier, you have worked hard for the party and are waiting for an appointment or something. The amount of money he gave her could start your business. You won’t be happy with that. You understand me? So it is because it is Agradaa…If it were someone else, it would have been an easy case. Because the painful thing is that they have given Agradaa the dollars you wish you had. And she is not the type who will keep quiet. She will bluff you with the money, too.”

Meanwhile, there have been growing calls for Sammy Gyamfi to be penalized or removed from office following the viral video incident.

I met my wife in 2018 at a funeral – Hopeson Adorye

Member of the Movement for Change, Hopeson Adorye, has revealed that he met his wife, Empress Gifty Adorye, at a funeral in the year 2018.

He made this known during their TikTok live session after Mrs Adorye clinched the ‘Best Traditional Gospel Song’ award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

“I met my wife in 2018 at a funeral. A friend of my father had passed, and I was invited to the ceremony. At the event, my friend told me Empress Gifty was around. I joked that I was actually looking for her. When we were introduced, the moment she shook my hand, I didn’t want to let go,” Mr Adorye shared.

Mr Adorye added that he was initially hesitant to pursue Empress Gifty after noticing a ring on her finger.

However, it appears they connected well despite his initial reservations.

Adding more context to the story, Empress Gifty disclosed that she had to return a car gift she received from Mr Adorye at a point in time in their marriage.

According to her, it was after she returned the car that Mr Adorye took a decisive step, visiting her family to formally ask for her hand in marriage.

“When he gave me the car, I took it home and told my mother. I also told her I was interested in marriage, not just dating. My mother told me clearly, ‘if it’s marriage you want, return the car.’ I listened to her advice and returned it,” she stated.

She said her decision to return the car turned out to be a turning point in their relationship.

“Just two days after returning the car, he came to my house and asked for my hand in marriage. That’s when we proceeded with the traditional ceremony. Sometimes, when you meet someone, don’t let material things cloud your judgment. Focus on building a future together,” she said.

Renowned Ghanaian satirist and social commentator Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, has praised Sammy Gyamfi’s intellect but cautioned that intelligence alone does not guarantee effective leadership.

Reacting to a viral video in which the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board is seen counting and handing over $800 to a controversial Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, known as Nana Agradaa, KSM expressed concern over the optics of the act.

“He’s a very, very intelligent person. But all of that does not mean that you understand the ingredients that make leadership work. Show her class. It’s not arrogance,” he said.

He entreated the GoldBod CEO and other young political leaders to recognise the need for class and discipline, especially in their new positions.

“It’s not arrogance. That’s the level that you are. Please don’t take leadership for granted and say, ‘Oh, me, I am a man of the people.’ But levels must be maintained,” he advised.

You failed to show a sense of responsibility and focus – KSM tells Sammy Gyamfi

Renowned Ghanaian comedian and social commentator Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, has criticized Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, over a viral video that captured him giving money to Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

According to KSM, public figures must demonstrate a sense of responsibility and focus, especially when interacting with controversial personalities.

He suggested that such gestures even if well-intentioned, should be handled more discreetly to avoid misinterpretation.

“You can still be a people person. You can still respect people. But at the very worst, tell the person to call your PA and then come to the office. That shows you have a certain level of responsibility and focus,” he advised.
KSM explained that as a public official, Sammy Gyamfi must be mindful of the optics and the impact of his actions on public trust.

“To Sammy Gyamfi and others who say that there was nothing wrong with what he did, maybe you’re right. But the optics are not good,” he said.

He illustrated his point by saying that if Sammy Gyamfi had helped a vulnerable patient at a hospital, such as someone unable to affor medical bills, the public would have likely applauded him.

“But the optics of Sammy Gyamfi dashing a woman called Agradaa, who has been seen notoriously on record bashing the NDC. Its not good,” KSM stressed.

Enforce road traffic law by May 19 or face protest – Transport Operators caution Police

Transport operators in Ghana have issued a stern warning to the government and the Ghana Police Service, demanding immediate enforcement of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), particularly those relating to trading on roads and pavements.

They have given authorities until Monday, May 19, to act or face a nationwide protest. According to the operators, the growing encroachment of roads and pavements by traders poses serious safety risks and disrupts the free flow of traffic.

They argue that while commercial drivers are expected to comply with strict transport regulations, traders continue to operate with impunity, defying the laws without consequence.

In a statement, the transport unions described the current situation as unjust and unsustainable. “We, the transport operators, are deeply concerned about the indiscriminate trading on roads and pavements. Despite the existence of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), enforcement has been weak, allowing traders to continue obstructing roads and endangering lives,” the statement said.

The operators are calling on the relevant authorities, including the Ministries of Transport, Roads and Highways, Local Government and Religious Affairs, Trade and Industry, and the Interior, to collaborate and restore order.

They also invited these ministries to join them in a symbolic march to advocate for safer and more organized roads.

“If nothing meaningful is done by May 19, we will have no option but to park our vehicles in protest. This is not just about the inconvenience caused to drivers; it is about the safety of all road users and the urgent need for designated trading and parking spaces,” the group emphasized.

They stressed that the intended protest is not to create chaos but to demand accountability and action. “We seek a collaborative solution that promotes safety, order, and economic activity. All we ask is for the law to be enforced fairly and consistently.”

The transport operators’ call adds to growing public pressure on authorities to implement existing laws meant to regulate urban activity and reduce road accidents caused by unauthorized street trading.

Under Ghana’s Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), specific provisions prohibit trading activities that obstruct pedestrian and vehicular movement.

These regulations are designed to ensure the safety and free flow of traffic on public roads and pavements.

Under Regulation 117 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), it is an offence for any person to engage in trading activities in certain areas that pose a risk to public safety or obstruct the smooth flow of traffic.

According to the law, a person shall not sell goods, display goods, offer goods for sale, or deliver goods as part of a sale on or alongside a road. A person shall also not sell or display goods on a pedestrian walkway. In addition, a person is prohibited from selling, displaying, offering for sale, or delivering goods within thirty metres of a railway level crossing.

The law further prohibits such activities under a road traffic sign that indicates a blind corner or a rise. It is also an offence to engage in these trading activities within an intersection. Lastly, the law forbids trading on or alongside any road, including areas around a toll booth and a toll plaza.

Any person who violates the above restrictions commits an offence. Upon summary conviction, the person is liable to pay a fine not exceeding fifty penalty units or serve a term of imprisonment not exceeding three months, or both.

This regulation is designed to safeguard the safety of all road users and ensure that trading activities do not interfere with traffic or endanger lives.

Transport operators are urging authorities to enforce this regulation to address the challenges posed by

  • Fisheries Commission’s Governing Council set up to crackdown on unreported, unregulated fishing activities

Fisheries Commission’s Governing Council set up to crackdown on unreported, unregulated fishing activities

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has inaugurated the Governing Council of the Fisheries Commission with a firm mandate to scale up the fight against Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing activities in Ghana’s waters.

This development comes at a critical time when Ghana is facing increased international scrutiny over its fisheries management practices. The European Commission has issued a “yellow card” warning to Ghana, signaling the country’s potential classification as non-cooperative in the global fight against IUU fishing.

While the yellow card does not yet carry trade restrictions, prolonged non-compliance could lead to a red card, which would bar Ghana from exporting fishery products to the European Union market.

To avoid such sanctions and restore international confidence, the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, outlined a number of decisive actions at the inauguration of the Commission’s new board. These include delisting non-compliant vessels and strengthening enforcement across the industry.

“This is not just an administrative appointment—it is a national calling,” the Minister told the newly sworn-in council. “Our sector feeds millions, employs thousands, and has the potential for economic transformation. We must pursue a sustainable, well-governed, and resilient fisheries and aquaculture sector that delivers food security, decent jobs, and economic growth.”

As part of reforms, the Ministry is also preparing to reintroduce a revised fisheries law after the previous legislation failed to gain parliamentary approval. The new legal framework is expected to align Ghana’s policies with international commitments and improve governance within the sector.

Chairperson of the newly constituted Council, Professor Wisdom Akpalu, acknowledged that the fisheries sector has suffered setbacks over the years, making it vulnerable to IUU activities. He emphasized the need for urgent reforms, especially in monitoring, control, and surveillance.

One of the major issues flagged includes illegal transshipment at sea, involving juvenile pelagic species exchanged between industrial trawlers and local canoes—activities that breach both local and international regulations.

Meanwhile, the sector minister has recounted her meeting at the World Bank Office in Accra to discuss key strategies for advancing Ghana’s fisheries sector on Monday.

“We focused on job creation, coastal infrastructure development, and promoting gender empowerment in our coastal communities. I am grateful for the World Bank’s commitment to supporting our initiatives and their willingness to collaborate on a shared development vision,” she wrote in a post on Facebook.

She welcomed the proposal for further technical engagement to solidify project plans.

The World Bank’s job creation agenda aligns with the Ministry’s goals, particularly in developing Ghana’s aquaculture industry and creating sustainable livelihoods for women and youth in coastal areas.

Hon. Emelia Arthur has noted that international partners like Bloomberg and Oceana are supporting the data gathering efforts, which will inform our policy and project planning.

“With increased investment and technical support, I’m confident we can unlock the full potential of our fisheries sector and drive sustainable growth in our coastal regions,” she added.

  • Govt to establish University of Agriculture and Life Sciences in Kintampo – Education Minister

Govt to establish University of Agriculture and Life Sciences in Kintampo – Education Minister

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced plans by the government to set up a new tertiary institution, the University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, in Kintampo in the Bono East Region.

According to the minister, the institution will support agricultural modernization and provide higher opportunities in education for the region.

Speaking at the official inauguration of the Governing Council of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies on May 12, the sector minister explained that the bill to establish the university will be laid before parliament once it reconvenes.

The move, he said, forms part of the government’s broader effort to expand tertiary education and ensure that every region in the country has at least one public university.

“It is the desire of the government that every region of Ghana will be host to one higher education institution of learning. It is the dream and desire of President Mahama that in each region there will be an established university,” he indicated..

Ghana’s agriculture sector, though vital to the economy, has faced slow progress in modernisation, with limited investment in research and innovation. This, experts argue, continues to impact food security and national productivity.

The planned university is expected to respond to these challenges by focusing on specialised training, cutting-edge research, and innovation in agricultural science and life sciences. It will also equip the youth with practical skills to thrive in the evolving agricultural landscape.

Mr. Iddrisu also touched on infrastructure challenges facing existing institutions. He noted that the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies had not seen any major support since its establishment.

“SD Dombo has not seen any significant support, in terms of infrastructure. I am happy to announce that this year, the government through the GETFund will make available some seed money for SD Dombo University as part of President Mahama’s quest to support the institution to grow,” he said.

Chairman of the newly inaugurated Governing Council, Dr. Benjamin Kumbour, described the announcement as timely and pledged to engage private stakeholders and the local community to contribute to the university’s development.

“We on our part will also try private initiatives and see how the local community of the region will also be encouraged to bring their contributions to develop the university,” he assured.

The government says it remains committed to creating more educational opportunities, especially in underrepresented regions, to empower the next generation of professionals and innovators.

Meanwhile, President Mahama is preparing to introduce a new bill in Parliament to rename the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) and several other public universities across the country.

The Minister for Education made the announcement during the swearing-in ceremony of the Governing Council of CKT-UTAS in Accra. The university’s name has drawn mixed reactions from the public, with some stakeholders opposing it from the beginning.

This move forms part of a broader initiative to review and potentially rename several public universities established or renamed during the tenure of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“We have had extensive consultations with the academic community, traditional rulers, alumni associations, students, and civil society. As a result, the name C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences is likely to change—possibly reverting to the original vision.

“There will be a general bill to consider the renaming of several public universities that were renamed or established during former President Akufo-Addo’s administration,” Mr Haruna stated.

$800 could’ve been given to Buz Stop Boys – Worlasi on Sammy Gyamfi-Agradaa saga

Ghanaian musician Worlasi has lashed out at the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, over a viral video in which he is seen handing $800 to controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa.

In a post on X, the singer expressed deep frustration with the incident, questioning why such an amount was gifted to Agradaa instead of being channeled into meaningful efforts like supporting the volunteer sanitation group, the Buz Stop Boys.

“People are out there doing things in the name of Ghana, trying to put the name of Ghana out there. The Buz Stop Boys are there cleaning the country, but you took money to give Agradaa?” he said.

Worlasi’s remarks come in response to a video that has sparked national outrage. In the footage, Gyamfi is seen sitting in his car, counting dollar bills before Agradaa snatches the wad and flaunts it in front of onlookers. The display of cash has drawn widespread criticism, especially in light of current economic struggles facing many Ghanaians.

The musician did not hold back in voicing his disappointment in Ghanaian politicians, stating, “Just when you start believing in someone, you get disappointed. I don’t know what it is with politicians. I don’t know whether it is money or what.

Though Sammy Gyamfi has since apologized, claiming it was a “private act of kindness,” critics remain unconvinced, especially with President Mahama’s recently launched Code of Conduct for party officials, which warns against public displays of opulence.

Popular Ghanaian actor Samuel Seth Kwabena Keyere Karkari, popularly known as Koo Fori, known for his role in the TV series Efiewura, has been granted bail of GHS320,000 with three sureties after being charged with defrauding a US-based Ghanaian of $50,000.

The Efiewura TV series actor was arrested by police in Accra on Friday, May 9, and appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court on Monday, May 12.

According to the police, Koo Fori allegedly took money from a Ghanaian based in California, claiming he would invest it for the person.

The case, however, is expected to continue as investigations proceed.

  • “You lot need to raise the level of political discourse” – Nana Aba on Sammy Gyamfi cash gift brouhaha

“You lot need to raise the level of political discourse” – Nana Aba on Sammy Gyamfi cash gift brouhaha

Renowned Ghanaian broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah has called for a higher standard of political conversations in the country following recent comments about National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi.

Her comment comes on the back of conversations held on the back of a recent video of Sammy Gyamfi counting some dollars as a gift to televangelist Patricia Oduro, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

Ghanaians are unhappy with the act, and the minority is calling for his suspension.

But in a strongly worded social media post, Nana Aba Anamoah questioned the logic behind insinuations that Sammy Gyamfi had no dollars until his party came to power, describing the claim as both shallow and unserious.

“You mean Sammy Gyamfi had no dollars until his party won the election? He had never seen dollars before January 7, 2025?” she quizzed, expressing disbelief at the argument which she initially thought was just social media banter.

“I thought it was all social media banter until I heard the conversation on radio,” she added, referencing what appears to be a broader political debate that has spilled into the public domain.

Clearly unimpressed by the tone and quality of the exchange, the General Manager of GHOne TV and Starr FM called on political actors and their supporters to elevate the national conversation. “Honestly, you lot need to raise the level of political discourse,” she stated.

The broadcaster, known for her bold takes on social and political issues, is the latest to express concern over what many see as a growing trend of personal attacks, misinformation, and unserious narratives dominating Ghana’s political space.

About 60% of US visa applications by 61,000 Ghanaians denied due to fraud – Embassy

The United States Embassy in Ghana has expressed deep concern over a surge in fraudulent visa applications, revealing that approximately 60% of the 61,000 submissions received in 2024 were denied-largely due to fraud.

According to the Embassy, only 25,000 applications were approved this year, a figure officials say reflects the increasing involvement of middlemen and fraudulent agents posing as facilitators to unsuspecting Ghanaians desperate to travel abroad.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the Consul General of the U.S. Embassy, Elliot Fertik, attributed the sharp rate of denials to widespread deception by self-styled “fixers” who prey on applicants with false assurances of guaranteed visas often charging thousands of dollars.

“There are often a lot of people who say, “If you pay me money, I can get you a visa.” That is not true,” Mr. Fertik stressed.

“The visa application process can be done by anyone, on their own.

Paying extra money to someone who claims to have an inside track is a lie; they are simply taking your money.” He disclosed that hundreds of victims report to the Embassy annually after being defrauded of up to $5,000 by these fraudulent agents, who eventually fail to deliver any results.

In response to the growing trend, the Embassy is intensifying efforts in collaboration with Ghanaian security agencies to track and prosecute individuals involved in visa-related scams.

Mr. Fertik also mentioned joint efforts with Canadian law enforcement to dismantle cross-border visa fraud networks.

The Embassy has consistently maintained a zero-tolerance policy towards dishonesty in visa applications.

Mr. Fertik noted that this stance remains unchanged and will be rigorously enforced under the current U.S. administration.

Per reports, the number of Ghanaians who applied for visa applications between 2019 and 2023 had tripled.

In 2023, the US Embassy revealed that Ghana ranked 14th with regards to the country with the most students traveling to the US for studies.

A total of 10,000 visa applications were turned in by students and sportsmen from Ghana.

A report from the US government revealed that Ghana’s visa compliance has worsened.

537 out of 2,559 student and exchange visitor visa holders remained in the US unlawfully.

In a message on Sunday, May 11, the President lauded the tireless efforts of mothers, acknowledging their sacrifices and the pivotal role they play in shaping the future of the nation, even in the face of adversity.

“Happy Mother’s Day to all the tireless mothers working to build a better future for their children. Many of you encounter various challenges, yet your resilience inspires your children and others in the community,” he stated.

President Mahama emphasized that the empowerment of women remains a central pillar of his development agenda, asserting that sustainable growth can only be achieved when women and children are given the opportunity to thrive.

“As we celebrate our mothers today, let us renew our commitment to building a Ghana where every mother and child has the opportunity to thrive. From access to quality healthcare and education to economic empowerment, we will prioritise policies that uplift mothers, women, and families,” he assured.

He called on the nation to pause and honour the contributions of women who nurture and guide their families daily, expressing personal gratitude to key women in his life.

“Let’s all take a moment to appreciate the incredible women who nurtured us,” he said. “To my wife, Lordina, Vice President Naana Jane, and all mothers, thank you.”

In a message posted on his official Facebook page on Sunday, May 11, President Mahama revealed that he visited the Vice President, Professor Nana Jane Opoku Agyeman earlier in the day and expressed his delight at her recovery.

“She is taking a deserved rest after recovering from illness and looking forward to resuming her duties soon,” the President told Ghanaians.

As part of his broader agenda to enhance women’s participation in economic life, President Mahama announced plans to establish a National Women’s Bank, aimed at supporting one million women entrepreneurs across the country.

The bank will offer low-interest loans and financial literacy programmes to help women grow their businesses and access the financial resources they need.

“The goal is to ensure equal access to credit, particularly in sectors where women have historically faced funding challenges,” the President said, adding that the initiative will form part of a larger strategy to foster mentorship and financial inclusion for women in business.

Additionally, the government plans to expand access to maternal healthcare and improve educational opportunities for children, while reinforcing social protection programmes to ensure that the contributions of mothers and families are both recognised and supported.

In a significant legislative stride, President Mahama also pledged full enforcement of the Affirmative Action Act of 2024, which seeks to promote gender equity across all sectors.

He has indicated that the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is actively collaborating with all important stakeholders to ensure the Act is fully functional, including achieving the 30 percent target quota for women in political appointments.

“I am pleased to report that women currently make up 23.21 percent of all appointments and we are diligently working toward reaching the target set forth in Act 1121” the president stated

Gender advocacy groups have welcomed the President’s leadership in this area, with organisations like She Leads Ghana calling for greater transparency and ambitious targets, including 50% representation of women in leadership by 2034.

President Mahama, has consistently championed women’s rights and leadership roles in governance. His message aligns with the growing chorus of voices advocating for increased female representation in decision-making positions across Ghana and Africa.

This initiative aimed to provide financial support, loans, and resources tailored specifically for women entrepreneurs and businesses, ensuring greater economic inclusion and empowerment at large.

During the launch of the NDC Women’s Manifesto on September 30, 2024, President Mahama promised to give 30% of cabinet positions to women if he becomes the president of Ghana.

“Within the first 14 days of my presidency, I will nominate my Cabinet – 30% of whom will be women,” he said.

Reduce price decrease expectation amid cedi appreciation – Dalex Finance CEO to public

Financial analyst Joe Jackson has cautioned Ghanaians against expecting an immediate drop in prices despite the recent strong performance of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar.

Speaking on Marketplace on JoyNews, the Chief Executive Officer of Dalex Finance acknowledged the significance of the cedi’s appreciation but urged Ghanaians to exercise patience as the economy gradually recovers from its recent challenges.

“Too early to demand prices go down. It will take some time. We are coming out of a national crisis,” he stated, underscoring that while the exchange rate gains are notable, their trickle-down effects on the cost of living will not be instant.

Ghana’s cedi has been recognised by Bloomberg as the world’s best-performing currency, having appreciated nearly 16% against the US dollar since April 2025. It is currently trading at GH₵13.70 to the dollar—a sharp improvement that many hope signals a broader economic recovery.

Jackson described the development as a “welcome break” from the financial strain Ghanaians have endured. “Appreciation of the cedi and the stability alone has me excited,” he said. “We are clawing back the devastating effect on our purchasing. That can’t be a bad thing. Let’s pray it continues.”

He credited both global and local factors for the cedi’s performance. While external influences such as falling petroleum prices, a weaker dollar, and rising global interest in gold played a part, he stressed that Ghana’s internal policies have been equally critical.

“It is not external factors alone,” he noted. “The internal commitment by the government to be fiscally disciplined is also a factor.”

According to Jackson, the government and the Bank of Ghana deserve credit for policies that have helped restore confidence in the local currency, including expenditure controls and stable monetary measures.

Still, he warned of potential risks. “Definitely there are risks to the cedi’s sharp appreciation, but at this moment the stars have aligned and put us in a good place,” he said.

Meanwhile, an economics lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor William Baah Boateng, has called on importers and traders to reflect the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi in the pricing of goods and services.

While improved exchange rates are expected to eventually boost banking liquidity and support the private sector, Jackson called for Ghanaians to manage their expectations.

Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, has assured that the days of sharp and unpredictable swings in the value of the Ghanaian cedi are gradually fading, crediting this to improved inflows and ongoing reforms in the foreign exchange market.

Reflecting on the broader picture, he stated confidently, “All I can tell you at this point is the days of excessive volatility of the cedi are certainly coming to an end.”

As the country navigates a post-crisis economic path, experts like Jackson are encouraging both hope and caution—acknowledging progress while reinforcing the need for patience and sustained reforms.
